- 0:00Speaker 1: When you look at the videos now that we put
- 0:01Speaker 1: on Instagram, don't you have a slight desire to look
- 0:04Speaker 1: a little better? I know I do. I put on
- 0:07Speaker 1: the lights put on a night next to Heather Graham.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I did not look good. So today I put on.
- 0:13Speaker 2: The lights one no one next to hev I know.
- 0:16Speaker 1: But today I saw the Heather Graham videos and I
- 0:19Speaker 1: was like Jesus, put on a nice shut zach, I
- 0:21Speaker 1: put on some lights. Fuck.
- 0:24Speaker 2: She was a spectacular guest.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Actually she was, but she also looks like Heather Graham.
- 0:29Speaker 1: So next to her, it's like accentuated that we don't
- 0:31Speaker 1: look that great. Well, I should say, I don't look
- 0:34Speaker 1: that great. You always look great.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Well, today I don't look my best. I was in
- 0:39Speaker 3: the animation studio.
- 0:40Speaker 1: As you can see, Yes, you're very close to the
- 0:43Speaker 1: camera today, but this is going to be an extreme
- 0:45Speaker 1: close up.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Of you and my close door. Is that your your?
- 0:47Speaker 1: Is that your your?
- 0:49Speaker 4: The frame actually doesn't look that bad. If you click
- 0:51Speaker 4: expand frame you can see what his full frame looks like.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Oh I did I have him? I have him in a.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Totally I had to do the same thing. I will
- 0:59Speaker 4: say it is a little bit of a low angle.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Any way you can get a little bit higher? Yeah,
- 1:04Speaker 4: a little higher.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I mean I could go to the back. I might.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I might prefer it. Wait, go to the back of
- 1:10Speaker 1: the room or just go behind the What.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Do you mean, go and get a little higher. That'd
- 1:14Speaker 2: be great.
- 1:15Speaker 1: You know, he doing a weed shoke.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Hold on one second, this.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I can't believe I missed that.
- 1:25Speaker 1: What we pick up on a weed joke? That's what happens.
- 1:30Speaker 1: So you don't smoke weed for a year. Oh you
- 1:31Speaker 1: gave up weed?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Good for you?
- 1:33Speaker 1: No, well for now, Oh you haven't smoked weed for
- 1:37Speaker 1: a year? Correct, that's impressive.
- 1:39Speaker 2: You hit.
- 1:39Speaker 1: You hid that from our community, who's always interested in
- 1:43Speaker 1: how much weed you're consuming.
- 1:45Speaker 3: I assumed that he hadn't because for a little bit, Dani,
- 1:48Speaker 3: it was a little upset about ship.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Are you saying he was crampy? Yeah? Oh, you were
- 1:54Speaker 1: going through withdrawal of counnabis.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Just for a little bit.
- 1:58Speaker 3: I was like, what the fuck is up with withdrawal?
- 2:02Speaker 1: I see he was.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Mad because of the weed. Now I know, and knowing
- 2:07Speaker 2: is half the battle.
- 2:08Speaker 1: There you go, there, you go, what's happening over there
- 2:10Speaker 1: with the camera, bro.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I'm trying to fix it.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Man, it's a whole rearranging what you try to get
- 2:15Speaker 3: into one day, or shown what you're trying to do.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Let me tell you, man.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I have so many topics I want to talk about
- 2:24Speaker 1: before we're joined by the incredible, incredibly funny Nicole Sullivan. Donald,
- 2:31Speaker 1: you know how excited we are about the Wicked movie
- 2:34Speaker 1: coming out?
- 2:35Speaker 2: What just happened?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Well, the Wicked people are putting out a toy, every
- 2:40Speaker 1: kind of toy that exists. There's a Wicked What are
- 2:45Speaker 1: you saying? Oh Lord, this camera fell o, Oh god,
- 2:48Speaker 1: we guys, not even one. I would like to I
- 2:52Speaker 1: would like the record to reflect that those of us
- 2:53Speaker 1: who don't smoke, we have our cameras set up properly,
- 2:56Speaker 1: and those of us who are high as balls can't
- 2:59Speaker 1: seem to set up a web him.
- 3:00Speaker 3: It's not a webcam. It's a freaking freaking point and shoot. Man,
- 3:05Speaker 3: this thing has to.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Have a you know what you need, what you should get? Donald.
- 3:09Speaker 2: It doesn't mount to the computer, it doesn't.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I know. But what I have is it's on a
- 3:13Speaker 1: one of those things you can move around like a
- 3:16Speaker 1: like a light that screws to your table. And then
- 3:18Speaker 1: I can move it up and down and all around.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It's a mic arm.
- 3:22Speaker 1: It's like a mic arm.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you also have a mark. I can't tell my wife. Yo.
- 3:27Speaker 2: You know what I need, Babe. I need this.
- 3:29Speaker 1: You Donald? You Donald, You couldn't set up a mic
- 3:33Speaker 1: stand on your on your desk?
- 3:34Speaker 2: Hey Donald, did you set up the mic stand on
- 3:36Speaker 2: your desk?
- 3:37Speaker 1: Absolutely?
- 3:37Speaker 4: I've set up all of this all right, Donald, I'm
- 3:39Speaker 4: gonna make you an offer. I am coming to Los Angeles, Oh,
- 3:44Speaker 4: at the end of October, at the end of this month,
- 3:46Speaker 4: and I will come over and set this up for
- 3:49Speaker 4: you if you would like that.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I love it. Let's do it and then you can
- 3:52Speaker 2: see the studio and yeahe what I'm doing. I've already Yo.
- 3:56Speaker 2: First shot is beginning lighting everything. I can't believe it.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I can't believe it.
- 4:02Speaker 3: I can't believe it, all of this money that I've
- 4:05Speaker 3: put into this room and this and this.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Hobby of mine. Finally, first shot, we're beginning.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Are you going to use our puppets?
- 4:19Speaker 2: I think we should be in the movie. I wanted
- 4:20Speaker 2: to talk to you about this, bro.
- 4:23Speaker 1: No, but I would like you to be putting effort
- 4:25Speaker 1: using our puppets.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Listen.
- 4:28Speaker 1: If I see that puppet with the dreads that you
- 4:30Speaker 1: love one more time, when you've got Zach and Donald puppets, listen,
- 4:34Speaker 1: then why are you so addicted to him?
- 4:37Speaker 2: To me? Because we don't have the proper stuff yet.
- 4:42Speaker 2: But this is what I'm thinking.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I think you and I should be in this movie
- 4:47Speaker 3: as Tag and Bank.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I don't know what that means.
- 4:53Speaker 2: What does that mean? Again?
- 4:54Speaker 1: What does Tag and Bank mean?
- 4:55Speaker 5: I don't know?
- 4:56Speaker 1: You either?
- 4:56Speaker 2: Get this mic? Right?
- 4:57Speaker 1: Do you want to talk about the two topics that
- 4:59Speaker 1: I want to talk about or do you want to
- 5:00Speaker 1: talk about Tag and Bink?
- 5:02Speaker 2: You were asking me about my room. Okay, let's talk
- 5:05Speaker 2: about your two topics. I'm sorry.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Okay. So the Wicked movie is coming out and they
- 5:11Speaker 1: made a little mistake the obviously, for those of you
- 5:13Speaker 1: who don't know Wicked, the musical Act one ends with
- 5:17Speaker 1: a very big, huge song called the Fine Gravity, made
- 5:20Speaker 1: famous by Adele Desime A Dina Manzelle.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Killed it.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Adele desime killed it. She originated the parted and she's
- 5:30Speaker 1: wickedly talented and her name is Adele Dezime and she
- 5:35Speaker 1: has a life. And it ends with this huge number
- 5:39Speaker 1: that's very exciting and it's thrilling and anyone who loves musicals,
- 5:43Speaker 1: it was a very special moment. So they releasing all
- 5:49Speaker 1: these toys for the Wicked movie, and someone fucked up
- 5:54Speaker 1: because one of the toys is a microphone where you
- 5:57Speaker 1: can sing along, and the toy came out and if
- 6:02Speaker 1: you hit a button, it fucking plays the final the
- 6:06Speaker 1: epic moment with now Cynthia Revo singing the song, and
- 6:11Speaker 1: so people are just filming, is just filming in the microphone?
- 6:15Speaker 1: I saw this on Twitter. We want to hear a
- 6:16Speaker 1: little clip. Sure, yes, this is like a kid's microphone
- 6:21Speaker 1: toy and someone just filmed it on the interweb. We wow,
- 6:33Speaker 1: it really plays like.
- 6:37Speaker 6: Everyone to fly, that's my super Bowl, that's my superod.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I just got goosebump say something right now.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Vo Arrivo did the Whitney Houston to that bad Boy?
- 7:10Speaker 1: What do you mean she did another?
- 7:14Speaker 3: The Star Spangled Banner is an amazing song. We as
- 7:18Speaker 3: Americans know this. Yes, there's very few times that it
- 7:22Speaker 3: was sang where everyone in America is like, that's the
- 7:26Speaker 3: best version of that I've ever heard in my life.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Yeah, Whitney Houston for that was it? The Super Bowl
- 7:33Speaker 2: whatever Super Bowl that was.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Her version of the star spangl banner is probably the
- 7:38Speaker 3: best version of the Star Spangled banner I've ever heard.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Not only is it the best, everybody bites off of
- 7:45Speaker 3: what she did, but circle now let me now, let me, now,
- 7:49Speaker 3: let me go. I thought, after hearing Nadel manzine, I
- 7:58Speaker 3: I too have dyslexia, So therefore.
- 8:05Speaker 1: You think it would cancel each other out and you'd
- 8:06Speaker 1: be back to a Dina Menzel.
- 8:08Speaker 3: No, but it doesn't. It's you know, but nobody. I've
- 8:12Speaker 3: seen this show several times. I still thought she was
- 8:16Speaker 3: the best to sing it. After Cynthia Rivo. I'm gonna
- 8:20Speaker 3: have to go Cynthia Rivo right now.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Well, I just want to say that I don't know.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I don't know if they would like to see it.
- 8:27Speaker 3: I would like to see a battle if somebody wants
- 8:30Speaker 3: to compare.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I don't know if they did leak this thing on purpose,
- 8:34Speaker 1: but I think they did it definitely. It definitely made
- 8:36Speaker 1: me more more intrigued to see the movie.
- 8:39Speaker 2: It's a dead Pool maneuver for sure.
- 8:41Speaker 1: What's the Deadpool maneuver? Well, Ryan Reynolds, did they leaked something, Well, Ryan.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Reynolds was Deadpool originally, and twentieth Century Fox did the
- 8:51Speaker 3: movie with him as in a Wolverine uh anthology film, right,
- 8:58Speaker 3: and it was wasn't really that good, so he thought
- 9:04Speaker 3: his chance of playing and then Green Lantern came out
- 9:07Speaker 3: and people were like, that shit's whack. So he thought
- 9:09Speaker 3: his chances of playing a superhero were gone. And somebody
- 9:12Speaker 3: said you should revisit Deadpool and he was like, yo, dude,
- 9:15Speaker 3: this is all stuff that he said in the interview
- 9:18Speaker 3: and I'm paraphrasing, it's not quoting.
- 9:22Speaker 2: He said, dude, I did that already and it didn't work.
- 9:25Speaker 3: And they were like, just read the comic he does,
- 9:27Speaker 3: and he's like, oh, this is a different take on it.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Him and his buddy put the outfit on and shoot
- 9:34Speaker 3: him as this character and leak it.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Twentieth Century picks up on it and they're like, all right,
- 9:42Speaker 3: let's do something with this not to be seen.
- 9:45Speaker 2: He leaks that too, so now the public's like, I
- 9:48Speaker 2: want that Deadpool. I want this version, you know what
- 9:51Speaker 2: I mean? And that's why I think.
- 9:52Speaker 1: That's the exact sames ten dollars.
- 9:55Speaker 3: And now he's rich as fuck. But it's a great
- 9:58Speaker 3: strategy man leak something that you know everybody wants. That's
- 10:02Speaker 3: the one. I'm sure there are many more songs in
- 10:05Speaker 3: the movie that are gonna be I think.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It's gonna be really good. Speaking of movies that have
- 10:11Speaker 1: had a very hard time lately, we should discuss for
- 10:13Speaker 1: a second what happened to Joker Too.
- 10:16Speaker 2: My goodness, I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I haven't seen the movie either, but it is uh
- 10:23Speaker 1: it uh, it's did it's not doing very well. People
- 10:28Speaker 1: aren't seeming to really like it both audiences. Oh there's
- 10:30Speaker 1: Joel just in time. You're talking about Pony.
- 10:33Speaker 2: You missed it, You missed the wicked tol you.
- 10:35Speaker 1: The song toll. Joel Monique is down to get down.
- 10:38Speaker 1: As an entrance for Joel, get.
- 10:40Speaker 7: The word out all the town. Joel Monique is down
- 10:46Speaker 7: and get down. No matter what's between your eggs. Tomorrow
- 10:51Speaker 7: morning you could be and make an egg.
- 10:53Speaker 8: Joel Monique is down.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Get down.
- 10:56Speaker 7: Oh yeah, Joel Monique is down.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Joelle. We missed you. We were just I just was
- 11:03Speaker 1: bringing up the subject of Joker Too. I I don't
- 11:06Speaker 1: normally like to talk about anyone's projects that don't perform
- 11:09Speaker 1: because I want to celebrate all artists. But it is
- 11:11Speaker 1: sort of a big pop culture moment for cinema. How
- 11:16Speaker 1: colossally the movie flopped. What are your thoughts.
- 11:21Speaker 8: I cover this on NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour. If
- 11:23Speaker 8: you want a very detailed description, I feel about this,
- 11:27Speaker 8: and that is.
- 11:28Speaker 2: How you make an entrance.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Lady, she's one sentence in different Joell, can you give
- 11:35Speaker 1: our listeners something from pop culture for guys?
- 11:38Speaker 8: I just so you know, I know we're trying to
- 11:40Speaker 8: keep it tight, So just so you know there's a
- 11:41Speaker 8: full But I think it is a movie that deeply
- 11:44Speaker 8: misunderstands why musicals exist and what makes the Joker.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Wait, try you've seen it obviously, Joelle. Sorry, yes, yes, okay,
- 11:51Speaker 1: go ahead, go ahead.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:52Speaker 8: So I think misunderstands musicals. I don't think it understands
- 11:56Speaker 8: what musical is, why they exists, how music should be used,
- 12:00Speaker 8: or anything like that. I think it misunderstands what makes
- 12:02Speaker 8: the Joker interesting, which to me is his uh deep
- 12:06Speaker 8: love and affection for Batman and how that fuels him
- 12:08Speaker 8: and compels him to be able to be as chaotic
- 12:11Speaker 8: as he wants to, because hey, there's like a guy
- 12:12Speaker 8: on a suit in a rubber suit, like fighting people.
- 12:15Speaker 8: I can also be crazy, And on top of all that,
- 12:18Speaker 8: deeply misunderstands how the prison system works. And on top
- 12:25Speaker 8: of all of that, it is a courtroom drama. It's
- 12:28Speaker 8: a hot mess. Is genuinely a hot mess of a film.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Also with love spoilers, because I've been actually avoiding spoilers.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I know there's a twist ending. I have avoided seeing
- 12:37Speaker 1: it because I'm kind of curious to maybe go see it.
- 12:41Speaker 2: I heard about the twist.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Well, don't reveal it obviously for anybody but I. But
- 12:45Speaker 1: I heard that the fans, I mean critics aside, because
- 12:50Speaker 1: critics are critics. They you know, they can they love
- 12:53Speaker 1: or hate things. But the audience, the fan, the fan
- 12:56Speaker 1: base for the film, seems to have really been pissed off,
- 12:59Speaker 1: like they really feel let down by the promise of
- 13:03Speaker 1: what it was going to be.
- 13:05Speaker 8: The film seems to not like the fans. It seems
- 13:07Speaker 8: to call any question.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Can I keep reading that, how do you mean? Because
- 13:10Speaker 1: I keep reading that.
- 13:12Speaker 8: The film has a very strong stance on fandom as
- 13:15Speaker 8: a whole, and it also has a lot to say
- 13:18Speaker 8: about who and what the Joker is and if you
- 13:24Speaker 8: enjoy that character, what that might say about you, which
- 13:28Speaker 8: is again a very odd chance to take when he
- 13:30Speaker 8: made a billion dollar, extremely successful movie off of these
- 13:34Speaker 8: people who enjoyed your film. There it seems to suggest
- 13:38Speaker 8: that it is chaotic to be this intense about a character,
- 13:45Speaker 8: and whether it's that you you love him, you want
- 13:46Speaker 8: to emulate him, dressed like him, Like, that's chaotic and unnecessary.
- 13:52Speaker 8: I don't necessarily think fandom can be a great place.
- 13:56Speaker 2: So cosplay is chaotic, is what they're saying.
- 14:01Speaker 8: A little more pointed about specifically, there was a lot
- 14:05Speaker 8: of talk around the first film that it might rile
- 14:09Speaker 8: up in cells, so sort of make a hero out
- 14:12Speaker 8: of the Joker, who in the film is essentially becomes
- 14:15Speaker 8: a terrorist, right, and so there was a lot of
- 14:17Speaker 8: concern of like, is this art too far, which is
- 14:19Speaker 8: a ridiculous question. It's are people have different levels of taste.
- 14:22Speaker 8: Obviously nothing happened because this movie existed, and so I
- 14:26Speaker 8: think Todd Phillips is the director, has a right to be like,
- 14:28Speaker 8: that was a really weird take in a lot that
- 14:30Speaker 8: you put on this movie I made. But then in addition,
- 14:34Speaker 8: any fan of the Joker in the film is seen
- 14:36Speaker 8: as being like a very intense follower who might become
- 14:40Speaker 8: a tear You're like, wait a minute, why.
- 14:43Speaker 1: So it sort of takes digs at the people that
- 14:45Speaker 1: were obsessed with the first movie. I see, that's bold.
- 14:49Speaker 1: That's a bold choice, Cotton. Let's see how it plays out.
- 14:52Speaker 8: It's very bold.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Well, I think Warner Brothers will be just fine. But
- 15:00Speaker 1: it seems like a stressful day at the office.
- 15:04Speaker 8: A two hundred million dollar movie making million is stressful.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Well, two hundred million dollar production costs, I think I
- 15:11Speaker 1: read it as three hundred million dollar advertising.
- 15:15Speaker 2: And how much did they spend on back Girl? And
- 15:17Speaker 2: they just dropped that too.
- 15:18Speaker 1: M hm, but this but James Gunn, I've done a
- 15:23Speaker 1: little reading on this, So James Gunn wasn't involved in
- 15:25Speaker 1: this at all, and he's been tasked with sort of
- 15:30Speaker 1: you know, restarting DC. Also, this was, as I read,
- 15:35Speaker 1: approved and pushed through by the previous administration of Warner Brothers,
- 15:39Speaker 1: not the new heads. And also like I read like
- 15:45Speaker 1: the analysis saying, who wouldn't have taken a guy? Who
- 15:48Speaker 1: wouldn't have taken a risk on a guy who's made
- 15:50Speaker 1: the studio over a billion dollars between the Hangover movies and.
- 15:54Speaker 8: It would be insane, not too yeah.
- 15:56Speaker 3: So yeah, is it fair to say that maybe he
- 16:01Speaker 3: didn't want to make a joker too, and was you didn't.
- 16:05Speaker 8: Want to make a Joker one? He wanted to make
- 16:08Speaker 8: a movie about a man in descent. That's not a diss.
- 16:10Speaker 8: He wanted to you want to make a movie about
- 16:12Speaker 8: a man in descent? And Warner Brothers was like, maybe
- 16:15Speaker 8: he could be about the Joker, like that would be cool,
- 16:17Speaker 8: and he was like, finance is awesome, like let's roll,
- 16:20Speaker 8: and then did and so I think.
- 16:23Speaker 1: But then it was an enormous hit, right, and that's
- 16:27Speaker 1: what neither he nor Joaquin wanted to make a second one.
- 16:30Speaker 1: But they backed up the Brinks truck and they were
- 16:34Speaker 1: they finally hit a number where they were like, both
- 16:36Speaker 1: like okay. But then he was like, but no screen tests,
- 16:40Speaker 1: Like no, no, no testing it. So they never tested it.
- 16:45Speaker 2: So maybe this is his way to get out of.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Having to it's bold, you know what I mean, Like
- 16:55Speaker 3: I don't want to say anything.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I don't you know what I mean. I don't want
- 16:57Speaker 2: to say it, Joelle, because I think that's the but I.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Don't know what you're saying, I don't even know what
- 17:01Speaker 1: you're implying. I think it's his way of making a
- 17:03Speaker 1: preposterous amount of money and be like, fuck you. I
- 17:06Speaker 1: don't want to make superhero movies anymore. But he's still
- 17:10Speaker 1: gonna be allowed to make whatever he wants. I mean,
- 17:12Speaker 1: he's made so much money for people.
- 17:14Speaker 8: Mm hmm.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Right now, he's not going to director jail. He's fine.
- 17:20Speaker 3: I don't think he's going to director jail. I don't know, man,
- 17:22Speaker 3: I just I don't understand. You know, you want to
- 17:27Speaker 3: stick the landing. Everybody wants to stick the landing the
- 17:29Speaker 3: way it sounds like. It sounds like I mean, I
- 17:32Speaker 3: haven't seen the movie, so I don't know, but it
- 17:34Speaker 3: sounds like a big fuck you, that's all bro.
- 17:37Speaker 1: I want to see it then I'll be I don't
- 17:39Speaker 1: normally go see this movie, but I'm so curious about.
- 17:41Speaker 2: But isn't that the Joker too? I'm just saying, go
- 17:45Speaker 2: see it, opinion.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Meta. Couldn't you go meta and say this is what
- 17:51Speaker 1: the Joker would do if he was directing the movie?
- 17:55Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Isn't that? Isn't that, at
- 17:58Speaker 2: the end of the day, what the dude would do.
- 18:01Speaker 1: We'll probably love it. Donald. It's a musical, but.
- 18:05Speaker 2: It's not original songs. It's like only one original song
- 18:07Speaker 2: in it.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just covers of like what classics?
- 18:11Speaker 2: Yeah, but classics. I don't know, No, no, I don't know.
- 18:15Speaker 1: It's a courtroom drama apparently. So if you care to
- 18:19Speaker 1: find me, look to the concerns guy.
- 18:23Speaker 2: As someone too lately.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Every one deserves.
- 18:29Speaker 1: A chance to fly, all right, Nicole is here's the show? Yes,
- 18:35Speaker 1: let Nicole in wait counter said Donald.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Five six seven stories. You're not sure?
- 18:41Speaker 5: We made about.
- 18:44Speaker 1: A bunch of talks and nurses.
- 18:45Speaker 2: And said he's a story.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Natal, So YadA round here.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yeada round here.
- 18:57Speaker 1: But ladies and gentlemen, what a guess? Nicole Sullivan is
- 19:05Speaker 1: a hilarious woman. Oh my god, there she is, Nicole. Applause.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Daniel Thunder is Nicole beautiful thing? How are you?
- 19:20Speaker 5: I'm well, how are you guys doing? You're crushing it
- 19:23Speaker 5: on this. I love it.
- 19:24Speaker 1: You are not only hilarious, but the best guest we
- 19:28Speaker 1: could have. Donald, I'm doing an introduction.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I'm doing the background vocals for it.
- 19:33Speaker 1: It's going to be distracting.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Donald, can you repeat the part where you say the
- 19:37Speaker 5: best guest without that, you're an.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Amazing guest for us to have because not only are
- 19:40Speaker 1: you hilarious, but you have a Scrubs history. You were
- 19:44Speaker 1: Jill Tracy on the beloved show Scrubs.
- 19:47Speaker 2: And you're actually a friend too, So.
- 19:50Speaker 5: This is all friend. I've known you guys.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Forever we have. I had no idea until I did
- 19:58Speaker 1: my research that you went to the HARV to the
- 20:00Speaker 1: Midwest Northwestern University. Yes I did, and I thought to myself,
- 20:04Speaker 1: that's why she's so good.
- 20:06Speaker 5: That's right. I mean, we we crushed it out there
- 20:08Speaker 5: at the Northwestern.
- 20:09Speaker 2: You know, I don't know.
- 20:10Speaker 5: I don't know about that, but uh, yeah, there's.
- 20:11Speaker 2: A lot of you. There's a lot of yes, lots.
- 20:15Speaker 5: I'll tell you what that Northwestern gave me very Uh
- 20:18Speaker 5: it was super helpful. Here's why I was not popular
- 20:22Speaker 5: in school. And I know, like, what do you mean
- 20:23Speaker 5: popular in college? But like you can be in the
- 20:25Speaker 5: theater department either very like you can be someone who's
- 20:28Speaker 5: cast a lot and stuff. And like back then, they
- 20:30Speaker 5: would literally post it on the wall like you see
- 20:32Speaker 5: in like movies like did I Get It? Did I
- 20:35Speaker 5: Get It? And I would go time and time again
- 20:37Speaker 5: like nahn and I didn't stop. I mean, by the
- 20:41Speaker 5: time I graduated, it was getting a little better. But uh,
- 20:44Speaker 5: but I was not particularly cast lot and I'll tell
- 20:46Speaker 5: you what. I moved out to LA and so when
- 20:48Speaker 5: as opposed to people that like come out from you know,
- 20:51Speaker 5: a small town where like I'm the star, I was like,
- 20:53Speaker 5: oh no, I'm a piece of shit, and so I can't.
- 20:55Speaker 2: I flowed.
- 20:56Speaker 5: I flew into LA with no rejection, being like, yeah, yeah,
- 21:00Speaker 5: that's what everyone gets rejection. So LA didn't bother me.
- 21:04Speaker 1: You feel like it prepped you to be resistant to
- 21:07Speaker 1: the amount of rejection you were going to get exactly.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but so sad, I was like, was it like
- 21:15Speaker 2: that for you?
- 21:15Speaker 1: Zach Well? I was mostly focused on film in Northwestern
- 21:19Speaker 1: I only I took an acting class, but bizarrely the
- 21:23Speaker 1: programs were pretty separate, and so if you were all
- 21:27Speaker 1: in on on theater, you got to take anything related
- 21:30Speaker 1: to theater. And I was mostly making short films, but
- 21:34Speaker 1: I didn't do much much theater work. There was a
- 21:37Speaker 1: very cool improv troupe and with Seth Myers was in
- 21:42Speaker 1: it when I was there, Were you involved in I
- 21:44Speaker 1: think it was called Meow, Right, were you involved in
- 21:46Speaker 1: that at all?
- 21:46Speaker 5: I did not get cast in Me Out. I auditioned
- 21:49Speaker 5: one year and did not get cast, But I didn't
- 21:52Speaker 5: do comedy, Like comedy was not on my radar at
- 21:56Speaker 5: all at all. I auditioned for that because my friend
- 21:59Speaker 5: was auditioning and I'm I made it to like the
- 22:00Speaker 5: final cut, and I was like that was cool, And
- 22:02Speaker 5: there was no part of me that was like that
- 22:04Speaker 5: was my goal at all, to be in the Meow
- 22:06Speaker 5: Show or improvor any of that. Like I I when
- 22:09Speaker 5: I graduated, I genuinely thought and wanted to do repertory Shakespeare.
- 22:14Speaker 5: That was that was how what I wanted to spend
- 22:16Speaker 5: my life doing. Was like I loved Shakespeare. I loved it.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Do you still love it? I?
- 22:24Speaker 5: If I came across it, I would be myself like, whatever,
- 22:27Speaker 5: my kids have a Shakespeare project. I'm like, I can
- 22:29Speaker 5: totally hope.
- 22:29Speaker 7: I know.
- 22:29Speaker 5: I was energized here and they're like, shut the fuck.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Do you see it out there when you go to
- 22:34Speaker 1: New York? Or when are you ever see the shows?
- 22:37Speaker 5: Or you just or very rarely, very rarely, I let
- 22:40Speaker 5: it go.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Shakespeare.
- 22:44Speaker 5: You know, it's a lot, It's like, oh, geez, it's
- 22:45Speaker 5: a it's a broader style of acting, which you know,
- 22:48Speaker 5: I think is where that sort of came into comedy.
- 22:52Speaker 5: But but anyway, yeah, like I I was going to
- 22:56Speaker 5: do that, and I was like going to go to
- 22:57Speaker 5: Asheville and like, you know places like that, you know,
- 23:00Speaker 5: the Pacific Northwest where there's really great repertory theaters and uh.
- 23:04Speaker 5: But then my friend Suzanne was like, I'm going to
- 23:07Speaker 5: go to l A. Do you want to try LA
- 23:09Speaker 5: for a minute. I was like, all right, I'll try it.
- 23:11Speaker 5: And I came out and I was temping with a
- 23:13Speaker 5: friend in New York City. I grew up New York City.
- 23:15Speaker 5: I was temping with a friend at Ernst and young
- 23:17Speaker 5: and instant young and uh. And my friend who was
- 23:21Speaker 5: temping with she was like, my I think my sister
- 23:24Speaker 5: was like a casting director. I was like, oh, okay,
- 23:26Speaker 5: She's like, called, He'm going to get out there.
- 23:27Speaker 2: I did.
- 23:27Speaker 5: I'd been out here in l A for I don't know,
- 23:29Speaker 5: four minutes, like literally four days, I think, and I
- 23:33Speaker 5: went in and read and I got passed on a show,
- 23:36Speaker 5: a little show called Herman's Head Head.
- 23:40Speaker 1: I remember that there were different people in the man's
- 23:42Speaker 1: head exactly.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Remember that show?
- 23:44Speaker 5: Yes, so I got three lines?
- 23:47Speaker 1: What was your line? Do you remember? What did you say?
- 23:50Speaker 5: I'm looking for Hattie Newman Hattie And then then I
- 23:55Speaker 5: said something like this box is for her. And then
- 23:57Speaker 5: I said, I guess yeah, nail it, nail it. But
- 24:02Speaker 5: I got a paycheck and I was like, you're paying
- 24:03Speaker 5: me what? Like I couldn't even believe that you could
- 24:07Speaker 5: get paid. I don't remember what it was. Maybe let's
- 24:09Speaker 5: say eight hundred dollars right for three lines, And I
- 24:13Speaker 5: was like, I was like, I'm staying in La, right.
- 24:17Speaker 5: And then I didn't work for two years. But that's fine.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yeah, But well, when you come out here, it can
- 24:21Speaker 1: be such a mind fuck because it's like you're it's
- 24:24Speaker 1: like gambling in Vegas, where you sometimes it hits and
- 24:28Speaker 1: you're like, oh my god, I'm winning. I'm winning, and
- 24:31Speaker 1: then two years go by and you're like, I haven't
- 24:33Speaker 1: won in two years, right, and but you but you
- 24:37Speaker 1: just like people who are addicted to gambling, you don't
- 24:39Speaker 1: want to leave the casino. You're like, I have to stay.
- 24:42Speaker 1: I won that one other time. I got to keep
- 24:44Speaker 1: going for it.
- 24:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I will say the thing that messed with my
- 24:47Speaker 5: head the most was commercial auditions, Like I had to
- 24:50Speaker 5: stop auditioning for commercials long before I could afford to
- 24:54Speaker 5: stop auditioning for commercials, Like it messed with my head.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Like the other auditions, like you do what you can.
- 24:59Speaker 5: Commercial agents, Like I would get in the car afterwards
- 25:01Speaker 5: and like turn my let my mirror to my face
- 25:03Speaker 5: and like practice what I had just done. Like it's
- 25:06Speaker 5: not like I'm getting a second shot. I already I
- 25:08Speaker 5: already put the gum in my mouth and said delicious
- 25:10Speaker 5: or whatever I had to say. And but I messed
- 25:12Speaker 5: with my head. I was like, oh this, Like that
- 25:14Speaker 5: drove me crazy because that was literally just like spitting
- 25:17Speaker 5: a roulette wheel.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm always amazing. I used to direct commercials. I
- 25:21Speaker 1: still sometimes occasionally do it. I'm always amazed that anyone
- 25:24Speaker 1: ever gets picked. I mean, it's so they bring people
- 25:28Speaker 1: in six at a time, they say, you know, say
- 25:31Speaker 1: the line or do this little pantomime, and there's so
- 25:34Speaker 1: many people weighing in on it. I stopped auditioning when
- 25:37Speaker 1: I was when I was first starting out, I stopped too.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I was like, this is just I have no control
- 25:42Speaker 1: over this. This is about the way I look and
- 25:43Speaker 1: whether I said your your keys, sir, right, I mean,
- 25:47Speaker 1: it's just there's no there's it's just it's too humbling.
- 25:50Speaker 5: It's very yeah, it's it's it's too humiliating.
- 25:53Speaker 1: In many ways, Donald did well as a child with commercials.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Here's a little quote from one of his hits in
- 26:00Speaker 1: a Folger's commercial.
- 26:01Speaker 5: You haven't gone.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Yes, that's when his brother has been gone a long time?
- 26:08Speaker 2: Donald was war?
- 26:09Speaker 1: What was your secret? It was an Iraq war folders commercial?
- 26:13Speaker 1: What was your secret? Donald? For getting commercials back in
- 26:16Speaker 1: the day being a cute kid?
- 26:18Speaker 2: You know, I'm gonna be honest with you. Yeah.
- 26:20Speaker 3: My first commercial audition was for uh a serial called
- 26:25Speaker 3: Oatmeal Raisin brand, I'll never forget it. And they wanted
- 26:28Speaker 3: me to come in sing and smile, and I was
- 26:32Speaker 3: really good at doing both of those things.
- 26:35Speaker 2: So I got it.
- 26:37Speaker 5: And let me look at that face though, look at those.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Seen him as a little kid.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I was really cute as a kid. I was really cute.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Been gone a long time?
- 26:49Speaker 3: Yeah, because I couldn't act for ship. Yeah, so some
- 26:56Speaker 3: people out there like, motherfucker, you still can't act.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Oh no, no one thinks you, no one, So what happened.
- 27:03Speaker 1: So how did it become I'm not interested in comedy.
- 27:05Speaker 1: I want to do Shakespeare. I come out here and
- 27:08Speaker 1: then you become a you get cast on one of
- 27:12Speaker 1: the most beloved sketch shows ever, Mad TV? What happened?
- 27:17Speaker 1: What were the steps that led to that?
- 27:19Speaker 5: That was so back then? I mean, it's so weird.
- 27:22Speaker 5: People are like, you know, young people, young young people,
- 27:26Speaker 5: or like, how do you do business? Something like it's
- 27:27Speaker 5: unrecognizable from what when I started. It's unrecognizable. Like back
- 27:32Speaker 5: when I started, I was a waitress and I was
- 27:34Speaker 5: a temp and I worked two jobs. And I mean,
- 27:37Speaker 5: I know, I came out to LA with five hundred
- 27:38Speaker 5: dollars literally five no, no, my dad gave me five hundred.
- 27:41Speaker 5: I made five hundred, so I had a thousand dollars
- 27:43Speaker 5: and that's all I had. But I so I worked
- 27:45Speaker 5: two jobs. But it was if some if you want
- 27:47Speaker 5: an agent, you would meet a friend they'd say like, oh,
- 27:49Speaker 5: I have an agent, you should, and you'd go in.
- 27:51Speaker 5: You'd do a monologue for them, I don't know from something,
- 27:53Speaker 5: and then you'd have an agent. Like it was that
- 27:55Speaker 5: then you had an agent, maybe not a good one,
- 27:57Speaker 5: but you had an agent and you can't. That doesn't
- 27:59Speaker 5: work it more. But back then, I we would do
- 28:02Speaker 5: these things called showcases, where like you would do a
- 28:06Speaker 5: show of some sort of scenes or sketches or something,
- 28:09Speaker 5: and casting directors and or their assistants would come and
- 28:12Speaker 5: they see people they liked, and so my friends and
- 28:15Speaker 5: I Gab Gab Allan, Gab Greenberg.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Allen, who was a writer on Scrubs and came on
- 28:22Speaker 1: the show infamously. She came on the show and I
- 28:24Speaker 1: hadn't watched the episode we were reviewing. She was I
- 28:27Speaker 1: think the only guest when we were doing Scrubs episodes
- 28:29Speaker 1: that that never watched the episode, right donald.
- 28:33Speaker 2: She'd she didn't. She had never listened to the podcast.
- 28:36Speaker 1: She had never listened to the podcast, and at the
- 28:38Speaker 1: time it was a Scrubs rewatch podcast, and she never
- 28:40Speaker 1: got around to watching the episode.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and it was during it was during pandemic, so
- 28:46Speaker 3: everybody was kind of like at home too.
- 28:48Speaker 1: So yes, she was a lot going on, Gabby, but
- 28:53Speaker 1: she's she's a historical guest in the context of the show,
- 28:56Speaker 1: and that she's the only person on the rewatch version
- 28:58Speaker 1: that didn't rewatch the show. But she was still fantastic.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Go ahead, you and Gabby, So me and Gabby.
- 29:04Speaker 5: And an actor named Dave Strickland who's since left us unfortunately,
- 29:08Speaker 5: and another guy named Joe who's like he's an accountant
- 29:10Speaker 5: in Orange County. We put a we did a sketch show,
- 29:13Speaker 5: and we thought it was hilarious and our friends would
- 29:16Speaker 5: come see it. I mean not hilarious, but we thought
- 29:18Speaker 5: it was cute. And then someone saw that and they said,
- 29:21Speaker 5: come in an audition from mat TV. And then I
- 29:23Speaker 5: came back and like then they're like, bring I remember,
- 29:26Speaker 5: They're like, so we're going so they need five characters.
- 29:30Speaker 5: I was like five characters. They're like yeah, and or
- 29:33Speaker 5: five minutes of your best material.
- 29:34Speaker 1: I was like we started out. Was this the beginning
- 29:37Speaker 1: of the show, the launch show?
- 29:39Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yes it was.
- 29:40Speaker 1: You were one of the first cast members.
- 29:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I want to talk about that too. I want to talk.
- 29:46Speaker 5: Well, I mean, there's really nothing else. I was like,
- 29:48Speaker 5: I don't have any like I didn't have that, Like
- 29:51Speaker 5: I wasn't I never did it. I never studied the groundlings,
- 29:53Speaker 5: I never did stand up, I never did anything like that.
- 29:56Speaker 5: So I was like, I don't know what to do.
- 29:58Speaker 5: And I came up with these just random, weird five characters,
- 30:01Speaker 5: and one of them, I like, I kept a post
- 30:04Speaker 5: it on my you know, wearing a mini skirt. You know,
- 30:07Speaker 5: I'm not an idiot, what post it on my thigh
- 30:13Speaker 5: reminding me which character to do or now? Because I
- 30:15Speaker 5: didn't know what I was doing. And oddly, and you know,
- 30:18Speaker 5: callbacks and then I got cast and oddly three of
- 30:21Speaker 5: those characters were on the pilot. So like, it was
- 30:23Speaker 5: one of those lessons that like, by the way, the
- 30:26Speaker 5: grounding people are insanely trained. It is such a skill
- 30:30Speaker 5: and they should be applauded, all of them for what
- 30:33Speaker 5: they accomplished, and it's unbelievable what they do. But it
- 30:36Speaker 5: also spoke to me of like being someone that people
- 30:40Speaker 5: root for, Like you guys are the quintessential versions of that,
- 30:43Speaker 5: Like when people want to like you when you when
- 30:46Speaker 5: they want to root for you on their show, you
- 30:48Speaker 5: as a character, you as a person, like it's things
- 30:52Speaker 5: go easier, Like it's easier to get stuff done and
- 30:55Speaker 5: get your your funny across when people are rooting for you.
- 30:58Speaker 5: And so that's what I learned about that that was.
- 30:59Speaker 2: My got somebody in your corner?
- 31:01Speaker 5: Absolutely, Yeah, yeah, and the audience in your corner, you know,
- 31:04Speaker 5: like once you can sort of figure that that game out.
- 31:06Speaker 1: So we shocked you had no experience and you get
- 31:09Speaker 1: cast on the first season of this. Mad TV was
- 31:12Speaker 1: meant to be sort of as correct me if I'm wrong,
- 31:15Speaker 1: sort of Fox's edgier version of SNL. They were going
- 31:19Speaker 1: to go a little bit more twisted.
- 31:21Speaker 5: Yeah. It was, you know, loosely based on the magazine,
- 31:24Speaker 5: which was parodies, right, So parodies was sort of the
- 31:28Speaker 5: gimmick of it, and then sketches in between. But you know,
- 31:32Speaker 5: movie parodies TV. So it was never as cutting edge,
- 31:35Speaker 5: never as out there timely as SNL because we were
- 31:38Speaker 5: not live, so we couldn't talk about yesterday's debate, nor
- 31:43Speaker 5: would we have because we were.
- 31:45Speaker 1: That Did you do it in an audience? Yeah, you did,
- 31:49Speaker 1: say go ahead.
- 31:50Speaker 2: I'm gonna say this. I saw. This is how I
- 31:53Speaker 2: was introduced to Mad TV. The Clueless sketch. That was
- 31:56Speaker 2: the first you know what I mean, Yes, and and
- 31:58Speaker 2: and being and clueless.
- 32:02Speaker 3: You know, I'm looking for my character in there, but
- 32:04Speaker 3: you guys only did share and Dion. But I'll never forget.
- 32:08Speaker 3: I'll never forget watching that and being like, oh, I
- 32:11Speaker 3: got to watch the rest of the show. You guys
- 32:13Speaker 3: had such great chemistry that first year, the chemistry listen,
- 32:20Speaker 3: holy shit, like.
- 32:25Speaker 2: It was my go to show. Like you know you
- 32:29Speaker 2: are watching Mad, Yeah, am I right?
- 32:33Speaker 5: Yes, yes, that was my go.
- 32:35Speaker 2: To show instead of instead of SNL for that time.
- 32:40Speaker 5: I hadn't thought about that song in so long. Just
- 32:43Speaker 5: so funny. You are watching Mad TV.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Many And Mike McDonald was has a Scrubs connection too,
- 32:54Speaker 1: he was on it. I think we broke his he
- 32:57Speaker 1: broke his penis, right donald, He broke.
- 33:00Speaker 2: His penis and he liked pain. Also, yes, there was
- 33:03Speaker 2: one where.
- 33:04Speaker 5: He liked yes, yes, yes, oh my god, I remember that.
- 33:08Speaker 1: And he directed quite a few.
- 33:11Speaker 5: Yes, he did.
- 33:12Speaker 1: My favorite Man TV sketch that I can remember is
- 33:15Speaker 1: is Bobby Lee doing.
- 33:19Speaker 2: The green dragon. The dragon.
- 33:23Speaker 1: He was a green screen actor and uh, and everything
- 33:26Speaker 1: that he was being directed to do made it look
- 33:28Speaker 1: like he was being in an orgy, beating beating off
- 33:33Speaker 1: different people.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Well, you couldn't see what was going on.
- 33:37Speaker 3: He was riding the dragons first and then there somebody
- 33:40Speaker 3: was attacking them and he had to grab it.
- 33:42Speaker 1: And yeah, they were from all sides. Yeah, because it
- 33:46Speaker 1: was just green and they were like, all right, now
- 33:48Speaker 1: now we need you to there's two different swords and
- 33:50Speaker 1: you need to shake them on either side of your mouth.
- 33:52Speaker 1: You're going up and down like this, and he was,
- 33:55Speaker 1: if you haven't.
- 33:56Speaker 5: Seen good, I have to watch it. I have not
- 33:58Speaker 5: seen that, haven't Oh my god?
- 34:00Speaker 1: Audience, and Nicole just put in Bobby Lee GreenScreen, Mad
- 34:04Speaker 1: TV and YouTube.
- 34:05Speaker 2: How many seasons did you do Mad tvfore?
- 34:07Speaker 5: I did six?
- 34:08Speaker 1: Oh my god?
- 34:09Speaker 5: Yeah, and that was I was like, and I'm out,
- 34:13Speaker 5: uh but it every week?
- 34:15Speaker 1: Would you do one every week?
- 34:17Speaker 5: It was like a sitcom schedule, three weeks on, one
- 34:20Speaker 5: week off. But but we so we were live in
- 34:24Speaker 5: front of an audience, but of those three weeks we
- 34:26Speaker 5: would do live audiences. Maybe I'm made in the math
- 34:29Speaker 5: of it wrong, but similar to this, we would do
- 34:31Speaker 5: two weeks to live shows, like you know, like like
- 34:33Speaker 5: a regular sitcom in front of an audience and all
- 34:35Speaker 5: that stuff, and then one week we would shoot the parodies,
- 34:37Speaker 5: which were single camera or thereabouts. Yeah, but somebody the
- 34:43Speaker 5: clulest one was my I believe, I hope I don't.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Think of that.
- 34:46Speaker 2: That was the one that blew up. I promise you.
- 34:48Speaker 5: That was the one where everybody was like and that
- 34:50Speaker 5: was my first that was my first time doing an
- 34:53Speaker 5: imitation of somebody I'd never pretended to be mailed.
- 34:57Speaker 2: It so well, and I was like, d I'll never forget.
- 35:01Speaker 3: I'll never forget my Mom's saying, you got to see this,
- 35:07Speaker 3: you got to see this because I was still living
- 35:08Speaker 3: in my mom's house at the time. After Clueless ended,
- 35:11Speaker 3: I went back to New York and was living in
- 35:14Speaker 3: my old room and shit like that, and I watched
- 35:16Speaker 3: Mad TV in New York City, and I'll never forget it.
- 35:20Speaker 2: I'll never forget in Living Color and Mad TV, both
- 35:23Speaker 2: of them.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:26Speaker 9: You used to do Hillary Clinton, right, yeah, really badly.
- 35:30Speaker 9: Really you didn't have Hillary No, couldn't get her.
- 35:33Speaker 5: Voice, Mo Collins. I looked more like her. I have
- 35:37Speaker 5: let's be I have the cankles. I'm not gonna lie
- 35:39Speaker 5: I have the cankle, the Hillary Clinton cankles. Why and
- 35:42Speaker 5: so if you put an inappropriately length dress a skirt
- 35:46Speaker 5: on me, it's startling. You're like, oh shit, there she is.
- 35:50Speaker 5: But Mo Collins can really do her voice much better
- 35:52Speaker 5: than I. I mean, I impressions were never like my.
- 35:55Speaker 8: Like that was.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I don't feel like I'm a good in person here.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I feel like I would love to do sketch comedy.
- 36:01Speaker 1: I would I would love to do some sort of
- 36:03Speaker 1: improv troop thing at some point in my life on
- 36:06Speaker 1: my bucket list, But impersonating people, I don't think it
- 36:10Speaker 1: comes naturally to me.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Weird to hear people talk about it too, right, Like
- 36:16Speaker 3: they're always like it's a different tone and they can
- 36:19Speaker 3: hear the same like who wasn't was it?
- 36:23Speaker 2: Richard?
- 36:24Speaker 9: Uh?
- 36:24Speaker 2: What was the guy that used to do?
- 36:26Speaker 5: He did?
- 36:26Speaker 2: Everybody?
- 36:27Speaker 5: I know, I know exactly what you're talking about. Richard
- 36:30Speaker 5: Little No, that's not I think that's it.
- 36:32Speaker 2: No, is that it?
- 36:33Speaker 8: I have a Richard Little o C Canadian American impressionist
- 36:37Speaker 8: and voice actor.
- 36:39Speaker 5: Yes, that's yes's.
- 36:42Speaker 3: And just him saying how he would find different voices
- 36:45Speaker 3: in you know what I mean, because he was one
- 36:46Speaker 3: of them. He was the best at the time anything
- 36:50Speaker 3: anybody right, and how he could hear it? And who's
- 36:53Speaker 3: the dude that does it?
- 36:53Speaker 2: That was on your show? Now he was on mad TV.
- 36:55Speaker 3: As a matter of fact, he also has a thing
- 36:58Speaker 3: where he talks about how he he does the Super
- 37:00Speaker 3: Bowl and he does.
- 37:02Speaker 5: Oh oh, Frank Caliendo. Frank, Yeah, Frank.
- 37:09Speaker 1: He does a lot of impersonation.
- 37:10Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, he we overlapped a little bit. Someone was like,
- 37:12Speaker 5: you overlapped like two or three years. I was like,
- 37:14Speaker 5: we did. I think I've had one conversation with that man,
- 37:17Speaker 5: and I mean we were on the same show for
- 37:18Speaker 5: jut we were just never right.
- 37:22Speaker 2: What about.
- 37:24Speaker 5: On the show they were after after me, they were
- 37:27Speaker 5: after you, yeah, and Ike was after me, Ike Barenholtz,
- 37:31Speaker 5: Josh my They.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I'm just looking through. It's amazing. Josh Myers, who's also graduate.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Yeah, what's his name, was on the show too. Uh.
- 37:40Speaker 7: You know.
- 37:41Speaker 5: Phil Lamarr is like, by the way, if you I
- 37:44Speaker 5: am to be Phil Lamar, You've never seen someone with
- 37:46Speaker 5: more credits like it. Like it's because he does a
- 37:49Speaker 5: voiceover so much voiceover.
- 37:51Speaker 2: He actually wrote on the last show that I was on.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Oh wow.
- 37:55Speaker 5: He's like insanely, insanely talented, like just to do anything.
- 38:00Speaker 5: And he was the one when I was like, I
- 38:02Speaker 5: don't know how to do this. I think it was
- 38:03Speaker 5: when I was doing I don't remember who I was
- 38:05Speaker 5: doing it anyway, right at the beginning, either either clueless
- 38:09Speaker 5: or maybe it was your barm or I don't remember.
- 38:11Speaker 5: And I was like, I don't know how to do this.
- 38:12Speaker 5: He's like, pick two things. He's like, watch a bunch
- 38:14Speaker 5: of stuff. He picked two things. You get Like maybe
- 38:16Speaker 5: he's like one vocal and one visual that you can
- 38:19Speaker 5: that they do and just latch onto those two things.
- 38:21Speaker 5: You can't cover all the bases.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Wow.
- 38:23Speaker 5: And I was like, interesting, So that's what you do.
- 38:25Speaker 5: Like one one thing they do that you're just going
- 38:27Speaker 5: to exaggerate and one way they look that you're just
- 38:29Speaker 5: going to exaggerate.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Phil is the voice of like Everybody Man, Everybody Batman
- 38:34Speaker 3: to like Static shock Man, Like he's all over the place,
- 38:38Speaker 3: like just amazing, Martian the Manhunter, just amazing, like just
- 38:43Speaker 3: not only DC, but just I mean he's a great voice,
- 38:48Speaker 3: actor and a great writer, and he's a great person too.
- 38:51Speaker 2: He's actually a great I'm glad you. I'm glad you.
- 38:53Speaker 2: I'm glad you brought him up.
- 38:56Speaker 1: TV and you become very popular in the land of
- 39:00Speaker 1: half hour comedy.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:03Speaker 5: I left mat TV because of I had an offer
- 39:05Speaker 5: from King of Queen's Right, so I jumped onto that.
- 39:08Speaker 9: How was your experience on King and Queens fantastic. I
- 39:11Speaker 9: mean fantastic.
- 39:12Speaker 1: You met your husband. I did meet my husband there
- 39:15Speaker 1: wrote that story.
- 39:16Speaker 5: He's he was Kevin James assistant.
- 39:18Speaker 8: Uh.
- 39:19Speaker 5: And I me and my girlfriend. She was my friend's steph.
- 39:23Speaker 5: She was the craft service person. She's amazing. And we
- 39:26Speaker 5: would go and we we would drink our our boobs
- 39:30Speaker 5: off during the night and come in hungover and we're like, oh,
- 39:32Speaker 5: we like, there's no men for us in this world,
- 39:34Speaker 5: you know, how come we're fantastic, Like as we're like
- 39:37Speaker 5: smoking cigarettes and going out the window like we were
- 39:39Speaker 5: so gross. We were such such smucking party animals and uh.
- 39:44Speaker 5: And then one day I was like, oh that guy
- 39:46Speaker 5: and I didn't even know what he did. And then
- 39:47Speaker 5: it was the Christmas party and they had the Christmas
- 39:49Speaker 5: party on the set on the you know, when we
- 39:51Speaker 5: were playing poker, and I was like drunk shocker, and
- 39:58Speaker 5: I was like, I'm just like my room tonight. And
- 40:00Speaker 5: I basically invited this guy Jason. I was like, do
- 40:02Speaker 5: you want to make out? Like I think I said
- 40:04Speaker 5: that sod, Like do you want to we can make up?
- 40:06Speaker 5: And he's like no.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I was like all right, said no.
- 40:10Speaker 7: No.
- 40:10Speaker 1: I was like, okay, I'm good, and I.
- 40:13Speaker 5: Was like, that was embarrassing. And then a month later
- 40:15Speaker 5: he's he called me and asked me out and he's like,
- 40:16Speaker 5: I was dating someone. I didn't want to do it,
- 40:19Speaker 5: and you've been together ever since, ever since.
- 40:22Speaker 2: You know what's crazy is that can never happen.
- 40:25Speaker 5: Now, what I couldn't ask to go make out?
- 40:29Speaker 1: You can't.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Yeah, no, you would not be able to do that
- 40:32Speaker 2: at work.
- 40:33Speaker 5: You were not someone you barely know, like I mean
- 40:36Speaker 5: we were a pal.
- 40:37Speaker 1: I guess not because also you were on the show,
- 40:39Speaker 1: so it's not right.
- 40:42Speaker 5: Yeah, Kevin James was not thrilled. Thrilled. I mean he
- 40:48Speaker 5: just you know, like he's you know, he's old school
- 40:52Speaker 5: guy like and I can talk about him because he's
- 40:54Speaker 5: never going to hear this and people are so scared
- 40:56Speaker 5: of him that they would never read the story. That's
- 40:58Speaker 5: a beautiful thing. Then you can talk. But I mean,
- 41:00Speaker 5: he's a great guy, like I was.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Everybody so scared of him. Well, I don't really know
- 41:04Speaker 1: much about him, to be honest.
- 41:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean you would just never go, hey, Kevin,
- 41:08Speaker 5: I heard someone talk about you. You just wouldn't. It
- 41:10Speaker 5: would be a bad You wouldn't want to get involved
- 41:13Speaker 5: but like he's old school, like it was like a
- 41:16Speaker 5: it was a boys club man that that King Queens
- 41:18Speaker 5: was a boy's club, and it was like and there
- 41:22Speaker 5: was ranks like people like you didn't Jason was that
- 41:27Speaker 5: was not he didn't like it right, but he got
- 41:29Speaker 5: I mean it was over that. He got over it.
- 41:31Speaker 5: And then we hung a boy's.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Club, meaning like the writer's Room and the yes, yeah, yes,
- 41:36Speaker 1: did you ever see The Comeback with with Lisa, Yes,
- 41:43Speaker 1: one of.
- 41:43Speaker 5: My favorite it's the jacket, no jacket, jacket, no jacket
- 41:47Speaker 5: when she said the upfronts jacket jacket, no jacket, jacket
- 41:50Speaker 5: was just to crawl across the stage of the jacket
- 41:52Speaker 5: no jacket.
- 41:53Speaker 1: The first season, if you've never seen it, of the
- 41:55Speaker 1: Comeback is a spoof of an actress, Lisa Gutro, trying
- 42:00Speaker 1: to make a comeback in her career and it's made
- 42:02Speaker 1: like a fake documentary and it's documentary and there.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Was nothing that spoke there was. There's nothing I've ever
- 42:07Speaker 5: seen that was as true to that time in television
- 42:10Speaker 5: as that show.
- 42:12Speaker 1: One of the things she faces is a writer's room
- 42:15Speaker 1: of really alpha male chauvinistic men. The show that she's
- 42:20Speaker 1: on is like the most you know, ridiculous thing. It
- 42:23Speaker 1: was Malin Ackerman's first big job, I believe, because she
- 42:27Speaker 1: played the young hot girl. And yeah, some really funny
- 42:29Speaker 1: stuff between the two of them, you know, Lisa Kudro
- 42:31Speaker 1: having to deal with the fact that Malin Ackerman is
- 42:34Speaker 1: sort of like the new her and all this stuff.
- 42:37Speaker 1: But you just made me think of that sort of
- 42:38Speaker 1: vibe of like an alpha male chauvinistit.
- 42:41Speaker 5: Yeah, and like not they were loved, like they were nice.
- 42:43Speaker 5: I mean, I'm still friends with a lot of them.
- 42:45Speaker 5: They were good. They were good guys, right, Like, It's
- 42:47Speaker 5: not like they were mean. They were good guys and
- 42:50Speaker 5: very talented, funny writers. It was just that was it
- 42:53Speaker 5: was just a bunch of white dudes in a room,
- 42:56Speaker 5: right and and you know that was how that was
- 42:58Speaker 5: just how TV was back then. But it's thank god
- 43:00Speaker 5: it's changed.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Do you feel that you your experience doing the Sketch
- 43:05Speaker 1: Show gave you a leg up for getting sitcom work,
- 43:08Speaker 1: because that's sort of extra hard now you're playing one character,
- 43:12Speaker 1: you're creating a character as opposed to trying to do
- 43:15Speaker 1: in person.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Does that make you a specialist? You know, you know
- 43:18Speaker 2: what I mean? Like does that you know, Yeah, that's
- 43:24Speaker 2: the question. Does that make us We're going to we
- 43:26Speaker 2: need a character for this show. Let's bring in the call.
- 43:29Speaker 5: I think it earns you clout that I may or
- 43:32Speaker 5: may not have deserved And I'm not being humble. I'm
- 43:34Speaker 5: just saying, like it may not like I'm not Phil Lamar,
- 43:38Speaker 5: you know. I mean, I'm not some of those people
- 43:41Speaker 5: that have like gone up to the rank. So I
- 43:44Speaker 5: earned some some sort of credit where maybe it wasn't due,
- 43:46Speaker 5: but I had it. So I think that helps. I
- 43:49Speaker 5: think the best thing about being on that TV is
- 43:52Speaker 5: it was such baptism by fire like as far as
- 43:56Speaker 5: the thing with comedy, as you guys know, as you
- 43:58Speaker 5: guys like you know, over like proven over and over
- 44:02Speaker 5: again by you guys, is that you can't be afraid
- 44:04Speaker 5: to look stupid. If you're if you're afraid of looking
- 44:07Speaker 5: if you're afraid of feeling embarrassed, it's not going to work.
- 44:09Speaker 5: It's just the comedy is not going to work.
- 44:11Speaker 2: And that was for me.
- 44:13Speaker 5: The best lesson of mat TV is like, You're going
- 44:15Speaker 5: to look like a dope and people are going to
- 44:16Speaker 5: enjoy it. And that's that is a lot of comedy.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we just had Henry Winkler on and he said
- 44:22Speaker 1: almost verbatim what you just said.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:25Speaker 5: He I always say the two nicest people in Hollywood
- 44:27Speaker 5: are Henry Winkler and Sarah Chalk. Although Sarah Schock's no
- 44:31Speaker 5: longer part of our community as much since she likes Canada.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Moore, Yeah, she lives in.
- 44:37Speaker 1: She only is willing to work in Vancouver. If you're Vancouver,
- 44:40Speaker 1: please hire Sarah.
- 44:41Speaker 5: Chalk's queen Vancouver.
- 44:44Speaker 1: What are you talking about, Brittany, She's the Britney Spears event.
- 44:47Speaker 3: She's running Vancouver right now. They're like, what's coming? I
- 44:49Speaker 3: don't know, but Sarah got to be in one of
- 44:50Speaker 3: there is in it. Yeah, let's take a break.
- 44:54Speaker 1: We'll be right back after these fine words. Nicole, how
- 45:04Speaker 1: did you come about getting on Scrubs? Were you friends
- 45:07Speaker 1: with Bill and door Christa? Beforehand?
- 45:09Speaker 5: Krista and I were besties. We lived together and we
- 45:14Speaker 5: had like a triplex. I don't know, Like you know
- 45:17Speaker 5: those houses when this is for the people in la
- 45:19Speaker 5: When you drive on Laurel Canyon and you look up,
- 45:21Speaker 5: you're like, who would live on that cliff with those stilts?
- 45:25Speaker 5: Like you're driving on the that we lived in one
- 45:28Speaker 5: of those and it was three stories and I lived
- 45:30Speaker 5: in the middle story and she lived in the top story.
- 45:32Speaker 5: And we became really close, like we bonded over. We
- 45:37Speaker 5: were just shallow and hilarious, according to us, and party
- 45:41Speaker 5: a lot.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Was there a lot of being beautiful young women out
- 45:46Speaker 1: on the scene.
- 45:47Speaker 5: No, at that by that point, Well, Christa had Christa
- 45:51Speaker 5: went hard earlier. You know, she was a New York babe,
- 45:53Speaker 5: like she was, you know, in Manhattan. Yeah, so she
- 45:56Speaker 5: I think she had sort of sewed her oats earlier.
- 45:58Speaker 5: So she and I didn't party a lot.
- 46:00Speaker 7: No, she was.
- 46:01Speaker 5: I mean I still went out and party, but she didn't.
- 46:03Speaker 5: I think she was a little done. But we just
- 46:05Speaker 5: hung out. And yes, we were very very close. I
- 46:07Speaker 5: mean she dated. She went on a second date with
- 46:10Speaker 5: Bill because I made her.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Really what's that story?
- 46:13Speaker 5: Because he wore Doc Martin's and ripped jeans and she
- 46:21Speaker 5: she was not she was not impressed. Uhlonde hair, didn't
- 46:27Speaker 5: he Yeah, yeah, frosted dips and she had met about
- 46:30Speaker 5: the upfronts were like it was suits. They also like
- 46:33Speaker 5: he looked like she was like, oh, I could date this,
- 46:35Speaker 5: and then he showed up as Bill, and she was like, no,
- 46:38Speaker 5: thank you, and I was like, it's not hold on,
- 46:41Speaker 5: it's not that bad. You can you can tweak that.
- 46:44Speaker 1: You can tweak that, just getting rid of the jeans
- 46:47Speaker 1: and the Doc Martins and maybe get rid of the
- 46:49Speaker 1: hair dye.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:51Speaker 5: One of my favorite memories is that when she and
- 46:53Speaker 5: Bill were first dating, he was so in love. I mean,
- 46:56Speaker 5: she was love with him too, but he was so
- 46:57Speaker 5: puppy dog and love with her still is.
- 47:00Speaker 1: And uh.
- 47:01Speaker 5: She was out of town doing something and I had
- 47:03Speaker 5: I was going through one of my breakups, you know,
- 47:07Speaker 5: all is lost, and she's like, Bill, take her out
- 47:11Speaker 5: to dinner. She's sad, and take her out to dinner.
- 47:14Speaker 5: And he's like, okay, we didn't know each other that well.
- 47:17Speaker 5: I mean we hung up, but like so he took
- 47:19Speaker 5: me out to dinner. I remember I went in my
- 47:21Speaker 5: pajamas because I was so depressed and I ate and
- 47:24Speaker 5: back then actions whatever, I hadn't eaten pasta in like
- 47:26Speaker 5: five years or something ridiculous, and I ate like a
- 47:29Speaker 5: bowl of pasta like a fucking animal at dinner in
- 47:32Speaker 5: my pajamas. And Bill was just like, oh, so, so
- 47:37Speaker 5: anyway you can do better.
- 47:41Speaker 1: He didn't give you a talk.
- 47:44Speaker 5: This is not what he wanted to be doing at all.
- 47:47Speaker 1: That's a funny request from a girlfriend, like I'm not
- 47:49Speaker 1: in town my friends super depressed in her pajamas. I
- 47:52Speaker 1: need you to take her out and cheer up.
- 47:54Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a very It was a sideways request and
- 47:56Speaker 5: he did it.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Because he was so in love.
- 48:01Speaker 1: In love yeah still to this day. As you said,
- 48:03Speaker 1: I mean he's so smitten.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Yeah he is.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Let's talk about voice acting, because you kind of crushing that.
- 48:09Speaker 1: You've been on Family Guy for quite some time as
- 48:12Speaker 1: mort Goldman's.
- 48:13Speaker 5: Wife, all right, so we do want to get the
- 48:14Speaker 5: Family Guy story. So it's I mean, it's not fascinating,
- 48:17Speaker 5: but it's interesting. So back in the day, they would
- 48:20Speaker 5: spend money on people flying every like Fox especially, like
- 48:23Speaker 5: I don't know what the budget was, but it was
- 48:25Speaker 5: a billion dollars to send us wherever was happening, right,
- 48:27Speaker 5: So there's a million affiliates. Back then, Fox was still
- 48:30Speaker 5: like like if you turned your channel, it was still
- 48:34Speaker 5: like channel whatever, forty two. So there it was higher numbers, okay,
- 48:40Speaker 5: and their goal was to get it down to fives
- 48:42Speaker 5: and eleven and two, so like because it was, and
- 48:46Speaker 5: they wanted to be like a regular network, so they
- 48:48Speaker 5: would do these it was called a switch party. So
- 48:50Speaker 5: if it was like at number fifty two, then there
- 48:52Speaker 5: were switching to number five, and so you'd go for
- 48:55Speaker 5: these switch parties. And these switch parties were happening all
- 48:57Speaker 5: over the country all the time, and all these different affiliates, right,
- 49:00Speaker 5: all these different local net areas, and so they would
- 49:02Speaker 5: fly us everywhere. So anyway, but that was that's sort
- 49:05Speaker 5: actually I even really the point. But the point was
- 49:07Speaker 5: they flew us to the super Bowl.
- 49:08Speaker 2: Every year.
- 49:09Speaker 5: A Fox actor is just to you know whatever. And
- 49:12Speaker 5: that year was a Futurama came out and I was
- 49:16Speaker 5: cast as the female lead in Futurama the Cyclops, and so,
- 49:21Speaker 5: uh we I recorded the first episode. I think I
- 49:24Speaker 5: did a second episode. I'm not positive, and was promptly
- 49:28Speaker 5: let go and they said it's not so we're not
- 49:32Speaker 5: we needed something else, Okay.
- 49:33Speaker 1: I must have been really heartbreaking.
- 49:35Speaker 5: To god, I didn't know what I did. If I
- 49:38Speaker 5: knew then what it was going to be, I would
- 49:40Speaker 5: have been real mad. But then I just knew it
- 49:42Speaker 5: was an animated show that I had, and then I
- 49:44Speaker 5: didn't have all.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Right, did they give you reasons, like, did you seek
- 49:47Speaker 1: out reasons?
- 49:48Speaker 7: Not?
- 49:48Speaker 1: They just said we don't like it.
- 49:49Speaker 5: It's not the voice we need. So then it's I
- 49:52Speaker 5: don't know. Three weeks later they called me back and
- 49:55Speaker 5: Matt Greening calls me and he's like, hey, I'm so sorry.
- 49:58Speaker 5: We thought we were looking for something and we had
- 50:00Speaker 5: it the whole time, you know, like that love, you know,
- 50:02Speaker 5: like you were here in front of me the whole time.
- 50:04Speaker 5: Uh and you know, he's like, can you cut? Do
- 50:06Speaker 5: you mind? Can you forgive us?
- 50:07Speaker 2: And cut?
- 50:09Speaker 5: Forgetting? They rehired me, I then record I then record
- 50:13Speaker 5: episode two or something like that. Fire me again, and
- 50:17Speaker 5: I was like, are you kidding? And hire Katie Cigal?
- 50:21Speaker 2: Yeah, And I was like that is humble.
- 50:25Speaker 1: I mean it was, but two times I get it.
- 50:29Speaker 5: You want something different? I get it, Okay, get it,
- 50:31Speaker 5: go get her. We couldn't find her, you're the one.
- 50:33Speaker 5: Never mind we found her. So uh So it was harsh,
- 50:37Speaker 5: and so I was very mad. So this year the
- 50:40Speaker 5: same Futurama and met and and uh family Guy came
- 50:43Speaker 5: out the same year. So we were on this bus,
- 50:47Speaker 5: like a charter bus, and they're on loop. They're playing
- 50:49Speaker 5: the it's a Fox a Charter bus and they're playing
- 50:51Speaker 5: the Fox shows this coming this season, and they're showing
- 50:54Speaker 5: previews of all the shows and Futurama. They were going hard, hard, hard,
- 50:58Speaker 5: like this is the new and like a little snippet afterwards,
- 51:01Speaker 5: like in the show Family Guy by Brea Brack. And
- 51:04Speaker 5: I remember sitting on the bus with this guy with
- 51:06Speaker 5: coke bottle glasses sitting there and I was on the
- 51:08Speaker 5: bus and we were waiting for people and we're watching
- 51:10Speaker 5: this and I was livid because I was like, Oh,
- 51:12Speaker 5: they're really promoting the show. And I looked. I'm like, oh,
- 51:14Speaker 5: that show. I'm so annoyed with it. He goes like
- 51:16Speaker 5: you're telling me. He goes, I'm I created the other one.
- 51:19Speaker 5: Family Guy go really. So we sat next to each
- 51:21Speaker 5: other on the bus and just bitched about how much
- 51:24Speaker 5: promotion and that was sas and uh and he's like,
- 51:28Speaker 5: do you want to do a part? I was like, yeah,
- 51:30Speaker 5: I'd love to do some parts, and then cut to
- 51:31Speaker 5: he's the most famous and amazing creator of all time.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Wow he do.
- 51:37Speaker 2: He's done very well for himself.
- 51:38Speaker 5: He has done very well.
- 51:39Speaker 1: So good guy to have as your friend. Nicole.
- 51:41Speaker 5: Yes, it was. It was again bonded over people we
- 51:44Speaker 5: don't like, just like Krystin.
- 51:45Speaker 2: Yeah he too, he too, he too, yes he.
- 51:51Speaker 3: When I first met him, we did a UH. And
- 51:53Speaker 3: I've probably met him before that, but every time I
- 51:56Speaker 3: meet him, he goes. You probably don't remember, but we
- 51:57Speaker 3: met before. This was until he became really famous.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Right, So we did UH. We did robot Chicken together.
- 52:04Speaker 2: I know you've done Robot Chicken.
- 52:06Speaker 3: And we did a sketch where we did ThunderCats, right,
- 52:10Speaker 3: and he was he was Lionel and I was UH
- 52:13Speaker 3: and I was Mamra, And so we had to do
- 52:17Speaker 3: the you know, when you watch it as a director,
- 52:20Speaker 3: what's it called the commentary for the DVD?
- 52:23Speaker 2: They don't. I don't know if they do that anymore.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Does that still exist?
- 52:27Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean some people do it. I
- 52:29Speaker 1: never did it for a good person. No one ever
- 52:31Speaker 1: asked me to come do commentary, so not always.
- 52:35Speaker 2: So I didn't know. I didn't know who he was
- 52:39Speaker 2: or anything like that.
- 52:40Speaker 3: And so the whole time they're talking and we're all
- 52:43Speaker 3: talking and we're joking, and then my sketch comes on
- 52:46Speaker 3: and I'm like, everybody, let's keep you know what I mean,
- 52:48Speaker 3: trying to command the room, and but it's it's him,
- 52:52Speaker 3: and I didn't know, you know, I don't know what
- 52:53Speaker 3: the fuck he was because I hadn't watched Family Guy yet.
- 52:56Speaker 3: And and then I remember, I'll never forget it, sitting
- 53:00Speaker 3: in my lying down in my bed with uh my
- 53:04Speaker 3: girlfriend at the time, and it coming on, and laughing
- 53:07Speaker 3: my ass off, and and and realizing that I was
- 53:11Speaker 3: in the room with that guy and saying, and I
- 53:14Speaker 3: fucking am in there fucking being this pompous like you know,
- 53:18Speaker 3: uh uh, you know. It was one of those lessons
- 53:21Speaker 3: where you never know who you're in a room. Yeah,
- 53:24Speaker 3: you never you never know how big, you know, the
- 53:26Speaker 3: world is really really really you know small watch what
- 53:30Speaker 3: you say. And I was in there being this fucking bralic,
- 53:33Speaker 3: you know, trying to be the life of the party,
- 53:35Speaker 3: and the comedy was sitting next to me.
- 53:37Speaker 2: And I could have, you know, I could have.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Charmed him and got a job or something like that,
- 53:41Speaker 3: but I was too busy trying to be I was
- 53:43Speaker 3: too busy trying to be that guy.
- 53:45Speaker 5: Yeah, the city is filled with those moments.
- 53:47Speaker 1: You're right, we directly made it on the show when uh,
- 53:50Speaker 1: when when he made fun of us all the time
- 53:52Speaker 1: on Family Guy, I want to want to Scrubs.
- 53:56Speaker 5: Yeah, wait, I have a question for you guys. Do
- 54:01Speaker 5: when you guys auditioned for Scrubs, Like, did you because
- 54:04Speaker 5: back then they you know, you go to the place
- 54:06Speaker 5: and for the test, right, did they pair you up
- 54:09Speaker 5: during the test or did neither of you test?
- 54:11Speaker 2: We never met, We hadn't met each other, and we
- 54:14Speaker 2: met at the first table read.
- 54:16Speaker 1: We met read, which was at Christen Bill's house, this
- 54:21Speaker 1: house that Bill had moved into. I'm sure you've been there.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Charlotte was a baby, Charlotte was just born.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Charlotte was a little baby. And Donald was at the
- 54:30Speaker 1: bar getting a drink and he turned around and I heard, Oh,
- 54:36Speaker 1: I at my test read with Sarah Chalk. And I
- 54:39Speaker 1: was lucky because Bill let us have a rehearsal session together.
- 54:43Speaker 1: So we had sort of figured out some chemistry before
- 54:48Speaker 1: going in front of all the suits. So when I
- 54:50Speaker 1: when I, when I got there, she was like a
- 54:52Speaker 1: friendly face, like you know, an anchor.
- 54:54Speaker 3: That's a testament to what you said earlier. Each one
- 54:57Speaker 3: of us got the part because we had somebody rooting
- 55:00Speaker 3: for us.
- 55:00Speaker 2: And in that when it was Bill, you know what
- 55:02Speaker 2: I mean. Bill really escorted us to the job.
- 55:07Speaker 5: Right, and he was Bill Lawrence, but he wasn't Bill Lawrence.
- 55:10Speaker 5: Then he could have been he could have been squashed
- 55:13Speaker 5: and they've been they could have been like, now we're
- 55:14Speaker 5: not using your pick Bill easily of course.
- 55:16Speaker 1: In fact, in fact, I remember Bill's trying to play
- 55:18Speaker 1: it super strategic because he said he has said in
- 55:21Speaker 1: the years since, like if I had gone so hard,
- 55:23Speaker 1: like this is who I want, they could have revolted
- 55:26Speaker 1: against me. I once directed a pilot and uh, you
- 55:29Speaker 1: know I I there was down to two young women,
- 55:32Speaker 1: and I thought one was better. They were both great,
- 55:38Speaker 1: but I thought one was going to be a better
- 55:41Speaker 1: lead of the show. And I and I had the
- 55:42Speaker 1: echo of Bill in the back of my mind going
- 55:44Speaker 1: all right, don't push too hard, because you know that
- 55:48Speaker 1: then they're not going to go for it. So I
- 55:50Speaker 1: said my piece. They chose the other person, and and
- 55:54Speaker 1: the show didn't work. And when it ended, when it
- 55:56Speaker 1: was over, they said we should have gone with your person,
- 55:58Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, I wish, I wish that
- 56:00Speaker 1: we could have gone back and made it again, because
- 56:04Speaker 1: we all wasted a lot of time.
- 56:06Speaker 5: It's it's heartbreaking really when when it goes that way
- 56:09Speaker 5: and as a you know in your gut like it's
- 56:12Speaker 5: not this is not the and they go just that
- 56:14Speaker 5: way and you're like, well, it's not gonna it's not
- 56:16Speaker 5: gonna work. I've seen my I have a lot of
- 56:18Speaker 5: people friends who are show run and stuff, and I've
- 56:20Speaker 5: seen the make casting choices that I'm like, oh.
- 56:22Speaker 2: No, and you know, let's take a break.
- 56:25Speaker 1: We'll be right back after these fine words. Do you
- 56:35Speaker 1: let your kids watch Family Guy? How old are they?
- 56:38Speaker 5: Fifteen and seventeen?
- 56:39Speaker 1: The watch Family Guy?
- 56:41Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 56:41Speaker 5: So they but they don't watch TV.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Did they watch YouTube? Yeah? Or yeah?
- 56:47Speaker 1: TikTok problem, Yeah TikTok. Yeah.
- 56:49Speaker 5: So they see that. I mean they actually they more
- 56:52Speaker 5: than oh my god.
- 56:53Speaker 1: Business.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Like what are we doing?
- 56:56Speaker 5: Like what are we even doing?
- 56:58Speaker 1: Did you get some bummed out? You talk to young
- 57:00Speaker 1: people and like what do you watch? And they're like
- 57:01Speaker 1: TikTok yeah, And you're like, oh, like you don't watching
- 57:04Speaker 1: any of these shows? No, TikTok.
- 57:07Speaker 5: And if they're watching a movie, which I always think
- 57:09Speaker 5: they're not watching My kids are not watching anything full
- 57:12Speaker 5: length because I just I've never like they won't even
- 57:15Speaker 5: a basketball game that they're like, you know, Laker fans
- 57:18Speaker 5: or you know whatever they're they can't even watch it.
- 57:20Speaker 5: They leave the room several times that like it's too
- 57:23Speaker 5: much in one spot, like it's just a lot for
- 57:26Speaker 5: them for their brains. But like even if they're watching
- 57:29Speaker 5: a movie, they're doing something on their phone as well.
- 57:32Speaker 1: I saw this thing on TikTok where if someone's telling
- 57:35Speaker 1: a story and they split the screen with some really
- 57:39Speaker 1: interesting visual. Yes, so let's say I'm giving a bad example,
- 57:43Speaker 1: but it's like someone scraping paint off off a piece
- 57:47Speaker 1: of metal. It's like an interesting.
- 57:48Speaker 5: Visual, like some ASMR type.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Right now, I know I'm saying. It's not a sound effect,
- 57:54Speaker 1: it's visual, right, So it's keeping their attention because they
- 57:57Speaker 1: need two different things, because just this person telling a
- 58:00Speaker 1: story isn't enough. They need also simultaneously the wacky visual
- 58:05Speaker 1: to hold their own.
- 58:05Speaker 5: I didn't even think that's why. I was like, I
- 58:07Speaker 5: don't even know who does that and why they do it.
- 58:09Speaker 5: Oh my god, never even encourage me. That's why they
- 58:11Speaker 5: do it.
- 58:11Speaker 2: My kids love that.
- 58:13Speaker 3: They they not that they love it. They can recognize
- 58:16Speaker 3: that ship they're like, Dad, that's just ASMR.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Man, What are you doing?
- 58:19Speaker 5: Like?
- 58:20Speaker 2: You know? That's all that is right. The reason why
- 58:22Speaker 2: you like that is because it's a like meaning.
- 58:25Speaker 1: It sounds interesting.
- 58:26Speaker 5: But I use the wrong word. But I'm using a
- 58:28Speaker 5: SMR for both. I don't know what the visual version
- 58:30Speaker 5: of ASMR is, like like stripping paint. Yes, yes, but my.
- 58:37Speaker 2: Kids they recognize that ship. They look for other things
- 58:42Speaker 2: like they look for the dogs and the cats and
- 58:46Speaker 2: the jokes like speed that kids speed. I show speed.
- 58:50Speaker 2: He's king the World cup. Do you know who I'm
- 58:53Speaker 2: talking about?
- 58:54Speaker 1: Now? You're talking the wrong demo here, buddy, we don't
- 58:56Speaker 1: know what the talking about.
- 58:57Speaker 2: Gosh, there's this kid.
- 58:58Speaker 1: It's a TikToker.
- 59:00Speaker 2: He does it all. But the kids love.
- 59:02Speaker 5: I do love TikTok. I'm not gonna lie. I'm a
- 59:04Speaker 5: TikTok fanatic.
- 59:07Speaker 1: I feel like it's a drug I couldn't have on
- 59:09Speaker 1: my phone. I'm learning on my phone too much. I've
- 59:12Speaker 1: tried it and I'm going I can't have This is
- 59:14Speaker 1: like giving me heroin.
- 59:15Speaker 5: I've never been a phone. I've never faced in the
- 59:17Speaker 5: phone person like I've always and TikTok came along and
- 59:20Speaker 5: now I'm like, But here's why I like it. It's
- 59:22Speaker 5: because it's no one I know, Like, I don't want
- 59:25Speaker 5: to heart someone's photo. I don't want to.
- 59:28Speaker 2: I don't.
- 59:28Speaker 5: I don't care. I mean I care. I'm glad you
- 59:30Speaker 5: had a great vacation, but I don't want to have
- 59:33Speaker 5: to heart and heart and heart and heart like it's
- 59:36Speaker 5: so irritating to me, and compare and despair like, I
- 59:39Speaker 5: don't want to compare my insides with someone else's outsides.
- 59:42Speaker 5: It's just it. It is fraught for depression for me,
- 59:45Speaker 5: and I don't want to do it. So I watched
- 59:47Speaker 5: TikTok where I don't know anybody and I can't compare
- 59:48Speaker 5: myself to whatever's happening.
- 59:50Speaker 1: It's interesting though that, you know, I saw someone on
- 59:54Speaker 1: doing an analysis of what's happening, and it's basically, like,
- 59:58Speaker 1: you know, it's all stories, right, So you can have
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: a two hundred million dollar movie that tries to tell
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: a story, or you can have someone with a really intriguing,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: unique personality staring down the camera telling you a story.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: And they're all just different versions of someone trying to
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: hold your attention and being really intriguing and charismatic and
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: telling you a story, and these TikTok folks have figured
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: out a way to do it and monetize it by
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: just sitting there engaging you in storytelling. And it's really
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: it's sort of captured. Yeah, you make money if you
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: get above a certain number.
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: I just saw for the first time, and I've been
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: doing tikoff. I just I'm not going to remember the
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: math of it, but it's something like, once you hit
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: fifty thousand followers or likes, then if you can keep
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: people for more than a minute, you get paid like
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: between fifty cents and a dollar twenty five per Oh
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: it's funny making.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Oh got it? Yeah, now I see why it's so popular.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: These big people money. Yeah, I don't know the exactly.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I don't know what the exact modernization is.
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: That's what someone a TikToker was telling. I mean, who
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: knows that.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: You probably know because he was Now Daniel used to
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: be a Twitch streamer and he would make a little
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: money on his side hustle.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: But yeah, don't join us. Are you still there, Daniel, Daniel, Daniel, do.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: You know the specifics of what TikTokers make? We feel
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: like this is up your alley. I don't know the
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: exact thing, but I think you're making more money on
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: brand deals that you're selling with ads, and what you
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: are selling to them is the kind of interactions you're
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: getting on your stuff. So it's not like I mean, yes,
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: I'm sure there's some sort of like advertising that you're
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: getting for how long people are watching your shit? But
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: it's like you have that data and then you take
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: it to companies and you're like, Yo, Tushy, give me
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: twenty grand and I'll sell one of your bi days
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: on one of my tiktoks.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: What's tushy?
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: Toshy?
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: The BI day company never had a tushy? No, they
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: make good days, they do. They're quite popular anyway. But
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: that's the point. It's like you're you're selling a bunch
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: of ads, and it's like the bigger you are as
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: a TikTok star, you could be making life.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: Do you know if you can and adjust the water spray?
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: What do you know about tushy? Can you move it
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: from your us to your vagina?
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: I'm actually shocked, you guys, Zach, And don't you guys,
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: I mean there's there's money. You're leaving money on the table.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: Guys.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: This tushy is a sponsor.
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: Find something you like, and then well find something you love.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: We like tushies, Dan, Dan, Was it the same spout
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: that's hitting your anus and your vagina?
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: Just you have to kind of.
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: See yeah, because listen, if it's just that's dangerous because
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: if it hits the balls.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Okay, well you want to make sure you don't hit
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: your balls. You just got to aim it right right
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: very you can adjust the spray. It's great what happens
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: that you hit, But what happens if you hit spray
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: vagina and you don't have a vagina, it just blasts
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: your balls.
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: I have one, and I will say that the thought
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: of whether or not it's what it's the butt one
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: has goes into the into the JJ has has kept
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: me awake at night. It's like, and is it? But
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: then it doesn't make it any It doesn't matter because
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: it's not that spray coming out. It's not touching. But
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: somehow that, somehow the thought of it weirds me. So
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: I understand that. And I will say that if you
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: press the wrong thing and you're not in the right position,
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: it will spray like it's sprayed out of the sea.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: I got it.
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: Yeah, so it's possible.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Well can you use it as a water pic want
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: to make sure that's where do we draw the teeth?
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: And I just hit the vagina and.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: Where did we draw the line?
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: That's so true?
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: All right on that note, Nicole, you're amazing. Thank you
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: for giving us your time. And you're so funny. We
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: loved you on Scrubs. You made me laugh.
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: I love you guys so much. I want to, like,
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: I want to just talk to you guys all the time.
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: I find you so interesting and funny and I'm so
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: happy to know you both like you guys like are
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: just just genuinely kind and hilarious people. And I don't
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: say that about a lot of people.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Thank you, Nicole Sullen and everyone. Thunderous applause. Thank you
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: so much.
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: Thank you guys so much. You're so great being here.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I like that she's funny.
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: No, I like you, you know what though, And she
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: gets and she got raw too, she got real and
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: we had a real conversation about who you know, we
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: do have a circle of friends and we do have
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: a tight knit.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Group, you know what I mean. And it's well, you
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: could oppress the button. Don't get lazy.
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: With it.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: And it's so and sometimes it's good to talk to
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: you know, your friends when working.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: We've known her for such a long time, for such
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: a long time. She's a very good person. I think
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: she's kind and funny and always loving. I agree, And
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: I learned about tushy today. Indeed, Dan, why have you
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: been hiding?
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: Why have you been hiding anything? You haven't heard of it?
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: A d.
- 1:05:17Speaker 8: We possibly can.
- 1:05:20Speaker 7: Yo.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: That would be great to have what they would? Would
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: they installed?
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: I would like to have them.
- 1:05:25Speaker 8: You have to install.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: It's very easy to install.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: I actually have. I I don't mean to see sound
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: like I don't have a toilet with a bidet in it.
- 1:05:35Speaker 8: I do.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: I don't.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: I don't like the Toto washlet you got that good one?
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: I have a It's a Toto, but it's all in one.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: It's not it's not like a separate seat. It's like
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: built into the toilet. Those are the good ones. Yeah,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: I want one of those one day.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: Yeah? Does feel how does it feel great?
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: It feels nice? You know what I'd really like about
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: it is the seat is warm when you sit down.
- 1:05:54Speaker 8: The seat is warm.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: That's what's good. And the other thing is you can oscillate,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: so you put the stream on your anus and then
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: you can hit oscillate and then you just like oscillates
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: on your booty.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: Okay, I need this, I need this now, I need
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: this now, I need this now.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: If there's any if you're worried about any any any
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: any extra little leftovers, it just oscillates on there.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: I need this now.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: It feels nice.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: It sounds like whether it be a finger, whether it
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: be a tongue, whether you know everybody likes.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: Lit as right, it is.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: All right, Joelle? How are you? You barely said anything today?
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: I worry Are you okay?
- 1:06:36Speaker 8: Yeah? You know, coming off the birthday celebration, it was
- 1:06:39Speaker 8: a big one.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Yeah, you had a good birth did you.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: You was drinking? It was drink.
- 1:06:49Speaker 8: One of my friends is Korean, and she demanded that
- 1:06:51Speaker 8: I drink. We had to set pace. At one point
- 1:06:54Speaker 8: I said, I don't drink this much anymore. It's not college.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: But yeah, it was.
- 1:07:00Speaker 8: It was you're stumbling, uh you know, well my bestie
- 1:07:05Speaker 8: was there to get me home, okay, because by the
- 1:07:07Speaker 8: end of the night, really I was like, somebody has
- 1:07:09Speaker 8: to we have to get the pictures, but please, can
- 1:07:12Speaker 8: someone else organize and trying to wrangle fourteen women can
- 1:07:14Speaker 8: be a lot. But we got there and it was
- 1:07:16Speaker 8: so much fun. And you know, I've never been in
- 1:07:19Speaker 8: a position to be able to like take fourteen to
- 1:07:21Speaker 8: my best friends out and like treat them to dinner
- 1:07:24Speaker 8: and like have a whole celebration, and so it was
- 1:07:26Speaker 8: just is like a whole, very really lovely night. And
- 1:07:29Speaker 8: like the rule for the evening was everyone has to
- 1:07:31Speaker 8: feel pretty. There's no like guidance on that. Just as
- 1:07:34Speaker 8: long as you come and you feel gorgeous. That's what
- 1:07:37Speaker 8: I care about. Love that it was lovely.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: I love that I'm going to the Shrinking premiere tonight.
