- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: The great and very busy Tim Legler is with us
- 0:23Speaker 1: here ESPN Cavs Pistons tonight. He is on the call
- 0:27Speaker 1: of the game Legs. Do you like calling the games?
- 0:29Speaker 1: I know you've been doing it for two years now.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Do you enjoy the calling of the games? Because you
- 0:33Speaker 1: seem busier than ever right now?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Love it? Absolutely, love it?
- 0:36Speaker 4: Man.
- 0:37Speaker 5: There's just you know, look, I've always approached my job,
- 0:40Speaker 5: whether I was doing studio or calling games as like,
- 0:43Speaker 5: you know, the ability to teach, Like that's what I
- 0:45Speaker 5: love to do, is teach, like hopefully in some way
- 0:48Speaker 5: make the viewer just smarter, like the next time they
- 0:51Speaker 5: watch a game, or find something interesting in the game,
- 0:54Speaker 5: maybe that you didn't even realize was interesting. So studio
- 0:56Speaker 5: work is different because it's either like pregame so you
- 0:59Speaker 5: have a chance like really think about it and then
- 1:00Speaker 5: do this pre produced piece or whatever, like you put
- 1:03Speaker 5: a lot of.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Thought into or after the game. It's like, what just happened,
- 1:07Speaker 3: let's talk about it.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Doing it in real time and being able to teach
- 1:11Speaker 5: why it's happening is the greatest challenge in the industry.
- 1:15Speaker 5: So the adrenaline that comes with that and the energy
- 1:18Speaker 5: in the building, there's nothing like it, man. So yes,
- 1:20Speaker 5: this has been incredible. Last couple of seasons. Being like
- 1:23Speaker 5: a full time game analyst has been great.
- 1:25Speaker 6: Well legged, You're very good at it, and as somebody
- 1:27Speaker 6: like I stopped doing my sidelines I think in twenty three,
- 1:30Speaker 6: and I'm super jealous because I wanted to overlap with you.
- 1:33Speaker 6: I wanted because you're one of my favorite analysts of
- 1:35Speaker 6: all time, and so it's just like, man, when you
- 1:37Speaker 6: do color, it's very good. So just wanted to drop
- 1:40Speaker 6: that compliment in your lap with shit.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Man very much. That's nice to say.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Is there a yes? Go for it too? I was
- 1:47Speaker 4: gonna say, is there a question in there? But go ahead?
- 1:48Speaker 3: Is he no?
- 1:49Speaker 6: I was going to follow up with you did game
- 1:51Speaker 6: four right of Nicks and yes six or flows out game?
- 1:55Speaker 6: What are your thoughts on the knicks? And they're sort
- 1:57Speaker 6: of odd to say this in the playoffs.
- 2:00Speaker 5: Evolving offense, well yeah, it's gone from evolving to peak
- 2:05Speaker 5: level in a very short period of time. Like that,
- 2:08Speaker 5: to me is what's incredible about the story. They tweak
- 2:11Speaker 5: their offense during the season and then a bigger tweak
- 2:14Speaker 5: in the middle of the Atlanta series and they're down
- 2:16Speaker 5: to one and you know the pressure cooker that New
- 2:19Speaker 5: York represents, and like what that team was facing, what
- 2:22Speaker 5: Mike Brown was facing, and basically they made the determination
- 2:25Speaker 5: that Karl Anthony Towns he's a power player, but he
- 2:29Speaker 5: wants to play at the elmost top of the key
- 2:31Speaker 5: a lot.
- 2:31Speaker 3: That's where he's comfortable.
- 2:33Speaker 5: So rather than call set stuff, which Mike Brown does
- 2:36Speaker 5: not want to and trying to get him touches in
- 2:39Speaker 5: areas of the floor that he's comfortable because it's just
- 2:40Speaker 5: not what Mike Brown wants to do. He wants to
- 2:42Speaker 5: play organically in the flow. Well, then how about we
- 2:45Speaker 5: create some options offensively that take advantage of where he
- 2:50Speaker 5: likes to catch it and his size and really skill
- 2:54Speaker 5: as a passer that was not really appreciated, valued, or
- 2:58Speaker 5: utilized to that point.
- 2:59Speaker 3: And that's what they did in the middle of the
- 3:01Speaker 3: Atlanta series.
- 3:02Speaker 5: It opened up their offense Brunson as a screener on
- 3:05Speaker 5: the baseline and then coming out to get the basketball.
- 3:08Speaker 5: It's like a total wrinkle they put in that Atlanta
- 3:11Speaker 5: could not solve. It completely flipped the series on its head.
- 3:14Speaker 5: It continued into the Philadelphia series, and now what you
- 3:18Speaker 5: ended up was a team to down to one verge of.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Like just catastrophe to This team's never played better, no
- 3:27Speaker 3: matter of six games.
- 3:29Speaker 5: But literally, that's what we're talking and that really is
- 3:31Speaker 5: what we're looking at. This is the best the Knicks
- 3:35Speaker 5: offense has looked since the day they got Jalen Bronson.
- 3:38Speaker 5: And what that does is it energizes your defense even more.
- 3:42Speaker 5: When you're having that kind of success and everybody's included
- 3:45Speaker 5: offensively the way they are now, your defense is actually
- 3:48Speaker 5: now playing at its highest level. So you have this
- 3:50Speaker 5: team that right now is an absolute buzz saw. Certainly
- 3:53Speaker 5: they have been for the teams that they played, and
- 3:54Speaker 5: that's that's basically what played out at the.
- 3:56Speaker 3: End of the Philly series.
- 3:57Speaker 5: They were limited, had some injuries coming off the Boston
- 4:00Speaker 5: seven gamer. They ran into this team that is just
- 4:03Speaker 5: playing with so much force, confidence in rhythm. That's what
- 4:07Speaker 5: it looks like when you get those two things collideles.
- 4:10Speaker 7: How important is og Ananobi coming back for the Knicks
- 4:14Speaker 7: and him being that potential X factor whether it's the
- 4:17Speaker 7: Pistons or the Cavs in that series.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Critical because you know right now, like this is probably
- 4:24Speaker 5: the best I've ever seen o Janaobi play. His defensive
- 4:28Speaker 5: impact always been there. The offense he's been really good.
- 4:30Speaker 5: He's been good since he got to New York, his
- 4:32Speaker 5: role expanded leaving Toronto, and he's like, wow, he's a
- 4:35Speaker 5: better offensive player than your thought. But like what he's
- 4:37Speaker 5: been doing lately, and like the consistency with which he's produced,
- 4:40Speaker 5: he's never done that.
- 4:41Speaker 3: So yes, it's a massive loss.
- 4:44Speaker 5: I do think they avoided a real problem, Like everybody
- 4:48Speaker 5: kind of was waiting holding their breath that next morning
- 4:51Speaker 5: to see what was the result going to be fro
- 4:54Speaker 5: Jenn But it sounds like it's a lot less than
- 4:56Speaker 5: it could have been day to day. They certainly weren't
- 4:59Speaker 5: going to play him in game for the Phillies or
- 5:00Speaker 5: he didn't need him. They might not even have played
- 5:02Speaker 5: him in game five if they needed a Game five
- 5:04Speaker 5: back at home. Just rest them as long as you
- 5:07Speaker 5: can We're all gonna wait and see what this looks
- 5:09Speaker 5: like at the start of the series.
- 5:10Speaker 3: But he is. He is a force man. He can
- 5:13Speaker 3: guard anybody on the floor.
- 5:14Speaker 5: And now you combine it with this guy that's getting
- 5:16Speaker 5: a twenty plus every night, shooting at the way he
- 5:18Speaker 5: is from the three point line, you have like, this
- 5:21Speaker 5: is what an All Star player looks like. You know,
- 5:24Speaker 5: an All League caliber player looks like what he's doing
- 5:26Speaker 5: right now. Now, I will say this, some of his
- 5:28Speaker 5: loss has been tempered by the fact that m cal
- 5:30Speaker 5: Bridges found his offense towards the end of the Atlanta
- 5:34Speaker 5: series that carried over into the Philly series and he's
- 5:37Speaker 5: on a heater of all heaters right now. What that
- 5:40Speaker 5: guy is shooting over the past five games is mind
- 5:43Speaker 5: blowing and it has helped offset in the short term
- 5:47Speaker 5: missing ogn Nanobi. But long term, when the East win
- 5:51Speaker 5: a title, you're going to need og an Anobi out there.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Playing the way that he was.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Legs, where are you on rest versus russ Because the
- 5:58Speaker 1: Knicks are playing so well offensive, I know they get
- 6:00Speaker 1: to wait around for the winner of the of the
- 6:02Speaker 1: Pistons and the Cavs series, which is a great position
- 6:06Speaker 1: to be in. But that team is playing so well
- 6:08Speaker 1: when the sixer series was over, I wanted them to
- 6:10Speaker 1: play the next day.
- 6:11Speaker 4: I don't like them waiting around here for seven to
- 6:13Speaker 4: ten days. Yes, yes, exactly. Well, I'm I'm.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Always going to lean on the on the side of
- 6:21Speaker 5: rest always. And if you want to like the most
- 6:24Speaker 5: conclusive argument to that, take a look at what Oklahoma
- 6:27Speaker 5: City does to people in game one of the next round,
- 6:31Speaker 5: when they typically make short work of the of the
- 6:34Speaker 5: previous round and they're sitting there waiting. It looks a
- 6:37Speaker 5: lot like if you threw like a whole tuna into
- 6:40Speaker 5: a Piranha tank. That's what it looks like with the
- 6:42Speaker 5: Oklahoma City So like, to me, that's the greatest example
- 6:45Speaker 5: of like what here's.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Here's the thing.
- 6:48Speaker 5: There is no substitute for fresh legs. There just isn't
- 6:54Speaker 5: because rhythm, rhythm will come back pretty quickly to a
- 6:59Speaker 5: team that's been sitting around for a while. You cannot
- 7:02Speaker 5: find fresh legs if you never get an opportunity to
- 7:05Speaker 5: recharge them.
- 7:06Speaker 3: So for me, it's always about rest.
- 7:08Speaker 5: It's always makes you better and more energize, even if
- 7:11Speaker 5: the shot making isn't great at the start.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Of the next round.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I smiled when he said fresh legs, So did is he?
- 7:17Speaker 1: I have no idea why I smile.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Just had to be names, right, yeah, pros, and then
- 7:23Speaker 4: we got press legs.
- 7:24Speaker 5: It's such an easy thing to work into any basketball segment,
- 7:27Speaker 5: is it?
- 7:27Speaker 1: Like, it's just so easy you No, Timm, hold on,
- 7:31Speaker 1: I understand what he's saying.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Here is he but what legs?
- 7:33Speaker 1: When he played, when he was on fire, like legs
- 7:36Speaker 1: wanted to stay in the gym, He didn't want to
- 7:37Speaker 1: leave the gym and get rest. He wanted to shoot more.
- 7:40Speaker 1: And I guess that's all I'm saying on the Knicks.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I want them to play.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Here's what here's real quick, here's what I'm going to
- 7:44Speaker 5: say to you, like you're talking about a different category
- 7:46Speaker 5: player role players.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Absolutely, man, let's keep playing.
- 7:49Speaker 5: If I got it going, please let me play tomorrow
- 7:52Speaker 5: and I'll play every k If I'm playing twenty twenty
- 7:54Speaker 5: four minutes a game, the guys that have to play
- 7:56Speaker 5: thirty to forty minutes a game have a lot more
- 7:59Speaker 5: on their plate.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Brilly, on both ends. No, your team is going to
- 8:04Speaker 3: be a hell of a.
- 8:04Speaker 5: Lot better if those guys feel a little recharged legs.
- 8:08Speaker 8: Am I wrong?
- 8:09Speaker 4: I've got you as a Philly guy?
- 8:09Speaker 9: Are you a Philly guy?
- 8:11Speaker 5: I'm well, I get called that all the time because
- 8:14Speaker 5: I went to college in Philly, but I grew up
- 8:16Speaker 5: in the Baltimore like DMV area, DC, Richmond.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Like I played high school basketball in Richmond.
- 8:21Speaker 5: I went to Philly to go to college and then
- 8:23Speaker 5: just basically established roots there forever, and so yes.
- 8:27Speaker 3: It's always Philly guy, Philly guy.
- 8:28Speaker 5: I Philly got Until people realize when football comes up
- 8:32Speaker 5: and how much I loath the Eagles and how much
- 8:35Speaker 5: I love the Commanders, That's when it starts to hit
- 8:37Speaker 5: home for people. I'm not a Philly guy, I guess,
- 8:40Speaker 5: but I love the city man. All of my closest
- 8:42Speaker 5: friends are up there, and my children are raised up there.
- 8:44Speaker 3: So yeah.
- 8:45Speaker 6: The reason I asked is because I was thinking, like
- 8:47Speaker 6: Tobias Harris has not looked like this since like maybe
- 8:50Speaker 6: five six years ago with Philly in the postseason. I
- 8:52Speaker 6: didn't think he was capable of being a reliable number
- 8:55Speaker 6: two score for the Pistons. Is he enough for them
- 8:59Speaker 6: to get past this round the next round even or
- 9:02Speaker 6: is this kind of exactly what we feared? If Tobias
- 9:04Speaker 6: Harris is your second leading scorer or sound.
- 9:07Speaker 9: An incredible option.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Yeah, Asie, it's kind of incredible to think what this
- 9:11Speaker 5: guy has done in the postseason because, by the way,
- 9:13Speaker 5: let's go back to Philly and he had he did
- 9:15Speaker 5: have one postseason with Philly. That was the only only
- 9:18Speaker 5: year that surpassed the numbers he's putting up now. But
- 9:22Speaker 5: for the most part, when the season would end, or
- 9:25Speaker 5: even a game within a series, the first place that
- 9:29Speaker 5: everybody would go on sports talk radio in Philly, or
- 9:31Speaker 5: the media or the fan base was Tobias Harris. Let's
- 9:34Speaker 5: just go in on Tobias Harris, right, because he had
- 9:36Speaker 5: that big contract, they thought automatically that's supposed to lead
- 9:40Speaker 5: to X numbers every night and at Yeah, he's a
- 9:44Speaker 5: consummate pro. If you really look at his career postseason numbers,
- 9:49Speaker 5: sixteen points, eight boards, just under fifty percent from the field,
- 9:54Speaker 5: forty percent is from the three or a little bit
- 9:56Speaker 5: like pretty damn good numbers. But he had moments in
- 10:00Speaker 5: series that was so important to two series. Game five,
- 10:04Speaker 5: here comes a one for eleven. Let's go in on
- 10:07Speaker 5: Tobias Harris, right, So for him to do this eight
- 10:11Speaker 5: straight twenty point games. He had a thirty point game seven.
- 10:15Speaker 5: If he doesn't play the way he's playing with Jalen
- 10:19Speaker 5: Duran going through these offensive struggles, if he doesn't pick
- 10:22Speaker 5: up the slackshity extent he did, I got news for you.
- 10:25Speaker 5: A sixty win one seed would have lost to an
- 10:29Speaker 5: eight seed. Tobias Harris Ky Cunningham was spectacular, but they
- 10:33Speaker 5: still don't win this series if you don't get the
- 10:35Speaker 5: offense from somewhere on an offensively limited team. Jalen Duran's
- 10:39Speaker 5: production has been cut in half in the postseason.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Where's it going to come from? There's your answer.
- 10:44Speaker 5: Tobas Harris hasn't missed a turn around jumper in this postseason.
- 10:46Speaker 3: It feels like, so I just give the guy all
- 10:50Speaker 3: the credit in the world.
- 10:51Speaker 5: It's incredible, like the way this guy has played, and
- 10:53Speaker 5: he may need he may need a couple more of
- 10:56Speaker 5: those to survive this round.
- 10:57Speaker 3: With the calves that it's now two.
- 10:59Speaker 5: To two and you know, game fives to night's going
- 11:01Speaker 5: to be just incredibly dramatic to see what happens. Ken
- 11:04Speaker 5: Cleveland finally win a road game in the postseason their
- 11:06Speaker 5: own five six and oh at home. I don't know,
- 11:09Speaker 5: Ken Ken, Detroit get another one of those games out
- 11:11Speaker 5: of Tobias, because if they don't, they might lose Game five,
- 11:13Speaker 5: go get closed out on the road in game six.
- 11:15Speaker 3: That's what's on the line tonight. I think in Detroit.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Legs, what team should Nick fans be rooting for to
- 11:23Speaker 1: face in the Eastern Conference Finals?
- 11:25Speaker 4: Meaning which team do they match up better with the
- 11:26Speaker 4: Pistons to the cap?
- 11:28Speaker 3: Well, clearly Cleveland for two reasons. One, if it's the Calves,
- 11:33Speaker 3: the Knicks have home court, So that's a bit. That's
- 11:36Speaker 3: a big deal. That's big, you know, just.
- 11:37Speaker 5: Like just like in the last series, Like you're sitting
- 11:39Speaker 5: there watching the Philly Boston and you're going, well, if
- 11:42Speaker 5: Boston wins that series, the Knicks go on the road
- 11:44Speaker 5: to start the series. Instead Philly wins game seven. Oh,
- 11:48Speaker 5: you're sitting there watching the game. If you're a Nick
- 11:51Speaker 5: and you're that coaching staff, all of a sudden, you
- 11:52Speaker 5: go from going on the road to play Boston game
- 11:54Speaker 5: one to we're hosting now to Philadelphia seventy six ers
- 11:57Speaker 5: in game one. Like that's what's at stake in this series,
- 11:59Speaker 5: is well Cleveland wins, New York hosts the Eastern Conference Finals,
- 12:04Speaker 5: and that's one reason.
- 12:05Speaker 3: The other reason is that Detroit Pistons.
- 12:06Speaker 5: Just absolutely physically dominated the next in the regular season.
- 12:12Speaker 5: And so that to me, look, and they're going to
- 12:14Speaker 5: always say, you're always gonna sy, oh, we don't care
- 12:16Speaker 5: who we play, but just look at to me, those
- 12:18Speaker 5: two reasons alone, even if and even if you the
- 12:21Speaker 5: bisiness didn't do that to you, the fact that you'd
- 12:23Speaker 5: get home court will be enough to kind of secretly
- 12:26Speaker 5: root for the Cavaliers to pull this out.
- 12:29Speaker 6: Speaking of the Calves, I'm sure you've had plenty of
- 12:31Speaker 6: opportunity to have the James Harden discussion over the last
- 12:34Speaker 6: few weeks, just wondering where you land because it Chris
- 12:37Speaker 6: cracks me up to him where people are just like, oh,
- 12:40Speaker 6: he had a good game, now, everybody shut up. Now
- 12:42Speaker 6: he had four terrible games. And it's just one of
- 12:46Speaker 6: those deals where it's like, hey, what is James Harden
- 12:49Speaker 6: right now? Is he this guy who's still you know,
- 12:51Speaker 6: all star level type of player or is the guy
- 12:54Speaker 6: that maybe you shouldn't have give that much.
- 12:55Speaker 8: Responsibility to because he's lost his step. Where do you
- 12:58Speaker 8: stand on James?
- 13:00Speaker 5: I think that look, I go back to the trade
- 13:02Speaker 5: they made. I said at the time, and I believe it,
- 13:03Speaker 5: the risk was worth it, you know. Over Darius Garland.
- 13:07Speaker 5: Darius got is a really good player. He's been an
- 13:08Speaker 5: All Star in this league. He's a different type of player.
- 13:11Speaker 5: James Harden can do things physically to a defense that
- 13:14Speaker 5: Darius Garland could not. He can make plays for other people. Yeah,
- 13:19Speaker 5: his size, strength, the velocity that he could put on
- 13:22Speaker 5: the ball to shooters on the weak side, the lob
- 13:25Speaker 5: threat that he represents to their bigs like, that's not
- 13:27Speaker 5: Darius Garland's game. And so for me to add that
- 13:31Speaker 5: other element to their team offensively, I said, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 5: it's worth it to make that trade when they made it.
- 13:37Speaker 5: Now with that, you have to understand there are going
- 13:41Speaker 5: to be some playoff moments where you're just you need
- 13:45Speaker 5: more out of James Harden and he's already had some
- 13:47Speaker 5: of those for Cleveland in this postseason. But and he's
- 13:50Speaker 5: had him throughout his career, and he's gotten beaten up
- 13:52Speaker 5: for it when he's had those Knights, and he's had
- 13:55Speaker 5: he had him in Houston, he had him in Philadelphia,
- 13:57Speaker 5: had him in Brooklyn. It was hurt more often than
- 13:59Speaker 5: Brooklyn and I, but I look at Philly and Houston
- 14:01Speaker 5: more than any he had those moments. We're like, man,
- 14:03Speaker 5: we really needed more out of him tonight to win
- 14:06Speaker 5: this game. Having said that, if he gets it done,
- 14:09Speaker 5: then we need to pat this guy on the back.
- 14:11Speaker 5: In the last two games, he came through late in
- 14:14Speaker 5: Game three. They lose that game if he doesn't have
- 14:17Speaker 5: eight critical points in the fourth quarter of that game
- 14:20Speaker 5: and now they're down three, Oh.
- 14:20Speaker 3: They're not winning the series. They win the game.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Then he goes back with twenty four and eleven in
- 14:24Speaker 5: Game four, and then obviously Mitchell was the story thirty
- 14:28Speaker 5: nine points in the second half. He went off at
- 14:29Speaker 5: the same time. But they're not sitting here too too
- 14:32Speaker 5: without James Harden the way he's played the last two games.
- 14:34Speaker 5: So it's really at the point is he where you
- 14:35Speaker 5: kind of go? I don't know which version we get tonight.
- 14:40Speaker 5: Here's how I've always described James Harden for me, for
- 14:43Speaker 5: a superstar talent, which he absolutely is, his floor to
- 14:48Speaker 5: ceiling variance is too great. In other words, you might
- 14:53Speaker 5: get a great player that's a twenty point scorer, he'll
- 14:56Speaker 5: get to twenty, but he took twenty four shots on
- 14:59Speaker 5: a given.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Night, and like go he had a bad night, he
- 15:01Speaker 3: still got to twenty.
- 15:02Speaker 5: Like Harden would have nights in Philly Ords Houston, Philly particular,
- 15:06Speaker 5: where you know three for ten.
- 15:08Speaker 3: He's not even the same player. He's not aggressive.
- 15:10Speaker 5: He with six turnovers, like his floor was so bad
- 15:14Speaker 5: it didn't give you a chance to win. That's how
- 15:16Speaker 5: I've seen him throughout his career. But I'm going to
- 15:17Speaker 5: give him all the credit in the world because he
- 15:19Speaker 5: always carries that going into every playoff game. People just
- 15:23Speaker 5: waiting to jump on James Harden to not play well.
- 15:25Speaker 5: So when he does like he did the last two games,
- 15:27Speaker 5: we need to pass this guy in the back man
- 15:29Speaker 5: and give him credit because they're not sitting here at
- 15:31Speaker 5: to two with a chance to win this series potentially
- 15:34Speaker 5: and get to the Conerence Final without what he did
- 15:36Speaker 5: in the last two games.
- 15:37Speaker 6: Now I've got in these vaulted ceilings, yes, yeah.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Well no, And the problem with padding him on the
- 15:42Speaker 1: back is you know the floors right around the corner.
- 15:45Speaker 4: I mean that's right, that's the problem, right, I.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Mean yeah, look again, you don't know from night to night.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Now where I've always where I've always liked James Harden
- 15:54Speaker 5: the most is in this lane, which is, yes, it'd
- 15:59Speaker 5: be great if he plays well because it can make
- 16:01Speaker 5: them almost unbeatable if he and Mitchell both play well. Right,
- 16:04Speaker 5: But the fact that he's got Mitchell, he doesn't have
- 16:08Speaker 5: to necessarily play great, right, biggest spots because you've got
- 16:12Speaker 5: this other guy that's going to get a lot more descruity.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Look a Mitchell is going to go from you know,
- 16:16Speaker 5: nineteen twenty shots in the regular season to twenty four
- 16:18Speaker 5: to twenty five in playoff games. One thing about Don
- 16:20Speaker 5: and Mitchell, He's not going to disappear in terms of
- 16:22Speaker 5: his aggressiveness. He might have a bad shooting night, he's
- 16:25Speaker 5: going to actually up his aggressiveness because that's what's required
- 16:28Speaker 5: of who he is. So for Harden to be in
- 16:30Speaker 5: this lane, I like him better here where he can
- 16:34Speaker 5: have moments that really matter, but he doesn't necessarily have
- 16:38Speaker 5: to go get thirty and ten the way that I
- 16:40Speaker 5: felt he did in Philly or Houston.
- 16:43Speaker 7: Like switching to another Mitchell in the postseason. Aj Mitchell's
- 16:47Speaker 7: emergence in OKC, where you're looking at some of the
- 16:51Speaker 7: thunder contracts coming up, dort Hart and Stein have club
- 16:55Speaker 7: options this offseason. Is any part of you thinking that
- 16:58Speaker 7: the Thunder should explore trade for for Jalen Williams before
- 17:01Speaker 7: you have to pay his super Max.
- 17:04Speaker 5: I think that all that's on the table for that
- 17:06Speaker 5: team is you just can't pay everybody.
- 17:08Speaker 3: You can't pay everybody.
- 17:09Speaker 5: And when they give those three their three best players,
- 17:11Speaker 5: got you know, something close toal billion dollars guaranteed. You
- 17:15Speaker 5: know all the money that they gave those three guys
- 17:17Speaker 5: and their age, and they're the fact that they win.
- 17:20Speaker 5: They're great guys, high character guys. It all fits great,
- 17:22Speaker 5: Let's do it. That means you're not gonna pay everybody else,
- 17:26Speaker 5: so they're gonna have some tough decisions to make. There's
- 17:27Speaker 5: no doubt in my mind that Aj Mitchell going forward
- 17:31Speaker 5: at some point will be a starting point guard on
- 17:35Speaker 5: a team that is a legit solid playoff team to
- 17:39Speaker 5: upwards maybe have a contending team.
- 17:41Speaker 4: He's that good.
- 17:42Speaker 5: Dylan Harper's going to be in this boat down the road.
- 17:45Speaker 5: You unless you keep Dylan Harper and win me together
- 17:46Speaker 5: for ten years and that could be an incredible combination.
- 17:49Speaker 3: But you've got Fox there, You've got Castle.
- 17:51Speaker 5: There already, these guys that are like coming off the bench,
- 17:54Speaker 5: these young guards that are so good. At some point
- 17:57Speaker 5: the opportunity has to change for them. And that means
- 18:01Speaker 5: really that won't be for Harper. Harper's gonna be a superstar.
- 18:04Speaker 5: AJ Mitchell is definitely going to be a starting point
- 18:06Speaker 5: card on a really good team. When that happens, I
- 18:08Speaker 5: don't know, but it means tough decisions on their current
- 18:12Speaker 5: starters or on Mitchell going forward for that organization. There's
- 18:15Speaker 5: other guys too, Caruso, Hartenstein, Dort like all those guys,
- 18:18Speaker 5: there's gonna be decisions made on.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Legs.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Is every other team playing for second place? It seems
- 18:23Speaker 1: like Oklahoma City is just gonna run away with the
- 18:25Speaker 1: NBA Finals?
- 18:26Speaker 4: Here? Is Are we all playing for second place? Here?
- 18:28Speaker 5: I mean, I do think they deserve the respect to
- 18:30Speaker 5: say that they're definitely on a different tier.
- 18:32Speaker 3: You have to give them that.
- 18:33Speaker 5: Man, They're not only defending champs, they're they're they're unbeaten,
- 18:36Speaker 5: they haven't been super chest tested. You get a Phoenix
- 18:39Speaker 5: team in the first round, you know you're supposed to
- 18:41Speaker 5: do that to them. You get a Lakers team about Luca,
- 18:45Speaker 5: you should do this to them. So their big test
- 18:47Speaker 5: is coming and San Antonio clearly, you know, assuming they
- 18:51Speaker 5: win this series, but they got work to do. I'm
- 18:53Speaker 5: not going to rule out Minnesota, but it looks like
- 18:54Speaker 5: San Antonio, Oklahoma City is sort of it headed for
- 18:56Speaker 5: this collision. Course if you get that, that's gonna be
- 18:59Speaker 5: their biggest test to this point, and then you're gonna
- 19:01Speaker 5: have to obviously win the NBA Finals there are they
- 19:03Speaker 5: deserve to be given the credit because of how clean
- 19:06Speaker 5: they play, how good they are in both ends their
- 19:08Speaker 5: depth for me, that and you know how exceptionally well
- 19:12Speaker 5: coached they are that you have to give them the
- 19:13Speaker 5: respect that say they should be looked at as the favorite.
- 19:17Speaker 3: The road is going to get tougher for them from
- 19:19Speaker 3: this point on.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Obviously, Like there's so much talk about Wemby when it
- 19:23Speaker 6: comes to the Spurs. Obviously he's transformational, But you just
- 19:26Speaker 6: mentioned Daron Fox, and even that name kind of gets
- 19:29Speaker 6: lost in my head because.
- 19:30Speaker 8: I'm like, man Stefan Castle, Man Harper is really good.
- 19:33Speaker 6: They've got so many good players, and it just makes
- 19:35Speaker 6: me wonder, like do you think that they're that they're
- 19:37Speaker 6: ready now? Even if Wemby himself might not be ready.
- 19:41Speaker 6: The team as a whole is ready now to start
- 19:43Speaker 6: their championship run.
- 19:44Speaker 5: Perhaps, Yeah, to be honest with you, I see I'm
- 19:47Speaker 5: more likely to give them like the just even the
- 19:51Speaker 5: benefit of the doubt that they could win it this
- 19:54Speaker 5: year because of the rest of the team, right, not
- 19:57Speaker 5: even about Wemby for me, as great as he is
- 20:00Speaker 5: and what is he's going to do to this league
- 20:02Speaker 5: for the next ten to fifteen years.
- 20:04Speaker 3: We all know what that looks like, the fact that
- 20:06Speaker 3: they're this good around them, but this is this.
- 20:10Speaker 5: I mean, you find a better trio of guards in
- 20:12Speaker 5: the NBA than what they have Darren Fox. People remember
- 20:16Speaker 5: Dear Fox average twenty five points a game multiple times
- 20:19Speaker 5: in Sacramento, Okay, didn't have a lot of playoff experience
- 20:22Speaker 5: because he was on a team that couldn't compete. This
- 20:24Speaker 5: is a guy that has sacrificed offensively until you get
- 20:27Speaker 5: to this point in the year and he can do things.
- 20:30Speaker 5: What he needs to within the game is to find
- 20:32Speaker 5: castle rookie of the year. One of the best physical
- 20:35Speaker 5: specimens I've seen come into this league at the guard
- 20:36Speaker 5: spot in a long time, just physically dominant on both ends.
- 20:40Speaker 5: And then you have Harper, who I've already described as
- 20:42Speaker 5: a budding superstar. It's and it's Vassal, It's it's Kelden
- 20:47Speaker 5: Johnson six Man of the Year and the toughness he brings.
- 20:49Speaker 5: It's they went out and picked up Lou Cornette, such
- 20:51Speaker 5: a great addition as a backup to women like I
- 20:54Speaker 5: just love the depth of their team, how complete They
- 20:56Speaker 5: already beat you on.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Both ends of the floor.
- 20:58Speaker 5: And it's more for me about the supporting cast than
- 21:00Speaker 5: it even is about Wemby. Honestly, if they didn't have
- 21:03Speaker 5: those guys, I'm not sure Wemby would be ready right
- 21:05Speaker 5: now to take this across the finish line. That that
- 21:09Speaker 5: supporting cast means maybe maybe they are ready already, which
- 21:13Speaker 5: is scary for the league.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Uh do you think do you think the referees are
- 21:17Speaker 1: having difficulties officiating Wemby because they've never seen anything like Wemby.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Definitely what the black shots calls.
- 21:24Speaker 5: Yes, well, look, he's I think that he's so long
- 21:29Speaker 5: that like you have guys now that are big players
- 21:32Speaker 5: that like their top of their head is hitting him
- 21:34Speaker 5: right in the middle of his chest, and so like
- 21:37Speaker 5: they're where their center of gravity is is like just different,
- 21:40Speaker 5: like they're used to putting a forearm into another big
- 21:43Speaker 5: to hold them off on a box out or or
- 21:45Speaker 5: post them up, and they're putting that North used to
- 21:48Speaker 5: putting that elbow right into somebody's chest, they're putting their
- 21:51Speaker 5: elbow like into his waist and it's and even even
- 21:54Speaker 5: boxing them out like, so it's different where he's absorbing
- 21:58Speaker 5: the contact. It's different to officiate a guy like this.
- 22:02Speaker 5: And I just think in general, like the playoffs are
- 22:05Speaker 5: so difficult to officiate in general because which is what
- 22:10Speaker 5: we all want. What you allow just becomes so much
- 22:14Speaker 5: greater because that's what that's what fans want to see.
- 22:16Speaker 5: They don't want to see a parade to the foul line.
- 22:18Speaker 5: They want to see guys play through contact. But I'm
- 22:20Speaker 5: telling you right now, like there are literally multiple fouls
- 22:24Speaker 5: being committed on every trip up the floor that aren't
- 22:29Speaker 5: that would.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Be called definitely in the regular season.
- 22:31Speaker 5: And so now you add into the component this guy
- 22:33Speaker 5: at seven foot five and you know, a couple hundred pounds,
- 22:35Speaker 5: and it's like this looks different. I don't know, it's
- 22:38Speaker 5: just like with Shaq used to play because he was
- 22:40Speaker 5: a unique one of one, right, and you're like you're
- 22:42Speaker 5: like this guy's getting hammered, but it doesn't seem to
- 22:45Speaker 5: be knocking them off.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Balance, so maybe we shouldn't call that.
- 22:48Speaker 5: Then, I like, yes, it was Lemby, It's it's it's
- 22:51Speaker 5: kind of like the same thing, like he could maybe
- 22:55Speaker 5: really get displaced with a little bit of contact, And
- 22:58Speaker 5: you're like, I was, you know, was that enough or
- 23:01Speaker 5: is it just because of how little he weighs. So
- 23:04Speaker 5: it's a challenge, man, There's no doubt. He's an incredible
- 23:08Speaker 5: force man, incredibly entertaining and is so unique to watch the.
- 23:12Speaker 1: NBA Finals that Tim Legler thinks would be the most
- 23:15Speaker 1: competitive is Blanke.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Oh man, Look, I think I think it's gonna be
- 23:21Speaker 5: right now, the way that the Knicks are playing, I
- 23:23Speaker 5: just think that that is the team that's the closest
- 23:26Speaker 5: to the best version of themselves. And they've got an
- 23:29Speaker 5: incredibly talented starting lineup. So whoever would come out of
- 23:33Speaker 5: the West and you know, whether that's okayc or if
- 23:37Speaker 5: you think it's gonna be okay Ce san Antonio, Like,
- 23:39Speaker 5: it's going to require that to give us the best
- 23:43Speaker 5: version of an NBA Finals against whoever comes out of
- 23:46Speaker 5: the Western Conference. So right now, that would be the Knicks.
- 23:49Speaker 5: I just think the Knicks are playing as well as
- 23:51Speaker 5: anybody in this league. And I think there was a
- 23:53Speaker 5: time when I thought, you know, earlier in the season,
- 23:56Speaker 5: I thought it's a forgone conclusion. Whoever represents the East
- 24:00Speaker 5: can't beat whoever wins the West. Right, that's kind of
- 24:02Speaker 5: how And I actually at the time I was putting
- 24:04Speaker 5: Denver into that category as well, with Oklahoma City in
- 24:06Speaker 5: San Antonio. And I think the Knicks have kind of
- 24:10Speaker 5: changed that narrative the way they're playing, the way that
- 24:12Speaker 5: they finished these last two series.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Man, it's like, wow, Like, how do you slow that down?
- 24:17Speaker 3: The rhythm they have?
- 24:18Speaker 9: Right.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I don't want to put words in his mouth, Tailor,
- 24:20Speaker 1: but it seems like Tim Legler feels like the Knicks
- 24:23Speaker 1: match up very well with Oklahoma City.
- 24:24Speaker 4: I mean, how about that.
- 24:25Speaker 8: It's hard to tell, Tim, but Taylor's never been more excited.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I also don't want to get ahead of myself.
- 24:29Speaker 4: They have another series to play, but this is exciting.
- 24:33Speaker 5: Well, look, you think about you think about this and
- 24:35Speaker 5: whether it's whether it's Cleveland Detroit or obviously Nicks are
- 24:38Speaker 5: already in the Commerce Finals, so whether it's Cleveland Detroit
- 24:41Speaker 5: with Kate Cunningham, Donovan Mitchell, Slash, James Harden or Jalen Brunson.
- 24:48Speaker 5: You know, and if it's Oklahoma City that ended up
- 24:50Speaker 5: being the finals against shag Kil's is Alexander. I mean,
- 24:53Speaker 5: you know, it's like the best of the best at
- 24:55Speaker 5: that position. Yes, you know, it's it's it's just like
- 24:57Speaker 5: you know, in the way that those guys control everything
- 25:00Speaker 5: for their teams. But look, I'm not getting ahead of myself, man,
- 25:04Speaker 5: you know, and calling games because you're it's You're a
- 25:07Speaker 5: lot less likely to get ahead of yourself.
- 25:09Speaker 3: You're in studio.
- 25:10Speaker 5: You can say whatever, and then tomorrow I'll say whatever else,
- 25:13Speaker 5: and the next day I'll.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Say something different.
- 25:14Speaker 5: Yes, yes, calling games is a little bit different because
- 25:17Speaker 5: you go into them giving teams a benefit of the doubt, right,
- 25:19Speaker 5: and you want to you don't know how it's about
- 25:21Speaker 5: to go. And we have we have the Knicks already
- 25:24Speaker 5: sitting there. I don't know who's gonna win this Detroit
- 25:26Speaker 5: Cleveland series. I don't know who's gonna win San Antonio
- 25:28Speaker 5: and Minnesota either.
- 25:29Speaker 10: Man.
- 25:30Speaker 5: There's work to be done for San Antonio to even
- 25:33Speaker 5: get the the the good fortune of playing Oklahoma City
- 25:36Speaker 5: and then obviously tonight is tonight is I think is
- 25:41Speaker 5: like the pivotal game.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Obviously in this series with Detroit Cleveland, the game to.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Game two, to me is the second most important game
- 25:49Speaker 1: of the series. Like, what do you think, Well, we
- 25:51Speaker 1: all know, we all know Game two. I mean, you
- 25:53Speaker 1: know everyone, how many champions.
- 25:55Speaker 3: In history did not win Game two?
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I mean it's a game that can really
- 26:00Speaker 1: dictate the rest of the series. You're down one oh,
- 26:02Speaker 1: and that Game two becomes, you know, vastly important.
- 26:05Speaker 9: You know.
- 26:05Speaker 1: That's why Game two there's so much effences and if
- 26:07Speaker 1: you're up one oh, you can end the series on
- 26:09Speaker 1: a game two.
- 26:10Speaker 4: How about that.
- 26:10Speaker 5: I think if you went and really charted all of
- 26:12Speaker 5: this the second inning in baseball, like game two of
- 26:16Speaker 5: a hockey series, the second round in boxing. Yeah right,
- 26:19Speaker 5: it's all of these things are very determinate, and who
- 26:23Speaker 5: ends up ultimately winning. I think Game two in the
- 26:25Speaker 5: NBA at the top of the list of important must have.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Well, thank you, Legs, I appreciate that. Keep your eye
- 26:31Speaker 1: on the second hole of the PGA Championship this weekend, guys,
- 26:33Speaker 1: it's a big hole.
- 26:34Speaker 4: I'm telling you exactly what's going to do all of this.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Yeah, Taylor, we get legs out of here.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Just a second. Taylor is a quick boy. Go ahead, Taylor.
- 26:43Speaker 7: Yeah, I was just going to clarify. I haven't been
- 26:45Speaker 7: this excited about the Knicks to since they won the
- 26:48Speaker 7: NBA Cup, right.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Yes, listen, do you think you think about it?
- 26:56Speaker 9: Man?
- 26:56Speaker 5: You got you know a team that this this at
- 27:00Speaker 5: a city that loves basketball this much, franchise like the
- 27:04Speaker 5: Knicks fifty three years.
- 27:06Speaker 3: I mean, that's what we're talking about.
- 27:07Speaker 5: Yes, I think since those glory days went four straight
- 27:10Speaker 5: Eastern Conference Finals, I think from seventy one to seventy
- 27:13Speaker 5: four two finals appearances. Since then, I think this is
- 27:17Speaker 5: their seventh conference finals appearance. They've been to the finals
- 27:21Speaker 5: a couple times, have not been able to get across
- 27:24Speaker 5: the finish line. I think the way this team is
- 27:26Speaker 5: playing right now, I think all nick fans feel exactly
- 27:30Speaker 5: the same way. They feel like this could be the
- 27:33Speaker 5: end of this drought.
- 27:35Speaker 6: I don't know what I would do if the Dolphins
- 27:37Speaker 6: won a Super Bowl, but I imagine it's close to
- 27:39Speaker 6: what Taylor feels like right now, because this is close
- 27:41Speaker 6: as he's ever been.
- 27:42Speaker 5: Well, think about this guy was the year. The Commanders
- 27:45Speaker 5: are my squad. As everybody knows, it's been Ben since
- 27:48Speaker 5: ninety one. So you're talking about thirty five years and
- 27:51Speaker 5: guess what you got to tackle on eighteen more to
- 27:54Speaker 5: get to the Knicks.
- 27:55Speaker 8: I mean, so this.
- 27:58Speaker 3: Is how long this is?
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, we're starting fork go ahead is we've
- 28:04Speaker 1: been talking a lot of playoffs.
- 28:05Speaker 6: So I was looking because I was like, man, you
- 28:06Speaker 6: were in a playoff series that I loved. And then
- 28:09Speaker 6: I realized that's your only playoff series in your career.
- 28:11Speaker 5: Not you was man like, not your fan. No, And look,
- 28:13Speaker 5: it's honestly that the course of my career changed when
- 28:17Speaker 5: I you know, at the height of my career, when
- 28:19Speaker 5: I was twenty nine and I thought I was the
- 28:20Speaker 5: best shooter in the league, and I blew my knee
- 28:23Speaker 5: up man badly and I just never really recovered from that.
- 28:26Speaker 3: I retired at a younger age or else.
- 28:28Speaker 5: You know, you never know where your career would lead you,
- 28:30Speaker 5: what team you could go to later in your career
- 28:32Speaker 5: and compete for a championship.
- 28:33Speaker 3: It wasn't able to happen for me. But it's it's
- 28:36Speaker 3: it's okay, So it's too.
- 28:37Speaker 6: I don't know if you remember this series, this was
- 28:39Speaker 6: Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, cal Shaney, Rod Strickland on that
- 28:43Speaker 6: team against of course the Bulls of ninety three.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Ninety ninety six, seven ninety seven, and it.
- 28:51Speaker 6: Was three games, so it was a sweet yeh man,
- 28:54Speaker 6: all amazing. What was your favorite memory of that and
- 28:56Speaker 6: why was it? Michael Jordan dropping fifty.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Five fifty five in game one? I believe it was.
- 29:01Speaker 5: That was certainly memorable, but it was for me it
- 29:03Speaker 5: was it was going into the arena at home when
- 29:07Speaker 5: the series shifted.
- 29:08Speaker 3: First first two were in Chicago.
- 29:10Speaker 5: We go to Washington and we go into the arena
- 29:12Speaker 5: and just like like played there for four years, I
- 29:15Speaker 5: never felt anything like the electricity getting eaten to the
- 29:19Speaker 5: arena that night, Like it was like the Bulls were
- 29:22Speaker 5: in town and for a playoff series, that was the
- 29:25Speaker 5: best home environment that particular night I ever experienced when
- 29:29Speaker 5: I was playing in Washington and we took them right
- 29:31Speaker 5: to the wire. I think Scotty Pippen had a three
- 29:33Speaker 5: point play and inside of a minute to go that
- 29:36Speaker 5: gave them the lead and they were able to.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Hold on it beat us three straight.
- 29:40Speaker 5: But after the game, Michael Jordan famously said the Bullets
- 29:45Speaker 5: are the next team to look out for in the
- 29:47Speaker 5: Eastern Conference because of all of the young, big talent
- 29:50Speaker 5: we had.
- 29:50Speaker 3: And then we proceeded to trade it all away after that.
- 29:54Speaker 3: So I watched.
- 29:58Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, we traded web, We traded we had already
- 30:01Speaker 5: traded Rashid at that point after one year. We traded
- 30:03Speaker 5: Ben Wallace away, we traded Weber. Everybody left.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Man, wait till Leron gets there. Wait, listen, well hold on,
- 30:11Speaker 1: we'll get to that in a second. When Jordan says
- 30:13Speaker 1: you're close, what you do is you trade away all
- 30:15Speaker 1: your best players. That's what you do. We'll let Tim
- 30:17Speaker 1: get out of here. At just as second. Taylor has
- 30:19Speaker 1: a theory here. The only way that Lebron can catch
- 30:22Speaker 1: Jordan is if he go if he does something that
- 30:24Speaker 1: Jordan couldn't do, go to Washington and win an NBA title.
- 30:29Speaker 4: How do you feel about that if he were to
- 30:30Speaker 4: pull that off.
- 30:31Speaker 5: I think everybody would probably put him there if he
- 30:34Speaker 5: pulls that off. I mean, that's just looking at where
- 30:36Speaker 5: they are right now. They've already had a bunch of
- 30:38Speaker 5: lottery picks. They just added the number one pick in
- 30:41Speaker 5: the draft. But they're so young. They seem so far away.
- 30:44Speaker 5: If Lebron are able to go there in one year
- 30:46Speaker 5: and do that pairing up with Ad again, yeah, I
- 30:50Speaker 5: think a lot of people would put Lebron there.
- 30:51Speaker 8: It looks like they got a hole in the small
- 30:53Speaker 8: forward spot. I think it's perfect for him.
- 30:56Speaker 1: They got a hold the power forward. He's always injured anyway. Listen,
- 31:01Speaker 1: it's the right thing to say. Just say yes, because
- 31:03Speaker 1: he knows Lebron's not going to do it, meaning go
- 31:05Speaker 1: to Washington.
- 31:06Speaker 4: That's somewhere he's going.
- 31:07Speaker 1: All right, Yes, Game five tonight, Calves and Pistons. Tim
- 31:10Speaker 1: Legler is on the call. He is excellent. He knows
- 31:13Speaker 1: more basketball than any person I know, by a lot,
- 31:16Speaker 1: except for Israel Goody. Era's close second. Tim, Thanks for
- 31:20Speaker 1: the time. We appreciate. Were you nervous before that game too?
- 31:22Speaker 1: In the playoffs?
- 31:23Speaker 4: Were you nervous the game?
- 31:24Speaker 11: You know?
- 31:25Speaker 3: Always?
- 31:25Speaker 4: Game two?
- 31:27Speaker 9: You know that? All right.
- 31:30Speaker 4: We appreciate the time during a busy time. Thank you
- 31:33Speaker 4: for doing this, man, you got.
- 31:34Speaker 3: It anytime, guys, all right, thank you.
- 31:36Speaker 2: B Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson
- 31:39Speaker 2: Company Live Weekday, said three pm Eastern, twelve pm Pacific.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Or very exciting. Landon Donovan is with us. He was
- 31:47Speaker 1: asking us Nicks questions right before we got started. Here
- 31:50Speaker 1: he is with us on behalf of Next Cafe Espresso Keg,
- 31:54Speaker 1: what are you doing with them?
- 31:55Speaker 4: Landing before we get to the Knicks and maybe some soccer.
- 31:58Speaker 11: Well, I grew up with My mom had it in
- 32:01Speaker 11: the home growing up, so it's nostalgic for me. But
- 32:04Speaker 11: as we get to the Knicks, imagine the Knicks playing
- 32:07Speaker 11: four times a day, every day.
- 32:09Speaker 12: For thirty nine days.
- 32:11Speaker 11: Just what the World Cup's going to be this summer
- 32:13Speaker 11: and we have an ability to talk about soccer twenty
- 32:16Speaker 11: four to seven, And I think the best way to
- 32:19Speaker 11: do it is with Nest Cafe and connecting before the game,
- 32:22Speaker 11: after the game, continuing to talk about this sport that
- 32:26Speaker 11: I love so much.
- 32:27Speaker 4: How many espressed espressos does land and Donovan.
- 32:30Speaker 11: Have in a day, Well, when I'm working the World Cup,
- 32:33Speaker 11: it's going to be like two or three. It's as
- 32:38Speaker 11: you know, when you're working sporting events like that, it's
- 32:40Speaker 11: a grind.
- 32:41Speaker 4: So I have the.
- 32:44Speaker 11: Amazing opportunity to call the games, but it's a lot
- 32:47Speaker 11: of work, and Next Cafe helps me stay energized throughout.
- 32:50Speaker 6: It Land, and I got a bunch of World Cup questions.
- 32:52Speaker 6: But I really want to ask you a next question,
- 32:54Speaker 6: because you're asking about the next excited level of fandom.
- 32:58Speaker 6: How excited are you with them?
- 33:01Speaker 11: Well, I'm just I like to see teams that have
- 33:04Speaker 11: perpetually suffered do well in some cases. I've gotten to
- 33:09Speaker 11: know Jerry Ferrara, who was turntle On Entourage, pretty well
- 33:12Speaker 11: and he's a diehard Knicks fan. So we were at
- 33:15Speaker 11: an event last month together and he has so much
- 33:18Speaker 11: anxiety around this, So to see them doing well makes
- 33:21Speaker 11: me happy for him and happy for Knicks fans Landon.
- 33:24Speaker 7: We're running into a problem where we would love to
- 33:26Speaker 7: sit court side at a Knicks playoff game, but we
- 33:28Speaker 7: don't really have an in. You could stroll into Madison
- 33:32Speaker 7: Square Garden tomorrow and they'll put you right there.
- 33:34Speaker 4: That's right.
- 33:35Speaker 7: Could we come to the game with you potentially?
- 33:36Speaker 4: Maybe? What do you think I mean we think we
- 33:39Speaker 4: need Yeah.
- 33:39Speaker 12: You need to call Jerry. I think we can get you.
- 33:42Speaker 9: Wait, you turtle call.
- 33:44Speaker 4: You've never sat court side for the next game? No, sir, really,
- 33:48Speaker 4: I would love to.
- 33:49Speaker 11: Yeah, you know what, I would actually prefer to do
- 33:51Speaker 11: at MSG is go to a Billy Joel concert.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Really, can you help me do that?
- 33:56Speaker 1: Listen, you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. I'll get
- 33:59Speaker 1: you to Billy Joel. You get me courtside for a
- 34:01Speaker 1: next game, and we're good.
- 34:02Speaker 4: I'll take preseason landed.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Have you been frustrated because I've been railing against US
- 34:10Speaker 1: men's soccer And I'm sorry to do that, Okay, but
- 34:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest with you and tell you because
- 34:14Speaker 1: I've been hearing since the nineteen eighties that this is it,
- 34:17Speaker 1: this is the soccer splurg that we're finally going to
- 34:20Speaker 1: see the explosion of men's soccer in the United States,
- 34:24Speaker 1: and yet it's never happened, and I'm wondering why it
- 34:26Speaker 1: hasn't happened. And if you're frustrated over the fact that
- 34:29Speaker 1: it hasn't happened yet, well.
- 34:32Speaker 12: I view it a little bit differently.
- 34:34Speaker 11: And this is not believe me, not drinking the kool aid,
- 34:36Speaker 11: because I'm as critical as anybody. But we want things
- 34:39Speaker 11: in society to happen right away. And the reality is,
- 34:42Speaker 11: if you look at Bajor League Baseball, the NFL, the
- 34:45Speaker 11: NBA in the early days they weren't what they are now, right.
- 34:48Speaker 12: So this takes time to build.
- 34:51Speaker 11: My frustration is in two thousand and two I played
- 34:54Speaker 11: in a World Cup in South Korea. We got to
- 34:57Speaker 11: the quarterfinals and that is still the furthest we've ever got.
- 35:01Speaker 11: And so my frustration is not about off the field
- 35:04Speaker 11: and the growth. I think the growth of soccer in
- 35:06Speaker 11: this country has been amazing. It's more on the field.
- 35:08Speaker 11: Why we haven't eclipsed that. And there was a study
- 35:11Speaker 11: just came out recently. They asked, I think it's a
- 35:14Speaker 11: thousand Americans what their favorite sport was. NFL was number one,
- 35:18Speaker 11: is predictable, NBA was number two. Soccer was number three
- 35:23Speaker 11: for the first time, ahead of baseball and hockey. And
- 35:25Speaker 11: so the sport is growing off the field, But my
- 35:28Speaker 11: frustration sometimes lies with why haven't we achieved more on
- 35:31Speaker 11: the field.
- 35:32Speaker 4: Why haven't we.
- 35:35Speaker 12: I'm going to stay off my soapbox here, but I'll
- 35:39Speaker 12: keep this brief.
- 35:40Speaker 11: The reality is is you have to develop players that
- 35:42Speaker 11: are capable of playing at a world class level, and
- 35:46Speaker 11: we just haven't done that. We had more world class
- 35:49Speaker 11: players twenty years ago than we do today. And the
- 35:53Speaker 11: youth soccer and youth development in this country needs some work,
- 35:57Speaker 11: so we have to do a better job of that,
- 36:00Speaker 11: and that's how you get players that can succeed at
- 36:03Speaker 11: this level.
- 36:03Speaker 7: Landon, what do you think are realistic expectations for the
- 36:06Speaker 7: US entering this World Cup? Because every time I hear
- 36:09Speaker 7: Poach talk about this team, he's not really getting me excited.
- 36:13Speaker 7: When he's like, we don't have any top one hundred players,
- 36:17Speaker 7: he's lower expectations.
- 36:19Speaker 12: You don't have to have top level talent to succeed,
- 36:24Speaker 12: like look at the Knicks.
- 36:25Speaker 9: No, I'm just kidding.
- 36:28Speaker 12: If you have, especially in.
- 36:30Speaker 11: Soccer, if you have eleven men or women who play
- 36:33Speaker 11: well together, if they have enough quality.
- 36:36Speaker 12: You can succeed. Our two thousand and two team was
- 36:39Speaker 12: a great example of that.
- 36:40Speaker 11: We didn't have any top fifty players in the world
- 36:42Speaker 11: on that team, but we were successful because we were
- 36:45Speaker 11: a good team. This team has better players than any
- 36:48Speaker 11: team we've ever had on the men's side, and so
- 36:51Speaker 11: if they're able to get that part right, continuity and
- 36:56Speaker 11: playing well together, they can do very very well. They
- 36:59Speaker 11: have a very favorable group. We should get out of
- 37:02Speaker 11: our group no problem, and we should probably win our group,
- 37:05Speaker 11: and from there that sets you on a path that
- 37:07Speaker 11: gives you a really good chance to go deep into
- 37:08Speaker 11: the tournament.
- 37:09Speaker 6: That kind of scares me, to be honest, to say
- 37:11Speaker 6: that a US team should get out of the group
- 37:13Speaker 6: or should win the group.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Like I don't know, I don't know what nobody's saying it,
- 37:17Speaker 1: but I think you're saying soccer fans could take some
- 37:19Speaker 1: solace in this team is good enough and they're set
- 37:21Speaker 1: up correctly for them to have a good World Cup.
- 37:24Speaker 12: Yeah, and they look, you have to perform right that.
- 37:27Speaker 11: The reality with soccer, not just similar from the Olympics,
- 37:32Speaker 11: is every four years you have the ability to do
- 37:35Speaker 11: something really special that grows the sport more than anything
- 37:38Speaker 11: in the prior four years could do. So they have
- 37:41Speaker 11: an opportunity this summer, especially with it being on home soil,
- 37:44Speaker 11: to really push the sport forward.
- 37:47Speaker 6: Landon obviously played in World Cups, attended other World Cups,
- 37:50Speaker 6: and it is such you know, it is the world
- 37:52Speaker 6: sporting event, right, But it feels like, and correct me
- 37:55Speaker 6: if I'm wrong here, it feels like it's getting some
- 37:56Speaker 6: bad pr here in North America just from some of
- 37:59Speaker 6: the whether it be the cost situation, ticket prices, transportation,
- 38:03Speaker 6: what have you for somebody who has the perspective of
- 38:07Speaker 6: understanding how massive these events are. Are we getting prematurely upset?
- 38:12Speaker 6: Will it live up to, you know, expectations of this
- 38:15Speaker 6: event that we love here in our country or in
- 38:17Speaker 6: this continent, or is it you know, is some of
- 38:20Speaker 6: the things that are approaching as its tournament approach is
- 38:23Speaker 6: really questioning or questionable.
- 38:25Speaker 11: Rather, Yes, we're going to have the level of excitement
- 38:29Speaker 11: and it's going to meet and exceed the expectations. Every
- 38:32Speaker 11: World Cup I've been a part of since I can remember,
- 38:36Speaker 11: there's this quiet period about a month or two before
- 38:39Speaker 11: the World Cup where there's no qualifiers, the rosters haven't
- 38:42Speaker 11: been announced yet, the teams have already been drawn into
- 38:45Speaker 11: the groups, and so there's really nothing to talk about, right,
- 38:48Speaker 11: and so you start to hear blurbs of disappointment or
- 38:52Speaker 11: this or every World Cup I've been a part of
- 38:55Speaker 11: has been spectacular. There's been no issues, and I fully
- 38:58Speaker 11: anticipate the exact same aim to happen this summer. Once
- 39:01Speaker 11: we get into June, all of this will dissipate and
- 39:04Speaker 11: and people be really excited to connect around this beautiful Gamelandon.
- 39:09Speaker 7: You had a loan spell at Everton. I'm a Liverpool guys,
- 39:12Speaker 7: but we'll save that. Could you explain to people in
- 39:21Speaker 7: the US that maybe aren't following the Premier League that
- 39:24Speaker 7: closely the disaster that would be Tottenham getting relegated and
- 39:27Speaker 7: going down.
- 39:30Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean, I'll equate it to your neck of
- 39:32Speaker 12: the woods.
- 39:33Speaker 11: It would like it would be like the Yankees finishing
- 39:36Speaker 11: in last place and playing in Triple A next year
- 39:39Speaker 11: because of that. And so in the soccer world, if
- 39:42Speaker 11: you finish in the bottom three of the English Premier League,
- 39:45Speaker 11: you move down to the division lower. And so can
- 39:48Speaker 11: you imagine the Yankees playing the you know, Hot Tucket
- 39:53Speaker 11: Red Sox every game or during the year next year,
- 39:57Speaker 11: and and some other team coming up that is that
- 39:59Speaker 11: is the equivalent of it.
- 40:01Speaker 12: And so there's a.
- 40:01Speaker 11: Massive story going on in England that Tottenham, one of
- 40:04Speaker 11: the historically best teams, may end up getting relegated to
- 40:09Speaker 11: a division below Landin.
- 40:11Speaker 1: We'll get to Taylor's soccer roles that he wants to
- 40:14Speaker 1: apply to US sports in just a second. I am
- 40:16Speaker 1: wondering if you could explain to the audience here the difference,
- 40:20Speaker 1: at least from your perspective of playing in a World
- 40:23Speaker 1: Cup soccer game as opposed to any other soccer match.
- 40:27Speaker 12: Yeah. Again, I'll use sports analogy.
- 40:29Speaker 11: So Yankees, Red Sox or Knick Nets or Nick Sixers
- 40:33Speaker 11: or you have that pride and that passion for your
- 40:36Speaker 11: city and your team, and we have that with regular
- 40:40Speaker 11: soccer matches with our club teams. The difference in a
- 40:43Speaker 11: World Cup is you're putting national pride on top of that.
- 40:47Speaker 11: So when you think about the greatest college football rivalries
- 40:51Speaker 11: and the intensity and how the fans feel, now add
- 40:53Speaker 11: national pride to that. And so if you get a
- 40:56Speaker 11: chance to go to a game, I would absolutely recommend
- 40:59Speaker 11: people it because it is unlike any sporting event you'll
- 41:02Speaker 11: ever see in your life.
- 41:03Speaker 4: Landon.
- 41:04Speaker 7: The one that I really want to bring over is
- 41:06Speaker 7: players going on loan where teams like the Marlins need money. Yeah,
- 41:10Speaker 7: so they could just take like, you know, twenty million
- 41:12Speaker 7: dollars to loan out some of their best players. Of
- 41:14Speaker 7: the Yankees, you think that could work in Americans?
- 41:16Speaker 12: Actually, I actually love that. I guess I love it
- 41:18Speaker 12: in all sports.
- 41:19Speaker 11: Or it's it's more like if the Yankees have a
- 41:23Speaker 11: really good prospect, but he's you know, sitting behind Aaron
- 41:27Speaker 11: Judge and he's not going to play for two, three, four?
- 41:30Speaker 11: Can you loan him to a team that has less
- 41:32Speaker 11: money that you know and needs him and let him
- 41:35Speaker 11: play there for the year.
- 41:36Speaker 12: I think it's a great idea.
- 41:37Speaker 4: Who's not a threat? Like, you know, who's not a
- 41:39Speaker 4: threat to you?
- 41:40Speaker 12: Right?
- 41:40Speaker 11: You want to maybe to the other conference or the
- 41:42Speaker 11: other the national league or you know.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Yeah, last quick thing landed?
- 41:46Speaker 7: Is there?
- 41:46Speaker 6: If there's a guy on the team who would be
- 41:49Speaker 6: more of a household name by the end of this
- 41:51Speaker 6: World Cup on the US team, who would that be?
- 41:53Speaker 11: Well, there's a few who some people will know are
- 41:56Speaker 11: people who fall soccer. Christian Polisic for sure. I think
- 42:00Speaker 11: Weston McKenny, who plays in Italy as well for Juventus.
- 42:04Speaker 11: He's playing literally the best soccer of his life right
- 42:07Speaker 11: now heading into the tournament. He's also charismatic, very like
- 42:11Speaker 11: good on camera, fun to be around. I think if
- 42:14Speaker 11: he performs well, he could absolutely be the breakout star
- 42:17Speaker 11: for our team this.
- 42:18Speaker 1: World Cudright, final question, We'll get you out of here
- 42:20Speaker 1: and promote Nest Cafe one more time we play a
- 42:22Speaker 1: game around here, PK for your life.
- 42:24Speaker 4: Okay, you have to choose a guy to take a.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Penalty kick and your life depends on it, all right,
- 42:29Speaker 1: Messi or Ronaldo?
- 42:30Speaker 9: Right?
- 42:31Speaker 4: Which one? Messi? Ronaldo PK for your life. It's a
- 42:34Speaker 4: tough one.
- 42:35Speaker 12: Yes, I take either.
- 42:37Speaker 8: But he's feeling pretty good about your life.
- 42:40Speaker 11: I'll say Messi because he's won a World Cup, so
- 42:42Speaker 11: he can handle the pressure, and he's had so much
- 42:43Speaker 11: pressure on him his whole career.
- 42:45Speaker 4: All right, Lenn, we appreciate the time.
- 42:46Speaker 1: One more time on the way out, if you don't mind,
- 42:48Speaker 1: please promote what it is you're doing with nest cafet.
- 42:52Speaker 9: You.
- 42:52Speaker 11: We're encouraging people to connect through the game that I
- 42:57Speaker 11: really love, and there are going to be four games
- 42:59Speaker 11: a day for most is, so wake up, have a
- 43:02Speaker 11: coffee in between the games. Connect you have you know,
- 43:05Speaker 11: both of the haves, and think of this as your
- 43:07Speaker 11: third half where you're talking about the game and connecting
- 43:10Speaker 11: with people you love, using this cafe to help feel you.
- 43:14Speaker 4: All right, man, we appreciate it. You're great.
- 43:17Speaker 1: I'll be in touch with you about Billy Joel work
- 43:19Speaker 1: on the Nick floor seats for America.
- 43:21Speaker 6: Yes, American sports hero should always get tickets to whatever
- 43:25Speaker 6: MSGIV I.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Think Landon doesn't realize he can walk into the Mecca
- 43:28Speaker 1: today and sit court side.
- 43:29Speaker 4: He doesn't realize what a hero he is. He does it.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Thank you, Landon.
- 43:32Speaker 12: Thanks, I hope you're right all right.
- 43:34Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gotson Company
- 43:39Speaker 2: live weekdays at three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific on
- 43:43Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 43:47Speaker 4: Very excited about this.
- 43:48Speaker 1: His brother has become a friend of mine, a friend
- 43:51Speaker 1: of the show, Chris Long. Kyle Long is with us though,
- 43:54Speaker 1: and I'm very excited he's with us to promote Generation five.
- 43:57Speaker 1: We have a game for him at the end. He
- 43:59Speaker 1: loves games, which I very excited about. Tell us about
- 44:02Speaker 1: what you're doing with Generation Fine, Kyle.
- 44:04Speaker 9: All right, So I partner with Johnson and Johnson on
- 44:07Speaker 9: the Generation Fine movement, which is really having an attention
- 44:11Speaker 9: to the fact that we all deal with mental health.
- 44:14Speaker 9: You know, we all have it's a spectrum, so we've
- 44:16Speaker 9: all got a different thing going on. But one thing
- 44:18Speaker 9: we can all have a unifying conversation over is the
- 44:21Speaker 9: fact that talking about this stuff is good. And when
- 44:25Speaker 9: I played, everybody would always text me during the season.
- 44:27Speaker 9: You know, nobody sees you during the season, but they
- 44:29Speaker 9: text you, how you doing, I'm fine, I'm good. That
- 44:32Speaker 9: doesn't have to be the benchmark, right Like, we should
- 44:36Speaker 9: be striving for better than that. And in order to
- 44:38Speaker 9: do that, you're gonna have to have some tough conversations.
- 44:42Speaker 9: Look yourself in the mirror. And a great place to
- 44:44Speaker 9: start if you feel like you're somebody that's dealing with
- 44:46Speaker 9: this is generation dash fine dot com. There's tools, resources, information.
- 44:53Speaker 9: But being in a football family, I know how important
- 44:55Speaker 9: mental health is. It doesn't affect just me, but my wife,
- 44:59Speaker 9: my the people I work with, and it goes for players, coaches, scouts,
- 45:05Speaker 9: support staff, trainers in the NFL, and I would imagine
- 45:08Speaker 9: it permeates everywhere on earth. People have to deal with
- 45:13Speaker 9: mental health. So this is a good starting point. I
- 45:15Speaker 9: want to destigmatize that conversation.
- 45:18Speaker 4: I was going to ask, why is this a personal
- 45:20Speaker 4: thing for you? Why is this so important to you?
- 45:22Speaker 9: Well, when I was playing, I started to notice that
- 45:25Speaker 9: there were some days that were harder than others to
- 45:27Speaker 9: get out of bed. I mean even when I was
- 45:28Speaker 9: an All Pro, and it wasn't because I was sore.
- 45:31Speaker 9: It was because I had something going on between the
- 45:33Speaker 9: six inches between my ears and I had to take accountability,
- 45:37Speaker 9: take ownership, and realize that, Like if I sprain my ankle,
- 45:41Speaker 9: I'm going to go and take care of that and
- 45:43Speaker 9: I'm going to do the treatment that I need. Why
- 45:45Speaker 9: wouldn't I do the same thing if I'm dealing with
- 45:48Speaker 9: depression or anxiety or anything along those lines. There's a
- 45:52Speaker 9: lot of us that do. And I promise you we've
- 45:54Speaker 9: all got a little bit of poundage that's sitting on
- 45:57Speaker 9: our shoulders and on our chest because of things that
- 45:59Speaker 9: we didn't say, conversations we haven't had, regrets we may have.
- 46:04Speaker 9: So I would urge you guys to step up. And
- 46:10Speaker 9: you know, I want to say, you know, be a man,
- 46:12Speaker 9: and I want to rebrand that too. I mean, being
- 46:15Speaker 9: a man's looking out for yourself and the people that
- 46:18Speaker 9: love you and you love. What better way to do
- 46:20Speaker 9: that than to have these conversations.
- 46:23Speaker 8: Hey, Kyle, I'm curious, hello, by the way, are you doing?
- 46:26Speaker 8: What do you suggest when somebody doesn't know?
- 46:28Speaker 9: Like?
- 46:30Speaker 8: What does that feel like?
- 46:31Speaker 6: What if I don't know if having a bad day
- 46:33Speaker 6: actually just means anything, if it's weighing on me, isn't
- 46:36Speaker 6: that the conversations that they have to have, right.
- 46:39Speaker 9: I would say that you learn about yourself in comparing
- 46:42Speaker 9: and contrasting with others. And while you and I may
- 46:46Speaker 9: not have the same things, I'm sure that in a
- 46:50Speaker 9: five to two minute conversation you and I can find
- 46:54Speaker 9: something that's like common ground this ven diagram, And if
- 46:58Speaker 9: you talk to enough people, or if you have enough
- 47:00Speaker 9: conversations with that person, you should be able to identify
- 47:03Speaker 9: some of the things that maybe you know, what I
- 47:04Speaker 9: thought I was doing great, but this I can tweak
- 47:07Speaker 9: the margins on this, I can be even better than great.
- 47:11Speaker 9: You know. It's it's applicable for anybody on this spectrum.
- 47:15Speaker 1: Kyle, I'm wondering you and your brother do such great
- 47:18Speaker 1: work off the field, Like who instilled that into you guys?
- 47:21Speaker 4: Was that from your parents? Was that dad who told you, hey,
- 47:23Speaker 4: use the platform, use it for good, for good.
- 47:26Speaker 9: Use Well, my dad's obviously always been, you know, a
- 47:29Speaker 9: model citizen. But it's it's my mom, Diane, who is
- 47:33Speaker 9: just on you know, she's on dozens of boards for
- 47:36Speaker 9: nonprofits and charitable organizations. I think that using your platform
- 47:43Speaker 9: and helping other people is something that we got from
- 47:46Speaker 9: our dad, but we definitely got from our mom. Diane
- 47:49Speaker 9: and she's an all star. And you can see it
- 47:51Speaker 9: with Chris. I mean, he's been a man on a
- 47:53Speaker 9: mission for a long time.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Kyle.
- 47:55Speaker 7: I saw a funny story about you and Matt Naggie's
- 48:01Speaker 7: first day with the Bears.
- 48:04Speaker 8: Could you tell these guys about that story.
- 48:06Speaker 4: He's rubbing his heads, I'll do his face. What is
- 48:10Speaker 4: going on on?
- 48:10Speaker 9: Good research, by the way, good research. So I had
- 48:14Speaker 9: just moved into a new house in Lake Forest, Illinois.
- 48:17Speaker 9: Beautiful house, beautiful house, and I knew that the first
- 48:21Speaker 9: day was this was like a Sunday night. I go
- 48:24Speaker 9: to bed, I plug my phone in, I set my alarm.
- 48:27Speaker 9: I'm an early guy. I'm their way early. I bring
- 48:30Speaker 9: like a sixty degree wedge and I'm out there hitting it.
- 48:32Speaker 9: You know, you got to tell me to get out
- 48:34Speaker 9: of the building. Well, I plugged my phone into a
- 48:38Speaker 9: dead outlet and I used white noise and white noise
- 48:41Speaker 9: on Spotify. It drains your battery unless you're plugged in.
- 48:45Speaker 9: I woke up peacefully at about seven thirty am, which
- 48:48Speaker 9: was about an hour and a half after my alarm
- 48:51Speaker 9: was supposed to go off. And I'm I'm like one
- 48:54Speaker 9: of the guys on this team. And we have a
- 48:55Speaker 9: brand new coach. Well, I slept through that meeting and
- 49:00Speaker 9: the first meeting, and in the video in the presentation
- 49:05Speaker 9: was like we need guys that are accountable and do things.
- 49:08Speaker 9: And it's like I'm all over the presentation. I'm like
- 49:13Speaker 9: the guy and I'm nowhere to be found. I just
- 49:18Speaker 9: remember the head of security, John Tarpy, called me. I'm
- 49:22Speaker 9: in my kitchen like scrambling to get out the door,
- 49:27Speaker 9: and Tarpy called me. He's like, you missed the first meeting.
- 49:30Speaker 9: And I'm like, this is not what it looks like.
- 49:32Speaker 9: It wasn't a contract situation or anything. It was just
- 49:35Speaker 9: a dead outlet and here I am talking about it
- 49:38Speaker 9: nine years later. I'll never forget that, so I always
- 49:41Speaker 9: make sure my stuff is charging.
- 49:43Speaker 1: You're scarred by that. I mean it's like that was
- 49:45Speaker 1: painful for you. I mean, yeah, you need that though,
- 49:49Speaker 1: you kind.
- 49:49Speaker 9: Of need that, like fear right, if you're going to
- 49:52Speaker 9: be in the National Football League.
- 49:53Speaker 1: Would you be surprised if I told you during Super
- 49:56Speaker 1: Bowl Week your brother invited me out on a lawn
- 49:59Speaker 1: to take ushrooms and just stare at the Golden Gate Bridge.
- 50:02Speaker 9: This is like the least surprising thing I've ever heard.
- 50:06Speaker 9: You know, Chris is always on his journey of discovery,
- 50:10Speaker 9: and I think that did you take him up on
- 50:13Speaker 9: that invitation?
- 50:14Speaker 4: Also not surprising Stu, No, no, no, Chris did not.
- 50:19Speaker 4: Chris Taylor told the story Chris never showed up to
- 50:21Speaker 4: the lawn. I think he took him. He was too
- 50:23Speaker 4: paranoid to leave the house, something like.
- 50:25Speaker 9: You know what, it sounds like an overwhelming evening. And
- 50:29Speaker 9: I'm you know, me and Chris are so we're so alike,
- 50:32Speaker 9: but we're so different. I mean, I'm so happy to
- 50:34Speaker 9: know him. Man, he exposes me to so many crazy things.
- 50:37Speaker 9: I'm just I'm just happy. He's a nice guy, is he?
- 50:41Speaker 1: We're gonna play a game here of Chris or Kyle,
- 50:43Speaker 1: and then we'll have Chris on to get his answers
- 50:45Speaker 1: and we'll match him up against Kyle's answers.
- 50:47Speaker 4: How does that sound you like games? You said, right?
- 50:51Speaker 9: Love games? Big game guy.
- 50:53Speaker 4: Okay, Mom's favorite, Chris my favorite.
- 50:58Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm gonna take Kyle.
- 51:02Speaker 4: Huh really why?
- 51:06Speaker 10: I just I don't know.
- 51:07Speaker 9: I got a gut feeling here.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Here's the deal.
- 51:11Speaker 9: So my mom and I have a lot of overlap,
- 51:14Speaker 9: Like obviously people look at me and they're like, Oh,
- 51:16Speaker 9: that's how he's kid. He's huge, he's a football player.
- 51:18Speaker 9: My mom was like musical theater. I did that in
- 51:21Speaker 9: junior high drama club. I was into that. There's a
- 51:24Speaker 9: lot of the things that my mom that makes up
- 51:28Speaker 9: her personality that I find in me. Chris and my
- 51:31Speaker 9: dad are very similar in terms of just like type
- 51:34Speaker 9: a squarehead, great hair.
- 51:38Speaker 8: Kyle, I could tell you from somebody who is absolutely
- 51:41Speaker 8: not the favorite.
- 51:42Speaker 7: If you're the favorite, you know, in my house there
- 51:44Speaker 7: were more pictures of my brother with his lacrosse coach
- 51:47Speaker 7: than there were of me.
- 51:48Speaker 9: That's unbelievable. The lacrosse coach gets more.
- 51:53Speaker 8: The lacrosse coach had more walls.
- 51:55Speaker 9: Chris would be the first guy to say that I'm
- 51:58Speaker 9: the favorite, Like, like, Kyle's definitely the favorite, and I'm like,
- 52:01Speaker 9: I have to think about it.
- 52:03Speaker 4: Yeah, But Chris says that knowing that everyone else knows
- 52:06Speaker 4: that Kyle is the favorite, right, I feel like, Yeah,
- 52:09Speaker 4: he's too serious.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Right, Chris or Kyle dad's favorite. Me didn't even hesitate
- 52:16Speaker 1: that one.
- 52:17Speaker 9: He didn't hesitate, Okay.
- 52:20Speaker 4: Chris or Kyle best gift giver?
- 52:22Speaker 9: H Chris is probably a really gift good gift giver
- 52:25Speaker 9: because he's pre CBA so he can give big gifts,
- 52:31Speaker 9: huge gifts. Yes, what kind of gifts do you like?
- 52:34Speaker 4: Just go pick one out right, go to Uncle Chris,
- 52:38Speaker 4: like all my gifts.
- 52:40Speaker 9: I put him on Layaway.
- 52:45Speaker 4: Oh my god, best singing voice Chris or Kyle Uh.
- 52:49Speaker 9: I like to sing. I like to sing. And it
- 52:51Speaker 9: goes back to that musical background stuff. I really do
- 52:54Speaker 9: enjoy singing anything.
- 52:56Speaker 4: Okay, what's your go to? Like, what's the song you'll
- 52:58Speaker 4: sing out loud in the shower?
- 52:59Speaker 9: Well, right now, it's a lot of the Disney princess stuff. So,
- 53:04Speaker 9: but you know, with these Disney movies. By the way,
- 53:07Speaker 9: watched Tarzan yesterday, Yeah, the original Phil Collins. Collins have
- 53:13Speaker 9: a day. Hats off to Phil Collins. Unbelievable. And my
- 53:17Speaker 9: kids aren't big like movie buffs. They listened to all
- 53:19Speaker 9: the music. But yesterday was like thunder and lightning and
- 53:22Speaker 9: South Forest. So we put the kids on the couch,
- 53:24Speaker 9: we put Tarzan on. I've never seen more locked in
- 53:28Speaker 9: people than watching Tarzan. And then when Phil Collins come
- 53:31Speaker 9: come on, this is nothing better.
- 53:33Speaker 4: Yeah, Hall of Famer, go ahead, Mikey I.
- 53:35Speaker 9: Got a two parter here, who is the funniest and
- 53:38Speaker 9: who thinks they're the funniest.
- 53:39Speaker 4: That's good.
- 53:40Speaker 9: Chris is probably the funniest. I definitely think I'm the.
- 53:43Speaker 4: Funniest, but you know you're not funny, Like that's what
- 53:47Speaker 4: makes it funny.
- 53:48Speaker 9: It's like I will swing the bat, I will swing hard.
- 53:51Speaker 9: I will swing hard. One time, so I was I'm
- 53:54Speaker 9: friends with like Will Compton and those guys, and I
- 53:56Speaker 9: ran into Will outside of a super Bowl party one
- 53:59Speaker 9: night and we had all had a couple of pops.
- 54:01Speaker 9: I think Drake was playing. It was a very cool venue.
- 54:04Speaker 9: We weren't supposed to be there, and we walk outside
- 54:07Speaker 9: and you know, you see the light of like the
- 54:10Speaker 9: Ubers and everything when you leave. And I saw Will
- 54:12Speaker 9: with Shane Gillis, who I'm a huge fan of Shane Gillis,
- 54:15Speaker 9: and I walked up and I cracked the joke. I
- 54:17Speaker 9: cracked the joke to Will Compton, like making fun of him,
- 54:20Speaker 9: and Shane looks at me and he goes, good joke, idiot,
- 54:24Speaker 9: Like it was a terrible joke, and he called me
- 54:27Speaker 9: on it. But that's an example of like, but I'm
- 54:29Speaker 9: not afraid if I'm coming again with it.
- 54:32Speaker 8: But for a comedian, that also wasn't a great retort
- 54:34Speaker 8: by Shane.
- 54:35Speaker 9: He looked at me like, good joke. Oh that killed
- 54:39Speaker 9: me for a couple of days.
- 54:43Speaker 4: Most likely to attempt to pay for dinner Chris or Kyle.
- 54:47Speaker 9: Most likely to attempt to play for pay for dinner.
- 54:49Speaker 9: That would be Chris. So he could leave as soon
- 54:51Speaker 9: as he's done eating.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Wait what does he do soone the second he's done chewing,
- 54:58Speaker 1: he gets up, pays for the meal and leaves.
- 55:00Speaker 4: Yes, well, you know what.
- 55:01Speaker 9: I just think he's a homebody and if you don't,
- 55:03Speaker 9: if you're not grilling at his house, he is in
- 55:06Speaker 9: a track meet to the door to try to get home.
- 55:09Speaker 9: He's one of those guys.
- 55:10Speaker 1: All right, final one here, Taylor has a question, and
- 55:13Speaker 1: then we'll promote what you're doing one more time on
- 55:14Speaker 1: the way out. We appreciate the time. I want to
- 55:16Speaker 1: do this more. I want to have you with Chris. Yeah,
- 55:20Speaker 1: I want to have you and Chris saw it together.
- 55:22Speaker 1: The guy who gives the biggest tips Chris.
- 55:25Speaker 9: Or Kyle biggest tips. Yeah, yeah, I think I tip
- 55:30Speaker 9: pretty well because most of the time when I tip,
- 55:33Speaker 9: it's hit the golf course.
- 55:35Speaker 4: Right.
- 55:35Speaker 9: And for example, there's a public course down here in
- 55:38Speaker 9: South Florida called Osprey Point. It's like the best public
- 55:41Speaker 9: course in the state.
- 55:43Speaker 4: And I played it a number of times.
- 55:44Speaker 9: It's fantastic, fantastic, right, throw the starter a couple bones.
- 55:50Speaker 9: Make sure you take care of the people that clean
- 55:52Speaker 9: your clubs in your car, because when you show up
- 55:55Speaker 9: on a random day and you say, man, maybe i'd
- 55:57Speaker 9: go out and play eighteen, those are the same people
- 55:59Speaker 9: that make the decision. Now, I'm not saying treat people
- 56:02Speaker 9: well so you can get things, but if you want
- 56:04Speaker 9: to be a good tipper, it pays to do it
- 56:07Speaker 9: at the golf course that people take care of you.
- 56:10Speaker 4: All Right, how about me and you around at Osbrey Point.
- 56:13Speaker 13: How does that sounds a handicap?
- 56:17Speaker 4: My handicap's like a fifteen fifteen.
- 56:19Speaker 9: We'd have a hell of a day.
- 56:20Speaker 4: Okay, let's do it.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Yes, But I tend to h I tend to dabble
- 56:25Speaker 1: on some of Chris's things more so than yours.
- 56:27Speaker 9: Just so yeah, that free zone, Okay, I can't.
- 56:35Speaker 4: Dabble right the third hole, every hole, Taylor, go ahead, Kyle.
- 56:39Speaker 7: So, I played football at UNC and I once dropped
- 56:41Speaker 7: a pass, and on my way back to the sideline, my.
- 56:44Speaker 4: Coach said, don't worry.
- 56:46Speaker 9: The world needs average people too.
- 56:48Speaker 7: And I'm wondering, from your experience in locker rooms and
- 56:52Speaker 7: around coaches, what's the meanest thing a coach has ever
- 56:55Speaker 7: said to you?
- 56:56Speaker 9: The meanest thing a coach ever said to me? So
- 57:00Speaker 9: flashback to the Matt Naggi first year. Okay, and I
- 57:03Speaker 9: finally got to the building and we started doing our practices.
- 57:06Speaker 9: We did our first practice and again I met with
- 57:10Speaker 9: Naggi after the missing the meeting, and I'm back in
- 57:13Speaker 9: the good graces as one of the guys. Vic Fangio
- 57:17Speaker 9: is our defensive coordinator. I love Vic Fangio. Him and
- 57:21Speaker 9: my dad are type. They text a lot. It was
- 57:23Speaker 9: just strange, but I love victory it is. So we
- 57:26Speaker 9: break down at the end of practice. They bring all
- 57:29Speaker 9: the guys into a little like nucleus and they say,
- 57:32Speaker 9: break them down. Seventy five you got them, that's me.
- 57:34Speaker 9: I'm seventy five. So I go up there and I say,
- 57:36Speaker 9: you know, one, two, three bears, I'm not giving speeches
- 57:38Speaker 9: them one two, three bears and I walk away and
- 57:40Speaker 9: then I get grabbed on my arm. When I'm leaving
- 57:42Speaker 9: the huddle, it's Vic Fangio. He looks me right in
- 57:44Speaker 9: the eyes. He said, you didn't fucking deserve that.
- 57:49Speaker 13: Classic fangs I mean, And you know what, it's the
- 57:55Speaker 13: same guy that when a Keem Hicks would play sixty
- 57:58Speaker 13: plays and tap his helmet to get a breather at
- 58:01Speaker 13: three hundred and fifty pounds, Vic Fangio would remind him.
- 58:05Speaker 9: I remember hearing these conversations like my dad would. On
- 58:10Speaker 9: a Monday or Thursday game, my dad could be there,
- 58:12Speaker 9: so he'd be in the tunnel after the game, and
- 58:14Speaker 9: me and a Keem are super tight, and we'd walk
- 58:16Speaker 9: out of the locker room together, but we bash each
- 58:19Speaker 9: other's faces in all week. But on Sundays we were
- 58:22Speaker 9: going at somebody else and we're leaving the locker room
- 58:24Speaker 9: at the same time, and me and a Keen walk
- 58:27Speaker 9: out and Vic and my dad are talking. And Vic
- 58:29Speaker 9: loves my dad because he's old school. He never came out,
- 58:32Speaker 9: he played all he played all the positions, he two gaps,
- 58:35Speaker 9: he never bitched.
- 58:38Speaker 10: I remember he Vic goes, hey, King, come here, I
- 58:42Speaker 10: want you to talk to Howie for a second. And
- 58:44Speaker 10: he goes, Howie, how many times did you leave the
- 58:48Speaker 10: field when you played? And I remember my dad knew
- 58:50Speaker 10: what a kee or what Vic was trying to do
- 58:53Speaker 10: to a keem, and he was like, I'm I'm not
- 58:54Speaker 10: doing this here. And it just made me realize these
- 58:58Speaker 10: coaches are just trying to crawl up under your skin
- 59:00Speaker 10: and live inside of your brain and get inside of
- 59:02Speaker 10: your heart and make you feel less than. But that's
- 59:05Speaker 10: what it takes, okay, because who else is going to
- 59:08Speaker 10: motivate a six six, three hundred and fifty pound monster
- 59:12Speaker 10: savage to go do stuff because the rest of it's.
- 59:14Speaker 9: Easy for him. You need somebody to push you over
- 59:17Speaker 9: the edge. That was Vic Fangio for me, and Aaron
- 59:19Speaker 9: Cromer was the guy that really dug his nails into me.
- 59:24Speaker 4: All Right, we'll get you out of here in a second.
- 59:26Speaker 4: Chris Simms is a friend of the show.
- 59:27Speaker 1: He's always telling me that his dad, Phil Simms, who
- 59:30Speaker 1: won two Super Bowls, is always reminding him, Hey, I'm
- 59:33Speaker 1: the one who has the rings in the family. I
- 59:34Speaker 1: know all you guys have some rings, but Howie Long,
- 59:37Speaker 1: how often does it remind the kids, Hey, dad's.
- 59:40Speaker 4: A Hall of Fame fucking football player. I'm better than
- 59:42Speaker 4: both of you.
- 59:43Speaker 9: You know what, It's funny. It makes it easy. It
- 59:47Speaker 9: makes it easy because he wasn't just a guy that
