- 1:15Speaker 3: University of Illinois.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Slaton Man.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Good to see brother, how you doing good to see, man,
- 1:19Speaker 3: you're looking good, just like Tyson. We've been talking about that,
- 1:22Speaker 3: and I know all football teams work out, but that's
- 1:25Speaker 3: kind of been the vibe around town is that you
- 1:27Speaker 3: guys have been I mean, not even nothing, I mean
- 1:30Speaker 3: from basically spring until now working out.
- 1:32Speaker 5: For sure.
- 1:32Speaker 6: It's been the hardest summer we've had yet, and I've
- 1:35Speaker 6: loved every bit of it.
- 1:36Speaker 3: So so take us through. You know, we were talking
- 1:38Speaker 3: Tyson about it. You know, last year not the year
- 1:41Speaker 3: that you know, people wanted around here. It's not the
- 1:43Speaker 3: kind of year that people around here are used to.
- 1:45Speaker 3: There was a lot of you know, circumstances that you
- 1:47Speaker 3: guys couldn't control. There were some things you could control.
- 1:50Speaker 3: You guys ended up ending on a good note. Made
- 1:52Speaker 3: the run to South State again. I think that was
- 1:53Speaker 3: year number five, five straight times to South State. Kind
- 1:57Speaker 3: of take us through what maybe you guys learned about
- 1:58Speaker 3: last year that can help you this year.
- 2:00Speaker 6: Well, for starters, preparation, it all starts with that, and
- 2:04Speaker 6: I don't feel like we were getting prepared for Friday
- 2:06Speaker 6: Night until about week seven when Coach Clinton came in
- 2:10Speaker 6: and then we started actually getting reps on offense and
- 2:15Speaker 6: it showed on Friday nights. But that and respect. I mean,
- 2:22Speaker 6: there was a lot of things that we didn't have.
- 2:24Speaker 6: We were all over the place with small things to
- 2:26Speaker 6: big things, and it all adds up.
- 2:28Speaker 3: And now that you're a senior, you and Tyson amongst others,
- 2:32Speaker 3: but you two guys are the face of the program
- 2:34Speaker 3: where you go, your team will follow. What's it been
- 2:38Speaker 3: like to be, you know, kind of the front end
- 2:40Speaker 3: of this program now as a leader.
- 2:42Speaker 6: I mean it's been good kind of year to year,
- 2:44Speaker 6: just taking a little bit bigger of a step in leadership.
- 2:47Speaker 6: But like I've always led by example, I've kind of
- 2:50Speaker 6: had to open up a little bit more with like
- 2:53Speaker 6: vocally speaking, I don't really like to sit there and
- 2:56Speaker 6: you know, yap a lot, but I'll leave by example.
- 2:58Speaker 6: But this year I've had to, you know, kind of
- 3:01Speaker 6: talk a little bit more because there's not as many
- 3:03Speaker 6: people to say what needs to be said.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Sliding shack on your radio. He is so one of
- 3:07Speaker 3: the captains here along with Tyson Robbins from the Brandon
- 3:09Speaker 3: Bulldogs twenty twenty six edition of their team Offensively this year,
- 3:14Speaker 3: Tyson talked about it, said, you guys are going to
- 3:16Speaker 3: be more multiple. You guys are going to open it
- 3:18Speaker 3: up something obviously that you get you guys are used to,
- 3:21Speaker 3: you know, back prior to last year, but to get
- 3:23Speaker 3: back to opening up the football with the football this year.
- 3:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:26Speaker 6: Oh so last year we ran I mean pretty much
- 3:29Speaker 6: we ran a five minute offense the whole year. We're
- 3:32Speaker 6: getting down to we're running fast as we can. Our
- 3:35Speaker 6: playbooks probably three times the size of it was last year,
- 3:38Speaker 6: and just going week to week, narrowing it down and
- 3:40Speaker 6: being really good at what we gotta do that Friday.
- 3:44Speaker 3: You know, people talk about tempo and offense, and you
- 3:48Speaker 3: know that's that's kind of been the buzzword for a
- 3:50Speaker 3: number of years.
- 3:50Speaker 4: And when do we run tempo?
- 3:52Speaker 3: You know you'll hear left Lane hit the gas talk
- 3:54Speaker 3: a little bit about tempo and how.
- 3:56Speaker 4: You guys use it.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I mean, you don't go fast all the time, but
- 3:59Speaker 3: then there's times where you picking cheers.
- 4:01Speaker 6: I feel like tempo is definitely good, but at the
- 4:05Speaker 6: end of the day, it's a lot easier to slow
- 4:07Speaker 6: down than it is to speed up. But I mean
- 4:10Speaker 6: in the fourth quarter, when you got fourth and one,
- 4:12Speaker 6: you really can't run tempo at the end of day.
- 4:13Speaker 6: You got to be able to run the ball and
- 4:15Speaker 6: and do what you're good at when the one of
- 4:18Speaker 6: the defenses caught their breath.
- 4:21Speaker 3: A lot of buzz about the receivers that should be
- 4:23Speaker 3: throwing to this year, just kind of take us through
- 4:25Speaker 3: what that unit looks like this.
- 4:26Speaker 6: Year we have we got four good receivers. We got
- 4:30Speaker 6: two receivers that can roll. One of them is a
- 4:32Speaker 6: four to three. He's he can he can go get
- 4:35Speaker 6: the ball. He's six foot deep threat. Then you got
- 4:37Speaker 6: another one really shifty, really fast guy, Brandon Steel.
- 4:41Speaker 5: And then.
- 4:44Speaker 6: Right now we lost grad and he's at baseball. But
- 4:46Speaker 6: we're trying to really figure out who that X and
- 4:48Speaker 6: H will be. And we got some good we got
- 4:51Speaker 6: some good guys, but that Y and Z or lockdown
- 4:54Speaker 6: for sure.
- 4:55Speaker 3: You know when you look at you know this year
- 4:58Speaker 3: as far as camp, what else is I mean obvious?
- 5:00Speaker 3: See you guys that you're getting to the point you're
- 5:01Speaker 3: probably because football never ends, right, you go through spring,
- 5:05Speaker 3: then you go through seven on seven. You know, it's
- 5:07Speaker 3: much different than it used to be. It's like you
- 5:09Speaker 3: never really leave, right, So you're getting probably to the
- 5:11Speaker 3: to the point to where you're ready to see another jersey,
- 5:14Speaker 3: which you will next week in a preseason game, and
- 5:16Speaker 3: then the first game going to two plow. What's the
- 5:18Speaker 3: kind of left for you guys to clean up as
- 5:20Speaker 3: you get ready for you know, next week in the following.
- 5:22Speaker 6: We've had a great two weeks of fall COUMP, and
- 5:27Speaker 6: I mean, honestly, we just we just got to put
- 5:29Speaker 6: the small things back together, just figure out what we're
- 5:32Speaker 6: really really good at and keep her affecting our craft
- 5:36Speaker 6: and we'll be ready to roll.
- 5:38Speaker 3: You headed to Illinois to play your college football. I
- 5:41Speaker 3: was visiting with your dad. I told you about that
- 5:43Speaker 3: as you guys were going through that process.
- 5:45Speaker 4: What made Illinois right for you?
- 5:48Speaker 6: I had a really good relationship with the coaches when
- 5:51Speaker 6: I went up there. I was, you know, able to
- 5:53Speaker 6: see that I fit in around there. There's a lot
- 5:55Speaker 6: more country than I thought up there. The people were cool,
- 5:59Speaker 6: coach be a great guy. And at the end of
- 6:02Speaker 6: the day, I want to get she developed at the
- 6:08Speaker 6: highest level I can get. And I feel like I
- 6:10Speaker 6: can get developed there at a at a really high level.
- 6:12Speaker 3: And we've seen, you know, Mississippi guys go up there
- 6:15Speaker 3: recently and play and do well.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right.
- 6:17Speaker 3: So that's got to you know, help a little bit, knowing, Hey, look,
- 6:20Speaker 3: this isn't the first time somebody's done this, you know.
- 6:22Speaker 3: And it's just like with uh when gardnerment you came
- 6:25Speaker 3: through here and I visited with him and his father
- 6:27Speaker 3: about his decision to go to Washington State, and you know,
- 6:29Speaker 3: kind of one of the things was, hey, if you
- 6:31Speaker 3: don't mind going off like way off, and both you
- 6:34Speaker 3: guys are going, you know, basically close to the same place.
- 6:37Speaker 4: I mean, you know, uh, it told Gardner it.
- 6:39Speaker 3: You know, hey, look, if you didn't mind going, don't
- 6:40Speaker 3: mind going to the far west corner of the country,
- 6:42Speaker 3: then you're fine. Obviously that doesn't bother you guys, you know,
- 6:46Speaker 3: to go to go leave home and go do that
- 6:47Speaker 3: as well.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right. I mean, it ain't too far.
- 6:50Speaker 6: It's gonna be an eight hour drive for me, a
- 6:51Speaker 6: little farther for Tyson, but I'll be able to make
- 6:54Speaker 6: it home if I need to, and.
- 6:56Speaker 5: Farther enough from home where I can you know, kind
- 6:58Speaker 5: of get away.
- 7:00Speaker 3: With Slaton Shack. He is the quarterback here. Brandon Bulldogs
- 7:02Speaker 3: have a preseason game next week against Warren Central. Then
- 7:05Speaker 3: they'll open it up with two blow. If we had
- 7:07Speaker 3: one team on your schedule this year, you're looking to play.
- 7:09Speaker 3: If you can only play one, who's it gonna be like?
- 7:10Speaker 3: If you just pick one game.
- 7:18Speaker 5: They're all good. I'm ready to roll. But I mean
- 7:21Speaker 5: you can start off week one.
- 7:23Speaker 4: There you go, right?
- 7:24Speaker 3: I mean you got to think, I mean, played them twice,
- 7:27Speaker 3: have it done you? You know you guys have played
- 7:29Speaker 3: your best ball, I don't think against them. So that
- 7:31Speaker 3: will be a big matchup coming up on the blue
- 7:32Speaker 3: turf here in two weeks from tomorrow night.
- 7:34Speaker 5: That's gonna be great.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Well, look, hey man, I appreciate you as always, best
- 7:38Speaker 3: of luck this year, and look we'll talk soon. Thank
- 7:40Speaker 3: you Slaton Shack on your radio. As so we move
- 7:43Speaker 3: forward here. We also appreciate Tyson Robinson jumping in with us.
- 7:46Speaker 3: As always. We're gonna have Coach Clinton coming in here
- 7:50Speaker 3: not too much longer from now. They got a little
- 7:52Speaker 3: different scheduled today. They'll have a scrimmage tonight somewhere around
- 7:56Speaker 3: seven forty five, and then also they'll have I think
- 8:00Speaker 3: meet the dogs tonight. Appreciate you guys, taught to you soon.
- 8:04Speaker 3: And so they kind of got their schedule flipped here
- 8:07Speaker 3: is teams are starting to do the whole meet and greets,
- 8:09Speaker 3: you know, welcome to the kids, back to school meet,
- 8:12Speaker 3: the meet, the baseball teams, meet the basketball team. So
- 8:14Speaker 3: that's kind of where they are. And they'll have a
- 8:15Speaker 3: scrimmage tonight. All right, six one eighty five, three, seven, seven, six.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Let's go through Brett McMurphy's top twenty five. This is
- 8:22Speaker 3: his AP ballot for the top twenty five, and of
- 8:25Speaker 3: course the AP should drop, he said ninety six hours,
- 8:27Speaker 3: So we're looking somewhere around Sunday or Monday. Oregon number
- 8:31Speaker 3: one on his list as the number one team since
- 8:34Speaker 3: twenty twenty three, Oregon is thirty eight and oh against
- 8:37Speaker 3: teams that did not reach the national title game. I
- 8:39Speaker 3: want you to think about that. Oregon since twenty twenty
- 8:42Speaker 3: three is thirty eight and oh against teams that did
- 8:46Speaker 3: not reach the national championship. So you're talking about Indiana's
- 8:50Speaker 3: the team that beat them. Ohio State is the team
- 8:52Speaker 3: have beat them. Other than that, I mean, this team
- 8:56Speaker 3: has been rolling over the last number of years. Unfortunately,
- 8:58Speaker 3: they're h to five against game participants. You know, they
- 9:02Speaker 3: lost in twenty twenty three runner up Washington, they lost twice,
- 9:06Speaker 3: and I forget about that, you know, when I was
- 9:08Speaker 3: kind of going through my head. They lost in Indiana,
- 9:10Speaker 3: and they lost to Ohio's date, but they lost to
- 9:13Speaker 3: Washington twice. The year Michael Pennis and Washington along with
- 9:16Speaker 3: Kaylen Devoor went to the National championship game twice. They
- 9:19Speaker 3: lost to Washington that year. I think they finished ten
- 9:21Speaker 3: to two or eleven to two that year, and then
- 9:24Speaker 3: twice to Indiana. Last year, they lost in overtime in Eugene.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Then they lost in the playoffs, and then they lost
- 9:32Speaker 3: to Ohio State. Those thirty eight wins are the nation's
- 9:35Speaker 3: most in the past three years, but they only have
- 9:39Speaker 3: the twenty twenty four Big Ten title to show for it.
- 9:41Speaker 3: This year, the Ducks, you know, have the scar tissue,
- 9:44Speaker 3: quote and talent to finally break through the program, through
- 9:47Speaker 3: the program's ceiling, so to speak.
- 9:49Speaker 4: For the first national championship.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Dante Worreon, a deep defensive front along with some great
- 9:54Speaker 3: skill position players put Oregon at number one.
- 9:56Speaker 4: For Brett McMurphy Ohio State number two.
- 9:59Speaker 3: And again, you know, we've talked at length about this
- 10:01Speaker 3: team with Jillian saying at quarterback Jeremiah Smith at wide receiver,
- 10:05Speaker 3: arguably college football's best player regardless of position, new offensive coordinator,
- 10:10Speaker 3: and Arthur Smith. So this team, you know, you'll get
- 10:13Speaker 3: to see their all checked in Week one against Texas,
- 10:16Speaker 3: and of course, conversely, Texas is all checked against Ohio
- 10:19Speaker 3: State Number three. For Brett McMurphy, he's got Georgia. In
- 10:23Speaker 3: the past five years, Georgia has been the nation's best program,
- 10:26Speaker 3: winning consecutive national titles in twenty one and twenty two,
- 10:29Speaker 3: three SEC championships in the past three years. Georgia hasn't
- 10:33Speaker 3: exactly been quote dog meat, as McMurphy puts it, but
- 10:37Speaker 3: the Bulldogs have slipped just a little bit, ever so
- 10:40Speaker 3: slightly their two SEC title games appearances in twenty four
- 10:43Speaker 3: and twenty five, they went oh to two in the
- 10:44Speaker 3: College Football Playoff.
- 10:46Speaker 4: So they're looking to, you know, really kind of.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Recap that Georgia magic number four, Notre Dame and number five.
- 10:54Speaker 3: This is interesting to me for Brett McMurphy, and we'll
- 10:56Speaker 3: talk about that we come back. He's got a team
- 10:58Speaker 3: I haven't seen rank this high. It is one of
- 11:00Speaker 3: the teams in the top fifteen. You keep seeing flow.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I'm a little interested in this, We'll get to that
- 11:06Speaker 3: and more. We're brought to you by Live Oaks gottaliveaksgc
