- 0:05Speaker 1: Monday.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Monday so good to me Monday morning it was all I hope it would be.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Hey, welcome back in the North Florida Sports Network.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Happy Monday, it's a football Monday.
- 0:37Speaker 1: We're gonna react to the games from this weekend, including FSU's close call against BC.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Talk about Florida's game against Tennessee, amu with the home opener against West Florida.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Miami took care of business against Bethune.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Alabama was in Florida, struggling, struggling struggling Saturday yeah, get, get, and just glad you got out of dodge with the wind.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Colorado struggle with Colorado State that was more.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I don't know what Jay Norvell was thinking yeah, well some questionable decisions there at the end, but yeah emotional game man it is.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Let's start in Boston weather, what you can't say.
- 1:54Speaker 1: The weather now, whether than doing it.
- 1:57Speaker 2: No, there's no excuse.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Played like total yards 457 for BC, 340 for Florida State 457 yeah, passing yards 305 for BC, 212 for Florida State, rushing yards 152 for BC, 128 for FSU and 6.1 yards per play to 5.9 6.1 yards per play yeah, and you won yeah, wow, because they had 18 penalties for 131 yards.
- 2:35Speaker 1: But every other statistical category they beat you.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Boston College right, and they did so in the span of like maybe a quarter and a half yeah, because it was 31 to 10 and it looked like cruise control.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yep, I yeah.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it was ugly man, it was ugly safety position.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Safety position is hurt by dent, yet kept Kevin Knowles you know it was an experiment moving him back there.
- 3:09Speaker 2: If that's what he's gonna give you, then it's gonna be a problem the rest of the year whenever he's on the field.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I gave the young guy, I think, hussie.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I don't think we saw Hussie, maybe he was.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You know, there was a rumor that some guys were sick.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Maybe he was one of them, I don't know.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Man, none of the safety really did a much of anything.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Secondary was so.
- 3:34Speaker 2: So at times the linebackers were just awful mmm, there's a good game.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I had a nice interception there, though yeah, by DJ Lundy was there, you know he was right place, right time and what it was is, it was caused by pressure right the rare time that we brought pressure against an inexperienced QB.
- 3:54Speaker 2: What was it?
- 3:55Speaker 1: start number two for him yeah it, and just good thing you got to win.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I guess what hopefully fsu can learn from it.
- 4:06Speaker 1: But man, it's got to be a wake-up call yeah, there's.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I mean, if you you got to treat it like a loss man right in terms of when you go in there and you watch the film like there's nothing that you can be proud of.
- 4:18Speaker 2: On that I know, yeah, they made some great plays.
- 4:22Speaker 2: There was some success there and they were.
- 4:24Speaker 2: They looked really good and like they were, but who cares?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Right you know, it's about how you finish.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and they, they didn't finish no, basically basically, boston College just made enough mistakes.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yeah, for us to eat out of there.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Man 18 penalty 18 penalties just kept shooting themselves.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I have to go half way, going for two to yeah, that was.
- 4:46Speaker 1: That was what was he thinking.
- 4:47Speaker 2: It was dumb.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Thank you, yes.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that that ultimately it was the difference in the game.
- 4:52Speaker 2: You know when you're down nine.
- 4:54Speaker 1: After you score and you, on a time left, you go for one, so you can be down one possession.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I mean what the hell is going on, I mean thank goodness he did that.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Thank goodness that we kept them From converting.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I mean, but it, yeah, it was a boneheaded decision right.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Well, that's what can happen when you, when you take your foot off the gas, when you give up that edge, that the way you're playing, and you kind of think that you can coast.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Yeah well, you take a possession for granted, mm-hmm.
- 5:23Speaker 2: You get up to midfield and you think all right, you know we're coasting, that's just, that's get cute, let's try to play with something here.
- 5:29Speaker 2: You know what your concentration, your focus lacks.
- 5:33Speaker 2: But all of a sudden now you're gonna have some bad bounces happen, you know right.
- 5:38Speaker 2: They drive down at score, get a squib kick recovery.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Uh-oh, it's just it.
- 5:44Speaker 2: You know, if they don't learn from that that, you have to just continue to try and dominate, regardless of how good you think you're doing right.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I just I don't, I don't know it was the first game.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It was on the road, first game during the day.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Um, both the previous games were a prime time.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Almost wish this Clemson game was in prime time, but it will be on at noon.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Everybody seems to think that's an advantage.
- 6:08Speaker 1: It does not matter.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't.
- 6:10Speaker 2: I don't think it really matters anymore.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Going into it, I expected.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I could argue that it's better to be in prime time, because the players will be more focused and yeah, yeah, you know, the thought about it being at noon is that it's less time for me to sit around and think about, yeah, but it's also.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Whatever man I just I think it's gonna be ugly Watching both teams.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Now you know Clemson's beat the crap out of a couple, a couple Nobodies.
- 6:40Speaker 1: I mean yeah, but Charleston Southern and FAU.
- 6:43Speaker 2: FAU, yeah, and we, you know, we beat LSU and ran it up on Southern Miss.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Who's not, who's not terrible, right, you know, like they they stuck with Tulane and they well, that's what we'd like to see is the depth.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Maybe got in in that game and played a little hung, hungry and it just seemed that that they weren't, they weren't answering the intensity brought by Boston College not, not even close and they got outplayed.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Yeah, they did that.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I Early in the game you could tell that in the trenches we were just getting pushed around.
- 7:17Speaker 2: There was some, you know, verse shined a couple times, peyton made a couple plays.
- 7:24Speaker 2: You know, at times we were stout in the middle, but at other times, man, that that that QB just ran right up the gut on us and my thing is is like, dude, if you're, if you're only gonna bring four and drop all those guys back, and even when they had a spy on them they couldn't get him.
- 7:40Speaker 2: You know the linebackers were, you know, bad angles out of spot, out of position missing tackles.
- 7:49Speaker 1: He had a problem with the snap too.
- 7:51Speaker 1: You could tell yeah, first, first half.
- 7:53Speaker 2: He was doing some things, you know like I think he would say something after they broke the huddle really early and it would throw him off.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Right, you know they got that corrected.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Those, those preset fall starts, that were just weird.
- 8:07Speaker 2: They had like three of them at crucial times.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I guess the thing like BC had a lot of penalties and things that killed their drives, killed their momentum.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Other times they scored touchdowns on those those just 18 penalties, we told you for 131 yards, but in every other, yeah, bc dominated the game and it was kind of Other than that stretch where I think FSU came in after, you know, they tied it up, they took the lead and got ahead and they they thought it was over and yeah, yeah, when they were dialed in and focused and you know, playing to the level that they were capable of it, they moved through BC's defense, you know, like a hot knife man through butter.
- 8:56Speaker 2: They had new problems.
- 8:57Speaker 2: They made defensive stops, it's just.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Travis went down.
- 9:02Speaker 1: He came back.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I'm sure he's going to be okay to go, but I think you have to have him in the running game.
- 9:10Speaker 1: That's his.
- 9:11Speaker 1: That's what makes his efficiency work in the passing game.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Yeah, the run threat for him in this game is going to.
- 9:19Speaker 1: You got to have so when you see, yeah, he's going to need to be healthy, he's going to need to get ready to go.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I think going through the rest of the season, you know, relying on him to be just a drop back pass, or even rolling the pocket and having him throw it 35 times a game, is not going to be the answer.
- 9:33Speaker 2: It just.
- 9:36Speaker 1: It's not who he is as a player.
- 9:37Speaker 2: You have to use his strengths you know he's developed a lot and he has a really good quarterback, but there's still some throws that he's not 100% accurate on.
- 9:45Speaker 1: But like what kind of game changer he can be.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:49Speaker 1: And what you have to keep in people's back of your mind.
- 9:52Speaker 1: It's only going to help open the field for your passing game and hopefully, you know, hopefully he's okay, because you also don't want to keep pulling that you know, because he could he's accept.
- 10:03Speaker 1: You know he could get hurt.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the risk you take.
- 10:07Speaker 2: You got to this is.
- 10:09Speaker 2: But that's kind of all hands on deck.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Next week we're going to be talking about that.
- 10:14Speaker 1: One FSU's probably.
- 10:15Speaker 1: They started the season as the underdogs are now.
- 10:18Speaker 1: They were three point favorite.
- 10:20Speaker 1: It's gone down to like two.
- 10:21Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 10:23Speaker 1: We'll talk about that game more later in the week.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I bet it's just a push by the time it kicks off.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Well, yeah, it's Clemson still on rank, but it's going to be a battle.
- 10:33Speaker 1: They'll be.
- 10:35Speaker 1: It's their season.
- 10:36Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Hopefully, florida State will wear gold helmets this time.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I didn't really like the combination there.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Yeah, how about?
- 10:43Speaker 1: Just?
- 10:43Speaker 1: I don't mind the white pants.
- 10:45Speaker 2: No, I don't mind the white pants.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I mean, if you want to wear, you know, white pants with white jerseys and gold helmets, go ahead man.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, I'm tired of the white helmet.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 1: What are you going to do?
- 10:57Speaker 1: At least do it, just only only when you're wearing all white.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Well, there was.
- 11:02Speaker 1: There was a lot of other games, a lot of their action this weekend Florida, like I called it.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you did.
- 11:09Speaker 1: The upset was brewing Well and you know it was their home opener.
- 11:14Speaker 2: They just pushed Tennessee around.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Well, not the home over at SEC home opener.
- 11:17Speaker 1: They were ready.
- 11:18Speaker 2: It was a huge game for Nate.
- 11:19Speaker 2: You're probably the biggest game he's, he's had he needed that to take some pressure off, but they just man, they pushed Tennessee around.
- 11:27Speaker 2: It wasn't really.
- 11:29Speaker 2: First of all I'll say this Joe Milton is not good.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I know he has a great arm.
- 11:35Speaker 2: He could throw it like 140 yards.
- 11:37Speaker 2: He's not really that much of a dual threat QB.
- 11:42Speaker 2: He can't throw on the run.
- 11:43Speaker 2: He's just not a great quarterback man Make some really dumb decisions.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:48Speaker 2: That being said, the the man, the run game for Florida.
- 11:52Speaker 2: That's kind of what I was.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and Merch was, merch was, you know they went back to that, though they established that.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yeah, Etn is going to be a problem.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I think he's the best back that they have on a.
- 12:04Speaker 2: You know him and Johnson are a great one to punch.
- 12:07Speaker 2: But yeah, they look, they look good.
- 12:09Speaker 2: That team, that, that performance right there, that's a team that can win seven in a game.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Surprise somebody in the in the SEC.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, like that, that, that Georgia game they play like that against Georgia, it's going to be really, really interesting.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Georgia's Georgia struggled.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they did they you know they.
- 12:28Speaker 2: There's not a ton of explosiveness on that offense.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Brock Bowers is is ridiculous at the tight end position, but you know they're.
- 12:37Speaker 2: They're Carson Beck, their new QB.
- 12:39Speaker 2: He had his struggles.
- 12:40Speaker 1: And they lost Todd Monkin too.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah and it's, it's kind of I don't know, I mean.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I think in the quarterback that won back to back national championships.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot that they lost off of that team.
- 12:50Speaker 1: They lost.
- 12:50Speaker 2: You know they got some problems at running back with some injuries.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Defense still looks really good, although you know South Carolina's best player got injured after he scored a touchdown early in the game, so that you kind of wonder what it would have been.
- 13:04Speaker 2: But yeah, man it another one of the top teams that kind of struggled and they were at home.
- 13:08Speaker 1: they were at home Like this was a look ahead week for a lot.
- 13:11Speaker 1: There's a lot of big games next week all around the country, but for for the for, if you're a Florida fan, you feel just a lot better.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you do.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I mean for Tennessee it's just kind of the same old, same old.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, they, they, I don't.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I don't remember Tennessee having a good defense the last 15 years.
- 13:32Speaker 2: You know, it's been so long since I've seen Tennessee be able to tackle and they couldn't man, they just got blown off the ball, missed tackles and Florida did what they did, man, they just dominated.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Yeah, they did.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Game day was in Colorado, Colorado State, which-.
- 13:50Speaker 2: That game was insane.
- 13:51Speaker 1: That game was insane.
- 13:53Speaker 2: You know the pregame altercation.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:58Speaker 2: And then you know, man, shredor Sanders is really good.
- 14:02Speaker 1: He is.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Shiloh is underrated too.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Like those are arguably the best two players on the team are Dion's sons.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Travis Hunter was hit in the ribs late and now he's gonna be out.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a cheap shot.
- 14:16Speaker 2: It was Probably should have worn it in ejection.
- 14:19Speaker 2: You know he led with the shoulder, so I get it, but I mean it was well after the play.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Probably should have gotten tossed.
- 14:25Speaker 2: That being said, there's there's things like that, that kid man.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, he still, he still got that one, he got him right in his vulnerable spot.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't want to see that.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Nah and it you know it's not something you'd like seeing in part of the game, but I mean, it's not something that doesn't happen every Saturday in a lot of different games.
- 14:45Speaker 1: And double overtime, though they came out with a win.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you know in a game that they everyone thought they were going to blow Colorado State out.
- 14:55Speaker 2: They did, man, and you know, colorado State kind of came in there and just I don't know if they got in their head, but they Well it just goes to show you it's their college kids.
- 15:06Speaker 1: It's still a game, you have to bring it.
- 15:08Speaker 1: You could lose any Saturday.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Really, I mean.
- 15:13Speaker 2: For the first real time they had.
- 15:15Speaker 2: They had a lot of trouble protecting Shador Sanders.
- 15:18Speaker 2: You know, like when they do you saw, you saw what he can do.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Man, they still got a lot of weapons.
- 15:24Speaker 2: It's a big one for them next week.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yep, they're playing at Oregon yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 2: So they're probably looking ahead as well.
- 15:31Speaker 2: But it man, that three, and oh hey, it's still a win.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Yep, the Rattlers got in the kept the streak alive at Bragg.
- 15:42Speaker 1: It's a slow start.
- 15:43Speaker 1: They were able to win 31-10 over West Florida.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I'm going to say it like that their game against South Florida last week Kind of understand the turnover situation after watching South Florida's defense against Alabama on Saturday.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Well, I mean that kind of you can see the fan use potential that they it was kind of like they kicked themselves in the foot and lost that game.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, famuse offense.
- 16:14Speaker 1: They were physically in that game.
- 16:16Speaker 1: If not, they hung with the offensive line for fam.
- 16:19Speaker 2: You, against South Florida's defensive front looked world better than Alabama's.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I know that.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Think about that.
- 16:26Speaker 1: And that's I know.
- 16:27Speaker 1: There are some coaches on Alabama that were.
- 16:30Speaker 1: You know, usually wouldn't look at a tape of oh no, yeah, they were like whoa, they're fam you, we're looking at that tape.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Why wouldn't they?
- 16:38Speaker 2: They had a cleaner game.
- 16:39Speaker 1: They, they, they win that game.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but you, you see a little sluggish after after that game.
- 16:46Speaker 1: It's a.
- 16:46Speaker 1: It's a big loss, and especially when you have, when you have when you know you could have won it.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and you are going up against an FBS program Right, but it's going to take a turn.
- 16:55Speaker 1: They turned things around and straightened it out, yeah.
- 16:58Speaker 2: They're good.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I mean went out man.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 17:02Speaker 1: They will, they will.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Um, we'll, uh, we'll keep an eye on them.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Uh, miami took care of business.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Yeah, they'll, they'll, we'll see.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 2: They'll steamroll temple this week.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and they're they're.
- 17:14Speaker 2: You know they're sitting where they want to be.
- 17:16Speaker 2: They got that big early, winning his day on him.
- 17:18Speaker 2: And it's it's all green right now.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Acc is wide open man.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it really is.
- 17:23Speaker 1: It really is Duke's Duke.
- 17:27Speaker 1: One again against Northwestern Duke.
- 17:29Speaker 2: he's Duke he's keep rolling off.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Wins man Like I don't who's going to get them?
- 17:35Speaker 1: Well, all right, so you were uh in Tampa.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we went down went down to watch the bucks and the box are two and oh bucks are two and oh, mike Evans looked really good got away with a blatant pass interference for a huge game, but it you know.
- 17:52Speaker 2: So what mean.
- 17:53Speaker 2: But he did, he looked really good, really really good.
- 17:56Speaker 2: And Baker Mayfield, all five foot nine of them, dude, he's got that rifle can he does?
- 18:00Speaker 2: He looks so funny.
- 18:01Speaker 2: He looks like a little kid running around there with grown men, but he unleashes that, that laser got a big arm, yeah, and.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Justin Fields is the exact opposite.
- 18:11Speaker 1: He's just not physically.
- 18:13Speaker 2: He looks the part and he drops back and you see the guy wide open and he just doesn't throw it Right.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I don't know if he's afraid or if he thinks other guys are gonna be open.
- 18:22Speaker 2: He forgets this is the NFL like, but it's just it.
- 18:25Speaker 2: It's obvious, man, yeah.
- 18:27Speaker 2: So I don't know, I don't know, I don't, I don't, I don't see how they move forward with him as their quarterback next year.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Wow, yeah, I mean I.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I mean you got to see some kind of improvements and it's not like he didn't have all season last year.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Well, there's some visible frustration, right?
- 18:53Speaker 2: Coaches, players, dj, more what I'm having any of it.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll keep cashing my game checks, but y'all expect me to do something maybe they should have a Line is horrible.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Yeah, you can go out there and get Jay booty man, so he's available Sitting out there on New Orleans.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yeah, he's coming in tonight, though.
- 19:15Speaker 1: That's what, oh yeah, that's right in the second quarter.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I apologize to Derek Carr and his family, but I like Derek, you're seasons over tonight, buddy.
- 19:25Speaker 1: No, yeah, torn ligament in the oh no, I know bros, but you'll be back next year.
- 19:30Speaker 2: man, all right, or maybe ready for playoff time?
- 19:34Speaker 2: Grow the hair back out dolphins held on.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Look like Harry from home.
- 19:40Speaker 1: That was a crazy game at the end of lateral to a no right.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Yeah too, it's never lost to a Bella check.
- 19:48Speaker 2: I'm telling you, man, I got you guys in the Super Bowl this year, so do I.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I Finns eagles.
