- 0:35Speaker 3: all right, and we're gonna stand up, and then it's
- 0:37Speaker 3: gonna take two more shots to knock us down, all right.
- 0:40Speaker 3: And on the way up, we're gonna take your other
- 0:41Speaker 3: kneecap and we're gonna get up, and then it's gonna
- 0:44Speaker 3: take three shots to get us down. And when we do,
- 0:46Speaker 3: we're gonna take another hunk out of you. Before before long,

- 0:52Speaker 4: You're damn right we are. We are the Out of

- 0:57Speaker 5: The Zone brought to you by the Fry soft Shell
- 1:00Speaker 5: Crab Appetizer and or entree at Kessler Prime and the Renaissance.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Pair it with the twelve ounce file at medium rare
- 1:08Speaker 5: and either a Tito's Espresso Martini which sounds delicious, or
- 1:13Speaker 5: an Elijah Craig Manhattan Kesselerprime dot Com to make a
- 1:17Speaker 5: reservation bow Bound, Straight Funk with you as we march
- 1:22Speaker 5: into the twenty twenty six football season. And it just
- 1:26Speaker 5: depends on where your focus is high school, college, NFL
- 1:31Speaker 5: or for some of you, you love it all, which
- 1:34Speaker 5: is great. I can't wait for Friday Night lights, I
- 1:36Speaker 5: can't wait for Saturday, and I can't wait for the
- 1:38Speaker 5: red Zone on Sunday? Is there anything better than background
- 1:42Speaker 5: music on a Sunday after you've watched college football all
- 1:45Speaker 5: day on Saturday? Than having the red Zone on and
- 1:49Speaker 5: you get see Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert and Dak
- 1:55Speaker 5: and Josh Allen and Mahomes and Dart and Caleb Williams.
- 1:59Speaker 5: It's just it's awesome. Who knew that we would have
- 2:02Speaker 5: that years ago? In nineteen eighty five. That would have
- 2:05Speaker 5: made our brain explode if someone would have said, Hey,
- 2:09Speaker 5: you're gonna have the red zone. You're gonna get to
- 2:12Speaker 5: watch all these games when teams cross the fifty, but
- 2:16Speaker 5: definitely when they're inside the thirty and the twenty yard line.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Okay, I'm in.
- 2:20Speaker 5: I'm down with that and your picture and your TV
- 2:24Speaker 5: and your broadcast is going to look amazing. I mean,
- 2:26Speaker 5: y'all remember watching the Saints games in nineteen eighty five.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Not only was the team garbage, but it looked terrible.
- 2:33Speaker 5: What was going on? I mean, it didn't even look
- 2:34Speaker 5: good in two thousand and one. And then all of
- 2:37Speaker 5: a sudden things started to happen. Right, technology TVs go
- 2:41Speaker 5: down and we get more access to games, and then
- 2:45Speaker 5: eventually we get the red zone. It's a beautiful thing.
- 2:49Speaker 5: And of course you get your Mississippi State. I mean
- 2:52Speaker 5: that's good and bad for MSU, but you get yours.
- 2:55Speaker 5: You get all your MSU and Ole Miss football games
- 2:58Speaker 5: on TV. You guys, just five minutes ago, we didn't
- 3:01Speaker 5: have that. I mean, just five minutes ago you had
- 3:03Speaker 5: your team was on like three or four times a year.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Now every single baseball game is on. Like when you
- 3:10Speaker 5: play Roast Beef Tech in Texas in early March and
- 3:16Speaker 5: Ole Miss or Mississippi State are playing them, you get
- 3:19Speaker 5: to watch.
- 3:19Speaker 4: It is that wild? I know this, it's good for
- 3:22Speaker 4: this show.
- 3:23Speaker 5: Every single SEC basketball game is on, every single one.
- 3:30Speaker 4: You get it. Just a minute. When Rick Stansbury was winning,
- 3:37Speaker 4: you had to be there, and that wasn't that long ago.
- 3:41Speaker 4: And all Rick did was win, and he won with
- 3:44Speaker 4: no money.
- 3:44Speaker 5: You know, we talked about Ole Miss and Mississippi state
- 3:46Speaker 5: coaches who won with no money. You know, Ron Polk
- 3:48Speaker 5: won with no money, and and Brewer was able to
- 3:53Speaker 5: get the fire going to a pretty good level with
- 3:57Speaker 5: no money. Share all one with no money. Tuberville won
- 4:00Speaker 5: with no money. Richard Williams won with no money. Stansbury
- 4:03Speaker 5: no money. It's pretty pretty crazy.
- 4:07Speaker 1: You know.
- 4:07Speaker 5: Pete Golding and Jeff Levy walk in this morning. They
- 4:09Speaker 5: got everything they need. It is the taj Mahal, Ritz
- 4:13Speaker 5: Carlton everything you need. I mean, I was in there
- 4:16Speaker 5: last year, and I mean the food bars and everything
- 4:19Speaker 5: in the facility. What I mean they were having steak
- 4:25Speaker 5: and lobster. Asked John Bond what he had? A cold
- 4:29Speaker 5: turkey sandwich craft cheese.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean Bond's like, well.
- 4:35Speaker 5: We stacked, right, We stacked fourteen pieces of white bread
- 4:40Speaker 5: with some blowney salami and turkey and cheese, and we
- 4:47Speaker 5: ate until you know, Kenthle and tyrone keys and I
- 4:52Speaker 5: ate until we were full. Asked Reggie Collier what they
- 4:55Speaker 5: had to eat at Southern Miss in nineteen eighty one.
- 4:58Speaker 5: They didn't have any money. State didn't have any money.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Ole miss didn't have any money today, Golding and Levy
- 5:04Speaker 5: walk in. I mean, there's actually millions of millions and
- 5:08Speaker 5: millions of dollars invested around them. All the furniture's nice,
- 5:12Speaker 5: the fixtures are nice, the food bars are nice, the
- 5:15Speaker 5: weights are brand new. Everybody's got thirty five different shirts,
- 5:21Speaker 5: thirty five different pairs of shoes, isn't it. It's absolutely
- 5:27Speaker 5: remarkable that our two athletic departments combined are four hundred
- 5:31Speaker 5: million dollars in revenue. That doesn't count all the money
- 5:36Speaker 5: that's going to get spent in Oxford and start Bull
- 5:39Speaker 5: from September one to Thanksgiving, which will be a couple
- 5:44Speaker 5: hundred million dollars a pot. Ole miss will have more
- 5:47Speaker 5: because they've been winning. But there's still going to be
- 5:51Speaker 5: a ton of people and money in Startboro, Mississippi rolling
- 5:55Speaker 5: through throughout the year. Because even when you're in Missippi,
- 5:59Speaker 5: State may be good. I mean, there's no reason why
- 6:02Speaker 5: they can't win six or that. I don't think that's
- 6:04Speaker 5: a herculean task at all, winning six or seven games
- 6:06Speaker 5: this year, considering this is the most watered down the
- 6:09Speaker 5: league has been in forever, and ever and ever and
- 6:12Speaker 5: your Vanderbilt Commodore's the worst recruiter in the Southeastern Conference,
- 6:16Speaker 5: went ten and two last year and could have gone
- 6:19Speaker 5: eleven in one.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Y'all remember that game.
- 6:24Speaker 5: All right, bo bound straight funks, straight funks. Tea's in
- 6:27Speaker 5: the week is going to be brought to you by
- 6:30Speaker 5: the Rogue Men's store. So Luke and the Rogue have
- 6:34Speaker 5: all the old miss and Mississippi State Peter Malar gear
- 6:38Speaker 5: right now. And he did several different logos and several
- 6:45Speaker 5: different colors of golf shirts and Peter Malar thin pullovers
- 6:51Speaker 5: and hoodies.
- 6:53Speaker 4: And they look great, okay.
- 6:56Speaker 5: I mean from powder blue to maroon, to red to
- 7:01Speaker 5: white to this to blue.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Da da Da da da.
- 7:06Speaker 5: And he's got the walking bully, you know, the old
- 7:09Speaker 5: miss script, the State script, the sip. He's got the interlocking,
- 7:15Speaker 5: which a lot of you have like really loved from
- 7:18Speaker 5: the I go back to the Jackie Cheryl days.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Maybe, But.
- 7:24Speaker 5: I will say in nineteen eighty six when Don Smith
- 7:28Speaker 5: went to Knoxville, Tennessee, I was there with my good
- 7:31Speaker 5: friend Stephen Clay. This was very rare with any team
- 7:36Speaker 5: but Mississippi State old. I don't know what happened that
- 7:39Speaker 5: year for that day, but those uniforms were electric. But anyway,
- 7:47Speaker 5: Luke has the interlocking m SU at the Rogueman's store
- 7:53Speaker 5: right now Mississippi State, Old miss and it's Peter Millar.
- 7:58Speaker 5: It's great looking and it's gonna last. Yeah, I mean,
- 8:02Speaker 5: and I'm wearing a Peter Malar pullover from the Rogue.
- 8:05Speaker 5: I just thought about that. We've got our out of
- 8:08Speaker 5: Bounds Mike logo, which I think is electric, and the
- 8:13Speaker 5: Whiskey sixty one logo. You can find the out of
- 8:15Speaker 5: Bounds hats and Whiskey sixty one hats on Whiskey sixty
- 8:19Speaker 5: one dot com. I really like our Patriot line that
- 8:22Speaker 5: we did, and that lady was super talented. But the
- 8:26Speaker 5: Patriot line that was created, it's red, white and blue theme,
- 8:32Speaker 5: is really good looking. You can find out of Bounds
- 8:33Speaker 5: and Whiskey sixty one hats on Whiskey sixty one dot com.
- 8:36Speaker 5: All right, the show is brought to you by stell
- 8:39Speaker 5: Ar Twine Wings at Martin's and Livingston. Oh that's a
- 8:43Speaker 5: home run Martin's and Livingston Blue plates. They just speaking
- 8:47Speaker 5: of game Day, we talked about how Luke has your
- 8:49Speaker 5: game Day ole miss and Mississippi State. Peter malar Gear
- 8:52Speaker 5: at the Rogue. Joseph just expanded Martin's and Livingston seven
- 8:58Speaker 5: one hundred inch TVs seven one hundred inch TVs for
- 9:03Speaker 5: game day, College and NFL. Martin's and Livingston, Get the gumbo,
- 9:08Speaker 5: get the wings, and get a stell Artoy.
- 9:11Speaker 4: We'll be back in just a second. Who do we
- 9:14Speaker 4: have next?
- 9:14Speaker 5: Scott gral the dean of the College of Business on
- 9:19Speaker 5: the campus of Mississippi State University. He's taken his power
- 9:22Speaker 5: for competitive temperament where he paid played at Iowa State,
- 9:28Speaker 5: and he has injected that into the College of Business
- 9:30Speaker 5: at Mississippi State University Business dot m S State dot edu.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Times All right, good morning, Welcome into the Out of
- 9:51Speaker 5: Bounds Show ESPN one oh five nine. The Zone Show
- 9:55Speaker 5: is brought to you the Mississippi State University College of Business.
- 9:59Speaker 5: Visit the site today, Business dot MS State dot edu.
- 10:04Speaker 5: The online NBA program last year, or maybe it was
- 10:07Speaker 5: the year before, number one in the country best value
- 10:11Speaker 5: NBA program name. I mean, that's a hell of an award.
- 10:13Speaker 5: Business dot MS State dot edu. We've got Dean Scott Graw,
- 10:18Speaker 5: who's dean of the College of Business on the campus
- 10:20Speaker 5: of Mississippi State University, joining us on ESPN one oh
- 10:24Speaker 5: five nine to the zone. And uh, usually Scott is
- 10:28Speaker 5: the star of the show when he's on, But now
- 10:31Speaker 5: his nephew has decided to kind of throw a trump
- 10:35Speaker 5: card out an ace here because Nolan Gral has signed
- 10:41Speaker 5: with Brian O'Connor to play baseball. And Scott Gral, who
- 10:45Speaker 5: is sitting next to me in the studio, played baseball
- 10:49Speaker 5: at Iowa State and now his nephew will play baseball
- 10:53Speaker 5: at Mississippi State. How cool is that? First of all,
- 10:56Speaker 5: good morning, good morning, thanks for having me. Happy uh,
- 11:00Speaker 5: happy summer to you and your crew. What like, walk
- 11:06Speaker 5: me through this. Your your nephew is is now on
- 11:09Speaker 5: the Mississippi State baseball team. You were recruited by Ron Polk.
- 11:14Speaker 5: You wanted to stay close to home, which makes sense.
- 11:16Speaker 5: You played at Iowa State, which is cool. You've you've
- 11:19Speaker 5: taken that competitive drive and temperament to the College of
- 11:22Speaker 5: Business in a good way.
- 11:24Speaker 4: What did it? What did it mean to you? And
- 11:26Speaker 4: and walked me through who Nolan Gral is?
- 11:30Speaker 3: Uh?
- 11:30Speaker 4: So, Nolan is my nephew.
- 11:32Speaker 6: So he is my brother's son and it's my brother
- 11:36Speaker 6: played played baseball Wartburg College. We're a baseball family. We
- 11:41Speaker 6: all love and almost live and breathe baseball a lot.
- 11:44Speaker 6: But Nolan had a fantastic high school career, has been
- 11:48Speaker 6: playing at South Dakota State for the last couple of years,
- 11:51Speaker 6: and honestly, this has been a whirlwind because we had
- 11:54Speaker 6: a great season.
- 11:55Speaker 4: And again, who knows.
- 11:57Speaker 6: What's going through his head, But I have got no
- 12:00Speaker 6: clue that he's planning to enter the transfer portal or
- 12:02Speaker 6: anything else like that. He's just loving playing ball and
- 12:06Speaker 6: having a successful season in South Dakota State. And then
- 12:08Speaker 6: I get a text from my brother, Hey, we're coming
- 12:11Speaker 6: down to check things out, and and it was and
- 12:15Speaker 6: he was in and out in you know, a heartbeat.
- 12:19Speaker 6: And I get a text before they leave town. Nolan's
- 12:22Speaker 6: a bulldog, and we're we're over the moon, We're excited.
- 12:25Speaker 6: So it's I'm still trying to process the whole thing.
- 12:29Speaker 6: So it happened fast, very fast, very fast.
- 12:32Speaker 5: And like you didn't know for weeks, right, I mean,
- 12:35Speaker 5: this wasn't something where you knew for weeks this could happen.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Oh no, he he finished. So South Daosta State, they
- 12:41Speaker 6: had a they had a great run. At the end
- 12:43Speaker 6: of the season, they went to the regionals. They were
- 12:45Speaker 6: in that regional with Nebraska, Arizona State, and Old Miss Right,
- 12:50Speaker 6: so they had a gauntlet to get through. Obviously he
- 12:52Speaker 6: didn't get through it, but I just knew that they
- 12:55Speaker 6: were finishing up the regionals.
- 12:56Speaker 4: He was he was heading up to Alaska to play
- 12:58Speaker 4: summer ball.
- 12:59Speaker 6: And next thing I know, he's he's on a plane
- 13:02Speaker 6: from Alaska to Starkville, Mississippi, and meeting with the coaching
- 13:06Speaker 6: staff and everything else. And even while they were here,
- 13:10Speaker 6: you know, anytime families in town, you're gonna get together,
- 13:13Speaker 6: you're gonna hang out.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Sure, they were, I mean jam packed.
- 13:16Speaker 6: So get I get a text for my brother about
- 13:19Speaker 6: quarter to ten at night, Hey, you're still up. You
- 13:21Speaker 6: want to get together and kind of debrief the day,
- 13:23Speaker 6: And of course I jumped at that. Sure, yeah, we're excited.
- 13:27Speaker 5: So where where do they live? They live in Iowa,
- 13:30Speaker 5: so Appleton, Wisconsin. Oh Appleton, Wisconsin.
- 13:33Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, thirteen hours and twenty five minutes away by
- 13:36Speaker 6: Google Maps, as my brother has texted me, let me know. So, yes, uh,
- 13:42Speaker 6: they'll be done a lot.
- 13:43Speaker 5: How would you played college baseball? Dean Scott graw on
- 13:47Speaker 5: the out of Boundshe of dean of the College of Business,
- 13:49Speaker 5: Mississippi State University, hanging out with us on one oh
- 13:52Speaker 5: five nine The Zone ESPN. How would you describe him
- 13:58Speaker 5: Nolan as a player.
- 14:00Speaker 6: Uh, relentless, committed.
- 14:05Speaker 4: I mean, the guy.
- 14:07Speaker 6: Is a sponge when it comes to learning and adapting
- 14:11Speaker 6: his swing.
- 14:12Speaker 4: But uh, he loves the basketball.
- 14:13Speaker 6: I mean there's not a fastball out there that scares him.
- 14:17Speaker 6: So he's he's excited to play against SEC pitching.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Uh.
- 14:21Speaker 6: He's also phenomenal defender. I read that he had a
- 14:24Speaker 6: great year.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Uh.
- 14:26Speaker 6: One of the things from a family standpoint, you yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 6: you had a great season, but you know what, you
- 14:31Speaker 6: had the number three play on Sports Center Top ten
- 14:33Speaker 6: one night because of a defensive uh play that he made. So,
- 14:36Speaker 6: I mean we get excited about things like that. But
- 14:38Speaker 6: he's he's a he's a very strong defender, a good hitter.
- 14:41Speaker 1: He's he hits for power.
- 14:43Speaker 4: And yeah, he's a small smart ball player.
- 14:46Speaker 5: South Dakota State, like Scott said, they went to the
- 14:49Speaker 5: regionals out Nebraska, which is a big deal. And now
- 14:53Speaker 5: Nolan Grahl will transfer to Mississippi State and.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Your daughter will be a sophomore.
- 14:59Speaker 5: She will, and so we'll have we'll have the gral
- 15:03Speaker 5: cousins on campus.
- 15:05Speaker 6: It's it is and my daughter, my daughter's excited to
- 15:07Speaker 6: have a cousin on campus.
- 15:09Speaker 4: She'll tell you what.
- 15:10Speaker 6: You know, We've spent some time talking about my connections
- 15:13Speaker 6: to Iowa State and so forth. But you know, by
- 15:15Speaker 6: the time it's all said and done, I'm going to
- 15:16Speaker 6: have a nephew with the Mississippi State degree, daughter with
- 15:18Speaker 6: Asissippi State degree, my wife with at least one Mississippi
- 15:21Speaker 6: State degree because she's.
- 15:22Speaker 4: In the grad school.
- 15:25Speaker 6: Uh here, so we're gonna have more Mississippi State degrees
- 15:28Speaker 6: on our walls than any other school in the country.
- 15:30Speaker 5: I love hearing that business dot m s State dot
- 15:34Speaker 5: edu to find out more about everything that's going on,
- 15:38Speaker 5: uh in the College of Business on the campus of
- 15:41Speaker 5: Mississippi State University. How far is Iowa State to Appleton, Wisconsin, Scott.
- 15:49Speaker 6: Iowa State to Appleton, Wisconsin. That's probably about six hours?
- 15:53Speaker 4: Okay, so so bad? Yeah? Okay? And did your brother
- 15:58Speaker 4: play how school or college ball?
- 16:01Speaker 6: So my brother played for Wartburg College Division three. Yeah,
- 16:06Speaker 6: he was a pitcher there.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Yeah. We like I said, we we love our baseball.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Is he older or younger? He's a year younger than
- 16:12Speaker 4: I am.
- 16:13Speaker 6: So so I was playing at Iowa State, same team
- 16:16Speaker 6: at the same time he was playing at Wartburg. So
- 16:18Speaker 6: we actually never really saw each other play in college.
- 16:21Speaker 6: So we're both looking forward to being able to watch
- 16:25Speaker 6: watch our nephew play together.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Was he blown away with duty Noble?
- 16:29Speaker 1: Oh?
- 16:29Speaker 6: Yeah, it's how can you not be right? You know
- 16:33Speaker 6: that conversation that we had at that at the end
- 16:35Speaker 6: of that that long day. Uh, most of it was
- 16:37Speaker 6: on the facilities and just the the coaching staff and
- 16:42Speaker 6: the way that he was treated and and the research
- 16:45Speaker 6: that they had done before he even got to campus.
- 16:47Speaker 6: They were amazed and blown away at how much film
- 16:49Speaker 6: that they had already seen. They knew exactly what they
- 16:52Speaker 6: were getting sure before he even walked on to campus.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:56Speaker 5: The attention to detail from O'Connor, both as you know,
- 17:01Speaker 5: academically and athletically is insane.
- 17:05Speaker 4: And I mean he does that whole thing.
- 17:06Speaker 5: I mean, he wants you to know here's what you'll
- 17:08Speaker 5: be doing here, here is what my expectations for you
- 17:12Speaker 5: baseball wise, but also here's what's happening academically.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Oh yeah, he's locked in on.
- 17:18Speaker 1: That he is.
- 17:18Speaker 6: He's locked in. We are fortunate to have him. We
- 17:22Speaker 6: love having him at the Helm over there in the
- 17:24Speaker 6: baseball program.
- 17:25Speaker 5: Scott Gral on the Out of Bounds Show, ESPN one
- 17:28Speaker 5: oh five nine to the Zone.
- 17:29Speaker 4: He's going to join us for another segment.
- 17:31Speaker 5: He may have a funny story about a coastal RecA
- 17:34Speaker 5: trip here within the last couple of weeks, and then
- 17:37Speaker 5: we'll talk about the momentum and some of the things
- 17:41Speaker 5: happening in the College of Business. Summer doesn't stop. They've
- 17:45Speaker 5: still got students on campus summer one and two. My
- 17:50Speaker 5: daughter just graduated with a business degree from Mississippi State University,
- 17:56Speaker 5: landed a phenomenal job with a eight company, and she
- 18:02Speaker 5: was challenged throughout her her stay there. So that's a
- 18:05Speaker 5: good Mom and dad are always excited when you get
- 18:09Speaker 5: a really good job. You get a big time degree
- 18:12Speaker 5: and a really good job, and we're moving her Sunday
- 18:15Speaker 5: out of state. So that's exciting to Dean Scott Grawl,
- 18:18Speaker 5: we'll hold him over for one more segment. His nephew,
- 18:22Speaker 5: Nolan Gral is now on the Mississippi State baseball team
- 18:26Speaker 5: and he is one of Brian O'Connor's players. That's pretty cool. Appleton, Wisconsin,
- 18:31Speaker 5: South Dakota State and now Mississippi State University. Scott Grawl
- 18:35Speaker 5: on the out of Bound Show coming up next. All right,
- 18:45Speaker 5: good morning, welcome into the Out of Bounds Show. Come

- 21:06Speaker 7: If you ask my wife right now about the academic years,
- 21:09Speaker 7: you would say it hasn't started because of the school
- 21:11Speaker 7: which our children are they attended.
- 21:14Speaker 1: They start tomorrow and she is ready to get them
- 21:16Speaker 1: out of the house.

- 21:26Speaker 7: We have started our fall sports seasons and we're getting
- 21:30Speaker 7: ready to kick off football Friday night.
- 21:32Speaker 4: It's exciting. I mean, this is what Pete.
- 21:34Speaker 5: You know, the student athletes have worked for months, right,
- 21:39Speaker 5: they live in the weight room, they live on the
- 21:41Speaker 5: practice field, football, volleyball, softball, and now they get to
- 21:46Speaker 5: play somebody else. We all remember that. Remember when you
- 21:48Speaker 5: had to play each other for just dozens and dozens
- 21:51Speaker 5: of practices Barrett, and then you got to go play
- 21:55Speaker 5: Prep or JA or Tri County or whoever it was.
- 21:58Speaker 5: And then it was like, Okay, nowired up, I get
- 22:00Speaker 5: to play, I get to put the game day jersey on.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:03Speaker 7: And it's it's you know, you get to the point
- 22:05Speaker 7: where and previous coaching experience plus playing you get to
- 22:09Speaker 7: the point where it's it.
- 22:11Speaker 1: You're you're tired of of.
- 22:12Speaker 7: Hitting and and competing against your own teammates.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I mean it's time to go, uh see what we're
- 22:18Speaker 1: all about.
- 22:19Speaker 7: It's time to go see what your team's all about,
- 22:21Speaker 7: how how you're built and and week ones the great
- 22:24Speaker 7: opportunity for growth. And so we've got a lot of
- 22:27Speaker 7: games this Friday night, uh to kick off our season
- 22:30Speaker 7: and what we call Week zero, and it's gonna be
- 22:32Speaker 7: it's gonna be exciting to see what the outcomes are
- 22:35Speaker 7: and some different matchups.
- 22:36Speaker 1: But yeah, I know the I know the coaches and
- 22:38Speaker 1: the players.
- 22:39Speaker 7: And for particular schools that we play in this this week,
- 22:42Speaker 7: are very excited to get back on the field.
- 22:45Speaker 5: We're visiting with Barrett Donaho and Ross Haley on ESPN
- 22:49Speaker 5: one oh five nine the Zone m S a I
- 22:53Speaker 5: S Dot Org m A I S and Uh, they're
- 22:56Speaker 5: getting everything kicked off. People are getting in school, getting settled,
- 23:00Speaker 5: and we got football, softball, volleyball.
- 23:02Speaker 4: Among other sports.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Rolling.
- 23:04Speaker 5: Now, how long have you been with the m AI
- 23:08Speaker 5: S spar Around eighteen months as the executive director.
- 23:12Speaker 7: I've transitioned from the head of school position at Pillow
- 23:15Speaker 7: Academy in Greenwood. Before I took this position, and it's
- 23:18Speaker 7: been it's been a very we We've got our challenges
- 23:22Speaker 7: in the association like everyone does and every aspect of business,
- 23:27Speaker 7: and you know what they do. But it's been a
- 23:30Speaker 7: very rewarding experience.
- 23:32Speaker 1: And I'm really enjoying my position and.
- 23:34Speaker 7: Really grateful to have Ross Haley come join us as
- 23:37Speaker 7: our chief operating officer for athletics as we move forward
- 23:40Speaker 7: and working on marketing initiatives and different things that we
- 23:45Speaker 7: have just maybe not focused on enough in the past
- 23:48Speaker 7: to grow our brand sure, and and so we're excited
- 23:51Speaker 7: about that as we continue to try to grow our brand.
- 23:53Speaker 7: But no, eighteen months on the job and I'm still here,
- 23:55Speaker 7: and it's it's it's a lot of fun. It's a
- 23:58Speaker 7: lot of fun interact with the heads of schools, the
- 24:01Speaker 7: leaders of the schools, to.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Be a part of that every every day.
- 24:05Speaker 7: And you know, we're just we're blessed to be in
- 24:09Speaker 7: a position where we are in the MS right now,
- 24:10Speaker 7: where we have one hundred and thirty six schools across
- 24:13Speaker 7: four states and one hundred and thirty six schools, Yeah,
- 24:16Speaker 7: one hundred and thirty six schools across four states, and
- 24:18Speaker 7: you know, a large population base in Louisiana that compete
- 24:22Speaker 7: in our league, and.
- 24:24Speaker 1: A couple in Tennessee and a few in Arkansas.
- 24:26Speaker 4: And that's awesome.
- 24:28Speaker 7: It's so anyway, we're blessed and excited about everything that's
- 24:32Speaker 7: happening right now.
- 24:32Speaker 4: And you've never had better.
- 24:33Speaker 5: Athletes are deeper rosters all around the state states. I mean,
- 24:38Speaker 5: this m AIS is loaded with big time athletes, men's
- 24:43Speaker 5: and women's sports.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I think that goes to Major.
- 24:47Speaker 4: League Baseball SEC G five you name it.
- 24:50Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean you've got I mean you've I mean,
- 24:52Speaker 7: let's just take I mean Jackson Prepp for example.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I mean they've got four sorry, three former players.
- 25:00Speaker 7: Uh on MLB rosters right now, two on the starting yeah,
- 25:03Speaker 7: starting yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 1: And I mean and that's crazy, right.
- 25:08Speaker 7: And we were talking about that the other day in
- 25:10Speaker 7: the office, like we need we've got to research that
- 25:13Speaker 7: to figure out does that exist anywhere else? Like does
- 25:16Speaker 7: any other high school in the country have three Major
- 25:20Speaker 7: League Baseball players?
- 25:21Speaker 5: Probably not? Jake Mingham, Connor Griffin, and Will Warren. Will's
- 25:26Speaker 5: with the Yankees. We're gonna have him on next week.
- 25:29Speaker 5: Connor and Mangam who Barrett's talking about, or with the Pirates,
- 25:32Speaker 5: and you got guys moving up in minor league baseball.
- 25:35Speaker 5: I mean you that's but you're right, one school, three
- 25:38Speaker 5: players active, starting, win healthy in MLB. Yeah, two hundred
- 25:43Speaker 5: plus remarkable, absolutely remarkable.
- 25:48Speaker 7: And then you then you've got the Brewers who have
- 25:51Speaker 7: the best record in baseball and they got to start
- 25:53Speaker 7: and Shorts top Magnolia high couper proud.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I mean, that's.
- 25:58Speaker 5: That really is incredible, all right, And I'm glad you
- 26:01Speaker 5: brought that up because I didn't realize that and I
- 26:02Speaker 5: should have Barrett Donahoe on the Out of Bounds Show,
- 26:05Speaker 5: Ross Hailey, So I'm going to bring Ross here in
- 26:08Speaker 5: here for a second. Ross was with how long were
- 26:12Speaker 5: you at mra A twenty eight years? Twenty eight years?
- 26:15Speaker 5: And now you've been with m AIS for two months?
- 26:18Speaker 4: Two months? Okay, and congratulations, thank you.
- 26:22Speaker 8: It's been a great It's been a great uh been
- 26:23Speaker 8: a great opportunity. I'm excited about it.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Yeah, y'all are going to make a good team. Y'all
- 26:28Speaker 4: are on the same page.
- 26:30Speaker 5: And you know, I've met with y'all and I'm excited
- 26:33Speaker 5: about you know, the mojo and the energy and the
- 26:37Speaker 5: excitement around m AIS.
- 26:38Speaker 4: I know you are too.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Absolutely month and a half monthday month and a half.
- 26:43Speaker 1: This was fomal vacation.
- 26:45Speaker 4: That's right, that's great, that's right.
- 26:46Speaker 5: Half So does so football starts this Friday or next Friday.
- 26:51Speaker 7: We had some jamborees h this past week and sub
- 26:55Speaker 7: scrimmages this past week.
- 26:56Speaker 1: We have week zero Friday night.
- 26:58Speaker 7: Okay, we have some good matchups Friday night and and
- 27:03Speaker 7: some some teams that are eager to get on the field.
- 27:06Speaker 7: I don't know the specific number of games, uh, Ross,
- 27:09Speaker 7: you may, but the you know it's you know, you
- 27:13Speaker 7: got I think Lamar Traveling Simpson, Okay, you've got they'll
- 27:17Speaker 7: get after it. Yeah, Jackson Academy Traveling the league. You've
- 27:20Speaker 7: got some really good eight man matchups.
- 27:22Speaker 1: And we have an eight man league which is which
- 27:24Speaker 1: is really thriving right now.
- 27:25Speaker 7: And it's it's it's been exciting to watch those schools
- 27:29Speaker 7: get behind those that that that brand of football and
- 27:32Speaker 7: and what they that excitement that brings to those communities.
- 27:35Speaker 1: It's really been nice to watch over the years.
- 27:37Speaker 7: And and and so we've got some really good eight
- 27:39Speaker 7: man matchups this week as well. So and and I
- 27:43Speaker 7: just named a couple of games they're there are numerous
- 27:46Speaker 7: other games are going to be the great matchups.
- 27:49Speaker 5: But and then everybody gets fired off on the twenty
- 27:52Speaker 5: twenty first, So we'll have a bunch of games this
- 27:55Speaker 5: Friday night and then everybody gets rolling next Riday.
- 28:00Speaker 4: That's right, which is exciting.
- 28:02Speaker 5: M R A usually plays in that week zero week,
- 28:04Speaker 5: but they're they're not playing I think because I had
- 28:06Speaker 5: I had Weaver on two days ago, I think, and
- 28:10Speaker 5: they're playing Ravenwood or somebody.
- 28:12Speaker 4: They travel to Nashville. Yeah, okay, all.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Right, Barrett Donahoe and Ross Haley m A I S
- 28:21Speaker 5: on the Out of Bounds show M S A I
- 28:25Speaker 5: S dot org. So you've got four classifications Barrett right now, Yes,
- 28:30Speaker 5: that's correct.
- 28:31Speaker 7: Okay, four A, three A, two A, one A and
- 28:35Speaker 7: uh I think fourteen schools in the top classification. Then
- 28:39Speaker 7: it tears down from there from four athletic purposes before
- 28:44Speaker 7: classifications and and you know, we're we're in a realignment
- 28:48Speaker 7: year this year, so we'll be you know, a typical
- 28:51Speaker 7: realignment year.
- 28:52Speaker 1: We've gone through some challenges over the last two years with.
- 28:54Speaker 7: The alignment, and I think the people that serve on
- 28:57Speaker 7: our Athletic Commission would laugh. If they heard me say that,
- 29:00Speaker 7: they would probably call it more than challenges.
- 29:02Speaker 1: But we but we are.
- 29:04Speaker 7: We're in a typical realignment cycle year this year, and
- 29:07Speaker 7: so we'll start those conversations in October about what what
- 29:10Speaker 7: we look like moving forward. But I don't see a
- 29:13Speaker 7: lot of changes coming up. I think that we're kind
- 29:15Speaker 7: of kind of feeling like we were in a good
- 29:18Speaker 7: place right now with the classifications that we have.
- 29:20Speaker 5: I know, y'all put a lot of work in it
- 29:22Speaker 5: the last couple of years. That's an understatement, a lot
- 29:25Speaker 5: of hours.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's yes.
- 29:28Speaker 5: We did so four classifications four A, three A, two
- 29:33Speaker 5: A one A with m Ai is correct, okay, championships
- 29:37Speaker 5: all over and sports from from golf to football and
- 29:42Speaker 5: from volleyball to to basketball.
- 29:44Speaker 7: Absolutely, and and you know, like right now, I mean
- 29:46Speaker 7: we've got you know, softball and volleyball. Volleyball has really
- 29:52Speaker 7: taken a hold in our league and it is growing
- 29:55Speaker 7: rapidly and it is it's it's a lot of fun
- 29:58Speaker 7: to watch.
- 29:59Speaker 1: It's a a sport that that.
- 30:02Speaker 7: I think of so many people have in our state
- 30:07Speaker 7: alone have started to embrace. And so we're we're excited
- 30:10Speaker 7: about what's happening there. And then softball, I mean, we
- 30:13Speaker 7: just have tremendous girls soft by athletes and really good
- 30:16Speaker 7: teams that can go compete against anybody.
- 30:18Speaker 5: So the growth in softball has been going on for
- 30:20Speaker 5: a while now, and it's red hot. You're you're right
- 30:23Speaker 5: on volleyball, it's I think there's a lot more runway
- 30:29Speaker 5: and growth there as far as around here in this state.
- 30:33Speaker 5: I mean, we had Todd sandrage On and his daughter
- 30:36Speaker 5: played at m ra A and now she's playing at Jones.
- 30:39Speaker 5: And I mean I've had friends whose daughters have played volleyball,
- 30:44Speaker 5: and it's it's action packed, you know what I'm saying.
- 30:47Speaker 5: So people get in and you're locked in and it's
- 30:51Speaker 5: not long.
- 30:52Speaker 4: I mean, it's great. So that's what people want this
- 30:54Speaker 4: day and age.
- 30:55Speaker 1: You know.
- 30:55Speaker 8: Another another part of volleyball growing right now is it
- 30:59Speaker 8: grew through the high schools and because it grew through
- 31:01Speaker 8: the high schools, now the jucos have started offering.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Me that's a good point.
- 31:05Speaker 8: There are there's so many there's so many more jucos
- 31:08Speaker 8: offering volleyball now than there were three years ago, and
- 31:11Speaker 8: that's just going to continue to help volleyball grow across
- 31:14Speaker 8: our state when there's that many more opportunities for them
- 31:17Speaker 8: to play, for for girls to play at the at
- 31:19Speaker 8: the next level. Yeah, the Jucos, the Jucos embracing volleyball
- 31:24Speaker 8: is going to increase the high school participation also.
- 31:27Speaker 4: Which is great. More scholarships, more opportunities.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Absolutely, But what you said, I think is real. I
- 31:32Speaker 1: mean it's so fast paced.
- 31:34Speaker 7: Yeah, and and and and that just keeps everything moving,
- 31:37Speaker 7: and and it's the girls are energetic on the court,
- 31:40Speaker 7: and it's I don't know, it's fun to want.
- 31:42Speaker 5: Coaching's gotten better, Development's gotten better from elementary and the
- 31:45Speaker 5: junior high which is feeding what y'all are talking about
- 31:48Speaker 5: in the high school and and post high school. So
- 31:51Speaker 5: softball and and let me get this right, so football
- 31:54Speaker 5: is full speed ahead, y'all have got softball full speed ahead, volleyball,
- 32:01Speaker 5: cross country. So you got a lot of sports that
- 32:03Speaker 5: are already rolling big time and and either competing or
- 32:07Speaker 5: about to compete.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Right.
- 32:09Speaker 8: I have a we'll have a spirit competition for our
- 32:11Speaker 8: cheerleaders and dancers coming up September ninth. We have a
- 32:15Speaker 8: we have a state swim meet coming up also, nice.
- 32:17Speaker 8: So uh, there's you know, the the swim is mostly
- 32:21Speaker 8: still club swimming across across our league, but there we
- 32:25Speaker 8: have we have several schools that have regular season swim
- 32:27Speaker 8: meets also, So yeah, it's you know, it's it's out
- 32:30Speaker 8: there and there's a there's a nice there's a nice
- 32:32Speaker 8: group of kids that are out there swimming all the time,
- 32:34Speaker 8: swimming for clubs and swimming for their schools during the
- 32:36Speaker 8: regular season. And then the the the state swim meet
- 32:39Speaker 8: that comes up out at grit On Lakelands.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Yes, great place, grit Fitness and Training.
- 32:45Speaker 8: Thank you, Ross, I can I can I can help
- 32:47Speaker 8: you throw some sponsors into sometimes.
- 32:49Speaker 5: Yeah, Barrett Donaho and Ross Haley m A I S
- 32:52Speaker 5: M s a I s dot org. The school year
- 32:57Speaker 5: is underway and the athletic calendar has started, and everybody's
- 33:01Speaker 5: chomping at the bit with high school football. As Barrett mentioned,
- 33:05Speaker 5: we're not been about forty eight hours away from week
- 33:07Speaker 5: zero where they're going to have a bunch of games
- 33:10Speaker 5: going on around the state or states that encompass this
- 33:15Speaker 5: great organization. And then next week everybody's playing game on
- 33:20Speaker 5: and then before we know it, we're gonna have the
- 33:22Speaker 5: j Preps and the MRA Heartfields and the it's going
- 33:26Speaker 5: to be crazy, or like Barrett said, you got Lamar
- 33:29Speaker 5: and Simpson right out of the gate. You know, they
- 33:31Speaker 5: want to get after each other and they know how
- 33:32Speaker 5: to play football over there.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Obviously, Jacob Land left.
- 33:36Speaker 5: MRA to go, I mean left Lamar to go to MRA,
- 33:39Speaker 5: and Simpson's been playing great football for a long time
- 33:43Speaker 5: down on Highway forty nine South.
- 33:45Speaker 4: So that'll be.
- 33:48Speaker 5: How about a chomping of the bit game this Friday
- 33:50Speaker 5: night between Lamar and Simpson MSAIS dot org Ross.
- 33:56Speaker 4: How weird will it be?
- 33:57Speaker 5: So when Ricky Black or Richard Dewie stepped out or
- 34:00Speaker 5: retire legendary coaches and in this association, you know, I
- 34:05Speaker 5: mean it's crazy. It's going to be wild not to
- 34:08Speaker 5: see coach Dewise out there this year, just like it
- 34:12Speaker 5: was crazy not to see coach Black after the run
- 34:14Speaker 5: that he made at at Jackson Prepp.
- 34:17Speaker 4: Yeah, our coach Sojourner at JA. Absolutely. I mean you're
- 34:20Speaker 4: talking about Hall of Famers.
- 34:22Speaker 8: Yeah, it's uh, you know, we we've we've had lots
- 34:24Speaker 8: of uh. I mean I think people across I think
- 34:27Speaker 8: I think people across our state understand the level of
- 34:30Speaker 8: coaching that the m A. I. S has and uh
- 34:33Speaker 8: some of those, you know, some of those folks that
- 34:35Speaker 8: have been legendary coaches that have been in for so long.
- 34:37Speaker 8: But we have so many great young coaches across our association.
- 34:39Speaker 8: You mentioned Jacob and in the world of football, and uh,
- 34:43Speaker 8: you know, there's there's just there's a lot of great
- 34:45Speaker 8: coaches across our association. Harper Huddle is going to do
- 34:47Speaker 8: a great job replacing coach Deist there.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Uh, those are a big shoot.
- 34:51Speaker 5: We talked about Kaylin de Boor replacing Nick Saban, Harper
- 34:57Speaker 5: Huddell's replacing Richard Dewise.
- 34:59Speaker 8: Yeah, and you know, just the the entire if you
- 35:02Speaker 8: look at the entire Metro area of coaches, they're all
- 35:05Speaker 8: so much younger than, uh than they.
- 35:07Speaker 4: Used to be. Real, Yeah, you got a youth movement. Yeah.
- 35:09Speaker 8: Ten you know, ten years ago you still had you
- 35:11Speaker 8: still had Bill Ball coaching, and you had uh, you know,
- 35:14Speaker 8: coach Deuise, you had Tim Wise coaching at Jackson Prepp.
- 35:17Speaker 8: Just an older, an older group of folks. Now you
- 35:20Speaker 8: look up and uh, I think Chris Goodman in the
- 35:23Speaker 8: Metro area is probably the oldest one and he's he's
- 35:25Speaker 8: probably only thirty three or thirty four years old.
- 35:27Speaker 5: So goy who knew that Herbert's the senior guy or
- 35:31Speaker 5: some of those. I mean, because that's a great point.
- 35:33Speaker 5: You had Ricky Black, Jan Sojourner, Bill Ball, Richard Deuise,
- 35:38Speaker 5: Joey Hawkins, all these people that had been coaching and
- 35:41Speaker 5: very successful for a long time, among others. You got
- 35:45Speaker 5: a look, y'all got a this is exciting. Y'all got
- 35:47Speaker 5: a youth movement going on here. I didn't even thought
- 35:50Speaker 5: about that within the m a i S.
- 35:51Speaker 7: Yeah, And I think that it goes to show that
- 35:55Speaker 7: the caliber of young coaches in our association is eat.
- 36:00Speaker 4: I mean, it really is.
- 36:01Speaker 7: I mean these you know, you watch you watch these
- 36:04Speaker 7: young coaches on the sidelines, on the basketball.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Court, wherever they are, and whatever sport.
- 36:11Speaker 7: And you just see that they're going to take the
- 36:13Speaker 7: place of that generation that is retiring and moving on
- 36:17Speaker 7: and had had really starved the m a i S
- 36:21Speaker 7: in a tremendous capacity of doubt and and and really
- 36:25Speaker 7: created what we are today, right and put us helped
- 36:28Speaker 7: us land in the map of on the map of
- 36:31Speaker 7: success and athletics.
- 36:33Speaker 1: And so yeah, the youth movement. I haven't really thought
- 36:36Speaker 1: of it that way. It's a great way to put it.
- 36:37Speaker 5: Yeah, but and it's pretty awesome and excited. I mean,
- 36:40Speaker 5: you love what those men and women laid the groundwork, right,
- 36:44Speaker 5: and now you've got this uh youth movement in m A.
- 36:48Speaker 5: I s I'm gonna have to give Chuck Box a
- 36:50Speaker 5: hard time. I'm gonna have to tell him I'm at
- 36:52Speaker 5: a texting after the show and let hey, I just
- 36:54Speaker 5: thought of this with Barrett and Ross. You're you're one
- 36:56Speaker 5: of the old guys, I mean, Jackson and Cat to
- 37:00Speaker 5: be hired a guy off the Texas Longhorn staff, How
- 37:03Speaker 5: awesome is that?
- 37:03Speaker 1: Yeah, glad to have him back in this up too.
- 37:06Speaker 7: I mean it'll be it's going to be really unique
- 37:09Speaker 7: to see how that dynamic plays out there. I think
- 37:12Speaker 7: he's of course, everybody knows he's a phenomenal coach, so
- 37:16Speaker 7: really really excited to have it back in the association.
- 37:18Speaker 5: Well, you know this, when you have coaches who elevate
- 37:21Speaker 5: their program, it makes the others, It makes the rivals
- 37:23Speaker 5: and the competitors get their act together, right, absolutely, I
- 37:27Speaker 5: mean that's that's what you want. And you know, prep
- 37:30Speaker 5: one forever and then others started jumping on board, JA, MRA, Heartfield,
- 37:36Speaker 5: you know, Park, Layne Pillar. The list goes on and on,
- 37:40Speaker 5: and now it's almost like the portal with SEC. I
- 37:45Speaker 5: mean there's been a leveling of the playing field, which
- 37:47Speaker 5: is very you don't ever know who's gonna win it now,
- 37:50Speaker 5: especially in this metro area. Could be Heartfield, could be
- 37:53Speaker 5: m RA, could be Prep, could be JA. I think
- 37:55Speaker 5: that's exciting for you guys, especially knowing that they're going
- 37:59Speaker 5: to play in the reg or season and who knows
- 38:00Speaker 5: who's gonna tie up in the postseason in the playoffs.
- 38:05Speaker 5: Barrett Donahue and Ross Haley, m A I S joining

- 38:54Speaker 7: a football championship game at Mississippi College, Hartfield and Jackson Academy.
- 39:00Speaker 1: It was is I'm not going to say it was.
- 39:04Speaker 7: A record crowd for our for our largest classification. I would,
- 39:07Speaker 7: I don't have the numbers to back that up, but
- 39:10Speaker 7: it was a packed house, amiss to become, Yeah, I mean,
- 39:14Speaker 7: and the people that are coming to watch the athletes
- 39:17Speaker 7: in our association today is more than ever before, you know,
- 39:21Speaker 7: And and so yeah, it's it's it's awesome. We look
- 39:25Speaker 7: forward to Friday nights and watching you know, and of
- 39:27Speaker 7: course it's it's a lot of that comes back to
- 39:29Speaker 7: the communities, sure, I mean the communities and the community

- 41:12Speaker 8: come back and and tell us, you know, tell us
- 41:14Speaker 8: their fond memories of our association. Absolutely just to get
- 41:18Speaker 8: those recorded. And uh, we're partnering with the frascona law
- 41:21Speaker 8: firm and Mike Frascon and we've we've been visiting and
- 41:25Speaker 8: and we're gonna amp it up. We're gonna uh, we're

- 41:33Speaker 8: be one of our guests, nice along with more more
- 41:36Speaker 8: of our older folks that have So it's gonna be
- 41:39Speaker 8: it's not just gonna focus on history any longer. It's
- 41:42Speaker 8: gonna focus on today and history. So every you know,
- 41:45Speaker 8: every week is gonna be a different type of guest
- 41:47Speaker 8: on there. But it's gonna be people that have been
- 41:49Speaker 8: through our association, that have that helped make our association better.
- 41:52Speaker 5: Sure, So y'all laid the groundwork with the first few
