- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:21Hey everyone, welcome to the show.
- 0:23Thank you for listening. It is almost the end of June and
- 0:26we are almost up against 4th of July.
- 0:28I can't believe it. I don't know where time goes,
- 0:30but this is an exciting time. I love this season and I'm
- 0:33excited to be with you today. In this episode, I want to talk
- 0:36about something we've already talked about before and it's
- 0:39this idea of bringing ease into our life, bringing a little bit
- 0:44more ease. Asking the question, what if
- 0:46this was easy? But I want to look at it through
- 0:48the lens of a common thought pattern that so many people
- 0:52have. And it's this idea that things
- 0:54are hard in life. As I've been talking more and
- 0:58more to clients about this idea of ease, it seems to be hitting,
- 1:02it's landing in the conversations that I'm having.
- 1:04People are relating to this. They're also sharing how they're
- 1:08incorporating it into their life.
- 1:10And so I wanted to have another conversation about it, but
- 1:14looking at what inspired it, which is this idea that so many
- 1:18people walk around saying how hard things are.
- 1:23And this is something that I can relate to.
- 1:25I think maybe many of you can relate to this because we live
- 1:28in a society where hard work is deeply valued and the hustle and
- 1:32the grind is celebrated. Being resilient, being gritty,
- 1:36working really hard is a win. That's considered an
- 1:40achievement. And I totally bought into that.
- 1:42I've bought into that my whole life.
- 1:44My whole life, I've worked hard. Even when I was a little kid, I
- 1:47remember I didn't go out and help my mom in the yard for like
- 1:5030 minutes. I helped her for four hours.
- 1:53Dave, my brother and I, we didn't build Legos for just a
- 1:56little while. I worked so hard for hours
- 2:00building whatever it is that we are building.
- 2:02I've always worked really hard and basketball, getting up for
- 2:066:00 AM practices when I was 1/6 and 1/7 grader.
- 2:10I mean, that's ridiculous. Just throughout middle school
- 2:14and high school and college, like I never got a beat.
- 2:17I worked so hard all the time, and I think it's part of who I
- 2:21am. I think there's some saboteur
- 2:23behavior there. I could admit.
- 2:25There's a place where the hard work can get unhealthy.
- 2:29There's a spectrum always, and it's easy to slide too far down
- 2:32the spectrum and get to into that saboteur place where it's
- 2:35not healthy and it's rooted in fear.
- 2:37But we can also acknowledge that hard work serves people well.
- 2:41It's served me very well and there's a lot of things that
- 2:45I've been able to do and achieve as a result of the hard work
- 2:48that I've put in. However, I'm 43 years old now
- 2:52and I've done a lot of the hard work.
- 2:54Right now I'm looking at how do I work smarter and not harder?
- 2:58How do I discover a better way where I can feel a little bit
- 3:02more fun and joy and play and not just work, work, work?
- 3:07Because it's really easy to slip into that habit.
- 3:09And I don't know about you, but I know a lot of people who feel
- 3:12the same way. It's really easy to slide into
- 3:16the work zone and not be prioritizing the other parts of
- 3:20life where there's ease and peace and play and joy.
- 3:24If you guys have been listening to the podcast, you know that my
- 3:26coach gave me a challenge a couple of months ago, a
- 3:30challenge of ease. She said, I want you to think
- 3:34about bringing and inviting more ease into your life and asking
- 3:37yourself the question, what if this was easy?
- 3:39And I've been working on this for the past three months.
- 3:42Some days I'm doing it really well.
- 3:44I feel like I'm crushing the challenge.
- 3:47I am really good at asking myself the question, what if
- 3:50this was easy? That feels accessible to me and
- 3:53it allows me to shift my energy pretty quickly.
- 3:56You know what? I find most times that when I do
- 4:00ask myself these questions and invite more ease into my life,
- 4:04things actually feel easier. It really does work.
- 4:07It seems that things work out better, faster, simpler than I
- 4:11thought they would. And so I've been practicing this
- 4:14a lot. I'm also starting to understand
- 4:17when we try to practice being in ease, we also have to practice
- 4:21being in alignment. So alignment to me means that I
- 4:25am listening to my intuition, that I am trusting myself, that
- 4:29I am not leading with fear, which means I have to be looking
- 4:34at the fears that I have coming up, that I have to be
- 4:37acknowledging the feelings that I have coming up for myself
- 4:39right now. So that's been a really good
- 4:41practice. But I'm also not going to lie to
- 4:44you, there are some days where I'm just not as good at inviting
- 4:48the ease in. There are definitely nights
- 4:50where I'm laying in bed and I think I could have done a lot
- 4:53better with the ease today. I was just forcing a lot of
- 4:58stuff to happen in my day today. And I know the difference
- 5:00between ease and forcing things. You can feel it in your body.
- 5:04Forcing means I'm pushing myself.
- 5:06I'm overthinking things, I'm ruminating.
- 5:08It feels sluggish, it feels hard, and I'm starting to get
- 5:12better and better at recognizing that.
- 5:14The way that I know is that I don't feel at peace in my body
- 5:19or my mind. Especially when I'm laying in
- 5:20bed at night and I'm kind of thinking about my day.
- 5:23I can very easily tell, am I at peace in my body, in my mind
- 5:27right now? It's a yes or no, very easy to
- 5:29tell. And then I can also pick out
- 5:31that I'm ruminating about certain things.
- 5:33I'm feeling little smoke trails of my To Do List in my mind and
- 5:37frankly, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.
- 5:39That's when I know that I didn't do my ease challenge very well
- 5:41that day. And I'm sharing this with you as
- 5:44a reminder that this is all such a practice.
- 5:47It's not enough to hear an idea one time.
- 5:50It's about the practice. It's about tapping into it every
- 5:54single day. It's about collecting data at
- 5:57the end of the day and saying, did I do this well or did I not?
- 6:00Frankly, I'm happy that I'm having some good days, even
- 6:04despite the fact that I'm having a few off days as well.
- 6:06I know that I'm going to get better at this as time goes on.
- 6:09I know that this is going to be a daily practice for me and it's
- 6:12probably one of my most important practices right now
- 6:16because this is a very old pattern.
- 6:18It's probably lifetime's old, who knows?
- 6:21And so I will have some grace for myself as I work this
- 6:26practice so I can make the shifts.
- 6:28And I do feel like every time I tap into this ease, I can shift
- 6:32my energy. It works.
- 6:35And I could start to move away and let go of the story of I
- 6:38have to work so hard and this new story of things can be easy
- 6:43is actually going to serve me a little bit better.
- 6:44At this point in my life, I always just visualize a little
- 6:47thread to the old story being cut and feeling a little bit
- 6:51more free. I think for me, the real work
- 6:54right now is to hold the sentiment.
- 6:56This is easy when I don't feel good or when I'm feeling off.
- 7:01That is the true work and my God, it is very tough.
- 7:06I'm having a lot of days right now where things feel
- 7:10challenging and I'm faced with information that's coming in
- 7:13that I wasn't expecting or I have resistance to.
- 7:16So there are a lot of times when I am being forced to step up to
- 7:21the plate here. That's the real work.
- 7:24I think I'm actually, I'm trying to look at it as that.
- 7:27I'm looking at it as this is the real work where there's going to
- 7:30be the true payoff. Because I'm not just doing this
- 7:34practice when everything is smooth sailing.
- 7:36I'm doing it during a very challenging time of my life.
- 7:39And that is going to pay off. Huge mental strength is the name
- 7:44of the game right now. And there's no better way to
- 7:45build that than to go out and put the reps in when you don't
- 7:50necessarily feel your best. And the question that I'm asking
- 7:53myself, especially in this next coming week, is what is feeling
- 7:57like ease? What helps me get into a higher
- 7:59frequency place? What helps me get out of the
- 8:01story of you have to work so hard and you have to be afraid
- 8:05of what's going to happen if you don't work hard and maybe shift
- 8:08into ease a little bit more. What is helping me get there?
- 8:11Connection. Definitely connection with
- 8:13friends and family. Even just sending little
- 8:15messages to people, that's feeling like ease.
- 8:18Movement always feels like ease. It reminds me that my body and
- 8:22my mind are strong and that is very helpful to create some ease
- 8:27in my body and my life. Music is very always helpful.
- 8:31Music is just elevating. It lifts me.
- 8:33It gets raises my frequency. Being in my work is actually
- 8:38very grounding and feels like ease in the way that it gives me
- 8:41purpose. So working with my clients and
- 8:43coaching and doing creating content and trainings for
- 8:47people, that stuff feels fun and that creates some ease in my
- 8:51life. Play is huge.
- 8:54My wife and I are really working on trying to invite more fun and
- 8:58play into our life so that we can make sure that we're
- 9:01catching all the beautiful moments.
- 9:03And that has been awesome. And then the last thing that I
- 9:07think about is just savoring and basking in the moments of
- 9:09feeling good. That helps me remember the ease
- 9:13that is all around me and that I don't always have to subscribe
- 9:15to that old story of you have to work so hard.
- 9:18You everything is so hard. I don't want to be in that
- 9:21anymore. I don't want to be in that
- 9:23pattern. And I know that if you can
- 9:24relate to this pattern, you probably don't want to be
- 9:26sitting in that place for the rest of your life either.
- 9:29So this is just a short, powerful reminder that the old
- 9:34story of working so hard, it does serve you in so many ways.
- 9:38It's served me in many, many ways.
- 9:41But there is a balance and there is a way to invite more ease in
- 9:45without losing your ground. And so let's all practice that.
- 9:48I know I'm going to be deep in that practice the next couple
- 9:50months, and I'm cheering you on as you work on it as well.
- 9:54So thank you for listening to this episode.
- 9:56I appreciate you and thank you for being ready to impact.
