- 0:53SPEAKER_00: It's more of an intimate sort of a deal.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: And I'm really honored and excited to be part of the Refined Conference this year.

- 1:10SPEAKER_00: You know, as writers, we have lots of project-based items to think about.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: And these big items can take weeks or months to complete.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And this can include things like building a website, writing a book, creating a course, building an author platform, or starting a podcast.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And if we're honest with ourselves, we've got to admit that it's really easy to get paralyzed by all the things that you feel like you should be doing.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: And the small steps are important to this.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: In fact, the big steps are made up of the small steps.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Oftentimes we get paralyzed because we have this big project in front of us that's going to take forever and we get so stressed out about it.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: But remember that every long journey is made up of a bunch of little tiny steps.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: If you drive from New York to LA, what's that journey made up of?
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: It's made up of individual miles.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And every mile marker along that journey is a sign that you have made a little bit of progress.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: So as you're working on these big projects in your life and in your writing and in your business, remember that just daily steps, making that small progress, is how you achieve those big goals.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's this is really the whole idea behind this podcast.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And why I do what I do is to encourage people in those daily habits that are going to help you make progress over the long term.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Thomas Carlisle, who is a British historian, said this our main business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: So what do you need to do today?
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Not next week or next month, but what do you need to do today?
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Or in other words, what lies clearly at hand?
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: I encourage you to focus on that thing until it's done.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Don't spend so much time thinking about the big projects that the small steps don't actually get accomplished.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Focusing on today's work and making sure it gets done is the only way to take those big steps that are going to allow you to make that giant leap forward eventually.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: So here's today's challenge.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: What is a single small step that you can take today that's going to help you reach a bigger goal that's important to you?
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Hey, big thanks to today's sponsor, Vellum.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Now, speaking of big projects, one of the biggest projects that you will ever do is writing a book.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: And an important part of writing a book, if you are an indie publisher, is getting your book formatted.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: And if you don't pay somebody to do it, then you're going to have to do it yourself.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And my favorite tool for DIY book formatting is Vellum.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I've used it for years.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: It's great and it lets you build style and preview your book all while having a blast while you're doing it.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Now, the coolest thing is that you can download Vellum and you can play with your books formatting as much as you want, and you don't have to pay a cent until you actually want to generate those ebook and print files.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: To download Vellum for free, go to trivellum.comslash daily.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: That's trivellum.comslash daily.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, as always, thanks so much for listening.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you so much.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: And I'll see you on the flip side.
