- 1:32Speaker 4: So my mother would tell me, don't don't put on
- 1:34Speaker 4: twenty three, as you would say, don't know what you
- 1:36Speaker 4: wear that number anymore?
- 1:37Speaker 5: Say tired.
- 1:38Speaker 6: That's what my mother says about the Juny three twenty
- 1:41Speaker 6: three to Jordan.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:42Speaker 2: So yeah, man, First and foremost, thank you guys for
- 1:44Speaker 2: your support. You know, it's been it's been a tremendous journey.
- 1:47Speaker 2: It's crazy, only twenty three weeks and it's like it
- 1:49Speaker 2: feels like we've been doing this like five years.
- 1:51Speaker 5: Everybody asked, it's the same thing. This has only been
- 1:53Speaker 5: six months. Yeah, I haven't been doing this forever. That's
- 1:55Speaker 5: a fact.
- 1:55Speaker 6: This is a fact.
- 1:56Speaker 5: Twenty three episodes a great platform.
- 1:58Speaker 6: I appreciate youall having Nah, thank you, thank you. So yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Today is a very extremely special episode. We actually was
- 2:05Speaker 2: planning on speaking about a few things, but then we
- 2:08Speaker 2: had like an hour long conversation that kind of shifted
- 2:12Speaker 2: the conversation. I think we're going we got this is
- 2:15Speaker 2: this is gonna be a good one. So O May
- 2:16Speaker 2: and Chris Gotti, if you're not familiar, so Murder inc
- 2:21Speaker 2: Ran the music industry in the early two thousand when
- 2:25Speaker 2: I was in prep school in high school, I couldn't
- 2:29Speaker 2: turn on MTV of BT without Jaul shan t like
- 2:32Speaker 2: it was crazy.
- 2:35Speaker 5: They destroyed it.
- 2:36Speaker 2: So so yeah, so you might know obviously Jaul, but
- 2:42Speaker 2: Chris Gotti was one of the founding members.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Yeah, me and my brother, you know IRV Gotti boy,
- 2:49Speaker 4: So this is Irv's baby.
- 2:51Speaker 5: I'm the uncle to Murder.
- 2:54Speaker 2: So yeah, so heavy in the music business. But we're
- 2:57Speaker 2: gonna talk about a lot of other things outside of music,
- 2:59Speaker 2: just business in general, because obviously this is a business podcast,
- 3:02Speaker 2: so we want to quip you guys with all of
- 3:03Speaker 2: the different.
- 3:04Speaker 6: Tools that you need.
- 3:05Speaker 2: So before we start, I want to tell a story
- 3:07Speaker 2: how we actually met because networking is powerful, right, that's.
- 3:09Speaker 5: Right, relationships.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah, So Chris, he does a lot of different things, right,
- 3:14Speaker 2: He was a music exact, he ran a construction company,
- 3:18Speaker 2: really invests in real estate. And another thing that he
- 3:21Speaker 2: does is he's in the financial services industry. So anybody
- 3:24Speaker 2: that listens to the podcast, you know my financial advisor.
- 3:26Speaker 2: So long story short, we got introduced through a mutual
- 3:31Speaker 2: colleague and he's like you ever heard of Chris Gotti.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, of course he's I think you guys
- 3:39Speaker 2: should be I might be able to work together. So
- 3:42Speaker 2: we were I don't even know if you remember this,
- 3:44Speaker 2: but I have like an impeccable memory. So we were
- 3:46Speaker 2: in LA at Greystone, right, a nice club, Greystone fact,
- 4:00Speaker 2: that's crazy, that's crazy. So we was in Graystone, me
- 4:02Speaker 2: my man Mike, Mike was Scutt and so another one
- 4:07Speaker 2: of our friends, DJ suss One.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Yeah, we're from the same area.
- 4:12Speaker 2: So sus was DJing that night, and so we were
- 4:16Speaker 2: in like the v I P area, right, So Chris
- 4:19Speaker 2: was there, and I introduced myself to Chris.
- 4:22Speaker 6: I'm telling him, He's like, yeah, cool.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So we exchanged numbers and then when we got back
- 4:26Speaker 2: to New York, we actually met in the office and
- 4:29Speaker 2: just a super humble dude, Like you can kind of
- 4:32Speaker 2: just tell somebody's energy when you meet him. And that's
- 4:34Speaker 2: the first thing that I, I, you know, I noticed,
- 4:37Speaker 2: is that it just real humble and just you know,
- 4:40Speaker 2: just you could kind of feel like that energy of
- 4:42Speaker 2: just organic and just just a good dude. So but
- 4:46Speaker 2: that night was crazy though, because Rihanna was definitely there.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I remember, and should.
- 4:53Speaker 6: I tell that story.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Tell this is a real one. So so my man Mike,
- 4:58Speaker 5: my man.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Mike is there and I'm telling him. Club's closed at
- 5:02Speaker 2: like two o'clock. In LA, they'll close early. So we're
- 5:04Speaker 2: from the New York. Club's closed like four thirty, right four,
- 5:07Speaker 2: So it's like one thirty. The club is about to close,
- 5:10Speaker 2: and the VIP section is like real small. So we're
- 5:13Speaker 2: in there. We're right next to Chris and like three
- 5:17Speaker 2: feet away, I see Rihanna comes with her people. So
- 5:21Speaker 2: I'm like yo, I'm like yo, Mike, that's Rihanna right there.
- 5:24Speaker 2: He's like, let's not Rihanna. I'm looking right at her
- 5:26Speaker 2: like that, I see Rihanna, she's right there.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Facts.
- 5:29Speaker 6: So so he told he told Sus.
- 5:32Speaker 2: So Sus obviously knows that. So Sus walks up to it.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Like so he's in Suss like the introduced me to Rihanna.
- 5:37Speaker 2: It's us kind of like ignored him. So Sus talked
- 5:42Speaker 2: to her. So Mike tell me like, yo, get your
- 5:44Speaker 2: camera ready. I'm like, no, don't do that.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Don't do it, bro, do it.
- 5:47Speaker 6: Don't do it, brother, I get your camera.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Man.
- 5:49Speaker 2: So he walked up to her and I'm staying like
- 5:53Speaker 2: five people because I don't want to keep and he's like, yo,
- 5:58Speaker 2: he starts saying, He's like, you know, I get a picture,
- 6:01Speaker 2: and you know the way she looked at was so
- 6:03Speaker 2: so violently disrespectful.
- 6:09Speaker 5: It's the island girl that maybe.
- 6:11Speaker 6: The picture never got took for.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Shout out to Rihanna, shout out to shout she's doing big.
- 6:17Speaker 6: She's blowing up right now. I think millions.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Yeah, don't worry about the music. Fenty is going to
- 6:24Speaker 5: take it out of this world. Shout out. Shout out to.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Jay Brown too. That's where it helps. Yeah, definitely, incredible
- 6:30Speaker 4: moves they make.
- 6:31Speaker 2: So all right, so we're gonna jump right into it. So,
- 6:33Speaker 2: like I said, my man Chris Ran, they murder ain't random.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I can't really if you're not old enough to fully understand,
- 6:39Speaker 2: it's half for me to actually say how big that
- 6:41Speaker 2: they were. But you were telling me before, like you
- 6:44Speaker 2: had like a number one song on the radio or
- 6:47Speaker 2: something like that for like twenty weeks.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Not No, it's not just one song. It was multiple songs.
- 6:51Speaker 4: So you know, a lot of the misconceptions they just
- 6:54Speaker 4: think it was murder ink. But the reality IRV as
- 6:57Speaker 4: a producer who was one of the Biggs producers, if
- 7:00Speaker 4: not the biggest at that time, and we produced for
- 7:05Speaker 4: everybody the industry. We literally produced for the industry. IRV
- 7:09Speaker 4: was looked at it as the fixer. So if you wasn't
- 7:12Speaker 4: selling records, we called IRV gotti, let me get a
- 7:14Speaker 4: single or something, and next thing you know, you sold
- 7:17Speaker 4: some records. So we was I believe it's forty eight
- 7:20Speaker 4: weeks out of fifty two weeks at number one with multiple.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Artists outside what you said, forty eight weeks out of
- 7:26Speaker 2: fifty two weeks in a.
- 7:26Speaker 5: Year, that's a different type of run.
- 7:28Speaker 6: Murder ain't had a song.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Imagine, imagine you do that, like you could understand how
- 7:32Speaker 4: powerful we were, or just from that saying that, like
- 7:36Speaker 4: every record exect, every label wanted to do business with
- 7:39Speaker 4: you because you was that hot. You're on the Billboard
- 7:42Speaker 4: charts every week and it's your music, your sound, like man,
- 7:47Speaker 4: it was. It was a great time. Thirty million more
- 7:52Speaker 4: than that now but yeah, you know who's counting, so yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 4: so all right, but over forty million. But before the
- 8:00Speaker 4: music industry started, you actually you ran a construction company.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yes, so can we talk about that, because that to
- 8:08Speaker 2: me was real interesting where you told me that you
- 8:11Speaker 2: were a millionaire before you got into music.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Yeah, that was me and my sister Tina.
- 8:16Speaker 4: You know, we found a general contractor actually did demolition,
- 8:22Speaker 4: and we wanted to do all of the building side
- 8:25Speaker 4: of it, not the demo part, and cut a deal
- 8:28Speaker 4: Ken Frolick Gateway Demolition. That was the name of the
- 8:30Speaker 4: company that's still existing. They are still out there. And
- 8:34Speaker 4: he cut a deal and we was able to bond
- 8:36Speaker 4: these jobs. So if you didn't understand what I mean
- 8:38Speaker 4: why you need to be bonded because you have to
- 8:40Speaker 4: have the money for the job in case something goes wrong.
- 8:43Speaker 4: So if the job is five million dollars, you had
- 8:45Speaker 4: to have five million dollars you know, to cover that
- 8:48Speaker 4: job or a bond they would covered for you. And
- 8:51Speaker 4: had to have the you know, all the assets that
- 8:54Speaker 4: you might need to acquire the bond for you. And
- 8:56Speaker 4: we didn't have it at the time, and you know,
- 9:00Speaker 4: cut the deal and we went on a nice little
- 9:01Speaker 4: run with construction.
- 9:03Speaker 3: While you were doing a construction though, right, So you're
- 9:05Speaker 3: you learned a bunch of trades, right, and pretty much
- 9:08Speaker 3: did everything everything.
- 9:09Speaker 4: I tell I like to tell everyone, I built everything,
- 9:12Speaker 4: but a bridge, right, think about that. I built high rises, buildings,
- 9:17Speaker 4: I did streets, you know, the roads and highways, parks.
- 9:22Speaker 4: I mean, there's nothing I really didn't do from a
- 9:24Speaker 4: construction standpoint. And we did the concrete side, which is
- 9:28Speaker 4: so if you think of a from a dollar standpoint,
- 9:30Speaker 4: if if there was a job to build a building,
- 9:32Speaker 4: the biggest part of that job is the concrete, right,
- 9:36Speaker 4: That's the foundation, that's all the walls, that's everything going
- 9:39Speaker 4: up the floors. And that's what we did as a
- 9:42Speaker 4: black owned company. It was crazy, all self taught, all
- 9:45Speaker 4: self taught, and everything self taught because you all right,
- 9:49Speaker 4: so you still didn't go to school. So that's a
- 9:51Speaker 4: big deal for me, Like I always throw that out
- 9:54Speaker 4: there because I let everyone know you could do it right.
- 9:56Speaker 4: You don't have to go to school to learn. You
- 9:58Speaker 4: could learn on your own, but you got to have
- 10:01Speaker 4: the will to learn.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And I did definitely have to be glad you said
- 10:04Speaker 2: that because we actually had an episode we talked about college,
- 10:06Speaker 2: and more and more people are saying, like, it's college
- 10:09Speaker 2: worth it, right, So we're not discourage anybody from going
- 10:11Speaker 2: to college, but there are ways to be successful if
- 10:14Speaker 2: you don't go to college.
- 10:15Speaker 5: Right.
- 10:15Speaker 6: So you okay, but college helps, right, So let me
- 10:20Speaker 6: answer that.
- 10:21Speaker 5: Does college help? Do you agree that college helps?
- 10:24Speaker 2: It depends on the I think it can help. It
- 10:28Speaker 2: can help, It has the potential to help.
- 10:30Speaker 4: You know, when I think of myself, I don't think.
- 10:32Speaker 4: I don't look at myself as typical average, right, I
- 10:37Speaker 4: think and only because of I knew my drive. When
- 10:40Speaker 4: I watch these other people, everyone doesn't have the same
- 10:42Speaker 4: passion and devotion.
- 10:44Speaker 5: You know, dedication to do these things.
- 10:46Speaker 4: So education is something to fall back on that could
- 10:51Speaker 4: at least get you into a stability from a lifestyle, right.
- 10:56Speaker 4: You know if you ask me, you know, people talk
- 10:58Speaker 4: to me all the time about that, and I'm like,
- 11:00Speaker 4: I didn't know what the hell I was gonna do.
- 11:02Speaker 4: I had no clue. I filled out to be a
- 11:05Speaker 4: sanitation transit police.
- 11:08Speaker 6: But no, no, but this is real.
- 11:09Speaker 2: This is these are real jobs, like especially like in
- 11:12Speaker 2: our community, Like a sanitation job is like hitting a
- 11:15Speaker 2: lottery right, Like.
- 11:16Speaker 5: Well, when you didn't go to school, this is what
- 11:18Speaker 5: you did exactly.
- 11:19Speaker 2: So I'm glad you said that because it's like, Okay,
- 11:21Speaker 2: you became a construction worker, right, but then.
- 11:24Speaker 5: A laborer at seven thirty one Local seven thirty.
- 11:28Speaker 2: You could have just called it a quits at that, right,
- 11:30Speaker 2: But what made you say, Okay, I learned construction from
- 11:33Speaker 2: working construction and turn it into a business.
- 11:36Speaker 4: I actually, at a very young age, I looked at
- 11:39Speaker 4: it as it's the trades.
- 11:42Speaker 5: I talked to other laborers.
- 11:44Speaker 4: And they was millionaires from being a laborer because that
- 11:48Speaker 4: annuity that they had they worked, yes they worked twenty
- 11:51Speaker 4: plus years, but they had an annuity in their union
- 11:54Speaker 4: that was over a million dollars. So I'm sitting there like, damn,
- 11:58Speaker 4: you could do this. You gotta shovel, that's all you
- 12:01Speaker 4: gotta know. You have over a million dollars waiting or
- 12:04Speaker 4: you could access whenever you want. And that was very
- 12:07Speaker 4: intriguing to me. And it was from a trade standpoint.
- 12:11Speaker 4: So all I did was say, let me learn these trades,
- 12:14Speaker 4: and it's something that they could never take away from you.
- 12:16Speaker 4: I always had a chip on my shoulder cause I
- 12:18Speaker 4: didn't go to school. I'm five years in high school, Okay,
- 12:22Speaker 4: So not because I didn't wasn't smartest because I didn't go.
- 12:26Speaker 4: I wasn't showing up. I just wouldn't go.
- 12:28Speaker 5: But I go in take a test, get seventy five,
- 12:30Speaker 5: eighty five, and be out. It's just who I was.
- 12:33Speaker 4: And it's like I always look at education is damn
- 12:37Speaker 4: what if I did do it? Or Okay, I don't
- 12:40Speaker 4: have it, what am I gonna do? Like what do
- 12:43Speaker 4: I have to fall back on? Like if I got
- 12:45Speaker 4: to support myself, my family, whatever it may be, without
- 12:48Speaker 4: an education to go get a job, because when you
- 12:51Speaker 4: really start going to get a job, you realize they
- 12:54Speaker 4: don't want you unless you have that piece of paper
- 12:58Speaker 4: or you have something behind you. Like you go out
- 13:00Speaker 4: just looking for jobs to pay for your life. There's
- 13:03Speaker 4: only a few things that I looked at that you
- 13:07Speaker 4: could actually make a really good living without the education. Again,
- 13:13Speaker 4: when you talk about police, you could do that with
- 13:15Speaker 4: those jobs.
- 13:16Speaker 6: Like a plumber.
- 13:17Speaker 5: Yeah, but a trade. Yeah.
- 13:19Speaker 3: That's one of the things we stress too, is like
- 13:21Speaker 3: everybody's not going to go to college.
- 13:22Speaker 5: We know that got to it's not for everybody.
- 13:25Speaker 3: So it wasn't for me teaching kids trades that they
- 13:27Speaker 3: can still have a successful life with. And that's the
- 13:31Speaker 3: thing that they don't show them. Man, like go to college,
- 13:33Speaker 3: go to college, get a four year degree. I'm an
- 13:35Speaker 3: education so like, yeah, that's a big proponent of it.
- 13:36Speaker 3: I'm like, like, I know kids that coming out of
- 13:38Speaker 3: high school, they're not going to college, so we got
- 13:40Speaker 3: to prepare them for other things like construction could be
- 13:43Speaker 3: something like where we're from, like we said, sanitation.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Is huge and look, everything insane.
- 13:48Speaker 4: It resonates with me so strongly because I always wanted
- 13:50Speaker 4: to empower my people, always talk to my block, telling
- 13:54Speaker 4: the kids what they should do don't do. And when
- 13:57Speaker 4: you think about from a work standpoint, again that construction,
- 14:02Speaker 4: it was.
- 14:03Speaker 5: A very good job for something you don't own.
- 14:08Speaker 4: From talking from a nine to five standpoint, you made
- 14:11Speaker 4: a very good wage and you could really grow it
- 14:14Speaker 4: if you want to, like we did. And that's what
- 14:17Speaker 4: I did, and again I recommend it still to this
- 14:19Speaker 4: day because you cannot take that skill set away. Someone
- 14:23Speaker 4: has to build these homes, someone has to build the roads,
- 14:25Speaker 4: the highways, and they get paid a very well, very
- 14:29Speaker 4: good wage.
- 14:30Speaker 6: But so you.
- 14:31Speaker 2: But but you was entrepreneurial enough to see the flip
- 14:34Speaker 2: side of the coin where it is a good job
- 14:36Speaker 2: to get paid, but the owner always makes more an employee.
- 14:39Speaker 2: No matter what business it is, NBA construction, the owners
- 14:44Speaker 2: always going to make more risks.
- 14:45Speaker 5: As the owner, you have the risk, you should get
- 14:47Speaker 5: the reward.
- 14:48Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 14:48Speaker 5: It's that simple.
- 14:49Speaker 4: You know, I'm for all the NBA players making as
- 14:53Speaker 4: much money, but the risk still lies with the owner, right.
- 14:57Speaker 2: So so because you had to start, I just thought
- 14:59Speaker 2: about this. You did a family business twice. You did
- 15:01Speaker 2: a family business with your sister. I think you did
- 15:03Speaker 2: a family business with your brother, right, So we talk
- 15:05Speaker 2: about that as well as far, especially in our community.
- 15:07Speaker 2: We don't understand the power of a working together enough,
- 15:10Speaker 2: but also the power of family businesses.
- 15:12Speaker 5: Right.
- 15:13Speaker 6: It's something that you.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Know, they say it's the hardest thing to do. Work
- 15:16Speaker 5: with family, Work with family, you know what. I think
- 15:19Speaker 5: that is very difficult. So I work, I work with
- 15:21Speaker 5: my family. I'm blessed. I think.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I think it depends on your family, right because I mean,
- 15:28Speaker 2: if you have a good relationship, If Jory that's my
- 15:30Speaker 2: that's my brother, we work together, it's no problem. But
- 15:34Speaker 2: if we have a bad relationship, then the business.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Is going to be bad. Took a different I think
- 15:40Speaker 5: I think just want of you hear on this mic
- 15:45Speaker 5: studio said that.
- 15:46Speaker 6: Let me actu you construction.
- 15:47Speaker 2: So because a lot of listeners everybody's not able to
- 15:51Speaker 2: make it the music, right, that's a fact, even though
- 15:54Speaker 2: a lot of people do want to make the music.
- 15:55Speaker 2: But anybody can be a carpenter, a construction worker, a plumber,
- 16:00Speaker 2: and anybody can own their own company.
- 16:01Speaker 5: Right.
- 16:02Speaker 2: So for somebody that's a construction worker or just interested
- 16:04Speaker 2: in being an entrepreneur, how did you how did you
- 16:07Speaker 2: get your own company? As far as the constructuse there's
- 16:10Speaker 2: a lot that goes into it, as far as in
- 16:11Speaker 2: New York.
- 16:11Speaker 4: City, and we wasn't doing like homes, like a local
- 16:15Speaker 4: construction company. I didn't start off there. I started write
- 16:18Speaker 4: off with city jobs which you had to bid on
- 16:21Speaker 4: and becoming honestly, that's my sister Teama worked in the
- 16:24Speaker 4: office of a company called Prew.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Construction, and she learned how the bids got put together.
- 16:33Speaker 4: She didn't know how many men it would take or
- 16:35Speaker 4: how to actually build the wall, but she knew exactly
- 16:38Speaker 4: how many screws pieces of rebard that went in the wall,
- 16:43Speaker 4: which is how you got to the formula to make
- 16:45Speaker 4: the bid. And then she also knew how which is
- 16:48Speaker 4: to me, the hardest part of the business to collect
- 16:51Speaker 4: to know how to do all the paperwork to get
- 16:54Speaker 4: to the city offices to make sure they pay you
- 16:56Speaker 4: when you finish a portion of the job, because you
- 16:59Speaker 4: got paid portion. And one day she just asked me,
- 17:03Speaker 4: can you put up a wall? And how many men
- 17:05Speaker 4: do you need? And I answered her and she was like, let's.
- 17:08Speaker 5: Start her own company.
- 17:10Speaker 3: And the audible thing is that you didn't just look
- 17:12Speaker 3: for anybody to hire, like, no, I.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Wasn't the community.
- 17:14Speaker 4: I went back to my people again and educate them,
- 17:17Speaker 4: taught them to trades, but they have to want it,
- 17:19Speaker 4: Like I can't give you that. You have to want
- 17:22Speaker 4: it they give you a job. I had to fire
- 17:23Speaker 4: a lot of guys too, you know, because they wasn't working.
- 17:27Speaker 4: This is business, so if you're not working, I got
- 17:29Speaker 4: someone else. And then you started realizing different differences, like
- 17:33Speaker 4: an older guy that might have kids is way more
- 17:35Speaker 4: reliable than that young guy that's ready to go party
- 17:38Speaker 4: every night. You know, you didn't think about those things
- 17:40Speaker 4: at that moment. Now you started looking at that. And
- 17:43Speaker 4: I would give the older guy the job before because
- 17:46Speaker 4: I knew he had to feed his family. I would
- 17:47Speaker 4: do things like that. But I really had an incredible
- 17:51Speaker 4: crew of an array of different people. I had just
- 17:54Speaker 4: two Italians, but the rest was all black or Spanish guys.
- 17:57Speaker 6: That were.
- 18:00Speaker 5: We was over forty two employees we had.
- 18:03Speaker 2: So how do you scale, like, because I mean, I
- 18:05Speaker 2: guess that's a lot of money to start a construction company, Like,
- 18:08Speaker 2: how do you scale?
- 18:09Speaker 4: Well, okay, so we was blessed right and we were
- 18:13Speaker 4: smart enough to get that deal done, which was the
- 18:16Speaker 4: fifty to fifty deal where they put up the bond
- 18:19Speaker 4: for the job, we have to bid the job, and
- 18:20Speaker 4: we won the first job. It was a Queen's Queen's
- 18:24Speaker 4: colding park in Queens. It was a job for about
- 18:28Speaker 4: a million dollars. It was about eight nine hundred thousand
- 18:31Speaker 4: and some change and we bid the job.
- 18:33Speaker 5: Want it.
- 18:34Speaker 4: So now we're funded because now we went to our
- 18:37Speaker 4: partner who's fifty to fifty partners on all the profit,
- 18:40Speaker 4: Ken Frolick, and we said we need this to start,
- 18:43Speaker 4: and we got funded and that's how we started. And
- 18:46Speaker 4: then after that we just started rolling it over.
- 18:48Speaker 5: Effect. Yeah, it just started rolling over. But you had
- 18:51Speaker 5: to watch your money. You know. Again, your typical profit.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Margins in the construction world is anywhere between twenty to
- 18:58Speaker 4: thirty thirty percent, So you know, you're talking about making
- 19:02Speaker 4: one hundred and eighty grand on that nine hundred thousand.
- 19:05Speaker 4: That's money that we never seen at that like in
- 19:07Speaker 4: one lump. But the problem was we had to partner
- 19:10Speaker 4: up with Kenny, so he's getting ninety of it, we're
- 19:13Speaker 4: getting ninety of it. And then we had to keep going.
- 19:15Speaker 4: So it got really hairy. But again, you know jay
- 19:19Speaker 4: Z said it, but we all say we never stopped.
- 19:21Speaker 4: You know, that was the genius part, right, We didn't quit.
- 19:24Speaker 4: We just kept going, and we kind of got to
- 19:27Speaker 4: a point where now, yeah, we had a lot of
- 19:29Speaker 4: money that was old, but we're making a lot of
- 19:31Speaker 4: money also, and it kind of started going and going.
- 19:34Speaker 6: So how long did it take to go from you
- 19:37Speaker 6: and your sister to forty employees?
- 19:40Speaker 5: H that was six years?
- 19:41Speaker 6: Six years?
- 19:42Speaker 3: Yeah, so at that time, at the height of this, right,
- 19:45Speaker 3: how much are we bringing it?
- 19:48Speaker 4: In the height our biggest job was forty almost forty
- 19:51Speaker 4: million dollars and again we was making a little bit
- 19:55Speaker 4: more than twenty five percent on the money.
- 19:59Speaker 5: So your millionaires. Yeah, this is this is in construction
- 20:02Speaker 5: thirteen and my sister was the first.
- 20:04Speaker 4: She was money bags. TEENA was the money bags. You
- 20:07Speaker 4: were thirty one you told me. Yeah, I was in
- 20:09Speaker 4: my I just got into my thirties when and then IRV,
- 20:14Speaker 4: So that transition was right there in that timeframe is.
- 20:17Speaker 5: After Mike Groanimo. This is during Mike Geronimo and we're
- 20:20Speaker 5: still going mid nineties. Yeah, mid nineties, so people might
- 20:24Speaker 5: not know who Mike Geronimo.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Blunt Records, TVT Blunt Records another you know label that
- 20:30Speaker 4: we started.
- 20:31Speaker 5: Before Murdering go YouTube, that independent Mike Geronimo. You know,
- 20:35Speaker 5: we started that and put him out.
- 20:36Speaker 4: We had cash money click over there, you got uh
- 20:40Speaker 4: pit Bull, We had Little John so you have Royal Flush.
- 20:45Speaker 4: These were all the artists that was on this little
- 20:47Speaker 4: independent label that we started moving with.
- 20:50Speaker 2: So all right, So okay, so now we're gonna go
- 20:52Speaker 2: into the music side, because your your life story is
- 20:55Speaker 2: pretty interesting. Where you you make You become a millionaire
- 20:59Speaker 2: at thirty one? Yeah, construction got a nice thing on
- 21:03Speaker 2: forty employees and you you give it up.
- 21:08Speaker 5: I didn't give it right up.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Okay again this goes back to education too, right, So
- 21:13Speaker 4: I didn't give it right up.
- 21:14Speaker 5: We did.
- 21:16Speaker 4: I did both because music was at night. IRV was like, yo,
- 21:20Speaker 4: he's growing, he needs help. Come back because I started
- 21:23Speaker 4: the music with her. I was managing him and he
- 21:27Speaker 4: had a group he was in and we was doing
- 21:29Speaker 4: a bunch of we wasn't making money. So now he's
- 21:31Speaker 4: making money after the mic g and then he gets
- 21:34Speaker 4: into death Jam and he's like, yo, come run his
- 21:37Speaker 4: production company top Dog Productions, not not uh top Dog with.
- 21:43Speaker 5: TV, not Kendrick.
- 21:44Speaker 4: He was first, you know what I'm saying, top Dog Productions,
- 21:48Speaker 4: and IRV just wanted to be the biggest and best
- 21:51Speaker 4: producer in the game.
- 21:53Speaker 5: And basically he's like, come run that and sell beats.
- 21:56Speaker 4: He had one producer, Little Rob, and I took a
- 21:59Speaker 4: Little Rob and sold every beat he would have. But
- 22:03Speaker 4: Little Rob wasn't a volume beat producer, like he would
- 22:07Speaker 4: make just a few. So but everything he made was fire.
- 22:11Speaker 4: I get it off. So I said, we got a problem.
- 22:13Speaker 4: We have an inventory problem.
- 22:16Speaker 5: I need more. So he's like, what are we gonna do?
- 22:18Speaker 4: I said, I'm gonna go hire producers, Okay, and that's
- 22:21Speaker 4: what I did.
- 22:22Speaker 6: All right?
- 22:22Speaker 5: All right?
- 22:23Speaker 2: So that leads us into segment two about the music business.
- 22:27Speaker 2: So we did the backstory, but now we're on going
- 22:30Speaker 2: to the music side, which you're probably most famous for
- 22:33Speaker 2: what people know you for the most all. Right, So
- 22:36Speaker 2: you start off selling earth Okay, So your brother V
- 22:39Speaker 2: becomes a producer, yes, and he's selling beats. Yes, and
- 22:43Speaker 2: he recruits you to help sell the beats for her, right.
- 22:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:46Speaker 4: He told me come run Top Dog Productions from manage
- 22:49Speaker 4: it and run it, you know. And that's what I did,
- 22:53Speaker 4: And I believe I did an incredible job.
- 22:56Speaker 5: When you start at that time, how much of beat's
- 22:58Speaker 5: going for He was making.
- 22:59Speaker 4: Five thousand when I first started at Top Dog, So
- 23:03Speaker 4: you know we were selling to like the lower tier
- 23:06Speaker 4: artist five thousand songs.
- 23:07Speaker 6: And you scaled that.
- 23:08Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I scaled it. I wrapped that up.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Here's why I'm making money from construction, and I'm burning
- 23:15Speaker 4: it at both ends.
- 23:16Speaker 5: So I'm going to the studio at nights, construction in
- 23:18Speaker 5: the daytime.
- 23:19Speaker 6: You're still doing it. Construction still doing it.
- 23:21Speaker 4: When I first go over, I couldn't just stop because
- 23:23Speaker 4: it's it's a business, it's financially and I did it
- 23:26Speaker 4: for about a year and a half, two ends, burning
- 23:28Speaker 4: at both ends before I said I can't do it
- 23:30Speaker 4: no more. But I took him from five thousand and
- 23:33Speaker 4: fifty thousand and six months.
- 23:36Speaker 5: And then little Rob.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Who's the producer. He was our main producer at the time. Again,
- 23:40Speaker 4: he would make just enough beats, not a lot. I
- 23:43Speaker 4: didn't have extra inventory. I always like to talk to it,
- 23:46Speaker 4: talk to you people in the music industry, just like
- 23:49Speaker 4: his business, because it is. I don't want to treat
- 23:52Speaker 4: it like it's just beats. No, this was our inventory.
- 23:55Speaker 4: The beats is our inventory, and we didn't have anymore.
- 23:57Speaker 4: I sell it out. How can I make money? So
- 24:00Speaker 4: then I went in and started assembling that production team
- 24:04Speaker 4: and I found some incredible producers. Chinck Santana, you know
- 24:08Speaker 4: what I'm saying. Monster from DC, I bought his first
- 24:11Speaker 4: beat for I asked him. It was a great story
- 24:14Speaker 4: because I asked him. I said, he's in my office
- 24:16Speaker 4: and I brought him because Pop, this other artist from
- 24:18Speaker 4: DC came in and I was like, who's the beats
- 24:21Speaker 4: of those? And he was like, oh, it's Chink. So
- 24:23Speaker 4: I said, next time you come back, bring him. So
- 24:25Speaker 4: he brings them and we're going through music and I said,
- 24:27Speaker 4: you ever sold a beat?
- 24:28Speaker 5: He said, no, Joe, you know that all that Joe?
- 24:31Speaker 5: Well that DC. No Joe.
- 24:33Speaker 4: I said, okay, so how much would you want for
- 24:36Speaker 4: a beat. He's looking He's like, I don't even know Joe.
- 24:38Speaker 4: He's like, I was like, what do you think? He's
- 24:41Speaker 4: like five hundred dollars. I said, I'm gonna tell you
- 24:44Speaker 4: what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna buy that first beat
- 24:46Speaker 4: from you for seventy five hundred, and I cut a
- 24:49Speaker 4: check for the first half. I said, when I sell it,
- 24:51Speaker 4: because I don't have a home for it, I'll give.
- 24:54Speaker 5: You the other half. I said, thirty seven fifty. Win
- 24:56Speaker 5: gave him a check that day, thirty seven to fifty.
- 24:59Speaker 5: He looked at me. He going crazy. Hey, Joe, I
- 25:02Speaker 5: never saw you know. He was going crazy.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Because you could have been like y'all had five hundred soul.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I wouldn't do that because I know what our value is. So,
- 25:11Speaker 3: I mean, I didn't want I wanted to keep him
- 25:13Speaker 3: in the same neighborhood. But again I'm like, here you go.
- 25:16Speaker 3: And then I said, but I want to sign you
- 25:18Speaker 3: to the top Dog.
- 25:20Speaker 5: He said.
- 25:21Speaker 4: He looked at the chack. He was basically like, whatever
- 25:24Speaker 4: you want to do. He said, you could do this
- 25:27Speaker 4: for me. I said, yeah, I could do this for you,
- 25:28Speaker 4: and sure enough, when he came in, it really changed
- 25:31Speaker 4: everything because he was a volume.
- 25:32Speaker 5: He made a lot of inventory. So where y'all had
- 25:35Speaker 5: death Jam when y'all got him or.
- 25:39Speaker 4: No was was an A and R. A death jam
- 25:42Speaker 4: was an an R a death jam. So that's what
- 25:44Speaker 4: so basically think about it from that standpoint. I'm making
- 25:47Speaker 4: music as a producer and I have all this music
- 25:51Speaker 4: and we're inside of a system, which is death Cham service. Yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 4: so we just started serving beats. And then once you
- 25:58Speaker 4: do one, the industry a following industry. Just like everything else.
- 26:02Speaker 4: We make a hat, a hot hat, everyone makes that
- 26:05Speaker 4: hat with their logo on it.
- 26:07Speaker 5: So music's no different.
- 26:08Speaker 4: You make a hot beat and everyone wants a beat,
- 26:10Speaker 4: just like that record you just did. So we started
- 26:13Speaker 4: getting calls from not just Depth Jam but every record label.
- 26:17Speaker 4: But I got a service on. I need inventory, so
- 26:19Speaker 4: I started hiring more beats like a.
- 26:21Speaker 5: Red you know DL.
- 26:23Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, fingers styles and we man
- 26:27Speaker 4: went on a run and we went from five thousand.
- 26:30Speaker 5: I just started pushing the tracks the money.
- 26:33Speaker 4: I remember to day, I'll give you a good story.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Electro Records ODB, they want beats for ODIB. Sylvia Rohn
- 26:42Speaker 4: was running Electro Records. She calls me to come in
- 26:46Speaker 4: and talk to hers. I said, I want to sell
- 26:48Speaker 4: some beats to ODIB. She said, all right, I do four.
- 26:51Speaker 4: How much? At the time, we was only getting twenty
- 26:54Speaker 4: thousand a track And I said, forty thousand the track
- 26:59Speaker 4: and she said, no to check.
- 27:00Speaker 5: I'll cut the check and get it to you.
- 27:02Speaker 4: So that's first half is eighty thousand. So I'm happy.
- 27:06Speaker 4: I just doubled our value. I'm like great, I go yo,
- 27:09Speaker 4: I sold four beasts to odb IRBs like how much?
- 27:12Speaker 5: You know? IRV is always about the bottom line? How much?
- 27:15Speaker 5: And I was like, I show him the check and
- 27:17Speaker 5: he goes crazy. That's all. That's how. That's how a price.
- 27:20Speaker 5: We ain't going no long, I said, I know, I
- 27:22Speaker 5: got you. Yeah, forty thousands of track.
- 27:24Speaker 4: But we went from forty to fifty to seventy five
- 27:27Speaker 4: to one hundred in less than a year.
- 27:29Speaker 6: What's the highest you got up to two hundred and.
- 27:31Speaker 4: Fifty thousand a song? And we was taking six points
- 27:34Speaker 4: on each song. Okay, so a single, if you make
- 27:39Speaker 4: one single, there's ten points on that single. Five points
- 27:43Speaker 4: goes to the producer, five points goes to the writer,
- 27:46Speaker 4: we was taking six, which means the writer of the
- 27:48Speaker 4: record had to give us an extra point from their side,
- 27:51Speaker 4: from their share.
- 27:52Speaker 5: It's one hundred points for total now for an album
- 27:55Speaker 5: one album, right.
- 27:55Speaker 3: And that's just because of the track work that y'all have. Yeah,
- 27:59Speaker 3: because you want work. We know what'll we know what
- 28:01Speaker 3: y'all bringing.
- 28:02Speaker 4: Well, you know it's just being aggressive, you know what,
- 28:05Speaker 4: that's the key. You know, when you're hot in music,
- 28:07Speaker 4: you could get very aggressive. I was very aggressive and
- 28:11Speaker 4: IRV is super aggressive. So you know when I say
- 28:14Speaker 4: that is because he's pushing me, like go more and more,
- 28:17Speaker 4: and that's what we just kept pushing it up.
- 28:19Speaker 2: This is interesting because even outside of music, people struggle
- 28:22Speaker 2: with this all the time.
- 28:23Speaker 6: How how much do you charge for your services?
- 28:25Speaker 2: Right?
- 28:25Speaker 6: There's something especially entrepreneurs, they struggle with this all the time.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Know your value or your worth?
- 28:29Speaker 2: And I heard Gary V say something before where he
- 28:32Speaker 2: was like, if people aren't telling you no, you're too cheap,
- 28:37Speaker 2: like you gotta so how do you It's a thin line, right,
- 28:40Speaker 2: just general advice, business and wits. How do you know.
- 28:44Speaker 5: What to charge?
- 28:45Speaker 6: You know what I mean?
- 28:46Speaker 5: Like, how do you say, Okay, I'm gonna go from
- 28:47Speaker 5: twenty dollars art. Okay, if it's all based on success,
- 28:51Speaker 5: you can't charge two hundred and fifty thousand dollars and
- 28:54Speaker 5: you're giving trash away and the records don't do anything
- 28:56Speaker 5: for the label or the artist. But when you see
- 28:59Speaker 5: the result, right, Okay, we could talk now.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Because I know how much you generated, you put I
- 29:05Speaker 4: know what my record generated for your artists and what
- 29:08Speaker 4: that means to your label, and that's how we equate value, right.
- 29:12Speaker 5: And again, don't get it confused.
- 29:15Speaker 4: The money we was talking the two hundred and fifty
- 29:18Speaker 4: thousand isn't advanced.
- 29:20Speaker 5: We didn't make an extra dollar.
- 29:22Speaker 4: If we took zero, we still make that two hundred
- 29:25Speaker 4: and fifty gets paid faster. That's all. It's the same
- 29:28Speaker 4: exact amount of money we generated for every record. Do
- 29:32Speaker 4: you understand? But it's like, can you break that down?
- 29:34Speaker 5: Okay?
- 29:34Speaker 4: So if a record generates a million dollars, okay, and
- 29:38Speaker 4: we was advanced two hundred and fifty thousand, we only
- 29:41Speaker 4: getting seven hundred and fifty thousand or for the million,
- 29:44Speaker 4: that's all. It's an advance as simple as that. You
- 29:47Speaker 4: do not make an extra dollar because you was advanced.
- 29:50Speaker 5: But where the record flops.
- 29:52Speaker 4: Okay, whatever the record makes, that's where the risk and
- 29:55Speaker 4: that's why we took and that's why you took in
- 29:58Speaker 4: advance as.
- 29:58Speaker 5: A producer, right, So as a producer, you know you.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Understood the value of that music if it's successful in
- 30:09Speaker 4: their track record, you know, potentially being why that record
- 30:12Speaker 4: is gonna be successful for an artist you have.
- 30:15Speaker 5: No equity interest in.
- 30:17Speaker 4: But you say, hey, advance me this type of advance
- 30:20Speaker 4: on that money two hundred and fifty thousand, because you're
- 30:23Speaker 4: gonna make millions of dollars and you could. Again, they
- 30:26Speaker 4: don't lose any extra Money's all I'm saying. It's just
- 30:29Speaker 4: an advance, is all it is. It's an advance on
- 30:31Speaker 4: the future earnings of that record record, That's all it is.
- 30:34Speaker 4: So again, doctor D was getting two hundred and fifty thousand.
- 30:38Speaker 6: Getting a million.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Somebody who's the highest peg I heard.
- 30:43Speaker 4: And I know I know for a fact Rodney Jerkins. Okay,
- 30:48Speaker 4: when he was when he was producing for Michael Jackson
- 30:51Speaker 4: was getting paid a lot of He's getting paid millions
- 30:53Speaker 4: of dollars, but there's no return. Michael basically was owning
- 30:59Speaker 4: the record, right, so his he was paying in advance
- 31:03Speaker 4: on all his publishing and everything. Because it's Michael Jackson.
- 31:06Speaker 4: He's gonna sell fifty records. That record is gonna be
- 31:11Speaker 4: worth well more than what he paid you. But Rodney
- 31:13Speaker 4: was really getting paid at that time. Man, he was
- 31:16Speaker 4: out in Jersey killing. Shout out to Rodney Jerseys legend.
- 31:21Speaker 4: It's all right, So all right, so you guys have
- 31:25Speaker 4: a team of producers. Yeah, and you're tearing the game
- 31:27Speaker 4: up right, Yes, but then you transition into a label, right.
- 31:33Speaker 5: Yes, with that by design?
- 31:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember you telling me when we was in
- 31:38Speaker 2: the studio that, like even DMX, right, like you originally
- 31:43Speaker 2: your brother brought DMX.
- 31:45Speaker 5: Yeah, he brought depth Jam.
- 31:48Speaker 4: But just think when you mentioned Blunt Records earlier, he
- 31:50Speaker 4: brought him the Blunt Records.
- 31:52Speaker 6: Uh.
- 31:53Speaker 4: DMX could easily have been signed to Blunt Records, but
- 31:56Speaker 4: we didn't do the deal because we didn't think Blunt
- 31:59Speaker 4: had enough power as an independent to move the product
- 32:03Speaker 4: the way he needed to be more.
- 32:04Speaker 3: Because I remember the original Murder Inc. Being not a
- 32:08Speaker 3: label but being a group with jay Z, d MX
- 32:11Speaker 3: and jo Rule.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Right, that's Irv's original concept what he wanted to do.
- 32:16Speaker 4: He thought they was absolutely the best. People don't realize
- 32:18Speaker 4: that Jay z DMX. But the one they don't realize
- 32:22Speaker 4: is joh Rule was a battle rapper. We used to
- 32:25Speaker 4: battle Rule against everybody. So IRV just felt he had
- 32:30Speaker 4: the most talented artists at that time and wanted to
- 32:35Speaker 4: create this supergroup called murder Ring.
- 32:37Speaker 3: I had that double Excel cover was on my wall
- 32:40Speaker 3: for at least five years. You know, we was this
- 32:42Speaker 3: close to so they had to handle They had the bad.
- 32:49Speaker 5: That was a great cover.
- 32:51Speaker 4: You see their face, but in the back of the
- 32:53Speaker 4: cover of that, you see the bats the change.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Let me ask you this, right, you guys, you didn't
- 32:59Speaker 2: go to college, right, No, you had a background in
- 33:01Speaker 2: business because you had a construction company, so you understood
- 33:04Speaker 2: business on that.
- 33:06Speaker 5: Didn't go to school either, So but how do you all, right,
- 33:09Speaker 5: how do you start?
- 33:10Speaker 2: You started a record label, but you don't know anything
- 33:12Speaker 2: about how to run a business?
- 33:14Speaker 5: On you do? But no, no, no, no, I have
- 33:16Speaker 5: no clue.
- 33:17Speaker 6: How do you figure that out?
- 33:18Speaker 5: How to run?
- 33:19Speaker 6: How do you?
- 33:19Speaker 4: Just like I did in construction sit with lawyers, I
- 33:23Speaker 4: asked a ton of questions, you know, I you know,
- 33:27Speaker 4: don't be afraid to ask or think you something stupid.
- 33:30Speaker 5: You're gonna learn, but you learned the hard way to write.
- 33:34Speaker 4: You know, your best education is because you lose, right,
- 33:38Speaker 4: I don't get. We lost a ton of money because
- 33:41Speaker 4: of lawyers that took advantage that you're thinking they're doing
- 33:46Speaker 4: the right deal for you, and they're not lawyers. I
- 33:49Speaker 4: fired all of the best lawyers you could think of it.
- 33:51Speaker 5: They all worked for me. I fired them all. They're
- 33:53Speaker 5: all in.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Bed with the labels. You gotta see, we didn't know that.
- 33:57Speaker 4: These are all the things you learned in hindsight, you know.
- 34:02Speaker 4: But they're all in bed with the label.
- 34:03Speaker 5: So how can I get what I want from the label?
- 34:05Speaker 4: And they're busy giving up all the information to the
- 34:08Speaker 4: label and blocking me every chance I get. And uh,
- 34:12Speaker 4: that's what happened. My best deals happened because I hired.
- 34:16Speaker 4: I took the Sugar Sugar Night route, irving myself. We
- 34:20Speaker 4: discussed and decided we want the Sugar Knight rowdies. One
- 34:24Speaker 4: lawyer only works for you, nobody else.
- 34:28Speaker 6: You are his only client.
- 34:29Speaker 4: Ron Sweeney took him from Sony Ron Sweeney and Brian
- 34:32Speaker 4: Robinson a salary in points or profit.
- 34:38Speaker 5: Okay, which is way more than what he was getting.
- 34:40Speaker 2: So that's kind of what but it's way cheaper for us,
- 34:44Speaker 2: how about that? Yeah, No, it's becacause we get better deals. Now, Yeah,
- 34:48Speaker 2: you understand what I'm saying. You gotta give up something
- 34:50Speaker 2: to get.
- 34:51Speaker 6: Something, and you gotta spend money to make money.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Yeah, people, I said, I'm glad you brought that up,
- 34:56Speaker 2: because people do all the time in business where they
- 34:58Speaker 2: they skim on important right, Yeah, and that's something that's important, right,
- 35:03Speaker 2: So you want to spend money on something that's important, because,
- 35:06Speaker 2: like you said, you spent more money on an in
- 35:09Speaker 2: house lawyer, but it saved you a lot of money.
- 35:12Speaker 4: So I just had this conversation last night in the
- 35:14Speaker 4: studio with someone that wants me to be their consultant.
- 35:18Speaker 4: And the first question I asked him was why would
- 35:20Speaker 4: you pay me to be a consultant? What's your reason?
- 35:22Speaker 4: I want to hear your reason. He didn't have an answer.
- 35:25Speaker 4: He didn't even know. He's like, I know you know
- 35:27Speaker 4: the business, But I said, what's the reasons? Yeah, there's
- 35:29Speaker 4: a lot of people to know the business. Why do
- 35:31Speaker 4: you want me? Why do you want someone to consult you?
- 35:34Speaker 4: What's the reason why? And I said, if you're not
- 35:36Speaker 4: understanding that you're not thinking properly. Like the reason you
- 35:40Speaker 4: pay consultant is to save money because you won't make
- 35:42Speaker 4: a mistake that you might cost you a lot of money.
- 35:46Speaker 4: And that's basically what the reason that we went with
- 35:49Speaker 4: Ron Swiney. He was he was the head of business
- 35:53Speaker 4: affairs for Sony Music, which means he was the head
- 35:56Speaker 4: attorney for every business deal at Sony, which means he
- 36:00Speaker 4: knows where all the bones is buried, you understand. He
- 36:03Speaker 4: knows how all the contracts, where they jerk you, where
- 36:06Speaker 4: the money is That he when he came in, And
- 36:09Speaker 4: same with Brian Robinson. Brian Robinson was over Universal and
- 36:14Speaker 4: we took him. So we had those two as our
- 36:16Speaker 4: only terms. They couldn't work for no one else, They
- 36:20Speaker 4: only could work for us, and they got points on
- 36:22Speaker 4: the profits all right.
- 36:24Speaker 2: So we realized that, you know a lot of people
- 36:26Speaker 2: might not know what you went through, right, So it's.
- 36:31Speaker 5: A business could Also a good thing.
- 36:33Speaker 2: About the story too for the podcast is that we
- 36:35Speaker 2: like to paint the real picture of business.
- 36:37Speaker 6: Right.
- 36:37Speaker 2: It's never all good in business. So you guys experienced.
- 36:41Speaker 7: And the decisions you have to make in business, you
- 36:44Speaker 7: guys experienced the top of the top where you was
- 36:46Speaker 7: on top of the world selling beat for two point
- 36:48Speaker 7: fifty he was on the number one on for forty
- 36:51Speaker 7: eight weeks.
- 36:52Speaker 6: It was just unstoppable. What's you calling the unstoppable bird
- 36:59Speaker 6: something like.
- 37:00Speaker 2: So murder Ink was untouchable, the untouchable murder Ink. Right,
- 37:04Speaker 2: So all right, we got up. We gotta talk about
- 37:07Speaker 2: Jay Prince. He put this in his book. So this
- 37:08Speaker 2: is public knowledge. He put this in his book. So
- 37:10Speaker 2: shout out to Houston, my man, dog key, if you're listening,
- 37:13Speaker 2: that's my guy. We connected on Instagram. Dripped up and
- 37:16Speaker 2: drake down. We gotta go to Houston. We got I'm
- 37:18Speaker 2: gonna get Jay Prince on this.
- 37:19Speaker 5: Then that's a fact.
- 37:20Speaker 6: That's a fact. We got to hear it, Prince. We
- 37:22Speaker 6: need you, man, that's a fact. That's a fact. Shout
- 37:24Speaker 6: out to h town.
- 37:25Speaker 5: Man.
- 37:26Speaker 2: So Jay Prince told the story about how he met
- 37:29Speaker 2: you in his book, right can you story?
- 37:34Speaker 5: He loved me to tell that story to you always
- 37:36Speaker 5: whenever we went around new people.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Chris, come on, tell tell every tell him how we met.
- 37:40Speaker 4: But you know it wasn't on good terms. And you
- 37:44Speaker 4: know his legend and his name and reputation proceeds him.
- 37:47Speaker 4: So when I had found out, IRV calls me and says, seven,
- 37:53Speaker 4: we signed to Jay Prince.
- 37:54Speaker 5: That's one of your producers.
- 37:55Speaker 4: At the time he was about he was one of
- 37:57Speaker 4: our main producers and made a lot of records, made
- 38:02Speaker 4: a lot of money, and J Prince was basically claiming
- 38:06Speaker 4: all the money he made and generated because seven said
- 38:08Speaker 4: that's his money.
- 38:10Speaker 5: So if he signed a J.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Prince, He's like, collect that money and then we'll do
- 38:15Speaker 4: whatever my ideal says, like.
- 38:18Speaker 5: Earners, what's up.

- 40:12Speaker 9: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 40:16Speaker 9: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 40:20Speaker 9: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 40:24Speaker 9: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 40:28Speaker 9: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy Noman, the United States
- 40:32Speaker 9: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 40:36Speaker 9: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 40:40Speaker 9: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 40:43Speaker 9: are here illegally, your next you will be fined nearly
- 40:47Speaker 9: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned, and deported. You will

- 41:06Speaker 5: Sponsored by the United States de Partment of Homeland Security.
- 41:08Speaker 5: Get I'll take from there. So so.
- 41:13Speaker 4: Jay reaches out and IRV tells me, you know, you
- 41:16Speaker 4: got to go to Houston to deal with Jay Prince.
- 41:19Speaker 4: I'm like, great, you know, gre thanks thanks brother, thanks, sir,
- 41:25Speaker 4: good look good looking. But you know I'm indulgent. So
- 41:29Speaker 4: at the end of the day, no problem. At the time,
- 41:32Speaker 4: Print was home, Yeah, shout out of Supreme, hold your head.
- 41:37Speaker 5: Brother. At the end of the day, Supreme is home.
- 41:39Speaker 4: And he was at Beaumont, Texas, going to see his
- 41:42Speaker 4: nephew Prince, and he was coming from there out there,
- 41:48Speaker 4: and he calls me and tells, I mean I called
- 41:50Speaker 4: him and tell him I'm going to Houston. Meet me
- 41:52Speaker 4: in Houston. He says, no problem. Then I called one
- 41:54Speaker 4: of my other brothers out there in Houston. Black We
- 41:57Speaker 4: called him b One. So I called b Be Ones
- 42:00Speaker 4: about that life. So I was like, Yo, donna come
- 42:02Speaker 4: to Houston. I got a problem out there. He said,
- 42:05Speaker 4: whatever you need, I got you. So I get out there.
- 42:08Speaker 4: He's like, what's happened. He comes picks me in preem
- 42:10Speaker 4: up and he's like, what's happening. I said, Man, who's
- 42:12Speaker 4: this j Prince guy? I got a problem And he said, oh, man,
- 42:15Speaker 4: I can't do nothing. He's like, that's the big homie.
- 42:18Speaker 4: Man can help him. So, you know, keep it moving.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Everyone told me don't go to his ranch. Jay says,
- 42:26Speaker 4: he calls me up while I'm in Houston. He says, hey,
- 42:28Speaker 4: come meet.
- 42:29Speaker 5: Me at my red And I'm like, he has a ranch.
- 42:33Speaker 5: He has a ranch. He's a real cowboy, like he's
- 42:35Speaker 5: he's a country boy man.
- 42:37Speaker 4: You know.
- 42:38Speaker 5: He's the biggest provider of Hey.
- 42:40Speaker 6: Yeah, he said that Black Angus beef.
- 42:43Speaker 4: Yeah. People don't know he's a mobile and he's a
- 42:46Speaker 4: real mobile. But he's the biggest real estate owner in Houston. Yeah,
- 42:51Speaker 4: he's someone you should talk to. He bought his whole hood.
- 42:53Speaker 4: Fifth Water is his Jay Prince, you know what. So
- 42:56Speaker 4: at the end of the day, they tell me I
- 42:58Speaker 4: got to go to this ranch to meet him. I said,
- 43:01Speaker 4: all right. So he sends two cars, two SUVs for Jay.
- 43:04Speaker 4: It was all presentation. See I know this in hindsight
- 43:07Speaker 4: now that I'm with that's my brothers. But in the beginning,
- 43:10Speaker 4: I'm thinking this is some bullshit, Like he sends two cars,
- 43:14Speaker 4: two people in one four and another and me and
- 43:17Speaker 4: Preem and Black Black is like, I'm gonna come with
- 43:19Speaker 4: you in case some goes, I try and diffuse it
- 43:21Speaker 4: and stop it. So I was like, all right, bet,
- 43:24Speaker 4: so we drive again. I just want to give the
- 43:27Speaker 4: list the viewers of the vision. When you get to
- 43:30Speaker 4: this part. We drove for about an hour from where
- 43:32Speaker 4: we was at. Then we get to this one part
- 43:34Speaker 4: and it says James Prince estates and we see it's
- 43:39Speaker 4: like a billboard and we say, okay, make the right turn.
- 43:43Speaker 4: And we drove another twenty minutes from the gate from
- 43:47Speaker 4: that corner to get to the middle of the gate.
- 43:51Speaker 4: That's how far how much land he has, like and
- 43:54Speaker 4: then two more SUVs come down like this path, like
- 43:57Speaker 4: dirt path. You see the cloud of smoking. Me and
- 44:00Speaker 4: Primus looking at each other like yo.
- 44:02Speaker 5: It was nice. No more no.
- 44:03Speaker 4: He was like, yo, it's nice, no you yo, But
- 44:06Speaker 4: we're gonna take some Jews with us, like we ain't
- 44:08Speaker 4: going out alone, man. So they come four more in
- 44:12Speaker 4: each of those vis We go up to the ranch,
- 44:15Speaker 4: and when we walk in the ranch, it was like
- 44:18Speaker 4: the yard. It was like you rightas island in the
- 44:21Speaker 4: yard or somewhere. I mean, it was about sixty seventy
- 44:25Speaker 4: dudes all over the house. And I'm like, what the
- 44:29Speaker 4: Me and Primum is looking at each other like yo,
- 44:32Speaker 4: they gonna kill us. So I'm getting frustrated because he
- 44:38Speaker 4: didn't come right out like you know, we here where
- 44:41Speaker 4: you're at him? And again we're only fifteen minutes. He
- 44:44Speaker 4: maybe twenty minutes the most. So I'm getting frustrated. I'm like, yo,
- 44:47Speaker 4: where's Jae?
- 44:47Speaker 5: Who's j Prince?
- 44:48Speaker 4: Which I don't even know what he looks like like
- 44:50Speaker 4: at that time, I didn't even know what the man
- 44:52Speaker 4: looks like.
- 44:53Speaker 5: I don't you hear his name and the legend of him.
- 44:56Speaker 4: I'm thinking it's gonna be this six' four like dude come,
- 44:59Speaker 4: out and then this little dude comes out in the.
- 45:02Speaker 4: Back he, Says, hey which one of y'all? Kids AND
- 45:05Speaker 4: i said that's. Me he, said, yeah come, on let's go.
- 45:08Speaker 4: Talk I'm jay in my, Head i'm, like.
- 45:11Speaker 5: This is what this is all.
- 45:12Speaker 4: About, yeah j love it WHEN i tell it because
- 45:17Speaker 4: but it's. REAL i promise you it's.
- 45:19Speaker 5: Real. NOW i kept my, AGAIN i just kept my.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Composure But i'm feeling the pressure of the room and
- 45:26Speaker 4: all the dudes in just the. Environment then When i'm
- 45:29Speaker 4: walking to the back with, him you see all the stuffed.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Animals it's not, like not like the ones you want
- 45:35Speaker 4: from the fucking. Carnival no real fucking animals that stuff and,
- 45:40Speaker 4: everything and.
- 45:41Speaker 5: It's, like so he's a you can see he's a.
- 45:43Speaker 5: Hunter he's been. Hunting, yeah he's a.
- 45:45Speaker 4: Hunter and then it's you, know all the hedges on the,
- 45:47Speaker 4: wall and then you go to his desk and right
- 45:49Speaker 4: behind his desk it's all the assault.
- 45:52Speaker 5: Rifle And i'm, like oh, man this is. Crazy you
- 45:58Speaker 5: know What i'm.
- 45:58Speaker 4: Saying and then he wants to talk about twenty eight
- 46:00Speaker 4: million dollars that's old to seven and he wants all
- 46:03Speaker 4: of that Because seven told him that's all his, money
- 46:05Speaker 4: to WHICH i, said not a. Chance and you, know
- 46:11Speaker 4: the MORE i Know, jay the MORE i understand the,
- 46:13Speaker 4: move because the move was really he's going by With
- 46:15Speaker 4: seven told.
- 46:15Speaker 6: Him but he's a.
- 46:19Speaker 4: He's a man of his, word so if you say
- 46:21Speaker 4: something to, him he's gonna make you honor your. Word
- 46:25Speaker 4: so WHEN i told him that's not, It i'm, like,
- 46:27Speaker 4: nah he can't get all of. That as we gave
- 46:30Speaker 4: him half earth as the other half as the, producer
- 46:33Speaker 4: and that's. IT i, said he doesn't know Jay, z
- 46:35Speaker 4: he doesn't know J, Lo Mariah, carry you Know MARY J.
- 46:39Speaker 5: Blige we. Do AND i, said that's my. Money that's
- 46:42Speaker 5: basically WHAT i told. YOU i, SAID i don't care
- 46:44Speaker 5: what the Fuck sev told. You that's our. Money he said,
- 46:48Speaker 5: okay and that was really.
- 46:51Speaker 4: The end of the meeting, again and then he we
- 46:53Speaker 4: went on after, that became really good, friends and things
- 46:58Speaker 4: happened that made us get rid, close you know What i'm.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Saying but it was a great way like His AND
- 47:04Speaker 4: i told him his image precedes. Him SO i told
- 47:07Speaker 4: him the more he talks or the less he, talks the,
- 47:10Speaker 4: bigger you, know that legend. Grows SO i always tell,
- 47:14Speaker 4: him why don't get in too much line.
- 47:15Speaker 5: Light you.
- 47:16Speaker 4: Know he put the book, out you know What i'm,
- 47:18Speaker 4: saying and the book did, great and it looked like
- 47:21Speaker 4: he was a president if you followed him on the
- 47:23Speaker 4: ground because he was in so many places the campaign

- 49:13Speaker 2: just start catching fake cases and all.
- 49:15Speaker 6: That and, Yes so then that leads to the.
- 49:18Speaker 5: COINCIDENCE i don't think so channel that you guys are gonna.
- 49:24Speaker 4: Start, yeah we wanted to be a major distribution, company
- 49:27Speaker 4: just like A, universal and we was gonna cut deals

- 49:45Speaker 5: sugar hold your, head good dude for.
- 49:47Speaker 4: Me. Yes but we had a we had an ups
- 49:49Speaker 4: and downs, too and but predator is one thing they
- 49:52Speaker 4: respect is that you, know if you stand your, ground
- 49:55Speaker 4: they respect. That if you, don't if you show the,
- 49:58Speaker 4: weakness they're gonna take what you. Got they're gonna eat your.
- 50:00Speaker 4: Full AND i learned that early from my. Days so
- 50:04Speaker 4: WHEN i had to deal With, JAY i UNDERSTOOD i
- 50:05Speaker 4: couldn't show that and and just like With, SUGAR i
- 50:08Speaker 4: couldn't show, it so but it all turned.
- 50:10Speaker 3: You, know for, us it was those are all great,
- 50:12Speaker 3: races probably the reason why they said we could work with.
- 50:14Speaker 3: That so With sugar ideas Absolutely sugar was putting it.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Together And jay again is a very a super brilliant.
- 50:22Speaker 4: Man i'm not shading him at all because he is
- 50:24Speaker 4: a genius in his own right from a business.
- 50:26Speaker 5: Accliment, also he's very.
- 50:29Speaker 4: Methodical he's a chess like everyone moves, differently you see
- 50:33Speaker 4: how they. Move he's a chess. Player he doesn't speak,
- 50:35Speaker 4: much you. Know And irv's vision, creative you, know on,
- 50:41Speaker 4: business and that's where we was coming. Together and When
- 50:43Speaker 4: sugar was saying the place we envisioned it and seen
- 50:46Speaker 4: that it could really, work and we was, like, wow
- 50:49Speaker 4: this is. Amazing and then all of a, sudden this,
- 50:52Speaker 4: indictment that, indictment you, Know and LIKE i, SAID i
- 50:56Speaker 4: don't think that was. COINCIDENTAL i thought The feds really
- 50:59Speaker 4: wanted to learn about the hip hop. Culture and what
- 51:02Speaker 4: better way to go at it than, go, oh these
- 51:05Speaker 4: three are getting, together let's try and chase someone down
- 51:07Speaker 4: and shake this tree and.
- 51:08Speaker 5: See what comes.
- 51:09Speaker 4: Out Sam Sam cook actually was trying to do, Something Sam,
- 51:11Speaker 4: cook that's, right and then they think he's the reason they.
- 51:14Speaker 5: Got, here got killed, right like he was seriously gets
- 51:16Speaker 5: killed by some random.
- 51:17Speaker 11: Woman you, KNOW i hate conspiracy, theories but it's hard
- 51:22Speaker 11: to some of. These it's hard to deny certain, things
- 51:25Speaker 11: is What i'm. SAYING i hate it BECAUSE i like, proof,
- 51:28Speaker 11: RIGHT i like to know. FACTS i don't like to
- 51:30Speaker 11: talk on. SPECULATION i like to know what's really. Real
- 51:35Speaker 11: and that's WHAT i. Mean but there's so many.
- 51:37Speaker 4: Factors even when you talk about let's say like holistic
- 51:40Speaker 4: doctors and then all of a, sudden all these random
- 51:43Speaker 4: doctors that got killed it's like or, disappeared.
- 51:48Speaker 5: Doctor.
- 51:49Speaker 4: Sevy there has to be some type of connection that
- 51:51Speaker 4: correlates to these. Deaths so it's, like, so, yeah there's
- 51:54Speaker 4: a conspiracy, theory but there's a lot of facts.
- 51:57Speaker 5: Too.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Man so all, right so you guys caught the that.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Case so The, feds if anybody's not, FAMILIAR.
- 52:03Speaker 5: I don't know how we caught a fair. Case but
- 52:05Speaker 5: you know that's another.
- 52:06Speaker 6: Story, yeah The.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Feds the conviction rate is ninety seven. Percent you don't
- 52:09Speaker 2: beat the. Fedes it's almost. Impossible to beat the feds
- 52:11Speaker 2: because they put so much pressure on. You they strutsch
- 52:13Speaker 2: the cases out for so. Long, well you almost got a.
- 52:15Speaker 2: Copy that's.
- 52:15Speaker 6: Why that's why the conviction rate is so, high because
- 52:18Speaker 6: most people just cop out and usually your money.
- 52:20Speaker 5: Runs, Right so you guys had the peak of your.
- 52:22Speaker 6: Dominance, yes you caught a federal. Indictment what was?
- 52:27Speaker 5: That what was? It hit you with the rick?
- 52:29Speaker 6: Ross so they tied it in with money launch rate
- 52:35Speaker 6: and supreme that's what They, well you, know it.
- 52:36Speaker 5: Was a lot more.
- 52:37Speaker 4: Charges it got dwindled down due to great attorneys and
- 52:41Speaker 4: the right. Thing even the money lorder case was. Stupid
- 52:45Speaker 4: we was paying think we was charged with a million
- 52:48Speaker 4: dollars of money on. It, right just to just just
- 52:52Speaker 4: use your own common sense from, THERE a million dollars
- 52:54Speaker 4: of money on it sounds like a, Lot but we're
- 52:56Speaker 4: at that moment we're paying tens of millions of dollars in.
- 52:59Speaker 5: Taxes we're paying eight phees and.
- 53:01Speaker 4: TAXIES i was gambling over a million dollars a, week
- 53:06Speaker 4: But i'm laundering a million. Dollars it doesn't make any,
- 53:09Speaker 4: sense just common. Sense If i'm learning the, Money i'm
- 53:12Speaker 4: trying to turn it, clean, Right why WOULD i be
- 53:15Speaker 4: gambling a million? Plus oh, yeah they got it's all, documented.
- 53:19Speaker 3: So so they froze the, assets, right the music. Assets
- 53:23Speaker 3: but that's why you still have some things to pull back.
- 53:25Speaker 3: On and you said the gambling thing you were imagine
- 53:28Speaker 3: Somebody i'm gonna KEEP i was managing Phil.
- 53:30Speaker 4: Ivy i'm gonna tell you to keep complete. TRANSPARENCY i
- 53:34Speaker 4: RAN irv made a lot more money than me in.
- 53:36Speaker 4: MUSIC i was running out of money in music because
- 53:40Speaker 4: they stopped paying. Us so when that money went, DRY
- 53:43Speaker 4: i had to find other. Ways but, Gambling i'm pretty good.
- 53:47Speaker 4: At i'm gonna knock on you, know But.
- 53:51Speaker 5: I'm pretty good at.
- 53:52Speaker 4: Gambling and then you, Know i've been gambling since probably
- 53:54Speaker 4: five years, old. Honestly and then to manage Phil ivy
- 53:59Speaker 4: just made probably the best gambler in the. World give
- 54:02Speaker 4: you more insight and, information which is invaluable for.
- 54:06Speaker 5: The listeners who don't know Who phil. Is google. Him
- 54:10Speaker 5: just a superstar poker player amongst. Others michael Or. Poker,
- 54:16Speaker 5: yeah they called him The Tiger, woods the Poker Michael Jordan.
- 54:18Speaker 5: Poker he's just the.
- 54:19Speaker 3: Best he's black From New, jersey From New, Jersey he's
- 54:24Speaker 3: the reason why you have The World series Of poker ON. Espn,
- 54:27Speaker 3: yes the reason why the pot has grown up With,
- 54:31Speaker 3: yeah he's the reason it grew so big because of his.
- 54:34Speaker 5: Success and then people took an interest in. Him he
- 54:38Speaker 5: was a.
- 54:38Speaker 4: Personality when you looked at all the other poker players
- 54:41Speaker 4: that had, success they wasn't. Interesting they wasn't, black that's
- 54:46Speaker 4: for damn, sure but they wasn't interesting as a.
- 54:48Speaker 5: Person they was Very, LISTEN i don't know how to introvert.
- 54:52Speaker 5: Boring was.
- 54:53Speaker 4: Boring so at the end of the, day he was
- 54:55Speaker 4: the first one to come and put the sway.
- 55:00Speaker 5: To, us, man we're going. ANYWHERE i take a lot
- 55:04Speaker 5: of credit for Philm.
- 55:07Speaker 2: So all, Right So French French manteta has a line
- 55:09Speaker 2: where you say people lost millions trying to beat the, fees,
- 55:12Speaker 2: right and you saying you got spent eight. Figures oh,
- 55:16Speaker 2: yeah eight figures are your. Money so it wasn't just
- 55:19Speaker 2: like so what.
- 55:20Speaker 4: What you had to spend money on was attorneys and
- 55:23Speaker 4: the attorneys we had to represent us in the case
- 55:26Speaker 4: for the. Trial wasn't the Attorneys i'm talking. About i'm
- 55:28Speaker 4: talking ABOUT i had the biggest law firms, again ignorance is.
- 55:32Speaker 4: Crazy we didn't know we HAD i didn't KNOW i
- 55:34Speaker 4: had to fight the government AND i wasn't charged with
- 55:38Speaker 4: a crime in the, beginning, Right so we're under. Investigation
- 55:43Speaker 4: they raided our. Office we wasn't charged with any. Crime
- 55:45Speaker 4: they're just saying we're under. Investigation what does that. Mean
- 55:47Speaker 4: they're looking at. You, Great look we're making here. Records
- 55:49Speaker 4: that's what we was telling, everybody, like come, in, look
- 55:52Speaker 4: there's nothing to, see.
- 55:54Speaker 5: But we're making all these. Records and then all of a,
- 55:57Speaker 5: sudden universalis stopped paying.
- 55:58Speaker 4: Us i'm, like wait a, minute and why they stop
- 56:01Speaker 4: Paying they stopped paying us because they. Cooperation, yeah they
- 56:05Speaker 4: cooperated with the government against. Us The United states Of
- 56:08Speaker 4: america said if you help these, boys we're coming after.
- 56:11Speaker 4: You SO i don't think anyone would have cooperated right
- 56:15Speaker 4: and try to help. Us any company they would have been,
- 56:17Speaker 4: like they would have distanced themself FROM, us no matter
- 56:20Speaker 4: how many billions of dollars we've generated for.
- 56:22Speaker 5: Them and that's the.
- 56:23Speaker 4: Facts and then at the end of the, day you,
- 56:25Speaker 4: know when you look at irv's, career you, KNOW i
- 56:28Speaker 4: USE irv Because i'm a part OF.
- 56:29Speaker 5: Irv So i'm gonna leave it at irv's.
- 56:31Speaker 4: Career he brought in Just jay Z, rockefeller, RIGHT, Dmx Rough,
- 56:37Speaker 4: fridays Joh rul Murder.
- 56:40Speaker 5: Ring when you count up.
- 56:41Speaker 4: Just that, alone not counting anything else we did For,
- 56:44Speaker 4: redman Method, Man Foxy, Brown, Ludacris, nelly not count any of.
- 56:49Speaker 4: That just those, There we're in the billions of dollars
- 56:53Speaker 4: of generated. Revenue and that's how executives in the music
- 56:56Speaker 4: industry look at those. Executives when you talk about A,
- 56:59Speaker 4: jimmy he's gonna tell you all the artists he, had
- 57:02Speaker 4: so don't discount WHAT irv.
- 57:04Speaker 5: Did it's the exact same, thing you.
- 57:06Speaker 4: Know you, know when you look at some of these executives,
- 57:09Speaker 4: again Like jimmy is an incredible, executive probably the best
- 57:12Speaker 4: music exec, Ever Jimmy, ivan hands. Down but when you
- 57:16Speaker 4: look at some of these other, guys they they did
- 57:19Speaker 4: very little and made hundreds of millions of. Dollars but
- 57:22Speaker 4: maybe they was the right side of the.
- 57:23Speaker 5: Fence they wasn't on the other side of the, tracks
- 57:25Speaker 5: if you understand What i'm.
- 57:26Speaker 4: Saying but at the end of the, day they met
- 57:28Speaker 4: with very limited amount of, success hundreds of millions of
- 57:32Speaker 4: dollars was given to them for those assets that they.
- 57:35Speaker 4: Created and that's the difference in hip hop versus pop
- 57:41Speaker 4: versus country because they didn't do it WITH.
- 57:45Speaker 5: R AND b either anything of. Color they didn't give
- 57:47Speaker 5: it up like.
- 57:48Speaker 2: That so THE fats, came they put pressure On Universal
- 57:51Speaker 2: Universal flip, said whatever you need to, know we'll tell
- 57:54Speaker 2: you basically pretty.
- 57:56Speaker 4: Much of, course they just. Didn't they cooperated the. Government,
- 57:59Speaker 4: now we can't fight. Everybody at the same, time we're
- 58:02Speaker 4: in the middle of this. Storm you don't even know
- 58:05Speaker 4: where all of these things are coming. From not to
- 58:07Speaker 4: mention fifty, cent, right think about all of the things
- 58:11Speaker 4: he's doing in the interroom of all of this while

- 58:21Speaker 2: say that he kind of dry snitch without really. Snitching,
- 58:25Speaker 2: no he's.
- 58:26Speaker 5: Snitched but it's all.
- 58:27Speaker 4: Good it's what it, is what it. IS i got
- 58:28Speaker 4: statements Of Curtis. Jackson, WELL i mean, like but it
- 58:32Speaker 4: was like around the states all in my. Paperwork, yes
- 58:36Speaker 4: SO i don't need to that means he made. Statements
- 58:38Speaker 4: what do you call?
- 58:39Speaker 5: THAT i don't.
- 58:40Speaker 4: Know it's just again when we went out and if
- 58:42Speaker 4: we said, that no one would believe it or no.
- 58:44Speaker 4: One you, know success has a way of blurring your, vision,
- 58:47Speaker 4: right he was super, successful so he's the number one.
- 58:51Speaker 4: Artist he was killing.
- 58:52Speaker 5: It he was killing. It people want to believe that.
- 58:55Speaker 5: Story you, know it's all. Good it is what it.
- 58:58Speaker 4: Is it's no crying over spilled milky is what it.
- 59:00Speaker 4: Is but the facts of the facts that. Don't you're
- 59:02Speaker 4: not going to get me to lie and tell you something.
- 59:04Speaker 4: Different did he Tell, yeah he told. Stories he told
- 59:07Speaker 4: him that were trying to kill. Him he told him that, lies,
- 59:11Speaker 4: like come, on you're trying to get us. Deterred and

- 59:23Speaker 4: discussion but this all affected, business, Right it's all affected.
- 59:28Speaker 4: Business SO i don't want to deter off of. It
- 59:29Speaker 4: but you, know they only protect their. Own they wasn't
- 59:32Speaker 4: coming to protect nobody. Else they protected. Him they made
- 59:36Speaker 4: sure he was, safe like it's a. Lie in The
- 59:38Speaker 4: United states Of, america the federal, system the federal, government
- 59:42Speaker 4: the police, department they all took care of this. Man
- 59:45Speaker 4: so you know why is THAT i don't get, it

- 1:02:38Speaker 4: erv To sign game and work it and. Make music
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: and then all of a sudden he called me, AND
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: says i Got. Doctor dre so he wasn't signed at
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: FIFTY in. G unit perception THINKS he's.
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: G unit this is what people. Don't get he was
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: signed To doctor dre and, After that but doesn't it
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: make better sense TO be. G unit.
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: It's business so when you think, Murder, rink okay we're
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: generating nine figures, in revenue HERE comes.
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: G unit REALLY not g. Unit aftermath it's only a.
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: Lateral move take, my money put it. Over there that's
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: all it Was. For universal they.
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: Don't care.
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: Is, business yeah was All. Under universal we're All.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: Under universal they were on The. Nscope universal we're On Deaf.
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: Jam universal so it.
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: Didn't matter it's Just. A niverse it's. A, slide yeah
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: push that.
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: Money there you think they care If they if that slide,
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: didn't happen they, Would care but because, it happened they.
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: Don't care.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: You Know, for vendi Who owned universal at, the time
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: was trying to get in touch with us because they
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: wanted to know what's going on with, The case like
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: what get out.
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: Of here there's nothing going on. The case we're making.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: Hit records but that lets you know how high up in,
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: the System the.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: Universe system we was being talked about and, dealt, with
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: right you think You think vivendi was TALKING.
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: ABOUT g unit or any.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: Other label they only care because we was losing. The
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: Money us junior. Got popping they're gonna talk ABOUT g
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: unit at. That moment do you Understand what? I'm saying at,
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: that moment they're not THINKING, G unit they're. Thinking murdering
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: all this money is about to go down. To drain
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: what's going on with?
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: You guys is?
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: Everything okay you know Under saying and that's, what happened
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: and then it gets shifted. Over there from a, corporate
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: standpoint it's. No loss it's probably. A win they went
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: up and.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: You said you said something that like when they they
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: had you guys sign something like if y'all lost.
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: The, case yeah so while during our trial we had
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: to sign over to you to so we could.
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: Get, Money right usually we was talking about how the
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: government they they they stop all your revenue. From coming
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: that's why. They win they you cannot fight them because
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: you run out. Of resources, you know someone TOLD, me
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: inc you know ink not, not MURDERING just inc is.
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: Unlimited RESOURCE because i got, unlimited ink so they could
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: write things, about you which they did they, you know
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: there's very strategic in, their approach and it's like, in
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: hindsight you, learn it you don't know why you're in.
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: The storm so just imagine all these things going on
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: and the government is sitting there stopping everything financially.
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: For us what are we.
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: Gonna do we're gonna run out of money at some
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: point and then now here this offer so we could
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: get if we go, To jail universe would have. Owned
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: everything you want to talk about some. Scumbag, business okay
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: think About what i'm. Telling you I'm facing i'm fighting
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: for my life. In court we signed that in court
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: room while we're in.
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: The middle of. Our trial this Is what universal did.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: To Us so universal comes in the middle of the
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: trial with paperwork, that says if you lose, your case
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: we own, everything everything and, doing that they gave. You
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: money they cut a check that they owed us so
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: we could continue.
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: To pay but that's what, they did you Know what,
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: I'm saying so we could continue to pay legal we
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: was paying. PRIVATE investigators i investigated everyone next to ME
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: because i wanted to.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: Know who, my DEALER and i. LET it i want
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: people to really understand and see that in so in
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: the middle of a. Federal trial you went to jail for. Twenty,
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: years yes somebody from universe who comes, and, says look
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: WE have x amount of dollars in. The courtroom but
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: in order to get, this money sign this paper and if,
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: you lose we're gonna take everything that.
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: You, build everything it's. Ours ours you have no real
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: choice but to sign it because you. Need, money right
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: they found. Your vulnerable but now we, REALLY dice, i said.
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: But this game was the this was crazy crazy and
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: how again it was a, crazy risk but we was running.
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: Our options so we do, the deal we win, the
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: case we, own everything and then they don't want to
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: do a deal. With us took us over two years
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: to get that next. Deal back so you're sitting there
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: with no. Generated revenue THAT'S why i went, into sports
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: you Know what. I'M saying i went, into insurance. He
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: fund this is all, the time the ERA when i
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: started all. Of these after those, two years we didn't
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: get our. Deal back we thought we was going to
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: run right back into a, deal nothing so.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: All right, So okay so now that leads into the
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: conversation of what you're. Doing now because the distribution thing
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: started with that and listening, the studio you was explaining
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: how what you're doing Now with adventures you're distributing independent music.
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: To, platforms yes like a. Distribution channel i'm a.
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: Distribution Company, season yeah.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: BECAUSE because i don't think a lot of can we
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: just break down because there's a lot of independent artists,
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: out there and especially now right they may Not know
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: so as an, independent artist how do you get? Your,
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: music well we know how to get to, music now
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: but before like what was the how does the independent
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: artist get that music onto.
- 1:07:45Speaker 5: Before the internet or After.
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: The internet like Before, the internet you could still go directly,
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: to iTunes but now they put a lot more criteria
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: on it because they're trying to eliminate. The volume if
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: you don't come through an aggregator, like myself a, toom
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: CORE a. Cd baby they don't want that business From
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: Just john Doe, From boise idaho putting their.
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: Music up they want you to go through.
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: An aggregator so that's another way of them, blocking, things
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: right they got. To control everything is about control, and
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: blocking so that's what. They're DOING so i have, A Company,
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: adventure MUSIC and i do digital distribution for independent ARTISTS
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: and i get you on all of, those outlets all
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: those DSPs that would allow your music to be either
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: streamed or downloaded. For money and then, you know we
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: take a percentage just like any, distribution company, you know
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: and you get.
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: The balance so it all. Has COMPANY but i don't own.
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: Your music they still.
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: Own him, the artist, whoever is whoever is that person
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: is that's putting the, music up is the owner of.
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: The music so the benefit of it right as an.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: Independent artist Let's say i'm an, INDEPENDENT artist i can
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: put the music, up, MYSELF right i can put it
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: on A sound why don't we go to ADVENTURES because i?
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: Have things when you, Say SoundCloud SoundCloud is not a
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: real place to. Get, monetized okay it's mostly, free music
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: but it's one of the number one places for independent
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: artists to get to.
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: Get RECOGNIZED so I.
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: Encourage SoundCloud and now they did start a monetization side,
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: of it so you can't, do it but you gotta,
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: fit again it's a criteria to get to fit.
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: Into it so but Let's Say apple Music or title,
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: you could.
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: YOU can't i delivered over two, hundred locations which is
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: typically more than ninety five percent of all the other
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: aggregators that, does distribution but.
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: Then the real.
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: Secret sources i'm part. Of education i'm teaching you the
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: reason you should do what you need to do from a.
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: Business standpoint from if, you know every independent artist is A.
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: MINIATURE universal I use universal all the time because they're
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: the biggest. Record label so whatever they're doing to monetize,
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: their business you should.
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: Be doing the.
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: Same way just you're, just, Small right but they know.
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: The game they know how to monetize this music that,
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: you're doing so you should. Follow suit you should understand
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: don't try and reinvent the wheel because they know how
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: to do it. The, best now you could do other
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: things added on that they may not do and try
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: because you might change. The game but follow the business
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: acclement of what, they do and you'll be in a.
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: Great place, you know the number way music record labels
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: make money. Is catalog, you know that's the number one
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: revenue stream all the. Old Music so i'm trying to.
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: Teach artists they tell me they got a hundred songs in,
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: their Computer and, i'm like, that's money but you don't
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: get it because it's in.
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: Your computer and.
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: If you go to these other companies they charge you
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: every month to keep your music out to, distribute it which. Is,
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: counterproductive RIGHT if i, HAVE to i want to be
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: able to put my music out and it sits there
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: as long as that. COMPANY'S open i don't want it
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: to be returned to me or. TAKEN down i wanted
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: to sit there because if it could make, A dollar
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: i want to make. A dollar if it could make one,
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: HUNDRED dollars i want one, hundred dollars and it could
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: be in, ten years, twenty years it.
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: Doesn't matter that's what. Music is.
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: You, know uh give me AN. Album dmx we was
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: Just talking. Dmax depth jam is not making a dollar
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: of marketing.
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: Costs into that. Album anymore that is pure.
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: Profit one every dollar is on top of whatever they,
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: already generated and that will. Sell, forever right. It's timeless
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: it's gonna get. Played forever it's gonna generate. Revenue forever
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: that's the game you're in as, an artist and you
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: need to know how. To play and that's what we
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: TEACH it a benure.
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: Music, powerful no.
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: That's powerful. That's powerful.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: We want to thank you. For, coming, oh definitely that
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: was a lot a lot of. Information information that's.

- 1:13:11Speaker 4: U r e S music Music Dot com Adventures because
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: i'm adding ventures together for all, these artists these.
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: Independent artists that's where the name.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: Came from now, that's dope that's and you also said
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: that you have like you can they can get different services.
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: LIKE absolutely i have services everything you could.
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: THINK of i tried to make a menu list of
- 1:13:33Speaker 4: all the services That say universal would do for you
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: and create that list for an. Independent artist the difference is, price,
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: Point RIGHT so i could roll you out if you
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: had the money you want to, roll out Like Your,
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: RICK ross i could.
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: DO that i have all the people.
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: In place but if you only have a couple dollars
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: one hundred bucks, two hundre there's things you could do
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: that will help get your record. Out there and THAT'S
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: what i. Do too so it's a it's a variety of.
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: Different services if you need a, video man you need
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: your record mix. The MASTER like i, tell everyone the
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: power of mixing mastering is because you're competing against the.
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: Best artists once, you delivered so if your music doesn't.
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: Sound right, you know you've ever been in the club
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: and they play a record from somebody and that record
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: sounds like a little lower and then you play the
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: records that are.
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: Out and it goes. Back up that's. The problem that's
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: why you need to mix the master.
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: Your record you're Competing, with drake even though you don't,
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: understand that and you know one record could, change everything
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: so you want to always have the. Best chances it's
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: just about, being prepared and it's at your. Resource level
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: But what adventures Will Do once i'm finished with, the
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: Platform because i'm still building the, TECH out i will
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: be one of the biggest marketing FIRMS and i will
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: have money for every independent artist based.
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: On, social media, all genres, every artist and that's going
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: to be the.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: Game changer That's when universe is gonna have to get out.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: Of here THAT'S when i closed. THEIR doors i got
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: a little bits always COMES to i.
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: Got a little beef for a. Few guys but it's
- 1:15:02Speaker 5: all good and he.
