- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush. I'm your host,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Daisy Kent, and today we are jumping into part two
- 0:17Speaker 1: of Sorority Sisterhood after Graduation. Can you introduce yourselves and
- 0:23Speaker 1: where you went to college and how you met?
- 0:26Speaker 3: So we went to Arizona State and we graduated ninety seven.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I was going to say ninety seven. Yep, ninety seven.
- 0:35Speaker 1: That is so amazing. So how long have you guys
- 0:38Speaker 1: been friends for?
- 0:39Speaker 4: Well, the interesting part is actually I, even though I'm
- 0:42Speaker 4: the same age as Flora and Katie, who is somewhere
- 0:48Speaker 4: we actually I came into Arizona State a year later.
- 0:52Speaker 4: I went to another school first and then came to
- 0:53Speaker 4: Arizona State. So they were already friends and in the sorority.
- 0:58Speaker 4: So Flora actually ended up being my pledge mom as
- 1:01Speaker 4: we went through sorority. So as we went through Rush,
- 1:03Speaker 4: she ended up being my big sister. So that's how
- 1:06Speaker 4: we ended up meeting. Originally as we went through she
- 1:09Speaker 4: kind of kind of found me and kind of followed
- 1:11Speaker 4: me through and it was.
- 1:14Speaker 2: That was how we became good friends.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I love that. That's so fun. So I just had
- 1:18Speaker 1: my little on for this episode too. She was a
- 1:22Speaker 1: little earlier. I had talked to her, but I had
- 1:24Speaker 1: her on and me and her are like super close.
- 1:26Speaker 1: She's I'm getting married in December and she's one of
- 1:29Speaker 1: my bridesmaids.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Oh that's so fun.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Yeah, So that's so cool to like see you guys
- 1:34Speaker 1: and that you have like had this relationship.
- 1:38Speaker 2: But there she is. There's kath We call her Catherine,
- 1:40Speaker 2: and her name's Katie.
- 1:41Speaker 1: We met basically when we were.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Eighteen nineteen years old, and we all just basically turned
- 1:47Speaker 3: fifty or fifty one. We're in the fifty to fifty
- 1:49Speaker 3: one age, so we're going on what is about thirty
- 1:51Speaker 3: something years?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Do you have like some favorite memories of when you
- 1:57Speaker 1: guys were in college together?
- 2:00Speaker 4: Member Flora just being having so much life and being
- 2:03Speaker 4: a pledge. I kind of I knew one of our
- 2:05Speaker 4: other soorty sisters was my friend from junior high high
- 2:08Speaker 4: school in college and she had already had this great
- 2:12Speaker 4: group of friends and you know, kind of brought me
- 2:14Speaker 4: in under her wing and you know, just clicked with everybody.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Because we were already friends. So but I remember Flora
- 2:22Speaker 4: just having so much life and always kind of wanted
- 2:25Speaker 4: to protect me, and so anything that would go on
- 2:28Speaker 4: or anywhere she and her boyfriend at the time would
- 2:31Speaker 4: just you know, take me somewhere, get me anywhere I
- 2:34Speaker 4: would go, And I just remember thinking that I kind
- 2:37Speaker 4: of didn't have to do a lot any of the
- 2:39Speaker 4: you know, hazing kind of stuff that not hazing, but
- 2:42Speaker 4: like it just kind of like the different things like
- 2:44Speaker 4: you know, oh, you know, here's a quarter, go, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 4: make a phone call to somebody, you know, whatever, the
- 2:49Speaker 4: silly things that they used to make us do.
- 2:51Speaker 2: She kind of just always kind of pushed me.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Through, so I, you know, as we were going through,
- 2:54Speaker 4: so she always just kind of took care of me.
- 2:56Speaker 4: So I don't know if there's any one specific thing
- 2:58Speaker 4: that I can remember, but what about you, Phloe.
- 3:01Speaker 3: One of my most let's call it honorable mention ak
- 3:05Speaker 3: embarrassing moments was freshman year. It was parents weekend and
- 3:10Speaker 3: my mom was not able to come out, so all
- 3:12Speaker 3: of my girlfriend's parents were there and they decided to
- 3:15Speaker 3: take us out to Kyoto's, which is like a tepanyaki
- 3:19Speaker 3: sake bombing place, and clearly I did not know how
- 3:22Speaker 3: to control my alcohol intake, and I one hundred percent
- 3:27Speaker 3: overserved myself and I ended up on the floor of
- 3:32Speaker 3: the restaurant with a rose in my mouth. And there
- 3:37Speaker 3: was a cop one or two of our other friends
- 3:39Speaker 3: that decided to join me in that picture. But we
- 3:41Speaker 3: die laughing because we pull out pictures every so often,
- 3:45Speaker 3: and that is like a story that we will remember
- 3:47Speaker 3: for the rest of our lives. And I'm glad that
- 3:50Speaker 3: those parents got to know me, because I would think
- 3:53Speaker 3: first impression is like, you do not be friends with
- 3:55Speaker 3: that girl. But I think I've redeemed myself after you know,
- 4:00Speaker 3: thirty years of friendship. But it was hands down one
- 4:03Speaker 3: of our funniest moments, especially for everybody else.
- 4:09Speaker 4: I think some of the times that are so funny too.
- 4:11Speaker 4: What we do now is probably once a month, when't
- 4:15Speaker 4: you say, Flora, one of us finds a picture from
- 4:17Speaker 4: when we were in college, and you know, one of
- 4:21Speaker 4: my favorite is some of the girls not Flora and I,
- 4:24Speaker 4: well maybe you did flow, I don't remember, but really
- 4:27Speaker 4: love that Jennifer Aniston haircut from friends and it was
- 4:32Speaker 4: short and real, magical and so just as a little
- 4:37Speaker 4: bit of you know, kind of make people laugh a
- 4:40Speaker 4: little bit. We will show like snapshot pictures that, you know,
- 4:44Speaker 4: take a picture on our iPhone and send it out
- 4:46Speaker 4: to our group. We have a group that is says
- 4:49Speaker 4: the Girls, and it's on WhatsApp and it has like
- 4:51Speaker 4: crying faces on it and the Golden Girls, and so
- 4:54Speaker 4: we just that's how we kind of communicate. We have
- 4:56Speaker 4: this group chat, and so we would put stuff on there.
- 4:59Speaker 4: And if you just run across a picture that is
- 5:01Speaker 4: I mean just too good for words, you got to
- 5:04Speaker 4: post it.
- 5:04Speaker 2: I mean, even if you're having.
- 5:05Speaker 4: A bad day, you can look at that picture and
- 5:07Speaker 4: be like, I mean, it could have been worse. We
- 5:08Speaker 4: could have been lying in the middle of Kyoto's after
- 5:11Speaker 4: stocky bombs.
- 5:14Speaker 1: That's so fun. I love that you guys have like
- 5:17Speaker 1: such a close relationship still. That's awesome.
- 5:21Speaker 4: I feel like there was a lot during college, but
- 5:23Speaker 4: I feel like our relationship has gotten even closer after
- 5:26Speaker 4: college and through kids and helping each other through life
- 5:29Speaker 4: in general.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Off of that, you said, like, as you guys have
- 5:33Speaker 1: gotten older and had kids, do you guys have any
- 5:36Speaker 1: kids that are like college age and have gone through recruitment.
- 5:41Speaker 3: So I would say that, let's see here, Jane, her
- 5:46Speaker 3: daughter and my daughter are almost the same age. She
- 5:50Speaker 3: went to TC, My daughter went to Auburn. She now
- 5:53Speaker 3: lives in New York.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And then.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Let's see who so and then our friend Taren, her
- 6:01Speaker 3: daughter goes to Tennessee. So she went through Rush. And
- 6:05Speaker 3: then what is set? Are those the oldest out of
- 6:08Speaker 3: all of us?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:09Speaker 3: Yeah, so we have some boys in there, but as
- 6:12Speaker 3: far as the girls, they yeah, definitely went through rush.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I do have a funny story about when I dirty
- 6:18Speaker 3: rushed Ashley.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Do you remember that?
- 6:21Speaker 1: I would love to hear it.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:24Speaker 3: So Ashley, who's a little firecracker. She I met her
- 6:29Speaker 3: in the dorm and I only lived in the dorm
- 6:31Speaker 3: like for only not very long because I moved on
- 6:34Speaker 3: to the asue they have sorority floors. Anyways, I met
- 6:36Speaker 3: Ashley thiss cues the button and she ended up going
- 6:41Speaker 3: through Spring Rush, and I just didn't follow the rules
- 6:44Speaker 3: and would just be calling her behind the scenes.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yes, I had like kindsight.
- 6:50Speaker 3: That was not the best idea, but she I'm like,
- 6:53Speaker 3: just don't I promise you. I promise you. Because a
- 6:55Speaker 3: couple of us also were great exceptions. I was one
- 6:58Speaker 3: of them. Are their friend Ulye. But I kept telling Ashley,
- 7:01Speaker 3: do not go another house. I promise you we're going
- 7:04Speaker 3: to take you. So yeah, but I would say, are
- 7:10Speaker 3: it was helpful for our daughters going through rush, especially
- 7:12Speaker 3: some of the you know, the Southern rushes, or it
- 7:15Speaker 3: can be a little intimidating.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Fixed for already that like you wanted your daughter to
- 7:22Speaker 1: go into or did you like not care and we're
- 7:24Speaker 1: just like whatever, you know, we're DJ.
- 7:27Speaker 3: So obviously I was like, I would have loved it
- 7:29Speaker 3: if she was a Digi, but she ended up going
- 7:34Speaker 3: pi Fei. She was between pie Fey Find Me, Find
- 7:37Speaker 3: Me was definitely more Southern, I would say, okay, and
- 7:41Speaker 3: so pi fi was had a little bit more diversity
- 7:45Speaker 3: as far as girls at different areas. But she was
- 7:48Speaker 3: pretty torn till the very end.
- 7:51Speaker 2: But she did. Yeah, she did decide to.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Go Piel for her like seeing you be so close
- 7:59Speaker 1: to there's already sisters still, like do you think she's
- 8:02Speaker 1: found that in her sorority?
- 8:04Speaker 3: I mean, I will say that I don't know. I mean,
- 8:09Speaker 3: and do you know if any other girls you know,
- 8:11Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 8:12Speaker 4: It's so funny because we just we just were in
- 8:13Speaker 4: France and our friend who were in France with it
- 8:16Speaker 4: was her fiftieth and so she had this great party
- 8:20Speaker 4: and all families were invited. So for me, my family
- 8:23Speaker 4: couldn't come. I have a son who's fifteen, and my
- 8:25Speaker 4: husband was working, and so it was just me that came.
- 8:28Speaker 4: But Laura's whole family came, Katie's whole family came, Jana's
- 8:34Speaker 4: daughter came.
- 8:35Speaker 2: You know, Ashley's.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Girls are younger, younger even than my son, so they
- 8:38Speaker 4: didn't come. But like to see all the kids that
- 8:42Speaker 4: they don't know each other besides being with us, and
- 8:45Speaker 4: we're all these aunts that they've been shoved onto and
- 8:50Speaker 4: just you know, like loving them and being there, but
- 8:52Speaker 4: to see them all together and they don't know each
- 8:55Speaker 4: other very I mean, they know each other from us
- 8:56Speaker 4: being together, but it's like their connection was so close
- 8:59Speaker 4: because we're so close. But a couple of them had
- 9:03Speaker 4: told I mean, I'm sure Savannah told you to Flora,
- 9:05Speaker 4: but it was like, I think we're kind of a unicorn, Like,
- 9:10Speaker 4: I mean, there is you know, I mean, what is
- 9:12Speaker 4: it Flora, one, two, three.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Four or five, six seven?
- 9:17Speaker 4: Is there six or seven of us that this whole
- 9:20Speaker 4: time seven that have stayed. I mean there's not a
- 9:24Speaker 4: day that doesn't go by that we don't at least
- 9:26Speaker 4: text with one of one of the group, or if
- 9:29Speaker 4: not a whole group text and talk to each other.
- 9:32Speaker 4: I mean, we get really mad when we don't see
- 9:34Speaker 4: each other at least once, if not twice a year
- 9:37Speaker 4: and make a point. So I think it's to see
- 9:40Speaker 4: the kids then go on and be so close to
- 9:43Speaker 4: and want those same relationships for themselves. I feel like
- 9:47Speaker 4: that's kind of an example we tried to set for them,
- 9:49Speaker 4: Like your most important friends are the ones that you
- 9:53Speaker 4: know help you survive through life. And that's what we
- 9:56Speaker 4: all kind of done together, is we've grown up together
- 9:59Speaker 4: and now have raised our kids to get you know,
- 10:01Speaker 4: you get advice like oh my gosh, what's happening here,
- 10:04Speaker 4: and somebody's been through it at some point.
- 10:06Speaker 1: So I think it's so special.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
- 10:12Speaker 4: I don't think it's I think it's pretty rare. I
- 10:13Speaker 4: mean most people have a couple sorority sisters that are friends,
- 10:16Speaker 4: but not all of us that get along so well.
- 10:18Speaker 2: You know, we do make it a priority too.
- 10:21Speaker 3: You know, you really do have to put the effort
- 10:22Speaker 3: in and we live all across the whole country, So
- 10:25Speaker 3: some of it is just being intentional to keep those
- 10:29Speaker 3: relationships going.
- 10:30Speaker 2: But we it's definitely a priority for us.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Sure, like life, Like I feel like after I graduated,
- 10:38Speaker 1: like it got so much more busy. Like I can't
- 10:40Speaker 1: imagine like when like I'm married and like start having
- 10:44Speaker 1: kids and stuff, I'm like, it just gets crazier. So
- 10:48Speaker 1: that's so awesome that you guys have saved friends this
- 10:51Speaker 1: whole time, and that you all are so intentional with that.
- 10:54Speaker 4: I think one of the most amazing things that I've
- 10:57Speaker 4: noticed is these kids, like Savannah being grown up, the
- 11:00Speaker 4: conversations that I had with them on this trip. I mean,
- 11:05Speaker 4: it's like, oh my gosh, I'd love the person you've
- 11:07Speaker 4: turned into. I loved your family, and I knew you
- 11:09Speaker 4: were going to be great, but now you've exceeded my expectations,
- 11:12Speaker 4: you know. So But I do feel like it's because
- 11:14Speaker 4: a little bit of all of us have all kind
- 11:16Speaker 4: of you know, we've all been at least a little
- 11:18Speaker 4: part or we've used each other as examples as we've
- 11:22Speaker 4: raised our kids to be, you know, to help them through.
- 11:25Speaker 4: So it's it's so nice to have that base and
- 11:28Speaker 4: that you know, support system. But I will tell you
- 11:31Speaker 4: that even still these old ladies can really do some shenanigans.
- 11:34Speaker 4: So even on our girls' trips, we come out really hot,
- 11:38Speaker 4: we're like a roaming candle and go really big and
- 11:40Speaker 4: then we maybe have to rest the next.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Day before I let you guys go. Do you have
- 11:44Speaker 1: like any like advice that you would give somebody that's
- 11:48Speaker 1: graduating college and they want to keep a good relationship
- 11:52Speaker 1: with their sorority sisters.
- 11:54Speaker 3: I would say, And we all had like kids sort
- 11:58Speaker 3: of at different times, and you do go through different phases,
- 12:00Speaker 3: but again it's really taking the time and making it
- 12:04Speaker 3: intentional and a priority. Like for me, I moved quite
- 12:08Speaker 3: a few times, but like this, these girls are always
- 12:11Speaker 3: been my rock, and so it's just making sure that
- 12:15Speaker 3: even if you you know, you'll meet like meet moms
- 12:18Speaker 3: in the Mom's club and all these different things. We've
- 12:20Speaker 3: all made obviously made other friends, but this is a
- 12:23Speaker 3: pretty special bond.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I'd say these are our our go to girls for sure.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I think also we all have.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Been very vulnerable and authentic with each other. Like I
- 12:34Speaker 4: think that's a really important thing to not trying to
- 12:38Speaker 4: be someone you're not, and I think all of us
- 12:41Speaker 4: feel comfortable enough to if we see that happening, be like,
- 12:45Speaker 4: wait a minute, what's happening here? You guys put yourself
- 12:48Speaker 4: in check or you know, there's no problem calling each
- 12:50Speaker 4: other out to be able to make sure that we,
- 12:53Speaker 4: you know, we stay true to who we are and
- 12:56Speaker 4: being authentic and who we've always been. So I think
- 12:59Speaker 4: that's it's important to have good friends that you can
- 13:01Speaker 4: find that do that. They can be your tree leaders,
- 13:04Speaker 4: but they can also be your reprimenders to say, hey,
- 13:07Speaker 4: look at that's not who you are. Don't be that way,
- 13:09Speaker 4: you know, like stay on your path.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that. Well, thank you guys so much.
- 13:15Speaker 1: This was so amazing and so many people are gonna
- 13:18Speaker 1: love listening to this. I mean, I love talking to
- 13:20Speaker 1: you guys, like makes me excited about me and my
- 13:24Speaker 1: friends too. And when we all start having kids and everything,
- 13:28Speaker 1: I can't believe you all went to France together. That's
- 13:30Speaker 1: so fun.
- 13:30Speaker 4: That was the craziest part to see these kids now
- 13:32Speaker 4: grown up and like having a beer or I'm like, wait, no, no,
- 13:36Speaker 4: you're you're not old enough to be doing that.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Oh wait, yeah you are.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, this is so weird because I haven't
- 13:42Speaker 4: gotten any older. I don't know how you're okay to
- 13:43Speaker 4: do this.
- 13:44Speaker 2: That's the other thing.
- 13:45Speaker 3: We still think we're eighteen even though we're really not,
- 13:47Speaker 3: but we'd like to pretend.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Well, thank you so much. I really really appreciate.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Thanks Davie for having us.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Hey, Joan, thanks for coming on. I'm excited to chat
- 14:12Speaker 1: with you.
- 14:13Speaker 5: Thanks for having me. You know, it's funny.
- 14:15Speaker 6: The only time I talk about my sorority anymore is
- 14:17Speaker 6: on iHeartRadio. I know where I was, Like, it's bringing
- 14:21Speaker 6: back all these memories. I kind of love it. And
- 14:23Speaker 6: recently I actually went back to my story, which I
- 14:25Speaker 6: had done a really long time.
- 14:27Speaker 1: No way, that's so fund Yeah, it was really funny.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Did you see a bunch of the girls that were
- 14:32Speaker 1: like in it now?
- 14:34Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 14:34Speaker 6: And it's so different. When I was in the sorority,
- 14:37Speaker 6: I got in like I was a little bit of
- 14:39Speaker 6: a nerd. I was a computer nerd. I was like,
- 14:41Speaker 6: and that's kind of why I joined aurority. I had like,
- 14:43Speaker 6: really no social life and I joined when I was
- 14:46Speaker 6: a junior, so I didn't rush until I was a junior.
- 14:49Speaker 6: And I know, it's crazy and I mareculously got in
- 14:52Speaker 6: because my sorority was on academic probation because they were
- 14:57Speaker 6: not smart girls. They were partiers. It was a party stority.
- 15:01Speaker 6: So I got in the perfect sorority for me because
- 15:03Speaker 6: that's what I needed. But they needed me because I
- 15:06Speaker 6: brought their GPA up and they got off academic probation.
- 15:09Speaker 1: What school and what sorority was it?
- 15:11Speaker 6: I was University of Maryland and I was a Delta Cama.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, so fun.
- 15:15Speaker 5: What were you?
- 15:16Speaker 1: I was Alpha Fie and I went to San Diego State?
- 15:20Speaker 1: And are you So? Do you keep in touch with
- 15:22Speaker 1: any of your sorority sisters?
- 15:24Speaker 5: A few?
- 15:25Speaker 6: I one really good friend, like she was in my wedding,
- 15:28Speaker 6: I was in hers, that kind of girl. But and
- 15:30Speaker 6: a few live in this area that I I'll see
- 15:32Speaker 6: out every once in a while, and I've kept in
- 15:34Speaker 6: touch with kind of sporadically over the years, but other
- 15:37Speaker 6: than that, I haven't really, but like I weirdly will
- 15:40Speaker 6: meet people that So the day I got announced to
- 15:43Speaker 6: be the Golden Bachelorette, like to the world, was at
- 15:45Speaker 6: these things called the Disney upfronts. Yeah and after and
- 15:48Speaker 6: it's a big, big, cuge thing. And afterwards we go
- 15:51Speaker 6: to this big hotel and they have a giganic with
- 15:54Speaker 6: thousands of people in a ballroom, a like a meet
- 15:57Speaker 6: and greet, and so everybody that's gone to be on
- 16:00Speaker 6: shows in like starting in the fall, they had there,
- 16:03Speaker 6: as well as all these media people.
- 16:05Speaker 5: So some boy came up.
- 16:06Speaker 6: To me, he's like, hey, you were friends with my mom.
- 16:08Speaker 6: She was in your sorority and I'm like who, and
- 16:10Speaker 6: he tells me your name. I'm like, oh, my gosh,
- 16:12Speaker 6: and yeah, sure enough it was her son. So now
- 16:15Speaker 6: he like works in media. I know, so I'm old.
- 16:17Speaker 6: And then my son's best friend, his aunt was in
- 16:21Speaker 6: my sorority and she was in my PIF's class. Even so,
- 16:24Speaker 6: like everyone's like you just like get a sprinkling of
- 16:26Speaker 6: people that have been in your life over the years
- 16:28Speaker 6: and you just had no idea.
- 16:29Speaker 1: It's so crazy how like things like become so connected.
- 16:34Speaker 1: It feels like.
- 16:35Speaker 5: It really is funny.
- 16:36Speaker 6: And you know, if you just are around and you
- 16:38Speaker 6: get to be old like me, then things just keep
- 16:41Speaker 6: coming full circle.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Yeah, did your daughters when they were in college, did
- 16:47Speaker 1: they do sororities?
- 16:49Speaker 5: Neither one of them.
- 16:49Speaker 6: My boys were athletes, so they didn't do them either,
- 16:52Speaker 6: so I kind of was the end of Greek.
- 16:54Speaker 5: Like my niece did it.
- 16:55Speaker 6: She went to University of Florida and she was in
- 16:57Speaker 6: a SERRITI. I couldn't even tell you which one though.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, fun. Do you have a memory from
- 17:02Speaker 1: being in authority that still makes you like.
- 17:05Speaker 5: Laugh so so many? Yeah, you know, living in a.
- 17:09Speaker 6: House with a bunch of girls, there is like a
- 17:11Speaker 6: memory a day.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I feel like, literally, there's nothing like that. It was.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I lived in the house for a year and it
- 17:18Speaker 1: was so much fun.
- 17:20Speaker 6: Wasn't like one of the funnest things that we had
- 17:23Speaker 6: a dormer, so we all slept in the same room,
- 17:25Speaker 6: and then we had day rooms where like that's where
- 17:27Speaker 6: you kind of liked ad homework or whatever, and you
- 17:29Speaker 6: had one day bed and then three desk and three dressers,
- 17:32Speaker 6: and we had like that level of the floor was
- 17:36Speaker 6: just a disaster area. We were all borrowing each other's clothes.
- 17:40Speaker 6: It was the rooms were small.
- 17:42Speaker 5: It was a disaster, but we had so much fun.
- 17:44Speaker 6: And I'll tell you the memory I remember most that
- 17:46Speaker 6: was really funny was it was kind of I don't know,
- 17:50Speaker 6: like I'm not a hairy person probably like you. But
- 17:53Speaker 6: girls were waxing and it was like their first experience
- 17:56Speaker 6: with waxing, and it was we were about to go
- 17:59Speaker 6: on spring breaks, so they decided to do their bikini lines.
- 18:02Speaker 6: So the whole bikini ria and so like four of
- 18:06Speaker 6: the girls were in a room. I happened to walk
- 18:07Speaker 6: in and they were all like like smearing the wax
- 18:10Speaker 6: on and the first one goes to.
- 18:13Speaker 5: Pull it off and she screams bloody.
- 18:16Speaker 6: Murder and she's like, you aren't so bad, and so
- 18:18Speaker 6: they're all waxed and they don't know how to get
- 18:20Speaker 6: it off now because now none of them want to
- 18:21Speaker 6: do it.
- 18:24Speaker 5: I will always remember that.
- 18:25Speaker 6: First of all, I've never done the waxing thing, and
- 18:28Speaker 6: I was like, well, I never will because I've been
- 18:30Speaker 6: scarred after that experience.
- 18:32Speaker 5: I could never do it. Like it's horrible.
- 18:34Speaker 1: That's so fun. Okay. Is there something that you wish
- 18:53Speaker 1: you knew when you were twenty about friendship?
- 18:56Speaker 6: So I think like, like, probably you're probably still in
- 18:59Speaker 6: the stage of your life where you think that the
- 19:01Speaker 6: friends that you make at that stage you'll be friends
- 19:03Speaker 6: with forever, and that it's not going to take effort
- 19:06Speaker 6: because you.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Know you love them so much and you're so close now, but.
- 19:10Speaker 6: Like life kind of gets away from you, and sometimes,
- 19:13Speaker 6: like friendships that are important to you, you don't make
- 19:17Speaker 6: the effort that you need to to keep them because
- 19:20Speaker 6: all of a sudden, a month has gone by, our
- 19:21Speaker 6: a day iss gone buy, or two days are going by,
- 19:23Speaker 6: a week's gone by, a month's go by, all of
- 19:24Speaker 6: a sudden, a year has gone by, and it's so
- 19:26Speaker 6: hard to catch up. And you keep thinking, I'm going
- 19:29Speaker 6: to call them and we're going to catch up, but
- 19:31Speaker 6: you think, oh, I'm going to need an hour to
- 19:32Speaker 6: do that, so you keep not doing it. I think
- 19:35Speaker 6: maintaining important friendships, you know, as time goes on is hard,
- 19:40Speaker 6: And if I had known to do that, I probably
- 19:42Speaker 6: would have been better friends with people that I had
- 19:45Speaker 6: been in my serrority with people that I really loved
- 19:47Speaker 6: and I still wonder in my mind whatever happened to them.
- 19:50Speaker 6: So they were really like part of my life and
- 19:52Speaker 6: a big part of my life and part of my history,
- 19:54Speaker 6: and I wish I had known that that, you know,
- 19:57Speaker 6: make sure that you maintain those friendships come a lot
- 20:00Speaker 6: better as I've gotten older, Like I have people I've
- 20:03Speaker 6: been friends with for thirty years now, but kind of
- 20:05Speaker 6: that little chunk of my life like growing up to
- 20:09Speaker 6: like through my college years, I haven't been as.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Good about Yeah, oh that's great to know too. I'm
- 20:16Speaker 1: like I need to make sure because it's crazy how
- 20:19Speaker 1: even after like when I graduated, how like busy life
- 20:23Speaker 1: gets and like you don't realize you're all starting different jobs,
- 20:26Speaker 1: like you're all doing different things, and now people move
- 20:29Speaker 1: different places, and so just like making time to like yeah,
- 20:34Speaker 1: like reach out.
- 20:35Speaker 6: To like the people that to maintain those friendships as
- 20:38Speaker 6: hard and I feel like I did it for about
- 20:40Speaker 6: ten years. So when we were all in the you know,
- 20:43Speaker 6: kind of still partying stage skate that come out of college,
- 20:45Speaker 6: still super social, then a lot of us you know,
- 20:49Speaker 6: met people. So then we were in the wedding stage
- 20:51Speaker 6: and you got together.
- 20:52Speaker 5: For weddings, and then we were kind of in the
- 20:54Speaker 5: baby stage a little bit.
- 20:55Speaker 6: And I think that's about when it faded, because when
- 20:58Speaker 6: you're in the baby stage is when it gets really
- 21:00Speaker 6: busy and you know, your life revolves around your kids
- 21:03Speaker 6: instead of your social life.
- 21:05Speaker 5: And that's when I kind of lost touch.
- 21:07Speaker 6: So the first ten years after college, I think I
- 21:09Speaker 6: was good and then you know, then it kind of
- 21:11Speaker 6: really lagged and I feel bad. I feel like I
- 21:13Speaker 6: wish I had maintained you know, some of those relationships.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Yeah. Do you think that the sisterhood you experienced is
- 21:20Speaker 1: the same as what like young women experienced today.
- 21:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it is.
- 21:25Speaker 6: You know, I think like one of the special things
- 21:27Speaker 6: about being in a sorority is it's about the friendship,
- 21:30Speaker 6: but it's also like, and I didn't realize this probably
- 21:32Speaker 6: until much later in life, that it kind of prepares
- 21:35Speaker 6: you for life a little bit. It teaches you how
- 21:37Speaker 6: to kind of you know, not everything about the sorority
- 21:40Speaker 6: is you know, your social meeting frag GUYE or going
- 21:43Speaker 6: to parties. You know, there's other things about friendships that
- 21:46Speaker 6: you're learning because you're living with all these girls. And
- 21:50Speaker 6: you know, there's also that the whole philanthropic element about it.
- 21:54Speaker 6: Everybody has their philanthropy and every sort he does. And
- 21:57Speaker 6: that's kind of when that first became an important in
- 22:00Speaker 6: my life, and it's I've maintained that throughout my life now,
- 22:03Speaker 6: Like philanthropy is very important to me. I've been on
- 22:05Speaker 6: a lot of boards, I do a lot of functions.
- 22:06Speaker 5: I still do them.
- 22:07Speaker 6: Chalk and I are about to do one in Kansas.
- 22:10Speaker 6: I just did one for the American Association in February.
- 22:13Speaker 6: I do paning Credic Cancer. I did that in April.
- 22:15Speaker 6: So like that part of my life all started when
- 22:18Speaker 6: I was in my sorority.
- 22:20Speaker 1: That's so cool. I love that you've like stuck with that.
- 22:24Speaker 1: That's amazing.
- 22:25Speaker 5: And I don't think I would have ever known that.
- 22:27Speaker 6: Like, I didn't grow up with a lot of money,
- 22:28Speaker 6: so my parents didn't you know, do philanthropic things. We
- 22:31Speaker 6: were just paying their mortgage, you know, like it was
- 22:33Speaker 6: that wasn't part of our life. So I learned that
- 22:36Speaker 6: kind of in my sorority and then you know, it
- 22:38Speaker 6: was fortunate enough to have some resources and do now
- 22:41Speaker 6: that I can, you know, do these things that are
- 22:43Speaker 6: important in the world. And you know, it's not just
- 22:45Speaker 6: about me buying like a new purse. You know, sometimes
- 22:48Speaker 6: I think I should probably get this to charity. I
- 22:49Speaker 6: don't need another new purse.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, that's amazing. Now, that's cool that that that
- 22:54Speaker 1: being in a sorority, that's what sparked that for you.
- 22:58Speaker 5: That's really yeah, yeah, a little bit.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Yeah, is there any advice you would give people who
- 23:02Speaker 1: are graduating college about like maintaining relationships and friendships as
- 23:11Speaker 1: they grow up.
- 23:13Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, you never know.
- 23:18Speaker 6: Which person is going to be the one that is
- 23:21Speaker 6: going to need you or you're going to need So
- 23:25Speaker 6: I feel like you have to be very.
- 23:28Speaker 5: You know, as much as you as much as time
- 23:30Speaker 5: you have.
- 23:31Speaker 6: You know that you aren't spending like you know, with
- 23:33Speaker 6: your kids or with your spouse or whatever. Maintaining relationships
- 23:36Speaker 6: should be like the next one down, So family first, family, religion,
- 23:40Speaker 6: those kinds of things first, and the next one like
- 23:42Speaker 6: those friendships, because those are the things that will get
- 23:44Speaker 6: you through the hard times. Those are the really ones
- 23:46Speaker 6: that are going to help you find jobs, those are
- 23:48Speaker 6: the ones that may end up being your kids friends' parents.
- 23:51Speaker 6: There's so many like things in life that come from
- 23:55Speaker 6: different directions that if you maintain friendships, it'll all come
- 24:00Speaker 6: back if you if you make that effort, it will
- 24:02Speaker 6: all come back tenfold.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah, oh I love that.
- 24:06Speaker 5: It's true, and I think I you know, once again,
- 24:08Speaker 5: I'm telling you this. You're so young.
- 24:10Speaker 6: I wish I had done all these things that I'm
- 24:12Speaker 6: telling you now. When I was younger, I didn't do that,
- 24:14Speaker 6: And now I am so much better about maintaining friendships
- 24:17Speaker 6: and about making sure I reach out, you know, even
- 24:20Speaker 6: people from the Bachelor, you know, you know the experience,
- 24:23Speaker 6: you spend so much, like a really important, you know,
- 24:26Speaker 6: life changing time with them, and then the show ends
- 24:29Speaker 6: and you're done, and you know, you think, oh.
- 24:33Speaker 5: My god, these people are always going to be in
- 24:34Speaker 5: my life. And then all sudden you're back home and
- 24:36Speaker 5: they're not in your life.
- 24:37Speaker 6: And you know, I zoom like with Carrie Fatman, the stylist,
- 24:41Speaker 6: probably twice a month at least.
- 24:44Speaker 1: He's so sweet.
- 24:45Speaker 5: He's the best, isn't he. I don't know if you
- 24:48Speaker 5: ever met Alicia Gupta.
- 24:50Speaker 6: I was on the ash TV show with her, and
- 24:54Speaker 6: she and I became really good friends, and I zoomed
- 24:56Speaker 6: with her every once in a while, like, and the
- 24:59Speaker 6: great thing.
- 25:00Speaker 5: About social media is you can zoom with people you know.
- 25:02Speaker 6: You can see today, we'll grab a glass of wine,
- 25:05Speaker 6: Alicia and I will and we'll sit on the pun
- 25:06Speaker 6: for three hours and like, you know, she's young, but like,
- 25:10Speaker 6: we just have this great friendship. I still keep in
- 25:13Speaker 6: touch with some of the Golden Girls, so with Kathy
- 25:15Speaker 6: and Susan and Nancy and Christina and a couple others,
- 25:19Speaker 6: you know. So I am really much better about keeping
- 25:22Speaker 6: like those relationships that are important to me. I make
- 25:25Speaker 6: sure that I reach out and keep them going.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that's great advice too. Thank you so much for
- 25:32Speaker 1: coming on. It was great talking with you.
- 25:34Speaker 5: Oh my pleasure.
