- 1:38Hello everybody. Welcome back to the random
- 1:42Heathen ramblings podcast. Thank you to everyone who comes
- 1:48back and listened to or watched as these things every week,
- 1:51seeing a lot of positive growth. Lot of great interaction with,
- 1:57you know, the the videos and the content that I've been putting
- 2:00that lately. So I do want to just start this
- 2:02episode right off of the, RIP by saying thank you.
- 2:06Thank you all for helping contribute to the production of
- 2:10this. Of this podcast, I think
- 2:12between, you know, stuff that's going to come up between now,
- 2:16and the end of season 3, plus, whatever.
- 2:18I've already got listed from all of your wonderful suggestions.
- 2:22We've got enough content to definitely finish out season
- 2:26three and probably start season four.
- 2:29So, a lot of the stuff that I'm going to be talking about in the
- 2:33remaining episodes of season 3 are going to be Thanks to you,
- 2:39thanks to all you people. So thank you again.
- 2:42Once once more for that, I just before I started hitting record,
- 2:47I was actually, I was getting everything set up and I was just
- 2:49about ready to, you know, start recording.
- 2:52And I got a call from my brother Jean who is going through a
- 3:00rough time. You know, this time last year
- 3:04his father passed away due to complications of covid-19 and
- 3:13you know, I talked about in the last podcast, about the events
- 3:18of Shadow Moot and how my, my, my head space and where I was
- 3:26for that ritual for their hell bloat was unlike anything I'd
- 3:31experienced before and how it all kind of lined up with when
- 3:35genes father, had passed away last year because he passed away
- 3:38on Halloween, which that which is Sunday last year and it was
- 3:45You know, the weeks leading up to that that I was, you know,
- 3:48working in my own way to kind of help Jane, you know, through any
- 3:54sort of because he was asking, was kind of kind of like a call
- 3:56to action as it were to anybody and everybody from all faiths
- 3:59all religious views for prayers for healing for all kinds of
- 4:05things. And I remember this, the effort
- 4:09that I made, you know, last year leak prior to his father's
- 4:12passing You know, was was a very powerful attempt on my part to
- 4:16reach help, you know, and having not reached that far.
- 4:22But then this year having made it, there was very profound.
- 4:26And then he called me tonight, right?
- 4:28Before I'm recording to talk about some other things, we
- 4:30said, hey, how much time you have and I said, well for you, I
- 4:32mean, take whatever time I need. He's so he he had a short, you
- 4:40know, Memoir to his father that he wrote.
- 4:43He was going to present to a bunch of people this coming
- 4:47weekend during a whatever they were going to do like a memorial
- 4:51bike ride because because Gene and his dad and a lot of the
- 4:55people that were friends of theirs all ride bikes, you know,
- 5:00they were going to do a memorial ride.
- 5:01There's there's pending inclement weather coming.
- 5:04True and they canceled the ride. But this Memoir.
- 5:09This, this this this piece that Gene wrote for his dad.
- 5:13Dad, he shared it with me and I found out that I was just the
- 5:17fourth person to have heard it since he wrote it and man.
- 5:21Oh man, let me tell you what beautifully written beautifully
- 5:24were rated and it was a true honor to get to hear that going
- 5:29into you know this and talking on a podcast in front of you
- 5:35know all of you. People hearing him talk to me
- 5:38over the phone sharing what he shared while that's not going to
- 5:43be the top. Consider his podcast.
- 5:44It definitely put me into a very like a state of mind of just it
- 5:51all the emotions that he conveyed through that Memoir
- 5:56through, what he wrote really resonated with me, you know, the
- 6:01calmness, the anxiety, the, the sorrow just, everything, just so
- 6:06many things that you that one would experience when they lose
- 6:10their parent. I haven't lost mine yet.
- 6:15It's going to come one day, but hearing and feeling the emotions
- 6:20that he conveyed. It's like I was right there with
- 6:23him. So for everybody that's
- 6:27listening and watching you know the memorial ride for his dad's
- 6:31name was Jean. Also if he was known by his
- 6:35friends and his and his closest people as the wizard and the
- 6:40memorial ride that was going to happen this weekend.
- 6:43That isn't happening this weekend.
- 6:44I would just Maybe just put this out here that whatever you do
- 6:48this weekend, if you're so inclined and if you, you know,
- 6:52can think of to raise a glass, raise a drink, give a toast to
- 6:57the wizard Jeanne step. All right, so what are we going
- 7:04to be talking about this week comes from a post that I made a
- 7:09couple of weeks. Back asking what should I
- 7:11podcast about this week? And again I've got a lot of
- 7:16great suggestions all of which I'm going to be getting to
- 7:19eventually but the one that I wanted to talk about this week
- 7:22comes from Robert editor. So thank you Robert who he
- 7:28commented and said have you or sorry how have you grown with
- 7:32your animal philia? Once known connecting with and
- 7:39fairing forth with it, your philia is one of my favorite
- 7:44topics. Thank you, Robert for the
- 7:47suggestion for the, for the great idea to talk about that on
- 7:53this episode. So this episode is faring forth
- 7:56with or philia and actually have a pretty neat.
- 8:01I have several need stories with regards to this but I'm going to
- 8:08start with what I think. Everybody knows at least anybody
- 8:13that's been listening to my, you know, content for any length of
- 8:15time is the My philia. you know, so I have Come to discover come
- 8:28to find. I should say the that my philia
- 8:33is a heron. And for those, that may be
- 8:36wondering what the philia. What we're talking about by
- 8:39philia, another word that might get Used to describe what the
- 8:46philia is and Norris perspective, things is fetch.
- 8:50So it's quite often a part of the Soul complex. that is been
- 8:56used or mentioned in Source material as this part of the
- 9:02soul that can Travel outside of the body, be a guide to be a
- 9:09protector. It quite often manifests itself
- 9:12as an animal, but it's tied to your ancestors.
- 9:18So there's an, it's usually if it's if it's in person form, its
- 9:26A human female form. but for me, my filia has been represented in
- 9:37the form of a heron and I go to the river, a lot, you guys have
- 9:42seen a lot of my videos and content that I post on like
- 9:46YouTube and all this, that I'm pulling up a story that I'm
- 9:51going to read. So just bear with me where I see
- 9:54the Heron that I share space and time and coexist with the Heron
- 9:58on my on my River walks, or the time that I'm spending on the
- 10:02river, right? Well, when Robert had asked
- 10:08about the, how am I faring with it, right?
- 10:11How am I dealing with the? How am I progressing?
- 10:16Since finding this philia, right?
- 10:19Well, the philia kind of found me and it's an interesting
- 10:22progression of things where I haven't in my whole life and I'm
- 10:27going to be 38 next month. In my whole life, I haven't had
- 10:34That I would consider at least a close Affinity to herons, right?
- 10:38I don't recall ever in my in my youth growing up with all of the
- 10:43times that I spent in the woods and swamps and the rivers and
- 10:47creeks and going fishing on lakes and all this, you know,
- 10:51all the wild all the time that I spent out in the wild you know,
- 10:55hiking Hunting Fishing Camping whatever I've never really felt
- 11:03like, you know, I could have said like the the feel you.
- 11:06I feel you my animal spirit if you want to call it as such was
- 11:10was a heron and is a little bit different than just an animal
- 11:13spirit or an animal totem. I think because again, it has
- 11:16ties to your ancestry. But one interesting thing, an
- 11:20interesting story that I did want to mention is you see in
- 11:22the background here by my chair or on the on the chair that that
- 11:26that fur that's hanging. That's a gray fox and I got that
- 11:32gray fox skin from a lady who when I was living in New York
- 11:38was living in a an old mink farm showroom.
- 11:45There was years and years long before I was ever born, like
- 11:49back in the 60s, 70s, 80s, right there was a gentleman there who
- 11:53would Farm minks and and make apparel like fur coats hats and
- 11:59stuff. For ladies actually did a lot of
- 12:02very had a lot of high-end clientele.
- 12:04So actors people that I've become pretty famous at the time
- 12:09and I don't remember some of his clientele, but they were, they
- 12:13weren't just like, you know, Broadway actors that nobody had
- 12:17heard of, you know, there was some there's some pretty
- 12:19well-known clientele that he had.
- 12:20And this lady was is one of his wives had again, not really kept
- 12:28the farm running as a mink farm, but she had all this, you know,
- 12:30she worked in animal Furs so she was very, very very good at
- 12:35making hats and Scarves and things with the remains of
- 12:41animal fur so she would do like things like make or rabbit and
- 12:46deer and other other Critters. But she had this fox.
- 12:53So she had I think maybe trapped it or something because they can
- 12:59be kind of a menace. Especially when like we have
- 13:01Farm farms nearby like chickens and whatnot.
- 13:04Foxes can tend to be a A pest, you know?
- 13:07And they need to be, I guess controlled to a degree.
- 13:11Anyway, the that's a gray fox so gray, foxes and red, foxes fall
- 13:18under different animal categories.
- 13:20You know, the gray. Foxes is actually in the feline
- 13:23family. They're more cat-like, they
- 13:25climb up trees. They they're, they're their
- 13:28voices, more feline. Whereas the red foxes favors,
- 13:32the canine side of the family, they also have a kind Of a weird
- 13:36voice to. They kind of like yep and laugh
- 13:37or whatever. But there are definitely more
- 13:39canine. They don't climb up the trees
- 13:40and stuff that I know of and it was interesting because I don't
- 13:46remember the circumstances. I might have been like a
- 13:47birthday present or something that she had given it to me for
- 13:52or might have just been a random gift because she knew how much I
- 13:54was into like wild life. I used to have a whole like
- 13:57dresser full of nothing but the remains of animals I had deer
- 14:03bones. I had All's, I had raccoons.
- 14:07I had a whole steer skull from the farm that I had worked on
- 14:12because we used to raise Slaughter and butcher, our own
- 14:15beef cattle. I had vultures, I had turkey
- 14:21Crow, woodchucks. I mean, I had I had a lot of
- 14:25things. Just, I wouldn't say like
- 14:28carelessly strewn about on my top of my dresser.
- 14:30It was it was more of like a display kind of like a museum.
- 14:34Matter of fact, as I recall my kid, We everybody called Jesse's
- 14:37dead things Museum or dead things collection.
- 14:40And so I guess she thought this would be a more appealing
- 14:43addition to the collection, you know, something of a you know
- 14:46the the color of his fur you know it wasn't just bone,
- 14:50actually had a coyote skull with the skin and everything on it
- 14:52talking about things that I had and so when I got it you know
- 14:56out it was I was a young teenager and I was at the same
- 15:00time during around that time of my life going to these Private
- 15:05classes and learning a Chinese martial art called singing
- 15:09singing. He is an internal Chinese
- 15:13martial art. It's not, it's not like, you
- 15:17know, Wing Chun or or some of the other like more I don't
- 15:22know, karate style. It's an internal art.
- 15:26So there's a lot of focus on your posture, your breathing
- 15:31internal like building your internal strength more.
- 15:35More so than your outer strength, having a strong core
- 15:37having strong, internal your internal organs.
- 15:40So, like a lot of the exercises that we could do to prepare for
- 15:43our martial arts, training was like almost an hour long of just
- 15:47breathing exercises stances, postures.
- 15:52Qigong is is a is what we did for like an hour before we ever
- 15:57did any of the katas, if you want to call that, they weren't
- 16:00called that in Chinese. But like the forms, the the, the
- 16:04sparring, the practices, and That it was learned.
- 16:07It was all about learning the internal system and part of that
- 16:10internal system was identifying and cultivating, an animal
- 16:16spirit and none of us would figure our own Animal Spirits
- 16:21out, the person who would give us that animal spirit with our
- 16:25was, our was our teacher. And everyone had a different
- 16:31one, like there was a fellow there who was a gorilla or an
- 16:33ape. There was another fellow there
- 16:37and usually like they're some of them, some people would have
- 16:41like a multiple multiple animals.
- 16:45So like I know one guy was A tiger.
- 16:51And Abby, now that may sound crazy, but it was like a
- 16:56reflection of their of fighting style, right?
- 16:58So that's where the animal spirit that would come out, was
- 17:02manifested through the combative Arts, you know, the martial
- 17:06arts, the practices that we would go through your animals,
- 17:10Spirits, or Spirit would come out in your style.
- 17:13So you know the ferocity of a tiger and the Relentless, like
- 17:18pinpoint accuracy of a be right was one guy.
- 17:21And I became the fox. I was the fox.
- 17:24The reason why I was the fox was because whenever we would Spar
- 17:31the guy that would teach us his name was Jimmy.
- 17:33He was always like, I never know, he's like I'm doing this
- 17:36for 40 years you know. So he had a lot of experience
- 17:39with a lot of different styles. Multiple black belts Decades of
- 17:44experience knowledge who knows how many fights he'd actually
- 17:47been in but the guy was a it was it was amazing.
- 17:49You wouldn't know it to look at him but he He was he was truly
- 17:52amazing. He's like, in a man.
- 17:53I've been doing this for a long time and he said, but whenever I
- 17:57grab ahold of you and we get to do in our sparring, he's like,
- 17:59you always figure out a way to Be slick, you know, and kind of
- 18:05wiggle your butt wiggle, your way out of a bad situation.
- 18:08He said, you remind me of a fox and how, you know, it's hard to
- 18:10catch a fox and it makes it difficult to catch them because
- 18:15they're so widely there. Sly, you know, he's like so
- 18:18you're the fox. So for the years I was like I'm
- 18:22a fox, you know. And But I never liked encounter,
- 18:27foxes in my walks in the woods, or never, you know, had moments
- 18:32where I got to share space with a fox.
- 18:35Because again, they are so, you know, Elusive and now all these
- 18:40years later, Not doing the martial arts training anymore,
- 18:47right? Not really procuring or
- 18:48preserving that essence of the animal.
- 18:51It was like it was it was a it was a part of me that came out
- 18:54and that was identified through a very specific practice and
- 18:59through a very specific thing that we were doing but it
- 19:03nothing continued to I guess cultivate that or to nurture
- 19:07that now very recently. The Heron I've encountered
- 19:12During it and herons are elusive as well, you know, like they
- 19:15don't just don't just walk up to her and say, hey, what's up, you
- 19:19know, dear and some other Wildlife or they'd be as they
- 19:22become more accustomed to human existence and sharing space.
- 19:25You know, you can very easily build trust with with deer and
- 19:32even some other like songbirds or whatever.
- 19:34And just have that, you know, connection where you're almost
- 19:38face-to-face and close to one another herons, not so much now
- 19:42I've I've gotten fairly close to him, because I'm out there so
- 19:45often because I've seen their, I hope I've gotten the sense that
- 19:48we recognize each other, at least.
- 19:51When I'm in the areas that they are familiar with seeing me
- 19:53again. Now, when I go and places of the
- 19:55river that I've not been very frequently and I see a heron,
- 19:59the distance between us is much greater and I can't get nearly
- 20:01as close because they're like well that doesn't belong here,
- 20:04you know this you know, blonde humanoid, whatever doesn't
- 20:08belong here. I've not seen that thing here in
- 20:10this part of the world before. So I'm going to stay and I only
- 20:12keep my Distance. But the the relationship that
- 20:17I've built with the Heron has definitely been one of where
- 20:23I've discovered my philia. When I go places, when I, when I
- 20:30meditate, when I walk the river, even if I don't see the Heron, I
- 20:34know the Heron sees me because they are, they are Watchers
- 20:37there. They're like the guardian Spirit
- 20:38of this area. I can't tell you how many times
- 20:42I walk in the river and they'll be one nearby.
- 20:44That one hour, I'll be sitting by the river and then they'll
- 20:46fly over or I'll catch sight of them at different points in
- 20:51time. So, you know, getting getting to
- 20:55the point in my life, where I know that that is my philia has
- 20:59definitely been a revelation for me and an important part of my
- 21:03growth as a pagan because going back to how the philia connect
- 21:09to your, with your ancestry, my ancestry includes.
- 21:16And I don't know any much more specifically than this, but
- 21:18Algonquin Nation Indian Native American, you know, Indian
- 21:21indigenous Indian of North America.
- 21:24So the Algonquin tribes that have like I mean Algonquin
- 21:28nation is kind of an umbrella term for the north-northeast
- 21:35indigenous people and I don't know that much better than what
- 21:39my father's told me. It's been hard for me to get any
- 21:42really good stuff out of, you know, like Meaning, genealogy or
- 21:46information, but I was told my father who was told by his
- 21:50cousin, his cousin had done a bunch of, like family research,
- 21:55on their side of the family, like genealogical work before
- 21:57stuff like, you know, 20, was it ancestry.com or some of these
- 22:02other, you know, ancestry tracing sites before any of that
- 22:06like this cousin of his did a bunch of research and
- 22:09apparently, we have some great, great, great ancestor.
- 22:15Great, great, great, female ancestor, of all things which is
- 22:20again, why I feel like the Heron is my philia.
- 22:24So a great great, great, great, whatever.
- 22:27Grandmother of sorts was royalty.
- 22:30She was, she was like the daughter of an Indian chief.
- 22:36So, a princess, if you want to make call that or whatever, they
- 22:38would call them back then and she married a European Settler,
- 22:46and then somewhere down the line.
- 22:47Like, there's that's where we come in my dad's side of the
- 22:50family come in. So Algonquin.
- 22:53And, and those people were marched, while there's like they
- 22:56lived in areas that were swamped and Marsh.
- 23:00So, the Heron was a again, thinking back on, like,
- 23:04ancestral connection and that it was a female ancestor.
- 23:08Every like all the, all the, all the lines connected, all the
- 23:11dots, you know, connected and everything lines up.
- 23:15And I am going to read you. This really neat story about the
- 23:20heroin and it's a it's a story of Algonquin, I guess,
- 23:28background. So it goes that and what's
- 23:33really interesting is it involves a wolf.
- 23:35So I'm going to I'm kind of kind of bringing this back into the
- 23:38whole Fox thing. You're just a moment but the
- 23:42story goes that big blue heron was standing in the marsh
- 23:46looking at his reflection in the water and he raised his black
- 23:49crested head to listen to, little white weasels had come
- 23:53along to the river. They were mother and son.
- 23:57When they saw blue heron, they stopped to look what a beautiful
- 24:01big bird. Person said the one said the
- 24:03son. He is called Blue Heron.
- 24:06He carries his head high. Yes.
- 24:10Mother. He is tall as a tree where I so
- 24:12tall I could carry you across this Swift River.
- 24:17Blue Heron was pleased to hear himself.
- 24:19So praised. He'd like to hear.
- 24:21Other say that he was big, he bent down low and spoke to the
- 24:25two. I will help you go across, come
- 24:28down to where you see that old tree lying in the Stream, I will
- 24:33lie down in the water at the end and put my bill deep into the
- 24:36bank, on the other side you to run across the tree.
- 24:40And use my body as a bridge and you will get to the other side.
- 24:46They all went to the old tree lying in the water, blue heron
- 24:49lay down in the water, at the end and stuck.
- 24:51His bill deep into the bank, on the other side, mother and son,
- 24:55whiteweasel ran lightly and quickly across the log over blue
- 24:59heron and were safe and dry on the other side.
- 25:03They thanked Blue Heron and said they would tell all the persons
- 25:07in the woods how fine Blue Heron was then they went on their way.
- 25:14Old wolf had been standing on the riverbank watching how the
- 25:18weasels had gotten across What a fine way.
- 25:21It would be for me to start across the river.
- 25:23I am old and my bones ache. When Blue Heron came back to the
- 25:29marsh wolf said to him. Now I know why you blue herons
- 25:33are in the marsh so you can be a bridge for persons to cross the
- 25:37river. I want to go across but I am old
- 25:40and my bones hurt lie down. Down in the water for me, so I
- 25:44can cross. Blue Heron was angry.
- 25:47He didn't like being called a bridge old wolf saw.
- 25:51He had spoken foolish words and decided to use his honeyed
- 25:55words. You are big and strong Blue
- 25:59Heron. And that is why your body is
- 26:01such a fine Bridge. You could carry me across like a
- 26:04feather. Blue Heron smiled at Wolf and
- 26:08said, old wolf, get on my back, and I'll carry you across.
- 26:13Wolf grin from ear to ear thinking how easily he had
- 26:16tricked Blue Heron. He jumped on the birds back in
- 26:20Heron went into the Rushing River when he got to the middle.
- 26:24He stopped friend wolf said, blue heron, you've made a
- 26:28mistake. I am not strong enough to carry
- 26:31you across for that. You need to herons.
- 26:35I can carry you only halfway now.
- 26:37You must get another Heron to carry you.
- 26:39The rest of the way. He gave his body, a strong
- 26:42twist, and wolf fell into the river into the water.
- 26:47You wait, here wolf for another Heron to come and carry you to
- 26:50the other side. Then he flew into the marsh.
- 26:55The water ran swiftly no Heron came.
- 26:58So where did Wolf go to the bottom of the river?
- 27:03since that day, no wolf has ever trusted a heron So that story
- 27:12again was like it's a story of a has Algonquin origin and I found
- 27:18it online. I'll link it down in the show
- 27:21notes. If you guys want to follow and
- 27:23read it because there's some more neat stuff about herons
- 27:25there, too. But obviously boxes aren't
- 27:30wolves, right? But the fox was never my filia,
- 27:34the fox had nothing connected to me.
- 27:36It was just a manifestation of how I would fight, or how I
- 27:43would figure out my way out of a tricky situation.
- 27:45You know, there was, there was Essences of the foxes nature and
- 27:49the foxes wiliness, or slyness that would come through and my
- 27:54fighting style but it wasn't ever connected to me through
- 27:59ancestry. Like the Heron is, And seeing
- 28:02again seeing how the Heron has made himself manifest to me at
- 28:08different points in time, while I'm in the river.
- 28:10And even when I'm not in the river, it's like, you know, I
- 28:13step into the river and I become the Heron, like my senses become
- 28:17more in tune. I go slower, I watch.
- 28:22I look for things, I notice things that weren't there
- 28:25before, and I really take on the embodiment of the Heron.
- 28:30So, in the physical sense, You know, stepping into a realm
- 28:33that's not my own right? So walking into the river,
- 28:36stepping into the river. It's literally stepping outside
- 28:40of my Conscious space. You know like my normal space.
- 28:45I don't live in the river. I'm not a water bird, literally.
- 28:48But you have to become like this, the data to make it
- 28:53through there, so all the river walks and they even in, you
- 28:55know, the weather where it's becoming colder.
- 28:57I still, you know, make it down there, maybe not as frequently,
- 29:00but I'll still go down there and so, you know, looking at, as
- 29:05like physically, stepping into a different Realm, You can take
- 29:10that to the metaphysical meaning of spirit travel and, and
- 29:17connecting to the Heron, as a, as a, as the fetch part, you
- 29:22know, the that, that spirit, that travels, that part of your
- 29:25soul that travels in shamanic, rituals and spirit work like
- 29:31that, which I've become more in tune with very much recently.
- 29:37So fair and forth with our philia.
- 29:39You know, how have I been ever since finding it?
- 29:43It's been, it's been so holistic and such a fulfilling experience
- 29:50to have that not wondering anymore.
- 29:52Not being like well, what's my? And again it's more than just my
- 29:56spirit animal because it doesn't mean entirely the same thing in
- 30:01that context. It's again, it's more of that
- 30:04ancestral. Spirit that can take on the form
- 30:08of of an animal. And I know that I think, in some
- 30:12of the sources, you know, it takes on a very specific form or
- 30:16in some of the sagas where you hear about it, it takes on a
- 30:18very specific form but for me, I don't know.
- 30:22Like, there's no question about the Heron is, is a, is my female
- 30:27ancestors and I call him him say him, but He it she whatever
- 30:34doesn't really matter at this point, but the Heron is
- 30:39definitely been a companion, a guide, a mentor.
- 30:47All of those things, you know, something that is really
- 30:50fulfilled, my my spirituality as of late, you know, and it's
- 30:56crazy to me that it took all this time to manifest itself
- 31:01with me, nearly 40 years, old more of you know halfway through
- 31:06my life at the prime of my life, whatever you want to call it
- 31:08that. Just now figuring this out or
- 31:14it's just now making itself manifest, you know, someone
- 31:18during for all of you people that are listening and watching
- 31:21Robert maybe since you know this is one of your favorite topics.
- 31:25How long has it been since you or have you yet discovered your
- 31:31philia has your filia made him or herself manifest to you.
- 31:34And what is your filia, who is your philia, how have you
- 31:39Incorporated this into your, you know, spirituality your
- 31:43practices and how have you kind of Fared forth with the philia,
- 31:49I would be definitely interested in curious to know and I'm
- 31:54excited to continue to see what happens with my philia.
- 32:00And see where we go together. Where he or she takes me when
- 32:03I'm I don't know, viewing the world through different eyes or
- 32:08walking the river in different legs or flying the air, you
- 32:13know, on different wings. it's a like I said, it's such a, it's
- 32:19such an incredibly fulfilling experience to to be Familiar to
- 32:26have that familiarity. With the with another living
- 32:31being that is not human, you know?
- 32:33Like when I walked in the river before and I've Literally
- 32:39crawled through the water on my belly, like, floated down almost
- 32:44like like a weasel. Almost, you know, like coming up
- 32:47onto this this Heron and talking to him as I come up and I'm not
- 32:51moving you know just I'm kind of watching me and then walking on
- 32:55my two legs as the Heron as peers, you know, him looking
- 33:00upon me as if he's looking upon a familiar. being, you know, not
- 33:06letting me get too close because clearly, I'm not a heroin, but
- 33:10letting me get close enough where We recognize each other
- 33:15and we feel comfortable enough to be that close to each other,
- 33:19calling their name and then watching you and looking at you,
- 33:22you know, not just making a noise and having them watch.
- 33:24You. But like having a conversation
- 33:26and then putting their focus on you giving you the time of day,
- 33:31the the attention that indicates that there's a connection there,
- 33:37you know, that you're that, you've made a connection.
- 33:40With. One of the Vets here.
- 33:43I mean that's another way to look at it, you know, like
- 33:47they're yes that's a that's definitely for me, a physical
- 33:50manifestation of my ancestral filia but it is and be
- 33:55embodiment of the land of it here. you know, this Guardian
- 34:00spirit that lives walks eats, breathes sleeps, does everything
- 34:05that they do on this river that I You know, visit and frequently
- 34:12and come in and reconnect with myself and parts of myself.
- 34:17You know, whenever I need to recharge from the day, whenever
- 34:22I need to kind of step away from the modern bologna and Bs, that
- 34:28encumbers our lives. You know, whether it's work or
- 34:31whatever. You know, when I go down there
- 34:33and I stepped my feet into that space and walk those Those those
- 34:39Waters. I had become something
- 34:43different. so, it has definitely been a great Progression in my
- 34:53spirituality. I'm so glad that first of all, I
- 34:57started doing this, these River walks this year, you know, like
- 35:00this is, you know, I've gone down there before and I've, you
- 35:02know, kind of hung out, but I really immersed myself into that
- 35:06practice and really became a daily almost daily ritual for me
- 35:14in despite of the blistering heat of the summer.
- 35:17And now as we get into the cooler colder months, you know,
- 35:21living that Experience as the heroine does year and in, you
- 35:25know, year in and out in the cold and the heat, really
- 35:29getting to get the full experience, you know, not just
- 35:33doing it when it feels good outside.
- 35:35But doing it, when it's doesn't feel so good and then really
- 35:39getting in there. And, and having that moment to
- 35:43reflect and connect in ways that you wouldn't otherwise.
- 35:46So, thank you, Robert editor for the suggestion for bringing it
- 35:52up, and recommending that we talked about this, I hope you
- 35:55all enjoyed that story and I hope you all found some value in
- 35:59me, talking about my feeling and that it has helped you.
- 36:02Maybe put your mind in a place and put your feet in a Enter
- 36:07your, you know, thoughts in a space to connect, with the feel
- 36:14yourself, your philia. I will say that.
- 36:18You don't have to force it. If you don't know who your
- 36:22philia is, what your philia is yet, give it time.
- 36:26Meditate on it, find find places where you feel the most at home
- 36:33away from the modern conveniences of life, right?
- 36:37Right. For some it might be the woods
- 36:41for some it might be the ocean for others, it may be a desert
- 36:45or the mountains. Or the rivers.
- 36:51You know, might be in climbing, trees might be in her climbing
- 36:55rocks. Might be in the day-to-day
- 36:59things that you do, you know. Maybe it's not even just being
- 37:01out in the wild. Maybe it's out there gardening
- 37:03or maybe it's out there. Maybe it's, you know, doing
- 37:09crafting of sorts sewing, weaving.
- 37:12You know, I think of, I think of such amazing spirits, that
- 37:17exist, the Weavers, you know, spiders and the like that that
- 37:22we've such amazingly intricate webs In such a short period of
- 37:27time, you know? Or, I don't know, I saw
- 37:34something recently, like my wife, she loves otters, she
- 37:37loves a lots of other. She loves animals in general,
- 37:40you know, but she shared something and she saw a picture
- 37:43of an order. That said that otters have this
- 37:46pouch of skin or flesh or whatever on their chest where
- 37:49they keep rocks and things that they collect.
- 37:51And I didn't know that about him but she loves collecting various
- 37:55gems and stones and rocks. I'm like maybe should maybe hers
- 37:59as the otter, right? So I don't like think about it.
- 38:02I think it's, I think it's a fun thing to dwell on to meditate on
- 38:06and to find your philia, whoever or whatever he she or it might
- 38:13be. So that's going to conclude this
- 38:16week's episode. I hope you all enjoyed it.
