- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter six, Pinocchio falls asleep with his feet on a footwarmer,
- 0:06Speaker 1: and awakens the next day with his feet all burned off.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Pinocchio hated the dark street, but he was so hungry
- 0:15Speaker 1: that in spite of it, he ran out of the house.
- 0:18Speaker 1: The night was pitch black, it thundered, and bright flashes
- 0:22Speaker 1: of lightning. Now it again shot across the sky, turning
- 0:26Speaker 1: it into a sea of fire. An angry wind blew
- 0:31Speaker 1: cold and raised dense clouds of dust, while the tree
- 0:34Speaker 1: shook and moaned in a weird way. Pinocchio was greatly
- 0:40Speaker 1: afraid of thunder and lightning, but the hungry he felt
- 0:44Speaker 1: was far greater than his fear. And a dozen leaps
- 0:48Speaker 1: and bounds he came to the village, tired out, puffing
- 0:51Speaker 1: like a wail, and with tongue hanging. The whole village
- 0:56Speaker 1: was dark and deserted. The stores were closed, the door
- 1:00Speaker 1: the windows in the streets. Not even a dog could
- 1:04Speaker 1: be seen. It seemed the village of the dead. Pinocchio,
- 1:09Speaker 1: in desperation, ran up to a doorway, threw himself upon
- 1:13Speaker 1: the bell, and pulled it wildly, saying to himself, someone
- 1:17Speaker 1: will surely answer that he was right an old man
- 1:22Speaker 1: in a nightcap opened the window and looked out. He
- 1:25Speaker 1: called down angrily, what do you want at this hour
- 1:29Speaker 1: of night? Will you be good enough to give me
- 1:33Speaker 1: a bit of bread? I am hungry. Wait a minute
- 1:37Speaker 1: and I'll come right back, answered the old fellow, thinking
- 1:41Speaker 1: he had to deal with one of those boys who
- 1:43Speaker 1: loved to roam around at night, ringing people's bells while
- 1:45Speaker 1: they are peacefully asleep. After a minute or two, the
- 1:50Speaker 1: same voice cried, get under the window and hold out
- 1:53Speaker 1: your hat. Pinocchio had no hat, but he managed to
- 1:58Speaker 1: get under the window just in time to fill a
- 2:00Speaker 1: shower of ice. Cold water poured down on his poor
- 2:03Speaker 1: wooden head, his shoulders, and over his whole body. He
- 2:08Speaker 1: returned home as wet as a rag and tired out
- 2:11Speaker 1: from weariness and hunger. As he no longer had any
- 2:16Speaker 1: strength left with which to stand, he sat down on
- 2:19Speaker 1: a little stool and put his two feet on the
- 2:22Speaker 1: stove to dry them. There he fell asleep, and while
- 2:27Speaker 1: he slept, his wooden feet began to burn slowly, very slowly,
- 2:32Speaker 1: they blackened and turned to ashes. Pinocchio snored away happily,
- 2:38Speaker 1: as if his feet were not his own. At dawn.
- 2:41Speaker 1: He opened his eyes just as a loud knocking sounded
- 2:44Speaker 1: at the door. Who is it, he called, yawning and
- 2:49Speaker 1: rubbing his eyes. It is I, answered a voice. It
- 2:54Speaker 1: was the voice of geppetto chapter six.
