- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed
- 0:07to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:10I'm your host Andrew McGivern for October 26th.
- 0:13Today is National Pumpkin Day. Celebration of autumn's most
- 0:17iconic symbol happens every year on October 26th, and this
- 0:22holiday honors the versatile pumpkin in all its forms, from
- 0:25Jack O lanterns and decorations to pie soups and that beloved
- 0:30pumpkin spice latte. While the exact origins of
- 0:34National Pumpkin Day are unclear, timing is perfect.
- 0:38Falling just days before Halloween and right in the heart
- 0:42of harvest season, pumpkins have deep American roots, with
- 0:47archaeological evidence showing they were cultivated by
- 0:50indigenous peoples as far back as 7500 to 5500 BC in Mexico.
- 0:57Native Americans valued pumpkins for their versatility and their
- 1:01nutritional value, and they introduced this vital crop to
- 1:05early colonists, helping them survive harsh winters.
- 1:10What makes National Pumpkin Day special is it's celebration of a
- 1:14fruit that's woven into the very fabric of American autumn.
- 1:20From Thanksgiving pies to Halloween Jack O lanterns, from
- 1:23pumpkin patches to fall festivals, it's a day to
- 1:28appreciate this humble gourd that has become synonymous with
- 1:32the season. And today's quote comes from
- 1:35American author Ray Bradbury, who wrote I'm not afraid of
- 1:40Halloween. That's when we can all be
- 1:44ourselves. Bradbury's observation captures
- 1:49something beautiful about the season pumpkins represent.
- 1:52Well, Halloween is all about costumes and pretending to be
- 1:55something else. Pumpkin itself teaches us the
- 1:58opposite lesson, that being yourself in your natural orange
- 2:03glory is pretty spectacular. Think about what makes pumpkins
- 2:09so beloved. They don't try to be anything
- 2:11other than what they are. Brown, orange, proudly
- 2:14imperfect. Each one is unique, different
- 2:17sizes, different shapes, different shades.
- 2:21Yet we celebrate all of them. We place them on porches, carve
- 2:26them into art, bake them into pies.
- 2:29We don't ask pumpkins to be something they're not.
- 2:32Bradbury understood that true celebration comes from
- 2:35authenticity. Just as Halloween gives us
- 2:37permission to express different facets of ourselves, National
- 2:41Pumpkin Day reminds us that the natural, unadorned version of
- 2:45ourselves is worth celebrating, too.
- 2:48The pumpkin in its natural state, before it's carved,
- 2:53before it's transformed, is already perfect.
- 2:58The pumpkin season invites us to be comfortable in our own skin,
- 3:02to embrace the harvest of who we actually are, rather than
- 3:07constantly trying to become something different.
- 3:11So today, embrace the spirit of National Pumpkin Day and
- 3:14Bradbury's wisdom about being yourself.
- 3:18Visit a pumpkin patch if you can, bake something with
- 3:21pumpkin, or simply enjoy the autumn season that pumpkins
- 3:26represent. But more importantly, think
- 3:29about where in your life you're trying too hard to be perfect
- 3:34instead of embracing your authentic, wonderfully unique
- 3:39self. What would you change if you
- 3:41approached yourself with the same appreciation we give to
- 3:44pumpkins, celebrating their quirks, the imperfections and
- 3:50things that make you distinctly you?
- 3:53Remember, every pumpkin gets celebrated, regardless of its
- 3:56shape or size. You deserve that same
- 3:59acceptance, starting with yourself.
- 4:03That's going to do it. For today, I'm Andrew McGivern,
- 4:05signing off for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 4:10Same pod time, same pod stationed with another daily
- 4:16quote.
