- Wyndham Clark closes! This is The Sports Reset for Monday, June 22nd. The story of Sunday was golf: Wyndham Clark won the U.S. Open at 4 under, finishing one shot ahead of Sam Burns and three clear of Tom Kim. At a major, that kind of closing margin is thin enough to keep every shot tense, but Clark still ended the week as the player who got to the finish line. On the LPGA side, Miyu Yamashita took the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give at 17 under, with Lottie Woad also at 17 under and Wei-Ling Hsu two shots back. In men’s tennis, Frances Tiafoe beat Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in the Terra Wortmann Open final, while Francisco Cerundolo rallied past Tommy Paul 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 at the HSBC Championships. In women’s tennis, Linda Noskova beat Jessica Pegula in Berlin, Marie Bouzkova outlasted Emma Navarro in Nottingham, and Mayar Sherif beat Wang Xiyu in Brescia. Looking ahead, Monday’s World Cup group stage gives the day its biggest international lane, with Austria facing Argentina, Iraq meeting France, Senegal taking on Norway, and Algeria playing Jordan. Argentina and France are the headliners there because those matches shape the early tone of their groups right away. In MLB, the New York Yankees try to respond at the Detroit Tigers after losing 4 to 1 on Sunday, while the Los Angeles Dodgers head to the Minnesota Twins after taking a 12 to 1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. The Philadelphia Phillies visit the Washington Nationals after beating the New York Mets 6 to 2, and the Chicago Cubs visit the New York Mets after their Sunday game was rained out. In the WNBA, Phoenix Mercury at Indiana Fever is the matchup to watch, with Chicago Sky at Connecticut Sun, Toronto Tempo at Atlanta Dream, and Dallas Wings at Seattle Storm also on the board.
