- 0:00Welcome , market maestros , to Spy Trader , your goto guide for navigating the financial seas !
- 0:06I'm your host , Captain Cashflow , and it's 6 am on Saturday , July 26th , 2025 , Pacific time .
- 0:14We've just wrapped up another exhilarating week on Wall Street , and let me tell you , it's been quite the ride .
- 0:21The US stock market has been on a tear over the past few days .
- 0:26We've seen major indices like the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite not just tick up , but blast through to new record highs .
- 0:35The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust , ticker SPY , has climbed 0.83% over the past five days and is up an impressive 7.92% yeartodate as of July 24th .
- 0:51Not to be outdone , the Invesco QQQ Trust , QQQ , saw significant inflows of 1.4 billion dollars on July 24th as the Nasdaq soared past 21,000 .
- 1:03QQQ itself has rebounded a massive 40% from its earlyApril low and is up 10% yeartodate as of July 22nd .
- 1:12Even the venerable Dow Jones Industrial Average , tracked by DIA , is nearing its alltime high , climbing over 1% for the week .
- 1:22When we look at sectors , technology and AIrelated stocks are still leading the charge , building on their momentum from previous months .
- 1:30The Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLK , has been the top performer for the week , up 0.42% and an impressive 13.06% yeartodate .
- 1:44Industrials , represented by XLI , are also showing strong performance , and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLF , saw a gain of 0.70% on July 25th .
- 1:57Healthcare , XLV , has been a bit mixed , down 3.05% over the past five days despite some positive signals earlier in the month .
- 2:06Now , for the big picture : what's driving all this optimism ?
- 2:10First off , we're seeing some genuinely robust corporate earnings reports .
- 2:15Roughly 80% of S&P 500 companies have delivered betterthanexpected results for the second quarter .
- 2:22For example , Deckers Outdoor , DECK , jumped 11 to 12% on July 25th after beating expectations , and Newmont , NEM , gained nearly 6% on soaring gold prices and strong earnings .
- 2:35Even Tesla , TSLA , rebounded 3.5% on July 25th after a rough previous day .
- 2:43However , it wasn't all sunshine and roses .
- 2:46Intel , INTC , dropped almost 9% after reporting a secondquarter loss , dragging on the Dow .
- 2:54And Lockheed Martin , LMT , tumbled more than 8% earlier in the week after slashing its profit forecast .
- 3:01On a brighter note , homebuilders like PulteGroup and D.R.
- 3:05Horton saw shares surge 11% and 16% respectively on July 22nd , signaling a recovery in the housing market .
- 3:14Beyond earnings , there's growing hope for a Federal Reserve interest rate cut .
- 3:19While the Fed is widely expected to keep rates unchanged at 4.25 to 4.50% at its lateJuly meeting , the market is sniffing out future cuts , which is generally good for stocks .
- 3:32Easing inflation is also contributing to investor confidence , with the Consumer Price Index showing a 2.67% yearoveryear increase as of June 2025 .
- 3:44Lastly , there's positive sentiment surrounding upcoming US trade deals .
- 3:49With an August 1st deadline for new tariffs approaching , the market is optimistic that major trade deals could be announced beforehand , avoiding significant economic friction .
- 3:59Economic data is also painting a stable picture ; the US economy added 147,000 jobs in June , exceeding estimates , and initial unemployment claims remain low .
- 4:11So , what does this all mean for your portfolio , fearless investor ?
- 4:16The current market , flush with strong earnings and a supportive monetary policy outlook , suggests a cautiously optimistic approach .
- 4:25The S&P 500 and Nasdaq hitting record highs show some powerful bullish momentum , especially in the tech sector .
- 4:32My first recommendation is to maintain your exposure to broad market equities , with a definite tilt towards growth and technology .
- 4:40The continued strength in corporate earnings , especially in tech and AI , is clearly driving performance .
- 4:48The Nasdaq 100 , which QQQ tracks , has outperformed the S&P 500 in seven out of the last ten years , showing its longterm growth potential .
- 4:58Even with elevated valuations , the innovation and earnings power of these companies are just too significant to ignore .
- 5:06For concrete examples , the Invesco QQQ Trust , QQQ , is your goto for concentrated exposure to those big Nasdaq nonfinancial companies , with over 53% in tech .
- 5:19And if you want a more targeted shot at the S&P 500's tech leaders , the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLK , is an excellent choice , leading all sectors this week .
- 5:32Second , you absolutely need to monitor macroeconomic indicators for any shifts in sentiment .
- 5:38While the current vibe is super positive due to Fed rate cut hopes and easing inflation , economic data releases and Federal Reserve decisions remain critical .
- 5:49Any unexpected hawkish signals from the Fed or really negative economic data could trigger market volatility .
- 5:56Keep a close eye on announcements from the Federal Reserve , especially their lateJuly policy meeting , and watch for new economic data releases from the Bureau of Labor Statistics , like the Employment Situation report , and the Bureau of Economic Analysis , for GDP estimates .
- 6:14Next , consider some sector rotation and diversification .
- 6:19While tech is undeniably leading , the market breadth has expanded .
- 6:23Other sectors like industrials , utilities , and financials are also performing well this year , unlike past years where tech sometimes dominated everything .
- 6:34Diversifying across sectors can help mitigate risk if market leadership shifts or if the tech sector hits a bumpy patch .
- 6:43The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLF , is a solid choice given financials are performing well , and the Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLI , offers exposure to that resilient industrial sector .
- 6:59For even broader diversification across the entire US stock market , the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF , VTI , gives you exposure to companies of all sizes , reducing your reliance on just a few leading sectors .
- 7:15Finally , and this is important , exercise caution in overbought sectors and individual stocks .
- 7:21With the S&P 500 and Nasdaq at record highs , some indicators suggest the market might be getting a bit stretched .
- 7:29Individual stocks that have seen massive runs , especially those fueled purely by AI hype without strong underlying fundamentals , could be vulnerable to pullbacks .
- 7:40Just look at Intel's significant drop after disappointing earnings as a recent example .
- 7:46While Nvidia , NVDA , has been a monumental driver of AI growth and just became the world's first 4 trillion dollar company , investors should always be mindful of its stretched valuations and the potential for volatility .
- 8:01Also , be wary of socalled
