• 2:08
Speaker 3: So a lot to get to this morning. I want
• 2:10
Speaker 3: to start off though, with the news room. Jeff Jenkins
• 2:11
Speaker 3: is with us. Jeff, good morning. We had a report
• 2:14
Speaker 3: yesterday of a pretty horrific potential because still an investigation
• 2:20
Speaker 3: child abuse case in Charleston. Talk about him.
• 2:22
Speaker 5: Yeah, So, a young child showed up on the porch
• 2:25
Speaker 5: of a neighbor in the Bridge Road area and had
• 2:28
Speaker 5: been handcuffed. Was handcuffed and said that The child said
• 2:33
Speaker 5: that they had been like that for about twenty four
• 2:34
Speaker 5: hours and had gone to a neighbor's house. Neighbors called police.
• 2:38
Speaker 5: Police came and they ended up arresting a woman identified
• 2:42
Speaker 5: as Laura Southworth, and she was arrested on a child
• 2:47
Speaker 5: abuse and illegal restraint charge. And so if you take
• 2:53
Speaker 5: a closer look at some of the allegations here, the
• 2:56
Speaker 5: child said that she was being punished for had for
• 3:03
Speaker 5: about twenty four hours. She had been punished, and then
• 3:06
Speaker 5: Southworth told police, I guess there's some other kids in
• 3:10
Speaker 5: the house and there's some dispute there and about taking
• 3:12
Speaker 5: their food or some different things, and she couldn't control
• 3:16
Speaker 5: the child, and so that's why, that's why she put
• 3:20
Speaker 5: her in handcuffs. So she is At last check, she
• 3:26
Speaker 5: was in jail in about a ten thousand dollars bond.
• 3:28
Speaker 5: But police start continuing their investigation, and I'm sure Child
• 3:31
Speaker 5: Protective Services obviously was involved after that. So yeah, but
• 3:36
Speaker 5: it all started with the neighbor and some neighbors. Some
• 3:39
Speaker 5: other neighbors had said they didn't know much about it
• 3:42
Speaker 5: or didn't know the family had kept to itself.
• 3:44
Speaker 3: And yeah, I saw one report on television last night
• 3:46
Speaker 3: where they were doing one of the neighbors said that
• 3:48
Speaker 3: they didn't even know that they had kids in the house. Yeah,
• 3:50
Speaker 3: which I mean, that's I mean, if you got kids
• 3:53
Speaker 3: in the house, you see them in the neighborhood or whatever.
• 3:55
Speaker 3: The neighbors had no idea, at least some of them
• 3:57
Speaker 3: did that they even had kids in the house.
• 3:58
Speaker 5: So there might be more coming on this, you don't
• 4:01
Speaker 5: probably know, but no, police are investigating, and they and
• 4:05
Speaker 5: the charges came ox pretty quickly once they you know,
• 4:10
Speaker 5: once they talked to the woman and and you know,
• 4:13
Speaker 5: they found the child in different things.
• 4:14
Speaker 3: So all right, that's where it is, Jeff. I appreciate you.
• 4:17
Speaker 3: We'll be following the story of course, all day on
• 4:19
Speaker 3: air and online as well. I appreciate you being here, man,
• 4:21
Speaker 3: Thanks a lot. See never easy to report on stories
• 4:23
Speaker 3: like that, but our team always does a great job. Jeff,
• 4:25
Speaker 3: I appreciate it. Phone calls of a Dave Allen show,

• 4:39
Speaker 3: friend from Jute find sponsors of the show. Josh, good morning,
• 4:41
Speaker 3: how are you man? Good morning, good to be here.
• 4:43
Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. It's kind of hard to
• 4:44
Speaker 3: follow up that story, but we had We had to
• 4:47
Speaker 3: get Jeff and nearer to talk about that, Josh. For
• 4:50
Speaker 3: those who have not heard you on the show in
• 4:52
Speaker 3: the past. Of course, Jute, as I said, j O
• 4:54
  Speaker 3: O t a fine sponsored to the show. Let's talk
• 4:56
Speaker 3: about the different services offered by Jude.
• 4:58
Speaker 6: So we have any home security, automation, business security and
• 5:02
Speaker 6: automation needs that you would want. So we secure any
• 5:06
Speaker 6: type of a location and we do different smart home
• 5:10
Speaker 6: things like that as.
• 5:10
Speaker 3: Well, and for people who are listening right now that
• 5:13
Speaker 3: are saying, well, you know, I thought about getting a
• 5:16
Speaker 3: security system for my home or for my business, but
• 5:19
  Speaker 3: it's it's just let's focus on residential. Okay, it's just
• 5:22
Speaker 3: too complicated, I'll never be able to operate this, or
• 5:25
Speaker 3: it's just too expensive. What do you say to that?
• 5:27
Speaker 6: So there's a very wide range on different packages that
• 5:31
Speaker 6: we can offer. So the biggest thing that I always
• 5:34
Speaker 6: talk about on here and always tell the customer is
• 5:36
Speaker 6: I come in and completely listen to you. So I'm
• 5:38
Speaker 6: not a pressure salesman that comes in and tries to
• 5:40
Speaker 6: sell you something you don't want or you don't need.
• 5:42
Speaker 6: I completely listen to you. It's your home and you
• 5:44
Speaker 6: know it best. So I come in and we just
• 5:47
Speaker 6: talk about what you can do. And what I always
• 5:49
Speaker 6: say ultimately also is that when I give you a quote,
• 5:52
Speaker 6: you can take off whatever you want, whatever you don't
• 5:54
Speaker 6: feel comfortable, don't feel like you need, whatever you know.
• 5:57
Speaker 6: It's it's completely a movable quote there, not locked in anything.
• 6:01
Speaker 3: So basically you give them a computer handout or whatever,
• 6:04
Speaker 3: a sheet of paper and it's got the things on it.
• 6:06
Speaker 3: And they look at it and they say, well, you know,
• 6:08
Speaker 3: I'm kind of watching my dollars and cents here, so
• 6:11
Speaker 3: maybe I don't want to go this route. I want
• 6:13
Speaker 3: to go a little bit less. And you can kind
• 6:14
Speaker 3: of customate it for the individual. It's not not just
• 6:16
Speaker 3: one price. And what are some of those options that
• 6:18
Speaker 3: people have? If I call you and I want a
• 6:20
Speaker 3: security system put in my home, what are some of
• 6:22
Speaker 3: the options that people will be choosing from.
• 6:24
Speaker 6: So we have different things like having a glass break sensor.
• 6:28
Speaker 6: If any of your windows are broken, it's going to
• 6:30
Speaker 6: detect that frequency and alert the police.
• 6:33
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 6:34
Speaker 6: Sometimes some people say I don't need that many in
• 6:36
Speaker 6: the house. If I have three or four in the
• 6:38
Speaker 6: quote whatever, We'll take it down to a couple less,
• 6:41
Speaker 6: couple of motion sensors. You can take that down, door sensors,
• 6:45
Speaker 6: things like that as well. It's your standard security.
• 6:48
Speaker 3: Right and so you can kind of piece meal as
• 6:49
Speaker 3: to what it is that you want. And you offer
• 6:51
Speaker 3: this for both residential and commercial. What can you do
• 6:53
Speaker 3: for commercial businesses? What's the most common things that you
• 6:56
  Speaker 3: do there?
• 6:56
Speaker 6: So one of the most exciting things that we have
• 6:58
Speaker 6: with that is we we partner with alarm dot Com,
• 7:01
Speaker 6: so the largest national provider of security services. And one
• 7:05
Speaker 6: of the great things that they have is business analytics,
• 7:08
Speaker 6: so you can detect through your cameras set up. You
• 7:11
Speaker 6: can have different hot spots in the in the area.
• 7:14
Speaker 6: If you have like a retail store, you can see
• 7:15
Speaker 6: where people are going to the most. You can see
• 7:18
Speaker 6: if you have like a coffee shop type setting, you
• 7:20
Speaker 6: can see how long a customer has been in there,
• 7:22
Speaker 6: how many cups of coffee they've gone up and got.
• 7:25
Speaker 6: You can see the productivity of your workers in the
• 7:29
Speaker 6: back there, how how many copy cups of coffee they're making.
• 7:31
Speaker 6: Things like that, So it's it's it's crazy how detail
• 7:36
Speaker 6: they can get with the business.
• 7:37
Speaker 3: And of course talk about the about the technology. You know,
• 7:40
Speaker 3: back in the day, security systems were these big, bulky
• 7:43
Speaker 3: cameras with a ton of equipment and the best you
• 7:46
Speaker 3: could get out of it was some sort of a
• 7:47
Speaker 3: grainy video or something like that. How is the techno?
• 7:50
Speaker 3: What's the technology? You don't remember those days, but but
• 7:52
Speaker 3: but I'm sure you hear the state. What are the
• 7:55
Speaker 3: talk about the technology and how far it's come over
• 7:57
  Speaker 3: the years.
• 7:57
Speaker 6: Yes, I mean all of our camera setups a very
• 8:00
Speaker 6: very discreet now, so picture quality is phenomenal. One of
• 8:03
Speaker 6: the great things about the different business analytics and different
• 8:07
Speaker 6: things that they have with the video setup is it's
• 8:10
Speaker 6: not like you're you're fast forwarding through just hours and
• 8:13
Speaker 6: hours of tape trying to find the situation that happened.
• 8:16
Speaker 6: You have different alerts that will set up when it's
• 8:19
Speaker 6: detecting motion, whenever it's detecting people vehicles, you can search
• 8:23
Speaker 6: for keywords, and there you can search for different people
• 8:27
Speaker 6: that you're trying to find. So you can get it
• 8:29
  Speaker 6: very very specific.
• 8:30
Speaker 3: When you're going back and you have to sit down
• 8:32
Speaker 3: with people sometimes that are a little less tech savvy,
• 8:34
Speaker 3: maybe older people or you know me, You have to
• 8:37
Speaker 3: sit down with them and you have to explain to
• 8:39
Speaker 3: them exactly how this works. So, I mean, you take
• 8:42
Speaker 3: them step by step josh on how this works. Yeah.
• 8:44
Speaker 6: So I was talking with a customer yesterday. I was
• 8:46
Speaker 6: doing a quote for him and he's been with some
• 8:48
Speaker 6: other companies and wanted to get a quip from us,
• 8:51
Speaker 6: and he said, one of the biggest things is these
• 8:53
Speaker 6: other companies are losing business from them because they just
• 8:55
Speaker 6: won't return his calls. They won't come out and see them,
• 8:57
Speaker 6: and that is the opposite of our business model on
• 9:00
Speaker 6: what I want to do with it. So you know,
• 9:02
Speaker 6: we are a locally owned and operated business out of
• 9:05
Speaker 6: the Hurricane area and go all over the state. I'm
• 9:09
Speaker 6: a textra phone call away at any time. You have
• 9:11
Speaker 6: my personal number. When I work with you and I
• 9:14
Speaker 6: want to be a partner with you, you know, I'll
• 9:16
Speaker 6: come out. I've gone to a business in Charles and
• 9:19
Speaker 6: I've gone to you know, five or six times in
• 9:21
Speaker 6: the last month just because they didn't understand the set
• 9:23
Speaker 6: up and I'm really trying to help them figure that out.
• 9:25
Speaker 3: So and if somebody has multiple locations, I mean, will
• 9:29
Speaker 3: you work with them on the price on that? They say, Look,
• 9:30
Speaker 3: I'm going to sign you up through you know, Dave
• 9:32
Speaker 3: Allen Industries or whatever. And I've got five or six locations.
• 9:35
Speaker 3: Can you cut me a break if I do more?
• 9:38
Speaker 3: I mean, break's not the right word. But are you
• 9:39
Speaker 3: willing to work with them obsolutely? Yeah?
• 9:41
Speaker 6: I mean, we definitely try to figure it out with
• 9:43
Speaker 6: you see what works best for you. The other great
• 9:45
Speaker 6: thing with working with Alarm dot Com and the app
• 9:48
Speaker 6: that they offer is you can have business enterprise management.
• 9:52
Speaker 6: So you have, so you have five locations, then you
• 9:54
Speaker 6: can have your main app and you can click into
• 9:58
Speaker 6: each of those locations through the same app. It's not
• 10:00
Speaker 6: like you're scrolling through all kinds of different things, remembering
• 10:03
Speaker 6: all these different logins. It's all one centralized thing. You
• 10:05
Speaker 6: can have video, security, automation all connected in.
• 10:09
Speaker 3: Through that, and I think the important thing is to remember.
• 10:11
Speaker 3: And you just kind of touched on this, Josh is
• 10:13
Speaker 3: you don't just set up the equipment and go. You're
• 10:16
Speaker 3: there to answer quiz. You said to one business you'd
• 10:18
Speaker 3: been back about four or five times to explain different
• 10:20
Speaker 3: different things to them. And of course the systems come
• 10:22
Speaker 3: with all the warranties and all that other stuff as well.
• 10:25
Speaker 3: As we get closer now into the Christmas season. I
• 10:30
Speaker 3: know it's just September. I don't want to rush it
• 10:32
Speaker 3: because I think I think your local Walmart has Easter
• 10:34
Speaker 3: decorations up now. But as we get closer to the
• 10:37
Speaker 3: Christmas season, if you're looking for a gift for somebody,
• 10:39
Speaker 3: this might be a great gift for someone like maybe
• 10:41
Speaker 3: an older parent or something that the kids could get
• 10:43
Speaker 3: involved with and go together and get a security system. Absolutely,
• 10:46
Speaker 3: I mean so I mean, do you see that sort
• 10:48
Speaker 3: of thing. That sort of thing happened from time to time.
• 10:51
Speaker 6: Last year we definitely saw some of that, just different
• 10:53
Speaker 6: camera setups. People that have been wanting to do something
• 10:57
Speaker 6: and did that. Yeah, I mean it worked out right well.
• 11:00
Speaker 3: All right, So where can people get ahold of you?
• 11:01
  Speaker 7: Josh?
• 11:02
Speaker 6: You can get ahold of us at six eight one,
• 11:04
Speaker 6: two three, three four thousand or protected by jute dot com.
• 11:08
Speaker 3: And then the name is Jute Joot. I try to
• 11:11
Speaker 3: explain that to everybody when I when I read your sponsorship, Tagger,
• 11:14
Speaker 3: it's Joot. And for those people who may not know
• 11:17
Speaker 3: the story of where the name Jute comes from, you
• 11:19
Speaker 3: want to tell them again.
• 11:20
Speaker 6: It's a very interesting story. So I have two owners
• 11:24
Speaker 6: and their names are James and Thor, and they connected
• 11:27
Speaker 6: their name and said the double O is catchy and
• 11:30
Speaker 6: easy to remember, like Google and other companies like that.
• 11:33
Speaker 6: So a lot of thought went into.
• 11:35
Speaker 3: Well, those guys, I mean, with those guys with Thor
• 11:37
Speaker 3: and James, there's always a lot of thought goes into everything,
• 11:39
Speaker 3: mainly lunch where they're getting unch that day. All right, Josh,
• 11:42
Speaker 3: I appreciate you being here man. Thanks a lot absolutely

• 15:35
Speaker 3: Doing fine, manod Fin. I'm hanging in there. Yeah, good old.
• 15:38
Speaker 7: Guy, the same. I'm right there with you.
• 15:40
Speaker 3: No, you're not October West Is this Saturday on the
• 15:44
Speaker 3: West Side? You do know it's not October.
• 15:46
Speaker 7: Right, listen, that's the I hear that so much. And
• 15:49
Speaker 7: actually I'm glad you brought that up because we had
• 15:51
Speaker 7: to clarify, so we actually try to mirror the actual
• 15:54
Speaker 7: Octoberfest celebration in Germany that starts in the last two
• 15:58
Speaker 7: weeks of September. So that's why it's at the end
• 16:00
  Speaker 7: of Septem.
• 16:00
Speaker 3: I got you, I get kick off the Fall. I'm
• 16:02
Speaker 3: not the only one that's brought that up right in September.
• 16:05
Speaker 7: It's always been in September.
• 16:07
Speaker 3: Okay, okay, Well see I didn't realize that. So so
• 16:09
Speaker 3: what all you got going on? This thing?
• 16:11
Speaker 7: Along with Foam with the Dome, which happened back in June,
• 16:13
Speaker 7: this is our other big fundraiser that we hold every
• 16:15
Speaker 7: year here at Charleston Urban Works. And you know the
• 16:19
Speaker 7: purpose of this fundraiser is to draw really positive attention
• 16:22
Speaker 7: to our urban business districts, to create that sort of
• 16:25
Speaker 7: residual effect to remind people to come back and shop
• 16:27
Speaker 7: and eat in these districts. It's a fundraiser for our
• 16:30
Speaker 7: organization obviously, and it gets the cast registers ringing. So
• 16:33
Speaker 7: you know, this has been going on now, it's in
• 16:35
Speaker 7: its fifteenth year. We're celebrating fifteen years of October West.
• 16:38
Speaker 7: And really it comes down to beer, food and music. Right,
• 16:40
Speaker 7: So we have over one hundred and thirty that's right, right,
• 16:44
Speaker 7: I mean, that's what else do we do? But no,
• 16:47
Speaker 7: we have over one hundred and thirty beers on tap
• 16:49
Speaker 7: this year. We have more food vendors we've ever had.
• 16:51
Speaker 7: We have twelve food vendors this year, which is great.
• 16:53
Speaker 7: And then we have two stages, our City National Bank Stages,
• 16:57
Speaker 7: the West Stage. Well, the main stage will have two
• 17:00
Speaker 7: two co headliners. We'll have Mark Davis a Final Village
• 17:03
Speaker 7: spinning from three to five thirty, and then Andrew Scocchi
• 17:07
Speaker 7: he's coming down from the North. He'll be him in
• 17:09
Speaker 7: his band will be playing from five thirty to seven
• 17:11
Speaker 7: on the main stage. And then on the East Stage,
• 17:13
Speaker 7: which is right near the October West Games, which I'll
• 17:15
Speaker 7: get into in a second. That's DJ Courtz and she'll
• 17:18
Speaker 7: be spending the entire time right around the October West Games,
• 17:22
Speaker 7: which this year they're going to be bigger than better,
• 17:24
Speaker 7: bigger and better than ever. We have yodeling contest, sausage toss,
• 17:28
Speaker 7: keg rolling, sausage eating contest apparently we're doing this year.
• 17:33
Speaker 3: Matt Murphy is producing the show today. Matt Murphy, as
• 17:36
Speaker 3: soon as you said sausage eating and keg rolling, he's like, oh,
• 17:39
Speaker 3: I may have to come down to.
• 17:40
Speaker 7: That, but yeah, a few other games. The addition where
• 17:45
Speaker 7: we're at, what we're adding this year is we're doing
• 17:47
Speaker 7: the October West. We're calling it Trivial prost Suit. It's
• 17:50
Speaker 7: a trivia to an event long trivia game. We give
• 17:53
Speaker 7: you a QR CO when you first get in, you
• 17:55
Speaker 7: scan it. You can play trivia on your phone the
• 17:57
Speaker 7: entire duration of the event, and the top winners will
• 17:59
Speaker 7: get some really cool prize. Is so that all will
• 18:01
Speaker 7: be going on during the event. Five o'clock is when
• 18:04
Speaker 7: the October West Game start. As far as the admission
• 18:06
Speaker 7: goes VIP Early Hour this year, something we've added new
• 18:10
Speaker 7: that goes from three pm to four pm. You get
• 18:12
Speaker 7: an extra hour as a VIP ticket holder, which is
• 18:15
Speaker 7: fifty five dollars. You also get access to the VIP
• 18:17
Speaker 7: beer tent in the middle right there in the middle
• 18:20
Speaker 7: of the event. Of course, general emission is four to
• 18:22
Speaker 7: seven and that last until the end of the event,
• 18:25
Speaker 7: which is at seven o'clock.
• 18:26
Speaker 3: So where do people get tickets?
• 18:28
Speaker 7: You go to Charlestonurbanworks dot org. You can also find
• 18:31
Speaker 7: out all the information on the October West twenty twenty
• 18:34
Speaker 7: four Facebook page. We have I think over twenty three
• 18:36
Speaker 7: hundred people that have already liked that page and are
• 18:38
Speaker 7: following it. All the different information regarding our sponsors, the entertainment,
• 18:42
Speaker 7: the beer, the food, everything is listed on both the
• 18:44
Speaker 7: Facebook page and the website, and you can buy tickets
• 18:47
Speaker 7: right there. It takes you right to the page.
• 18:48
Speaker 3: I'll say what we'll do right now, how about we
• 18:51
Speaker 3: give away a pair. Let's do it. I say what
• 18:53
Speaker 3: we'll do. We'll be if you're calling number five right now,
• 18:55
Speaker 3: you can call us up at three zero four three

• 19:02
Speaker 3: right now. I am going to hook you up with
• 19:04
Speaker 3: a pair of free ticket. I'm not gonna do it.
• 19:06
Speaker 3: Rick Cavner is gonna hook up with a pair of
• 19:08
Speaker 3: free admission tickets to get into October West. It's this
• 19:10
Speaker 3: Saturday over in the Oak City district west side of Charleston.
• 19:14
Speaker 3: That's a great value. It is a caller five right now.
• 19:17
Speaker 3: Matt Murphy is standing by three zero four three four
• 19:19
Speaker 3: five fifty eight fifty eight three zero four three four
• 19:22
Speaker 3: five fifty eight fifty eight. Caller five right now, we'll
• 19:24
Speaker 3: hook up with a pair of free passes to October West.
• 19:28
Speaker 3: Happening this rock October West this Saturday on the Oak
• 19:32
Speaker 3: City area of Charleston. Talk about specifically Rick, Where are
• 19:36
  Speaker 3: things set up?
• 19:37
  Speaker 10: The event is?
• 19:38
Speaker 7: It spans from Pennsylvania Avenue right when you enter into
• 19:41
Speaker 7: Elk City, So Pennsylvania Avenue all the way down to
• 19:44
Speaker 7: Crescent Road, which is passed the Charleston Nano Brewery if
• 19:47
Speaker 7: you're familiar with that. Where that is. So it's it's
• 19:49
Speaker 7: a huge length of Washington Street West and there'll be
• 19:52
Speaker 7: some stuff going on, some food vendors on big Ley Avenue.
• 19:55
Speaker 7: The VIP Tent, the VIP Beer Tent will be right
• 19:57
Speaker 7: there on Tennessee. The stage set up right on Washington
• 20:01
Speaker 7: Street West facing down toward Pennsylvania the main stage, so
• 20:03
Speaker 7: it's the entire almost length of the Oak City District,
• 20:05
Speaker 7: at least on Washington Street.
• 20:07
  Speaker 3: It's a pretty big deal. And I've seen when I
• 20:09
Speaker 3: drive into the morning, you've got signs out. You don't specifically,
• 20:11
Speaker 3: but there's signs out on the interstatement say that the
• 20:13
Speaker 3: street's going to be closed.
• 20:15
Speaker 7: And they already got it up, which is good because
• 20:17
Speaker 7: we've got to reroute traffic.
• 20:19
Speaker 3: I want to say congratulations to Dave Runyon from Hurricane
• 20:21
Speaker 3: Another day from Hurricane it was our winner. Gratulations, So
• 20:25
Speaker 3: Dave Runyon of Hurricane is our winter. He's won himself
• 20:28
Speaker 3: a couple of free passes to October West, which is
• 20:30
Speaker 3: happening this coming u Saturday in the Oak City District
• 20:34
Speaker 3: of Charleston. I'm sorry, Mike Runyon. Is it Mike or
• 20:36
  Speaker 3: is a Dave? It's Mike.
• 20:37
Speaker 7: Sorry, Oh ohoops, congratulations Mike.
• 20:39
Speaker 3: Well he's new, our producers new. I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
• 20:43
Speaker 3: Murphy's been here for a long time. I think this
• 20:44
Speaker 3: maybe the first time he's ever produced my show. But
• 20:46
Speaker 3: uh so, not a day from Hurricane he changed it
• 20:49
Speaker 3: because it's I actually wonder he changes what looks so obvious,
• 20:55
Speaker 3: Mike Murphy of Hurricane is our winter. So Mike, we
• 20:58
Speaker 3: appreciate you. We get your tickets here at the station,
• 21:00
Speaker 3: and I'm sure, mister the other I'm sure, mister Murphy,
• 21:03
Speaker 3: your producer told you all about how to get your tickets,
• 21:05
Speaker 3: all right. And I do want to say side note here, Rick,
• 21:07
Speaker 3: that our stations are going to be a big part
• 21:09
Speaker 3: of this word the official media sponsor. I'm going to
• 21:12
Speaker 3: be down there on Saturday afternoon representing our sister station
• 21:15
Speaker 3: ninety eighty seven, a mountain wild and wonderful classic rock.
• 21:17
Speaker 3: So I'm definitely looking forward to it, having some food
• 21:20
Speaker 3: and drinking that spend some time on the stage as well.
• 21:22
Speaker 7: Yeah, Yeah, we're looking forward to having all you all
• 21:24
Speaker 7: during phone that worked out so well, having you guys
• 21:26
Speaker 7: all on stage and having that presence there with all
• 21:28
Speaker 7: your tents set up and folks coming over and hanging
• 21:30
Speaker 7: out and talking to you guys and getting information. So
• 21:33
Speaker 7: we're really really thankful for your as partnership.
• 21:35
Speaker 3: Now, how many different kinds of beer? Did I?
• 21:37
  Speaker 13: Over?
• 21:37
Speaker 7: One hundred and thirty beers will be on tap of
• 21:39
Speaker 7: the one hundred and thirty If you look at the list,
• 21:41
Speaker 7: I believe only five are domestic, like your bud Lights,
• 21:43
Speaker 7: your Meddler last year, michelubs, everything else. There's a lot
• 21:46
Speaker 7: of like German style bills, beers, a lot of like
• 21:50
Speaker 7: fall so like pumpkin and like stouts and that kind
• 21:54
Speaker 7: of thing. It's a really good variety and a lot
• 21:56
Speaker 7: of it is stuff that you you haven't heard of,
• 21:58
Speaker 7: a lot of stuff that isn't around here. But there's
• 22:00
Speaker 7: also some of those favorites, like the Big Timbers, all
• 22:02
Speaker 7: the West Virginia places, a lot of the West Virginia
• 22:04
Speaker 7: beers are represented as well.
• 22:05
Speaker 3: And that's one of the things I like about this
• 22:07
Speaker 3: savand and you also mentioned foone at the Dome that
• 22:09
Speaker 3: Charleston Urban Works does is that you give these companies,
• 22:12
Speaker 3: these West Virginia based companies, an opportunity to be a
• 22:14
Speaker 3: part of it. Whether it's the beer, the food trucks
• 22:16
Speaker 3: or whatever, there's something in it from them as well.
• 22:18
Speaker 7: Our mission dave at the very core, and we're talking
• 22:20
Speaker 7: even our our board policies. Whenever we purchase things for
• 22:23
Speaker 7: these events, like when we go out to our vendors,
• 22:25
Speaker 7: we have a bilocal policy like we make sure to
• 22:27
Speaker 7: reach out to the local vendors first before we have
• 22:29
Speaker 7: to venture out possibly not local, and we do that
• 22:31
Speaker 7: with our events as well. We always want to shine
• 22:33
Speaker 7: that direct spotlight in on onto these folks that are
• 22:36
Speaker 7: making West Virginia and Charleston the place it is now.
• 22:39
Speaker 3: Weather Wise, you can't do anything about the weather. But
• 22:42
Speaker 3: it looks like, Chris, we've got some rain, which is
• 22:44
Speaker 3: much needed the middle part of this week, and what
• 22:46
Speaker 3: I'm hearing Friday night high school football could be a
• 22:49
Speaker 3: little messy, but from what I saw in it again
• 22:51
Speaker 3: with the weather, Rick, you know, things could change by Saturday.
• 22:54
Speaker 3: Things look like through a drivable event.
• 22:56
Speaker 7: I've been watching very close all week and it's looking
• 22:59
Speaker 7: like everything thing is going to ease up very early
• 23:01
Speaker 7: in the morning on Saturday, which will actually be perfect
• 23:03
Speaker 7: because it'll cool things down a little bit. And if
• 23:06
Speaker 7: it's anything like last year, we may just have perfect
• 23:08
Speaker 7: weather once again, the perfect amount of sunshine, whether or
• 23:12
Speaker 7: not too hot. It could be really great. So go
• 23:14
Speaker 7: ahead and buy your tickets now. We have full faith
• 23:16
Speaker 7: there will be no rain on Saturday. Don't worry about
• 23:19
  Speaker 7: that is there.
• 23:20
Speaker 3: I know you're in an outdoor event, Rick, but is
• 23:22
Speaker 3: it possible that this event could sell out.
• 23:24
Speaker 7: I mean, you have some of the dome did sell out.
• 23:27
Speaker 7: We would like to see this sell out. We have
• 23:29
Speaker 7: a little bit of a higher cap for this than
• 23:31
Speaker 7: we did Fione with the dome, so we hope to
• 23:33
Speaker 7: see it sell out. We'll just never know. I mean
• 23:34
Speaker 7: a lot of folks buy their tickets on site, like
• 23:36
Speaker 7: at the gate. We do recommend you buy them ahead
• 23:39
Speaker 7: of time because you never know. VIP is more limited
• 23:41
  Speaker 7: than general admission.
• 23:42
Speaker 3: How many VIP have We.
• 23:44
Speaker 7: Only allow for the first six hundred people to be VIP,
• 23:48
Speaker 7: and so I think we're already up to like three
• 23:51
Speaker 7: fifty or four at this point. So I would I
• 23:54
Speaker 7: would act pretty quickly and go ahead and get those tickets. Now,
• 23:56
Speaker 7: if you're on the VIP treatment.
• 23:57
Speaker 3: And let's talk about the work of Charleston Urban Works,
• 24:00
Speaker 3: like your mission. I mean, because of course you put
• 24:02
Speaker 3: on this big event, you know, foone with the Dome
• 24:03
Speaker 3: and October West, But that's just the event that the
• 24:07
Speaker 3: money raisers, That's right, the fundraisers. What are you doing
• 24:09
Speaker 3: in the other months? What exactly is a mission statement,
• 24:11
Speaker 3: if you will, of Charleston Urban Work.
• 24:13
Speaker 7: So again, we really just solely focus on urban economic
• 24:16
Speaker 7: and community development in these neighborhood business districts. So for
• 24:20
Speaker 7: for the most part right now, the west side and
• 24:22
Speaker 7: the east end of Charleston, right and so our goal
• 24:24
Speaker 7: is really in four different categories. We have our public
• 24:27
Speaker 7: space enhancement work, so that's our west Side gate way
• 24:29
Speaker 7: lighting initiative that we're working right in the middle of
• 24:31
Speaker 7: right now that we've talked about on the air before.
• 24:33
Speaker 7: That's public art projects like the most of the murals
• 24:36
Speaker 7: that you see that are up on the buildings we've
• 24:37
Speaker 7: helped commission or been involved in some way, crosswalk enhancements,
• 24:41
Speaker 7: recycling receptacles, you know. The list really goes on our
• 24:44
Speaker 7: facade grant program. We have a full program dedicated to
• 24:47
Speaker 7: providing funding to local property and business owners who are
• 24:50
Speaker 7: looking to spruce up there outside, whether that's brick, pointing, windows, doors, signage,
• 24:54
Speaker 7: we have grant money available for them. We also have
• 24:57
Speaker 7: bilocal and shop local initiatives. Are Charleston Passport car or
• 25:00
Speaker 7: excuse me, our Charles Overworks passport card. It's a MasterCard
• 25:03
Speaker 7: debit card you can get through Element Federal Credit Union.
• 25:05
Speaker 7: You sign up for it. Every time you swipe it,
• 25:07
Speaker 7: you get two percent cash back If you shop in
• 25:08
Speaker 7: our districts and you eat in our districts. So those
• 25:11
Speaker 7: are really the program that's the programming that we offer
• 25:13
Speaker 7: right now as we've restructured and rebranding, as we've talked
• 25:16
Speaker 7: about recently. We're still working on some other really exciting stuff,
• 25:19
Speaker 7: but right now that's what we've been focused on, and
• 25:21
Speaker 7: that's just to make sure folks are thinking about our
• 25:23
Speaker 7: businesses first whenever they look to go, you know, eat out,
• 25:26
Speaker 7: or to go get a beer or shop for their
• 25:30
Speaker 7: clothing or whatever. So that's that's one of our main goals.

Speaker 7: concerts at the Clay Center Saturday night, and we know
• 26:08
Speaker 7: there's a lot of crossover there with the folks who
• 26:09
Speaker 7: go to our event and people who want to see
• 26:11
Speaker 7: Sierra Faraoh at Clay Center. We want folks to be
• 26:13
Speaker 7: able to go to both.
• 26:15
  Speaker 4: But just as.
• 26:16
Speaker 7: Importantly, you know, we want to make sure that when
• 26:19
Speaker 7: folks are leaving our event that they have enough time
• 26:21
Speaker 7: to go out and patronize all the local businesses they can.
• 26:24
Speaker 7: We want them to go and get if they haven't
• 26:25
Speaker 7: already eaten in one of our food vendors, which are
• 26:27
Speaker 7: that's probably happening earlier in the day. We want them
• 26:29
Speaker 7: to go out and get dinner at the several local
• 26:31
Speaker 7: restaurant options. We want them to go out and grab
• 26:33
Speaker 7: a beer at at their favorite watering hole with their brewery.
• 26:36
Speaker 7: We want to give people more time to do that
• 26:37
Speaker 7: because it's a captive audience date. We have people coming
• 26:39
Speaker 7: in from in some instances. In some years, sixteen different
• 26:42
Speaker 7: states have been to our events, I mean all the
• 26:45
Speaker 7: surrounding counties. We have attendees coming from several counties in
• 26:47
Speaker 7: West Virginia. It's their opportunity to see the best Charleston
• 26:50
Speaker 7: has to offer. And if they're there tow nine o'clock,
• 26:52
Speaker 7: they're not going to have as many options. So we
• 26:54
Speaker 7: did move hours back a little bit. And honestly, like
• 26:57
Speaker 7: you know, I mean, folks, after it gets dark at
• 27:00
Speaker 7: a at a beer festival, you know, it gets, it
• 27:01
Speaker 7: gets it gets a little rowdy, and so I think if.
• 27:04
Speaker 3: We can that's why we got Murphy there. Matt Murphy's
• 27:06
Speaker 3: gonna be there a good deal.
• 27:08
Speaker 7: No, no, I mean, and everybody's everybody's fine, And we
• 27:10
Speaker 7: have Charleston Police there and there we have security. They
• 27:13
Speaker 7: all do a great job of keeping things.
• 27:14
Speaker 3: Never been an issue.
• 27:15
Speaker 7: There never been an issue ever. But you know, the
• 27:18
Speaker 7: earlier that we can expose folks to our great city
• 27:21
Speaker 7: and get them out shopping and even locally, we want
• 27:23
  Speaker 7: to do that.
• 27:24
Speaker 3: Talk about before we let you go, talk about some
• 27:25
Speaker 3: of the businesses that are in in the on the
• 27:28
Speaker 3: West End that you've been working with and some of
• 27:30
Speaker 3: the things you're excited about business wise on the West
• 27:32
  Speaker 3: end of Charles.
• 27:33
Speaker 7: Yeah, so of course he know Sergio's Restaurant, the Italian
• 27:35
Speaker 7: restaurant just opened. It was the old Books and Bruce
• 27:37
Speaker 7: location there and he's doing great. He'll be open during October.
• 27:40
Speaker 7: West Charleston Nano Brewery. They're doing great over there. They've
• 27:44
Speaker 7: done it. They have a really good operation there. They'll
• 27:46
Speaker 7: be open as well. Green Infusion is there. Elk City Records,
• 27:51
Speaker 7: Elk City Cycles, Kinshift Goods just celebrated their ten year anniversary.
• 27:54
Speaker 7: They had their big event this past Saturday where they
• 27:56
Speaker 7: were celebrating ten years with their brick and mortar being open.
• 27:59
Speaker 7: And they're at there on Tennessee Avenue. Vendelia Company. Really
• 28:04
Speaker 7: great restaurant and a shop that's opened up there on
• 28:07
Speaker 7: Tennessee right beside right there beside Kinship and she's done
• 28:10
Speaker 7: a great job over there, delicious offerings there. They'll be
• 28:15
Speaker 7: open for a while, I believe during the event. And
• 28:18
Speaker 7: the Grill I think you probably saw the Grill as
• 28:20
Speaker 7: onder new ownership and during that in that transition process.
• 28:23
Speaker 7: Very historic business there on our west side. Winter Floral
• 28:26
Speaker 7: that they'll be open during the event. They've been in
• 28:28
Speaker 7: business for decades now. Really the list goes on and on.
• 28:31
Speaker 7: We have, you know, we have faced the world in
• 28:33
Speaker 7: universal Aesthetics is a good example of a service related
• 28:36
Speaker 7: business that's done really well and they chose to go
• 28:38
Speaker 7: to the Oak City District.
• 28:39
Speaker 3: To be here. I've got a lot of businesses that
• 28:41
Speaker 3: are choosing to be there quickly before we let you go.

Speaker 3: All right, team minus what ten hours or so from now?
• 32:41
Speaker 3: I don't do math, so about six point thirty five
• 32:44
Speaker 3: is his first pitch tonight.
• 32:46
Speaker 16: Right, yep, exactly, So I think we're nine hours now.
• 32:49
Speaker 3: There you go, pitch.
• 32:52
Speaker 16: We're getting ready. You know, players are gonna arrive probably
• 32:55
Speaker 16: right around one o'clock, two o'clock, and we're getting ready
• 32:58
  Speaker 16: to go.
• 32:58
Speaker 3: All right, So I know you're keeping an eye on
• 33:01
Speaker 3: the weather. What's the latest on the weather for tonight?
• 33:05
Speaker 16: Should be fine. I think the showers should be gone
• 33:08
Speaker 16: before first pitch. But again, the good news is we
• 33:10
Speaker 16: have turfed field. We are never not going to get
• 33:14
Speaker 16: a ballgame in. So even if you see like it
• 33:17
Speaker 16: might be raining, maybe some thunderstorms, we always will have
• 33:20
Speaker 16: this game in. So if you want to come to
• 33:21
Speaker 16: a baseball game, come on down. There will be baseball play.
• 33:24
Speaker 3: What's the feeling around the building this morning, because I

Speaker 3: what's the feeling like in the building. You said the

Speaker 3: player is going to be arriving soon. Got that championship
• 33:32
  Speaker 3: feeling again?
• 33:34
Speaker 16: Oh yeah, definitely. We have some new playoff merchandise coming in.
• 33:37
Speaker 16: We had a playoff T shirt last week. We now
• 33:39
Speaker 16: have a Southern Division champions T shirt coming in that's
• 33:42
Speaker 16: going to be delivered soon. Once that's then it feels
• 33:45
Speaker 16: a little bit more real for all of us working here,
• 33:46
Speaker 16: and we're excited for first pitch.
• 33:49
Speaker 3: Well, I've got to State Democratic Party chair in Delegate
• 33:51
Speaker 3: Mike Pushkin in studio with me this morning. Pushwalks into
• 33:53
Speaker 3: studio rocking his Dirty Birds shirt. He's ready to go,
• 33:56
  Speaker 3: aren't you, Michael.
• 33:57
Speaker 17: That's right, that's right, rooting for the home team. Congratulations
• 34:00
Speaker 17: and best of luck tonight.
• 34:02
Speaker 16: Thank you, Thank I appreciate it. Yeah, we're excited. We
• 34:05
Speaker 16: have Keiva Samson is going to be starting for us today.
• 34:08
Speaker 16: He was our game one starter last week. Former big leaguer,
• 34:12
Speaker 16: so we're excited. We feel I feel more confident about
• 34:16
Speaker 16: this series than I did last week, to be honest
• 34:18
  Speaker 16: with you.
• 34:18
Speaker 3: All right, Well, six pot thirty five is first pitch tonight,
• 34:20
Speaker 3: and all the promotions. You can bring your dog out.
• 34:22
Speaker 3: You got the two dollar deals going on. The kids
• 34:25
Speaker 3: twelve and under are admitted free. So great night at
• 34:27
Speaker 3: the ballparking again with this turf, you don't worry as
• 34:29
Speaker 3: much about the rain. The only thing you worry about
• 34:30
Speaker 3: is lightning. Hopefully we won't have that, and lightning never
• 34:33
Speaker 3: causes cancelation of a game, or very rarely. It's always
• 34:36
Speaker 3: just a little bit of a delay. But hopefully that one.
• 34:38
Speaker 3: We're not going to complain about the rain because we
• 34:39
Speaker 3: need it, but if we can just let it hold
• 34:41
Speaker 3: off for the game tonight, two games tonight and tomorrow night,
• 34:43
Speaker 3: and then you head out to York. Jill, I appreciate it.
• 34:46
Speaker 3: We'll talk again soon. Best of luck tonight. I'll probably
• 34:48
Speaker 3: be talking to you tomorrow.
• 34:50
Speaker 16: Perfect. Thanks, Dave, I appreciate it.
• 34:51
Speaker 3: Go Dirty Bird, Yeah, absolutely, Joe Garrett of The Dirty Birds,
• 34:54
Speaker 3: Hopey Church. We'll coming up with metroduced talk line at

Speaker 3: be on State Senator Mike Maroney arrested again. Brad has
• 35:06
Speaker 3: the latest on that. Plus Tonight at the State Culture
• 35:09
Speaker 3: Senator of the Capitol Grounds, Republicans are having what they
• 35:11
Speaker 3: call the Victory Dinner. Guest speakers Daniel Cameron from Attorney
• 35:14
Speaker 3: General of Kentucky he'll be joining Hobby on the show.
• 35:16
Speaker 3: This morning. Michael Lipton of the West Virginia Music Hall
• 35:19
Speaker 3: of Fame is on and he's gonna talk about the
• 35:22
Speaker 3: death of a true West Virginia musical icon, Billy ed Wheeler,
• 35:25
Speaker 3: who passed away. Boone County native passed away a couple
• 35:27
Speaker 3: of days ago. That's all on talk Line coming up
• 35:30
Speaker 3: at ten o six this morning. Tex says, why is
• 35:32
Speaker 3: it called the Elk City District instead of the West Side. Well,
• 35:36
Speaker 3: the answer to that is the Elk City District. It's
• 35:39
Speaker 3: actually called the Elk City District of the West Side
• 35:42
Speaker 3: because it's on the National Historic District Register, also on
• 35:46
Speaker 3: the National Historic District Registers. Mike Pushkin, how you doing, man?
• 35:49
Speaker 17: I think you just made the register registry yesterday with
• 35:53
Speaker 17: your fifty fourth birthday.
• 35:54
Speaker 3: Yeah. I've joined the fifty four club with you.
• 35:56
  Speaker 17: Yeah.
• 35:56
Speaker 3: Yeah, you're my age now now you still old.
• 36:00
Speaker 17: You know a good thing. People aren't listening to you
• 36:03
Speaker 17: and maybe late for the Dirty Birds game tonight. I'm glad,
• 36:06
Speaker 17: Joe correct, we had people going an hour late. So
• 36:09
Speaker 17: you just turned fifty four and already sensing a little
• 36:12
Speaker 17: bit of cognitive decline there telling people go.
• 36:15
Speaker 3: There seems to be a lot of that going around, well,
• 36:18
Speaker 3: especially in this studio. All right, all right, big happenings
• 36:22
Speaker 3: in Charleston this week, Michael, Tonight, the State Republican Party
• 36:25
Speaker 3: is going to have what's being called the Victory Dinner
• 36:26
Speaker 3: at the Culture Center. That's what you want to talk about.
• 36:29
Speaker 17: Right, Well, actually, no, we have the Roosevelt Kennedy Dinner
• 36:32
Speaker 17: for the day was a Joe party. Well, there's a
• 36:34
Speaker 17: bit of a connection there because I believe their speaker
• 36:36
Speaker 17: is Daniel Cameron. An our keynote speaker is the governor
• 36:39
Speaker 17: of Kentucky who beat Daniel Cameron soundly in the last election.
• 36:43
Speaker 17: We have Governor Andy Basheer. We are happy to have him.
• 36:46
Speaker 17: You know, he was on the short list for vice
• 36:49
Speaker 17: president and now he has been generous enough with his
• 36:53
Speaker 17: time and his scheduling to come to Charleston, West Virginia
• 36:57
Speaker 17: to join us for the Roosevelt Kennedy Dinner. And that's
• 36:59
Speaker 17: this Friday day. The doors will open around six o'clock,
• 37:03
Speaker 17: The dinner is around six point thirty. The program starts
• 37:06
Speaker 17: probably around seven. You mentioned Michael Lipton, who's going to
• 37:09
Speaker 17: be on Hoppy with his band The Carpenter ands they're
• 37:12
Speaker 17: going to be the musical entertainment. They're bringing along nationally
• 37:16
Speaker 17: known singer songwriter Nellie McKay. And of course we'll hear
• 37:20
Speaker 17: from all of our state wide candidates like Mayor Steve Williams,
• 37:24
Speaker 17: Mayor Glenn Elliott, all of our state wide candidates, and
• 37:27
Speaker 17: we get to hear from Governor Andy Basheer, who has
• 37:30
Speaker 17: a great message for West Virginians, not just Democrats in
• 37:33
Speaker 17: West Virginia, for West Virginians in general. And you can
• 37:37
Speaker 17: find those tickets and they're going fast. But you can
• 37:41
Speaker 17: find those tickets at WV Democrats dot com and click
• 37:45
Speaker 17: on Roosevelt Kennedy Dinner. We hope to see you there
• 37:48
  Speaker 17: Friday night.
• 37:49
Speaker 3: Andy Basheer, for his part, he was on Hoppy yesterday.
• 37:52
Speaker 3: If you get an opportunity to go back, I heard
• 37:54
Speaker 3: the interview with Hoppy. Did he did a great job
• 37:56
Speaker 3: on the interview with Hoppy yesterday. You may want to
• 37:58
Speaker 3: go back and try to try to get that a listen.
• 38:00
Speaker 3: It's kind of a big get, as we say in
• 38:02
Speaker 3: the media business, for you to get Aye but she
• 38:03
Speaker 3: here to come here.
• 38:04
  Speaker 17: I think it's a very big deal. You know. It's
• 38:06
Speaker 17: also the kickoff of this what they're calling the New
• 38:09
Speaker 17: South Bus Tour, which Andy was Sheer will be here
• 38:12
Speaker 17: as part of and it'll be going all through the South,
• 38:15
Speaker 17: winding up down in Georgia and Florida for the Harris
• 38:19
Speaker 17: Walls campaign. But the kickoff is right here in Charleston,
• 38:22
Speaker 17: West Virginia. So that's a very big deal as well.
• 38:25
Speaker 17: This Friday, you know, September twenty seventh.
• 38:28
Speaker 3: Where people get tickets and give us a ticket infl
• 38:30
  Speaker 3: we can.
• 38:30
Speaker 17: Get everybody can get tickets at WV democrats dot com
• 38:34
Speaker 17: and the event if I said this, the event is
• 38:36
Speaker 17: being held at the Charleston Coliseum at Convention Center.
• 38:39
Speaker 3: Okay, so special session is Monday. I know you've been
• 38:44
Speaker 3: busy studying the agenda. We have not received an agenda yet. Unfortunately,
• 38:48
Speaker 3: we will see. I mean, the governor is talking about
• 38:51
Speaker 3: all sorts of things, but he's not really good at
• 38:53
Speaker 3: showing up and building a consensus.
• 38:56
Speaker 17: And you know, we'll see what we're actually able to do.
• 39:00
Speaker 3: So are you what are you what are you looking
• 39:02
Speaker 3: forward to? What would you like to see Mike Pushkin's
• 39:05
Speaker 3: wish list on the call?
• 39:06
Speaker 17: Well, I mean, obviously we need to address the childcare
• 39:08
Speaker 17: crisis in this state. The governor has paid lip service
• 39:10
Speaker 17: to it. The Republicans and the legislatures paid lip service
• 39:13
Speaker 17: to it. But a lot of people are are struggling
• 39:16
Speaker 17: right now to find care for their young children so
• 39:19
Speaker 17: they can get to work. Every day we hear about
• 39:22
Speaker 17: childcare agencies closing up left and right across West Virginia
• 39:27
Speaker 17: because of the way that we do the subsidies, because
• 39:29
Speaker 17: they're just not able to keep these businesses open with
• 39:32
Speaker 17: the way that we're doing now. The governors talked about
• 39:35
Speaker 17: this tax credit, but if you do the math on that,
• 39:37
Speaker 17: I know that you're not great at math. We just
• 39:40
Speaker 17: found that out earlier when you told people to go
• 39:41
Speaker 17: to the game an hourly. But if you find somebody
• 39:44
Speaker 17: who is good at math and you do the math
• 39:45
Speaker 17: on it, his proposal would only say would save average
• 39:48
Speaker 17: families maybe a couple hundred dollars a year, a year
• 39:52
Speaker 17: that might pay for like one week of childcare. Unfortunately,
• 39:55
Speaker 17: that's not going to do it. We really need to
• 39:58
Speaker 17: do a deep dive into this and address the issue.
• 40:00
Speaker 17: I don't think that's what the legislature plans on doing.
• 40:03
Speaker 17: We'll see many in many cases, those springs eternal.
• 40:06
Speaker 3: But we'll see in many cases the Republican leadership is
• 40:10
Speaker 3: at odds with the governor, especially like you talk about
• 40:12
Speaker 3: the state income tax plan. I mean, I've been able
• 40:14
Speaker 3: to have Granted I don't have every politician to stay
• 40:16
Speaker 3: on my show. I've talked to one state senator on
• 40:19
Speaker 3: the Republican side that's for it. I'm sure there's others,
• 40:21
Speaker 3: but I mean I personally talked to one that's for it.
• 40:23
Speaker 3: But the big guys, you know, the ones in leadership,
• 40:26
Speaker 3: you know, the the Tars and the Blairs and whatever
• 40:28
  Speaker 3: they're they're they're not feeling this, Mike, and a lot
• 40:30
Speaker 3: a lot of Democrats, well, all Democrats aren't feeling it either.
• 40:33
  Speaker 13: Well.
• 40:33
Speaker 17: I mean, I'm always open to the idea of putting
• 40:35
Speaker 17: money back in people's pockets. That's that's taxpayers money, and
• 40:38
Speaker 17: we should be good stewards of the of public funds
• 40:41
Speaker 17: and the taxpayers money. My issue is there's a whole
• 40:44
Speaker 17: lot of basic services that aren't being met. Whether it's
• 40:48
Speaker 17: it's you know, in childcare, whether it's the overburdened foster
• 40:52
Speaker 17: care system, whether it's the amount of families on the
• 40:54
Speaker 17: Intellectual and Developmental disability weight list, and the fact that
• 40:58
Speaker 17: once they get off the weight list, there's no still
• 41:00
Speaker 17: not able to find in home care for their loved ones.
• 41:03
Speaker 17: We don't have enough teachers in the classroom, we don't
• 41:06
Speaker 17: have enough staff in our jails, and we don't have
• 41:10
Speaker 17: there's just a lot of basic services that are not
• 41:13
Speaker 17: being met. So no, this rocket ship Bride never got
• 41:16
Speaker 17: off of the launch pad, and you know, there are
• 41:19
Speaker 17: a lot of things that we need to fix first, Texas.
• 41:21
Speaker 3: In fairness, are there enough Democrats left in West Virginia
• 41:24
Speaker 3: to sell this thing out or will they bring them
• 41:26
Speaker 3: in from out of state like the keynote speaker.
• 41:30
Speaker 17: You know, historically we've all our speakers have always come
• 41:32
Speaker 17: from out of state. You know, in the past, we've
• 41:34
Speaker 17: had keynote speakers like former President Obama, former President Clinton.
• 41:39
Speaker 17: We're happy to have somebody who was on the short
• 41:41
Speaker 17: list for vice president this year. But yeah, there are
• 41:44
Speaker 17: plenty of folks across the state who will be who
• 41:47
Speaker 17: will be joining us Friday night over at the Charleston
• 41:50
Speaker 17: Convention and Mentioned Center and Coliseum. Once again, the tickets
• 41:54
Speaker 17: are available at WV Democrats dot com. So thanks for asking, Texter, have.
• 42:00
Speaker 3: Mike I had former Wheeling mayor and Democratic nominee for
• 42:02
Speaker 3: Senator Glenn Elliott. On the show last week, he was
• 42:05
Speaker 3: in town opening up his new headquarters, and he is
• 42:09
Speaker 3: calling for a debate between himself and Governor Jim Justice,
• 42:12
Speaker 3: his opponent, Republican opponent in the Senate race. Justice is
• 42:16
Speaker 3: saying no, Elliot said yes. Elliot's quote, which we turned
• 42:19
Speaker 3: into a promo, by the way, says something you know.
• 42:22
Speaker 3: He said on the show last week he said he
• 42:24
Speaker 3: can even bring his dog. I'll bring mine to. What
• 42:27
Speaker 3: does Mike Pushkin say about a possible debate? What's not
• 42:31
Speaker 3: going to happen? I don't think. But the challenge of
• 42:32
Speaker 3: a debate between Elliott and Justice, Well.
• 42:34
Speaker 17: It's unfortunate that Governor Justice doesn't feel that the voters
• 42:39
Speaker 17: of West Virginia should be.
• 42:40
Speaker 3: He says the race is over. He said that, he
• 42:42
  Speaker 3: said it's over.
• 42:43
Speaker 17: I think people deserve to hear these opposing viewpoints. And
• 42:47
Speaker 17: you know, it's getting to be October. It's time for debates.
• 42:50
Speaker 17: Governor Justices should agree to a debate. He should be
• 42:53
Speaker 17: able to defend his policies, be able to defend his record.
• 42:57
Speaker 17: Good luck defending that record. People need to get to
• 43:01
Speaker 17: know more about Mayor Glenn Elliott, who has a great
• 43:03
Speaker 17: record of you know, of economic development and growth in
• 43:08
Speaker 17: the city of Wheeling. He's really turned that town around.
• 43:11
Speaker 17: And and he has experienced in the US Senate. You know,
• 43:14
Speaker 17: he started off his career working for Senator Bird, so
• 43:18
Speaker 17: he knows where the Senate is located. It's in Washington,
• 43:21
Speaker 17: d C. And you actually have to show up to
• 43:23
Speaker 17: cast votes there. You have to show up to represent
• 43:26
Speaker 17: West Virginia. And I don't think anybody thinks that Jim
• 43:29
Speaker 17: Justice is actually going to show up for work.
• 43:31
  Speaker 3: He hasn't yet.
• 43:33
Speaker 17: He doesn't want to show up for a debate. So
• 43:35
Speaker 17: I don't know exactly what if, you know, if he's
• 43:36
Speaker 17: got such a great record, he's done such a good
• 43:38
  Speaker 17: job defended.
• 43:39
Speaker 3: But he says he doesn't have to because the race
• 43:42
Speaker 3: is over. That's what he said during the press or
• 43:43
Speaker 3: last week, Mike, he said this this race is over.
• 43:47
Speaker 17: Well, yeah, maybe that's what you know. I mean, no,
• 43:50
Speaker 17: that's not over to election day and the voters have
• 43:53
Speaker 17: deserved to be able to hear their hear from their candidates.
• 43:55
Speaker 17: And I don't know what he's afraid of. If he
• 43:57
Speaker 17: thinks he's he's so far ahead, and he's done such
• 43:59
Speaker 17: a great job. Defend your record, show up talking to
• 44:02
Speaker 17: state Democrats are hard time showing up, he really does.
• 44:05
Speaker 17: I think that's what the problem is. I mean, debate preps,
• 44:08
Speaker 17: actual work, and Jim Justice doesn't like to work.

Speaker 10: Citizens have had enough of the far left agenda that

  Speaker 10: the party follows.
• 46:58
Speaker 17: Well, no, I disagree. I think that we're the party
• 47:01
Speaker 17: that really holds true West Virginia values. But it's supporting
• 47:04
Speaker 17: public education for everybody's kids, you know, being able to
• 47:08
Speaker 17: maintain good roads and bridges and the expansion of broadband,

• 47:23
Speaker 17: a far left President Trump. Former President Trump has been
• 47:28
Speaker 17: calling for states to put it on the ballot. So
• 47:30
Speaker 17: I'm not sure what the West Virginia Republicans are afraid of,
• 47:32
Speaker 17: except they notice, like in every other state, they'll lose.
• 47:36
Speaker 17: We're for protecting freedom, for restoring freedom, and the other
• 47:39
Speaker 17: side seems to be for big government intrusion from the
• 47:43

• 47:46
Speaker 17: just want to intrude on our lives from birth to death.

• 47:59
Speaker 3: had any comment on Mike Maroney. Senator Maroni was arrested
• 48:04
Speaker 3: yesterday on suspicion of and I don't have the notes
• 48:07
Speaker 3: in front of me, but a suspicion of driving into
• 48:09
Speaker 3: the influence. I think he had like ah retire, he
• 48:12
Speaker 3: had a like aspired sticker or something like that as well.
• 48:14
Speaker 3: Second time he's been arrested. The other time was for
• 48:18
Speaker 3: sexuality in public and no one else was present in
• 48:22
Speaker 3: a gambling parlor. He of course got beat in the primary,
• 48:25
Speaker 3: but he's still the senator until January.
• 48:28
  Speaker 17: A senator, he's a Republican Senator. He's the chair of
• 48:31
Speaker 17: the of the Health Committee, I believe unless they removed him.
• 48:34
Speaker 17: And it's to me, it's just sad. I'm you know,
• 48:37
Speaker 17: I've been very open about the fact that I'm in
• 48:39
Speaker 17: long term recovery, so I can I can spot obvious
• 48:43
Speaker 17: substance use disorder when I see it. To arrests in
• 48:47
Speaker 17: a short period of time, it's sad and I just
• 48:49
Speaker 17: hope he gets the help that he needs. But I
• 48:50
Speaker 17: will say I don't appreciate the hypocrisy. And I'll point
• 48:54
Speaker 17: out that Senator Maroney was the lead sponsor of a
• 48:58
Speaker 17: bill to drug test people who were TANAF. Well, he
• 49:01
Speaker 17: also gets a paycheck from the state and has he
• 49:04
Speaker 17: been in paired doing his job. So uh, to me,
• 49:08
Speaker 17: I'm all for I hope he gets the help that
• 49:10
  Speaker 17: he needs. But uh, I don't. I don't appreciate the
• 49:14
Speaker 17: hypocrisy of calling for drug testing. Uh, folks on TANAF
• 49:18
Speaker 17: if you're I mean when they introduced that bill, When
• 49:22
Speaker 17: he introduced that bill, we had an amendment to drug
• 49:24
Speaker 17: test legislators. You know they didn't pick it up, but
• 49:27
Speaker 17: I think we should. If you're going to drug test
• 49:29
Speaker 17: people on tanna, line him up and drug test the
• 49:32
Speaker 17: people voting on it here.
• 49:34
  Speaker 15: Uh.
• 49:34
Speaker 3: Last week, Honey to Mayor Steve Williams might call for
• 49:37
Speaker 3: the legalizing of recreational cannabis. So do you think this
• 49:39
Speaker 3: is a smart move on Mayor Williams party. He called
• 49:41
  Speaker 3: for a.
• 49:42
Speaker 17: Vote, a vote, but he does say he said he
• 49:44
Speaker 17: would be he would support it, but he called for
• 49:46
Speaker 17: a vote. It's like in any state that has legalized that,
• 49:48
Speaker 17: it's been a vote of the people. I think that
• 49:51
Speaker 17: who could be against that, letting the people speak up
• 49:53
Speaker 17: on it, you know, And they're in uh, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania,
• 49:57
Speaker 17: many of our surrounding states. You can many westerngin Indians
• 50:00
Speaker 17: can drive, you know, half hour twenty minutes in a
• 50:02
Speaker 17: new direction and buy it legally. And in those states,
• 50:06
Speaker 17: the sky hasn't fallen, the earth hasn't stopped spinning, and
• 50:09
Speaker 17: not a single state that has gone that way has
• 50:12
Speaker 17: has gone back. They like the added revenue they get.
• 50:15
Speaker 17: They liked actually just the freedom of allowing adults to
• 50:19
Speaker 17: make that determination for themselves. It's like they would with
• 50:23
Speaker 17: you know, beer, wine, alcohol. So now, while I do
• 50:27
Speaker 17: not definitely don't condone the use, I think that adults,
• 50:31
Speaker 17: adults in West Virginia to be able to make that
• 50:32
Speaker 17: determination for themselves, but I definitely trust the voters to
• 50:35
Speaker 17: decide on that. So the same thing with reproductive freedom.
• 50:39
Speaker 17: I would like to have that on the ballot as well.
• 50:41
Speaker 17: It's not just me here Donald Trump saying that states
• 50:44
Speaker 17: the people in the states should be able to vote for.
• 50:46
Speaker 3: It, and some people in the Republican Party aren't happy
• 50:49
Speaker 3: with that. I've had texts of the show that people
• 50:51
Speaker 3: that aren't happy with Trump about that, well, that they
• 50:53
Speaker 3: should say so out loud.
• 50:54
Speaker 17: They should say they're not happy with Trump. Instead, they
• 50:57
Speaker 17: just go along with the rest of the cult and
• 50:59
Speaker 17: go along with whatever he says publicly. But if they're
• 51:01
Speaker 17: not happy with something, say so. But that's one thing
• 51:04
Speaker 17: I agree with them on. The people should be able
• 51:06
Speaker 17: to vote. But the Republican leadership in West Virginia is
• 51:09
Speaker 17: afraid of that because they know, just like in every
• 51:11
Speaker 17: other state, whether it's Ohio and Montana, any red state,
• 51:14
Speaker 17: blue state, purple state, where they vote on putting on freedom,
• 51:18
Speaker 17: on restoring reproductive freedom, freedom always wins. So let the
• 51:22
Speaker 17: people of West Virginia vote on it.
• 51:24
Speaker 3: Before we close, I want to give you an opportunity
• 51:26
Speaker 3: to talk about something totally away from politics. It's you're
• 51:29
Speaker 3: a good friend. And she's been a guest on the
• 51:30
Speaker 3: show here Sierra Ferrell, local musician who is absolutely just
• 51:35
Speaker 3: killing it to a Cavetor mentioned that she's going to
• 51:36
Speaker 3: be in concerted to Clay Center. Talk about what Sierra
• 51:39
Speaker 3: Ferrell is doing right now on the nationwide front.
• 51:42
Speaker 17: Just last week, she won two major awards with the
• 51:47
Speaker 17: Americana Music Association. She took them the two biggest awards,
• 51:50
Speaker 17: Artists of the Year and an Album of the Year.
• 51:53
Speaker 17: And the reason she won is she truly put out
• 51:56
Speaker 17: the best best record last year. If you don't believe me,
• 51:59
Speaker 17: go listen to it from start to finish. Trail of
• 52:01
Speaker 17: Flowers is a great record. And in my opinion, I'm
• 52:04
Speaker 17: a little bit biased, I think she's the greatest performer
• 52:06
Speaker 17: on the planet. So that's why I should have been.
• 52:07
Speaker 17: And she'll be here in Charleston Saturday night. You know,
• 52:11
Speaker 17: two years ago she played at the Roosevelt Kennedy Dinner.
• 52:13
Speaker 3: She was here, she was here on the shelf. Roosevelt.
• 52:17
Speaker 17: Friday night is the Roosevelt Kennedy Dinner at the Charleston
• 52:20
Speaker 17: Coliseum at Convention Center, right here in Charleston. And you
• 52:23
Speaker 17: can get those tickets and get those tickets at wb
