- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Almost Famous Podcast with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hey, Almost Famous crew.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Hey.
- 0:07Speaker 3: It's producer Heather, and we're on the most dramatic book
- 0:12Speaker 3: club ever.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Isn't that a great title?
- 0:15Speaker 4: Not because of the books, but because of the people
- 0:18Speaker 4: talking about it.
- 0:19Speaker 3: We couldn't... Not choose the most dramatic book right now
- 0:24Speaker 3: in Bachelor Nation, like as our first book that we're
- 0:27Speaker 3: reviewing on the show. So obviously we're talking about The
- 0:30Speaker 3: Love Producer by Julie LaPlaca, former Bachelor producer. She joined
- 0:37Speaker 3: early on, I think around Colton's season. And the book
- 0:41Speaker 3: really focuses, though, on her time on Peter Weber's season.
- 0:45Speaker 3: So today I'm here with some of our favorite Goldens.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I've got Kathy, Joan, Susan, and Cindy, who have all
- 0:52Speaker 3: read the book. And we've all got a lot to
- 0:55Speaker 3: say about it.
- 0:57Speaker 5: Yes, we do.
- 0:58Speaker 6: Yes, we do.
- 0:59Speaker 2: First off, did you guys watch Pilot Pete's season?
- 1:02Speaker 1: Bits and pieces.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Bits and pieces.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Bits and pieces.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Bits and pieces.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Okay, well, I can say I watched the entire thing.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I could say we liked him.
- 1:10Speaker 2: He was very cute. He was cute as can be.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I completely forgot that he still lived at home with
- 1:17Speaker 3: his parents until rereading this book. It just makes me
- 1:21Speaker 3: laugh because we build up this character of The Bachelor
- 1:25Speaker 3: to be the most eligible single man in America. I
- 1:29Speaker 3: think that's how they used to actually promote him.
- 1:31Speaker 2: One would hope.
- 1:32Speaker 3: And so to remember that pilot Pete was still living
- 1:35Speaker 3: at home with Barb when he was filming this.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And then for many years afterwards. It makes me laugh.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I mean, it's silly.
- 1:42Speaker 2: It is silly to think about.
- 1:43Speaker 6: Can I just say?
- 1:44Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 1:45Speaker 6: I am really looking for a guy who's living at
- 1:47Speaker 6: home with his mom. That would be a red flag.
- 1:49Speaker 4: You know, at our age, they actually might be.
- 1:52Speaker 2: They might be.
- 1:54Speaker 3: So did you guys, well, first of all, so this
- 1:59Speaker 3: book comes out. There was a lot of buzz at first.
- 2:02Speaker 3: It seemed positive before it came out. It seemed positive
- 2:06Speaker 3: for a little bit right when it did come out.
- 2:09Speaker 3: And then things kind of took a shift and a turn.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Because people read it.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Well, I think somebody— It wasn't just a concept.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I think some Bachelor people made comments that didn't read it.
- 2:19Speaker 3: And made some judgments and opinions, and we'll get into that.
- 2:22Speaker 3: But I want to know, just off the bat, what
- 2:25Speaker 3: was all of your takes personally on Julie reading this book?
- 2:29Speaker 2: What did you think of her personality? What did you
- 2:32Speaker 2: think of her work ethic? Tell me about that.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I think it's all about her. But then again... In
- 2:39Speaker 1: the same breath, I want to say that's what it's about.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It's her journey.
- 2:44Speaker 6: Right.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Her story.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Well, Susan, I want you to divulge a little bit
- 2:48Speaker 3: more because you actually texted me and said, I can't
- 2:50Speaker 3: wait to talk about this.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I related to her so much.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So I don't think any of our people here are
- 2:56Speaker 1: going to agree with me.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Tell me.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I think you and I might agree. Her vulnerability and
- 3:00Speaker 1: her story. I felt that struggle that she was falling
- 3:04Speaker 1: for somebody that she couldn't have. And I felt bad.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And her parents were her biggest cheerleaders. And she went
- 3:12Speaker 1: through life like that, getting pushed up in her job
- 3:16Speaker 1: as a producer so quickly, like everything went to her head.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And I really thought that she thought she was going
- 3:23Speaker 1: to end up with him.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Give me another perspective. Who else? What'd you guys think
- 3:28Speaker 2: about Julie?
- 3:29Speaker 4: Mine's more similar to yours, and I think yours too
- 3:31Speaker 4: will be. I thought, okay, this is how I feel
- 3:35Speaker 4: about it. When you only have certain tragedies in your life,
- 3:40Speaker 4: that is the biggest tragedy you've ever had.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Sure.
- 3:43Speaker 4: And it's really difficult for those people who have had
- 3:45Speaker 4: bigger tragedies to say, oh, and to really relate to her.
- 3:50Speaker 4: That's where I struggled, is relating to her. Like, okay,
- 3:53Speaker 4: your life isn't that difficult. You're kind of making bad
- 3:56Speaker 4: decisions about men. you're jumping into relationships really quickly. So
- 4:00Speaker 4: I just had a hard time relating to it. But
- 4:03Speaker 4: to Susan's point, I did like in the end that
- 4:05Speaker 4: she feels that we really are the lead of our life.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And I thought that was a good message in the end.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I do not like the way.
- 4:14Speaker 6: She could have said that on page one.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I know, but yes, yes.
- 4:17Speaker 4: But she feels like she's gone through a journey, and
- 4:20Speaker 4: this is her journey, and she is at a higher
- 4:22Speaker 4: place than she was when she started.
- 4:25Speaker 6: Can I ask a question?
- 4:26Speaker 3: Sure.
- 4:26Speaker 6: I wasn't going to do this.
- 4:29Speaker 1: But you are.
- 4:29Speaker 2: But you are.
- 4:30Speaker 6: Here we go. It's Kathy, and I'm doing it. I
- 4:33Speaker 6: thought it was a very self-serving book about- things that
- 4:45Speaker 6: her life that I thought she lived a very, what's
- 4:49Speaker 6: the word I want? Sheltered. Sheltered and supported life by
- 4:53Speaker 6: her family.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And what's wrong with that?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 4:56Speaker 6: But I'm always interested that people think their life story
- 5:02Speaker 6: is so important.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I think I know what you're getting at. It's what
- 5:06Speaker 3: made this journey worth sharing.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Worth sharing.
- 5:08Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I feel the same way. And I feel like the.
- 5:12Speaker 7: The title of the book, Love Producer, and knowing that
- 5:15Speaker 7: she was a producer on The Bachelor, people thought they
- 5:17Speaker 7: were going to read this and get some tea about Bachelor.
- 5:19Speaker 2: You got no tea about Bachelor.
- 5:21Speaker 7: You just got a lot of stories about a girl
- 5:23Speaker 7: who had a lot of opportunities to fall in love,
- 5:25Speaker 7: yet used her position as a producer to put her
- 5:29Speaker 7: in a position that she was.
- 5:31Speaker 2: With Pilot Pete a lot.
- 5:33Speaker 6: And Joan?
- 5:34Speaker 2: And by the way.
- 5:35Speaker 7: Late at night, while they were drinking, and then all
- 5:38Speaker 7: of a sudden there's now a victim that he slept.
- 5:40Speaker 2: With her when she put herself in that position.
- 5:43Speaker 6: And regardless of what anyone thinks of the Bachelor franchise,
- 5:47Speaker 6: to me it was shitting on the Bachelor franchise. Oh,
- 5:51Speaker 6: by the way, I was sleeping with Pilot Pete, which
- 5:54Speaker 6: we all know as... as people who've been members of
- 5:57Speaker 6: the Bachelor franchise, that you don't do that. You don't
- 6:00Speaker 6: do that.
- 6:01Speaker 2: That's a power position.
- 6:02Speaker 6: So to me, it was using that as a hook,
- 6:05Speaker 6: as a lure to get people to read the book.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Well, we did have her on the pod, and we
- 6:10Speaker 3: straight up asked her, would you have gotten a book
- 6:13Speaker 3: deal without this story?
- 6:14Speaker 2: And she said, Answered no.
- 6:16Speaker 6: Well, there you go.
- 6:17Speaker 5: She was honest about it.
- 6:20Speaker 6: So right there, to me, it diminishes the value of
- 6:24Speaker 6: her story. Joan and I have spoken a little bit
- 6:27Speaker 6: about this. I read that book. I listened to it, actually,
- 6:31Speaker 6: while I was walking because I didn't want to waste
- 6:33Speaker 6: time reading it. And I thought that... she lived a
- 6:38Speaker 6: life of, you know, when did you stop working? And
- 6:41Speaker 6: I know Chris Harrison and his forward that he wrote
- 6:45Speaker 6: was so admiring. Yes, he admires her. He thinks she's wonderful.
- 6:50Speaker 6: And she, she rose to the top so quickly. And
- 6:53Speaker 6: I'm thinking, did you rise to the top quickly because
- 6:56Speaker 6: you're all that, or everybody was quitting and fired? And
- 6:59Speaker 6: I don't know, because I wasn't there.
- 7:01Speaker 2: A lot of turnover at the bachelor a lot of.
- 7:02Speaker 8: Turnover so were you that good and through the pandemic
- 7:06Speaker 8: too right but it's so difficult to go from a
- 7:08Speaker 8: date producer directly to producing the lead it's surprising that
- 7:11Speaker 8: she didn't produce cast instead of the lead again we
- 7:14Speaker 8: weren't there.
- 7:15Speaker 7: Originally she produced cast i think she went to date
- 7:19Speaker 7: and then was cast and then went to lead really
- 7:21Speaker 7: really quickly.
- 7:22Speaker 6: Either or but it was a very fast i thought.
- 7:24Speaker 7: It was very telling when she talked about producing Hannah Brown,
- 7:27Speaker 7: who is a.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Very loved bachelorette.
- 7:31Speaker 7: Everybody loves her morals, everybody loves her quirkiness, all these things,
- 7:34Speaker 7: and that Hannah really didn't like her. I think she
- 7:37Speaker 7: saw the thing that I felt like I saw in
- 7:38Speaker 7: the book, that she was a little bit arrogant, that
- 7:42Speaker 7: she felt like she was better than maybe her position
- 7:47Speaker 7: should have made her feel.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Can I say, I don't fully agree with that.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I think that maybe she does think she's great, Um,
- 7:55Speaker 3: the vibe I get just from watching interviews, right?
- 7:59Speaker 2: So I don't know her. I've never met her. I've
- 8:01Speaker 2: never worked with her, but you.
- 8:03Speaker 3: All know that like, I've done obviously very similar jobs
- 8:06Speaker 3: as her and been in the industry maybe around the
- 8:09Speaker 3: same amount of time, maybe longer. Um, she does not
- 8:14Speaker 3: strike me as a personality that I would be.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Shoulder to shoulder.
- 8:19Speaker 3: She who?
- 8:20Speaker 2: Hannah? No, no, no.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Like your buddy on set.
- 8:23Speaker 2: That's what we're saying.
- 8:24Speaker 3: But she's not the kind of personality that you tend
- 8:28Speaker 3: to meet behind the scenes.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And to me, she feels easily moldable by higher ups.
- 8:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:37Speaker 3: And I think that that is actually where the rise
- 8:40Speaker 3: comes from. And I think the praise from Chris Harrison
- 8:43Speaker 3: comes from the level of optimism and high energy and
- 8:48Speaker 3: positivity that she brings right because we often meet a
- 8:52Speaker 3: lot of pessimistic upset people behind the scenes especially ones
- 8:56Speaker 3: that have been on shows for a really long time
- 8:58Speaker 3: and so i think that's what makes her stand out
- 9:02Speaker 3: and enjoyable is that she's She clearly is very invested
- 9:07Speaker 3: in the idea of love.
- 9:08Speaker 2: She will not stop talking about it.
- 9:10Speaker 3: She wanted to be a contestant before she was on
- 9:12Speaker 3: the show, which I think speaks volumes, by the way.
- 9:15Speaker 1: And then told her.
- 9:16Speaker 6: She may be a contestant. Hold on, if you believe that.
- 9:19Speaker 6: I think the Vic, I don't believe that.
- 9:23Speaker 2: This book has struck a chord, though.
- 9:25Speaker 6: No, it didn't.
- 9:26Speaker 4: I think, I think.
- 9:28Speaker 6: I think the engagement with her guy, all this, she
- 9:32Speaker 6: had a, and I hate saying this, a victim mentality.
- 9:35Speaker 6: Everything was done to her. I didn't feel that.
- 9:40Speaker 5: I did.
- 9:41Speaker 6: And the other thing I want to say, and then
- 9:42Speaker 6: I will let y'all have the hey there. For a minute.
- 9:47Speaker 6: For a minute. I thought that... I don't know what
- 9:51Speaker 6: bachelor franchise pays their people. But I know they work
- 9:56Speaker 6: really hard and then they get some time off. And
- 9:58Speaker 6: this girl is trying. the world and going to visit
- 10:01Speaker 6: this one and that one and then decides.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Very typical. Very typical. Because of their schedule.
- 10:07Speaker 6: Then decides she's going to study rocks and chemicals and Reiki.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Also very typical.
- 10:15Speaker 6: I'm not going to lie.
- 10:17Speaker 3: I've had very, very, lots of people in the industry
- 10:22Speaker 3: go one day, I'm going to go be a healer.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I'm going to go.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Be a nurse.
- 10:27Speaker 6: So then what makes her story any different? There you go.
- 10:30Speaker 2: What makes her story different is the Pilot Pete story.
- 10:32Speaker 6: And she wrote it.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It's in there.
- 10:34Speaker 1: And she slept with the lead.
- 10:36Speaker 2: That's what it is.
- 10:37Speaker 7: You know what I'll tell you as a lead? When
- 10:41Speaker 7: I was reading about how, and she talked about this
- 10:44Speaker 7: a lot, about her job was to manipulate people and
- 10:47Speaker 7: to get them to say things that they wouldn't have
- 10:49Speaker 7: normally said.
- 10:50Speaker 2: It made me think. It really was, honestly.
- 10:53Speaker 7: Because I feel like I'm a pretty strong person.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Because you start thinking back.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I'm older, so I'm not.
- 10:56Speaker 7: Like a young 20-year-old that you can. And so I
- 10:59Speaker 7: thought I held my own really well. And I think back,
- 11:01Speaker 7: and I have a really close relationship with my producer, Bradford.
- 11:04Speaker 7: I love him to death. He's like a son to me.
- 11:06Speaker 6: We love you, Bradford.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I used to work with Bradford before he was on
- 11:10Speaker 2: The Bachelor.
- 11:11Speaker 3: He was the best.
- 11:11Speaker 7: I requested him to be my producer, and he's been
- 11:13Speaker 7: a lead producer for a lot of time. But I
- 11:14Speaker 7: think back at some interviews where I can tell he really.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Wants me to cry.
- 11:18Speaker 7: And I don't like crying in public. I don't like
- 11:20Speaker 7: crying at all. Like, I try to be really strong.
- 11:23Speaker 7: And I knew that he was trying to get me
- 11:24Speaker 7: to cry.
- 11:25Speaker 2: And I'm like, he was... Like, I was being manipulated.
- 11:29Speaker 2: He was doing his job, but I feel a little
- 11:31Speaker 2: manipulated now. Because somebody else told him. I'm sure, I'm sure.
- 11:34Speaker 2: And that's the hard part about the job. And then
- 11:36Speaker 2: when he couldn't, they would send in another producer.
- 11:38Speaker 7: They would send in one of the EPs. And then
- 11:41Speaker 7: I knew that I was not crying for Bradford. Now
- 11:43Speaker 7: they sent him in, or her in. And then I
- 11:46Speaker 7: felt bad that I didn't do it for Bradford.
- 11:47Speaker 3: It's a very unique experience that all of you have
- 11:52Speaker 3: gone through.
- 11:53Speaker 2: And it's not easy. And this is why.
- 11:55Speaker 3: I made the decision to get out of production early
- 11:58Speaker 3: on in my career because I didn't like having to
- 12:00Speaker 3: do that.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I hate that. And I was bad.
- 12:02Speaker 3: This is what I related to in her book. When
- 12:04Speaker 3: she talks about being an empath, when she talks about
- 12:07Speaker 3: when the talent cries, I cry. I had times where
- 12:11Speaker 3: I made somebody cry, was told, you need to get
- 12:15Speaker 3: it together.
- 12:15Speaker 2: You need to leave the room. You can't be crying
- 12:17Speaker 2: at the same time.
- 12:18Speaker 3: And then go into the other person's room and say
- 12:21Speaker 3: the complete opposite of what I just said to that
- 12:23Speaker 3: person and in.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Order to get them upset. And it does not feel good.
- 12:29Speaker 3: And so I shifted my career and I moved back
- 12:32Speaker 3: from that when she talks about the really long hours,
- 12:34Speaker 3: working on the weekends.
- 12:36Speaker 1: All that kind of stuff.
- 12:37Speaker 3: It really is draining and I understand why she's constantly
- 12:41Speaker 3: talking about being in a suitcase, and then she's here, she's.
- 12:43Speaker 2: There, she can't maintain... That all sounds very realistic.
- 12:46Speaker 3: She can't maintain a relationship back at home because she's
- 12:48Speaker 3: constantly gone.
- 12:49Speaker 2: These are all real things.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Was it James that she lost?
- 12:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:54Speaker 7: And honestly, that part of the book was kind of interesting.
- 12:57Speaker 7: That was the most interesting part of it.
- 12:59Speaker 6: Because I think that we all.
- 13:00Speaker 7: Really wanted to know, and we all know some behind
- 13:03Speaker 7: the scenes, obviously. We know that part of it, but
- 13:05Speaker 7: it was interesting to read it and hear it from
- 13:07Speaker 7: her perspective and how... like how hard it is to
- 13:10Speaker 7: have a life and like missing her own grandfather's funeral.
- 13:14Speaker 7: Those kind of decisions that you have to make in
- 13:16Speaker 7: that position is awful. And I think we felt that
- 13:19Speaker 7: we all were very close to our producers because you know,
- 13:21Speaker 7: we're older. We felt like they were like our kids.
- 13:24Speaker 7: So I loved that part of the book. That was
- 13:26Speaker 7: the only part of the book I really loved. I
- 13:28Speaker 7: really hated her journey. I hated that she spent the
- 13:31Speaker 7: night at At the house, at the parents' house.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Let's talk about that. After they've been drinking. Let's talk
- 13:35Speaker 2: about that. We all knew what was going to happen.
- 13:37Speaker 1: But the families.
- 13:38Speaker 2: It really bothered me. The families got along.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Both families.
- 13:41Speaker 6: But wait, how does that happen? And why is that
- 13:44Speaker 6: important to us as a reader?
- 13:45Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Because it was sharing her story and that was part
- 13:49Speaker 1: of her story.
- 13:50Speaker 2: But part of her job is also to maintain a
- 13:52Speaker 2: level of professionalism.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 13:54Speaker 2: They were done with the show. What was that? They
- 13:56Speaker 2: were done with their show. But guess what? They're still
- 13:58Speaker 2: doing press. When you're done with the show.
- 14:00Speaker 6: You're done.
- 14:01Speaker 2: You're done with the job.
- 14:02Speaker 6: That's right.
- 14:02Speaker 2: And you don't.
- 14:03Speaker 6: You zip it.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Call up.
- 14:05Speaker 3: When she's talking about, we were in post, and I'd
- 14:09Speaker 3: have a long day, and then I'd end up at
- 14:11Speaker 3: Peter's house to watch the episodes as they're airing.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Okay, you're right. That is not normal.
- 14:15Speaker 6: That was not the Uber driver saying there's only one
- 14:18Speaker 6: address I can take you to.
- 14:18Speaker 2: And not only that, you are not in production anymore,
- 14:20Speaker 2: but he is still sequestered.
- 14:22Speaker 7: He can't be with the person that he is engaged
- 14:24Speaker 7: to or if he has a relationship.
- 14:25Speaker 2: They are still in, I mean, the show is airing.
- 14:29Speaker 2: She should not be having that kind of relationship with him.
- 14:42Speaker 6: Wait, there's one other thing that you guys haven't mentioned.
- 14:45Speaker 6: She says at the end, you know, the angst of,
- 14:48Speaker 6: should I tell him? When do I tell him face-to-face?
- 14:51Speaker 6: I'm going to tell him. Yada, yada, yada. And then
- 14:54Speaker 6: she tells him, and what does he say? I wish
- 14:57Speaker 6: you had told me. Why did you wait so long? Not, wow,
- 15:01Speaker 6: you're my girl. It's like, what the hell are we
- 15:02Speaker 6: having this conversation for now? If that didn't give her
- 15:06Speaker 6: the closure, the information that she needed.
- 15:09Speaker 3: It did.
- 15:09Speaker 1: It definitely did.
- 15:10Speaker 6: But I'm saying- it led me to believe that this
- 15:15Speaker 6: relationship was more in her head. It was sex for him.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I will agree with this. It was definitely in her head.
- 15:20Speaker 2: It was sex for him and relationship in her head.
- 15:23Speaker 1: And I also want you.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Guys to remember because you didn't watch Pilot Pete's season.
- 15:27Speaker 3: He was very confused with everything. So he ended his engagement.
- 15:34Speaker 3: He tried to get back with his runner-up. Then he
- 15:37Speaker 3: dated the girl that was fourth place on and off for.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Four years after filming.
- 15:43Speaker 3: She broke up with him the final time, by the way,
- 15:46Speaker 3: and went on a podcast and said the reason she
- 15:48Speaker 3: broke up with him... was because he liked to play
- 15:50Speaker 3: video games and Pokemon.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Oh, my.
- 15:53Speaker 3: No.
- 15:54Speaker 6: Oh, my.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I'm just kidding.
- 15:55Speaker 2: All these amazing women. At his mom's house. He was
- 15:58Speaker 2: The Bachelor.
- 15:59Speaker 3: So I'm just saying, when I've heard that about him
- 16:03Speaker 3: and his level of maturity and her being slightly older,
- 16:08Speaker 3: but how she portrays her level of maturity in this book,
- 16:12Speaker 3: it does feel like a connect. But as somebody who
- 16:16Speaker 3: has been in situations where, for a living- I've put
- 16:19Speaker 3: very hot single men on television and gotten them to
- 16:23Speaker 3: open up to me. Put them in these romantic situations.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Did you ever feel anything?
- 16:31Speaker 2: Absolutely not. But I will say that I said this
- 16:34Speaker 2: to somebody.
- 16:34Speaker 6: Because she's a professional.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Well, I said this to somebody the other day.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I have had male contestants who have texted me and said,
- 16:42Speaker 3: when I get on the show, when I come out
- 16:44Speaker 3: to LA for finals, when da-da-da-da-da-da-da, I'd like to take
- 16:48Speaker 3: you for a drink.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I'd like to take you for dinner. Da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
- 16:52Speaker 6: Just as a.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Courtesy or as a flirt?
- 16:54Speaker 2: Who knows? But the answer is it's a no. And
- 16:57Speaker 2: it's inappropriate.
- 16:59Speaker 3: And I've never done it except for I did have
- 17:01Speaker 3: one guy on a show who wanted to take me
- 17:04Speaker 3: to breakfast.
- 17:05Speaker 2: He was in town. And I said... Absolutely.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Let me see if my associate is available to join us.
- 17:12Speaker 2: I know he would like to see you as well.
- 17:14Speaker 2: That was smart.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Because what went through my mind and what should have
- 17:18Speaker 3: gone through her mind when she was doing this was, no,
- 17:22Speaker 3: what if I bump into my boss when I'm out?
- 17:25Speaker 3: What if I bump into an executive from the show
- 17:28Speaker 3: who then sees me with this guy alone?
- 17:30Speaker 2: These are all things that I would never want to
- 17:33Speaker 2: be known as a girl who.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Fraternizes or hangs out with the talent by the way
- 17:40Speaker 3: at the end of the day it's a job and
- 17:42Speaker 3: i'm able.
- 17:43Speaker 1: To separate disconnect.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Because i'm not this person's friend i'm doing my job
- 17:49Speaker 3: i'm getting them an opportunity now that's excluded with these
- 17:52Speaker 3: ladies here today because you're all friends with me and
- 17:55Speaker 3: i love.
- 17:56Speaker 1: You all one thing jim did you and bennett ever
- 17:58Speaker 1: go out for a meal Just the two of you?
- 18:01Speaker 6: Bennett, Bradford.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Bradford, excuse me.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I talk to Bradford all the time. I'm an
- 18:06Speaker 2: engaged woman. Would that be.
- 18:08Speaker 1: The same kind of thing?
- 18:10Speaker 6: No, because Joan did not sleep with Bradford.
- 18:12Speaker 3: When I hear this, and I read her story, and
- 18:15Speaker 3: I hear that she's going over to.
- 18:18Speaker 2: His house, and she's engaging and drinking.
- 18:21Speaker 1: And families getting together.
- 18:23Speaker 6: I'm like you, and now we're a victim. When I
- 18:27Speaker 6: read self-help books or biographies or diaries, whatever you want
- 18:33Speaker 6: to call them, I come away sometimes with life lessons
- 18:39Speaker 6: that are applicable to my life. I came away from
- 18:42Speaker 6: reading this exactly what you said. You went and drank
- 18:46Speaker 6: with them. That's why I called it self-serving. I did
- 18:50Speaker 6: not take any life lessons from people. her journey. And
- 18:56Speaker 6: I felt that she used Bachelor as a framework to
- 19:01Speaker 6: sort of just spout off about bad behavior, manipulation, things
- 19:06Speaker 6: that did not really give me any nuggets of, oh, wow,
- 19:14Speaker 6: I can take that and use it for my life.
- 19:16Speaker 3: I think the overall thing that you could say is
- 19:20Speaker 3: that she dreamed big enough to get on the show.
- 19:24Speaker 2: And she got herself to the show.
- 19:25Speaker 6: She did.
- 19:26Speaker 1: She started young and she was on the talk show
- 19:29Speaker 1: forever and doing great and got bored on The Doctors
- 19:32Speaker 1: and then moved on and always wanted The Bachelor. To me,
- 19:36Speaker 1: it was her story.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Of course.
- 19:38Speaker 1: People that read it take what you want out of it.
- 19:40Speaker 6: I'm going to write mine and you're going to read it.
- 19:42Speaker 1: And would you like me to say what you're saying?
- 19:45Speaker 1: I didn't get one. What did you say?
- 19:47Speaker 6: I didn't get any nuggets out of her life.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Nuggets out of your life.
- 19:51Speaker 7: I felt like she had a positive message. Like, the
- 19:53Speaker 7: positive message evolved throughout the story. The story was very long.
- 19:57Speaker 1: It was a little bit.
- 19:58Speaker 6: And they had some bachelor.
- 20:00Speaker 7: Stuff mixed in it, pilot stuff mixed in it, with
- 20:03Speaker 7: other relationships and family stuff mixed in it.
- 20:05Speaker 6: That's what she used to sell the book.
- 20:06Speaker 2: It was just a little older. The ending is that
- 20:08Speaker 2: you need the ending. The long poem at the end
- 20:10Speaker 2: was so not needed. That was really crazy.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a little dreadful.
- 20:14Speaker 6: What is the value in the book?
- 20:15Speaker 1: Tell me.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I felt like.
- 20:18Speaker 4: No, you should be the leading lady.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Of your own life.
- 20:20Speaker 6: I did not need to listen five and a half
- 20:22Speaker 6: hours to an audio book to get that. I know that.
- 20:28Speaker 6: I don't give up on my dreams. I've taught my
- 20:30Speaker 6: children to dream.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Right, and that's what she did. She just shared it
- 20:35Speaker 1: with the world.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Who cares?
- 20:37Speaker 1: And her take was, because she had that, situation with
- 20:41Speaker 1: him if.
- 20:42Speaker 6: She did not have the situation with pilot right that's
- 20:45Speaker 6: what and did not have that place in the bachelor
- 20:48Speaker 6: her book would have gathered doesn't matter though she did
- 20:52Speaker 6: it is that's the book.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Let's talk though about the part about her possibly being
- 21:07Speaker 3: the bachelorette that's thrown in there yeah That would be
- 21:11Speaker 3: highly unlikely.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I thought....
- 21:15Speaker 3: I have conspiracy theory about all of it.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Did that really... Was that really said? Is that what
- 21:23Speaker 1: you're questioning?
- 21:23Speaker 3: Well, first of all, it has to be real because
- 21:25Speaker 3: she did run this book by ABC and they approved it.
- 21:28Speaker 2: And there's a lot of Mike Fleiss comments in it.
- 21:30Speaker 2: So direct quotes. So it had to have happened.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Now....
- 21:37Speaker 2: It's hinted at from the very beginning.
- 21:40Speaker 3: She gets bumped up into this role and immediately somebody
- 21:44Speaker 3: is saying to her.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Well, we hope you don't fall in love with Pilot Pete.
- 21:48Speaker 2: It was weird, wasn't it?
- 21:49Speaker 1: Yeah, the seed was planted. I saw that. So the
- 21:51Speaker 1: seed's planted, right?
- 21:52Speaker 2: So somebody else is saying it to her right away.
- 21:54Speaker 2: You wouldn't be stupid enough to fall in love with him.
- 21:56Speaker 3: You wouldn't be stupid enough to do that. Let me
- 21:58Speaker 3: tell you, I've, never had anybody say.
- 22:02Speaker 2: That to me. So the seeds planted, right?
- 22:05Speaker 3: So then they start filming the season and she keeps
- 22:08Speaker 3: asking herself throughout this whole time, am I falling for him?
- 22:12Speaker 2: Do I like him? Is something happening? She keeps asking herself.
- 22:15Speaker 2: She's not sure. And then the family starts saying they're
- 22:19Speaker 2: so cute. Well, guess what?
- 22:21Speaker 3: Anytime we get some elderly people together and there's cute
- 22:25Speaker 3: young people.
- 22:26Speaker 1: They love it.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Everybody says that. I don't hold a whole lot of weight.
- 22:30Speaker 2: It's very true.
- 22:30Speaker 3: I don't hold a lot of weight in that.
- 22:32Speaker 6: We all say it.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Everybody says it.
- 22:34Speaker 3: I've been told that me and the guy at the
- 22:36Speaker 3: grocery store would be cute together.
- 22:38Speaker 6: Whatever.
- 22:38Speaker 2: It's like, it's what happens.
- 22:40Speaker 6: Wait, if you don't want them, can I have them?
- 22:42Speaker 7: Sure.
- 22:42Speaker 6: Okay.
- 22:43Speaker 2: But then... They talk about the chatter online starts.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Because the picture from New Year's Eve. Because the picture
- 22:50Speaker 2: from New Year's Eve.
- 22:51Speaker 3: And I want to get into this because this is
- 22:53Speaker 3: where my conspiracy theory starts to run wild is that, yes,
- 22:59Speaker 3: we know that Bachelor Nation fans deep dive and they
- 23:02Speaker 3: come up with things.
- 23:02Speaker 5: Yes, they do.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Their opinions.
- 23:05Speaker 3: I think that this show is very heavily ingrained in
- 23:09Speaker 3: the narration of what comes out into the press. She
- 23:13Speaker 3: goes into great detail about how happy she felt and
- 23:18Speaker 3: accomplished she felt when she made it onto page six.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Of all places.
- 23:22Speaker 1: She did say that.
- 23:23Speaker 3: She is featured and she talks about in every major
- 23:27Speaker 3: news article. So we're not talking just about, but we're
- 23:30Speaker 3: not just talking about Reddit threads. And that's where the
- 23:32Speaker 3: Bachelor fans live. But who has the connections to the
- 23:37Speaker 3: press outlets? The PR for the show.
- 23:40Speaker 2: So to me.
- 23:42Speaker 3: It's a planted story to garner up press. Do I
- 23:46Speaker 3: think that they ever had intention to make her the Bachelorette?
- 23:51Speaker 3: Absolutely not. Do I think that they dangled the carrot? Absolutely.
- 23:57Speaker 2: I think it's not nice, but she was older. She
- 24:02Speaker 2: says this. She would have been the oldest Bachelorette.
- 24:05Speaker 6: She was six years older than Pilate.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yes, she would have been the oldest at the time.
- 24:09Speaker 2: She is.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Has a huge history of being in production. People like
- 24:15Speaker 3: us never even make it past the starting line if
- 24:18Speaker 3: you want to be on a TV show. I've also
- 24:21Speaker 3: worked with people that are past contestants on different shows,
- 24:24Speaker 3: and it never really works out. Talent always will say
- 24:29Speaker 3: to me, oh, I've been talent, so I know how
- 24:31Speaker 3: to find talent.
- 24:32Speaker 2: No, that's not how it works.
- 24:34Speaker 3: So it's usually a tough thing to go from being
- 24:37Speaker 3: on camera to being behind the camera, but She clearly
- 24:40Speaker 3: had aspirations of being in front of the camera.
- 24:43Speaker 2: She was in modeling. She liked this. She, you know, applied.
- 24:47Speaker 1: She loved the fact that she might be able to pick,
- 24:50Speaker 1: find love.
- 24:51Speaker 3: And I think that she enjoys the idea, right?
- 24:55Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 24:57Speaker 3: they had any intention of ever giving her that role,
- 25:01Speaker 3: but they probably weren't sure that the story was going
- 25:04Speaker 3: to take off like it did.
- 25:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 3: And I think then they felt they had to do
- 25:08Speaker 3: a follow-up, like a follow-through on that, and then close
- 25:11Speaker 3: the loop.
- 25:12Speaker 1: To keep it going.
- 25:12Speaker 6: I don't think that's conspiracy theory at all. I think
- 25:15Speaker 6: you are right on the money.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Because you know what it sounds very much like?
- 25:19Speaker 7: So I remember when I went on The Golden Bachelor,
- 25:21Speaker 7: and we're all in this room with this guy that
- 25:23Speaker 7: we hardly know, and producers are saying to you, isn't
- 25:26Speaker 7: he cute? Like, I think he likes you. And then
- 25:29Speaker 7: they're like, she really likes him. Like, and she's talking
- 25:32Speaker 7: to him a lot more than you. Like, they were
- 25:35Speaker 7: dangling that carrot over her. Like, you wouldn't be stupid
- 25:37Speaker 7: enough to fall in love with him, would you?
- 25:38Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 25:39Speaker 1: But that's being good producers. They want the show to
- 25:41Speaker 1: be good.
- 25:41Speaker 2: They're doing good producers, but now they're saying that they
- 25:43Speaker 2: are doing the same thing to her, maybe. You would never,
- 25:46Speaker 2: ever say that to your coworker.
- 25:50Speaker 3: If we were like back in a hotel, like, okay,
- 25:52Speaker 3: me and my coworkers, when we're pitching guys and we're
- 25:54Speaker 3: putting guys into the mix for a show, I'll be like,
- 25:56Speaker 3: oh my God, what a dreamboat.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Oh my God, so cute. But I would never be like...
- 26:01Speaker 2: Are you falling in love with him? Are you going
- 26:03Speaker 2: to hit that? Are you going to DM him after
- 26:06Speaker 2: and get with him? You would never.
- 26:09Speaker 6: Let me be clear. You are saying, which I think
- 26:11Speaker 6: I agree, that this was... premeditated by absolutely and you
- 26:16Speaker 6: know what i absolutely.
- 26:18Speaker 3: If you all think that this show does not have
- 26:21Speaker 3: a strong hold on the press that it gets.
- 26:23Speaker 5: And hold on the narration of that that's what makes
- 26:27Speaker 5: the show that is what makes it yes so the
- 26:31Speaker 5: fact that she never had any sort of inkling and
- 26:34Speaker 5: started this feeling of Oh my gosh, my segment producer
- 26:38Speaker 5: and I were just talking and I opened up to
- 26:40Speaker 5: her and said, I kind of have a crush on Pete.
- 26:42Speaker 2: But really, the first.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Inkling came from another coworker pointing it out to her.
- 26:47Speaker 2: That's when I said, planting the seed. Because that's what
- 26:51Speaker 2: Bachelor does. That's what they do.
- 26:53Speaker 6: So wait, to be clear, are you saying that a
- 26:56Speaker 6: coworker of hers... Got it from the higher up, plant
- 27:01Speaker 6: the seed.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Yes.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Wow.
- 27:02Speaker 1: That only has to be said once.
- 27:04Speaker 4: So do you think that they wanted something to happen
- 27:07Speaker 4: during the shooting of this season?
- 27:09Speaker 2: I don't think they wanted something to happen.
- 27:11Speaker 3: I think that they liked the idea of the press
- 27:13Speaker 3: being drummed up so you had to tune in to
- 27:15Speaker 3: see what happened.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Because this is the thing. Theories stay on Reddit.
- 27:20Speaker 3: When it gets to the major press, major press outlets
- 27:23Speaker 3: don't run.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Theories.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:25Speaker 2: They double check it.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Yes. And how about when he did do the breakup
- 27:29Speaker 1: and she was like all that time passed that he
- 27:31Speaker 1: never reached out to her? That's your clue right there.
- 27:36Speaker 6: But see, that's why I'm reading this going, this is
- 27:39Speaker 6: a story that is literally being written in her head.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I believe that.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yeah, this is her story.
- 27:44Speaker 1: That's exactly how I felt.
- 27:46Speaker 2: That's what happened. It's her feeling, her emotion. They're making
- 27:49Speaker 2: you do it.
- 27:49Speaker 3: They're making you start to conjure up these feelings and
- 27:53Speaker 3: that's what everybody falls in love with the lead they're
- 27:56Speaker 3: very good at it but this goes back to me
- 27:58Speaker 3: saying she's not the kind of typical personality i would
- 28:02Speaker 3: work with behind the scenes she seems easily manipulated and
- 28:09Speaker 3: i think that that's they like that they do to.
- 28:13Speaker 2: A certain extent right i don't think.
- 28:15Speaker 4: With the lead you should can i ask you a
- 28:16Speaker 4: tough question with the lead.
- 28:20Speaker 6: Because you, I admire you. You know that. I think
- 28:22Speaker 6: you're a really smart woman, and I think you're very intuitive.
- 28:27Speaker 6: Do you think that she was promoted? Why do you
- 28:31Speaker 6: think she was promoted so quickly?
- 28:32Speaker 2: High turnover on the show.
- 28:34Speaker 6: Okay.
- 28:34Speaker 3: I think no other reason. And I think, obviously, I
- 28:37Speaker 3: think she's also very high positivity. I think that's good energy.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Her energy, yes.
- 28:42Speaker 3: But that's, I think, a reason why she didn't connect
- 28:44Speaker 3: with Hannah. I think Hannah is extremely strong and saw
- 28:48Speaker 3: her as weak.
- 28:50Speaker 2: And I think that's why.
- 28:51Speaker 4: I thought she saw her as a threat. I think
- 28:54Speaker 4: she saw through it.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I think she.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Saw the fact.
- 28:58Speaker 3: I think that it was her first time being a
- 29:01Speaker 3: lead producer.
- 29:03Speaker 2: And I think she second guessed herself probably a lot.
- 29:06Speaker 1: And if she was.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Needing to tag team and have somebody come in and
- 29:10Speaker 3: help her get bites and all that kind of stuff.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Why am I going to talk to this girl? She
- 29:14Speaker 2: doesn't know how to.
- 29:15Speaker 8: Get it out of me.
- 29:15Speaker 2: She doesn't know what she's doing yet. And she's also
- 29:17Speaker 2: bad at her job. You know what I mean? I'm
- 29:19Speaker 2: not saying she's bad, but I think that that's the vibe.
- 29:21Speaker 7: She seems very confident. She talks about herself in a
- 29:24Speaker 7: very confident way. Other than when finding love.
- 29:27Speaker 2: I didn't get that vibe. I didn't either. I didn't either.
- 29:32Speaker 2: I got the vibe in the book. I haven't listened
- 29:33Speaker 2: to the interview.
- 29:34Speaker 3: But all the interview press that she did, I did
- 29:37Speaker 3: not get confident.
- 29:38Speaker 4: I didn't get that either.
- 29:38Speaker 2: I got it in the book.
- 29:40Speaker 3: I don't think she's ever had it this is what
- 29:43Speaker 3: I mean like she is not a personality.
- 29:46Speaker 2: That you would meet on set I want to wrap
- 29:50Speaker 2: it up on this.
- 29:52Speaker 3: What would you rate the book out of four stars
- 29:55Speaker 3: two 2.3.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends.
- 30:01Speaker 6: Okay.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I'm going to give it a two, though, because I
- 30:03Speaker 2: think it has.
- 30:03Speaker 6: A few interesting chapters in it. I'm not going to
- 30:06Speaker 6: rate it. I'm going to say I wish I had
- 30:08Speaker 6: the hours back that I spent listening to it.
- 30:11Speaker 1: You're hardcore.
- 30:13Speaker 2: She's scary.
