- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and this is Luna. Luna: Hey everyone! Ready for a new episode? Lucas: Today we're going to learn how to give simple directions. Imagine you're at the park and someone asks you for directions. Luna: Oh, like 'turn left' or 'turn right'? I've always gotten those mixed up in Spanish. Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with the basics: a la izquierda means 'to the left.' Listen: a la izquierda. Luna: A la izquierda. That's left, right? Lucas: Right. And a la derecha means 'to the right.' A la derecha. Luna: A la derecha. So 'turn left' would be... vuelta a la izquierda? Lucas: Close. We usually say gira a la izquierda. Gira means 'turn.' So gira a la izquierda. Luna: Gira a la izquierda. And 'turn right' is gira a la derecha. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if you want someone to go straight, you say sigue recto. Sigue recto. Luna: Sigue recto. That's easy. But what if there's a bridge? Like 'cross the bridge'? Lucas: Great question. Cuza el puente means 'cross the bridge.' Cruza el puente. Luna: Cruza el puente. That sounds nice. Lucas: And if something is 'around the corner,' you say está a la vuelta. Está a la vuelta. Luna: Está a la vuelta. So I could say 'the bathroom is around the corner'? Lucas: Exactly. El baño está a la vuelta. Let's practice all five in a row. First: a la izquierda. Luna: A la izquierda. Lucas: A la derecha. Luna: A la derecha. Lucas: Sigue recto. Luna: Sigue recto. Lucas: Cruza el puente. Luna: Cruza el puente. Lucas: Está a la vuelta. Luna: Está a la vuelta. Lucas: Great. Now let's put them in a little scene. Imagine you're at the park and there's a fountain. Someone asks: ¿Dónde está el tobogán? Luna: Oh, 'Where is the slide?' I remember that from earlier episodes. Lucas: Right. And you could answer: Gira a la izquierda, sigue recto, y está a la vuelta. Luna: So 'Turn left, go straight, and it's around the corner.' Got it. Can I try? Lucas: Please. Luna: Gira a la izquierda, sigue recto, y está a la vuelta. Lucas: That was perfect. Now one more: if you want to say 'cross the bridge and turn right,' you say cruza el puente y gira a la derecha. Luna: Cruza el puente y gira a la derecha. I love how it flows. Lucas: It does. Let's do a quick drill. I'll say the English, you say the Spanish. 'To the left.' Luna: A la izquierda. Lucas: 'To the right.' Luna: A la derecha. Lucas: 'Go straight.' Luna: Sigue recto. Lucas: 'Cross the bridge.' Luna: Cruza el puente. Lucas: 'It's around the corner.' Luna: Está a la vuelta. Lucas: Excellent. You're ready to give directions at the park. Luna: If today was actually useful to you, the way these stay ad-free is listener support. You can buy me a coffee at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. I'll remember that. Lucas: Keep practicing, and next time someone asks for directions in Spanish, you'll know what to say. See you next episode. Luna: Adiós!
