- 3:43another amazing queen that's behind prison walls and she's gonna be sharing a little bit
- 3:50with us tonight. If you would please introduce yourself to those that are tune
- 3:57in Shohama. I'm currently incorporated at the Hobby Unit, which is also known
- 4:06as Hobby Hell. It's pretty horrible here, guys. One story is kind
- 4:13of a tough one and it's hard on a capital murder charge and uh CO
- 4:23heard from my public offender attorney to uh flee out to a lesser charge of
- 4:31serious. It was serious, barkly tered. So he can't explain to me
- 4:36at all anything that was really going on. I was twenty five years old,
- 4:41I had three young and some circumstances with up to a horrible, horrible
- 4:50situation. And I was completely blond sided. I was completely blind sided and
- 4:58young, and I trested the I trusted the system. I trusted the system.
- 5:02My I was in county. I could maybe I love two here and
- 5:06uh waiting on trial. I went to trial. I didn't see what I
- 5:10atturney maybe two times before I went to trial. On the trial day,
- 5:14the day of Jerry's selection, he come in. He came in and bombarded
- 5:17me with, uh, I'm gonna you're gonna take a plea deal. And
- 5:24I was like, I'm not taking a see deal. I don't want to
- 5:28do that. I really don't understand, and that I just want to go
- 5:30on and tell my story of what happened. And he was like, you're
- 5:33facing the death county. They're going to kill you if you do take the
- 5:36fleet and said, I have three small kids, like to go home.
- 5:44I thought, I didn't want to do about it. I cried, I
- 5:46went in, Uh back to the pot I caught my grandmother, and I
- 5:48thought my grandmother was going on, and she advised me, you know,
- 5:53trusting the justice done, to do where the man said. So I did.
- 5:59I played out. I took to please you know. He told me
- 6:01I needed to change my story to match what the indictment said, and pretty
- 6:08much led me into a story. So I didn't realize that when I was
- 6:13going actually going. I thought I was going to trial, but I was
- 6:15actually doing that open plea. I didn't find out what an open plea was
- 6:19until I was already incarported on the Hobney Unit. Well, probably got nine
- 6:25years into my sentence, and I just felt like I was young. I
- 6:31was just led. I was pro hears even against my better judgment. I
- 6:39did what the attorney told me to do, and so then they took the
- 6:42attorney told me to say and lost my life. I lost everything. I
- 6:49have the seventy five year sentence. I've done nineteen years flat on a seventy
- 6:55five er since I lost my mother, I lost my grandmother, I lost
- 6:58my aunt, I bought my you. In a sense, I've lost everything
- 7:02I have death and the things that I do have, the people that I
- 7:08do have in my life are not even which you would consider blood family.
- 7:11It's a lady that it was the best best friend of an inn that was
- 7:16in my blood hand and her name has started it and she has been a
- 7:21pillar strength of my life. It's pretty hard in here, the things that
- 7:29we see, the things that we go through. Uh, we have to
- 7:32watch our peer be beta by other end that if we intervene, then we're
- 7:38in trouble. We don't intervene, then we're in trouble. You know,
- 7:41we're held accountable for what other people do. And uh, it's hard,
- 7:45it's difficult. We're alone in here. If we need help, we need
- 7:47help. So if you can help, if you can use your voice to
- 7:51help, we need it. Or not strends properly, we don't. We
- 7:55don't have to write. Our water is not clean. I was in the
- 7:58hobby unit, got a parasite that a through my intestens and had to have
- 8:03at least five different surgeries on my colon and uh, you know, I
- 8:07mean it's horrible. It just died. The way they do it, it
- 8:11really is, and we need help. They physically mentally abuse us. They
- 8:16try to go us into fighting even them, you know, and that's just
- 8:22crazy, because it's very, very crazy the things that go on here.
- 8:26Pretty much we have each other, we don't have each other, we don't
- 8:30have anything else, and they just need some help. We need help.
- 8:35That's sad. This is just another case of how the Texas judicial system alienates
- 8:48and victimize the citizens. Like I'm not from Texas and these cases they just
- 8:58baffle me and it it bothers me, Like, I don't see how the
- 9:05citizens of Texas allow this, and they keep allowing these people that are in
- 9:09charge in charge be in charge. You know, I'm listening and hearing different
- 9:18things from different people, and there's a pattern with the Texas judicial system.
- 9:24There's a serious pattern. There's there's corruption first of all, and and these
- 9:31lawyers it's like they're working with the prosecutors and the judges to meet quota and
- 9:37and and to meet these different things. You know, I'm finding out that
- 9:43they are paying these these expert witnesses thousands of thousands of dollars to come and
- 9:52be expert witnesses and then they getting on understand and lying and not even producing
- 10:01evidence, and they're just going along with what the people are saying. Now,
- 10:05I heard you say that your lawyer told you what to say and changed
- 10:13everything. Okay, So he pretty much the indictment or whatever had drawed out
- 10:20what they thought had happened or whatever the situation was, and they made you
- 10:28go along with that is what you're saying. When I called him the events
- 10:33of the day of that accident, he was like, I'm gonna get you
- 10:39out of here, and you don't have to worry about his money deal,
- 10:41you know. So I was I had high hopes, you know. And
- 10:46of course now that's not what happened became and he was like, repay complete
- 10:50Bill. They're gonna have the indictment, this, this, and this,
- 10:54and the story that you're telling me that you want to share with these people
- 10:58is behind go to match the indictment. So therefore it's like, and let
- 11:03you get the free built. So I need you to take the streets to
- 11:05match this, this, and this certain things out of the indictment. And
- 11:09I'm like, what, you know. It didn't feel right. It was
- 11:13not the right thing to do at all, and I went against my better
- 11:15judgment, but I just wanted to be believe that my mind, this name
- 11:20was trying to help me that and hen he was talking about but I have
- 11:26been incorporated, graduating in a paralegal course, and now I see no,
- 11:35I was never even eligible for that. They had no food or evidence of
- 11:37anything. You know, if I was to trial, it could have been
- 11:41a whole different ways. And I didn't know any of these things. So
- 11:46that's what That's exactly what happened. And uh yeah, and and and in
- 11:52Texas they used that you because you didn't know, It doesn't matter. It's
- 12:00not their fault that you didn't know, because they are on this time thing
- 12:05where you have a certain amount of time that you have to appeal to go
- 12:11against the judgment or whatever the case may be, whether you are innocent or
- 12:16not. That's what I'm finding out because there are so many people that did
- 12:20not commit the crimes that these people have said that they have committed, and
- 12:24they have been proven that they did not commit these crimes, have documentations,
- 12:28and these people still will not let them go home. And even judges have
- 12:35written inmates and told inmates that if this is true, and this is true,
- 12:43not trying to implicate themselves, but know that they are part of the
- 12:48problem, and know that they have the key to set these people free.
- 12:52But if they set them free, then they know that they're going to be
- 12:56in trouble. It's so much with the state of Texas to it's just crazy.
- 13:01I just can't believe that all this stuff is going on in the stateium
- 13:07the Texas and nobody is doing anything about it. You know, I'm hearing
- 13:13about the food. I'm hearing about the living conditions. Like last week,
- 13:20it's been about two weeks ago. I had to write a letter to the
- 13:26administration about food over at Connolly and McConnell. Worms and worms or maggots or
- 13:35whatever the case may be. They arguing about what it was. No the
- 13:41point that something outside of food was in food. That's an issue, that
- 13:48is a serious issue. So some people got fired and a whole bunch of
- 13:52food got thrown away. So they probably hot at me right now, but
- 13:58I don't care. Helpfully, Yeah, it's and there's an article. There's
- 14:05an article coming out in this month's magazine about you'all. Look that I've been
- 14:13making noise about the hobby unit for about two months now, So somebody gonna
- 14:20sooner or later, somebody gonna somebody gonna say something because I've been Yeah,
- 14:26they've they've been hearing it and I'm not stopping. Yeah. Oh, it's
- 14:33the water conditions. Like in the city of Marlon, where Hobby Union is
- 14:37located, they don't have water half as pump and the water conditions here are
- 14:41so horrible it's they stay the city of Markelin stays on the boil band.
- 14:48And I'm gonna say nine for some of the comms. They never tell the
- 14:52Prince. We're never notified. They never boil out of water. So when
- 14:58the rest of the city is on their boiled ends, but you here doesn't
- 15:01take cautions to make sure theur water is boiled and stuff like that. They
- 15:07don't even usually tell us. It's pretty discussing and that is a violation of
- 15:13your human rights. Everybody in everybody in those units need to be complaining.
- 15:20Y'all need to be complaining. Yeah, I try to as much as I
- 15:26can tell people to find diplomatically, to use the greements process to try to
- 15:31take things furner. But women don't really stick together in here. Well,
- 15:37there's a few of us that do, you know, and stand up and
- 15:41stick together, but the women here, they don't. A lot of the
- 15:45time we are interpertly from making a complaint the kind of the retaliation that goes
- 15:54on here. There was a time where if you wrote agreements on this unit,
- 15:58but the agreements officer which to tear it up and thrown away, you
- 16:00would never see it or hear from it if you care about it again,
- 16:04and a lot of the prompts the higher rank and don't take anything seriously like
- 16:11it's not as serious matter. It's just this is like one of the most
- 16:17quarterly rand units I have been on. If you want to be an inmate
- 16:21and you want to run around crazy and live your life and do what you
- 16:25want to do and don't have any structure, this is probably units to be
- 16:27on. But if you want structure, if you want to wake up to
- 16:32the routine and you know, make sure that you're going to get a shower
- 16:36every day, you're going to have to get out to chow every day,
- 16:38and this is really not the unit for that to happen, because nothing remains
- 16:44the same year every day. It's something different. There's like a spirit of
- 16:48oppression on the unit. It's very oppressive. It's horrible the way the staff
- 16:53act, how they talk to us, the things that they do. It's
- 16:57very very very professional and not helpful at all. I don't take anything serious.
- 17:04I literally had a throat what was it like maybe last summer the summer
- 17:11before last, had a stroke and the captains of the unit takes got me
- 17:17in a wheelchair. And I better not going to tell those people that my
- 17:19chest was hurting me because they didn't have enough staff to take me off to
- 17:22give it to the hospital. And the next day they sent me in a
- 17:26medical They left me here with no medical treatment because medical had already been closed.
- 17:30The next day they sent me in a medical and the nurse freaked out.
- 17:36She my food pressure had dropped so low that she immediately caused the provider
- 17:41and with the nine to one one yon unit and uh, of course they
- 17:49covered up and faced it was all due to a urinary tract infection. But
- 17:52at the side of my face went dumb and my chest was hurting, and
- 17:57that's not a gurinary attraction in faction and uh, some are all, but
- 18:03I don't care. Don't take care of each other. We can end up
- 18:07dead very easily, that's right. And that's an issue because they they and
- 18:18I keep stressing this and I'm not gonna I'm not gonna let it go.
- 18:22If t d c J do not have enough officers to make sure that they're
- 18:26doing what they're supposed to do, that they're keeping these facilities properly staffed so
- 18:33that they can give out the nutritious meal. Because the meals are not nutritious.
- 18:37They're not making their rounds. So make sure that the welfare checks are
- 18:41being done. I've heard that some of the units never get welfare checks.
- 18:48They they these these people go in and they look whatever their cages and stay
- 18:56in their cages. That don't come out and check. They stay in their
- 18:57cages the whole time they were at work, and nobody is holding these people
- 19:02accountable. And that's what happened this past weekend over at Clemens, and h
- 19:08inmate walk right on out the door because they're not doing their jobs. It
- 19:14may walk right out the door and guess what happened. The two wardens got
- 19:19fired, a captain and some and some and some more correction officers, and
- 19:29they have not been doing their job. They've been over there just doing whatever
- 19:34and and letting whoever do whatever. Because I had some issues with with the
- 19:40warden over there anyway, because they were allowing other inmates to steal other inmates
- 19:47stuff, and they knew this was going on. Like, that's one of
- 19:52the units where you can go to school. So one of the guys that's
- 19:56a part of the Free Texas campaign, he is going to school. And
- 20:03he said twice he's went to school and come back and his whole sale had
- 20:10been wiped out. He said the last time, they took everything out of
- 20:12his cell but his bible, and they did absolutely nothing about it. And
- 20:22then they tried to give him a case because he told his family member,
- 20:26and his family member reported it and they tried to give him a case.
- 20:30He got bous case now and then now that all this stuff has happened over
- 20:34there, you got ranking officers telling him that hopefully, hopefully that they'll take
- 20:41those bogus charges off of him. How can y'all know that these people are
- 20:47doing this bous stuff? And y'all are like, but wow, a lot
- 21:00of people are everybody. Everybody related to everybody here, and then of course
- 21:06they have their relationships and stuff like that, and that's how it goes there.
- 21:08If one officer doesn't like you, then they can lie on you and
- 21:12take you did something they didn't do, and then they all sit together and
- 21:15they cover it up and it's really crazy. It's like it's like nobody has
- 21:21her own mind. So it doesn't be any good because the ranking offer on
- 21:26a correctional officer because them, that's something's going on, because they all pick
- 21:30together and cover everything that it's ridiculous, like nobody does the right thing here
- 21:36at all, whatever's right, they're doing the opposite of that. Wow,
- 21:41that is sad and like, well, like I say, I'm continuing to
- 21:48write these different different people, and as I write them, I said,
- 21:53I'm not just writing one person. I write a slew of them. There's
- 21:59probably about twenty to twenty five people included in these emails when I send them
- 22:03out. And I think the unbust when he might have been upset with me
- 22:10when I wrote about the food situation, but it got a couple of people
- 22:15fired and then they got a whole bunch of food got thrown out. And
- 22:22I think the guys at Connolly and the guys at McConnell, they kind of
- 22:29right now. But like I say, we were gonna keep making noise.
- 22:36You know, change is not gonna happen overnight, but just know that change
- 22:41is here. I just I changed that I desired this in this world.
- 22:48I can't sit quietly and allow anything that is out of the norm around me
- 22:56to be out of the norm, because I truly believe that once you come
- 23:00into the knowledge of something, you have to act upon that, because that's
- 23:03the word, and I just believe that. And this has been placed in
- 23:10my lap, has been placed in my hand, and I just have to
- 23:14be obedient. So I just I'm just doing what I can do to be
- 23:18a voice and to allow you guys to be able to share because me being
- 23:23me talking about it and me sharing, you know, people hearing it from
- 23:27you guys, it's the best thing. Because they hearing it directly from the
- 23:32people that are involved. They're not getting a third party because of course,
- 23:37you know that they're gonna be over there disputing it. Everybody in charge gonna
- 23:41be over there disputing it, and it's gonna be here, say he said.
- 23:45But if they hear it from you guys, they can hear exactly what's
- 23:48going on. Why would y'all lie, like, really, I think on
- 23:59helping us a platform to bounce off of, and you're helping us give us,
- 24:03help give us a voice again, And that's very amazing and I'm very
- 24:07very grateful for it. I believe that people make mistakes, but I don't
- 24:11believe that they are the mistakes, and I believe that people can come back
- 24:15from those and also just wondering, thank you for that. I appreciate you
- 24:19taking your time out and allow me to share with you the things that I
- 24:25got learning here and for us and an advocate for us that I feel like
- 24:30we don't have an advocate at many times. You know, well, I'm
- 24:34here, the platform is here, and y'all are more than welcome to come
- 24:40back, because I know just just thirty minutes is just not enough for you
- 24:42to be able to share everything. So anytime you you want to stop by,
- 24:48just let me know and we will get your own and allow y'all to
- 24:53share because I want people to really see. Thanks what's going on. You
- 25:00welcome sweetheart again, y'all. That was another young lady that is currently incarcerated
- 25:07within t d c J the hobby. Look unit, y'all, what these
- 25:12women are experiencing they should not be experiencing. It's basic human rights, the
- 25:19the the basic necessities of human rights to be being treated with dignity. You
- 25:27know, we all make mistakes. We all do stuff that we should not
- 25:32be doing. Just some of us we didn't get caught, so therefore we
- 25:37didn't end up in prison. But something they they are doing time they are
- 25:45they have accepted their punishment, and they're being punished for their their what the
- 25:51crime that they've done. You can't keep punishing somebody for something that they are
- 25:57like, help them, help them recover, help them rehab, help them
- 26:03to prepare to be able to come back to society. But with how these
- 26:11people are treating them and running them through the ringer, it's like you're tearing
- 26:17them down. You're wearing them down. You're wearing them then, and they're
- 26:21not gonna have the opportunity to come back to society and be productive citizens.
- 26:27You're giving these babies much, these young ladies that you're talking to, these
- 26:33individuals that are going in as juveniles, and then you're giving them fifty to
- 26:41seventy five and sometime one hundred years and they got to do forty of them.
- 26:47These kids are gonna be fifty five, fifty and sixty years old when
- 26:51they come out. What they gonna be able to do here? You having
- 26:53to take care of them all of this time, and then you have to
- 26:56take care of them again when they come finally do come home. Because sixty
- 27:03statistically in the state of Texas, sixty percent of the people that go up
- 27:07for parole never make parole. They are denied, so therefore they have to
- 27:15go to the door. I'm telling you Texas have some of the messed up
- 27:26laws, just like I don't get Greg Abbott right now. How are you
- 27:33passing a law where y'all finna start locking up everyone that they're gonna start stopping
- 27:40everyone that look like an immigrant, so they about the racially profile immigrants and
- 27:48if you look like an immigrant, you gonna be arrested. Prisons are already
- 27:55overflowing, you're already understaffed, but yet you want to put more You want
- 28:02to put more stress on a system that's already stressed out. You see what
- 28:08happened this weekend, what happened a couple of months ago at the same facility.
- 28:17It maates just walking out like the State of Texas. Y'all need to
- 28:26get it together because the world is watching and you are failing terribly, terribly.
- 28:36Citizens. You need to wake up and take a stand and get these
- 28:38people out of office that's not doing what they're supposed to be doing. If
- 28:42they are elected officials, they need to do what they supposed to be doing,
- 28:45and a lot of them are not. Hold them accountable, Hold them
- 28:52accountable. Well, I want to thank you guys for joining me. I
- 28:59know on y'all was like, where is Bernadette. Well, Bernadette is from
- 29:04Canada. She was not feeling well today. So I am going to bring
- 29:11her back on and in twenty twenty four. Some of these individuals SPLs that
- 29:19did not get the opportunity to come on for whatever reason another we're gonna bring
- 29:25them back in twenty twenty four if the opportunity is available, and we're gonna
- 29:33try to get them back on for twenty twenty four. But again, I
- 29:36want to thank everyone that has tuned in tonight. If you have not grabbed
- 29:40your e copy up the Forgotten Queens, go over grab your e copy.
- 29:45It is free until tomorrow. Support us and if you would like to donate,
- 29:52we are trying to make sure that a thousand of these books are inside
- 29:56the prison system that they may circulate throughout the win this prison, so that
- 30:00these women can remember that they are not forgotten and that they can find hope.
- 30:07They can find hope. So y'all, we'll be back tomorrow. Prophetess
