- 0:00I have some good news. Well, it's interesting news.
- 0:04OK, go on. I spoke to my professor.
- 0:07OK. Oh, about the the yeah.
- 0:10I said like whatever you did with your electrocute didn't
- 0:12work. Didn't work right.
- 0:14Didn't. Work.
- 0:15Yeah. Oh, OK.
- 0:16So now I get to go see my surgeon again.
- 0:18Oh, OK, so he's allowed it. Yep, he's allowed it.
- 0:22Now I've got to convince the surgeon.
- 0:26OK. So we'll see what happens, but
- 0:30I'll be allowed to go back to another ketamine treatment,
- 0:33which does work for a little bit, but not long periods.
- 0:35So I might go a ketamine treatment, go on holiday for a
- 0:37bit and then get my leg cut off. For any new listeners or
- 0:40watchers, what Luke is discussing is the fact that he
- 0:43wants his leg removed. Yes, because it annoys him.
- 0:47It annoys me and my sister wants me to get cremated so she can
- 0:50keep the ashes. OK, that's better than not
- 0:54cremated so she can keep the leg here.
- 0:57Well done to Multiple Nerdgasm with your hosts Matt, Luke, and
- 1:04Dan. Multiple Nerdgasm, Your guide to
- 1:09all things nerdy. Although she prefer it, yeah,
- 1:18she would prefer it without it being cremated.
- 1:20It's just that's going to be harder to do.
- 1:22Right. Could you do that thing where
- 1:25you can get the ashes crushed into a diamond and then she can
- 1:27make a piece of fashionable jewelry out of it?
- 1:30I think she just wants the ashes.
- 1:35All right. I prefer, all right.
- 1:36I just prefer them to be ashes. I'm sorry.
- 1:37Yeah, yeah, I'd burn it anyway. So.
- 1:42Like I can't. Burn a diamond.
- 1:43You'd get crushed into a like a gem or something and that'd be a
- 1:47bit nicer, not just burn it and then let's see, I'm trying to
- 1:51are they just going to? They're just going to take it I.
- 1:54Assume is there any tattoos on that leg?
- 1:56Yes, unfortunately. You're going to lose some
- 1:59tattoos. That's rather be.
- 2:02That's going to turn into a canvas you like stretch the skin
- 2:06on the under I. Don't think they really support
- 2:09that practice any you. Should get, you should just just
- 2:12get some really, really out there tattoos on it between now
- 2:16and then just to do it knowing that they'll be gone in a year.
- 2:19You know what I mean? Like, why does it say all this
- 2:22stuff about the Jews? Well.
- 2:24Just or just in text, right Whereabouts.
- 2:26They'll do it just right. Don't you fucking cut my leg
- 2:28off. Yeah, that's right.
- 2:31Just just do the little line with the half scissors.
- 2:34Where they go? Cut here, but we'll wait and
- 2:37see. It's months away, but.
- 2:39At your shorts line, just get a tattoo of your balls.
- 2:43Oh yeah. Fucking hell.
- 2:45That's a good one. If you do that, there's a good
- 2:48chance your sister won't want it anymore.
- 2:50No, she'll still want it. She doesn't care.
- 2:52She just wants the ashes of my burnt leg.
- 2:54Oh yeah. It's not going to see it.
- 2:55Yeah, yeah, she'll know. So I've got to get Reggie Rabbit
- 3:00tattooed again, but I'm not going to waste money getting
- 3:02tattoos that are going to be cut off anymore.
- 3:06You're not tempted to just get a swastika just just for the for
- 3:10the experience of going into a tattoo fala and them not knowing
- 3:13you're gonna lose the leg and just go on.
- 3:15It's like a Nazi paraphernalia all down the right side.
- 3:17Actually, a lot of the tattoos that I know, if you were to walk
- 3:20in and after that they would go no.
- 3:23A lot of them, not all of them. Yeah, well, all the ones I've
- 3:26spoken to because I'll tell me every night.
- 3:28I can do all about it. He's not a guy.
- 3:30Getting one. The guy who who would do it, I
- 3:33don't talk to him. Very often though but though
- 3:36when I go to get one. I don't have to.
- 3:37I just give him a little nod and he.
- 3:39Knows sometimes people will call up and go and I get one and it's
- 3:43yeah, no one's going to do that. They actually did have one time
- 3:46we show a bit sad that they couldn't do a tattoo on someone.
- 3:49It was a kid who was about 14 or something and he's like, can I
- 3:53get a tattoo? I need something covered up.
- 3:55And they're going, we can't even get your parents.
- 3:58Well, not even parents consent that agents like no, he's like,
- 4:01I've got my parents put a SWAT sticker on me and I want that
- 4:05gone. And they're so fucking.
- 4:07That's one of the times where they probably were seriously
- 4:10considering maybe. Regular rules, yeah.
- 4:12Yeah, because it's not something here he.
- 4:16Parents tattooed a swastika. I don't even want to know the.
- 4:18Yeah. But the problem is though, I'd
- 4:19be thinking just because I'm like this, I'd be thinking this
- 4:23is probably going to be a problem of a bigger sort in
- 4:26future and I probably don't want to be involved.
- 4:28Yes. Stay.
- 4:28Out of that but you feel gonna feel because.
- 4:32Somehow they'd spin it so that you were the baddie, you know,
- 4:36Yes, tattooing a kid rather than the one who put the swastika.
- 4:39Yeah, that family is going to be in court and I'm going to get
- 4:41dragged into it if I. Do this that.
- 4:44Is my name will be associated with them forever?
- 4:46I'd be worried about them not dragging you to court, but
- 4:48dragging you somewhere else. I'll say that.
- 4:51Yeah, yeah. It's.
- 4:55A long way to drag someone it. Is.
- 4:58From Australia anyway. Not if you live in Poland.
- 5:02I didn't think that part through.
- 5:03Let's get away from that. That's.
- 5:07What Hitler said. Oh God, we should.
- 5:10We should really have done our homework on this.
- 5:13Now that I see it all, yeah. Yeah.
- 5:16I I admit that when you stack it all up like this, it looks.
- 5:20Bad. Yeah, on paper this looks bad,
- 5:22doesn't it? Yeah.
- 5:28Can we talk about some Star Wars news?
- 5:31Yeah, because I really want to know about this.
- 5:33Has Ryan Johnson finally admitted that he's not doing his
- 5:36trilogy? Indirectly, indirectly.
- 5:40So he's he was asked about it this week and and so, OK, what's
- 5:44the, what was he asked exactly? He was asked OK an interview
- 5:51with the independent. He was asked why the movies
- 5:53haven't been made yet His his trilogy right.
- 5:55So if you don't know, Ryan Johnson made The Last Jedi it.
- 5:58Was quite 10 years. Yeah, mixed.
- 6:01Yeah, feedback on that? Mixed.
- 6:04Was it mixed opinions? Mixed mixture of bad feedback.
- 6:07Yeah, some people really liked it.
- 6:08Some people really hated it. Kathy Kennedy really liked it.
- 6:11I think people hated it. We hated it.
- 6:15We hated it. But they said at the time, I
- 6:18think before it came out, they said he was, oh, we're going to
- 6:21get him to do a trilogy. It's so good.
- 6:23And then it came out and everyone, yeah, there was a lot
- 6:25of discussion about about it. And well, there was a lot of
- 6:28from Disney and then just Ryan bringing it up every now.
- 6:32And he kept saying, yeah, I'm still doing it, I'm still doing
- 6:34it. So they've asked him why haven't
- 6:36they been made yet and are they still happening?
- 6:38And he said this is a quote. What happened?
- 6:41Knives Out? I mean, I kind of went down a
- 6:43murder mystery rabbit hole. I'm focused on making other
- 6:45stuff. But I mean, I wouldn't rule it
- 6:47out happening down the line. If I get back in the Star Wars
- 6:50universe someday, I'd be the happiest person.
- 6:52So he decided instead of doing a multi, it's.
- 6:55Not happening. $1,000,000 movie, multi billion dollar trilogy
- 7:01that's going to go to movies he decided to do with Netflix
- 7:03movies. I mean, they're better than is.
- 7:09Yeah, I, I, I don't my knives out and that's what we should
- 7:12stick with, Yeah. To.
- 7:14I've got some. I'll stick to that actually.
- 7:16The tone of I mean this is very different.
- 7:19And even if they do ask me back, I might not even say yes.
- 7:22I'll be very excited, I'll be very honoured if that happens,
- 7:26like, OK, so it's not happening. So yeah, to me, that's an
- 7:28official. Yeah, it's definitely because
- 7:30they're not going to ask him back.
- 7:32There's no not a chance in hell. But he had.
- 7:35That documentary, the director in Star Wars and all this, they
- 7:38had pegged him as just the one who was going to carry it
- 7:41forward. And just Butch.
- 7:44James. Gunn meant I remember the.
- 7:46Gun of Star Wars. Yeah, I remember sitting in the
- 7:49theatre because I, and I'll say to this day, I loved The Force
- 7:52Awakens. I think the Force.
- 7:54Awakens, it was back to Star Wars.
- 7:56Excellent. It is everything I loved about
- 7:58Star Wars. Is it a soft reboot?
- 8:00Yes. Does it make raise some
- 8:02questions? Yes.
- 8:03But we were going to have two more movies to answer those
- 8:05questions, right? And then I remember sitting in
- 8:08the theatre for fucking. What's this called the last?
- 8:11Jedi. Jedi.
- 8:12Yeah, And thinking this, this isn't good.
- 8:16This is really, really ungood. It's.
- 8:18Not the same as the other movie. Yeah.
- 8:21Like it's just it's. Too different.
- 8:23Why this? With Luke Skywalker, they sort
- 8:26of turned him from being like, I understand, like we need to get
- 8:29away from. I thought they were going to
- 8:30make him more of like a their problem is not like Dark, where
- 8:33yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, get away from this.
- 8:35There's no pure and no, he cried.
- 8:39And it wasn't burnt. It wasn't what they thought we
- 8:42hated about it because everyone goes, oh, you hate that you had
- 8:45a female general? No.
- 8:46Fucking annoys me but there's a female general?
- 8:49Fucking no. They say that.
- 8:52Yeah, you know what? There was an Asian woman.
- 8:55That's what you hated, wasn't it?
- 8:56Again, no. Nobody cares about that.
- 9:00No. Poorly written characters?
- 9:04So what? I mean, it's not that nobody
- 9:06cares about that that's the problem.
- 9:08Oh yeah, Is that there were idiots who cared about it.
- 9:11Sure. But yeah, but there's, there's
- 9:13people that there's people that aren't watching Doctor Who now
- 9:15because he's black. Like, you know what I mean?
- 9:17It's like, no, I'm not watching it because it's not very good
- 9:20anymore. Do you think some of them have
- 9:22come back from when they went to a woman?
- 9:24They dropped off, but now they're it's back to a man.
- 9:26Maybe they've come back. Yeah, maybe drop off because
- 9:29he's black. He's also.
- 9:30Gay. Yeah.
- 9:31But does it make it better or worse?
- 9:33Yeah. Doesn't.
- 9:35Make it. I don't know if the doctor is
- 9:37gay or whether just the actor is gay, but.
- 9:41I know I saw a clip of it and it looked fun and I went I'm still
- 9:44not going to watch it. Yeah, that's pretty much how I
- 9:48feel about Doctor Who at this point, too.
- 9:51Speaking of Ryan Johnson, I watched a Ryan Johnson thing
- 9:56this week because. Yeah, because I don't mind
- 9:59Knives Out and the other one Knives Out and.
- 10:03Glass Onion. Glass Onion, I thought they were
- 10:05OK and if they do another one, which I assume they are, I'll,
- 10:07I'll watch that too. On Netflix for free, right.
- 10:10I'm not going to the cinema to watch it, but you know.
- 10:12That's the trilogy. Next trilogy he should make.
- 10:15Daniel Craig, Yeah. So I was, yeah, Daniel Craig's
- 10:18excellent. And they have fucking tons of
- 10:20stars, you know, like it's just, it's a who's who they're.
- 10:22Good, yeah. So they're fine.
- 10:24So he's also doing a murder mystery series called Poker
- 10:30Face. Oh, that show has been amazing
- 10:33about it. So I decided to watch it.
- 10:36You've seen it too. So I put on Tasha.
- 10:39Olivio. You know, whatever her name is.
- 10:41Yeah, I put on one episode, and right at the start there was
- 10:45this plot hole. And I was like, is no one going
- 10:48to address this plot hole? And then it occurred to me, I'm
- 10:51like, if this plot hole ends up being the twist of this episode
- 10:55and the answer to the mystery, I'm not watching any more after
- 10:59this. And sure enough, by the end of
- 11:02the episode, they're like, wait a minute.
- 11:03I'm like, oh come on, come on. So I'm out.
- 11:07I'm not 100%. Out continue watching it's it's
- 11:10it's just standalone episodes. It's just a.
- 11:13Would you say you're subverted but not in a good way?
- 11:17Yeah, that's right. Disappointing way.
- 11:18I think what he did was set that up to go in a certain direction,
- 11:23a good direction, and then subverted that to go in a shit
- 11:26direction instead. Luke, if you are telling me
- 11:29right now, if you look me in the eye and tell me that I should
- 11:32keep watching it, I will. You should keep watching it.
- 11:34I know season 3 should come out and I'm about to get standing in
- 11:36so I can start watching it. Right, OK.
- 11:40I I enjoyed it, it's just it's a nice easy.
- 11:42Watch it's It was definitely an easy watch, except that I was
- 11:46going Why isn't anyone talking about the thing?
- 11:48The audience shouldn't notice things the characters haven't
- 11:51noticed, right? If I'm there noticing, the
- 11:55detectives there should notice it.
- 11:59It gets better, I think. OK, And it's just insane.
- 12:03You've murder mystery every week.
- 12:05Go with it. That I like.
- 12:07I'm into that. I'm into that format for sure,
- 12:10which is what I was hoping for. OK.
- 12:11So it's one of those. One of those she notices things
- 12:13that other people don't, she. Oh, OK.
- 12:16The plot mat is the reason it's called Poker Face is because she
- 12:19can tell when someone's lying like so.
- 12:21Yeah, OK. That's that's the conceit,
- 12:23right? Is that a?
- 12:24Superpower. Or just she Just no, she just
- 12:26can. She's just really good.
- 12:27She works. That's really good.
- 12:28That's why she used to count cards.
- 12:30And yeah. Like someone will just say
- 12:31something and it'll be hold on what?
- 12:33And then that would lead her down, and that's all it is.
- 12:37It was an interesting premise. I'm not sure she's got the
- 12:40charisma to lead a whole show. We'll see.
- 12:44We'll see. I enjoy her.
- 12:48I watched something. I don't get her though.
- 12:49Oh. You'll never get her, Luke.
- 12:52No, no, not like that. She's very.
- 12:54Famous at this point. I don't know, she's just very
- 12:59different from the characters to sometimes plays and I can't
- 13:02place what she how she would really be she actually.
- 13:06Is. Person, Yeah.
- 13:07It's the girl who tells everyone that that guy has a big Dick in
- 13:13the 1st. You will know her from one of
- 13:16your favorite movies 1. Of my favorite.
- 13:19In the first American Pie movie, but I hope just to finish that.
- 13:23What is she in? Something else first.
- 13:28That's all I really know. I don't need old cast.
- 13:30And crew. I just need her.
- 13:31What am I doing? I don't know how to use the
- 13:32Internet. She's also on that show where
- 13:34she keeps coming back from the dead.
- 13:36Right, that was. OK, yeah, and that's her all.
- 13:38Right, all right. She was on the second season
- 13:42that I couldn't get into it because it got to be different,
- 13:45OK. Yeah, I think I only I dropped
- 13:47off for the first season 2. The Simpsons.
- 13:51Oh no, I thought was in one of your I forget the show you like.
- 13:56Not hackers, the other one you watch.
- 13:58Oh she is in Glass Onion. I didn't know that.
- 14:00Hackers. The other one that makes.
- 14:01Sense the other. One you watch all the time, that
- 14:03you watch once a year, The one that it wouldn't make today can.
- 14:11You. Please you know what I want to.
- 14:12Do the 1 is. Going to be like, oh you mean
- 14:16Love Thy neighbor, The old British comedy that.
- 14:18Was used to watch the racist guy.
- 14:24No, I can't remember. It might, might not be that one.
- 14:28What do I watch every year? It was when they're running
- 14:31around, they're trying to take pictures.
- 14:32To do not take pictures. Oh no, that's not what I was
- 14:35going to say. They're trying to trick some guy
- 14:37into being gay to take pictures of him to.
- 14:41I can't remember, Maybe I've made this up, maybe trick
- 14:45someone? Into being gay.
- 14:48They're trying to get someone really drunk so they could take
- 14:50pictures of him to put it in a different.
- 14:52Do you mean fan Wilder? Maybe you've made this up.
- 14:56I don't know. No, no, no.
- 14:57I'm. Sure, that's a movie.
- 14:59No, if that can't remember it from that then stop that.
- 15:03I I do, I do love those. I mean, I don't love.
- 15:05Them and it may not be heard I'm thinking of.
- 15:07Problematic movies from the 80s like Revenge of the Nerds where?
- 15:11Oh, yeah, like pure rape someone.
- 15:14But I I'd love to remake them ex and and change nothing except
- 15:18for the dialogue and have them admit that it's rape.
- 15:21Do you know what I mean? Like, imagine they were like,
- 15:22oh, how are we going to see that girl naked?
- 15:25We could rape her, you know, have you, have you tried rape?
- 15:29Because that's essentially what they're doing.
- 15:31Like, might be you could dress up like a boyfriend.
- 15:33And if it was dark, she wouldn't know it was you.
- 15:35It's like, yeah. That's just rape it late I mean.
- 15:38One of them is like, isn't that legal?
- 15:39They're like, don't worry about. That.
- 15:41Like Arthur, she. Just wanted to say 2025.
- 15:45She goes, she goes, that was amazing, Then finds out it's
- 15:47like him and he just goes, well, maybe have you found someone who
- 15:50actually respects you? And no, that's not what that is.
- 15:54Yeah. What's that one that you told me
- 15:56to watch, Luke? That is an excellent movie with
- 15:59Bill Murray Porky. Is that the?
- 16:01The no, no, the Porky's He's a cave counsellor.
- 16:04Meatballs, meatballs, meatballs. That it's such a.
- 16:07Great movie, except for the scene where he viciously raped
- 16:11somebody. She's actually.
- 16:15Just comedy for comedy. For comedy, I.
- 16:18Guess, I guess. She's actually screaming.
- 16:22Yeah. Biting him over the mouth.
- 16:24Yeah, and just fucks her comedy. Very different time.
- 16:31Next thing he mentors this little boy in like a really
- 16:34touching way. So out of place the whole.
- 16:38Scene where that that human hurt that doesn't need to be in the
- 16:41movie. At all?
- 16:42No. Adds no value?
- 16:44No. No.
- 16:48Look, I watched something that people, a lot of people told me
- 16:51to watch this because I am. Currently us including us I'm.
- 16:55Currently in jury duty here in the state of Rhode Island.
- 16:58So everybody told me to watch the show.
- 17:04Well, the first they asked me, have you seen that show?
- 17:06Jury duty? And I was like, oh, I know what?
- 17:08It is not the movie Jury Duty starring.
- 17:10Starring Paul. Sure, sure.
- 17:11When I said, I said to Jenna, we need to watch jury duty.
- 17:14And she was like, all right. And I said.
- 17:17I said, oh, not the Paulie Shore movie because I knew we're we're
- 17:21Pauly Shore fans in this house. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:24I'll watch Encino man any day. Encino man's good biodome is.
- 17:28Biodome also and there's a some rape in that as well.
- 17:32Yeah, what's the most rape in Biodome?
- 17:34I don't remember it. I'm not surprised though.
- 17:37No, I don't remember though. Yeah.
- 17:41But I watched I so I watched I've watched 2 episodes so far
- 17:44of that the jury duty show. So any listeners who don't know
- 17:47the premise of this show, it's a.
- 17:49It's. Filmed as if it's a documentary
- 17:52about jury duty, except they tell you at the beginning, but
- 17:56the Joe. Schmoe show from many years ago.
- 17:58I don't. Know I don't know that the Joe.
- 18:01Schmoe Show was one of the first ones to have the premise where
- 18:03like everyone's, you know, except for okay, this guy.
- 18:08So it's. It's, it's filmed as if it's a
- 18:10documentary. This guy, this, this one guy,
- 18:11Ronald, who thinks it's a documentary about jury duty.
- 18:14But in reality, this whole thing is all actors except him.
- 18:17He's the only person who doesn't isn't an actor in this, but they
- 18:22just play out this insane courtroom situation that he's
- 18:28thinks he's in the jury and it's fucking hilarious.
- 18:33Have you watched it all yet? Man, I've only watched 2.
- 18:35Episodes, I mean, and I've got to say I don't how did James
- 18:38master not get an Academy Award for this?
- 18:40He's if this. Really.
- 18:42Is filmed as I've described, where you get one take one shot,
- 18:47and if it is, this guy thinks it's real.
- 18:49The last. Episode Matt So they actually
- 18:52reveal in the second to last episode, and then the last
- 18:55episode is a deconstruction of how they did it all really.
- 19:00And the actors? Are all like every single wacky
- 19:03thing we did, we said to each other.
- 19:05Today is the day he's going to guess it because he this is way
- 19:08too over the top. Even some of the characters.
- 19:10That were meant to be sort of weird.
- 19:11And he was meant to be, like, outcast.
- 19:13He was just such a nice guy. He became friends with them.
- 19:16Yeah. They're like you.
- 19:18Yeah, that's right. There's that.
- 19:20That sequence. So this is just a random guy.
- 19:22The funniest stuff is. Yet to come they intentionally.
- 19:25Leave him, I think to the side so that he's not, he doesn't
- 19:28interact with him that much. The only conversation they have
- 19:30is at one point the guy walks past him and goes, oh, I'm just
- 19:33going to go to the bathroom and rub one out.
- 19:35And then the guy and then he, he goes to him.
- 19:37Do it now while you've got time. And then like that's the only
- 19:40conversation they have. But then later, like shortly
- 19:43after that, he fucking pulls a filing.
- 19:45Cabinet over onto. Himself in this.
- 19:47Ridiculous accident. I forgot that's how what
- 19:51happened. And then and.
- 19:52Then. They, there's this fucking
- 19:54sequence where all the jurors are there being interviewed with
- 19:56this documentary. And then we'll start telling
- 19:58these fucking stories about he was, he got back from from
- 20:03Vietnam and went off to Nepal to do work with children.
- 20:06And they've all got stories. About what amazing guys this guy
- 20:09Ronald's like. And then they all.
- 20:13Like, Oh yeah, he made me this origami crane and they all got
- 20:17one. Except Ronald.
- 20:21So fucking funny. I think the funniest.
- 20:23Thing it's going to come up and I'm not going to ruin it for
- 20:25you, but there is a sex scene that I think is the funniest
- 20:29thing in the world. It's not.
- 20:30Only the funniest thing in this show.
- 20:32It might be the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life, yes.
- 20:35OK. I got to keep watching.
- 20:37It's unbelievable to me. I don't know how they keep a
- 20:39straight face, even just like simple things.
- 20:41This is a sequence where I I couldn't know, is this planned?
- 20:45Maybe, Maybe they'll explain this.
- 20:47The bailiff comes to the hotel room and the weird guy next door
- 20:52has opened the doors between the rooms.
- 20:54He's all we got. We got adjoining rooms.
- 20:56We could leave the doors open or whatever.
- 20:58And he's being weird. And the bailiff comes in and she
- 21:00goes, all good, you're both here.
- 21:01And she starts talking. The other guy walks back into
- 21:03his room and then comes around outside.
- 21:06He's standing behind her and she's yelling.
- 21:09At the roots room and I'm like how?
- 21:13How is nobody? Laughing at this, he's I think
- 21:15I. Think it's a very hard thing to
- 21:17do because silly. You have to get.
- 21:18Actors that aren't known, yeah, that.
- 21:21To do that has. To be a gamble, it's like I'm
- 21:24more. Often amazed at, you know,
- 21:26people like Sasha Baron Cohen, whether you like him or not, to
- 21:29be able to do that and keep a straight face amazes me.
- 21:32I couldn't do. It you guys know that I'll
- 21:34fucking laugh. Yeah, every take, but I thought,
- 21:37I think. About I think about we've we've
- 21:38made films and stuff before and then you can see it or you watch
- 21:41the bloopers on Always sunny or and like the Ricky Chavez, this
- 21:45atrocious yes, he'd never. Be imagine him trying to.
- 21:47Do this like. It's very hard, yeah.
- 21:51Like, not laugh. Yeah, if anyone.
- 21:53Could I'll make it work? And you?
- 21:55Just like too well known. Just that bit where?
- 21:57He. Sits there when he first comes
- 21:59in and presumably the guy wasn't noticing that it's James Marston
- 22:03at first, right? So he's then thinking, I've got
- 22:05to get this guy's attention and he goes, the guy looks over and
- 22:08fucking do with socks that say like new bounce or something,
- 22:10and James Marston goes, I thought that guy's socks.
- 22:13I said Sonic and I'm in that Sonic movie.
- 22:18Fuck off mate. Yeah, no, but then his.
- 22:22Response is like, oh, that wasn't very, very good and then.
- 22:27And he's like, his face. He's like, yeah.
- 22:30Yeah, he. Goes.
- 22:31My favorite? Reaction was like, he's like,
- 22:33oh, yeah, I know, yeah, I recognize you.
- 22:34You're in that. And he goes, yeah, yeah, you
- 22:36know, X-Men, Westworld. And he goes, oh, you're in
- 22:38Westworld. And he goes, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 22:40yeah, yeah. Funny, yeah.
- 22:46Yeah. I have.
- 22:47Mad. Respect for James Martin I
- 22:49didn't have before. Yeah.
- 22:51And. I actually liked him already but
- 22:54that made me like him heaps more.
- 22:55He's great. Like I said, he.
- 22:57Says he acts as I'm like, Oh my God, how are you doing this?
- 22:59You know, please. Keep watching, he's back.
- 23:02He's back in fucking Doctor Doom, right?
- 23:05He's masters. Oh, he is probably.
- 23:07Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think he's Cyclops back.
- 23:10Yeah, that'd be good. Fucking yeah, but to me it's.
- 23:14Just. Lois Lane's.
- 23:17Kids, Dad, sorry. I'm sorry, cyclops.
- 23:20I'm not a fan of cyclops though. But you're not meant.
- 23:23To be because he's the. Straight.
- 23:25He's the straight laced one. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:27He's not fun. He wants to play by the rules.
- 23:30He'd be fighting with Iron Man and stuff in Civil War.
- 23:34He's a loose cannon. Literally.
- 23:38Yeah, he he was. Interested in everybody.
- 23:42Everybody in. The fucking universe.
- 23:44Yeah, everyone who told you. That now before you go to
- 23:46you've. Got to watch this show so
- 23:48everyone. So when this show came out, I
- 23:50fucking I benched this in a weekend try.
- 23:52I couldn't, I couldn't stop so good and I hate prank shows and
- 23:57I hate same like. Jim, we put this on.
- 24:00Jenna was like, you're not going to like this.
- 24:01And I was like, let's wait and see.
- 24:03Here's the thing. Was he was not mean for the.
- 24:05Joke that's. Right, it's not me they've.
- 24:07They've done it right. They've done it the right way
- 24:10around. Yeah, it's stuff everyone.
- 24:12Else is. Stupid.
- 24:13Yes, He's the straight man. He's just reacting.
- 24:15To things because I hate those. Ones where they go out and do
- 24:18that stuff and annoy people and that's not fun, but this is the
- 24:22other one to that. There's one on the Internet and
- 24:24I can't remember what it is that's the same and he always
- 24:27just makes himself look stupid to catch other people's
- 24:29reactions. Like he goes into libraries and
- 24:32watches loud porn and has his headphones on but not plugged
- 24:36in. Do you know what I mean?
- 24:37And so everyone's looking over at him.
- 24:39I don't that would. Annoy me, yeah.
- 24:40That would annoy me, but he's he's.
- 24:42Looks silly but anyway. But anyway, when this was over,
- 24:45everyone said this was so good, but you're never going to be
- 24:49able to do it again because people know the the gimmick
- 24:52thing now and they've. Said.
- 24:54Well, we've already filmed another one, so season 2 just
- 24:58has to be edited because I wondered.
- 25:00If they had to do a thing where you'd have like 10 of this going
- 25:03on at the same time just to try and get one that worked, because
- 25:06I know they've done things like that before too, like in the, in
- 25:09the. The final episode when they're
- 25:10deconstructing, it's basically all of them going.
- 25:13We knew it'd be pretty good, but we had no idea it would be this
- 25:17good. Yeah.
- 25:18Like, I think that was just funny even.
- 25:19Though they, as they're saying, they've done another one, I
- 25:22think the next one may work, but they're not going to be able to
- 25:24do another one for years because yeah, I have a.
- 25:28Feeling what was that? And it's totally different.
- 25:30But what was that mockumentary about The Who drew all the Dicks
- 25:34it's at on the cars at school? Because that I know what you.
- 25:38Mean I don't think I. Ever watched it?
- 25:40But I know what you mean. It was.
- 25:42So funny because it took itself so seriously.
- 25:47As as a as. A Netflix crime doco series,
- 25:51except it was who drew the Dicks.
- 25:53But then they did, they did a sequel, and it was somebody
- 25:57poisoned in the entire school and everyone got diarrhea.
- 25:59And it's like, that's way less funny.
- 26:01And if you don't know why that's less funny, then that's why this
- 26:04is not as funny. Yeah.
- 26:06But now I think if they do another one after they do the
- 26:10second one, so people start to know what's happening and people
- 26:14cotton onto it. So you're going to leave time
- 26:16between these for people to forget about because like you
- 26:18guys don't remember the Joe Schmo show, which was probably
- 26:21the first one to do that and there was a sequel to that as
- 26:23well. And right, Right.
- 26:25But it's been like 10-15 years between that.
- 26:28So I'm often. Amazed Sasha Baron Cohen can
- 26:30still do things. I think he has trouble now.
- 26:32There was a period there where I was just like, how do people?
- 26:35If he walked into a room, I'd be like, that's Sasha Baron Cohen.
- 26:40I think he. Was trying to.
- 26:40Prank if you look at. Especially if things got weird.
- 26:43I'd be like, I know who you are. Yeah, yeah, it's.
- 26:46Really stuff he's been. Doing the PB's been going to
- 26:48antagonize. Yeah, I know they're not his
- 26:50audience. Yeah, I think that's.
- 26:52Yeah, that's the thing too. I.
- 26:53Know I'm not so I don't like prank stuff either, but I never
- 26:56disliked Sacha Baron Cohen's stuff because I think the people
- 27:00he's. He's.
- 27:02Encouraging getting to admit. People that they're racist and
- 27:05stuff. Yeah, that's the thing.
- 27:07I guess I'm OK with people fighting themselves as racist.
- 27:10I didn't mind. Ali G and stuff.
- 27:13But then when he went out and did his and just and I was.
- 27:17I don't know, I just found boy pretty funny because he, like I
- 27:20said, he's this bumbling racist idiot and he just gets other
- 27:23people to admit that they're racist too.
- 27:26Like, yeah, basically that was the premise.
- 27:29Yeah, actually I'll be. I haven't.
- 27:31Actually seen them, but I just know I won't like that.
- 27:32Oh, no, no, no. They're.
- 27:34Good, but you should you should watch the Borat movie or even
- 27:37that. What was that character?
- 27:38The there was one where he's he's a gay Swede, Bruno, and
- 27:45right, yeah, he's so he's on the beat.
- 27:46But this is again, it's before the movie.
- 27:47He's on the beach and there's this these American fuck wits,
- 27:51right? And he's going with you on a
- 27:53talk to the camera and they're like, that's Borat, but he's
- 27:56doing for the camera and they're like fucking showing their
- 27:59muscles and stuff. He's like, yes, my my audience
- 28:01would love this. And what about your backsides?
- 28:04And then they like fucking, they just going nuts showing off
- 28:08their bodies and he's like, OK, now say hello gay TV Sweden and
- 28:12they're like. Yeah.
- 28:17But see if that like they must know only guys like those
- 28:20muscles, yeah. Talk about that.
- 28:24Yeah, well, actually. There's some there's some news,
- 28:27right? So Luke, I don't know if you
- 28:29know about the Perth Bears. Do you know about the Perth
- 28:32Bears? Is that the?
- 28:33New NRL team that's going to be coming in in a few years.
- 28:36It's both. The new.
- 28:37NRL team fortunately by accident.
- 28:39It's both the. New NRL team and also a gay club
- 28:42in Perth that when they announced that there was going
- 28:46to be a, that's already existed, it was always there called Perth
- 28:49Bears, right? And then Perth announced that
- 28:52they were going to have a footy team called Bears.
- 28:54Record attendance at this gay club.
- 28:58Of footy fans. Who didn't know it was a gay
- 29:01club? That's really I.
- 29:04Find that amusing. Like I've been to gay clubs.
- 29:07I find them in fun, yeah. Yes, and actually.
- 29:10Football fans probably would not find them.
- 29:12Yeah, fun. And I remember Matt.
- 29:14You, me and Gordo went to a not a gay club, but a gay bar one
- 29:19night. And it took us a long time
- 29:21before we realized we were in a gay bar.
- 29:23Do you know what I mean? Like we would.
- 29:25Yeah. I know hardly any chicks here,
- 29:28which is nice. We could just talk to blokes,
- 29:30you know. Yeah.
- 29:31Yeah. No pressure.
- 29:32And then I do not try to impress.
- 29:33Anybody. Yeah.
- 29:36I have picked up at gay bars before which is OK.
- 29:40Picked up women or. Women.
- 29:42Yes, I know somebody who? I won't say who it is because I
- 29:45don't you, but when they they accidentally went to a gay bar
- 29:49once with some friends and made a met somebody didn't had no
- 29:54fucking idea the con like the context.
- 29:56They'd accidentally walked into having a great old time with
- 29:59this person for like a couple of hours or whatever, and then when
- 30:02the person tried to kiss them, realized, you know, like it was.
- 30:07Like in Jaws when the when? The camera does that thing.
- 30:11Went back. Through the.
- 30:12Night in the head. And then they're like.
- 30:15I'm on a date, yeah. And then I.
- 30:22I mean to. The.
- 30:23Credits just said oh sorry. There's been a huge
- 30:26misunderstanding, no? Offense, I wish I was young
- 30:28again. I could just make out with dudes
- 30:31and have it not matter. Make out with dudes.
- 30:33Left and right now it's just. Yeah.
- 30:37Yeah. I know something that happened
- 30:38to as well back home, back in the old neighborhood, not at a
- 30:42club but at a party and same thing.
- 30:46It's like when you replay it back because the guys like it
- 30:49seems so. Obvious.
- 30:50Yeah, they're. Really getting along and but
- 30:51then the guy and again, I won't say who it is, but my friend,
- 30:55you you guys know him, but was was thinking like, fuck, man,
- 30:58this guy's I'm really clicking with this guy.
- 31:00Yeah, I mean, and then just what he was thinking about.
- 31:02Yeah, yeah, yeah. But then, maybe then the time to
- 31:05consider. Then the guy.
- 31:06Said the guy said to him is something happening here and and
- 31:11he said there's definitely something.
- 31:16So I think it's because I knew what's happening and then if I
- 31:19did click, I go like, sorry, not interested.
- 31:21But I think a lot of times when women go there, that's all
- 31:25because they're not hitting on them.
- 31:28Which is where? I.
- 31:30Have a conversation. I feel bad for the.
- 31:31Other people involved in these stories though, because it's
- 31:34like. Yeah.
- 31:35For for us it's funny and hilarious, but for them it's
- 31:38probably a fucking horrible, embarrassing experience.
- 31:40I already can just. Go with it.
- 31:42I would be embarrassed. If that happens, even with a
- 31:45woman that these are accused like you like it would.
- 31:48Just. I don't know.
- 31:50That's not what you say that, but I'm not.
- 31:51Sure. Would there ever be a situation
- 31:53where you were, like, out, just you met up with a woman and, you
- 31:56know, you say I'm really feeling there's something between us
- 31:58here. Is there feeling between US?
- 31:59And she was like, yeah, yeah. And that would be misunderstood
- 32:02like. Would that happen?
- 32:05Yeah. Exactly mate.
- 32:06I get embarrassed when a waitress says enjoy your meal
- 32:08and I say yeah you too, you like.
- 32:13But I just mean that. I can never come.
- 32:14Back to this restaurant, maybe it's different.
- 32:16These days, but like, especially when we were young, the the, the
- 32:20you have to do a bit of mental legwork before you would even
- 32:24consider like, well, this is me and another guy.
- 32:27Like, yeah, it's not. Why would it's not?
- 32:29Yeah, for that person. It's like on the table already,
- 32:32but for for for you. So you haven't even considered
- 32:35that that could be what this is, because for example.
- 32:38Matt, I remember the first time you and I worked out that we
- 32:40both loved Monkey Island, right? Sure.
- 32:42And we were like, I remember at one point somebody said like, it
- 32:46was Gordon who I knew and you knew, but I didn't know you that
- 32:50well yet. And he had that tiny little
- 32:52ponytail for a while. Oh yeah.
- 32:54And, and I remember I said he looks like guy burst 3 point and
- 32:58you're like, oh, fucking do you like Monkey Island?
- 33:00And then it was like, oh, fucking that's, that's it,
- 33:02that's it. New best friend.
- 33:03That's it. And we started making a.
- 33:05Fucking yeah, that's. It and then I was like, is
- 33:06something happening here? Yeah.
- 33:11But you just don't. But one.
- 33:13Of them. Here's the thing, in all of
- 33:14these instances, one person was gay, right?
- 33:17So one person did know they were hitting on someone.
- 33:20So it's like when you were talking to a woman and she's
- 33:22saying whatever she's saying and you're like, I fucking agree
- 33:26with that. I fucking.
- 33:27Agree with that. I agree with all this.
- 33:29I also like that. Sure, yeah.
- 33:34You know, yeah, I want to have. I want to.
- 33:36Have tons of kids too. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:38Yeah, I just want to have 10 feminists.
- 33:40That's what I want as kids. Yeah, actually you would.
- 33:43These people probably had better conversations with the gay
- 33:46people, but that's what I. Mean, yeah, I agree.
- 33:49I agree. Nothing funny about Meatballs
- 33:51the movie. Nothing funny about it.
- 33:53Yeah, that's right. Yeah.
- 33:56But yeah. Yeah, I think people may.
- 33:58Drop the gun when they've just heard bears?
- 34:01Yes, that's very funny. Let's.
- 34:03Head in. I love it though it.
- 34:05Just made. They were so excited to finally
- 34:07get a team. It's the Bears.
- 34:09I'm Googling it. There's already a club.
- 34:11Club. Fuck yeah, let's go.
- 34:12We're going tonight. And all the boys and all the
- 34:15boys, they haven't had a rugby. League team in like 20 years or
- 34:18something, or maybe even longer I mean.
- 34:21No, I almost went to. Ken's Karate Club, if you
- 34:23recall. So yes.
- 34:25Because I was looking. For a karate place near my work.
- 34:27Do you recall what that is, Dan? I don't, but I I recognize the
- 34:32story. You're just lucky it was.
- 34:34Closed. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:36I had been for quite a while. I think it was more of an
- 34:38historic icon. So I was working in Alexandria
- 34:43and I wanted to go to, I just want to do karate.
- 34:46I got, you know, as you do, you get, yeah, when you're a guy.
- 34:49I do karate now. Did I tell you guys I've been to
- 34:51three classes? Yeah, at some point I thought.
- 34:54I would someone who might do karate.
- 34:56I'm not, but I thought maybe I would be, so I'm looking at it
- 34:59if that's still. Open I just put.
- 35:03It might have been a real. Karate class.
- 35:04It might have been a lot of. Things, yeah, pulled up Google
- 35:09Maps, I think at the time put in karate club or karate, the word
- 35:14karate. Saw that nearby there was a
- 35:16place called Ken's Karate Club and I was like, I'll get to
- 35:18that. What the karate?
- 35:19Club, I'm sure. It was.
- 35:22So I'll go check it out and then I don't know what I'd like,
- 35:28literally planned to do it on the way home to go by and check
- 35:30it out, but. Then something I guess.
- 35:32Maybe I was like, I should check out reviews or something.
- 35:34Maybe because I, you know, there's all different kinds of
- 35:36karate. I went doing like this rabbit
- 35:38hole of different kinds and I was like, oh, what kind of
- 35:39karate is this place? Looked it up a bit, just
- 35:42slightly more than that, and realized.
- 35:45Look, Ken's Karate page is a. Place So it was illegal to be
- 35:51gay in Australia until the 70s or 80s?
- 35:53Yep, Ken's Karate club was a the karate club where it was
- 35:59basically a gay club and the karate part was just to explain
- 36:04the mats on the why. And also you could go like, oh,
- 36:08where are you off to tonight, honey?
- 36:10I'm just going down to karate club.
- 36:11Going to karate club. Yeah.
- 36:13So that's and obviously it was not still operational.
- 36:16It was just a like a historic icon on the map and I had just.
- 36:22Just seen karate club, Yeah. I'll go check it out.
- 36:23Yeah, so I, I guess I can understand how as a Perth Bears
- 36:28fan, you might think, oh, they've got a club.
- 36:30Sounds good. Like Panthers.
- 36:32Well, if that's the thing, like every NRL club does have a club
- 36:37like that sell. I mean, so I'm a member of just
- 36:40NRL club officials. If we have an NRL team here, the
- 36:43Hawks. We're just not in the. 8th
- 36:45grade, right? So you you're not on the telly,
- 36:47but we still have a team. We still have a club.
- 36:50Yep. Maybe they should just embrace.
- 36:51This and they could become. I wonder how long it will take
- 36:55to. Figure it out if you're going to
- 36:56go with the name. Bears, you might.
- 36:58Well, you should maybe just embrace it, but that's what I
- 37:00mean. Imagine the kind of guys that
- 37:02went to this. They probably do fit in at a
- 37:05club with bears. That's what's so beautiful and
- 37:10perfect about this story. The Bears bitch.
- 37:12Great. Relationships that have started
- 37:14because of this. But hold on, there was.
- 37:16Already there used to be an NRL team called the Bears.
- 37:19Yeah, back in the City. Bears.
- 37:22Yeah, that's right. Can you reuse somebody's?
- 37:26Of course he's a rector. Mascot.
- 37:27Yeah, like if St. George closed down.
- 37:29I can just fuck it. The Dragons.
- 37:31I'm having it, yeah. Why not?
- 37:34It's not in the team anymore. Why isn't there a team?
- 37:37That North Sydney bears. When?
- 37:39Because remember when I went like Perth did have a band club
- 37:43ages ago? It was because remember Super
- 37:45League and there was 2 rival teams.
- 37:48I kind of remember that. Yeah.
- 37:49And then they. There was the rival team, which
- 37:51is where they placed some money and then they some teams go
- 37:54over. To the Super League like from
- 37:56the normal league but and but then when the Super League
- 37:58closed down they just disappeared some.
- 38:01Disappeared some, came back OK all.
- 38:04Right and. It was Super League that made
- 38:05it, that the players made money again.
- 38:07Because I, I still remember growing up when I used to watch
- 38:10football and television, You go, this person plays for this team,
- 38:14this position and they're a car. They do.
- 38:16For a job, they're a. Butcher a Carpenter or Yeah,
- 38:18Yeah, because they weren't making money.
- 38:21Guy played for. Parramatta eels and lived across
- 38:23the Rd. from my grandparents like they're right.
- 38:27Yeah, until the Super League came in and went there.
- 38:29Not a mansion, but. Back into the fibro.
- 38:31House money again, Yeah. Right, funny and.
- 38:35Not while some of them do back a lot of money, a lot of them
- 38:39don't, yeah. They have a noise don't make
- 38:43well fucking I don't make a lot of money moving.
- 38:45It's not like, yeah, that's what I mean, like.
- 38:46Yeah, I'm OK with them not making millions of dollars.
- 38:48Yeah, but also if you look at. Their their lifetime and their
- 38:51career as well. It's not like.
- 38:53Oh, sure, like. Yes, you might.
- 38:54Have a few players that are making like $500,000 a year.
- 38:57They make that for three years, Yeah, Because they're going to
- 39:01like build up 10 years to get to that point again.
- 39:03And then after. That's really my problem, the
- 39:05limbs. Fall off, I reckon I'd still be.
- 39:08Playing if I didn't have cancer. Yeah, I could have played.
- 39:13If we could, the bunnies. Well, I mean you.
- 39:17Had we would have had a better chance playing for Penrith in
- 39:19that we were from Penrith actually, I would have had a
- 39:20better. Chance playing for Parramatta?
- 39:23Oh yeah. When I grew up, when.
- 39:24I was playing rugby league, that team.
- 39:26No, when I was. Playing I I was being.
- 39:30I hear they're pretty. Shit, you may still have a
- 39:31chance, Henry. They're a very good team.
- 39:34I wasn't. Quite scouted for South but I
- 39:36was those talks for souths that I could start going into the
- 39:39feeder probably just hearing. About right now that you were.
- 39:42Scouting the game? Yeah.
- 39:43What? Is this?
- 39:44What is this? Story when I was playing.
- 39:46Rugby league and when I won my grand final I used to play
- 39:50single handedly. Yeah, one it.
- 39:51Myself, I used to play with people who actually did go on to
- 39:54make NRL careers and we had coaches that were playing in the
- 39:58NRL and stuff like I did have a chance there was a girl in.
- 40:01Our school named Lauren, who was a cheerleader in the NFL, so
- 40:07there was that. Not the NFL, the NRL.
- 40:10But no, I used to play. With Eric Grove junior and Eric
- 40:12Grove senior, he was one of the coaches and he used to play.
- 40:14They both were Parramatta players and very.
- 40:20Could have been me, you could. Have been on the.
- 40:21Footy Show getting cancelled instead of this show.
- 40:24Oh yeah. You would so be cancelled.
- 40:26You could be our show. That's.
- 40:27Even more overtly racist than we are.
- 40:29Yeah, because they we. We different because you would
- 40:32have said. Guys, I just want you to know
- 40:35that I think blackface is OK. Yeah.
- 40:37And then we were like 100% fine with.
- 40:39Mahatma Gandhi would have been. Me, yeah.
- 40:43Mahatma Coat. Mahatma Coat.
- 40:45Like a tiger. Any.
- 40:47Any. Non Australian listeners, there
- 40:49was no idea. There was a television.
- 40:51Show was called the Footy Show. It was like AAAI.
- 40:55Guess what you call it? Like a variety show.
- 40:57Variety. Show, yeah, but I.
- 40:58Mean you didn't have to watch football to watch no no no, no
- 41:02but it. Was hosted by Football by X4
- 41:04former X4 players. Yeah, and they would do
- 41:05sketches. And stuff and it like if you've
- 41:08ever heard that Australians are a bit racist, they're probably
- 41:11talking about the. Footy Show Watch The Footy Show
- 41:14Yeah. There's a character, but here's
- 41:16the thing. And we've talked about this play
- 41:17by a very. Very, very, very white.
- 41:20Person. Yeah, he looked very proud.
- 41:22Through recording though, for some reason does.
- 41:25With the shoe police. On his face, yes.
- 41:28And the accent? Yep.
- 41:32And Australia had no problem with it at all it.
- 41:36It was very popular. It was absolutely.
- 41:38Fine, it was very popular. I'm not going to pretend.
- 41:41I'm not going to pretend that I was like on a crusade against it
- 41:44Australia had. No issues were.
- 41:46Australia had no. Issue with blackface.
- 41:48Go back and listen. To some of the episodes, early
- 41:51episodes of this podcast, I don't know.
- 41:52So hey, hey. It's Saturday.
- 41:54Who was it? It was.
- 41:56Oh. It was Harry Connick.
- 41:57Junior Harry Connick, junior. Went on and went, yeah, no, this
- 42:01isn't right. And that's when Australia went
- 42:03Oh guy. Did a Jackson 5A Jackson 5 where
- 42:07he was in blackface and he has four other puppets also
- 42:11blackface. I was watching that live when it
- 42:13what happened? Yeah, with Like with My Mum and
- 42:14Live Show. This is and then on the repeat
- 42:17that I did on the the next because I used to do a repeat.
- 42:21Yeah, that's right. Interesting.
- 42:23The next week. But that was literally the day
- 42:25Australia was told explicitly that blackface is not OK.
- 42:30Yeah, by Harry. Connick Junior.
- 42:31Yep, in like in. The mid 90s, yeah, live on.
- 42:34Television, not in the. 50s people, yeah, midnight.
- 42:37We just we. Didn't know until that day we we
- 42:40literally know. Jokes are we?
- 42:43Didn't know. Didn't.
- 42:47The only time. I remember that anyone got in
- 42:50trouble and and it's because of the context, but do you remember
- 42:54also in the mid 90s a policeman from the NSW Police Service was.
- 43:02Exposed. Because he went on videotape
- 43:06dressing. So an Aboriginal person had hung
- 43:08themselves in jail, right? And it was very sad.
- 43:11And then he went in blackface with a noose.
- 43:16And. Went into the police stations
- 43:18like Christmas party dressed like that and and that's really.
- 43:24Really foretaste. So he wasn't just in.
- 43:27Blackface. He was dressed as a specific
- 43:29yeah, yeah, yeah. Indigenous person who had just
- 43:31died in custody. Yeah.
- 43:33And fucking and somebody and people were videotaping and he
- 43:36was like playing it for the camera.
- 43:38And then someone got a whole. One person was.
- 43:41Like should we not do that? Is this not OK?
- 43:45I think the. Problem is, is like, well blah
- 43:47blah, the problem. But The thing is, when Australia
- 43:50was doing it, it wasn't the making fun of that is where the
- 43:55negativity really came from back.
- 43:58In. Yeah.
- 43:59It didn't have the same history. Oh, that's that's right, It had
- 44:02a. Very different history to my my
- 44:04sense. Of my sense of that kind of
- 44:06stuff, especially when we were kids, was that that that you
- 44:09were like push, push it, see how far you can go with like, yeah,
- 44:14yeah, yeah. Edgy edge Lord humor.
- 44:16And I know a lot of people like, you know, James, I think I
- 44:18thought that up. And mentioned that that's the.
- 44:20Same kind of thing, you look at his tweets that he got in
- 44:22trouble for. It's the same thing.
- 44:23It's like there was, especially when we were kids in Australia
- 44:26in particular, I can't speak for Australia because that's where I
- 44:28was. There was this thing where it
- 44:30was like, be as fucking edgy as you can and see how far you can
- 44:33get without, you know, even the show.
- 44:36That was when we found out that yes, we can't do this.
- 44:39It wasn't someone because nobody Jackson or anything like it was
- 44:43someone dressed up and being in Jackson 5 and doing the dance
- 44:46moves and dancing. Yeah, and that and he's clearly.
- 44:48Learned the dance because he fucking loved Michael Jackson.
- 44:51Like it definitely wasn't, I also think.
- 44:55It's not. You can't really say like we
- 44:56didn't know that it wasn't OK. We kind of knew a bit.
- 45:00That's why we were doing it, yeah.
- 45:02Sure, yeah, but but the. It was kind of like almost like
- 45:06we knew there was a line and we were kind of we, we thought we
- 45:10were dancing just on this side of the line.
- 45:12And then suddenly the rest of the world went no, you're.
- 45:14Actually, the line is way, way behind you.
- 45:16Yeah. The line left the line a long
- 45:19time, yeah. And it's I'm not even.
- 45:21Trying to excuse it. I'm just saying that's what it
- 45:23felt like, I think for a lot of Australians.
- 45:25Was it like, yeah. Oh, OK, yeah, it's funny
- 45:27because. It's a bit edgy, yeah, you're
- 45:29right. But yeah, no, but.
- 45:30As I was saying, like our history with it was very
- 45:33different to the rest of the world where it was making fun of
- 45:36putting people down and like I do.
- 45:39Remember when you're brought. Up and everybody.
- 45:40'S doing it. It's very, sometimes very
- 45:42difficult to see. Yeah, to see it the way that.
- 45:45Yeah. And.
- 45:46Also, we put ourselves down. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:49That's. True.
- 45:49Very. Deprecating and there weren't.
- 45:51Anyone except for white people on TV up until fairly recently
- 45:55as well, like when I was a kid, I would watch, I would have
- 45:59reflected back an Australia that I'd never actually saw when I
- 46:02looked out the window. You know, like like, like we
- 46:06weren't all Crocodile Dundee, but it was definitely more
- 46:08Crocodile Dundee than what was actually happening.
- 46:12Sure. But there were.
- 46:13I do remember that other episode of of Hey Hey It's Saturday.
- 46:17They didn't have the benefit of Harry Connick Junior, which was
- 46:19a bit of AI guess a reverse black face because they had the
- 46:22singer Kamal who's an. Indian.
- 46:25And halfway through him singing they ran in and and threw white
- 46:30paint on his face like I don't remember.
- 46:33That yeah, it's. Online Famous.
- 46:36Incident. Yeah, God.
- 46:39I know I don't. I don't want to make it sound
- 46:41like I'm excusing any of it. No, I'm just saying, I feel like
- 46:45it's, it's, you know, you grow up in a culture and you just
- 46:48kind of do what everybody else does.
- 46:49And the problem. The thing is, as long as you
- 46:51don't, you don't think about it. Until somebody says, hey,
- 46:54that's, that's a bit, that's racist.
- 46:56And you go, yeah, yeah. I mean, like, I'll, I'll, I used
- 47:00to think it was perfectly OK, not perfectly OK.
- 47:03Again, I knew I was being edgy, but I used to feel, no, you were
- 47:06in trouble. Doing it was a Chinese.
- 47:09Accent until I literally married a Chinese person that said you
- 47:12need to stop doing that. Yeah.
- 47:18But no as. As I think as long as you learn
- 47:21and move forward, doesn't matter what you've done in your past,
- 47:23what you do now, as long as you go, Once you find out, you go
- 47:25what you've done. No, that's I.
- 47:28No, I. Do believe that as long as yeah,
- 47:31yeah. That's yeah.
- 47:33I mean, obviously, I think probably it's clear we've
- 47:35reflected on this quite a bit because even on this show, we
- 47:39have done stuff in the past where and then realized, Oh no,
- 47:42no, it's not OK. Yeah.
- 47:44And. That's what other is why I don't
- 47:45like cancel culture. Yeah, should be.
- 47:49Cancelled forever? It should be.
- 47:51If you double down and keep going, there's a problem.
- 47:54But if you go, Oh yes, I'm now going to accept, learn and move
- 47:58forward. I think if you dig up something,
- 48:00something. Somebody did 1020 years ago.
- 48:03That's ridiculous. It's not fair.
- 48:05But I do think also, I don't think that means you can do
- 48:08something now and then go all cancel culture.
- 48:10It's like, no, no, that's just consequences.
- 48:12You did a thing. Suck it up.
- 48:14But like. James Gum, like he got cancelled
- 48:16for stuff he did old stuff, old stuff and then he went yeah,
- 48:20yeah, I was being edgy and that was now not that this is what I
- 48:23do, but but he. Also said.
- 48:25The right thing, which was that he got.
- 48:27So. And that's how he also.
- 48:30He also got in early, though he got in before cancelled was a
- 48:33real thing when it was just starting.
- 48:35But he also said the right thing CANCELLED was the.
- 48:37Greatest thing for his career? Yeah, it really was.
- 48:40Because then he got sacked from and when yeah, he did, yeah, he.
- 48:43Got did both, yeah, yeah, but the.
- 48:45The thing that he said, which was true was at the time,
- 48:49everyone knew it was a joke, like, which also was true, which
- 48:53which people forget. Like it's like, yes, it was
- 48:56still offensive, but everyone knew it was a joke.
- 48:59And jokes used to be free from that certain type of scrutiny
- 49:05where they're not anymore and for better or worse.
- 49:07But yeah, yeah. And I think it shows.
- 49:09In the fact, but you cancelled 10 years ago.
- 49:11He was cancelled after that, Yeah, when everyone had
- 49:15forgotten about it. And I'm good because I'm
- 49:20looking. Forward to his Superman, the
- 49:22point is. Don't go and drink old episodes
- 49:26of this show and try to cancel this.
- 49:27That's don't. Just do.
- 49:29Don't. Look up old episodes probably
- 49:30could what he shows. Don't type in Mahatma coat and
- 49:33see what you can find. Yeah, see what they've allowed
- 49:35today. Still be on.
- 49:37Yeah, Saturday blackface. Wonder if that'll come.
- 49:39Up, still online and the real. Thing is, as long as you learn
- 49:41and move forward, it's great. If you still mind it, this is
- 49:46not. Something to be cancelled about.
- 49:48But things things are still a bit edgy because I I heard there
- 49:51was a show this week. I I saw several articles talking
- 49:54about a a British reality show called Virgin Island.
- 49:58Have you heard of this? Is this like Mule fireland?
- 50:03I've not. Seen MILF?
- 50:03Island but let me tell you the Orpheil Island.
- 50:06Let me tell you about MILF Island first.
- 50:09Please do. There was.
- 50:11A reality show where they got mothers to come in.
- 50:16They got about 10 mothers and then they had ten sons come in.
- 50:21They were. Well, everything.
- 50:23Someone's son. And it was.
- 50:25Yeah, so it's 10 people, 10 people, all mothers, sons.
- 50:28And it was a whole show which just like who they won't go with
- 50:32the others and and with the others also the steel filing
- 50:34same thing. So I'm going to guess this is
- 50:36same I'm telling. You this is probably from the
- 50:38same wait wait wait hen users you know.
- 50:41I know this is just a. Cultural thing DILF is.
- 50:44Dad with dads and daughters. Because as soon as you said
- 50:48that, my brain was way more shocked than it was the first
- 50:51time. And I was like, that's weird.
- 50:53I I. Think that with the the MILF
- 50:55file because I only saw a couple of episodes of that.
- 50:57It was people because the MILF 1 is just like but it was
- 51:00disensitizing milfs. Where they would.
- 51:02Have like the blindfold, which of these old men?
- 51:05And have the sons managed to convince the young girls to fuck
- 51:08them? Yeah.
- 51:10That's no they they're both. Just as bad.
- 51:13So this is that. I.
- 51:13I. Agree, but meant by meant I have
- 51:16to do a bit more work mentally to not be OK with them.
- 51:19Completely, yeah. Yeah, it's not quite, it's not
- 51:21quite equal. It's fine, but it's not quite
- 51:23equal. Yeah, the dad one I was that's.
- 51:24Like so, yeah. Imagine like in, in in what, 15
- 51:29years You go on a reality TV show where it's you and on the
- 51:33other side it's people your age trying to have sex with your
- 51:36daughters. That's the show.
- 51:38Because Joe, I was just thinking.
- 51:39Imagine American Pie and the only.
- 51:40Upside is that maybe you can. Differ somewhere.
- 51:42Any friends banging all the chicks?
- 51:44All the schoolgirls like I. Imagine that they would.
- 51:48Never in a million years would that have been a show, even back
- 51:50then. Well, Virgin Islands.
- 51:53This is this is what I read. This is what I read.
- 51:56Virgin Island is of a show like just like that tropical island.
- 52:0010 people who are virgins, adults, all adults, not related.
- 52:06I just have to. Everyone of age, but I'm talking
- 52:09about there's no yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:13And I guess. The premise is they're going to
- 52:15lose their virginity while they're on the island.
- 52:17Fine. I wouldn't watch this show.
- 52:20Fine. What about?
- 52:20Well, yeah, right. Except the reason that people
- 52:24are angry is because in addition to this, them just hoping that
- 52:29they get it on with each other. They've brought in what they
- 52:32call professional intimacy standings for them to fuck.
- 52:39Right. So I was like prostitutes.
- 52:42Exactly. So is the versions, are they
- 52:45guys or girls or is it a mixture?
- 52:47And the reason I can tell you is because I watched 3 episodes of
- 52:50this this week because I was like, there's only three that
- 52:53good. It's.
- 52:54That good? It's not.
- 52:55Good And I watched it. I I was like, were you?
- 52:57Watching it or were you standing over with someone else watching
- 53:00it and then you go to leave? I fucking watch this.
- 53:04I want I read an article. Where they said virgins are sent
- 53:08to an island and prostitutes are brought in.
- 53:10I was like, it can't be that. It cannot be that.
- 53:13It cannot, and it isn't. No way they stolen my idea for a
- 53:16show. Except my idea wasn't a show and
- 53:20there was no island. That's how I lost.
- 53:23My virginity. That's right.
- 53:26So. But here's The funny thing.
- 53:27Okay so it's half right, 10 virgins, guys and girls all
- 53:32brought in okay? Most.
- 53:35Okay, but okay. Most of the guys.
- 53:37The idea of the show would be. If you throw them together,
- 53:40they're all attractive. Let them fuck.
- 53:43OK, that's. Almost none of almost none of
- 53:45them are attractive in the in a conventional.
- 53:47Way right, They're pretty. Normal looking, right?
- 53:50They're all pretty normal looking.
- 53:51That's shrinking. Some American.
- 53:52Some of them. No, it's British.
- 53:55Oh. Some of them.
- 53:58Are virgins because they are like, deeply religious?
- 54:06Anxious. About their bodies intimacy.
- 54:10Which is not. Funny, that's not good, right?
- 54:13Right, that's not good. Some of them seem.
- 54:15Prostitutes someone seem. Some of them seem neurodivergent
- 54:20and there's there's one girl who's quite pretty but she is
- 54:24like fucking body dysmorphia intimacy.
- 54:28Like I wouldn't be surprised if she had trauma in her past
- 54:31right? Anyway, it's not prostitutes.
- 54:34It's a group of and there's more.
- 54:37They call them coaches. There's more coaches than there
- 54:39are contestants. And they're all these fucking
- 54:41guys and girls, hot muscular guys and like fucking slinky
- 54:46women who are also apparently sex therapists in clothes.
- 54:49I don't know what their actual credentials are.
- 54:51They've had sex. But.
- 54:53They they literally just get it on with the contestants.
- 54:57And The funny thing is the boys right, go along with it pretty
- 55:02easily because they're like, Oh yes, would you like it?
- 55:04Would you like it if I touched you here?
- 55:05Would you like if I touch you there?
- 55:06And then like I watched one where they like they were naked,
- 55:09like they weren't fucking. I've not seen fucking, but they
- 55:12were dry humping and the guy did come, right?
- 55:15So says that. But then when you have heard it,
- 55:19so there's this one where, yeah, I did.
- 55:21There's one where there's this fucking poor girl standing there
- 55:23and this fucking dirty guy with a Gray ponytail and big muscles
- 55:27are sitting there. He's like, where would you like
- 55:29me to touch you? And she's like nowhere, nowhere.
- 55:32Yeah. And it's like, please leave me
- 55:33alone. Yeah.
- 55:34It doesn't have to be sexual. Maybe just tell me on your body
- 55:37where you like to be touched. It's like, I don't like to be
- 55:39touched. And I don't know you like it
- 55:42was. It's so it just shows a men and
- 55:45women's TV show. But also, yeah.
- 55:47Why is this television? See at least with.
- 55:52The the Bill of Ireland type of thing that was like they've all
- 55:56signed up for it and it was they didn't know they didn't know it
- 55:59was going to be them with their mothers.
- 56:01And but they both signed up for a show where hot people dating
- 56:05other people. And that's and I think a show
- 56:06like. That it's those extroverts, you
- 56:10know, it's, you know, like, you know, you're young people, like
- 56:12Big Brother people who go Big Brother wannabe.
- 56:15Oh yeah, famous. Yeah, they're very extroverts.
- 56:18Very first. Season, yeah, before people.
- 56:21Knew about it. It wasn't the show you're
- 56:23describing. There it sounds like you would
- 56:25have to find the opposite of that, because people, people who
- 56:28would normally go on a show like that, aren't virgins because
- 56:32they're up for fucking anything and they're not just.
- 56:35Personality. Wise, you know what I mean?
- 56:36And this show is. A stepping stone for the next 15
- 56:39minutes of fame? Yeah, Or just club appearances.
- 56:42Or. Something.
- 56:43Yeah, that's right. I just.
- 56:44I mean, maybe I'm. Wrong, but I feel like I do you.
- 56:46Know why to go on a show like that?
- 56:49You're just not the kind of person who hasn't already tried
- 56:52quite hard to actually, no, I've.
- 56:53Seen it not being a terrible show except for the fact that
- 56:56they went down The Dirty sexual prostitute path instead of
- 57:02strange. Yeah.
- 57:04Trying to be. Actual coaching.
- 57:08Like don't have a problem with your body build up your
- 57:11confidence type of thing. I think that's part.
- 57:14Entertainment. But it's the same thing.
- 57:16Obviously Great Western Hwy. Yeah, you.
- 57:19Just have so much fun doing pimp ROMs down there man.
- 57:23But the same thing. So they had this, they had this
- 57:25one where they took the boys into a room.
- 57:27They took the girls into a room. And this woman came out as this
- 57:29beautiful woman and stripped off and and sat there going ask me
- 57:33about my body. Look at my body.
- 57:35And the guys are fucking. Yeah, like these guys are only
- 57:38virgins because no one will fuck them.
- 57:40It's the same thing in the other room.
- 57:42The guys like, look at my Dick. Look at this.
- 57:45What do you think? And the girls are like, mate, if
- 57:48you think you're the first guy that showed me their Dick, like,
- 57:50yeah, that's not why. She's just not the.
- 57:53Issue. Yeah, I feel like it's a.
- 57:56Different demographic, male virgins versus feel.
- 57:59Feel, yeah. Not.
- 58:01It's not the stereotype, but I've just, well, I mean, for a
- 58:03demographic, it's yeah. This the show.
- 58:05Certainly reinforces that that is definitely the case at least.
- 58:08Should I watch it? My experience.
- 58:11I mean. Grown up.
- 58:12And known a lot of teenage. Boys and whatnot.
- 58:15Then the the the reasons boys don't do it is very different.
- 58:18The reasons girls don't do it, yes.
- 58:20They're fucking desperate to do it, yeah.
- 58:23We just. Some people don't let us do it.
- 58:26That's. I'm.
- 58:29I mean, I'm a guy and I'm still amazed at the length some guys
- 58:31went to when I was in high school.
- 58:33Oh yeah. Yeah, I mean, look at movies
- 58:35like. Revenge of the Nerds and Porgies
- 58:36we already talked about. Yes, the things they do in
- 58:38those. Movies cottage industry based on
- 58:39this porkies. Do try to do.
- 58:41Those things, no, that's how they.
- 58:43Drill a hole. Through the wall of the of the
- 58:47girls change rooms to watch them and at one point he sticks his
- 58:49Dick through and and hopes that someone sucks it but the the
- 58:52coach comes in instead of the girls.
- 58:54OK, OK. They're all porky's good, but
- 58:56some of porkies is actually a positive social commentary.
- 59:03It's not the glory. Hold it.
- 59:05I think everyone should watch. Maybe not for the sick stuff
- 59:09about the positive that they're against racism.
- 59:12That's what the porkish is about.
- 59:14Yeah. Yeah.
- 59:14They'll rape anyone, any race. Look, Speaking of.
- 59:19Movies. I just wanted to mention this
- 59:21quickly. I thought this was very
- 59:22interesting. You guys heard of Ballerina?
- 59:25No. I haven't.
- 59:26Did you did you finish? Talking about Virgin Island, I
- 59:28didn't mean to. Yeah, that's.
- 59:29All that's it. There's no more episodes.
- 59:31I'll, I'll check back in next week.
- 59:32OK, Let us know how it goes. Ballerina's out.
- 59:37Well, sorry, it's not out. It's been out for for critics,
- 59:41OK. And they have and I believe
- 59:43this, I'm led to believe this is the first time this has
- 59:45happened. They've been interesting policy
- 59:47regarding reviews. The ballerina.
- 59:50It's been controversial, basically.
- 59:53Actually, you know what? I'll read the exact text and let
- 59:57you know. You let me know if you think
- 59:59this is a normal way, a normal way to do things.
- 1:00:03This is sent to. Influencers and critics.
- 1:00:06We. Encourage spoiler free
- 1:00:08enthusiasm across social starting May 22nd at 1:00 PM
- 1:00:12Four PMP Eastern if you're planning to review the film.
- 1:00:16Critical social sentiment and formal reviews are embargoed
- 1:00:20until Wednesday, June 4th at 30. So in other words, if you're
- 1:00:25gonna say something nice, go for it.
- 1:00:27If not for you. Go be alive.
- 1:00:29Yeah, that's. I don't think you're allowed to
- 1:00:31do that. I.
- 1:00:31Don't think you're allowed to do.
- 1:00:32That. I think you.
- 1:00:35Certainly seems infringement of freedom of the press like the
- 1:00:38embargo is great. Like it?
- 1:00:41Once she gets to this stage, go crazy, that's it makes.
- 1:00:44Me think how bad's this movie? Well, this is very.
- 1:00:47Good. It's just a.
- 1:00:48Weird poll. This is a John Wick.
- 1:00:49Spin off right, yes, that's what this is So I I love the John
- 1:00:53Wick, the movie John Wick. I wasn't that crash hot on the
- 1:00:56sequels. I thought they took a good thing
- 1:00:58and they just they went off. It was better than the second.
- 1:01:01One right, I didn't. Like the second one.
- 1:01:04And I stopped, right? But evidently this is a
- 1:01:06character from one of them who's gotten their own movie, right?
- 1:01:09Yeah, it's Anna Dama. Sure.
- 1:01:11And I like her, yeah. We got told.
- 1:01:14You we're going to get. On spoiler free enthusiasm I can
- 1:01:17express or. You'd spoiler because I know
- 1:01:20like. Every now and again we will get
- 1:01:22stuff where we can talk about. I only will accept stuff that
- 1:01:27I'm interested in, yes. Yeah, I know we're in a unique
- 1:01:30position and that we're not relying on.
- 1:01:32Yeah, we're not relying on anything.
- 1:01:33But yeah, unless I'm interested in it, I will not accept
- 1:01:36anything or even be considered talking about Yeah, we're lucky
- 1:01:40in. That we've never made any money.
- 1:01:41So it really just doesn't occur to us.
- 1:01:43And just to be clear. No one's ever offered us any
- 1:01:45money. No, that's what I.
- 1:01:47Mean though, so we're not when we.
- 1:01:49Do we're not. We don't have that thing in our
- 1:01:50mind where we're like, oh, I better say yes, because of
- 1:01:53sponsors or whatever like that. We don't have any sponsors.
- 1:01:55Yeah, yeah. Yeah, just to be clear, the
- 1:01:57makers of Virgin Island didn't ask me to review this show, but.
- 1:02:01Every day and again I do get offers for a code or something I
- 1:02:04pretty much will not. Accept.
- 1:02:06Anything. Unless it's something I want,
- 1:02:10yeah, it's not. But something I'm that would be
- 1:02:15something I'm interested in. Enthusiastic criticism, Yes, I
- 1:02:19usually. Just say no anyway.
- 1:02:21But this is the way you said that is funny.
- 1:02:22I mean, if they offer me, you know, the new Assassin's Creed,
- 1:02:25I'll take it 'cause I fucking want that game.
- 1:02:27But. But yeah.
- 1:02:28I'm not a review. I do say.
- 1:02:31I do say. I've stopped doing it at all,
- 1:02:33but I always did say, by the way, I cannot guarantee that
- 1:02:36I'll even mention this. Just so you were aware.
- 1:02:39If you're happy to give me a key, this is not a deal.
- 1:02:41You were fishing here? Yeah, this podcast.
- 1:02:44Is incredibly spontaneous and I may just forget.
