- 0:02Speaker 1: I think the first thing that comes to mind is
- 0:04Speaker 1: like just being myself. Honestly, I was such a shy
- 0:08Speaker 1: little kid and even just like going up and like
- 0:11Speaker 1: making friends was like terrifying to me for some reason.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Like I would go to summer camp and like, I'd
- 0:18Speaker 1: go into the art room and like sew myself a
- 0:19Speaker 1: friend that I would like carry around. Cause I was just,
- 0:22Speaker 1: I just didn't like tear other people is terrifying me.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I don't know. Um, And I think now looking back,
- 0:29Speaker 1: like especially compared to that, I've like broken out of
- 0:32Speaker 1: my shell. And don't fear that as much and kind
- 0:36Speaker 1: of like know that just be myself. And some people
- 0:39Speaker 1: might not like it, but then you'll find the people
- 0:41Speaker 1: that do. But kind of like you touched on just
- 0:44Speaker 1: this like I think a really powerful thing of Monsters, Inc.,
- 0:48Speaker 1: not only Boo facing your fear, but just the underlying
- 0:51Speaker 1: theme of like laughter and joy being more powerful than fear.
- 0:56Speaker 1: is a really cool concept that I think Pixar brought
- 1:00Speaker 1: through that movie. So that's a good reminder too.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Do you have a specific moment when you remember or
- 1:08Speaker 2: it just sticks out to you when you were yourself
- 1:11Speaker 2: with someone or in a situation and it went better
- 1:14Speaker 2: than you thought it was going to go? Yeah, I think.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I think it's always.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I love how you're like, uh-huh, maybe. Maybe.
- 1:24Speaker 1: No, no. But I think it would always go better
- 1:26Speaker 1: than I thought it would. And just generally. I think like,
- 1:32Speaker 1: you know, I went to six different high schools. And
- 1:37Speaker 1: every time you start a new school, especially once was
- 1:40Speaker 1: like in the middle of junior year twice because I
- 1:42Speaker 1: kept moving. And I'm always just afraid, yeah, are people
- 1:46Speaker 1: going to like who I am? All this stuff. And
- 1:48Speaker 1: then you realize like, you know, or I realized that
- 1:52Speaker 1: it did go better than I anticipated and then I
- 1:55Speaker 1: built up. So that's kind of the first thing that
- 1:58Speaker 1: comes to mind with that.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 1: It's still scary, but it does normally turn out better
- 2:04Speaker 1: than you think in your head.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Do you think it's easier to have friends as adults
- 2:08Speaker 2: or kids?
- 2:10Speaker 1: I think it's harder to make friends as adults.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Like, like I'm, I'm, I now live back up in
- 2:17Speaker 1: the Bay Area. I grew up in the Bay Area
- 2:18Speaker 1: until I was about 14. And then I moved around
- 2:20Speaker 1: a lot. And now I'm back up here. And I
- 2:23Speaker 1: have one friend that I've known since I was in
- 2:26Speaker 1: seventh grade. And we're still really close. But I'm still like...
- 2:29Speaker 1: I found myself, especially when I first moved, like I
- 2:31Speaker 1: would be hanging out with her and her friend group.
- 2:33Speaker 1: And I'm still a couple years into moving back here
- 2:36Speaker 1: and still trying to like find my own friend group.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So I think just like making friends as an adult
- 2:42Speaker 1: is hard.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I mean.
- 2:43Speaker 1: from my story being a Shiloh girl that was hard
- 2:46Speaker 1: making friends too but I remember just you know when
- 2:48Speaker 1: you're a kid you just have so much fun with
- 2:50Speaker 1: the friends that you do have and they like they
- 2:53Speaker 1: make believe and like I don't know just kind of
- 2:55Speaker 1: like hang out do like just in your innocence like
- 2:59Speaker 1: I don't know and so yeah I think I know
- 3:03Speaker 1: the specific question wasn't what's harder to make friends but
- 3:05Speaker 1: I definitely have found as an adult harder to make
- 3:07Speaker 1: friends so you're like I can't just like be in
- 3:10Speaker 1: elementary school and meet friends on the playground anymore.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Like, what do I do?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Where do I go?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Well, like, and even just when you were a kid,
- 3:17Speaker 2: you would always just walk up to someone and be like,
- 3:19Speaker 2: do you want to play? Yeah. Nowadays, if you do that,
- 3:23Speaker 2: they're like, um, yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 1: What's that mean?
- 3:30Speaker 2: But yeah, no, I, I think like, I mean, I don't,
- 3:35Speaker 2: cause you, do you have a, like, cause I, outside of,
- 3:39Speaker 2: obviously relatives, do you have like a family of your
- 3:43Speaker 2: own or is that something you want in the future? Or.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I'm an only child. If that's what you're asking, as
- 3:49Speaker 1: far as like family of my own, I don't have
- 3:50Speaker 1: any kids. I just have my fur baby.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Maple. Uh, but it's definitely something I want one day
- 4:00Speaker 1: for sure. Uh, always dreamed about it. So when the
- 4:05Speaker 1: right time comes for sure, when I feel me on
- 4:06Speaker 1: my own, but, But yeah, I actually just last weekend
- 4:12Speaker 1: got to go to my cousin's wedding and see a
- 4:15Speaker 1: bunch of my extended family I haven't seen in a while.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So I have a big extended family. We're kind of
- 4:20Speaker 1: all spread out, so we don't get together as much
- 4:22Speaker 1: as we all want. But that was nice. But for now,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I'm being faithful.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Was it hard for you being an only child or
- 4:31Speaker 2: did you not mind?
