- 0:09Speaker 1: Here comes as catcher. Shay Langeleier is joining us right
- 0:11Speaker 1: now on ft SHA. Great to have you on the show,
- 0:14Speaker 1: oh man. Some of our guys really love you. Trevor
- 0:17Speaker 1: May was just on what yesterday. He always talks about you,
- 0:20Speaker 1: so you you are a well liked, well talked about
- 0:23Speaker 1: man on this show over the course of the years.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Just wanted to let you know that as I say
- 0:27Speaker 1: hello and butter you up a little bit. Has it going, man,
- 0:30Speaker 1: h going good?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Thanks for having me?
- 0:32Speaker 3: Of course. Has the season going for you so far?
- 0:36Speaker 1: With the team here all getting settled and for you
- 0:38Speaker 1: off to a nice start at the plate too.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's early, still early in the year, obviously,
- 0:46Speaker 2: tough to start with six on the road, three at home,
- 0:48Speaker 2: six on the road again, two East Coast trips right
- 0:51Speaker 2: right off the gate. But you know, we're getting our
- 0:54Speaker 2: feet under us. Like I said, it's still early and
- 0:56Speaker 2: we're just you know, trying to get into the group.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Shait, where are you?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Where are you right now? I am uh Mickey Mickey
- 1:07Speaker 2: Morbido's office.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Oh tell Mickey, I said, Hi, Mickey. Tell Mickey's favorite
- 1:12Speaker 4: players is Ie and just see.
- 1:13Speaker 2: What his answer is. Please all right, I'll let him know. Yeah,
- 1:16Speaker 2: Micky will be like, oh, that's son of a gun.
- 1:18Speaker 4: I promise you. I love Mickey's He's one of the
- 1:21Speaker 4: all time greats. It's still sticking around.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Talk.
- 1:24Speaker 4: I just want to know about your fast start, dude,
- 1:26Speaker 4: like we always, I mean, your nickname has always been
- 1:28Speaker 4: bang of leers for your homer. But let's talk about
- 1:30Speaker 4: these homers you're hitting. I mean, are you gonna are
- 1:32Speaker 4: you going cal RAWLEI on us, You're gonna get to
- 1:34Speaker 4: sixty benish second to judge an MVP like Cal.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Did last year. I mean that would that would be awesome. Yeah,
- 1:42Speaker 2: but yeah, I just uh been feeling good at the plate.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I think the biggest thing for me is just like
- 1:47Speaker 2: when I feel strong and I'm early and on time,
- 1:50Speaker 2: that's when that's when the good things happen. So I'm
- 1:52Speaker 2: just trying to keep it simple and not trying to
- 1:55Speaker 2: do too much.
- 1:57Speaker 5: No no, no, do too much. Like this seems like
- 2:00Speaker 5: just just enough. But how do you as a catcher
- 2:05Speaker 5: continue that through the season. Because we were talking about you,
- 2:08Speaker 5: but I think it was like two or three weeks ago.
- 2:10Speaker 5: I think you're the most underrated catcher clearly in the game,
- 2:14Speaker 5: let alone one of the more underrated players because people
- 2:17Speaker 5: just don't see without you having a hot start like this,
- 2:20Speaker 5: people are like, I wonder who the catcher for the
- 2:23Speaker 5: A's is because you haven't gott an extension and all
- 2:25Speaker 5: that stuff. But how do you continue it and really
- 2:28Speaker 5: put your name on the map for like national media,
- 2:31Speaker 5: not just baseball fans.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, obviously, catching is a very physically demanding position.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I think pretty much every catch, I'll tell you, the
- 2:42Speaker 2: only day that you feel one hundred percent is probably
- 2:44Speaker 2: opening day, and then there's always something after that, So
- 2:48Speaker 2: you're just kind of, you know, grinding, grinding with your body,
- 2:52Speaker 2: just trying to get through it. And then kind of
- 2:54Speaker 2: like in the box, it's that any given day something
- 2:57Speaker 2: can feel off, feel different, so you're always searching for
- 2:59Speaker 2: that feel. And at the end of the day, you're
- 3:01Speaker 2: just going out there and competing whatever you're working on
- 3:03Speaker 2: in the cage. You can't be thinking about that out there.
- 3:05Speaker 2: It's just competing, competing with the guy in front of you.
- 3:09Speaker 4: What what what means more to you if you go
- 3:10Speaker 4: out and catch a shut out? I think sev Sevy's
- 3:13Speaker 4: pitching today, right, Let's see Sevey goes out, gives you
- 3:16Speaker 4: seven and the relievers come in, give you two shutdy
- 3:19Speaker 4: and you go for four with a couple of punches whatever.
- 3:22Speaker 4: But you know, you guys win five to nothing, seven nothing.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Or you go out and you hit two homers and
- 3:27Speaker 4: you guys still win, but the pitchers struggle. Which one
- 3:29Speaker 4: means more to you?
- 3:30Speaker 3: Still?
- 3:30Speaker 4: Now you win in both. So I'm not gonna say like,
- 3:32Speaker 4: you win and lose, cause I I I know as
- 3:34Speaker 4: catchers were not happy hit guys like you know, there
- 3:36Speaker 4: are those guys.
- 3:37Speaker 2: So which one means more to you? Give me the
- 3:39Speaker 2: shuddy every day of the week. Perfect games. Yeah, you
- 3:43Speaker 2: get the U you get the pitchers in the flow,
- 3:45Speaker 2: you get the starter into the you know, into the
- 3:47Speaker 2: game feeling good, and then the bullpen comes in strong
- 3:50Speaker 2: and you throw a shut out. That's that's always the
- 3:53Speaker 2: best say.
- 3:55Speaker 5: They never tell. They never talk about how many shutouts A. J.
- 3:58Speaker 5: Prazinski had. They only talk talk about his two thousand hits,
- 4:02Speaker 5: the fact that he played every single day. What would
- 4:05Speaker 5: it mean to what would it mean to you to say,
- 4:08Speaker 5: beginning of the season they come in and they go, Shay,
- 4:11Speaker 5: we want you to play like one hundred and ten
- 4:13Speaker 5: games to keep you fresh? Is that more of a
- 4:16Speaker 5: slap in the face than moving down in the order
- 4:18Speaker 5: than anything else.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I don't, I don't know about a slap in the face.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I mean, I guess you could. You could look at
- 4:25Speaker 2: it multiple ways, right, Like they're trying to keep you fresh,
- 4:27Speaker 2: they want you to perform well, feel good. But at
- 4:30Speaker 2: the same time, it's like, I want to be the
- 4:32Speaker 2: line up every day. I want to play, I want
- 4:34Speaker 2: to I want to help the help the team win.
- 4:37Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean, I don't think i'd look at
- 4:39Speaker 2: it as a slap in the face.
- 4:42Speaker 5: All right, Well, then we'll talk about what was almost
- 4:44Speaker 5: a slap in the face. I don't know if you
- 4:46Speaker 5: saw the highlight of Jorge sol Lair charging them ount
- 4:49Speaker 5: charging redholl A Lopez, what is your thought process in
- 4:53Speaker 5: a situation like that? Have you ever been in a
- 4:56Speaker 5: situation like that? And what did you do if you were?
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean from I've only seen the videos, don't
- 5:05Speaker 2: know like the backstory and all that or anything. I
- 5:06Speaker 2: haven't really got caught up. But there was there was
- 5:09Speaker 2: one game when I was in Lowa in twenty nineteen,
- 5:12Speaker 2: in Rome, Georgia, we cleared the benches twice in one game.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Then the first time we cleared, I was I think
- 5:20Speaker 2: I'd just gotten out, like gotten back to the dugout,
- 5:22Speaker 2: was putting on my shin guards, realized that our guys
- 5:24Speaker 2: were running out the dugout, so I ran out of
- 5:26Speaker 2: the dugout with one shint guard on. So it was
- 5:27Speaker 2: caught completely off guard. But yeah, I think in that situation,
- 5:32Speaker 2: it's just from what it looked like to me, it
- 5:34Speaker 2: kind of caught everybody off guard except for Solayer and Lopez.
- 5:38Speaker 2: They were they I guess they kind of knew it
- 5:39Speaker 2: was going down or like they were getting into it.
- 5:42Speaker 2: But yeah, it just seemed kind of like a weird situation.
- 5:47Speaker 2: So hold up.
- 5:48Speaker 4: So you were with the Braves at the time in Rome,
- 5:51Speaker 4: So this is the Braves thing. The Braves just like
- 5:53Speaker 4: to fight everybody. Is that what you're saying?
- 5:56Speaker 2: Put that out there.
- 5:56Speaker 4: The Braves want to fight everybody?
- 5:59Speaker 2: No, no, no, not that. I think it was just
- 6:01Speaker 2: one of those, uh, just tempers flared and low. I mean,
- 6:04Speaker 2: there's a bunch of like early twenty year olds out
- 6:06Speaker 2: there on the field and not really knowing what's going on.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Would you now, do you know what the rule what
- 6:12Speaker 4: the first rule of catching is if you're catching, because
- 6:14Speaker 4: you said you were in the dugout, so were you
- 6:16Speaker 4: catching it? Have you ever caught when a guy is
- 6:17Speaker 4: charged him mount?
- 6:19Speaker 2: I have not, but I know you're not supposed to
- 6:21Speaker 2: let him get to the picture.
- 6:22Speaker 4: That's right, rule number one. No matter what happens, if you,
- 6:24Speaker 4: if you die in this fight, Shay, at least go
- 6:27Speaker 4: down dying knowing that he didn't get any licks on
- 6:29Speaker 4: your picture. Okay, so make sure that if it ever happens,
- 6:33Speaker 4: you don't better get there, like if you get a
- 6:35Speaker 4: spike to the throat or something. But at least you
- 6:37Speaker 4: stopped him from beating up your picture.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah. If I if I die, I die, I'm gonna
- 6:41Speaker 2: Walt Weiss and tackle him, take.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Him Downe't go mess with Wis.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Yeah, do not mess with Walt Wisse.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Wait?
- 6:50Speaker 4: What years were you with the Braves?
- 6:52Speaker 2: So I got drafted in twenty nineteen by the Braves
- 6:54Speaker 2: and then I was traded the first day of camp
- 6:56Speaker 2: in twenty twenty two.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Okay, so you weren't there for the was gonna ask
- 7:00Speaker 4: if you were there for the Donaldson thing, But I
- 7:01Speaker 4: think that was before.
- 7:02Speaker 2: That Uh, yeah, I think it was the year before
- 7:05Speaker 2: or maybe I was in I was in low Way
- 7:07Speaker 2: when that happened.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Got it okay, so that wouldn't surprised you then, Okay.
- 7:13Speaker 1: With over thirty five million downloads, what is the number
- 7:17Speaker 1: one rated ticketing app, Todd Father.
- 7:19Speaker 6: It's simple man, see Geek. As we know, man, they
- 7:22Speaker 6: have a lot of things that helps you out along
- 7:24Speaker 6: the way. They have green dots meaning good and red
- 7:27Speaker 6: dots meaning bad, and it's on a scale of one
- 7:28Speaker 6: to ten, showing you, Scott, how good the seats are.
- 7:32Speaker 6: And sometimes you want to sit in the nosebleeders, sometimes
- 7:34Speaker 6: you want to sit in really good seats and Scott,
- 7:36Speaker 6: you know the code.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Right, yeah?
- 7:37Speaker 3: I do.
- 7:37Speaker 1: And also I know that you always like a good deal.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Oh so Seek helps you out all the time with that.
- 7:42Speaker 1: They also help you out with the exclusive FT code
- 7:45Speaker 1: which is Territory ten for ten percent off your next

- 7:55Speaker 1: R Y one zero. Make sure you click the link
- 7:57Speaker 1: in the description to download the app and you can
- 8:00Speaker 1: have that code automatically added to your account so that
- 8:02Speaker 1: you can use it later. There are regular season MLB
- 8:05Speaker 1: games going on right now. There are hot tickets across
- 8:08Speaker 1: the country, so make sure you go to seat geek.
- 8:11Speaker 3: They will take care of you, all right.
- 8:15Speaker 5: But you're gonna go out and you're you know, AJ's
- 8:17Speaker 5: telling you to die. But is there a guy not
- 8:21Speaker 5: a guy?
- 8:22Speaker 4: Not exactly. I didn't say die. I go out there
- 8:24Speaker 4: and die.
- 8:25Speaker 5: I mean, that's exactly what you said.
- 8:27Speaker 2: That's what we'll clip.
- 8:28Speaker 5: But either way, either way, is there a guy in
- 8:32Speaker 5: the league though, that you look at? Because AJ was
- 8:34Speaker 5: talking about Miguel Olivo, I like, one of the largest
- 8:38Speaker 5: men in the league, super strong, and he caught him
- 8:41Speaker 5: from behind and held his arms. The fight I got
- 8:44Speaker 5: in was with Prince Fielder, like another monstrous dude. Is
- 8:48Speaker 5: there a guy in the league that you look at
- 8:49Speaker 5: and you go if he charges, like, we're kind of
- 8:53Speaker 5: pretty good, Like I'll get there at some point, but
- 8:55Speaker 5: we're good like not getting in the way. Is there
- 8:57Speaker 5: one guy?
- 8:59Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, there there are some guys. But I
- 9:03Speaker 2: think it's just like it goes back to what age
- 9:05Speaker 2: I said, you gotta do what you gotta do. You know,
- 9:06Speaker 2: you got to get in the way somehow, try to
- 9:09Speaker 2: get him to the ground and not let him get there.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I mean, we're at We're in New York right now.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Aaron Judge is huge, so that would honestly probably be
- 9:17Speaker 2: pretty terrifying. But I try to do it what I
- 9:19Speaker 2: gotta do.
- 9:20Speaker 4: You know, listen eron again. If Aaron Judge picks you
- 9:24Speaker 4: up and grabs you by your your hair ees to
- 9:26Speaker 4: eat you. You didn't get to the picture, just remember
- 9:29Speaker 4: that doesn't matter.
- 9:31Speaker 2: I got in the way, Yeah, and then you wait.
- 9:32Speaker 4: For the big guys to get there, like Nick Kurtz
- 9:34Speaker 4: and Rooker and those guys.
- 9:36Speaker 2: You let those guys get there. I'll just keep the
- 9:39Speaker 2: mask on.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Keep always also another great point, always go veritec and
- 9:43Speaker 4: leave the mask on, like right, you don't want to
- 9:46Speaker 4: ruin your face, right, So if they punt you, then
- 9:49Speaker 4: they hit the mask and then they break their hand
- 9:51Speaker 4: and you get to beat them up.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 9:56Speaker 1: We get in a fight with the Yankees because John
- 9:58Speaker 1: Carlos stands one of the strongest on the planet.
- 10:00Speaker 3: But you can't open the bag of chips.
- 10:02Speaker 1: So that's his krypto that you just dangle it on
- 10:05Speaker 1: thee anything else, you're in trouble, Okay, so don't get
- 10:12Speaker 1: tackled or anything, but just say.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Open these.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Hey, how's the staff, how's the young a staff that
- 10:22Speaker 1: you're working with. I know there's a few bets in
- 10:23Speaker 1: there too, but just run through some of the guys
- 10:25Speaker 1: that you're working with, some of the you know, changes
- 10:27Speaker 1: that you've seen, especially ones that you actually saw Carrie
- 10:30Speaker 1: through from spring training to the regular season. I know,
- 10:32Speaker 1: some guys, especially nowadays in today's sport, you know, it's
- 10:35Speaker 1: almost like every guy shows up, they want to do
- 10:37Speaker 1: something different.
- 10:38Speaker 3: And try it out.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Have you seen anything from there actually translate now to
- 10:41Speaker 1: the first couple of starts.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's just always like like you said
- 10:47Speaker 2: the pictures, it's kind of like hitters too. We're always
- 10:49Speaker 2: looking for that next edge, that next way to to
- 10:52Speaker 2: get better, take that step forward. But yeah, I mean
- 10:56Speaker 2: it's you got like like it comes to mind, like
- 10:58Speaker 2: Jacob Lopez had a had a great rookie season last year,
- 11:01Speaker 2: where where he's trying to build off that j T
- 11:03Speaker 2: Gins had had some success. He's looking to, you know,
- 11:05Speaker 2: keep keep getting better and take that next step forward.
- 11:08Speaker 2: It's just it's always like it's the it's the simple
- 11:10Speaker 2: things that that people like make complicated. It's just refining
- 11:13Speaker 2: your craft, understanding that wearing the zone you have success
- 11:17Speaker 2: and attacking that. And you know, at the at the
- 11:20Speaker 2: end of the day, like hitting, hitting is the hardest
- 11:22Speaker 2: thing to do in all of sports. So the picture
- 11:25Speaker 2: should be aggressive and attack to strike zone.
- 11:27Speaker 5: And it's your job to tell him to how to
- 11:29Speaker 5: do that, right, Like you're the You're the constant, You're
- 11:32Speaker 5: the constant voice he needs to hear when you hit
- 11:35Speaker 5: the button and it goes, it goes to basketball ball.
- 11:41Speaker 5: But you're playing in Sacramento for your second year. You're
- 11:44Speaker 5: out there every single freaking day and it gets hot.
- 11:48Speaker 5: One are you glad that they didn't put turf in?
- 11:51Speaker 5: And two have you guys figured out some things that
- 11:56Speaker 5: helped that I wish I had learned that last year
- 11:58Speaker 5: at the beginning of the year.
- 11:59Speaker 3: And so incremental.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think there's really anything that we
- 12:05Speaker 2: wish we would have known. It's just kind of like
- 12:07Speaker 2: as this season went along, as everybody saw the ball
- 12:09Speaker 2: flies there, it's a it's a hitter friendly park. You know.
- 12:14Speaker 2: There there were some heat things here and there with
- 12:16Speaker 2: the playing surface, but I mean it's hard to expect
- 12:20Speaker 2: the playing surface to be, you know, perfect when when
- 12:23Speaker 2: more on the road, the Triple A team's playing there,
- 12:25Speaker 2: and then when we come home, there's a game on
- 12:26Speaker 2: that field every single day. So I mean, the ground
- 12:28Speaker 2: screws working their tails off trying to keep keep that
- 12:32Speaker 2: thing in shape. But yeah, it does get hot, but
- 12:36Speaker 2: I'm I'm from Texas where it gets really humid too
- 12:38Speaker 2: and hot, so like, at least at least the humidity
- 12:41Speaker 2: is not a thing. And you know, it's a little
- 12:43Speaker 2: easier to deal with drier heat.
- 12:45Speaker 5: Okay, dry heat, I like that.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Now.
- 12:48Speaker 5: The biggest question for me when I look it to
- 12:50Speaker 5: up and down this lineup, everybody's got extensions except for you,
- 12:54Speaker 5: like a guy that in my opinion and AJ's opinion,
- 12:57Speaker 5: the lynch pin of the team is the catcher. Short
- 13:01Speaker 5: stop is great, center field is great, all that stuff.
- 13:04Speaker 5: Those extension talks for you, what do they Is it
- 13:09Speaker 5: a distraction for you? Is it something that you want
- 13:12Speaker 5: the team to visit more? How do you approach it
- 13:15Speaker 5: as a player off season and in season?
- 13:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think for sure, I think in
- 13:21Speaker 2: season it could definitely be a distraction. Obviously, the goal
- 13:25Speaker 2: is night in, night out. You want you want to
- 13:26Speaker 2: go out there performing your best and and come away
- 13:29Speaker 2: with a win. Right, But I mean all everything is
- 13:33Speaker 2: going to work out the way that it's supposed to.
- 13:35Speaker 2: It's not something that that I'm overly concerned about. Obviously.
- 13:39Speaker 2: I love the organization, love the guys, love the staff.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I want to be here. I want to win with
- 13:44Speaker 2: with these guys. But yeah, like I said, it's not
- 13:47Speaker 2: something I'm worried about. Are concerned about. It all work out, Hey, Shae.
- 13:54Speaker 4: One guy that got a nice contract is is Sevy,
- 13:56Speaker 4: who you said was pitching tonight. Have you had to
- 13:59Speaker 4: talks with him?
- 14:00Speaker 2: One?
- 14:01Speaker 4: Have you said, hey, let's we got to figure out
- 14:03Speaker 4: how to pitch in Sacramento because his numbers were not
- 14:05Speaker 4: very good in Sacramento. I got a little better as
- 14:07Speaker 4: the year went on. And two did you watch the
- 14:09Speaker 4: World Baseball Classic and where he was throwing a hundred
- 14:12Speaker 4: and say to him, hey, man, we need that during
- 14:14Speaker 4: the regular season, not just for the dominic game.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Uh yeah, he looked, he looked really good in the WBC,
- 14:22Speaker 2: And like, are we known? Like that's he's got that,
- 14:25Speaker 2: he's nasty, he's got he's got the arsenal, he's got
- 14:28Speaker 2: the stuff. It's just, yeah, it's just going out there
- 14:32Speaker 2: and competing, you know, and then some Knights are they're
- 14:34Speaker 2: gonna gonna be rough nights of the nights, we're gonna
- 14:36Speaker 2: have a lot of success. It's just kind of trying
- 14:38Speaker 2: to be as consistent as possible and be the same
- 14:40Speaker 2: guy every day. But yeah, I think it's it was
- 14:44Speaker 2: kind of a curveball for Sevy pitching in Sack that
- 14:47Speaker 2: first year, just because there's certain things you get accustomed
- 14:51Speaker 2: to when you're in the big leagues. Like he in
- 14:54Speaker 2: between things, he's a guy that likes to go back
- 14:55Speaker 2: into the clubhouse of the weight room or the batting
- 14:57Speaker 2: KHB in the air conditioning, sit down, relax, look at
- 15:01Speaker 2: the iPad kind of like rewatch that last inning where
- 15:04Speaker 2: we didn't have anywhere for him to go in Sacramento,
- 15:06Speaker 2: Like he's not going to go all the way back
- 15:08Speaker 2: to the clubhouse behind the left field wall, so he's
- 15:10Speaker 2: kind of just still sitting out there in the heat
- 15:13Speaker 2: in the dugout. He's got all the like there's you know,
- 15:15Speaker 2: there's twenty six guys in the dugout just walking around
- 15:18Speaker 2: like everybody's kind of in everybody's way, so there's a
- 15:21Speaker 2: lot of things to adjust to on the fly, and
- 15:24Speaker 2: we were trying to figure like he was trying to
- 15:25Speaker 2: figure that out. We were trying to figure out a
- 15:27Speaker 2: way for him to be more comfortable and have more success.
- 15:29Speaker 2: And I think when the second half of last year
- 15:32Speaker 2: showed that like, we started to figure it out.
- 15:34Speaker 5: Wait, I need to I need to know what his
- 15:36Speaker 5: what his setup looks like. Because when we played together
- 15:39Speaker 5: in New York, he had his chair and then on
- 15:43Speaker 5: the chair there was two towels, there was an extra
- 15:46Speaker 5: jersey hung behind him, there was a cooler filled with
- 15:49Speaker 5: his drinks in the cooler, and then there was towels
- 15:53Speaker 5: to the right. Is it's still the same because that
- 15:55Speaker 5: was young Sevy. This is older Sevy now.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Couldn't couldn't have just I have the picture better myself.
- 16:01Speaker 2: It's the exact same.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Does he have the does he have the towel in
- 16:06Speaker 5: front of him where he puts his feet down, if
- 16:08Speaker 5: he takes his cleats off, or does he not do
- 16:10Speaker 5: that anymore?
- 16:11Speaker 2: I haven't. I haven't seen that one. But he's he's
- 16:14Speaker 2: got the towels in there, he's got his own waters
- 16:16Speaker 2: and his cooler, he's got he's got the chair, he's
- 16:19Speaker 2: got the extra jersey, he's got all that stuff.
- 16:21Speaker 5: Yeah, it's like a whole throne. It's like a game.
- 16:24Speaker 5: But anyway in game, the abs Now that you're kind
- 16:28Speaker 5: of you're kind of in it. You're not a full
- 16:30Speaker 5: season in or even a quarter of the season in.
- 16:32Speaker 5: But what have you noticed from it? And have you
- 16:34Speaker 5: had any good stories where like a pictures like, Bro,
- 16:38Speaker 5: why didn't you do this like you told me I could?
- 16:40Speaker 2: What what? Yeah? I mean obviously, I think we all
- 16:44Speaker 2: know pictures think everything's to strike as they should. You know,
- 16:46Speaker 2: they're out there, they're out there competing, they're the ones
- 16:48Speaker 2: with the ball. So like I I, we want them
- 16:51Speaker 2: to think that way. We want them to think aggressively.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Uh abeyes it is. It's been interesting. It's something that
- 16:56Speaker 2: we're gonna keep getting used to. I think the the
- 16:59Speaker 2: tougher part from he is kind of understanding where the
- 17:01Speaker 2: top of the zone is. I think that one's the
- 17:03Speaker 2: one that kind of changes the most here and there.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I think I've got a better general idea of where
- 17:09Speaker 2: the bottom of the zone is on each individual guy.
- 17:10Speaker 2: And then the thing, the thing that I've noticed that
- 17:13Speaker 2: comes into play the most is where these guys are
- 17:15Speaker 2: standing in the box, if they're all the way in
- 17:17Speaker 2: the back, if they're at the front, Because like as catchers,
- 17:19Speaker 2: we move up when they move up, we move back
- 17:21Speaker 2: when they move back, And that eight and a half
- 17:24Speaker 2: inch back mark on the plate for the bottom of
- 17:26Speaker 2: the zone doesn't change. So like I could be closer
- 17:29Speaker 2: to that, I could be further away from that, and
- 17:31Speaker 2: that kind of changes the perception of where the bottom
- 17:33Speaker 2: of the zone's at all.
- 17:35Speaker 5: Right, last one for me, do you think cal Riley
- 17:38Speaker 5: should have been the MVP?
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yes? And that's that's I'm not I'm not taking anything
- 17:45Speaker 2: away from Aaron Judge. Aaron Judges, you know, the best
- 17:49Speaker 2: player in baseball. It's either him or Scholeton, and everybody
- 17:53Speaker 2: knows that. I just think when a catcher puts together
- 17:56Speaker 2: a season like that, just knowing, like like we all
- 17:59Speaker 2: know the grind of what we go through through in season.
- 18:03Speaker 2: He's got all the pitching meetings, doing all the scouting.
- 18:06Speaker 2: He's catching night to day games. There was there was
- 18:08Speaker 2: a game we were in Seattle. He caught the first
- 18:11Speaker 2: two night games, came out, caught the third game day
- 18:14Speaker 2: game at like twelve thirty one o'clock. Whenever it was
- 18:17Speaker 2: Logan Gilbert was on the mound. He blocked like fifteen
- 18:19Speaker 2: splitters in the dirt and hit two Homers that day.
- 18:21Speaker 2: So it was like he's just he was he's doing
- 18:24Speaker 2: he was doing things that catchers have never done before,
- 18:26Speaker 2: and in my opinion, I think that that should have been.
- 18:28Speaker 6: The m v P.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Say, by the way, Aaron Judge is going to hear
- 18:32Speaker 4: what you just said, and he might charge the catcher. Now,
- 18:34Speaker 4: he might go. I don't know if you if you
- 18:37Speaker 4: ever saw the Izzy al Kintara where he dropped kicked
- 18:40Speaker 4: the catcher, you might be careful. You better when Aaron
- 18:43Speaker 4: Judge walks up. You just better say hi, mister Judge,
- 18:45Speaker 4: Yes you deserve the m v P.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Please don't kill me. He put me on that catcher's
- 18:52Speaker 2: interference last night, so maybe he he already got that out.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Oh he already knew what you were going to answer.
- 19:01Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Yeah, he's.
- 19:03Speaker 4: A catcher, Scott, we're catchers. Did you get through these things?
- 19:06Speaker 3: Don't even feel it next day?
- 19:09Speaker 2: That's right, Shay.
- 19:11Speaker 4: People that don't know you were drafted. You went to Baylor,
- 19:13Speaker 4: you were drafted by the Braves, So did you go
- 19:16Speaker 4: to the Brave and say, listen, I have to wear
- 19:17Speaker 4: green and gold, so you have to trade me to
- 19:19Speaker 4: the Athletics so I can just keep my wardrobe green
- 19:23Speaker 4: and gold for my whole life.
- 19:26Speaker 2: No, it was it was kind of like, you know,
- 19:30Speaker 2: it's one of the one of those things. I was
- 19:31Speaker 2: just caught off guard, you know. I think twenty twenty
- 19:33Speaker 2: two is the the lockout had just ended. The non
- 19:37Speaker 2: forty man guys were already already there at at the
- 19:39Speaker 2: Spring Trading facility, so I was already there for a
- 19:41Speaker 2: couple of weeks. But then the lockout ended, so Big
- 19:44Speaker 2: League camp started. We just had like our big compliance
- 19:46Speaker 2: meeting where it was like an hour long roll in
- 19:50Speaker 2: like the huge theater or whatever. They're talking through like
- 19:52Speaker 2: the rules and like social media and stuff like that.
- 19:56Speaker 2: And then we had just started doing day one catcher's
- 19:59Speaker 2: work and then I got called into the office and yeah,
- 20:02Speaker 2: I guess you guys know how they do it just
- 20:04Speaker 2: kind of rip it off like a band aid, just
- 20:06Speaker 2: like because the whole deal that off season was if
- 20:10Speaker 2: if Freddy Freeman was going to come back or not,
- 20:12Speaker 2: and obviously we all he wound up signing with the
- 20:14Speaker 2: Dodgers and they needed a first baseman, so they went
- 20:16Speaker 2: and got metals. Good for you.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Wow, there you go. Well, the green and gold looks
- 20:24Speaker 3: good on you. I'll tell you that. Keep doing ud. Yeah,
- 20:27Speaker 3: it's fun to watch.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I love listening to you three just talk all about
- 20:31Speaker 1: the catcher's perspective throughout this, you know, last twelve.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Minutes, so I really appreciate it.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Dude, thanks for joining us, and good luck tonight and
- 20:38Speaker 1: the rest of the way until we catch up again.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Appreciate it. Thanks guys, thanks for having me.
