- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, salvage a win, but eight hundred, man, you've been
- 0:03Speaker 1: here a long time. Congratulations on that little monumental achievement there.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Thanks. Chris Pidez has been with me for every
- 0:10Speaker 2: single one of them, so he got them too.
- 0:11Speaker 1: And oh so it's like Gino and daily right.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I've also got the record for losses as a
- 0:18Speaker 2: Yukon skipper too, so but no, it's nice to get
- 0:22Speaker 2: it out of the way and onto uh exams.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Now, yeap, not an easy one today, but you got
- 0:28Speaker 1: one big inning and that's all you needed.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, it was torture watching our bats today,
- 0:33Speaker 2: and I think we had worshipt bats today than we
- 0:35Speaker 2: did yesterday, and that was gonna be hard to do.
- 0:37Speaker 2: And you know, maybe the break's coming out at the
- 0:40Speaker 2: right time. It felt like our I felt like a
- 0:42Speaker 2: week ago we were really coming together and things looked
- 0:45Speaker 2: really good. And then go to Rutgers and then we
- 0:47Speaker 2: beat a good team there and and something just you know,
- 0:50Speaker 2: these guys, these guys played with a hell of a
- 0:52Speaker 2: lot more confidence than we played with and they're a
- 0:55Speaker 2: good ball club. I think, you know, they were elevated
- 0:57Speaker 2: to great at times because of that confidence. They were
- 1:00Speaker 2: or they were excellent, and so we had we Yeah,
- 1:03Speaker 2: Jackson thankfully got one somehow through that win. I mean,
- 1:05Speaker 2: I didn't think anything was gonna have a chance. If
- 1:08Speaker 2: that's a normal day, it might go five hundred feet,
- 1:10Speaker 2: because that's he needed all of it to And it's
- 1:13Speaker 2: still I think it was almost you know, we didn't
- 1:15Speaker 2: know it was gone until we saw it disappear behind
- 1:18Speaker 2: the wall. But he wants to be up in those situations.
- 1:21Speaker 2: We don't have enough guys who want to be up
- 1:23Speaker 2: in those situations. We need to find more guys who
- 1:25Speaker 2: want to be up in those situations. But Jackson all
- 1:28Speaker 2: year has relished the moment, the big moment, and you know,
- 1:32Speaker 2: it's it's I was just glad that it was him
- 1:34Speaker 2: in the box at that point. You know, he had
- 1:36Speaker 2: he had an opportunity yesterday or the day before with
- 1:39Speaker 2: the bases loaded and didn't cash in. And today, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 2: today he had it and he made the most of it.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Jim, you've mentioned when this team falls behind, there's just
- 1:47Speaker 1: something about this team that has, you know, more times
- 1:49Speaker 1: than not, not able to come back here. What's the mindset?
- 1:52Speaker 1: Suddenly Ferguson right out of the box lines went a
- 1:55Speaker 1: home run and Little then leads off the second. Does
- 1:58Speaker 1: the mindset change? Did your or did you feel a
- 2:01Speaker 1: change for your guys in the way they took their
- 2:03Speaker 1: at bats?
- 2:04Speaker 2: Well, no, unfortunately I didn't. I mean it the malay Well,
- 2:08Speaker 2: I shouldn't say that. I mean, I think if if
- 2:10Speaker 2: we see you know, I called called them up in
- 2:14Speaker 2: the fifth or sixth, It's like, guys, I know, it
- 2:15Speaker 2: seems insurmountable. It's two runs. It's two runs. And I'm
- 2:18Speaker 2: being you know, sarcastic, which I probably shouldn't be doing
- 2:21Speaker 2: in the middle of a game. But it's just like,
- 2:23Speaker 2: how many times are we going to do this to
- 2:25Speaker 2: ourselves where we squeeze the heck out of the bat,
- 2:27Speaker 2: or we're going out of the zone, we're swinging it.
- 2:29Speaker 2: We're getting ourselves out today. Oh oh, counts at a
- 2:33Speaker 2: record pace, advantage counts weak contact. I think we hit
- 2:39Speaker 2: maybe three ball four balls hard. That's to be a
- 2:41Speaker 2: little bit generous. I mean walked here had one, can
- 2:44Speaker 2: Sell had one, Jackson Marshall had one, and the cam
- 2:47Speaker 2: Riggie had a solid one to the left center early.
- 2:50Speaker 2: But other than that, it was it was non existent.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I mean, it was it was pretty awful. Yeah, that
- 2:55Speaker 2: was at four hard contacts. So even our first hit
- 2:58Speaker 2: was soft up the middle. So it's it's got to change.
- 3:01Speaker 2: We got to get in the cages. And I don't
- 3:04Speaker 2: think it's it's all that much mechanical. There's a couple
- 3:07Speaker 2: of guys struggling with the mechanics right now. Polomine he
- 3:09Speaker 2: needs some work, but mostly it's mental and that's really
- 3:13Speaker 2: hard to fix. So maybe we need a little break
- 3:16Speaker 2: away from each other. And and we're not gonna have
- 3:18Speaker 2: the full team together until Wednesday. We'll do some some
- 3:21Speaker 2: lifting Tuesday. Wednesday, we'll have split squads on Tuesday, so
- 3:26Speaker 2: I won't have them all back to Wednesday. Maybe they
- 3:28Speaker 2: need a break from us too. I don't know, it's
- 3:30Speaker 2: it's uh but we got nine when we got uh
- 3:34Speaker 2: seven left in the regular season. That's all we're guaranteed,
- 3:37Speaker 2: and you got to make the most of those. And
- 3:38Speaker 2: then the IRA They ironic part is that we still
- 3:43Speaker 2: have our goals in front of us. You know, you
- 3:45Speaker 2: can still have a chance at a Big East regular
- 3:47Speaker 2: season championship. And then obviously you know we got to
- 3:50Speaker 2: qualify for PRASCO and and and winning the biggest Tournament's
- 3:54Speaker 2: the only way that we're going to get to play
- 3:56Speaker 2: in June. So you know, those things are still in
- 3:59Speaker 2: front of us, and can't lose sight of that and
- 4:01Speaker 2: can't get negative. We've got to keep keep plugging away,
- 4:03Speaker 2: keep coaching these guys and hopefully something clicks. I've seen
- 4:06Speaker 2: us play with confidence. I thought last weekend it was there,
- 4:10Speaker 2: you know, and then this weekend we take a step back.
- 4:12Speaker 2: So hopefully a little break I'll do some good.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Jim thoughts on pitching today, al Ra Podvar battled once
- 4:18Speaker 1: again as you would expect, gave us six and two thirds.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Evan Hamburger hasn't pitched a ton this year. He was
- 4:23Speaker 1: effective and then shot going a bat break in the
- 4:25Speaker 1: ninth inning with that fly ball the right field in
- 4:27Speaker 1: hill Man's land. But your bullpen was good today.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah, we're in no doubles there, and we knew as
- 4:32Speaker 2: soon as it went up that was a trouble that
- 4:35Speaker 2: ball was going to fall or had a good chance
- 4:37Speaker 2: to fall, because we've got Polomini pretty much on the
- 4:40Speaker 2: warning track there and we've got to prevent the double.
- 4:43Speaker 2: We wind up giving up a double, but you'd rather
- 4:45Speaker 2: have it like that. Than than over their heads. So
- 4:49Speaker 2: it's one of those things like prevent defense in football,
- 4:51Speaker 2: sometimes it prevents you from winning. But you know, but
- 4:55Speaker 2: I thought, yeah, the pitchers did a fantastic job. They
- 4:57Speaker 2: were excellent, and they you know, the starting pitching just
- 4:59Speaker 2: been herring us for weeks and weeks. Now, Pud was pud.
- 5:03Speaker 2: You know, he didn't he bent, but he but he
- 5:06Speaker 2: didn't break. And you know those two cheapies, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 2: they don't go out on a normal day, which you
- 5:10Speaker 2: gotta be able to pitch inside. I thought he did
- 5:12Speaker 2: a better job of that, with the exception of those
- 5:14Speaker 2: two that got out. I thought you got in pretty
- 5:17Speaker 2: well on their hitters and made him uncomfortable. And you know,
- 5:20Speaker 2: it's one of those days at Elliott Ballpark where a
- 5:22Speaker 2: wind was going to dictate how everybody was pitching. They
- 5:24Speaker 2: tried to pitch us in the right handed hitters in
- 5:27Speaker 2: and had some pretty good success doing that too. So
- 5:30Speaker 2: you pitched to the ballpark, he pitched to the wind,
- 5:32Speaker 2: and fortunately our our guy just got one out, uh
- 5:36Speaker 2: and in the right spot. That was it all right? Right,
- 5:40Speaker 2: Hamburger was excellent. You've been waiting on Evan Hamburger. Evan
- 5:43Speaker 2: Hamburger in the preseason was our most dominant pitcher. I
- 5:47Speaker 2: mean he he absolutely shoved against our own bats. I
- 5:50Speaker 2: mean he was just electric. His stuff was unhittable, and
- 5:54Speaker 2: he was super hittable in the early season, and he
- 5:58Speaker 2: kind of he didn't make some he was kind of
- 6:00Speaker 2: buried back there. He's starting to emerge now as a
- 6:03Speaker 2: lefty specialist. But then his stuff looks so sharp that
- 6:06Speaker 2: we want to leave him, you know, for Curloss. And
- 6:08Speaker 2: then it was like, man, did we just stay with
- 6:10Speaker 2: him because it looks like he's got it? And then
- 6:11Speaker 2: I just thought it was time. If we were going
- 6:13Speaker 2: to lose it, I want to lose it with Shaw
- 6:14Speaker 2: on the mound and not have Evan in that spot.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Have Evan leave with a positive taste in his mouth
- 6:20Speaker 2: and something really good that you know, now hopefully he
- 6:22Speaker 2: can build on that we're going to need. We've been
- 6:24Speaker 2: looking for guys out of that bullpen to help and
- 6:27Speaker 2: now Evan is one of those guys that can help us.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Very good. Well, we will see you. Dibbs is coming
- 6:31Speaker 1: to do his show on the twelfth before Northeastern, and
- 6:34Speaker 1: then we'll be here for two of the final three
- 6:36Speaker 1: with the Villanova, So good luck next weekend, good all right,
- 6:39Speaker 1: Thanks Bob, appreciated, Jim, Thank you, sir,
