Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, I'm Alex Moore. I'm from the Lathoms. We're coming
- 0:04Speaker 1: on tour around Australia and that which was very excited
- 0:07Speaker 1: about and were put on a very good show. So
- 0:12Speaker 1: don't miss out while we're there because you never know,
- 0:14Speaker 1: might never come back if you.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Well, that's that's the thready favorite i've heard one. Brother,
- 0:19Speaker 2: Thanks for.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Times you say the Lathams will be heading to Australia
- 0:26Speaker 3: for the first time very surely for running shows starting
- 0:29Speaker 3: in Freeman long time the eighth. Then you get Brisbane
- 0:31Speaker 3: and Sydney, wind up in Melbourne on the twelve, so
- 0:34Speaker 3: not far away man.
- 0:35Speaker 2: You get packed and ready to go.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I'm ready to go. I'm not packed though, I'd probably
- 0:42Speaker 1: like you said, I'd probably just turn off in a
- 0:44Speaker 1: perfle it flops and some shots and figure figure something
- 0:47Speaker 1: else that afterwards.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Let that pasty white body loose in the streets. Brother.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the one.
- 0:54Speaker 3: So, as we mentioned before, like this is going to
- 0:56Speaker 3: be your first time ever to Australia, so the obvious
- 0:59Speaker 3: question is how and why have you avoided us for
- 1:02Speaker 3: the last seven years.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Well, we've not been avoiding Whi's just it's never been
- 1:08Speaker 1: It's never been possible for us, really, but we've amazingly
- 1:14Speaker 1: we've got the opportunity to go over now and we're
- 1:18Speaker 1: very very excited about it, very lucky as well to
- 1:23Speaker 1: go over and play our music in different territories. It's
- 1:27Speaker 1: it's it's it's what we've been striving for. It's the
- 1:30Speaker 1: dream to push it fire and wide. So it's very
- 1:34Speaker 1: exciting as well. Very exciting.
- 1:36Speaker 3: And when you go to a place for the first time,
- 1:38Speaker 3: like yeah here in Asia, like do you do research
- 1:41Speaker 3: and chat with people that have been here before to
- 1:43Speaker 3: find out what to expect or just coming told.
- 1:45Speaker 1: And have it most majority of the time because obviously
- 1:50Speaker 1: most of the places we're visited, we're visited very young,
- 1:53Speaker 1: so we just kind of got thrust into it and
- 1:56Speaker 1: it we just just kind of experienced it as it was,
- 1:59Speaker 1: And I think that was a good thing because I've
- 2:02Speaker 1: learned about different places from my own perspective, not what
- 2:08Speaker 1: people might have made a stereotype of or kind of
- 2:12Speaker 1: like your expectations, and that we just kind of got
- 2:16Speaker 1: thrust into it. So I'm I'm kind of into that.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I just I just want to go and speak to
- 2:22Speaker 1: people that live there and see how just see how
- 2:24Speaker 1: he's living that, see what see what the differences are?
- 2:27Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah, what are.
- 2:30Speaker 2: You expecting from Australian? Perhaps might I give you a chip?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Now we're pretty rarey.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I was expecting that. I was expecting. I feel like,
- 2:41Speaker 1: I feel like you'd get a good crack out of
- 2:43Speaker 1: a crowd in Australia. There won't be any kind of
- 2:46Speaker 1: Sometimes when you go it's it's quite the crowd feels
- 2:50Speaker 1: like they just they shouldn't say or do anything and
- 2:54Speaker 1: just let the band do whatever. But I feel like
- 2:56Speaker 1: in Australia he'll be a bit more like engaging. So
- 3:00Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see.
- 3:02Speaker 2: The wet side of that is, we don't know what
- 3:04Speaker 2: to expect from you. Guys. Are rights through a typical
- 3:07Speaker 2: live show from the Ladens?
- 3:10Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think there is a typical one.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I think it's it's very specific to each place. I
- 3:21Speaker 1: think the main core of it is always the same.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It's always we do our jobs properly, and we do
- 3:28Speaker 1: our jobs well, We engage with the crowd, we make
- 3:31Speaker 1: sure everybody's got to add a good time and a
- 3:33Speaker 1: safe time as well. But the makeup around it and
- 3:40Speaker 1: the thrills, and that's always different because you never really
- 3:43Speaker 1: know what's going to happen. I'm a bit I'm a
- 3:47Speaker 1: bit mad me, so I can switch. I can switch
- 3:51Speaker 1: quite quickly. So I think you never know what to expect,
- 3:56Speaker 1: never know what to expect.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Just say someone's in treat but they're not quite sure
- 4:01Speaker 3: whether they want to go or some bloke is missus
- 4:03Speaker 3: is dragging in more voce versa. What three songs to
- 4:06Speaker 3: your should they listen to in order to get ready.
- 4:07Speaker 2: For what thing? And experience?
- 4:10Speaker 1: Oh? I mean when when when we come over, we'll
- 4:17Speaker 1: be we'll be firing and also and there's like so
- 4:19Speaker 1: it'll be quite heavy, but we do have that softer deside.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But what what what is all like?
- 4:26Speaker 2: Do you like?
- 4:26Speaker 1: The more you like a bit more faulty song garde?
- 4:31Speaker 2: Right?
- 4:31Speaker 1: Well, easy, Then I'd listen to say my Name, I'd
- 4:36Speaker 1: listen from album two. I'd listen to No Direction from
- 4:39Speaker 1: album three and Artificial Screens from album one. There they
- 4:46Speaker 1: go all three there.
- 4:47Speaker 3: That was more for me, mate, because I'm going to
- 4:49Speaker 3: come along and I don't know any music, So that
- 4:50Speaker 3: was a personal question. I love the way you've injected
- 4:56Speaker 3: yourselves into the tour more too, by naming it the
- 4:59Speaker 3: Wigan and bos I got a trackle with me on that.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that was that was a stroke of genius from
- 5:05Speaker 1: from Scott there that.
- 5:07Speaker 3: You don't even set yourselves up there like you're gonna
- 5:09Speaker 3: have to have a little segment where you're all dress
- 5:11Speaker 3: up as your favorite Wizard of Oz character, just just
- 5:13Speaker 3: for one song at.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Least nice, I'll be the tin man.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I want to go back to the start of the
- 5:22Speaker 3: band when he's formed in twenty eighteen, mate, like, what
- 5:25Speaker 3: was the musical climate like back then they gave birth
- 5:27Speaker 3: to the band and where did you fit in initially?
- 5:32Speaker 1: He's their personal life.
- 5:33Speaker 3: And actually just want the musical climate, like, what was
- 5:36Speaker 3: the scene like that the major guys.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Well, there was a there was a few kind of
- 5:44Speaker 1: like bands knocking about like of our Age, but nothing
- 5:51Speaker 1: was nothing was really like happening that much. No one
- 5:56Speaker 1: really knew about the scene in Wigan unless she was
- 5:59Speaker 1: in Whig And I think obviously because we're so close
- 6:04Speaker 1: to that Liverpool and Manchester and that the big city takeover,
- 6:09Speaker 1: so not we we we kind of was at the
- 6:12Speaker 1: forthfront of making bringing like a scene back out of
- 6:17Speaker 1: Wigan because there's always been great musicians there and we've
- 6:22Speaker 1: got quite a colorful history of music and Wigan. But
- 6:27Speaker 1: at the time it felt like nothing was really happening,
- 6:31Speaker 1: so we kind of we kind of just rolled with it.
- 6:34Speaker 3: And the story of how you start it's pretty cool
- 6:36Speaker 3: to me, man, like you all got placed in the
- 6:38Speaker 3: same group while attending in stage school for the music project,
- 6:42Speaker 3: Like you just don't hear that thing happened, and ever
- 6:44Speaker 3: tells a story by that.
- 6:46Speaker 1: So obviously because we're musicians, we're not we're not very academic,
- 6:55Speaker 1: We're not like I'm I just floated by me. I
- 7:00Speaker 1: don't really know how I got through it all, but
- 7:04Speaker 1: I ended up coming through it, and there was there
- 7:07Speaker 1: was very little opportunity, and I knew, I knew I
- 7:12Speaker 1: wanted to do something creative. I knew I wanted to
- 7:15Speaker 1: do something with a guitar, but I just didn't really
- 7:19Speaker 1: know what and I didn't I didn't really see an
- 7:22Speaker 1: opportunity to do anything with it. And then I left
- 7:27Speaker 1: a leaf loot got past you mid door and I'd
- 7:31Speaker 1: already tried to go through college for a year. What
- 7:34Speaker 1: we both mutually decided that I should leave. So that
- 7:40Speaker 1: was that kind of a waste of a year. So
- 7:42Speaker 1: I was like, what am I going to do here?
- 7:43Speaker 1: And then the leaflet came through How I went to
- 7:46Speaker 1: the college and it was it was in its infancy,
- 7:49Speaker 1: so it was it was kind of wasn't necessarily mainstream
- 7:53Speaker 1: or anything, which I liked because I didn't want to
- 7:56Speaker 1: be I don't I don't want to be in any
- 7:59Speaker 1: kind of just want to be doing my own thing.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I don't want to be tied into anything. I want
- 8:04Speaker 1: to be doing my own thing and living my own life.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And that was helpful. And then just I got a
- 8:13Speaker 1: passion from from music and then we started playing pubs.
- 8:16Speaker 1: We got, like you said, we got put into a
- 8:19Speaker 1: little project together and we just we all liked it.
- 8:23Speaker 1: We all clicked, and then that was it. We just
- 8:25Speaker 1: was carried on playing pubs and then got like a
- 8:29Speaker 1: bit of a name for ourselves and it just kept
- 8:31Speaker 1: growing from there.
- 8:32Speaker 2: So the band was a pretty interestant success.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Pro like your first two albums, How Beautiful Life Could
- 8:37Speaker 3: Be and from a little bit more, both debuted and
- 8:40Speaker 3: number one on the UK chart. So did that only
- 8:42Speaker 3: success surprise you to an external or you're always confident
- 8:45Speaker 3: that you.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Had to take.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I mean, you have you have to you have to
- 8:50Speaker 1: believe in yourself, and you have to be confident with
- 8:51Speaker 1: your abilities if you if you if you work hard
- 8:54Speaker 1: enough at them. But isn't it wasn't It wasn't something
- 9:02Speaker 1: that I was going to calculate success on whether we
- 9:07Speaker 1: got whether it was in the charts or whatever it was.
- 9:11Speaker 1: It was amazing, Like and to do it two times
- 9:14Speaker 1: from the debut and and and the second, I think,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I mean there's probably some kind of statistic there that's
- 9:22Speaker 1: pretty pretty good, like, but yeah, I think it's more
- 9:28Speaker 1: so the the the fan power that we have whenever
- 9:33Speaker 1: we whenever we gain a farm. They're there for life.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Then people are people get really people people feel strongly
- 9:42Speaker 1: about us for whatever reason. So I think that's that's
- 9:48Speaker 1: like judge it really but again, it is amazing to
- 9:52Speaker 1: think people are rooting for us.
- 9:54Speaker 3: The bed is bright, that is sore downhill now though,
- 9:57Speaker 3: because your third help and Better does not define any
- 9:59Speaker 3: managed a number three?
- 10:01Speaker 2: What are you to do? Man?
- 10:03Speaker 1: I never done. It's a Journey's a journey. Uh, And yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I definitely wouldn't measure success off the charts
- 10:14Speaker 1: these days, man, I was.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Looking through some of your photos and some of the
- 10:17Speaker 3: croyouds you've had it, they may like that's you measure
- 10:19Speaker 3: of success there, like standing in front of those people
- 10:22Speaker 3: and feeling their energy.
- 10:23Speaker 1: That's absolutely cage. Absolutely.
- 10:28Speaker 3: So you got any messages for Australian fans pray that
- 10:31Speaker 3: that might be coming along and see ye.
- 10:37Speaker 1: H, It depends depends what kind of person you are.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Well, most of them are like me eaucept better looking.
- 10:46Speaker 1: On. Well, yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing everybody. I'm
- 10:52Speaker 1: looking forward. I just want to chat. I just want
- 10:54Speaker 1: to have conversations and just learn about stuff. I'm like
- 11:00Speaker 1: a sponge and I want to I want to suk
- 11:02Speaker 1: in as much as I can before I clock off.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Now, before you clock off from this interviews, bro, I've
- 11:07Speaker 3: got a new segment I've introduced and I'm gonna throw.
- 11:10Speaker 2: It's called photo bombs.
- 11:11Speaker 3: So basically, I'll go on through your social media and
- 11:13Speaker 3: I'll come up with a few photos that I want
- 11:15Speaker 3: to talk a bit more about. The first one I've
- 11:19Speaker 3: found is this, Well, there's got to be a good
- 11:23Speaker 3: story behind that.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, there that so we have We've got a
- 11:32Speaker 1: little unit and that where we where we recorded our
- 11:35Speaker 1: were we recorded the demos far album three. We called
- 11:43Speaker 1: it Shabby Road, and you can imagine, you can imagine
- 11:46Speaker 1: what state it was like if it was calling a
- 11:48Speaker 1: shabby road and there was a small it wasn't a
- 11:51Speaker 1: major thing. It We started it and it was fine,
- 11:54Speaker 1: but there was a small little kind of fire going
- 11:57Speaker 1: on at one point. But it was started, started it
- 12:02Speaker 1: quick and that and it's all good. Everything, everything's safe
- 12:06Speaker 1: and that again, know, but yeah, yeah, there was.
- 12:16Speaker 2: That was. That's one I've got for you.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Like the photo on the left is a full foight
- 12:19Speaker 3: over the one on the riders been enhanced for pleasure,
- 12:23Speaker 3: but this does it's got class like preparation. One open
- 12:27Speaker 3: one in the hand and a full one in the
- 12:28Speaker 3: back pocket. That's that's why Australians are gonna.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Love you guys.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Right, Okay, so you like scalleys man.
- 12:35Speaker 2: We love beer.
- 12:38Speaker 3: But he's walking there like they got one in the
- 12:40Speaker 3: back pocket, one in the hand, and it looks like
- 12:42Speaker 3: you're in the street.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Well it was walking over the stage because the venue
- 12:49Speaker 1: was in a different building, so he was just walking
- 12:51Speaker 1: over the stage. And he's got he's got a he's
- 12:54Speaker 1: got a pre beer. He's got a pre gig beer
- 12:57Speaker 1: and then a during in his pocket, and then we've
- 12:59Speaker 1: got a coup on stage.
- 13:01Speaker 3: So look look them through the photos to fight once
- 13:04Speaker 3: for this Rolo. I actually struggled to find a photo
- 13:07Speaker 3: of anyone in the band without a beer in their hands.
- 13:11Speaker 3: That's like a rock and roll brother for a span.
- 13:15Speaker 1: No, we're not as cool as you might think, Matte.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Oh well, I reckon. He's a go all right brother.
- 13:19Speaker 3: But you will be here in October startying the eighth
- 13:22Speaker 3: in free Battle. Say everything I've read, seen and heard
- 13:25Speaker 3: about you guys sounds like fun.
- 13:27Speaker 2: So I'll catch you at the Brisbane show.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Beautiful, nice one, Matte, looking forward to seeing it.
