- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Finnish with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. Hello everyone. It is so good to be back with you. Lucas: Last week we talked about planting seeds and watering plants. We learned how to put seeds in the ground. Luna: Yes. And now we are going deeper into the garden work. It feels very peaceful. Lucas: It really does. But sometimes plants need more than just water. Sometimes they need trimming. Luna: Oh, right. Pruning. I have too many branches everywhere. My garden looks messy. Lucas: So today we will learn how to talk about cutting branches. The phrase is 'Leikkaan oksia'. Luna: 'Leikkaan oksia'. Let me try that. Leikkaan oksia. Lucas: Perfect. 'Leikkaan' means I cut. 'Oksia' means branches or twigs. So 'I am cutting branches'. Luna: Okay. Leikkaan oksia. That sounds strong. Like I am working hard. Lucas: It is hard work. But look at this plant here. It needs help. Luna: Oh no. Is it dying? It looks very dry and brown. Lucas: It is thirsty. In Finnish, we say 'Vesi on tarpeen' when something needs water. Luna: 'Vesi on tarpeen'. Vesi is water. Tarpeen is needed. So 'Water is needed'. Lucas: Exactly. Or simply 'The plant needs water'. Let's say it together. Vesi on tarpeen. Luna: Vesi on tarpeen. Okay. I hear it. Water is needed. Got it. Lucas: If you don't give it water, what happens? Luna: The flower dies. Right? Kukka kuolee. Lucas: Yes. 'Kukka' is flower. 'Kuolee' is dies. So 'Kukka kuolee'. Luna: Kukka kuolee. Oh, that sounds sad. I do not want my flowers to die. Lucas: Neither do I. That is why we must act fast. Give them water. Trim the dead parts. Luna: But wait. Just water isn't always enough. Some plants are weak. They need food. Lucas: Good point. Fertilizer. In Finnish, we say 'Laitan lannoitetta' when I add fertilizer. Luna: 'Laitan lannoitetta'. Laitan means I put. Lannoitetta is fertilizer. So 'I am putting fertilizer'. Lucas: Correct. It helps them grow stronger. Now, think about those seeds we planted last time. Luna: Yes. Are they growing yet? I check every day. Lucas: If they are sprouting, we say 'Siemenet itävät'. Luna: 'Siemenet itävät'. Siemenet is seeds. Itävät is sprouting. So 'Seeds are sprouting'. Lucas: Yes. It is a beautiful moment. Small green shoots coming out of the dirt. Luna: I love that feeling. Finally seeing progress. Siemenet itävät. Yes! Lucas: Let's review all five phrases quickly. First: 'Leikkaan oksia'. Luna: Leikkaan oksia. Cutting branches. Lucas: Second: 'Vesi on tarpeen'. Luna: Vesi on tarpeen. Water is needed. Lucas: Third: 'Kukka kuolee'. Luna: Kukka kuolee. Flower dies. Lucas: Fourth: 'Laitan lannoitetta'. Luna: Laitan lannoitetta. I put fertilizer. Lucas: Fifth: 'Siemenet itävät'. Luna: Siemenet itävät. Seeds are sprouting. Lucas: Great job. You are learning so much about nature words. Luna: Thank you, Lucas. It feels useful. I can use these at home. Lucas: Before we go, I want to mention something important about the show. It really means a lot to us. Now let's get back to gardening. Lucas: Right. Back to the garden. Imagine you see a tall branch sticking out. Luna: Yes. What do you do? Lucas: You take your shears. You say 'Leikkaan oksia'. Snip. It falls down. Luna: That was easy. Now look at the pot next to it. The leaves are drooping. Lucas: Ah. What is wrong with that one? Luna: It looks dry. I think 'Vesi on tarpeen'. It needs water badly. Lucas: Agreed. Pour some water. Wait a minute. Check again. Luna: Okay. Still looking bad. Oh no. 'Kukka kuolee'. It is turning brown. Lucas: Don't panic. Maybe it just needs nutrients. Try adding some food. Luna: Okay. I mix it in. I say 'Laitan lannoitetta'. There. Done. Lucas: Good. Now let's check the seed tray from last month. Remember? Luna: Yes. The little green dots. Are they ready? Lucas: Look closely. Yes! Tiny stems. 'Siemenet itävät'. They are sprouting. Luna: Wow. Look at that. 'Siemenet itävät'. It is amazing how fast they grow. Lucas: It is magic. But you must keep watching them. Keep watering. Luna: Always. 'Vesi on tarpeen'. Never forget that one. Lucas: Exactly. And if a branch gets too long? Luna: Then I pick up the knife. 'Leikkaan oksia'. Keep it tidy. Lucas: And if things look sad? Luna: Then I add help. 'Laitan lannoitetta'. Give them strength. Lucas: Perfect. You are becoming a true gardener in Finnish. Luna: I feel confident. These phrases fit well together. They tell a story. Lucas: They do. From planting to pruning to feeding. It is a full routine. Luna: Can we practice one more time? Fast speed? Lucas: Ready. Go. Leikkaan oksia. Luna: Leikkaan oksia. Lucas: Vesi on tarpeen. Luna: Vesi on tarpeen. Lucas: Kukka kuolee. Luna: Kukka kuolee. Lucas: Laitan lannoitetta. Luna: Laitan lannoitetta. Lucas: Siemenet itävät. Luna: Siemenet itävät. Lucas: Excellent pronunciation. Your rhythm is improving. Luna: Thanks. I am getting used to the flow. It feels natural now. Lucas: Keep practicing these until we meet again. Put them to use in your own garden. Luna: I will. Even if I only have a few pots on my balcony. I can still speak Finnish there. Lucas: That is the spirit. Language is everywhere. Even in the dirt. Luna: Especially in the dirt. Thanks for teaching me, Lucas. Lucas: My pleasure, Luna. And thank you for listening. Luna: See you next time. Bye. Lucas: Bye.
