- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester.
- 0:02Speaker 2: And Matt Flynn. Okay, here we go.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Where the plays get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Dude, they said I got to come off the bench.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench, live from the Raising
- 0:12Speaker 1: Cane Studio.
- 0:12Speaker 3: All right, welcome back here.
- 0:23Speaker 4: Off the Bench, hour number two on a football Friday.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Off the Bench, live from Rouse's. Rouse's Market here on Burbank,
- 0:32Speaker 4: coming at you. Before we get into hour number two,
- 0:35Speaker 4: I want to tell you about our good friends over
- 0:37Speaker 4: at Caterus. When you think about Louisiana, you think about energy.
- 0:40Speaker 4: And one company helping shape the future is Caterus. Caterus,
- 0:44Speaker 4: developing the Commonwealth LNG Export Facility over there in Cameron Parish.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Connecting American natural gas with customers around the world.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Now under construction.
- 0:52Speaker 4: After reaching its final investment decision in 2026, the project
- 0:56Speaker 4: represents a major investment in Louisiana's future. But it's about
- 1:00Speaker 4: more than exporting energy. It's about creating jobs. It's about
- 1:04Speaker 4: supporting the local businesses, strengthening communities, and reinforcing Louisiana's position
- 1:09Speaker 4: as one of the world's leading energy hubs. Through its
- 1:11Speaker 4: natural gas production and the Commonwealth LNG Project, Cataris is
- 1:15Speaker 4: helping build an integrated energy platform That connects domestic resources
- 1:21Speaker 4: with the growing global demand. As construction continues on Louisiana's
- 1:25Speaker 4: Gulf Coast, Caterus is proud to invest in American energy,
- 1:29Speaker 4: American workers, and a stronger economic future. Caterus, connecting Louisiana
- 1:34Speaker 4: energy to the world.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Great job, Caterus. Round of applause. Well done. Well done.
- 1:48Speaker 5: So it looks like we got a 2014 college football
- 1:50Speaker 5: playoff coming up. Looks like that's going to be the deal.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:57Speaker 5: I've been flopping like a politician on this because I
- 2:00Speaker 5: know it's coming down the tracks and I know it's
- 2:02Speaker 5: going to happen. And I probably still feel like this way,
- 2:07Speaker 5: but I'm like, all right, we go from two to four.
- 2:08Speaker 2: All right, let's see how it works out. We'll go decade.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Then we go from four to 12. All right, cool.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Let's see how it works out. It's like, no, let's
- 2:15Speaker 2: just give it like three years. Hey, what?
- 2:17Speaker 5: Like we gave four teams 10 years. Like let's make
- 2:20Speaker 5: sure that we want to do this. And I still
- 2:24Speaker 5: think like adding 24, that's a lot.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And what kind of matchups are we going to get?
- 2:31Speaker 5: But I do think I've softened like a little bit
- 2:33Speaker 5: on this take because doing NFL every day now, I'm like, well,
- 2:37Speaker 5: 14 of.
- 2:37Speaker 2: The 32 make it. Right. Every single year. So 24
- 2:41Speaker 2: of 138.
- 2:45Speaker 5: You can be like, yeah, but obviously those teams are
- 2:47Speaker 5: closer to each other.
- 2:49Speaker 2: And just hear me out a little bit.
- 2:51Speaker 5: It's not the same in college football.
- 2:53Speaker 2: It's not as close as far as the teams. But
- 2:57Speaker 2: it's getting closer.
- 2:59Speaker 5: We're getting as close to the NFL as we've ever
- 3:01Speaker 5: been before with teams that historically have not been great.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Well, now they're competitive.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Teams that have always been great, now they're kind of
- 3:07Speaker 5: a little bit middle of the row here and there.
- 3:09Speaker 5: And they've got to do something special to be able
- 3:11Speaker 5: to elevate their play and We're getting more parity than
- 3:14Speaker 5: we've ever gotten before in college football. It is getting
- 3:17Speaker 5: more pro-like because, well, there's free agency. Hell, there's basically trades.
- 3:23Speaker 5: I actually don't think it's the worst thing in the world.
- 3:26Speaker 5: And I have been on the complete other side of this,
- 3:30Speaker 5: but if it's going to happen, I'm talking myself through it.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I'm like, okay, well, if you're going to have 14
- 3:36Speaker 5: of 32– if you have 24 of 138, and it
- 3:40Speaker 5: continues to go this way, it continues to be as
- 3:43Speaker 5: close to the NFL as we've ever seen it before,
- 3:47Speaker 5: maybe by the time, maybe a couple years down the road,
- 3:50Speaker 5: maybe it's something where 24 teams are very close to
- 3:53Speaker 5: each other and we get a really good.
- 3:55Speaker 2: College football playoff. Yeah, so you're right.
- 4:00Speaker 4: There is way more parity in college football. We really
- 4:05Speaker 4: didn't know which direction It would go with the whole
- 4:10Speaker 4: NIL world, with players getting paid. We kind of thought
- 4:14Speaker 4: it might get top-heavy, but it has given a lot
- 4:16Speaker 4: more parity out there. Now, I don't know if it's
- 4:18Speaker 4: the best parity in the world. I talked about that.
- 4:20Speaker 4: I can't remember if it was this week or last week.
- 4:24Speaker 4: But the NIL, the new NIL world of people changing
- 4:28Speaker 4: every single year, roster turnover, has given parity, but not
- 4:32Speaker 4: necessarily because smaller schools are catching up.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I think.
- 4:36Speaker 4: The bigger schools are playing worse football. I think the
- 4:39Speaker 4: quality of football is lower than it has been. Now,
- 4:43Speaker 4: I say that watching the first half of the season.
- 4:46Speaker 4: It looks like you just got a lot of teams
- 4:48Speaker 4: out there still trying.
- 4:49Speaker 2: To figure each other out. Now, at the end of
- 4:50Speaker 2: the season, we'll see what happens there.
- 4:52Speaker 4: But I've turned on the TV every single Saturday all
- 4:56Speaker 4: year long, and I've watched bad football play. being played
- 4:59Speaker 4: by good teams or apparently good teams or at least
- 5:01Speaker 4: the blue bloods i've watched bad football because you got
- 5:05Speaker 4: again you got a roster full of brand new people
- 5:08Speaker 4: that have never played with each other like in the
- 5:11Speaker 4: professional levels you can do it but you're not getting
- 5:13Speaker 4: the whole roster turning over our whole defense our whole
- 5:16Speaker 4: offense like you like we got here yeah like you're
- 5:20Speaker 4: not getting that like a complete hall like new hall
- 5:23Speaker 4: every single year so.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah, there's parity.
- 5:26Speaker 4: I don't know if the parity is the best, but
- 5:28Speaker 4: we're not going to change that. But what you can
- 5:30Speaker 4: do with parity is get a bigger playoff, and that's
- 5:34Speaker 4: what they've done.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I agree with you, though. It is weird. It's weird timing, though.
- 5:37Speaker 2: It's like 12 for so little amount of time. Yeah.
- 5:40Speaker 2: 12 I thought was a good number. Do you know
- 5:43Speaker 2: any details? I would like to see it breathe a
- 5:44Speaker 2: little bit.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Is there any details that have come out with it,
- 5:46Speaker 4: like these are automatic qualifiers? Like if you win this conference,
- 5:50Speaker 4: you're in. If you win that conference, you're in, blah, blah, blah.
- 5:52Speaker 4: That's when it gets to me. The automatic qualifying thing
- 5:55Speaker 4: is good. You can argue and shake your fist at
- 5:59Speaker 4: the group of people, the selection committee. But even at 24,
- 6:04Speaker 4: there's going to be a selection unless there's concrete rules
- 6:10Speaker 4: about getting in. And maybe there is. I just don't
- 6:12Speaker 4: know it. But I was looking for that yesterday when
- 6:15Speaker 4: I saw it.
- 6:16Speaker 5: I didn't see any other details. That will be fine-tuned,
- 6:20Speaker 5: and that will come out. They'll figure that out.
- 6:22Speaker 2: That matters.
- 6:23Speaker 5: That definitely matters. How do you get in the playoff?
- 6:27Speaker 5: And then Conehead49 inside the chat on 3 said it best.
- 6:31Speaker 5: If you want the playoffs, watch the NFL. Keep college
- 6:33Speaker 5: sports independent. The problem with that is, though, we've gone
- 6:36Speaker 5: way past that already. That's not even in the rearview
- 6:40Speaker 5: mirror anymore. That's how far we've gone down the road.
- 6:43Speaker 5: That's the problem.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Everybody yesterday being like, protect the sport I love. I
- 6:47Speaker 2: get it.
- 6:48Speaker 5: I understand that. But we left that a long time ago.
- 6:51Speaker 5: That ship sailed many, many years ago. So that's where
- 6:54Speaker 5: I'm at. I would love for it to be back
- 6:56Speaker 5: like it used to be. And when you lost a
- 6:59Speaker 5: regular season game, you were absolutely crushed because you're like,
- 7:03Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 7:04Speaker 2: If we lose one more, then we're done.
- 7:06Speaker 4: To me, that's the thing that made college football special
- 7:09Speaker 4: and different.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Right, but we left that years ago. When we decided
- 7:13Speaker 5: to go to four teams, really, but certainly 12, that's
- 7:17Speaker 5: already gone. I don't like it, but, again, that ship sailed.
- 7:21Speaker 5: When we played and we lost a game, it was devastating.
- 7:25Speaker 4: To me, college football is not good enough football to
- 7:30Speaker 4: not have weekly implications. The quality of it isn't good
- 7:35Speaker 4: enough to me, and that's how I watch the game.
- 7:39Speaker 4: In the NFL, the quality is such high-quality football. Yeah,
- 7:44Speaker 4: you're watching and you're building up, and I'm not the
- 7:47Speaker 4: only one that shares that opinion. Look at the viewership
- 7:49Speaker 4: compared to the NFL. But when there is implications every
- 7:55Speaker 4: single week, that's what the intrigue is. That's what the
- 7:59Speaker 4: craziness is about. That's what the college football frenzy is.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Like when you're playing in the regular season, like the
- 8:05Speaker 4: viewership is going to be even further down. But the
- 8:07Speaker 4: playoffs will be great.
- 8:09Speaker 5: And, look, this is not like I'm not championing for
- 8:12Speaker 5: 24 teams. I think we need to chill at 12
- 8:15Speaker 5: and see how it goes and see what's up more
- 8:17Speaker 5: than three years. But I can see where they're going
- 8:22Speaker 5: because in their mind they're thinking it is as close
- 8:24Speaker 5: to the NFL as it's ever been before. Those numbers
- 8:27Speaker 5: that I've kept, you know, I keep giving out. And
- 8:30Speaker 5: I get where they're going to be, 24 to 138.
- 8:32Speaker 5: More teams got to get involved. You got to learn
- 8:34Speaker 5: more teams. There's going to be more teams. So we're
- 8:37Speaker 5: going to get there. Like, that is going to happen.
- 8:40Speaker 4: I don't like the narrative about people saying that bowl
- 8:44Speaker 4: games have always meant nothing and been, like, whatever.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Like, bowl games meant a whole hell of a lot
- 8:51Speaker 2: to me. Yeah. I love bowl games. I did, too.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Are you kidding me? Fast pass in Orlando for the
- 8:57Speaker 2: Capital One Bowl?
- 8:58Speaker 5: So, I just don't like the narrative. Excuse me, we're
- 9:02Speaker 5: here for the Capital One Bowl against Iowa. This little
- 9:04Speaker 5: lanyard means we can skip to.
- 9:06Speaker 2: The front of the line, right?
- 9:07Speaker 6: What?
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yeah? Cool. We good with this?
- 9:10Speaker 4: 19-year-old working is like, I don't care, man.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Just get out of here. Just shut up. Just go away.
- 9:17Speaker 4: But, like, the narrative about the whole bowl games, like,
- 9:20Speaker 4: you know, might as well make them all playoff games.
- 9:22Speaker 4: I get it. I see that. And I see what
- 9:25Speaker 4: you're saying. But to say that bowl games have.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Never mattered is ridiculous because I loved it. I played
- 9:33Speaker 2: in them.
- 9:34Speaker 5: And it mattered a whole hell of a lot. No,
- 9:37Speaker 5: I mean, you know I'm with you. I mean, 05
- 9:39Speaker 5: Peach Bowl was huge, huge for us. It was huge
- 9:42Speaker 5: for you individually, obviously.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I mean, obviously you had a whole team that cared
- 9:48Speaker 2: for both sides of the ball because you fought afterwards.
- 9:52Speaker 2: That's true.
- 9:53Speaker 5: Like 06 against Notre Dame?
- 9:55Speaker 2: And it wasn't until recently. It wasn't until recently.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Like I had knee surgery and played like eight days
- 10:03Speaker 5: later because like I'm not missing I'm are you I'm
- 10:05Speaker 5: not missing a sugar bowl against Notre Dame are you
- 10:08Speaker 5: kidding me kidding me now and that was for like
- 10:11Speaker 5: if you won that you were going to be considered
- 10:12Speaker 5: the third best team in the country I was like
- 10:14Speaker 5: I'm like that didn't.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Matter like you got, this could be for the 32nd
- 10:18Speaker 4: best team in the country.
- 10:19Speaker 2: It was Notre Dame in my home state in the
- 10:23Speaker 2: sugar bowl. Yeah. I'm missing that.
- 10:24Speaker 4: And it's only until recently people started sitting out bowl
- 10:28Speaker 4: games to, you know, help their pro career and which
- 10:32Speaker 4: I completely understand too. But, and so like in the,
- 10:37Speaker 4: in the last 10 years, I get it. Like I
- 10:39Speaker 4: get where this has moved. I get how it's sped
- 10:41Speaker 4: up and we've all moved to this and, We moved
- 10:43Speaker 4: to 12 teams, and now we're okay with 24 teams.
- 10:46Speaker 2: That's fine. Whatever.
- 10:48Speaker 4: But, like, don't say that it never mattered because it
- 10:51Speaker 4: sure as hell did. And it's different now. I think
- 10:54Speaker 4: college football is different. And, you know, I've screamed at
- 10:57Speaker 4: the clouds enough about college football. I think college sports
- 11:00Speaker 4: in general is in a really stupid place right now.
- 11:03Speaker 4: The product on the field. That's been the argument, though.
- 11:05Speaker 4: The product on the field is still really good, so there's.
- 11:07Speaker 2: No room to complain. Up to this point in the season,
- 11:10Speaker 2: I don't think the product's been that good. Yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 4: And I'm not just saying that because LSU's lost two games.
- 11:15Speaker 4: I'm saying that I'm watching everybody. I'm watching the big boys.
- 11:17Speaker 4: I'm watching the best. Georgia's been good. Everybody else has.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Been okay.
- 11:23Speaker 4: I mean, Notre Dame, everyone thinks it's good. They hadn't
- 11:27Speaker 4: played a ranked team in 331 days.
- 11:30Speaker 5: Yeah, but that's just going to continue to trickle down.
- 11:33Speaker 5: The more as the talent gets spread around, you're not
- 11:37Speaker 5: going to have domination like you once did.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but I don't need to see bad football. I
- 11:42Speaker 2: don't need to see people run wide open everywhere and
- 11:44Speaker 2: nobody seeing them and missing throws and busting coverages and
- 11:47Speaker 2: busting assignments because all these teams are brand new every
- 11:51Speaker 2: single day.
- 11:51Speaker 4: All these coaches are brand new. Coaches are jumping shift.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Other coaches are getting hired and getting elevated. Now you've
- 11:57Speaker 4: got bad coordinators. Now you've got bad head coaches. Now
- 12:00Speaker 4: you've got brand new rosters. I mean, you've got to admit.
- 12:07Speaker 4: And viewerships now.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Hold on.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Brett in the chat, if a bowl game let me
- 12:12Speaker 5: skip the line of Guardians of Galaxy and Epcot, I'd
- 12:15Speaker 5: take that over at Natty.
- 12:20Speaker 2: That's well done.
- 12:20Speaker 5: Yeah, it was Disney, yeah. It was Disney where we just, like,
- 12:27Speaker 5: we had these lanyards. I don't even know why we
- 12:29Speaker 5: had lanyards. It was, like, our credentials to get into
- 12:32Speaker 5: the hotel. That's what it was. And we brought them,
- 12:34Speaker 5: and we're like, hey, we're at the bowl game. They
- 12:36Speaker 5: said we could, like, skip everybody. We rode every ride, like,
- 12:39Speaker 5: seven times.
- 12:40Speaker 2: It was incredible. We just flashed them real fast.
- 12:42Speaker 5: That was before they had, like, the fancy little wristbands.
- 12:45Speaker 2: They had the fancy wristbands. That was before scanning. Oh,
- 12:48Speaker 2: there was no scanning. There wasn't scanning. Hell, you still
- 12:50Speaker 2: had your... your phone on a clip on your hip.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Yeah people used to be walking past the line we
- 12:54Speaker 4: were i mean we were those college kids that you.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Know you you run into and you're like those those
- 12:59Speaker 2: turds yeah because they're oh fast pass sorry we're going
- 13:01Speaker 2: the front fast pass fast pass that was us yeah
- 13:04Speaker 2: fast pass not a big deal we did it though
- 13:06Speaker 2: yeah remember they roped us in were you with us
- 13:08Speaker 2: they roped us in during the.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Um went to disney during that week during the day
- 13:14Speaker 4: And we wanted to get the Fast Pass. We wanted
- 13:17Speaker 4: to go to the front of the line.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:18Speaker 2: But this was a different park. It wasn't as easy. Right.
- 13:20Speaker 4: And they're like, we will take you the whole day.
- 13:23Speaker 4: You can go to the front of the line. It's
- 13:24Speaker 4: on every ride. But you got to walk this float
- 13:27Speaker 4: down this parade.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yeah. It was like their daily parade they had.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:30Speaker 2: We had these floats. We're like, okay, yeah, sign us
- 13:32Speaker 2: up for that. Let's do it. So like four or
- 13:34Speaker 2: five of us. Were you with us?
- 13:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Okay.
- 13:36Speaker 4: We were roommates back then. We had to wait like
- 13:38Speaker 4: an hour.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:39Speaker 2: And, like, do this training to hold this float. And
- 13:42Speaker 2: I can't remember if it was, like, a Mickey head
- 13:43Speaker 2: or it might have been just, like.
- 13:44Speaker 4: A star or something. Like, it was a big float. Like,
- 13:46Speaker 4: it took three or four people to hold it. And
- 13:49Speaker 4: we had to practice.
- 13:50Speaker 2: We had to wait in line. It was this big parade.
- 13:52Speaker 4: And we had to walk this damn float down this
- 13:55Speaker 4: parade in Disney three days before the Capital One Bowl.
- 14:00Speaker 4: And we get there. And I think she walked us
- 14:02Speaker 4: to one ride. And then she ghosted us. She disappeared.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Yeah. So... She lied to us. They got us back. Huh?
- 14:09Speaker 2: They got us back. They got to get back on us. Yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 2: they got to get back. They heard about us. We
- 14:14Speaker 2: were infamous. Yes, Mitchell, you do hear.
- 14:17Speaker 5: 1,000 miles in the background, Hunt's playlist.
- 14:21Speaker 2: You absolutely do. Vanessa Carlton?
- 14:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:28Speaker 2: All right, Miss, give me confirmation. Yep. She was confident
- 14:31Speaker 2: in that, too. Should she be on the burnt CD tour?
- 14:33Speaker 1: No. No.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I mean, she didn't have a lot of hits, but,
- 14:36Speaker 2: I mean, she can come out for a couple songs, right?
- 14:38Speaker 4: I mean, she can play in the crowd. She can
- 14:41Speaker 4: play in the crowd for snacks. Yeah, okay, fair enough.
- 14:45Speaker 4: We're not paying her.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Last thing about the playoff. Okay. Before I move on. So, wait.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Before you say this, are you... Happy about it? I mean,
- 14:58Speaker 2: I'm not going to pretend I'm happy about it. It
- 15:00Speaker 2: didn't move the needle for me one direction or the other.
- 15:02Speaker 2: I'm saying because I knew it was coming down the track.
- 15:05Speaker 2: And if there's not rules, I don't really care. You're
- 15:07Speaker 2: still going to have a committee.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Can I just say, like, the only thing that I
- 15:09Speaker 5: want that will never happen, it can't happen, like, if
- 15:12Speaker 5: we are going to truly, like, do this, and, again,
- 15:16Speaker 5: not saying that we're asking for it or that you
- 15:18Speaker 5: have to like it. I don't really love it. But
- 15:20Speaker 5: if we are going to be something that looks more
- 15:22Speaker 5: like the NFL– There has to be some kind of
- 15:26Speaker 5: way to make everybody play somebody. We can't have teams
- 15:32Speaker 5: out here playing one ranked team, and they're fighting for
- 15:34Speaker 5: the same playoff as a team that's playing five or
- 15:37Speaker 5: six ranked teams. That, to me, is– I don't know
- 15:42Speaker 5: how you fix it because there's conferences. There's no teams
- 15:44Speaker 5: that do that.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Absolutely. There's multiple. Your favorite team does it. I don't
- 15:48Speaker 2: know how you do it.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I don't.
- 15:51Speaker 5: But that, to me, has always been the big disconnect.
- 15:53Speaker 5: As you add and you add and you add, I'm like, okay, well,
- 15:56Speaker 5: if you're not going to reward this team for being 9-3,
- 16:00Speaker 5: although they played five ranked teams, three on the road,
- 16:03Speaker 5: and this team that was 11-1 who played one ranked
- 16:05Speaker 5: team and housed the Little Sisters of the Poor, that's
- 16:09Speaker 5: what we need to figure out first.
- 16:11Speaker 2: How do we fix that? What team was that? Little
- 16:14Speaker 2: Sisters of the Poor. Okay.
- 16:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 2: All right. Little Sisters. I don't remember. I heard that
- 16:21Speaker 2: somewhere along the way, and I've used it before. I
- 16:23Speaker 2: don't really know. Let's dive into it. Directional School U.
- 16:26Speaker 2: How about that? Is that better? Little Sisters of the Poor.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Feels like something my dad said, and now I'm a
- 16:31Speaker 2: little nervous.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Did I say something bad?
- 16:37Speaker 2: God, now I lost my whole train of thought here.
- 16:40Speaker 5: Flynn, every conference should have the same amount of conference games.
- 16:47Speaker 5: And every other power conference, say it's nine, right? It's
- 16:52Speaker 5: a big number that we've talked about. Nine conference games
- 16:54Speaker 5: and one power four opponent. Every single Big Ten, SEC, ACC,
- 17:00Speaker 5: Big 12. Because teams like Indiana, actually the last three, Indiana,
- 17:05Speaker 5: Ohio State, and Michigan, the last three national champions, haven't
- 17:08Speaker 5: played a non-conference power four team.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Interesting. That uniformity has to happen.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Now, you're going to have schedule imbalance even if that
- 17:19Speaker 5: does happen because my power four opponent is going to
- 17:21Speaker 5: be Clemson and yours is going to be Purdue.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm just trying to think of like two teams.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:24Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? Then just do the seeding
- 17:27Speaker 4: off your record. Don't do it off of what the
- 17:30Speaker 4: assistant to the head coach votes. Don't do it to
- 17:33Speaker 4: what media members vote. Do the bracket, the seedings based
- 17:39Speaker 4: on record.
- 17:39Speaker 2: And also force Notre Dame's ass to join something. Yeah.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Get in a conference. Just kick them out.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:47Speaker 5: The fact that they get special treatment year after year
- 17:51Speaker 5: after year.
- 17:52Speaker 2: And, look, I'm going to be honest with you.
- 17:55Speaker 5: It's genius scheduling by them because what they do is
- 17:58Speaker 5: they get middle-of-the-road power four teams. They get Stanford, and
- 18:04Speaker 5: they get UNC, and they get Purdue, and Michigan State,
- 18:09Speaker 5: and they're like, Look.
- 18:11Speaker 2: We got 12 power four opponents. It's like, no, you don't.
- 18:16Speaker 5: You got the bottom feeders of these conferences, and then
- 18:18Speaker 5: they throw in the, like, oh, we'll get Miami.
- 18:20Speaker 2: We'll get one.
- 18:21Speaker 5: And that's part of the ACC scheduling agreement that they have.
- 18:25Speaker 5: It's like, what they're doing, it's going to keep them
- 18:28Speaker 5: in the same position where they have some mulligans. Now,
- 18:31Speaker 5: last year, the only reason their mulligans didn't help them
- 18:34Speaker 5: is because the two teams that they lost to also
- 18:37Speaker 5: had playoff resumes, so they couldn't put them in the playoff.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 18:42Speaker 5: But, like, if we're going to have an NFL-like playoff
- 18:46Speaker 5: and we're going to have all these things that we
- 18:47Speaker 5: want to be similar, you've got to force people to
- 18:50Speaker 5: start playing something very similar.
- 18:52Speaker 2: To each other. You say it's smart by them. You
- 18:55Speaker 2: say it's genius. I say it's cowardly.
- 18:57Speaker 4: It's kind of like when you find a big deer,
- 19:00Speaker 4: a big buck, like a big old buck who's just, like,
- 19:03Speaker 4: has a big rack. He's six years old in the woods.
- 19:05Speaker 4: And everybody's like, that old buck, he's smart. He outsmarts
- 19:08Speaker 4: us every single year. Deer aren't smart. The big ones
- 19:13Speaker 4: that are old, they're just scarier than everybody else. They're
- 19:17Speaker 4: a little bit more cowardly.
- 19:18Speaker 2: More scared. More scared. No, it's scarier here, buddy. When
- 19:21Speaker 2: we're talking about Notre Dame, it's scarier. They're scarier. They're
- 19:23Speaker 2: more cowardly than everybody else. They're not smarter. They're just
- 19:28Speaker 2: more scared. Okay? So that's all they are. And, of course,
- 19:31Speaker 2: everybody wants to see the big buck. Everybody wants to
- 19:34Speaker 2: see Notre Dame and give them all the credit in
- 19:36Speaker 2: the world. But really, all they are is scared.
- 19:41Speaker 4: So kick them out. Take their helmets away. Don't let
- 19:42Speaker 4: them play.
- 19:46Speaker 5: But if we continue, which we have, and we're going to,
- 19:48Speaker 5: if we continue to let that.
- 19:50Speaker 2: slide and let them get away with that, what are
- 19:52Speaker 2: they going to do? Continue doing that. It's human nature, buddy.
- 19:55Speaker 2: And they're not going to stop. It's called human nature,
- 19:58Speaker 2: especially when you're scared. All right. We'll take a break.
- 20:01Speaker 2: We've got more OTB coming your way when we jump
- 20:04Speaker 2: back here live from Ross's. Off the Bench. Or go
- 20:12Speaker 2: to pelicanroof.com. Pelicanroof.com, the website for our friends over at
- 20:16Speaker 2: Pelican Roofing.
- 20:17Speaker 5: It's in Lafayette. It's in Baton Rouge. It is in
- 20:20Speaker 5: both locations. Boots in the ground in both locations. And
- 20:23Speaker 5: they have over, let's see, 600? Last time we looked,
- 20:27Speaker 5: 600 five-star reviews.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Oh, at least. That's a pretty big number. Maybe 600,000.
- 20:31Speaker 5: Yeah, and those come in organically. They don't cherry-pick those.
- 20:33Speaker 5: As they come in, they are put on the website.
- 20:36Speaker 5: Have that free consultation.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Have them come out to your house, to your business,
- 20:40Speaker 2: and see what's going on with your roof. PelicanRoof.com. PelicanRoof.com.
- 20:44Speaker 2: What does a free consultation mean? That means, well, if
- 20:47Speaker 2: you own a house, maybe you just bought a house,
- 20:48Speaker 2: maybe you've lived in your house for years.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Never even really thought about the roof it's one of
- 20:53Speaker 4: the most important parts of your house and you never
- 20:55Speaker 4: really thought about it we'll get them to come out
- 20:56Speaker 4: and tell you what shape it is what shapes it's
- 20:58Speaker 4: in like maybe you need a brand new one maybe
- 21:00Speaker 4: you don't maybe they're like they come look and say
- 21:02Speaker 4: you know see us in five years whatever they will
- 21:05Speaker 4: help you out and they can also help you with
- 21:06Speaker 4: financing options as well they're the best pelicanroof.com.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So Locked in on LSU football 24-7. You're listening to
- 21:40Speaker 1: Off the Bench.
- 21:40Speaker 7: I just realized that we're in the middle of.
- 21:46Speaker 1: A grocery store.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Yeah. And when we come back.
- 21:50Speaker 4: From break, I probably look like I'm in a silent
- 22:08Speaker 4: disco over here.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I've got my headphones on and dancing around. That was
- 22:12Speaker 2: a good song. Kind of forgot about the grocery goers here. Why?
- 22:17Speaker 2: My guy making the sushi over there. He's probably like,
- 22:19Speaker 2: what's that guy dancing on? I can't wait. We are
- 22:23Speaker 2: T-minus 35 minutes. 35 minutes from Sushi Bowl. I believe
- 22:27Speaker 2: you could probably go get some right now. A little
- 22:30Speaker 2: breakfast sushi. I mean, you did already... Annihilate. I was
- 22:34Speaker 2: going to say eliminate. Yeah, eliminate it. You deleted some
- 22:37Speaker 2: eggs and hash browns? I inhaled them. You did? I
- 22:40Speaker 2: didn't see a single chew. No, I chewed. I'm very accomplished.
- 22:45Speaker 2: I chewed. I'm not an animal, Jake.
- 22:49Speaker 4: Hey, did you see that we got flying cars now?
- 22:58Speaker 2: I did.
- 23:00Speaker 4: I thought it was AI at first. But then I
- 23:03Speaker 4: realized it wasn't. We got flying cars, Tesla. What the
- 23:08Speaker 4: hell's going on? You know, when most people get bored,
- 23:15Speaker 4: most people look for a hobby.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Well, they do. They pick up golf, pick up tennis.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Maybe if you're bored, you look on TV and maybe
- 23:25Speaker 4: you look at a new show to start. Like, what
- 23:27Speaker 4: can I binge? What can I stream right here? Maybe
- 23:32Speaker 4: take up mahjong as a new hobby. That's a new
- 23:36Speaker 4: crave going around. Everybody's doing it. Everybody craves.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Elon Musk was like, let's just make cars fly. And
- 23:42Speaker 2: he did it. In a weird way to present it, too.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Just in a reverse ramp. Oh, sweet. Barrel roll? Well,
- 23:49Speaker 2: I mean, that was awesome.
- 23:52Speaker 5: The Jetsons told us like 40, 50 years.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Ago it was going to happen. I know. And it's
- 23:57Speaker 2: like Elon watches.
- 24:00Speaker 4: old movies and shows and the depictions of the future.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Yeah. And just wants to do that. I respect it.
- 24:09Speaker 4: I don't know if flying cars are going to be
- 24:10Speaker 4: a thing. I don't trust people driving on the ground.
- 24:14Speaker 2: A lot of bad drivers out there. Can you imagine
- 24:17Speaker 2: just a bunch of pilots out there? No. Driving flying cars.
- 24:21Speaker 2: I think I'll pass. It'd have to be all automated. Yeah.
- 24:25Speaker 4: But you could at that point see as the crow
- 24:27Speaker 4: flies how close things are.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Touche. I know. If you've ever had to go over
- 24:32Speaker 2: to Plaquemine or Port Allen. Yeah. Or Brulee. Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:37Speaker 2: That wouldn't be bad. But if you look at that.
- 24:40Speaker 2: That's what it needs to be. Instead of ferries. Flying cars.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Flying cars. But they only get to go where the
- 24:47Speaker 2: ferries went.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:48Speaker 2: You've got to figure that out. Just hover over the water.
- 24:49Speaker 4: It would take less time to figure out how to
- 24:51Speaker 4: make flying cars than it would be to build another
- 24:55Speaker 4: bridge here near Baton Rouge.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Because I don't think that'll happen. They're trying to. Right
- 25:01Speaker 2: in front of where I live. I know nothing about
- 25:03Speaker 2: bridge politics, but.
- 25:07Speaker 5: If you're listening to us, don't make a video about
- 25:09Speaker 5: us complaining about the bridge.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Why? Can't do that. Because they made one. Alondra was like,
- 25:15Speaker 2: you know, when's this street going to open back? Yeah.
- 25:17Speaker 2: By the lakes of Baton Rouge. Yeah. They did? Yeah. Well,
- 25:21Speaker 2: when is it?
- 25:22Speaker 5: Alondra, can we have some investigative reporting? When was the
- 25:26Speaker 5: street supposed to open and when's it actually opening?
- 25:29Speaker 7: So the street was closed from, like, June 2024, and
- 25:33Speaker 7: it was supposed to open August 31st of 2026, so, like,
- 25:38Speaker 7: two months ago. And after I got superimposed onto this
- 25:43Speaker 7: video without my permission, he said that in November I
- 25:47Speaker 7: think it's supposed to open back up.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Cool. All right.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Well, it's just like any construction I'm about to find
- 25:55Speaker 4: out at my house. Probably not going to be when you.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Think it is. If they say March, think November.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Do you think that kind of like with houses, you
- 26:04Speaker 4: think building that new road, you think they went under budget?
- 26:07Speaker 2: Oh, definitely. Like they were quoted a price, obviously. Yeah.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Probably went under budget. No doubt. Saved a little bit
- 26:14Speaker 2: here and there. I bet they haven't spent that much
- 26:16Speaker 2: doing the whole lake deal over there by LSU. No, no.
- 26:19Speaker 4: Creating earth. Creating more earth over there on the lake.
- 26:23Speaker 4: That's probably pretty cheap.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Quick, easy. But it's going to look good.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Couple years eventually just kind of like that new bridge
- 26:32Speaker 4: get uh you might as well just get a flying
- 26:34Speaker 4: ferry i'm just saying like if you're gonna use oh
- 26:40Speaker 4: yeah why don't i just figure that out like i
- 26:42Speaker 4: mean elon is coming bringing rockets here to louisiana you
- 26:46Speaker 4: think you could help you your boys out over here
- 26:48Speaker 4: just kill a flying ferry maybe that was part of
- 26:50Speaker 4: the deal yeah we'll let you set up your rockets
- 26:53Speaker 4: here if you build us a flying ferry that'd be cool.
- 26:58Speaker 2: I forget about that.
- 26:59Speaker 4: Anyway, the flying car was objectively badass, especially the slowed-down version.
- 27:07Speaker 4: This guy liked these hydraulic jets from the bottom and from.
- 27:10Speaker 2: The side, too, to stabilize it. That was sweet. With
- 27:14Speaker 2: the price of diesel, I bet that fuel's cheap, too.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I mean, it's cheaper than diesel, for sure. My God.
- 27:21Speaker 4: I picked the wrong time in the history of America
- 27:25Speaker 4: to buy a diesel truck.
- 27:27Speaker 2: What's that? What's it cost you to fill up there, bud?
- 27:31Speaker 2: Pretty penny. Last time it was like $ 175. God. It's
- 27:33Speaker 2: a big tank. But I will say this. I drive
- 27:40Speaker 2: from my house to the radio station, to my office,
- 27:43Speaker 2: and to my house. Yeah. And I don't really drive
- 27:46Speaker 2: anywhere else. Especially during football season. We ain't going many places.
- 27:50Speaker 2: And if you do, you take the wife's car.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Because I got to bring the people these takes about
- 27:56Speaker 4: flying cars.
- 27:58Speaker 2: So I do only fill up maybe once a month. Well, hell,
- 28:02Speaker 2: at $ 175, I'd hope so. I know. I know. It's
- 28:05Speaker 2: a lot. Jeez. Write that thing off. Hi. I'm Matt Flynn, F-A-B-T.
- 28:11Speaker 2: I'm here for a loan. For what, sir? For a home?
- 28:14Speaker 2: For your business? To fill up? To fill up gas.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Fill up my tank. In this economy? You don't just
- 28:21Speaker 2: put 10 in? That'd be sweet. It used to last
- 28:26Speaker 2: a whole week. Anyhoos. All right. Flying cars. It's awesome.
- 28:31Speaker 2: We'll take a break. We'll get back to sports when
- 28:33Speaker 2: we come back here on OTB. Off the bench. All right.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Go to GCOPnet.com. GCOPnet.com. Gulf Coast Office Products. You're in question.

- 29:25Speaker 4: will keep that paper trail running. And you know also, like,

- 29:35Speaker 4: that can be for your business. They've got an award-winning

- 30:12Speaker 1: for all things Louisiana sports.
- 30:31Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in OTB here live from Rouse's
- 30:36Speaker 2: Burbank and Lee. We've got Alondra.
- 30:39Speaker 5: Tete back in the Raising Cane studio in downtown Baton Rouge.
- 30:43Speaker 5: And we've got, well, Richard Dick Dixon here with us
- 30:48Speaker 5: at Rouse's.
- 30:49Speaker 2: What's up, brother? How we doing? Doing good.
- 30:52Speaker 6: I want to apologize in advance to the guys at
- 30:54Speaker 6: Rouse's that y'all put this on together. I brought a
- 30:56Speaker 6: few kids around here that think this is the playground
- 30:58Speaker 6: for a moment.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I did.
- 30:59Speaker 4: They did at commercial. They said, can we go roam around?
- 31:02Speaker 4: And you said, yeah. And they went, yeah.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Let's go. They took off running.
- 31:09Speaker 5: I mean, I hadn't seen that look since we used
- 31:11Speaker 5: to order pizza on TGIF night when Boy Meets World
- 31:14Speaker 5: was about to come on.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Can we get pizza? They were fired up.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Can we get two pizzas? You know, the kids these days. Independence.
- 31:22Speaker 2: So fired up. You'll walk around our houses.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I know my kids are at that. That's true. Back
- 31:26Speaker 2: in the day, we'd have thought nothing of it. We
- 31:28Speaker 2: rode our bike to Kroger or whatever it.
- 31:30Speaker 6: Was and got a road and went and got stuff.
- 31:32Speaker 6: Parents didn't know where you were for six hours.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Hey, you seen Richard? About four or five hours ago.
- 31:39Speaker 2: All right. Come on, they'll be back. That's how it was.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Can you imagine? Oh, my. You did it. Can you
- 31:46Speaker 2: imagine as a parent? No, I'd freak out.
- 31:48Speaker 6: I just don't get where that happens, where that switch happens,
- 31:51Speaker 6: because my parents didn't give a damn where I was.
- 31:53Speaker 2: No.
- 31:54Speaker 6: You left, and as long as you were back when
- 31:55Speaker 6: the streetlights came on, you were good. And now, when
- 31:58Speaker 6: my kids walk out to go walk around the block,
- 32:01Speaker 6: I'm like, poke my head out.
- 32:03Speaker 4: It's because social media. And we're all in tune to
- 32:07Speaker 4: what's happening everywhere. There used to be a little blind
- 32:09Speaker 4: ignorance back in the day. The world's always been a
- 32:11Speaker 4: bad place. There's always unsafe things and bad things that
- 32:16Speaker 4: can happen, even when there wasn't phones.
- 32:18Speaker 6: I saw a deal where it said today is actually
- 32:20Speaker 6: the safest times the world's ever been. But the problem is,
- 32:23Speaker 6: we know about every kidnapping from California to New York.
- 32:26Speaker 6: You know about everything. It happens in another country, you
- 32:28Speaker 6: hear about it. Back in the day, you knew what
- 32:30Speaker 6: happened in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. And if somebody got kidnapped
- 32:33Speaker 6: in Gulfport, my day still was.
- 32:36Speaker 4: I think historians actually, since World War II, I think
- 32:39Speaker 4: historians actually called this time period right now.
- 32:42Speaker 2: The Great Peace.
- 32:44Speaker 4: Even though there are little things happening, and we think
- 32:47Speaker 4: it's bad, we're just hyper-aware of everything.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Because we're watching what's going on all over the world
- 32:51Speaker 2: in seconds.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Back in the day, the only reason you knew what
- 32:54Speaker 4: was going on was because of unsolved mysteries in 2020.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Unsolved mysteries. That's the only time you ever heard about
- 33:02Speaker 2: any bad stuff. That is a blast from the past.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Forensic Files. That's a good one, too. All right, Dixon.
- 33:08Speaker 2: How are we feeling? Coming off a loss at Kentucky.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I just hate that place. That's a tough place to play.
- 33:16Speaker 2: I hate it.
- 33:16Speaker 5: I've lost every time I've been there as a player
- 33:19Speaker 5: covering the team 0-3.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I mean, when we.
- 33:23Speaker 6: I mean, I tell a story about our game a
- 33:25Speaker 6: lot of times, and I've talked to y'all about it.
- 33:27Speaker 6: I mean, I didn't like our team's mindset in that game.
- 33:30Speaker 6: I felt like I wanted to fight half of our
- 33:32Speaker 6: team before the game because everybody was, like, joking and relaxed. And,
- 33:35Speaker 6: you know, Brett Hounds was out, and then Early was out,
- 33:38Speaker 6: and then people started getting banged up. And, you know,
- 33:41Speaker 6: that was the first time when Les Miles and Henson
- 33:44Speaker 6: called me in the office that Monday because I was, like,
- 33:46Speaker 6: in tears, ready to fight. Like, you're no longer a sophomore.
- 33:50Speaker 6: You're allowed to slap somebody in the face. Like, we've
- 33:52Speaker 6: got to have some leadership because I think the coaches
- 33:54Speaker 6: saw it, too. That was the one time in my
- 33:57Speaker 6: career I remember that locker room was not a good–
- 34:00Speaker 6: before the game.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Right. Like, everybody was just relaxed, joking, like it was no,
- 34:03Speaker 2: it's just Kentucky.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:04Speaker 2: And then we go out there and get our books.
- 34:05Speaker 2: What was the team we played before? What was the
- 34:07Speaker 2: week before? Florida. It was Florida, okay. Yeah.
- 34:09Speaker 4: Yeah, so I remember going into that game, and maybe
- 34:13Speaker 4: it was a hangover from the Florida game.
- 34:14Speaker 2: I don't know. I just remember going into that game.
- 34:15Speaker 2: I didn't practice that week.
- 34:16Speaker 4: I was not as confident and as prepared with the
- 34:20Speaker 4: game plan that week. I don't think anybody was. And
- 34:23Speaker 4: I don't know if that's because we installed new plays.
- 34:25Speaker 4: We had a lot of shotgun runs, which I hated.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like we installed a new offense that week.
- 34:31Speaker 2: We did. But maybe a lot of that's on us, too.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Maybe we just didn't give it the attention it needed.
- 34:36Speaker 2: That's on Gary, actually. I'm not taking any of that.
- 34:39Speaker 2: It's Croton.
- 34:40Speaker 6: But Helms went out, Miller went in, and then I
- 34:43Speaker 6: think there was more than– I mean, I know Early
- 34:44Speaker 6: was out. Early was trying to come back.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Stelts got knocked out of the game. Yeah, Stelts got–
- 34:49Speaker 2: By Dickey Lyons, yeah.
- 34:50Speaker 6: It was one of those games, like, people kept going out,
- 34:52Speaker 6: and it was triple overtime.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I don't know. I understood post-route, but LaFell. Yeah, I
- 34:58Speaker 2: remember that one. No, I don't.
- 35:00Speaker 6: I do remember Les Miles cussing Henson out because we
- 35:02Speaker 6: ran a necker that you threw to Keith Zinger.
- 35:04Speaker 2: And the way.
- 35:05Speaker 6: He called the play, they had me on the backside
- 35:07Speaker 6: running the slam flat. And Keith running the deep over.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and I threw the deep over. And you threw
- 35:11Speaker 2: the deep over and he dropped it. Yeah, I remember
- 35:12Speaker 2: him dropping it.
- 35:13Speaker 6: I got cussed out and Henson got cussed out. They're like,
- 35:15Speaker 6: you're supposed to run the deep over. I'm like, you
- 35:16Speaker 6: called the play.
- 35:17Speaker 5: Yeah. I cut a gun run. We had a puller.
- 35:21Speaker 5: We had the tackle pull on the thing from right
- 35:24Speaker 5: to left.
- 35:24Speaker 2: And I kind of cut it too far back.
- 35:26Speaker 5: I cut a backside A gap and tried to do,
- 35:29Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying, like try to do too much.
- 35:31Speaker 2: At the end of that game. I remember calling one
- 35:34Speaker 2: of my many quarterback powers of the year.
- 35:37Speaker 4: I called it like middle of the field or something.
- 35:39Speaker 4: I remember I got like six or seven yards.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I remember getting stuck. And I was like, ooh, that
- 35:44Speaker 2: one hurt. I wasn't low man on that one.
- 35:48Speaker 6: When people talk about Kentucky, I like to go back
- 35:50Speaker 6: and say that was a really damn good Kentucky team too.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I mean, they were 14, 15.
- 35:54Speaker 1: 17. 17?
- 35:54Speaker 2: Okay, I knew they were in the teens. Jacob Tammey,
- 35:59Speaker 2: Wesley Woodyard.
- 36:01Speaker 6: I tell the story all the time. The first time
- 36:02Speaker 6: me and you talked about, you talked to me about
- 36:05Speaker 6: wearing 18.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I was taking Tammy.
- 36:06Speaker 6: We're sitting there, and you're like, man. I was like,
- 36:07Speaker 6: I don't know, man. You're like, no, that looks really good.
- 36:09Speaker 6: Look at the tight end for Kentucky. Look at Tammy.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Yeah. 18 looks great on a tight end. It does.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Looks good. That was your convincing point. Sold. Yeah, so
- 36:18Speaker 2: 20 years later, that's what happened in the Kentucky game. Yeah, anyway.
- 36:21Speaker 2: And then, well, that's what happened Saturday.
- 36:24Speaker 6: Fourth and one, why don't we, like, I know, like,
- 36:26Speaker 6: I listened to his explanation, and I can get it. Like,
- 36:29Speaker 6: if he goes for it on fourth and one and
- 36:30Speaker 6: misses it, everybody's like, well, why didn't you trust the defense? But, like,
- 36:34Speaker 6: that's such a typical Lane Kiffin move right there. Like,
- 36:37Speaker 6: I've watched it for years at Ole Miss. You're at midfield,
- 36:39Speaker 6: win the game, go get one yard. Like, I remember
- 36:42Speaker 6: what had happened. I was like, it's game over.
- 36:43Speaker 2: I'm good. Stood up, ready to go. And I saw
- 36:46Speaker 2: the punt team come out, and I was like. I think,
- 36:48Speaker 2: so Chris asked me on the radio, he's like, all right,
- 36:50Speaker 2: put on your coaching headset.
- 36:51Speaker 5: And I knew where he was going. So he's like,
- 36:53Speaker 5: all right, put on your coaching headset. And I said,
- 36:54Speaker 5: go for it. Like, before he, I was like, you
- 36:56Speaker 5: go for it. I was like, look, and I said
- 36:58Speaker 5: this on the broadcast. I was like, I'm from the
- 37:00Speaker 5: school of Les Miles, like, where you don't even think
- 37:02Speaker 5: about that. And I really, I'm with you. And Lane's
- 37:04Speaker 5: been in.
- 37:05Speaker 2: That world, too.
- 37:05Speaker 5: Like, that's always kind of been his M.O., And so
- 37:08Speaker 5: when I saw– it was less than a yard.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:10Speaker 5: And, like, when I saw that, I was like, oh, well,
- 37:12Speaker 5: they've got a running quarterback. They've got a running back
- 37:14Speaker 5: that understands how to find a little gap, and then
- 37:16Speaker 5: he presses the gap. So even if it's not blocked
- 37:19Speaker 5: up perfectly– and I've always said this. Even if there's
- 37:21Speaker 5: a free running linebacker in the A gap, B gap,
- 37:24Speaker 5: wherever you're running it, that then goes on the running
- 37:27Speaker 5: back to find a way to get a yard.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Like that– it's me versus him. I'm going to find
- 37:31Speaker 2: a way to get a yard.
- 37:33Speaker 5: And so– Like replaying that is just still like that's
- 37:36Speaker 5: the one in the game.
- 37:37Speaker 2: And I'm with you. Like I heard him talk about
- 37:39Speaker 2: it in the defense at that point had been, you know,
- 37:42Speaker 2: put in bad situations and they held in the field
- 37:44Speaker 2: goal attempts and they've been playing well.
- 37:46Speaker 5: So I get that point of it. But when you
- 37:48Speaker 5: have less than a yard to finish the game. My
- 37:51Speaker 5: thought is that's where you finish.
- 37:53Speaker 6: I feel like if they punt the ball, there's still
- 37:55Speaker 6: an opportunity. Like it's not as hard to get back
- 37:57Speaker 6: to that field goal range. Whereas where they're at. you
- 38:00Speaker 6: can probably hold them to a field goal. So I
- 38:02Speaker 6: was thinking it was field goal either way.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Go ahead and go get it. But I don't know.
- 38:06Speaker 6: I hadn't watched the film. This is one that I've
- 38:08Speaker 6: kind of ignored. It's the first time I've even talked
- 38:10Speaker 6: about football. I haven't listened to one radio show, one podcast.
- 38:13Speaker 6: Thanks for listening, bud.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Thanks, bud. I didn't want to relive it. Hey, you
- 38:16Speaker 2: know what?
- 38:17Speaker 6: Y'all know that I'm a little bit temperamental. I get
- 38:19Speaker 6: a little mad.
- 38:21Speaker 2: So is he. But, You watch the film. I know
- 38:24Speaker 2: you break down. Sorry I care, Matt.
- 38:26Speaker 6: Guys, Eye in the Sky is freaking awesome.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Love it. Thank you.
- 38:31Speaker 6: Thank God that I don't have to do that anymore
- 38:32Speaker 6: and I don't want to compete with you. But what
- 38:36Speaker 6: was up with the offensive line? Like, you told me
- 38:37Speaker 6: fourth and one, we averaged two and a half yards
- 38:39Speaker 6: a carry. What was going on? Like, were we not
- 38:42Speaker 6: getting a push? Could you see why he's not confident
- 38:44Speaker 6: with that?
- 38:44Speaker 4: So, we talked about a lot of– so, the game
- 38:46Speaker 4: plan was really strange to me from a running game
- 38:48Speaker 4: standpoint because you could have– I think you could have
- 38:51Speaker 4: ran duos and isos and outside-inside zone all day. Now,
- 38:55Speaker 4: they played really hard. They played better on defense than
- 38:57Speaker 4: they had the whole season. But we– The game plan
- 39:01Speaker 4: was pulling a lot of people, at least early on.
- 39:04Speaker 4: We ran so many counters, so many tackle, tight ends,
- 39:08Speaker 4: pulling around, so many like, you know, we ran.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Sweeps when people like. Long developing players.
- 39:12Speaker 4: Long developing, you know, and you get it when you're in,
- 39:15Speaker 4: when you have receivers and tight ends that are split
- 39:17Speaker 4: out or off the line of scrimmage, part of the count,
- 39:20Speaker 4: the box count, and guys and then linemen pulling around.
- 39:23Speaker 4: They were trying to sort so many things out. And
- 39:25Speaker 4: there's always like one person that either didn't get the
- 39:27Speaker 4: mic call or missed his assignment. and so there's always
- 39:30Speaker 4: one person free and they were just they were trying
- 39:32Speaker 4: to move side to side more than they were trying
- 39:34Speaker 4: to move north and south in the running game which
- 39:36Speaker 4: a lot of times it works and a lot of
- 39:38Speaker 4: times that's part of the game plan and i think
- 39:39Speaker 4: that's a good tool to have but they relied on
- 39:41Speaker 4: that a little too much now on the second half
- 39:43Speaker 4: they got into a little bit more normalized running game,
- 39:46Speaker 4: and they had success with it. They were getting downhill,
- 39:49Speaker 4: getting some good double teams, getting to the second level.
- 39:52Speaker 2: It just... Yeah, they should have gone for it.
- 39:55Speaker 4: I mean, you go get a yard. Now, maybe if
- 39:58Speaker 4: this was the Brian Kelly era. You're talking about the
- 40:00Speaker 4: last couple years. I'm scared to death of a yard.
- 40:02Speaker 6: We can do it. I want it third and 11.
- 40:04Speaker 6: I feel good third and 11, but I'll do it.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Fourth and one.
- 40:08Speaker 4: The last couple years, I hated getting nine yards on first.
- 40:10Speaker 2: I hated it. The drive was over. You can't get
- 40:13Speaker 2: a yard. We got nine yards on the first play.
- 40:17Speaker 2: It was over. You know we were punting. But, yeah,
- 40:19Speaker 2: and I get it.
- 40:20Speaker 4: From a coach's standpoint the explanation is sound right the
- 40:23Speaker 4: explanation is sound but this day and age in college
- 40:27Speaker 4: football i was stunned that he didn't go for it
- 40:30Speaker 4: i was shocked and yeah and he should have and
- 40:33Speaker 4: he'll admit it and he'll never punt again the punter
- 40:35Speaker 4: will not a ball will not touch that punter's foot
- 40:38Speaker 4: the rest of the season here's my other thing on
- 40:40Speaker 4: that like and this is where i completely understand but
- 40:43Speaker 4: everybody in the world knew kentucky was gonna go for
- 40:44Speaker 4: two Oh, yeah.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Because they did it a week before.
- 40:48Speaker 5: And as soon as they scored, Chris was like, let's
- 40:51Speaker 5: see what they do. I said, they're already holding up two.
- 40:54Speaker 6: I was a coach, and I get that you're first.
- 40:57Speaker 6: You want to secure the extra point. But you know
- 41:00Speaker 6: for a fact if they get it, they're going for two.
- 41:01Speaker 2: I don't know if right there I'm like. Might as
- 41:03Speaker 2: well go for two.
- 41:04Speaker 6: Even though I'm the first one to score, I know
- 41:07Speaker 6: in my mind that if we don't stop them, they're
- 41:08Speaker 6: going for two and they're going to win this game.
- 41:10Speaker 6: So it's almost I feel like you have to go
- 41:11Speaker 6: for two out of the game. You know what we
- 41:12Speaker 6: hadn't talked about? Who lost the game?
- 41:14Speaker 4: Who went out there as the captain and made the
- 41:16Speaker 4: coin toss? Because, you know, we called it being the
- 41:19Speaker 4: busy game.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Who missed it? Did they call heads? I don't remember who.
- 41:24Speaker 2: You know tails never fails. Yeah. Who called that? I
- 41:27Speaker 2: don't know.
- 41:27Speaker 4: Because, you know, you do that. You send them to
- 41:29Speaker 4: the field. You let them go score, and then we
- 41:32Speaker 4: get to go for two being the away team.
- 41:35Speaker 2: So whoever had the coin flip lost us the game.
- 41:37Speaker 2: So everyone's blaming Lane about the punt. I'm blaming whoever
- 41:40Speaker 2: called the coin flip. Fair enough. Tough. All right.
- 41:44Speaker 5: We will step away, and when we come back, we'll
- 41:46Speaker 5: continue with our guy Richard Dick Dixon right here on OTB.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Off the bench. All right, go to TrashRangers.com.
- 41:56Speaker 5: TrashRangers.com is the website, residential, commercial, trash pickup service, roll-off dumpsters.
- 42:01Speaker 2: They've got three.
- 42:01Speaker 5: Different sizes to choose from. If you're looking for the
- 42:05Speaker 5: right size for your project, just give them a call.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Let them know, hey, here's what I've got going on.
- 42:09Speaker 5: They're going to make sure that you have the right
- 42:10Speaker 5: size on your project, at your home, at your business,
- 42:13Speaker 5: and also that sanitation department that we tell you about.
- 42:16Speaker 5: If you need a portable restroom on your job site,
- 42:18Speaker 5: at your event, they've got you there as well.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Go to TrashRangers.com.
- 42:21Speaker 4: That's right, Trash Rangers, TrashRangers.com. Of course, they've got the
- 42:25Speaker 4: best trash removal service from the residential pickup, the commercial pickup,
- 42:30Speaker 4: the roll-off dumpsters, but also don't forget about the Trash
- 42:32Speaker 4: Rangers sanitation department.
- 42:33Speaker 2: We're talking portable toilets. So if you have a construction company,
- 42:37Speaker 2: if you have.
- 42:37Speaker 4: A project, maybe you have an event outside this fall,
- 42:40Speaker 4: make sure you call them for those portable toilets. Don't
- 42:42Speaker 4: rely on those national companies. Do business with the local companies.
- 42:45Speaker 4: The best around. Trash Rangers. Go to TrashRangers.com.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Life is bigger, it's bigger than you and you are
- 43:14Speaker 1: not me.
- 43:14Speaker 2: The things that I will go to, the distance in
- 43:21Speaker 2: your eyes. Oh no, I've said too much. I said
- 43:33Speaker 2: it all.
- 43:36Speaker 1: From the locker room to the airwaves, it's Off the
- 43:38Speaker 1: Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 44:00Speaker 5: It is a combination of both, like it has been
- 44:02Speaker 5: for me and my crew. Go see what they can
- 44:04Speaker 5: do for you. Ktozblinds, K-T-O-Z-blinds.com, Ktozblinds.com.
- 44:09Speaker 2: It was wild.
- 44:10Speaker 5: We talked about the playoff going to 24 teams. We
- 44:13Speaker 5: got people that work together, like national media members that
- 44:16Speaker 5: are fighting back and forth about what they said years
- 44:18Speaker 5: ago to what they're saying now. There's some people that
- 44:20Speaker 5: are really going through it when it comes to the
- 44:23Speaker 5: 2014 playoffs.
- 44:24Speaker 2: How do you feel about 2014's? We talked about it
- 44:27Speaker 2: a little bit earlier.
- 44:28Speaker 5: I mean, the closer we get to the NFL, which
- 44:31Speaker 5: we are with basically free agency.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Well, the NFL's got 32 teams. I don't love the way.
- 44:34Speaker 2: They don't have 24 in the playoffs. I don't love
- 44:36Speaker 2: the way you say that. The closer we get to
- 44:38Speaker 2: the NFL.
- 44:39Speaker 4: We're getting from a quality of football standpoint, you're getting
- 44:42Speaker 4: further away from the NFL.
- 44:43Speaker 2: I'm talking about the offseason. But the parity. I'm talking
- 44:45Speaker 2: about the parity in the offseason. The ability to add
- 44:49Speaker 2: a player through free agency. That's what it is. So
- 44:54Speaker 2: I'm not talking about the actual, no.
- 44:56Speaker 5: Think about the game last night.
- 44:58Speaker 2: We're like, dude, that sucked. That was ugly. That would
- 45:01Speaker 2: be the best played college football game. Well, of course.
- 45:03Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? Of course.
- 45:04Speaker 5: So I'm not saying that on the field product. Now,
- 45:08Speaker 5: the parity portion of it, yes. But I'm talking about
- 45:10Speaker 5: more of the transactional portion of it.
- 45:13Speaker 6: Matt, so from the standpoint of the clock or the helmet,
- 45:17Speaker 6: in the NFL, do they have about the same time
- 45:19Speaker 6: frame where.
- 45:20Speaker 2: They can talk to you up to? Yeah, it cuts
- 45:22Speaker 2: off at. 15 seconds?
- 45:24Speaker 1: 15 or 18.
- 45:24Speaker 2: 15 in college.
- 45:24Speaker 6: So, you know, I hear a lot of people complaining
- 45:26Speaker 6: about the quarterbacks are dumber these days because they don't
- 45:29Speaker 6: have to think. They get everything from the sideline. And
- 45:31Speaker 6: then the coach, they don't huddle. They get lined up.
- 45:33Speaker 6: So the coach tells them, here's your read. Here's what
- 45:35Speaker 6: you got to do.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Call it. Sure.
- 45:36Speaker 6: But how much of that, why doesn't that happen as
- 45:38Speaker 6: much in the NFL? The coach didn't really talk to
- 45:41Speaker 6: you a lot. No, the coach tells you.
- 45:44Speaker 4: Like with the jayden daniel situation this past weekend they
- 45:47Speaker 4: 100 should have been talking to jayden daniel it's been
- 45:49Speaker 4: like you gotta you gotta throw it away like this
- 45:51Speaker 4: is like any special situations but i think in college
- 45:54Speaker 4: and i don't know i've never had a headset in
- 45:56Speaker 4: college but like from what you hear they're talking to
- 45:59Speaker 4: them more about coverages and things.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Like that they're in cover too you need to look they.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Never really talked to us about like that unless it
- 46:05Speaker 4: was a special one-off situation in the nfl like every
- 46:08Speaker 4: now and then they would talk to you and every
- 46:10Speaker 4: now and then they would tell you about be alert
- 46:12Speaker 4: for this coverage yeah but they're not yeah i mean
- 46:15Speaker 4: college quarterbacks are getting done did.
