- 0:00Speaker 1: For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast,
- 0:05Speaker 1: get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, or
- 0:09Speaker 1: Raw Dog It, four to seven every weekday on Radio Hodake.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Are we rolling? Are we, Keezy?
- 0:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yeah, nice, mate.
- 0:18Speaker 3: It feels like a Friday. Hey, what day is it?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Wednesday. Wednesday. Yeah.
- 0:23Speaker 4: It's always a bugger. I have that quite often, actually,
- 0:25Speaker 4: where I have the vibe. You lose time, don't you, Jase?
- 0:28Speaker 4: I have the vibe of another day in my head.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Or in my body, and then someone says it's blah, blah, blah,
- 0:32Speaker 4: and I go, oh, fuck.
- 0:34Speaker 5: It's always Friday for me.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Is it?
- 0:35Speaker 5: It's always about 5 o'clock on Friday.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That sort of makes sense, actually, Keezy.
- 0:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 0:41Speaker 2: In the grand scheme of things.
- 0:43Speaker 5: Hey, what did you guys get up to today?
- 0:46Speaker 2: What did I get up to?
- 0:47Speaker 5: Yeah, like what do you do before the show?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Lots of stuff, mate. Went to the gym. Did my lawns.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Did some lawn stuff.
- 0:56Speaker 5: You had a big lawn, eh?
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yeah, big lawn. But that was terrible because they were
- 1:00Speaker 2: wet as.
- 1:01Speaker 5: Wet as, yeah.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Sodden. Sodden, yes. Did a podcast. Oh, the BYC.
- 1:07Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:08Speaker 2: What about yourself?
- 1:09Speaker 5: Played golf. I love golf. I'm officially, it's been two months,
- 1:16Speaker 5: I'm a massive golfer now.
- 1:16Speaker 3: I get the feeling that Casey asked that question just
- 1:18Speaker 3: so he could talk about golf.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Just so he could talk about his golf. Yeah, yeah. Yeah,
- 1:21Speaker 2: very much so.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Do you guys want to ask me more about it?
- 1:25Speaker 2: I think you've covered it. Yeah, I think you've made
- 1:27Speaker 2: your statement there, Kesey.
- 1:29Speaker 5: Mike, what did you get up to today?
- 1:30Speaker 3: Went to the gym.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Hard out, man.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Which one of us do you believe?
- 1:36Speaker 2: Jase.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I'm actually surprised by that. I was fully thinking he
- 1:41Speaker 2: was going to back my node there.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Of course it was.
- 1:43Speaker 5: That's why I said it.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah, went to the– what did I do? Got up
- 1:48Speaker 3: in the morning– That was a good start.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah, nice.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Cheers.
- 1:53Speaker 5: It always helps.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Took the kids to school. What did I do? There
- 1:56Speaker 3: was something.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Didn't you get your testes looked at?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, that. I had my acupuncture on my nutsack.
- 2:03Speaker 2: We'll get into that a little bit later.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yeah. Had some meetings. I feel like I went somewhere.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Dropped the kit off, went to the gym, had some meetings.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I had a COVID test, spit test.
- 2:19Speaker 5: Just in case.
- 2:20Speaker 3: You've got to do it before you go to Wellies. Oh, right, yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 3: So I got to do that and then got home
- 2:26Speaker 3: and then had a meeting at the office and then
- 2:30Speaker 3: got home, realised I'd forgotten to pick my daughter up
- 2:34Speaker 3: when I picked her up.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Actually, just on that front, I did the old daughter
- 2:39Speaker 4: drop today too.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Gets up. Can you take me to New Lynn? How
- 2:45Speaker 2: does she.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Normally get there?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Well, I mean, normally she'll bus or something. Oh, of course.
- 2:51Speaker 3: No, it's school holidays, isn't it?
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:55Speaker 4: So it was like, they just expect you to drop
- 2:58Speaker 4: everything and just go and just take them wherever they are.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Sometimes I say no, Mike. No, I can't take you there.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Is there a bus?
- 3:06Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Well, there you go.
- 3:07Speaker 4: And I think it... It engenders a certain independence in
- 3:12Speaker 4: them to make their own way to where they want
- 3:15Speaker 4: to go.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Yeah, the only concern for me moving forward, and I've
- 3:18Speaker 3: got a while to go and you've been through it
- 3:19Speaker 3: a few times and you've got one left to go
- 3:21Speaker 3: and fingers crossed, the idea of other people driving my kid.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, no, I'm not.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Teenage boys showing off.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Well, actually, yeah, and her current little boyfriend is a
- 3:34Speaker 4: real bum. He hasn't got his licence or anything, but
- 3:37Speaker 4: he's a real petrolhead. He loves his cars.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, nice. He's massively into cars.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Like me.
- 3:42Speaker 4: You won't be fucking driving with him, I'll tell you
- 3:44Speaker 4: that much for tuppence.
- 3:45Speaker 3: See, it's a red flag for me because every one
- 3:47Speaker 3: of my mates that was a petrolhead at school was
- 3:50Speaker 3: also a massive fucking lunatic.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:53Speaker 3: We would drive around in the country, the countryside. at,
- 3:58Speaker 3: you know, God, all hours of the night.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Yes.
- 4:01Speaker 3: And windy, sort of.
- 4:03Speaker 2: All country roads.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Yeah, when you head out to particularly Tararua Ranges, it's really,
- 4:07Speaker 3: really windy. And this guy's trick, we were 15, he'd
- 4:11Speaker 3: just drive on both sides of the roads like a rally,
- 4:15Speaker 3: blind corners, and he would, the way he would know
- 4:19Speaker 3: that he was okay was as he was coming to
- 4:21Speaker 3: the blind corner, he would turn the lights off See
- 4:24Speaker 3: if there's any other beams. See if there are lights
- 4:26Speaker 3: in another car or come in and turn them back out.
- 4:28Speaker 3: It's just all over the show. It's just like, well,
- 4:29Speaker 3: what if the other car is doing the same thing?
- 4:31Speaker 5: There are two types of petrolheads, though.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Psychopaths and soft dogs. Exactly.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Like all my three elders, of course, have all got
- 4:40Speaker 4: their licences. That's hard to deal with. You know, as
- 4:43Speaker 4: soon as they drove off, Yeah. You know, like, I
- 4:46Speaker 4: was like, oh, fuck.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Anxiety. I still have it. And all three of them,
- 4:52Speaker 2: to their credit, are bloody good drivers. Better than me.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Yeah, or did your missus teach them?
- 4:57Speaker 2: She did. I didn't.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Because you're still scared of reversing, though.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I am.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Because you stole.
- 5:02Speaker 5: That time you tried to reverse.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Well, I told you about my daughter Millie refused to
- 5:08Speaker 4: have me in the.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Car with her.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Yeah, which is understandable.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Because, you know, I'd literally hold on to the dashboard
- 5:13Speaker 4: and I'd be doing the.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:15Speaker 4: And she just went, fuck, Dad, I'm not having you
- 5:18Speaker 4: in the car anymore.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I'm only going to drive with Mum.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Yeah. Fair enough, too.
- 5:23Speaker 5: My partner does, actually.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Which was my plan all along, to be honest.
- 5:26Speaker 5: You'll be driving along. She'll be in the passenger seat.
- 5:27Speaker 6: And then she'll just put her hand on the glove
- 5:30Speaker 6: box in front of you, just like to brace.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah, but I can imagine you're a maniac, Keezy.
- 5:33Speaker 6: I'm actually a very relaxed driver. I'm a petrolhead that's
- 5:36Speaker 6: massively into cars, like old cars. But I know what
- 5:39Speaker 6: you're talking about, about the psychos that used to go
- 5:42Speaker 6: out drifting and doing burnouts and stuff.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:45Speaker 3: The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 5:50Speaker 7: Oh, g'day, Matt.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Oh, hi, mate, yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 7: Look, if you want the chance to win all our
- 5:55Speaker 7: on-air competitions and stuff and get amongst the live conversation,
- 6:01Speaker 7: tune in to the Hauraki Big Show, four to seven
- 6:04Speaker 7: weekdays on Radio Hauraki and iHeartRadio.
- 6:09Speaker 6: The Hauraki Big Show podcast.
- 6:11Speaker 2: The worst.
- 6:12Speaker 4: The worst driving scenario I ever had was when I
- 6:15Speaker 4: was filming out in the Wop Wops, not long ago, actually,
- 6:19Speaker 4: for a film, that film with Robin Malcolm.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I can't even remember. Anyway, and we were in the
- 6:24Speaker 2: middle of the Wop Wops.
- 6:25Speaker 4: And we had to get to an airport so I
- 6:28Speaker 4: could fly down to Wellington, and they kept saying to me,
- 6:31Speaker 4: the classic on set, I know.
- 6:33Speaker 2: We've got plenty of time, plenty of time, plenty of time,
- 6:35Speaker 2: plenty of time, plenty of time. And anyway.
- 6:38Speaker 4: There wasn't plenty of time, and they said to the runner,
- 6:41Speaker 4: make sure you get him there. And this guy drove
- 6:44Speaker 4: like a fucking maniac. I have never been more terrified
- 6:49Speaker 4: in my life than I was. And in the end,
- 6:51Speaker 4: I actually said to him, mate, mate, don't worry about
- 6:54Speaker 4: the plane.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Slow down. I'd rather just miss the plane than die.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I've actually been in that situation where I've had the
- 7:02Speaker 3: car pulled over and I've driven.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Because if we're going to die, it's going to be
- 7:07Speaker 3: my fault.
- 7:07Speaker 6: Yes.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Yeah, because there's a difference between somebody driving quickly and
- 7:16Speaker 3: they can drive quick, you know. Yes. And someone who's
- 7:19Speaker 3: just a fucking liability.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and is just absolutely foot to the floor, man.
- 7:25Speaker 2: I love it.
- 7:27Speaker 4: But, you know, I didn't get my license until I
- 7:29Speaker 4: was like late 20s.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Late 20s, yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 5: So you've only had it for just over like 10 years.
- 7:34Speaker 2: About 14.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Yeah, when I started driving, I got a job in film.
- 7:40Speaker 3: I must have told this before, but got a job
- 7:43Speaker 3: in film, which was as a runner, which is driving. Yes.
- 7:47Speaker 3: And they dropped me off a van, and I didn't
- 7:50Speaker 3: have my licence. And they said, oh, she turned up,
- 7:53Speaker 3: she dropped the van, and she goes, I forgot to
- 7:55Speaker 3: bring the paperwork for you to fill out with your
- 7:57Speaker 3: licence details on it. I'll get it dropped off to you.
- 8:00Speaker 3: That was working on Return of the King. They never
- 8:02Speaker 3: had it dropped off to me. I drove without a licence.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Your beauty. And then I started on King Kong. And
- 8:09Speaker 3: the day that I started King Kong, I ended up
- 8:11Speaker 3: with my full licence. And they came over. They had
- 8:14Speaker 3: the piece of paper that time.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Oh, Lordy.
- 8:18Speaker 4: And I've told you guys this, but the listeners won't
- 8:20Speaker 4: know this. One of my girls was a runner. She
- 8:23Speaker 4: got a job as a runner.
- 8:24Speaker 5: On a movie set?
- 8:25Speaker 2: On a movie, yeah, yeah.
- 8:26Speaker 4: And she... had only just got her licence. Well, she'd
- 8:30Speaker 4: had it for a little while, but anyway. So she
- 8:33Speaker 4: had a couple of days of working with the other
- 8:35Speaker 4: runner and the other runner was showing her how it
- 8:37Speaker 4: works and this is what you need to do.
- 8:39Speaker 2: So she went sweet as, same thing, first day they
- 8:41Speaker 2: gave her a van. Yeah. And she was like, oh, fuck,
- 8:44Speaker 2: I don't even know. Yeah, yeah. Oh, I can't remember what,
- 8:48Speaker 2: I think it might have been automatic, so that was fine.
- 8:50Speaker 2: She was like, okay.
- 8:51Speaker 4: So she had to go and pick up all the
- 8:52Speaker 4: shit from Bunnings and so they... She had to drive
- 8:57Speaker 4: into Bunnings. You know, there's a place where people trade. Yeah,
- 9:00Speaker 4: the hardware store. Trade is going. It was just her
- 9:04Speaker 4: first day as a runner. And she goes around the corner.
- 9:07Speaker 4: And there's another guy who had parked. And he shouldn't
- 9:10Speaker 4: have been parked there, first and foremost. And he admitted
- 9:13Speaker 4: that himself. She goes around the corner and all she
- 9:17Speaker 4: hears is this. And she just wiped the van clean.
- 9:23Speaker 4: around this guy's car, and she took this magnificent photo
- 9:30Speaker 4: of her on her first day as a runner, and
- 9:33Speaker 4: there's like three guys in high viz and a massive-looking dude,
- 9:38Speaker 4: tradie-looking dude with his hands on his waist, and said,
- 9:42Speaker 4: guess what I've just fucking done?
- 9:45Speaker 5: She's cut the corner there.
- 9:45Speaker 3: So you're saying that the car shouldn't have been there,
- 9:48Speaker 3: but she still saw the car and probably shouldn't have
- 9:49Speaker 3: driven into it?
- 9:50Speaker 1: Well.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Actually, it wasn't her fault, actually, as it turns out,
- 9:54Speaker 4: because where he parked his car, you weren't allowed to
- 9:57Speaker 4: park there, and she'd come around the corner, and that's
- 9:59Speaker 4: why she scraped.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Him, because she wasn't expecting a car to be there.
- 10:04Speaker 4: But she, you know, and then this guy was like, yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 4: totally my fucking fault, and then hounded her day in
- 10:11Speaker 4: and day out for insurance details and blah, blah, blah,
- 10:13Speaker 4: and she was just freaking out.
- 10:15Speaker 2: But we got through it.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Good on you, mate.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And she was brilliant at it in the end. Fan
- 10:20Speaker 2: of the Hauraki Big Show podcast?
- 10:22Speaker 3: Make sure you check out more from Jase, Mike and
- 10:24Speaker 3: Keezy on their Instagram and TikTok at Hauraki Big Show.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Or tune in to them four to seven every weekday
- 10:31Speaker 2: on Radio Hauraki. Thanks, mate. Actually, just on the runner front, Keezy. Yeah.
- 10:37Speaker 4: I reckon you should be the big show runner. You know,
- 10:39Speaker 4: if we need like snacks and stuff.
- 10:42Speaker 2: We'll go Keezy.
- 10:43Speaker 3: That'll be a step up for you, man.
- 10:44Speaker 4: And we'll get you like a little zip zip. And
- 10:47Speaker 4: you can go and do little running runs. Since you
- 10:51Speaker 4: love cars.
- 10:51Speaker 3: You'd love that.
- 10:52Speaker 2: You'd be into it, wouldn't you?
- 10:53Speaker 5: Would I?
- 10:54Speaker 2: So we could be like mid-show and we'd go, Keezy.
- 10:57Speaker 2: That's such a good idea. Go and pick us up some,
- 11:00Speaker 2: and we'll give you the cash.
- 11:00Speaker 5: Mid-show.
- 11:01Speaker 2: We'll give you cash.
- 11:02Speaker 5: Who the hell is going to push the buttons for
- 11:04Speaker 5: you two?
- 11:04Speaker 2: Mate, I can take that part over.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Yeah, right.
- 11:06Speaker 2: No worries.
- 11:07Speaker 5: If anything, one of you two should be the runner.
- 11:09Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 11:10Speaker 5: Because you need me there to make the show work.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Hardly, Keezy.
- 11:13Speaker 5: You can be like, hey, hoity.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Any fool can do that.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Be like, actually, Mogi, I'm quite hungry. Could you go
- 11:20Speaker 5: and get us all some wedges?
- 11:22Speaker 3: I am actually quite hungry, though. I wonder what I'm
- 11:24Speaker 3: going to have.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I had burgers last night for dinner, which was really nice.
- 11:30Speaker 4: And we had one left over today, so I had
- 11:31Speaker 4: a burger for lunch.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Delicious. Delicious.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Were they any good?
- 11:36Speaker 2: But, yeah, really nice patties. Delicious. But then my body
- 11:42Speaker 2: went into a kind of weird revolt.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Oh, you shit yourself.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I was getting fucking cramps.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Did you poo yourself?
- 11:46Speaker 2: No, I didn't shit myself, but I felt like I could.
- 11:49Speaker 3: It's normal for someone your age to start shitting themselves.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Is it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It starts now.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Well, I have started looking at adult nappies.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Well, yeah, because you're a bit of an arse bandit.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Oh, Casey. He's been waiting this whole podcast for that,
- 12:02Speaker 2: hasn't he?
- 12:03Speaker 1: No.
- 12:03Speaker 2: We were talking about arse bandits before the podcast. Well,
- 12:07Speaker 2: you guys were. Here's his opportunity. He chucks in the
- 12:12Speaker 2: old arse bandit.
- 12:12Speaker 6: Well, you said that everyone used to call you an
- 12:14Speaker 6: arse bandit at high school.
- 12:15Speaker 2: No, I didn't, KZ. Yes, you did.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I said everyone used to use the phrase arse bandit.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Oh, is that what you said? KZ, you arse bandit. Yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 5: You were saying off air, remember?
- 12:28Speaker 3: I just don't think we should be using that terminology now.
- 12:31Speaker 7: No.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Oh, no, no, no, no, no. No. Probably delete that actually, Keezy.
- 12:35Speaker 5: Nah, it's fine.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Your Hauraki Big Show Keezy Word of the Day is....
- 12:43Speaker 5: Bandit.
- 12:45Speaker 6: Just a bandit with no other words.
- 12:48Speaker 1: No other.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I just described the visuals. Mike's got a new phone today.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Well, yeah.
- 12:56Speaker 2: He's just.
- 12:56Speaker 3: No, this is my old phone.
- 12:58Speaker 2: No, that's your old one. He's just trying to get
- 13:00Speaker 2: it to work.
- 13:00Speaker 3: I've got a new one that doesn't appear to be working.
- 13:03Speaker 5: You're stressing me out with that, to be honest, Mike.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Why is that?
- 13:06Speaker 5: Ever since I've got a new phone, I always do
- 13:08Speaker 5: a full... 12-hour overnight charge first, then start it up.
- 13:11Speaker 5: It's just something that's been in my brain since I
- 13:13Speaker 5: got my first Nokia.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Actually, that's apparently what we had to do with our vacuum. What? Oh,
- 13:18Speaker 2: we got this Dyson. One of those.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 13:20Speaker 2: One of those Dysons.
- 13:22Speaker 4: And it was charging. And our carpets were just... And
- 13:25Speaker 4: I love vacuuming, by the way. I fucking love vacuuming.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Genuinely. And it was charging and my wife was like, no!
- 13:32Speaker 2: And I just kept wanting to use it. She said,
- 13:34Speaker 2: you have to fully charge it.
- 13:35Speaker 5: The very first time.
- 13:37Speaker 2: All the first time. And it took 12 hours.
- 13:40Speaker 5: Yeah, do it overnight.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Easy.
- 13:42Speaker 3: No, it was fully charged when I got it. That
- 13:45Speaker 3: was something that occurred to me. But the bars were
- 13:47Speaker 3: fully barred up. I'm sure it's fine, mate. I just
- 13:50Speaker 3: don't know how to use it. It'll be a shambles
- 13:52Speaker 3: for a while.
