- 0:00Speaker 0: Hello everyone, welcome to my edition of the BJ Footy Show for round 21.
- 0:06Speaker 0: I am Adam Bower, your host for this episode, and the round has just finished.
- 0:11Speaker 0: Freeman and Carlton has just gone.
- 0:13Speaker 0: Final.
- 0:13Speaker 0: As I am recording this, we will get to that at the end of the round.
- 0:17Speaker 0: We are going to start, as always, on the Thursday night.
- 0:20Speaker 0: As usual, our Thursday night game this week was Western Bulldogs versus GWS.
- 0:24Speaker 0: This one was very, very one-sided, very much from the beginning.
- 0:30Speaker 0: Early doors, Bulldogs just took over GWS, never in the contest.
- 0:34Speaker 0: Quarter time six goals, five to one goal.
- 0:38Speaker 0: Two.
- 0:38Speaker 0: Another six goals in the second quarter for the Doggies.
- 0:40Speaker 0: Gws only scored two there.
- 0:42Speaker 0: So already including behind behind already a 10 goal lead at halftime for Western Bulldogs and then just pretty much more of the same in the second.
- 0:50Speaker 0: Four goals in the third quarter for Western Bulldogs and then three for GWS.
- 0:56Speaker 0: Three in the final quarter for Western Bulldogs and no goals.
- 1:00Speaker 0: Only two points in the final quarter for GWS.
- 1:03Speaker 0: So this is a big one.
- 1:04Speaker 0: This does shake the ladder up a little bit.
- 1:07Speaker 0: We'll get to that later on.
- 1:08Speaker 0: But the Bulldogs, most importantly, have now got a bit more percentage.
- 1:12Speaker 0: Gws' percentage also gets blown apart by this.
- 1:14Speaker 0: Bulldogs still have a slim hope of qualifying for finals with destiny in their own hands, but, as I said, it is a slim hope.
- 1:22Speaker 0: Gws should be disappointed by this, even without toby green.
- 1:26Speaker 0: You know this is.
- 1:27Speaker 0: This is not a performance expected of a team who are looking at finals and thinking that they are going to be in finals.
- 1:33Speaker 0: Because now gws we have a look at the ladder.
- 1:35Speaker 0: Now they are the team on the bubble.
- 1:37Speaker 0: They are on 52 points, 111.3 percent and the Doggies only now need a game.
- 1:44Speaker 0: They are over 26 points percentage points clear on that matter as well.
- 1:50Speaker 0: So Doggies win another GWS loss.
- 1:53Speaker 0: Doggies win with GWS fall out and put Hawthorne on the bubble there on GWS.
- 2:00Speaker 0: So I heard someone say that they weren't at the races.
- 2:03Speaker 0: That's wrong.
- 2:04Speaker 0: That is, that is wrong.
- 2:06Speaker 0: Gws were at the races, they weren't at the footy and that's how we get to this position for them.
- 2:10Speaker 0: I don't know how how this happened.
- 2:12Speaker 0: You know you're playing for finals.
- 2:14Speaker 0: You've got to be on your game, even with your best players out, but they're just not there.
- 2:18Speaker 0: Doggies know what they have to do.
- 2:19Speaker 0: They do their job expertly.
- 2:21Speaker 0: They get the win not here.
- 2:22Speaker 0: That can be said negatively for the Doggies as they move on towards probably punching their ticket at least a step closer to punching their ticket to September.
- 2:33Speaker 0: Now we're going to have a look at the player of the game and any triple doubles that there is.
- 2:37Speaker 0: So the triple double we have a triple double from this game.
- 2:40Speaker 0: It's Lockie Ash from GWS 36 touches, 25 kicks, 11 handballs, 12 marks.
- 2:46Speaker 0: My player of the game will be from Western Bulldogs.
- 2:50Speaker 0: It'll be Aaron Norton 113 AFL fantasy five goals, 20 touches, 12 kicks, 8 handballs, 8 marks, 1 tackle and 1 hit out as well for Aaron Norton.
- 3:02Speaker 0: Jump to the Adelaide Oval for Friday night Football between Adelaide and Hawthorne.
- 3:08Speaker 0: And this one.
- 3:09Speaker 0: I was very, very worried for the Crows at the beginning, hawthorne coming out of the blocks really strong with a five goals for one opening quarter.
- 3:16Speaker 0: But then it all changed.
- 3:19Speaker 0: For Adelaide Hawthorne blanked in the second quarter, no goals, no points.
- 3:24Speaker 0: For Hawthorne, adelaide goingthorne blanked.
- 3:25Speaker 0: In the second quarter no goals, no points.
- 3:26Speaker 0: For Hawthorne.
- 3:26Speaker 0: Adelaide going 6-6 in that second quarter.
- 3:29Speaker 0: Definitely could have been more, but that trend continued into the second half, while scoring at one end, adelaide with two goals in the third, hawthorne adding six back in the third.
- 3:42Speaker 0: Then in the final quarter, adelaide with six of their own two Hawthorns, two goals.
- 3:47Speaker 0: So all the scoring was at one end of the ground all night and that really proved to be the difference, all the scoring down at that cathedral end of Adelaide over Hawthorn.
- 3:58Speaker 0: Now that loss really puts them in a little bit of jeopardy for qualifying for finals.
- 4:02Speaker 0: They are seventh at the moment with the loss.
- 4:04Speaker 0: Adelaide, with the win and results going their way elsewhere, finished the round on top of the table.
- 4:10Speaker 0: So adelaide, with a big win and some big games coming up, adelaide looking to hold that minor premiership place.
- 4:16Speaker 0: My player of the game here, in this one from adelaide, is jordan dawson 125 AFL Fantasy 2 goals, 21 touches, 12 kicks, 9 handballs, 4 marks and 12 tackles.
- 4:29Speaker 0: We will check for triple doubles and there was none in this game.
- 4:34Speaker 0: So Adelaide now, with that big win, played a really good game, knew the wind was going in one direction, didn't panic.
- 4:41Speaker 0: In the start of the second quarter took the game back to their hands.
- 4:44Speaker 0: Hawthorne really let it slip, although, as I said, it was a one-way game.
- 4:48Speaker 0: But Hawthorne should have probably closed this game out a bit better when they had opportunities to put the game away.
- 4:53Speaker 0: I mean, elite AFL footballers should be able to play two modes of footy.
- 4:56Speaker 0: They should know that.
- 4:57Speaker 0: You know, long bombs at one end is what's effective.
- 5:00Speaker 0: Short, deliberate passing at the other end is what's needed.
- 5:02Speaker 0: Neither team really did that and that's how we get all the scoring at one end but adelaide with the win.
- 5:08Speaker 0: They go to top of the pile.
- 5:11Speaker 0: Time to go to the saturday football now.
- 5:13Speaker 0: For this round there are four games this week.
- 5:16Speaker 0: We have first of all melbourne versus west coast and this one was really really one-sided, much like some of the other games.
- 5:23Speaker 0: We're going to see this round much like western bulldogs versus gws as well.
- 5:27Speaker 0: As we've already discussed from the thursday night, melbourne coming out here just absolutely dominating west coast.
- 5:33Speaker 0: Much, much better performance across the board from melbourne, especially in these close moments when the game started.
- 5:39Speaker 0: That was it.
- 5:40Speaker 0: Then it was all melbourne, but much more composed melbourne, never really looking like letting west Coast back into the game, never really should have let West Coast back into the game at any time at all.
- 5:50Speaker 0: Game really cruised in the second half.
- 5:52Speaker 0: So Melbourne played that brilliant, brilliant third quarter.
- 5:55Speaker 0: 10 goals in the quarter, a lot of scoring in that third quarter.
- 5:59Speaker 0: 10 goals for Melbourne, three goals for West Coast in that third quarter.
- 6:02Speaker 0: So a very, very big quarter there for both sides.
- 6:04Speaker 0: That it was one of the biggest quarter of the game, melbourne in this one winning by 83 points.
- 6:10Speaker 0: Our final scores here Melbourne 12, 13, 39, west Coast 8, 8, 56.
- 6:16Speaker 0: Much better from Melbourne.
- 6:17Speaker 0: West Coast still not quite there.
- 6:20Speaker 0: They are quite dangerous at times, not to others but to themselves.
- 6:24Speaker 0: West coast, unfortunately can't seem to get off of one win.
- 6:28Speaker 0: They have three more opportunities to get wins for the year, or it just will be the singular one win.
- 6:34Speaker 0: There are, there are some moments where I think west coast, though, do turn a corner, and then there are some moments where I think they just take a straight u-turn and they go backwards as well, which is unfortunately.
- 6:44Speaker 0: I've got a good young list.
- 6:45Speaker 0: I've got harley reed.
- 6:47Speaker 0: They need to do something with him.
- 6:48Speaker 0: He is not performing to the level.
- 6:50Speaker 0: I think that he's capable as an individual and I think also being at west coast isn't helping him either, but he needs to step up as an individual to help them out.
- 6:59Speaker 0: Player of the game here.
- 7:01Speaker 0: In this one melbourne versus west coast we go to Max Gorn and Christian Salem.
- 7:06Speaker 0: They are my two players of the game in this one.
- 7:09Speaker 0: Max Gorn 113 AFL Fantasy one goal 21 touches, eight kicks, 13 handballs, eight marks, one tackle, 29 hit outs.
- 7:17Speaker 0: Christian Salem also 113 AFL Fantasy 30 touches, 26 kicks, 12 handballs, nine marks, 2 tackles.
- 7:23Speaker 0: For Christian Salem Checked if there are any triple doubles to be put down, and there is none in this game.
- 7:32Speaker 0: Now we move to another blowout.
- 7:34Speaker 0: Unfortunately it was blowout score this week.
- 7:37Speaker 0: This Saturday, especially in the afternoon, we go to Gold Coast versus Richmond and we go to what was a very, very dreadful performance from Richmond.
- 7:48Speaker 0: Final scores in this one Gold Coast 16-11, 107, richmond 2-11, 23.
- 7:53Speaker 0: Gold Coast win in the first quarter.
- 7:56Speaker 0: Gold Coast in the first quarter 4-1, 26,.
- 7:59Speaker 0: Beats Richmond at.
- 8:01Speaker 0: Do not need to play.
- 8:02Speaker 0: Gold Coast could have just stopped scoring at quarter time, not tried to score ever again and still won that game.
- 8:06Speaker 0: And that is very, very unfortunate for Richmond.
- 8:09Speaker 0: That you know all that hard work sort of come undone in the last couple of weeks.
- 8:13Speaker 0: Couple of blowouts, couple of scores.
- 8:16Speaker 0: We had some very good moments the last month or so, but now it's got to just come undone.
- 8:20Speaker 0: We could just see it, maybe a little bit towards the end of the Collingwood game, but this was a whole new level of low for Richmond.
- 8:27Speaker 0: Gold Coast, a genuine top six article Getting the win here.
- 8:37Speaker 0: No complacency, no remorse from Gold Coast and they win this one quite comfortably.
- 8:39Speaker 0: Not really much reason to stick around at many of these games.
- 8:40Speaker 0: Player of the game for Gold Coast versus Richmond is Noah Anderson.
- 8:44Speaker 0: Anderson 123 AFL Fantasy, 38 touches, 19 kicks, 9 handballs, 5 marks, 4 tackles and just confirming to see if there was any triple doubles and there was one triple double in this game Mac Andrew 103 AFL Fantasy for Mac Andrew 1 goal, 24 touches, 14 kicks, 10 handballs, 11 marks.
- 9:06Speaker 0: For the big defender for Gold Coast.
- 9:07Speaker 0: We now move to the SCG in Sydney for Sydney versus Essendon, and this one was one that I think a lot of people skipped over.
- 9:16Speaker 0: I did as well and really at the end of the day it wasn't a great contest, sydney winning by 14 points 9-14, 68-7, to 7, 12, 54, being at home at the scg swans putting on that performance over the bombers.
- 9:31Speaker 0: And it's one of these games where both these teams are out of contention.
- 9:36Speaker 0: Sydney probably win just because they're the better side.
- 9:38Speaker 0: You know they played.
- 9:39Speaker 0: They played a good game.
- 9:40Speaker 0: They beat essendon.
- 9:40Speaker 0: Okay, essendon's got so many hours.
- 9:42Speaker 0: They debuted another player this week.
- 9:44Speaker 0: So I think there's up to 14 now for the Bombers this year, but there's not really much to be said.
- 9:49Speaker 0: Sydney just sort of riding the ship for next year at this point of the year.
- 9:53Speaker 0: Essendon, I think that they're going back down.
- 9:55Speaker 0: I think that they're going to be a bottom 14 for the next couple of years, coming from this year and into 2026, 2027, possibly even.
- 10:04Speaker 0: Even if he doesn't ask for a trade, I'd be actively trading Merritt away saying look, mate, you know we are going to be, you know, essentially tanking at this point because we need to refresh the list and thank you for your service.
- 10:20Speaker 0: We want you to play elsewhere.
- 10:23Speaker 0: We want you to contend for a premiership.
- 10:24Speaker 0: You've done so well for us that you know it is only morally right that we allow you to go contend for a premiership.
- 10:30Speaker 0: So that would be my key move for ascension in the offseason.
- 10:42Speaker 0: But this game it was on saturday, it happened, it's over.
- 10:43Speaker 0: We can move on from this.
- 10:44Speaker 0: One player of the game for this one goes to brodie grundy 150 afl fantasy 39 touches, 11 kicks, 28 hand passes, 8 marks.
- 10:50Speaker 0: One tackle 32 head outs for the Sydney Ruckman.
- 10:54Speaker 0: I'm just confirming if there are any triple doubles in this game?
- 10:57Speaker 0: There are none.
- 10:58Speaker 0: Now we move to the big game on the night of Saturday football.
- 11:04Speaker 0: That allowed us to have this game, thankfully, as a standalone contest Collingwood versus Brisbane at the MCG.
- 11:11Speaker 0: This was going to be one of the big games this round, alongside of Adelaide versus Hawthorne, and it was actually Brisbane who won in the end by 27 points.
- 11:23Speaker 0: Final scores Collingwood 10-5, 65, brisbane 14-8, 92.
- 11:27Speaker 0: So both teams with a positive score differentials, just Brisbane again more shots a goal.
- 11:33Speaker 0: So even if we extrapolate Collingwoods, I think that they are going to be a very close game.
- 11:38Speaker 0: But Brisbane, just those more shots on goal in the end, giving them a 27 point win over the Pies.
- 11:44Speaker 0: Brisbane helping Adelaide retain top spot on the ladder and also means now Brisbane closed to a half game.
- 11:52Speaker 0: On Collingwood.
- 11:53Speaker 0: This was a game that played a big hand in the top shaping of the top four, shaping of the top eight.
- 11:59Speaker 0: Come the end of the year we will get to the latter after we go through all the games here this round and preview next round as well.
- 12:06Speaker 0: But Lions definitely are a genuine team, crows are definitely a genuine team.
- 12:11Speaker 0: I think Collingwood are still a genuine team and I think Geelong might be in that mix as well, and maybe also Fremantle and Velcro would be my six top teams this year.
- 12:20Speaker 0: Collingwood will go through this game.
- 12:22Speaker 0: Brisbane first quarter very well played.
- 12:24Speaker 0: Collingwood come back in the second quarter.
- 12:26Speaker 0: Then all the second half it just goes away from Collingwood and Brisbane just ever so slowly build that lead over the second half.
- 12:34Speaker 0: Getting the win in this one for the Lion, faithful in the grand final replay.
- 12:39Speaker 0: My player of the game for this match is Shima Kovic of Brisbane 119 AFL fantasy, 34 touches, 18 kicks, 16 handballs, 3 marks and 7 tackles, and I will confirm if there are any triple doubles this game, and there are none.
- 12:52Speaker 0: This was a.
- 12:53Speaker 0: I was hoping for a much better contest in the second half from these sides.
- 12:57Speaker 0: Brisbane, though, all round a much better side than Collingwood on the night, and those nights can happen.
- 13:02Speaker 0: So well done to Brisbane.
- 13:03Speaker 0: Unfortunately, collingwood, you do lose top spot.
- 13:06Speaker 0: You played a pretty much near perfect season but you now lose top spot to the rampant red hot Adelaide Crows we spot, to the rampant red hot adelaide crows.
- 13:17Speaker 0: We now jump into the sunday action and we start our sunday action of the round with st kilda versus north melbourne from marvel, thank so st kilda back at the place where the magic happened last week against melbourne.
- 13:25Speaker 0: They do hold on against north melbourne, as north were closing in that final quarter.
- 13:30Speaker 0: Final Final scores in this one St Kilda 11-12.
- 13:33Speaker 0: 78.
- 13:34Speaker 0: North Melbourne 10-9.
- 13:35Speaker 0: 69.
- 13:35Speaker 0: St Kilda your winners by 9 points.
- 13:38Speaker 0: North Melbourne, though, started very, very good in that first quarter, especially first quarter and opening part of the second quarter, before St Kilda, just back into the second quarter, started.
- 13:47Speaker 0: The third quarter, took control, Took the game into their hands.
- 13:51Speaker 0: Leeds were never that big, was always swinging around.
- 13:56Speaker 0: Three goals, all between you know.
- 13:58Speaker 0: A goal, two goals, three goals, all game.
- 13:59Speaker 0: Biggest lead of the game was three-quarter time lead for St Kilda.
- 14:03Speaker 0: And then North Melbourne do come back in that final quarter St Kilda one goal, one goal, one.
- 14:07Speaker 0: In the final quarter North Melbourne three goals, three.
- 14:09Speaker 0: Just not enough to take down St Kilda in this one.
- 14:13Speaker 0: But a much, much better effort from North Melbourne this week.
- 14:16Speaker 0: And this is what they can do when they put their mind to it.
- 14:19Speaker 0: They can go and be competitive in games.
- 14:22Speaker 0: I think that North Melbourne, right now, as they close out the year, just look to be competitive.
- 14:25Speaker 0: I don't expect you to win anything, but be competitive in the season in the season, on a high night for your supporters.
- 14:32Speaker 0: St Kilda Another week, another win for them this season, again their season's over.
- 14:36Speaker 0: They're down in 14th.
- 14:37Speaker 0: At the same token, it's always nice to just go out on a winning form.
- 14:42Speaker 0: So St Kilda, north Melbourne, both looking to just go out on winning form and not just have total utter disasters in the final three weeks of the season.
- 14:51Speaker 0: Player of the game in this one from St Kilda, is Messiah Wanganin.
- 14:56Speaker 0: Malara 108 AFL Fantasy 36 touches, 24 kicks, 12 handballs, 3 marks and 1 tackle.
- 15:03Speaker 0: Have a look for any triple doubles.
- 15:05Speaker 0: Nothing to show on that regard for this one.
- 15:09Speaker 0: Now we come to another absolute car wreck at Cajunia Park.
- 15:13Speaker 0: Geelong absolutely handling and belting the life out of a disappointing.
- 15:19Speaker 0: Port adelaide geelong 23, 15, 153.
- 15:23Speaker 0: Port adelaide 9, 11, 65.
- 15:25Speaker 0: Geelong winning this one by 88 points.
- 15:28Speaker 0: Not really much to see here.
- 15:29Speaker 0: Geelong, business as usual for them.
- 15:31Speaker 0: Jeremy cameron adding six more on his chase of a ton.
- 15:35Speaker 0: Do I think he can get it in the final three weeks?
- 15:37Speaker 0: He's on 75, he needs 25.
- 15:39Speaker 0: He's going to need final to get that 100 goals.
- 15:41Speaker 0: And in order to get that 100 goals, geelong will probably have to go on a deep, deep finals run they are going to.
- 15:47Speaker 0: If they keep form like this, they will get the double chance.
- 15:50Speaker 0: They will probably need to also get a prelim at least, because that gives him seven games for 25 goals at grand final.
- 15:57Speaker 0: Sorry, that gives him six games.
- 15:58Speaker 0: Now, 25 goals at grand final With a qualifying final loss at grand final gives him seven games to get that 25 goals.
- 16:07Speaker 0: I think he can do it in six.
- 16:09Speaker 0: So Port Adelaide, very, very dismal, disappointing end of the year.
- 16:13Speaker 0: Showdown, showdown loss was bad, this one even worse.
- 16:15Speaker 0: You know, two bad losses in a row for the power.
- 16:19Speaker 0: You know it's sad to see Ken Hinkley go out like this.
- 16:22Speaker 0: It really is.
- 16:23Speaker 0: I think that Ken Hinkley just doesn't deserve this.
- 16:24Speaker 0: I think that as stubborn and as belligerent as Port was about all of this, I think based on where they were at their bye, they should have just said thank you, ken.
- 16:32Speaker 0: Let Josh Hart have the reins for the second half.
- 16:34Speaker 0: It wouldn't have been as bad.
- 16:36Speaker 0: I mean I feel bad for Ken at this point.
- 16:38Speaker 0: This is not how a coach of his stature should go out.
- 16:41Speaker 0: He never got over that final hurdle of making a grand final, but you know he's been a poor one for so long now.
- 16:46Speaker 0: He deserves so much better than from the players.
- 16:50Speaker 0: This is just an unacceptable stand for him to go out on, in my opinion.
- 16:53Speaker 0: But Geelong the much better side on the day.
- 16:56Speaker 0: My player of the game in this one is going to be Max Holmes, who had 35 touches, 2 goals, 136 AFL fans, 25 kicks, 10 handballs, 7 marks and 2 tackles.
- 17:08Speaker 0: Check the marks column.
- 17:09Speaker 0: Check the tackles column.
- 17:10Speaker 0: There is no one with a triple-double in this game either.
- 17:16Speaker 0: So only a couple of triple-doubles so far this week.
- 17:19Speaker 0: Now we move on to the final game of round 21, which is between Fremantle and Carlton.
- 17:25Speaker 0: So Fremantle, you know, slow out of the blocks in this one.
- 17:28Speaker 0: Carlton five goals straight in the first quarter.
- 17:30Speaker 0: Fremantle only two of their own.
- 17:32Speaker 0: Carlton goals straight in the first quarter, fremantle only two of their own.
- 17:33Speaker 0: Carlton.
- 17:34Speaker 0: Second quarter again very strong Three goal one.
- 17:35Speaker 0: Fremantle, two goal one.
- 17:36Speaker 0: That's where it stops for Carlton.
- 17:38Speaker 0: Unfortunately, carlton only able to kick one goal in each of the second half quarters.
- 17:44Speaker 0: So third quarter one goal.
- 17:45Speaker 0: Fourth quarter one goal for Carlton.
- 17:47Speaker 0: Fremantle running over them with an 11 goal.
- 17:56Speaker 0: Second half, four in the third quarter and then seven in the last to absolutely take the game away from Carlton in the end.
- 17:59Speaker 0: Your final scores in this one Fremantle 15-4, 94,.
- 18:02Speaker 0: Carlton 10-7, 27.
- 18:04Speaker 0: So sorry, 10-7, 67.
- 18:05Speaker 0: Fremantle winners here by 67.
- 18:07Speaker 0: Both teams again positive score differential, fremantle at the end showing much better class.
- 18:11Speaker 0: And I think this is how Fremantle at the end showing much better class, and I think this is how Fremantle has to play.
- 18:14Speaker 0: You know a very fast, very attacking brand of footy where they also do blend their very well worked conservative ball movement but with speed it pays off in the end.
- 18:25Speaker 0: You know, 15-4.
- 18:26Speaker 0: That's a pretty much a 1-1, 3-1 ratio for Fremantle.
- 18:30Speaker 0: Carlton 10-7 as well.
- 18:31Speaker 0: Positive score differential.
- 18:32Speaker 0: Can't say much there.
- 18:33Speaker 0: Unfortunately, carlton right now just don't have the numbers to go with a top side like Fremantle at this stage of the season.
- 18:40Speaker 0: So, with that being said, this was a great win for Fremantle.
- 18:43Speaker 0: Keeps them in the in the finals mix.
- 18:46Speaker 0: They're pretty much guaranteed finals at this point.
- 18:49Speaker 0: But they have percentage.
- 18:50Speaker 0: They have decent percentage.
- 18:51Speaker 0: They have.
- 18:52Speaker 0: They have fifth spot at the moment.
- 18:53Speaker 0: So at the moment they would have a home elimination final.
- 18:56Speaker 0: Can they close on that top four?
- 18:58Speaker 0: They're only outside of the four by a game, so anything can happen.
- 19:03Speaker 0: Definitely could jump into that four as well for Fremantle.
- 19:07Speaker 0: Player of the game.
- 19:08Speaker 0: For Fremantle versus Carlton it has to be Luke Jackson 106 AFL Fantasy.
- 19:16Speaker 0: One goal, seven kicks, 20 handballs, one mark and five tackles.
- 19:18Speaker 0: It's confirming there are no triple doubles and there's none in Fremantle versus Carlton, so only a few triple doubles to have on the board this week.
- 19:27Speaker 0: Look ahead to round 22 and then I'll give you a full rundown of the top eight and the permutations regarding finishing position.
- 19:37Speaker 0: Thursday night, round 22 Hawthorne vs Collingwood.
- 19:39Speaker 0: This is a very interesting game.
- 19:41Speaker 0: Hawthorne playing okay, collingwood also on a little bit of a skitter as well.
- 19:46Speaker 0: So both teams having a slide.
- 19:47Speaker 0: Although I am going to take the pies in this one, collingwood to win by four goals, as it's the first game there is your Margera For 109,.
- 19:56Speaker 0: Oh dear God, this is going to be an absolute car wreck.
- 20:00Speaker 0: Geelong versus Essendon at Kadinia Park, essendon.
- 20:05Speaker 0: I can't even believe the betting lines in this one.
- 20:08Speaker 0: Essendon are paying $21 for the win in this one.
- 20:13Speaker 0: That is absolute car wreck.
- 20:16Speaker 0: Country Geelong by more than a country mile.
- 20:21Speaker 0: Geelong by more than the distance between Adelaide and Melbourne.
- 20:24Speaker 0: Geelong by more than the length and breadth of this country.
- 20:27Speaker 0: That is how bad this one is going to get Saturday.
- 20:29Speaker 0: We started with Richmond versus St Kilda.
- 20:31Speaker 0: I think very close game here, although St Kilda just a little bit more on form at the moment.
- 20:36Speaker 0: Richmond absolutely got blown out last week, so this one goes the way of St Kilda.
- 20:41Speaker 0: Then we have Brisbane versus Sydney.
- 20:42Speaker 0: This one, brisbane much better side at the moment.
- 20:45Speaker 0: Sydney they do have a win against Essendon, but as we saw the line fares down against Geelong, it doesn't really account for much.
- 20:51Speaker 0: So I'm going to take Brisbane in this one.
- 20:53Speaker 0: Carleton versus Gold Coast from Marvel Stadium this one, I think, is going to be a much closer game than I think people are expecting, but it will be Gold Coast winning here.
- 21:02Speaker 0: Now we have the Adelaide Oval game for this week.
- 21:04Speaker 0: On Saturday night it's Port Adelaide versus Fremantle.
- 21:07Speaker 0: Port Adelaide are probably going to put up a real good fight, or they are going to put up a real good fight, but Fremantle too strong in the end there in this one.
- 21:15Speaker 0: So Fremantle over Port Adelaide on Saturday night in Adelaide Oval.
- 21:18Speaker 0: Saturday we go to GWS versus North Melbourne.
- 21:21Speaker 0: This one is from the Monaco Oval in Canberra and this one is again probably going to end up as a one-way traffic going to GWS.
- 21:31Speaker 0: Now this is probably, aside from Hawthorne, collingwood.
- 21:36Speaker 0: This is probably the game of the round in terms of just how even these two sides are.
- 21:40Speaker 0: It's Melbourne and Western Bulldogs, western Bulldogs needing to win to keep destiny in their own hands in the final fortnight.
- 21:48Speaker 0: Melbourne very good Mir couldn't close against St Kilda but absolutely dominated West Coast last round.
- 21:55Speaker 0: This one, though, due to circumstances of the Doggies position, they will come out firing again and they will win this one.
- 22:01Speaker 0: Then the Sunday late game for the round is West Coast versus Adelaide, and this is going to be Adelaide by a lot.
- 22:09Speaker 0: They are playing for top spot, they are playing for the minor premiership, west Coast playing for 100,000 members, which I think right now is a very questionable number.
- 22:20Speaker 0: But it will be Adelaide in this one by quite some way.
- 22:24Speaker 0: Much better side here.
- 22:26Speaker 0: So I'll go through these tips again and then we'll get on to the latter.
- 22:29Speaker 0: So Houghton versus Collingwood, collingwood, geelong versus Essendon Geelong.
- 22:34Speaker 0: Richmond versus St Kilda, st Kilda.
- 22:36Speaker 0: Brisbane versus Sydney, brisbane.
- 22:37Speaker 0: Carlton versus Gold Coast, gold Coast Point.
- 22:40Speaker 0: Adelaide versus Fremantle, fremantle G.
- 22:42Speaker 0: Gws versus North Melbourne, gws.
- 22:44Speaker 0: Melbourne versus Western Bulldogs, western Bulldogs.
- 22:46Speaker 0: West Coast versus Adelaide, adelaide.
- 22:48Speaker 0: Now we have a look to close out this episode with a look at the latter.
- 22:53Speaker 0: So Adelaide to win out.
- 22:55Speaker 0: If Adelaide win out from here, they will have Collingwood in round 23.
- 22:59Speaker 0: But they also have matches against West Coast and North Melbourne as well, I believe.
- 23:03Speaker 0: So a couple of easy games, and Collingwood as well.
- 23:05Speaker 0: So North Melbourne as well, I believe.
- 23:05Speaker 0: So a couple of easy games, and Collingwood as well.
- 23:07Speaker 0: So Adelaide look odds on for top four, collingwood as well, should beat Hawthorne, going to be a close one for her against Adelaide.
- 23:13Speaker 0: That one really will be the minor premiership game, I do believe.
- 23:16Speaker 0: I think that Collingwood odds on for top four as well, possibly top two for those two sides, although they do play each other, with Brisbane and Geelong closing Brisbane sides, although they do play each other, with brisbane and geelong closing brisbane half a game out with the joy they had over north melbourne earlier in the year.
- 23:31Speaker 0: Geelong's percentage is taking a big jump against because they went against puerto alaes against, like another big jump where they smash essendon into the canvas on the weekend.
- 23:37Speaker 0: So they will probably be in the mix unless anything goes dreadfully wrong there.
- 23:42Speaker 0: I think the top four is pretty much signed, still delivered.
- 23:45Speaker 0: We now go into that second four and this is where it gets more interesting who gets the home elimination finals?
- 23:52Speaker 0: Freemantle, currently on 56 points in fifth place, but with no percentage, with the worst percentage aside from gws in the in that top eight.
- 24:01Speaker 0: So freemantle, I see them be.
- 24:04Speaker 0: They do be put adelaide.
- 24:05Speaker 0: They will be, you know, dangerous come the final two weeks of the year, although I just think that the way it is they're probably they are most likely for a home elimination final.
- 24:14Speaker 0: But they have the opportunity to also sneak into top four with games played between top four sides and other results could go in their favor.
- 24:22Speaker 0: Currently in sixth is Gold Coast, on 52 points, although they have a game in hand which is against you guessed it everyone's favourite whipping boys.
- 24:31Speaker 0: Sorry, not West Coast, not Richmond, not North Melbourne, but Essendon.
- 24:34Speaker 0: That game in hand will be played after round 24.
- 24:37Speaker 0: So everything that they do up to this point add on an extra win for them.
- 24:41Speaker 0: They should have a home elimination final.
- 24:43Speaker 0: That is the ceiling for Gold Coast.
- 24:46Speaker 0: If not they will.
- 24:47Speaker 0: They should be playing finals.
- 24:48Speaker 0: I don't see them losing out with their run home.
- 24:51Speaker 0: Seventh is Hawthorne.
- 24:52Speaker 0: Now this is where things get a little bit dangerous.
- 24:54Speaker 0: So Hawthorne have Collingwood to play this week.
- 24:58Speaker 0: They've been on a bit of a slider.
- 25:00Speaker 0: A loss for them would see either with a win for GWS, gws jumping them, a loss for hawthorne and a win for bulldog sees hawthorne jump out of the eight after round 22, which is the most likely scenario.
- 25:14Speaker 0: So hawthorne is most likely to be outside the eight, or a bottom or a last two in position.
- 25:24Speaker 0: As I said, they are most likely to finish outside the eight.
- 25:26Speaker 0: At this point.
- 25:27Speaker 0: Gws with their jaw should hold.
- 25:29Speaker 0: Bulldogs should also jump into the eight.
- 25:31Speaker 0: I'm sorry hawthorne supporters, gws, as I said, they should hold.
- 25:35Speaker 0: I think they're going to scrape into that set to those away elimination final positions probably will finish seventh, seventh or eighth most likely.
- 25:42Speaker 0: I can't see them falling out of the eight with their draw but but they will either be playing Freeman or Gold Coast, most likely, or there is the possibility of Brisbane or Horseshoe as well, because Brisbane also has a very poor percentage and with that that leaves Western Bulldogs they will be the team jumping into the eight at the end of the season.
- 26:03Speaker 0: They should get in quite comfortably.
- 26:05Speaker 0: They've got percentage over Hawthorne.
- 26:07Speaker 0: They've got percentage over GWS.
- 26:08Speaker 0: They don't have games over, they've played GWS.
- 26:11Speaker 0: That's probably their toughest game in.
- 26:13Speaker 0: They have Melbourne, then they have West Coast, then they have Fremantle in Melbourne.
- 26:20Speaker 0: But I think that they could be signed, sealed, delivered, by the time the Fremantle game rolls around, as Hawthorne have Collingwood, melbourne and Brisbane as their final game, so they will be the one missing out on the eight.
- 26:34Speaker 0: Sydney technically still in play, with three games to go.
- 26:37Speaker 0: But we need to get their percentage up quite a bit.
- 26:41Speaker 0: They are on 95% and with the Bulldogs looking to jump in on 137%.
- 26:46Speaker 0: They need to jump 40% of your points.
- 26:48Speaker 0: So they would be the second out and the first team of a real gap on the table.
- 26:54Speaker 0: So we'll recap the ladder Adelaide top four.
- 26:56Speaker 0: Collingwood top four.
- 26:57Speaker 0: Brisbane likely for top four.
- 26:58Speaker 0: Geelong likely for top four.
- 27:00Speaker 0: Fremantle likely for home elimination final, possible top four.
- 27:04Speaker 0: Gold Coast Home elimination final.
- 27:06Speaker 0: Hawthorne fall out.
- 27:08Speaker 0: Gws Away elimination final.
- 27:11Speaker 0: Western Bulldogs come in for Hawthorne and have an away elimination final, although with their percentage and their games, who they're playing, it could easily be a home elimination final.
- 27:21Speaker 0: We never know.
- 27:22Speaker 0: So real attention will fall onto the second two, the last two in for this year.
- 27:29Speaker 0: Here's my look at football for round 21, 22 and a preview of the latter as we head into the final three weeks of the year, as always.
- 27:37Speaker 0: I've been your host of this episode of the BJ Footy Show, hayden Barry.
- 27:42Speaker 0: Thank you very much for listening and I'll see you next week.
