Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Fierazzo.
- 0:20As March was women's history month, and sadly today, women are at risk of being just
- 0:28that history, being erased.
- 0:31Where the voice is resisting this, recently a female student taking a gender studies class
- 0:37at the University of Cincinnati was given a failing grade, why?
- 0:42She used the term biological woman.
- 0:47Well today, we're so blessed to have Sherry Fiew.
- 0:51She's the founder and president of the United States, parents involved in education.
- 0:56That's uspie.org for those of you keeping score at home.
- 1:02Their mission is to end the U.S. Department of Education and all federal education mandates.
- 1:09U.S.P.I.E. is established 20 state chapters so far.
- 1:13She's growing rapidly, thank God, around the country.
- 1:16And that's because of the outcry from parents who want to regain control of their children's
- 1:22education.
- 1:23So Sherry is a nationally recognized leader on education policy.
- 1:27She's often quoted in conservative media.
- 1:29She spent much of the last year exposing CRT, critical race theory.
- 1:33Thank you, Sherry, and serving as the executive producer for a new documentary film.
- 1:39I love this.
- 1:40It's called Truth and Lies in American Education.
- 1:44Sherry Fiew, welcome to World View Matters.
- 1:49Thank you.
- 1:50I'm so glad to have been invited.
- 1:51Good to see you.
- 1:53And we mentioned the film and we'll get to it because one of our colleagues here at Freedom
- 1:56Project, Alex Newman, he's a part of that.
- 1:59He's actually also on your advisory board, along with Freedom Project's own Duke Pesta.
- 2:05He's, I was telling Sherry before we got started.
- 2:08If we're in the studio here, he's right outside the studio doors, down the hall, first office
- 2:13to the right.
- 2:14That's Dr. Duke Pesta.
- 2:15So Sherry, let's talk a little bit about the background.
- 2:19How long have you been president and when did you found, I should say, USPIE?
- 2:25Well, we started out as South Carolina parents of all of education, SCPI.
- 2:32And that actually began in the early 2000s and it's when my children were in government
- 2:37schools and I was concerned about what I was seeing in their curriculum.
- 2:41So even that long ago, you know, there were warning signs about the atrocious things
- 2:46that we see today.
- 2:48So it started as SCPI and then in 2010, SCPI led the fight against the Common Core Standards
- 2:54in South Carolina, the state where I live.
- 2:57And then after about a two year fight, we ended up with Common Core rebranded, as was
- 3:03the case for nearly every state in the nation who had been fighting against these national
- 3:08standards.
- 3:09So I spoke with my colleagues around the country and learned that they all had this similar
- 3:14experience, you know, about a two year battle of trying to get good legislation passed
- 3:19to rid ourselves of national standards only to end up with Common Core rebranded.
- 3:24So that's when we came together, expanded as a national organization in 2015 and we've
- 3:30just been growing like crazy since.
- 3:32Excellent.
- 3:33And we appreciate that and all the work that you're doing.
- 3:35We're going to talk about the mission and the vision in a minute.
- 3:38But you said something very important.
- 3:40Common Core was rebranded.
- 3:42What does that mean?
- 3:43Because, you know, they don't call it Common Core.
- 3:46That's not a threat, it seems anymore.
- 3:48And a lot of people might have the naive idea that it was just taken out of the government
- 3:53schools.
- 3:54Go ahead.
- 3:55Right.
- 3:56You're so right.
- 3:57In fact, our former governor at the time it was Nikki Haley, she bragged in the media about
- 4:02having gotten rid of Common Core in our state and those of us who worked on it knew that
- 4:06that was absolutely false.
- 4:09So what we have in nearly every state are standards that are called college and career ready standards.
- 4:15And so that was the rebranding that they did on Common Core so that they could tell their
- 4:20constituents we got rid of Common Core.
- 4:23And indeed, in fact, our education oversight committee did an analysis there.
- 4:30So I actually have the documentation that proves that it is absolutely Common Core.
- 4:35And this is a tactic of the left, by the way, in the Democrat Party and the Marxists.
- 4:40They actually rebranded something, changed the name and they re-implemented.
- 4:45It doesn't go away.
- 4:47And this is what we need to play more strategically.
- 4:49And we think we've gained a little victory, whether it's legislatively or in some other
- 4:53way, watch what they do with whatever it is they were pushing on America, on children.
- 5:00So let's talk about the mission, Sherry, of USPI, parents involved in education.
- 5:06Just go ahead and explain the mission and even though I love the vision that's listed
- 5:09on the website as well.
- 5:11Okay.
- 5:12So our mission is to end the US Department of Education and all federal education mandates.
- 5:18And the reason we chose this as our mission is we began to realize that the majority of
- 5:24the nefarious pedagogies come from the federal government and they're incentivized with federal
- 5:29tax dollars.
- 5:31So that's exactly what we saw with Common Core.
- 5:33It was the race to the top grants.
- 5:35Now more recently we have the title nine regulations that are coming out that will harm women's
- 5:42sports after 50 years of advancing women's sports.
- 5:45So the deal is if you don't comply with their regulations then they threaten to withhold
- 5:50your federal funding.
- 5:52So that's how the federal government is controlling our classrooms.
- 5:55But what's interesting and most people don't realize is that only about 10% on average
- 6:01of a state's education budget comes from the federal government.
- 6:05So it's not as insurmountable as people would think to wing themselves off this funding.
- 6:10And especially if they go along with a blueprint that we developed last summer that lays out
- 6:17the steps to do this to wing themselves off.
- 6:19And one of the steps is to analyze how much it costs to comply with the federal mandates.
- 6:26And I think what states will find that at least half of that 10% is being spent on
- 6:32complying with regulations.
- 6:34And by the way, US parents involved in education is a nonprofit.
- 6:38We need to just make sure that's clear so people can go to the website, which again is
- 6:43uspie.org and there's a picture of Sherry's daughter-in-law April who played a very important
- 6:52role in a film.
- 6:53We're going to talk about in just a minute.
- 6:54But Sherry, I opened with a little tease on this actual news story here it is.
- 6:59I've got from Fox News, I printed it out and this is the title of the article.
- 7:04My professor failed me because I didn't embrace DEI, women must fight to exist.
- 7:13So Sherry, we understand what they're trying to do and not enough people know about it.
- 7:19That's why you and us, others are trying to raise awareness.
- 7:22So the interesting thing is she brought DEI into this because that's wreaking havoc across
- 7:27the country, not only in K through 12, but especially at the university level, diversity,
- 7:32equity and inclusion, I call it the Marxist movement, the roots of this is really awful.
- 7:39But talk to us about this story, this was at the University of Cincinnati, true story
- 7:43and this is not an isolated case.
- 7:46Go ahead, Sherry.
- 7:47Okay, so the young woman who spoke out after her professor failed her for using the term
- 7:55biological woman, she was a chemistry major and she was required to take this DEI class
- 8:02in order to graduate.
- 8:04So she wouldn't have been in that class had it been her choosing, but it was required
- 8:07and therefore she took it.
- 8:09But then when she courageously spoke the truth and actually wrote a paper about women's
- 8:16history and talking about all the accomplishments and all the gains of a very palatable topic
- 8:22for this class.
- 8:24But it wasn't from the liberal perspective, it wasn't from the lens of the DEI, the
- 8:30diversity, equity, inclusion.
- 8:32And so therefore her professor failed her on her report and she needed that grade in
- 8:40order to graduate.
- 8:41But the good news is she's speaking out, she's actually working with Riley Gaines and some
- 8:46others who are speaking out and doing a lot of pushback on this idea of men competing
- 8:53in women's sports.
- 8:55And so they're working together and she is just so encouraging to see young people taking
- 9:00up this model and the front lines of this battle.
- 9:03Yes, and I'm so thankful there are many others that don't have the name Riley Gaines
- 9:08that are fighting this, that have been impacted whether that be losing a scholarship to
- 9:13a male, you know, boy, and either going to college anyway, let's go back to this article
- 9:18because her name is Olivia Crullchick, is that right?
- 9:22Yes.
- 9:23So she said we're captive to this and forced to participate.
- 9:28And not only that, she says and pay.
- 9:31So they have to shell out money to take these courses that they're required.
- 9:35And she says for the degrees, which is why the progressive left installed diversity,
- 9:40equity, and inclusion courses as graduation requirements.
- 9:45And then she says DEI is the vehicle by which the bullies are trying to make women history
- 9:52and make our existence no more than a feeling.
- 9:56The DEI concept is a shameless abuse of power and an unmistakable indoctrination system.
- 10:03I got to stop right there and just applaud this young woman and just I'm thankful I'm sure
- 10:07she's taken the heat, I'm sure she's getting hit from different angles on this.
- 10:13Anything else you'd like to share on this?
- 10:14I mean, it mentions the University of Michigan, Duke and others, University of Massachusetts
- 10:20is not surprising.
- 10:22We did a report by the way a couple of months ago on the massive money that, for example,
- 10:28the University of Michigan is spending on DEI departments and positions and all that.
- 10:34So would you like to comment on that, Sherry?
- 10:37Well, yes, it's extremely unfortunate that we allowed this to progress to the point
- 10:43it has.
- 10:44You know, I personally was focused on K-12 education, trying to protect young children from things
- 10:50that were coming at them, but all along this very liberal influence has been in the colleges
- 10:56and universities in our country for some time, back at dates back, you know, to the 60s
- 11:02when the Marxists first came over and infiltrated Columbia University.
- 11:07So it's really a shame that we allowed to get such a strong foothold.
- 11:11But now I am encouraged that some states are passing legislation to defund DEI in these
- 11:19colleges and universities.
- 11:20But you know, again, here we get to the point where we understand they'll probably just rename
- 11:25it and shift it around so that they can escape the prohibitions that the state legislatures
- 11:31are putting on them.
- 11:33But we do have to really pay attention to this because what I like to tell people is it's
- 11:37much, much bigger than even just protecting children as though that's not important enough,
- 11:44but it's also about our country's freedom because they are intentionally indoctrinating
- 11:50children and young adults against our country.
- 11:53It is anti-American, anti-Christian rhetoric and propaganda and, you know, in our film,
- 12:00we interview Lily Tang Williams, who grew up under the Mao regime and she says in the
- 12:05film, you know, this, you're going to end up like China.
- 12:08If you don't stop, this is exactly what they were doing in our schools.
- 12:12So everyone has to be informed and become motivated to get involved to help us stop
- 12:18this because our very freedom is at risk.
- 12:22And you're not exaggerating.
- 12:24Thank you for putting it that way because it is.
- 12:26And people who oppose this movement, as she said in the article, have been canceled,
- 12:30penalized, attacked and it's going to continue because this is a battle.
- 12:34It is a worldview war.
- 12:35There is a war on truth.
- 12:37And of course, the biblical worldview is under constant attack.
- 12:40And so the left is demonically inspired, I like to put it that way.
- 12:44And by the way, thanks to Chris Rufo, over at City Journal, who does great work on this
- 12:49exposing DEI.
- 12:50I think he got in Texas.
- 12:53I think the University of Texas or all of Texas colleges recently, I think they, do
- 12:58you know that story?
- 12:59I think they eliminated some of the DEI bureaucracy there.
- 13:03Yes.
- 13:04Absolutely.
- 13:05And then Christopher Rufo was right on the front lines with that.
- 13:08Praise God.
- 13:09All right, friends.
- 13:10So coming right up with Sherry Fu, we are going to talk about the documentary truth and

- 14:18And our producer, Mike Menzel, will get back to you.
- 14:21That's WorldView Matters.tv.
- 14:22That's easier to maybe go to the website to remember that.
- 14:25Well, we've got Sherry Fu with us.
- 14:28She's the founder and president of US Parents Involved in Education, US Pi.
- 14:33And there's the website there, US Pi.org.
- 14:36Let's talk about truth and lies in American education.
- 14:40Sherry, because we see some familiar names there to this podcast.
- 14:44We've had, of course, Dr. Duke Pesta.
- 14:46We've had Alex Newman.
- 14:47And we've had Sam Sorbo on.
- 14:49And by the way, friends, Kevin Sorbo is going to be on in a couple of weeks.
- 14:54A great project.
- 14:56Sherry, give us an overview and then we'll talk about it and I love that right on the
- 15:00front page.
- 15:01They're not on my watch.
- 15:02So Sherry, go ahead, tell us about the project.
- 15:05Well, it was sort of a vision that came to me.
- 15:09I understood the very urgent need to educate people about what's happening in the government
- 15:14schools.
- 15:15And really, my initial thought was to educate people about the workforce development
- 15:21model of education, which is something very few people have heard.
- 15:25So maybe we'll get a minute to talk about that.
- 15:27But then as we were developing the concept for the film and lining up speakers is when
- 15:34everything just went wide open with critical race theory and all these other things happening.
- 15:39So the timing, which was totally God's timing, because we would have produced the film much
- 15:44earlier had we had the funding we needed, but we had to spend about a year and a half raising
- 15:48money.
- 15:49But the timing was perfect because we were able to incorporate all of this other critical
- 15:54Marxist theories and the sexualization of children and all of this that just really blossomed
- 15:59in the last few years.
- 16:01So yes, we're so thrilled that Alex Newman is one of the main stars in the film and Dr.
- 16:07Duke Pesta, Dr. Pesta flew out here and he and here in South Carolina is where we did
- 16:13some of the filming and he and Dr. Carol Swain did a great presentation for one of our
- 16:19largest communities in South Carolina and we used some of that for the film.
- 16:25So yeah, these are our main characters.
- 16:27We also have Sam Sorbo, which you mentioned and Donna Herne, which I'm not sure if you're
- 16:33familiar with Donna, but she started the constitutional coalition and held annual educational policy
- 16:40conferences every year.
- 16:41She actually passed away one year after we produced the film that she's the one who's
- 16:46done all the research and education on the workforce development model of education.
- 16:51So the film covers the sexualization of children, which is an issue I've been involved with
- 16:57for a very long time as I used to write curriculum for abstinence education, but what has become
- 17:03today is so much more nefarious than what I was concerned about when my children are
- 17:09schools, especially this focus on the transgender ideology, it's rampant in our schools and
- 17:17so sad.
- 17:18So it's the sexualization of children, the critical Marxist series, which is more than
- 17:23just critical race theory, critical, critical gender theory, all encompassed in something
- 17:29they call culturally relevant pedagogy.
- 17:32And then we focus on the fake history, this happening in the schools, the rewriting of
- 17:37history, the 1619 project, and we have a couple of authors that were interviewed who wrote
- 17:43books on how the history has been rewritten in our country and has turned children against
- 17:50America.
- 17:51And you know, there was probably not any other country in the world that teaches their
- 17:56children to hate their own country.
- 17:59I mean, even the communists are smart enough to teach their children to love their country.
- 18:04So we know that this is an intentional agenda and that's why we're sending the alarm
- 18:08because they want to turn all of the children in this country against their country so that
- 18:14they can see unrest and rebellion and topple our freedom and exchange it for a communist
- 18:21Marxist agenda.
- 18:22Yeah.
- 18:23I mean, socialism is that next step to communism and by the way, it's not an exaggeration
- 18:28because as Christians, we are called to influence salt and light.
- 18:34We are called to make disciples, right?
- 18:37The left is very successful.
- 18:39The enemy is making disciples for this godless worldview, godless worldviews, godless
- 18:45philosophies.
- 18:47And these are demonic agendas.
- 18:48Think about it.
- 18:49The population control, they're trying to, you know, have young children be confused
- 18:53about who God made them, by the way, every human being is created in the image of God.
- 18:57But I'm off my soapbox now because we're talking to Sherry Fiew.
- 19:02I want to mention real quick.
- 19:03The website is truth and lies film truth and lies film dot us.
- 19:10You mentioned that it's based on a true story.
- 19:13So it's it's documentary styled Sherry and your daughter-in-law is one of the stars.
- 19:19Tell us about that.
- 19:20Yeah.
- 19:21So my daughter-in-law April Fiew, shortly after she married my youngest son, needed some
- 19:28work that she could do at home because they very quickly had my first grandchild.
- 19:33And so I offered her a job to work with me in US pie.
- 19:38But I told her in order to work for me, there's some required reading she'd have to do because
- 19:42I knew that, you know, she had learned a lot of the things that were combating in schools
- 19:46and she needed to know the truth.
- 19:48So one of the first books she read is Crimes of the Educator, of course, co-authored by
- 19:53our Alex Newman.
- 19:54And her eyes were really open.
- 19:56So the story begins with her talking about how very liberal she was before she began
- 20:02reading and working for me.
- 20:04And she was just surprised at how much she didn't know and she thought it sounded like
- 20:10conspiracy but then did her own fat checking and found it all to be true.
- 20:14And then she made a champion, a young person who really wants to educate other parents
- 20:22like herself about what's happening in the government schools so they can protect their
- 20:26children.
- 20:27And she is still that champion today.
- 20:30Still works for US pie.
- 20:32She's one of our only part-time staff, but she's very passionate.
- 20:36And in the film she portrays her passion, she shares her knowledge and in the end she
- 20:41chooses to homeschool my grandchildren, which makes me very happy.
- 20:45Oh my goodness, right, Sherry?
- 20:48Wow, sigh of relief.
- 20:51Because the battle, it's far from being one when it comes to the government run school.
- 20:58So by the way, where are you based?
- 21:00Did you mention that?
- 21:01South Carolina.
- 21:02South Carolina, that's right you did.
- 21:05So let's talk about a little bit deeper in some of the talking points of the movie.
- 21:10And you said, you know, critical race theory and thank you for pointing out these are Marxist
- 21:14theories.
- 21:15It's not just CRT.
- 21:17There are some bigger issues there.
- 21:18Thank you for saying fake revisionist history like the 1619 project and when you mentioned
- 21:23sexuality.
- 21:24I mean, you know, at some point in a school or in a child's education, they are going
- 21:29to be taught health and biology, but then we say, well, parents should be teaching them
- 21:35sexual content at home or sexual ideas.
- 21:38But in the schools, use the word on the website, it's explicit.
- 21:43We're not talking just about health, we're not just talking about, you know, it's sexually
- 21:47transmitted diseases or whatever.
- 21:51We're talking about explicit, we're talking about indoctrination and some of these LGBTQ
- 21:56lifestyles.
- 21:57Now let's just go ahead a little bit further on any one of those points you would like
- 22:00to Sherry.
- 22:02Okay.
- 22:03So as I mentioned, I was in the field of abstinence education for some time and wrote several
- 22:09curricula.
- 22:10And so, you know, it was our goal to offer an alternative to the sex education children
- 22:16were getting in government schools, you know, this was 15, 20 years ago.
- 22:21And so even in states like South Carolina, we had the homosexual lifestyles being introduced
- 22:29in middle grades and other things like that.
- 22:32But since then, of course, it's become explicit and even propaganda, excuse me, pornography
- 22:38in instances, you know, our libraries are full of pornography available to very young
- 22:45children.
- 22:46And this whole transgender ideology has just become rampant in early grades on through,
- 22:55you know, to adults.
- 22:57And so when I talk about this, I talk about how it changed because, you know, you'll recall
- 23:03in the 90s, there was a character called RuPaul that was, we used to call him cross-dressers.
- 23:09And then the term drag queen came up, but he was proven anomaly and just kind of a strange
- 23:16thing.
- 23:17And we just all kind of laughed and said, well, that's interesting.
- 23:20He likes dressing up like a girl.
- 23:22But we didn't think of it as a sexual situation.
- 23:25So we've gone from that in the 90s to here in 2024, where we're hearing large numbers
- 23:32of young children being boomed into this lifestyle.
- 23:36And so, and it's like one example is in Arizona just last week, it was exposed that they were
- 23:44advertising an LGBTQ clinic off campus, but it was advertised through the schools.
- 23:51And of course, it was hosted at the public library, which is the other arm that's being
- 23:56used to indoctrinate children, but children could go there without their parental, parental
- 24:01knowledge or consent and legally have their name changed and they'll help them to create
- 24:07pronouns and they have a dress closet where you can choose what clothes you want to wear.
- 24:13And we're talking about eight to 11 year olds.
- 24:16So this is how it's become.
- 24:18And even in that article, it talked about other clinics that were being offered to children
- 24:23as young as four years old.
- 24:25So it's just really, really sad.
- 24:27It's quite sick actually.
- 24:29And you know, there's one piece of this people don't hear much about, but there's a new
- 24:34term called map and it stands for minor attracted person.
- 24:39And so that is the trajectory for these sick individuals who are praying on our children
- 24:45is they want to normalize and make acceptable another form of sexuality, which is actually
- 24:52pedophilia.
- 24:53They want it to become normal and legal and that's the end game with this.
- 24:57And so people really need to wake up to what's happening and say enough is enough like
- 25:01many of us have.
- 25:03But Sherry, they told us it's not a slippery slope.
- 25:07Right.
- 25:08Decades ago.
- 25:09Right.
- 25:10That's right.
- 25:11It was, you know, we just want to have people rights with everybody else who's married.
- 25:16We knew that.
- 25:17They just, yeah, right.
- 25:18So I'm very briefly over on your Twitter page, Twitter.com, stop fed ed.
- 25:26Tell us about these awards that you give out because in April, you just gave out an award
- 25:30to South Carolina librarians for hiding explicit books from concerned parents.
- 25:37How do they get away with this?
- 25:38How did you find out about this?
- 25:40Of course, I know you're in South Carolina and I know the, we didn't expose the American
- 25:44Library Association last year and they are anything but supporting biblical worldview.
- 25:50They're just anti Christ demonic.
- 25:53But go ahead, share these awards that you give out briefly talk about, about that.
- 25:57Okay.
- 25:58So last year we started what we call the Millstone of the Month award taken from the
- 26:03scripture.
- 26:04I'm asking you.
- 26:05Millstone of the month.
- 26:06And so you're familiar with the scripture.
- 26:09I'm sure it gives something like, you know, if you're going to harm little children, you
- 26:14may as well have a millstone tied to your neck and be thrown into the sea.
- 26:19So we believe that these people that are harming children with the atrocities that's happening
- 26:24to young children in America schools.
- 26:27Unfortunately, there's an abundance of nominees every month to choose from and that's
- 26:31how bad it is.
- 26:32But we award who we think is the most egregious every month and highlight, especially those
- 26:38who haven't had any kind of public outcry for their actions.
- 26:43So that's our Millstone of the Month award.
- 26:46And yeah, like I said, it's such a shame that there are so many to choose from every month.
- 26:50Yeah.
- 26:51That's, I love that.
- 26:52I mean, it's sad that we do have to do something like this, but it's calling attention
- 26:56to it in a fun way.
- 26:58But it's opening people's eyes, hopefully, but that's, I really appreciate that, Sherry,
- 27:03with a little jab in there.
- 27:05But so is the best place to watch the film, Truth and Lies, film.us, is that the best place
- 27:13to watch it or can it be found elsewhere?
- 27:15Now, that's the, that's the website for the film.
- 27:17You can purchase it or download it from that website.
- 27:21And your website, uspe.ie.org.
- 27:25And anything else you'd like to tell us as far as contact your information before we let
- 27:29you go?
- 27:31No, they'll just go to one of those two websites, uspe.org, they can find the film there too,
- 27:36or Truth and Lies Film.us.
- 27:38Great.
- 27:39Sherry, if you, thank you for your time today.
- 27:41I appreciate your work and I know the audience that is viewing absolutely does as well.
- 27:47God bless you.
- 27:48Thank you.
- 27:49All right.
- 27:50Thank you.
- 27:51You're welcome.
- 27:52Oh, my goodness.
- 27:53A millstone of the month award.
- 27:55Oh, we could start a whole new national movement and we could find a lot of those to give out.
- 28:00Anyway, we've got to move on.
- 28:01Thank you guys.
- 28:02We'll see you tomorrow.
- 28:03God bless you.
- 28:04And as always, keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
