- 0:31Now let's get into the episode. Hello everyone, and welcome back
- 0:35to the Doctor Randy show. I'm your host, Doctor Randy
- 0:38Boyett, and this is where we break down what's happening
- 0:41across beauty, aesthetics, Wellness and the business behind
- 0:45it. He leads one of the most
- 0:47recognized brands in medical grade skin care, Obaji Medical.
- 0:52He's now taking that brand into the evolving injectable space
- 0:56and it's one of the most talked about moves in aesthetics right
- 0:59now. Please welcome Drew Fine to the
- 1:02show. Thanks Randy.
- 1:03Great to be here. I appreciate you having me on.
- 1:06Should be a fun share. Well.
- 1:07We're excited to have you on the show today.
- 1:10So Drew, as usual, I will jump right in.
- 1:13So the brand has been around for decades.
- 1:15I was just saying that I can't remember a time that I haven't
- 1:19had something from the Obaji line in my bathroom in my
- 1:22routine, so it is definitely left its mark in over 80
- 1:27countries I believe. Is that correct?
- 1:30Yeah, Obaji is all around the world.
- 1:32I like to say we're a 3738 year old brand.
- 1:35So whenever you get to that age, you tend to need a little bit of
- 1:38a glow up. So we've got a great heritage in
- 1:40history, some wonderful products, but we've got some new
- 1:42packaging. So we have some new clothes on
- 1:43the bottle. We got some Pundurstein care
- 1:45innovation that's you like to try when you get to that age.
- 1:47And you know, and then we are launching up filler as well.
- 1:50We're doing all the things normal 37 year olds really did
- 1:52take care of themselves. When people hear Obaji today,
- 1:58what do you really want that name to stand for?
- 2:01That's a great question. I think we pulled on this and
- 2:04what people tell us Obaji means is trusted scientific medical
- 2:09bath and really an innovator. It's the OG, so to speak, of
- 2:14medical grade skin care. We're founded on products and
- 2:18procedures and protocols that really transform your skin and
- 2:22that's still the core of the brand today.
- 2:24Now we've layered on a whole host of other interesting
- 2:26innovation that really help patients and practices and
- 2:29consumers. But at the end of the day, Abagi
- 2:31has trusted scientific, medical and really proven.
- 2:35And from where you sit, how has the brand evolved even just in
- 2:40the last few years? My background is actually a
- 2:42little bit interesting because I've only been with Obanji for
- 2:45not even nine months, but the brand has been around for a long
- 2:48time, like we said 37 years. I said most of my career in
- 2:52other areas of aesthetics. I worked for some of the big
- 2:54injectable companies, late marketing.
- 2:56I had some opportunities with some different startup
- 2:59companies. The skin care on the practice
- 3:02side did some consulting and I had a start up that was
- 3:05developing with a couple other people, some new injectables and
- 3:08we're going to get ready to bring that to the market and
- 3:10stand up with that company. And then last summer, Obaji was
- 3:15like, you know what worth of space where we want to make
- 3:17Obaji into this huge mega aesthetic brand.
- 3:20And the best way to do that is to do something that no one's
- 3:22done before. So you have a skin care company
- 3:25that went kind of into the more invasive injectable space.
- 3:28They acquired the start up that I was working at and it's part
- 3:32of that deal. They have me to come on board to
- 3:33kind of lead this piece of the business.
- 3:36So it really was a novel approach.
- 3:38You know, Bajin kind of did something that no one else has
- 3:40done and now we're in the midst of trying to do something that
- 3:43no one's done before as well. So it's a lot of fun, but lives
- 3:46the heritage of the brain, right?
- 3:48Those just trusted scientific medical, but it's also very
- 3:50innovative. So you're seeing that really
- 3:52come to life and now it's going to come to life in a whole host
- 3:54of different ways. And I think consumers impatience
- 3:57and practices around the world around the US is certainly going
- 4:00to be pretty intrigued about the direction that we're going.
- 4:03So you are launching into so many new products and
- 4:06categories, excited to see where that's going.
- 4:10What made this the right time to expand into the new areas?
- 4:15You know, it's a interesting time and aesthetics, it's the
- 4:18category that you know it well that's been around for many,
- 4:21many years. But coming out of the COVID
- 4:23pandemic and you kind of see this big growth at the end of
- 4:26the day right now, aesthetics is in such a unique place.
- 4:30You're seeing this large trend of a convergence.
- 4:33You're seeing convergence of health, Wellness, longevity,
- 4:38aesthetics, It's all coming together.
- 4:40So when you have a Cinco brand that has a whole variety of
- 4:43products that can then get into the more pure aesthetic space,
- 4:47it only made sense with where the market's failing.
- 4:50I think you most times you kind of look at where markets are
- 4:53going, what consumers are demanding and somebody's trying
- 4:56to evolve to get there. And at the end of the day,
- 4:58that's what we did. If I talk to most patients, you
- 5:01who me, my mom, whoever does these treatments, inevitably
- 5:04it's not just one thing that provides amazing outcomes.
- 5:08Having great skin care is a really important component of
- 5:11why you would testify to that, but it's not the only component
- 5:14to really providing amazing outcomes for consumers or making
- 5:18you have great skin or great aesthetic outcomes.
- 5:20You're going to have multiple modalities, multiple approaches.
- 5:22It's a little bit of help, a little bit of Wellness.
- 5:24It's how you take care of yourself, it's how you take care
- 5:26of your skin. It's what happens when your age,
- 5:28all these sorts of things. So the whole idea with this is
- 5:32we can start to provide a more integrated approach.
- 5:35Rather than thinking during what products we have and how do we
- 5:38settle them, we could think about what is the patient need
- 5:40and how do we provide the right outcomes.
- 5:43Well, I think it's very forward thinking and I think that
- 5:46there's so much going on in the industry and you guys are
- 5:50obviously keeping up with the times and the changes.
- 5:53So let's talk about what I think is the biggest move that I've
- 5:57read about and research that Aubagio is making right now with
- 6:01the launch of Injectable. So I'd love to talk about that.
- 6:05There's a lot of attention around it.
- 6:07So what do you feel like you're bringing to this category that's
- 6:10a little different? So if you look at the injectable
- 6:13category, everything has a variety of brands and names and
- 6:17you've heard of some of these, some of them are household
- 6:19names, some of them you've never heard of and you can't remember.
- 6:22But at its core, what we're launching with Obaji is an Obaji
- 6:26branded filler. You can see that behind the box
- 6:29shut over here on my shelf says Obaji on it.
- 6:31The packaging looks like the skin care packaging just get
- 6:34bred over this shoulder as well. And the benefit of that is it
- 6:37makes it easier for consumers and it makes it easier for
- 6:41practices. If it's all under Obaji, you get
- 6:44the equity, the trusted brand, the scientific brand, the
- 6:47medical brand of Obaji, playing across multiple categories.
- 6:51So you don't have to remember as many things.
- 6:52You can start to build integrated approaches and
- 6:55integrated protocols. I like to say when you think
- 6:57about an Obaji filler, you're not just selling a syringe,
- 7:00we're selling the solution because we can start to put this
- 7:03all together. And amazingly, as simple as
- 7:05this, just branding it that way is really powerful.
- 7:08We all know the power brands. You use many of them.
- 7:11I use many of them. All the people listening, we use
- 7:14brands and brands work for a reason.
- 7:16So this is the first time we've ever really tried to brand an
- 7:19injectable with a powerful brand like Obashi.
- 7:22And at the core, that's the basic simplicity of what we're
- 7:25doing now. There are some unique aspects of
- 7:27the filler. That's a great product from a
- 7:29wonderful partner we have in Europe called Criminal
- 7:32Pharmaceuticals and it's got a wonderful history around the
- 7:35world. We've got some great clinical
- 7:36data. Those are all important.
- 7:38It's got a wonderful name. It's called Obaji Seto Magic.
- 7:41My mom likes to joke that she's like, well, I need a magic
- 7:43filler so I look magical and I'm like, well, that's I like the
- 7:46way you think, mom. That's that's a great name.
- 7:49I love that. So is this a new type of
- 7:53injectable for our listeners and viewers kind of hearing about
- 7:56this for the first time? When will it be available?
- 7:59What should they understand about this type of injectable
- 8:02and what it's designed to do? It's a hyaluronic acid
- 8:05injectable dermal filler, which is a category that has been
- 8:08around for over 20 years in the United States.
- 8:11So it's very similar to other injectable dermal pillars that
- 8:14are out there with hyaluronic acid in them.
- 8:17There are some unique, this is about this one versus the other
- 8:19ones, but in its cork, that's what it is.
- 8:21It's a current product that is used millions of times a year.
- 8:26But I think, you know, the most recent data that I've seen is
- 8:28there's probably 5 to 6,000,000 hyaluronic acid injections per
- 8:31year. So it's something that's been
- 8:32happening over and over and over again with great outcomes for a
- 8:36long period of time, and this is just a nice new one to add to
- 8:39the armamentarium. We're all very thankful for HA
- 8:42fillers because keeps our faith from falling.
- 8:45It's so funny because you know, I've talked to a number of
- 8:47people about this over time and people like, oh, how I guess it
- 8:50always sounds so scary and you're like, well, no, it's just
- 8:52the natural sugar that occurs in your body.
- 8:54So these kind of mimic that with some modifications.
- 8:57But there are some real benefits to these products with how
- 9:00they're designed. They help with some of the
- 9:02natural things that happen when you age.
- 9:04When you age, you lose volume. So your fat PED shrink, your
- 9:06bones shrink, their sting gets a little bit more LAX.
- 9:09So and its core of these just replace volume that you lose
- 9:13when you're age. That's the core of what they do.
- 9:15Are they the end all, be all solution to everything for a
- 9:18great aesthetic outcome? No.
- 9:20Are they a key component of an overall approach to get amazing
- 9:23results as you kind of age naturally and gracefully?
- 9:27Absolutely. They definitely play a role.
- 9:29The other nice thing is a lot of times when these are done well
- 9:33by great providers and great injectors, there's a little bit
- 9:37of the it's the undetectable injectable.
- 9:39You don't know that people have been injected if they just look
- 9:42great because they've been well injected.
- 9:44So like, I know I personally have been injected for many
- 9:47times, many years. Hope they don't look too strange
- 9:49on the podcast today. But yeah, they're, they're
- 9:51wonderful products. This product in particular, and
- 9:53it's a great product as well. It is available right now.
- 9:56We're just in the midst of launching it.
- 9:57So there's a, we've kind of been doing an early experience
- 10:00program with a lot of our Aubagio accounts and people who
- 10:03love the brand. The early feedback on the
- 10:05product is very strong and I think we have a real winner on
- 10:07our hands and which will be supported by the international
- 10:10data. This product's been used in 80
- 10:12countries for more than eight years around the world.
- 10:14We just got approval here in the US recently, which is really
- 10:17important. And so now we're getting ready
- 10:19to launch it as. You look ahead with your
- 10:22injectables. How do you see in the future you
- 10:26see yourself introducing even more to the line?
- 10:29Tell me a little bit about that. It's a wonderful question as
- 10:31well. We have one other product in
- 10:33this similar line that has been submitted to FDA.
- 10:36We're awaiting clearance of it. So once that one gets approved
- 10:39or if it gets approved, we hope to be launching that one very
- 10:42quickly afterwards. We think with these two
- 10:44products, we actually covered the vast majority of what most
- 10:47patients need. So we'll probably stick to just
- 10:49those two and we have some other options on things that we could
- 10:51continue to develop over time. But I think the benefit here is
- 10:55kind of back to the overall biology story, right?
- 10:57So it's like skin care plus injectables.
- 11:00The next natural question is could we fit some other things
- 11:03in there that are very relevant to building holistic patient
- 11:06outcomes, holistic protocols to get great results for patients.
- 11:09So we'll see where it evolves. You never know.
- 11:11But yeah, I think right now we've got 1 great one.
- 11:13We've got another one that we're hopeful we'll get pretty soon
- 11:16and we've got a bunch of innovation on the skin care side
- 11:18to support everything. Too.
- 11:20Well, stepping back from injectables for a moment, I'd
- 11:23like to look at the bigger picture with you because this
- 11:26conversation has moved beyond a single treatment, right?
- 11:29Aesthetics has really changed over the last couple of years.
- 11:33And when skin care and injectables are approached
- 11:37together in the right way, and I'm sure that's the movement
- 11:40that Obaji is envisioning, what kind of difference does that
- 11:44create in the outcome? I think everyone assumes that
- 11:48we're going to see a very positive patient results.
- 11:51So we're actually running some clinical trials right now to
- 11:54evaluate that exact question. What happens if you take some
- 11:58great Obagi skin care, pair it with some great Obagi
- 12:01injectables in really good injectors hands and we'll see
- 12:05kind of what happens to patient satisfaction.
- 12:06I'm highly confident. I know we have a very high, but
- 12:09we are trying to do this in a way that kind of manages the
- 12:11Obagi brand. Every product we launched in
- 12:13Obagi, we have clinical databases supported, but one of
- 12:17the most clinical, if not the most clinically tested skin care
- 12:19products. So we're doing the same thing
- 12:21here. But yeah, I mean, if you kind of
- 12:23just step back and you talk about your friends or my mom or
- 12:26my wife or, you know, whoever, and you say, man, you look great
- 12:30today, what'd you do? They never tell you one thing.
- 12:34It's always like, I did a little bit of this and I did a little
- 12:37bit of that, and I tried this. And, you know, this is working
- 12:40really well. And it's how it all kind of fits
- 12:43together. And the more companies can help
- 12:47consumers and help practices deliver those kind of results, I
- 12:51think we're going to continue to grow this kind of wonderful
- 12:54aesthetic in health and Wellness category even more.
- 12:58So that's the idea. We'll see how we executed pretty
- 13:01well. I'm pretty excited about it, but
- 13:02that's the idea of what we're trying to get to.
- 13:04And just like you were talking about beyond one product or
- 13:07treatment, you know, what I really see a change in is how
- 13:12people really want to look. I think there's a big trend and
- 13:15a big change in the landscape here.
- 13:18What would you say the shift in the aesthetic expectations over
- 13:23the last couple of years, how that has shifted?
- 13:25What is your opinion there? I've been in the industry now
- 13:28since 2014. So the kind of interesting thing
- 13:31to me is how the pendulum kind of swings like this in this
- 13:34industry quite a bit. So when I started, a lot of the
- 13:38focus was on what happens with natural ageing processes, right?
- 13:42So like, naturally we're all getting older.
- 13:44So your skin gets a little bit more LAX, your bone resorbs,
- 13:48your fat pads atrophy a little bit, maybe you get some
- 13:51discoloration or some redness in your skin.
- 13:53These are all natural processes that happens to everyone when
- 13:56you age, right? You got tone and texture issues,
- 13:58you have fine lines and wrinkles, you have volume
- 14:01lowness, you have redness, you have pigmentation.
- 14:04Their skin gets oily, skin gets dry.
- 14:06All these things happen and they're natural.
- 14:09And we used to talk a lot about, well, these are the problems you
- 14:11have. Here's the kind of solutions
- 14:13that we can provide as you kind of went through a long time, it
- 14:17got a lot of, well, maybe I can really enhance an augment in a
- 14:21more substantial way. And you saw a thing of a trend
- 14:23where that happened and it happened across the body, across
- 14:26the face, but all sorts of places, you know, then you will
- 14:29narrow really glassy skin in certain places.
- 14:31Or maybe Kate Unity feels very popular.
- 14:33The trend is going to go like this.
- 14:35The interesting thing to me is I think we're getting back to a
- 14:38place that actually drives the long term growth of the
- 14:41industry, which is like what happens when you age?
- 14:44What are the problems that you have?
- 14:45How do we provide the right solutions and how we provide
- 14:47more integrated solutions going forward?
- 14:50And the beautiful part about aesthetics is it is trendy.
- 14:53Like there are trendy ingredients, there are trendy
- 14:56topics, there are trendy, you know, looks, but at the end of
- 15:00the day, the long term trend is driven by the instead of like
- 15:03you age gracefully, you age naturally.
- 15:06How do we help people through that process and give them
- 15:09really strong outcomes with some of the most innovative
- 15:11approaches in all of the health and Wellness?
- 15:15And I think the priorities have changed, right?
- 15:17We went from this a little bit of an overdone look and an
- 15:21exaggerated look and everybody sort of flaunting that.
- 15:25And I think that that's changed. And I would say that there's
- 15:30even fundamental differences about what people are
- 15:32prioritizing now when it comes to their appearance.
- 15:36What are your thoughts on that? I mean, I'd be curious to know
- 15:39where you think it's going as well.
- 15:41Again, it changes for everyone. So it's really hard to draw
- 15:44broad generalities. But the one thing that I think
- 15:46is kind of interesting, particularly as it relates to
- 15:48injectables, for a while there, it was more is better, right?
- 15:52So you'd get 3 or 4 or more syringes.
- 15:56We're kind of in a place now where at least I know from an A
- 15:58body to standpoint, I would much rather you get one or two
- 16:02syringes of an injectable And they include some really
- 16:05interesting skin care because I'm pretty sure if your skin
- 16:08looks great, we can replace a little bit of volume and you're
- 16:11going to be incredibly happy. You'll probably be happier than
- 16:13if I just replace some volume. So you tend to go to do both.
- 16:17And I think that's where the trend is going.
- 16:18To me, it's about doing both or make sure there's buzzy
- 16:21ingredients like MAD Plus and you have a client that
- 16:24formulates with some of that. And you could talk about like K
- 16:27Beauty, you could talk about dry skin in South Florida and all
- 16:30these sorts of things. But at the end of the day, I
- 16:32think it kind of comes back to at least we're a company like a
- 16:35BAJI where we have these try and prove and trusted products with
- 16:38a lot of innovation. You got to get back to the core
- 16:40of what patients need, and there are some universal truths there,
- 16:43even across all the different trends.
- 16:45I think the trend is going towards a very natural look and
- 16:49like you're saying, done, but not really exaggerated done.
- 16:52So it doesn't look like it's over the top.
- 16:54And what do you think is really driving that evolution?
- 16:58Do you think it's access to more information, the social
- 17:02influence, or do you think it's something even deeper?
- 17:05For me, I think it's education. Patients are becoming more
- 17:08educated than ever before. Yeah, the education is really
- 17:12interesting because there's it's information overload.
- 17:15So part of the challenge, and I think it's probably the reason
- 17:17you have so many people listening to this podcast is
- 17:20they're looking for trusted sources of education.
- 17:23We have a pretty robust social channel as well and website.
- 17:26A big portion of what drives our success on that is how well we
- 17:31educate patients and consumers. I know that we have a few new
- 17:35products that fall into a new category for you and I've had
- 17:39the pleasure of testing them over the last couple of weeks.
- 17:43So let's go over them for a couple of minutes.
- 17:46First, I wanted to start with what turned out to be now one of
- 17:50my favorites. I.
- 17:53Love the packaging. It looks like something magic.
- 17:55On the topic of magic. That's our daily Hydro drops, a
- 17:58great doing glow. I have a team that's all women,
- 18:01as you might expect in the aesthetics industry, They all
- 18:04swear it's like Gray under their makeup.
- 18:06They tell me all the time that's what they love about it.
- 18:08Interestingly, we were talking about tillage before and pairing
- 18:11them with injectables. I have a number of practices
- 18:13right now if we're running experiments to be say if I do a
- 18:17daily Hydro drops plus, you know, a bunch of magic, am I
- 18:21going to get really, really happy patients?
- 18:22We don't have all the data back yet, but I think you could be
- 18:25pretty excited. The other nice thing about that,
- 18:27like you notice is you get the kind of immediate effect.
- 18:29So it does have a, it's a fun one to have on your shelf.
- 18:33It's a very Instagram able product.
- 18:35We work with a lot of influencers and things like
- 18:37that. That's one of our more popular
- 18:38kind of unboxing experiences because of how it looks.
- 18:41And then the cellular renewal serum.
- 18:43This is also something that I got into trying this week and
- 18:48that feels like something unique in that formulation as well.
- 18:52So tell us about. That one, yeah, this is our
- 18:54newest innovation. So we have a proprietary age
- 18:57control complex. It's formulated with N80 plus
- 19:00N80 precursor areas, dysinomide and the men really this is meant
- 19:05to complement a lot of other actives and it's meant to help
- 19:08overall sell their energy and work kind of more at this other
- 19:10level, but the longevity product.
- 19:13So it's trending quite aggressively.
- 19:15We're one of the first home bases to able to formulate it
- 19:17into a unique proprietary formulation.
- 19:20We ran a pretty extensive clinical test on this one.
- 19:23The interesting kind of headline take away is your skin looks six
- 19:27years younger after 12 weeks of use.
- 19:30So we've got some great clinical data to support it.
- 19:33I love the story of where that one sits.
- 19:36Personally, that's my favorite product right now.
- 19:39I use it as aftershave. That's kind of my easy way to
- 19:41like do my skin care every day, but it's a good once or twice a
- 19:44day product that you can use and you can really get some amazing
- 19:47results as you kind of see that come to fruition.
- 19:49So if you only hit it a week, give it a few more weeks and
- 19:51you'll look even better than you do right now.
- 19:53But it's kind of complements antioxidants and complements
- 19:56other actives because it's kind of working on slightly different
- 19:59pathways from the underlying tentative hypothesis.
- 20:02Well, it's something new that you sent me that I haven't seen
- 20:06from Obagi before. Where this the scalp serum and
- 20:10then there's a last product and a brow product.
- 20:13So these are new innovations that I have not seen from Albagi
- 20:17in the past. So definitely think that they
- 20:20are worth mentioning. I just started testing them, but
- 20:24I can already just tell from the quality, even the packaging of
- 20:28the way this scalp serum is packaged, like I've never seen
- 20:31that before. It's usually like in a dropper
- 20:33and kind of messy. So I like it.
- 20:35We have some really good before naphtish in the typical study.
- 20:37It's great to the in this particular area where a lot of
- 20:40women tend to get some early hair loss.
- 20:42That product in particular, again, more great clinical data
- 20:46showing that we can really support scalp health.
- 20:48We can reduce shedding, we can increase hair density as well.
- 20:51So some really nice benefits that we're able to generate from
- 20:55the clinical study with the scalps here.
- 20:56Scalp in particular is very high.
- 20:57You know, you mentioned GLP ones before.
- 20:59There's a lot of people who have some hair loss from all the GLP
- 21:03ones at a weight loss. So that product has been very
- 21:05popular. It's one of our handful most
- 21:08popular products since we launched.
- 21:09It just launched back in October.
- 21:10And then the other two products in the New South franchise, the
- 21:13lash and brown products, those are cult favorites.
- 21:15I think it's just because, you know, at the end of the day,
- 21:17they work. So they're very popular with
- 21:19patients in particular. My wife loves the brown product
- 21:22and she does the lashes as well but she was getting one where
- 21:24she's like ah it was listen to the coloration getting a little
- 21:27thinner and now she's like my brows look like they're 25 years
- 21:30old again. Every year I've seen new
- 21:32products, new innovation, so we love that thing.
- 21:35I didn't even have a chance to send this one to you ever.
- 21:37We just launched a brand new sun care product that has a really
- 21:40nice kind of formulation, my mineral based, the sunscreen
- 21:43that doesn't leave a real white cast and has some nice hydrating
- 21:46gloves to it. We just looked at double new lip
- 21:48products earlier this year as well that have done particularly
- 21:50well. It's kind of like AMPM, you
- 21:52know, Baja, we like to talk about protocols, not just
- 21:54products. So you kind of get a little bit
- 21:57of like AMP with the lip, so have a little bit of sun
- 22:00protection in the morning, low moisturizer, and then that you
- 22:03get a nice little light defolation as well with those
- 22:06products. So all the fun stuff.
- 22:07You can geek out on the science if you want.
- 22:10But yeah, I think innovations at the core, we've really tried to
- 22:12restart the innovation pipeline because that's critical.
- 22:15And I think that's one of the things that sets a Baja apart.
- 22:17So Drew, before we wrap up and thank you for taking us through
- 22:21the products because I think who doesn't have something of Obaji
- 22:25in their bathroom in their lineup, right?
- 22:27So across everything that's happening with Obaji, my last
- 22:32question before we bring you into the speed round, what do
- 22:35you think matters most to get right right now for you?
- 22:41At the end of the day, it always goes back to the consumer or the
- 22:44customer if you put yourself in their shoes, tend to do really,
- 22:49really well in the businesses that I've always been a part of,
- 22:52Secure aesthetics, if we can treat our customers right, like
- 22:56all the rest of it kind of tends to fall into place.
- 22:59So I try to keep that lens on things when we make decisions.
- 23:03And I think the whole company really does sometimes easier
- 23:06than others, but try to have the mentality, have great products
- 23:10for great customers and we'll probably be in pretty good
- 23:13shape. Well, let's get to know Drew a
- 23:15little more, OK? Because you've been in this
- 23:18industry a long time, just like me, and people want to get to
- 23:20know you. All right, So here's some
- 23:23personal questions. Early riser or night?
- 23:26OWL early riser I'd like to be less of an early riser, but
- 23:29that's just where I have in my life right now.
- 23:31Gym rat or skip it. I'm more of a skip it, more of a
- 23:35not a gym person, more of a natural exercise person.
- 23:38Beach or city? Beach for sure.
- 23:42My wife tells me she's like flip flops and take that's Timmy girl
- 23:45at this point I've never like. Podcasts or music?
- 23:48Depends on the moon. Phone calls or texts.
- 23:52Yeah, you got to do both, but there's nothing that to to
- 23:55actually like talking to an actual person, so you gotta
- 23:57talk. To people, yes, it's nice when
- 23:59people just can jump on the phone for 10 minutes and say
- 24:02what they need to say so. Absolutely.
- 24:04Yeah, Still important in today's same age.
- 24:07Strict schedule or flexible days?
- 24:10Yeah, my world is you have to be flexible and you got a chin to
- 24:13bottom leave. So I'm much more of a flexible
- 24:15days kind of person. Sit down dinner every night or
- 24:18just a quick meal on the run. Yes, I would like to do a sit
- 24:22down dinner every night, but that is not So what happens to
- 24:25my life generally so. Dress up or casual.
- 24:30No, I may as my team helped me. I'm a performative quarter zip
- 24:33kind of guy, if we can get away with it.
- 24:35Risk taker or you like to play it safe?
- 24:39Found on the situation. I think those are all situation
- 24:41dependent, so you got to be smart about when to take risk.
- 24:44Vacation, relax, or explore. Well, ideally we're doing both.
- 24:49That's the ideal. One thing you never skip in your
- 24:52day? I never tell my wife I love her.
- 24:56Great answer, she's going to love that one.
- 24:58Your biggest daily habit that actually works.
- 25:02I don't know if it works yet, but this is something I am
- 25:04trying to do. I have a men's group that I have
- 25:06I go to at my church. We meet every week and we've
- 25:09been very intentional about trying to carve out some time to
- 25:12pause and reflect this Saturday. And I've noticed that the more
- 25:16I've done that lately, the more it's really helping me get off
- 25:19to great start. So I don't know that I have
- 25:21enough data to say it's a must do, but I am finding that if I
- 25:25can get that little bit of pause time that is super super
- 25:29helpful. Best way to reset after a long
- 25:32day? So I jump in the hot tub and
- 25:34throw a ball for my dog. Completely unplug or you're
- 25:39always connected. Unfortunately, I'm always well,
- 25:42fortunately or unfortunately, I'm always connected.
- 25:44I'm too much of the day. I want to help people, I want to
- 25:46be there for people. So I tend to stay probably too
- 25:48connected. Hence hence the pause time to
- 25:51serve the day. Do you think you're more
- 25:53competitive than people think, or less competitive?
- 25:56I'm pretty competitive, although I don't always give it off.
- 25:58You'd kind of go back and look at live values.
- 26:00I always tell people three things.
- 26:02One, I want you to do really great work. 2, I want you to
- 26:05have a lot of fun while you're doing it, And three, I want you
- 26:08to learn new things. But it always starts with like,
- 26:10do great work. So you got to win.
- 26:12That's the that's what you say. What do you overthink the most?
- 26:16Well, I'm almost always tip in Jane, like, what's working?
- 26:19What can we do better? Where's the gaps?
- 26:21Like, even if we're doing good, how can we do better?
- 26:24So yeah, a little bit of everything.
- 26:28I'm a chronic overthinker as well.
- 26:30And last but not least, what is your biggest motivator, Drew?
- 26:33Biggest motivator, that's it. It's team and family.
- 26:36Let's kind of do all this sort of stuff.
- 26:39We've got a wonderful team in Obaji.
- 26:41They work for it every day, so you feel really compelled to
- 26:43work hard for them as well. We've got 4 kids and dog and in
- 26:46laws and you know wife. That's why you do all this
- 26:49stuff. That's why you work so hard.
- 26:51I always tell people too, you have choices about what you do
- 26:54in life. Like most of you are working,
- 26:56are incredibly smart, capable, motivated.
- 26:58They tend to do anything, so if you're not really loving what
- 27:01you're doing, you should go find something you love.
- 27:03What? You're doing, yes.
- 27:04Part of the reason I stand aesthetics.
- 27:06This is just fun. I wake up every day and my job
- 27:09is to help people look and feel better about themselves.
- 27:12How great is that? Like, how absolutely great is
- 27:16that? I'm pretty blessed.
- 27:17I'm pretty pleviged to have had some wonderful opportunities and
- 27:20teams. But yeah, I mean, that's just a
- 27:23wonderful, wonderful place it. Sure is.
- 27:26Well, thank you so much for joining us today, Drew.
- 27:28Excited to see where this injectables and all of your next
- 27:33endeavors take you at Obaji. And we hope you'll come back and
- 27:37give us an update maybe in about 6 months and love to hear how
- 27:41things are going. Love to.
- 27:43That would be exceptionally fun. Thanks for having us and
- 27:46allowing me to tell you a little bit about the evolving Obaji
- 27:49story. I think it's pretty interesting.
- 27:51I'm a little bit biased, but I, I think everyone's kind of
- 27:53watching to be like, wow, can this really work?
- 27:55And if it can, can it work in a way that really helps consumers,
- 27:58helps patients help practices, and kind of sets a new standard
- 28:01and grows the category into a whole different direction?
- 28:04Excited to have the viewers and listeners hear more about Obaji
- 28:08and learn a little bit about Drew.
- 28:10So to all our viewers and listeners, thanks for being
