- Alex: Alright boys, happy Labor Day. man, been a heck of a weekend. I'm sure y'all have been busy. We'll we'll talk through all of that. but good to be back on here. Today we're gonna what chat a little bit about got a lot of golf stuff that has season seems like it's over, but I must say catch up. Walker Cup Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: brought some drama, got the President's Cup coming up, tour championship kind of ended how I think everyone expects it to end, what, three years in a row. Jason: Yeah, something like that. Alex: Sports. I know like for us, sports have kicked off for baseball, but you know, soccer starts next weekend. I know Marcus is getting picked up here. Jason's in the swing of things with the high school golf team picking up. So you know, we'll talk we'll talk some sports. but how's the weekend been boys? Marcus: Man, it's been relaxing, I'll say. We've been all kind of go go go the last the last week it feels like, and kind of we going into that that new role and just kinda spending more time with the family here on weekends. I don't know. Weekends feel a little earned. I don't know, it's gonna be I guess sad to say, but they feel I feel a little bit more I guess at home, one with the family whenever I am at home here on the weekends. we did celebrate my sister in law Kinder Masters for speech pathology here this past weekend. So that was fun. Always good to see see see them. well yeah, it's been busy though. Jason: Yeah, I mean Alex: Yeah, we've been on the flip side of that. We've been go, go, go. Jason: Yeah, yeah, you guys said you've been busy. I I was like trying to pick up a lens from you and you're like, we had a nothing and now we're full blown thing. Alex: Yeah. I think we were home for all of like three hours that day. We were supposed to be home all day. Just had one thing after another got planned and we had we had a pool party two nights ago, a pool party yesterday, and we have another little cookout this afternoon for one of our friends' birthdays. Jason: my god. Marcus: Yeah. To be honest, I think this is this was the last weekend to kind of fully enjoy it because yeah, we're getting into the swing of things now. Jason: I mean, low key. I mean, it's been like I said before we got on, just been a rough few days. had a wedding yesterday, and that was a whole nother emotional story. that we found out a couple months ago about the the groom. so that was tough to also process as we're going through the day. But today's gonna be nice and low key. maybe catch up on some yard work. Grass is like 10 inches tall. I've not touched it. It's been Alex: Ha ha ha Marcus: Yeah. Jason: way too hot. And then HOA sends me a little letter like, you have turf or something growing in your flower beds. And it's there's barely a small patch. And I'm sitting here going, You're complaining about a little bit of extra grass in my flower bed when my lawn looks like the way it does. Like it's so brown. It's so tall. Looks like native grass, like out in the prairies. Marcus: Yeah. Just say you're Alex: Yeah. Marcus: getting US Open ready or something. Jason: That's what it is. Like I'm getting ready getting ready for the President's Cup. Working on my rough skills, you know. Marcus: Yeah. Yeah. Jason: I'm just gonna be get divot marks all out of it here pretty soon. Alex: It's funny what HOAs key in on and what they don't key in on. It's because we had we had something similar, like our I think it was our bushes hadn't been trimmed yet, or tree hadn't been trimmed. It was all it was pretty bad there for a hot minute. And they gave us a violation for like we had some. like grass patches that needed to be filled in. Like it legitimately like we needed to put some sod and grass down. Like it wasn't like they weren't wrong in what they were saying, but I was like, really? Like you're you're gonna focus on the dirt patch, but not the fact that our flower beds and our bushes are completely unmaintained Marcus: Yeah. Alex: right now. Like they're just terrible. Jason: Well, yeah, it and I it's like it's a new person every time that comes by and inspects it and they just have random random crap. Like our stone flower bed two years ago, I don't know what the last time when we had really big rain started the ground was soft and so the stone started just getting pushed down and they're like, you can't and s and so some of the stones fell down and like you can't install a new flower bed without H Way permission. I'm like I responded like, That's been there since we moved in. I was like I'm not doing anything. And then there was another time they they actually started trying to find us because again, just extra grass on the flower beds or something in the flower beds just weren't maintained. And then this is the other one that pissed me off. I guess it's gonna be two years now when we had some really bad, I don't even know if a tornado came through, but so those really strong winds that blew our front gate open, like busted the boards. And I had to replace one single panel. It was literally just one with the latch on it. I replaced it, stained it to whatever color they said, but it didn't match because of the age. And they were bitching about you gotta get full approval for re-staining. I'm like, dude. Like, and Marcus: Yeah. Jason: then this is the best part. Our neighbor had got a notice, hey, you need to re-stain. So he's like, hey, do you want him to restain your gate for a small like yeah, go ahead and rest. It still looks off. The new board looks off, but because now it's all stained, like it looks finished. Marcus: Heck yeah. Jason: They don't care. I was like, golly, you guys are stupid. Alex: I don't I don't think that I have put in a architectural change request at all at this house. Like I'll just I changed our flower beds. Jason: Do it. Alex: We we did our fence. We put eight foot fence four on board cedar. Like I I was like, I'm not putting any of this in. Like you can write me a violation. Like I'm not gonna I I've Jason: Mm mm. Alex: our last house, we were there it was in a starter home neighborhood, right? So I had Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: This is the house that I had bought that Casey moved into. And it it was the last house that they had built, but there obviously there were more to come. So for a while there they could see into my backyard. They could see the playset that was behind the house from Jason: Ha ha ha Alex: the road. And they wrote me a notice that my playset was visible from the road and I didn't ask for permission. I I literally just wanted back and go. I don't need to ask your permission to put something in my backyard. Like it's a play set for my kid. Like, why don't you focus on selling houses so that the lots next to me get houses so that the house will block my play set? Like I love and hate Jason: man. Alex: HOAs. Like I like they keep the neighborhood. Like they're a necessary evil, kinda like taxes. But like it's it's like, dang man, like Jason: Yeah. Marcus: It's like it's like the police, it's like cops, like you know, it's a okay, fine, I'll stay under the speed limit. Yeah. It's Alex: You love to have but you hate them. Marcus: like, yeah, you know, hey, yeah, just kind of police around and it's like, you're gonna write me a ticket for going two miles over the speed limit? It's like, I hate you. Like Alex: I don't know. Marcus: you could have let that one slide. Jason: Dude, I just rolled to the stop sign. I looked both ways. It's fine. Alex: You know, I find it that with both of them, like if you just as much as I say like I write them back, like I write them back very politically nice, like, hey, this is my Jason: Mm. Alex: kid's place like I've never seen this rule before. it's the same with cops. I had that conversation with the boys the other day. Cause it's like if you get caught like doing something wrong, don't make it worse by lying about it. I told about a story I got pulled over, like right before the World Cup, DFW Airport was cracking down on All of theirs and their roadways are ridiculously like everyone drives like 60 miles an hour, but they're really like 35s or 40s. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jason: Should be Alex: especially this, I know they are like posted because I know because I we have a job trailer over there, and I have to drive on International Parkway a lot and I get off on the service road a Jason: Mm. Alex: lot. and like where the service road connects to international parkway going southbound, it it's legitimately like a 35, but you're trying to pick a pace to get onto the to merge into the highway. Anyways, during the FIFA, like right before FIFA came through, they cracked down speed, cops everywhere. I ended up getting pulled over because I was going like fifty something. And the guy was like, Do you know how fast you're going? I was like, Honestly, no. He's like, Well, is there a reason you're going fast? And I was like, Honestly, no. Like there I have no good reason. I'm Marcus: Yeah. Alex: I'm leaving a job trailer. I'm on my way to another meeting. My mind is focused on the next meeting. Like, I got zero reason to be speeding. I'm sorry. Here's my license. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: And he like looks at my stuff. He was like, Well, I appreciate you being honest with me. Just slow down for me. So I told him that story. I was like, if you just own it and like are polite Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: and nice, nine times out of ten, they're gonna give you a warning. Like, just like it's the same with like getting in trouble with your parents, all this stuff. I was like, that's how we They 'cause they just they just lie and make it worse, like little white lies. Marcus: Yeah. Alex: I'm like, Why? Why guys? Just don't be stupid. Just own it and move on and it'll be fine. Jason: Yeah. Like Marcus: Yeah, we're we're dealing a lot right now with they can own it, but then they just start crying. So we're in that phase now. We're like they Alex: Mm. Marcus: know they got caught, they're telling the truth, but they're crying. And so I was like, hey, I just need to know what's going on. Like you're not even in trouble right now. I'm trying to figure this out. And they just I don't know, it's an immediate cry. Alex: Yeah, that that's an Jason: man. Alex: that's not a fun one to deal with either. Jason: No, well, and you know, of course, Miles is what, two and a half, and he's already learned the art of manipulation. And you're sitting here going Alex: Yeah. Jason: like, Holly. It's like you don't want to cave, but at the same time, I mean Alice can contest with Bella that they just look at you and just give you this grin or this look, and you're just like, Fine, whatever, you got away with it, type thing, and then you just let do whatever. And then it's just like I'm gonna regret this later if we keep this up. And so Alex: Yes, that's the problem, because you can't let it slide too much. Jason: Yeah. Well, it's like, where is that line of like, what are we doing? And then he just looks at like for miles, he just says it, then you you ask him like, Wait, what'd you say? And then you repeat it. He says it again, then he just gets this coy grin and just gets bashful. I'm like, You're ridiculous. And now Marcus: Yeah. Jason: he's in a habit of like this is bad. So we've go to you know, go to Target, whatever, Starbucks, and then he just looks and he's tries to say Starbucks, but He just points and the only way we can get him into the push cart is to get him a cake pop. And now he knows every time he goes to Target, he looks over there, he's like and then he's like Marcus: you did that all on your own. Jason: Well, Shelby started it. She started the cake Alex: Yeah, you gotta you gotta nip that one. Marcus: Mm. Jason: pop. And then I'm like, what's going on? And then it stopped. And then all of a sudden we went there and then we all wanted something because we just wanted. And then he's just like, give up. Now it's like automatic. Like, gosh. Alex: Yeah. You gotta nip those, like it's I can't remember what it was. there's a lot of those types of scenarios, but if we stick with like the sweets, like it'll Marcus: Yeah. Alex: say dessert, it's you know, you could do it once and the kids are like they think it's now every night. So then Marcus: Yeah. Every time, yeah. Alex: it's like the next night, did I enough for dessert? And I'll like, No, like we're not getting dessert every night. You need to eat your food to eat your food. Cause Bella will be the worst. She's like She'll finish her dinner or finish her lunch whatever she's eating and then she's like, have a snack. No, if you're still hungry, eat more of what we made you. Like So it's it's a pain to Marcus: Yeah. Jason: Okay. Alex: f curve like anytime you do something once with the kids, they all of a sudden think that it's like the given. We're doing this Marcus: Mm. That's the normal, yeah. Alex: all the time. Jason: But it's funny it's how fast they pick that up. It's like when they do something bad or you're trying to correct, like, hey, brush your teeth. No. Why can't you do that? Like pick up your toys. No. You want a cake pop? Okay. Do you want something? Okay. Alex: We so I got tired of the constant fighting in the house with the kids on chores. So we had a family meeting, did a whole slide deck and everything for this. It was legitimate board meeting style, guys. Jason: You have your laser pointer, you had the music. Marcus: man, why didn't we get called over? I wanted to be in on this. Alex: You could be on the board. Well, we can have a board of advisors. Marcus: yeah. I I'd I'd yeah, I'd take that position, yeah. Jason: my gosh. Hmm Make it really official, we'll come with our ties. Alex: we'll zoom you in. no, like legitimate because Marcus: I accept. Alex: I was getting so tired of the constant fighting. So I was like, This is this is the new standard. Like these are the rules, these are your chores, like each one has different chores. associated bedtime, like trip gets to stay up a little bit later because he has harder chores than Grayson, all this stuff gets a little more screen time. Because it was just getting So bad that nothing was getting done. And I was like, I was getting so tired of the putting off chores. Like Jason says, tell them to do the chores. Like I I was getting tired of telling them to them every day. And then the fact that then they would like put it off and they would get busy and then it wouldn't get done for days. Cause it's like, the next day we have baseball and blah blah blah. So I was like, from now on. It's work before play. Like I don't care. No ifs, ands, or buts. And if it's not done, Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: you're not going to play. Like you're not gonna end up going and playing in your baseball game and you're gonna have to sit and tell your coach why you're not showing up. Or while you're not gonna play. You're gonna sit on Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: the bench. So now it's like first thing every morning, did you make your bed? Did you clean your room? Have you done this? Have you done like they have their strict chores and they don't get to do anything until all that's done 'cause there's no more negotiating. Like it's I'm done with it. I don't I don't play Jason: Gosh. Alex: that game anymore. Jason: See, it's bad for us. Like, hey, make your bed. We don't even make our bed. We just how can we that's the hard part. Alex: It is. I used to I get up before Casey literally, I think every day of the week. Jason: Same. Alex: Cause even on the weekends, like I'm either riding the horse or I'm getting up and doing the podcast and by the time we're done, everyone's awake. So like I don't but when it was just me, like I'd make my bed every morning. I cleaned my room every day. Like I ha I kept a really clean house and it's just like as you get older with kids and busy with sports. the time to clean is tough. Like we don't have anything going on for the most part of today until that cookout. So it'll be our clean day. At least my clean day, in case you'll I don't know what she's planning on doing. Marcus: Yeah. Jason: No, yeah. I mean, I spent part of I mean that's what I I guess on the weekends it's like if I have a downtime, I'll that's my clean. Like do my laundry, vacuum the floors, pick up as much as I can. But yeah, there's a point where it's like, okay, I'm done with this. I'm good with this organized clutter, organized mess, but I need to get some other stuff done. And then that stuff just starts to build up a little more, build up a little more, and then it's like, okay, at some point you're spending the whole day cleaning. Alex: I am I don't do clutter. I'm really bad. Like I'd I hate it and there's a counter in the kitchen that like Jason: There's always a counter. Alex: Everyone everyone just dumps stuff in the kitchen and I'm like, it this Marcus: Yeah. Alex: isn't where it goes. And I'll just throw it on the counter like, y'all, this is it's out of my way because I can't stand like I want a clean kitchen. so I do most of straightening up and I just throw stuff play like it's like get it out of get it out of here, get it out of my way. Like I don't care if you lose it, like it's this isn't where it's supposed to go. I'm about to just start throwing stuff away if it's left downstairs. That's the new rule. Marcus: I think you know what you you asked me to be on the board, but I think Blake might do a better job of advising because she legit like yeah, yeah, I mean, Jason: Marcus would be the opposite. Marcus: just kind of I'm I just know where I'm at. she like gronk spikes like her Alex: G it's funny. Marcus: like the kids' toys that are like, I told you to pick this up, you didn't pick it up, it's been two days, you lost it, and you lost a privilege to ask for anything else going in the trash. Alex: So it's it's funny because Casey and I have said that like we are reversed of all most marriages. Like I'm more the that type a cleaning, you Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: know, kind of and she's so it we'll talk to any couple and it's always like the wife or mom is complaining about having to pick up and clean and all this stuff. And I like, Yeah, that that's my job. Like I do all the cleaning, and that's by Marcus: Yeah. Alex: design, like she does all the laundry. I do all the cleaning. Like that's just how it is. I hate laundry. I don't want to touch laundry. Half the time I Marcus: Yeah. Alex: don't even put it away. Like she just puts it on my side of the closet and I just grab it from the pile and we're good. Well, I don't wear like I barely touch my clothes during the week because I wear dress clothes every day. And I take that to get dry cleaned. Even my jeans, like I get them starched. So I take that like I handle my work clothes and she handles everything else. So like I wear a pair of athletic shorts and a T shirt every day for When I go to bed. Like that's literally it. Jason: That's fine. I do all the cleaning, like picking up. I do and then we do our own laundry, but at least my laundry makes it to our bedroom. Shelby just leaves it in the laundry room, in the basket clean, and then she just goes in there and grabs her clothes out. It's like I'm just like Marcus: Well that's the ultimate move right there. Yeah. Alex: I mean she's she's very efficient, right? Jason: I was just like she Marcus: Don't dog on her. Yeah. Jason: just walked out I was like, what are you doing? It's Alex: It's it's efficiency, sir. Jason: how it is. Okay. We're gonna claim that as efficiency. Alex: she The problem is when you do that, you have to steam like everything before you wear it. 'Cause Marcus: Yeah. Alex: I do the same shit and I have to like I have my steamer like permanently plugged in on by my side of the sink on the kitchen or in the bathroom. It's like I have to steam everything before I wear it. Jason: I don't Steam and I don't I don't care. I just put it on. Marcus: I do I do the halfway thing. I don't know, this might be a life hack. But I do take so all my jeans, I take to the cleaners and I have all my shirts and underwear, shorts, whatever, that gets washed. But as soon as it get it comes out the dryer, 'cause I don't like like wrinkles in my clothes, I'll take all the shirts that I use for work and I'll hang those up, but then I leave the socks, underwear, socks, T shirts in that basket and then whenever I need something I just go and get it. Alex: Yeah. Marcus: Halfway. Jason: Gosh, we we f we we failed our parents. Alex: God, yeah. It's Jason: I remember my mom used to take it all, fold it all, and it's like that's the thing you do and put it upstairs, put it away. Right now. Now we're just like, nah. Marcus: Much easier. Alex: I like to say it's just life stage. Like you're at this age, you're in survival mode and your like your cleanliness and everything that you did. Like when it was just me and Trip, I had every other weekend to deep clean the house and you know, it it was the house was never more than a week out from a nice deep cleaning and very straightened Jason: Hm. Alex: and vacuumed and it was always nice. But now it's like we have something every weekend. Like I could tell you last Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: time that we just sat at home on a weekend to even clean. So it's like then you have to implement a like staged deep clean of the house where it's like we're Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: gonna hit these two rooms this weekend and then next weekend we might hit and then hopefully you deep clean the entire house in stages every like quarter at best. Cause it's just like it's impossible to find the time to do it. But that's also the other thing. The boys, as part of their chores, the whole upstairs is cleaned by them now. As part of their chores. Every because they're at the house every other weekend. with their schedule. And they have a Jack and Jill. So it's like it's required that they clean their vanity and bath or or yeah, their part of the bathroom and their bedroom weekly. Like wiped down, cleaned. Every other week they clean the toilet and bath part of their Jack and Jill, and then we have another guest bathroom upstairs that the other one has to clean, so they'll alternate. And then trip vacuums upstairs every week. So we've we've at least got it to where the upstairs is being deep cleaned once every other week. I mean, by 10-year-old, Jason: That's good. Alex: but it's still it's better than not at all. Marcus: Better than better than most. Jason: It's like hey, you guys trashed it, you clean it. No, like Shelby and I talked Alex: That's my Jason: about it. Yeah. Like I'll say, like we talked about, like you said, deep clean per section. We just started having the conversation as well. Just like maybe one weekend when we don't have any weddings, we're kind of slow ish. Let's tackle the pantry. Like the pantry's horrible. Like old stuff, refrigerator, clean all that out. Then a couple like when it gets cooler. Tackle the backyard. We gotta redo our whole backyard. All this stuff's just trashed. So yeah, do it in phases and then just let's see where it goes. Alex: Well yeah, and it's the grocery thing. That's the one thing, like, again, Jason: Yeah. Alex: with me being the chef of the house, like every week I I'm gonna say every week, I I try to clean out the pantry and fridge. Like Casey will order all the new groceries and when she does that I'll completely go through and do a sweep, get all the old gross crap out, get it over. so I I try to clean those two, but like Right now our dishwasher is not really working, which is fun. I think a drain's clogged, so I gotta go mess with that today because it's not draining. So we're having to hand wash everything. So that's slowing us down a little bit. dude, it's been the summer from hell in our house. Like Jason: You got your air conditioner, now your dishwasher. Alex: we have a 20-year-old house, so I get it. Like it's it's the time. But man, Jason: Yeah. Alex: it has legitimately been the summer from hell with fixing crap. And we d we just don't have the time to do any of that. Like, especially when like y'all, you have a side job. I I don't have like I've barely had I'm I'm halfway through the Fields Ranch edit and most of that came in the past seventy two hours because I've been able to finally be upstairs because our HVAC has been somewhat working. So I could actually sit in the big screen and edit the video. But it's like I'm sitting here, I have things I need to be doing downstairs. I have plenty I need to do, but it's like it just piles up and there's you have so much. It's like now I got a triage, what do I focus on? Jason: Mm, yeah. That's what it is. It's like what's priority. I was gonna say before we move on, like we use we have our upstairs. I just run our robot vacuum upstairs. That's about as bad as as good as it gets. Alex: Which is fine though. It's 'cause a lot of it's maintenance. If you can just maintain it, but then like you take the big vacuum up and deep clean it once a month or once Jason: Hm. Alex: every other month, like that's perfectly fine. Like we need to do something like that because it's well now that we have trip vacuuming every week, like it's better 'cause that that's the biggest thing. Like the stairs Jason: Yeah, yeah. Alex: with with the traffic going up and down the stairs, like you don't realize Marcus: Yeah. Alex: how dirty those get. But if you do it like just once every other week, it doesn't really get bad. Jason: Yeah, stairs Alex: So Jason: stairs are horrible. They need a good carpet clean. They barely get touched. Alex: Yeah, or no. So Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: well, nice little impromptu HOAN cleaning discussion there. Jason: Mm cleaning and life priorities and Alex: let's talk a little golf here. So did y'all watch the Jason: Yeah. Alex: Walker Cup at all? I didn't really watch, I followed it. I was following Jason: I followed. I Alex: all the updates. Jason: 'cause I think the the timing of it, you know, is in great it was over in Europe and so just, you know, Alex: Yeah. Jason: broadcasting and all that stuff. So yeah, I followed it. But I know I mean, I know the first day we were hurting and then they came back in the second part foursomes or second day early foursomes. and then it just then it just turned into a battle. Alex: Yeah, it did. it did. And I mean it really came down to the end. And that was one thing that I was looking at because I wanted to be accurate here. So there it was up to like one. I mean, thirteen and a half, twelve and a half. That means it really could have gone either way, right? Like a Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: single putt could have changed this thing. But Everything had to go right for Europe for them to win on those last few holes. Cause it came down to four matches on eighteen, seventeen, eighteen and eighteen. And they had to win each of those and they they ended up pulling it out. So a little bit of a heartbreak. But I mean the biggest thing is US's dominance at Europe has always been I mean it's kind of the opposite of the Ryder Cup. We've always done great over there. But you know, we lost. Obviously. we have a lot of great talent on that team though. Jason: Yeah, I'd be curious to see of who on that team makes it through, like develops into somebody big. Alex: That's always the hard thing. 'cause like you get so much pressure, right? Th these young players, it's like they immediately get and I can't remember who the last one was, that got Jason: Scotty. Alex: that like well, you just got to know, but young player. Cause I know like it was Tom Kim, Jason: Mm, okay. Alex: like people were saying, like, he's the first one to do this since Tiger Woods. Like it's always that comparison and it's like You get immediate pressure. Jason: Yeah. I was looking up because I was curious because just like looking at the s names and of course Poulter's kid is making waves and then Charlie Woods just signed an NIL deal with Taylor Maine. And so I'd be curious to Alex: I saw that. Jason: see if he makes it. But I was just kind of looking at who was kind of like the the names of the past handful of Walker Cups. Obviously Scotty, Colin, Jordan, Fowler. JT, Homa, Harman. I didn't know Harman was that good of a golfer, to be honest. thought he was there and got lucky. DJ, Horschel, Cantley, and Glover. That's just the short that's really the notable ones who are on the Walker Cup team. To kind of give you a snapshot of like who currently is playing well or who's in the mix, but is was not on the team. Like Alex: Yeah. Jason: Coven. Coven Didn't I don't think played on a Walker Cup or Alex: Koivan. Yeah, yeah. Jason: Quaven? Goder up. Like who are these other bigger, younger guys? Blades Brown, but of course he's probably gone a different route. So it's curious to see. Like it's kinda like to me it's feels like it's kind of like a Heisman thing. Like you could be really good at this amateur level, get the Heisman Award, and then you get to the big time and then it's like, now what? Alex: Yeah, it's it's tough. And if you look at the president or the Walker Cup team, I mean it's all twenty and twenty one year olds, which is I mean, duck. It's Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: amateur. they're not pro yet. I mean you do have Stuart Hagestad, which I think is hilarious that he qualifies for this team every year. And he's 35 years old and he's just a frickin' singles menace against the team. So me he's seven and one, which is insane. But so he's like the grandpa, fifteen years older than the rest of the team. Like legitimately, like I guess fifteen or fourteen, because there's a couple 21-year-olds. Jason: but I've heard of this kid. I don't think Ethan Fang went to Plano's from Plano. Alex: really? I hadn't heard any of them. except for obviously Miles Russell. Jason: I think he he went to Plano yeah, Miles and I don't know much about Miles Russell, I just hear his name more. but yeah, I think Ethan Fang was a Plano West kid. But he went to OSU, so he's been out for a few years, but I I've heard his name a Alex: So Jason: few times. Alex: Miles Russell runs in the same circuit as Charlie Woods out in Florida. He's from Jacksonville Jason: Mm-hmm. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: Beach. so they've played against each other, they've played with each other a little bit because he's same age, seventeen years old. So I think I he's technically higher on the he's fourth in the world amateur golf rankings. So he's higher than Charlie. So he's really good and he's played one or two PGA events, either sponsor exemption or or qualified somehow, I think. I'm pretty sure. I could be wrong. No, yeah. Jason: Okay, so he Alex: He received a sponsor invite to the Butterfill Bermuda Championship and the Rocket Mortgage Classic in twenty twenty four. So he's played in Jason: As a fifteen year old. Alex: yeah, so he's played in a couple PGA events already. Jason: He's so he's only like seventeen Alex: He's a lefty. Jason: years old. Alex: Yeah. So he's he's big. I like how they have that in his player profile. Plays left-handed. Well, I I you didn't you didn't really need to tell me that. Like we don't put plays right handed in anyone else's. Yeah, so he's he's kind of another one of those big up and carry but he's the only name other than Stuart Hagastad, he's the only name that I knew on the Walker company. Jason: Yeah, I guess that he's like he is like the old man on the team. my gosh. I'm looking at the list. Alex: But you also have a you also have a Preston Stout that's from Richardson. Jason: Yeah, I saw that. I don't I've never heard of this guy. He looks older too. Alex: Yeah, he's twenty one. He's a senior at Oklahoma State University. Wow. Mm good golfer too. he's number one in the world golf rankings. Amateur. Look at our Texas boys showing up. Jason: Ethan Fang's twenty-one. I don't know what his ranking is yet. I haven't just Alex: Well that doesn't make sense. maybe I was wrong. What is that doesn't make sense. It says Ethan Fang is four as well. Cause they have it at the top of it's but then Miles Russell is also four. That doesn't make any sense. Jason: that's why I know Fang. His 'cause when I went to regionals, I w we were paired up with Plano West and their coaches and Ethan Fang invited his coach because Ethan went to the masters this last year. So he was able to go, I think, Wednesday and walk Alex: Gotcha. Jason: along with them on the practice round. Alex: Gotcha. That's cool. Jason: I knew I was like, I knew the name was just like cool. Alex: That's really cool. Jason: Yeah, I don't know. I'd be curious to see what this group It is kind of cool to see names that maybe you start to come familiar Alex: Yeah. Jason: with or people you've had like some kind of crossover with in some way. Alex: Yeah, for sure. you know, I Jason: we'll see how it all shapes up. Alex: I don't love that right now w we are sucking in the match play. I say sucking lovingly, obviously. Like we lost by a point. but we don't hold the Walker Cup trophy, we don't hold the Ryder Cup trophy, Jason: It's Alex: so we really need to win the President's Cup, or it's just gonna be a really bad two years for the US. Jason: But traditionally the US tends to do always way better in the President's Cup. And they always think it translates Marcus: This will be the year. Jason: they always seem to say it translates Alex: Yeah, but the Jason: to the Ryder Cup, but it doesn't because it's like a different group of players. Alex: But the problem is the problem is they decided to go young in the president's cup to give some experience. So I do I do Jason: Yeah. Alex: like the thought process because we're building the experience for the Ryder Cup, because a lot of these players will obviously end up going at some point. But I mean, you have Coivan and Bridgeman that are both young players. Jason: Right. Alex: Obviously Chris Godrup's never played in one of these before, so he's gonna be really good or really bad. Jason: Yeah. Alex: automatic qualifiers are automatic qualifiers. You can't do anything about them. I didn't like the Russell Henley Ryder Cup, but Jason: How did he become how did he get automatic? Was 'cause he just did he win this year? Alex: Well, it's a two year cycle for qualifying for these events, so last year probably carried him into this year. 'Cause he had a good year last year. Jason: Are they f Yeah, 'cause he did not play well. He didn't play well this year though, I don't think. Alex: No. Jason: And Morokawa is Alex: No. Jason: better this year than last year, but still like Alex: Well, and Wyndham Clark wasn't great last Jason: Well. Alex: year, but obviously had a great season this year. Jason: He had a great season. Alex: So he ended up qualifying, but he's always a I don't like the word Blues Cannon, 'cause it's like you just don't know what you're gonna get from him. Like he could have when he's hot, he's really freaking good. Like he's a good golfer. That's why he wins majors, but when he's off, he's off. Yeah, he Jason: It's like Kepka. Like literally he he's in there. Alex: Yeah, a hundred percent. Kabka falls in that exact statement. Like when the guy is When the guy's on his game, he is hard to freaking beat. But it's like you don't know if you're gonna get the Brooks Kafka that wins or the one that just seems to not care. Jason: obviously Scotty Cam Young. I don't know, Cam Young, he had a good year, but I don't Alex: Dude, he was nothing wrong with that pick. Don't even start. He rider cup like phenom in New York. Jason: Yeah, but it's just automatic. Like, I'm just I just hope he can sustain. I love him as a player. Like I hope he can sustain 'cause he'll go through a little bit of a roller coaster and just but I think turned a c I think he has Alex: I think he's a really good kid. Jason: turned a corner. Like that that Alex: Yeah. Jason: next stravel has clicked that as now Alex: Yeah. Jason: hopefully get him elevated. Burns Alex: Yeah, I think he's a really good kid. Jason: Burns, I've always liked Burns. I d you just don't know what he's gonna get. He can be really good and solid or miss cuts, just like Wyndham. Alex: Yeah, I think I think the problem we're gonna have is the same problem we have with Team Europe is the camaraderie and the like connections. Cause if you look at the international team, they kind of like paired up nationals, right? They they picked two Canadians that are gonna be paired together and they have a great relationship. I think they're really good friends in Connors and Taylor. You obviously have you know, a couple Aussies that all play great Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: together. You have your Koreans, you have the Japanese, so you have Matsuyama, then they picked Marcus: No. Alex: Hitsatsun as well. So it's like they like thought about how can we set up our people. So they picked someone that is from that same nationality and they're gonna be playing together. I don't know if that was intentional if it just worked that way. I mean, obviously his at Soon had a great year. Like he's his name has con consistently been up in the leaderboard. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: so but it's just interesting how they plan to do that. And you have to as an American team, you have to somehow find the same connection. I don't know, like we just don't have that. You can go grab two Texans, I guess, like put them together and see what happens. But Jason: No, I mean, realistically, that's always been a Ryder Cup issue. President's Cup, I d we just tend to do better Presidents Cup because I think it's just you've got a bigger pool to pull from when the international side, but they've got four rookies on their squad this year. Ryan Fox only made it just because he won the open and Alex: Auto qual cause he won, yeah. Jason: at Shavara, I guess he's just a had a decent year and then Nick Taylor. Alex: Yeah, Nico had a really good year. Jason: And then Nick Taylor got in. Alex: Yeah, but Nick Yeah, Nick Taylor's good too, though. Like he's consistent. So the more Jason: manually, yeah. Alex: the more interesting thing, did you know? So we're playing at Medina, right? Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: Did you know that that is a Jeff Ogilvy renovation design? And Jason: Mm. Alex: Jeff Ogilvie is the international captain. Jason: When did he redesign it? 'Cause the Medina's been around for a while. Alex: it's been around for a while, yeah. it I I don't know when it was redesigned. That's a great question. But Jason: Interesting. That was a that's well played. Let's play on a course that you've made. Alex: Yeah, it's like well we pick it. Like we pick the course. It's not like it's it's not like there's a rota out there that they just like, it's the next one on the rotation. This is what we have to do. Like we pick the course and it's like, why would we pick a course that we know the intern the likely international captain is the architect of the redesign? Like he knows all of the lines there. He designed the the dang renovation. Jason: Jeez, that does give an advantage. But I mean at the same time it it's just the little caveats. But I mean, these guys have played most of them have played Medina or they're gonna be playing Medina a few times before they get to the match. So you'd think they'd do their job and survey it and all that stuff. So Alex: twenty twenty four. Jason: It'll be it gives some advantage, but it doesn't it does play out a little bit, balance out. Alex: Maybe, but I the whole point in having home filled advantages for the course knowledge and Jason: That's what we said about the Ryder Cup. We got spanked. Alex: And the fact that like this guy knows just as much about the course. Yeah, it's I don't know. I feel like we could have feel like we could've been a little smarter there, but Jason: those picks were bad. We knew that. We knew that going in. Alex: Yeah. So it it'll be interesting. I'm excited for Coivan. Dude, I was listening to a podcast with him the other day and it's I don't know if it's just like if that's his normal personality, but he what do they call it? Like just one of those like vanilla personalities. Like he wasn't offering much on the podcast, like very quiet, like two word answers to all the questions. Like I and that's could be a very good thing as a golfer. Like if you're just unflappable and kinda just, you know, Jason: Sound sounds like Shawffli. She's I love Shawffly, but he he's like Alex: Yeah. Very even keel. Jason: even keel, but doesn't seem like he has a lot of personality. I know he does, 'cause I've seen him elsewhere. It's just like Alex: Yeah, like yeah, they all do. Yeah. Jason: very simple, quick, like not snarky Alex: I Jason: or anything. Alex: Well, he's the youngest pick since Jordan Speeth, so and Jordan but that was a in Jordan Speeth's major run in twenty fifteen, so Jason: I don't mind Shaffly as a pick because he's pretty consistent. JT I feel like JT's getting a little old. Alex: He I mean we say he's getting Jason: And he's not as con he's I don't know. Alex: old. He's what, like thirty-two. he's been around, I think I'm I'm very torn on picking him for the reason of like you're right, I think he's his he hasn't been on top of his game. He's very hit or miss. Like he but he does seem to do well in these events. Like even in the last Ryder Cup, I think he did decent. But he's he's kind of become the lifeline of international play for us. Like he's kind of that like it was Patrick Reed for a little bit, like Captain America, like that's kind of JT now. Like he's the cheerleader, Jason: feel like he's Alex: he's the one getting it going. Jason: like he's the the American cheerleader. Alex: Yeah, he's kinda like the culture of the team. So it's like and he doesn't have to play as much, right? He they don't have to play him. They can sit him for every session until singles if they really wanted to. So that's what I'm Jason: Yeah. Alex: saying. I'm I'm torn on having him because he is so hit or miss. But he is really good at singles. I think he's got a pretty good record. I can look it up. Jason: What about Cantley? Yeah. Alex: God, d I don't know 'cause I can't stand to watch the guy play. He's so frickin' Jason: So s Alex: slow. Marcus: Yeah. Jason: Gantley's bad. Like I can't either. Alex: I know our producer is supposed to be looking at stats for me, but I'm pulling it up. Marcus: Yeah, what's up with that guy? Alex: dude, no, I can't can't lay it's just so freaking slow. I struggle. He's I I don't know the guy personally, so it's so hard, but like from a from a public perception perspective, don't really like him. Like he's just I don't know. Just seems like your typical, like rich country club guy. Jason: really okay. I just I look at him, I'm like, Alex: So I just can't Jason: I don't wanna watch you. Alex: Yeah, it's just I can't do the slow play either. Like y'all know me. I'm a fast golfer and I can't stand that slow play. wow. I guess Jason: Okay, he's done real good. That's why they like him. Alex: I am I am wrong. He is so JT is opposite of Ryder Cup. He is 0 and 3 in singles matches in the President's Cup, but 4 and 0 in the Ryder Cup. Marcus: He's due. He's due. Jason: But his overall record his overall presidence is ten and three. Alex: But he's six and in team format of the President's Cup. Jason: Yeah. Alex: So he's dominating the team format of the President's Cup and getting smoked every year in the singles. So that is that's opposite of the Ryder Cup. Because the Ryder Cup, I think he's has a mixed Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: record on the team format, but he's dominant in the singles. Jason: Yeah, Ryder Cup he's three two two, four some he's two Alex: Yeah. Jason: four Alex: Yeah. That's interesting. I wonder why. I wonder why that's the case. Jason: Okay, Cantley, he's solid in presence scope. He's ten four and Alex: Yeah, I I don't argue that the guy's not a good golfer, he's just so f fricking hard to watch. Jason: Ryder cuppies Ryder Cupies the He really hates him. Alex: I can't do slow golfers, man. Him and Brian Harman, like I've listened to Brian Harman on podcasts and like I like the guy. Like he seems like just a down to earth country boy from Georgia, but I can't stand to watch him play. Like it it short circuits my brain watching his waggles. Jason: Yeah. Alex: Like It's it's so bad. Jason: Well Alex: But maybe there's a reason they're on tour and I'm not, and that's just one of many. Jason: No, that's it. Marcus: You gotta waggle. Jason: no, I mean Alex: Gotta waggle more. Marcus: Yeah. Jason: of those three captains picks, Xander is probably the most consistent and best overall for record wise, but he's also he's played in a couple less than I think JT. But Alex: Yeah. Jason: so I like the cap I mean, overall the captain's picks were I think smart picks for the US. I said I don't know about Cot Gotter up. Or Bridgemen, how they'll perform. They could be rookie sensations or totally get waxed just 'cause it's like a h new event. Alex: Yeah. Well, it'll be interesting to see how it goes. Jason: But when does it play? When is it actually? Alex: Couple of weeks. It's at the end of September, last weekend. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Jason: Okay, that's what I thought. Alex: Yes, three weeks away. So we'll get plenty of Presents Cup news over the next three weeks. Jason: Yeah. So a quick side note, Alex: yeah. Jason: when do you think Tiger will actually ever come back? Iffy. Alex: Dude, okay, so glad he brought that up. I said it in our text thread when we said that. I I think this is like the best thing that's ever happened to him. Now he doesn't have to drive. Jason: I think so. Alex: He's not allowed to drive. Like, we might see T Tiger come back in dominant form and win another major. The guy doesn't have to drive at all. Like, just people drive him around, don't have to worry. Like, maybe it'll be good for him. Well, if you Marcus: I would've I would have thought he figured that out long time ago. Alex: If you look at dude, I I've always questioned, well, Jason: Yeah, you were right. Alex: it's like you have this and you have the Tony Romo thing that came out. And I've always said, like, y'all make enough money. Like I get you want your secrecy and independence and whatever, right? You don't want to feel like sub like you're being babysat or whatever. But multiple things. Because we know Tiger doesn't exactly have the best track history with being a faithful relationship person. So if your concern is like That you want to go do that kind of stuff and you want to be able to drive yourself to it because you don't want anyone to know. Like, I'm pretty positive you can make your driver sign an NDA and just pay them a lot of money and they're not gonna say anything. Like that's that's probably how that works. So I think you can figure it out. like if if that's your whole goal. But if not, like just get a driver to drive you. Like it's you have a multi million, like for Tony Romo, you have a multi million dollar contract. with CBS, like why are you gonna put that at risk because you just wanna drink while playing golf? Like just have a driver. You have plenty of money, just let them drive you everywhere. I would kill to have that kind of money to where I could just have a driver take me everywhere. Marcus: Be nice. Jason: I mean shoot. Uber for Pete's sake. Gosh. Alex: Yeah, I mean there's so many options. But like all of Tiger's most of his I I don't want to use the word scandal because I don't think scandal's the right word for the recce at in California, but all of his newsworthy stuff has involved a car. Like his back in what, 2008, 2009 or whatever, when his Marcus: Mm-hmm. Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: wife smashed out his window while he was trying to drive away. Car. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: Flips a car in California. D has this DUI where he flips a car, like Jason: And then there's an Alex: It's a common denominator. Maybe just don't get in a car. Jason: there is another arrest where he was pulled over, he was found pulled over or on a Florida highway. No accident, but they pulled him over and they were just like, Dude, like, what's going on? Like it was kind of Alex: Yeah, it's Jason: hush hush, but yeah, I it came up with all this stuff that he had another and it's like, okay, dude, you'd obviously most likely like they says pain medication. You've had several back surgeries, knee surgeries. You're you're hurting. Alex: Mm-hmm. Jason: You're older. But one good thing I think they noticed, like even since the accident, he would always constantly have that sleeve, compression sleeve on his leg. But ever since he came back from Switzerland, they said he's barely used it. He's been out in public without seeing and on. So I don't know if he also got physical therapy or was the compression Alex: I'm sure. Jason: sleeve a total mental. Thing. Alex: I I I it wouldn't surprise me if he was getting just everything done while he was over there. I mean, he's rehabbing from the pain meds, but also just getting his body right and probably learning how to deal with the pain. And honestly, it could be one of those things where the pain meds were preventing him from really getting better because he's not feeling the pain. So he, you know Maybe now he's coming off it, he could feel the pain. So then he did physical therapy that helped the leg truly heal instead of Jason: Mm. Alex: just getting by with pain meds. So I think there's a lot of good and bad. But man, anytime these celebrities get in trouble for the DWI, it's just like this is stupid. Like completely preventable. It's preventable for them. Like you could just get a driver. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Jason: But yeah, I mean, I I would love to agree and actually what get on board with now that he doesn't have to drive, hopefully he's right at his management of his pain and whatever else he's had going on and he could truly maybe focus again and train Alex: Yeah. Jason: properly. And he I mean, obviously he could still strike the ball. He could still play. There's no question about it. It's just maybe with this new rejuvenation 'cause he seems like he was happy that he got his license suspended, like he's seems like he's in a good place because he was spotted out at Stanford game and but I don't know, we'll see. Alex: Yeah, Stanford game that Miami whoops and bought. Jason: Yeah. So I don't know. Maybe Marcus: Okay. Jason: it'll be it like it is all maybe a good thing for him to get healthy and kinda renew himself. Alex: Yeah, it his issue to your point, he's been able to swing, like he still has the shots. Like I think when he has come back and played, he's done relatively fine. Like he's qualified for are qualified. He's made the cut in a lot of the tournaments that he's come back and played in. But it seems like it's always that third round that he really struggles in. So I don't know if it's just the Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: longevity with his body. can he put four rounds together in one weekend walking like that? I think Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: that's always come to be the big issue. But I Jason: Yeah. Alex: I I'm with you. Like he can still swing the club. Like if you look at it, you have all these kind of older guys that are getting well, even Kevin Kissner's not old. I think he's forty. I think he's the same age as Tiger, he's like in that forty two range. It's they start to lose the driver speed. Tiger is still hitting a ball in 180 miles an hour. Like it's not it's not like he has lost a ton of speed. So he's able to keep up with most of the big hitters. so it's he he can do fine. It's just keeping him healthy for four straight days. Jason: yeah. I mean, shoot, speaking to even some of my kids and then even though you and I have talked about it, like, sure you could still swing it and get it, let's say 290, right? That's still plenty, but he also has enough skill that he can also just play it back, play more manageable. He's got all the clubs, right? He can use his five, six, three, or four, whatever five would to hit into the green to position himself better instead of trying to always keep up with the the big hitters. He can play a much different style of game, which he may already be on the evolution of doing, right? Less stress on his body, torque, play a little bit, not on a say old band golf, but more efficient. So his body doesn't break down on him in the like the third round. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Jason: but, you know, maybe with all this healing, his body can handle that four days, you know, going through. But even talk to my kids, it's like You don't always need a hit driver, right? Lay it back into a safer spot, take less club, take an easier swing. Like there are ways to still shoot really well without having to just collaborate and try to hit it perfect every time. Even though it looks great, feels good Alex: Yeah. Jason: when you do it, but the consistency is not always there. Alex: So I didn't realize he's 50, by the way. But in twenty twenty-six, Jason: Yeah. Alex: I thought he was still in his forties. in twenty so he's actually Marcus: I'll always be young. Alex: he actually qualifies for the champions tour now. So we very likely Jason: He does. Alex: could see him in that. but February of twenty twenty six, he logged his fastest ball speed at 177. Like, and that's up that's equivalent to gonna say that second tier of pros. Because you have the fast pros. you know, Bryson and you know, I think Cam Young and a couple other guys that are probably four to five miles an hour faster than that on average. But but like I think JT is in that one seventy upper one seventy range on average. I think Scotty, Jason: Think Colin is. Alex: I think Scotty and Colin are both 'cause Scotty's like a big, big hitter, but I mean he can hit the ball, but So I think they're all kind of in that one seventy eight to one eighty two ish range. So Tiger's keeping up with them. if he goes out to the Championsore, he can run the tables. Jason: he probably will. I mean I don't see him not going to the champions tour. Marcus: I would I would I would want to see that. Jason: It'll be like when he first came out. Alex: Well, he might if he's if he's smart, he will take a cart on the champions tour since most of the guys are anyways. And Jason: I think that's one caveat, like it's allowed. So he I think he said he would use a card. Yeah, that's right. Alex: Yeah. In in fairness, it's Marcus: Well, and then you would have a driver too, so Alex: God, yeah. Can you can you drive a golf cart if you're having to suspend a driver's license? Marcus: I think if it's not Jason: No, actually that was on the news, a big question. The judge even said, I'll have to get back to you on that one. Alex: That's funny. I didn't even think about that. Yeah, Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: no, so he you he could technically get a cart on the PJ tour. He can get an exemption to get in the cart with all of his injuries, and it would they would do it. They just he doesn't want to. Jason: He doesn't want to. He's yeah yeah. Marcus: Provoked. Yeah. Alex: So will he want to in the champions tour? I don't know. Maybe it's more socially acceptable there, so he will. Marcus: What what would be the equivalent of a tiger slam in the champions tour? 'Cause that would Yeah. Alex: Dude, I know nothing about the Champions Tour. Jason: Th don't they have they have I think Alex: Other than the fact that Hoosh McCall's it Marcus: Let me let me look that up real quick. Jason: Yeah, come on producer, look it up. I think they have their set of majors. They have the senior open Marcus: Yeah, they do have Alex: Well, they have the seni they have the senior open and they they just don't have a masters, but they have a senior open, they have a senior Jason: Yeah. yeah. Alex: US open, they have a senior PJ Championship. Jason: President of a master's Marcus: Yes, senior PGA, US senior, Alex: Yeah, that the they don't have a masters. Marcus: senior open. And regions tradition. Alex: So they have four majors. So he he could do a tiger Marcus: Yeah. Alex: slam of the champions tour, four majors. Jason: Ha ha ha. Marcus: That'd be cool. Alex: I mean, at this point he just needs to overtake Bernard Longer on overall wins on the seniors tour. Marcus: Mm. Jason: How many did sea have? Alex: God too many. He's frickin' he's still he's always up there. It's ridiculous. Marcus: He's always on there. Yeah. Jason: speaking of Bernard, I mean actually I could see if he's healthy Tiger 'cause what we're getting into the fall, he could make his appearance at the P and C again with Charlie. Kind of like a intro back. 'Cause you get the cart, Alex: Dude. I'd love to see that. Jason: it's just two days, just Alex: Well, and Charlie's hitting the ball. I mean, we started seeing Charlie when he was what, like twelve? Jason: Yeah. Alex: 13, something like that, and he was playing up and now he is a grown man at 17, 18 years old, has a tailor-made sponsorship and can hit the ball just as far as any of these guys. Like those two could be a deadly duo if Tiger can actually play in it. So maybe he will play in it. You're right. He's got four months to three Jason: Yeah, and Charlie's Charlie's growing up, yeah. Alex: months to prep for it. Jason: Like all the guys who've won Alex: So Jason: with their dads, it's it's the older kid because he's got just got more experience. Alex: Well, better shots, yeah. You it's not just on the dad to pull off T to green, Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: right? So now they can actually use Charlie's drives. Well, they were using Charlie's drives anyways, because he was hitting so far forward of Tiger Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: for a little bit there. So as long as he hit it straight. I remember doing some of that stuff with trips, some of the PJ stuff up here at the club. And there were times that like he was teeing off twenty yards behind where my ball landed. So I like, dude, like as long as you Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: hit this straight and thirty yards, we're taking your ball. Like it's a shoe win. So all you have to do is hit a decent drive here. So it just makes it easier when they're teeing off that much farther than you. But Charlie's not gonna be able do that anymore. He's gonna be teeing off from or Tiger does, if I had to guess. Jason: he is. But he's also hitting it further than Tiger now, so Alex: yeah, producer. What's his average ball speed? Jason: Tiger says he hits it further. Or he has hit it further than him. Marcus: Charlie's? Let's see. Sorry, I was I was looking the Alex: Charlie's. He said he did once because he hit kind of a spinner and Charlie hit a tumbler. Those those were his exact words to call in Morikawa. Yeah, that was Jason: But that was like a couple of years ago. But Charlie's definitely gotten Marcus: His ball speeds Alex: a year or two ago. Marcus: between one sixty five and one seventy six. Alex: Yeah, so he's a little I mean, the one seventy six is really close to Tiger's top end too. But if I had to guess, he's not delivering the club as consistently Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: as Tiger, so that's a bigger window than Tiger has. So yeah, I think he can outdrive Tiger. I think that's the the conclusion there. He has the speed too. Jason: biggest thing the biggest thing is like is Charlie developing the shot shaping creativity that his dad has. A lot of these guys don't a lot of these pros don't have the same shot shaping skill. It's it's obvious. Alex: No one Yeah, no one teaches that anymore. It's weird. Everyone Marcus: Yeah. Alex: teaches like the one shot, like even DJ, right? Or I think it was Colin, Mark Howard, I think, said like one of one of those two said that their draw is just a straight ball because they're both faders. Like they don't really hit that true, like big draw. I mean, Scotty can shape it always. Like he seems to have the nine shots in the bag. It doesn't look conventional, but like he can hit a draw. Jason: I mean that's the thing. That could be what also separates him right now 'cause he has more shot shaping ability. Alex: I obviously hate to compare anyone to Tiger, but if you look at Scotty's stats versus Tigers, like at a similar stage of their career, they're almost identical. It and I I think I think the difference is like you knew or people knew that Tiger was Tiger. Like they knew he was someone to be watching for. But there's so much good talent out there on PJ tour, like you don't think Scotty is the next thing, but you then you look at his stats compared to Tigers and you're like, shoot, are we in the middle of like the next big person? He might not ever hit 82 wins. He might not get fifteen majors. Like he might get 10. He might finish at 70 wins. But is he the next? Is he gonna be the second best golfer to ever play? Third best, whatever, top five. And like everyone just doesn't Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: really I think he's just so even keel and doesn't ever hit the headlines other than his wins. Just like we've talked about. He's just a very I say boring in in the not traditional way. It's a very boring golfer and a very boring individual, meaning s he you don't ever hear anything bad about him. He stays out of the news and he plays fair Jason: Except when he got pulled over. Alex: fairway green golf. Like he's just a very blah kind of person. Whereas Tiger has Marcus: Who Scotty? Alex: that firepower. Yeah. Jason: Yeah. Marcus: The Negro jail? Jason: He did go to jail. Marcus: Free Scotty. Alex: True Jason: He was coughed in. Alex: True Marcus: Maybe there's something to do with going to jail and like being really good at golf. We might need to rethink this. Jason: It hardened him. The the the twenty the less than twenty-four hours hardened Scotty. Marcus: I need you to get belligerent, Alex. Go to jail for like a day and then come back. Yeah. Alex: I need go to jail for a day. Okay. I speaking of this, I'm gonna give some free advertising. I think we all know Taylor Sheridan, right? The Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: show creator, Yellowstone, Lioness, Landman, love all of his shows. So he ended up letting helping someone he met in a weightlifting gym write a book. This guy had been to prison. I reached out to Taylor because he was like, I really I'm in a bad way. I need help with money. And Taylor's like, look, like I don't I have a zero percent track record on lending money to friends, but what I'll do is I'll think about it. And anyways he thought about it, came back to him, was like, Hey, you went to prison. Let's write a travel guide on how to survive prison. It's called How to How to Not Die in Prison or something that. Marcus: Nice. Alex: I've been listening to it, it's my audio book that I've been listening to. And if if it's taught me anything, it's I We'll do anything to stay out of prison. That is a freaking dude, it is Marcus: Yeah, don't accept the honey bun. Don't accept it. Alex: a freaking like it's talking about how to make a shiv and it's talking about like there's nothing more disheartening than hearing the sound of metal scraping on a floor because you know that that's them sharpening said shiv. It's talking about how to like make a hot plate in your gel cell so that you can cook your own food because the food is trash. Like it is I listen to this thing and I'm like, it it will scare you straight. Like, I I ain't doing anything wrong. I'm not, I do not want to go to prison. It's the last place I want to go. Marcus: Mm. Jason: This conversation just went another direction. Marcus: Well, we we're looking for any kind of edge here. And that seems to be the common denominator right now. Besides the whole practicing, you know, for however many hours this this seems like a shortcut, to be honest. Yeah. Jason: There you go. Shortcut to success. Go to prison for twenty four hours. Marcus: so looking at sorry, I was I was looking up some kind of senior major wins and seeing if anyone Jason: Mm-hmm. Marcus: has the career grand slam and obviously Bernard Longer has the only one to hold the career grand slam, in that. So there is room for a Tiger Slam in the senior major championship. Jason: All right. Marcus: A lot of have been close. I think he's he's held three in one year. even Steve Stricker has about two or three in a year, but never all all five. So More you know. Alex: Yeah. that's why I was looking at Tiger and Scotty's stats. so in the three year age window of twenty eight to thirty, they are dead even in wins. Majors is four for Tiger, three for Scotty. So they are very similar. I think the big difference is Tiger started winning younger. So if you look at their majors by the age of 29, 30, Tigers six ahead of him. But I think a lot of those came because Scotty didn't really start playing until he was twenty. I think he went pro at like twenty-three, twenty-four, but didn't really like hit his good years until twenty-six, twenty-seven, I think. Jason: Yeah, he 'cause he went through college. Tiger went p couple of years of college and then went into her like he didn't finish Alex: Well and Scotty Scotty De Corn Fairy. Like he wasn't and then when he got on tour, he wasn't like a big name. It it took him a year or two to start winning. but their win percentage, Tigers overall win percentage is twenty percent, Scotty's hovering around thirteen percent, but in his last three seasons, he's upwards of twenty percent. So if you take out the years prior to him starting to win. He's upwards Jason: Mm. Alex: of twenty percent on his win percentage. Jason: But if he cares to see how long he can sustain it, 'cause Tiger obviously sustained it for over a decade. And Scotty seemed vulnerable this more this year than he has in the last couple of years. Alex: Yeah, we we say that, but go look at his stats. He was in the top ten consistently, top five consistently. When Scotty is putting well, he's a menace to society. Like he's I it'll be I'm with you, it'll be interesting. But Scotty's sitting at 150 weeks at number one right now. That's the biggest difference between two of Cause I think Tiger is at like six hundred ish. Total. Jason: Sot Tiger was like six eighty three weeks at number one. Alex: Yeah. So Jason: Like I don't know I don't think anybody's ever gonna touch that. I don't think Scotty can sustain that. The pressure is too much. Alex: No, I don't think he can. I don't think he can, but I I would like to know the you know, the next person behind in total weeks at number one. I I think I'm not saying Scotty's better than Tiger. All I'm saying is I think I think we could be watching the next best golfer since Tiger and could be for Jason: Mm-hmm. I agree. Alex: the next twenty, thirty years. Like he he could Jason: That's that's Alex: easily be the next guy. Jason: Let's level the playing field like we've talked about. Give Scotty the ball tiger used, 'cause the design was different, and then put Scotty back in a blade putter. Let's see what happens. Alex: God. No. Speaking of balls, I know we said we weren't gonna talk about it and we we've we can we've already talked for an hour now. You talked about the my golf spice, I was looking it up a little bit. and just from the quick read that I've done while we've been on this, nothing jumps out to me. It seems like it's everyone kind of just Jason: It's still pretty much the same. Alex: Yeah, everyone kinda just kept the same. That new that new cover, the Ionomer cover, Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: still it does well until it gets wet is like the big takeaway. that I read here. that's when the spin starts to really fall off. so it it's interesting. the softballs, I it's obvious softballs aren't flying as far as hardballs. Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: Money follows the spin. So the premium balls are the ones that are spinning. It just Nothing jumps out to me on this report, which is a little shocking. Normally you got a little bit of something in there. Jason: Yeah, no. No one changed it up. Alex: No. So I'll continue to play my Pro V One X. Jason: Yeah, but I did notice like the Iometer, Iometer, Surlin, it's like it's all the brands next tier down ball. Alex: Yeah. Yeah, exactly. It's like it it's they're trying to make a premium ball at a better budget 'cause it they are getting expensive. I mean, Jason: Yeah. Alex: it was like forty five bucks, whatever. it was just shy of four dollars a ball six years ago, and now I think it's almost sixty for Jason: Yeah, I think so. Alex: a premium like Profi one X, I think it's like fifty six, something like that. Like it's It's insane. Like, if I weren't half as good as I am, I would not be playing a premium ball. Because I I'll I usually use one sleeve around, which is like, okay, that's $15 that I'm putting of balls towards a round. But Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: if I'm if I play a course that I know I'm gonna lose more than that, like I hate it. Jason: Yeah. Actually s Alex: It's like you just see the dollars go. Jason: it's funny though, like I've played like the Scramble with you, and then I've played like two other scrambles just at Ocala with Dawn, but I didn't I typically don't actually don't lose a lot of golf balls as much as I used to. So I don't mind playing the high the higher premium ones. but they do they do play different. Like there's definitely a performance out of it. And looking at this, it's just noticing the list that a lot of my team, of course Parents are buying the golf balls, they're not gonna buy the premiums except for maybe a few. They use like the true feel, the tour soft, the speed soft, like they use those and then they sit there and go, Why is my ball not spinning? Why is it gliding across the green and all of that stuff? And it makes sense. Like you if you want spin, you need to have a golf ball to help. One, you also have to strike it better. And too, like you said, if there's any moisture on these covers, it's a little bit slicker, so it slides more. I mean, there's obviously multiple factors than just the golf ball, but even the ones that use even cheaper balls, they're like, it doesn't hold. Well, it depends on the level that you're at. I mean, you could still play Alex: Yeah. Jason: your ball, but just understand that you gotta play it fifteen yards shorter, knowing it's gonna run versus check up. Alex: Recalibrate. Yeah. Jason: Yeah. Alex: Yeah, well. Very interesting. Nothing nothing really new came out of that one, so Jason: No. Alex: all right, boys. Well, have a good Labor Day. as always, everyone, every Wednesday morning, Apple, Amazon, YouTube, Spotify. enjoy the rest of your weekend. Get some house cleaning done. Maybe go play some Jason: Yard work. Alex: golf, do some yard work. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: we'll talk next week, yes. Marcus: That's right. See ya. Alex: So yeah.
