- 0:00My name is Chase. I've seen in the band Gee Creeper or death metal
- 0:06band from Arizona in the US, and we are coming over to Australia.
- 0:13Returning to Australia. Rather, we came over for the first time last year
- 0:17and played a couple of shows, and this year we're coming back playing I
- 0:22think about ten shows and we will be with Cruelty from Japan and World of
- 0:27Joy, who is from Brisbane. I believe that's correct, right, Thanks
- 0:32for joining us today, Thank you all right, pleasure as you say,
- 0:35bro. Gate Creeper returned to Australia this April for a run of shows,
- 0:39starting in the Gold Coast on April fourth and going through Brisbane, Newcastle,
- 0:43Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra, Melbourne, Franks and Adelaide and finishing in Perth
- 0:47on April fourteenth. But my arithmetic is not that good, bro, But
- 0:50I count ten shows in eleven days there like that sounds like a lot of
- 0:53work. Yeah, yeah, it's you know, packing it all in.
- 1:00We're going through a bit of a heatwave oaver here at the Momentbro, But
- 1:03I guess that's not really going to affect you that much. Coming from Arizona.
- 1:07Nope, not at all. I think we were there and fair I
- 1:10think we were there in March last year. And yeah we when we played
- 1:15in Brisbane, I remember being very hot everywhere at the moment. Yeah,
- 1:21but we're we were used to that, so it'll be cool down by the
- 1:26time we get over there, right, hopefully, mate, hopefully. Yeah,
- 1:30so or chokes the Cybra Light. Ten shows in eleven days is a
- 1:34pretty pretty big effort. So what sorts of things do you do to mentally
- 1:38physically prepare for shows? All that so far from home? I mean we
- 1:47have, we've been touring now for for several years. I think everybody develops
- 1:52their own personal kind of plan or you know, their own person at way
- 2:00of dealing with being on the road for for weeks at a time. For
- 2:06me personally, it's it's an important part is getting your own You're getting your
- 2:10alone time when you can, when you can, you know, uh sneaking
- 2:15off and getting food by yourself, or you know, even something as simple
- 2:19as having headphones in and kind of zoning out. And because for me,
- 2:23like being around people all the time, it is just drives me crazy.
- 2:28Not even the you know, the traveling part whether you're in a in a
- 2:30in a van, in a bus, in a on a plane or whatever
- 2:35it is. The travel doesn't really bother me, but it's just being around
- 2:38people all the time that is a is the most difficult part for me.
- 2:42So you just got to find your own, your own way to uh escape
- 2:46all that, because you know, on tour, you're you know, you're
- 2:52out there. You're on the road or whatever it may be for a couple
- 2:57of weeks at a time sometimes, but you're only on stage for an hour,
- 3:01you know, so the other twenty three hours you're you got to do
- 3:05something else. So there's a lot of hurry up and wait, boredom,
- 3:09you know, whatever it may be. So those are the kind of the
- 3:14things that people don't really think about, but those are the things that you
- 3:15really have to learn how to handle when you're when you're touring. Was said,
- 3:21like it it's just over twelve months since you hear last, So what's
- 3:24changed with the band in that time? Like how the show is going to
- 3:27be different? Well, we have a new record. We even since the
- 3:32last time, you know, we we we just finished our record last year
- 3:38after we had gone to Australia, so pretty big change. I mean,
- 3:40we're coming over on it before the new record comes out, but there'll be
- 3:45new music out. We'll be playing some new songs in our sets that we're
- 3:47playing there in Australia. Now a lot of people will sort of ask bands
- 3:52what we can expect from them when they come out to him. But on
- 3:53the flip slide, like what do you guys expect from you fans at crowds?
- 3:57Like sort of anything specially you expect from them? Not really. I
- 4:00mean I feel like we're a pretty uh just every normal Joe, you know,
- 4:05every day, everyday guys, just normal guy type band. Our fans
- 4:10are kind of just normal type people. You know, there's not like a
- 4:14you know, we have some pretty dedicated fans, but there's not you know,
- 4:18there's no gimmicks really involved of you know, there's not like a we
- 4:24don't have a name that we call our fans or anything like that. And
- 4:27I think that people just come to our shows and have a good time and
- 4:30bang their heads and you know, they want to push each other around or
- 4:33whatever they want to do. But however they want to get into it,
- 4:38that's cool with us. And I think that we we put on a pretty
- 4:43high energy show on stage and people respond to that with their own type of
- 4:48energy as you make sure at the top. Mate, you've got Teikyo's Cruelty
- 4:51in Brisbane's World of Joy and supports for the whole tool. So how much
- 4:56do you know about those bands and why have you got them throwing video?
- 5:00We uh, we've been aware of Cruelty, I don't we haven't met them
- 5:03yet, but they have toured with some of our friends bands and you know,
- 5:08we here heard a lot of good things, so we are excited to
- 5:13have them and uh, World of Joy. I believe that came off of
- 5:16recommendation for the from the the local Australian promoters or booking agents or whatever,
- 5:25and they kind of, uh, you know, made that happen and that's
- 5:28who they suggested that would be a good fit with our our two bands Great
- 5:31Creep recently. Also I saw with nicolear Blas Ricos Mine. So what sorts
- 5:35of things is that I been up for you as a band. It's just
- 5:40you know, it's a it's a new label with a huge reach and you
- 5:44know they're they're based in Europe and they have a huge reach in the US
- 5:46and in and in Europe, and that's something that we really wanted to focus
- 5:51more on for this album, is you know, touring in territories outside of
- 5:58the US, which we've done countless tours in the US, but we're still
- 6:03going to some places for the first time, like before we come to Australia,
- 6:06we're going to Japan and other you know, some other Asian countries for
- 6:12the first time. So I think that with Nuclear Blast it's going to help
- 6:15us kind of expand globally and have our music more available to people all over
- 6:20the world. And you mentioned earlier you've got a new album come down this
- 6:26year, which will be a first through Nicolae Blas. What can tell us
- 6:29about that? Is it what fans would expect for the band or is there
- 6:31a different side direction. We're trying some different stuff, but there it's not
- 6:38like, uh, too far from what we've already been doing. I do
- 6:43think we have kind of a new direction. But I've always said that,
- 6:47you know, our our influences have been the same since the beginning, you
- 6:50know, our core influences that have always been there, and as time goes
- 6:56on, we're not really removing any of those influences. We're just adding we're
- 7:00on top of that. So we're always adding new elements of different stuff,
- 7:04whether it's different types of h you know, guitar leads, or different songwriting
- 7:12arrangements. We're always influenced by new things, and that's just in addition to
- 7:18what we're we're already about. So I think the record is just an evolution
- 7:25and it's uh, there's some emphasis on having catchier songs and you know,
- 7:32doubling down on some of the you know, things that were memorable about our
- 7:39last records, and and also going into it, we we had the the
- 7:43vision of writing songs that we could see ourselves playing on like a big stage
- 7:50at like an outdoor festival or something like that. So along those lines,
- 7:56like you released your debut album Sonari and Depth Revation in twenty sixteen, followed
- 8:01by Deserted in twenty nineteen, So how's your music changed great over those albums
- 8:07to the one you're already working on. We've just gotten better, you know,
- 8:09like we've gotten better as musicians, gotten better as songwriters. We've toured
- 8:16a lot and learned a lot from touring with bands that we like, you
- 8:18know, learning how they do things in all you know, whether it's a
- 8:24live performance or you know, talking to them about songwriting, or me talking
- 8:28to people from obituary about you know, the vocals or you know the riffs
- 8:35or whatever it is. We're we're always we're always learning. So I think
- 8:39at this point we're just gotten better. We're getting better at writing songs together,
- 8:45we're getting better at working together. I would say that this album is
- 8:48the most collaborative effort that we've had, and uh, yeah, I just
- 8:52think that we're evolving. And like you say, for example, for myself,
- 8:56you know that our voc my vocals, I think I've gotten a lot
- 9:00better since our first record. I didn't really know what I was doing when
- 9:03it ever started, you know, and I've had years of experience in getting
- 9:07better at it. So I think that my vocals on this record are definitely
- 9:11better than they ever have been in the past. Right, all right,
- 9:16Mabel, thanks very much for your time today. Kate Creeper hits Australia from
- 9:20April fourth for ten date skyn the whole way across the country, so we're
- 9:24looking forward to catching it in a couple of months, right. I mean,
- 9:26if I see out the show, make sure to come and say hi.
- 9:30I'll come to the Brisbane one night. I'll live in Brisbane, so
- 9:31i'll pop in and we'll have a beer. All right, man, I'll
- 9:33see you there, all right, Right, take it.
