- 0:00Speaker 1: Joining me on the line right now is the Deputy
- 0:02Speaker 1: Opposition leader, Jared Maylee.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Good morning to you, Jared, Good.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Morning Katie, Good morning listeners.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Jared.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I know that that you have you have actually been
- 0:12Speaker 1: in contact with Telstra as well, haven't you.
- 0:15Speaker 3: That's great because this particular site's in my patch on
- 0:17Speaker 3: the member of Nelson and how River Park, where this
- 0:20Speaker 3: proposed tower is going to be is in my electorate.
- 0:23Speaker 3: So I've got a real concern about this and keeping
- 0:25Speaker 3: a close eye on it.
- 0:27Speaker 2: So what do you reckon needs to happen here?
- 0:28Speaker 1: Obviously the residents of the area are quite concerned about
- 0:31Speaker 1: this tower, and fair.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Enough, oh fair enough, I agree. The tower is going
- 0:37Speaker 3: to be located about a kay and a bit down
- 0:39Speaker 3: Bronswick Avenue on the left. There's a big drain where
- 0:42Speaker 3: Bilebon drains out and it's a bit of a conservation land.
- 0:44Speaker 3: But I decided that these houses which have been established
- 0:47Speaker 3: in our area for a long time. I wrote to
- 0:50Speaker 3: Telstra in early February saying, look, can you look at
- 0:54Speaker 3: a different location. There's one up on two twenty gun
- 0:57Speaker 3: Point Row which is near Setella, which is another and
- 1:00Speaker 3: I did a bit of a search on Google and
- 1:02Speaker 3: it's about seven hundred and fifty seven hundred eighty meters
- 1:05Speaker 3: as the crow flies from the location. And in that area,
- 1:08Speaker 3: there's no houses around it. It's sitting there on top
- 1:11Speaker 3: of a bit of a hill, and I can't see
- 1:12Speaker 3: why that wouldn't be a better location.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Does it come down.
- 1:15Speaker 1: To, you know, what is council land or are we
- 1:18Speaker 1: are these all council blocks?
- 1:21Speaker 3: No? Well, the land on Hotela Road, on Gunpoint Road
- 1:25Speaker 3: is owned by Empty Land Corps, which is really another
- 1:28Speaker 3: Gunman organization. So my guess is is it just as
- 1:31Speaker 3: Intel shuld have done with Vitual Council to organize and
- 1:34Speaker 3: discuss a leaf for that particular block of land, because
- 1:36Speaker 3: when we're not talking about a very big block of land,
- 1:39Speaker 3: you know, the area they're using is probably twenty by
- 1:41Speaker 3: twenty meters square, maybe a bit more, maybe fifty. It's
- 1:44Speaker 3: not a big area, and it's just the least a
- 1:46Speaker 3: big land And they put a tower up and forty
- 1:48Speaker 3: odd meters in the air. And because ultimately people around
- 1:51Speaker 3: Howard River Park and Gunpoint have got pour mobile offer.
- 1:54Speaker 3: So yeah, everyone has spoken to me says that they're
- 1:56Speaker 3: happy for the service to be upgraded and so they
- 1:58Speaker 3: shoot because they paid this so much money. Some that
- 2:00Speaker 3: lives in the city or some other urban area in
- 2:03Speaker 3: relation to their mobile service, but the service out there
- 2:05Speaker 3: is particularly poor, so people certainly support the idea of
- 2:10Speaker 3: upgrading the service. Just the tower seems to be in
- 2:12Speaker 3: the wrong location.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Look, I'm surprised by the number of messages I'm getting
- 2:17Speaker 1: about this. I didn't realize how many people I know
- 2:19Speaker 1: actually live in this area and they are saying that
- 2:22Speaker 1: they're really quite concerned about it, like it's it's basically
- 2:25Speaker 1: in the backyard, and they don't think it's the best location.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Well, I agree, and I could understand if there were
- 2:34Speaker 3: no other locations and they kills you have done the homework.
- 2:37Speaker 3: But to me, and I'm not a radio technician expert,
- 2:40Speaker 3: but seven hundred meters moving to a different spot where
- 2:42Speaker 3: there's no houses around it. So if they do develop
- 2:45Speaker 3: that land into the future, if you choose to buy there,
- 2:48Speaker 3: and there's already how there, it's already there. It's not
- 2:50Speaker 3: like they're doing now where people who are in the
- 2:52Speaker 3: rural area for lifestyle and next minute there's a forty
- 2:55Speaker 3: meter tower punk twenty meters from their backyard.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I mean do you reckon.
- 2:58Speaker 1: The Council's just kind of gone though, yeah you can
- 3:01Speaker 1: do it here. It's our land, that's fine, and not
- 3:04Speaker 1: thought about how the feedback would be from locals.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Well, I'm not sure what process the council have done,
- 3:11Speaker 3: but it's certainly their land, and I know that Tilt
- 3:13Speaker 3: have gone to them and approach them about it. And
- 3:15Speaker 3: I don't know what research or what public confrontation the
- 3:18Speaker 3: council has done, but the Telster have put their little
- 3:22Speaker 3: purple sign up, and I know that they dropped some
- 3:25Speaker 3: paperwork around the houses around that area, and I know
- 3:28Speaker 3: in my news which I delivered to everyone area, I
- 3:30Speaker 3: put a little story in My Life on just before
- 3:32Speaker 3: Christians about the three proposed out because this tow is
- 3:34Speaker 3: only one of three that's going to go to the
- 3:36Speaker 3: rural area. There's one, and how it's bringing there's one
- 3:38Speaker 3: in Herbert as well, because Telsa's panned to increase mobile
- 3:40Speaker 3: coverage right across the rural area. Yeah, it's one at.
- 3:43Speaker 1: US well, and I'm certainly hearing as well from lots
- 3:46Speaker 1: of different people that they do want their coverage to
- 3:49Speaker 1: be better. So I think that you know, fundamentally, obviously
- 3:52Speaker 1: people are very happy for there to be better coverage
- 3:55Speaker 1: and happy for Telstra to do the work, but they
- 3:58Speaker 1: are obviously quite cocerned about having what they feel would
- 4:02Speaker 1: be a massive tower in their backyard or right there,
- 4:06Speaker 1: you know, in their backyards.
- 4:08Speaker 3: And I've asked Telfree in my correspondent to them saying,
- 4:10Speaker 3: if they do get approval from the development Consentitory, to
- 4:13Speaker 3: be a good corporate citizen and look at moving the
- 4:16Speaker 3: tower to a location where the public art right next
- 4:19Speaker 3: door to it, and if you do choose to buy
- 4:21Speaker 3: around that tower into the future. We're talking at the
- 4:23Speaker 3: moment now it's the old pine forest. It could be
- 4:25Speaker 3: twenty years before it gets developed. But by that stage
- 4:27Speaker 3: the tower will be there, and people choose to move
- 4:30Speaker 3: t extra tower, it's their choice. But right now, the
- 4:32Speaker 3: people at Howder River Park, especially around the area where
- 4:35Speaker 3: the proposed tower is, have got no choice there. They've
- 4:37Speaker 3: had this block that many have had it for many,
- 4:39Speaker 3: many years, and now they're going to plunk a tower
- 4:41Speaker 3: right in right in the middle of urban area or
- 4:44Speaker 3: the rural area you call it out here.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Well, Dereb, we are going to have to get ready
- 4:47Speaker 2: to wrap up.
- 4:47Speaker 1: One thing I do want to ask you about though
- 4:50Speaker 1: I know that we spoke about this this morning during
- 4:52Speaker 1: the week, that was the fact that it has been
- 4:55Speaker 1: confirmed that the IKAK is looking into this situation at
- 4:59Speaker 1: TiO State. You have issued a pressure release towards yesterday
- 5:03Speaker 1: afternoon saying that you believe the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning
- 5:08Speaker 1: and Logistics must immediately stand down while that IKAK investigation
- 5:13Speaker 1: continues of the non compliance at TiO Stadium. Why do
- 5:17Speaker 1: you think she needs to stand down?
- 5:19Speaker 3: Well, this inquire needs to look at the whole picture
- 5:22Speaker 3: of what this whole circumstances around it. And I remember
- 5:24Speaker 3: back in August twenty twenty that the government put out
- 5:27Speaker 3: a pressingly saying the look at the certification of that
- 5:30Speaker 3: building back then, and that's what a year and a
- 5:32Speaker 3: half ago. And their answer to the problem is just
- 5:35Speaker 3: to make a declaration to make it exempt from a
- 5:38Speaker 3: certificate occupancy. The average private person out there who builds
- 5:42Speaker 3: a house or builds another structure don't have the opportunity
- 5:45Speaker 3: to be able to just exempt that from the laws
- 5:48Speaker 3: that the government put in place. So efectively, the government
- 5:51Speaker 3: can't even comply with their own laws. And even is
- 5:53Speaker 3: the boss, she's the leader and you look at Gladdy
- 5:56Speaker 3: in New South Wales. As soon as there's an IK investigation,
- 5:58Speaker 3: she resigned. Another example is that Rio Tinto when the
- 6:03Speaker 3: those minds, these cases blown up by those minds, those directors,
- 6:08Speaker 3: they didn't push the debtonation button for they've all resigned
- 6:10Speaker 3: as well. So this is a clear lack of leadership Bayeva,
- 6:13Speaker 3: and she needs to take the sword.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I guess the difference is right now, so many of
- 6:18Speaker 1: us are kind of wondering exactly what she's being investigated for.
- 6:23Speaker 2: There's that lack of understanding right now.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Well, this is a classic example of no leadership and
- 6:30Speaker 3: no government come in say we're going to be open
- 6:32Speaker 3: and transparent. Well, here's an opportunity for last year and
- 6:34Speaker 3: a half to be open and transparent and give the
- 6:37Speaker 3: public the information because that venue gets used by thousands
- 6:40Speaker 3: and thousands of people on the weekends for sporting things.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Is it safe? What's the problem? Why has it taken
- 6:45Speaker 3: over a year and a half to fix and their
- 6:47Speaker 3: fixes just to issue a decoration. Why don't fix the problem?
- 6:51Speaker 1: Well, Jared Maylee, we better leave it there. We are
- 6:53Speaker 1: fast running out of time. We appreciate your time this morning.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Sorry, thank you, Katie, thank you too.
