Latest / Sessions Canceled / The Internet's Bad Takes: Ep. 45
Transcript
- 0:10Everybody. So everybody came for session
- 0:12today but then the GM said, they were only using PHP stuff.
- 0:16So sessions canceled It's us, the boys, the sessions canceled
- 0:21podcast three of us. I want to argue already goddamn.
- 0:26Yep. Yes you did that on purpose.
- 0:29I did do that a correct but now I see it's fine.
- 0:34Everything's fine. Fine Sam is once again lost to
- 0:38the warp but we will Goof or him.
- 0:43So it's me here. Isaiah with the boys.
- 0:46Josh. I guess I am here and already
- 0:50salty. I guess it's better than you
- 0:51bringing up. Fabricating some fashion though.
- 0:54I I was going to but I didn't want to start this off with you
- 0:57genuinely annoyed. Yeah, we got Josh, we got Matt.
- 1:02Hello. I will be taking the role as
- 1:04Grog zag. The bra guard, roles for Sam.
- 1:09Honor him in to walk. None of the warp is different.
- 1:14Warp is different not fuck. At this.
- 1:18Well I mean technically the Orcs do have a small part of the warp
- 1:22for themselves. They do have two Gods.
- 1:24Yeah. No no no.
- 1:26But when Wog is war, yeah. It's not warp different.
- 1:30Now we're going. We're going to war with the warp
- 1:32Josh. Come on.
- 1:33Oh well. That'll vary or key.
- 1:36He's part of Tusk has wha going to get dinner table.
- 1:40Going to war when I like that. That's it.
- 1:44Yeah, no, no. That's that's good.
- 1:45Nor key. Yeah, I'm gonna need a list of
- 1:47like Like big the biggest baddest or Keys like it will
- 1:50send them to you, don't worry but really all right boys so I
- 1:54got to thinking but think about this for a while now.
- 1:57I had a lot of fun during our hot / shit take episode but I
- 2:02wanted to expand. I wanted to expand dong if you
- 2:05will. All right, I don't know if we're
- 2:08gonna phrase it that way. No, it's too late.
- 2:10We're expanding Dom doing the bike.
- 2:12The me Moi. No one can see it.
- 2:15I don't know why but I thought Right, we've already done.
- 2:18Our ship takes /, hot takes and I didn't, I didn't want to like
- 2:21either potentially either read retread old ground or like start
- 2:24scraping the bottom of the barrel.
- 2:25So II proves the interwebs to find the interwebs hot takes
- 2:32potentially shit takes mmm much like neck beard area searching
- 2:36for Chan. Isaiah was digging through
- 2:37reddits fine too. So I Don't Force It Reddit,
- 2:42Twitter, Facebook, RPG, exchange a few other places.
- 2:50All right, so like in your professional, highly researched,
- 2:54definitely not five minutes of reading opinion as an expert in
- 2:58this, which website had the worst takes Twitter by far by
- 3:02far. Not even a question, okay?
- 3:04Not even a question. Good to know, good to know, cake
- 3:06that he Lon. Now II did this with some
- 3:08stipulations, these takes here are not specifically hot takes,
- 3:14I die. Very specifically, did not look
- 3:16for like Easy Bates, obviously like million times treaded.
- 3:22Ground of like, you know, hot take.
- 3:25You should talk to your players. Yeah, no shit Sherlock or
- 3:29anything, particularly to politically inclined because I
- 3:33just don't feel like that. This is the place for that.
- 3:36What I went for specifically were some weird controversial
- 3:40potentially takes that are not automatically shit.
- 3:43I feel like you guys might agree with a few of them.
- 3:45Josh you specifically, I don't like getting called out.
- 3:49This isn't a call-out. I actually do this quite a few
- 3:51of these myself at the morally gray, right?
- 3:56Yeah, option feels like a call out, but all right, we'll see,
- 3:58you'll see, don't worry. So yeah.
- 4:00That was that sort of my mindset.
- 4:01I wanted us to have some, some rousing discussion about the
- 4:05internet's potentially spiciest takes.
- 4:09He said, the first one not particularly that spicy, but I
- 4:11wanted to bring it up as a good Icebreaker and it actually
- 4:14pertains to what the intro was. One more?
- 4:18I just D&D Beyond sweet and oh, oh oh.
- 4:22Do they between they do between they between ogl things?
- 4:26Oh baby, oh, baby. Thanks to the real Universe.
- 4:31Dear readers. By the way, we are not.
- 4:33Not going to be discussing readers listeners were actually
- 4:36discussing the ogl on. There's nothing to say
- 4:39everyone's already set and it was already said it.
- 4:41And honestly at this point we could be chasing drama and we're
- 4:43not worried about that. So we're just not going to talk
- 4:45about it. If you got a problem with it,
- 4:48you can kiss the firmest part of is the firmest, nice interested.
- 4:55So hot take number one, there is no dungeon master shortage
- 5:01specifically. There's no shortage of people
- 5:03willing to run games, rather. Simply there are too many
- 5:07players unwilling to compromise with GM restrictions and
- 5:10personal rulings. Thoughts that feels like a six
- 5:17of one half a dozen of the other kind of statement pretty
- 5:21milquetoast. Like, yeah, I know, I know
- 5:23potential, like I said, like first one good Icebreaker,
- 5:26basically you're saying the, the problem isn't that, we have no
- 5:31DM's. The problem is no one wants to
- 5:33DM. I'm like, well, that's the same
- 5:35safe statement in a slightly different argument.
- 5:40I think is more specifically. It's not that there aren't
- 5:42enough GM's. It's there's too many players
- 5:45who are a little spoiled Yeah, which is no the end of the day
- 5:49like you can words, you can move your you can you know, you can
- 5:52move some numbers around but you get the same answer to the
- 5:56equation there. So I don't know like whatever
- 5:58bro. That's just that, that screams
- 6:00of someone trying to sound like they're having a big brain
- 6:04thought by just rewording a commonly accepted thought.
- 6:09Yeah, I mean, I don't I don't particularly disagree with what
- 6:11you just said so sure. Yeah, I mean they're not wrong.
- 6:19I mean yeah. Damning like I know as such as
- 6:21fun as it can be. It is you know there's a lot of
- 6:25like I'm going to do finger quotes work yeah go ahead and
- 6:29vows with it that like you know some people just don't want to
- 6:33get into in order to run games. It's not as bad and again like
- 6:36you know if anything like the Matt Koval videos have shown us,
- 6:40it isn't as bad it's not other things related to dungeon
- 6:45mastering that get that we get involved with that.
- 6:47End up. Bogging the game down.
- 6:49Locking us down as the EM sometimes.
- 6:51Yeah. But usually those are by choice.
- 6:54Sure. Yeah, that's what I'm yeah.
- 6:55Alright like Yeah. Now wait, what was that last
- 7:01part? They said, specifically players
- 7:04unwilling to compromise personal rulings.
- 7:07Yeah, they're unwilling to compromise with GM restrictions
- 7:09and personal rulings. See that was weird because it's
- 7:12like if you're playing a game and like I hypothetically let's
- 7:15say future Matt here, I'm betting.
- 7:17No multi classing, all my players Revolt.
- 7:20Nevermind fuck you. Matt.
- 7:21I'm not playing your campaign anymore.
- 7:23I'm gonna make my own game. What?
- 7:24Multi classing and hookers probably multi-class and
- 7:26hookers. But yeah, most players they end
- 7:31up dealing with it because like again there's not enough people
- 7:35wanting to run the game, it's way easier to be a player.
- 7:39So most people kind of I feel like I feel like that's not
- 7:42really true. I don't know.
- 7:43I feel most players. Isaiah do me a favor.
- 7:47Yep. Put that word for word in the
- 7:49chat for me. Well so here's the thing.
- 7:52I paraphrased it slightly times its hole pair its paragraph.
- 7:57I want the whole thing. Sure up with holding the whole
- 8:00thing because now I'm thinking that this person, can you type?
- 8:04Can you copy and paste it? Yeah hold on, I'll read along
- 8:08with it. Well I'm worried it out.
- 8:10I'll read it out because okay, because I'm having a feeling now
- 8:14it's oh, this is the last bit up right there.
- 8:18Refrain, I've heard more than once.
- 8:20There aren't enough DMS to go around.
- 8:22Everyone wants to play but no one wants to run.
- 8:24Everyone wants to play really question.
- 8:26Mark on both of those. Suppose I tell you I'm going to
- 8:29start running a game of D&D. I'm looking for players.
- 8:32Do you want to join up now suppose I tell you that I'm not
- 8:35allowing Homebrew and I'm running the game raw.
- 8:37Are you still interested? Now imagine that I'm telling you
- 8:41that it's a phb, only game, are you still up for it?
- 8:45Still up for it, or imagine that it's not 2nd at all, but a nice
- 8:49high Fantasy game of savage worlds and d and d, is just the
- 8:51term. People throw around like Xerox
- 8:53Xerox or Kleenex. Yeah.
- 8:57So much happens for sure. The problem isn't that?
- 9:00There's a shortage of DMS GM's, or whatever.
- 9:03The problem is, that, there's a shortage of people who will run
- 9:06games tear exacting. Specification problem is, there
- 9:09is a port. What the problem is that there's
- 9:12a shortage of people who will run games to your exacting
- 9:15specifications People expect D&D to be like Monopoly or risk.
- 9:20Everyone using the same rules out of the box.
- 9:22So if my, so if my last two DM's, let me make character off
- 9:25some subs, anitha ours. With this DM.
- 9:27Won't that clearly means there's a DM shortage, there is no DM
- 9:31shortage there. Just an excess of spoiled
- 9:33players who refused to play it, that would get who refuse to
- 9:35play in games that will give them everything they desire.
- 9:39All right? So, This person.
- 9:45Is. Cancelling out their own
- 9:49argument. You're not in a weird way
- 9:52because Or also you can't as a player, I expect every GM,
- 9:59right? Have the same.
- 10:00That that's something I get that.
- 10:02Most players should understand by proud of every player.
- 10:06So yeah, you should understand all the bad.
- 10:07Like 1 DM is going to run the game their own way and other
- 10:09one's going to be. Yeah, there we know how the
- 10:11whole no one is Matthew, Mercer. Mercer stop it.
- 10:14Like it's. So he runs his game.
- 10:17His way. Your DM is running there.
- 10:19There's that way. What they're saying here is.
- 10:24Players feel like they can't find a DM because they're making
- 10:27too many personal rules and not willing to join Ames.
- 10:35But no. Okay actually okay.
- 10:39Okay. Like hypothetically.
- 10:41Let's say Josh you want to run a D&D game and you specifically
- 10:45say guys you know I'll allow whatever books.
- 10:48However there's only humans, I'm not running a game, I would
- 10:52still playing that game because it's you like, you know what I
- 10:56mean? Yes, so yeah, okay, okay, see
- 11:01now that I've read the whole statement, I'm okay, I'm good.
- 11:04Redact I was about to roast the shit out of this person.
- 11:07Go to redact slightly, I do still think there is a DM
- 11:12shortage by the mere fact of the ratio is out of whack.
- 11:15But I see what they're getting it.
- 11:19Don't forget. So your initial your now that
- 11:23you've got a better look on it. Not a shit.
- 11:24Take No. I mean it is still sort of a
- 11:28rephrasing of the same problem, right?
- 11:31Like this isn't like a new thought it is.
- 11:34You are still saying there's a DM shortage you're just saying
- 11:37it in a slightly fancier fashion.
- 11:42Yeah no it's It makes more now that I've read the because when
- 11:46you said it initially just that one paragraph.
- 11:50I was feeling a little like unsure of their phrasing but now
- 11:54that I see their whole statement I get all right.
- 11:57Yeah. I get what I get, what do you
- 12:00got a feeling? It might happen.
- 12:01That's why I kept the actual paragraph handy.
- 12:03Yeah, yeah. I get what you're gettin at
- 12:05here. I can't comprende.
- 12:08Yeah, I don't know. Hmm.
- 12:13What was your initial thought when you like, saw this?
- 12:17Take Isaac, I actually agree with it.
- 12:19To be honest. Definitely elements of Truth,
- 12:22for sure. Yeah, it is a sort of the, like,
- 12:25you know, I've literally done this to people, you know, when I
- 12:29first started, I don't really do this shit anymore but like my
- 12:32first year. So in people being like we're
- 12:33doing it this way, I was like, but that's not how this other
- 12:36person does it. And, you know, not just right
- 12:38answer but like people you look up online.
- 12:40Yeah. So I've definitely Done that
- 12:43before. And you know you sort of learn I
- 12:45probably did that up until I started running be honest.
- 12:49You know I have my own way of running things that people don't
- 12:51necessarily agree with you just sort of accept it, you know.
- 12:55Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:57I mean also. The sort of expand turd like
- 13:02swallows it to kind of expand upon their point.
- 13:08A lot of people will hear restrictive rules like, we can
- 13:14only use the PHP, right? They'll hear seats.
- 13:17They'll hear stuff like that? Yeah, they'll hear shit like
- 13:21that and then immediately jump out the nearest window and say,
- 13:26fuck it. When you In actuality, if you
- 13:30hear the reason why, the GM is saying that you might actually
- 13:33agree and then be back on board, you know, like your GM might
- 13:39say, we're only using PHP and then the player goes.
- 13:44Oh no. And then the GM says, because
- 13:46I'm doing a really, really methodical Homebrew world and I
- 13:51have a bunch of Homebrew, races that are adjustments or new
- 13:55entirely new races, that would cover stuff.
- 13:58That would be Zennith ours and now the players like oh, well
- 14:01now I'm interested again, you know?
- 14:02I mean, I'm not saying you can't play an error.
- 14:04Coker, I'm saying you have to play my version of the Eric okra
- 14:09Example, that's a fuck a little work to do, but you know what I
- 14:12mean, right? So like a I feel like a lot of
- 14:17people jump straight to the, oh no.
- 14:18And but without listening to the reasoning, and that's where a
- 14:22lot of the problem is to Because you should listen to the
- 14:25reasoning. Because usually when a DM says
- 14:29something like that they do have a reason you know.
- 14:33Yeah, there's no one. Yeah, they're not just throwing
- 14:36it out there. There's a purpose.
- 14:38Yeah, I do. I do wait, too far from mic.
- 14:42I do agree that sometimes it is the Nick Fury, you know,
- 14:45considering that it's a stupid decision.
- 14:47There is those vents that's not impossible, but I'm not saying
- 14:50it's impossible, right? I'm just saying, like, you
- 14:52should listen to the Like what their reasoning is first before
- 14:57you decide, if they say, it's something like, this is actually
- 15:01a ruling. I keep hearing about from dams,
- 15:03where they been like subclasses. And it's like, I just don't get
- 15:06the, I just don't get what the subclass does.
- 15:08I just don't get what flavor of its own story.
- 15:10So I don't, I don't I ban it and I'm like, well, that you could
- 15:14again like, and this is the thing I joked with you.
- 15:16The other day Josh, it's like, you know this is imaginary,
- 15:18right? You know, this is pretend so you
- 15:21cannot pretend it fits in your fucking world and Don't be a
- 15:25dickhead like and I honestly I saw one person with a take that
- 15:29said, there was no reason to ban anything that's like official.
- 15:36I don't necessarily agree with that.
- 15:39Take yeah, what I do understand where it's coming from.
- 15:41I want to go that far. Yeah, I wasn't crying.
- 15:43I want to go too far in either direction.
- 15:46Young. So I get the reason because it's
- 15:47like, well, it's official. So it must have been like play
- 15:49tested and the guys that made the game know what they're
- 15:51doing. But and, you know, again, not to
- 15:54fucking add more shit to the pile of Wizards of the Coast at
- 15:56the moment. But we've been seeing in the
- 15:58last like, four, five years of them, not play, testing shit,
- 16:03not check, double checking things.
- 16:04And Shit getting out there. And now every fucking mid Maxi
- 16:07munchkin, boom, look like they, there are things that slip
- 16:12through the cracks and you go to the other third party and the
- 16:16same thing happens the way how itself and subclasses and magic
- 16:19items are great. And then there are some that
- 16:21slipped through the cracks. You're like, why the fuck was in
- 16:24this play tested? It happens both ways.
- 16:25That happens, you know, everyone does it.
- 16:27I mean I rarely come at it from the look if I'm saying you can't
- 16:32play X thing. For me, it's very rarely from a
- 16:35mechanical standpoint. It's almost always from some
- 16:37sort of fictional or story or tone thing.
- 16:41Now, almost always at own thing, And it happens like that I had
- 16:50another thought but I forgot. Anyway, so far enough.
- 16:53It seems like the the consensus for that one.
- 16:56Not a shit. Take.
- 16:59Yeah. It's thanks 70. 70 60 40 NOS.
- 17:03I not I go with the gala. Yeah.
- 17:05So they go together they just wanted it over there.
- 17:08They word it specifically to like make people annoyed.
- 17:13Oh yeah, people like when they read it like Like it's
- 17:15definitely written to be slightly incendiary for sure.
- 17:18Yeah, there yeah, something happened in this person's game
- 17:21and they're salty about it. That is honestly.
- 17:25So, I saw some people being like, there's no point in doing
- 17:27shit takes because you can never like it's impossible to boil
- 17:30down. I really nuanced thought into a
- 17:33few words and it's like, yes. However, there is something to
- 17:39say about like, You can have pretty nuanced.
- 17:43Simple thoughts. You know what I mean?
- 17:46Yeah. Like it's not impossible.
- 17:47You don't need an essay to accurately depict a thought you
- 17:51have. If you do it's probably a really
- 17:54Niche thought which is not bad. But like you do have to kind of
- 17:57accept it for what it is. I mean, a basic sentence can
- 18:02have a lot to it's not exactly. Doesn't have to be long and
- 18:05girthy just to make a point necessarily like there's a lot
- 18:08of the stuff this person said and that statement they could
- 18:11have That down way shorter if they wanted Drew.
- 18:17Grace. Voice please.
- 18:22Good Auburn. Good Auburn.
- 18:25Now that we have that one out of the way, I'm for the second one.
- 18:32Flashbacks are the worst thing to happen to heists.
- 18:38You tell me there's more to that one right now.
- 18:40I swear to God, no, there's nothing.
- 18:44I feel bad because this is so specifically a blades in the
- 18:48dark. I have no frame of reference,
- 19:01don't think about it from the game term.
- 19:02Just think about it in like a heist movie.
- 19:04Yeah. And then just think about that,
- 19:06you know, the in the Heist movie where they flashback to when
- 19:08they set up the Trap. Well again, you're coming from
- 19:11the guy that's played Payday 2 since it's come out and, and
- 19:13it's literally just like, all right guys pre-plan beforehand.
- 19:16All right, let's go in and then little but like all the fall,
- 19:19the flashback mechanic is I assume this person is talking
- 19:22about blades in the dark. All the flashback mechanic is is
- 19:25it's the scene in The Heist movie where, you know, one of
- 19:29the one of the robbers walks up to the door and the door opens
- 19:33in front of them, even though it's supposed to have been
- 19:35locked and then you flashbacks The guy being like, ahh, I
- 19:38planted the lock-in. Oh, the lock breaker on it one
- 19:40hour before we arrived. That's all the rage in, right?
- 19:42That's the macare. Yeah, it really is that sits
- 19:46there saying what it is. They're saying that, you know,
- 19:49you shouldn't have the flashback thing in the game, specifically
- 19:52made for the flashback mechanic. Know, now that they're properly.
- 19:56That's what they're saying. Like, hold on.
- 19:57Hold on. I need you to read that again
- 19:59for me. Verbatim, don't worry.
- 20:01I posted it. Oh, you posted track.
- 20:03Flashbacks of the worst thing. Have I
- 20:15Like I can't yo I cannot imagine that's you.
- 20:20You just sat down what this person said.
- 20:23Is this mechanic specifically designed to reinforce and
- 20:30Elevate? The genre that this game is
- 20:33supposed to be emulating is bad. It was a mistake basically.
- 20:36Yeah. Like, I can't even.
- 20:39Can you imagine? I just I want a magic.
- 20:42I'm trying to think of the steel man argument for this.
- 20:45Yeah, I don't think you can, but I do want, I want to imagine the
- 20:48word, the fantasy land where you have a high game based on heists
- 20:53that has no flashback or contingency mechanic.
- 20:57Yeah, you just do, you basically just sit there and let your
- 21:00players faff about for two hours to provide planned for
- 21:04something? That's going to go wrong, step
- 21:05one and that's that you find. Enjoyment.
- 21:07You want that to happen? Yeah, it just doesn't, that's
- 21:09your outset? Yeah.
- 21:10Well, that's because that's the other thing about the the
- 21:12flashback mechanic is the flashback mechanic is meant to
- 21:15solve a very specific problem, which is your players faffing
- 21:18about 4 to 24 hours about a plan, that's probably going to
- 21:23go awry in 10 minutes anyway. So, the whole point of the
- 21:26flashback mechanic, is you solve that problem by saying, yeah,
- 21:28get into the mission and then if you need a contingency, you just
- 21:31use the flashback. The idea that that would be
- 21:35better. Like I literally i-i've been
- 21:40sitting here this whole time trying to think of their I've
- 21:42been trying to see their side of the argument here.
- 21:44I really genuinely cannot of course the Isaac.
- 21:48It's so holy fuck nonsensical and you know maybe there's
- 21:53something to say about maybe this person had a more nuanced
- 21:55thought but like I don't, I don't see how you could.
- 21:58I was young. I would love to hear a follow-up
- 22:02post of what their argument is, like, why?
- 22:05Because I just I can't, I can't conceive of why.
- 22:10I just I literally don't like it's it's literally.
- 22:13Every literally, every single Heist movie ever, that's like
- 22:20the like that's the thing you do.
- 22:22That is a staple of the genre. Like I'm it, you know, like I'm
- 22:31trying to think of like a comparable example to show how
- 22:33dumb this is, I mean, it's like it's like having a sci-fi movie.
- 22:37be with no laser guns, like you just You can't like that's
- 22:43basically illegal. You know what I mean?
- 22:48It's such a staple. It's like you're sitting down
- 22:52and be like, yeah, guys. So we're gonna play D&D but man,
- 22:55do I hate spells so we're not going to use spells, huh?
- 23:01It doesn't like yeah, you know, I really like Samurai movies
- 23:04that don't have katanas in them, right?
- 23:08Like it's basically what this person saying I think Really
- 23:11fist-fighting to this? Yes.
- 23:13Yeah, it's the Western with no fucking no shootout.
- 23:16Yeah, no shootout. Is there with a shootout like
- 23:18what? So it's not a western is what
- 23:21you're telling me is Pawn cards. Usually got any threes it's just
- 23:25play poker. Holy shit.
- 23:29Oh yeah. So it's someone gets caught
- 23:30cheating and they look at each other and go shoot you right now
- 23:33if I could but I can't I couldn't.
- 23:35I don't have a gun. If I knew what a gun was I shoot
- 23:39you with it. All right, right.
- 23:40Right now. All right.
- 23:42I'm gonna I don't know if anyone's, I don't know if any
- 23:45takes are going to top how shit that one is.
- 23:47No, I mean that's right here is five-star class all five star
- 23:52shit. Take?
- 23:53Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 23:53If we're using Michelin stars, who three out of three baby?
- 23:56Yeah, baby. Goddamn.
- 23:58That's congratulations. You won.
- 24:01Holy shit. Yeah, you did.
- 24:03Holy shit. Yeah.
- 24:06Is a had a fun time with out. I wanted I wanted the dichotomy,
- 24:12right? I wanted the one that was like,
- 24:15This is kind of logically. I can see where this is coming
- 24:17from. Yeah, just like fucking the
- 24:21nadir just below his fucking fuck.
- 24:25Oh my God, I do love. I do love Josh.
- 24:28Me like there better be something else that fucking yo I
- 24:32thought there was more. No.
- 24:35No, this is the internet, you know, get anything else just to
- 24:39have money if there's one weirder than this Nothing.
- 24:45Yes, there is. There's one shorter.
- 24:47No, it's one of the honorable mentions and I mean, it's the
- 24:52one for Josh. How many of these are
- 24:55specifically for Josh? Well that one was just to see
- 24:59Josh called for a second but also he might I did it.
- 25:02I wanted to see him mauled because I sat there for an hour
- 25:05making this list. Maulding I shit you not.
- 25:09The sounds like a joke. I'm not I open this up on a
- 25:12separate tab And I just kept doing research and never stops
- 25:15and I would lose yourself over there.
- 25:16And look at me like what a fucking monster like.
- 25:23Oh my God, it I can forward. What a goob.
- 25:27I like that. I feel a little bad about
- 25:29calling the person who posted this a good.
- 25:31That's kind of why I kept all of them Anonymous.
- 25:33I just fucking goob, take when you run blades in the dark for
- 25:37us. One time for like a one shot,
- 25:39whatever. Just remember, we can't use
- 25:40flashbacks. It's got no fun.
- 25:42If I can't, I can't do it. No one down my God.
- 25:50I just I'm still thinking about it.
- 25:53It like this is this is gonna riff rent-free in my brain for
- 25:57so long. Just I'm so sad.
- 25:59This is he bash you and this is what similar and means this has
- 26:03this has really similar energy to Luffy's.
- 26:07Red Rock is the more iconic ability.
- 26:10Oh my fucking God. Oh my God.
- 26:13Yes, this has that energy. When went be, she's more popular
- 26:19than Dragon. Forget the the gem of a take of
- 26:23Just because something's well-known doesn't mean it's
- 26:25psychotic my face. Yeah.
- 26:27That that payment that made it even more I mean yeah I feel
- 26:31like that that elevated it from like yeah.
- 26:34Oh yeah memes to just fucking like Q picture of chowder, with
- 26:38the golden book that says comedy gold like Perfection, it's on
- 26:43the same level like I just uh-huh.
- 26:46Uh-huh, I keep looking back in that.
- 26:48I think about it more. Fucking god take me away from
- 26:53here. Here, I beg you.
- 26:58Okay. All right.
- 27:00Here's one. That's a little bit more
- 27:01nuanced. So the take is players who show
- 27:06up to socialize with fellow players.
- 27:08Rather than to physically explore dangerous places should
- 27:12be culled from your table. They place an uneven burden on
- 27:16other players by, not pulling their own weight, in terms of
- 27:18players skill, their share of the treasure.
- 27:20They take reduces the progression earned by the other
- 27:23players who are here to use their wit to get past the
- 27:26dangers of the underworld. Players should be better served
- 27:29by just hanging out with their friends at a separate event.
- 27:32Your player pool should be drawn from the players who fall into
- 27:34the power and performance model. Traditional as a as played by in
- 27:39the early 80s RPGs shine when they are played as a team sport.
- 27:44That's a lot to read. I'll post the last bit like as a
- 27:49team. Yes.
- 27:50Team sport question mark. Yeah, okay.
- 27:57I don't this got that got weirder and weirder as it with
- 28:01me because that's that's the whole point.
- 28:03Like socializing is the whole point of this fucking game of
- 28:06these days. It's great.
- 28:08Right. Because I picked this one
- 28:09because there are there are nuggets.
- 28:11There are tiny little little minimums in there that you're
- 28:13like, oh I can kind of see what you're typing.
- 28:15Then he says called it the table and you're like what?
- 28:18Yeah, first of all four, okay, yeah, on ironically say they
- 28:22should be called from your table.
- 28:24You should be called From the universe, my guy like all right
- 28:28kids all right, kids everyone we're gonna sit down and we're
- 28:31going to look at this one bit by bit.
- 28:32All right. All right, we're going to we're
- 28:33going to break this one down because I can't I can't address.
- 28:36This is one big statement because this is most like The
- 28:38Angry Joe like talking to see your project.
- 28:40Are you like what are you doing hanging out with other kids
- 28:42hanging, microtransactions your games.
- 28:44What are you doing? All right, first of all.
- 28:50Yeah, let me just address the word.
- 28:52Coal is one that's really a great.
- 28:56Sieve-like. Think old from your table.
- 29:01I mean, it sounds like you're gonna like string, all your
- 29:04players up and fucking hang them from your balcony, or something.
- 29:07Like cold is just not the word to be using back in the 70s.
- 29:10All we had was our beer, our pretzels, in our Dungeons.
- 29:12And that is yeah. Okay, so players who show up to
- 29:16socialize with, with fellow players rather than physically
- 29:19explore dangerous places. Nobody's physically doing
- 29:23anything. Yeah, that was great.
- 29:25And make-believe clickety clack, math, rocks.
- 29:28Nobody's physically doing anything other than eating chips
- 29:30and throw in math, rocks. All right, let's not.
- 29:33I don't know, I don't know about you, but I don't build actual
- 29:37Escape rooms for my players, would we play?
- 29:39Yeah, I've never, I've never actually punched a goblins head
- 29:43off. Ya know about, you know, my, my
- 29:48Barbarian Macho, Man reference, you know, would love to punch a
- 29:51drag. In the face me, Matt, if I see a
- 29:53dragon in the first time prefer, not I'm just gonna fucking stop
- 29:56plate and just be like, bro, make quick.
- 29:59Yeah, yeah, I'm shitting myself. They place in uneven.
- 30:05Burden on other players by, not pulling their own weight.
- 30:08In terms of players skill sentence, number 2, and
- 30:14sentence. Number one, feel like two
- 30:15different complaints you do. Yes, they don't even really feel
- 30:18like I get why you're putting them together, but they don't
- 30:21even really feel. Like that is a plate.
- 30:23Placing an uneven burden on the other players.
- 30:26All right, first of all. Some players like the extra
- 30:30weight, right? I mean, let's just start there.
- 30:34Like me. I'm the kind of player where I
- 30:36will just take over if the other players aren't doing anything
- 30:39and I don't care. I that's something I want to do
- 30:42because I always liked the sound of my own voice because I'm a
- 30:44narcissistic sociopath and I never shut the fuck up.
- 30:47So some people just are gonna pick up more slack than others
- 30:52just by choice but also what players skill are you giving
- 30:59everyone a ranking like are we are we placing everyone in a
- 31:02bronze through Diamond system. Are we playing League?
- 31:05I don't understand this. It's like Jeremy, he's over
- 31:08here. He's the next way to find V, ol
- 31:11sorcerer, Paladin fighter, multi-class, and then you have
- 31:14Bob over here who's playing a fucking monk.
- 31:17Yeah, I believe you just did that.
- 31:18Just like, but you can call me Percy with your fucking player.
- 31:22That was fucking amazing. I love you.
- 31:27From sorry, I'm like, yeah. And also, this sounds like this
- 31:35second sentence. I mean, this second sentence I
- 31:37could go on for hours. I feel like well, but this
- 31:40second sentence just feels like a problem of one, you know, half
- 31:44your table wants to play one game and half your table wants
- 31:46to play another game and you guys didn't have that discussion
- 31:48ahead of time which you should. Yeah.
- 31:52Stranger. And then you have the furball
- 31:54clown Barbarian? Well, yeah.
- 32:00It's like half your players want to play The Dungeon Crawler game
- 32:04and half your players. Want to play the critical role
- 32:06rom-com, fuck fest game and you didn't have that conversation
- 32:09ahead of time. So now you're trying to have a
- 32:11fuck fest in the dungeon and things are getting weird.
- 32:15You know, you. I don't know about.
- 32:16That sounds like a good time to me but I mean maybe for.
- 32:18Yeah. Well and if you maybe if you
- 32:19talk about it, sure, I think the best would be like, the both
- 32:22groups come together and diems like, guys, you know, I'm
- 32:24running, I'm running kingmaker, right?
- 32:26This is an operation type of game.
- 32:27Where the fuck are you doing, guys?
- 32:30Because I don't This is how we're playing, Shadow the Demon
- 32:33Lord. I don't know.
- 32:37This is what this is more board. No one supposed to be happy.
- 32:40This is workable. Yo, okay, a related but I've
- 32:46never actually looked at the rule book for more Cobourg but
- 32:49the second I heard that there was a game called Mark Borg.
- 32:52I was like I want to play this. I don't give a shit was sighs
- 32:54amazing. Yeah.
- 32:55More pork is like if you wanted to play basic D&D through the
- 32:59lens of over-the-top 80s. Heavy Be metal or death metal,
- 33:03this is amazing. But there's also there's also a
- 33:06like scripture to like Satan or some shit in the back of the
- 33:10book that says when you're done playing the game you have to
- 33:12burn the book crazy game doesn't like what if what if we just
- 33:17took brütal, Legend just made an RPG.
- 33:19Yeah, it's really it sounds omits wild anyway, next the
- 33:26share. Okay, here's okay, the share of
- 33:28treasures. They take reduces the Session
- 33:31earned by the other players are here to use their wits and get
- 33:36past the dangers of the under. Are you just complaining about
- 33:38like, Loop distribution? That's not even your problem as
- 33:41a GM. It, that's weird, wonder if it's
- 33:44like. So, the social player took the
- 33:47plus 3 sword as long as everyone's cool with it.
- 33:51Yeah, like it's just a dumb thing to bitch about.
- 33:56Okay. Already already getting negative
- 34:00reviews right now is that this is getting by d's.
- 34:02I most like this Yelp review, these players would be better
- 34:07served by just hanging out with their friends at a separate
- 34:09event. So this is base at this sentence
- 34:13is assuming they don't want to play at all, which is probably
- 34:18excuse me, which is often, it's not that they don't want to
- 34:23play. It might just be, they want to
- 34:25play a slightly different game or want to play.
- 34:27Say a different vibe. Like they're just not you know
- 34:32like you want to play D&D. They want to play monsterhearts,
- 34:35that doesn't necessarily mean. They don't want to play at all
- 34:37like like just because I just because I want to play Monster
- 34:40heart. So you play want to play D & D,
- 34:42doesn't mean that oh no what I actually want to do is like go
- 34:45to a club and flirt with people like no no I know I don't want
- 34:48to I don't want to play monsterhearts just because it's
- 34:50different doesn't mean it. Like that's that's just a weird
- 34:53like if you don't want to play the style of game I want to play
- 34:56obviously you're better off at a social event.
- 34:57Like huh, what? Okay.
- 35:02And then your player pool should be drawn from players who fall
- 35:06into power and performance model.
- 35:09That's a fucking dumb sentence. I'm not breaking that one down.
- 35:12Yeah, yeah that one that's just a dumb sentence.
- 35:14I can't even. That's a dumb sense.
- 35:17And then traditional, As played by in the early 80s RPGs shine
- 35:24when they are played as a team sport, okay?
- 35:27So what you're saying is you just want to play Old School D
- 35:30and D so you should just find a group of players who want to
- 35:33play Old School D&D. You don't have to say everyone
- 35:35else is a poopoo. Shithead because of that.
- 35:37Yeah you know where our bunch of other games you can play like
- 35:39Dungeon Crawl classic or old-school Essentials.
- 35:41Yeah. For that Vibe like?
- 35:43Yeah. But also like You don't have to
- 35:46complain about other people. Not this is just, this is a you
- 35:49know what this is. This is a guy who got a Grog
- 35:52Nar, who finally? I mean, yes, I mean, yes, yes.
- 35:55But other than that, this is a guy who finally got a group
- 35:58together after a fucking three years of not getting a group
- 36:02together, but some of the group didn't want to play the fucking
- 36:06meat grinder, ad&d Fest that he wanted to play.
- 36:09So he got mad about it. That's what this is.
- 36:12My favorite would be like if he's the GM and one of the
- 36:14players like, hey can I play by play a character in a wheelchair
- 36:17and then he's just like breaks all of his pencils and his
- 36:19Handler what? Yeah, that's what.
- 36:22Yeah, compound. Gosh.
- 36:25I mean I like this this is like I'm not even gonna ordained this
- 36:30with a shit or not shit. Take your just being an asshole.
- 36:36Like yeah you're just being a dick bro.
- 36:40Like just I get it, I get it, you're frustrated that your
- 36:43players don't want to play the game you play.
- 36:45That's why you talk about things ahead of time and make sure that
- 36:48everyone's playing the style of game that everyone wants to
- 36:50play. This goes back to the same
- 36:53fucking problem that this yo, all right, it's kind of a meat,
- 37:00don't want to okay? Yes, yes, Josh mauled called, do
- 37:04it for content. Well, I'm trying to think about
- 37:06how it because I don't want to bring up.
- 37:08He Who Shall Not Be Named necessarily but he used to say
- 37:10this a lot. Whatever.
- 37:13I'm just gonna say, all right, this is the thing.
- 37:14Adam koelbl, used to say so much, that it became a meme in
- 37:17the community. I'm, and, before anyone on the
- 37:20internet asked, yes, I'm very well aware of what happened with
- 37:22that. Um, Coble you dare speak his
- 37:25name. I know what I followed him for
- 37:28basically day one. Yes, I know what happened, but
- 37:30something he used to say a lot that I can still agree with
- 37:32because it's a correct statement even though he's a poopoo head
- 37:35is talk to your players. How's your players like open
- 37:41communication. That's what this is.
- 37:42This is and I mean it literally became so much of a joke like
- 37:46the talk to your players thing that he did a separate series of
- 37:49videos that were just relationship advice because he
- 37:53was often giving relationship advice in the GM advice because
- 37:56talk to your players is so often the answer.
- 37:59You know, that's what this is. That's what this you being an
- 38:02asshole. I don't know how to tell.
- 38:05It's to cut the chicken. Yeah, being an asshole.
- 38:07I just made a saying up I don't know how else.
- 38:11Yeah, I don't know why I said that.
- 38:14What the fuck? Don't know why I said that?
- 38:18I'm just confused and I feel like there's another saying that
- 38:22I was going for but I couldn't remember.
- 38:24So I made one up on the fly as I was talking I got to look that
- 38:27one up, that's good. Yeah, you know I my initial
- 38:31thought or not - thought my takeaway from this as I was
- 38:36making. It was.
- 38:37Did you just advocate for RPG? Eugenics.
- 38:40I feel like this is a weird. Yeah, yeah, that's the other
- 38:44problem is the way they worded it is really a grow.
- 38:48All the social people and push them somewhere else like brother
- 38:51and call them. Yeah you don't I was that's the
- 38:54other thing, right? Is you did not need to be that
- 38:56aggro about this. You could have said this in a
- 38:58much calmer like I understand you are frustrated, you could
- 39:02have said this in a kick from your table or banned from your
- 39:06table, that would be that. No, because that's not even
- 39:09really what it is. It's not it's not it's just this
- 39:12player just wanted to play a certain kind of game in the
- 39:15other players did it like all you needed to do?
- 39:18Do homie was worth this a little bit more nicely and explain your
- 39:21frustrations. It's all you had to do.
- 39:23But you know, Like that's really the Crux of it for me, you know,
- 39:32like it great. I hate, ER, call your players.
- 39:41All of them know to really all of not a single one.
- 39:43Yeah, rocks fall, everyone dies, kill them all fuck.
- 39:47Anyway. Yeah.
- 39:49Yeah, I'm not going to even ordained that with a shit.
- 39:51Take, you're just being an asshole fair enough.
- 39:55Although I feel like that level of combination, pretty much
- 39:57aren't automatically makes your shit together.
- 39:59Yeah. Yeah, sure.
- 40:00Yeah. I just want to extrapolate
- 40:02further on that one. I don't know.
- 40:04Matt you everything they had on that?
- 40:06No take not cool. Yeah.
- 40:10Take not his sandwich. Yeah.
- 40:14Okay. Very not cool.
- 40:15Yeah, stream with me for now. Fucking Christ.
- 40:19Alright, time for numero, or actually listened through these
- 40:24small one. Got me a little lightheaded.
- 40:29This was actually the longest one.
- 40:30So this this could be a good. Okay metric.
- 40:33Okay, not metric a stopgap. This one.
- 40:37The, the thesis statement is Dice.
- 40:40Are the least fun way to generate Randomness and there's
- 40:44for specific parts of this. So I'm going to, I'm going to
- 40:46read them out part by part. Going to take them in part by
- 40:48part and I'll post them. I already wish Sam was here for
- 40:51this one. Yeah, yeah, I do too.
- 40:53I I was really hoping it was gonna be here actually.
- 40:56Okay. So basis dice of the dice are
- 41:02the least fun way to generate Randomness exhibit a especially
- 41:07if your dice mechanics give rise to a uniform distribution, there
- 41:11is nothing structure. Structurally in the way of an
- 41:14overly lopsided Adventure, one player can have shit, Rolls all
- 41:18night and constantly fail while another just has a hot streak
- 41:21in. Can't do anything wrong.
- 41:22It doesn't often happen, but play long enough and it will
- 41:27with the rules provided. There isn't much to overcome it.
- 41:33okay, so I just I don't think this is a shit take, I do
- 41:37disagree with this because while it is shitty for that person in
- 41:41the moment, that sort of assumes, that things are going
- 41:44to swing around eventually write like this is the pendulum like
- 41:48one person's on one side having God to your log one person on
- 41:51the other side and I might be annoying that night or for like
- 41:55maybe you know if you if you really have the wheat and dice
- 41:58curse maybe you've just got God to your levels are held here
- 42:02levels of shit luck, right? Yeah, but all right sort of like
- 42:09this argument sort of assumes that this one player is like the
- 42:12the mysterious younger brother player.
- 42:16And if you don't have uniformity across the board, then you don't
- 42:24You can't have things like modifiers, right?
- 42:27You can't have like a standard for modification to numbers as I
- 42:30just flip a coin at that point. Like yeah yeah, yeah not a shit
- 42:35take but it was interesting. Well alright post post this one
- 42:40up. Okay I suppose this because
- 42:43there is multiple things in there.
- 42:44I was like, hold on, wait a minute, boss, boss boss, boss
- 42:47boss, Okay, I need to I need to hit this first point immediately
- 42:58because I just died. So, the least fun way to
- 43:01generate Randomness. Hi, how else are you gonna do
- 43:06it? They bring it up later.
- 43:08No more. Oh, there's more here.
- 43:13Okay, okay. Okay.
- 43:15Okay. So I'll put that one.
- 43:18I'll put that one on hold. Okay, especially if your dice
- 43:22mechanics. Give rise to uniform
- 43:24distribution, nothing, there there is nothing.
- 43:27Structurally in the way of an overly lopsided Adventure, No
- 43:34uniform distribution would imply that things aren't lopsided.
- 43:41There's a uniform. Just oh, oh.
- 43:43Okay. I guess he's saying.
- 43:47Right? But having a nun uniform
- 43:49distribution. You can still have the same
- 43:50problem. It doesn't matter how the
- 43:51distribution is uniform, but I know that doesn't even.
- 43:56Yeah, this that sentence doesn't make sense because a uniform
- 43:58distribution lowers. The likelihood that one player
- 44:02has a really bad time. In one player has a really good
- 44:04time, right? That's what the point of the
- 44:06uniform distribution should be so they don't even they're
- 44:10contradicting themselves. Right little bit.
- 44:15See that's what it seems like right?
- 44:16Because because if you're saying if you're saying the problem
- 44:19with the uniform distribution is oh someone could be someone
- 44:23could fall out the distribution. It's like, well yeah, but if
- 44:25it's less uniform, they're more likely to fall out the
- 44:27distribution. Yeah.
- 44:29You you kind of get the one person might be unlucky for the
- 44:33night too. Well, there's no like it is pure
- 44:38luck at that point. There is no.
- 44:40Yeah. It's like you go from one
- 44:41person. Might have a bad time to like
- 44:42guaranteeing. Someone has Abed time almost
- 44:45hmm, which is why so many people criticize using a D20 because
- 44:49the distribution is not uniform in a lot of ways and it's quite
- 44:52bad actually mathematically. But like, I think this person is
- 44:55an orc player. So just want it.
- 44:59They just want to live or die by the 50/50.
- 45:01And you know what? I respect it, I respect that
- 45:03today, but then they're arguing against the 50/50, right?
- 45:08Because because then they're saying, There, there's nothing
- 45:12getting in the way of a lopsided Adventure.
- 45:14One player can have shit rolls a costly fail while another can
- 45:16have a hot streak at can't do anything wrong.
- 45:19So like I don't even they're just arguing against themselves,
- 45:22I feel like so I'm not even gonna yeah I'm not even gonna I
- 45:25have no I have no further statement on this you're not
- 45:27even making any sense sir and/or Madam and or is a person like I
- 45:35guess give us the next chunk. Okay, right, I don't know.
- 45:39Unless unless what do you guys thinks?
- 45:40I'm reading this wrong? No, I see what you're saying,
- 45:44right? Like it's the idea that you want
- 45:46to remove uniformity to increase.
- 45:48Potential Randomness is a good thing.
- 45:51You remove, the idea that characters are just
- 45:54intrinsically, good. At some things that they've
- 45:56either trained in or they just have an intrinsic skill towards
- 45:59it, like having better eyesight. So by removing those things by
- 46:02removing uniformity, you Remove the capability for someone to
- 46:06buffer themselves from you. Be careful fucking rolls.
- 46:09Yeah. And then you're saying dicer a
- 46:11bad way to generate Randomness and then you say especially if
- 46:15you have uniform distribution like it's the other way around.
- 46:23Exhibit B. Yeah, okay, nice.
- 46:26Pools are better because they give a bell curve, normal
- 46:29results. Feel more like a usual allies
- 46:31rather than extreme possibilities happening.
- 46:33Within regularity, still hot / cold streaks can and do happen.
- 46:38Also the larger the pool of dice the more tedious things feel so
- 46:44there's Nae home someone that's played shuttle run once or twice
- 46:48comprende okay. Puppy comprende.
- 46:53Puppy SI senor? Yeah.
- 46:56Okay. All right.
- 46:57So, okay, you're so this person is saying D20 bed.
- 47:02Pool of D6 is good because you can sort of manipulate the bell
- 47:07curve further. That still doesn't fix the fact
- 47:13that their first statement contradicts itself Roots you
- 47:16yeah, remotes removes uniformity.
- 47:19Yeah, interesting. When I feel that it get sort of
- 47:22counters, it even more because you come with you, I believe the
- 47:28intended, meaning is that you come to more middle of the road
- 47:31outcomes rather than extremes, right?
- 47:33Doesn't make sense? Yes.
- 47:34So yeah, dice pools, mathematically.
- 47:38You have a A. You have more control over the
- 47:44numbering outcomes because it's the great sword versus great X
- 47:51situation, right? A D 12 verses to D6, the to D6,
- 47:55guarantees you a better minimum damage.
- 47:57So you're guaranteed like better averages versus the D12, right?
- 48:03That's what dice pools do is by having a pool of d6s.
- 48:08If I roll for d6s, I'm going to get a minimum of Lower as I'm,
- 48:12you know, like result. Now.
- 48:18The problem there is a lot of dice pool games don't actually
- 48:22look at the individual number and usually the way a dice Pool
- 48:25Works is, you has to be a target number on each individual died
- 48:30that then counts towards your success count so that changes
- 48:34the math but it's okay. All right, I kind of see where
- 48:37to get, although I will say, saying dice are the least weight
- 48:40of generate Randomness and then saying dice are better like
- 48:46Right. Like, because what they said,
- 48:48dice of the least fun. I thought they meant don't use
- 48:50any dice at all. That's why I thought that first
- 48:52sentence meant like, no dice ever.
- 48:55Like, I thought they were gonna say you should base all your
- 48:57mechanics around like, car drawers or something.
- 49:00You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 49:02But, no, they're saying using a single die is bad.
- 49:06Using a pool of die as good as what they're saying, but you're
- 49:08still using dice. Huh.
- 49:13Okay, all right. Matt, do you have any?
- 49:21Not really because I because I haven't played Shadowrun.
- 49:24I know a little bit of the dice pool mechanic.
- 49:27I mean, you don't need to pay his trial run to get what
- 49:28they're getting that, right? It's just the point is a dice
- 49:33pool. Just let you kind of have a
- 49:36little more control over the math, yet statistics basically,
- 49:42and the old, the way a dice Pool Works in most games is pretty
- 49:45simple. It's just so every individual.
- 49:49So Every die that goats over, like, let's say a 4 is a hit,
- 49:54you know, that's a hit on that die.
- 49:56So if you roll for dice and to of the dice one, route die rolls
- 49:59a foreign one dollar Rose a five.
- 50:00You got two hits and depending on the game, some games you only
- 50:05need one hit to succeed, some games you need multiple hits
- 50:08versus a number so I can Burning Wheel.
- 50:11If the GM says, this is a knob to test.
- 50:13That means obstacle to you have to get two hits on your dice to
- 50:17succeed. That's okay.
- 50:19It's still a Easy style. It's still like a, there's still
- 50:22a difficulty to everything you just away.
- 50:24Get to it's different. It's not.
- 50:29It's also not just shatter and lots of games, right?
- 50:33Exhibit. C cards are probably my favorite
- 50:37way to do RNG. God, what a mentee to have good
- 50:40and bad results and your street can only go so long.
- 50:43Add this sort of mechanical Ingenuity, we've seen from
- 50:45tabletop board games. Using cars, I think cards are
- 50:48massively underutilized, Now, I remember you fucking Magic the
- 50:52Gathering. All right, let me just I, let me
- 50:56just take a moment to apologize for me.
- 50:59Once again, flexing my psychic powers.
- 51:01I didn't mean to do that. Did you have a feeling that
- 51:04we're going to bring up using cards?
- 51:06I literally said that, did you not hear it?
- 51:08I mean, I literally said, I thought this person was going to
- 51:11say you should use a card system.
- 51:13I, you know, I might have missed it.
- 51:14Okay. Yeah, I've noticed that.
- 51:16Did you hear me say that? Yeah, okay.
- 51:18Yeah. I literally, I literally Just I
- 51:20fight, I knew I kinda hate that I knew where this was going.
- 51:26Okay. Um, listen, listen, I've been to
- 51:33plenty of Yu-Gi-Oh tournament. I see how those kids shuffled X,
- 51:36they're not orangey. Yeah, right, they cut them decks
- 51:40but that's not actually how you Shuffle.
- 51:44But yeah, um, I mean Hi. Yeah, okay I guess I think this
- 51:54person's perhaps. Discounting.
- 51:59Like yeah, you're comparing tabletop to like board games and
- 52:03tape and card games, but part of a lot of people want the in like
- 52:12the increased Randomness, is something people are looking for
- 52:17in tabletop games, that they might not be looking for
- 52:20importance, as in a board game. You're competing with each other
- 52:23in a tabletop game. You're not the the randomness
- 52:27can actually be a fun element even If it's bad Randomness.
- 52:31So this person's kind of assuming that everyone wants to
- 52:36be amazing and succeed 24/7. Which Is sort of not the case
- 52:43really. You know, that's why so many
- 52:47games rather than designing a game where you can't fail or
- 52:52you're unlikely to fail when a lot of games do is they make
- 52:56failure interesting. So whether you succeed or fail
- 53:00you get a good outcome either way rather than trying to
- 53:04manipulate the success chances. so like, you know, I also yeah,
- 53:12I mean, I think a less nuanced thought and my personal take on
- 53:17it is If I'm on a lucky streak, I don't want it to run out and
- 53:22if like that to running a game I don't want my players luck to
- 53:26run out like yeah. Never been like God I hope they
- 53:29fail this check like what the fuck?
- 53:31I mean I kind of like right and there's like times where it's
- 53:34like oh I hope they don't see this monster sneaking up on
- 53:36them. So yeah, I guess in that sense
- 53:37of others fail, it'll be more interesting.
- 53:39There's times there's times where them failing at, check
- 53:42could be interesting in like a day or two of its perspective
- 53:45but that's why I said a lot of games try to Make failure,
- 53:49interesting. Right.
- 53:50Because it there, there is that Ken be a thing.
- 53:55Yeah, I mean, I can't imagine anything less fun as a player,
- 53:59right? Then it like once you learn the
- 54:01math of the card system, whatever card system using and
- 54:05you're like, oh well I've rolled really good tonight but I got to
- 54:06do that. What do they say in?
- 54:08What's the like the old the penultimate bar to thing in
- 54:12Pathfinder like playing a concert for the gods?
- 54:15Yeah. Base.
- 54:15And it's like well I can only roll.
- 54:18Oh my God. Fucked.
- 54:19I I can't do anything else. Now, right, I've already drawn
- 54:22all my Aces from the deck. Yeah, I don't want, I don't want
- 54:26that. I'm drawn Four Aces.
- 54:28Yeah, it yeah, it creates a yeah, that's actually a weird
- 54:32thing to write. I've already drawn all my face
- 54:34car like let's assume face cards are good in this system.
- 54:37I've drawn all of my face cards already and now I have to do
- 54:41something really hard and I know for a fact it is 100% impossible
- 54:48because I know I drew all my good face cards already.
- 54:51Which just yeah that's I didn't even think about that.
- 54:53But that is also true and that's a really weird scenario to be
- 54:57in. Yeah, I also don't, ya would not
- 55:02want that. And you know, in terms of the
- 55:08wanting, the lucky streak to end, I'm kind of getting the
- 55:12impression. This player is this this
- 55:13person's art player, this person's arguing in the other
- 55:17direction, they're saying they want a system where bad streaks
- 55:22can end is more what they're getting at, you know, I think it
- 55:27kind of already, I don't think they're saying they want, they
- 55:29want players. Good luck to go away.
- 55:32I don't know where that might. That might not be what they're
- 55:33saying, but that is Yeah, I did say good and bad results so yes.
- 55:42But I am sort of thinking about this in the sense of like as a
- 55:45player. I got I don't want my luck to
- 55:47end so I'm gonna try to hold on to it as hard as possible.
- 55:50Yeah, plus plus when you get into a card system, you can kind
- 55:54of you start counting cards and you can start playing in a very
- 55:58reserved fashion. If, you know, like I've used X
- 56:02many of this card and then I'm You know, it's not like there's
- 56:05a lot of weird. Yeah, card counting right.
- 56:08That's that's literally the skill element in poker.
- 56:12Yeah, it's also not that hard. Fun fact right.
- 56:16Yeah, fun fact for you my my teacher my high school trig
- 56:21teacher taught us how to count cards and that was a homework
- 56:24assignment. We had to count cards, I think
- 56:28we had to do a hundred like hands I think is what it was
- 56:30called. And he was like, okay, use this
- 56:34system. Mm and write down the results if
- 56:37you do it, right? Your your estimates should be
- 56:40within this margin of error and you best believe all the
- 56:43students who were like never paying attention in class.
- 56:47We're counting cards, real good? Yeah, I mean Myself included, I
- 56:54mean, here's the thing, I'll give this person credit.
- 56:59If I came across an RPG that had a really well-designed, an
- 57:03interesting method of using cards for everything I'm
- 57:06intrigued. That's for sure.
- 57:08You know, like I'm actually looking up like tabletop games
- 57:12based on card system. So there's I know of one there's
- 57:16dead lands which is not 100% based on cards but has certain
- 57:21mechanics based on cards and I No initiative Works around a
- 57:24card deck, which is interesting. And I believe dogs in the
- 57:30vineyard has a card mechanic some kind or gambling mechanic
- 57:36built into it of some kind. But I don't remember the
- 57:38specifics because it has been a while since I watched the actual
- 57:41play that I watch for that game. But yeah, there are games that
- 57:46do use cards but I don't know of any game that's 100% based
- 57:50around a card deck, right? But if you were to To do that.
- 57:53I I think you would need you would need other mechanics to
- 58:01manipulate the deck such you know particularly if everyone's
- 58:07using from puff you know as everyone like there's a lot of
- 58:10questions that come to mind. Is everybody pulling from one
- 58:12deck? Is there any kind of hand
- 58:15sharing mechanic? Is there a shuffle, the deck and
- 58:18put every card back McCann? You know, there's a lot of
- 58:20questions that start to pop up. So, You would need to definitely
- 58:26think about a lot of that because I think about dices,
- 58:30they have a certain consistency, they can only do a certain kind
- 58:33of thing and all they have on them are numbers.
- 58:36Whereas cards are dealing with suits numbers and colors.
- 58:39So there's other mechanics you can put in there as well as
- 58:42counting and all this other stuff, you know?
- 58:46I'm not against the thought. This also doesn't seem like a
- 58:49reason to say dice bad. All right?
- 58:54I mean it, I mean, I don't know it's sort of I can see what the
- 59:02reason is it, you know, now that we've sort of talked about it, I
- 59:06kind of do understand where they're coming from.
- 59:08Like I wouldn't call this a shit take by any means.
- 59:11It is simply a take, I just disagree with strongly, you
- 59:14know. Yeah so we loving this between
- 59:16good take bad take and shit take or good, take a coke meth and
- 59:21then shit take it more like a good take controversial take
- 59:25bad. Take.
- 59:27Yeah, it's definitely like there's so this it's a semi
- 59:30controversial take I Hold a shit.
- 59:32Take I see what they're flying. I do think they have a there's a
- 59:37little bit of a logical fallacy though for them that they're not
- 59:42considering in that. Just because the card thing is
- 59:47an interesting. And nuanced idea, doesn't also
- 59:51mean dice bad, right? Like, right?
- 59:54You can say card system, cool dice also cool for different
- 59:58reasons, right? That's, that's what I do.
- 1:00:01Not like them shitting on dice. I think that's the part that
- 1:00:03bugs me. I think you're kind of,
- 1:00:05especially because again, some people really like the chaos of
- 1:00:09the dice, like, that's what they want and you're sort of ignoring
- 1:00:14that is why people love rolling for stats.
- 1:00:16They love the randomness in the chance of like you I could roll
- 1:00:19really high or I can get five intelligence.
- 1:00:23Yeah. I mean, Yeah, that that's the
- 1:00:27part that bugs me. I'm not going to say it's a shit
- 1:00:28take, but I don't like them shitting on dice across the
- 1:00:31board. I'm not a fan of doing, if that
- 1:00:36particular aspect and now it's a Polish things off with exhibit.
- 1:00:43D. I forgot, they're all.
- 1:00:45They have another one, forgot. There's another chunk of this.
- 1:00:47Am I? Is this where I get mad?
- 1:00:49Is this where I get mad? Are you sure a few one of the
- 1:00:52few holdout mechanics from old war games that I wish more
- 1:00:55designers left them behind? Oh yes, bro.
- 1:01:02I was on your team. I was arguing your side.
- 1:01:06I made the Iron Golem for you. I was on your team and then you
- 1:01:10had to go and be a dick about it.
- 1:01:12I-i'm. So I'm like, I'm so disappointed
- 1:01:16right now. I'm just saying, like, last
- 1:01:18week, dice were like used back in like ancient Egypt and Japan.
- 1:01:22Like, like I said, around way longer than war games, like I
- 1:01:28feel like after you got yourself a thing, I feel like a
- 1:01:31disappointed father right now, I was on your team.
- 1:01:38I was arguing your corner. I said, you know, I see what
- 1:01:41you're getting at. You have some valid points.
- 1:01:42You're, maybe not seeing the whole picture but you getting at
- 1:01:44something and then you had to make your last sentence.
- 1:01:47Be a dick about it. I just God, did I bet almost
- 1:01:53pushes it over into a shit? Take, I can't know.
- 1:01:58Looks like we both learned a lesson today son dude.
- 1:02:00We learned that you can't you know have compared to have a
- 1:02:03compelling argument and I learned that I shouldn't have
- 1:02:06faith in the internet. Yeah.
- 1:02:07Like we both lost. I can't.
- 1:02:11I wish more designers left them behind like it's some sort of
- 1:02:14like like it's holding like it's holding everyone back like it's
- 1:02:19some sort of curse it bullshit that we keep my God, like
- 1:02:23they're arguing if they didn't have so many holes.
- 1:02:27Al's in the argument like I could be like, all right, well,
- 1:02:31maybe there is a reason that like there's so many ways you
- 1:02:34could have worded that last sentence like saying saying, I
- 1:02:40wish more designers left them behind is making it sound like
- 1:02:45it's equivocating it to like, the way like detrimental.
- 1:02:50It's yeah, angling. The gaming sphere, its
- 1:02:52equivocating it to like, like mistreatment of women in movies
- 1:02:57or something like that. Like oh, I wish we left.
- 1:02:59That old 50's nonsense behind type to.
- 1:03:01It's like it's not harmful. It's you know, like no.
- 1:03:07It's just a different way to gets, first of all.
- 1:03:10First of all, this whole argument, especially with this
- 1:03:13final sentence, you're ignoring the fact that so many different
- 1:03:17games have used the dice. There's gotta be a reason that
- 1:03:21everyone's using them, if they were bad, everyone wouldn't use
- 1:03:25them. Tabletop game board games and
- 1:03:29gentle like Napoli. Fuck it like yeah.
- 1:03:32Video games used ice. Yeah, I mean they're fake dice
- 1:03:35but they are they are dice rolls essentially?
- 1:03:37Right around, just whatever is Eros.
- 1:03:39Yeah, it's random. Number generated.
- 1:03:41So like the idea that oh, oh, The dice are bet.
- 1:03:46So you're telling me that like 90% of RPGs are bad because
- 1:03:50they're using dice. God damn it.
- 1:03:55God. I wish Nick.
- 1:03:57Um yeah. You knew that last sentence was
- 1:03:59gonna get me I did correct. Who do that?
- 1:04:02Lets it's gonna get me. I look I'm you might be my
- 1:04:05scapegoat for content and I am apology.
- 1:04:07I'm sorry for that. It's just what you can sort of
- 1:04:10see why I couldn't resist. No, I yeah.
- 1:04:15Yeah man. I was a kid.
- 1:04:17I thought especially because I was arguing in this person's
- 1:04:19quarter the whole time. Yep.
- 1:04:21Top 10. Animated Trails.
- 1:04:22Hell yeah, no. Serial literally like that
- 1:04:25animate the trailed so hard. They're fucking Christ.
- 1:04:32Holy shit. Okay, go ahead the next.
- 1:04:35Okay. All right, nor 5 is lesser.
- 1:04:38It's a quick simple one. No campaign should be run in a
- 1:04:44single system. This was interesting.
- 1:04:49I actually as their Lord, that had be it.
- 1:04:51No, it was not. That's it.
- 1:04:52I had me a think on this one and I honestly I don't know if I
- 1:04:56agree but I would kind of want to try it.
- 1:04:58Yeah, I disagree. But I have seen it done in the
- 1:05:01first season of Adventure Zone. I think they ended up going from
- 1:05:05d and e to some other system. I think that they went through
- 1:05:07to other systems. I don't remember like towards
- 1:05:10the end of their first campaign Adventure whatever the hell you
- 1:05:13want to say and it was interesting.
- 1:05:16But you can you can tell that the guys Eyes were playing,
- 1:05:19we're kind of confused because they're so used to you know, the
- 1:05:21Indy. And then me as less than or
- 1:05:23being like I have no idea like did we we just switched games
- 1:05:27what's happening? Yeah, I mean, okay, okay, this
- 1:05:31is sort of with with the understanding that there's like
- 1:05:35an equal level of proficiency in both games.
- 1:05:39So the way they straight up that the whole thing is no game.
- 1:05:45Should be run and move slowly one system.
- 1:05:48Yes. That is the exact verbatim quote
- 1:05:52or campaign. They said, yeah, right.
- 1:05:54Yeah, okay. Obviously I disagree with it
- 1:06:00because it's a blanket statement and I intrinsically disagree
- 1:06:02with all blanket statements. There's so yeah, that's that's
- 1:06:05problem. Number one is, it's a, it's a
- 1:06:08It's a hilariously blankets to. I mean, blanket is like It's a
- 1:06:13it's a the blanket is so large, it's covering several continents
- 1:06:17level of blanket statement. I mean this blankets cover in
- 1:06:22the whole us, most of Mexico and bits of Canada. so, Okay.
- 1:06:32Okay, I'm gonna because we don't have any more context.
- 1:06:38I'm gonna assume this goes one of two ways.
- 1:06:40I'm gonna think about this on two sides of the argument here.
- 1:06:43Okay? One side.
- 1:06:47This is some sort of weird attempt to force people to play
- 1:06:51something that other D&D and I'm a cranky Wawa boy because no one
- 1:06:55wants to play other games. So I'm gonna say something sort
- 1:07:00of inflammatory Laboratory to like get a rise out of people
- 1:07:03for that reason in which case I would say that's dumb.
- 1:07:08There are plenty of especially because there are many tabletop
- 1:07:11RPG systems that are very succinctly and tightly designed
- 1:07:16to give you a very specific experience for a very specific
- 1:07:20kind of game. So the idea that you're going to
- 1:07:23slap another game in there like halfway through or whatever is
- 1:07:27just ridiculous. I mean Let's use blades in the
- 1:07:31dark here, blades. In the dark is very specifically
- 1:07:34designed to be a game. That is about running your
- 1:07:36criminal Empire and doing Hice and are not even Heist.
- 1:07:40But doing like you know, illegal missions, you know doing like
- 1:07:45criminal missions, it could be stealing, it could be drug
- 1:07:50running, it can't it could be smuggling, you know, it could be
- 1:07:55extortion, right? But that blades on the dark is
- 1:07:59very specifically designed to you play criminals trying to run
- 1:08:03a criminal Empire doing illegal activity to run your criminal
- 1:08:06Empire. If you're telling me that like
- 1:08:10halfway through, I should just swap over to D and D and run by
- 1:08:13criminal Empire and d and d. That is brain-dead stupid.
- 1:08:18That's like let's go your water Jeep Dragon Heist on then we'll
- 1:08:21jump in the blaze in the dark. Probably maybe could could work
- 1:08:24was yeah, actually that's that transition to that.
- 1:08:27Directions might work a little bit better but then from Blaze
- 1:08:29the dark, where do you go from there?
- 1:08:30You don't know. Yeah that's the thing.
- 1:08:32Like yours out sort of what I how I envisioned it right.
- 1:08:36Is if we take something like like dark heresy right before
- 1:08:41it's a warmer 40 K TT RPG where you play as like inquisitorial
- 1:08:45acolytes. And let's say you're in your
- 1:08:48dark heresy game, you have to seizure Hive world, right?
- 1:08:52Because some crazy nergal light bullshit going on and you're
- 1:08:55getting to the bottom, you get to the under Hive and of the
- 1:08:58five players, four of them get murked, right?
- 1:09:02So as opposed to being like, well we're going to make the
- 1:09:05characters like make a whole new party for the characters.
- 1:09:08You go. Oh well The Inquisitor is
- 1:09:10sending you on a top secret mission and then you get thrown
- 1:09:13in with a Space Marine ask Atari why?
- 1:09:17And like a sanctioned sychar and then you switch over to wrath
- 1:09:19and Glory. That I could be like this is
- 1:09:23kind of interesting, I like what's going on here, you know.
- 1:09:26Okay. But that whole example Isaiah
- 1:09:29that you just listed out is first of all very clearly if you
- 1:09:34were doing something like that, it'd be very clearly planned but
- 1:09:38also that's going from a system representing a specific setting
- 1:09:43to another system representing the same setting in a different
- 1:09:46way, right? So that's a, that's a good, easy
- 1:09:50transition. You know what?
- 1:09:51You want to do it like sending agnostic, right?
- 1:09:54Sir? You can do D and D 2 Pathfinder,
- 1:09:56right? Because you're very close to
- 1:09:58each other and that's what I was gonna say.
- 1:09:59You could like you it would be a bit of a stretch and I'm
- 1:10:03acknowledging that it's a bit of a stretch but you could do it
- 1:10:05with say Pathfinder to like Shadowrun where it's like, oh
- 1:10:12the big you killed the time God big fucking portal.
- 1:10:15Opens up. You get dropped 200 years in the
- 1:10:16future. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:18Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 1:10:18Like Samurai jacked? Yeah, and people have suggested
- 1:10:21crazy. It like that.
- 1:10:22Like, oh my D&D player's got to level 10.
- 1:10:24I threw them in the portal. Now we're playing monsterhearts
- 1:10:28in high school, you know like or whatever.
- 1:10:30Like yeah. And people have totally
- 1:10:31suggested that kind of wacky. Woo, hooo shit.
- 1:10:33And in that regard, those are fun ideas.
- 1:10:38But again we don't we lack the context we do or what you like
- 1:10:43because person is saying. So we're filling in what this
- 1:10:46person said with good ideas, right?
- 1:10:49Even though they could have been thinking really dumb shit.
- 1:10:52And we don't know fair enough. So the more charitable take I'll
- 1:10:59take on the Moor. That's weird sentence, the more
- 1:11:04charitable look, I'll take on this, I guess.
- 1:11:08Is that what they're saying? Even though this is a really
- 1:11:12poor way of saying it, but what they're trying to say is you
- 1:11:15should add Homebrew elements from other games to your game.
- 1:11:22So, they're not literally saying you should switch the entire
- 1:11:24system. So much as they're saying, good
- 1:11:26mechanics from other systems, you can add to your normal
- 1:11:29system to better your campaign and if that's what they're
- 1:11:32saying, I agree. But I don't know factors just
- 1:11:36like Z bash. You can just jerry-rigged
- 1:11:37anything in the 5e and it'll just work and I mean, I know but
- 1:11:45say it and I know you were fucking around Matt.
- 1:11:46But genuinely for example, you can take I know.
- 1:11:51Cuz I've done this you take the long you take the, what's it
- 1:11:56called, take the extended project mechanic from blades in
- 1:12:00the dark. The long-term long-term project
- 1:12:02you take the long-term project mechanic from blades in the dark
- 1:12:06and you graphs that on to D and D and now you have a much easier
- 1:12:09to use crafting system and or just project system in general
- 1:12:13that you can utilize for your D&D game.
- 1:12:16If that's what this person is saying, that sort of a thing.
- 1:12:19Totally agree. But I have no fucking clue
- 1:12:23because they just said, a really blanket.
- 1:12:25Really broad really dumb statement.
- 1:12:28So yeah thanks I'm gonna say it's a shit take by virtue of
- 1:12:32you just didn't give enough details like it's so broad that.
- 1:12:36It's it has to be a shit take because of how fucking broad it
- 1:12:41is. You know what I mean?
- 1:12:44Like it's too big of a blanket. Like that.
- 1:12:48Yeah, it's a shit. Take by virtue of being a
- 1:12:50blanket statement. It says right stuff, fair
- 1:12:54enough. I mean, I'm without context.
- 1:12:58I'm inclined to agree. I think with some inferred
- 1:13:00context, not a shit. Take I think actually it could
- 1:13:04be a pretty decent take honestly.
- 1:13:07Yeah no he actually will idea. There's totally cool ideas.
- 1:13:10There are totally cool ideas of switching systems made campaign
- 1:13:14or jumping to another system for a short period of time or
- 1:13:18grafting, the mechanics of another system onto your game,
- 1:13:21for a specific part of the of Your campaign, you know, oh,
- 1:13:26we're playing Shadowrun, but I want to have a space battle, so
- 1:13:29we're going to graft the Starship mechanics from stars
- 1:13:33without number on to Shadowrun for this one portion of the
- 1:13:36campaign, that sort of thing. There's totally cool ideas, you
- 1:13:40can get it but it's so fucking vague and Broad and also the
- 1:13:43word no campaign. Like no campaign ever is like
- 1:13:48you just like now get the fuck out of here.
- 1:13:52Get the I got here. What I do find interesting is
- 1:13:55you and I had completely different ideas for what that
- 1:13:59could mean. Exactly.
- 1:14:00That's, that's like, prop. That's the problem.
- 1:14:02Yeah, yes, that is the problem. But I think it is, it's a
- 1:14:04fascinating sort of like, thought experiment for, if
- 1:14:07someone were to hand you this statement as it is and say
- 1:14:11extrapolate. It leads to some interesting
- 1:14:14branch office. You know what I mean?
- 1:14:15Oh yeah, I mean, I can extrapolate this.
- 1:14:17Lots of ways you could and we seem to have done that.
- 1:14:20Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:14:21So it's like that as well. I don't know why I left you out,
- 1:14:24but yeah, yeah. Okay.
- 1:14:28All right. You ready for take number 6.
- 1:14:31She's a, let's go. I'm having heart palpitations
- 1:14:33for sure. Oh, don't worry, it's fine.
- 1:14:35This is, this is good. I'm waiting for the one that
- 1:14:38will get me as mad as Josh. I actually don't know.
- 1:14:41When I, I don't know, but my good one is as much as possible.
- 1:14:48PC, you should only know what their characters know.
- 1:14:51This means GM is role for a role for all PC perception.
- 1:14:54Checks behind screens that players never get to see spell
- 1:14:58or monster list excetera. You know, I've been on record
- 1:15:03with it. Ladies and gentlemen, the last
- 1:15:05bit, this is an Omega Level shit take.
- 1:15:09Yeah. Well, he's an Omega Level threat
- 1:15:11to humanity. So I will say this, the the
- 1:15:14players never get to see the Spells and mausolus thing.
- 1:15:17This is a big thing, like I do have like a little pet peeve
- 1:15:21with because it's like, you know, like players like you
- 1:15:25players shouldn't look up. Monster stats players.
- 1:15:27Shouldn't look up actually spells I don't know expelled.
- 1:15:32First sign that one. Yeah spells are fine but like
- 1:15:34monster list monster stabbed blocks.
- 1:15:36Okay Matt like you're coming at this from.
- 1:15:40All right why? I'm this is just the one little
- 1:15:43tiny nugget in this the rest of this, this whole thing fucking
- 1:15:48garbage, okay? But like that, and like I'm
- 1:15:51taking AB nugget from this end and making it into a different
- 1:15:56kind of idea in general. Okay, not saying like, players
- 1:15:59never see spells monsters list, that's fine.
- 1:16:02Start with. That's not what I'm saying.
- 1:16:03Let's start with the Nugget. All right II.
- 1:16:06Yes. I get where you're at because a
- 1:16:09lot of people are like, players from ever.
- 1:16:11Look at Monster snap. Looks sure.
- 1:16:14The problem is this is basically an impossible, ask you ever have
- 1:16:19a player who wants to run the game, they're going to look at
- 1:16:21that blocks. If you've had a player who's
- 1:16:23played in a shitload of games, even if they don't look, they're
- 1:16:27gonna start to memorize things about monsters.
- 1:16:29You're going to know when you're fighting Revenant, so we have to
- 1:16:32kill them with fire radio damage, you know, it's
- 1:16:35impossible. Ask now, I'm not saying that in
- 1:16:39the middle of the fight. While you're playing the game,
- 1:16:41the player should bust open the book and start looking.
- 1:16:43No, I'm not saying you should do that.
- 1:16:44But if you want to look at the stat Block in between sessions
- 1:16:46after the fights over and we're you know, we beat the monster
- 1:16:50already, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, whatever, you know, maybe
- 1:16:53you want to just see something about the monster, maybe you're
- 1:16:55curious about how specific ability Works, maybe you're
- 1:16:58thinking about running the game in the future and you really
- 1:17:00liked that monster. So you want to look at it so you
- 1:17:03can commit it to memory. There's lots of reasons to
- 1:17:05potentially look at the the monster book and you're not
- 1:17:09always necessarily going to be a player.
- 1:17:11So it's basically just an impossible asked to say Never
- 1:17:14look, ever, you know. However, you are correct.
- 1:17:18And yeah, you're correct. Matt and saying that you
- 1:17:21shouldn't go out of your way to look at the stat blocks.
- 1:17:24That's that's a No-No. Well, I think I know, and we've
- 1:17:27argued about this to a little bit where it's, like, you know,
- 1:17:29I I disagree with the, it's an impossible task, if you build
- 1:17:34that trust for your player group, but I do think it is a
- 1:17:38hard one. I will say that, well what I'm
- 1:17:42saying is it's basically a name again.
- 1:17:44And even if they don't even okay, let's say you.
- 1:17:47It's not about trust. So this is what I don't like how
- 1:17:49you're framing. It's not about trust, it's just
- 1:17:52what happens because there's so many circumstances where you're
- 1:17:56going to potentially end up. Either looking at the moment at
- 1:17:59the stop block or memorizing, the step, like, like even if
- 1:18:01they never ever low examples. Then so if there's a player, not
- 1:18:06expecting the Run the game ever doesn't want to run DND ever
- 1:18:10just a player. What do you say that guy?
- 1:18:13It might still want to look at the stat block.
- 1:18:15Just to like, see like, oh, was the cool monster ability or
- 1:18:18like, look at the artwork in the book.
- 1:18:19I like there's no need to, they're not planning on running
- 1:18:22the game. You know, if they want to look
- 1:18:24at art or lore or whatever? Yeah, that I mean I like like
- 1:18:29looking at the stat blocks like what this thing does.
- 1:18:32I mean, why does it matter if you fought it ten sessions ago?
- 1:18:35Well, it's one of those things where it's like the monster
- 1:18:37could always come back. You always have a like, you
- 1:18:39know, GM's sometimes they look a sure.
- 1:18:42I'm totally gonna bring up the cr5 goblin again, they went on
- 1:18:45their level 15 like I mean yeah you can but like come on.
- 1:18:49Well I like it, you're gonna go Friday.
- 1:18:51Well yeah, sorry, I'll all I was going to say is I sort of see it
- 1:18:54like In. I don't see it as particularly
- 1:19:00practical to tell like your players.
- 1:19:04Don't look in the monster manual, if you're like playing
- 1:19:07in my game. No, it's not.
- 1:19:10It's especially if they bought the books themselves.
- 1:19:13True, there's that. And there's like the difficult
- 1:19:16argument comes into a, well, you don't need to and if you sort of
- 1:19:20extrapolate, this to a logical end, you don't need to do a lot
- 1:19:24of things like You know, you don't really like need to
- 1:19:30strategize in D&D. You don't need to build the
- 1:19:32character. Who's good at what you can just
- 1:19:34sort of like, let the things go and do what they like.
- 1:19:36Let them lie where they lie but you do them because you want to
- 1:19:40write, this is the argument for like, well, you don't need six
- 1:19:42cars. No, you absolutely.
- 1:19:44Don't you? It is not place, is arguably.
- 1:19:46Don't even need one but you'd want them, you know, well I
- 1:19:49still disagree but I'm just gonna not mean you get another
- 1:19:53one for being here. I also don't go We agree with
- 1:19:56the or not, don't agree. But I don't the idea that you
- 1:20:00said a player who's never going to GM.
- 1:20:02I think every player should at least think about GI me.
- 1:20:05No I don't I know I'm this is this is going for the like the
- 1:20:09idea of what I brought the example.
- 1:20:11This is like there's a player out there.
- 1:20:13Never wants to run DND, doesn't have an inkling.
- 1:20:16Doesn't want to even try it, or has tried it.
- 1:20:18Maybe doesn't want to and it's like, you know, I'm happier
- 1:20:20being a player, sure? That that was the person.
- 1:20:23I meant your I just never feel someone like I don't know, I
- 1:20:28just feel like you're attributing malice to something
- 1:20:30really benign. I'm not really coming from it as
- 1:20:34like dude, wrong you bad. Kind of our, you're kind of
- 1:20:37saying you're bad for looking at the monster stop block, so I can
- 1:20:40surprise you anymore and like, that's not what I'm saying.
- 1:20:44That's what it sounds like over here.
- 1:20:47No. And what are you saying?
- 1:20:49Because it because again, if you're a player you shouldn't be
- 1:20:52looking at, you shouldn't be looking at monster stats because
- 1:20:54I've had instances where players I swear, it's like what if you
- 1:20:56want to do the thing that's and did, just want to change the
- 1:20:59status on the side, monster ability on like on the fly or
- 1:21:02ended to him. Then you have the give the
- 1:21:05player with the book, open? Your actually diem?
- 1:21:07Well, no. Okay.
- 1:21:08But see this is I'm saying I didn't say, okay, well see
- 1:21:12that's the thing. Now you're me, I know you miss,
- 1:21:14you're misinterpreting my words here because that's not what I
- 1:21:17said. I didn't say, the player should
- 1:21:19be sitting at the table going, um, actually that's know
- 1:21:22obviously what happens, but that's not what we're talking
- 1:21:25about. Well, or so we're talking about
- 1:21:27either me and Isaiah are talking about between sessions.
- 1:21:31The session is over. You guys fought a werewolf, the
- 1:21:34player goes, oh, I wonder how the werewolf curse ability works
- 1:21:37because we didn't get to see it in game, but I'm kind of
- 1:21:39curious. Looks at the monster about.
- 1:21:41Oh, okay, that's how the werewolf curse ability works.
- 1:21:43Okay, that's interesting. And then closes the book and
- 1:21:45moves on with their day. I'm not talking about a player
- 1:21:48sitting at the table strategizing how to beat the
- 1:21:51monster by looking at the monster manual.
- 1:21:52Well, you're fighting the monster in question but that
- 1:21:55curse ability thing. What if that comes up later?
- 1:21:57What if like, you know, they, they look it up after the
- 1:21:59session oopsie each week. Then they do not Hoops real
- 1:22:04quick, real quick. I believe it, I personally as
- 1:22:09and I've said this before, I personally believe that it's if
- 1:22:12a player's like weight, but they don't have that ability.
- 1:22:15You're the simplest response that is totally valid and you
- 1:22:18now. Yeah, it's the ultimate really
- 1:22:21it like, because Also to for a player to believe that you are
- 1:22:28automatically Wrong by a home, brewing, a stat block at all,
- 1:22:34giving it at separate ability, a higher DC, more Health more AC
- 1:22:38to believe like watch. I can't believe, I can't believe
- 1:22:40that they would do that. I'm sorry.
- 1:22:41Yeah, I'm not like this is an X. This is like something like, I
- 1:22:45don't have to sit real issue with my table.
- 1:22:47Most of the, like I just, it's just something like, it's not
- 1:22:50really an issue. I deal with what is a thing that
- 1:22:53I find like I don't like the idea of it.
- 1:22:57Okay, sure. It's not fair.
- 1:22:59I think you should have here allowed to have this opinion,
- 1:23:01but I think it is worth challenging, right?
- 1:23:03Like this. We might maybe one day have an
- 1:23:05example, that changes your mind. You might not, but we might, I
- 1:23:08think you're correct if the player in question is
- 1:23:13specifically, looking at stat blocks ahead of time for the
- 1:23:17express purpose of knowing how to beat the monster that they're
- 1:23:21about to fight like un session. And the Werewolf appears and the
- 1:23:25players say. Alright, we're going to start
- 1:23:26really like, next time. We next time we play, we're
- 1:23:28starting with the fight and then the player looks at the where
- 1:23:31we'll stop block before the session with the express.
- 1:23:33Intention of, I'm going to figure out how to beat the World
- 1:23:35by looking at the stop block. Yes, then you are correct, Matt.
- 1:23:39But that's not the kind of person I'm talking about.
- 1:23:42I'm talking about someone who's just looking casually or has
- 1:23:46played a whole bunch, so either they memorize it or they've seen
- 1:23:49it once or twice. I mean, like, come on.
- 1:23:51You're gonna like, what, like, you're gonna get mad at them if
- 1:23:54they were like hanging out with a buddy at a friend's like, oh,
- 1:23:56look at this, cool stat block or something.
- 1:23:58Like, there's so many scenarios. Are you going to run across the
- 1:24:01stop block? That's why I say, it's basically
- 1:24:02impossible to say, you can never look at any step like ever.
- 1:24:06That's why I'm saying it's like an impossible ass because
- 1:24:08there's so many scenarios where it's going to come across your
- 1:24:10path. Okay, real quick.
- 1:24:13I have an interesting hypothetical Matt, if you're
- 1:24:16completely fine to disagree with this wholesale but hear me okay?
- 1:24:20What would you say to the player?
- 1:24:21Who wants to do something like a blood hunter?
- 1:24:24Or a spit, like a monster hunter Ranger and it's like, oh, I know
- 1:24:27a lot about Goblin woods. So they go through at the
- 1:24:31beginning of the like you know, if you talk with the DMV like I
- 1:24:33know about Goblin noids. Would you be mad?
- 1:24:36If they were like? Oh, I'm because I specialize in
- 1:24:38goblins. I looked up a few goblins that
- 1:24:40blocks. I know what they do because
- 1:24:41that's what Mike Last does depends what level they are.
- 1:24:45Like there's so many things I would go into that.
- 1:24:47If they're like level one, I'd be like you know it's a little
- 1:24:515. I'm like all right maybe but
- 1:24:54that guy like that stuff. I like that researching stuff in
- 1:24:57game and that's why you were judicata NG on the fly up to
- 1:25:02you. Like that's not that's a really
- 1:25:05hard thing to adjudicate. Is that you being like well
- 1:25:09level 5 makes sense but level one dozen some players might be
- 1:25:12like. Yeah.
- 1:25:12But my character, my character is super old and their backstory
- 1:25:17and their level 1 because they haven't been to venturing for a
- 1:25:19while. So they like Lost Levels but
- 1:25:21they've been around, so they would know.
- 1:25:23Like, there's a cake. Yeah, I got.
- 1:25:26It depends. It's one of those too much on
- 1:25:28the Fly there for me. All right.
- 1:25:29What about extrapolation on this hypothetical?
- 1:25:32What if they're like? They're like, okay, I only
- 1:25:34looked up go Once that blocks that are cr1 and below.
- 1:25:37So they're always like, I like, I looked up the stop block
- 1:25:40because it's below my level. It's still like I still don't
- 1:25:43like it. I still disagree with.
- 1:25:44I don't like it. Like I like I like it.
- 1:25:49When like the players want to do that research in character in
- 1:25:53game like until you're you like it doesn't matter.
- 1:25:56If your character would be like, we're starting at level 3 in the
- 1:25:58campaign. Like, you were out this whole
- 1:26:00backstory up like your Goblin Slayer, you've been hunting
- 1:26:02goblins for years until your character touch his feet.
- 1:26:06You don't know like shit, I'm sorry, I don't like, I don't
- 1:26:09care, you don't know. The Goblins that block, you
- 1:26:11might know some lore because that's your thing and maybe as a
- 1:26:14GM, we worked like, you know, you player.
- 1:26:16Ask you like, hey, Hey, I want to make a goblin Slayer guy.
- 1:26:19What would I know? And then you talk about it and
- 1:26:22depending on their background stuff but like I like that to be
- 1:26:24in game so interesting. Okay, fair enough.
- 1:26:30All right, let's see. I'm going back to the actual
- 1:26:33shit take. Yeah, you know, I'm not be
- 1:26:35missed. We missed so much of it.
- 1:26:37I don't need. I'm, I'm done.
- 1:26:39We can move on from this one's. We only did like her.
- 1:26:42Okay, sir, come on, we only did. He did the important part of it?
- 1:26:45We all know that was the only part of the ship tank that
- 1:26:46mattered but the oh, actually, I think you should.
- 1:26:50Yeah, I think the first one is the one that we skipped over PC
- 1:26:52should only know what their characters now.
- 1:26:53And that's a fucking dumb thing to say, I don't do we even need
- 1:26:56to justify that. Like yeah I mean I feel like I
- 1:27:00kind of do just because I have the, I mean, I do that too,
- 1:27:05sometimes. Well, like, if think about it
- 1:27:07this way, PC should only know what their characters do.
- 1:27:10If you're a level 20 wizard that's impossible, like it's
- 1:27:15literally impossible, I can't do that.
- 1:27:20Like this is what annoys me about this one.
- 1:27:21Before I got mad at Mat like this is what annoys me about
- 1:27:24this one. Specifically is the idea of all
- 1:27:26PCS, can't know the or have, they phrase it PCS.
- 1:27:30It only know what their characters know, or does it wait
- 1:27:33a minute, wait a minute. I have a problem with the
- 1:27:35statement player characters should only know what their
- 1:27:39characters should know. Wait a minute are playing a game
- 1:27:44of badasses of the players playing players player.
- 1:27:52What do you mean? You're not an electrical.
- 1:27:53What are you? You're not a Netrunner.
- 1:27:55You don't, you don't have. Cyber implants in your break.
- 1:27:56What that? You can't, then you can't use
- 1:27:59your side without ammonia. Doing a bunch of monsters who
- 1:28:01are playing as Adventure. It's all right.
- 1:28:04I can't pain. So, ignoring that fuck up of qat
- 1:28:08of syntax there? No, I think that.
- 1:28:11Yeah, they should only know what their characters.
- 1:28:13I don't think that's a fucking been syntax.
- 1:28:15I think that was a perfectly know.
- 1:28:18It is a fun because, like a person meant to say was players,
- 1:28:21should only know what their character?
- 1:28:23Yes. Yes.
- 1:28:24That's what they meant to say. They put player characters.
- 1:28:28Yeah. Yes.
- 1:28:29But most A lot of people just refer to players as PCS, I know
- 1:28:32but it's still if you break down the acronym it sounds really
- 1:28:35dumb but anyway the even yeah you have the level 20 wizard
- 1:28:42example. Who's got the 20 intellect or
- 1:28:44whatever? Sure yeah but here's the other
- 1:28:48problem and this is this is the real Crux for me.
- 1:28:52Your players are not fantasy adventurers every day of their
- 1:28:58life. Your characters are fantasy
- 1:29:02adventurers every day of their life.
- 1:29:05There are things that your characters would know and
- 1:29:09remember that you as a player in real life are not going to know
- 1:29:12or remember because you have to go to work at your accounting
- 1:29:15job in the morning. So it's stupid to be like, oh
- 1:29:20well if you don't remember, this is usually where it comes up,
- 1:29:22right? Oh, I don't remember Y X or Y
- 1:29:25thing happened. Oh, well, then your character
- 1:29:27doesn't remember. No, it It happened to my
- 1:29:31character yesterday. My character would remember.
- 1:29:34It happened to me, the player two weeks ago.
- 1:29:37Yeah, it's like, I guys, you just anyone remember what they,
- 1:29:40how, many gems we found? Last week, Jim up, but you
- 1:29:43didn't write down. So I guess, you forgot.
- 1:29:45It's like, I come on, man. You kind of just, yeah, exactly,
- 1:29:47just tell me how many my character, thron dear, the
- 1:29:51ranger would remember how many gems he picked up because it
- 1:29:54happened to him five minutes ago.
- 1:29:57We cut last session at the end of the dungeon.
- 1:29:59And he wouldn't forget how many gems are in his bag, five
- 1:30:02minutes ago, I have to go to work.
- 1:30:05And last week, when we ended session, I had a very stressful
- 1:30:08day the day after. So, no GM.
- 1:30:09I don't remember Harry fucking gems are in the bag, so lick my
- 1:30:11balls. That one gets me as you can tell
- 1:30:15particularly annoyed. And now I'm done being at Matt
- 1:30:17because now I'm mad about this. Yeah, I knew this, I got him.
- 1:30:25I got him. Yeah, you definitely got rid of
- 1:30:27all. I wasn't even actually.
- 1:30:29Mad at, by the way, I mostly just taking the piss, but I am
- 1:30:32mad about this because people I have see GM's legitimately do
- 1:30:36the shit. I just experienced.
- 1:30:38This it is a yeah. You know, like just picture just
- 1:30:43picture right? You're playing your game on
- 1:30:45Sunday night and you get to the end of the dungeon and you
- 1:30:49collect all your route and throng.
- 1:30:50Dear, the fucking Ranger has 500 gold in his bag and he's like
- 1:30:54sick when we get back to town, I'm gonna spend the shit out of
- 1:30:57this and then session ends. And then, you know, you're in
- 1:31:00college. You have you have classes on
- 1:31:02Monday, you have a test. You fucking you're stressing
- 1:31:05out. You got to deal with the test
- 1:31:07and then I'll shit. I have a project.
- 1:31:08I got to do by Thursday. I do all this work.
- 1:31:10All right. Friday comes around.
- 1:31:12I'm just going to chill for a bit because Thursday was a rough
- 1:31:14day with the project and everything.
- 1:31:15I got roasted in the critique. I'm I guess I guess we're
- 1:31:18assuming this is an art student I guess we're talking about.
- 1:31:20Yeah, I got roasted during the critique on Thursday.
- 1:31:23So Friday. We're gonna hang out with the
- 1:31:24boys were going to go to the pub that's like down the road.
- 1:31:28You know, Saturday rolls around. I got to do some homework for my
- 1:31:30Monday class Sunday, rolls around caustic, D&D night.
- 1:31:34Ogm, how much gold did we pick up?
- 1:31:36Oh, you don't remember, then I'm not gonna tell you.
- 1:31:39Well, we didn't write down. Each has an exact bro, suck my
- 1:31:42left nut. Excuse to sir, you want it.
- 1:31:45You want to do my homework for me dickhead?
- 1:31:47You want to come in and do the critique?
- 1:31:49You son of a bit like yesterday? I think, I think I've done
- 1:31:53something like this once where it was like one of those random,
- 1:31:56like the players found something.
- 1:31:57And so, I randomly ruled what it was and I'm like, I you find
- 1:32:00this next week rolls around. Hey Matt, do you remember what
- 1:32:04we're old for that random thing is that last week?
- 1:32:06A shit. No that was like a random spur
- 1:32:08of the moment. Thing.
- 1:32:09What did I say? We got a six.
- 1:32:12All right. No one remember, wrote down a
- 1:32:14thing. The fuck.
- 1:32:15Did we roll 640? Yeah.
- 1:32:17Well, I have done that. I have done that forgets that
- 1:32:23you're shit out of luck. Yeah.
- 1:32:24Yeah. Experience for like, yeah, boss
- 1:32:33kills. And I just like forgot to write
- 1:32:34it down and then most people didn't write it down or keep
- 1:32:37note of it or like remember what the One or subtraction to their
- 1:32:40actual XP was and I was like well I don't know.
- 1:32:43You got 1,000, congrats. I also like I'll just guess
- 1:32:46debate. Yeah I have been there.
- 1:32:49I've done that. All right.
- 1:32:50But like the other big thing I think that's worse is that the
- 1:32:53second line where it's like Jim Rose for PCs perception behind
- 1:32:56the Scribe. Yeah.
- 1:32:58What's like the that's like this the thing like I know I know
- 1:33:01back in older editions de like the GM would roll your stealth
- 1:33:05checks. I there's a part of me that's
- 1:33:08like, that's interesting. Also, I don't like that,
- 1:33:10although I don't want to do that work.
- 1:33:11Hold on, hold on. Hold on.
- 1:33:13I don't think that was a rule so much as like, a very commonly
- 1:33:16accepted Homebrew type thing. Fair, I don't think that was a
- 1:33:20rule in the game. Yeah.
- 1:33:24But there is just the percentage.
- 1:33:27Like there's an interesting idea behind hiding certain kinds of
- 1:33:34roles. The stealth role is the one that
- 1:33:36comes up a lot, right? Because the I meant with the
- 1:33:39stealth role is, well, you don't know how stealthy you're being
- 1:33:42because you don't know who's looking for you which is like
- 1:33:46yeah. You have a bit of an argument
- 1:33:48there but yeah. I think the the diffusion of
- 1:33:54workload outweighs that premise for me, you know, like it's a
- 1:34:00cool interesting idea. But like Isaiah said, I don't
- 1:34:02really want to have to do that every time I don't want to have
- 1:34:05to remember, or write down every player, stealth bonus and all
- 1:34:08that. Like, It's just not I just want
- 1:34:11to tell the player role is stealth check for me.
- 1:34:12You know why I have like in your because like on I don't know
- 1:34:16other probably table. Mule virtual table tops this but
- 1:34:19I have my own like little DM screen but has like little notes
- 1:34:22of like all right everybody's past the perception checks
- 1:34:25everybody who knows what language is so I know what the
- 1:34:29fuck like I can call out if I find something in my deep
- 1:34:32speech. Yeah, I mean and you could do
- 1:34:34that and that's fine but I still just, I don't know it.
- 1:34:38Yeah. Just rather tell the player
- 1:34:40looking to do it. I'm going to be real if if my GM
- 1:34:43did this to me. Like I said, they were like I
- 1:34:47want to adopt this rule. So yeah, as soon as wasn't done
- 1:34:50from the beginning right supposed to be getting out of
- 1:34:52shit out of luck but if they were like, we're gonna start
- 1:34:54doing this now, I'm just going to be a troll and be like but
- 1:34:56Gia my past the percept. I'm going to say my passive X
- 1:34:59y&z, I'm just not going to care. I'm 100%.
- 1:35:01Okay, with being a troll and dying on that Hill, you're just
- 1:35:05like Michelle. I have the alert feet and the
- 1:35:07observant fee and you put your vitals are receptions, 22 GM,
- 1:35:13you know. But Jim, I've alert, I'm just,
- 1:35:17his are doing shy. This is the you ever watched
- 1:35:20the, there's a guy on YouTube by Dan.
- 1:35:22You just made a video is Like I Roll perception.
- 1:35:24Check to see what's in the room. You mean investigation?
- 1:35:27No, no. I want to use perception so I
- 1:35:29can look around and find things like me investigation, you know.
- 1:35:33Actually no, I don't want to do that.
- 1:35:34Can I perceive the guards into not telling me?
- 1:35:37It's like, no, because the guards kill you and you die this
- 1:35:40time, save that the guard, stab you and you die.
- 1:35:42It would you that? Yeah, 100%.
- 1:35:44That would be me. Yeah.
- 1:35:50I mean, although I will say as a you don't think there's any
- 1:35:53argument and or convincing reason that someone could give
- 1:35:57where they roll some of your stats for you kind of thing.
- 1:36:00No no that's that's not that's not say if it was if that's what
- 1:36:03was agreed upon at the beginning and fine I'm saying in the niche
- 1:36:08situation where Jim is like, I'm going to start doing this now,
- 1:36:10without it, I think it's cool. Yeah.
- 1:36:15Yeah. All right guys we're going to
- 1:36:18start using the encumbrance Rule now.
- 1:36:20No, I yeah. Okay way through a campaign way
- 1:36:24through. If someone did that to me, I
- 1:36:26just stopped. I'm just gonna not take any of
- 1:36:27the way. Yeah I mean if you do it Midway
- 1:36:31through. That's some that's some shyster.
- 1:36:33Yeah. All right about this one for a
- 1:36:35while. We only got three more and then
- 1:36:37some honorable mention dog, dog. So we're gonna go with this one.
- 1:36:45Having a mechanical system for influence is a waste.
- 1:36:48It should be reflected in the narrative and not by using
- 1:36:50points to buy favors and other things.
- 1:36:53Big thumbs up, big thumb. I'm not even job.
- 1:36:55Sure what they mean? Good take.
- 1:36:58So I based on the context that I garnered from the comment
- 1:37:02section on this one and there was a lot of them so I didn't
- 1:37:05just, there's no point. I believe their argument was
- 1:37:09that Basically Charisma skills should just not really be a
- 1:37:15thing. See, I don't think Charisma
- 1:37:18skills. Shouldn't be a thing I think
- 1:37:19this because I, my me a thought goes to the whole influence
- 1:37:23action. Shit.
- 1:37:24Yeah. I don't think that's what I had
- 1:37:25cups. I don't think that's what
- 1:37:27they're talking about. Yeah.
- 1:37:28I think it's just more of an overall like any.
- 1:37:31Yeah. So the second sentence should be
- 1:37:35reflecting The Narrative and not by using points to buy favors
- 1:37:38that almost kind of sounds like they're making fun of the System
- 1:37:41in games, like Dragon Age, where you give your Give Up character
- 1:37:44gifts, and then they like, fall in love with you, type thing.
- 1:37:48That's kind of how that. So I don't think they're
- 1:37:50necessarily talking about the influence action.
- 1:37:54If they're saying I mean yeah this is another I would
- 1:37:57extrapolate please sir. Because I don't I guess.
- 1:38:03There's only so many words. My tweets.
- 1:38:04Josh, there's always so many you can string some tweets together.
- 1:38:06It's fine. I don't want to use twit longer.
- 1:38:09You don't have to you can literally just string tweets
- 1:38:11together. So let's put to specify the
- 1:38:14further. The a question in the further
- 1:38:16response was the question, what about something used to
- 1:38:20establish contacts and relationships?
- 1:38:22Or is that not considered influence the response was?
- 1:38:25That doesn't need a mechanic? Okay, yeah, see that's right,
- 1:38:29disagree. No I think this is I think this
- 1:38:33player this this this is not this player.
- 1:38:36This person is trying to basically be like oh, you don't
- 1:38:41need a mechanic to reflect certain things you can just like
- 1:38:47play it out. There's so many problems and
- 1:38:53scenarios where having a mechanic can be useful or
- 1:38:58designing something can help a player out.
- 1:39:01Like, or it can make the game more interesting.
- 1:39:03I mean, this is basically a shit take because it's again, it's to
- 1:39:06blanket of a statement. You know, like I have seen games
- 1:39:11that have a mechanic for how you can influence, or sort of use
- 1:39:16points of Faber to get an NPC to like do something or nudge them
- 1:39:21in a specific Direction and its really it's cool and
- 1:39:24interesting. And also, you know, the way the
- 1:39:28the place where I think a mechanic like that, Where, you
- 1:39:31know, and influence mechanic, if you will is really cool.
- 1:39:35And helpful is let's say you have a player who's like not
- 1:39:40who's not. Let's say you have a player
- 1:39:41who's the opposite of me and Isaiah and they don't talk that
- 1:39:44much and they're not like super, they're not gonna, they're not
- 1:39:50going to like talk over anyone. They're not going to push to the
- 1:39:52front of a conversation necessarily or they're not going
- 1:39:54to push the front well in play. But they want to play the spike
- 1:39:59Spiegel character. They want to play.
- 1:40:01Face. They want to play the pilot of
- 1:40:02the ship. They want to play the shit
- 1:40:03talking bar, right? Like they want to play that
- 1:40:05character but they in real life are not necessarily like that.
- 1:40:11I having a influence mechanic, I don't even like the word
- 1:40:14influence mechanic but let's just go with it because that's
- 1:40:16what they put. Having an influence mechanic,
- 1:40:20you give that player the ability to have the power fantasy of
- 1:40:24being the cool charismatic face character without having to
- 1:40:29like, learn how to be Kara. Asthmatic in real life which is
- 1:40:33kind of like an unreasonable request, you know.
- 1:40:36Like if I want to play the super strong orc I don't have to prove
- 1:40:40that I'm really jacked in real life in order to play the strong
- 1:40:42orc, I just get to play the strong work because I have a
- 1:40:45high strengths that I have Athletics, etcetera, Etc.
- 1:40:48So having influence mechanics. If my power fantasy is before
- 1:40:53work, man, and your power fantasy is cool.
- 1:40:55Bard, like cool barred leader of the group.
- 1:40:58We can both have our power fantasy because We both have
- 1:41:01mechanics to reflect it, so that's where that kind of stuff
- 1:41:05that comes into play. And on top of that, having a
- 1:41:09mechanic for doing the thing where, you know, if you're
- 1:41:13playing Shadowrun and you're like, man, we need someone to
- 1:41:15help us break into a building and then you could play the
- 1:41:18character who's like, I know a guy having a mechanic for, I
- 1:41:21know a guy can make it really cool.
- 1:41:24And also it can do lots of fun things.
- 1:41:26Like introduce a new MPC that your GM didn't wouldn't have
- 1:41:30thought of before. Or introduce a new facet of a
- 1:41:33characters backgrounds. There's so many ways that you
- 1:41:35could do a cool, like a cool and interesting, like influence
- 1:41:39mechanic that this is just like a dumb.
- 1:41:42But this is again the same problem to blanket of a
- 1:41:45statement to Broad dumb. Yeah.
- 1:41:48Like this trick saving book like one of the only good things,
- 1:41:52I'll say it has a whole relationship thing.
- 1:41:55And yeah, I have the monkey with it but it gets players to
- 1:41:58actually want to role play and talk with.
- 1:42:01Other NPCs and have connections and they gain bonds or Boone's
- 1:42:04if they're like frenemies and encourage a certain.
- 1:42:06That's the other thing is you can use.
- 1:42:08It can take to encourage certain kinds of play.
- 1:42:10Yeah, I mean the I know a guy. One was something I was going to
- 1:42:14bring up. Yeah, I like that one.
- 1:42:17Yeah, there's any wheel circles. I think there's literally a
- 1:42:22Gambit in a house games called. I know a guy I wouldn't be
- 1:42:25surprised. Have I told you about circles
- 1:42:27Isaiah, I am unfamiliar yeah, I think so.
- 1:42:31Yeah, yeah. It's basically basically you
- 1:42:33have a stat that's called certain.
- 1:42:35Yeah, it's a stab or less, that's called circles.
- 1:42:39And whenever you need to, whenever you need to like, call
- 1:42:42upon or create an MPC whiz useful, to you, in something
- 1:42:48like you need someone to help you out with something.
- 1:42:50You roll your circles and the GM.
- 1:42:53The more specific you are. The more difficult, the circles
- 1:42:56role is and the more broad you are that.
- 1:42:58Eat. So, for example, if you roll
- 1:42:59circles and you say, I just need to get find a guy who owns a
- 1:43:03house, the GM's going to be like, all right, well lots of
- 1:43:05people own a house, that's only obstacle one.
- 1:43:08I need to find a guy who owns a house who also owns the gun, who
- 1:43:11knows how to fix that gun, and who also has military training.
- 1:43:14All right now you're getting really specific obstacle for
- 1:43:17you. Make the roll and basically, the
- 1:43:21NPC exists, whether you succeed or fail, and what the role does
- 1:43:25is dictate their relationship to you.
- 1:43:28You might fail the role and then the guy who owns the gun exist,
- 1:43:32but he's pissed off at you for something or you owe him money
- 1:43:36or something like that you know. And that's that is an incredibly
- 1:43:41good example of a quote-unquote influence mechanic now are
- 1:43:45further. I get.
- 1:43:46Yeah. I mean the relationship when I
- 1:43:48guess yeah. Like that's good.
- 1:43:50Yeah they also did this in the remember if it was in the child
- 1:43:54or a book or the wild Mount book, one of the critical role
- 1:43:57books it was wild. Yeah, the they had the
- 1:43:59background Chronicles. Yeah.
- 1:44:01And then James hey made one specifically for the Forgotten
- 1:44:06Realms that I fucking love. Then would have loved to use
- 1:44:09because it's just interesting. It's like you couldn't have like
- 1:44:12kind of like in your wheels. You can have an NPC who's, like,
- 1:44:16I think it one of them is like a weretiger.
- 1:44:18It's like one of your friends is aware tiger.
- 1:44:19However, your relationship with them is Rocky because they're
- 1:44:23always do something from his dad.
- 1:44:24You're like what the fuck? Wait a minute, it's just because
- 1:44:28they're aware tiger. No shit.
- 1:44:30Yeah, right. You think the we're talking
- 1:44:32thing would be a you know, a problem but it's actually not.
- 1:44:34It's the most normal thing about.
- 1:44:35Well we could talk to Steve, why don't we do that?
- 1:44:38Why? Well because he's aware tiger
- 1:44:40and like he's usually pretty good for it, but there is a
- 1:44:43chance, he rips one of our throats out, it's a it's a
- 1:44:46fucking Bayern from The Hobbit where they're like, well when
- 1:44:49he's a man, he's pretty chill, he's probably gonna help us and
- 1:44:52they're like wait what do you mean when he's a man?
- 1:44:54Well there's this thing where he's at Bears, sometimes
- 1:44:56sometimes a lot less shill. That's a good.
- 1:45:02He's good. All right, basically, once
- 1:45:07again, if you cast a broad wide, net blanket, you're probably
- 1:45:11gonna look like a poopoo head. Here's one.
- 1:45:19GM's. Who fudge dice?
- 1:45:20Shouldn't get upset with players who fudge dice.
- 1:45:23If you as the GM? I can't even finish.
- 1:45:25This trip is if you as the GM, ask your players to trust you
- 1:45:28that, you know, best when the game will be made better by
- 1:45:32altering a dice roll. Why don't you give the same
- 1:45:34trust to your players? First of all, they put an extra
- 1:45:40tea and tabletop RPG. I like that right off the bat
- 1:45:48actual fuck. I think, I don't remember, I
- 1:45:54think I've mentioned this once once in a while, where I think
- 1:45:58the only thing I really like fudge is a DM is like health of
- 1:46:02monsters. But it's really because, like I
- 1:46:05roll20. I didn't know for the longest
- 1:46:06time that you can hide your rolls.
- 1:46:08So I That's automatically rolled in the open and I'm just like,
- 1:46:12I'm just, like, fuck it. That's fine.
- 1:46:14This is how it is now. So, I mean, yeah, whatever.
- 1:46:19I mean, it doesn't even matter how much fudging you do or don't
- 1:46:22do. That's not even what the person
- 1:46:23is saying is like, right? But like it.
- 1:46:26Yeah, you should get shouldn't get mad.
- 1:46:27Like it's hard on a tabletop perspective because can't really
- 1:46:31do like a virtual tabletop because you can't really cheat
- 1:46:33unless it's like, hey, hey, Billy, no, you don't.
- 1:46:37Notice that your I noticed that your Your stats say you have a
- 1:46:40plus 10 to your own arm straight?
- 1:46:42Yeah, yeah, yeah, man. Oh shit.
- 1:46:45I don't know how that happened. My my strength went from 15 to
- 1:46:4930 hajjis. Let me let me fix that.
- 1:46:51Well, I mean, I think you kind of focusing your kind of
- 1:46:53focusing on the wrong thing here though.
- 1:46:55Matt, this is less about the fudging itself and more about
- 1:46:58this person talking about like trust issues is right?
- 1:47:03Well, that's why I'm getting, you know, I'm getting to like,
- 1:47:05the fudging like being up. So full-fledged ice you was Jim,
- 1:47:08Tressel Player you notes. If you as a GM Master players to
- 1:47:17trust that you know what's best for the game when when the game
- 1:47:21will up, sorry have just fucked that up.
- 1:47:22So badly. Yeah.
- 1:47:23Wait wait asked if you ask Ag and get ready to get this.
- 1:47:27If yeah, if you as a gym, ask your players to trust that, you
- 1:47:31know, best when the game will be made better by altering the dice
- 1:47:35roll. Why don't you give them the same
- 1:47:37trust to your plate? Huh.
- 1:47:44This statement is predicated on the assumption that the players
- 1:47:50and the GM are sitting in the same seat of power.
- 1:47:54They are not and you can assume that the players and the GM are
- 1:47:59equal in this regard because they're not as social contract
- 1:48:04that I as the GM have a greater sway over how this goes because
- 1:48:08that's what we all agreed to hear. and, The idea that, oh, if
- 1:48:17you fudge dice, your players should be able to fudge dice
- 1:48:19because they can also make the game better.
- 1:48:22Well no. They're going to make the game
- 1:48:25better for themselves but when you as the GM or fudging dice,
- 1:48:30you're trying to manipulate the game for the whole group and
- 1:48:35you're supposed to you're supposed to be doing it for an
- 1:48:38altruistic reason. A granted, obviously you can be
- 1:48:41a dickhead about fudging dice. But you can be a dickhead about
- 1:48:45everything in tabletop games. So, that's not really an
- 1:48:47argument. It's idea my, it kind of rolled
- 1:48:51the pickpocket, the, the Paladin, I rolled a three
- 1:48:53Thirty. This is like, you just rewrote
- 1:48:56now, his cock. Yeah.
- 1:49:00It's just, it's just first of all, it's just a silly idea.
- 1:49:04Think about players fudging dice because at that point, why are
- 1:49:09we rolling dice at all? If everyone's budget dice, why
- 1:49:11are we even rolling dice? We're all just yes.
- 1:49:12Making up numbers like what you know but also the point of the
- 1:49:18players is the Players want to be challenged that's part of the
- 1:49:25challenge. And again, that the powered, the
- 1:49:28power Dynamic is not equal in the table.
- 1:49:29Top game by Design you know damn wanted you can throw up trash at
- 1:49:35your level 3 players and say fuck you and if you have a
- 1:49:38problem with the power Dynamic, not being equal play a GM list
- 1:49:43game, right? Like we're play a solo RPG, you
- 1:49:50know, which do both of those things exist.
- 1:49:54And it's just If the power Dynamic was equal, this sentence
- 1:50:02would make sense but it's just not.
- 1:50:05So, this whole sentence goes out the window.
- 1:50:09Like I don't there's no other way I there's no, yeah, I mean
- 1:50:12there's all the way to put it. Like, I'm not even mad, I'm just
- 1:50:16disappointed. That you are missing the point.
- 1:50:20Understandable. I yeah I saw this one and it was
- 1:50:23so fascinating to me. Maybe you should have been an
- 1:50:27honorable mention, I'm not sure. But it was so fascinating so
- 1:50:29it's a shake. yes, beside that it like It to me, it sort of
- 1:50:37seemed like a maybe this person. I like the two screens of
- 1:50:42thought that I had was either. This person came from GM list.
- 1:50:46Systems was sort of, not really wise to the idea is to like the
- 1:50:52actual importance of Jia Ming. Yeah.
- 1:50:54What the point of the gym is? Yeah, maybe or they had a
- 1:50:58really, really bad GM who they knew was just cheating.
- 1:51:01Like I like an RPG horror stories.
- 1:51:04I'm just like Why can't I do that?
- 1:51:08Well it's you know, it's not like you said it's not really
- 1:51:11the points or also byproducts of good intention.
- 1:51:16What does hopefully good intentions also from a purely
- 1:51:19like moralistic standpoint problem to your GM cheating is
- 1:51:26not for you to also cheat through.
- 1:51:29Yeah I like that that's that whole like two wrongs.
- 1:51:31Don't make the right situate. Like if the problem was your GM.
- 1:51:35M is cheating. You cheating in return solves,
- 1:51:38literally nothing. This is all anything.
- 1:51:43Mmm. So yeah, I don't some solve
- 1:51:50anything. I actually.
- 1:51:53Yeah. So this is like it's all my
- 1:51:56daughter. It's like I almost want to say,
- 1:51:58it's not a shit. Take it's a misguided.
- 1:52:00Take example, that's exactly what I was gonna say.
- 1:52:02I don't think this is a shit take actually.
- 1:52:04I think that there's probably some good intentions behind this
- 1:52:07take despite what it literally says I do.
- 1:52:11Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it seems like there is like
- 1:52:13a yeah, you're trying to have good intentions but you're sort
- 1:52:19of Not thinking about it all the way you're not thinking it
- 1:52:24through. It just kind of saying it.
- 1:52:28Yeah. Yeah I'm yeah.
- 1:52:31I think my final verdict not a shit take but I think it is a
- 1:52:33misguided take to say the least. I'm gonna say it's a shit take
- 1:52:37by virtue of just I disagree. Wholeheartedly fair enough but I
- 1:52:41understand how the person could be misguided.
- 1:52:49Yeah. And for the final one, Oh yeah.
- 1:52:58I do not mind at all. When a GM tells me how my
- 1:53:01character is feeling, a lot of people seem to really hate this.
- 1:53:04I personally don't care. As long as the GM doesn't try
- 1:53:06to. Well, actually me if I have a
- 1:53:08different idea on how my character feels.
- 1:53:15Like I can, I can see it. So the only way I can see this
- 1:53:20with like the whole character feeling thing is if it's like
- 1:53:24not like a personality thing if it's like you went to a haunted
- 1:53:27house and it's like you all get the sense like of dread kind of
- 1:53:31washing over you or oh you get you know, fucking someone's
- 1:53:35whoop, you know, like there's an eerie feeling in the air, not
- 1:53:38like your characters really sad because they lost their favorite
- 1:53:42dagger, you know, like, I don't like that.
- 1:53:45I like that idea. Yeah, you're kind of on the
- 1:53:51train of thought that I was at there met The thing about this
- 1:53:58is this is getting into psychology a little bit, but the
- 1:54:01thing about emotions and feelings, you don't have control
- 1:54:07of them in real life, right? Like, well, you have control of
- 1:54:13you don't have control over knee-jerk, so I think is what
- 1:54:15you mean. Um, sometimes even more than
- 1:54:19that. I mean think about how often
- 1:54:21you've gotten mad and you're not even really a hundred percent.
- 1:54:24Sure why you're so mad about something, but you are, and then
- 1:54:28you're mad for the next hour and you can't, you just can't, you
- 1:54:31know what I mean? Like there are many situations
- 1:54:35where you are not 100% in control of your emotions.
- 1:54:41So the idea of that in game you know there's a certain like
- 1:54:51because a certain understanding they're like reasonableness
- 1:54:54there but the caveat That yes, you should not try to because it
- 1:55:04is a game, you shouldn't try to take over your so like even if
- 1:55:08it's true that you often don't have control of your emotions,
- 1:55:10you shouldn't try to like, take over the player characters, you
- 1:55:14shouldn't try to take over the players character.
- 1:55:18What you can do things like, you know?
- 1:55:23You can sort of imply, the knee jerks and stuff like that.
- 1:55:26Your player, your character walks into this room and they
- 1:55:29feel a little uncomfortable. They feel a little scared
- 1:55:32because of X y&z thing. Your character walks into this
- 1:55:35room, and they feel a feeling of euphoria, for whatever, you
- 1:55:37know, because of like the beauty of the place, blah blah, like
- 1:55:41sort of little momentary. This is how your characters
- 1:55:44feeling things are fine, the crossover of you're going too
- 1:55:49far, is if you start, If you start trying to dictate how a
- 1:55:54character feels in the long-term.
- 1:55:57So like, the character, you know, the player character talks
- 1:56:01to the king and then after the conversation, the GM's like
- 1:56:06Because of the events that happens on the previous week.
- 1:56:10And what happens with the men who died by your side, you feel
- 1:56:14deeply angered at the Kings choices, right?
- 1:56:17That's when you're going too far because now you're sort of
- 1:56:19dictating over a long span of Time how the character feels on
- 1:56:23like an almost like it's going Beyond feelings and it's going
- 1:56:28into the realm of like, I don't even know what I would call it.
- 1:56:32Like you're sort of controlling the character says psychology,
- 1:56:35like their Rational thinking because that's the thing is
- 1:56:38feelings, are often irrational. Once you get into the realm of
- 1:56:42like, oh, I'm also now going to influence your rational thinking
- 1:56:46and you're going a step too far. As I agree.
- 1:56:49I mean, the reason why I specified the knee-jerk says I
- 1:56:52will actually do that with that plan.
- 1:56:55So like you know you dropped a wrench in your immediate thought
- 1:56:58is like shit, you know. Yeah.
- 1:56:59Oh you dropped the Rancher annoyed, you drop the wrench?
- 1:57:01Yeah. The only time will I will go
- 1:57:04farther than that. I will say possibly your
- 1:57:08character. Possibly feels this.
- 1:57:10They're sort of give them an inkling as to like, what the
- 1:57:13situation your larges? Yeah, your character may feel
- 1:57:15mad about the situation. Your character may feel stressed
- 1:57:18out because What happened? Your character might feel scared
- 1:57:22because of the atmosphere. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:57:24And then with the intention of them I'm actually hitting me,
- 1:57:28right? Because it's like, oh, well,
- 1:57:29actually my characters used to this situation, right?
- 1:57:31Because they're like, you know, they hang out with the, the
- 1:57:34ne'er-do-wells of the city. So they're in their element.
- 1:57:36Oh my God. Cool.
- 1:57:36Fucking go for it. Yeah, you're yeah, you're
- 1:57:40leaving intentional room to get the, um, actually back.
- 1:57:43Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:57:49I mean, this is, yeah, I don't think this is your take.
- 1:57:52I think, I mean, this is weird partner to, it's a, it is
- 1:57:54definitely different. I, I think this is actually a
- 1:57:58good dig. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:57:59I agree. I think this is a pretty good
- 1:58:02take. I think this I think this is
- 1:58:03totally reasonable plus. If you give if you sort of give
- 1:58:07the GM permission for this kind of maneuver, you give some
- 1:58:13leeway for them to do some on storytelling stuff.
- 1:58:18Oh yeah. Have you say to the GM?
- 1:58:21Yeah, you can sort of dictate a little like you can dictate to a
- 1:58:25certain degree how my character might be feeling in a moment,
- 1:58:28then the GM can narrate like they can make things more.
- 1:58:34Dramatic by sort of imposing a feeling on, on your character
- 1:58:39you can make things more dramatic and interesting.
- 1:58:43I mean, I think There's a fine line though.
- 1:58:47Yeah, there's a final. I think for me the thought that
- 1:58:51I had was it's just sort of faster.
- 1:58:53I feel it is. Yes.
- 1:58:56Because it's opposed to being like you drop the wrench holds
- 1:58:58hand out and they all my characters like shit, okay,
- 1:59:03yeah. Well you dropped it, it's
- 1:59:04usually like you drop the wrench.
- 1:59:04Your initial thoughts will be something like now shit and then
- 1:59:07you go to pick it up and as you reach for it, it drops deeper.
- 1:59:09And then we get the pan down shot of the wrench falling
- 1:59:11through the gear work and that can set up a plot Point.
- 1:59:13Like, yeah, it's Totally a, it's totally a pacing knob that you
- 1:59:21can control. It is a good friend.
- 1:59:28All right, I guess. Matt, Matt has no strong opinion
- 1:59:30on that one. Oh yeah.
- 1:59:32No, no, no, sorry. All right.
- 1:59:35I gotta say what I say. In the beginning.
- 1:59:38None of these, none of these had you like not that one.
- 1:59:42I try harder shit that I find ones that will specifically.
- 1:59:47Yeah. I mean Matt is sort of like,
- 1:59:51actually no we got one, he's living, he's getting his my
- 1:59:53chance if his mm. Yeah, he can't.
- 1:59:55Yeah I mean to be fair we got one out of them.
- 1:59:57Players should never look at the monster.
- 1:59:58Stop block. True.
- 1:59:59True. We got some unknown although
- 2:00:01that was Matt getting annoyed at me rather than the shit take.
- 2:00:04So I guess I guess maybe Mission failed in that case, I don't
- 2:00:07know. Huh.
- 2:00:08Well not really annoyed but both question.
- 2:00:11He fails. Never mind.
- 2:00:13I take it back without my input. It wouldn't have been the case.
- 2:00:17So everybody you have to try harder.
- 2:00:20Next time. Is it something like every time
- 2:00:21I kill a player? I eat their dice.
- 2:00:23Yeah, it's like all right. Hmm.
- 2:00:30Choi. So we've hit the honorable
- 2:00:34mentions. Yeah, the first one I removing
- 2:00:40some stuff because it's a little politically charged.
- 2:00:44I will, I will not mention it vocally, but I will tell it to
- 2:00:48you. I'll just send you the.
- 2:00:49Take the last one on the last part of this.
- 2:00:54So the the parts that matter are Farmers should subtract from
- 2:00:59damage and not to hit many games.
- 2:01:01Do this, the world is changing this hobby is for everybody.
- 2:01:05That's as far as I'm going to go.
- 2:01:08What why would that even the one that gets me is if you don't
- 2:01:13like it, get off because it's a rough ride.
- 2:01:15That's where I was like, bro. Yeah, you just honestly just can
- 2:01:20I ignore that. Okay, I do actually want to read
- 2:01:23this out because it doesn't make any sense.
- 2:01:27Am I crazy here? So not I mean it's not I don't
- 2:01:33think it's that bad not but yeah if I don't know, if I say if you
- 2:01:36think it's just not want me. I don't think it's bad.
- 2:01:38I just you know, we've sort of hit a farm a Firm Stance on
- 2:01:42neutrality and all things. So it's a dump like armor should
- 2:01:46start. I'm just going to read if I get
- 2:01:48our subtract from damage not to hit many games.
- 2:01:50Do this, the world is changing this hobby is for everybody
- 2:01:56changes to lure need to be made and representations need to be
- 2:02:00added added. If people don't like it, get
- 2:02:02off, because it's going to be a rough ride.
- 2:02:05The first two sentences have nothing to do with the final and
- 2:02:09nothing. The second half of that, we just
- 2:02:12end up there. It doesn't even matter.
- 2:02:14Like, I don't even know what they're getting at because the
- 2:02:17idea of armor to hit versus subtract and that's what I'm
- 2:02:21gonna do with the presentation from, I might be Miss parameter
- 2:02:25but that's what that go was, right.
- 2:02:26Or no, no, no, no backhoe is a backhoe was essentially I don't
- 2:02:34tell them they don't worry. God, I just from what I remember
- 2:02:37that basically was a gauge that had to be drained until it hit
- 2:02:40zero lower. AC was better in Deco, right?
- 2:02:44That's where a lot of people started getting my into the
- 2:02:46minuses and it was, you know, shit.
- 2:02:47Lower AC was better, it had nothing to do with subtracting
- 2:02:50damage though. Yeah, if you subtract the
- 2:02:51damage, she liked it, like the fuck.
- 2:02:54Like like I was thinking you'd have to change how the armor
- 2:02:56system would work if you want to come.
- 2:02:58Okay, here's the thing. This is not even okay, ignoring
- 2:03:02the completely unrelated, the world need representation.
- 2:03:04What? Because that has I don't that
- 2:03:05has nothing to do with the first part.
- 2:03:08Just put can't look at the armor part.
- 2:03:11There are games that do this Star Wars.
- 2:03:13Does this. When you get hit you have a soak
- 2:03:16value, you're soaked value. You subtract from the damage you
- 2:03:19take I like kind of like Shields and Halo like yeah, dungeon
- 2:03:24World also does this whatever your armor is you subtract from
- 2:03:26the damage of take. Oh yeah.
- 2:03:28That's why weapons like Pierce exist.
- 2:03:30Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:03:30So like there are games that do it and yeah, in a lot of games
- 2:03:34it works good and that's fine. In some games that works some
- 2:03:39games, it doesn't some games, use it, some games.
- 2:03:41Don't. Yeah, I just, I still like what?
- 2:03:45Yeah, well, I mean, okay, bud, whatever, the thing that got me
- 2:03:48was the if you don't like it, like, Almost like these are
- 2:03:52changes are going to be made and you need to be on board with the
- 2:03:55third sentence. It seems like the you if you
- 2:03:58don't again the first two sentences, don't make any sense
- 2:04:01with the if you don't like it but like huh.
- 2:04:03Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you sort of have to like, because it's
- 2:04:08the conclusion you sort of have to read them in the context of
- 2:04:11them that being the context of because it makes no sense.
- 2:04:14The wind, does it change the hobbyist for everybody and
- 2:04:17everybody demands. You subtract armor from damn it?
- 2:04:20Like what? That's what I'm saying is like
- 2:04:22you know what the fuck are you talking about, bro?
- 2:04:24Yeah, that's sort of where I was at.
- 2:04:27It just doesn't make any goddamn sense.
- 2:04:30Just blowing smoke up. Al I gotta.
- 2:04:31Okay. The second one, this one's for
- 2:04:34you. Josh, you're so stupid.
- 2:04:37Honorable mention number two. Dragonborn I just kobolds for
- 2:04:41cowards Based is fuck absolutely base.
- 2:05:00That's fucking this to take it a century, fuck.
- 2:05:03Yeah dude I was like this I have like did Josh right this?
- 2:05:08I did it but I would have I love that one.
- 2:05:13I just Amazing. Yeah, my guy not a butt.
- 2:05:19It's not a whole lot to discuss. Is that would it just I'm not
- 2:05:22there? Just to base camp, say
- 2:05:23something. So bold yet.
- 2:05:24So troops to be a snake. I don't know.
- 2:05:25It's a our veteran number three there dice.
- 2:05:30They're not Shake Weights. You're trying to produce a
- 2:05:32random number not burn calories my answer.
- 2:05:35Fuck you. Let me clickety-clack my
- 2:05:37cleaning cloth, back with Mac math, math rocks.
- 2:05:41Let me click them and clamps. I fucking well, I'm a lamp.
- 2:05:44Whoa, man through My argument, my argument is porque Los Dos, I
- 2:05:50can burn calories. Maybe I wanted, maybe I'm
- 2:05:54practicing for the Jack. I'm going to have later.
- 2:05:56Like, you don't know me damn children, and it's that big of
- 2:05:59issue. Just get, get that player or
- 2:06:01diced. Our, I get him a diced.
- 2:06:02Our if you gotta be a whiny bitch about it, there's no, I
- 2:06:06feel there's to me dice. Towers are just like, no.
- 2:06:10Yeah. I'm you know, I don't think I
- 2:06:11will. I want to land on my damn self.
- 2:06:14No, I don't like them. Although they do in school, you
- 2:06:18can get really cool ones. Some of them do like cool.
- 2:06:20I disagree ones Empire chips. His mouth.
- 2:06:23Yeah, they look cool. But it's like if you got the
- 2:06:27Clickety Clacks, you got to clickety-clack MMM.
- 2:06:29Don't let something this is the AI aren't problem.
- 2:06:34That point, that at least get him a like, add ice tray or
- 2:06:37something. So, they can.
- 2:06:37We stroll in a particular Square.
- 2:06:39Oh yeah. Well, be the argument is just
- 2:06:41they don't want to hear the, the Judgment isn't ours.
- 2:06:43Are getting too hard when they're rolling them.
- 2:06:46Yeah, not fuck that. I would do it again.
- 2:06:48Now, I'm gonna do it even harder because of this person, your
- 2:06:50color have a random person on the internet.
- 2:06:52Yeah. Right.
- 2:06:54Fuck. How about dealing with it?
- 2:06:58Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 2:06:59Have you thought about just being like, I don't know.
- 2:07:03Maybe even shoot damn loud. How about that, huh?
- 2:07:05What am I gonna do with you chewing loudly smugly does this
- 2:07:08person probably does? I ain't even gonna lie.
- 2:07:15All right. Final one is a, this one gets
- 2:07:18me. So I pick up, six.
- 2:07:19It got me. Mad improvised weapons, should
- 2:07:22do. More damage than regular.
- 2:07:24What makes no logical sense. It doesn't make any fucking yes.
- 2:07:31This 2x4 should do more damage than a great mall.
- 2:07:34Yeah, yeah, yeah and I picked up the bowling pin.
- 2:07:37It's gotta do more damage in the fucking battle.
- 2:07:39At this, is this chair. I have way better than my battle
- 2:07:43axe. Yeah, to take should be
- 2:07:47improvised weapons, to do more damage than regular weapons to
- 2:07:50you. Yeah, this is art a glass I'm
- 2:07:53using it's not particularly if you go and doing well against
- 2:07:55this armored Knight but my hands are fucked mission accomplished.
- 2:08:00Yeah like I don't even What is this?
- 2:08:04Is the mean there's a meme. Take ya know, I this again I was
- 2:08:09much like, take number two, I sat there maulding, I would love
- 2:08:14to hear them. Genuinely try and argue that one
- 2:08:17eye bro, there were no fine, we'll find something to defend,
- 2:08:23I would just love to hear that argument.
- 2:08:26Josh Iron Golem this argument right now, you got it?
- 2:08:28Yeah. Improvised weapon won't On the
- 2:08:32spot. You got it.
- 2:08:44All right there 33. 20 seconds on the clock.
- 2:08:48Maybe they're trying to that. Pussy over there walking around
- 2:08:51with a great sword. Why would you want to do that?
- 2:08:52When I could just use anything? You see this chair, my weapon,
- 2:08:56you see this? This elderly gentleman my
- 2:08:58weapon. You see this dog?
- 2:09:00My weapon. The world is my weapon.
- 2:09:02You have to go to a shop and buy one bitch I can use anything.
- 2:09:05I can use this rock. In fact, I am going to use this
- 2:09:07rock. Oh no, the guard heard me.
- 2:09:10I don't know if that was much of an iron golem statement but you
- 2:09:13know, it was good pitch, I love you, love your guard, heard me.
- 2:09:16I don't know. Maybe, maybe what they were
- 2:09:19trying to just say is improvised weapons should be a little bit
- 2:09:22better. They should be better for sure.
- 2:09:25Maybe I just trying to get at he just they should do more damage.
- 2:09:30I just kissed her. I don't know.
- 2:09:31If you've ever looked at a baseball bat it's not
- 2:09:34particularly pointy. You can't you can't stab with a
- 2:09:37Batman you if You're strong enough.
- 2:09:39I'm sure you could figure it out.
- 2:09:41Don't even say, I forgot a night of stars, like d-10 base is that
- 2:09:46isn't like I improvised weapon base damage.
- 2:09:48I could do 10 though. He for he, for oh, what am I
- 2:09:52thinking? I have no idea.
- 2:09:53There's something in a DMG where that you'd like, here's some
- 2:09:56Ramen random damage if you don't know what to do, oh, that's
- 2:09:58that's improvising damage. If like something happens to
- 2:10:00your players that you feel like she do damage but there's no
- 2:10:04dice for it right now, you know, it actually handles this pretty
- 2:10:08well. Tell escapes because it has its
- 2:10:12improvised weapons are damaged out by weight.
- 2:10:15So something less than a pound as a D4.
- 2:10:18Something 1 pound 24 pounds, does a D6 and they have it for
- 2:10:23slashing and bludgeoning. I think six pounds to 10 pounds
- 2:10:27does ad8 or a d-10? And then I think it's sighs.
- 2:10:32I don't know. Yeah, I don't think anything
- 2:10:33does a D12 because asking someone to haul around something
- 2:10:35that weighs 20 pounds. It's just not fucking practical.
- 2:10:39Yeah, I think it goes up to a d-10 and it's all done by weight
- 2:10:41and I'm just like, yes. That makes sense.
- 2:10:44Yeah, you can, if you wanted to do fucking slap, Happy Jack, if
- 2:10:47there is some viability there for you.
- 2:10:55All right. That's all of them.
- 2:10:56That's it. That's me done.
- 2:10:57I'm done pasta roller coaster. We are off the roller coaster,
- 2:11:00finally. We didn't Gamers, I think which
- 2:11:09one which one was the worst one that made you the most mad?
- 2:11:13Probably no bitch. I've been number five, probably
- 2:11:17over 6. Then I was number 6, PC show.
- 2:11:20They know what the characters though?
- 2:11:23Yeah, probably that for me and I probably to its price.
- 2:11:28Probably three the, the should be called from your table.
- 2:11:31Just man arrogance. I just let me say though number
- 2:11:35two was fighting strong the whole way.
- 2:11:37Yeah, nope. That's fair.
- 2:11:39Goddamn. You know what?
