- 0:07Speaker 1: Everybody, You're very welcome into the latest episode of the
- 0:10Speaker 1: Irish Theaters podcast, presented by Erlingus Michael mcwady. Here a
- 0:15Speaker 1: week after I've been in Pittsburgh Guns. You know, I
- 0:18Speaker 1: feel like I was there five minutes ago.
- 0:19Speaker 2: That's how good.
- 0:20Speaker 1: That's how good that weekend was, even with how a
- 0:23Speaker 1: win against the Packers and since we last spoke, since
- 0:26Speaker 1: we last joined on the podcast, it's obviously been a
- 0:29Speaker 1: good weekend for the Staters, getting a win against what
- 0:32Speaker 1: was the seven and one. Later in the NFL Indianapolis
- 0:36Speaker 1: Colts twenty seven to twenty Colts fall to seven and two.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Steels now sitting at five or say a top of
- 0:44Speaker 1: the AFC North. We know how difficult that AFC North
- 0:47Speaker 1: Division is so at this stage heading in the week
- 0:49Speaker 1: ten as the NFL makes it's a final little trip
- 0:53Speaker 1: of ber Audumn Berlin of Madrid, It's good to see
- 0:55Speaker 1: the Steels still on top, with a good position to
- 0:57Speaker 1: be and ahead of these naxt few weeks of the season,
- 1:01Speaker 1: a big, big stretch coming up, obviously, with a very
- 1:03Speaker 1: very important game coming up this weekend against the LA Chargers.
- 1:08Speaker 1: A couple of check ins I wanted to do on
- 1:10Speaker 1: this week's podcast is to talk about the game for myself.
- 1:12Speaker 1: First off, actually nice to watch a game in the
- 1:16Speaker 1: early window for once. I think that's the only negative
- 1:19Speaker 1: thing I would say. But the season there's been so
- 1:21Speaker 1: many different league games and stuff, and just just good
- 1:23Speaker 1: to watch a game so early. And I have to
- 1:25Speaker 1: say from seeing how this team, I think, I think
- 1:30Speaker 1: we can't cut past it. You know, we did struggle
- 1:33Speaker 1: in the last two games, but we struggled offensively and
- 1:37Speaker 1: of course defensively apart from the run against the Packers.
- 1:40Speaker 1: And to see this team go out and not just
- 1:42Speaker 1: get a win, but certainly across the broad perspective of
- 1:47Speaker 1: the first second, the third quarter put a performance down.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Putting points on the board seventeen points scored in the
- 1:53Speaker 1: second quarter is a big, big deal. And to see
- 1:56Speaker 1: guys like Gale and Warren get two touchdowns on such
- 2:01Speaker 1: short amount of carries in terms of yards. But to
- 2:04Speaker 1: also see guys at Calvin Austin, guys that have been
- 2:07Speaker 1: to Ireland, the guys that know we are like really
- 2:09Speaker 1: getting there in his contract year, I think means an
- 2:12Speaker 1: awful lot. No activity from the Steelers on the trade deadline,
- 2:17Speaker 1: which I think I didn't really I don't really expect
- 2:20Speaker 1: much to happen, to be honest with I think if
- 2:22Speaker 1: we were going to improve team any further, you're looking
- 2:24Speaker 1: to get that extra wide out or an extra big
- 2:26Speaker 1: piece of the puzzle. But the one thing that I'll
- 2:28Speaker 1: take from the lack of activity on the trade deadline
- 2:30Speaker 1: is just how much Omar Khan, just how much Mike
- 2:35Speaker 1: Tomlin believes in the direction of this team and believes
- 2:37Speaker 1: in terms of what they have going forward for the
- 2:40Speaker 1: last step of this season. And I think it's important
- 2:42Speaker 1: as well not to make any rash decisions, not to
- 2:45Speaker 1: give up a lot of trade capital, especially when we're
- 2:48Speaker 1: bringing the draft to Pittsburgh next year.
- 2:51Speaker 2: So I'm very happy with where we are sitting.
- 2:54Speaker 1: We've obviously got a big few weeks ahead, and while
- 2:58Speaker 1: we have no trade deadline situation to talk, I think
- 3:00Speaker 1: we're in a good position. It was interesting for me
- 3:03Speaker 1: as good as the defense was to get a number
- 3:06Speaker 1: of different defensive stops, the first defensive stops from Dublin.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I think that really puts an energy on this defense
- 3:11Speaker 1: and it gives them the motivation that you could argue
- 3:15Speaker 1: that they need after what's been a couple of disappointing performances.
- 3:19Speaker 1: When you don't play well, it can be hard to
- 3:21Speaker 1: get yourself up, to get yourself motivated. And I think
- 3:23Speaker 1: it's very very important to see just how this team
- 3:27Speaker 1: have really progressed and how they have allowed themselves to
- 3:32Speaker 1: take that time, take that energy, and frankly, if you
- 3:34Speaker 1: think of how we were thinking going into this game,
- 3:37Speaker 1: I wasn't confident. I did not think we were going
- 3:39Speaker 1: to have a dominant game. I thought the Colts would
- 3:43Speaker 1: make it very difficult. We've known how much points the
- 3:45Speaker 1: Colts have put up on the board throughout the season.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And to see multiple defensive stops, to see strips, to
- 3:52Speaker 1: see Daniel Jones give up the ball at least three times,
- 3:55Speaker 1: to see different turnovers, I think that's very very positive
- 3:58Speaker 1: for all of us, regardless of some of the struggles
- 4:01Speaker 1: that we have had. It's so satisfying to see the
- 4:05Speaker 1: direction the strength that this team is taking. You know,
- 4:07Speaker 1: I look at how Wilson was there, I look at
- 4:10Speaker 1: how Joey Porter was there in front of his father,
- 4:12Speaker 1: and to see that anniversary of the Super Bowl winning
- 4:14Speaker 1: team there, How cool was that? Even if you're not
- 4:17Speaker 1: a Steelers fan, as an NFL fan, to see those
- 4:20Speaker 1: guys come in and to see these guys perform in
- 4:23Speaker 1: front of them, it really felt to me like a
- 4:26Speaker 1: page turning performance this week and long may that continue.
- 4:30Speaker 1: It was very very fun to see and very very
- 4:33Speaker 1: fun to actually watch from home. So look, we've obviously
- 4:37Speaker 1: got a big game coming up this weekend, and one
- 4:40Speaker 1: thing I did want to do, I wanted to chat
- 4:42Speaker 1: to Jimmy because while Jimmy is flying back to Ireland
- 4:47Speaker 1: for Pittsburgh, I know we had a great weekend out there,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and Jimmy, obviously there's a big win for the Steelers
- 4:51Speaker 1: of the weekend before that. What was it like getting
- 4:53Speaker 1: back to Pittsburgh. You're a lifelong Steelers fan. What was
- 4:57Speaker 1: the atmosphere like on game the.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Nick I'm sitting here in Pittsburgh International Airport waiting for
- 5:03Speaker 3: my flight home, just reflecting another incredible weekend in the
- 5:06Speaker 3: steel City. It's always a pleasure and always a privilege
- 5:10Speaker 3: to get over here for a Steelers home game and
- 5:12Speaker 3: to see them in action in Akroschuur Stadium. It never
- 5:16Speaker 3: really is. I mean, I think I must be the
- 5:17Speaker 3: Steelers lucky charm at this stage or something, because I'm
- 5:19Speaker 3: two for two in Akroschuur Stadium for Steelers' home games,
- 5:23Speaker 3: and just I mean, it's never really a bad time
- 5:26Speaker 3: in Pittsburgh if the fans are so passionate about the
- 5:28Speaker 3: Steelers that the atmosphere and for the build up to
- 5:31Speaker 3: the game outside and then in the stadium was incredible.
- 5:35Speaker 3: I still think I've said this a few times. I
- 5:36Speaker 3: still think the Dublin game has kind of ruined all
- 5:39Speaker 3: games for me moving forward because it was just so good.
- 5:43Speaker 3: But home games at Akroschuur Stadium are special when you
- 5:46Speaker 3: see the passion of you know, the passion of the fans.
- 5:49Speaker 3: They love their black and goal. So look, it really
- 5:53Speaker 3: was a fantastic day overall. Great weather as well, which
- 5:55Speaker 3: which always helps. It hasn't been a single drop of
- 5:57Speaker 3: rain here since we landed, so we'll definitely be back
- 6:01Speaker 3: in the future. And luckily we've got a good performance
- 6:04Speaker 3: as well, especially from the defense. Still, you know, a
- 6:07Speaker 3: few things to do on offense, I think a few
- 6:09Speaker 3: tweaks to make there, but defense stood uphen they were
- 6:12Speaker 3: needed and put on a a big show. So it's
- 6:16Speaker 3: a look. Can't follow the single thing really about the weekend.
- 6:20Speaker 1: What impressed you from the game and what would you
- 6:24Speaker 1: like to see tweaked going forward.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I think what impressed me most make about the Steelers'
- 6:29Speaker 3: performance this weekend was the defense. I know there have
- 6:31Speaker 3: been a lot of question marks around the unit given
- 6:34Speaker 3: their previous performances against the Bengals and then against the Packers.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Didn't have a single sack against the Packers and were
- 6:41Speaker 3: largely kind of non existent. I felt, especially the front seven,
- 6:45Speaker 3: some issues in the secondary as well with mistackles. But
- 6:50Speaker 3: you know, they completely turned that around against the Colts
- 6:53Speaker 3: on Sunday. Six turnovers in five sacks, the second most
- 6:57Speaker 3: turnovers under Mike Tomlin, which you know, just you know,
- 7:01Speaker 3: just kind of says a lot of them about their
- 7:03Speaker 3: mindset coming in. They knew they needed a big game.
- 7:06Speaker 3: They knew they had to put this team on their back,
- 7:08Speaker 3: especially with the high powered Couls offense coming into town.
- 7:12Speaker 3: You know, special shout out to to I think Peyton
- 7:16Speaker 3: Wilson and Joey Porter Junior in particular deserve special mention.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Joey Porter with his game ceiling intersection as the Colts
- 7:22Speaker 3: were attempting a comeback, and then Peyton Wilson had a
- 7:25Speaker 3: massive game as well with his own interception and then
- 7:28Speaker 3: a tip pass which Jack Sawyer picked off Brandon Echels
- 7:33Speaker 3: that that must pun for turn for a touchdown. I
- 7:35Speaker 3: don't know what the referees were thinking there. That was
- 7:37Speaker 3: a clear touchdown, but look, it wouldn't be. It wouldn't
- 7:40Speaker 3: be an NFL game with had a big missed call.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I think one thing though I would like to see
- 7:44Speaker 3: improved before we traveled to Los Angeles to take on
- 7:47Speaker 3: the Chargers, is we need more dynamicism and offense another
- 7:51Speaker 3: game without breaking one hundred yards. I think we barely
- 7:54Speaker 3: broke fifty yards on the ground rushing, and I do
- 7:57Speaker 3: think that we still are missing a second a true
- 8:01Speaker 3: number two wide receiver Calvin Austin obviously had a good game,
- 8:05Speaker 3: but I still think that we need some more kind
- 8:07Speaker 3: of offensive weapons that are not tight ends for Aaron
- 8:10Speaker 3: Rodgers to be able to go to when he doesn't
- 8:13Speaker 3: have path Ryermuth or DK Metcalf open.
- 8:16Speaker 1: What sort of keys of the game do you have
- 8:18Speaker 1: ahead of sundon nef fotball as we Jimmy to.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Me the three keys for this game against the Chargers.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Number one is getting in justin Herbert's face and getting
- 8:27Speaker 3: pressure on him. And the Chargers are now missing unfortunately
- 8:30Speaker 3: for them, their two starting tackles and Rushawn Slater and
- 8:33Speaker 3: Joe Olt.
- 8:34Speaker 2: So if we don't get multiple.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Pressures on him, I think it'll be very disappointing, and
- 8:39Speaker 3: I think the unit will be disappointed in themselves considering,
- 8:42Speaker 3: you know, the number of splash plays that we made
- 8:45Speaker 3: against the Colts in terms of takeaways and sacks and pressures.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Secondly, I think.
- 8:51Speaker 3: We have to get the running game going early. We
- 8:53Speaker 3: have to lean on the running game. I mean, we
- 8:54Speaker 3: can't have another game without one hundred yards rushing, especially
- 8:57Speaker 3: given the quality of backs that we do have in
- 9:01Speaker 3: Kenneth game well and in Genle and Warren, you know.
- 9:06Speaker 3: So I think we have to lean on the ground
- 9:08Speaker 3: game early. And of course, once you lean on the
- 9:11Speaker 3: ground game and get that movie that opens up the
- 9:13Speaker 3: passing game, we can get DK more involved. I'd like
- 9:15Speaker 3: to see him getting more targets and more touchdowns. And
- 9:19Speaker 3: I think second the offense just has to we have
- 9:21Speaker 3: to find that spark and offense. I mean, we've been
- 9:23Speaker 3: relying so much on our tight ends this year as
- 9:25Speaker 3: pass catchers, obviously because we don't have I suppose anybody
- 9:29Speaker 3: more reliable at the receiving course. So I'd like to
- 9:34Speaker 3: see a bit more firepower and offense. To be honest
- 9:36Speaker 3: with you, I know we scored twenty four points off
- 9:38Speaker 3: turnovers against the Colts, but I think offense. I think
- 9:41Speaker 3: the offense got away with a lot on Sunday because
- 9:44Speaker 3: the defense is playing so well. So I would like
- 9:46Speaker 3: to see our offense step up and to see more
- 9:49Speaker 3: explosive plays from Aaron Rodgers and those guys.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Thanks very much for joining me. And look, it's one
- 9:54Speaker 2: of those things.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Before I talk about my keys to the game, we'll
- 9:57Speaker 1: look ahead of this game against the Chargers on Sunday
- 9:59Speaker 1: Night Football. Let's hear first off from coach Tomlin in
- 10:02Speaker 1: his weekly press conference on the Irishooters podcast presented by Earnings. Uh.
- 10:07Speaker 4: The Los Angeles Chargers. I'll start first on their defensive side.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Got a lot of respect for Jesse Minnerman and his
- 10:16Speaker 4: strategic approach to the game. On that side, he does
- 10:19Speaker 4: an awesome job of minimizing big plays. He does an
- 10:24Speaker 4: awesome job of of moving Derwin James around. Derwin is
- 10:28Speaker 4: just he's distraught that stirs to drink for them.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Uh.
- 10:32Speaker 4: He plays safety in base He's capable of playing rundown nickel.
- 10:36Speaker 4: He's also capable of playing linebacker and passing circumstances. Minner
- 10:42Speaker 4: does an awesome job of of of of you know,
- 10:45Speaker 4: showing all of his talents in those ways.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Uh.
- 10:48Speaker 4: He's a good blitzer, he's a good tackler. His disguise,
- 10:53Speaker 4: his disguises are great. I think they do a nice
- 10:56Speaker 4: job with veterans in the secondary like Jefferson and Dante
- 11:00Speaker 4: Jackson and others who also have to be versatile as
- 11:04Speaker 4: he moves around, and I think oftentimes we don't talk
- 11:06Speaker 4: enough about that. If one person is moving around, it
- 11:09Speaker 4: generally creates challenges for others, and they seem to manage
- 11:14Speaker 4: all of that really really well. At the linebacker spot,
- 11:18Speaker 4: they got a nice blend of older and younger. Perryman
- 11:23Speaker 4: mixed up with Henley Man is a nice tandem. Perryman
- 11:27Speaker 4: has got really good instincts and experience. He's a good
- 11:29Speaker 4: rundown tackler. Henley is a challenge. He's a good athlete.
- 11:33Speaker 4: He's a sideline a sideline tackler former safety that can
- 11:37Speaker 4: see that in his game in terms of his ability
- 11:39Speaker 4: to cover grass and do some of the things that
- 11:41Speaker 4: could be challenging to other linebackers. He's also a really
- 11:45Speaker 4: good blitzer. That's a component of his game that looks
- 11:48Speaker 4: elevated in twenty twenty five relatives to twenty twenty four.
- 11:52Speaker 4: But it's a reasonable expectation to see a young talented
- 11:55Speaker 4: player evolve and evolve in certain areas of his game,
- 11:59Speaker 4: and certainly his blitz game is much more impactful watching
- 12:03Speaker 4: this year's tape than we were than when we were
- 12:05Speaker 4: getting ready to play him a year ago. Their edge
- 12:08Speaker 4: group is the group. They've got talent and depth in
- 12:12Speaker 4: that group. They play as many as four and five
- 12:15Speaker 4: guys along the edge. It's really impressive considering that you know,
- 12:19Speaker 4: Bosa is no longer a member of that group yet
- 12:22Speaker 4: and still is still their deepest and most talented position,
- 12:25Speaker 4: probably on either side of the ball. We got a
- 12:28Speaker 4: lot of people to get ready for their Khalil Max certainly,
- 12:32Speaker 4: former Defensive Player of the Year is one of worth mentioning.
- 12:35Speaker 4: And then Oway is an acquisition from the Ravens who
- 12:39Speaker 4: we have some familiar with certainly, and he's been a
- 12:42Speaker 4: big asset to him since his acquisition. I think he's
- 12:45Speaker 4: had four sacks or so in the last four games.
- 12:49Speaker 4: On the offensive side. Man, It certainly starts with Herbert.
- 12:53Speaker 4: For us, I feel like we caught a flyer a
- 12:56Speaker 4: year ago. He was limited from a mobility perspective when
- 12:59Speaker 4: we played him. I thought it impacted how the game unfolded,
- 13:04Speaker 4: and it allowed us to do some things schematically that
- 13:06Speaker 4: you somewhat hesitant to do if he has full mobility.
- 13:11Speaker 4: I think it nailed him down in the pocket some
- 13:14Speaker 4: and probably limited limited some of the things that they
- 13:16Speaker 4: choose to do schematically, like play action pass and changes
- 13:20Speaker 4: of the launch point, which is certainly a component of
- 13:22Speaker 4: Greg Roman's attack. It was minimized some last year, and
- 13:26Speaker 4: so as I watched tape this year, I'm cognizant of that.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Herbert is extremely talented. He can kill you with his arms.
- 13:33Speaker 4: He certainly can kill you with his legs. He can
- 13:35Speaker 4: kill you with both by by play extension. He has
- 13:39Speaker 4: a complete arsenal of people to throw to. Can't say
- 13:42Speaker 4: enough about their receiver corps. The reacquisition of Keenan Allen
- 13:47Speaker 4: is kind of a lynch pin man. He's a steady eddy.
- 13:50Speaker 4: He's been around Herbert in the past. You can tell
- 13:53Speaker 4: he's certainly a security blanket you you throw him in
- 13:56Speaker 4: with the emergence of Johnson and maconkey Man, they're they're
- 13:59Speaker 4: dangers group, and in recent weeks I'd be I'd probably
- 14:05Speaker 4: be wrong if I didn't mention the emergence of Gats
- 14:08Speaker 4: and the rookie tight end from Syracuse who's really put
- 14:13Speaker 4: together some big time games. His talent is showing. He's
- 14:17Speaker 4: a guy that's capable of some run after He's one
- 14:19Speaker 4: of those unique body types. He's almost an oversized receiver,
- 14:23Speaker 4: if you will. And so we certainly have our hands
- 14:26Speaker 4: full in these one dimensional passing moments, working to minimize
- 14:29Speaker 4: all those eligibles while at the same time respecting the
- 14:32Speaker 4: mobility component of Herbert. I've talked about all those things,
- 14:36Speaker 4: and I certainly hadn't mentioned the run game. And I
- 14:39Speaker 4: better when you're playing with Greg Roman offense, man, you
- 14:42Speaker 4: better be prepared to stand up against the run. They've
- 14:46Speaker 4: had some attrition in the backfield, but it hadn't slowed
- 14:49Speaker 4: down their growth and progress in that area. They drafted
- 14:54Speaker 4: the young runner from North Carolina and in round one,
- 14:57Speaker 4: certainly they acquired naj In free agency, both of those
- 15:02Speaker 4: guys are not available to them, but there's still been
- 15:04Speaker 4: an uptick in their run game, particularly in recent weeks,
- 15:07Speaker 4: is Vidal has found his rhythm. I think he's got
- 15:10Speaker 4: two hundred yard games in the last three weeks. Patterson
- 15:14Speaker 4: last week, in particular, is another young guy. I think
- 15:16Speaker 4: he had about fifty fifty yards rushing on eight or
- 15:19Speaker 4: nine carries, And so you know, there's no rest for
- 15:23Speaker 4: the weary. We got a big game versus a really
- 15:26Speaker 4: good team and their venue. One is talented offensively and
- 15:30Speaker 4: one is talented defensively and in special teams. And so
- 15:34Speaker 4: with that understanding, man were certainly preparing with an edge
- 15:37Speaker 4: this week, and we got some things to sort through
- 15:40Speaker 4: in terms of player availability. I expect that to clear
- 15:42Speaker 4: up as we push through the week and us to
- 15:45Speaker 4: be able to narrow our focus and position ourselves to
- 15:48Speaker 4: be our best.
- 15:49Speaker 1: It's always good to hear from coach tom I think
- 15:51Speaker 1: the thing that really impressed I mean but coach Tomlan
- 15:53Speaker 1: each week is to hear from him in terms of
- 15:56Speaker 1: how he breaks down not just the prior performance, but
- 15:59Speaker 1: how he breaks down in detail the opponent that he's
- 16:03Speaker 1: going to face. I don't even know where he finds
- 16:05Speaker 1: the time between Sunday and Shuesday to get into the
- 16:10Speaker 1: Ax's nose in this detail, and it's so so impressive,
- 16:13Speaker 1: and it's always great to hear from him. Before I
- 16:15Speaker 1: give my keys to the game and look ahead to
- 16:16Speaker 1: this week's game, let's hear from Aaron Rodgers, who was
- 16:19Speaker 1: on the podium in Wednesday in Pittsburgh. I had of
- 16:22Speaker 1: this Sunday night football game against the LA Chargers on
- 16:25Speaker 1: the Irish Theaters podcast presented by Erlingus.
- 16:29Speaker 2: And you talked about feeding off things after the last game.
- 16:32Speaker 4: What were the things you got yet time to go
- 16:33Speaker 4: overfilm that you could do cleaner?
- 16:35Speaker 2: That would make you, guys speak more complete offense?
- 16:36Speaker 1: You good?
- 16:38Speaker 5: Just the details I think could be some of the
- 16:41Speaker 5: really all the players run game, passing game, just a
- 16:45Speaker 5: little things like that. He's the next step from the sager.
- 16:49Speaker 5: I mean, you, guys, we've gone really well in the
- 16:51Speaker 5: reds also the things really well, but then you a
- 16:55Speaker 5: lot of green outs. What's the next step for you guys?
- 16:57Speaker 2: Speak on the better offers.
- 16:59Speaker 5: This consistency with the details, Eric, what could you do
- 17:03Speaker 5: to help MBS kind of pick this up quickly? Well?
- 17:06Speaker 5: I can translate, you know, the offense we ran in
- 17:10Speaker 5: Green Bay for a number of years into this offense
- 17:13Speaker 5: for him on a smart guy. He's played a lot
- 17:17Speaker 5: of football, been around a long time, been productive, so
- 17:21Speaker 5: I'm sure we'll pick it up pretty quick. What kind
- 17:23Speaker 5: of challenge is Derwin James brings the safety at different
- 17:25Speaker 5: levels that he plays in that hes yeah, I mean
- 17:27Speaker 5: he plays high safety, the I feel safety, the quarter safety,
- 17:32Speaker 5: the big nickel or a dime linebacker. You can do
- 17:36Speaker 5: it all. I mean, he's one of the top players
- 17:37Speaker 5: in the league, and you can do it at multiple positions.
- 17:40Speaker 5: He can blitz, you can cover, you can tackle. I
- 17:42Speaker 5: mean he's one of the more impressive players you see
- 17:44Speaker 5: on film.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Aaron, how have you seen the receivers kind of handle
- 17:47Speaker 4: all the outside noise adding a guy or needing a guy?
- 17:50Speaker 2: And how have you seen the breass a lead?
- 17:53Speaker 5: I mean that was just yesterday, so I'm not sure.
- 17:55Speaker 5: I haven't heard of peep about any of it. So
- 17:58Speaker 5: not sure.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Were you holding your breath all at the trade up
- 18:01Speaker 3: one yesterday hoping that there would be a move?
- 18:03Speaker 2: See anybody else brought in?
- 18:05Speaker 5: You know what I've learned about the trading deadline is
- 18:07Speaker 5: and there's a lot of conversation and rarely is there
- 18:11Speaker 5: a lot of action. Maybe a little bit more of
- 18:12Speaker 5: the last few years, but in my early days there
- 18:15Speaker 5: was hardly ever any roster moves at the deadline. There
- 18:18Speaker 5: were some big ones yesterday, but you know, you feel
- 18:22Speaker 5: pretty good about your guys, and we added Marquest to
- 18:26Speaker 5: the Peace Squad. We've found guys on the Peace Squad
- 18:28Speaker 5: who've been playing for US. Obviously, Keishaan got elevated and
- 18:32Speaker 5: been doing a nice shot for US. Max has done
- 18:34Speaker 5: really good all year, Isaiah has done good. So we've
- 18:37Speaker 5: had guys in the Peace Squad step of every single
- 18:39Speaker 5: week and play and there'll be no difference this week here.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Know that does the versatility have the tight ends to
- 18:44Speaker 5: also maybe make it not as urgent a need to
- 18:46Speaker 5: find whatever people define as number two? Yeah, I mean
- 18:51Speaker 5: that's a lot of outside talk. You got to look
- 18:52Speaker 5: at the way we're playing and the personnel groupings that
- 18:55Speaker 5: we like. You know, we're a multiple personnel team. We
- 19:01Speaker 5: were a lot of guys out there. We had an
- 19:03Speaker 5: offensive lineman played a lot of snaps obviously, Darnella plays
- 19:05Speaker 5: a lot of snaps, and Johnny mcpatt and Connor gets
- 19:08Speaker 5: in there on some plays, rotating three different backs, a
- 19:12Speaker 5: lot of different receivers, so we're not a big three
- 19:15Speaker 5: receiver team in general. And you know, Calvin's come back
- 19:19Speaker 5: and played really well for US. Roman's been more consistent,
- 19:23Speaker 5: So there was probably more noise outside of the facility
- 19:27Speaker 5: than maybe inside of facility.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Great to hear from Arn Rodgers on the Irish Theaters
- 19:33Speaker 1: podcast prevented by Erling.
- 19:35Speaker 2: I think the reality is when you're going up.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Against the Chargers team that is actually losing their two
- 19:42Speaker 1: starting tackles. Joe Walt is out for the season of
- 19:44Speaker 1: an injury, and they've tried to actually bring in a guy.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I've brought in Trevor Penning after the three deadline, and
- 19:50Speaker 1: this is via one of the wait until lists actually
- 19:52Speaker 1: happening to talk about it. But to see Trevor Penning
- 19:55Speaker 1: coming as interesting. He hasn't lived up to the high, high,
- 19:59Speaker 1: high aspect that I have certainly had for him. But
- 20:02Speaker 1: he is a very regular player, and you know Penny
- 20:04Speaker 1: is really going to get to the test when they
- 20:06Speaker 1: go up against the Steelers this weekend. There's no doubt
- 20:09Speaker 1: about it. You know, this is this is in a
- 20:12Speaker 1: way a game for the Steelers. They're on the road again,
- 20:14Speaker 1: They're going out to the West Coast when you're in
- 20:17Speaker 1: Sunday night football and when you are up against it
- 20:21Speaker 1: and when you are expected to put a performance in,
- 20:24Speaker 1: especially after beating the team they got, Colts team. You know,
- 20:26Speaker 1: I'm going to be interested to see, first off, how
- 20:28Speaker 1: that Colts team rebinds and regroups. I'm going to see
- 20:31Speaker 1: them in person this weekend in Berlin. Have the Steelers
- 20:34Speaker 1: changed their fortune in terms of how the Colts will play?
- 20:37Speaker 1: Have they brought their confidence down a bit? And that's
- 20:39Speaker 1: a valid conversation on this podcast. Why because the way
- 20:42Speaker 1: the Steelers are playing now, you know they're looking to
- 20:44Speaker 1: playoff football here and you know, touch with We hope
- 20:48Speaker 1: that happens, and we hope that continues down for the
- 20:50Speaker 1: next few weeks. But if we were to face the
- 20:52Speaker 1: Colts again in the playoffs, we have seen that we
- 20:55Speaker 1: can get at that team. So it'll be interesting to
- 20:57Speaker 1: see how they picked themselves up when they go to
- 21:00Speaker 1: Butlin this weekend. I really and I say it most
- 21:02Speaker 1: weeks now, but I really really do mean it.
- 21:04Speaker 2: This weekend.
- 21:05Speaker 1: You know, this could be a massive game for our
- 21:08Speaker 1: past rush r TG at WAD. He gets to go
- 21:10Speaker 1: up against an offensive line which is not just struggling
- 21:13Speaker 1: in terms of the availability.
- 21:14Speaker 2: That they have.
- 21:15Speaker 1: But they have allowed the highest pressure with in the
- 21:17Speaker 1: league so far this year.
- 21:19Speaker 2: That's not good.
- 21:20Speaker 1: And what is five sacks, six tackles, two force fumbles,
- 21:24Speaker 1: and an interception along with four past deflections this season.
- 21:29Speaker 1: You know this is an issue for the Chargers and
- 21:33Speaker 1: they're already allowing the highest pressure we have per dropback
- 21:36Speaker 1: at twenty six point five percent. And it's going to
- 21:39Speaker 1: be on our defense to create pressure in Justin Herbert
- 21:42Speaker 1: and that is going to be the key to this
- 21:44Speaker 1: game for me. I think another key factor is and
- 21:47Speaker 1: I think when you look at accountability and when you
- 21:49Speaker 1: talk about how this team wants to improve, want to
- 21:53Speaker 1: get better. Yes, we won the game last week, but
- 21:57Speaker 1: when you hear a guy like Aaron Rodgers out and
- 22:00Speaker 1: publicly say that not just him, but the entire team
- 22:04Speaker 1: needs to do better. The offense needs to do better.
- 22:06Speaker 1: At first off, he's correct. The offense does need to
- 22:09Speaker 1: do better. We need to get more passing yards, we
- 22:11Speaker 1: need to run the ball more, and we need to
- 22:13Speaker 1: find a way to get out of it. Because the
- 22:14Speaker 1: one thing for all we can say with the Chargers
- 22:16Speaker 1: having difficulty on that offensive line. We know that they're
- 22:20Speaker 1: going to find ways to get points up on the board.
- 22:22Speaker 1: We know how good Justin Herbert is. We know the
- 22:24Speaker 1: weapons that he has with him, but we have weapons
- 22:27Speaker 1: as well. If you look at the whiteouts that we have,
- 22:29Speaker 1: if you look at how Washington has commitm with a
- 22:31Speaker 1: tight end situation, we know big Friar move can make plays.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I expect to see a full on, big battle on
- 22:37Speaker 1: Sunday Night football. And I'll leave you with this nice
- 22:40Speaker 1: little nugget. I expect the Steelers to win this game,
- 22:44Speaker 1: but I expect to see an improved offensive performance and
- 22:47Speaker 1: performance where we put up upwards of thirty points against
- 22:51Speaker 1: the Chargers, which is a big bull statement to make.
- 22:54Speaker 2: But I can really really see.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers this week go out in prime time and
- 22:59Speaker 1: get to that next level.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I have no doubt about it.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Because with every week you heard him in the press
- 23:02Speaker 1: conference on this podcast, with every week they're getting better,
- 23:05Speaker 1: where every week he's getting more settled and at the
- 23:07Speaker 1: end of the day, you have reset a lot of
- 23:09Speaker 1: the factors of this team. And for him to come in,
- 23:12Speaker 1: get to week ten and get to the situation, what
- 23:15Speaker 1: a prime performance this could be for him. Really really
- 23:18Speaker 1: excited to see how this Steaeters team can play this weekend.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm going to say the Steels win thirty to twenty
- 23:23Speaker 1: seven in a whispered classic in Sunday Night Football. You
- 23:28Speaker 1: got to love when the eyes of not just the US,
- 23:30Speaker 1: but the eyes of the world are on your team
- 23:33Speaker 1: in Sunday Night Football.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Bring it on. I can't wait to see it, folks.
- 23:37Speaker 2: From me.
- 23:38Speaker 1: In terms of that there, we're going to have a
- 23:39Speaker 1: bit of a reaction podcast later on on the Monday
- 23:42Speaker 1: or Tuesday after this year, we would love to hear
- 23:44Speaker 1: from you. You can use the hashtag Steeters Ireland. The
- 23:47Speaker 1: Jackets out in different forms of social media such as
- 23:50Speaker 1: x and also Instagram. If you use the hashtag Steers
- 23:53Speaker 1: Ireland or well, if you want to reach out to
- 23:54Speaker 1: me and let me know how you feel the team
- 23:56Speaker 1: is doing, we would love to have you on.
- 23:58Speaker 2: So do let me know and we'd love to make
- 24:00Speaker 2: that happen. Four.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Now, just to reminder before we go, because of Sunday
- 24:04Speaker 1: Night Football, you don't just have to watch this game
- 24:07Speaker 1: on NFL Game Pass on the Zone in Ireland or
- 24:09Speaker 1: the UK or Europe. But if you're in Ireland you
- 24:12Speaker 1: can watch the game on Sky Sports NFL this Sunday night,
- 24:15Speaker 1: and if you're somehow in the car, maybe you're driving
- 24:18Speaker 1: back from Berlin on Sunday night late, you can listen
- 24:21Speaker 1: to the game as well on the OTB Sports app.
- 24:23Speaker 1: But from now for Michael mcgidd on the Irishuders podcast,
- 24:26Speaker 1: we have been delighted to chat a little bit of
- 24:28Speaker 1: football and we hope that you enjoy this week because
- 24:31Speaker 1: if you think about it, we haven't got that many
- 24:33Speaker 1: weeks left, especially when we get into these autumn months.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Enjoy the game, folks.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Hopefully next week we're talking about a big dub in LA.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Thanks for now
