- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on artists.
- 0:07Speaker 1: This week we go into the vault. That's right, We're
- 0:09Speaker 1: going to the twenty twelves and we're talking to Billboard artists.
- 0:13Speaker 2: These artists of twenty twelve were a very specific genre.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Some call it hey folk, some call it indie pop.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Whatever it was, it was loud, it was curious, it
- 0:23Speaker 2: was interesting, it was twee, and it was cute, and
- 0:26Speaker 2: it was all the rage.
- 0:28Speaker 3: That's right.
- 0:28Speaker 4: The Obama administration was in full swing, and so were
- 0:32Speaker 4: the ukuleles in the hands of many acoustic, laid back,
- 0:37Speaker 4: somewhat almost Christian coded people in Los Angeles and beyond.
- 0:43Speaker 4: This episode takes a look into their inner lives.
- 0:46Speaker 3: So sit back, relax, bringing out that acoustic guitar and
- 0:51Speaker 3: soft drum, because today we're sitting with the top indie
- 0:55Speaker 3: artists of twenty twelve. Let's listen in.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Hey, hey, hey, how is everybody?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Vibes in here are awesome.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I'm loving these vibes. I'm loving these.
- 1:15Speaker 1: God, I love all of your guys' albums and your records.
- 1:18Speaker 1: This is awesome.
- 1:20Speaker 4: It's amazing, and I'm just like, I was such a mess.
- 1:23Speaker 4: This morning, and like, I literally like I put on
- 1:28Speaker 4: two mismatched socks and so I'm feeling like a little.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Crazy because one striped and one solid.
- 1:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so cute. That's so sweet. Yeah, that's hilarious.
- 1:38Speaker 4: I'm all over the place. But it's so great to
- 1:40Speaker 4: be with.
- 1:40Speaker 2: We were out late last night, right, we were out
- 1:43Speaker 2: doing our our Capitol Records party. I saw y'all there,
- 1:47Speaker 2: a couple. Yeah, I think we're all out there smoking
- 1:52Speaker 2: clothes together looking up at it, saying that looks like
- 1:54Speaker 2: a stack of oreos tower.
- 1:57Speaker 4: That's so funny. You should put that on m l
- 1:59Speaker 4: I A.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah, m l I A.
- 2:02Speaker 4: My life is average?
- 2:03Speaker 2: Oh yeah, well, am I throwing up on my life
- 2:06Speaker 2: or text from last night?
- 2:07Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:08Speaker 4: If you reform out it, you could also do a
- 2:10Speaker 4: deer blank sincerely blank.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, well maybe I'll just throw it on a
- 2:13Speaker 2: postcard and send it into post secrets.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Fun.
- 2:20Speaker 4: That's so true.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Man, the vibes are here. Can I get a hate? Hey? Hell?
- 2:25Speaker 2: Can I get a hope? Can I get a hey?
- 2:27Speaker 6: Ho?
- 2:27Speaker 3: Hey ho?
- 2:28Speaker 2: Wow? And I'm going to use that in a song.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Can we do a little.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Guys? That felt good?
- 2:40Speaker 5: That's good.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Just a.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Citizen for the day, you know, just to lock us
- 2:47Speaker 3: in and citizen for the day.
- 2:48Speaker 1: God, I'm a little starstruck looking at you.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Come on stop, Okay, thanks. Well, I'm also so starstruck
- 2:55Speaker 3: looking at you guys and your beautiful poetry and your
- 2:57Speaker 3: beautiful words. I'm such big fans of each every one
- 3:00Speaker 3: of you. You guys really changed the face of what
- 3:03Speaker 3: I would call is acoustic indie pop. It's something that
- 3:07Speaker 3: you know, I've been doing for you know, ten years now.
- 3:10Speaker 3: I was a little bit on the forefront, and I'm
- 3:11Speaker 3: so glad that the music has kind of followed in
- 3:14Speaker 3: that path.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Well, tell everyone who you are. I mean, we know,
- 3:17Speaker 2: but we might.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Come on, come on, okay, okay, Well my name is
- 3:22Speaker 3: Orion Wells. I'm in a little band called She Died
- 3:26Speaker 3: in a Taxi. And yeah, we've been on the scene
- 3:30Speaker 3: for quite a while now, and I've just I love music,
- 3:33Speaker 3: I love poetry, I love art. I feel like it
- 3:36Speaker 3: gives people a reason to live and a reason to love.
- 3:43Speaker 3: And so I'm so happy that we got to headline
- 3:46Speaker 3: this festival coming up, the twenty twelve Pop like you
- 3:50Speaker 3: mean it. It's gonna be brought.
- 3:52Speaker 2: To you by So you shout out Bill, won't shout
- 3:55Speaker 2: out Zuomies.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Yeah. So yeah, that's a little bit about me. I
- 3:59Speaker 3: we We've are released about four albums now our second
- 4:02Speaker 3: album when triple platinum, which is so exciting. And my
- 4:05Speaker 3: side project, The FedEx is a passion project and I'm
- 4:10Speaker 3: so happy that people could find my music through that.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I love the FedEx. That is a band comprised entirely
- 4:16Speaker 2: of people that met because they were delivery drivers from FedEx.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Right, So basically it's a side project. It's me and
- 4:23Speaker 3: fourteen DJs, all of which used to be FedEx drivers.
- 4:26Speaker 3: It's a blast.
- 4:28Speaker 4: You're the when you guys played, because I think you
- 4:32Speaker 4: guys got me unto the I saw. I saw you
- 4:33Speaker 4: guys at the Hollywood Bowl. You take up the stage,
- 4:38Speaker 4: it's so many of you.
- 4:39Speaker 3: There's a lot of us, and each of those DJs
- 4:41Speaker 3: have their own have their own equipment, and so it's
- 4:43Speaker 3: a lot of DJs and a lot of equipment and
- 4:46Speaker 3: just me singing up there. It's fantastic. But of course
- 4:48Speaker 3: we have guests come.
- 4:49Speaker 2: In and your song, man, your song I'm Up Too Tall,
- 4:54Speaker 2: It's one of my favorite songs.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Hey, thank you so much.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it's awesome, man, it's really Do you want to
- 4:58Speaker 2: hear first second? Yeah? Please, I want to hear. Ok.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I brought a little excerpt of it, if.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Of course exert you gotta be listening to our music.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Man, And I'm up too tall. You are so small
- 5:12Speaker 3: in my.
- 5:13Speaker 7: Eye because our irises meet like puzz or pieces thrown
- 5:20Speaker 7: into the sea, the ocean of waves, and I find
- 5:24Speaker 7: you there with your brown hair and your seaweed dress.
- 5:29Speaker 7: It makes the best impression for me on a Sunday morning.
- 5:38Speaker 1: My favorite line is you and your seaweed dress make
- 5:41Speaker 1: that impression on me.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I feel like I'm watching the sun rise at running
- 5:44Speaker 2: right now. That is so beautiful. Thank you, thank you
- 5:47Speaker 2: so much, so beautiful.
- 5:48Speaker 3: It was inspired by a woman I met and we
- 5:51Speaker 3: had about a week of love and oh then she
- 5:54Speaker 3: had to move back to San Francisco.
- 5:56Speaker 6: Low.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I recognize, short story, but full of love.
- 6:00Speaker 3: So that's me. You guys, go ahead, please introduce yourselves.
- 6:02Speaker 3: I'm so excited to keep going around sharing the love.
- 6:05Speaker 6: Well.
- 6:07Speaker 4: I'm Marissa Mooney and I was a part of the
- 6:13Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I'm so distracted. My dress as pockets, uh
- 6:17Speaker 4: so me. I was part of this band uh me
- 6:21Speaker 4: and my my good friend Tim, and we were called
- 6:26Speaker 4: uh she major he minor, and we would do a
- 6:29Speaker 4: lot of you duos and we came up on YouTube.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Actually we're one of those, like, uh first people to
- 6:36Speaker 4: use the YouTube space to like launch us. And we
- 6:39Speaker 4: got to play Coachella. Our name was not big print,
- 6:41Speaker 4: but we were there. And so lately we've been doing
- 6:46Speaker 4: some solo stuff. We've been doing some solo stuff and
- 6:49Speaker 4: so that's been fun. And I love you know, I
- 6:53Speaker 4: love I love posting YouTube covers of like I don't know,
- 6:56Speaker 4: I you guys probably I don't know if you. I
- 6:58Speaker 4: don't want to assume you've seen them, but ukulele covers
- 7:01Speaker 4: of like a lot of like Kanye West songs and stuff.
- 7:04Speaker 3: I love soft covers of women singing rap songs.
- 7:08Speaker 2: That is my number one thing right now and no one's.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Done it yet.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I also want to say, you're the first one
- 7:14Speaker 3: to do it.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I know, I know what I'm about to say is
- 7:16Speaker 1: like absolutely bonkers. What I'm gonna say it. Yeah, your guys'
- 7:19Speaker 1: cover of baby It's Cold Outside is my number one
- 7:22Speaker 1: Baby It's Cold Outside.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Thank you, Thank you, so much and we had so
- 7:26Speaker 4: much fun with it. We were literally just messing around
- 7:28Speaker 4: one Christmas and like put it up and we're like,
- 7:31Speaker 4: what if we do that?
- 7:31Speaker 2: Can I ask you something? Because I'm kind of an
- 7:33Speaker 2: audio file, pick up different noises you can hear from
- 7:36Speaker 2: my music. I liked interesting sounds that Morocca was a
- 7:41Speaker 2: container of graded parmesan.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Right, yeah, exactly. Yeah, we use we like to use
- 7:46Speaker 4: different items in our kitchen. Yeah, and we'll do I
- 7:50Speaker 4: think we were able to we well, we started. I
- 7:53Speaker 4: think Instagram lets you do videos now does it?
- 7:56Speaker 2: Does it?
- 7:57Speaker 5: Does it?
- 7:57Speaker 3: Tried to put so I don't think so yet.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Then what have I been posting on?
- 8:03Speaker 2: Probably probably I've seen all your stuff.
- 8:08Speaker 4: We use different items we have in our kitchen, and uh,
- 8:11Speaker 4: we sort of like spatulas together for drums. We try
- 8:14Speaker 4: and use just like found objects in funny ways. And
- 8:17Speaker 4: we'll we'll we'll do each video of a different instrument
- 8:22Speaker 4: in the mix and so it's like sixteen squares on
- 8:24Speaker 4: the video.
- 8:25Speaker 3: It's so smart. It's such a good way to capture
- 8:27Speaker 3: your audience.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Oh, I think I saw you guys on musically, Yeah, that.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Probably fine.
- 8:36Speaker 4: We a little probetic it's okay, it's okay. You no,
- 8:40Speaker 4: you see the future. Yeah, we do some vines where
- 8:44Speaker 4: I like pop out and say something crazy and then
- 8:47Speaker 4: I pop back in, kind of how all vines are.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I never really thought that all vines are someone
- 8:57Speaker 1: popping out and popping back in.
- 8:58Speaker 4: It really, like, that's all you have time for.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Your dress as pocket?
- 9:03Speaker 4: My dress hosed pockets. I know you have to get
- 9:06Speaker 4: it's from.
- 9:07Speaker 1: It's from Paccent, But what would you put in the pockets?
- 9:09Speaker 1: Like girls don't hold keys.
- 9:11Speaker 4: That's what's so interesting is I keep finding objects on
- 9:14Speaker 4: the ground, like things that are like quirky and cool
- 9:17Speaker 4: to me, and I put them in the pockets. It's
- 9:18Speaker 4: so because I lose everything and I'm such a mess
- 9:21Speaker 4: that I keep like I'm on f mL literally every
- 9:25Speaker 4: day posting about how I'm losing things. My dresses don't
- 9:28Speaker 4: have pockets.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Can I ask you a question too? I noticed you
- 9:31Speaker 2: got a little tattoo on your finger? Is that a
- 9:33Speaker 2: go tea?
- 9:38Speaker 3: And I go tell you later it's a mustache. And
- 9:44Speaker 3: and I see a bacon tattoo. Is that a little
- 9:46Speaker 3: bacon tattoo?
- 9:47Speaker 4: You bacon my elbow?
- 9:49Speaker 3: This is disgusting bacon, bacon my elbows. Can I say
- 9:54Speaker 3: I don't bacon.
- 9:59Speaker 2: If I jamaicing me crazy? But it's ja bacon my elbows.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Bacon, my you're making me elbow.
- 10:06Speaker 1: You're making my elbow, making me crazy, making me crazy,
- 10:10Speaker 1: you're making me crazy. If we took out the weird play,
- 10:13Speaker 1: what is it? It's no, no, I know it's word play,
- 10:17Speaker 1: but what is elbow?
- 10:18Speaker 2: Can you listen to me? Ja bacon my elbow? Does
- 10:22Speaker 2: that make sense?
- 10:23Speaker 3: Bacon you're baking my elbow?
- 10:25Speaker 4: Well, well no, it's so it's like Jamaican me crazy.
- 10:30Speaker 1: You're making the elbow.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Well, jam bacon.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I genuinely need to figure this out. Okay, Jam bacon
- 10:38Speaker 1: me crazy? Is a playoff of you're making me yeah,
- 10:42Speaker 1: place with Jamaican?
- 10:43Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:44Speaker 1: What is elbow replacing crazy?
- 10:47Speaker 2: Jabacon my elbow?
- 10:49Speaker 3: Ja bacon my elmo? Oh, it's replacing elmo. Al It's
- 10:54Speaker 3: like it's you're making my elmo is obviously a classic phrase.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I think it's I think it's maybe a take on two.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Tickle me elmo, bacon my elbow.
- 11:03Speaker 4: So it's like five things, right, It's.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Awkward sauce, It's awkward sauce and it's random. Let's just
- 11:09Speaker 3: keep going. I think are immaculate.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Are immaculate?
- 11:12Speaker 1: All right, Sorr?
- 11:13Speaker 3: I have a way of like.
- 11:15Speaker 2: All good. I mean, we know you're from your music.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Love you so much, you.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Guys, Uh, what's up? I'm Canvas Sabrina, and I am
- 11:26Speaker 1: so grateful to be here today. It's weird, I will say,
- 11:29Speaker 1: it's weird being here without my boys. I'm one girl
- 11:33Speaker 1: and there are eight men, and we we make up
- 11:36Speaker 1: a little band I like to call the Earth, and
- 11:40Speaker 1: we have been playing together for a couple of years.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Now you just really start second record. It's really awesome.
- 11:46Speaker 1: And what we do is we all play the guitar,
- 11:50Speaker 1: the one guitar, So I'm usually in the middle and
- 11:55Speaker 1: Ratt has the neck Seth has the middle of the neck,
- 12:00Speaker 1: Brandon has the bottom of the neck. Josh is just
- 12:04Speaker 1: always next to me doing like the lower third. Next
- 12:07Speaker 1: to him is Malcolm. Malcolm is hitting the top of
- 12:11Speaker 1: the guitar like a cahone, so he grew up playing cohones.
- 12:14Speaker 1: His mom actually made the cohone. And then next to
- 12:17Speaker 1: Malcolm it is Danny, and Danny is usually like hitting
- 12:22Speaker 1: the ground with his foot. He wears Timberlands and that
- 12:28Speaker 1: makes up the Earth.
- 12:29Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 12:31Speaker 2: I first saw you guys on YouTube when you did
- 12:33Speaker 2: that cover where you use the one guitar twelve ways
- 12:37Speaker 2: to do an amazing rendition of the Kim Possible theme song.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Thank you so much. Yeah, what we what we do
- 12:43Speaker 1: is we do have our own records and we do
- 12:44Speaker 1: our own songs. But yeah, we love to cover cartoons
- 12:48Speaker 1: just because like that's what we what what's what makes
- 12:51Speaker 1: the Earth earth? I'd say is we do have some
- 12:55Speaker 1: videos that we post on Tumblr of us in the
- 12:58Speaker 1: in the tour bus just being like kind of crazy
- 13:01Speaker 1: and random.
- 13:02Speaker 4: And I love, like, I really appreciate your message and
- 13:05Speaker 4: how you sort of slid it in there because you
- 13:07Speaker 4: force like like people who are fans of yours were
- 13:10Speaker 4: yours to say I love the Earth, to say I
- 13:13Speaker 4: love the Earth. I'm a fan of the Earth.
- 13:16Speaker 3: So progressive.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Thank you so much. And that that I have to
- 13:19Speaker 1: give credit to Scott, who's actually behind me when I'm
- 13:22Speaker 1: in the guitar. People don't realize there's like eight of
- 13:24Speaker 1: us here and then there's like a bunch of us
- 13:25Speaker 1: behind Scott's behind me while we're performing on the computer
- 13:29Speaker 1: doing like marketing and stuff.
- 13:31Speaker 4: He has like a he's doing admin while you're on stage. Yeah,
- 13:34Speaker 4: so we're like, oh my god, I didn't even realize.
- 13:36Speaker 1: And our agent is behind us. So we're that truly
- 13:39Speaker 1: like you could just like move us around. We're a
- 13:42Speaker 1: one stop shop and our merch corner is on the
- 13:44Speaker 1: other end.
- 13:45Speaker 3: You do such good covers of like Disney songs too.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I feel like you give it kind of like a
- 13:50Speaker 3: pop punk vibe, which is like a little different from
- 13:53Speaker 3: like kind of what a lot of us are doing.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of us are racing church.
- 13:57Speaker 6: So we did.
- 13:58Speaker 1: We were like on the tour bus and we were
- 13:59Speaker 1: like talking about how insane That's a Raven was. It
- 14:02Speaker 1: was such a funny show. So we took That's a
- 14:04Speaker 1: Raven and we mixed it with Amazing Grace?
- 14:09Speaker 2: Can you do that?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Can you play?
- 14:11Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know how to make music without
- 14:13Speaker 1: an army of men behind me, but I can drive
- 14:17Speaker 1: amazing Grace? How sweet? Hold on one second. Sorry, I'm
- 14:25Speaker 1: just so nervous to this myself.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Like your main vocals are so.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Oh no, thank you? Yeah, stripped down? It is pretty
- 14:32Speaker 1: crazy without like anything here, we amazing Grace? How Sweet?
- 14:37Speaker 6: Thighs so an.
- 14:40Speaker 1: It's the grace that I can sweet. That's so, it's
- 14:44Speaker 1: so grace.
- 14:47Speaker 3: In love.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Not like it got like a million views. It literally
- 14:52Speaker 4: broke me.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And that one broke the internet because on the corner
- 14:55Speaker 1: of the guitar, Grant and Connor both had one finger
- 15:00Speaker 1: at a time, and that is like I guess in
- 15:02Speaker 1: the guitar community, it kind of blew up.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's amazing, how like and you guys are
- 15:08Speaker 4: you're such a good example of this, Like when you
- 15:11Speaker 4: get a million views, everything changes, like because you went
- 15:15Speaker 4: to Ellen first before you started.
- 15:18Speaker 2: She's so funny. I love Ellen.
- 15:19Speaker 3: She is such a hoot and hollers great and she's like.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Maybe my favorite comics spread a little love today. You
- 15:25Speaker 1: know she dances.
- 15:27Speaker 4: It's like but you can tell she's like nice, she's
- 15:30Speaker 4: gonna she's so.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Crazy. Like we put that thing out and then a
- 15:35Speaker 1: month later gets a million views. Two months later we
- 15:38Speaker 1: got invited to be on Ellen and then good Morning America.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Rush. Things move so quickly, things move so fad quickly.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Two months later.
- 15:45Speaker 4: We got a call crazy yeah, and then like didn't
- 15:48Speaker 4: you do didn't you do? Like, didn't you do fallon
- 15:51Speaker 4: like two months later where he had like eight other
- 15:56Speaker 4: celebrities play the one guitar.
- 15:58Speaker 1: And what was so funny about Fallon? They did this
- 16:00Speaker 1: on uh ridiculousness too. They took out a guitar and
- 16:06Speaker 1: it was like three times as eyes and he thought
- 16:08Speaker 1: it would it would stump us.
- 16:10Speaker 3: So I've been living all the memes about your kind
- 16:12Speaker 3: of band and stuff like the Philossal Raptor. Oh, it's
- 16:15Speaker 3: about that, and that I Can has Cheeseburger has changed
- 16:19Speaker 3: into I Can has Amazing grace so good.
- 16:22Speaker 1: So I don't know, like we'll get into this, but
- 16:24Speaker 1: there's a negative side of the industry, like the human centipede.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Stuff like bad luck trying stuff.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Negative the industry. Yeah, we got to talk about how
- 16:33Speaker 2: bad luck Brian is kind of destroying all of our reputations.
- 16:35Speaker 3: We're talking about you first, y'all. Don't need to meet me, No,
- 16:40Speaker 3: we want to meet you first.
- 16:42Speaker 4: We want to meet you, meet me.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I invite you to meet me. Ahi. My name is
- 16:49Speaker 2: Tony Dunter. I'm Tony Dunter, and uh I'm part of
- 16:53Speaker 2: a band called all Right Run and uh we made
- 16:57Speaker 2: a lot of fun alt music, some exciting stuff. We're
- 17:00Speaker 2: mostly known for a band that makes music. You can
- 17:02Speaker 2: do insane music videos too. We're having a lot of fun.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Your music videos are top notch. They're kind of breaking
- 17:09Speaker 3: the internet.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember my our biggest music video, and I
- 17:13Speaker 2: do say my because it's mostly my idea. But I
- 17:15Speaker 2: can't do it alone. So that's why I have a band.
- 17:19Speaker 2: It's it's called not Another One. And uh we did
- 17:22Speaker 2: the entire thing in one shot on a bunch of
- 17:25Speaker 2: different elliptical machines.
- 17:27Speaker 3: You guys are jumping around, we're jumping machine.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Because those those those uh footrests, those foot wrest will
- 17:37Speaker 2: cut and they're heavy and there's a weight to them
- 17:39Speaker 2: and you can't jump up. So we jump from elliptical
- 17:44Speaker 2: sheet a machine to elliptical machine and uh it took
- 17:47Speaker 2: us actually forty five takes.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I mean it looks like like and then your bandmate
- 17:53Speaker 1: had his banjo come in and out.
- 17:55Speaker 2: It was like yeah, exactly, oh.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Oh, not another one, not another one, and such a
- 18:11Speaker 3: good song.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Thank you. Yeah, everyone knows this for our music, which
- 18:14Speaker 2: is awesome.
- 18:15Speaker 7: You know.
- 18:15Speaker 3: I love like a lot of hay hose are used
- 18:17Speaker 3: in this generation, but you decide to speed them up
- 18:20Speaker 3: and kind of cut them off, which I really like.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Yeah, everyone's using hay hose, but I thought, what if
- 18:24Speaker 2: we use a o's. Yeah, and I'm kind of a
- 18:26Speaker 2: trail brazer on that's talk.
- 18:28Speaker 4: About the hay hose space.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Let's talk about vowels.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Let's talk about vowels because I think vowels are huge
- 18:34Speaker 4: right now.
- 18:35Speaker 2: And yeah, what's everyone's favorite? There's only five and sometimes six?
- 18:39Speaker 2: But what are what are? What are everyone's favorites?
- 18:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm a big Oh. I love the rhyme sound
- 18:45Speaker 3: of an O in your mouth, So I won't necessarily
- 18:47Speaker 3: say a hey or a hoe, but I will find
- 18:49Speaker 3: home or alone. I'm just a lyricist.
- 18:56Speaker 2: I gotta tell my boys about tom.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I'm a big I.
- 18:59Speaker 3: I you're an I an I Yeah, Oh I love I.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:06Speaker 4: It's like a cursive a I I.
- 19:10Speaker 1: And I like to crack it. I like to take
- 19:12Speaker 1: it like it's an egg yolk and you're just cracking
- 19:14Speaker 1: it on the skillet.
- 19:15Speaker 3: I I.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear it, hear the yolks, listen to it
- 19:22Speaker 1: for the yolk. I mostly falls out.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it just sounds broken.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Yeah, there's no whites in that.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Yeah, me and my band will be like more yolk,
- 19:33Speaker 1: more white, and I'll go.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I I.
- 19:39Speaker 4: I love that bowel well kind of like you. I
- 19:42Speaker 4: love an oh, but I love like an oh yeah,
- 19:51Speaker 4: oh oh double oh. And you can really do that
- 20:01Speaker 4: in any song you want, especially rap. You can insert
- 20:05Speaker 4: it like in anything. And I love the comfort of
- 20:08Speaker 4: an ooh.
- 20:09Speaker 8: It's like, what's she doing?
- 20:11Speaker 5: Oh?
- 20:11Speaker 3: You inserting oohs into the Thong song cover that you did, honestly.
- 20:16Speaker 4: And it's so funny because I don't remember how to
- 20:18Speaker 4: sing that song or what it sounds like.
- 20:19Speaker 2: You don't worry, you do it. You did.
- 20:22Speaker 1: You did the ooz for the jay Z Empire of Mind.
- 20:25Speaker 4: That was oh yeah, I do remember what that one
- 20:28Speaker 4: sounds like.
- 20:30Speaker 9: Oh for uh, will I be in the empire something,
- 20:42Speaker 9: I'll be in the empire.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Some We don't need you figuring it out.
- 20:49Speaker 4: I used to know it. You have to look on YouTube.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I'm an a guy, long, a hard, a soft, a
- 20:55Speaker 2: all the eights. So I'll go And then I also
- 21:02Speaker 2: do yeah.
- 21:04Speaker 10: At yai Yeah yeah another one.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Yeah, you're doing like an open mouth bowel that A
- 21:18Speaker 4: lot of a lot of people are kind of singing
- 21:20Speaker 4: out of the corner of their mouth, right now that's
- 21:22Speaker 4: kind of what's in and but.
- 21:24Speaker 3: You are still you go full and I love that.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I'm going full I'm doing full mouth, and I think
- 21:28Speaker 2: it's important for us to go full mouth. My older
- 21:32Speaker 2: brother was into SKA and I got into you know,
- 21:35Speaker 2: they use a lot of a's and oz, but just
- 21:37Speaker 2: purely in the word itself.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Ah ska. You know you ad in the word.
- 21:43Speaker 2: It inspired me Around the house. It used to say
- 21:45Speaker 2: the word is ska, and I said, that's something. I yeah, sca.
- 21:52Speaker 2: And I'm also a big modest Yahoo fan, so I
- 21:54Speaker 2: do a lot.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Of I mean madus. Yahoo has changed the game. Like
- 22:00Speaker 3: a king without a crown, you keep falling down, you know.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Lyricist, I wrote an exact same song of his and
- 22:09Speaker 2: he released his and I was like, I wrote that.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, I wrote because.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I feel like that time of your very specifically inspired
- 22:17Speaker 3: by his life, and I wrote.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I wrote time of your song and it was it
- 22:21Speaker 2: was actually called a moment of your tune and I
- 22:24Speaker 2: wrote it. And then he came out with that and
- 22:25Speaker 2: I said, oh my god, Mancia, who almost stole what
- 22:29Speaker 2: I had in my mind. Word for her happened to.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Two three four, Yeah, because I was just trying to
- 22:35Speaker 1: teach my dog how to count, and I was just
- 22:38Speaker 1: to go. I mean, I was trying so hard. It
- 22:40Speaker 1: took me so long that at some point I just
- 22:42Speaker 1: started songwriting.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Did your dog ever learn how to count?
- 22:46Speaker 4: That's so funny, though, that's like a really funny idea.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Okay, wait to have a question. Yeah we're talking about vowels. No, yeah,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I want to ask gun to your head? Snaps or claps? Oh,
- 22:56Speaker 1: don't make me choose, you freaking head.
- 22:58Speaker 2: But this has happened to me. Go tango.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Yan secrets told you you could only do one?
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 23:07Speaker 3: This?
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah that's me. That's what I said. So I yeah,
- 23:12Speaker 2: it happened to me. And and and Ryan Seacrests put
- 23:14Speaker 2: a good into my head and said, snapster claps, you
- 23:16Speaker 2: can only do one.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Oh that's so tough, it's so good.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Yeah. So I chose claps, and I can't do snaps anymore,
- 23:23Speaker 2: which is good because claps are are much easier to
- 23:26Speaker 2: do when you're on some sort of machine you got
- 23:28Speaker 2: to jump off of because you're gonna need your hands,
- 23:30Speaker 2: you know, when I'm twisted.
- 23:32Speaker 1: I do think our industry is moving towards colaps.
- 23:34Speaker 4: Yeah, classic snap. I think like a snap gets people.
- 23:40Speaker 4: A snap is like community.
- 23:41Speaker 3: For me.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Snap is like we're all sitting around a circle and
- 23:46Speaker 4: we're just jamming and CP to you. Well, a clap
- 23:50Speaker 4: is like it's a little more upbeat. I would say,
- 23:52Speaker 4: a clap is a little more like, Hey, we're about
- 23:55Speaker 4: to go to the club.
- 23:55Speaker 6: You know.
- 23:56Speaker 4: It's like like the Lumineers, you know, like a little
- 23:59Speaker 4: bit more clubby.
- 24:00Speaker 3: I love how they're playing our songs and clubs. By
- 24:03Speaker 3: the way, It's like, this must be so fun to
- 24:05Speaker 3: be in a club right now.
- 24:06Speaker 4: It must be so fun. It must be really high energy.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Alt indie music is blasting at the clubs. I was.
- 24:12Speaker 3: I was talking to us and Black Eyed Peas.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I was talking to a woman.
- 24:19Speaker 6: I love.
- 24:22Speaker 4: I'm sorry I remembered that one. There you go coming
- 24:25Speaker 4: back to me my dress as pockets.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Oh my god, that's why I was.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Talking to a woman. I was talking to a woman
- 24:33Speaker 2: at Cheetahs on Sunset and she uses our music for dances.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Wow on the pole it must be private dances strippers.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that becomes like more of a yeah, but also
- 24:46Speaker 1: like it's in the other way where it's like some
- 24:48Speaker 1: churches are starting to sing our stuff. Like sometimes people
- 24:50Speaker 1: will be like, did you guys write that to be
- 24:52Speaker 1: a hymn?
- 24:53Speaker 3: Well, that is always getting are you secretly Christian? Everyone's
- 24:56Speaker 3: asking all the Christian and so.
- 24:59Speaker 4: That's why we have to, you know, like you got
- 25:01Speaker 4: to overcompensate on Tumblr and post these like these like
- 25:04Speaker 4: cigarettes being ashed on a wildflower.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I loved that album artwork you did.
- 25:09Speaker 4: Oh my god, it just like came to us.
- 25:12Speaker 1: It's gorgeous. Well, I mean, my man, we have a
- 25:14Speaker 1: song those it's about making a cappuccino. It's literally just
- 25:18Speaker 1: like because we love coffee. We're like a obsessive coffee
- 25:22Speaker 1: and we wrote a song and everyone thinks it's about God,
- 25:26Speaker 1: but it's like such a cappuccino.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Just sing a couple of the lyrics.
- 25:30Speaker 1: So he walks with me, He talks with me. He
- 25:33Speaker 1: walks me through the forest, the forest of the cream
- 25:37Speaker 1: and foam and forest, he walks and talks with me
- 25:42Speaker 1: through the valley and the shadow of death.
- 25:45Speaker 3: So it's a cappuccino is a heat.
- 25:49Speaker 1: So he is the bean and then you heard the
- 25:51Speaker 1: cream and the foam is.
- 25:53Speaker 2: The creation of a cappuccino.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Throughout the song and Death Valley is the end of
- 25:56Speaker 1: the mug.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Oh oh yeah, that's like, oh, that's so relatable. When
- 26:02Speaker 4: you're done, when you're literally done sipping your coffee and
- 26:05Speaker 4: it feels like death.
- 26:07Speaker 3: I have death. It's definitely well for me, you know,
- 26:10Speaker 3: It's it's interesting because I feel like what happened in
- 26:14Speaker 3: twenty ten, two thousand and nine really is Mumford and
- 26:16Speaker 3: Sons came onto the scene and changed everything because before
- 26:18Speaker 3: you know, she died in a taxi, we were much
- 26:21Speaker 3: more skinny jeans, much more floopy hair, not doing flannel,
- 26:26Speaker 3: not doing acoustic, and they kind of rocked it. They
- 26:29Speaker 3: came in with their beards and their lumberjack Christian aesthetic
- 26:32Speaker 3: and they gave Christians something to latch onto. So for me,
- 26:36Speaker 3: a lot of my music is actually very obviously kind
- 26:39Speaker 3: of anti God. I am a known anti antitheist.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Is what I say atheist?
- 26:45Speaker 3: I think anti theist. It's I'm actually against atheist. Is
- 26:49Speaker 3: you're not you're not involved? I am anti real.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Okay, so you're not agnostic.
- 26:53Speaker 3: I'm not agnostic anti theist.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I'm against elbow bacon things happening again, what do.
- 26:58Speaker 3: You mean anti theist? So as you don't believe in God.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Antitheas is you are actively against God. So you do
- 27:05Speaker 3: believe in God's a very wicked relationship with so.
- 27:09Speaker 4: You you believe in God and you hate him.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Yeah, So I believe in God that he's there and
- 27:15Speaker 3: he is evil, and I don't like that. And me
- 27:18Speaker 3: and God we are bartering and bantering and and kind
- 27:21Speaker 3: of throwing swords if you will all the time. I
- 27:24Speaker 3: mean my song, uh, like Father, Like Son, it's set
- 27:30Speaker 3: in a funeral home for my late father and kind
- 27:33Speaker 3: of talks about my religious beliefs with God.
- 27:38Speaker 2: I think it's it is really interesting that all of
- 27:40Speaker 2: our music gets lumped into being Christian. I don't have
- 27:43Speaker 2: a problem with it, you know, I'm not singing about
- 27:46Speaker 2: dancing and and being lascithious. Uh. It is a little
- 27:51Speaker 2: weird when three hundred teenagers come up and say, hell,
- 27:55Speaker 2: we just did a we just did a lip dub
- 27:58Speaker 2: of of Uh. What are those things called where they
- 28:03Speaker 2: track they walk and you do the they did the
- 28:05Speaker 2: they do the walking ellipsync. But one of those ellipt up? Yeah,
- 28:08Speaker 2: what are they all walked? It's one of those walking
- 28:11Speaker 2: tracking things. Yeah.
- 28:12Speaker 3: I know these I remember right now.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Yeah. I think it was a llipt up there.
- 28:18Speaker 3: They called them a lipt up and.
- 28:19Speaker 2: So they were doing these big lift ups. They said,
- 28:21Speaker 2: oh we did, we did your your song as elliptop,
- 28:25Speaker 2: three hundred of us at this youth group walking, and
- 28:27Speaker 2: I go, oh, that's cool. That's not necessarily what I'm
- 28:30Speaker 2: going for. But I'm glad everyone can enjoy it. I'm
- 28:33Speaker 2: super glad. And they're downloading him as iTunes singles. We
- 28:36Speaker 2: were iTunes single of the week last week.
- 28:37Speaker 4: No wait, congrats, single of the week.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I was single of the week. Yeah we yeah, we
- 28:43Speaker 2: we were. I keep keep saying I we were. I'm
- 28:46Speaker 2: in a band. Were we were?
- 28:49Speaker 4: It is tough to remember sometimes, like we I we
- 28:54Speaker 4: I because with she major, he minor, and of course
- 28:56Speaker 4: we're taking a break because I grew up my bangs
- 28:58Speaker 4: and so that didn't work for him.
- 29:00Speaker 2: And so it's always hard when the banks don't take
- 29:03Speaker 2: on the band.
- 29:03Speaker 4: It's tough when the bands don't because that was a
- 29:06Speaker 4: lot of it, and so and he we had some
- 29:08Speaker 4: artistic differences whether I should cut my bangs again, and
- 29:11Speaker 4: I ultimately wanted to go in another direction, but he
- 29:14Speaker 4: felt it was really important to the sound and he
- 29:17Speaker 4: said it honestly, like doesn't make any fucking sense if
- 29:20Speaker 4: you don't have bangs, is what he said. And so
- 29:22Speaker 4: that was like a little tough, but it's been good
- 29:25Speaker 4: to like find yourself. What are your guys' like muses, like,
- 29:32Speaker 4: what is there something that really like inspires you? For me,
- 29:38Speaker 4: I would say, it's like, I think it's I'm weird
- 29:42Speaker 4: for this the beach. I think it's like it's really
- 29:45Speaker 4: weird feeling apart because there's so much about the beach.
- 29:49Speaker 1: There's the sand, there's.
- 29:51Speaker 4: I would say it's it's the way that the tide
- 29:55Speaker 4: when it gets really low and it and the water's
- 29:58Speaker 4: really small, and it's sunset and it's golden hour and
- 30:04Speaker 4: it's said hot, better, faster, strong.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Okay, here's the thing. Here's the thing when you're saying
- 30:13Speaker 1: that just now, Yeah, I swear to God that was
- 30:17Speaker 1: gorgea thank you. But what did bump me was your banks.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Yeah that I don't have them anymore.
- 30:24Speaker 1: I know, like like when the second your voice is
- 30:27Speaker 1: just so powerful in that way, then I go straight
- 30:29Speaker 1: to your forehead.
- 30:29Speaker 2: It did feel conceived by someone who currently had bangs
- 30:32Speaker 2: when it was conceived.
- 30:33Speaker 4: Can I can I be vulnerable about something, of course,
- 30:37Speaker 4: So I went to a dermatologist and thank you for telling.
- 30:42Speaker 8: And he said, and I guys like snapped, yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay.
- 30:55Speaker 4: So I went to a dermatologist and he told me
- 30:57Speaker 4: I medically shouldn't get bangs anymore because I have a
- 30:59Speaker 4: spot that could get easily infected by hair. And so
- 31:03Speaker 4: I medically can't have the bangs anymore. And I've been
- 31:06Speaker 4: playing it off like it's an artistic choice, but I
- 31:07Speaker 4: have sort of been forced into this, and I'm really
- 31:11Speaker 4: worried about what it's going to do to my career.
- 31:13Speaker 2: I can I ask a question and then I want
- 31:14Speaker 2: to do revisionist history on your dermatolgist appointent, And I
- 31:16Speaker 2: don't want to presume I know more than a dermatologists.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Did you propose you could just wash your hair a
- 31:20Speaker 2: little bit more? Hair?
- 31:24Speaker 3: The hair is the thing that could cause the bacterial infection.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Is bumping me a little, like.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Maybe did we see instead of like a doctor of
- 31:33Speaker 1: the skin, maybe we went to a doctor of the hair, because.
- 31:35Speaker 3: It feels like a hair is the issue.
- 31:37Speaker 2: And I do think the doctor the hair would probably
- 31:39Speaker 2: literally take personal offense to that.
- 31:41Speaker 4: So the Doctor of the Skin basically said that I've
- 31:46Speaker 4: been ashing my cigarettes in my hair and being at
- 31:50Speaker 4: the beach too much, that the sand is getting in
- 31:52Speaker 4: my hair. And I've been going to Dockweiler, where there
- 31:56Speaker 4: is famously some medical waste in the water, and so
- 32:00Speaker 4: that's where a lot of that is coming from. I'm sorry,
- 32:03Speaker 4: I know the science is boring?
- 32:05Speaker 3: Is that science?
- 32:06Speaker 6: Is that?
- 32:07Speaker 2: Is that your daugher termatologist is Doc Whiler.
- 32:13Speaker 4: You're referring to, Well, yeah, his name is Doc Whyler,
- 32:16Speaker 4: and he lives in dark Wyler.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Beach and sometimes is his name doctor Wyler, but you
- 32:22Speaker 1: call him Doc Wiser?
- 32:24Speaker 2: Or is it the beach is my doctor? Because I
- 32:26Speaker 2: have heard I have heard that song.
- 32:29Speaker 4: My doctor, and this time is my dentist, and hind
- 32:37Speaker 4: is my therapist.
- 32:39Speaker 8: Thank you, and the send is my ma.
- 32:44Speaker 3: I love your voice because it's almost fake bad yodling
- 32:47Speaker 3: in a way, it's jumping. It's jumping so low to
- 32:50Speaker 3: so high.
- 32:51Speaker 4: I've never heard that before.
- 32:53Speaker 2: And I just want to say lyrics to stick with you.
- 32:55Speaker 2: The sun is my dentist is.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Something about love that as a lyricist, I'll never forget
- 33:00Speaker 3: that amazing and the implications of what's going on in
- 33:03Speaker 3: that mouth? Amazing? Amazing, it's got to be filled with cavities.
- 33:10Speaker 3: The sun is a useless I did.
- 33:12Speaker 4: I did meet Gatier and the first thing he said was, girl, what's.
- 33:15Speaker 5: With that mouth?
- 33:17Speaker 2: I want to meet go to you? But I can't
- 33:19Speaker 2: find him.
- 33:19Speaker 7: He's so.
- 33:26Speaker 2: I see him every.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Time every party.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Feeling? Tell me year, I say, where I saw feeling?
- 33:33Speaker 3: Can we can we get in a room with not
- 33:34Speaker 3: as crazy wallpaper?
- 33:37Speaker 4: Literally only found it because he had wandered into the
- 33:40Speaker 4: women's restroom and he didn't mask the walls. He wasn't
- 33:44Speaker 4: painted for those walls.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Oh wow, wait, did you say something? I heard that
- 33:50Speaker 1: the son is my dentist, Doster.
- 33:53Speaker 3: So what do you use muses?
- 33:55Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 33:55Speaker 3: So I guess for me, it's a little more esoteric,
- 33:58Speaker 3: if you will. I mean, mym this pain, the pain
- 34:01Speaker 3: of the wind, the destruction of a bridge, the ever
- 34:07Speaker 3: changing and falling death of a leaf, and all of
- 34:11Speaker 3: these things kind of captivate my mind and lock in
- 34:14Speaker 3: in a way that the only way I can express
- 34:17Speaker 3: them out is through written word that turns into song.
- 34:21Speaker 3: And we talked about you know what was our favorite?
- 34:23Speaker 3: A clapper? A snap for me it's a piano, a nice,
- 34:26Speaker 3: a somber e minor somehow captures my heart and my
- 34:32Speaker 3: soul more than anything else. And something about the way
- 34:38Speaker 3: that the leaves fall on the fall of your heart.
- 34:44Speaker 3: And our eyes met on a leaf from the start,
- 34:49Speaker 3: and you were a tree that was growing. But my
- 34:55Speaker 3: a corn you singing over me?
- 34:58Speaker 1: No, I am so sorry.
- 34:59Speaker 5: I'm just used to.
- 35:00Speaker 11: I'm used to.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Did you just interrupt me? Did you just fucking interrupt me?
- 35:04Speaker 3: Just interrupt my song? I just wanted to do you
- 35:08Speaker 3: just fucking interrupt my song?
- 35:10Speaker 1: I believe men and women just sing together and it
- 35:12Speaker 1: sounds beautiful.
- 35:13Speaker 3: Blend io. Whoa, whoa are you guys doing?
- 35:18Speaker 5: Whoa?
- 35:19Speaker 7: Whoa?
- 35:20Speaker 4: Sorry, it just got a little awkward turtle in here.
- 35:22Speaker 1: It's the first time I saw your hands because they've
- 35:24Speaker 1: been you know, they've been in my pockets.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Sorry, that was my father coming out.
- 35:28Speaker 4: No, it's okay, it covered, it's okay.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Your hands pocket.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Is there coal in your pocket?
- 35:37Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 35:37Speaker 4: I found some coal and I went to a I
- 35:40Speaker 4: went to a mine just to see what I could find.
- 35:45Speaker 2: You found coal I found turns out huh.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Well, anyway, I'm so sorry that you're in pain. But
- 35:53Speaker 4: I think it translates into a beautiful song. It like
- 35:57Speaker 4: it really you seem upset by this?
- 36:00Speaker 3: No, no, not at all. Thank you.
- 36:01Speaker 2: I like I like when you express your soul. It's
- 36:03Speaker 2: pretty beautiful.
- 36:04Speaker 3: No, thank you so much.
- 36:05Speaker 2: I'll tell you what inspires me.
- 36:08Speaker 4: It's like you're popping a sour a sour candy.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Good. I'm fine.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Yeah, your mood ring that looks like a purity ring
- 36:15Speaker 1: is red.
- 36:16Speaker 3: No, it's good. I'm fine.
- 36:17Speaker 2: I'm so happy you sure should we let this pass?
- 36:22Speaker 6: Just let it pass?
- 36:23Speaker 1: This too, show pass?
- 36:25Speaker 2: You're like, is that helping or hurting?
- 36:27Speaker 3: That's hurting?
- 36:28Speaker 2: Okay, so maybe.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Shot passed.
- 36:37Speaker 2: So bad? So let me see if I can help
- 36:40Speaker 2: this too. Show pass.
- 36:50Speaker 6: A meadow lark sing for me? Now, sing out that anger,
- 36:59Speaker 6: sing out that pow.
- 37:01Speaker 7: The snow falls in the summer because winter came early
- 37:06Speaker 7: this year.
- 37:08Speaker 3: Sorry, I had to throw up a lyric good for Did.
- 37:10Speaker 4: You hear Pentatonics cover of that song oh on the
- 37:13Speaker 4: sing off?
- 37:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they're gonna win. I think I think
- 37:16Speaker 2: they're going I think they're about to win.
- 37:19Speaker 3: Guys, this is never gonna go away, not at all.
- 37:22Speaker 2: I'll tell you what inspires me. Uh, it's souvenir shops,
- 37:26Speaker 2: going in seeing choch keys, seeing those little things that
- 37:29Speaker 2: you're pressing, all the bones fall apart.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Oh my god, all of our music does sound like
- 37:32Speaker 4: choch keys.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Yeah, And and just little things. And then also the
- 37:35Speaker 2: instrumentals they use in bank commercials. I love that music
- 37:38Speaker 2: for the music. And then and then all the little
- 37:40Speaker 2: gadgets and ant farms and yo yo's and soccer boppers
- 37:46Speaker 2: and dogs as well, dogs and buttons separately. That's what
- 37:53Speaker 2: it's Americana.
- 37:54Speaker 3: I love it so much. Yeah, it's a little Americana,
- 37:56Speaker 3: especially the commercials.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Yeah, the commercials. I just feel like we're Themmercials are
- 38:00Speaker 2: the backbone of television. So I feel like your.
- 38:02Speaker 3: Songs are so perfect. They're used in spots all the time.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Hey please, let's keep that going.
- 38:07Speaker 1: The way you come in and out going, Eh, it's
- 38:11Speaker 1: like a soccer box.
- 38:13Speaker 3: I love how vague and lyrics. I love how vague
- 38:17Speaker 3: your lyrics are and how little lyrics you actually say
- 38:20Speaker 3: in order for it to work for commercials. It's amazing.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Sometimes we are like, let's just imagine we're doing this
- 38:25Speaker 2: for you art. We're doing this for you art. But
- 38:27Speaker 2: what if this was under a soup, you know, a
- 38:29Speaker 2: picture of soup. What if this was under a picture
- 38:31Speaker 2: of a car?
- 38:32Speaker 4: You know?
- 38:32Speaker 2: And so sometimes we tweak it and then someone goes, oh,
- 38:35Speaker 2: maybe you want to use that, and we go, oh
- 38:37Speaker 2: you do, Oh no, really, we didn't even plan for that.
- 38:41Speaker 2: My lawyers always like, you don't need to do that.
- 38:43Speaker 2: You don't need to roll your finger on your cheek
- 38:45Speaker 2: like your little doll. They want your song and they
- 38:47Speaker 2: all know what your game is. But I'm like, I
- 38:49Speaker 2: don't know. I'm an artist, you know, so I love it.
- 38:53Speaker 4: I'm interesting, you are interesting.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Why don't we just hear an excerpt of your latest song?
- 38:58Speaker 3: I love it so much. This is the one that
- 39:00Speaker 3: you're releasing on a new EP.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Right, yeah, we're releasing this song on a new EP.
- 39:04Speaker 3: And was there a brand that maybe you were aiming
- 39:06Speaker 3: for or should we try to guess?
- 39:07Speaker 2: You guys can try and guess. Let me tell you
- 39:10Speaker 2: what the music video is.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Okay, great, start that. That's always a good song to
- 39:14Speaker 3: start with music videos.
- 39:16Speaker 1: So start with the visual.
- 39:17Speaker 2: We put the camera on a jib and we uh
- 39:21Speaker 2: put ourselves, uh just normal size ourselves. But we made
- 39:25Speaker 2: a little tiny town so it's a tracking shot. We
- 39:28Speaker 2: made a town half a mile long, and we're running
- 39:31Speaker 2: through the city in one single shot, looking upward, fish
- 39:35Speaker 2: eye lens, crushing, crushing, crushing, crushing different buildings and cars
- 39:40Speaker 2: and other people. So it's like we're Godzilla's. We're Godzilla's
- 39:42Speaker 2: and we're running around and we're crushing stuff. And it's
- 39:44Speaker 2: one shot, three and a half minutes running for half
- 39:47Speaker 2: a mile. We're running fast and we're crushing all sorts
- 39:50Speaker 2: of shit, and uh, you want to hear it?
- 39:53Speaker 3: Yeah, let's hear it.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Yeah, mutual level maha, mutual love o maha, mutual love.
- 39:59Speaker 5: Oh oh maha, oh oh ah, oh ah.
- 40:13Speaker 3: I'm going to take a wild guess and say mutual love. Omaha.
- 40:18Speaker 2: That's kind of a good idea.
- 40:19Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, I definitely, I think I think that's good
- 40:24Speaker 4: for mutual of omaha. They're so funny on Twitter. I
- 40:26Speaker 4: love when banks are funny.
- 40:28Speaker 2: I haven't seen anyone be funny on Twitter yet. Is
- 40:30Speaker 2: that what they're using it for?
- 40:31Speaker 4: Oh, well, it's starting to be funny. Well, usually it's
- 40:35Speaker 4: for people to say like kind of their worst opinions
- 40:39Speaker 4: with no consequences because no one's looking at it.
- 40:41Speaker 1: I think the only person I follow on there is
- 40:43Speaker 1: Tom from face from my Space, Tom Brittany Murphy.
- 40:51Speaker 4: Yeah, it's good for celebrities and and for when taco
- 40:54Speaker 4: trucks are in a new location and they're using it
- 41:00Speaker 4: to tweet out their location.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Have you guys been to a food truck?
- 41:04Speaker 3: Oh, my god, I like to Yeah, I have not experienced.
- 41:08Speaker 4: Okay, I'm with you. I love a food truck they have.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Here's the craziest part. They have coffee trucks. What and
- 41:15Speaker 1: it looks like an airstream like construction sides.
- 41:21Speaker 3: I'm not following either. What are you talking about.
- 41:24Speaker 4: No, it's a new thing.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Must must be a girl thing.
- 41:28Speaker 4: No, you guys, they're putting it. I'm telling you it's
- 41:30Speaker 4: the future. They put them outside Lochma. Now, so you
- 41:33Speaker 4: can go across the street. You can go take your
- 41:36Speaker 4: Facebook profile picture in the lamps, and then you can
- 41:38Speaker 4: go across the street and get like Japanese Mexican fusion
- 41:42Speaker 4: from a top.
- 41:43Speaker 3: Sorry, they're combining Japanese and Mexican food in a truck
- 41:47Speaker 3: or something that's disgusting.
- 41:48Speaker 1: It could be something as simple as a grilled cheese.
- 41:51Speaker 4: It's really good. No, yeah, oh, my god, the grilled cheese.
- 41:55Speaker 4: Have you Epic Cheese Time? Have you been there?
- 41:59Speaker 1: So and my seven bandmates go to Epic Cheese Time.
- 42:05Speaker 3: I want to say, is that Epic Meal Times pop
- 42:07Speaker 3: up restaurant? You guys remember Epic meal Time?
- 42:10Speaker 5: Right?
- 42:10Speaker 4: Oh yeah, right now?
- 42:12Speaker 3: From right now.
- 42:13Speaker 2: They give me a lot of music ideas.
- 42:15Speaker 3: They are so good and I love Philip DeFranco's commentary.
- 42:18Speaker 2: I love Philip, I.
- 42:19Speaker 4: Love have you seen the latest ray? William Johnson on
- 42:22Speaker 4: Epics Meal Times so funny?
- 42:23Speaker 3: His three things?
- 42:26Speaker 2: Yes, it's so good. I'm sorry. Back to the cheese
- 42:29Speaker 2: food truck. Where do they cook the real cheese on
- 42:32Speaker 2: the muffler?
- 42:32Speaker 3: I'm so confused. Is it like a Toyota? No?
- 42:35Speaker 8: So they have a kitchen in the back.
- 42:37Speaker 4: It's like they have a kitchen in the back of
- 42:38Speaker 4: the truck. So it's like a restaurant.
- 42:40Speaker 3: But on the this is like an eighteen wheeler. How
- 42:43Speaker 3: do they fish?
- 42:45Speaker 2: Is it a U haul.
- 42:47Speaker 7: Hall?
- 42:48Speaker 4: No? No, no, So it's smaller than a U haul,
- 42:51Speaker 4: bigger than a pickup truck. And the brands will have
- 42:55Speaker 4: an Instagram handle on the side of.
- 42:57Speaker 1: It, and it's like an email address and it's there
- 43:02Speaker 1: and all the guys who work there have these beards, and.
- 43:06Speaker 4: The sandwiches are only like, well, actually they're a little pricey.
- 43:10Speaker 4: You're like twelve fifty.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Okay, hold on a second.
- 43:12Speaker 3: That's so much for a sandwich.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Is this a good thing?
- 43:15Speaker 3: It doesn't sound like it good.
- 43:17Speaker 1: And then they have rice crispies.
- 43:20Speaker 3: Look, I'm gonna need you both to shut the fuck
- 43:22Speaker 3: up before I throw up another It's gonna work. It's
- 43:28Speaker 3: gonna work.
- 43:29Speaker 4: It's gonna work.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Oh are you guys invested in it?
- 43:31Speaker 7: Well?
- 43:31Speaker 4: Okay, shit, it's out. Our cupcake truck is coming. Our
- 43:36Speaker 4: cupcake cupcake truck.
- 43:37Speaker 3: Cakes are so in right now.
- 43:39Speaker 2: God.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Yeah, they're really cute. They're the prettiest colors you've ever seen.
- 43:44Speaker 4: It's called Oopside Cupcakes, and it's and we're traveling.
- 43:48Speaker 3: I feel like I'm baking me elbow? What is oopside cupcake?
- 43:51Speaker 1: Okay, Jamaican me elbow is so different than oopside cupcake?
- 43:54Speaker 3: What did that mean?
- 43:56Speaker 1: Caked?
- 43:57Speaker 3: What does that?
- 43:57Speaker 2: What? Oopsie cakes?
- 43:59Speaker 1: What elbow?
- 44:01Speaker 2: It's tick?
- 44:02Speaker 3: Yeah, we went over this.
- 44:03Speaker 4: What caked is? Oops? I caked it like like almost like,
- 44:07Speaker 4: oh my god, I just thought of a really funny idea. Yeah,
- 44:10Speaker 4: what if there were cakes, but like in the shape
- 44:13Speaker 4: of regular things.
- 44:14Speaker 3: I need you to shut the You're so right.
- 44:17Speaker 4: That would never work. That would never work. That would
- 44:18Speaker 4: never work.
- 44:19Speaker 3: You can only do it once. Man, a little derogatory.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Now it's beginning. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's for fun, serious.
- 44:32Speaker 4: Remain okay, anywhere truck is going to go everywhere. I'm
- 44:42Speaker 4: really follow it on Instagram doing it.
- 44:43Speaker 1: With Bill a Bond Girl.
- 44:45Speaker 3: Yeah, oh, Roxy, we know her. I know Roxy.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Roxy is for from uh pick silver, it's from ten
- 44:54Speaker 1: to twelve years old. Bill a Bond Girl is for mommy.
- 44:58Speaker 8: Yeah, I just mom.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Is riveting. I love the real life too. I've got
- 45:09Speaker 3: a question and it might just you know, I don't
- 45:11Speaker 3: want to bring up the elephant in the room, but
- 45:13Speaker 3: how do you guys feel about E d M Music?
- 45:17Speaker 4: Oh my god, No, I mean I don't want to. Like,
- 45:22Speaker 4: I have some friends in it, like they're you know,
- 45:26Speaker 4: and they're doing their own thing and it's really interesting.
- 45:28Speaker 4: But like, I'm sorry, I don't want to be like
- 45:30Speaker 4: a negative Nancy or anything, but I don't think it's
- 45:34Speaker 4: gonna last.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Definitely is not.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I also think that like all of us here, we
- 45:38Speaker 1: are musicians. We make music with our hands. I can't
- 45:40Speaker 1: imagine how long making music on a computer is gonna last.
- 45:44Speaker 2: It's what I mean, that's where you do your taxes.
- 45:46Speaker 2: It's so weird to me. Why would you want to
- 45:48Speaker 2: make music there. I am vehemently anti uh it. You
- 45:52Speaker 2: know at Bonnou, I'm notorious for pulling chords right, Oh.
- 45:56Speaker 3: You're the corder.
- 46:00Speaker 4: A lot of people it was supposed to be their
- 46:02Speaker 4: big break one time.
- 46:04Speaker 2: I'm famously hated by a passion pit because one time
- 46:07Speaker 2: the guy came up to me and I said, hey,
- 46:09Speaker 2: passion Pit, you should change your first name to arm
- 46:12Speaker 2: because you stink. Arm Pit.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Oh okay, yeah, yeah.
- 46:26Speaker 3: This is never going away. This is never about the
- 46:29Speaker 3: biggest elephant in the room. Scrillicks. Music is not going
- 46:34Speaker 3: to I'm sorry.
- 46:35Speaker 4: Anything in the Sahara tent is going.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Absolutely Sahara Bye bye. Goby's where it's at outdoor stages,
- 46:42Speaker 2: where it's at Coachella stage. We're talking Coachella stages.
- 46:45Speaker 1: In the Tom Store, that's where it's supposed to be.
- 46:48Speaker 1: And I am playing a live show. Me and my
- 46:49Speaker 1: boys were playing a live show at the Tom Store.
- 46:52Speaker 2: No way, that's I love Tom.
- 46:55Speaker 3: I love Tom's and what they aimed for.
- 46:57Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love what they aimed for.
- 46:59Speaker 2: I'm playing Cony benefit there.
- 47:01Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 47:02Speaker 4: It's so sad what's happening.
- 47:03Speaker 2: I can't believe what's happening. I can't believe what people
- 47:06Speaker 2: are telling me is happening. Yeah.
- 47:08Speaker 3: Right now, we're at the point where Cony is evil
- 47:10Speaker 3: and we're really against him.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:12Speaker 4: Yeah, we're raising awareness.
- 47:13Speaker 3: We're raising so well.
- 47:14Speaker 4: I meant to ask, Oh, no, go ahead, No, well sorry,
- 47:18Speaker 4: I mean this was kind of vulnerable. Do you guys
- 47:21Speaker 4: want to do the ice Bucket Challenge with me later?
- 47:23Speaker 6: Oh?
- 47:24Speaker 2: I already did it. Two We're two years away, but
- 47:28Speaker 2: I already did it.
- 47:30Speaker 4: You already I did it? Okay, Well that's fine.
- 47:33Speaker 1: I think based off of you talking about scrillics and
- 47:37Speaker 1: talking about all these like machine made music, I think,
- 47:40Speaker 1: would you guys want to write now, do like a
- 47:42Speaker 1: little jam circle a drum circle together using us?
- 47:46Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 47:47Speaker 3: I love that. I wish I had my color band.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Oh gosh, uh, the big Man and the others, the
- 47:55Speaker 2: big Man.
- 47:55Speaker 8: In the tree.
- 47:56Speaker 4: No, the big Man and the others. Sorry, what you
- 47:58Speaker 4: said was good?
- 47:59Speaker 2: What if it was myth what if it was like
- 48:01Speaker 2: the fish, the whale, the dog on the snail, fish,
- 48:05Speaker 2: the whale, the dog, the snail, the cat, the dog,
- 48:07Speaker 2: the dog, four dogs, four dogs.
- 48:11Speaker 4: And it's sort of like the where what I'm picturing
- 48:14Speaker 4: is where the wild things are. But music, Oh.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Okay, that sounds so I love that because I love
- 48:19Speaker 1: vintage things.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Could we maybe make it feel like a collage a
- 48:23Speaker 3: little bit?
- 48:27Speaker 2: That would be awesome.
- 48:28Speaker 3: That would be awesome. Oh my god, I just wanted
- 48:31Speaker 3: to feel like a wooden little fire glen. And maybe
- 48:33Speaker 3: it's writing on the top of that says live, laugh, love.
- 48:35Speaker 4: And you know how tall we are?
- 48:36Speaker 3: Two inches can so we're so small worse.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Maybe we're on a white side white.
- 48:43Speaker 2: Oh now we're speaking my language. We're on a white sike.
- 48:45Speaker 2: We're used to go pros or our foreheads okay, and
- 48:49Speaker 2: we are dressed like different types of food. And the
- 48:55Speaker 2: light is the same light you using refrigerators. But every
- 48:57Speaker 2: time we have a guy, maybe we can get some
- 49:00Speaker 2: some actor we love, like Joseph Gordon Levitt. He can
- 49:02Speaker 2: open the door and when he closes it, we completely
- 49:05Speaker 2: change in the dark.
- 49:06Speaker 1: That's this I'm doing this for you. The mics are shakeaways.
- 49:10Speaker 2: That's good. Those are funny. Does that kind of look
- 49:14Speaker 2: like jerking it?
- 49:14Speaker 3: It's so funny? How much that is funny?
- 49:16Speaker 5: It does kind of.
- 49:18Speaker 7: Is it just me?
- 49:19Speaker 4: Or do I kind of have a dirty mind? Or
- 49:21Speaker 4: is it just me? Or does it kind of look
- 49:23Speaker 4: like jerking it? Okay? Should we just start singing and
- 49:29Speaker 4: see what comes out.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Let's lay down a drum first. Who every wants to
- 49:32Speaker 3: take drum? And then we can add harmonies and instruments
- 49:36Speaker 3: on top of each other.
- 49:37Speaker 1: I used to say we could do multiple hands for drums,
- 49:39Speaker 1: you know, multiple hands for guitars? Is how okay?
- 49:53Speaker 7: Uh?
