- 0:03Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 0:07Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 0:11Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 0:15Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 0:19Speaker 1: Donald J.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Trump's leadership.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm Christy nom the United States Secretary of Homeland Security.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Under President Trump, attempted illegal border crossings are at the
- 0:29Speaker 1: lowest levels ever recorded, and over one hundred thousand illegal
- 0:33Speaker 1: aliens have been arrested. If you are here illegally, your
- 0:37Speaker 1: next you will be fined nearly one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned,
- 0:41Speaker 1: and deported.
- 0:42Speaker 2: You will never return.
- 0:44Speaker 1: But if you register using our CBP home app and
- 0:47Speaker 1: leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Do what's right. Leave now.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Under President Trump, America's laws, border and families will be protected.

- 1:01Speaker 4: If you thought the mccrispy was bussing, hold up, Vacon
- 1:05Speaker 4: and Ranch have entered the chat. Say hello to the
- 1:09Speaker 4: vacant ranch mccrispy by time by five five.
- 1:12Speaker 5: I participated in Mcconnalds some HM at the time.
- 1:14Speaker 6: Only I was running from the gift. I don't run
- 1:17Speaker 6: from it no more. So I'm all right now, you know.
- 1:21Speaker 6: But so I hear him in different ways, and so
- 1:23Speaker 6: I always tell people I can't tell you how you
- 1:26Speaker 6: can hear him versus how I hear him. It's gonna
- 1:29Speaker 6: be different because everybody didn't have the same gift that
- 1:31Speaker 6: I have. However, I will tell you that thing that
- 1:34Speaker 6: you think about that you can't shake. Most time it's
- 1:38Speaker 6: him trying to nudge you on something, and sometimes he
- 1:42Speaker 6: speaks to you through other people. Now you can have
- 1:44Speaker 6: a thought about something you ain't told nobody, and then
- 1:47Speaker 6: somebody comes saying, you know what I was thinking, you
- 1:48Speaker 6: know what you should do?
- 1:49Speaker 7: And you'd be like, I been thinking about that.
- 1:52Speaker 6: That's him saying, let me send it through somebody else,
- 1:54Speaker 6: because you won't be of a handle if he came
- 1:56Speaker 6: down and.
- 1:56Speaker 8: Said, my graduate from my school being forced back drop drop, Mike,
- 2:05Speaker 8: drop back drop drop.
- 2:18Speaker 9: All right, gosh, welcome back, e y l.
- 2:20Speaker 10: We are in our second home, Los Angeles, and this
- 2:24Speaker 10: is an episode that I was just telling. My sister
- 2:27Speaker 10: is extremely excited about so she actually told me about
- 2:31Speaker 10: Tabitha Brown, probably a year and a half, two years ago,
- 2:34Speaker 10: something like that.
- 2:36Speaker 7: Come on, sis, I appreciate you.
- 2:38Speaker 9: So yeah, actually, you know, get it done. I told her.
- 2:43Speaker 9: She's like, I told you.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Only big it's a big deal, big deal.
- 2:48Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 2:48Speaker 11: So but can you talk about how the room feels
- 2:51Speaker 11: right now that you walked in.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean.
- 2:54Speaker 11: There's a level of joy that has Southern hospitality compassed
- 2:57Speaker 11: the room.
- 2:58Speaker 9: So that's the fact. The pink is very drip.
- 3:02Speaker 11: Yeah, we're not gonna play around with the drip from
- 3:05Speaker 11: the watch to the kigs.
- 3:06Speaker 9: It's giving.
- 3:07Speaker 11: You know, I'm not even show what they called the
- 3:09Speaker 11: fabric just love, love love.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Everything is aligned here, the love movement love.
- 3:18Speaker 10: So Tabitha Brown, I guess the best way to describe
- 3:21Speaker 10: is an entrepreneur, restaurant tour author, huge on social media,
- 3:27Speaker 10: health advocate, vegan.
- 3:30Speaker 9: Wife, a mother, inspiration. Anything I left out you.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Got the wall bro, Damn that was good.
- 3:39Speaker 7: I guess I didn't even care.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Just so she checks fashion icon. Yeah, we're don't put
- 3:49Speaker 5: that on the list now.
- 3:50Speaker 9: Obviously she checks off a lot of boxes.
- 3:53Speaker 10: And I feel like this conversation is going to be
- 3:55Speaker 10: a multi fascon one very interesting, from the health side,
- 3:58Speaker 10: to the business side, to social media side, author to
- 4:03Speaker 10: family life.
- 4:04Speaker 9: Is a lot of a lot of things happening here.
- 4:06Speaker 5: And the journey is incredible.
- 4:07Speaker 11: I think people you know may not know the journey,
- 4:10Speaker 11: but a lot of character building goes inside that journey.
- 4:14Speaker 11: A lot of you become and the things you've learned
- 4:17Speaker 11: help you later in the future, and all the things
- 4:19Speaker 11: you've been doing. So that that part is it's super
- 4:22Speaker 11: like you said, inspiring, super inspiring.
- 4:24Speaker 9: So yeah, first of almost, thank you for being here, appreciate.
- 4:27Speaker 7: It, thank you for having me.
- 4:28Speaker 9: No problem.
- 4:29Speaker 10: So all right, so let's get into this. I know
- 4:31Speaker 10: you're from North Carolina. Yes, born and raised. Yes, small town.
- 4:37Speaker 10: Shout out to eating. Shout out to everybody. Ain't eating
- 4:40Speaker 10: all five people.
- 4:41Speaker 11: All, seventy y'all, thirteen, twenty y'all in the city we
- 4:47Speaker 11: love all. I just added the whole city of listeners.
- 4:54Speaker 10: But all right, so how does this journey start? I know,
- 4:57Speaker 10: you know you became a vegan because of health issues.
- 5:00Speaker 10: She was also an actor, right, and then you go
- 5:04Speaker 10: extremely viral on social media in a very short period
- 5:07Speaker 10: of time. That's an accomplishment within itself. I don't think
- 5:11Speaker 10: I've ever heard anybody ever doing that. But all right,
- 5:14Speaker 10: so where does it start as far as for you
- 5:16Speaker 10: on your journey to where you are now? Does it
- 5:18Speaker 10: start with the vegan or does it start with being
- 5:22Speaker 10: an actress? And like, how does it get to like
- 5:25Speaker 10: this where we're at now?
- 5:26Speaker 7: I mean, you can't get here without the beginning it started.
- 5:32Speaker 7: And you know, as a child, I always wanted to
- 5:34Speaker 7: be an actor.
- 5:35Speaker 6: I grew up watching Cosby Show, and my first introduction
- 5:39Speaker 6: to acting or really understanding what it meant, I saw
- 5:43Speaker 6: myself in Rudy and I was like, I want to
- 5:46Speaker 6: do that.
- 5:46Speaker 7: I want to be Rudy Springing. So I told my mom.
- 5:49Speaker 6: She said, oh, you want to be Rudy spreend. I
- 5:50Speaker 6: was like, no, only in the TV. And it was like, oh,
- 5:53Speaker 6: that means you want to be an actor. And so
- 5:55Speaker 6: I spent all my childhood trying to figure out, oh,
- 5:57Speaker 6: how do I do this thing?
- 5:58Speaker 7: Because you know, for me and so, nobody was an actor.
- 6:02Speaker 6: And so I started doing you know, plays in school
- 6:05Speaker 6: and I would tell any teacher if there was a production, oh,
- 6:08Speaker 6: I want.
- 6:08Speaker 7: To be an actor.
- 6:09Speaker 6: Now that I know what this word mean. So they
- 6:11Speaker 6: would put me in plays and church theater. I grew
- 6:14Speaker 6: up in the church, so doing church theater, community theater,
- 6:17Speaker 6: anything I could to perform. In high school, I started
- 6:22Speaker 6: making clothes, and so when it was time to go
- 6:25Speaker 6: to college, my mom was like, you know, I know
- 6:27Speaker 6: you want to be an actor, but we don't know
- 6:29Speaker 6: anybody who's done that.
- 6:31Speaker 7: And she wasn't trying to discourage me.
- 6:33Speaker 6: She was, I think, doing what she was used to doing, like,
- 6:36Speaker 6: you know, creating a plan B to make sure I
- 6:38Speaker 6: was all right. And so my great great aunt was
- 6:41Speaker 6: our town seamstress, and so she was like, we do
- 6:44Speaker 6: know somebody who makes clothes for a living, So you
- 6:46Speaker 6: should go to school for fashion design. Then you can
- 6:48Speaker 6: do that while you try to pursue your acting. And
- 6:50Speaker 6: I thought that was like, okay, that's a good idea,
- 6:53Speaker 6: I guess, And so I went to school to study
- 6:55Speaker 6: fashion in Miami when I left Eden, and I was
- 6:58Speaker 6: there for like the first US and woke up one
- 7:00Speaker 6: night I was like, yeah, this saint did I'm supposed
- 7:02Speaker 6: to be acting?
- 7:03Speaker 7: And I called my daddy. I'm a daddy's girl, and
- 7:06Speaker 7: my daddy worked real hard, and I said, did he
- 7:08Speaker 7: better come get me a wasting your money. I'm supposed
- 7:11Speaker 7: to be pursuing acting.
- 7:11Speaker 6: And so I went back home to Eden now trying
- 7:15Speaker 6: to figure out, like, Okay, how do.
- 7:16Speaker 7: I get to this dream that I have? And uh, I.
- 7:20Speaker 6: Applied to Columbia College in Chicago. Me and my mama
- 7:23Speaker 6: went out there in the spring, because that's how they.
- 7:25Speaker 7: Get you, you know, this is nice.
- 7:30Speaker 6: Got accepted and worked off some of the like you know,
- 7:33Speaker 6: save money and stuff. I was working at American Express
- 7:36Speaker 6: and I it was like two weeks before it was
- 7:39Speaker 6: time to go to school and got a letter in
- 7:41Speaker 6: the middle said hey, unfortunately, do to your financial aid
- 7:45Speaker 6: that I had at the school in Miami. They couldn't
- 7:47Speaker 6: approve my financial aid for Columbia and I ain't had
- 7:50Speaker 6: that much money that I had saved over the summer,
- 7:52Speaker 6: so I didn't get to go, and.
- 7:54Speaker 7: I was still stuck in Eden, like now what do
- 7:57Speaker 7: I do?
- 7:58Speaker 6: And I remember my mom had knew somebody that lived
- 8:00Speaker 6: in California had told me, you know what, if you
- 8:03Speaker 6: ever want to come to California, you can come in
- 8:05Speaker 6: rent a room. And I was like, oh, I wonder
- 8:08Speaker 6: if she'll still let me come out there. So I
- 8:09Speaker 6: was like I'm just going to go to California try
- 8:11Speaker 6: to pursue my dreams. I had no gold. I just
- 8:14Speaker 6: had the dream and so went out there. Now the lady,
- 8:19Speaker 6: you know, she told me I could in the room.
- 8:20Speaker 6: She didn't tell me she was crazy. Didn't say that part.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Those are the details.
- 8:24Speaker 7: Yeah, yes, she left that part out mission right.
- 8:29Speaker 6: So I was out there for you know, a while,
- 8:31Speaker 6: and my husband, who was my boyfriend at the time
- 8:33Speaker 6: we're talking, were in ninety eight and he came out
- 8:37Speaker 6: there because our goal was to like move there together.
- 8:40Speaker 6: I was not in La I was way down in
- 8:43Speaker 6: like Laguna the guel beautiful, but not Hollywood, and I
- 8:49Speaker 6: was doing no acting. I was working two jobs, trying
- 8:51Speaker 6: to survive. And my husband came out there and he
- 8:53Speaker 6: was like, this is crazy. We need to move back
- 8:55Speaker 6: to North Carolina and save up money for a year
- 8:58Speaker 6: and then moved back to La so you can really
- 8:59Speaker 6: pursue your dream. And I was like, all right, I
- 9:02Speaker 6: guess that's a good idea of moved back.
- 9:05Speaker 7: To North Carolina.
- 9:06Speaker 6: And it was supposed to be a one year planning
- 9:09Speaker 6: and the one year turned into five years, a baby,
- 9:11Speaker 6: and you know, we got married and jobs responsibilities and
- 9:16Speaker 6: I've forgotten dream. I convinced myself that I could not
- 9:19Speaker 6: have this because you know, I'm from a small town.
- 9:22Speaker 7: Get a baby early, that's it.
- 9:25Speaker 6: You get a job, and you get a house, and
- 9:26Speaker 6: you live happily ever after. That's kind of like the mentality.
- 9:30Speaker 6: And so I was pretty content. I was working at UPS.
- 9:33Speaker 6: I was a manager at a call center, and so
- 9:37Speaker 6: one day God woke me up out my sleep and
- 9:39Speaker 6: it felt like earthquake had happened in Greensboro. And I
- 9:45Speaker 6: heard a voice and said, this is not the life
- 9:47Speaker 6: I planned for you. And I was like, okay, Lord,
- 9:50Speaker 6: this is you speaking to me. I'm gonna need you
- 9:52Speaker 6: to show me a sign today. And I told my
- 9:55Speaker 6: husband what happened. I think he thought I was crazy.
- 9:57Speaker 6: It's like I'm telling I heard this voice. It sounded
- 9:59Speaker 6: like thunder. And so later that day I was on
- 10:01Speaker 6: my way to tomorrow with my husband and my daughter
- 10:03Speaker 6: and on the radio, Bust the Brown, who was our
- 10:07Speaker 6: you know, the DJ in the city. He came on
- 10:10Speaker 6: and was like, Hey, I'm holding auditions, got a new
- 10:12Speaker 6: TV show. I'm looking for a female co host. And
- 10:14Speaker 6: I almost like bust the windows out the car I
- 10:17Speaker 6: was like, that's the sign I prayed for.
- 10:19Speaker 7: So I went to the audition and I booked it.
- 10:21Speaker 7: Was my first audition for television. Booked it.
- 10:23Speaker 6: And that's what made me start dreaming again and believing
- 10:26Speaker 6: that I could maybe still have my dreams.
- 10:29Speaker 7: And so I did that for like a year.
- 10:30Speaker 6: Learned to produce my own segments, and I was a
- 10:33Speaker 6: rolling correspondent. Really, I was interviewing all the celebrities when
- 10:36Speaker 6: they would come for concerts and things like that. And
- 10:39Speaker 6: I'm doing that for like a year. I started doing
- 10:40Speaker 6: theater again and short films whatever I could. I would
- 10:43Speaker 6: drive three hours to do extra work on One Tree
- 10:45Speaker 6: Hill and my day told us, so, okay, now it's
- 10:48Speaker 6: time to move back to LA And he was like,
- 10:50Speaker 6: oh no, we can't do that.
- 10:51Speaker 7: We got this little baby.
- 10:53Speaker 6: And what was he doing working at a call center
- 10:56Speaker 6: and he was doing music too.
- 10:57Speaker 7: He had built a studio in the house.
- 11:00Speaker 6: But it was the fear of like, we got a
- 11:03Speaker 6: small baby, and he had already you know, had a
- 11:05Speaker 6: baby earlier too. He was like, we can't, we can't
- 11:09Speaker 6: do that. I was like, well, listen, in my mind,
- 11:10Speaker 6: I thought I had some money. I ain't out of money, right,
- 11:13Speaker 6: but I was making like twelve dollars an hour. I
- 11:15Speaker 6: was like, I will move to LA and come back
- 11:18Speaker 6: and forth. And he was like, oh no, we ain't
- 11:20Speaker 6: doing that. Oh God, yeah, so let's plan it out.
- 11:25Speaker 6: And so we planned it out and we moved. I
- 11:27Speaker 6: think we had like eight thousand dollars we saved up
- 11:29Speaker 6: and we moved in two thousand and four, and I've
- 11:33Speaker 6: been out here pursuing acting ever since then.
- 11:37Speaker 7: A lot of small victories.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Nobody knew me as actress, right, but I loved it
- 11:41Speaker 6: for free. A lot of things that should have stopped
- 11:47Speaker 6: me from pursuing happened. You know, as soon as I
- 11:53Speaker 6: got out here. You know, when you hear the voice
- 11:54Speaker 6: of God, you were like, I know they waiting on me.
- 11:56Speaker 6: And I got out here and want nobody wait on me.
- 12:00Speaker 6: Nobody was waiting, right, So.
- 12:05Speaker 7: It was like, you better go get this job.
- 12:09Speaker 9: Talked to me again.
- 12:12Speaker 6: And my mama got sick right after we moved, maybe
- 12:16Speaker 6: six months we were here, and she was diagnosed with ALS,
- 12:20Speaker 6: which is terminal and you only get one mama, you know,
- 12:25Speaker 6: And I had an amazing mama. And so I went
- 12:27Speaker 6: back and forth for the next three years. To help
- 12:29Speaker 6: take care of her until she passed away. And then
- 12:32Speaker 6: I just thought like I just got to take any
- 12:34Speaker 6: job I can to pursue my acting, like I gotta
- 12:37Speaker 6: do it. And so back when Blockbuster was a thing,
- 12:40Speaker 6: I did a lot of films that went straight to DVD.
- 12:44Speaker 7: Uh, straight to Walmart type of thing.
- 12:46Speaker 6: Yes, yes, something that I'd be like, please just don't
- 12:50Speaker 6: even look them up. It's nothing to see here, okay, Right,
- 12:58Speaker 6: And so I did you know, music videos, I did commercials.
- 13:03Speaker 6: I did a lot of like you know, small roles
- 13:05Speaker 6: and things, but nothing ever broke. However, every job I did,
- 13:09Speaker 6: I thought it was the one.
- 13:11Speaker 7: I thought this was gonna be the thing that blew
- 13:12Speaker 7: me up. My husband's always telling me here like men,
- 13:14Speaker 7: it didn't matter if it was fifty dollars. He was like,
- 13:16Speaker 7: this the one.
- 13:17Speaker 6: But I just always believed that, you know, in my heart,
- 13:20Speaker 6: there was always this thing inside of me that was
- 13:22Speaker 6: saying something big was coming. And then in twenty sixteen,
- 13:27Speaker 6: I felt like I was finally getting to a good place.
- 13:32Speaker 6: I just went to Sundance for the first time. I
- 13:34Speaker 6: was like, man, I feel like my career is really
- 13:36Speaker 6: starting to like kind of take off in a different level,
- 13:41Speaker 6: and I think I had booked like my first like
- 13:44Speaker 6: guest star and co star like on TV, like you know,
- 13:48Speaker 6: and then I got sick, like out of nowhere.
- 13:51Speaker 7: I just woke up.
- 13:51Speaker 6: I had this headache in the back of my head
- 13:54Speaker 6: and they had ache rested there for a year and
- 13:57Speaker 6: seven months. It was accompanied by chronic fatigue, crying of
- 14:02Speaker 6: pain throughout my body. I began to fall when I
- 14:05Speaker 6: would walk. As a woman. All this stuff was like
- 14:09Speaker 6: shutting down. It was not functioning properly. Doctors can't figure
- 14:14Speaker 6: out what was wrong with me. I did everything that
- 14:17Speaker 6: you can imagine. I've had blood work mrs weekly monthly.
- 14:22Speaker 6: I was taking every drug the doctor's offered me, and
- 14:27Speaker 6: if anything, I was probably getting worse because they couldn't
- 14:29Speaker 6: figure out.
- 14:29Speaker 7: What it was.
- 14:29Speaker 6: I was like a guinea people, you know, when you
- 14:31Speaker 6: don't know what's wrong with you, be like, yeah, I
- 14:33Speaker 6: take it.
- 14:34Speaker 5: You know.
- 14:34Speaker 6: They would, you know, shoot me up in the head
- 14:36Speaker 6: and giving me all kinds of steroids. But it didn't work.
- 14:42Speaker 6: And so my daughter came home from school and they
- 14:44Speaker 6: was like, we saw this documentary. I think you should
- 14:46Speaker 6: watch it at school, and it was what the hell
- 14:48Speaker 6: I watched that Netflix on Netflix, watched it as a
- 14:52Speaker 6: family and was like, oh, this is something that I've
- 14:56Speaker 6: never tried.
- 14:57Speaker 5: Right.
- 14:59Speaker 6: It was also, you know one of those things you
- 15:01Speaker 6: kind of hear about you like that ain't really for
- 15:02Speaker 6: black people. But I was like, when they started talking
- 15:05Speaker 6: about all diseases are not hereditaries that we sometimes we
- 15:09Speaker 6: can eat the same thing that caused the same disease.
- 15:11Speaker 6: In our family. My mama died at fifty one. My
- 15:15Speaker 6: daddy is seventy one. He's older men oldest man to
- 15:18Speaker 6: have a live in our family. People die young, and
- 15:20Speaker 6: it gets sick at young ages in my family. And
- 15:23Speaker 6: so I was like, let me try to go vegan
- 15:26Speaker 6: for like thirty days and see what happened. I ain't
- 15:28Speaker 6: got nothing to lose at this point, because I did
- 15:30Speaker 6: think I was gonna die and did it, and in
- 15:34Speaker 6: the first ten days, the headache I had every day
- 15:36Speaker 6: for a year and seven months disappeared, and I started
- 15:39Speaker 6: getting energy again. I started feeling better, and I was like, Oh,
- 15:43Speaker 6: I think I'm onto something.
- 15:44Speaker 7: And I told my husband. I was like, this is
- 15:45Speaker 7: gonna be my life. I'm gonna go vegan.
- 15:47Speaker 6: And that's literally how I got on that journey, and
- 15:52Speaker 6: prior to doing that, I had got to really dark place.
- 15:57Speaker 6: I was suffering from anxiety and depression and I had
- 16:02Speaker 6: what you know, I grew up in the church from
- 16:03Speaker 6: the South, and I always prided myself on having this
- 16:06Speaker 6: great relationship with God. And I had what I called
- 16:11Speaker 6: my last call and conversation with Him in the bathroom
- 16:15Speaker 6: because I thought he had forgotten about me when I
- 16:17Speaker 6: was sick, and so I went in the bathroom. I
- 16:19Speaker 6: got in the mirror and I was really in search
- 16:22Speaker 6: of trying to see my soul and I pregnant. I
- 16:26Speaker 6: was like, God, if you heal me, you can have me.
- 16:29Speaker 6: And I meant it, and something changed that day in
- 16:35Speaker 6: the bathroom.
- 16:35Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 16:36Speaker 6: When I walked out, I felt different. I didn't feel healed,
- 16:38Speaker 6: but I felt different. And then you know, later as
- 16:43Speaker 6: when my daughter had came home about the documentary. But
- 16:47Speaker 6: a couple of weeks after that, I had had this dream.
- 16:50Speaker 6: And if you've read my book, you know I have
- 16:52Speaker 6: a gift I was born with. Ever since I was
- 16:55Speaker 6: a kid, I dreamed things and they come to past.
- 16:58Speaker 6: I see things that other people don't see. And I
- 17:02Speaker 6: saw myself on a show and I was like, now, God,
- 17:05Speaker 6: how was I on the show Because I'm sick. I'm
- 17:07Speaker 6: not even auditioning. I used to do stand up trying
- 17:09Speaker 6: to get a TV show stand up. I'm not doing
- 17:12Speaker 6: any things that I usually would do. And I was like, well,
- 17:16Speaker 6: revealed that to me. How was I on a show
- 17:18Speaker 6: if I am not working towards it? And I heard
- 17:23Speaker 6: a voice that said start doing videos and I was like, oh, yeah, no,
- 17:26Speaker 6: I ain't goin to do that. You know, I ain't
- 17:28Speaker 6: gonna do no videos because as an actor, we've been
- 17:32Speaker 6: told in Hollywood, and you got to know that I
- 17:35Speaker 6: was a person who was not free, so I believed
- 17:38Speaker 6: anything that was told to me to make it in Hollywood,
- 17:42Speaker 6: and so I would always be told you do videos,
- 17:43Speaker 6: Nobody gonna take you serious in Hollywood.
- 17:46Speaker 11: You're talking And I can imagine that from a standpoint
- 17:49Speaker 11: where like you've been training at this profession for so long,
- 17:53Speaker 11: it almost feels like to now do a video on
- 17:55Speaker 11: a phone, it's like.
- 17:57Speaker 9: A social media video social media.
- 17:59Speaker 11: Yeah, Like it's almost like not a downgrade, but you
- 18:02Speaker 11: feel like I worked all that hard.
- 18:04Speaker 5: To do this.
- 18:05Speaker 7: It wasn't even that it was to me, It was
- 18:08Speaker 7: more of.
- 18:10Speaker 6: They won't take me serious, because you know, there was
- 18:13Speaker 6: also like the Vine error. And I had a lot
- 18:16Speaker 6: of friends who we all acted together. We came up
- 18:19Speaker 6: producing and acting and doing our own thing together, started
- 18:22Speaker 6: doing Vine, and I was the person that was like, oh,
- 18:24Speaker 6: y'all ain't gonna make it. I thought I was better.
- 18:28Speaker 6: I had this thing where I really believe. You know,
- 18:31Speaker 6: when you ain't free, you like to look down on others,
- 18:34Speaker 6: or you like to think that you're doing it the
- 18:36Speaker 6: right way, not your way, but the right way is
- 18:39Speaker 6: what you're thinking because you have conformed right. So I
- 18:43Speaker 6: went from corporate America conforming code switching to entertainment conforming
- 18:49Speaker 6: and code switching. So I believed that I had to
- 18:53Speaker 6: fit a certain box in order to be successful. And
- 18:57Speaker 6: so when God spoke to me and said it started
- 18:59Speaker 6: to be I was like, I can't do that.
- 19:01Speaker 7: But then he reminded me.
- 19:02Speaker 6: He said, you know, you said if I hear you,
- 19:04Speaker 6: I can have you, which meant I had to start
- 19:06Speaker 6: being obedient to what I heard from him.
- 19:09Speaker 7: And so I was like, okay, So I started doing
- 19:12Speaker 7: these videos.
- 19:12Speaker 6: When I first started doing videos, I was just kind
- 19:15Speaker 6: of doing the same sets I would do when I
- 19:16Speaker 6: was a comedian. I would, you know, talk about being
- 19:19Speaker 6: a mom and a wife. And I still had not
- 19:24Speaker 6: healed myself yet. I was not feeling completely better yet.
- 19:28Speaker 6: And so when I did the Beacon Challenge and started
- 19:31Speaker 6: feeling better, and after the thirty days, I told my husband, like,
- 19:34Speaker 6: this is going to be my life.
- 19:35Speaker 7: That same voice I heard say, now tell people what
- 19:37Speaker 7: you're eating in your videos.
- 19:39Speaker 6: And I was like, wait a minute, now, Lord, because
- 19:41Speaker 6: I also had shaved off all my hair. See I
- 19:43Speaker 6: always want my hairberry long and straight. I was always
- 19:45Speaker 6: a certain size. I would wave myself like ten twelve
- 19:48Speaker 6: times a day trying to fit this look. I always
- 19:51Speaker 6: cover my accent, everything I was programmed to do. So
- 19:55Speaker 6: I was taking layers off. It's like God was dealing
- 19:57Speaker 6: with me on becoming he created me to be, and so.
- 20:04Speaker 7: I was very scared.
- 20:06Speaker 6: I was like, Lord, I didn't shave off all my hair,
- 20:08Speaker 6: and I'm really trying to be obedient to be who
- 20:11Speaker 6: you created me to be.
- 20:13Speaker 7: But this is scary, but okay.
- 20:16Speaker 6: So I started doing videos and said, hey, y'all'm going vegan,
- 20:18Speaker 6: Like it ain't a challenge now, like this is gonna
- 20:20Speaker 6: be my life.
- 20:21Speaker 7: It follows Hi, maybe three thousand.
- 20:26Speaker 9: What platform?
- 20:27Speaker 7: Facebook?
- 20:28Speaker 9: Facebook?
- 20:29Speaker 11: And at the time you're doing acting as indie, but
- 20:33Speaker 11: you're also are is your Uber driver at this point?
- 20:37Speaker 7: Not yet?
- 20:37Speaker 6: Okay, So, because this is August of twenty seventeen, so
- 20:43Speaker 6: I started feeling better about October.
- 20:46Speaker 7: I told my husband.
- 20:46Speaker 6: I was like, I'm gonna go drive Uber because now
- 20:48Speaker 6: I'm feeling good. I'm doing these videos every day. I
- 20:51Speaker 6: don't know why, because god, you know, he spoke to me.
- 20:54Speaker 6: He said, listen, you were trying to get a TV
- 20:55Speaker 6: show out doing stand up. You was reaching like fifteen
- 20:58Speaker 6: thirty people a night. You start doing these videos, you're
- 21:01Speaker 6: gonna reach thousands and minutes. And I said, well, lord,
- 21:03Speaker 6: I ain't even got thousands of follow us to reach
- 21:04Speaker 6: a minutes. Most of my fathers was my family and
- 21:07Speaker 6: my friends back in North Carolina, you.
- 21:08Speaker 5: Know, yeah Altonio, listen, Okay.
- 21:11Speaker 7: But I was like, I got to be obedient.
- 21:14Speaker 6: Yeah, and so, and I was also doing things on
- 21:18Speaker 6: my personal Facebook page. I ain't know nothing about monetizer,
- 21:21Speaker 6: I ain't no none of that stuff, excuse me. And
- 21:24Speaker 6: so I was like, all right, I'm going live every day.
- 21:27Speaker 6: I'm cooking in my kitchen when I find stuff, I
- 21:31Speaker 6: tell people, oh, I found a beacon option. I would
- 21:34Speaker 6: get like thirty people on my life, you know, one
- 21:37Speaker 6: hundred views after you know, a day or two on
- 21:39Speaker 6: my videos, and if you watch like some of my
- 21:42Speaker 6: earlier videos, I would cry on the videos sometime while
- 21:44Speaker 6: I was cooking because I'm like, I don't know why
- 21:46Speaker 6: God got me doing this. He told me thousands and
- 21:49Speaker 6: minutes it is thirty three people on here.
- 21:51Speaker 7: What do he have me do? And I also never wanted.
- 21:54Speaker 6: To do anything with food, never, but I was just
- 21:58Speaker 6: being obedient. And so October is when I told my
- 22:02Speaker 6: husband I'm gonna drive Uber because now I'm feeling good
- 22:05Speaker 6: and I had, man my savings. What a little bit
- 22:08Speaker 6: that I had was gone, you know. And my husband
- 22:10Speaker 6: is my partner, not my provider. And so I was like,
- 22:14Speaker 6: I'm gonna go get discovered in my car because I'm
- 22:16Speaker 6: in LA. I'm probably gonna pick up a director or producer.
- 22:19Speaker 6: They gonna love me, okay, And I call you from
- 22:22Speaker 6: the set. That's how my mind be working. And my
- 22:25Speaker 6: husband's like, okay, damn all right. So I started driving
- 22:28Speaker 6: Uber in October and December thirtieth, I dropped somebody off
- 22:34Speaker 6: and you know about Whole Foods, and I was still
- 22:36Speaker 6: a new vegan.
- 22:37Speaker 7: I always don't hold Foo's got a vegan option. So
- 22:39Speaker 7: I went in there.
- 22:40Speaker 6: I said, I put myself on a little Uber break
- 22:41Speaker 6: give me a little breakfast. And I went in and
- 22:44Speaker 6: got a sandwich. I had never heard a vegan bacon
- 22:46Speaker 6: at that time, and that was the sandwich that TTLA
- 22:49Speaker 6: and ate the first half and I was like, oh shoot,
- 22:52Speaker 6: I need to do a video to tell people.
- 22:53Speaker 7: I found a new vegan option. So I did the
- 22:55Speaker 7: video sitting in my car and I went on back
- 22:58Speaker 7: to driv an uber.
- 22:59Speaker 6: When I got home and I turned my you know,
- 23:01Speaker 6: notifications on my phone, was like going crazy.
- 23:03Speaker 7: I was like, we're watching this video. The video had like.
- 23:06Speaker 6: Fifty thousand views and I was like on Facebook. On Facebook,
- 23:11Speaker 6: and the next morning it had over one hundred and
- 23:13Speaker 6: some thousand. And I told us I said, I think
- 23:15Speaker 6: I'm going viral, and he was like what that means.
- 23:18Speaker 6: I was like, I don't know. He said, well, you're
- 23:20Speaker 6: gonna make some money. I was like, I don't know.
- 23:23Speaker 6: And four days later, Whole Foods DM me on Facebook
- 23:26Speaker 6: and they were like, we saw your video. We love
- 23:28Speaker 6: to partner with you, and I partnered with them. That
- 23:32Speaker 6: was like my first partnership. The sandwich was like something
- 23:37Speaker 6: that had never happened for Whole Foods. The sandwich was
- 23:40Speaker 6: only available in the southern California region, but after the video,
- 23:46Speaker 6: people were requesting it nationwide. So in thirty days, they
- 23:50Speaker 6: rolled it out all over the nation and it became
- 23:54Speaker 6: like I was.
- 23:54Speaker 7: It was like my sandwich.
- 23:55Speaker 6: I had also changed the name of the sandwich because
- 23:57Speaker 6: in my excitement, I said the name of the sandwich wrong.
- 24:01Speaker 6: So they changed the name of the sandwich in TTLA,
- 24:04Speaker 6: and so I changed their market for them. It had
- 24:08Speaker 6: never been done, and I think see you said over
- 24:12Speaker 6: thirty years. He was like, how did you do that?
- 24:16Speaker 6: I also gave them a new customer, and so they
- 24:18Speaker 6: changed their market, right, so they had the Whole Foods
- 24:23Speaker 6: was not a place where black people were shopping, right,
- 24:25Speaker 6: especially not like my following right, which grew overnight. There
- 24:33Speaker 6: were churches in the South taking buses to go to
- 24:36Speaker 6: the nearest Whole food together to try the sandwich. You know,
- 24:39Speaker 6: people were planning trips to go to Whole Foods because
- 24:42Speaker 6: like where I'm from, there's no Whole Foods. You got
- 24:44Speaker 6: to drive about forty five minutes for an hour, and
- 24:47Speaker 6: so I was giving them that and it just it
- 24:51Speaker 6: sold out every day for nine months straight, like they
- 24:54Speaker 6: couldn't keep it instart.
- 24:55Speaker 7: Even the bacon that company reached.
- 24:57Speaker 5: Out, it's Temple Bacon.
- 24:59Speaker 7: Yeah, it was ten Bae.
- 25:01Speaker 5: Bacon, tomato, lettuce and avocado. Yeah, T T L.
- 25:03Speaker 7: Yeah gotcha. I put a little pickle on it.
- 25:06Speaker 5: Okay, don't forget that.
- 25:09Speaker 7: But yeah.
- 25:10Speaker 6: So that's what began this part of tail, and I
- 25:15Speaker 6: realized I was like, oh wait, I can really make
- 25:17Speaker 6: money doing this. Okay, I don't know how it's gonna
- 25:22Speaker 6: keep happening, but I'm just gonna keep doing what I've
- 25:24Speaker 6: been doing. And what that was was being organic, being
- 25:28Speaker 6: in the moment, and I've continued to do that.
- 25:33Speaker 5: How this is that so within a week you got
- 25:36Speaker 5: a million views?
- 25:37Speaker 11: Obviously they reach out within the first week say we
- 25:39Speaker 11: want to partner at that point, because it's like who
- 25:42Speaker 11: do you even follow to say like this is how
- 25:44Speaker 11: you partner with a major brand.
- 25:46Speaker 6: I called all my friends that had been doing influencer work, right,
- 25:52Speaker 6: and I was like, what do I do?
- 25:54Speaker 7: How much do I charge? And nobody will help me
- 25:57Speaker 7: they wouldn't tell me.
- 25:59Speaker 6: So I was like, Okay, I know how SAG work,
- 26:04Speaker 6: like the Union, but it's a different world. And I
- 26:08Speaker 6: had a manager at the time that I had just
- 26:10Speaker 6: signed with to try to like start getting like auditions
- 26:13Speaker 6: in Atlanta, and she knew nothing. And all my old
- 26:16Speaker 6: agents knew nothing about social media. They were like, girl,
- 26:20Speaker 6: this is just a little phase.
- 26:22Speaker 7: Like they couldn't help me. And so.
- 26:26Speaker 6: I was like, Okay, I'm gonna just go as big
- 26:29Speaker 6: as I can and ask for a crazy amount of
- 26:31Speaker 6: money and see what they say. And they were like, hmm,
- 26:35Speaker 6: we can't give it to you at once, but what
- 26:37Speaker 6: if we break it up and you do a couple
- 26:39Speaker 6: of other things throughout the year for us. And I
- 26:42Speaker 6: was like okay, right, because I didn't know. I didn't
- 26:46Speaker 6: even have an attorney at this time, you know. And
- 26:50Speaker 6: then I had a friend who was a producer, Steven Love,
- 26:54Speaker 6: and he's super smart and he and I have been
- 26:57Speaker 6: trying to develop a show together. And I called Steve
- 27:01Speaker 6: and I said, you're gonna be my manager. He was like, oh, no,
- 27:05Speaker 6: I'll tell you I ain't a manager. I'm ann producer.
- 27:06Speaker 6: I said, I know, but I didne prayed about it,
- 27:08Speaker 6: and God told me you're gonna be my manager, and
- 27:10Speaker 6: so me and Steven figured it out together.
- 27:14Speaker 7: H And we probably did about fifty six deals together.
- 27:17Speaker 6: And when one deal was like okay, this money, when
- 27:21Speaker 6: they said yes, too quick, we was like, oh, we know,
- 27:22Speaker 6: were too low. So on the next deal, we was like,
- 27:25Speaker 6: go higher and see what they say. Oh they said, yeah,
- 27:29Speaker 6: oh we're still too low. So that's how we kind
- 27:31Speaker 6: of learned over the years. You know, we worked together
- 27:35Speaker 6: for like two years.
- 27:36Speaker 7: We're still producing parties like he's still my my.
- 27:39Speaker 6: My number one, that's my guy, but now of course
- 27:42Speaker 6: I have a team. And then really learned that, oh we.
- 27:44Speaker 7: Was we was real low. I ked up been making
- 27:47Speaker 7: more money.
- 27:48Speaker 9: So let me ask you.
- 27:49Speaker 10: I want to go back to this social media because
- 27:50Speaker 10: it's interesting you you gained two million followers in five weeks?
- 27:54Speaker 9: Is that correct?
- 27:55Speaker 6: So that so that is on TikTok happened happened ye
- 28:01Speaker 6: later after Yeah.
- 28:02Speaker 7: That was twenty twenty.
- 28:03Speaker 6: So March December thirtieth of twenty seventeen, I had no
- 28:08Speaker 6: you know, just normal followers. By January fourth, I had
- 28:12Speaker 6: like I can't even tell you, not a million, but
- 28:15Speaker 6: hundreds of that.
- 28:16Speaker 7: They were just happening every day on faces on Facebook.
- 28:18Speaker 9: Was on Facebook Facebook.
- 28:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 6: I would post a little bit on Instagram, but Facebook
- 28:22Speaker 6: was my platform and I probably gain maybe a million. No,
- 28:29Speaker 6: I was like five hundred thousand by twenty twenty. So
- 28:33Speaker 6: from twenty eighteen to twenty twe I had like five
- 28:35Speaker 6: hundred thousand on Facebook and I had three hundred thousand
- 28:39Speaker 6: on Instagram. March of twenty twenty, my daughter told me
- 28:42Speaker 6: to get on TikTok and I was like girl with
- 28:44Speaker 6: them kids. She was like, Mommy, you can be like
- 28:46Speaker 6: the mom of TikTok. Look, you know, do your recipes,
- 28:49Speaker 6: do your inspirational videos, the same stuff I do on Facebook.
- 28:52Speaker 7: I got on there the first.
- 28:54Speaker 6: Week, I went viral on TikTok. In thirty days, I
- 28:57Speaker 6: had a million followers. A week later I had two million,
- 29:00Speaker 6: and it just kept growing.
- 29:01Speaker 10: So what are some best practices that you use for
- 29:04Speaker 10: social cause it might have started as a mistake, but
- 29:07Speaker 10: you don't have that level of success by accident. So
- 29:10Speaker 10: you have to be doing things that you know are
- 29:14Speaker 10: working and you've kind of met you've mastered it right so.
- 29:19Speaker 7: Well, for me, I was doing what was real and natural.
- 29:23Speaker 6: For me, I never planned a post unless it was
- 29:26Speaker 6: a branded post, and I still don't do that.
- 29:30Speaker 7: I do what I feel.
- 29:32Speaker 6: Right when I was first doing videos, it's like what
- 29:35Speaker 6: I had to taste for, that's what I'm gonna cook
- 29:37Speaker 6: and I'm gonna just share that.
- 29:38Speaker 10: But there's no like second take or no, it's not stage.
- 29:42Speaker 9: It would be live, just organic.
- 29:44Speaker 5: This is just this camera would be on, it.
- 29:46Speaker 7: Would be live. So whatever happened happened.
- 29:49Speaker 5: Did you ever feel the pressure to try to have success?
- 29:52Speaker 11: Obviously you've been. You were doing the videos, you got
- 29:55Speaker 11: one that goes ridiculously viral. Do you feel in the
- 29:59Speaker 11: back of your mind like, well, I got to create
- 30:01Speaker 11: something similar to have the same time success or it's
- 30:03Speaker 11: like I'm just staying sticking to the script of what
- 30:06Speaker 11: I know.
- 30:06Speaker 7: I'm gonna stick because you got to also remember I
- 30:09Speaker 7: didn't know the.
- 30:09Speaker 5: World, right, right, I didn't know you don't know what
- 30:12Speaker 5: you'all know.
- 30:12Speaker 6: So I was just like, I'm gonna just keep being consistent, right,
- 30:16Speaker 6: I'm gonna just keep doing the videos.
- 30:17Speaker 7: They like that, I guess they'll like this.
- 30:20Speaker 6: If they don't, they don't, But I'm only really doing
- 30:23Speaker 6: what I think God has called me to do right now,
- 30:25Speaker 6: I'm just trying to be obedient because I also didn't
- 30:28Speaker 6: want to do nothing with food.
- 30:29Speaker 7: So for him to.
- 30:31Speaker 6: Bless me in a way that I had not planned
- 30:34Speaker 6: because I had many plans for acting.
- 30:37Speaker 7: I mean, I could give you the layout. Food was
- 30:41Speaker 7: never a part of my plan.
- 30:42Speaker 6: So I was like, I just got to trust God
- 30:44Speaker 6: and keep doing this every day and sharing.
- 30:49Speaker 7: But I had no.
- 30:52Speaker 6: Recipe for success other than being true to who I am.
- 30:57Speaker 6: That was the hardest part for me, taking off the
- 31:00Speaker 6: layers of the old tab because I was, you know,
- 31:05Speaker 6: in my own words, like I was a fraud for
- 31:08Speaker 6: a very long time because I wasn't the true me,
- 31:11Speaker 6: because I created this other Tabitha that I thought could
- 31:15Speaker 6: win in Hollywood, right the straight hair, the thin, the
- 31:20Speaker 6: you know, very neutral accent, because I told her, I,
- 31:24Speaker 6: you know, I had been told I was ignorant for
- 31:26Speaker 6: having a Southern dialect, you country, you know, and always
- 31:32Speaker 6: in a negative so I always would try to cover that.
- 31:36Speaker 6: So now I was like, God told me he can't
- 31:39Speaker 6: bless who I'm not right, How is he gonna bless
- 31:43Speaker 6: me if I ain't me? So I was like, I
- 31:45Speaker 6: gotta start taking these layers off and show up his
- 31:47Speaker 6: tab every day.
- 31:48Speaker 7: This is like.
- 31:49Speaker 6: My my season of becoming me. It was more about
- 31:56Speaker 6: that than anything else. It won't about nobody else. I
- 32:00Speaker 6: was just trying to figure out what he wanted me
- 32:01Speaker 6: to do.
- 32:03Speaker 11: So after the success, obviously the whole food now the
- 32:07Speaker 11: vegan community, now it becomes the marketplace for you.
- 32:11Speaker 5: So how did the brand start treating you from that space?
- 32:15Speaker 11: Because you know that's obviously something that's been more prominent
- 32:18Speaker 11: over the past five ten years. You didn't have any
- 32:22Speaker 11: clue that you were going to be in the space,
- 32:24Speaker 11: but now you're the spokesperson for it.
- 32:26Speaker 5: So how do the brands start approaching after that?
- 32:29Speaker 6: Oh my honey, every day my inbox was flooded. Everybody
- 32:32Speaker 6: wanted to send me stump. Everybody wanted to send tail products.
- 32:37Speaker 6: Everybody wanted to do a deal. And I learned very
- 32:39Speaker 6: quickly that the power of no.
- 32:44Speaker 7: Right.
- 32:44Speaker 6: I never did anything for money. If I didn't like it,
- 32:49Speaker 6: I ain't going to endorse it, right. And I also
- 32:53Speaker 6: had to like the people like the business, because some
- 32:57Speaker 6: people I could tell like, oh, you just want me
- 33:00Speaker 6: because a I'm a black woman and it's a certain
- 33:05Speaker 6: time of the year, and you know, I can move
- 33:09Speaker 6: merchandise right product, but you don't really see me as
- 33:14Speaker 6: a person. And then I would also look at their
- 33:16Speaker 6: you know, their social media, their marketing. You never had
- 33:20Speaker 6: nobody black before, Now you won't tab. I don't feel
- 33:25Speaker 6: good about that.
- 33:26Speaker 7: You know.
- 33:26Speaker 6: So I would always just kind of look at the
- 33:28Speaker 6: approach and see if it was genuine. I would meet
- 33:32Speaker 6: with people and talk to people, but always pray before
- 33:36Speaker 6: I say anything. I'd be like, Okay, guide me on this.
- 33:40Speaker 6: But I did a lot of deals that were a
- 33:43Speaker 6: lot of small businesses. Still to this day, those are
- 33:47Speaker 6: my passion. Small businesses are my passion because I've seen
- 33:51Speaker 6: them change overnight because of me just endorsing them, right
- 33:56Speaker 6: or sharing them on my platform.
- 33:59Speaker 7: That's what's important.
- 34:00Speaker 6: Changing somebody's life is like, that's it, you know, because
- 34:03Speaker 6: that also changes my life, right because I know, oh,
- 34:06Speaker 6: I'm doing what I'm purpose to do.
- 34:08Speaker 10: So so all right, let's on the media side. Right,
- 34:12Speaker 10: You've grown the media empire where you have the YouTube channel,
- 34:16Speaker 10: you have the podcast and children, So at what point
- 34:20Speaker 10: do you transition from Okay, I'm making cool content, I'm
- 34:24Speaker 10: going viral. I'm working with brands. So now I'm gonna
- 34:27Speaker 10: build a business structure and do it that way. Like
- 34:30Speaker 10: what's the steps to say, Okay, now this is something
- 34:32Speaker 10: that we're really going to focus on to make it
- 34:34Speaker 10: a business.
- 34:35Speaker 6: What for me it was it was like very organic,
- 34:40Speaker 6: like I've moved strategically. I don't do anything like I
- 34:45Speaker 6: and people don't be believe me when I say this,
- 34:47Speaker 6: But honey, when I tell you, I promise you. It's
- 34:50Speaker 6: never like a laid out plan, right, It'll be something
- 34:55Speaker 6: will come to me and then I'll be like, okay.
- 34:58Speaker 7: I got to do that.
- 35:00Speaker 6: But like when I first cut my hair off and
- 35:02Speaker 6: she started growing back, I named her Donna. Right, I
- 35:05Speaker 6: was cooking live in my kitchen and she was like
- 35:09Speaker 6: sticking up straight, and I was like, throw up my
- 35:11Speaker 6: hair sticking up straight.
- 35:11Speaker 7: I'm looking like don King tonight. I met have to
- 35:13Speaker 7: call her Donna, and it stuck and.
- 35:16Speaker 6: People started saying I look at Donna like every night
- 35:19Speaker 6: when I'd be cooking. So it became a thing, and
- 35:22Speaker 6: I continued to call her that, and I was like
- 35:25Speaker 6: in prayer, God was like I need you to stay
- 35:26Speaker 6: consistent in that, and I was like, but why, Like
- 35:29Speaker 6: it's just a name for my hair, you know. And
- 35:32Speaker 6: then over time I really started to realize me embracing
- 35:35Speaker 6: my hair was a big deal for me because I
- 35:38Speaker 6: had not embraced my natural hair for so long.
- 35:42Speaker 7: And then over time that's when I was.
- 35:45Speaker 6: Like, oh, I want to do a hair pure line.
- 35:49Speaker 6: And I've already named my hair Donna and people know that.
- 35:51Speaker 6: So it's going to be like the Donna collection, right,
- 35:53Speaker 6: which is now my hair collection is Donna's recipe.
- 35:57Speaker 7: So those are the things that I'm intention Nowhere.
- 36:01Speaker 6: When I figured that out, I'm like, oh, okay, gods,
- 36:04Speaker 6: see what you're showing me. So now when I my
- 36:07Speaker 6: favorite cooking spoon when I cook, people know my favorite
- 36:10Speaker 6: spoon is Shina. So in my mind, I'm like, one
- 36:12Speaker 6: day I'm gonna have a collection of these. That's how
- 36:15Speaker 6: I plan it. It's not like, oh A has to
- 36:18Speaker 6: go to be to go to sea for me to
- 36:20Speaker 6: Domino effect.
- 36:22Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 36:23Speaker 6: And so but I know, like when I'm in the door,
- 36:26Speaker 6: I look around the room, right, I don't. I don't
- 36:29Speaker 6: show up and walk through the door for the one
- 36:32Speaker 6: reason I'm there. If I walk through the door, I
- 36:34Speaker 6: want to look around the room.
- 36:36Speaker 11: I had like the obedience just keeps coming up in
- 36:38Speaker 11: the faith in it. And it was like you named
- 36:40Speaker 11: your hair, now you got to hear a product, and
- 36:42Speaker 11: so like now it makes sense. I'm putting the pieces
- 36:44Speaker 11: together as I'm listening to the story even more so
- 36:46Speaker 11: it's like, all right, I'm giving recipes, here's my you know,
- 36:51Speaker 11: here's my spice.
- 36:52Speaker 5: Here's what I'm doing exactly.
- 36:53Speaker 11: You're just creating businesses based on who is just who
- 36:56Speaker 11: you are and being obedient who you.
- 36:58Speaker 7: Are exactly like I could.
- 37:00Speaker 6: So I got seasoning, yeah right, people know I love fashion.
- 37:04Speaker 7: Yeah, I got closed the target. Right. If it ain't me,
- 37:09Speaker 7: it don't make sense. You know. If I came out
- 37:11Speaker 7: with my own beer, people were like, really that means
- 37:15Speaker 7: you just do a name on something.
- 37:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm so intentional with what I do. It has
- 37:20Speaker 6: to be so rooted in tail.
- 37:23Speaker 11: So the other part of that is like the not knowing, right,
- 37:26Speaker 11: And so you didn't come from a food background, no, right,
- 37:30Speaker 11: so you had somebody had to give you guidance in
- 37:32Speaker 11: that space. So where did you see the guys? Even
- 37:34Speaker 11: with the seasoning, I'm thinking like this, this makes perfect sense,
- 37:37Speaker 11: But how do I even go about that? How do
- 37:39Speaker 11: I market that who do I find to even help me?
- 37:42Speaker 11: What were those times?
- 37:44Speaker 5: Like?
- 37:44Speaker 7: So crazy enough?
- 37:46Speaker 6: Same as with my hair products, same as with my
- 37:48Speaker 6: season and same as with my cookbook. When I was
- 37:53Speaker 6: doing everything independently, just by myself and me and Stevens
- 37:56Speaker 6: that was my team being him, I would cook life
- 38:00Speaker 6: and I would look at the comments and people were like,
- 38:03Speaker 6: you need your own seasoning. So I literally had started
- 38:05Speaker 6: trying to mix my own seasoning at my house. Same
- 38:08Speaker 6: with my hair tap, you need your own hair products.
- 38:11Speaker 6: I was getting the essential olds, like all these different things,
- 38:15Speaker 6: trying to mix it at my house. My cookbook, I
- 38:18Speaker 6: was writing my cookbook at home by myself, and every
- 38:22Speaker 6: night I would pray, like, God, I need a team.
- 38:25Speaker 7: I don't know how to do this, and he would
- 38:27Speaker 7: send me the people. Literally.
- 38:29Speaker 6: I did a deal with McCormick and they wanted me
- 38:34Speaker 6: to just cook with their seasonings live like I was doing.
- 38:37Speaker 6: And I was like, oh, okay, my granny, I grew
- 38:40Speaker 6: up on McCormick seasoning, you know, all the people my.
- 38:45Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 38:46Speaker 6: And so after I did that, I was like, hmm,
- 38:50Speaker 6: I wonder if they would help me create my own seasoning.
- 38:55Speaker 6: So I asked my team and they were like, oh,
- 38:57Speaker 6: let's set a meeting. And that's how that happened. With
- 39:01Speaker 6: Donna's Recipe. It was actually a very organic thing. My
- 39:06Speaker 6: husband coaches basketball, so one of the moms of the
- 39:09Speaker 6: his players was like, I got an idea. I want
- 39:12Speaker 6: to run by you, and so she had an idea
- 39:16Speaker 6: to do hair care aligned with me. I was like, girl,
- 39:17Speaker 6: I've been trying to develop this for a year by myself,
- 39:20Speaker 6: but I pray for somebody, you know, I pray for
- 39:22Speaker 6: God to see me a team.
- 39:23Speaker 7: And she was like, oh, well, this is what I do.
- 39:26Speaker 6: That's how I formed my partnership with her to do
- 39:28Speaker 6: Donna's Recipe, and then with my book with my team,
- 39:32Speaker 6: I was like, I've been writing a quick book, but
- 39:33Speaker 6: I have no idea about publishing.
- 39:35Speaker 7: I need somebody to show me. And they were like, oh,
- 39:38Speaker 7: let's set a meeting.
- 39:39Speaker 6: So the thing I learned about is you can have
- 39:42Speaker 6: a dream, you can have an idea, but you can't
- 39:46Speaker 6: always just keep it inside.
- 39:48Speaker 7: Sometimes you got to ad.
- 39:49Speaker 6: You got to pray for the guidance but also for
- 39:51Speaker 6: the team, and then you got to speak up and
- 39:53Speaker 6: be like, I need help because I know I have
- 39:55Speaker 6: all these great ideas, but I also know I can't
- 39:57Speaker 6: do it alone, so I would as my team. I'd
- 40:01Speaker 6: be like, you know, my new managers I signed with
- 40:03Speaker 6: when I signed with my agent, we would have meetings
- 40:07Speaker 6: and I would say, listen, these are the things I
- 40:08Speaker 6: want to do. This is what's in my mind, is
- 40:10Speaker 6: what God put inside of me. I have this list
- 40:12Speaker 6: of things I want to do, this, this, and this,
- 40:14Speaker 6: and it has to ligne this way. And they'll be like, Okay,
- 40:17Speaker 6: let us try to say some meetings and then I
- 40:19Speaker 6: would take meetings with multiple people and whoever felt right
- 40:23Speaker 6: to me, that's who.
- 40:25Speaker 7: I would move forward with.
- 40:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean you said something very important.
- 40:29Speaker 11: You said you didn't do it for money, right, at
- 40:31Speaker 11: a certain point you're making money, absolutely, and so that's another.
- 40:35Speaker 5: Side of a team that you have to build.
- 40:37Speaker 11: And one of the things that in our community is
- 40:39Speaker 11: tough is trust, right, so even sharing your vision. But
- 40:42Speaker 11: also this episode is brought to you by P and

- 42:34Speaker 1: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 42:38Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from El Salvador
- 42:42Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas. Man of Venezuelan charged with
- 42:46Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan.
- 42:50Speaker 2: These are just some of the heinous.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Migrant criminals caught because of President Donald J.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Trump's leadership.
- 42:56Speaker 1: I'm Christine Nohm, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Under President Trump, attempted illegal border crossings are at the
- 43:04Speaker 1: lowest levels ever recorded, and over one hundred thousand illegal
- 43:08Speaker 1: aliens have been arrested.
- 43:09Speaker 2: If you are here illegally, you're next.
- 43:12Speaker 1: You will be fine nearly one thousand dollars a day,
- 43:15Speaker 1: imprisoned and deported, you will never return.
- 43:19Speaker 2: But if you register using our.
- 43:20Speaker 1: CBP home app and leave now, you could be allowed
- 43:24Speaker 1: to return legally do what's right.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Leave now.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Under President Trump, America's laws, border and families will be protected.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 43:35Speaker 5: Trying to figure out who's going to handle my finances?
- 43:38Speaker 5: What was that process?
- 43:39Speaker 7: Like, let me tell you something.
- 43:42Speaker 6: I have a business manager right when it comes to money,
- 43:46Speaker 6: and she know it ain't a secret. And I still
- 43:48Speaker 6: don't trust them. Me and my husband, we don't trust
- 43:51Speaker 6: nobody but me and him.
- 43:54Speaker 7: I'll be talking like, girl, I love you, but I
- 43:56Speaker 7: don't trust you, you know, because.
- 43:57Speaker 5: It's my money. Don't be honest with you.
- 43:59Speaker 7: I'm just listen.
- 44:00Speaker 6: Me and my husband we came from nothing together, right,
- 44:04Speaker 6: We've been together for twenty five years. Next year, I
- 44:06Speaker 6: mean next month, and we still keep a notebook. We
- 44:12Speaker 6: still write things down. That's how we started. And so
- 44:15Speaker 6: we were like, wait, man, we got to really look
- 44:17Speaker 6: at this. Like we got the apps, we can go
- 44:19Speaker 6: online and look, but now I need to look at
- 44:21Speaker 6: it our way. It's hard finding people in the industry
- 44:27Speaker 6: that you can trust. And people have tried to get
- 44:32Speaker 6: over on me. People have tried to steal from me,
- 44:35Speaker 6: and it's disheartening because I want everybody to win. And
- 44:41Speaker 6: I always tell people, you know how you said, I
- 44:42Speaker 6: walk to the room.
- 44:43Speaker 7: And you can feel it. That's how I always want
- 44:45Speaker 7: to present, right.
- 44:46Speaker 6: It's only two things that will take me out of
- 44:48Speaker 6: that element is if you mess with my family or
- 44:51Speaker 6: you mess with my money, because I take care of
- 44:53Speaker 6: my family with my money.
- 44:54Speaker 7: Right. And so.
- 44:58Speaker 6: As a black woman, it's already hard, you know, in
- 45:04Speaker 6: an industry that is you know, or in a world
- 45:07Speaker 6: rather that was not created to cater to us. But
- 45:09Speaker 6: then when you become like very successful and you're a
- 45:14Speaker 6: Southern country black woman, people think you dumb, so they
- 45:19Speaker 6: think that they can, you know, take advantage of you.
- 45:22Speaker 6: And so that's what makes it even more so hard
- 45:25Speaker 6: to trust people.
- 45:27Speaker 8: Right.
- 45:28Speaker 6: But I'm very grateful that I do have a good
- 45:33Speaker 6: team and I've established like a good business manager the company.
- 45:38Speaker 7: You know, I did my homework.
- 45:39Speaker 6: I made sure I was like, let me look and
- 45:40Speaker 6: see if y'all in the other had a situation. Listen,
- 45:43Speaker 6: when y'all had Steve Harvey, I called her the next ask.
- 45:46Speaker 6: But you see what I'm saying. I seen him the video.
- 45:49Speaker 6: I said, now listen, this why I don't trust you.
- 45:55Speaker 11: Have got fast forward to the park where you're talking
- 45:58Speaker 11: about the tech.
- 45:59Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why I was.
- 46:01Speaker 9: That was the crazy.
- 46:02Speaker 6: I was like, I'm gonna need you. And it's so
- 46:04Speaker 6: funny because I sent her that. I was like, I
- 46:06Speaker 6: know that you send them to me, but I need
- 46:08Speaker 6: you to.
- 46:08Speaker 7: I needed the print out of my receipts. I don't
- 46:12Speaker 7: want the computer ones. I want the print out of
- 46:14Speaker 7: my tax receipts. Like but those little things like that.
- 46:17Speaker 6: We need a little reminder every now because sometimes we
- 46:19Speaker 6: can't get a little comfortable and.
- 46:23Speaker 7: We can't do that.
- 46:25Speaker 6: We can't lose sight. Listen, if I got three dollars missing,
- 46:27Speaker 6: I won't know where it is.
- 46:29Speaker 10: No, so let's talk about Okay, so you're in the
- 46:34Speaker 10: food space, you got the recipes, and when do you
- 46:38Speaker 10: turn to a restaurant tour? And what's the process of
- 46:43Speaker 10: opening the restaurant.
- 46:44Speaker 7: Now, let me tell you this.
- 46:46Speaker 6: Niemen I love him, he's a sweetheart. I went to
- 46:49Speaker 6: kill my name. I was shooting the Shy in Chicago,
- 46:52Speaker 6: so I was there for.
- 46:54Speaker 9: Yeah, that's a restaurant.
- 46:57Speaker 7: It was let's get to it. So I to the
- 47:00Speaker 7: kell my name, the original.
- 47:01Speaker 6: One is in Chicago. I fell in love with it.
- 47:03Speaker 6: I fell in love with it, and I fell in
- 47:05Speaker 6: love with Neiman. And I was like, h y'all, you
- 47:08Speaker 6: need one of these in l A. And I was
- 47:11Speaker 6: like thinking, like I'm gonna go to the restaurant again
- 47:13Speaker 6: because I was staying in Chicago for a couple of months.
- 47:17Speaker 6: And I was like, if he said something about doing
- 47:20Speaker 6: one of these and you know in l A, I'm
- 47:23Speaker 6: a I'm a partner with him. He came to the
- 47:25Speaker 6: table that day and he was like, I've been thinking
- 47:27Speaker 6: about coming to l A and and looking for a building.
- 47:30Speaker 7: I said, you know what, I want to partner with you.
- 47:33Speaker 6: And so while kill my name is not my it's Niemens,
- 47:38Speaker 6: I did partner with him.
- 47:40Speaker 7: Too. Fun to have one here in l A.
- 47:44Speaker 6: But oh, restaurant business that you know how you really
- 47:48Speaker 6: can't trust people, right?
- 47:51Speaker 7: Not Neiman? I love him.
- 47:53Speaker 5: He was he was yeah, yeah, pinky, yeah, yes.
- 48:01Speaker 6: He is so passionate about restaurant business. And for me,
- 48:06Speaker 6: if it was my restaurant like it is, he is like,
- 48:08Speaker 6: if it was my brand and I was there every day,
- 48:12Speaker 6: I could see myself building more right and maybe later
- 48:16Speaker 6: in life.
- 48:17Speaker 7: But so many issues happened.
- 48:21Speaker 6: With like the building right, things that you don't think
- 48:24Speaker 6: that you're gonna run into.
- 48:26Speaker 7: Uh. Structural issues, yes, slum and also slum lords. I'm
- 48:30Speaker 7: going to say that.
- 48:32Speaker 9: Uh.
- 48:33Speaker 6: And it became a whole legal thing that I was like, oh,
- 48:37Speaker 6: I'm gonna have to because now you mess with my
- 48:39Speaker 6: money right and nemas money right. So, but just so
- 48:43Speaker 6: many things that you can't rush into. That's what I learned.
- 48:47Speaker 6: I was like, you know what, in Chicago, he did
- 48:50Speaker 6: it one way, and so he thought it would work
- 48:52Speaker 6: the same in La I've never opened a restaurant, so
- 48:54Speaker 6: I trusted that, and I was like, you know what,
- 48:56Speaker 6: if this is how you do it, let's do it.
- 48:58Speaker 6: I'm gonna give you the money. I know, I'm gonna
- 49:00Speaker 6: get the people in here. You ain't gonna never have
- 49:01Speaker 6: to worry about, you know, people coming. But that's his passion.
- 49:07Speaker 6: But the people trying to find people to help you,
- 49:13Speaker 6: like work in a restaurant, to show up every day
- 49:17Speaker 6: to work, to also be honest, it was hard.
- 49:22Speaker 7: That part was hard too. So a more power to
- 49:26Speaker 7: all the people. I love Pinky.
- 49:28Speaker 6: I'll be like, girl, honey, very very good. But I said,
- 49:31Speaker 6: I'm gonna go ahead and just put food in.
- 49:33Speaker 9: Target, so you're not so you're not in that business anymore.
- 49:35Speaker 7: No, we actually closed the one in laid Down last summer. Yeah. Yeah.
- 49:41Speaker 11: So he said, you're gona put food in the Target, right,
- 49:44Speaker 11: Well I already fo Yeah, So we got to get
- 49:46Speaker 11: to that part because I mean that's nothing to sneeze down.
- 49:49Speaker 11: I mean being inside you know the big before retails
- 49:51Speaker 11: is tough. So you know, obviously the season ends and
- 49:56Speaker 11: you have deals with making food.
- 49:57Speaker 5: So how did they approach you? Who approached?
- 50:00Speaker 9: Like?
- 50:00Speaker 5: How did that work?
- 50:01Speaker 9: So?
- 50:02Speaker 2: Target?
- 50:03Speaker 7: Same way, very organic.
- 50:05Speaker 6: I was doing what they call Target Family with them
- 50:10Speaker 6: for like a year as an influencer doing content and
- 50:16Speaker 6: like for the holidays or back to school, they send
- 50:18Speaker 6: me stuff.
- 50:18Speaker 7: I do videos. When I first started working with them.
- 50:22Speaker 6: What I loved about Target instantly was I would do
- 50:25Speaker 6: a video and I would send it in for approval
- 50:29Speaker 6: and I would just be waiting for their feedback to
- 50:32Speaker 6: tell me what to change, and they never wanted anything change.
- 50:35Speaker 7: They was like, oh, we love it.
- 50:37Speaker 6: And I was like, y'all gonna leta just be tab
- 50:41Speaker 6: because I was sending other you know, work with other
- 50:43Speaker 6: brands and they're be like could you do this? And
- 50:44Speaker 6: then I'd be like, you know what, it's not gonna
- 50:46Speaker 6: work out. Target never ever tried to change me. They
- 50:50Speaker 6: was like, no, lean more into whatever whatever you want
- 50:53Speaker 6: to do, we love it. They didn't care about talked
- 50:56Speaker 6: about God, they didn't care about I talked about Beganism.
- 50:59Speaker 6: They didn't care as long as I was being me.
- 51:02Speaker 6: So I did that for like a year with them.
- 51:05Speaker 6: And when they presented, you know, an opportunity to do
- 51:08Speaker 6: something bigger, I was like.
- 51:09Speaker 7: I'm all ears, what do you want to do?
- 51:11Speaker 6: And they knew that I had studied fashion, and so
- 51:14Speaker 6: they were like, we have this idea that we've never
- 51:16Speaker 6: done it before, but we would love to do four
- 51:21Speaker 6: exclusive collections with you across the whole store. So I
- 51:25Speaker 6: was like, you ain't never did it before. And they
- 51:27Speaker 6: speaking my language because I like to do things ain't
- 51:29Speaker 6: never been done. And so we I said, yeah, you know,
- 51:35Speaker 6: we talked about it, and I was like, oh, this
- 51:38Speaker 6: is right up my alley. I get to do, you know,
- 51:41Speaker 6: clothing and accessories. You know, I love glasses, I love clothes.
- 51:46Speaker 6: I get to do swim wear and it's all inclusive,
- 51:49Speaker 6: which is what I love. Like you know, I'm going
- 51:52Speaker 6: to say all the women in my family think we
- 51:54Speaker 6: you know, we big women in the South, Okay. And
- 51:56Speaker 6: so I was like, I can make you know, stuff
- 51:57Speaker 6: that my mother would have been able to wear and
- 51:59Speaker 6: my sister are and my aunts, and I was I
- 52:03Speaker 6: was excited to do that. But then I also got
- 52:06Speaker 6: to design furniture. I had never did that before, furniture
- 52:10Speaker 6: and office supplies. And you know then from their food,
- 52:17Speaker 6: which is my you know, now like something I'm very
- 52:20Speaker 6: passionate about. And to do a vegan collection and kitchen
- 52:25Speaker 6: you know where, and now I have my fourth drop
- 52:28Speaker 6: that comes out the summer would be outdoor entertainment, and
- 52:31Speaker 6: so I'm super excited to do it. I loved that
- 52:33Speaker 6: I was the first, you know, I had my own
- 52:35Speaker 6: merch line that I used to do, which is one
- 52:38Speaker 6: of the first ways that I made a lot of money.
- 52:40Speaker 7: And I did that independently on my own.
- 52:43Speaker 6: And so I would go downtown and buy the T
- 52:45Speaker 6: shirts and bulk, then find a printer, take them to
- 52:47Speaker 6: the printer.
- 52:47Speaker 7: Design the logo, do all the things.
- 52:50Speaker 6: And to be able to go and partner with somebody
- 52:53Speaker 6: like Target, where I you know, it was in their
- 52:55Speaker 6: corporate headquarters in the in the room while things are
- 52:59Speaker 6: being styled and you know, designing it with them and
- 53:01Speaker 6: looking at color ways and doing the whole thing.
- 53:03Speaker 7: I was like, Oh, I feel like, okay, this is
- 53:06Speaker 7: why you do.
- 53:07Speaker 6: It yourself first, so you can really appreciate when you
- 53:10Speaker 6: get to this place.
- 53:11Speaker 10: So is it is it your brand or is it target?
- 53:15Speaker 9: Is it target? And then you're like the designer on it.
- 53:18Speaker 7: Right, So it's it's uh, tap of the brand for target? Okay, right?
- 53:23Speaker 7: And so.
- 53:25Speaker 6: But everything I got to do right, So they would
- 53:28Speaker 6: give me like a whole bunch of color palettes and
- 53:32Speaker 6: then I picked what I want and the designs I want.
- 53:35Speaker 7: I tell them what I envisioned.
- 53:36Speaker 10: And how I want, like the creative director, right, yeah,
- 53:40Speaker 10: off the line. So okay, let's talk about your spirituality
- 53:46Speaker 10: because that's something obviously that's extremely important to you.
- 53:49Speaker 9: Right, So.
- 53:53Speaker 10: What that is that an ever an issue in business?
- 53:58Speaker 10: How do you you know walk that line or is
- 54:03Speaker 10: it a line to walk as far as spirituality? And
- 54:06Speaker 10: because a lot of time people say, like you know,
- 54:09Speaker 10: separate church and state, right, like separate church and business.
- 54:12Speaker 9: Like you know what I mean?
- 54:13Speaker 10: Like, as far as whatever your religious beliefs are, that's fine.
- 54:16Speaker 10: You can mention it, but don't over bleed it too
- 54:18Speaker 10: much in your business because you might alienate people, you
- 54:22Speaker 10: might even offend people, right or so, it's a lot
- 54:26Speaker 10: of times you don't see people like overly expressing their
- 54:31Speaker 10: religious beliefs or their spirituality. But so, what's your thoughts
- 54:35Speaker 10: on that?
- 54:37Speaker 6: It's who I am, right, I always share openly my
- 54:43Speaker 6: love of God, but I'm also very open about my
- 54:47Speaker 6: dislike of religion. I feel that religion causes separation. My
- 54:53Speaker 6: mother was a pastor later in her life and she
- 54:55Speaker 6: told me, she said, listen, don't ever get caught up
- 54:56Speaker 6: in religion. Get caught up in your relationship with God.
- 54:59Speaker 6: And that is what I talk about all the time.
- 55:03Speaker 6: People know who I am when I walk in the door.
- 55:05Speaker 6: If you if you book me, you already know me.
- 55:09Speaker 6: And I don't come.
- 55:12Speaker 7: To judge. I come in love. I think that my
- 55:20Speaker 7: love of God is.
- 55:22Speaker 6: Very known, so I don't have to walk in the
- 55:25Speaker 6: room and talk about it, right, But if the opportunity
- 55:28Speaker 6: presents itself, you know where I'm rooted.
- 55:31Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying.
- 55:32Speaker 6: So, but I don't shot away from it. If somebody
- 55:35Speaker 6: want to have a conversation, you think.
- 55:36Speaker 10: That that it's actually helped you as far as do you
- 55:39Speaker 10: think that a lot of brands have they want to
- 55:43Speaker 10: work with you as far as because of that, Because
- 55:44Speaker 10: you know a lot of especially like in a Bible
- 55:46Speaker 10: belt in the South, different things of that nature. So
- 55:49Speaker 10: a lot of times what somebody might look at as
- 55:52Speaker 10: a handicap is actually a benefit.
- 55:55Speaker 6: I think it has its pros and cons. Right, some
- 55:57Speaker 6: people don't want to work with me because they don't
- 56:00Speaker 6: like that, you know.
- 56:01Speaker 7: But I always say to main my people that ain't.
- 56:04Speaker 6: Supposed to work with if I that mean you don't
- 56:07Speaker 6: like to tell, right, And that is also some church folks.
- 56:12Speaker 6: Some church folks say ain't Christian enough? That ain't my business?
- 56:16Speaker 7: Right. I love everybody. You know, one of my best
- 56:20Speaker 7: friends is Muslim.
- 56:22Speaker 6: One of my best friends, right, And so I think
- 56:26Speaker 6: that we get to a place where we're so focused
- 56:30Speaker 6: on what you were taught, you ain't even having a relationship, right.
- 56:35Speaker 7: That's that's the thing.
- 56:35Speaker 6: A lot a lot of people don't realize that you
- 56:38Speaker 6: got these strong beliefs in something because of what you
- 56:41Speaker 6: were taught. I'm telling you what I know, what's in here,
- 56:45Speaker 6: what I've heard, nobody taught me the God. I know,
- 56:49Speaker 6: it wasn't taught to me. It was developed inside of me.
- 56:54Speaker 6: And that's a difference. And so you know, if you
- 56:57Speaker 6: look at my content, have always, you know, always give
- 57:00Speaker 6: glory to God. I do credit him for everything that
- 57:04Speaker 6: I am. And I also do the work right. And
- 57:09Speaker 6: so if somebody be like you know I have people say, Tam,
- 57:12Speaker 6: you might want to tone it down talking about God
- 57:14Speaker 6: all the time on your social or whatever, because you
- 57:16Speaker 6: know people ain't gonna work, you know, they ain't gonn
- 57:18Speaker 6: want to work with you. I was like, ooh, honey,
- 57:21Speaker 6: let me turn it up a little bit because I
- 57:22Speaker 6: want to make those people stay clear.
- 57:25Speaker 7: Don't work with tab money if you.
- 57:26Speaker 6: Know, because I'm gonna still show up as this tab right.
- 57:30Speaker 6: But I love I love people. I believe in people, right.
- 57:35Speaker 6: I believe we all got something great to offer. You know,
- 57:37Speaker 6: no matter what you believe, you know, no matter you know,
- 57:40Speaker 6: no matter the God that you may feel exist in
- 57:44Speaker 6: your life, I still believe in people. We don't have
- 57:49Speaker 6: to have the same belief for me to love you right,
- 57:52Speaker 6: for me to see you, we don't have to have
- 57:54Speaker 6: the same belief.
- 57:56Speaker 7: Or for us to work together, right. And what you
- 58:00Speaker 7: do at home.
- 58:01Speaker 6: Hundred that's your business, right, But this is who I am,
- 58:05Speaker 6: and I ain't gonna change, nor should.
- 58:07Speaker 11: You know, and it ain't gonna do it ain't gonna
- 58:10Speaker 11: I mean. So inside that the business, there's a lot
- 58:12Speaker 11: of verticals there. I heard design, I heard the cooking obviously,
- 58:16Speaker 11: the media, the books. I don't even want to use
- 58:20Speaker 11: the word balance, But how do you delegate managing all
- 58:22Speaker 11: these things at the same time.
- 58:25Speaker 6: I'm first, right, that's priority. Then it's my family, and
- 58:30Speaker 6: then I have a good schedule, right, I put everything
- 58:33Speaker 6: on the calendar. Wait to hear me say that. I'm like, you,
- 58:36Speaker 6: look at the calendar. You're like, Lord, here we go
- 58:37Speaker 6: to this calendar. But that's that's how I do it.
- 58:42Speaker 6: But I schedule my own breaks, and those breaks sometimes
- 58:46Speaker 6: happen throughout my day, you know, because I want to
- 58:49Speaker 6: make sure I'm all right. I have struggled with anxiety
- 58:52Speaker 6: and depression before, and I don't want to go back,
- 58:55Speaker 6: so I don't allow myself to get burned out. And
- 58:59Speaker 6: I really love what I do. I love it, and
- 59:05Speaker 6: when you love it, it is easy to balance. It's easy
- 59:11Speaker 6: to balance when you love it. When you are doing it.
- 59:14Speaker 6: Because you're trying to make money, or you're doing it
- 59:18Speaker 6: because you're trying to survive, or you're doing it to
- 59:22Speaker 6: try to be like somebody else. It's a balancing act.
- 59:26Speaker 6: It's hard and it's heavy. But when you really love
- 59:30Speaker 6: it and you're doing it because you were called to
- 59:32Speaker 6: do it and it's part of your purpose, it's easy
- 59:36Speaker 6: to balance.
- 59:37Speaker 11: When I just want because I'm thinking now about the
- 59:40Speaker 11: Target situation, right, and obviously that there's food inside of
- 59:43Speaker 11: that your brand.
- 59:45Speaker 5: But it started with Whole Foods or a partnership.
- 59:48Speaker 11: And so in terms of having two obviously separate corporate
- 59:53Speaker 11: companies that you worked with, was there a battle or
- 59:57Speaker 11: was there a negotiation saying hey, like yo, this is
- 59:59Speaker 11: what they're offering, this is what and we'll just choose
- 1:00:02Speaker 11: one that schoos.
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: Oh no, Whole Foods. I worked with them up until.
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: Maybe like two years ago, right, so it's a it's
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: a different situation. But also, uh, they could not offer
- 1:00:20Speaker 6: me the things that Target offered me. Right, there's no clothing.
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: In right, it's different, different, it's a.
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: Whole different thing. But also Whole Foods they had their
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: their role in my journey, you know, that was their role.
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: They were not like Thung partners.
- 1:00:36Speaker 7: Listen, you gotta know your season, everybody, listen.
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: You know that it was a great season and I
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: will ever love them, and who knows, I could always
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: go back to them. I also, you know, we have
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: products inside of the Whole Foods. You know I have
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: I have products everywhere.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: I got products in Walmart even though I partner would Target.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: You know, I got them into every grocery store, even
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: though I partnered with Target. You know, my season ain't
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: just at Target. Domald's recipe ain't just gonna be at Alta,
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: you know. So there's a way you do business. There's
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: a way that tabat the Brown can show up. Then
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: there's a way that my businesses and brands can show up. Right,
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: So you can't lock my brand in the deal. You
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: might be able to, you know, partner with TAB and
- 1:01:22Speaker 6: I have exclusivity, but then I have a brand that
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: you don't own, right, Nobody owned me, but I own
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: my brand, so I can put that in wherever I
- 1:01:32Speaker 6: want to.
- 1:01:33Speaker 9: So talk about that.
- 1:01:34Speaker 10: As far as separating the brand from the personality, that's
- 1:01:38Speaker 10: something that it could be a gifting curse, right when
- 1:01:41Speaker 10: somebody just associates you with the brand. It's like, we
- 1:01:45Speaker 10: don't associate fill Night with Nike, right, but we do
- 1:01:49Speaker 10: associate Michael Jordan with Jordan brand.
- 1:01:53Speaker 9: Give them pros and cons for both.
- 1:01:55Speaker 10: Right, So do you ever separate yourself from the brand
- 1:02:00Speaker 10: or do you think it's just completely tied together? Like
- 1:02:03Speaker 10: what's your thoughts on and just for entrepreneurs in general
- 1:02:07Speaker 10: in this new age of social media as far as
- 1:02:10Speaker 10: you know, battling between that, like should I put this
- 1:02:13Speaker 10: on social media? Should I not put this on social media?
- 1:02:15Speaker 10: Should I always attach my own personal brand to the company?
- 1:02:18Speaker 9: Should I back out a little bit? Like what's your philosophy?
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: I think that if you if you are your brand, right,
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: I am my brand.
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: I am tab At the Brown.
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: If I own it, like I own Donna's recipe, I'm
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: always gonna be attached to it.
- 1:02:33Speaker 7: I don't own Target.
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: I partner with them, right, so people can still go
- 1:02:38Speaker 6: to Target and not think about tab Right, I won't
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: forever be Oh is she the Target lady? No, she
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: tap at the Brown. She just so happened to have
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: a partnership with Target. But Donna's recipe, that's gonna always
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: be tab At the brand right, because people gonna know,
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: oh that's donad, oh that's her, and I own it.
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: So I think that as long as you know the
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: difference of partnership versus ownership, because it's a big difference there,
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: and if you have that understanding, then you're gonna be
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: all right.
- 1:03:10Speaker 10: Okay, So let's let's talk about the motivation behind tap Time.
- 1:03:15Speaker 9: Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, let's talk about that a little bit.
- 1:03:19Speaker 10: What made you want to do it and what's the
- 1:03:21Speaker 10: dynamics of that.
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: So tap Time is my children's show.
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: And for about four years, uh, every every day in prayer,
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: I would hear God speak to me. He would say,
- 1:03:32Speaker 6: heal the world. I need you to heal the world.
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: And I'd be like, look, I'm one person. Am I
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: gonna heal the world?
- 1:03:38Speaker 9: So how often do you actually hear God?
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: Very often?
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: So there's a so I always help I get this
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: question a lot. There's a different way of hearing him.
- 1:03:48Speaker 7: Now. To hear the voice that sounds like thunder has
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: only happened to me once.
- 1:03:52Speaker 9: That's like the Morgan Freeman.
- 1:03:54Speaker 7: It was a very I wish it sounded like more.
- 1:03:58Speaker 9: No, because that's what you take, but yeah, but it was.
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: It sounded more like thunder, and it scared me very bad, exactly.
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: But then there's a.
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: Way that you know, because everybody is not ready to
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: hear the voice, and so he will sometimes make the
- 1:04:22Speaker 6: voice sound very familiar to you. So like when my
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: mama was sick, she had ls so or she could
- 1:04:29Speaker 6: no longer talk towards the end of her life, and
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: we'd have to read her lips.
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: Or she could have a very small whisper.
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: And so I'd be at her house and i'd be
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: in the office, and you know, her bedrooms way down
- 1:04:38Speaker 6: the hall, and I could hear her as plain as
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: they called me. And I go in there, I'm like,
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: you call me, mom, And she look at me, like,
- 1:04:43Speaker 6: now I call you, and I was like, And so
- 1:04:46Speaker 6: she explained me. She said, you know, sometimes God will
- 1:04:48Speaker 6: use a voice that sounds like somebody that you know,
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: not to scare you. And so sometimes I'll hear the
- 1:04:55Speaker 6: voice that sounds familiar, like it could sound like my
- 1:04:57Speaker 6: son calling me, can sound like my daughter. But sometimes
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: it's a whisper that I hear that it's nagging. So
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: it's like unless I address it, it won't.
- 1:05:11Speaker 7: Go away right.
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: And sometimes it's in a dream Sometimes it's very in
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: a dream. I'm not as I always. This used to
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: be the joke with me and my mom because my
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: mama knew my gift. I ain't scared of my dreams
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: in the daytime. Give me a minute, you know, because
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: you got to understand, like I'm a child, I was
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: a little girl seeing things that nobody else saw, right,
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: And I could see something run across the floor, or
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: I could see somebody's face change.
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: It's just like visions, like sixth sense, yes, and so.
- 1:05:47Speaker 6: That's a very scary thing as a child. And then
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: you know, me and my husband just talking about this
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: on Fridays, was having a chance. I was like twenty six,
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: twenty eight before I could sleep with the lights off
- 1:05:57Speaker 6: with us together.
- 1:06:00Speaker 7: We got a TV.
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: We could finally afford one that had the timer so
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: that in our bedroom, so he was set it on
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: forty five minutes so I could fall asleep, so I
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: could have light, you know, in the room before I
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: fell asleep. Because of the things that I would see,
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: you know, at night would scare me. But that was
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: because I was running. I was running from the gift.
- 1:06:22Speaker 6: I don't run from it no more. So I'm all
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: right now, you know. But so I hear him in
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: different ways. And so I always tell people I can't
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: tell you how you can hear him versus how I
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: hear him. It's going to be different because everybody didn't
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: have the same gift that I have. However, I will
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: tell you that thing that you think about that you
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: can't shake. Most time it's him trying to nudge you
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: on something, and sometimes he speaks to you through other people.
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: Now you can have a thought about something you ain't
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: told nobody, and then somebody comes saying, you know what
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: I was thinking, you know what you should do? And
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: you'd be like, I've been thinking about that. That's him saying,
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: let me send it through somebody else, because you won't
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: be a handle if he came down and said you
- 1:07:03Speaker 6: know that Morgan Freeman boys.
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: But it comes in different ways.
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: So I was, you know, in prayer, and I kept
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: hearing you know, I need you to heal the world,
- 1:07:16Speaker 6: and so I was like, how do I do this?
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: When I first went begin to heal myself, I was like, oh,
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: he meant my body is my world and now I'm healed.
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: And he was like, that's cute, tab and that's not that,
- 1:07:28Speaker 6: ain't it. And so one morning he was like, it
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: starts with children, and I was like, oh, okay.
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: So I told my team.
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: I was like, listen, I want to do a children's
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: show because I have this idea that if I can
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: teach children to love themselves, to love each other, to
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: see each other despite our differences, have compassion for each other,
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: and we do this while learning together about the world,
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: those same children will have this inside of them and
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: they'll grow up one day and be adults who still
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: see each other, we still love each other, have compassion
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: for each other, but will also be willing to help
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: heal each other. That's the plan, and that's why I
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: decided to do S halftime. And I also wanted to
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: slow television back down for children. I grew up on
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: like mister Rogers, and so I just felt like we
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: needed to slow it down.
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: You know, my son.
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: Was diagnosed with motor tics when he was eight, and
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: a lot of children have motor tics or high anxiety.
- 1:08:32Speaker 6: In the children's program being over stimulates children. All the
- 1:08:37Speaker 6: colors and a lot of like the loud sounds and
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: like very fast paced music.
- 1:08:42Speaker 7: It's actually over stimulating to children, and.
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: So you'll find in the comments when people are talking
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: about tab time that a lot of children was like
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: autism or motor tics or anxiety. They have them watched
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: and it calms them down. And it's important I think
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: that we remember that we only have children for a
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: very small amount of time. A good ten years is
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: all we got, and we adult for the rest of
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: our life. So for those ten years, if we can
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: just be patient with them, slow it down a little bit.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: I think, you know, to have time is.
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: Where is it?
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: That's always They asked me, what's the adage that I
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: always like live by? And it's like, you're going to
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: be older a lot longer than you're gonna be younger.
- 1:09:26Speaker 7: Man, Ain't you adult for a very long time?
- 1:09:29Speaker 6: But you you know, even when we adult, though, we
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: refer back to the child in side.
- 1:09:34Speaker 9: Yeah, And if.
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: The child's childhood was something great, then it's a good reflection.
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: If it was a lot of trauma, it's tough. And
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: so I want to be part of the good reflection.
- 1:09:48Speaker 11: You spoke about taving chance Yes. Twenty five years of marriage.
- 1:09:53Speaker 7: Twenty years of marriage, twenty five together.
- 1:09:55Speaker 5: Twenty five together.
- 1:09:56Speaker 11: April nineteen, The Power of strong Union versus the power
- 1:10:01Speaker 11: of showing partnership and being married and having finances together.
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: Talk about the complexities of that shoot.
- 1:10:11Speaker 7: We are very rare.
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: It has always been our money together. We struggled together,
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: and we've never had separate bank accounts that we like
- 1:10:30Speaker 6: keep away from each other everything. For a very long time,
- 1:10:33Speaker 6: we had one. Everything just went in that one. Now
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: we got multiple and but all of them are still ours.
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: We you know, I don't know how other couples do it,
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: because that also is not my business. But for me,
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: it's like, if I ain't got it, he ain't got it.
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: If he got it, I got it right Like, we
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: in it together. So our foundation is locked and we
- 1:11:03Speaker 6: build together.
- 1:11:04Speaker 7: That's that's just what it is.
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: And don't matter how much we get, it's gonna still
- 1:11:11Speaker 6: be the same.
- 1:11:12Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:11:13Speaker 10: So the one the one bank account, because that's an
- 1:11:15Speaker 10: issue that a lot of people face, that's never been
- 1:11:20Speaker 10: an issue for you guys.
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: No, but you gotta understand, we were very young, been
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: together since we was nineteen, that's all we knew. And listen,
- 1:11:29Speaker 6: we had that one bank account and we overdrafted that
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: thing together. Okay, we had no money or you know,
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: many times and we would have to budget, you know,
- 1:11:42Speaker 6: and try to figure it out.
- 1:11:44Speaker 7: And when we started making it.
- 1:11:46Speaker 6: The only time, the very first time he had to
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: get a separate bank account was for a job that
- 1:11:52Speaker 6: required it.
- 1:11:53Speaker 7: They were like, you have to have a bank account.
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: And I was like, oh, you're gonna get a bank account,
- 1:11:57Speaker 6: just gonna do that on me. Yeah, And they would
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: give me one because my credit was too bad back
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: then and so and it was a joke. Then he's like, hey,
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: you see that I got there. Yeah, I got that credit.
- 1:12:07Speaker 6: I was like, you got a six forty cut it out.
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: That was back then. But even then I knew what
- 1:12:14Speaker 6: was in it. Even then he gave me, you know,
- 1:12:17Speaker 6: a bank card.
- 1:12:18Speaker 7: It was never.
- 1:12:21Speaker 9: A question, Yah, won't it it too?
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: Shall become one.
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: Yeah, it was never that, you know, even though you
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: know you have old school you know this is I
- 1:12:30Speaker 6: don't know if this is and my breaking the code.
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: If I say this the woman's code, you know, the
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: women be like, hey, you make sure you always keep
- 1:12:36Speaker 6: a little stance.
- 1:12:36Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: My granny used to tell that, you know, woman should
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: always have a little something, you know, she have a
- 1:12:41Speaker 6: little something stashed away.
- 1:12:44Speaker 10: But yeah, I mean I got to ask you about
- 1:12:47Speaker 10: that before I had a personal situation before years ago.
- 1:12:50Speaker 10: It was like, you know, I'm not doing that.
- 1:13:01Speaker 7: I ain't saying it was the bank account, but I'm
- 1:13:04Speaker 7: just playing.
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: But you know, sometimes if you don't build together, you
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: don't think you deserve to have a bank account together.
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: That's the fact.
- 1:13:16Speaker 10: One last question before we finished this is important to
- 1:13:18Speaker 10: the vegan what exactly should we not be eating?
- 1:13:23Speaker 9: Like, what were you eating? That was an issue?
- 1:13:26Speaker 10: What's some of the things that we should definitely avoid
- 1:13:29Speaker 10: because you know a lot of people say, like even
- 1:13:32Speaker 10: just because you're vegan doesn't necessarily mean.
- 1:13:34Speaker 9: That you're healthy.
- 1:13:35Speaker 10: Right, that's why exactly a junk exactly, they prefer the
- 1:13:38Speaker 10: word like plant based, right, So for educational purposes, Yeah,
- 1:13:42Speaker 10: like what were some of the things that you were eating?
- 1:13:44Speaker 10: And then what were some of the things that you
- 1:13:46Speaker 10: changed to that that changed your life and your health?
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: So this is always kind of what takes people throws
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: them back. I wasn't a terrible eater, right, but I
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: didn't eat to feel well. I ate to look a
- 1:14:02Speaker 6: certain way, which is different. I ate to look I
- 1:14:05Speaker 6: ate to try to be thin. Oh eat a lot, right,
- 1:14:09Speaker 6: I didn't eat a lot, but I wasn't eating to
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: nourish my body. So I have not had red meat
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: or pork since I was fifteen. I was only eating
- 1:14:21Speaker 6: fish and chicken and turkey and veggies. I'm allergic to dairy, right,
- 1:14:26Speaker 6: Dairy almost killed me. So that's first and foremost, none
- 1:14:30Speaker 6: of us should be eating dairy.
- 1:14:31Speaker 9: That's a fact.
- 1:14:32Speaker 7: It is a fact.
- 1:14:33Speaker 6: That's a fact, none of us. For me, I'm also
- 1:14:36Speaker 6: allergic to soy. In the beginning, I was eating it,
- 1:14:39Speaker 6: but I kept like having like moments where I would
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: feel weird and I would get a headache that would
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: start up, and I was like, what is happening? And
- 1:14:48Speaker 6: I did an allergae panel and found out I was
- 1:14:50Speaker 6: allergic to soy. And also, if we listened to our
- 1:14:54Speaker 6: body when we eat something, and our body tells us,
- 1:14:57Speaker 6: it would tell us if it doesn't like it. So
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: I would always tell people, you know, the main things,
- 1:15:04Speaker 6: and a.
- 1:15:05Speaker 7: Lot of people don't want to hear that. We really
- 1:15:06Speaker 7: shouldn't be eating chicken.
- 1:15:08Speaker 9: That's the fact too.
- 1:15:09Speaker 7: We should not be eating chicken.
- 1:15:10Speaker 9: That's a fact. The hormones, the it's different. It's not
- 1:15:15Speaker 9: even the same chicken anymore.
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: It is not and a lot of people always be like, well, tap,
- 1:15:18Speaker 6: my grandma and my granted they live to be you know.
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: Nine.
- 1:15:21Speaker 7: They also knew the names of their animals that they ate.
- 1:15:25Speaker 7: They could. They also probably.
- 1:15:26Speaker 9: Started the chicken does not taste the.
- 1:15:28Speaker 6: Same exactly, And so uh, you know. I never tried
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: to force Beganism on anybody. It is how I live
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: my life. I started it for health reasons, and now
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: I do it for health, for the planet, for the animals.
- 1:15:41Speaker 7: I do it for all that. Why don't I don't
- 1:15:43Speaker 7: wear leather.
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: But the thing that I feel that changed my life
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: was me not eating chicken and soy and of course
- 1:15:53Speaker 6: dairy and it definitely killed me.
- 1:15:57Speaker 9: And then eating greens. So what did you.
- 1:16:00Speaker 6: I eat a lot of live foods like the greens, right,
- 1:16:04Speaker 6: A lot of berries, antioxidants, dark dark berries, dark berries, blueberries, blackberries,
- 1:16:09Speaker 6: even raspberries, right, But leafy greens.
- 1:16:13Speaker 7: Kale is a super food. It is so healthy for us.
- 1:16:18Speaker 7: Collars and not the ones that you're gonna soak in
- 1:16:20Speaker 7: the port in. But you can eat the collars. You
- 1:16:25Speaker 7: can still make them collar greens.
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: But you can use some onion and some mushroom and
- 1:16:28Speaker 6: some garlic to you know, you know, season them, but and.
- 1:16:33Speaker 7: I juice a lot.
- 1:16:34Speaker 9: What do you do for protein?
- 1:16:36Speaker 7: Same thing a cow do for protein?
- 1:16:38Speaker 9: Nothing eat plants.
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: So that's so the misconception is that biggas don't get protein.
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: So I always tell people, well, a lot of people
- 1:16:47Speaker 6: think they get to eat a steak for protein.
- 1:16:50Speaker 7: And I said, what were you think the cow got
- 1:16:51Speaker 7: his protein?
- 1:16:53Speaker 9: It didn't need another cal chickpeas.
- 1:16:55Speaker 6: I love chickpeas, yep, chickpe's proteins, beans.
- 1:17:01Speaker 7: Nuts, lental.
- 1:17:02Speaker 9: What about carbs? Healthy carbs, you know, like sweet potatoes.
- 1:17:05Speaker 7: Sweet potatoes, like wild rice.
- 1:17:08Speaker 9: But not rice, like not white washed potatoes.
- 1:17:12Speaker 6: And now listen, tab gave up potatoes for lent because
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: I love them.
- 1:17:18Speaker 7: My mama used to love them, and I blame nobody
- 1:17:20Speaker 7: who love them that much.
- 1:17:21Speaker 6: I need to give them up for forty days, you know, right, Brea, Okay,
- 1:17:26Speaker 6: but I do. I love sweet potatoes, probably more than
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: you know, the average person. But every now and then
- 1:17:32Speaker 6: I don't do like a white potato. You know, if
- 1:17:34Speaker 6: if I want like a baked potato, I like a
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: like an Asian potato they have like a sweet white potato.
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: There's there's many healthy options of carbs. There's like lental
- 1:17:48Speaker 6: and peapastas that you can have. If you don't want
- 1:17:51Speaker 6: to do like heavy starches, you can do like zucchini
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: and make that into your noodles.
- 1:17:56Speaker 7: A lot of squash. You can use this noodle spaghetti
- 1:17:59Speaker 7: squa you've had so you know, you slice it up.
- 1:18:02Speaker 10: And I'm almost vegan. The only thing I can't so
- 1:18:05Speaker 10: I never ate pork my whole entire life. I stopped
- 1:18:07Speaker 10: eating red meat when I was like eighteen. I stopped
- 1:18:10Speaker 10: eating chicken six years ago, and I've been in I've
- 1:18:13Speaker 10: been like toosing towerant my whole life. So I don't
- 1:18:14Speaker 10: drink milk Harley ever, alert you any ice cream andy
- 1:18:17Speaker 10: thing like that. Only the only thing I need to
- 1:18:19Speaker 10: give up is fish.
- 1:18:20Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, fishes. I love fish.
- 1:18:24Speaker 7: This is my joke.
- 1:18:25Speaker 6: I'd be like, when I'm awake, I'm vegan. When I'm sleep,
- 1:18:29Speaker 6: I'm pescatarian because.
- 1:18:30Speaker 7: I'll be dreaming about you fish. Okay, let me just
- 1:18:32Speaker 7: tell you I count crab legs in my clae.
- 1:18:34Speaker 9: Fish isn't good for you either, right well.
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: You know to me because of how I live my life,
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: and because that was all I was eating, and I
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: was sick. I would think that some people won't agree
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: with that. They'll think, oh, no, you can still eat
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: fish as long as it's a lean fish or as
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: long as it's a white fish, but you know, shellfish
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: and it's high cholesterol. You know, it's terrible for people
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: who have like all the right business.
- 1:19:02Speaker 9: Now.
- 1:19:02Speaker 10: I remember that's how my sister originally because I've been
- 1:19:05Speaker 10: telling for a long time I wanted to be a vegan,
- 1:19:08Speaker 10: and she sent me your page originally like, well, she
- 1:19:11Speaker 10: makes recipes and do her like follow her for to
- 1:19:14Speaker 10: know what you're doing as far as the vegan lifestyle
- 1:19:16Speaker 10: is concerned.
- 1:19:17Speaker 9: I just realized that I just remember.
- 1:19:18Speaker 7: That just be trying to help.
- 1:19:22Speaker 11: So like this is my final point, because thank you
- 1:19:25Speaker 11: for your tongue. You been gracious with it. But a
- 1:19:27Speaker 11: lot of times people walk up to us and they
- 1:19:29Speaker 11: talk about how this financial education that we have gone
- 1:19:32Speaker 11: has changed given has changed their lives. How's that been
- 1:19:36Speaker 11: for you as far as changing people from a healthy standpoint?
- 1:19:38Speaker 11: With the recipes, like what are some of the like
- 1:19:41Speaker 11: to you know, most rewarding stories that.
- 1:19:43Speaker 6: You've had, they are all they they are the things
- 1:19:46Speaker 6: that blessed me to make me know like, Oh, this
- 1:19:49Speaker 6: is what God wanted me to do when people say
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: I was a diabetic and I started watching your videos
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: and I eat what you eat. For the last six months,
- 1:19:56Speaker 6: I'm not diabetic anymore. It's been on blood pressure medication.
- 1:19:59Speaker 6: I'm not don bla upressure medication anymore. I've lost fifty pounds.
- 1:20:03Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:20:04Speaker 6: I'm not even on anxiety medication anymore. You know, I
- 1:20:08Speaker 6: used to have asthma. I didn't realize that I hadn't
- 1:20:10Speaker 6: used my inhaler until I was moving. It was a
- 1:20:14Speaker 6: year and a half after being began. I haven't used
- 1:20:17Speaker 6: my inhaler now in almost six years. I don't have
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: asthma anymore. But people tell me those things and I'm like,
- 1:20:24Speaker 6: oh my god. You know, even with skin, people don't
- 1:20:28Speaker 6: realize how much what you eat affects your skin.
- 1:20:31Speaker 7: And that blesses me.
- 1:20:34Speaker 6: You know that people are changing their lives for the better,
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: and I never take the credit for it. I consider
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: myself a vessel, you know, and a messenger. But I'm
- 1:20:47Speaker 6: just sharing my story and how it changed my life.
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: And I'm grateful that people say, oh, let me try
- 1:20:52Speaker 6: it for me. That's why I would never force what
- 1:20:55Speaker 6: I do on anybody. I just simply share and I
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: try to root it in love and laughter. But when
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: people tell me that, of course I have cried and
- 1:21:03Speaker 6: hugged people and just been grateful that God uses me
- 1:21:07Speaker 6: in that capacity.
- 1:21:09Speaker 10: Yeah, oh, thank you, thank you. We appreciate it. You
- 1:21:13Speaker 10: got to get to your son's game. But definitely, UH
- 1:21:17Speaker 10: would love for you to come back at some point
- 1:21:19Speaker 10: in time. And I look forward to, you know, developing
- 1:21:21Speaker 10: a strong relationship with you. We got a lot of
- 1:21:23Speaker 10: different things that we do, so I'm sure we can
- 1:21:24Speaker 10: potentially work together. And yeah, I hope my sister is
- 1:21:28Speaker 10: now happy that we got and I'm going to become
- 1:21:31Speaker 10: a vegan one more, have like every flush, every fish
- 1:21:37Speaker 10: on the table.
- 1:21:37Speaker 6: Because I have a friend who is vegan, you know what,
- 1:21:40Speaker 6: plant based uh, pretty much all the time unless she travels.
- 1:21:44Speaker 6: And when she travels, she's like, I got to try
- 1:21:46Speaker 6: to fish in other countries.
- 1:21:48Speaker 7: Uh, And so you know, maybe I'll do that.
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: I think my life has been changed to honey, if
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: you're watching.
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: Oh, somebody about to go vegan thirty days, let's just
- 1:21:57Speaker 6: try listen together.
- 1:21:59Speaker 9: Oh.
- 1:22:00Speaker 6: Like I always tell people, you deserve to try something,
- 1:22:04Speaker 6: whether it's veganism, whether it's a business venture, whatever the
- 1:22:08Speaker 6: case is.
- 1:22:09Speaker 7: Thirty days, you're worthy of thirty days.
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna try it.
- 1:22:13Speaker 7: Yeah, thirty days.
