- 2:54Speaker 3: now because Christmas is always big in South Charleston always
- 2:58Speaker 3: as Vicky Vaughn. As with the City of Charleston, South
- 3:00Speaker 3: Charleston and the CVB, there is that rights center. Yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 3: that's great to have you with us. And you are
- 3:06Speaker 3: not responsible in any way, shape, form or fashion for
- 3:09Speaker 3: the Christmas tree at the Capitol falling. Is that right?
- 3:11Speaker 3: I am not all right If you don't know what
- 3:14Speaker 3: we're talking about, we get pictures posted about. It's the
- 3:16Speaker 3: lead story this Morningwe metro news dot com. They had
- 3:18Speaker 3: the Joyful Night celebration there last night and because of
- 3:22Speaker 3: the high winds the tree fell. I'm sure they're working
- 3:26Speaker 3: on as we speak to put it back up again. Yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 3: but it fell that this morning. But you are not
- 3:30Speaker 3: responsible for that. No, I am not anyway. So what
- 3:34Speaker 3: do we have going on in South Charleston.
- 3:36Speaker 6: Well, Friday evening we have the Christmas tree lining and
- 3:40Speaker 6: drone show over the mound and it begins at five
- 3:44Speaker 6: point thirty. It goes until seven o'clock. We'll have Christmas music.
- 3:48Speaker 6: The Women's Club of South Charleston will serve free hot chocolate. Also,
- 3:52Speaker 6: the Road South Charleston Rotary Club will serve free hot
- 3:55Speaker 6: chocolate and cookies. Downtown Ford free cookies, we'll have frost
- 4:00Speaker 6: see Rudolph snow White. Santa will be on stage for
- 4:03Speaker 6: the children to sit on his lap and tell them
- 4:05Speaker 6: what they want for Christmas. And we will be passing
- 4:08Speaker 6: out candy canes, coloring books, crayons, and we're just really
- 4:12Speaker 6: excited about the drone show that'll happen around six point
- 4:15Speaker 6: thirty and then the Mayor of South Charleston will like
- 4:19Speaker 6: the tree at six forty five.
- 4:20Speaker 3: And that's all coming up tomorrow tomorrow, tomorrow night, all right,
- 4:24Speaker 3: and so and I know your businesses are going to
- 4:26Speaker 3: be a big part of that as well. Yeah, you
- 4:28Speaker 3: mentioned a few of them there, because we want to
- 4:29Speaker 3: encourage people that when you go out to these events,
- 4:31Speaker 3: whether it's South Charleston or any time, to try to
- 4:34Speaker 3: make time to stop into the businesses that are open.
- 4:36Speaker 6: Down there exactly. And there also is a window decorating
- 4:39Speaker 6: contest in South Charleston, and so check out the windows,
- 4:43Speaker 6: decide which one is your favorite, and then you can
- 4:45Speaker 6: get on our website, visit south Charleston, WV dot com
- 4:49Speaker 6: and vote for your favorite favorite window decoration and that
- 4:53Speaker 6: puts you in a drawing for a five hundred dollars
- 4:56Speaker 6: value basket of lots of goodies and gift cards. Shops
- 5:00Speaker 6: in South.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Charles, and there are plenty of shops in South Charleston.
- 5:03Speaker 6: Definitely.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they got a lot of little quaint
- 5:07Speaker 3: to hate that term because it's so over you, but
- 5:09Speaker 3: a lot of little quaint shops in South Charles. We
- 5:11Speaker 3: definitely have had bigger shops too.
- 5:13Speaker 6: Yes, we certainly do.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Talk with Vicky Vaughan again from the Sydney of South
- 5:18Speaker 3: Charles and the Visitors Center. Now, the Christmas Parade is
- 5:20Speaker 3: going to be Saturday, and that's one of over the
- 5:25Speaker 3: next couple of days. That's well Charleston was postponed tonight,
- 5:27Speaker 3: but one of four that our station are going to
- 5:29Speaker 3: be involved in, one Friday night and three on Saturday.
- 5:31Speaker 3: So we're looking forward to it. Talking about the Christmas.
- 5:33Speaker 6: Breade, Yes, the Christmas Parade will be at twelve noon
- 5:36Speaker 6: on D Street. There's plenty of parking on all the
- 5:40Speaker 6: side streets. D Street will be blocked off obviously because
- 5:43Speaker 6: that's where the parade will be. There'll be lots of
- 5:46Speaker 6: candy thrown out for the kids, decorated floats, grinches, Santa
- 5:50Speaker 6: church groups, Spinny keatam Highland Landers, the band, the Bagpipes,
- 5:56Speaker 6: the Oriental Band. We'll have motorcycles, classic cars, antique track.
- 6:00Speaker 6: There's dancers, marching bands, beauty queens and twirlers. So bring
- 6:04Speaker 6: bundle up, bring the kids, and it's going to be
- 6:07Speaker 6: such a fun, fun parade. We have about one hundred
- 6:10Speaker 6: units in the Prey this year.
- 6:12Speaker 3: It's always big. I mean, any guys do it upright,
- 6:15Speaker 3: whether it's this parade or whatever, you know, the other
- 6:17Speaker 3: praise that you do. Can people still sign up to
- 6:19Speaker 3: be in the Prey?
- 6:20Speaker 6: They absolutely can.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Yes, That's what's the best way to do that.
- 6:24Speaker 6: They what they want to do is get on our website,
- 6:28Speaker 6: which is visit South CHARLESTONWV dot com, and right there
- 6:32Speaker 6: on the front pages a sign up for the parade.
- 6:35Speaker 3: We'll get back to talking about the Christmas stuff in
- 6:37Speaker 3: South Charleston here in a capital moments. But I'm going
- 6:39Speaker 3: to ask you about your role as as president. You're
- 6:42Speaker 3: with the Visitors Center there in South Charleston. Tell me
- 6:47Speaker 3: about some of the things that you do and some
- 6:49Speaker 3: some other exciting things going on in South Charleston.
- 6:52Speaker 6: I am with the Visitor Center, so I am to
- 6:54Speaker 6: promote anything in South Charleston, and my focuses are places
- 6:58Speaker 6: to eat and events going on. So that's what I do.
- 7:03Speaker 6: I promote anything South Charleston and the events, work on
- 7:08Speaker 6: the events, and so we on social media we tell
- 7:12Speaker 6: you about everything going on and also places you can
- 7:15Speaker 6: shop and eat and fun things that you can do.
- 7:18Speaker 6: So that is what I do.
- 7:21Speaker 3: But Dave Island Chilling five eighty line is brought to

- 7:35Speaker 3: your nearest Hustans for delivery, pickup, or dine in at
- 7:38Speaker 3: Huston's Pizza dot com. What do you think are some
- 7:39Speaker 3: of the biggest misconceptions about South Charleston.
- 7:42Speaker 6: Vicki's it seems like it's a small town, but it's
- 7:47Speaker 6: really not. There's something going on all the time. You know,
- 7:50Speaker 6: we have the ice skating rink. We something that people
- 7:53Speaker 6: don't know is we have a museum right beside the
- 7:55Speaker 6: Lavelle Theater on D Street, and that museum has Carbid artifacts.
- 8:00Speaker 6: It has everything that was in the mound, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 6: mockups of everything that was in the mound and the
- 8:07Speaker 6: Ordnance Center information. So it is it is full of
- 8:12Speaker 6: different things for you to see, arrowheads, Indian eraheads and
- 8:16Speaker 6: all that. It's like a hidden gym in South Charleston.
- 8:18Speaker 3: And with all these activities that have been going on
- 8:21Speaker 3: in the Kanaal Valley, I mean it's really ramped up
- 8:23Speaker 3: over the last couple of years, you know, sports tourism
- 8:26Speaker 3: and what's going on out Shawnee and what's going on,
- 8:29Speaker 3: you know in Charleston with Regatta and all these different
- 8:32Speaker 3: festivals and on down to Putnam County too, and include
- 8:35Speaker 3: those folks in here as well. South Charleston is a
- 8:38Speaker 3: good location for people to check out when they come
- 8:41Speaker 3: to town.
- 8:41Speaker 6: We are in the middle of everything and we have
- 8:45Speaker 6: several hotels and the hotels are really nice and so
- 8:48Speaker 6: people really like to stay in our hotels. We have
- 8:51Speaker 6: a fair Field by Marriott. We have a holiday in
- 8:53Speaker 6: Charleston West that has an indoor swimming pool and that's
- 8:56Speaker 6: a draw for a lot of people. And don't forget
- 8:59Speaker 6: about Little Creek Park, so when people are visiting, they
- 9:02Speaker 6: can go over to the park and new this year,
- 9:04Speaker 6: we have lights in the park, the first annual and
- 9:08Speaker 6: so that will be every evening from six to nine
- 9:12Speaker 6: until Christmas Eve and it's free, there's no charge. And
- 9:16Speaker 6: on the thirteenth December thirteenth and fourteenth there will be
- 9:20Speaker 6: Santa and the kids can have free hot chocolate and
- 9:22Speaker 6: cookies and see Santa.
- 9:24Speaker 3: It's a lot of exciting stuff going on there in
- 9:26Speaker 3: South Charleston. Of course, you got the mall project and
- 9:28Speaker 3: it's not not said something you're here to talk about,
- 9:30Speaker 3: but you got the mall project and also excited about yeah,
- 9:33Speaker 3: because it's going to be a really really big deal.
- 9:35Speaker 3: It already is. And then there's some changes coming to
- 9:38Speaker 3: the South Charleston Community Center I understand as well, just
- 9:40Speaker 3: to report about.
- 9:41Speaker 6: That the other day, Invention Center and Sports center. So
- 9:44Speaker 6: we're excited about can you give it to you. I
- 9:48Speaker 6: don't really have the information on that. I'm not on the.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Economics development, but it's going to be a big deal.
- 9:53Speaker 6: But it's going to be a big deal, and I'm
- 9:56Speaker 6: sure the mayor would like to come in absolutely.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I talked to the mayor yesterday. In fact, anytime that
- 10:01Speaker 3: any of our mayors are have something to promote, all
- 10:05Speaker 3: they could do is reach out to me. Let's go
- 10:06Speaker 3: back and kind of recap everything you got going on
- 10:09Speaker 3: tomorrow night and also on Saturday christ So.
- 10:13Speaker 6: The tree lighting and drone show at the Mound and
- 10:16Speaker 6: the drune show, it's very captivating. It's a wonderful thing
- 10:20Speaker 6: to see in the sky. You know, we had one
- 10:23Speaker 6: at Summerfest and people loved it. There's going to be
- 10:25Speaker 6: music there, the free hot chocolate cookies. We have characters
- 10:30Speaker 6: Frosty Rootolph, snow White Santa on stage for the kids.
- 10:33Speaker 6: We're going to be passing out candy canes, coloring books
- 10:35Speaker 6: and crayons. And the drune show begins at six thirty
- 10:39Speaker 6: and the Mayor will light the tree at six forty five.
- 10:42Speaker 6: Don't forget to follow the South Charleston Convention and visitor
- 10:45Speaker 6: Beer on social media. We will have the parade at
- 10:48Speaker 6: twelve noon. There's lots of side street parking, There'll be
- 10:52Speaker 6: lots of candy thrown out, lots of really cool things
- 10:55Speaker 6: in the parade, one hundred different units to see. Bundle
- 10:57Speaker 6: the kids up and come. They're going to have a
- 10:59Speaker 6: blast and Little Creek Park the lights there now from
- 11:02Speaker 6: six to nine each evening through December twenty fourth, and
- 11:06Speaker 6: on the thirteenth and fourteenth of December, they'll be Santa
- 11:10Speaker 6: for the kids, hot chocolate and cookies.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Lots of stuff going on in South Charleston, and you
- 11:14Speaker 3: can check out what's the give us a couple of
- 11:16Speaker 3: the social media sites in the way again.
- 11:18Speaker 6: On Facebook and Instagram. It's the South Charleston Convention and
- 11:23Speaker 6: Visitor Bureau. And then also we have that would be
- 11:30Speaker 6: the social media that you would want to check. And
- 11:33Speaker 6: then our website where you can vote for your favorite
- 11:36Speaker 6: decorated Christmas decorated window is visit South Charleston, WV dot
- 11:42Speaker 6: com is our website. So there's a lot of good
- 11:45Speaker 6: information on there.
- 11:46Speaker 3: All right, Vick, you appreciate you being here. I got
- 11:48Speaker 3: a text here. I don't think you can do anything
- 11:50Speaker 3: about this, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyways.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Text says, anyway, you can speak to the owner of
- 11:54Speaker 3: Susie's and let them know we would love if they
- 11:56Speaker 3: would stay open past nude. They would make a killing
- 11:58Speaker 3: if they stayed open until say eight o'clock.
- 12:01Speaker 6: Okay, I'll pass along that information. I don't know if
- 12:04Speaker 6: you've ever had Susie's ham sandwich on a biscuit.
- 12:08Speaker 3: It is like to die for. That's what you know.
- 12:11Speaker 3: I've got to every now and then I'll get a
- 12:13Speaker 3: text to the show about Susie's, and I keep attempting
- 12:17Speaker 3: to make it there. I'm going to have to tell
- 12:19Speaker 3: the mayor. Here's what I want of the mayor. Tell
- 12:22Speaker 3: Mayor Mullins that he owes me breakfast for breakfast doesn't
- 12:26Speaker 3: work for me, but he needs to he owes me
- 12:27Speaker 3: lunch there. How's that?
- 12:28Speaker 6: Okay, that sounds like a good plan.
- 12:29Speaker 3: All right, you can't appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Hang out with you one second. It is nine nineteen.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Oh hold on, hold on, got a question. Will the
- 12:37Speaker 3: Drone show be live streamed? If you can't make it downtown?
- 12:40Speaker 6: It will not. The parade will be live stream, but
- 12:43Speaker 6: the Drone show will not.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Okay, all right, all right, I promise you're done now.

- 16:27Speaker 3: two o'clock this afternoon. Also, the governor is coming under
- 16:31Speaker 3: fire from some for directing some funds from his discretionary
- 16:34Speaker 3: fund to the school where he just happens to be
- 16:35Speaker 3: the girls basketball coach, Greenbrier East, So Brad will get
- 16:39Speaker 3: into that hobby. Last night on the Capitol Grounds, the
- 16:41Speaker 3: State's annual Joyful Night celebration was held to kick off
- 16:44Speaker 3: the Christmas season at the Capitol. The State's tree was
- 16:48Speaker 3: put up and then with the high winds, the tree
- 16:50Speaker 3: fell down last night. We got a picture posted about that.
- 16:54Speaker 3: As Chris said this morning, it's actually laying Lincoln's feet
- 16:57Speaker 3: on the Capitol grounds. At least it was early. I'm
- 16:59Speaker 3: sure they're probably working on it as we speak to
- 17:01Speaker 3: get it back up if they haven't already. Chris Lawrence
- 17:04Speaker 3: will join Hoppy to talk about the Apple's former Charleston
- 17:06Speaker 3: mayor Danny Jones is on. There are some major concerns
- 17:10Speaker 3: about the declining enrollment at West Virginia University. Hopey, we'll
- 17:13Speaker 3: get into that. And rumors continue to swirl that Marshall
- 17:16Speaker 3: head football coach Charles Huff may be leaving the Herd,
- 17:19Speaker 3: of course, set to play for the Sun Belt Conference championship.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Saturday night, Dave Wilson will join Hoppy to talk a
- 17:24Speaker 3: little Herd football, all that more. Ten oh six Metro

- 17:41Speaker 3: He is the new county manager for Kanawha County. Joins
- 17:44Speaker 3: us now in the par of Marshroll's studio. Jeremy, good morning,
- 17:47Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. Good morning, Thanks for having me.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Give us a little background on Jeremy.
- 17:51Speaker 10: Who are you good question? Well, I grew up here
- 17:55Speaker 10: in Kennall County. I graduated from Niro High School in
- 17:58Speaker 10: nineteen ninety six. Uh grew up in Cross Lanes and
- 18:03Speaker 10: I went to school at Glenville State on a basketball scholarship,
- 18:06Speaker 10: and then I ended up transferring to w U got
- 18:08Speaker 10: my undergrad from there, and I came back here to Charleston.
- 18:11Speaker 10: I actually worked here downtown for I was an accountant
- 18:14Speaker 10: for the Charleston alley Cats, and then they converged over
- 18:18Speaker 10: to the Power and I was part of the new
- 18:20Speaker 10: Appalachian Power Parks as the team accountant there, and then
- 18:24Speaker 10: I moved on to Brooksallivin LifeWay Center. I was the
- 18:27Speaker 10: CFO for for the nonprofit agency there. And then a
- 18:31Speaker 10: job opportunity popped up in Putnam County and I got
- 18:33Speaker 10: into county government. I ended up being the county manager
- 18:36Speaker 10: for Putnham County for ten years. And this opportunity that
- 18:39Speaker 10: came up in Connall, Jennifer Harold retired or left to
- 18:45Speaker 10: go out of state, and she did a wonderful job.
- 18:48Speaker 3: I was gonna that was gonna be one of my
- 18:49Speaker 3: comments about Jennifer. You had some pretty big shoes to
- 18:51Speaker 3: fill there, man.
- 18:52Speaker 10: Yes, absolutely, And and uh, you know, I've not heard
- 18:54Speaker 10: one bad word about Jennifer. She she has done an
- 18:57Speaker 10: excellent job and and kind of grew up within the
- 18:59Speaker 10: courthouse here at all counties.
- 19:00Speaker 3: She and her husband are fellow Georgia Bulldogs fans, so
- 19:03Speaker 3: like I am right, And so I said that on
- 19:05Speaker 3: the air a couple of times, and she would send
- 19:06Speaker 3: me a text about it, and I actually got to
- 19:08Speaker 3: meet him at an event downtown. We talked a little
- 19:10Speaker 3: Georgia football.
- 19:11Speaker 10: So yeah, I mean, I still get to tie. I
- 19:13Speaker 10: just just got off the phone with her earlier this morning.
- 19:14Speaker 10: She's still in a contract with the county on on
- 19:18Speaker 10: certain things that she was involved with in the transition,
- 19:20Speaker 10: so she's going to be very helpful. And I feel like,
- 19:23Speaker 10: you know, working in Putnam County, we've had a lot
- 19:25Speaker 10: of projects over the years and a lot of positive
- 19:27Speaker 10: things there that that have increased my knowledge of of
- 19:31Speaker 10: how county government works. And you know, when when this
- 19:34Speaker 10: opportunity came up, I thought it was something that would
- 19:37Speaker 10: be really good at. And you know, I've really enjoyed
- 19:39Speaker 10: working in county government. It's really unique because you know,
- 19:42Speaker 10: you work for three different commissioners, but also the relationships
- 19:46Speaker 10: within the courthouse of other elected officials, and it's kind
- 19:49Speaker 10: of like being the peacemaker, being the county manager and
- 19:51Speaker 10: making sure everybody's you know, moving in the right direction,
- 19:54Speaker 10: and making sure everybody has open lines of communication.
- 19:58Speaker 4: You know. But it's exciting.
- 20:00Speaker 10: You know. I like to say, no two days are
- 20:01Speaker 10: the same in county government, and that's why it's exciting
- 20:04Speaker 10: to get up and go to work every day because
- 20:05Speaker 10: you you know, it's not always positive things, as we know,
- 20:08Speaker 10: but but you know, I never turned down a challenge
- 20:11Speaker 10: and it's been really exciting and be able to come
- 20:13Speaker 10: back home to the county I grew up in and
- 20:16Speaker 10: be able to to help and keep moving the county forward.
- 20:21Speaker 4: Is exciting to me.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Talk about some of the duties. What is on the
- 20:24Speaker 3: job description. I know you mentioned some of it there,
- 20:26Speaker 3: but overall, what are the job duties of a county manager?
- 20:29Speaker 10: Yeah, and every county is a little bit different. We're
- 20:31Speaker 10: fortunate here in Kanaw County to have a larger staff.
- 20:34Speaker 10: Obviously it's a it's a big county, but here in Kanaw,
- 20:38Speaker 10: it you know, it's a lot of it's a lot
- 20:39Speaker 10: about relationship building. It's it's managing your your staff inside
- 20:43Speaker 10: the courthouse. You know, there's multiple departments that that report
- 20:47Speaker 10: to to the County Commission that are under our control,
- 20:50Speaker 10: you know, so managing those department heads on a daily
- 20:53Speaker 10: basis and any employee related matters, making sure that we
- 20:57Speaker 10: we stay on budget, all the budgeting go through through
- 21:00Speaker 10: the commission office, you know, and being on constant communication
- 21:05Speaker 10: with with your commissioners, and you know, making sure that
- 21:08Speaker 10: you're prepared for anything that needs to be made public,
- 21:12Speaker 10: you know, and getting ready for commission meetings, and you know,
- 21:14Speaker 10: there's there's just really a lot to it, but it's
- 21:17Speaker 10: it's about managing people, managing budget, and have working relationships
- 21:22Speaker 10: with with the public.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Speaking of the County Commission, we would be remiss if
- 21:26Speaker 3: we did not mention that today is the birthday of
- 21:29Speaker 3: one of the Knaw County Commission, the Commission President Lance Wheeler.
- 21:31Speaker 3: So we want to give a big shout out at.
- 21:33Speaker 10: Wheel Happy birthday to the commission President.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Mister Wheeler.
- 21:36Speaker 3: You got to keep your boss happy, that's right, you know.
- 21:38Speaker 3: So what are some of the things that are on
- 21:41Speaker 3: your radar now, Jeremy, as you head into the new
- 21:45Speaker 3: year and the year twenty twenty five. I mean, what
- 21:47Speaker 3: are some of the things that have got you excited
- 21:49Speaker 3: about Knawa County moving forward?
- 21:51Speaker 10: Well, you know, there's a lot of positive things going on.
- 21:54Speaker 10: I think, you know, from a from a tourist standpoint,
- 21:57Speaker 10: I know that the county and both the city with
- 22:00Speaker 10: Mayor Goodwin, they've they've done a lot of really good
- 22:03Speaker 10: things to revitalize downtown Charleston and bring people back to
- 22:07Speaker 10: the city. I know the Capital Sports Project is one
- 22:10Speaker 10: that has been discussed a little bit with the mall.
- 22:13Speaker 10: And you know, growing up with or having kids in sports,
- 22:16Speaker 10: and I still coach girls basketball high school, so just
- 22:20Speaker 10: seeing youth activities for kids and I see what that
- 22:24Speaker 10: sports tourism has done in other communities when we've gone
- 22:27Speaker 10: out of state, and to be able to have something
- 22:29Speaker 10: like that here locally, I think it's going to be
- 22:32Speaker 10: a huge draw for not just for for financial reasons,
- 22:35Speaker 10: but for forgiving youth plau a place to go to
- 22:38Speaker 10: to to work out, to play sports, and to draw
- 22:42Speaker 10: people back into the town center because as we know,
- 22:45Speaker 10: everything's kind of moved away to the outlet malls and
- 22:47Speaker 10: things like that, so to get that foot traffic, I
- 22:50Speaker 10: think that's exciting. Also, we're we're involved with the judicial project.
- 22:54Speaker 10: I know we we we had initial bids that that
- 22:57Speaker 10: came over budget, so that's something that we're on top
- 23:00Speaker 10: of and trying to go back to the drawing board
- 23:03Speaker 10: and making sure that we're we're able to complete that
- 23:05Speaker 10: project under budget. It is going to be a lengthy
- 23:07Speaker 10: project is as you know, we have to stay open,
- 23:09Speaker 10: the courts have to stay open during this, so it's
- 23:11Speaker 10: going to take a little longer to go through that remodel,
- 23:14Speaker 10: but we we we're going to make sure that we
- 23:17Speaker 10: get it done and under budget and on time.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Let's go back and talk a little bit about the
- 23:21Speaker 3: proposed Capital Sports Center. I mean I know, and every
- 23:24Speaker 3: time I have a commissioner Selangowan, he says, well, we
- 23:26Speaker 3: got we have number one. We have to get another name.
- 23:28Speaker 3: We know that we've all just kind of been calling
- 23:30Speaker 3: it that, but it will eventually have another name. Where
- 23:32Speaker 3: are you and what is your vision? What would you
- 23:35Speaker 3: like to see happen there at the well?
- 23:36Speaker 10: And I've not been in any meeting, so I don't
- 23:39Speaker 10: speak for for anybody else, but but obviously I know
- 23:42Speaker 10: that you know, having having indoor facilities that have basketball, volleyball.
- 23:49Speaker 3: I know there's been mentioned of a pool. I don't
- 23:50Speaker 3: know if that's going to happen or not.
- 23:51Speaker 10: I know there's a lot of folks out there that
- 23:53Speaker 10: that that see the need for for a you know,
- 23:56Speaker 10: Olympic sized swimming pool and so forth. But you know,
- 24:00Speaker 10: have an indoor you know, we've had, We've got the
- 24:02Speaker 10: Shawnee Sports Complex. I know in Putnam County we had
- 24:04Speaker 10: the Valley Park project and the city Hurricane did a
- 24:07Speaker 10: project and we've seen what that does from a baseball
- 24:09Speaker 10: standpoint in outdoor sports, but there's really not that indoor
- 24:14Speaker 10: facility like you said at Bridgeport and Wheeling and some
- 24:17Speaker 10: of these places in the state that have that and
- 24:20Speaker 10: just how positive that is. So, you know, just just
- 24:24Speaker 10: having the flexibility of multiple sports where it's not locked
- 24:27Speaker 10: into one or two, where you got four or five,
- 24:30Speaker 10: six different types of sports in one big venue, I
- 24:32Speaker 10: think is going to be huge.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Talking to Jeremy Young again, who is the new county
- 24:37Speaker 3: manager here in kanaw Canton. One of the things about
- 24:39Speaker 3: Kanawah County that I think sometimes, you know, West Virginia
- 24:42Speaker 3: as a whole is a is a smaller sized state,
- 24:46Speaker 3: you know, compared to other states. And Kanawah County, though,
- 24:48Speaker 3: is the largest county in the state. And the diversity
- 24:51Speaker 3: of Kanawah County and what I mean by that, And
- 24:53Speaker 3: I talk with the commissioners all the time about this
- 24:55Speaker 3: what necessarily it seems like sometimes they can there's there's
- 24:59Speaker 3: so much of a disc between let's say, the Upper
- 25:01Speaker 3: Canal Valley into into Saint Albans into downtown Charleston. And
- 25:04Speaker 3: as a county manager and the county commissioners as well,
- 25:07Speaker 3: and for that matter, all of county government, you've got
- 25:09Speaker 3: to kind of got to bring all these people in.
- 25:12Speaker 3: You got to dip your toe in the water of
- 25:13Speaker 3: everything going on in every individual area.
- 25:16Speaker 10: Yeah, Yeah, that's that's a challenge for sure. And you know,
- 25:19Speaker 10: we kind of had that in Putnam County. You know,
- 25:21Speaker 10: people people would like to say, oh, the north side
- 25:23Speaker 10: of the River and south southern different, two different regions.
- 25:27Speaker 10: So it's no different here, you know. And and I
- 25:30Speaker 10: think the commissioners, from what I understand, do a really
- 25:33Speaker 10: good job of including everybody. You know. I think the
- 25:37Speaker 10: for example, the Coonskin Park event was very well attended.
- 25:42Speaker 10: I think Commissioner Wheeler attended that. But from what the
- 25:45Speaker 10: feedback that I got was the Christmas event, Yes, a
- 25:47Speaker 10: Christmas event, I believe that was Tuesday night, and you know,
- 25:50Speaker 10: I think that was something for not just here in Charleston,
- 25:53Speaker 10: but but folks on the east end of the county
- 25:55Speaker 10: that that's probably more accessible to two events up at Coonskin.
- 25:58Speaker 10: So I know that they're there's food pantries on the
- 26:02Speaker 10: east end that the commissioners are are wanting to help. So,
- 26:07Speaker 10: you know, just being inclusive of everyone in the in
- 26:09Speaker 10: the county. And I know that's a hard challenge being
- 26:12Speaker 10: so diverse, but I do know that the commissioners have
- 26:15Speaker 10: every resident at their best interest here.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Well, Jeremy, we certainly wish you the best of luck
- 26:21Speaker 3: with the job. As we said, you get some pretty
- 26:22Speaker 3: big shoes to fill with With Jennifer Oakli, she did
- 26:24Speaker 3: a fantastic job and you did a great I know
- 26:27Speaker 3: of your work in Putnam County where I live, and
- 26:28Speaker 3: so I know you'll do a great job here in
- 26:30Speaker 3: Kanawa County. Appreciate you being here. You're always welcome on

- 30:47Speaker 4: Good morning, how are you doing today?
- 30:49Speaker 3: I'm doing fine. So you know, the calendar may say, Matt,
- 30:54Speaker 3: that it's technically still fall it is, but the meteorological
- 30:58Speaker 3: folks will tell you that it's geological winter. And if
- 31:02Speaker 3: you stepped outside this morning and throughout the day to day,
- 31:05Speaker 3: you are going to feel that. And I guess some
- 31:07Speaker 3: people are happy about it. I'll talk to Joe Stevens
- 31:09Speaker 3: from the Ski Association. I mean, he's took go to
- 31:11Speaker 3: death about it, but for others it could create some issues.
- 31:14Speaker 3: And the decision was made yesterday I guess what two
- 31:17Speaker 3: two thirty or so, when we first got the word
- 31:19Speaker 3: that the Christmas Parade in Charleston would be postponed. Talk
- 31:22Speaker 3: about that.
- 31:23Speaker 12: Decision, yes, I mean, you know, as you know, Dave,
- 31:25Speaker 12: because you help us promote a lot of them. As
- 31:27Speaker 12: we do a lot of events in the city of Charleston,
- 31:29Speaker 12: right we have a lot of things from big to small.
- 31:32Speaker 12: And when people come to the mayor with ideas that
- 31:34Speaker 12: the answer is typically yes, with the caveat if we
- 31:37Speaker 12: can do it safely, and that always becomes the number
- 31:40Speaker 12: one priority is that can we do it safely? And
- 31:43Speaker 12: as we've began to track the weather and we began
- 31:46Speaker 12: to talk to various individuals, including our Homeland Security Director,
- 31:50Speaker 12: Chad Jones, our events coordinator and parade coordinator, and Miranda
- 31:55Speaker 12: Dylan and others, it became clear that we weren't going
- 31:58Speaker 12: to be able to do this safely tonight, and the
- 32:00Speaker 12: decision was made to postpone the parade till December seventeenth
- 32:03Speaker 12: at seven pm, same setup, same line up, everything will
- 32:07Speaker 12: happen exactly the same one the seventeenth, but it just
- 32:10Speaker 12: wasn't going to be safe. And I think that the
- 32:12Speaker 12: final decision was made after some conversations with local school
- 32:17Speaker 12: bands Capital High GW.
- 32:18Speaker 4: John Adams, and they did not feel comfortable.
- 32:21Speaker 12: With their with their kids participating, and we completely understood
- 32:24Speaker 12: that and we weren't going to put anybody, especially our youth,
- 32:27Speaker 12: in any potential danger tonight. And then and then just
- 32:29Speaker 12: the logistics of wind, right, I mean, when wind happens,
- 32:32Speaker 12: it's hard for floats, it's hard for.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Some people to see the Capitol Christmas tree.
- 32:36Speaker 4: That's right, Yeah, that's right.
- 32:37Speaker 12: So you know, we a couple of years ago, Holly
- 32:40Speaker 12: Jolly Bradley, we we dealt with a lot of wind
- 32:42Speaker 12: issues with our Christmas trees. And thankfully we have an
- 32:44Speaker 12: amazing public grounds crew that built these. If you go
- 32:47Speaker 12: look at the boxes that are under the trees for
- 32:49Speaker 12: Holly Jolly Bradley, those are very stylish, but they're also
- 32:52Speaker 12: are practical. They were built with the purpose of not
- 32:54Speaker 12: letting the trees turn over, and we only had a
- 32:56Speaker 12: couple that bent over last night. So a lot goes
- 33:00Speaker 12: into that and you learn a lot. But with wind
- 33:02Speaker 12: and then the wind shield tonight, it just wasn't worth it.
- 33:05Speaker 3: It's never easy to make a decision like that because
- 33:08Speaker 3: no matter what you do, Matt, somebody ain't going to
- 33:11Speaker 3: be happy.
- 33:11Speaker 4: Sure's I mean, that's with anything.
- 33:13Speaker 12: But at the end of the day, safety comes first,
- 33:16Speaker 12: the safety of our citizens, the safety of our staff
- 33:19Speaker 12: and everybody who was going to participate.
- 33:21Speaker 4: It's not worth it.
- 33:22Speaker 12: Yes, there will always be negative comments, there will always
- 33:24Speaker 12: be things on social media, but we're all very content
- 33:28Speaker 12: with the decision and it really wasn't that difficult decision
- 33:30Speaker 12: at the end of the day, because one is is
- 33:33Speaker 12: we want as many people to participate as possible. So
- 33:35Speaker 12: if people were going to start to not participate, then
- 33:37Speaker 12: that makes the parade less than what it should be.
- 33:39Speaker 12: People weren't going to be able to come out with
- 33:40Speaker 12: their kids. You know, we have a lot of staff
- 33:42Speaker 12: members that have very young kids and just asking them,
- 33:44Speaker 12: are you willing to bring your kids out? And when
- 33:45Speaker 12: they start saying no, then that's very clear to us
- 33:48Speaker 12: that not only is it not safe, but we're actually
- 33:50Speaker 12: going to have a not as good a parade as
- 33:52Speaker 12: we want to have. So we want to put on
- 33:54Speaker 12: the best show as we possibly can. That goes into
- 33:56Speaker 12: it as well, but you know it's easy to sit
- 33:59Speaker 12: online and say, oh, I'd stand out there. Yeah, but
- 34:02Speaker 12: you might not have a four year old that wants
- 34:04Speaker 12: to see the parade.
- 34:05Speaker 4: And so we're a.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Seventy four year old older folks that don't want to
- 34:09Speaker 3: be out there.
- 34:10Speaker 12: Very true, and you know, we have a lot of
- 34:11Speaker 12: good streaming servant people who are streaming it. But at
- 34:13Speaker 12: the end of the day, safety comes first in all
- 34:16Speaker 12: of our events, in everything we do, and that's why
- 34:18Speaker 12: you know, we we institute in these large events. We
- 34:20Speaker 12: have a lot of planning means we also have safety
- 34:22Speaker 12: meetings in all of them. So and part of that
- 34:25Speaker 12: is weather and that's why we have you know, we
- 34:27Speaker 12: have the people we do and we're fortunate to be
- 34:30Speaker 12: able to pick up the phone and call our good
- 34:31Speaker 12: friend Brian Hughes and ask him what is going to
- 34:33Speaker 12: look like and what it's going to be and he
- 34:35Speaker 12: takes the time to help us out and the right
- 34:38Speaker 12: decision was made.
- 34:39Speaker 4: I mean, it's never easy.
- 34:40Speaker 12: The mayor doesn't like to have to make these decisions,
- 34:43Speaker 12: but it is an easy decision when the safety of
- 34:46Speaker 12: our residents and our visitors or is it's say that's
- 34:48Speaker 12: that's easy.
- 34:48Speaker 4: That's a no brainer.
- 34:49Speaker 3: And if you want to have some fun with Brian Hughes,
- 34:51Speaker 3: talk to him about blizzards.
- 34:54Speaker 12: That's also severe weather storms. I'll leave that alonecause I
- 34:58Speaker 12: don't want to. I don't want to conjure up anything.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Well, no, The thing about Brian is Brian I've been
- 35:02Speaker 3: great friends, you know, for a number of years. But
- 35:05Speaker 3: Brian gets you know, sometimes people want people want to
- 35:08Speaker 3: argue online with meteorologists, and I've never quite understood how
- 35:12Speaker 3: someone on social media. I'm not a meteorologist. I'm going
- 35:16Speaker 3: to leave that up to those guys and why I'm
- 35:17Speaker 3: going to argue. But there was there was an incident
- 35:20Speaker 3: where Brian got into a little back and forth with
- 35:23Speaker 3: somebody in social media about a blizzard. And you know,
- 35:26Speaker 3: a blizzard is not necessarily just snow. You can have
- 35:30Speaker 3: twenty inches of snow and it's not a blizzard. You
- 35:32Speaker 3: need to look up with the depth. And I like
- 35:33Speaker 3: to give Brian a hard time about it. I was
- 35:35Speaker 3: texting with him when he was on the other this morning.
- 35:37Speaker 3: So now the bride has been moved and it is
- 35:40Speaker 3: the night of the WVU Bowl game, And it was
- 35:43Speaker 3: kind of funny the way this whole thing happened yesterday
- 35:45Speaker 3: because your announcement. I was in the office here, came
- 35:47Speaker 3: down about two thirty or so, and then I was
- 35:50Speaker 3: sitting in I was helping out coop a little bit
- 35:52Speaker 3: with hotline yesterday and Aaron Parker from her news team
- 35:55Speaker 3: comes running down here and says, we know the WVU
- 35:57Speaker 3: Bowl and it just happened to be on the same
- 35:59Speaker 3: time on the same night. But I will say this,
- 36:03Speaker 3: wvu's Bowl game doesn't start till nine o'clock, plenty of time,
- 36:06Speaker 3: and you should for those that want to watch the
- 36:08Speaker 3: WVU Bowl game there, you should be on at least
- 36:12Speaker 3: on your way home by that point. And we're going
- 36:14Speaker 3: to have it on the radio, so you know, and
- 36:15Speaker 3: we're also going to broadcast the parade on the radio.
- 36:18Speaker 3: We're playing on do that. Chris Lawrence and Bobby Spry
- 36:21Speaker 3: will be doing that. So we're just transitioning everything to
- 36:23Speaker 3: December seventeenth. But if you're concerned about, you know, that
- 36:26Speaker 3: bowl game, you should be time home in time to
- 36:29Speaker 3: see the Mountaineers of Memphis and the and the Scooter
- 36:32Speaker 3: Coffee Ball in Frisco, Texas.
- 36:33Speaker 12: Yes, it was, I mean, there were you know when
- 36:35Speaker 12: we started to look like you look in the early
- 36:37Speaker 12: part of next week and the weather doesn't look great.
- 36:38Speaker 12: It looks warmer, but it looks like it's going to rain.
- 36:40Speaker 12: And then you know, okay, we'll push it into the
- 36:42Speaker 12: back part of the week. Well, we got to stay
- 36:43Speaker 12: high school football championships coming up, so we can't you know, can't,
- 36:46Speaker 12: can't step on top of that. And so then the
- 36:49Speaker 12: early part of the following week week look good and
- 36:52Speaker 12: you know, as with anything you could, you couldn't predict it.
- 36:55Speaker 12: Sometimes we say, you know, you can't make this stuff up.
- 36:57Speaker 12: Like as soon as we announced that, you're right, and
- 36:59Speaker 12: then I look on Metro News and there's the there's
- 37:01Speaker 12: the bold date.
- 37:01Speaker 4: But now I think the timing does work out.
- 37:03Speaker 12: Well, get your get your holiday joy and come out
- 37:05Speaker 12: and see Sannah and all the other parades. And the
- 37:08Speaker 12: other thing we do is is we really, we really desperately,
- 37:11Speaker 12: UH want our local kids and the bands and the
- 37:13Speaker 12: art groups to be able to perform. So we had
- 37:15Speaker 12: to work with you know, Capitol I and George Washington
- 37:18Speaker 12: High to to make sure that they didn't have performing
- 37:20Speaker 12: arts or something going on that day. And that's what
- 37:22Speaker 12: ended up a lot of the date ended up being
- 37:24Speaker 12: with them as well, because a big part of our
- 37:26Speaker 12: parade is our is our local our local students being
- 37:29Speaker 12: able to participate, and that's that was a big part
- 37:31Speaker 12: of the schedule as well. Somebody would have called us
- 37:34Speaker 12: from WU, we might have taken a different look, but
- 37:35Speaker 12: the timing worked out.
- 37:36Speaker 4: The time he worked out really well.
- 37:37Speaker 3: Butdavy Allen showing five any line bright too, part by
- 37:40Speaker 3: fresh Air Filters of Tay's Valley Fresh Air your trusted

- 37:45Speaker 3: zero four four four zero one one zero four visit
- 37:47Speaker 3: fresh Air Filters dot us because everyone deserves fresh air. Okay,
- 37:51Speaker 3: so you mentioned football. We all know what happened in
- 37:54Speaker 3: the court system with us going back and forth, you know,
- 37:56Speaker 3: starting with volleyball, with football and whatever the football championship.
- 38:00Speaker 3: We just moved everything ahead a week, right, and we're
- 38:03Speaker 3: good to go.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Everything's s got for now.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Super eight, I guess call it super eight. I don't
- 38:08Speaker 3: think no Elite eight is out. Eight is enough. I
- 38:11Speaker 3: don't know why I do.
- 38:12Speaker 12: It's just the state high school FOOTBA champions right, That's
- 38:14Speaker 12: what That's what we'll call it. That's another thing that
- 38:16Speaker 12: was always always interested. We talked about, you know, folks
- 38:20Speaker 12: being unhappy that somehow when the when it moved to Charleston,
- 38:24Speaker 12: that that lawsuit started, and obviously that didn't have anything
- 38:28Speaker 12: to do with us, But yeah, I know, we're super
- 38:29Speaker 12: excited for that, and I Tim Brady and his entire team,
- 38:32Speaker 12: I know the Mayor is going to be there for
- 38:34Speaker 12: for several of the games and.
- 38:35Speaker 4: It's really gonna be exciting.
- 38:36Speaker 12: Not only that, but we have cheerleading championships coming in
- 38:38Speaker 12: that same weekend, and it's going to be a tremendous
- 38:41Speaker 12: weekend in the city of Charleston, and we're very excited.
- 38:43Speaker 12: High school sports is is one of, if not our
- 38:46Speaker 12: top economic driver. When we think about the events we
- 38:48Speaker 12: have around the state high school basketball tournament's volleyball, now,
- 38:52Speaker 12: we have cheerleading, now we.
- 38:53Speaker 4: Have football, We've got track.
- 38:55Speaker 12: So so these are are huge economic drivers, but they're
- 38:57Speaker 12: also extremely great opportunities for our youth and our state,
- 39:00Speaker 12: and we're real excited about it. And I know that Tim
- 39:03Speaker 12: worked with Andy Shay over at the ballpark and hopefully
- 39:06Speaker 12: some kids from the football will get to go over
- 39:08Speaker 12: and see the light to night and have some fun
- 39:09Speaker 12: over there as well, so it we're excited about it.
- 39:12Speaker 4: And yeah, the games will go on and made the
- 39:16Speaker 4: best teams win all right.
- 39:17Speaker 3: Before we let you go. Tuesday night, the city had
- 39:20Speaker 3: what was I guess the last and a series of
- 39:22Speaker 3: public meetings about the proposed Capital Connector project. How was
- 39:25Speaker 3: that and what's your takeaway?
- 39:26Speaker 12: I have these three We've had three public meetings with
- 39:29Speaker 12: the Capitol Connector. And in my career, even before I
- 39:32Speaker 12: went to government, I did a lot of community outreach
- 39:34Speaker 12: and public meetings and things like that. I've never seen
- 39:36Speaker 12: as good a participation as we've had. And with this
- 39:38Speaker 12: Capital Connector meetings, we probably had fifty or sixty people there.
- 39:41Speaker 12: I think overall we've had over seven hundred comments. I
- 39:44Speaker 12: know James Jost with gi who's running this, has challenged
- 39:48Speaker 12: everybody to get us to a thousand, and it's been
- 39:51Speaker 12: a great experience, and I think people are really dedicated,
- 39:54Speaker 12: they really want to see what's best for the boulevard,
- 39:56Speaker 12: and we've gotten a lot of great ideas. And I
- 39:58Speaker 12: think one thing that, especially if you talk to folks
- 40:01Speaker 12: who were there and the residents who are participated, you
- 40:04Speaker 12: know a lot of times you go to these meetings
- 40:05Speaker 12: and people say, well, what do you want to see,
- 40:06Speaker 12: and then nobody listens to them. Well, we've listened, and
- 40:09Speaker 12: we've incorporated a lot of different things, including benches and
- 40:12Speaker 12: restroom stops, and where we're and where we're putting things,
- 40:15Speaker 12: and how we're designing the parks. We've really listened a
- 40:17Speaker 12: lot of the If you look from the thirty percent
- 40:19Speaker 12: designed and the sixty percent, a lot of the changes
- 40:21Speaker 12: have been because.
- 40:21Speaker 4: Of community feedback.
- 40:22Speaker 12: So you haven't still until right after the first of
- 40:25Speaker 12: the year January third.
- 40:26Speaker 4: You can go online.
- 40:27Speaker 12: You can you can find the link of the City
- 40:29Speaker 12: of Charles's website, you can find on Gai's website. There's
- 40:31Speaker 12: a Capital Connector website as well. If you just search
- 40:34Speaker 12: Capital Connector Charleston, West Virginia, you'll find that. And you
- 40:36Speaker 12: could still provide your feedback up until January third, and
- 40:39Speaker 12: please do because we can't think of everything. Because what
- 40:42Speaker 12: we want more than anything is the users of the
- 40:44Speaker 12: space to tell us what they want in the space.
- 40:46Speaker 3: And this is pretty much going to connect the west
- 40:48Speaker 3: side to the east side.
- 40:49Speaker 12: Yes, I mean, you know, if you think about what
- 40:51Speaker 12: happened on the West side over you know the Mayor
- 40:54Speaker 12: Jones and the administration did before they left taking it
- 40:58Speaker 12: up to Magic Island. We're going to pick up where
- 41:00Speaker 12: they left off at Magic Island and go all the
- 41:02Speaker 12: way down to the thirty fifth Street Bridge. And it
- 41:04Speaker 12: is one of, if not the This is the probably
- 41:08Speaker 12: the most successful project I've ever worked on, because it's
- 41:12Speaker 12: city government, state government, and federal government all working together
- 41:15Speaker 12: because it's city roads, it's state roads, and it's funded
- 41:17Speaker 12: by the Feds. And we also have the county involved
- 41:19Speaker 12: because they're right there and we have to deal with
- 41:22Speaker 12: some of their traffic and courthouse issues as well. So
- 41:25Speaker 12: all these folks are working together for this one tremendous project.
- 41:28Speaker 12: But we're going to go all the way from Magic
- 41:30Speaker 12: Island thirty fifth Street Bridge. You'll see a little cut
- 41:33Speaker 12: off on Greenbrier Street to create a much nicer entrance
- 41:36Speaker 12: way into our city and into the capital. But it's
- 41:39Speaker 12: very exciting, so please please go check it out. You
- 41:41Speaker 12: can again, you can find a Lincoln on the City
- 41:43Speaker 12: of Charleston's website. It is a very, very excited project.
- 41:47Speaker 12: And I would be remiss to say that, you know,
- 41:49Speaker 12: the mayor had this vision when we first started that
- 41:52Speaker 12: she wanted to make us some more or use our
- 41:53Speaker 12: riverfront more, and we've done the Regatta, we've done other events,
- 41:56Speaker 12: but we've not had anything that was sort of full time.
- 41:59Speaker 4: This is what we're going to be able to do and.
- 42:01Speaker 12: Really set a vision to this, but we couldn't have
- 42:03Speaker 12: done it without both Senator Joe Mansion and Senator Shelley
- 42:06Speaker 12: Moore Capital. They saw the vision the mayor had and
- 42:09Speaker 12: the members of the community had, and they helped us
- 42:11Speaker 12: find the funding for it. And truly will be appreciative
- 42:14Speaker 12: of them forever because you know when you're walking on
- 42:16Speaker 12: that in a couple of years, it's going to be
- 42:19Speaker 12: because they believed in what is sort of the next
- 42:21Speaker 12: phase of the city at Charleston, which is being much
- 42:24Speaker 12: more utilized in our riverfront and being a very community friendly,
- 42:29Speaker 12: high quality of life, and a great destination for people
- 42:31Speaker 12: to visit.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Matt Sutton, the chief of Staffordmery good one. I appreciate
- 42:34Speaker 3: you and taking time out of your schedule to be
- 42:36Speaker 3: and now we still have the Trans Siberian Orchestra. I
- 42:38Speaker 3: have showed night at the Coyle Steam and Convention Center
- 42:40Speaker 3: and I am going to be setting up at bar
- 42:43Speaker 3: one O one tonight because Steve Annimal from our sister
- 42:46Speaker 3: station to the Mountain. Steve is going to be at
- 42:47Speaker 3: the TSO Show. So I'm going to be down at
- 42:49Speaker 3: Bar one on one tonight from six to eight. So
- 42:51Speaker 3: if people wanted to get an opportunity stop buying, say
- 42:54Speaker 3: hello to me and get yourself a burger and cold
- 42:57Speaker 3: drink or soda whatever you want at Bar one on
- 42:58Speaker 3: one and I'll be there tonight.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Funny stuff to do, Madam, stuff to do.

- 45:57Speaker 3: even though the calendar says it's not one guy who's
- 45:59Speaker 3: always excited about it. As Joe Stevens for the West
- 46:02Speaker 3: Virginia Ski Areas Association, Joseph, good morning, welcome to the show.
- 46:07Speaker 13: Good morning, But December first, as I understand from your
- 46:10Speaker 13: good friend Brian Hughes, who the meteorological would start exactly
- 46:15Speaker 13: December first.
- 46:16Speaker 3: Exactly right and over there and over in that part
- 46:19Speaker 3: of the world. It is certainly a bunch of winners
- 46:22Speaker 3: rolled up into one, Joe.
- 46:24Speaker 13: It is today, for sure, but about it less than
- 46:27Speaker 13: an hour ago at nine o'clock both Canaye Valley. I
- 46:31Speaker 13: no excuse me, but Timberline and Snowshoe they opened up
- 46:35Speaker 13: for the season. As the saying goes, the ropes dropped,
- 46:39Speaker 13: and there's actually people out there. If you go into
- 46:41Speaker 13: the webcams right now, you will see people skiing and
- 46:44Speaker 13: snowboarding out there at the top of Snowshoe and the
- 46:49Speaker 13: top of Timberline. So it's a good time. We're basically
- 46:53Speaker 13: on schedule for opening this season, and boy do we
- 46:56Speaker 13: have an opening with all the natural snow that we've
- 46:58Speaker 13: gotten in the mountains, all the temperatures we got for snowmaking.
- 47:03Speaker 13: It's a really good opening. And we're opening with quality
- 47:06Speaker 13: and quantity instead of just opening to say we're open.
- 47:10Speaker 13: There's a big base and there's plenty of terrain open.
- 47:14Speaker 3: Nothing beats Mother Nature lenning to help at hand, right Joe.
- 47:18Speaker 13: Oh, Mother Nature. We filled up her tip jar extensively
- 47:25Speaker 13: in the last few days, without a doubt. The wind
- 47:28Speaker 13: chill's out there right now. I mean, my goodness, I'm
- 47:30Speaker 13: in my office in Nitro right now, and the wind
- 47:33Speaker 13: chill out there. So if you are going to go
- 47:35Speaker 13: out there and play, dress accordingly. Got some good news yesterday. Also,
- 47:40Speaker 13: we've got another ski resort opening up in Ohio County, Ogilby.
- 47:45Speaker 13: They have a little some trails, they do some nighte
- 47:48Speaker 13: skiing right there, and they will be opening tomorrow, coming
- 47:51Speaker 13: up on the fourteenth will be winter Place just ninety
- 47:54Speaker 13: minutes away from us here in Charleston, and then on
- 47:57Speaker 13: the twenty first, Canaine Valley, which is right side by
- 48:00Speaker 13: side with Timberline, they will be opening for the season.
- 48:03Speaker 13: So it's all on the way. We're having a good
- 48:05Speaker 13: time and we're letting gravity be our friend.
- 48:07Speaker 4: All right.
- 48:08Speaker 3: Before we let you go, I dud need to Askabpabs, can
- 48:10Speaker 3: you put your other hat on here for a moment?
- 48:12Speaker 3: With your role with the city of Nitro, I was
- 48:14Speaker 3: talking with the folks from South Charleston earlier. The Charleston
- 48:17Speaker 3: Christmas Parade, of course was postponed with the others the Dunbar, Nitro,
- 48:21Speaker 3: Saint Albans, and they're all still going on as scheduled
- 48:24Speaker 3: this weekend. And I know Nitro's got a lot of
- 48:26Speaker 3: big stuff going on. I'll give you a little time
- 48:28Speaker 3: to talk about it.
- 48:29Speaker 13: Well, you know, all kid, decide if you want to
- 48:32Speaker 13: see Santa this weekend, the Canal Valley Metro area is

- 48:40Speaker 13: is Dunbars Christmas Parade Saturday at twelve o'clocks South Charleston
- 48:45Speaker 13: and three o'clock Saint Albans at six o'clock will be

- 48:56Speaker 13: Christmas parade, but the Nitro Parade will kick off at
- 48:59Speaker 13: six o'clock. We've got about one hundred and fifty exhibits
- 49:03Speaker 13: our entrance into the parade and it's all about It's

- 50:05Speaker 3: Porter Wagner from the Pick of the Litter Animal Rescue
- 50:08Speaker 3: Group will be on the show tomorrow, as will our
- 50:10Speaker 3: good friend TJ. Meadows. That is all coming up on
- 50:12Speaker 3: tomorrow's show. Got a couple of texts to get to
- 50:14Speaker 3: Texas Dave. The Capitol folks knew there were high winds expected.
- 50:19Speaker 3: If they had invested a few dollars into proper tie
- 50:22Speaker 3: down straps instead of thousands of dollars on loud fireworks,
- 50:25Speaker 3: maybe we'd still have a tree standing scared every dog
- 50:29Speaker 3: on the East End. And speaking of safety, not smart
- 50:32Speaker 3: to launch fireworks in high winds. Here's your sign, says
- 50:36Speaker 3: a Texter. I think the fireworks last night at a
- 50:39Speaker 3: joyful night kind of caught some people by surprise, including
- 50:42Speaker 3: Governor Justice. If you heard the audio that we played
- 50:45Speaker 3: on the morning news this morning, I don't know that
- 50:47Speaker 3: he was expecting the fireworks. But again in case you're
- 50:49Speaker 3: joining us late, and we got a picture posted a
- 50:51Speaker 3: to WV metronews dot com and all of our social
- 50:54Speaker 3: media sites as well, including my own Dave Island Radio
- 50:57Speaker 3: and at Dave A seventy on X. Yeah, the Capital
- 51:00Speaker 3: Christmas tree. They put it up and it fell back
- 51:02Speaker 3: down a few hours later. But I'm sure, as I said,
- 51:05Speaker 3: I don't have a webcam on it. I'm sure they're
- 51:07Speaker 3: working on it now. They'll have it back up if
- 51:09Speaker 3: they don't already have it back up. But the fireworks
- 51:11Speaker 3: last night did take a few people by surprise. From
- 51:15Speaker 3: what I understand, Texas Dave Judicial Building should not be built. First.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Majority of taxpayers don't want this new court and it's
- 51:22Speaker 3: going to cost nine to ten million dollars to run.
- 51:25Speaker 3: Put them in a vacant building downtown. Government keeps growing
- 51:28Speaker 3: under this legislature. I don't know how much this legislature
- 51:31Speaker 3: had to do with this. Maybe they did, I don't know,
- 51:33Speaker 3: but I mean the building is crowded, the Building's the
- 51:35Speaker 3: buildings outdated? I mean, that's kind of my take on.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Tex says, I thought Republicans into the war on Christmas,
- 51:41Speaker 3: Why then are they incapable of protecting a Christmas tree
- 51:45Speaker 3: from the wind. This is Jesus telling the phony Christian
- 51:48Speaker 3: Republicans that they are hypocrites and do not follow God's teachings.
- 51:51Speaker 3: Repent or, better yet, pray for salvation from the One
- 51:55Speaker 3: True God. Spaghetti Monster says a textrier. If you're listening,
- 51:59Speaker 3: folks and heaven, I just read the texts. That's all
- 52:02Speaker 3: I did, all right. Thanks to all our guests on
- 52:05Speaker 3: the show today, the key Vaon from the South Charleston
- 52:09Speaker 3: Convention of Visit Bureau, Joe Stevens from the Westernrginion Skiers
- 52:12Speaker 3: Association also with the Nitro CVB, and the new County
- 52:16Speaker 3: County Manager here in Kanawha County, Jeremy Young, and also
- 52:19Speaker 3: the chief of Staffer Mayor good one Matt Sutton for
- 52:21Speaker 3: being here on the show today as well. Oh by
- 52:24Speaker 3: the way, Tex says, tree is still down, no one
- 52:26Speaker 3: working on it, just drove by. Okay, there we go,
- 52:28Speaker 3: all right. Matt Murphy is my producer. Thank you so much, Hope, Kirch.
- 52:31Speaker 3: We'll coming up at ten oh six Metro News talk Line.
