- 1:02We will be. Off Monday to Friday next week.
- 1:04All right, let's. Just get into the.
- 1:06Stories for today so the first story that I have for you guys
- 1:10today is Patrick Taw has. Finally or officially addressed
- 1:14the transition blush controversy.
- 1:17So. Celebrity makeup artist Patrick
- 1:19Taw has issued a public apology. Following backlash surrounding
- 1:23the launch of his new transition, Blush.
- 1:24Products after lots. Of people accused him of failing
- 1:28to properly. Acknowledge the artist who
- 1:30helped popularize. The technique Recently the
- 1:33controversy began in May when Patrick Todd Beauty announced
- 1:36its transition Blush collection and the products.
- 1:39Were marketed as a way to create this like.
- 1:42Seamless gradient between under eye concealer and blush.
- 1:46That technique has been very popularized.
- 1:49By. A black makeup artist painted by
- 1:51Esther and. Over the past year or so,
- 1:54Patrick. Todd has been in Esther's
- 1:56comments section hyping her up and making.
- 1:58It very clear. That he knows.
- 2:00That she. Was the one who has.
- 2:03Basically. Brought it into the modern
- 2:05zeitgeist. This is not a new technique.
- 2:07She did not create this technique and she is not
- 2:09claiming to have created this technique.
- 2:11But it. Is a technique that she very
- 2:12much. Popularized recently.
- 2:14At least in Western beauty. So when he launched the
- 2:17collection, there was no mention of Esther, there was no
- 2:19collaboration with her, nothing. And people were mostly mad that
- 2:24he trademarked Transition. Blush like he trademarked that
- 2:28phrase because that obviously impacts others.
- 2:31In the industry being able to use it.
- 2:33So after weeks of backlash. He has now released a statement
- 2:37on Instagram on the same day that he went on Emma Greed's.
- 2:40Podcast to talk about this so this.
- 2:43Is what his statement said. Recently, the launch of
- 2:45Transition Blush contributed. To a larger issue.
- 2:47Than I first understood and I want to take a moment to take
- 2:49accountability. My intention was to create a
- 2:51product that made a makeup technique.
- 2:53I love more accessible it was. Never my intention to claim
- 2:56ownership over a blush technique or a way of applying makeup.
- 2:59As an artist and creator myself, I now understand why Esther and
- 3:03others saw it through a different lens.
- 3:05I'm genuinely sorry for the hurt and frustration.
- 3:07Caused. That was never my intention, but
- 3:10I have learned that impact matters more than intent.
- 3:12I understand that the reaction wasn't just.
- 3:14About the product itself, it was.
- 3:16About something much bigger. Recognition, visibility, and the
- 3:19experiences many creators. Especially black creators have
- 3:22had. When their contributions to
- 3:24culture are overlooked or not recognized.
- 3:26Black creators have. Had an enormous influence on
- 3:28beauty, culture, trends and artistry.
- 3:30And that influence often goes unattributed and unrewarded.
- 3:34OK, so then like I said, he went on Emigre's podcast and I think
- 3:39it was interesting because. You could tell.
- 3:42That there was this moment when. He was about.
- 3:46To almost like turn himself into the victim and really center
- 3:50himself in this scandal. There was a moment where he
- 3:53almost started crying and it honestly gave Amanda Pitula if
- 3:56you. Guys are.
- 3:57Watching Summer House and have been following that entire like
- 4:00Scamanda scandal, it kind of gave that.
- 4:02Where he was. About to turn it on himself and
- 4:05be like this has been, this launch has been so hard for me.
- 4:08The situation has been so hard for me and then Emma.
- 4:11Greed actually did a pretty good job I would say of like.
- 4:14Pivoting in the moment and kind of calling him out so that.
- 4:16He actually had to address. It head on it's when I this
- 4:27launch has been like a very like difficult like this launch has
- 4:30been a very hard launch for me like I created this like with
- 4:34like with like such heart and. It feels to me, Patrick, like
- 4:39you kind of understand that launching this particular
- 4:43product without a mention of her influence of the technique kind
- 4:48of felt like an erasure of her influence.
- 4:52And again, I think she's been very vocal.
- 4:54She didn't create the technique. She's somebody that's more
- 4:56recently popularized the technique.
- 4:58But the fact that you guys went out with it in the way that you
- 5:01did feels like she should have somehow come up and been
- 5:05credited and she wasn't. And because it's so frequently
- 5:09happens specifically with black female creators and artists, it
- 5:14has it's escalated into something that is
- 5:18disproportionate to what you would have perhaps hoped for,
- 5:22considering that you went out to her.
- 5:23But it feels to me like there's some sense of remorse or some
- 5:26sense of understanding. Or am I misunderstanding?
- 5:28Yeah, I'm really sorry for like, I, I, I am generally sorry for
- 5:32like the hurt and the frustration that I have caused
- 5:35and that for anyone who has ever felt like, overlooked or not
- 5:39recognized on like their contributions, like, that was
- 5:42never my intent. My intent was only to create a
- 5:46product to allow people to make this technique like more more
- 5:50accessible at home. I know there's a.
- 5:52Lot of people that are feeling like Emma brought him on in this
- 5:55moment and was intentionally a little bit harder on him
- 5:59because. She faces a.
- 6:02Lot of criticism for who she. Surrounds herself with.
- 6:04How she operates in this space? Especially after her book tour
- 6:08book. Launch and I did.
- 6:09A full recap of her book and why I felt like people were
- 6:12actually. Like misrepresenting what she is
- 6:14was saying on this tour and what she was saying in the book.
- 6:16So go listen to that episode if you guys want it was.
- 6:18Like a dedicated. Mini school episode out on a
- 6:21Friday maybe like a month or two ago.
- 6:23I. Thought it was decent.
- 6:24I actually think Emma's like a decent.
- 6:25Interviewer I do listen to. Her podcast here and there and
- 6:28I'm always pretty impressed. By how she's able to Segway
- 6:32quite nicely. Pivot the conversation into
- 6:36areas that are actually interesting for the audience,
- 6:38like. I actually think she's pretty
- 6:40good at that, but anyways. I actually AM.
- 6:43Surprised that Patrick has addressed.
- 6:45This only because it's been going on for so many weeks that
- 6:49I kind of thought maybe he wouldn't.
- 6:51I kind of thought maybe he would just.
- 6:53You know, let. This launch flop a little bit, I
- 6:55mean, I'm sure. It's still successful.
- 6:57From a commercial standpoint, but from like a reputational
- 6:59standpoint, I kind of thought he would just like.
- 7:01Let this. Pass and hope that he could move
- 7:04forward. But maybe.
- 7:06It just got too big, like maybe. The sales aren't there.
- 7:08Like I'm not sure what prompted him to do.
- 7:10This. But yeah, I am actually quite
- 7:13surprised that he did. This, and I mean I think.
- 7:15It's pretty obvious that the. Public pressure must have been
- 7:17so intense that he felt like he. Needed to apologize.
- 7:20All right, the next story. That I have for you guys today
- 7:22is Coach. Has unveiled a new Gen.
- 7:25Z. Focus series called.
- 7:27And Coach which they are saying is an always on content series
- 7:31bringing. Together, celebrities, creators.
- 7:34And young consumers for this community driven storytelling
- 7:38initiative. So rather than.
- 7:39Relying on traditional advertising campaigns.
- 7:43This. Series is designed to evolve
- 7:45through participation, with contributors sharing personal
- 7:49experiences, perspectives, and moments of self-expression.
- 7:53And I know all of that sounds like.
- 7:55Word salad. But the reason why I wanted to
- 7:57talk. About this is because.
- 7:59First of all, I think it is interesting when a brand
- 8:02launches something new like. This like this I believe.
- 8:05Will continue to expand right now as far as I can tell.
- 8:08It is. Like mini interviews, they have
- 8:11these fun little. Polaroid Pictures.
- 8:14Of the different celebrities and personalities.
- 8:16That they've interviewed. For this series and then, you
- 8:18know, you swipe across and it's like a mini interview and
- 8:20they're like. Holding a coach bag or whatever.
- 8:22It seems very like bare bones right now, but I.
- 8:24Believe it. Will continue to evolve because
- 8:27it is like an always on kind of arm of their brand now I guess.
- 8:31And so I think it's interesting this is like apparently by Gen.
- 8:34Z, you know for Gen. Z.
- 8:36So they contracted mostly like Gen.
- 8:37Z creatives on the project and I guess instead of signing like 1
- 8:42ambassador for. The.
- 8:44Year or relying, like I said on kind of more traditional
- 8:47advertising campaigns and avenues they're hoping that and
- 8:51coach will end up being maybe like their primary way of
- 8:54tapping into youth culture and you know being able to use
- 8:57different personalities at different.
- 8:59Moments for this like. Storytelling initiative.
- 9:01So I think it has a lot of potential, the initial.
- 9:04Features are Charlie XCX. Will they include?
- 9:07There's quite a few. Actually, but they include.
- 9:08Charlie XCX, which is really cool.
- 9:10Malala pink panthras like they. Have some?
- 9:13Really. Cool and like.
- 9:14Zeitgeist E Celebrities so coach over the past several years.
- 9:18Has essentially made Gen. Z1 of the centers of its
- 9:21marketing efforts. And they have, really.
- 9:24Shifted towards what they call expressive luxury.
- 9:27Which is focusing on authenticity, identity and
- 9:29community. Now all of this.
- 9:31OK, very cool. Like I said, I think we will
- 9:33start to see more from. This initiative moving.
- 9:36Forward beyond just kind of like the initial launch.
- 9:38Stuff however. One of the things I did want to
- 9:42point out. One of the craziest things is.
- 9:45They opened an Instagram account for and.
- 9:48Coach, I don't. Know when they opened the
- 9:50account, but they opened one OK and then two days ago.
- 9:52They did their first post. It is a.
- 9:54Collaboration post with Coach's main Instagram.
- 9:57And it is. Charlie XCX OK, so.
- 10:00By all accounts, they have coach's Instagram following to.
- 10:03Bolster it they have Charlie. XCX in the creative.
- 10:07It was posted 2 days ago. And the account has 719.
- 10:13Followers what I hope that. They are not looking at
- 10:18Instagram followers like I hope. That the creative.
- 10:20Team or the strategy team behind this is not being measured on
- 10:24Instagram followers or like follower count in general.
- 10:27Follower growth on this account. I know it's 2 days.
- 10:30In but that honestly shocked me when I clicked into it.
- 10:34Anyways, if anything really cool comes from this, I will let you.
- 10:36Guys know. I think it has a lot of
- 10:38potential to be like its own really cool like dedicated
- 10:42platform almost of all of this content that they've.
- 10:44Created through this. Like almost.
- 10:46It's almost like reminds me of like an agency or something I
- 10:49think. It could be really cool, but
- 10:50we'll just see. Anyways, and the last story.
- 10:53That I have for you guys today is I have.
- 10:54An update on Tiffany, my girl. The creator who warned her
- 10:58colleague that her colleague was about to be fired?
- 11:02OK. When I first.
- 11:03Posted this story. Some of you.
- 11:05Guys were like. Lauren how?
- 11:08Could you? Be on Tiffany.
- 11:09'S side. And I do want to clarify, I
- 11:11wasn't like necessarily on her. Side like when I was watching
- 11:15her videos I was like Oh my God she is.
- 11:17Making the biggest mistake of all time, what I meant by.
- 11:20That is like, I just like, I just believe her, like I don't.
- 11:25Do you know when you come across somebody and you have no reason
- 11:28to necessarily? Believe this, but you just like
- 11:30feel their warmth. You feel that they are like.
- 11:35Authentically true to themselves.
- 11:38They meant well, you know, like. That is how I felt about.
- 11:42Tiffany like watching all of her content like I.
- 11:44Believed that she thought she was.
- 11:45Doing the right thing. Like I believed she was trying
- 11:47to like, stick it to the man and.
- 11:49I don't know, I just loved her. OK, so.
- 11:51That's what I meant by that. That's how I feel about Tiffany.
- 11:54So for a quick. Recap In late May, a creator
- 11:57named Tiffany went viral for sharing a story time about how.
- 12:00She warned A colleague that she was about to.
- 12:02Get let go from her company or from their company.
- 12:05So Tiffany posted this first story.
- 12:08Time, which was on the day. That the girl.
- 12:10Was meant to. Be fired.
- 12:12Tiffany was still employed by this company.
- 12:14OK, so keep in mind this was all happening in real time from
- 12:17that. Very first video people were
- 12:18like girl is your job safe like. What is going on?
- 12:21Why are you posting this to the Internet and then she posted an
- 12:24update? After the.
- 12:25Firing had been done A. Few hours later.
- 12:28Telling Tiktok. That this girl.
- 12:30Told Tiffany that she recorded the meeting where she had.
- 12:33Been let go because obviously she had noticed.
- 12:35That this was going to happening because Tiffany told her and
- 12:37that she will be taking legal action against the company.
- 12:41So again, people were like. Why are you telling this girl's
- 12:45business? To TikTok in these like these
- 12:48are viral videos like this became a viral series.
- 12:51At that point, so this is. Putting that girl at risk.
- 12:54If the company sees that, she's considering taking legal action
- 12:57against them. You know, like there were.
- 12:59So many. Issues with this?
- 13:00And there. Were lots of people.
- 13:02To me, but also in her comment section being like if I had to
- 13:07let an employee go. For whatever reason.
- 13:09And there was somebody like interfering with that and then
- 13:12also taking that to TikTok. Like could you imagine the
- 13:15amount of? Jobs that she has now put.
- 13:17In jeopardy, which is honestly valid, OK.
- 13:18So. Today, Tiffany has returned to
- 13:22give us an update and has let us all know the inevitable.
- 13:26Which is that? She has now.
- 13:28Also been fired because of this viral series.
- 13:31I got fired, y'all, I got fired. They finally found the video
- 13:35that video they found the video, so I went to go like look at my
- 13:40slack messages or my e-mail or something to see to follow up
- 13:43with a user and I couldn't get in my e-mail wasn't working.
- 13:49My password wasn't working and I immediately thought, OK, I'm
- 13:55being off boarded. I got a call from the guy who
- 13:58cuts my checks and he was like, hey Tiffany.
- 14:03So I'm just going to get straight to the point.
- 14:05I got a call from the company and I'm pretty sure you already
- 14:11know what this is about. They do not want you to come
- 14:14back to the site. And I said, is this about the
- 14:17TikTok videos? And he said, yes, this is 100%
- 14:21about the TikTok videos. So I'm thinking in my mind, I
- 14:28wonder who found out? Like, who was it that actually
- 14:32encountered the video? Was it my boss?
- 14:34I'm interested to see how all of that went down behind the
- 14:37scenes. Like, I want to know if you're
- 14:39out there and you're watching this video and you work at the
- 14:41company, please let me know how it went down behind the scenes
- 14:44because we got to know the people want to know, OK?
- 14:47The comments are. Literally like.
- 14:49Did you learn to mind your business, girl?
- 14:52Like. We knew you were fired before
- 14:54you knew. Before they even saw the video.
- 14:57We knew you were fired. She seems to be taking it well,
- 15:00she also said in one of her first videos.
- 15:02That this was. Like a contract and her contract
- 15:03was going to come to an end and people were like, OK.
- 15:05But don't you want like a? Reference like what if you want
- 15:08a contract renewal like I'm so. Confused.
- 15:11You know this is very short. Sighted of you.
- 15:13I don't know if Tiffany just thinks now she can like be a
- 15:16full time creator or something like.
- 15:17That I've seen a lot more discourse lately about how.
- 15:21It's becoming increasingly risky.
- 15:24For people to try. And have like.
- 15:27A regular like. I don't know if it's like a.
- 15:29Corporate job or like any type of like.
- 15:30Regular job. And do social media on the side,
- 15:34I think initially in the early. Days, that was.
- 15:38Tricky like. I think there.
- 15:39Were a lot of clauses in different contracts and things
- 15:41like that where people couldn't do that?
- 15:43But this is like pre pre TikTok this like years.
- 15:46Ago and then I think there was this kind of like in between.
- 15:48Phase. At least this is what.
- 15:49I've seen in media where you couldn't really.
- 15:52Tell people to. Like not have a side.
- 15:55Hustle. Right.
- 15:56And it kind of became this Gray area where it's like, as long as
- 15:59it's not impacting your day. To day work like that's.
- 16:02Fine and I. Actually feel like.
- 16:04The pendulum is swinging back again where more and more
- 16:07companies are getting stricter on this.
- 16:10I mean Tiffany's situation. Is unique.
- 16:11Because she made many, many mistakes.
- 16:14But in general, I feel like more and more companies and employers
- 16:17are becoming stricter on this. Because I actually.
- 16:20Think TikTok has completely changed the way that employees
- 16:24like show up online. It's no longer just like, oh,
- 16:26it's drunk photos from my weekend out with my friends on.
- 16:29Facebook right? Like.
- 16:31Now people are vlogging at their jobs.
- 16:33They're talking about like intimate.
- 16:35Details. Or like confidential.
- 16:36Details about the people that they work with their.
- 16:39Company. Policies like.
- 16:41All of that kind of stuff or like when we talked.
- 16:43About the Jezebel stuff, was that earlier this week or was
- 16:46that last week I. Can't remember but.
- 16:48You know. Even if she's not like speaking.
- 16:49About her work. You know she's talking about her
- 16:52dating life and you know, maybe getting in like feuds.
- 16:54With other creators. And things like that where I can
- 16:57understand that in certain professions like.
- 16:59It puts the IT feels like it puts the employer at risk, at
- 17:03reputational risk if people. Find out where these.
- 17:06People work, so. Yeah.
- 17:07We're at a. Very interesting time, I would
- 17:10say in the workforce and like navigating like personal brand,
- 17:13personal social media. Anyways guys, that's it for mini
- 17:15scroll today. A bit of a random short.
- 17:17One for you guys, but. I will be back tomorrow for a
- 17:20Friday mini scroll thank you so much for listening I love you
- 17:23guys and I will talk to you tomorrow bye.
