- 0:00It might be the largest group of the most welcoming people you'll
- 0:03ever run across. This week on that car show, we
- 0:06are just back from Monterey and we are bursting with car week
- 0:11tails. Each year somehow manages to top
- 0:13the one before and we want to unpack it all with you here
- 0:17today. It's just me and Lindsay this
- 0:19week and this is an audio only episode.
- 0:22It's a fun one though. It's a Car Week Chronicles and
- 0:25it's that car show. Hey, it's that car show.
- 0:32It's Lindsay, Josh and me, Ryan Barkey today and well damn it,
- 0:37it's the annual post car week come down episode.
- 0:40It happens every year. You know, we we all have this
- 0:44best week ever in Monterey and Carmel.
- 0:46We're living it up like doctors brushing our teeth of champagne
- 0:49and caviar. And you know, then we have the
- 0:52world's biggest door hit us in our collective ass on the way
- 0:55out. So holy shit, another incredible
- 0:57car week wasn't. It Oh my gosh, I mean, and it's,
- 1:01I think the contrast was even stronger this year.
- 1:05Like I ended up coming back like leaving midday on Sunday.
- 1:09So I got home Sunday night, which is usually I get home on
- 1:11Monday and I woke up Monday morning and just went was it all
- 1:15a dream? Like it just, it's just amazing.
- 1:20It's just such a different world, and it's so magical.
- 1:24And then you're just boom, you're back in your real life.
- 1:27And it's like, did that even happen?
- 1:29Like, I felt like I spun around and the whole thing was just,
- 1:32you know, this amazing Daydream. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's, it's
- 1:37always amazing, right? You know, it's as soon as you
- 1:40sort of, I don't know, turn around, you run into someone
- 1:43else, you know, or you see something else amazing.
- 1:45I mean, right. The first time is always the
- 1:46best time. And this was my third.
- 1:48You've done it, you know, your whole life.
- 1:50But, you know, that's just, it's hard to wrap your head around it
- 1:52that first time. And, and at this point, I almost
- 1:55want to bring someone new, right?
- 1:57And, and share it with them, right?
- 1:59And, and, and bring them into the into the fold.
- 2:01And I posted something to LinkedIn.
- 2:03I don't usually post, you know, I don't know, poetic
- 2:08dedications. Yeah.
- 2:09Yeah. But I, you know, it's just,
- 2:12again, this sort of same thought that you spend this amazing week
- 2:15where everything is amazing, everything tastes great,
- 2:17everything sounds great, everything looks great.
- 2:19You know, all your friends are there, you know, Then you come
- 2:21down and it's, it's like a melancholia or something, you
- 2:24know, it's, it's, it's. Just a.
- 2:26Very, very different thing. So I, I know a lot of people
- 2:29listening were there, you know, we had a ton of of friends of
- 2:33the show there. Of course didn't get to see
- 2:34everyone. Of course it's like that every
- 2:36year. But I thought we'd just run
- 2:39through the, you know, run through the week as as as seen
- 2:42through our eyes. Maybe starting with with
- 2:44Wednesday. I think I got there a little
- 2:46earlier than you did. You did.
- 2:48And I'm, I am really looking forward to hearing about your
- 2:51week because I think this really exemplifies car week too.
- 2:55Like, you got there Wednesday, I got in late Thursday, and we saw
- 2:59each other for about 25 seconds on Sunday morning at Pebble,
- 3:02which I'm so glad. I didn't think we were going to
- 3:04get to see each other in person at all, which is insanity.
- 3:07But that's also Car Week. It's so true.
- 3:10Well, of course I was late. You got there for dawn Patrol.
- 3:13I got to see your pops again, which was awesome.
- 3:14Love him. He's great.
- 3:16He's awesome. He's an.
- 3:17Amazing. I think we make good wing people
- 3:20for each other at car events. Yeah, yeah, I I yeah, I could
- 3:25have used a good wing person, but after the quail, my wing
- 3:28guy, Colin, poor guy, threw out his back.
- 3:30And so he was basically hanging out at our shared house the rest
- 3:34of the week, which was unfortunate, but we drove down
- 3:37Colin. No, no, it's it's Yeah, it's
- 3:41yeah, I really, you know, especially when you've bought
- 3:43tickets and this. Kind of.
- 3:44Yeah. Well.
- 3:45We flew into SFO. Now, yeah.
- 3:48I just pinged them so hopefully make it a live update.
- 3:51Turning. This show.
- 3:53But yeah, you know, part of what's changed for me is the
- 3:56last couple of years I'd flown directly into Monterey.
- 3:57And I know you drive because you're a Californian, but.
- 4:01Well, and I've done both. Like if I'm coming from Seattle,
- 4:03I've flown in, right? Sure, sure.
- 4:05You know, delightful. But I like, I love doing the
- 4:09road trip up from Southern California because it feels like
- 4:12it's such a part of the journey and you end up seeing cars on
- 4:17the way there. Like, do you know you're going
- 4:19to the same place as people that you're on the road with?
- 4:23And this year was definitely the year of the Urus.
- 4:25We saw at least five of them on the road trip up.
- 4:30One of them this gorgeous purple 1.
- 4:32And I if the license plate was a funny play on purple was at it
- 4:37was stopped in Paso Robles when we stopped and the owner
- 4:40happened to be out there and my daughter got to sit in it, which
- 4:43was fun. Oh, nice.
- 4:44And same place we got to see there was a Renault 5 Turbo, one
- 4:49of those little special race cars.
- 4:50Yes, that was, yes, one of the first cool cars I saw in the
- 4:53road coming down from San Francisco.
- 4:55And it's like, yeah, you know, you've arrived. 100% And then
- 4:58there was one parked on the street in Carmel.
- 5:00But the one that I saw in Paso was on the back of a Citrin
- 5:04flatbed truck being towed up to Monterey.
- 5:08And we pulled in to get gas. And this thing was right ahead
- 5:11of us. And I went, you know, you're on
- 5:13the way to car week when this is what's at the gas station.
- 5:16And then I talked to them briefly and the driver, it was a
- 5:20friend of the owner that was in it when I was right there.
- 5:23And he said, yeah, but it's got an LS swap in it, which was even
- 5:27funnier. But then that that combo was on
- 5:31display at the Avance event. So I'll, I'll find out more
- 5:33about it. But it was just like, what an
- 5:35amazing spot it was. I was like, we're getting close.
- 5:40Totally, totally. Well, we were in a fake Urus.
- 5:43We were in an Audi Q8, which is, I know, built on the same
- 5:46platform, but this was not the SQ8I was a little disappointed
- 5:51in it. You know, it's got the, it's,
- 5:52it's got the small engine, big car.
- 5:53So you press the, you know, press the gas and you wait a
- 5:56couple seconds and you've got the power.
- 5:58But, but, but a great car just to be, you know, shoveled around
- 6:01in or shuttle around others in for car week.
- 6:03And, and I had never done that that trip in San Francisco and
- 6:06along Hwy. 1 and we stopped at Sam's chowder house along the
- 6:10way had lobster rolls. It was a lot of fun.
- 6:11Kind of set the set the tone and we got the stuff by Bruce
- 6:15Canopa's place for the first time.
- 6:17I don't know if you've been to Canada.
- 6:19Every year it's on my list and every year I do not have time,
- 6:22so tell me all about it, I really would love.
- 6:24It, yeah, it was, I don't know what I was expecting.
- 6:26I guess I thought it was going to be, you know, 5895 nines or
- 6:30whatever, just stacked. But it wasn't quite like that.
- 6:32But it was still pretty great. You know, they have a workshop
- 6:35area and then they have a kind of a lower level with cars for
- 6:38sale and then they have a museum upstairs and a lot of race cars.
- 6:42They're iconic. I don't always know why they are
- 6:44like the Providence or whatever exactly, but stuff, you know,
- 6:48again, we've talked about this before cars they turned into Hot
- 6:50Wheels and stuff and and then the cars for sale, there was a
- 6:53BMW 1M, there were a couple 95 nines, you know, some CGTS that
- 6:57that they redo. There's a dark green 1A car I
- 7:01think I'd seen at Laguna last year at Laguna Seca.
- 7:04Like maybe I saw that one. I don't know if they brought it
- 7:06down but I think I saw a dark green one at the track maybe and
- 7:10the color. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:12OK. Maybe it's the same one.
- 7:13Yeah. It was cool.
- 7:14You know, my whole life I've heard of, you know, Canopy, you
- 7:16should stop by. And it was great, you know, but
- 7:18kind of a an amuse bouche, right to the rest, a little teaser.
- 7:23Yeah, like, like in and of itself, like in a vacuum, that
- 7:27would have been an amazing day. But it was it was merely a stop
- 7:31on the way to, you know, the the big show, right.
- 7:34But it was fun. It was such a pretty drive.
- 7:36It's not quite like coming up from the South with with the Big
- 7:38Sur and all that, but it's still beautiful though, like.
- 7:42You can't, you can't go wrong anywhere in that area on the
- 7:45coast like the drives are. So, you know, the, the, the
- 7:48vistas, if I will, you know, you'll allow me to be a little
- 7:52melodramatic. Yeah.
- 7:53They're just so pretty and striking and different.
- 7:56And it really, I think it sets the tone and you know you're
- 8:00headed towards something special.
- 8:02Yeah, exactly. And for a lot of people in our
- 8:05circles, their week started off with Motor Lux, the Kennedy
- 8:08event. I did not attend this year.
- 8:12I still love you Haggerty, but next year I will get my
- 8:14application in on time and hopefully get credentials again.
- 8:18But I just. Yeah, I and we were, it actually
- 8:20worked out really well. We were exhausted.
- 8:22That would have been a lot that first night and it has been for
- 8:24me if you fly in that afternoon or whatever, but I heard it was
- 8:28wonderful for. Sure.
- 8:29Yeah, Yeah, a little different this year because the auctions I
- 8:33think were all off site as opposed to years past, right,
- 8:35the broader auctions. Yeah, they've had them sort of
- 8:38in conjunction and you could go between the Motor Lux event and
- 8:41the auction because it was going on at the same time.
- 8:43Right, right. Yeah.
- 8:44But no, I heard it was great. And next year I look forward to
- 8:47to going. But it was nice to just sort of
- 8:49ease in and, you know, I stayed, I learned my lesson last couple
- 8:53years. I've stayed in wildly overpriced
- 8:562 star as being generous. But these older motel properties
- 8:59in Carmel. So you're right downtown, right?
- 9:01But it's lovely. But there's not air
- 9:02conditioning, you know, little they're older.
- 9:04They're, you know, 80 years old and, and, and you're for better
- 9:07or worse, you're right in the middle of everything so late
- 9:09into the night, your cars and this kind of thing.
- 9:11And it this year we were out on Carmel Valley Road and a bunch
- 9:14of us from Denver and Chicago and other places as Far East as
- 9:18New York. Shout out to Colin Handler who
- 9:21drove his AMG all the way from upstate New York.
- 9:23Something like 3100 miles to the house on on Carmel Valley Rd.
- 9:29Fun group of people. Do you know Valentina?
- 9:33What's her last name? Valentina Josh Valentina
- 9:39Trentini is her name. I knew it was something very
- 9:41Italian. She's Italian and she does this
- 9:43business called yeah, bruschetta, which is I think
- 9:46very clever, like bruschetta, but like brush.
- 9:49And she does a lot of the like pinstriping, the, the gumballs,
- 9:53the numbers, the, you know, the, the Pegasus pegasi, the, you
- 9:58know, that kind of thing. And she's really well known.
- 10:00She's got a huge following on, on an Instagram.
- 10:03She was at the house Mike Burrows and Derek Shrek from
- 10:06Fuel Fed. You know, God, it was just, it
- 10:09was a bunch of a bunch of neat guys.
- 10:11Nick an old Fuel Fed a friend from Chicago so a little
- 10:15different this year being outside of of the middle of
- 10:17things, but man we slept well yeah, things considered poor
- 10:21Colin and I were the two biggest guys there Collins bigger and
- 10:24taller than I am and we basically shared a tree house
- 10:27that had been turned into an Edu like a couple of Keebler elves.
- 10:32You know we're. Going to go back to our retreat
- 10:35to our tree house for the evening.
- 10:36Basically, but it was kind of brilliant because we slept so
- 10:39well, but we had to go into the house to use the bathroom.
- 10:42First night someone locked the front door so it.
- 10:45Was a bit rustic. More rustic than.
- 10:48The wood pile I I went and bare feet and no glasses.
- 10:52But it was, fingers crossed it. Was fun.
- 10:55Yeah, it was. It was fun.
- 10:56Usually. Stay.
- 10:58Where'd you stay this year? In Carmel, like right, right in
- 11:02Carmel. Same places before.
- 11:03Yeah, which worked out really well because my I drove up
- 11:07Thursday and started my time kind of on the ground there with
- 11:12the reveal of the Range Rover, one of one that they do every
- 11:15year. And that was really close to
- 11:18where I stayed. So it was amazing because I got
- 11:21there and then I was able to walk to where I needed to be,
- 11:23which is I was like, this is the genius move.
- 11:26It's like don't have to move your car, you don't have to deal
- 11:27with parking. And it was a great way to sort
- 11:30of like, you know, get the lay of the land and see a little bit
- 11:34of Carmel like right away when I got there because that's, you
- 11:38know, Ocean Ave. is where a lot of the really special cars are.
- 11:42They had some rally cars kind of parked along like fuel the fuel
- 11:46run and like Gold Rush and a bunch of different ones had cars
- 11:49parked on like a red carpet along, you know, Ocean Ave.
- 11:52And that's kind of the heart of the action in Carmel.
- 11:58So it's it was nice. Yeah.
- 12:00And it's I think. Did you go to the tour?
- 12:03No, because I was on the road up when it was happening
- 12:07unfortunately. Got it.
- 12:08I only. Recommend going to the tour.
- 12:10Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've done it in the past.
- 12:12This year, it was, you know, drizzly, for better or worse.
- 12:16I think it was atmospheric, right?
- 12:18But I, I opted to to sleep in and.
- 12:21And I, you know, I missed that first day on Wednesday, too.
- 12:24You know, something I missed was the singer Louis Vuitton collab
- 12:28reveal, which has gotten a lot of press.
- 12:31Yes. What are your thoughts We didn't
- 12:34get a chance to talk about? Well, you know, it's a thing,
- 12:36right? It's not going to be every
- 12:37singer moving forward. And it is sort of a showpiece,
- 12:40you know, of everything that they can do.
- 12:43Obviously, you know, the the Louis Vuitton collaboration is
- 12:46super cool. Yeah, I, I really would love to
- 12:49have gone, just didn't get into town, you know, quite in time.
- 12:51But thank you. Thank you, Thank you.
- 12:53Maurice Merrick, our buddy from Horsepower Heritage, who we'll
- 12:56get to later, basically was the Rover Room reporter at the Quail
- 12:59and did these fireside chats. It was very cool to see him on a
- 13:02giant screen. And also Deb Pollock, singer,
- 13:05who who really hooked up this Car Week D Lister with the
- 13:09swaggiest of swag bags from the event.
- 13:11I think I shared this with you. So cool.
- 13:15They gave. I brought that bag home, took it
- 13:17out of my my, my suitcase and my 13 1/2 year old daughter.
- 13:22Like Louis Vuitton. It's like you should.
- 13:26You shouldn't know what that is, right?
- 13:28Either I've failed or I'm parenting perfectly that she
- 13:31recognizes. That I think she just wants the
- 13:34bag, right, to like, you know, bring something into, you know,
- 13:37school. And they were giving out the
- 13:39most amazing, I guess, I guess you'd call it a, I don't know
- 13:44what the term is, but an enameled engine badge.
- 13:48Basically. There's, there's a term.
- 13:50Wow. Yeah.
- 13:51But but, you know, commemorating the, the collab and super cool
- 13:55and, you know, but it's all packed in a box.
- 13:57Like it's a piece of fine jewelry.
- 13:59And then there was like, I think it's a bracelet.
- 14:00I need to go in. I haven't really gone through my
- 14:02bag since I've gotten home, but what, what a hell of a guy from
- 14:05the race for thinking of me and Deb as well for allowing him to
- 14:09think of me. But I really wish I could have
- 14:12have gone to the end. What are your thoughts on it?
- 14:14Because it's, it's a lot. I mean, it's, it's a, it's, it's
- 14:17like the most, it's like 2 of the world's most powerful brands
- 14:22visually. Or at least right, yeah,
- 14:24visually. And it's kind of name
- 14:26recognition, right? Yeah, yeah, to.
- 14:28Give us to made a baby. To give us this love child Yes,
- 14:32you know it was interesting. I love, I do love with some of
- 14:37these, the cars that are sort of, you know, like like singer
- 14:42and Gunther works in terms of like the attention to detail
- 14:47that goes into every element of those vehicles is always so
- 14:50evident. And I have found myself being
- 14:53drawn to like the cream colored want versions when they do
- 14:59those, I think because it's sort of understated and it's like,
- 15:05you know, all of the work and thought that goes into them.
- 15:08And it's the the sort of quiet confidence of the more subtle
- 15:12colors because it's like, no, I don't have to scream from the
- 15:15rooftops. Like I love the bright ones so
- 15:18much, but there's something I love about the understated ones
- 15:21too. So I loved that about the cream
- 15:24one. I thought the the handbag
- 15:27surround on the gear shift was a really interesting way to
- 15:32demonstrate their capabilities of like, we really can do
- 15:36whatever, whatever you've dreamt up, I think.
- 15:40Yeah, I think in practical terms, I went, wow, that's
- 15:44amazing. Like, look at what they're able
- 15:47to bring to fruition. How quickly would you get sick
- 15:50of that? I think, like, is it, is it
- 15:53gimmicky to the point where you'd be like, you know, I loved
- 15:56this at the beginning. I don't know that I'm still in
- 15:58love with it, but it's a really great way to showcase, like show
- 16:03not tell of we can make your dreams come true, whatever your
- 16:07dreams are. Right, right.
- 16:09If that had been a wrap and those had been stickers, it
- 16:12wouldn't have been half as it would've been cool at all,
- 16:15right. But this was all the real deal.
- 16:18Again, I think it was just a look what we can do and you
- 16:22know, I don't know that that car is going to anyone in
- 16:25particular. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would say
- 16:27the the average person is not gonna check off every box and
- 16:31that is every box done checked. So but I'm sure it was a hell of
- 16:37a party. I think you know.
- 16:38Oh, I'm sure I have. Friends there and it's just you
- 16:40can't do everything. You can't do everything.
- 16:42That is and like what a great position to be in that we have
- 16:49like all of our sort of boots on the ground effort and networking
- 16:54over the past few years. We're now in a position of like,
- 16:56there's too many things, I mean. I know it's very, it's amazing
- 17:01People don't, people don't realize once you get there,
- 17:03you're still getting invited to stuff, right?
- 17:05And as I explained to Molly, it's probably like, well, you
- 17:08know, the A listers, they've they've, they've emailed all
- 17:10those people and now they're down to the, you know, like they
- 17:12said, the the C and the D or whatever.
- 17:14But I'll take it. And even if, you know, I'm not
- 17:17invited two months in advance, but but yeah, so many things.
- 17:22You just, you know, obviously I'm going to take the supercar
- 17:25house over the RV stand. That's just, you know how it's,
- 17:29it's going to be as far as invites.
- 17:30And and so that was my first, I guess.
- 17:32Oh, go ahead. Well, I was going to say like, I
- 17:34think that's part of what makes it so interesting and fun is
- 17:38because, I mean, and this happened last year.
- 17:40I think I mentioned this on the show last year.
- 17:43There was one, I think it was Friday, the night before my
- 17:47entire day flipped around, you know, like I had a thought in my
- 17:51head of like a rough plan of what I was going to attend for
- 17:54the week. And then, like you said, like
- 17:56these invitations come up. And some of it is because you
- 18:00run into somebody and they go, oh, my gosh, I'm bringing you
- 18:02with me or, or people from the brand reach out or whatever it
- 18:06is. But it was like, yeah, if I had
- 18:08told you what my Friday was ahead of time last week and then
- 18:12what? Or last year and then what I
- 18:13ended up doing this year or last, you know, You know what I
- 18:17mean? It was completely different.
- 18:19Never could have imagined that I would get to do what I actually
- 18:22got to do and attend the things I got to attend.
- 18:25But that's what makes it so fun. It's like you really don't know
- 18:28what your week is going to be. You live in the moment.
- 18:31Yeah. Yeah, you're on your toes, you
- 18:33know, and this logistical side of this.
- 18:36Like yesterday, Monterey Car Week is a yes.
- 18:39Week yeah. And that's kind of what you do.
- 18:42You keep saying yes to the best thing and maybe you Slough off
- 18:44something, you know, and you know, you hate to be like that,
- 18:47but that's what this is for, for a few days.
- 18:49You, you know, you have to be like that.
- 18:50I mean, again, there are logistics involved.
- 18:52You've got to get from one place to another.
- 18:54Oftentimes, you know, things, you know, a mile can take 10
- 18:57minutes or whatever. It's right, you know, as you
- 18:59know, it's, it's it's a lot. And you know, my, my, I guess,
- 19:02first real event, I think was my first real event.
- 19:06But we've talked about supercar houses, hypercar houses.
- 19:08I had the pleasure of going to the Zenvo house.
- 19:10It wasn't too far from the house mirrors thing.
- 19:13And it was kind of, you know, toward the, the East End of of
- 19:17Carmel Valley. And I don't know about you.
- 19:19I didn't know much about Zenvo cars.
- 19:21I've never had any experience with them.
- 19:23I guess I've seen them around here and there.
- 19:25I think, I don't know, it's quite a quite a while now.
- 19:27And I'm sure that like the sweeper under the rug.
- 19:29But there's a very famous incident with the fire in a in a
- 19:31Zenvo car on Top Gear, you may recall.
- 19:34I don't, but I got to go to one of their reveals when they, I
- 19:38think it was the North American debut when they had partnered
- 19:42with Galpin back in May. But that was my first exposure
- 19:46to the cars, you know? And of course, they're gorgeous
- 19:49works of art. They are, they are and they're
- 19:51cool and I guess I didn't realize quite how potent they
- 19:53were. These guys are so Danish and
- 19:56they kept talking about chairs. Chairs came up a lot and, you
- 19:59know, famous, you know, Danish chairs and things and banging
- 20:01Olafsson, but you get that, you get the drift.
- 20:03This is sort of a a hyper car done in in that, you know, and
- 20:09that philosophy, I guess. And so this car, this new car,
- 20:13it's called the Aurora. It's just a word that I will
- 20:14never say properly in my whole life.
- 20:17Aurora. But.
- 20:18That has to be. That has to make living in
- 20:21Colorado a little challenging. I know.
- 20:22Yeah, it's it's, yeah. It's one of those words, you
- 20:26know, it's hard to wrap how to wrap your head around, but but
- 20:28this car is also kind of hard to wrap your head around because it
- 20:31comes in two flavors. Flavors.
- 20:33It's very potent. There is a more streetable
- 20:35version and there there is a more track focused version.
- 20:39Everything down to the body work is is different.
- 20:42I think this thing is AV 12. It's got 12150 horsepower with
- 20:47the gas engine and then I think with the hybrid system it's up
- 20:49to 1650 or 1850. It's just insane.
- 20:53Yeah, it's a tremendous number. It's a tremendous number, right?
- 20:58It's, it's, it's a car with gravity.
- 21:00You remember when the, when the Bugatti came out, right, the
- 21:04Veyron and it was 1001 horsepower?
- 21:07Well, this is almost twice that. This is almost twice the damn
- 21:10horse part. I gotta say.
- 21:11These guys, the designer was there, the engineers were there,
- 21:14the CEO, all just just super nice guys, really knowledge and
- 21:18passionate. They've got something to prove
- 21:20here and and the cars are amazing.
- 21:22Just just beautifully crafted. Unfortunately, my head filled
- 21:25with, you know, all sorts of things since I was I was there.
- 21:29But I think about three and three million, 3.2 million, you
- 21:33know, which is not nothing, but anymore that's not so much, I
- 21:36guess, if you're shopping for a car like that.
- 21:39But really impressed, really beautiful house, great
- 21:42presentation. Ran into some friends, Gabe,
- 21:46who's a writer for Autoblog and some others and some new
- 21:49friends. Yeah, it was great.
- 21:51It was really cool. It was, it was a nice sort of
- 21:52way to ease into things. But yeah, but that was that was
- 21:57Thursday I and I think that was the same day that Gunther Works
- 22:01had an event. And and I know you've done a lot
- 22:03with Gunther Works. I have not.
- 22:04This is my first time ever being exposed to the brand other than,
- 22:07you know, just seeing the cars and garages and this kind of
- 22:09thing. Really classy event They were at
- 22:12a winery on. Again, this is this is kind of
- 22:14how the house worked out well, because so many of these events
- 22:17were actually on Carmel Valley Rd. the the wineries and this
- 22:19kind of thing. And they were.
- 22:20A lot of the winery manufacturer houses are, so it works out if
- 22:24you can, if that's a lot of your calendar and you can sort of
- 22:28locate yourself there, it's it's really smart.
- 22:31Totally, totally, and it sure helped having a car right,
- 22:34instead of trying to like you know, and being able to park it
- 22:37this kind of thing. But great event.
- 22:40I was able to bring some friends and and walked in and great
- 22:44wine. They had a string quartet
- 22:46playing Nirvana and other popular favorites.
- 22:49It was it was quite nice. It was quite nice.
- 22:51He had some cars there. Obviously, you know, they would
- 22:54reveal this carbon fiber track focused car later in the week,
- 22:58but got to spend, I don't know, 45 minutes from now.
- 23:00We're talking with Peter Nam, who I think you know and you
- 23:03know, he's also a very passionate guy.
- 23:05Yep, Yep. Greg, you know, and also divorce
- 23:08Diner. Yes, yeah, he started.
- 23:10With for sign here. Gunther Works followed after
- 23:13that and now they have Ctr. which is the Ferrari focused
- 23:18sort of, you know, entity. But yeah, So what did you and I,
- 23:23I ran into, I think Jason Meshnick was with you at the
- 23:26Gunther Works. Yeah, he was.
- 23:28And then I ran into him at the Range Rover event.
- 23:31So what? Yeah.
- 23:33So tell me about your chat with Peter.
- 23:35Yeah, I'll be real honest. I think people fall into one or
- 23:38two camps. You're like kind of a Singer
- 23:39person or you're a Gunther Works person, right?
- 23:41They're two very different philosophies, sort of going for
- 23:44the the same thing or similar thing.
- 23:47And and boy, the cars have really grown on me after talking
- 23:50with Peter because I'm he's so passionate.
- 23:52He told me the story and we'll have to get him on.
- 23:56He said he'd come on, but he talked about, he was literally
- 23:59laughed at when he decided I was going to make, you know, he's
- 24:01going to do this car, right? And it's kind of like, look at
- 24:03me now. And he had emotional, you know.
- 24:06He's laughing now, guys. I know, I know.
- 24:10I really now that I I had a tour of the car by the CEO
- 24:14especially. From.
- 24:15Him. I'm into it.
- 24:16Really. Yeah, it it definitely, like I
- 24:21had a similar experience at the Zenvo event at Galpin in May.
- 24:26Like you said, the Zenvo team, they're so approachable and
- 24:29generous with their time. I got kind of a walkthrough of
- 24:32their cars from one of their executive team.
- 24:35And it's definitely, I think it brings the cars to life, which
- 24:39it sounds like that's what happened to you with the Gutter
- 24:41Works and with your conversation with Peter.
- 24:44Well, I think an analogue is sort of you go into a museum and
- 24:47there's, I don't know, a decooning, you know, painting or
- 24:50something. And OK, you don't really, you
- 24:51know, OK, that's nice. It looks decorative.
- 24:54And then, then you then you then you, you read the, the placard,
- 24:57right? And you get some insight or and,
- 24:59and you know, and that's the same kind of thing once you sort
- 25:02of know why it is the way it is. Yeah.
- 25:06And if you, if you think about it, it's a lot of like what we
- 25:09do on this show and what we talk about is like, what's the story
- 25:12behind it? Like what are the people's
- 25:14stories? What are the stories behind the
- 25:15cars? What are the stories behind, you
- 25:17know, the events or a significant race or whatever,
- 25:21Like, and I think that's what a lot of us say to each other in
- 25:23the car world is like, it's the story, it's the people.
- 25:27That's that's what brings it to life.
- 25:28That's what really makes it, you know, makes it special.
- 25:33When everything is fast, as we've talked about before, it
- 25:35becomes about, you know, how, how you get there, right, how
- 25:38you get to that, you know, 230 mile an hour, top speed or
- 25:41whatever it is. And you know, his he yeah, he's
- 25:44the real deal. Really enjoyed talking with him.
- 25:47He also, yeah, he also promised a car to drive, which I hope
- 25:51wasn't just the folk telling wine talking.
- 25:55But yeah, really nice event. Really, really.
- 25:57You know, you get these, like, little Oasis is Oasis sort of
- 26:01throughout the week, right, where you can actually relax a
- 26:03little bit. Yeah.
- 26:03You're on and you're talking to people and they're trying to
- 26:05sell you something or inform you and this kind of thing.
- 26:08But they become these little sort of hideaways from the rest
- 26:11of the, you know, the madding crowds, right.
- 26:13And. Yeah, well, yeah, it is.
- 26:15It's an Oasis, a little bit of a respite, and sort of like this
- 26:20is delightful. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:22And you feel kind of kind of, you know, like hot shit going to
- 26:25these things, right? Yeah, that's kind of nice.
- 26:26It's we talk about this a lot. Right, I am all.
- 26:29Self see us now, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 26:31It's not just Peter Nam who got laughed at when he said hey, I'm
- 26:34going to be a part of this world.
- 26:35Here we are. So, you know, it's it's nice,
- 26:37but you can totally, totally. I think that brings us to
- 26:40Friday. Would you do on Friday?
- 26:42Had some non car related stuff to take care of during the day.
- 26:47So I'm I'm going to have to live vicariously through you.
- 26:49So tell me all about Quail, yeah?
- 26:52Well, the Quail was very fortunate this year to get
- 26:54credentials and you know, Con Media is obviously very involved
- 26:59with the quail and literally bumped into to Dan Khan and
- 27:02Corey Burns, who? Oh.
- 27:04That's awesome. The two guys, you know, guys
- 27:06that do run, you know, con media and so that was really nice and
- 27:09and got to spend some time with them before things got too
- 27:11crazy. You know, people always ask, are
- 27:15you a quail person? It's kind of like the singer
- 27:17Gunther question, right? You a quail person or are you a
- 27:19Pebble? Person.
- 27:21Yeah, and I think kind of like those cars.
- 27:23I'm really both this year, you know that each one has their
- 27:25place. I think, you know, the quails
- 27:27really leaning into what it is, you know, and Pebble now 75
- 27:31years on and we'll get to that is is obviously very that's the
- 27:35the Granddaddy, right. But it was was wasn't
- 27:37fundamentally different than years past.
- 27:39But the quail, if you don't know, of course, really focuses
- 27:42on on the newer stuff, the hyper cars, the Super cars, So like
- 27:46roof as a booth there displays their cars and Porsche is there
- 27:50and God, I mean, you know, good on the list right in you know,
- 27:54this fun stuff like who's the company that takes the Diablos
- 27:59and sort of singer rises them? Can't think of the name but it's
- 28:04just kind. Of.
- 28:06Right, right. And it'll come to.
- 28:08Me. Well, we'll think of it, but
- 28:09it's. We're not recording, it's.
- 28:10This kind of stuff. And then it's obviously the food
- 28:13and the drink is, is a heavy, you know, aspect of it and well,
- 28:16and it's, yeah, you walk in the hands.
- 28:17Of champagne, yeah, there's champagne as you arrive.
- 28:20Obviously there's beverage stations.
- 28:24I think one of the unique things about Quail is that the
- 28:27manufacturers a lot of times have beverages or food.
- 28:31Like there's, there's a hospitality element to
- 28:33everyone's display almost, which is not true at other events.
- 28:38I know last year, I remember it was two years ago, roof had
- 28:43breakfast burritos for everyone. They had like a little, you
- 28:45know, a little bag and it's, it's just the little touches
- 28:49that make you feel so sort of like welcomed and, you know,
- 28:54seen to use a, a word of the day.
- 28:58But just like the thoughtfulness of like, Yep, we knew everybody
- 29:01was getting up early because one of the things like you said,
- 29:05they focus Quail focuses a lot on new cars from major
- 29:10manufacturers. Like, you know, Maserati will do
- 29:13a reveal or Lamborghini will do a reveal.
- 29:15And so in the morning at Quail, they have what they call the
- 29:18press conferences and everybody has a time slot.
- 29:21And so if you're there in the morning, you're you're
- 29:23crisscrossing the field to like, we got to get to Lamborghini at
- 29:278:30. We got to get to Maserati at,
- 29:28you know, 845. And at night.
- 29:31Yeah. And they're whooping, you know,
- 29:33like drapes are coming off of cars left and right and we're
- 29:35seeing all this eye candy. But it was nice, you know, like,
- 29:39you can feel the thoughtfulness that goes into like roof with
- 29:43the breakfast burritos. We know everybody's getting up
- 29:45really early to get here for the press conferences.
- 29:47And so here's a little token of our appreciation.
- 29:50Thank you. For coming to the booth and
- 29:52Myers Banks always has a great display, you know, and they have
- 29:56like Frame and Thomas. Let's get the sand trap.
- 29:59Yeah, the sand trap. And so they have the dune
- 30:01buggies or the, you know, Myers Banks in the sand trap, which is
- 30:04just such a great visual. You know, a few years ago I met
- 30:08the gal that was their color designer for a long time, had a
- 30:11long conversation with her. So I think that's one of the
- 30:14great things about Quayle is that a lot of the people that
- 30:17have helped create the cars that are there are there and
- 30:20accessible and willing to just chat with you.
- 30:22If you're, you know, like if you're genuinely interested and
- 30:27want to hear about the story, they're very happy to share it
- 30:30with you, which it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of them
- 30:34were like, thank you so much for coming.
- 30:36I don't have time to have a long conversation, right?
- 30:38No, and that's not the case. Like many of them are willing to
- 30:41just chat with you which is amazing.
- 30:43It's very real, very authentic. I think you mentioned, you know,
- 30:46you mentioned these unveilings, these reveals, oftentimes the
- 30:49audience response is very authentic, right?
- 30:52Won't clap if they're not impressed with what's been
- 30:54presented to them, which is which is unique because it it's
- 30:57not just industry people. Anyone can buy a ticket in
- 30:59theory, right. But you know, I, I was on the
- 31:02bus with the our buddy Bassam less if and his and his wife
- 31:06Anna and folks and yeah, obviously much better dress than
- 31:10I. Their fabulousity is not to be
- 31:14understated. That's right.
- 31:15I always look amazing. Yeah.
- 31:17You know, I got to spend, you know, Bruce Meyer, another
- 31:20friend of ours had, I think it was 6 or 8 cars, the part of
- 31:24this special Bruce Meyer collection at the Quail this
- 31:26year. He would later win Best of show.
- 31:30I got to spend time with him and and his collection manager, Tom
- 31:33Kenny on the green. Love those guys.
- 31:36You know, I'd like to think that I was the lucky little
- 31:38leprechaun that brought him that luck, you know, having hung out
- 31:41with him. But I I think that car was going
- 31:42to win no matter. But yeah, just just a neat guy.
- 31:47Everyone wants their picture with Bruce, right?
- 31:50You know, and he had some great cars on on display yeah You
- 31:55know, it's it's so great 'cause you do run into friends, but
- 31:56then you immediately like lose them.
- 31:58You're proud. So since it's.
- 32:01Just like a bunch of pews and balls.
- 32:03Yeah. And it is.
- 32:04It's, I think car week in general is like, it's like the
- 32:09best birthday party that you dreamed of as a kid, but as an
- 32:12adult because so many of your friends are there from around
- 32:16the world, really. And you're all there for the
- 32:18same thing, Ooing and I. And just like everybody's heads
- 32:21are exploding the best way. And like you said, like you're
- 32:24kind of bouncing off each other and you get to see so many of
- 32:27your friends all in one place. Yeah.
- 32:30Yeah, it's great. It's, you know, it's just, you
- 32:33know, the stuff on the field is just always wonderful.
- 32:36You know, GT Motor Cars was there and shout out to Zach
- 32:39Sapka, who was there, who went around and started up every
- 32:41everything and anything I wanted to see.
- 32:44So got to poke around with some, you know, F 50s and that kind of
- 32:48thing. And that was fun and God, you
- 32:50know, got to see the Deisties. The whole Deisty club was.
- 32:53Was, I know we got to meet there.
- 32:55We got to meet the female contingent, which was amazing.
- 32:58I mean, you, yeah. Yeah.
- 32:59I've only met them on FaceTime. So it was wonderful to see, you
- 33:05know, Lauren and Iowa in person at Pebble.
- 33:08But yeah, I mean, Lewis has grown afoot, obviously.
- 33:12Yeah, we got to see them at the track on Saturday, up at the
- 33:15Corkscrew and. Then oh good.
- 33:17My dad and John and Lewis and I did our now second annual Dawn
- 33:21Patrol reconnoitering together this year at Pebbles, so that
- 33:24was really fun too. Is it just me?
- 33:26You know, and I've never done Dawn Patrol, but I would see the
- 33:28hats. Over the years on the hats, has
- 33:31the Hegarty logo gotten larger? Well, Dawn Patrol has gotten
- 33:34smaller. Is that just me?
- 33:36I have no accurate information, but I feel like there that's a
- 33:41reasonable, you know, hypothesis to put forth.
- 33:44Like, yeah, people murder. Oh my gosh, I know murder
- 33:48someone. Somebody asked me this year,
- 33:50they said did you get here at Hat O'clock?
- 33:53And no, last year I was very lucky to get a hat and I was
- 33:57like, I'm not running in there this year.
- 34:00I'm going to give somebody else a chance.
- 34:02Now that's, that's cool. One last thing about the Dicey's
- 34:04The first time I ran into them, they literally ran into me.
- 34:07I was waiting at the will call at whatever that Saint Philip's
- 34:11Church, whatever for Quail. Over quail.
- 34:13Credentials and stuff. And there's kind of like 1/2
- 34:16circle driveway and I'm standing in line and I see like this like
- 34:20Kia Telluride or something, like just inching closer to me and
- 34:23closer. It's sunny out.
- 34:24I, you know, there's a glare on the wind and this thing's like
- 34:27ready to bump me. And I turned around and just
- 34:29gave them the look of death, right?
- 34:30Just this, you know, I stared through their souls and then I,
- 34:33I saw right away it was the whole Deisty family laughing,
- 34:36you know? They would, yeah.
- 34:43Yes, that's so funny. Yeah, there is a truth, Quill.
- 34:46About that little run in. And they were, they were
- 34:50removing their Glee at having, having, giving you a Yeah.
- 34:56Like, wait a minute, What's going on here?
- 34:58Yeah, well, I was cranky. I just got in there.
- 35:01I'm still feeling things out. You know, you're, you're sort of
- 35:04navigating the the. Well, it's sort of the the
- 35:07incongruity of like, no, this car is actually just driving
- 35:10right at me. Well, that would make sense.
- 35:12Like someone just thinks they're more important than I am, you
- 35:14know? And.
- 35:16It is. But no, it was, it was great.
- 35:19I mean, the quail. What can you say about the
- 35:20quail? The quail really has become a
- 35:23fun day, a completely exhausting but amazing day with a little
- 35:28bit of everything, food, drink. Like the one day actually had
- 35:30more than like a glass of wine, right, Right.
- 35:33Got to, you know, see so many people, so many friends and it
- 35:36was just, you know, they do the fly over with the military jets.
- 35:39It's like a thing. Yeah.
- 35:41Big peninsula inflatable dude bouncing around.
- 35:44I mean, it's, it's, it's good. Peterson had a wonderful, uh,
- 35:47display of stuff. Just a very good day.
- 35:50I cannot get over the logistics. Not just over the quail or, you
- 35:53know, in isolation, but within the greater week, right.
- 35:57Because there are cars you'll see there that you'll see other.
- 35:59Yeah. I don't know.
- 36:01And yet it all seems to be like this controlled chaos.
- 36:03Like no one seems to be stressed, you know, I'm sure
- 36:05that people are. But you know, seeing Dan and
- 36:07Corey from CON, they seem cool as cucumbers and their Blazers
- 36:10with their little CON badge, like they're the Secret Service
- 36:12I mean. It's their poker face they've
- 36:14got, yeah, you know, they have like an earpiece where it's like
- 36:17everything. Totally, totally.
- 36:20Yeah, yeah, I'm just impressed with with just how at least from
- 36:24the outside, how seamless everything seems to to to go and
- 36:28and be run. But yeah, the quail is just
- 36:30always great. It's ticket prices keep going up
- 36:32each year, but dare I say it's worth it.
- 36:35It's well, it's a, it's a full. And I think one of the other
- 36:39unique things about quail is like you mentioned this briefly,
- 36:42is the, the food is as much a part of the event as the cars
- 36:48because they have these giant, you know, like circus tents,
- 36:52giant event tents scattered throughout the field.
- 36:55And it's like cuisines of different regions.
- 36:59You know, you have like Italian and Indian and like Mexican and
- 37:02whatever. And then even throughout that,
- 37:04there's little ice cream stands and little lemonade and, you
- 37:08know, ice tea stations and water and whatever.
- 37:11And so it's like, you really could spend your entire day just
- 37:16eating and drinking, yes. And why can't they do this at
- 37:19Disney World where you just walk in and, you know, with your kids
- 37:22and like, yeah, I'll have 6 ice creams, right?
- 37:24No one bats an eye, right? Because I paid for it and I bet
- 37:27a Disney ticket isn't isn't too far off with the quails you.
- 37:30Know, I know for these days, I know they had cotton candy that
- 37:35was like a cotton candy station one year I mean.
- 37:37It's like gourmet. Right.
- 37:39And it I think it had a logo in it.
- 37:41It was. It was like rose flavored cotton
- 37:43candy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:44It really is like adult Disneyland for car people.
- 37:47Exactly. I'm sure there was popcorn
- 37:49somewhere. I feel like, you know, it's like
- 37:52and with the the I don't think it's the Blue Angels, but it's
- 37:55that type of like you mentioned the fly over and they do the
- 37:58patriotic smoke and I think don't they play the national
- 38:02anthem? I.
- 38:02Think Oh yeah, someone's belting that out the loudest speakers.
- 38:06Yes yeah, it's great it's great They I had the most delicious
- 38:11ice cream bar I've ever had in my life that was some sort of
- 38:14bourbon ice cream just fantastic And you know when you're there
- 38:18you know like you know when I'm there like you I'm sure you're
- 38:20working you know right. You're going to run into, you
- 38:22might have an opportunity for, you know, an the Fly interview
- 38:25or something, right? The last thing I want to do is
- 38:27feed my face and then get caught.
- 38:29Yeah. Halfway.
- 38:29You know, through the the yeah. So, you know, you try to, you
- 38:34know, you try to, you try to be good, but yeah.
- 38:36And then the cars, obviously we hardly talked about the cars,
- 38:38but there's just some amazing stuff, right?
- 38:40Just just great cars. Just a great what really stuck.
- 38:42You at Quail this year? God, I don't know if it was the
- 38:46most amazing thing there, but that that the the Flak Bow
- 38:50Porsche that they revealed Sunder, Sunder vunch, I think
- 38:54kind of a level, you know, beyond the the regular Sunder
- 38:57vinch. Yes, Porsche will make you a
- 38:59slant nose of new slant nose if you are a good enough client.
- 39:04That impressed me. I have really liked seeing
- 39:08Audi's Nuvolari in person. I love that thing.
- 39:11I think it looks great. That's a very, you know,
- 39:14polarizing car. Really like the thing.
- 39:16Thought it was interesting that yes, there are the four rings on
- 39:19the front of the car, but on the booth itself there was no Audi
- 39:23badging to be found. It just said Nuvolari.
- 39:25We joked it was kind of like when Oldsmobile decided they
- 39:27were going to come up with their Aurora and it was not an
- 39:29Oldsmobile, it was an Aurora. There's one small badge, but
- 39:32that's a hell of a thing. Obviously the roof cars always
- 39:35get me, and it's nice to see the roof family as well.
- 39:39I've got a friend who's ordering a roof right now going through
- 39:42the process. That's.
- 39:43Been fun living vicariously. It's you know, it's like, yeah,
- 39:46which, which shade of dark blue are you thinking?
- 39:49Or which you know which yellow you think would work best on the
- 39:52SCR. Stitching.
- 39:53Shall I go with? Yes.
- 39:54Yes, you know, I mean, that's that's really that's living the
- 39:57dream and and, and you know what?
- 39:59And you see that all around there are people like.
- 40:01Actively buying cars, right, Right.
- 40:03I mean, there was a Hennessy car, right, that was on display
- 40:07there, a hyper car. The woman probably, I don't
- 40:10know, in her 70s was like, hell yeah, I think I want that.
- 40:13I'm going to take that home with me today.
- 40:15I. Love that.
- 40:16For you, she looked eccentric. You know, she looked like the
- 40:19right customer for the car. But, you know, it's just little
- 40:22moments like that, you know, where it's just, but it's it's
- 40:24very inclusive. It's very welcoming.
- 40:27You know, it's just it's it's just a good time, a good day.
- 40:29We should probably move on. That's the quail.
- 40:30Yeah, you don't need. To beating the quail to death.
- 40:33I know. That's right, it's a dead quail,
- 40:36people. Are people are buying cars?
- 40:38That's kind of been the like, not joke, non joke the last few
- 40:42years of like that's why manufacturers are doing their
- 40:44reveals there because they sell out on the field at the quail.
- 40:47Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:48No, that's it. That's it.
- 40:50And just these little moments of magic throughout the week.
- 40:52I was fortunate to be hanging out with, again, with Maurice,
- 40:54and we crashed the OTS house party.
- 40:59I, I was not on the list, but I was with someone who, who was.
- 41:03Yeah, Yeah. You know, we ended up walking up
- 41:04to. I felt like I was like a
- 41:05teenager or something. We walked to the wrong house and
- 41:07someone's like, can I help you? The party's next door, They had
- 41:10the garage door up, some pizzas and stuff.
- 41:13And from the surface, it just sort of looked like a, you know,
- 41:15a gathering. And then he realized, yeah,
- 41:20that's a very special, you know, what's what's that Ferrari
- 41:24shooting break, that light blue one that they drive around.
- 41:27You've seen it on, on, on on Instagram.
- 41:30It's like this sleek 70s or Bertone or whatever creation
- 41:34sounds great. Oh yeah, there's the the Nardone
- 41:36928, right? And, you know, and you know, the
- 41:38CEO of the company and Oh yeah, good to meet you founders of
- 41:42Machinisima, you know, and then you turn around and you know,
- 41:46they've got their cool 300 TE Mercedes that they use as their
- 41:49shop car and stuff, right? So again, I I it was a little,
- 41:52it was a little like I was crashing the party, but they
- 41:54were didn't get to talk to to Taz, but did get to spend some
- 41:57time with Derek and was very gracious.
- 42:00And you know, it's these little moments again, these things you
- 42:02fall into and you know, they had been on the grand last year and
- 42:07we're on our show, you know, soon after and stuff.
- 42:09So it's good to meet these people and and really get to,
- 42:11you know, post show, right. But that was also the night of
- 42:16the Porsche party. And that's a an event that I
- 42:19know you and I have both gone to in the past.
- 42:21Word on the street was that that thing was going to be locked
- 42:24down this year in a way that maybe it hadn't been, of course,
- 42:27later in the evening. Oh, come on over.
- 42:29No, no, we can get you but by that.
- 42:32Point Car Week In the moment change, yeah.
- 42:35We were home, so yeah, we didn't.
- 42:37I didn't go. Did you go?
- 42:37I I wasn't there. No, Friday was mellow, just
- 42:42walking around Carmel, like sort of taken in the sights.
- 42:45And I have to say this year, at least in Carmel, it was the year
- 42:48of the McLaren because holy moly, were they all over the
- 42:52place in Carmel. I mean, it was really and I
- 42:54think it was it was fun to see because there was so much
- 42:58variety, like, you know, every color of the rainbow, all
- 43:01different, you know, models and just so much personality in all
- 43:07of them and so distinct from each other.
- 43:10And that was one of the cars that I followed in.
- 43:14You know, people that have driven up will will know what
- 43:16I'm talking about when I say the guy with the big balls, the big
- 43:19drawing of the guy with the two cabbages on the road there was
- 43:23have. You never seen this?
- 43:24Well, if you've driven up from. Oh, driving up from the South.
- 43:26OK, Yeah. OK, There was a McLaren in like
- 43:30the Gulf livery colors, which was interesting.
- 43:32And so they just like, it really was a running theme for the
- 43:36week, so that was fun to see. All of those, by the way, you're
- 43:39going to see Gordon Murray and he'll probably put his arm
- 43:41around you and take a picture with you if you ask, right?
- 43:43You know, I mean, this is the kind of thing so it's just, and
- 43:46you know, I was trying to explain to someone else, it's
- 43:48not just the Mclarens, It's not just the roof cars.
- 43:50It's not just the Porsches, the Ferraris or whatever, or the the
- 43:53vintage stuff at Pebble. It is the most random stuff like
- 43:56you alluded to at the beginning, the the Renault Clio and this
- 43:59kind of thing. You know, if you want to see,
- 44:01you know, 6 Mercedes, 6 by sixes, you'll probably see them
- 44:04or, you know, cars that weren't sold in the States, weird
- 44:07Russian cars or Czech cars. Or it's, it's just, it's almost
- 44:11becomes a contest of who can have the, the, the most sort of
- 44:14like esoteric. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:18It's in cars that you've forgotten, forgotten about, like
- 44:21just, you know, like an E30 BMW that just looked like it rolled
- 44:24off the assembly line, right. Well, that's a damn good looking
- 44:27car, right? It's it's and then the people
- 44:30again, you know, I've talked about being seated next to James
- 44:33May my first year and hey, you get given the nut.
- 44:35Super, super cool. But it's these chance meetings
- 44:37of, you know, with people that you have right throughout the
- 44:40week. And I was going to ask you, did
- 44:43you go to see the spike show? Did you catch the Spike show
- 44:45before the day before Pebble? No, I was at the track that
- 44:47morning. Actually.
- 44:49We had a friend that was driving in the Phil Hill race and so we
- 44:53went for that. So I did not get to any of the
- 44:57forums. I did make it to the to the
- 44:59Concord village later that day, but no.
- 45:02I. Was again.
- 45:04It's like too many things happening at the same time.
- 45:06I know too many, too many things.
- 45:07Yeah, no, I'm sorry to miss their show, but because that's.
- 45:10No, no, Yeah, no. I walked past, but it already
- 45:13started. And I think I probably could
- 45:14have snuck in, but I didn't want to be.
- 45:17I didn't want to be that guy, you know?
- 45:19I didn't see Seinfeld there, though.
- 45:20I poked my head in and I did not see Seinfeld.
- 45:23So maybe he came in later. Had Seinfeld been up on the
- 45:25stage, I probably would have walked in just to say, you know,
- 45:27I did it. But but we'll get to Pebble
- 45:30because we still have Saturday. I know well and I wanted to
- 45:34briefly share about the Range Rover reveal that they did.
- 45:38Oh, please. Yeah.
- 45:39So they do, yeah. I didn't get there.
- 45:41Yeah. So they do.
- 45:42Every year they build a one of one and the intent is that it is
- 45:46auctioned off to and then the proceeds go to benefit the
- 45:50Monterey Bay Foundation. And it was interesting because
- 45:53they had somebody from the foundation this year speak.
- 45:56She spoke last year as well. But the little tidbit that I
- 45:59took away from her remarks this year.
- 46:03So I didn't realize that a couple miles off the coast of,
- 46:07you know, the coast of California in the Monterey Bay,
- 46:10there is a an underwater Canyon that's deeper than the Grand
- 46:14Canyon. This is.
- 46:15Where the UFOs are supposed to be coming out?
- 46:17Of right, yeah. So there's all sorts of, right.
- 46:21She said because of this deep, deep, deep Canyon, Monterey Bay
- 46:26is it's either the most or one of the most biologically diverse
- 46:30areas on the planet, which I had never heard, you know, in all
- 46:33the years of being. But hey, great place for an
- 46:36aquarium, right? Yeah.
- 46:37Yeah. And so.
- 46:40So that was like a little sort of aside, not about the cars,
- 46:44but really stuck with me. And so this year they had taken
- 46:48inspiration from an abalone shell, which if you've seen is
- 46:51sort of a mother of Pearlish type thing.
- 46:52So they did a Range Rover white with this abalone paint and they
- 46:57have a new logo with the R And so they had incorporated that
- 47:01into the interior. It's on the wheels as well, but
- 47:05they had it was inlaid with in wood then with like abalone
- 47:12esque white material in the console with the logo.
- 47:16And then they repeated it sort of on the ceiling and on the
- 47:19back of the seats. And what was interesting is the
- 47:21way they had done it, whether this this, you know, feeling was
- 47:24intentional or not. The wood looked like the sand
- 47:28and then it kind of flowed. The logo kind of flowed up onto
- 47:31the ceiling and I looked at it and I went, it looks like when a
- 47:34wave crashes on the sand and then it goes back out to the
- 47:36water and you you're left with the sea foam.
- 47:39So you have sort of the white on the sand.
- 47:41So it kind of gave the interior a lot of motion and serenity at
- 47:46the same time. But it just.
- 47:48Yeah, it felt, you know, very unique and of course it was
- 47:53really just, you know, it's it's always nice to be included in
- 47:57that. And so the.
- 47:58Yeah, totally. Cool.
- 47:59And then, you know, Lynn Woodward was there and we got to
- 48:01catch up, which was amazing. Yeah, and Leader.
- 48:04Yeah, yeah. And I got to see her again at
- 48:06Pebble, but it was just, it was such a treat to get some time
- 48:09with her on Thursday. And then I got to meet Dan Pund,
- 48:12who is the, you know, the guy at Road and Track.
- 48:15And we have a yeah, we follow him through the show and, you
- 48:19know, through my account on Instagram.
- 48:20So it was nice to put a face to the name.
- 48:22And then nice obviously saw Jason Mesnick, who was your good
- 48:27friend that I know through you now.
- 48:28So yeah, that was really fun. And my friend from Jaguar, yeah,
- 48:33so it was awesome. Nice.
- 48:34Yeah. Who?
- 48:35Yeah, who I got to to meet later, right.
- 48:36You know, I got. I thought you were going to say
- 48:38they, they did like a pimp my ride thing.
- 48:40There was like an aquarium in the back or something, you know,
- 48:42and full of sea urchins and seals or something.
- 48:46No, that's super cool. I want to do more with yeah,
- 48:48with JLR across the board moving forward.
- 48:51I really like those guys Got to got to meet to her and her boss,
- 48:56you know, Jeff, who you know later at Pebble.
- 48:58But it could have been nicer and appreciate the hospitality
- 49:01because it pebbles we'll get to, you've got to, you've got to get
- 49:05into. You have to know somebody.
- 49:06Yeah, right, Right. You can't just.
- 49:08Yeah, it's not just all open to everyone.
- 49:09So yeah, sometimes it takes more effort than than others, but.
- 49:14No, I love the whole JLR team. They've all, they've been so
- 49:17welcoming and like, you know, we're friends for life.
- 49:20It's, you know, you meet people and you're just like, yes,
- 49:23you're, you're my people. So that's, yeah, no, they're,
- 49:26that's been a delight. A real deal and I, I'd be remiss
- 49:29if I didn't mention some other folks for the real deal.
- 49:31Of course, we had Meekum COO Samurta on the show a few weeks
- 49:35ago and I had never been to a Meekum auction.
- 49:37I'd done their previews, I think it was last year.
- 49:40And, and really all the auctions are going to.
- 49:43They're all worth seeing, right? Shout out to Pauline at, at
- 49:47Gooding and you know, our friends at Broad Arrow and RM as
- 49:52well Bottoms. But but Meekum, I think does, as
- 49:56we talked on the show, more volume than all the other
- 49:59auction houses do together during the car week.
- 50:02And so they literally bring in like these big top tents and
- 50:06they're loud and you know, there's, there are lights and
- 50:08there are food vendors and they're off at another.
- 50:11I can't remember the name of the the golf course, but they're
- 50:14kind of off a little bit. It's a massive event.
- 50:17Just just a ton of people and and exciting.
- 50:21And they were so gracious. David Morton, who's their
- 50:27director of communications. And Sam were there.
- 50:29Sam was up on the auction block. I get to go up in the auction
- 50:32block. David Lee, the big Ferrari
- 50:33collector was there. They happened to be doing these
- 50:36Brabus Porsches while I was there, which was interesting
- 50:38because I didn't even know that was a thing until recently.
- 50:42You know, historically they've worked on Mercedes-Benz and
- 50:44cars. Yeah.
- 50:46And so, yeah, it was. It's such a spectacle.
- 50:49You have to love it. It is the pace.
- 50:52There's no like British auctioneer there.
- 50:54There is a an American and a cowboy hat and you know, he's
- 50:57talking fast and they're selling cars fast.
- 51:00And it was really a lot of fun. They were really wonderful to
- 51:03shummy around like they did and had some fantastic cars too.
- 51:06I mean cars of, you know, at least the same caliber as anyone
- 51:09else. So really fun to see.
- 51:12I mean, Pebble Beach winners and and that that kind of thing.
- 51:15You know they very famously Speaking of David Lee, sold that
- 51:19250 GTO. Right, it was.
- 51:21Last year and I think he was the buyer, the White 1, the Bianco
- 51:26whatever, 250 GTO. But so yeah, that was that was
- 51:30fun. You know, it's all about new
- 51:31experiences and boy, that that was that, that was that was
- 51:35really a lot of fun. So I just want to say thanks to
- 51:37those guys as well, but. To get to go up on the platform,
- 51:40that's the way to go to the auction.
- 51:41That was that was cool. And you know you're on TV,
- 51:44right? So.
- 51:45You just do the cutting the cake.
- 51:47You're like, yes to all my fans at home.
- 51:50I'll admit before was, I guess was after I was up on the on the
- 51:53on the auction block was sitting in the audience.
- 51:55I just wanted to get a feel. And then I realized I was
- 51:58sitting in the registered auction bidders section and
- 52:01there was a woman for me come. She kind of looked over at me
- 52:03and. Or like throw, yeah.
- 52:04She's little smiled and so I smiled back and then she's
- 52:07looking at me cuz she thinks I'm bidding right and thank God my
- 52:11placard said media but. Absolutely not.
- 52:14You forget that there are people there doing real business,
- 52:16right? And, and some of us are just
- 52:18there to to report on it. But really, really great.
- 52:21And this, I guess, unless there's anything else to speak
- 52:23of, this brings us to Sunday, the big day.
- 52:26Yeah. So you got there early?
- 52:29I did and not. And what was funny is we got
- 52:31there before. I think we got there by 5:30,
- 52:36which was later than we've gotten there in the past.
- 52:39Wow. Yeah, I was looking at the time
- 52:41and I went, all right, this year, like we're not, you know,
- 52:45crazed to get hats. We don't have to be there right
- 52:49at, you know, sunrise. So yeah, I was like, what time
- 52:51is sunrise? We'll aim to be there then.
- 52:53So I knew we'd see some of the cars.
- 52:56Obviously there are a lot of them that they move when it's
- 52:58still dark. But yeah, we we made it.
- 53:04And on the way in, we had a really fun surprise.
- 53:07We're walking in and there's the cars that are being staged, you
- 53:09know, to be the next one to drive in.
- 53:12And I looked over and it was this really unique car.
- 53:14And I went, wait a minute, I know who that is.
- 53:16And it was Myron Verdis, who has joined us on the show before.
- 53:20So I got to say hello and meet him in person and his daughter.
- 53:24And it was a new car to them. And of course I'm not
- 53:29remembering. No, this is the one.
- 53:31It kind of looks like a big shoe, right?
- 53:32And it was made by a company that made like chainsaws and
- 53:34things. It was.
- 53:35Is this the one? I don't if.
- 53:37I I hope I'm not thinking of the wrong one.
- 53:39I don't know, but it may. Be one of the.
- 53:42Yeah, the. People I really wanted to cross
- 53:44paths with this year and it just didn't, didn't happen.
- 53:46But it will. It will happen.
- 53:48It'll happen. That's cool.
- 53:49I'm. So glad you got to meet him.
- 53:51It was so fun. Like it was such a like, you
- 53:55know, full circle, like, you know, obviously we've been in
- 53:58communication, He's been on the show, we've met through the show
- 54:00but hadn't seen each other in person.
- 54:01And then he had this amazing, like kids from the 80s will
- 54:06remember the airbrushed T-shirts where you'd get like your name
- 54:09or whatever. He had an airbrushed.
- 54:12Yeah, he had an airbrushed T-shirt of himself and the car
- 54:15that he was wearing in the car to drive into Pebbles.
- 54:18So that was, it was so much fun. And his daughter was lovely.
- 54:21And so that was really fun to see.
- 54:24And they my favorite of all of the cars that we did see driving
- 54:30onto the lawn. So I had two favorites.
- 54:34One was a Navy and white 53 Ferrari 340 Vinyale Spider.
- 54:40It was just like if you had to pick one car, yeah, it was just
- 54:45striking. And it was like it wasn't too
- 54:48big. There was nothing extra.
- 54:50It was just like, I'm just, I'm here.
- 54:53It was just fantastic. Yes, yes, Just cool.
- 54:57Just yeah. Just cool.
- 54:58So that one and then the 1938 Phantom Corsair, which is the
- 55:03one of one, it was the black. I don't know if you saw, Yeah.
- 55:05Yeah, yeah. That's, I mean, it's like an art
- 55:06Deco and it was built by Rust Hines, who was one of the heirs
- 55:11of the Heinz ketchup. Fortune.
- 55:14And he actually, I think, passed away the next year in a road
- 55:18race or in a race, but he came. He designed the whole thing.
- 55:23Exactly. And it just, it was.
- 55:27It's such a thing to behold. And if you haven't seen it,
- 55:31actually, Chris Jacobs, the host, and, you know, he's worked
- 55:34with Haggerty and overhauling, go to his account on Instagram
- 55:39because he's got a good video of it driving by.
- 55:41And so you really get a sense for the scale of it and just the
- 55:46how striking it is. And it, you know, in a sea of
- 55:51incredible cars, this car would move or drive by or whatever,
- 55:56and there would be this sort of hush because people were going,
- 55:58what is this, right? Again, it's got gravity, yeah.
- 56:01It really like so much gravity and I think because it was black
- 56:06and the lines are so unique, there's a bit of Batmobile like
- 56:10superhero to it. And just.
- 56:14You know, I went, I don't know anything about this thing.
- 56:16And that's if I had to pick one, it would have been a really
- 56:20tough choice between that and the Ferrari.
- 56:21Yeah, yeah. And if you weren't there, you
- 56:24don't know, but there was a real marine layer for most of the
- 56:28morning. And so it really added this
- 56:30surreal quality to the place, right.
- 56:32So you sort of see these things emerge from the mist and yeah,
- 56:36I, I pebbles just Pebble, right. I mean, it's, it's, it's, it's,
- 56:40it's again, it's, it's the one. And, you know, every year they
- 56:43outdo themselves. This year is the 75th year.
- 56:45We of course had Vince Vinaldi the, the new president on a
- 56:48couple weeks ago. He was great.
- 56:50I think the future is secure in his hands.
- 56:54The, the level of the cars. I mean, just just when you think
- 56:57you've seen it all, you know, next year a bunch of new stuff
- 56:59shows up. I think the thing that took the
- 57:01cake for me was the Ferrari car hauler with the 250 Gtos or
- 57:06whatever. Come on, it's like that was I've
- 57:09seen pictures of this thing, but there it was this massive you.
- 57:12Know size of a city. Bus, I think it was made from a
- 57:14fire engine or something. This massive red thing with
- 57:17these amazing cars, It's like the best Fisher Price playset
- 57:21ever. Come to life, Yeah.
- 57:23Good God, there was something about that marriage of those
- 57:26cars and that thing like the the truck wouldn't be nearly as cool
- 57:29on its own right? The the transporter and the cars
- 57:32are wonderful, but together you they just again, it's just
- 57:35something elevated and something that you just don't see.
- 57:37And it was. Fantastic.
- 57:38It was just it was so Pebble, like you said, to just have to
- 57:43have those three together displayed that way.
- 57:47I mean, it just it took your breath away.
- 57:49Yeah, it's so. It was just wild.
- 57:52I really enjoyed Pebble this year, but not until I got done
- 57:56with an interview that I had scheduled.
- 57:59I was so nervous I realized I forgot my wallet.
- 58:01So I had to give up my parking right next to the lodge earlier
- 58:04in the morning, go back home 2 hours later to get back, then
- 58:07I'm out parked by Spanish Bay. Had to take a city bus in.
- 58:10I mean, it was fine right? It was it was great, but it.
- 58:11Was part of the experience right?
- 58:13Yes, yes, and, and I had this interview that I, I, I, I didn't
- 58:18know exactly what it was going to be.
- 58:19You know, Lamborghini brought these 60 muras, which is, you
- 58:22know, more than 1/10 of. I think it might be about one in
- 58:25five of all the muras left. You know, we're there so. 60 so
- 58:29amazing I love those. And, and it was incredible.
- 58:33You can talk about gravity. And then the owners were quite
- 58:35colorful too. But I was there to interview
- 58:39Federico Foschini, who is the not only the CMO chief sales
- 58:44officer and marketing officer, but also runs Polo Storica,
- 58:48which is it's the heritage division.
- 58:50It's like Mercedes-Benz Classic. And I had 20 minutes with the
- 58:54guy and I was so worried about being late.
- 58:56So I saw Johnny and Lynn on the way in, and I wanted to sit and
- 59:01talk. I think they wanted to talk.
- 59:03And because I haven't talked to them in a while and would love
- 59:06to, but I had to. I wasn't even sure where I was
- 59:08going. I didn't know.
- 59:09Of course, the mirrors were all the way in the back at this
- 59:10point. The sun's out.
- 59:11It's getting a little. It's getting a little schvitzy
- 59:14out, you know? Yeah.
- 59:15And finally find him. And then I don't really know
- 59:17what he. I mean, I know what he looks
- 59:19like, but I have to find the PR person, right?
- 59:21Shout out to Jordan. He found me.
- 59:24And after Stefan Winkelman gave a presentation in a toast, I had
- 59:2920 minutes with this guy. And and you know, you're not
- 59:33going to have a heart to heart. You know, you're in the middle
- 59:35of this thing. You know he's Italian.
- 59:37Challenge accepted. So you come in with questions,
- 59:40right? And I'm not going to win any
- 59:42awards with this interview, but I think all things considered,
- 59:44it went well and it was quite insightful.
- 59:47And I think one of my big takeaways, he I said is asked
- 59:49him if the mural was the most iconic.
- 59:51Well, go, go listen to the interview.
- 59:52It was a 12 minute whatever special.
- 59:55Yeah, special episode, bonus episode, yeah, go, go, go
- 59:58listen. But he he did have some real
- 59:59insight and and you know, some I think answer from the heart on a
- 1:00:02couple things about what he feels is the most iconic
- 1:00:05Lamborghini and, and to him as a child of the 70s.
- 1:00:09Again, this guy's three years older than me and he's the CMO
- 1:00:12of Lamborghini, but it wasn't the Mira.
- 1:00:16He basically said the Mira is the car for many and and for
- 1:00:20many the Lamborghini story started with with the Mira but.
- 1:00:24But he had a different car. So go and listen and find out
- 1:00:26what that what that is. But so many people there.
- 1:00:28Your question for today. That's right, that's right.
- 1:00:32Yeah. I'd give you a Sheffield watch
- 1:00:33if I had one, but. We'll send you a that car show
- 1:00:37sticker. That's right.
- 1:00:39That's. Comment with him three if his
- 1:00:41choice then we will send you something.
- 1:00:43Yeah, you're feeling nasty. Yeah, yes, so, yeah, but saw so
- 1:00:47many friends, you know, there and elsewhere.
- 1:00:49Just some shout outs. John Wiley from Haggerty, an
- 1:00:52evaluation expert for Haggerty. Got to spend some time with him.
- 1:00:54Gooding auction. Great guy, really.
- 1:00:57Exactly who I thought he was going to be, which is always
- 1:00:59nice when you meet someone like that.
- 1:01:01John Chaldenko I saw briefly I. Know I met him.
- 1:01:05In person, at least not yeah, length.
- 1:01:07And he's again, exactly, you know, with his denim jacket and
- 1:01:10all that. Delightful, yeah.
- 1:01:11To be all, all sorts of people and we could sit here and talk
- 1:01:14about all the people we saw and all the people we missed.
- 1:01:16But but thanks to all who who put in an effort to to make our
- 1:01:20car week is wonderful again as it was because we're there just
- 1:01:25yeah, we say we're working, but there are people there who are
- 1:01:26really working, right. I mean, I would argue that we
- 1:01:29are as well, but it's different. It's it's so interesting to see
- 1:01:33what everybody's, what everyone's job or like what
- 1:01:38their goals are. And depending on what their
- 1:01:41goals are, that's what they're doing.
- 1:01:42You know, and I think we've said this before, like we've learned
- 1:01:45that live podcasts don't turn out as well as we would like to
- 1:01:50share with our audience. And so a lot of our focus is
- 1:01:54meeting as many people as we can, making connections.
- 1:01:56And so like, that's our focus. And other people, you know,
- 1:02:00they're writing or a combination of, or they're representing a
- 1:02:04brand or whatever it is. But yeah, it's everybody's doing
- 1:02:08different things, which keeps it interesting, too.
- 1:02:12Yeah. And I, you know, one of one of
- 1:02:14my favorite, one of my other favorite cars, I think my third
- 1:02:18favorite on the lawn was Princess Diana's 1987 Jaguar
- 1:02:22XJS, and it was AV 12 Cabriolet. And I was very lucky.
- 1:02:28I ran into my friend Jeff Houdin, who I think you met from
- 1:02:31Range Rover. That's right.
- 1:02:33Yeah. No, he's great.
- 1:02:34Right. And so I ran into him right when
- 1:02:35I was looking at the car. So that was really fun because
- 1:02:37he was able to tell me a little bit about the process and like
- 1:02:40working with Prince William to get that car and how that
- 1:02:44process was different from when they had the Queen's cars on
- 1:02:47display, you know, before. And like who in the royal family
- 1:02:52they had worked with for the Queen's cars versus obviously
- 1:02:54Diana is a different and just the whole process.
- 1:02:57So that was really fascinating because that's not something
- 1:03:00most of us are not communicating with members of the royal family
- 1:03:03as part of our day job. No, that's for that's for damn,
- 1:03:06for did that D type too, which I every time I see AD type, that's
- 1:03:10just that's a car that gets me going.
- 1:03:11They're just so, so special. They had a Jaguar had an amazing
- 1:03:15display of cars. There, they really did, Yeah.
- 1:03:18And they were, you know, and thank you to Jaguar for the
- 1:03:20hospitality because obviously been very lucky to become
- 1:03:24friends with Jessenia, who does PR for them.
- 1:03:27She works, you know, very closely with Jeff.
- 1:03:29He's officially Range Rover and she's officially Jaguar.
- 1:03:32But they do a lot together. And so we were hosted in the
- 1:03:37Jaguar Hospitality Suite, which was, that's right, just the most
- 1:03:40delightful respite. And got to have breakfast with
- 1:03:43Aaron Robinson from Haggerty. And Lynn was there, Bassam and
- 1:03:46Anna. And then we were on the lawn.
- 1:03:51I ran into our other previous guests, Trent Abbott.
- 1:03:54Oh, I missed Trent the whole week somehow, and he seemed to.
- 1:03:57Be everywhere he was. He was having the best time,
- 1:04:00yes, as he always does. And I got to.
- 1:04:03I'm going to break into that damn fraternity eventually.
- 1:04:06Well, and I was going to say we had a, if I do say so myself, we
- 1:04:10had a rather historic moment on the lawn at Pebble.
- 1:04:13For the first time ever, there was the largest ever gathering
- 1:04:16in person gathering of the PT Cruiser Spotters Anonymous
- 1:04:20group. There were five of us in one
- 1:04:21place, so it was trying, which is.
- 1:04:24Just a cover group for the real. It really is.
- 1:04:26Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 1:04:28And John Nicholas and TG, who you know from the Grand.
- 1:04:32Oh, sure. Yeah.
- 1:04:32We'll see. Yeah, so that was really fun.
- 1:04:34And then I don't know if our listeners know about Old Yeller.
- 1:04:39It was basically a homemade race car that cleaned up.
- 1:04:42And my dad knows the owners, Ernie and Elaine Nagabatsu.
- 1:04:46And Ernie was actually in a pretty bad accident in the last
- 1:04:48couple years in Australia racing the car.
- 1:04:51So it was really wonderful. Like it was great to meet them
- 1:04:53in person, but especially special because Ernie is doing
- 1:04:57phenomenally was climbing in out of the car, starting it on the
- 1:05:00lawn. You know, I got to chat with
- 1:05:02Elaine for a bit and it was just really a treat to meet them.
- 1:05:06And Ernie used to be into Herbie cars, so he actually knows Tori
- 1:05:11from way before. So it was just such a small
- 1:05:14world. And then I have to give an extra
- 1:05:17special shout out to my friend Lynn Heiner, who she's Lynn
- 1:05:21Heiner Cars on Instagram. Check out her work if you
- 1:05:23haven't. She does these really beautiful
- 1:05:26automotive themed big pieces. She's a painter.
- 1:05:30She always has a display in the retro auto tent at the Concord
- 1:05:35Village. And when I went to pick up my
- 1:05:39media credentials for a Pebble, we stopped in to say hi to her,
- 1:05:42my daughter and I. And she's just so to the earth,
- 1:05:45one of those just lovely people that really exemplifies the car
- 1:05:48community. You know, when somebody says to
- 1:05:51me, and I know to you too, of like, I'm not into cars.
- 1:05:53I don't get it. And I always say it's about the
- 1:05:55people. And she just was so incredibly
- 1:05:58kind to my daughter. We had a lovely conversation and
- 1:06:02I walked away. And I'm like, that she is the
- 1:06:03definition of when I say it's the people like Lynn is it?
- 1:06:07So go check out her work Lynn Heiner cars on Instagram.
- 1:06:11Just amazing and just really a highlight of the week.
- 1:06:14And you know, we walked away and my daughter said she's my new
- 1:06:16best friend. And it was that's.
- 1:06:18Awesome. Some some people have that gift.
- 1:06:21Yeah, no, I I think it's her PR person reached out about coming
- 1:06:25on the show. So hopefully gonna make that
- 1:06:26happen. Perfect.
- 1:06:27Boy do we have some amazing guests coming in the next few
- 1:06:29weeks, like childhood hero type people, right.
- 1:06:32So more to come, you know, and obviously shout out to Dan.
- 1:06:36Dan was not with us this week in.
- 1:06:39No, he was definitely. With us in for sure, very, very
- 1:06:43much. Yeah.
- 1:06:43We just, you know, it's so special that we're part of this
- 1:06:46community and, you know, it's, yeah, it's, it's, it's, it's,
- 1:06:51it's a it's a big world, but it's a small world, you know,
- 1:06:54and it's just something my Grandma Betty would say.
- 1:06:56But that's, it is, it's so true. You get there and it's a ton of
- 1:06:59people. And yet you see all these
- 1:07:01people. Thank you to the people who
- 1:07:02come, who came up, listeners of the show who I hadn't met
- 1:07:05before, just to say they listened to the show to say hi.
- 1:07:08Shame on you for those people who reached out later and said I
- 1:07:10saw you when I you know, and I said you should have come over
- 1:07:12and said hello. But.
- 1:07:13You know you're a big deal because they're like, well.
- 1:07:16Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's on that car show.
- 1:07:18We can't possibly, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:20They weren't lining up, but there were a handful of them and
- 1:07:22that was fun. And and, you know, I'll still
- 1:07:24never get over the thrill of, of, of, you know, having someone
- 1:07:26come up and say how much they, they like the show, appreciate
- 1:07:28what you do. And and yeah, you know, for once
- 1:07:30in my life, you know, to hear that right, that's it's fun.
- 1:07:34So it's always interesting. I know so many people we could,
- 1:07:37we could go on and on about it. So many things that we didn't
- 1:07:39get to, didn't really talk about the track, which I want to hear
- 1:07:42about. So maybe next?
- 1:07:42Week, I know it was really fun. Well, and one thing I will say
- 1:07:45quickly is in the Jaguar suite, they had their new type O1,
- 1:07:50which is coming out in October and I got to actually sit in it,
- 1:07:54you know, sort of experience it in person for the first time.
- 1:07:57And it's I would say I think the cabin is lovely.
- 1:08:01It's interesting because it has no back window like the Pulsar 4
- 1:08:05and you know there's other vehicles too, but that's that's
- 1:08:09a a big topic of conversation. It was a topic of conversation
- 1:08:12with, you know, when we were eating breakfast.
- 1:08:15I think it's going to be interesting to see how many cars
- 1:08:17continue to go that way because it's such a departure from how
- 1:08:20we're used to driving. But it was yeah, it's I'm
- 1:08:25curious who it was designed for. It felt very much like a
- 1:08:28chauffeured situation sitting in the back.
- 1:08:30Seat I got it was very. Like cocoonish, but in a nice
- 1:08:36way, like you felt very held and protected and it was very
- 1:08:40serene. I got to sit in the driver's
- 1:08:43seat. That felt great, you know?
- 1:08:45So it'll be, it'll be fun to see that when it actually comes out
- 1:08:48and start to see it on the road. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:50Long live Jaguar. Exactly.
- 1:08:53Damn, but kill me for that pronunciation.
- 1:08:56Well, I have to run because I am off to see a concert of Eastern
- 1:08:59European folk music. Since I ever expected to hear
- 1:09:02but I love that journey for. You we have these wonderful
- 1:09:06concerts in the neighborhood. We're very fortunate.
- 1:09:08You know, they're in someone's front yard and you know, one
- 1:09:10week it can be or pop music, the next week it's classical or
- 1:09:14jazz. Well, this week it's Eastern
- 1:09:15European folk music by a group that all all in folk regalia.
- 1:09:18So it will be nice, but I hate being the last one to walk in.
- 1:09:22Right, you cannot be late to the Eastern folk music.
- 1:09:25Concert. That's right, the babushkas will
- 1:09:27be angry. We don't want that.
- 1:09:30All right, great show, fun to talk, you know, car week and if
- 1:09:33you're listening and you you're thinking about doing car, just
- 1:09:36do it. Don't wait.
- 1:09:36It's only going to get more expensive and more exclusive.
- 1:09:39Just just go and do it. Be a part of it, you'll be
- 1:09:42welcome. There's nothing to be scared of,
- 1:09:44it's just it'll be the best week of of your year so.
- 1:09:47It might be the largest group of the most welcoming people you'll
- 1:09:50ever run across. It's like showing up for family
- 1:09:53reunion for a family you didn't know you had.
- 1:09:56Right. And every and and there's no
- 1:09:57drama. No, there's no drama because
- 1:10:00everyone's in a great mood. Everybody's just happy to be
- 1:10:02there. I know.
- 1:10:03And if you see us, obviously say hi, please.
- 1:10:06Yeah, we're we're so happy that everybody's here.
- 1:10:09We appreciate you listening and leaving a five star review and
- 1:10:12telling your enthusiast friends about us.
- 1:10:14And remember, always be driving. We're that car show and we'll
- 1:10:18see you next week.
