- 0:00Speaker 1: Friday, everybody. It's 106.7 Light FM. Cubby and Christine in
- 0:03Speaker 1: the morning. We have a long-distance phone call, Christine. We do.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Direct to Hollywood and our friend Harry Medved from the
- 0:09Speaker 1: Cinema Foundation. Good morning, Harry. Hey, Cubby. Hey, Christine. Good morning. Morning.
- 0:14Speaker 1: So you're going to let us know what's new in
- 0:16Speaker 1: theaters this weekend? Well, I'll tell you what's new is
- 0:18Speaker 1: that there's something for everyone this weekend. You've got three
- 0:21Speaker 1: big movies that are opening. One of them is actually
- 0:23Speaker 1: a re-release, which is Avengers Endgame in Infinity Vision. So
- 0:27Speaker 1: people are going to go back and see that film,
- 0:29Speaker 1: even though they've already seen it because they're preparing for,
- 0:32Speaker 1: of course, Avengers Doomsday. That could be the number one
- 0:35Speaker 1: film of the weekend. But the other two are Heart
- 0:37Speaker 1: of the Beast with Brad Pitt and An Incredible Dog.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And prime time with Robert Pattinson. And about the Brad
- 0:43Speaker 1: Pitt movie, people were saying, you know, this film, I
- 0:46Speaker 1: think it was Stephen Elliott's time out, said it features
- 0:49Speaker 1: an incredibly daring hunk with a great mane of hair
- 0:52Speaker 1: and soulful eyes. They said, but enough about the dog.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Let's talk about Brad Pitt. The dog is really the
- 0:58Speaker 1: star of this film. He completely steals every scene. It's
- 1:01Speaker 1: a survival tale of this special forces fighter who is
- 1:05Speaker 1: trapped with his combat dog in the wilds of Alaska.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And I'll tell you, the CGI on this is pretty
- 1:10Speaker 1: amazing because it is a beautiful survival tale. It's a
- 1:13Speaker 1: beautiful film. I don't know how they did it, but
- 1:16Speaker 1: definitely worth seeing up on the big screen. And Prime
- 1:18Speaker 1: Time is pretty much of a dark thriller with comic
- 1:21Speaker 1: overtones with Robert Pattinson. Hard to believe it's been 18
- 1:24Speaker 1: years since this guy... came up on the scene in Twilight,
- 1:28Speaker 1: but boy, what a year Robert Pattinson has had, right?
- 1:30Speaker 1: I mean, in The Odyssey and the drama, and he's
- 1:33Speaker 1: going to be in Dune 3 coming up in a
- 1:35Speaker 1: few weeks, which I'm seeing next week. It's a crazy
- 1:38Speaker 1: year for Robert Pattinson, but he has turned into such
- 1:41Speaker 1: a great villain. I never thought the guy had it
- 1:43Speaker 1: in him. But he's wonderful, of course, in the Odyssey,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and he's terrific in this one, too. But what I'm
- 1:47Speaker 1: also excited about is New Jersey is definitely having a
- 1:51Speaker 1: moment on the big screen. First of all, you know,
- 1:53Speaker 1: my friends at the Cranford Theatre in Cranford, New Jersey,
- 1:56Speaker 1: they're going to be celebrating their 100th year anniversary on
- 1:59Speaker 1: November 9th. So hopefully I'll be in New York and
- 2:01Speaker 1: we'll see you guys if you guys have time on
- 2:03Speaker 1: that date. Yeah. Wonderful. And there's two big movies that
- 2:05Speaker 1: I just saw in Toronto. that are going to be
- 2:08Speaker 1: playing there because they're both shot in New Jersey. One
- 2:10Speaker 1: is I Play Rocky, which is the story of how
- 2:14Speaker 1: the movie Rocky was made with a brand new guy
- 2:18Speaker 1: playing Sylvester Stallone. It's terrific. Shot in New Jersey. The
- 2:22Speaker 1: other one I saw in Toronto is called The Debut,
- 2:25Speaker 1: written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg and starring Julianne Moore
- 2:28Speaker 1: and Paul Giamatti about a housewife who wants to become
- 2:32Speaker 1: an actress in New Jersey and It takes place a
- 2:35Speaker 1: while back. It's fantastic. Julianne Moore just knocks it out
- 2:39Speaker 1: of the park. And she is without a doubt going
- 2:42Speaker 1: to be the front runner for best actress at the Oscars,
- 2:44Speaker 1: I think. Wow. Yeah. I did see a preview and
- 2:46Speaker 1: it looks really, really wonderful. Oh, it's so up your alley.
- 2:49Speaker 1: It's a musical too. It's, it's, it's fun. You know,
- 2:51Speaker 1: it's about community theater players and she's so good at
- 2:55Speaker 1: playing so bad. It's hard to be a a bad actor,
- 2:59Speaker 1: but she, you know, makes, she grows. Paul Giamatti is
- 3:01Speaker 1: the theater director who teaches her how to put a
- 3:04Speaker 1: little bit more oomph into her performance. She's just terrific.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Also up for best actor that I saw in Toronto,
- 3:10Speaker 1: Andrew Scott playing Ian Charlson, the guy from Chariots of Fire,
- 3:15Speaker 1: who is sadly dying of AIDS in the 80s and
- 3:18Speaker 1: trying to hide it while he's playing Hamlet on the stage.
- 3:21Speaker 1: It's a movie called Elsinore. Whoa. He's absolutely amazing. Andrew
- 3:25Speaker 1: Scott has never been nominated for an Oscar. He should
- 3:27Speaker 1: have had one. He's so good. A few years ago,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and he is so good. And this film has to
- 3:31Speaker 1: be seen. It's called Elsinore. Wow, okay. For both his features.
- 3:34Speaker 1: The same guys who did Hamlet last year. So I
- 3:36Speaker 1: think it's a tradition that every year they're going to
- 3:38Speaker 1: have a movie based on Hamlet that will be up
- 3:40Speaker 1: for the Oscars. I think they had last year. And
- 3:42Speaker 1: they should win. Yes, exactly. I would just recommend, if
- 3:46Speaker 1: you ever have a chance to go to the Toronto
- 3:48Speaker 1: Film Festival, it is the best festival there is because
- 3:52Speaker 1: it's so democratic. Everyone can go. Any of these... There's
- 3:56Speaker 1: no hierarchy there. And you have movie stars standing in
- 4:00Speaker 1: line with regular people like me. And it's just a
- 4:03Speaker 1: hell of a lot of fun. That sounds like a
- 4:04Speaker 1: great experience. I would love to do that. Well, Harry,
- 4:07Speaker 1: always a pleasure. Thank you so much. And we'll see
- 4:10Speaker 1: you at the movies. Thanks so much, Cubby. Thanks, Christy.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Thank you, Harry.
