- 0:00Chapter 5 of Posea Dear God, please be with us as we read
- 0:06through this. Have the Holy Spirit give us
- 0:08revelation and insight and application to our own lives.
- 0:13We ask for this in Jesus name. So chapter 5, I did read this
- 0:19and it's not that long. We'll probably go through it
- 0:21fairly quickly. I will read through it then I
- 0:24will go through the questions and answers.
- 0:26And after reading it the first time, I had lots of questions.
- 0:31So I did additional research and we'll get into some history
- 0:35after that. So let's get started.
- 0:38Judgement against Israel. Hear this, you priest.
- 0:42Pay attention. You Israelites listen, Royal
- 0:45house, this judgement is against you.
- 0:48You have been a snare at Mizpah, a net spread out on Tabor.
- 0:54The rebels are knee deep in slaughter.
- 0:56I will discipline all of them. I know all about Ephraim.
- 1:02OK? That's where it started for me.
- 1:04I know all about Ephraim. And I was like, what about
- 1:07Ephraim? That's where we get into the
- 1:09history. We'll do that later.
- 1:12Israel is not hidden from me. Ephraim, you have now turned to
- 1:16prostitution. Israel is corrupt.
- 1:20Their deeds do not permit them to return to their God.
- 1:25So that's really interesting. Their deeds do not permit them
- 1:29to return to God. I'm wondering if that's
- 1:31spiritual. That's verse 4A.
- 1:35Spirit of prostitution is in their heart.
- 1:39They do not acknowledge the Lord.
- 1:42So I do think that there is a spiritual either we have the
- 1:47Holy Spirit or we are susceptible to evil spiritual
- 1:54influence or idolatrous influence.
- 1:58And in our lives we're in rebellion to God until we
- 2:02surrender to Him. That's what the Bible tells us.
- 2:07So Israel's arrogance testifies against them.
- 2:10The Israelites, even Ephraim, stumble in their Soon Judah also
- 2:15stumbles with them. So I will read that part of the
- 2:20question and answer just to clarify this right now.
- 2:23Why single out Ephraim for punishment when all Israel had
- 2:26sinned? Ephraim sin was particularly
- 2:29terrible because they conspired with Syria to overthrow Judah in
- 2:34a war that led to the devastation of both Israel and
- 2:38Judah. By consorting in this alliance
- 2:41with a foreign Pagan power, Ephraim betrayed its birthright
- 2:47and forsook its special relationship with the Lord.
- 2:50I think that's pretty significant, and that's what I
- 2:53get into with the history that I looked up and I will read later.
- 2:59We'll go back to Scripture. Right now.
- 3:01When they go with their flocks and herds to seek the Lord, they
- 3:04will not find him. He has withdrawn himself from
- 3:08them. They are unfaithful to the Lord.
- 3:11They give birth to illegitimate children.
- 3:14So when I said He has withdrawn himself from them, I think
- 3:17that's a consequence of our decisions, like if we don't love
- 3:21God back, if we don't submit to him, if we reject him, he
- 3:25doesn't force it. And that's, you know, that's
- 3:30what I read into this. OK, when they celebrate their
- 3:34new moon feast, he will devour their fields, sound the trumpet
- 3:39in Gibeah, the horn in Rama, raise the battle cry in Beth
- 3:45Avon, lead on Benjamin Ephraim will be laid waste on the day of
- 3:51reckoning. So listened.
- 3:54I mean like on the day of reckoning.
- 3:56Is this a one time or is this at the end?
- 4:02On the day of reckoning, it could be a, an early judgement
- 4:07or it could be like end times. I wonder.
- 4:11I mean, I know for sure they're talking about the judgement when
- 4:17they are captured by Assyria. But I don't know if this also
- 4:23implies a further date. You know, sometimes there's a
- 4:26foreshadowing of future events in these.
- 4:29So it could be both. It could be both, you know, at
- 4:32this moment and then in the future too.
- 4:34I'm not sure. I proclaim what is certain,
- 4:38Judah's leader. Leaders are like those who move
- 4:41boundary stones. I will pour out my wrath on them
- 4:45like a flood of water. Ephraim is oppressed, trampled
- 4:49in judgement, intent on pursuing idols.
- 4:54I am like a moth to Ephraim. Now that's something that's
- 4:59interesting. The moth, which I really didn't
- 5:02look into, but I should look into that because like a moth I
- 5:06I don't know if it really covers that in the study Bible, like
- 5:10wrought to the people of Judah when Ephraim, I guess a moth
- 5:16does eat like clothes. So maybe that's it, like
- 5:19destruction when Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah his sores.
- 5:24Then Ephraim turned to Assyria and sent to the great king for
- 5:30help. So when I read this, that's why
- 5:31I questioned it. I'm like, what happened here?
- 5:34But he is not able to cure you, not able to heal your sores.
- 5:39For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, like a great lion to
- 5:44Judah. I will tear them to pieces and
- 5:47go away. I will carry them off with no
- 5:50one to rescue them. Then I will return to my lair
- 5:54until they have borne their guilt and seek my face.
- 6:01So God knows that eventually they will turn to him.
- 6:07It says in their misery, they will earnestly seek me.
- 6:10So that's really what happens to a lot of us.
- 6:12We may reject God, reject God, reject God and just, you know,
- 6:17not even like in a, in a way that we openly do that not like
- 6:22saying we don't want you God, but just saying it by our
- 6:26actions, like actions are stronger than our words.
- 6:29So if we are disobedient to God's commands, we are
- 6:32ultimately rejecting him. We are just saying no, God, I
- 6:36don't want that. I don't want that in my life.
- 6:38I want to do what I want to do. And that's rebellion to God.
- 6:43And that's what he's talking about with the people of Ephraim
- 6:47and Judah. I mean, like all of Israel, he's
- 6:49talking about that and that applies to all of us because if
- 6:53we are not surrendered or submitted to God and doing God's
- 6:56will, we are currently in rebellion.
- 6:59If that's our situation, and many of us don't know that
- 7:04didn't like, I didn't realize that until after reading the
- 7:07Bible. Then I understood that I was in
- 7:10rebellion to God and I still profess the name of godfather
- 7:16and son. You know, I still, I had, I
- 7:18called myself a Christian. I that's what is so concerning
- 7:24about reading the Bible is that just because you may go to
- 7:29church, you may say you believe, doesn't mean that you were in a
- 7:33good relationship with God. And it's a personal
- 7:37relationship. And some of the things that we
- 7:39do unknowingly are, I think we're just deceived by the
- 7:46enemy. We're in the spiritual warfare
- 7:49and the enemy of God seeks to destroy us.
- 7:53And he does it in a very crafty way.
- 7:57He's very manipulative because he does, he draws us in with
- 8:01something that appeals to us. But what it does is it's against
- 8:06God and then it will eventually destroy us.
- 8:09And if we are unaware of our enemy, we can't fight it off and
- 8:14on our own. We can't fight it off.
- 8:16That's why we need God. We need the Holy Spirit in order
- 8:20to battle a spiritual warfare against us because the enemy is
- 8:26continually seeking people to destroy them.
- 8:31And he doesn't come like this horrible destructive force where
- 8:37everybody would say, I don't want any of that.
- 8:39He comes in with very appealing things in a variety of ways,
- 8:46something that, you know, especially what they talk about
- 8:49in here is like seducing ways like prostitution and things
- 8:56like that. Like think about all the the the
- 8:59images that you know, we have today, like the things the the
- 9:05way people operate on social media in a very lustful way that
- 9:11will draw the attention. Well, that's not is that of God.
- 9:14I mean, you can look at things after you've have discernment
- 9:19and see right through them when you're seeing what spirit is
- 9:23active in a person. If a person is very like sensual
- 9:28and alluring and all that stuff in there, you know, to everyone
- 9:34out in the world. I mean, that is not a spirit of
- 9:37God because that is not the way God is.
- 9:42That's that's not that doesn't represent holiness.
- 9:45It doesn't also mean that God created, you know, the sensual
- 9:51sexual side of everything for a husband and wife relationship.
- 9:55Like God is not against that, but he wants it in a, an
- 10:00intimate relationship between one man, one woman.
- 10:03And ultimately that symbolically indicates the type of
- 10:10relationship that God wants with us, like a very intimate
- 10:13relationship, a very close intimate personal relationship
- 10:17with us, where we talk to him, we go to him with everything.
- 10:22We realize that he is the provider, even if we are married
- 10:27then and we think that our spouse contributes to, you know,
- 10:32our our well-being. Ultimately it's God, a God
- 10:36enabled that person, that spouse or ourselves, whatever to do
- 10:42what we do. So ultimately, all the good
- 10:44comes from God. And we often don't realize that
- 10:48pride gets in the way and we start thinking we did it, but we
- 10:51didn't do it. God did it for us.
- 10:53And eventually when you read the Bible, you realize that that
- 10:58it's not us, it is from God. Anyway, kind of went on a
- 11:04tangent there. So I'm going to go through the
- 11:06questions and answers and then I'll get into some of the
- 11:07history that kind of brought came to mind as I read through
- 11:14this. So a few, first of all, before I
- 11:17get into the questions, a few things that stood out was like
- 11:20this spiritual part, the spirit of prostitution is in their
- 11:23heart. Their deeds do not permit them
- 11:26to return to their God. There's something spiritual that
- 11:30we don't really fully understand.
- 11:33And I don't know that God really wants us to understand the
- 11:36workings of the spiritual realm, but he points those things out
- 11:40through prophets that you know, we are there.
- 11:45It's very clear that we are in a spiritual battle battle when you
- 11:49read through Scripture and let's see what else did I I underlined
- 11:57was then I will OK, so after God, you know, allows all this
- 12:03destruction for them, then I will return to my lair until
- 12:06they have borne their guilt and seek my face in their misery.
- 12:10They will earnestly seek me. And so guilt comes upon a person
- 12:15because God has written in our hearts He is in internally as
- 12:22his as one that He has created something he puts inside of us
- 12:28that we eventually at some point in our life question or maybe
- 12:33start to seek Him. And often that happens when we
- 12:36get to a very difficult or terrible situation in our life.
- 12:42That's often when people turn to the Lord and we can see that
- 12:45through Scripture as well. And so he's patient and allows
- 12:51people on their own path to get there.
- 12:55But there is a time where this is just going to God has an
- 13:01appointed time when Jesus is going to return.
- 13:05And at that time it says it'll come upon us like a thief in the
- 13:09night, like we're not going to know exactly when that's going
- 13:15to happen. And so it talks about those who
- 13:18are prepared. You know, blessed are those who
- 13:21are prepared and who can stand when Jesus returns.
- 13:25When we are not in rebellion, like if we are in rebellion,
- 13:29when Jesus returns, we will go through, we will be subject to
- 13:34God's wrath. If we are not in rebellion, we
- 13:37will be gathered to Him and protected during God's wrath.
- 13:42So there is a personal benefit and we shouldn't seek it for
- 13:47that. But if that's what it takes to
- 13:50start the relationship with God, you know it has to start
- 13:53somewhere, right? But the point is, there's a lot
- 13:58of weird stuff happening in the world, and whether this is a
- 14:01foreshadowing of something that will happen years later, we
- 14:04don't know. But I just personally don't
- 14:08think it's a good time to be a risk taker.
- 14:13I don't want to be a risk taker with my eternity.
- 14:17It's important enough to me that everything here on earth can,
- 14:22you know, it's not as important as eternity for me.
- 14:27And I've gotten to that point. It took me a long time.
- 14:29And that's the other reason why I feel kind of urgent to say
- 14:32this to people because I know my own path, my own journey, my own
- 14:37walk to true faith took a long time.
- 14:41It didn't happen overnight and it's still growing and
- 14:44continuing. And so I look at that some
- 14:46people have these radical changes.
- 14:48I did not. It was a gradual thing for me.
- 14:52And so then I get concerned about other people.
- 14:54I'm like, what if it takes them a really long time to come to a
- 14:57true relationship with God? Where we seek God for guidance
- 15:03every single day we're in God's word every single day because it
- 15:06says that we must remain connected to the vine in a
- 15:10symbolic sense and the vine is Jesus and Jesus is the the Bible
- 15:16is the living word. So that's how we stay connected
- 15:20and also through prayer, daily prayer, daily conversations with
- 15:26God, it says, you know, pray without ceasing.
- 15:29We should be in communication with God all day long, you know,
- 15:33just like we would a loved one that we stay in contact with.
- 15:37That's what we should be doing with God.
- 15:40And if we're not doing that, we don't have a relationship with
- 15:43God. Or maybe we have a relationship
- 15:45with God, but it's a distant one.
- 15:47And I don't want to be that distant one that when Jesus
- 15:51returns, he says depart from me. I never knew you.
- 15:54Like you can't keep a relationship with someone if you
- 15:58never talked to them. And that's what God is seeking
- 16:02from us. Like he loves us, He keeps
- 16:04pursuing us, but he gives us free will so we don't have to
- 16:08accept his love and we can stay in our rebellion.
- 16:12But he warns us, the Bible warns us, if you stay in your
- 16:14rebellion, it's going to be pretty bad for you.
- 16:18But turn to God and he has all of this beautiful inheritance of
- 16:23in his Kingdom that he has planned and he tries to reach
- 16:28people, all of us, and let us know that this is what is in the
- 16:32future for us. But we often are blindsided by
- 16:39the immediate alluring deception of his enemy that doesn't want
- 16:44us to inherit it, inherit this. And it's like the enemy wants us
- 16:48to, you know, think about Yolo. You only live once and think
- 16:53about let's, you know, like in the Greek thing, seize the day
- 16:56like, you know, take this, you know, like carpe diem.
- 17:00I mean, those are enemy things where it's just like, you know,
- 17:03live for the day and, and just like do everything that you want
- 17:09to do. It's very like self seeking.
- 17:11But no, the Bible tells us think about eternity.
- 17:15Yes, live every day to the fullest and don't worry about
- 17:19tomorrow. Tomorrow will take care of
- 17:21itself. Put our trust in God.
- 17:23And yes, we should live fully every single day, but we
- 17:26shouldn't live recklessly. We shouldn't live in a way that
- 17:31God says this is not good for you.
- 17:33This is not what I want you to do.
- 17:35So if our lives are living in that way, then we are in a very
- 17:41risky position in regards to our eternity and it's time to get
- 17:48serious about eternity. OK, let's go back to questions
- 17:53and answers. What happened at Mizpah and
- 17:56Tabor? The Israelites bowed down to
- 17:59false gods and were knee deep in slaughter.
- 18:03These centers of idolatry were condemned as places that
- 18:08ensnared the people like a wild animal ensnares its prey and LED
- 18:12them into great apostasy. Does God ever hide from us?
- 18:18Our sinful deeds and our arrogance become like a wall
- 18:23separating us from God. OK, so that's what the enemy
- 18:28does. The enemy like, puts sinful
- 18:30things in front of us so that we latch onto that and also tells
- 18:34us to elevate ourselves, like have arrogance, have pride.
- 18:41The things that are against God stress pride.
- 18:45Pride in all these different ways, like our world, you know,
- 18:50puts pride in a very good light. But the Bible talks about pride
- 18:56is one of the things that God hates.
- 18:59He hates haughty eyes, the proud look.
- 19:02That is not what, that is not a characteristic or a character
- 19:08trait that God says is good. Pride is not good.
- 19:12In fact, pride separates us from God.
- 19:15Pride is all about me, me, me. And it's not a selfless, a self,
- 19:20you know, like towards God, a loving.
- 19:23It's not a loving thing at all. It's all about selfishness
- 19:27rather than selflessness. And it doesn't mean that you
- 19:30don't care for yourself. Of course we care for ourselves
- 19:34because we are created by God. We want to do the best we can
- 19:38with what God gave us and take care of ourselves and be healthy
- 19:45and you know, take care of everything that God's given us
- 19:49to. As the Bible calls steward to
- 19:52take care of all the things that we have, all of our possessions
- 19:55that we have borrowed from God, We should take care of that.
- 19:59And our we are considered a temple of the Lord.
- 20:03Like our bodies, the Holy Spirit resides within us when we
- 20:06receive the Holy Spirit. So we need to take care of our
- 20:09bodies too. So it's not to leave ourselves
- 20:15on a. Unkempt.
- 20:18It's not that, but it's that we don't just think about
- 20:22everything in terms of ourselves.
- 20:24Like yes, we take care of ourselves, but that's our not
- 20:27our primary focus. We're thinking about other
- 20:29people. That's what that's the God
- 20:31character is about others, everything about others, not
- 20:35about our self. And so our sinful deeds and our
- 20:40arrogance are our selfishness, our pride.
- 20:44They come like a wall separating us from God.
- 20:47Until we repent of such sinful behavior, behaviors and
- 20:52attitudes, fellowship with God is impossible.
- 20:56So this is the part where if we are in sin and we are pride, it
- 21:01we are prideful, that means we don't have a relationship with
- 21:04God. Even if we say we believe in
- 21:07Him, we don't have a relationship with him.
- 21:10And it says fellowship with God is impossible.
- 21:13So we don't, we don't have a relationship.
- 21:15Think about that in human terms, like with another person.
- 21:19If they are all about themselves and they do things that you
- 21:24don't like all the time, do you really like them?
- 21:27Do you really enjoy being with them?
- 21:30Do you have a good relationship with that person?
- 21:32If they're all about themselves and they do all these sorts of
- 21:35things that you've told them you don't like but they keep doing
- 21:38it over and over, what kind of a relationship do you have?
- 21:42I would say none. Not much of one anyway.
- 21:47That would be us with God when we sin and when we are prideful.
- 21:52But when we seek God with repentant hearts, we will find
- 21:55him. He doesn't stay away from us
- 21:57when we have repentance. We say we don't want to do that
- 22:00anymore. Like, yes, I recognize I did
- 22:03that, but I don't want it anymore.
- 22:04God, you know, help me change. Please send me the Holy Spirit.
- 22:09That's the whole, that's that's the power to overcome.
- 22:13That's what grace is. Grace is the Holy Spirit, the
- 22:16power of God coming into our lives.
- 22:19So who were these illegitimate children?
- 22:21Judah and Israel had been called God's beloved children, so to
- 22:26call them illegitimate was to severely condemn them.
- 22:31Hosea was continuing the metaphor of marital infidelity
- 22:35to describe the nation's apostasy.
- 22:39So then there's this phrase that talks about sound.
- 22:41The trumpet and gibeah, the horn and Rhema raise the battle cry,
- 22:46and Beth Avon lead on Benjamin. Ephraim will be laid to rest on
- 22:50waste on the day of reckoning. So where were these places?
- 22:54This verse describes an invasion of the territory of Benjamin
- 22:58from the South. As these cities lay in sequence
- 23:02on a straight line due north of Jerusalem, so the advancement
- 23:07would have been on the main mountain Rd. from Jerusalem into
- 23:11Ephraim. Beth Avon is another name
- 23:14probably derogatory for Bethel. So Beth Avon means the House of
- 23:20wickedness, and it's a derogatory name for Bethel,
- 23:24which means the House of God. So what was meant by moving
- 23:28boundary stones? Judah's legal system, like
- 23:32Israel's, had become thoroughly corrupt.
- 23:35Hosea accused the leaders of cheating others and stealing
- 23:38their land by changing the boundary lines.
- 23:41Their actions would have been like someone today altering A
- 23:44deed or purchase agreement in order to get more property.
- 23:48But Hosea's implications were even broader.
- 23:51These leaders were ignoring their civic responsibilities and
- 23:54forgetting their ultimate accountability to God.
- 23:59When did Ephraim turn to Assyria?
- 24:01Ephraim was a dominant tribe in the northern Kingdom of Israel
- 24:06that one of the 10 tribes in the northern Kingdom called Israel
- 24:09and their capital was Samaria and it's name was often used to
- 24:14describe the whole nation. When Pool, king of Assyria
- 24:18invaded Israel, King Menahem sought to pay him off with a
- 24:23tribute. You can find that in Second
- 24:26Kings chapter 15 verses 19 through 20.
- 24:29In a sense, Menahem brought protection from the very nation
- 24:34that was invading Israel, and although Assyria withdrew
- 24:37temporarily, Israel was left with a horrendous tax burden.
- 24:44So that's what the study Bible gives us for the for this part.
- 24:49Now I'm going to get into the historical part and the part
- 24:53that I was questioning. And so I had to look up certain
- 24:56things. So I'm going to read some things
- 24:59to you that I found that are interesting.
- 25:01So I wanted to find out about Ephraim.
- 25:05So I looked up that in the Bible the alliance between Syria, also
- 25:12known as Aram, and Ephraim, the northern Kingdom of Israel
- 25:17against Judah occurred in the 8th century BCE, specifically
- 25:25during the reign of King Ahaz of Judah.
- 25:29This event is known as the Siro Ephraimite War.
- 25:34The conflict is detailed in Second Kings chapter 16, Second
- 25:38Chronicles chapter 28, and Isaiah chapters 7 through 8.
- 25:44The war's primary cause was the rising power of the Assyrian
- 25:48Empire. Syria and Israel, seeking to
- 25:52resist Assyrian domination, formed an alliance to try to
- 25:57force and tried to force Judah to join them.
- 26:03When A has refused, they invaded Judah, attempting to replace him
- 26:09with the more amenable ruler. The conflict is significant
- 26:13because it also highlights the prophetic role of Isaiah, who
- 26:17advised A has to trust in God rather than seeking foreign
- 26:23alliances. However, A has ultimately turned
- 26:28to Assyria for help setting the stage for future Assyrian
- 26:32intervention mention in the region.
- 26:35So God is he, gosh, he warns about this.
- 26:41And and that was something that, you know, I just wanted a little
- 26:46bit more detail. Then I after that part, I
- 26:50started thinking, OK, so you know, there's these two
- 26:55kingdoms, there's the 10 tribes in the north and then there's
- 26:57Judah and both of them get taken off into captivity.
- 27:02And so now who is modern day Israel?
- 27:07And Israel became a state in 1948.
- 27:13So I looked that up and I wanted to, and this was just like a
- 27:17Google search, OK, So I wanted to see like what are the things
- 27:22that led to the creation of Israel on May 14th, 1948.
- 27:27And so this is what I found. I will read this to you.
- 27:31The creation of the modern state of Israel on May 14th 1948 was
- 27:36the culmination of several historical events and movement.
- 27:40Key factors that led to the establishment of Israel include
- 27:45Zionist movement beginning in the 19th century.
- 27:49This movement advocated for the re establishment of a Jewish
- 27:53homeland in Palestine which had a historical and religious
- 27:59significance for Jews. We're going to have to get into
- 28:03the name Palestine in a moment because that's really important,
- 28:08Important also Balfour Declaration.
- 28:12So this is another moment. Balfour Declaration.
- 28:14In 1917, the British government issued this declaration
- 28:20expressing support for the creation of a national home for
- 28:25the Jewish people in Palestine. British Mandate after World War
- 28:31One, Britain was granted control of Palestine by the League of
- 28:36Nations and was tasked with implementing the Balfour
- 28:40Declaration. The Holocaust, The horrific
- 28:43genocide of the Jews during World War 2, created widespread
- 28:47international sympathy for the creation of a Jewish state to
- 28:52address the issue of Jewish homelessness and provide refuge.
- 28:57UN Partition Plan In 1947, the United Nations passed Resolution
- 29:03181, which recommended the partition of Palestine into
- 29:08separate Arab and Jewish states, with Jerusalem to be under
- 29:14international administration. Declaration of Independence and
- 29:19the 1948 War In accordance with the UN resolution and upon the
- 29:25termination of the British Mandate, David Ben Gurion
- 29:29declared the establishment of the State of Israel on May 14th,
- 29:341948. This declaration triggered the
- 29:381948 Arab Israeli War, where Israel successfully defended
- 29:45itself against invading Arab armies.
- 29:49In essence, a confluence of historical movements,
- 29:53international political decisions and event like like
- 29:57the Holocaust created the circumstances leading to the
- 30:00establishment of Israel as a nation.
- 30:05So there's a lot there to absorb, a lot of details.
- 30:10And I want to talk about the name of Palestine 1st, and then
- 30:16we'll get into more of the details of things.
- 30:19So the name of Palestine, the name Palestine has a complex
- 30:24history rooted in ancient times and evolving through various
- 30:28empires and administrations. It originates from the
- 30:33Philistines, an ancient people who inhabited the coastal region
- 30:39of the of the Levant. The Romans later adopted the
- 30:44name Palestina to designate the region, and it continued to be
- 30:50used, albeit informally, after the Roman Empires fall.
- 30:55The name was revived officially with the British Mandate for
- 31:00Palestine after World War One. Here's a more detailed
- 31:05breakdown. Ancient origins.
- 31:07The term Palestine is derived from Philistia, the name given
- 31:11to the coastal region occupied by the Philistines, a group of
- 31:14people who migrated from the Aegean Sea region.
- 31:19If you remember these people, biblical history, these people
- 31:24were the ones that God wanted to wipe out.
- 31:27And they were also the giants. So they were referred to as
- 31:34giants. This is when you had the story
- 31:36of David and Goliath, actually, not sure about that.
- 31:41Take that back, OK, Samson and Delilah and Delilah.
- 31:46So he took a wife from this area.
- 31:50And this is like, this is currently Gaza is what we're
- 31:53talking about, the land there. And that was a land that if you
- 31:57look, they, the Philistines were always at war with the Jews and
- 32:04the, the Israelites, I should say.
- 32:06And they, God had something against them because they were
- 32:13idolatrous. And he told the Israelites never
- 32:19to interact with them, never to join with them.
- 32:23They were basically forbidden. So it's really interesting that
- 32:27the British mandate that the British people took the name of
- 32:33the Israel's enemy and made that, you know, designated that
- 32:38land with that name instead of the land that God gave to the
- 32:46Israelites going all the way back to what was it Abraham?
- 32:51No, you know Moses when he told them this is these are the
- 32:55boundaries of the land. So that was included like this
- 32:57is God the Creator. So God the Creator said Israel,
- 33:02this is your land and gave the boundaries of that which
- 33:06includes this area of Philistine, which is called
- 33:10Palestine. And the Philistines were the
- 33:12ones who were at war with the Israelites throughout all the
- 33:15Bible history, and they did terrible things to him, and they
- 33:19were evil. And Israel never quite cleaned
- 33:23out that group of people. Every time it seemed like they
- 33:29always left some remnant. And then I think about what
- 33:33happened in Gaza today, and it's like, there's a spirit.
- 33:38It's not maybe the people, but there's a spirit that hasn't
- 33:41gone away that just keeps fighting.
- 33:44Israel does not want Israel to have that land because it's a
- 33:48spirit against God ultimately, and it's seeking to destroy the
- 33:54chosen people. God did choose Israel and told
- 33:58Israel, this is your land. And so this spirit is still, you
- 34:04know, alive. It hasn't gone away.
- 34:06There isn't there hasn't been final judgement.
- 34:09So the spirit still is there and it's still coming against the
- 34:13Israelites and it's still being brought up today.
- 34:18I mean, when we talk about the Palestinians, I mean, if you,
- 34:23it's not a good thing to be called Palestine.
- 34:25So because of who they were and because they were an enemy of
- 34:31God. So I wouldn't want to be called
- 34:34a Palestinian because it's an it's in the Bible, it's an enemy
- 34:38of God. So it's kind of very derogatory
- 34:42to give that to the Israelites when that was not what God said
- 34:47to them. So we go back to the earliest
- 34:50record, which is God and what was told to us in the Bible.
- 34:55So the Byzantine period. During the Byzantine period, the
- 34:59region was further divided into Palestia Prima, Palestinia
- 35:02Sukhanda and Palestinia Solaratus.
- 35:05In the Islamic period after the Muslim context conquest, the
- 35:09name Philistine, a cognate of Palestine, was used to refer to
- 35:15the region, particularly within the military district Crusades.
- 35:20The name Palestine remained in use informally as a geographical
- 35:23designation during the Crusades and beyond.
- 35:27British Mandate. The name Palestine was
- 35:29officially revived as the name for the British Mandate,
- 35:32encompassing a territory that include present day Israel and
- 35:37the West Bank, as well as the territory east of the Jordan
- 35:41River which is now Jordan. Modern usage, the name Palestine
- 35:45continues to be used to refer to the region, often in the context
- 35:50of the ongoing Israeli Palestinian conflict and the
- 35:53aspirations for a Palestine state.
- 35:58Well, if we acknowledge a Palestine state in today, 2025,
- 36:03we would be directly opposing God.
- 36:08If you look at where the name came from the Philistines.
- 36:10Search the Bible for the Philistines and see what God has
- 36:14to say about the Philistines. Do we want that battle with God?
- 36:18So we need to look at the Bible because it's my people.
- 36:25What is it? My people are destroyed from a
- 36:27lack of knowledge. If we don't know what's in the
- 36:29Bible, sudden destruction will come upon.
- 36:33So with all of this Israel Palestine stuff that's going on
- 36:37today in 2025, it's it's very biblical and it's something that
- 36:44we need to be aware of and read the Bible.
- 36:48Look at what it says. And it also says those who bless
- 36:52Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed.
- 36:57Do you want to bring cursings on yourself?
- 36:59If you are aligning with the Palestinian movement, you're
- 37:02bringing cursing curses onto yourself according to the Bible.
- 37:07So we do, and it's the Bible. Also, if you look at this
- 37:12chapter that we just read, the Bible clearly shows that Israel
- 37:16is not obedient to God. It never says that Israel's
- 37:20perfect. It just says that God chose
- 37:23them. Of all the people, none of us
- 37:25are perfect. And that's again, we don't need
- 37:29to judge other people, but we need to look at what God says
- 37:34about everything. And anyway, I think I've said
- 37:41what I needed to say with that. Now I'm going to go back to more
- 37:44history. So again, more study of history.
- 37:48I wanted to find out about the Arab Israeli War and what that
- 37:52was all about. So the Arab Israeli War of 1948,
- 37:58the Arab Israeli War of 1948 broke out when 5 Arab nations
- 38:04invaded territory in the former Pence Palestinian Mandate
- 38:08immediately following the announcement of the independence
- 38:11of the State of Israel on May 14th, 1948.
- 38:16This is really interesting. So all of a sudden a war breaks
- 38:19out with five nations invading right after Israel gets their
- 38:26independence state. Now that is spiritual again.
- 38:32The enemy does not want God's chosen to have the land that God
- 38:37said was theirs. And that battle goes on today.
- 38:41And Jesus said it will be wars and rumors of wars continuing
- 38:44until the end. Until he returns, there's going
- 38:47to be a constant fighting over this land.
- 38:50Going back to the history part, in 1947 and again on May 14th,
- 38:551948, the United States had offered a de facto recognition
- 39:00of the Israeli Provisional Government.
- 39:02But during the war, the United States maintained an arms
- 39:05embargo against belligerents. On November 29th, 1947, the
- 39:12United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 181, also
- 39:17known as the Partition Resolution, that would divide
- 39:21Great Britain's former Palestinian mandate into Jewish
- 39:26and Arab states in May 1948. Under the resolution, the area
- 39:32of religious significance surrounding Jerusalem would
- 39:35remain under international control administered by the
- 39:39United Nations. The Palestinian Arabs refused to
- 39:44recognize this arrangement, which they regarded as favorable
- 39:48to the Jews and unfair to the Arab population that would
- 39:51remain in Jewish territory under the Partition. the United States
- 39:55sought a middle way by supporting the United Nations
- 39:58resolution but also encouraging negotiations between Arabs and
- 40:03Jews in the Middle East. the United Nations resolution
- 40:06sparked conflict between Jewish and Arab groups within
- 40:10Palestine. Fighting began with attacks by
- 40:13irregular bands of Palestinian Arabs attached to local units of
- 40:17the Arab Liberation Army, composed of volunteers from
- 40:21Palestine and neighboring Arab countries.
- 40:24These groups launched their attacks against Jewish cities,
- 40:28settlements and armed forces. The Jewish forces were composed
- 40:32of the Hagana, the underground militia of the Jewish community
- 40:36in Palestine, and two small irregular groups, the Ergun and
- 40:41the Lehi. The goal of the Arabs was
- 40:45initially to block the part partition resolution and to
- 40:49prevent the establishment of the Jewish states.
- 40:53The Jews, on the other hand, hope to gain control over the
- 40:56territory allotted to them under the partition plan.
- 40:59After Israel declared its independence on May 14th, 1948,
- 41:04the fighting intensified with other Arab forces joining the
- 41:08Palestinian Arabs in attacking territory in the former
- 41:12Palestinian Mandate. On the eve of May 14th, the
- 41:16Arabs launched an air attack on Tel Aviv, which the Israel
- 41:20Israelis resisted. This action was followed by the
- 41:24invasion of the former Palestinian mandate by Arab
- 41:28armies from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Egypt.
- 41:35Saudi Arabia sent a formation that fought under the Egyptian
- 41:40command. British trained forces from
- 41:43Transjordan eventually intervened in the conflict, but
- 41:47only in the areas that had been designated as part of the Arab
- 41:51state under the United Nations partition plan and the corpus
- 41:54separate separatum of Jerusalem. After tense early fighting,
- 42:00Israeli forces, now under joint command, were able to gain the
- 42:04offensive. Though the United Nations 2
- 42:09ceasefires during the conflict, fighting continued into 1949.
- 42:15Israel and Arab states did not reach any formal Armistice
- 42:19agreements until February. Under separate agreements
- 42:23between Israel and the neighboring states of Egypt,
- 42:27Lebanon, Transjordan, and Syria, these bordering nations agreed
- 42:33to formal Armistice lines. Israel gained some territory
- 42:37formally granted to the Palestinian Arabs under the
- 42:40United Nations resolution in 1947.
- 42:43Egypt and Jordan retained control over the Gaza Strip and
- 42:48the West Bank, respectively, so Egypt and Jordan had the control
- 42:53over these areas. These Armistice lines held until
- 42:571967. the United States did not become directly involved with
- 43:02the Armistice negotiations, but hoped that that instability in
- 43:07the Middle East would not interfere with the international
- 43:10balance of power between the Soviet Union and the United
- 43:14States. So that gives a little bit about
- 43:17the Arab Israeli war. And then there's more about the
- 43:23creation of Israel 1948, so I will read that.
- 43:26On May 14th, 1948, Ben David, Ben Gurion, the head of the
- 43:32Jewish Agency, proclaimed the establishment of the State of
- 43:35Israel. U.S.
- 43:36President Harry S Truman recognized the new nation on
- 43:39that same day. Although the United States
- 43:43supported the Balfour Declaration of 1917, which
- 43:47favored the establishment of a Jewish national home in
- 43:51Palestine, President Franklin D Roosevelt had assured the Arabs
- 43:56in 1945 that the United States would not intervene without
- 44:01consulting both the Jews and the Arabs in that region.
- 44:04The British, who held a colonial mandate for Palestine until May
- 44:091948, opposed both the creation of a Jewish state and an Arab
- 44:14state in Palestine, as well as an unlimited immigration of
- 44:19Jewish refugee refugees to the region.
- 44:22Great Britain wanted to preserve good relations with the Arabs to
- 44:26protect its vital political and economic interest in Palestine.
- 44:31You know, it's always about money.
- 44:33Soon after President Truman took office, he appointed several
- 44:37experts to study the Palestinian issue.
- 44:40In the summer of 1946, Truman established a special cabinet
- 44:45committee under the chairmanship of Doctor Henry F Grady, an
- 44:49assistant secretary of the state, who entered into
- 44:52negotiations with a parallel British committee to discuss the
- 44:56future of Palestine. In May 1946, Truman announced
- 45:00his approval of of a recommendation to admit 100,000
- 45:05displaced persons into Palestine and in October publicly declared
- 45:10his support for the creation of a Jewish state.
- 45:14Throughout 1947, the United Nations Special Commission on
- 45:18Palestine examined the Palestinian question and
- 45:21recommended the partition of Palestine into a Jewish and an
- 45:26Arab state. On November 29th, 1947, the
- 45:30United Nations adopted Resolution 181, also known as
- 45:35the Partition Resolution, that would divide Great Britain's
- 45:39former Palestinian Mandate into Jewish, Jewish, and Arab states
- 45:46in May 1948, when the British Mandate was scheduled to end.
- 45:52Under the resolution, the area of religious significance
- 45:55surrounding Jerusalem would remain a corpus separatum under
- 45:59international control and administered by the United
- 46:02Nations. Although the United States
- 46:04backed Resolution 181, the US Department of State recommended
- 46:08the creation of a United Nations trusteeship with limits on
- 46:13Jewish immigration and a division of Palestine into
- 46:16separate Jewish and Arab provinces, but not states.
- 46:21The State Department, concerned about the possibility of an
- 46:24increasing Soviet role in the Arab world and the potential for
- 46:29a restriction by Arab oil producing nations of oil
- 46:33supplies to the United States, advised against US intervention
- 46:37on behalf of the Jews. Later, as the date for British
- 46:41departure from Palestine group drew near, the Department of
- 46:46State grew concerned about the possibility of an all out war in
- 46:51Palestine as Arab states threatened to attack almost as
- 46:56soon as the UN passed the partition resolution.
- 47:00Despite the growing conflict between Palestinian Arabs and
- 47:04Palestinian Jews, and despite the Department of State's
- 47:08endorsement of a trusteeship, Truman ultimately decided to
- 47:13recognize the state Israel. So there is a biblical fight for
- 47:21the land and dividing the land is not what God said.
- 47:27We need to read the Bible. We, our governments need to read
- 47:32the Bible because God is the ultimate one in control and it
- 47:37will affect each and every single one of us what our
- 47:41countries decide in regards to this land.
- 47:45Think about it and study the Bible.
