- 0:00Speaker 1: Here with Gino, or we have a live a cafe
- 0:02Speaker 1: Aura in Manchester, or in the basement where it's like
- 0:04Speaker 1: it's the party room mirror that was filled with former
- 0:08Speaker 1: Yukon players back in November. This is where you guys
- 0:10Speaker 1: said your after party right for the when you broke
- 0:14Speaker 1: the all time record and you celebrated your fortieth with
- 0:16Speaker 1: all your alums.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Uh yeah, down here, and but most of it was
- 0:21Speaker 2: upstairs because we were able to close the you know,
- 0:23Speaker 2: the restaurant and then have everybody here that night. It
- 0:26Speaker 2: was pretty uh yeah, there were a lot of Hall
- 0:29Speaker 2: of Famers in the building that night. Yeah, everywhere everywhere
- 0:32Speaker 2: you turned, like if you were a kid that like, hey,
- 0:36Speaker 2: I scored a thousand points. By the time you got
- 0:38Speaker 2: to the bar, it was like midnight. There's so many
- 0:40Speaker 2: guys on line, you know.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Yeah, there's twelve of them now over two thousand, that's
- 0:44Speaker 3: what I mean. And then one that had three thousand
- 0:47Speaker 3: was here too. Yeah. That was pretty wild.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna throw something at you here. My son
- 0:51Speaker 1: does a podcast, it's a women's basketball with Magan Gower
- 0:54Speaker 1: of her hoop stats and this was through play on
- 0:56Speaker 1: last Wednesday.
- 0:58Speaker 3: All right, we'll talk turnovers. Ye, now they're more, you
- 1:01Speaker 3: know more.
- 1:02Speaker 1: They happen more in women's basketball than men's basketball. But
- 1:06Speaker 1: through games Wednesday, the amount of teams, the amount of
- 1:09Speaker 1: times there were twenty five plus turnovers in a game,
- 1:12Speaker 1: It's happened twelve times in men's games this year. I
- 1:16Speaker 1: want to take a stab on how many times it's
- 1:17Speaker 1: happened in women's games like this is through like last
- 1:20Speaker 1: middle of the last week.
- 1:22Speaker 2: How many happened in MEN'SI.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Twelve twenty five plus over fifty? How about four hundred
- 1:27Speaker 3: and forty five?
- 1:28Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:32Speaker 1: He got there from one of his sid friends who
- 1:34Speaker 1: has has all the stats. That's that's wild, that's wild.
- 1:39Speaker 2: But you know what, all those kids responsible for those
- 1:42Speaker 2: four hundred and forty five, they're going to be in
- 1:43Speaker 2: the portal because they think they're not getting enough playing time.
- 1:49Speaker 3: It even tappens to the best of them.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I mean, what do they care? Where they have their turnovers?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Where they are now, where they're going.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Isn't that wild? Though? Just to think that's.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Well, I say that all the time, though, you know,
- 2:01Speaker 2: I say, listen, you know, you're kind of this is
- 2:03Speaker 2: kind of sport. It's like half sport half entertainment, right,
- 2:07Speaker 2: people buy a ticket, they want to come to the game.
- 2:10Speaker 2: You know, if you think about it, if you've been
- 2:11Speaker 2: a Yukon fan for the last thirty years, generally speaking,
- 2:15Speaker 2: you get your car and you're driving up to the game,
- 2:17Speaker 2: and you go, hey, you want to go up and
- 2:19Speaker 2: see Ukon women's basketball. Do you think let's see if
- 2:22Speaker 2: they're going to win, Like we win like ninety percent
- 2:25Speaker 2: of the games we play at home. So it's not
- 2:27Speaker 2: about do you think they're going to weigh this go,
- 2:29Speaker 2: it's let's go watch and be entertained about how they play,
- 2:33Speaker 2: you know, like do some things that make us go wow?
- 2:37Speaker 2: You know? So I said, so if you keep bouncing
- 2:39Speaker 2: the ball off each other's heads when you pass the ball,
- 2:42Speaker 2: these people at some point are going to go my
- 2:44Speaker 2: grandson does that. Actually he probably doesn't, but my granddaughter,
- 2:48Speaker 2: According to stats, my granddaughter does that. So I could
- 2:50Speaker 2: go home and watch it at home. So you have
- 2:52Speaker 2: to be good enough that people see things that they
- 2:56Speaker 2: ordinarily wouldn't see if they were watching you know, low
- 3:00Speaker 2: level basketball. So I'm always on them about this stuff,
- 3:03Speaker 2: you know, and I don't know it goes in one
- 3:06Speaker 2: air out the other.
- 3:06Speaker 3: But I feel like.
- 3:07Speaker 2: It's my job to say it.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Although you're inside the top ten of least teams that
- 3:12Speaker 1: turn the ball over, but I'll just drive eleven.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Our assistant turnover ratio is number one in the country.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Yeah, that it is.
- 3:20Speaker 2: But we're three hundred and fifty out of three hundred
- 3:22Speaker 2: and fifty three and free throws attempted.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Funny you bring that up because you've got the.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Three hundred and fifty out of three hundred and fifty three.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, that's that's staggering.
- 3:31Speaker 2: You know, because a majority of my team they're allergic
- 3:35Speaker 2: to contact, to anybody being near them. I don't know
- 3:40Speaker 2: what deodorant they use, but they don't want anybody near them.
- 3:43Speaker 3: So embarrassing.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Here's a staggering When I was doing prep for the
- 3:46Speaker 1: Paul and Paul's of course Wednesday. You know, Jerry Allen
- 3:49Speaker 1: is having a marvelous year for De Paul. She went
- 3:52Speaker 1: to Indiana for a year, came to play for Doug.
- 3:56Speaker 1: She's gone through a myriad of injuries, but she's having
- 3:58Speaker 1: a phenomenal last year.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Age almost twenty wins a game.
- 4:01Speaker 1: She has made one hundred and forty five free throws
- 4:03Speaker 1: this year out of one to seventy one, so she's
- 4:06Speaker 1: eighty five percent. You know how many free throws your
- 4:08Speaker 1: team has made entirely one hundred and fifty two.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I was gonna say fifty two. Yeah, you said one
- 4:14Speaker 2: hundred and fifty.
- 4:15Speaker 1: One hundred and fifty two out of two oh eight.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So you're up over seventy up to seventy three percent
- 4:20Speaker 1: now because you were in the uper sixties for a while.
- 4:22Speaker 1: But it's just the fact that it's just a low number.
- 4:25Speaker 1: But you are making more free throws now than the
- 4:27Speaker 1: opposition now, because that was because usually for you, it's
- 4:32Speaker 1: it's you make more free throws of the opposing team.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Normally it takes.
- 4:36Speaker 2: We went twenty years where the number of free throws
- 4:39Speaker 2: we made was more than the number you took. But
- 4:44Speaker 2: that's when we have players that would like hit you
- 4:47Speaker 2: and then score. Now we have guys that like don't
- 4:51Speaker 2: want to be touched and try to score. So it's
- 4:54Speaker 2: a whole different, whole, different ball of wax.
- 4:56Speaker 1: You know, are they calling enofiles on your team in
- 5:00Speaker 1: your mind?
- 5:02Speaker 3: Probably?
- 5:02Speaker 2: I mean, I think you have to put yourself in
- 5:04Speaker 2: position to get fout. I think you have to make
- 5:07Speaker 2: the official blow the whistle.
- 5:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:09Speaker 2: That's why I try to tell them, this is a
- 5:11Speaker 2: coaching right. When you're on defense, you don't want the
- 5:13Speaker 2: ref to blow the whistle, all right, because it's going
- 5:18Speaker 2: to go against you and you're putting in the hands
- 5:22Speaker 2: of the official. If you're an offense, you want the
- 5:25Speaker 2: official to blow to whistle every single possession. Take your chances,
- 5:30Speaker 2: you know. So do we do that enough? Do we
- 5:33Speaker 2: put ourselves in position to make the official blow the whistle? No,
- 5:37Speaker 2: although Page gets fouled more than any good player in
- 5:39Speaker 2: the country and they don't call it, but we talk.
- 5:43Speaker 2: But she lets them know after every shot that she
- 5:46Speaker 2: doesn't get fault, so they don't like her to begin with,
- 5:49Speaker 2: and now she's getting no calls. Then she wants me
- 5:52Speaker 2: to get technicals to back her up, Like, why don't
- 5:55Speaker 2: you get technicals to stick up for me? I said,
- 5:57Speaker 2: why don't you stop whining and then I'll stick.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Up for you.
- 6:00Speaker 1: You were quite animated on Saturday, you know. We don't
- 6:02Speaker 1: get to sit next to the bench up much. By
- 6:03Speaker 1: the way, you set a nice screen for the play
- 6:05Speaker 1: by play guy.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I appreciate that.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's okay, I mean that was good at that.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I'm the one who ducks bobs and weeds. I'm supposed
- 6:13Speaker 3: to do that. The official officials do down this.
- 6:15Speaker 1: On the other side, when I'm calling games over there,
- 6:18Speaker 1: mister Paul Team, they're not even your big sisters to
- 6:23Speaker 1: Paul Team. I mean, I don't recognize the style of play.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I mean when Doug's there, I mean they're jacking up
- 6:29Speaker 1: thirty three is a game. They only make five threes
- 6:31Speaker 1: per game. Miss the Paul Team. It's a very different
- 6:34Speaker 1: look to.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Them this year.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, you know, you have to go with
- 6:39Speaker 2: what you have, you know, and generally, you know, they
- 6:44Speaker 2: recruited a lot of really good three point shooters and
- 6:47Speaker 2: that's been there. Their thing has always been full core,
- 6:50Speaker 2: press the whole game, and shoot as many threes as
- 6:54Speaker 2: you can. And now I don't think they press as much,
- 6:59Speaker 2: and they certainly don't shoot as many threes. And yet
- 7:03Speaker 2: what are they fourth in their league?
- 7:05Speaker 3: Yeah, they're six and three now.
- 7:06Speaker 2: So considering they've been playing without their head coach, I
- 7:09Speaker 2: think Joe Pozzatti, who's their assistant, is now acting head coach.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I think she's done a phenomenal job. She should be
- 7:15Speaker 2: Coach of the Year. I mean they've they've and they've
- 7:18Speaker 2: gotten better and better and better every week. So yeah, No,
- 7:24Speaker 2: it's a different De Paul team. They play a different style.
- 7:27Speaker 2: You know, they're leading the league. They're leading the league
- 7:30Speaker 2: in offensive rebounds.
- 7:32Speaker 1: That they do well last. Well, your field goal percentage
- 7:36Speaker 1: is number one. I'm sure there's some correlation there.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but we're last in offensive evoun Yeah, because every
- 7:45Speaker 2: time we shoot, everybody goes that's in and they run back,
- 7:49Speaker 2: and theoretically the only person who should think it's in
- 7:51Speaker 2: is the shooter. Everybody else should think I'm gonna go
- 7:56Speaker 2: get an offensive evound. So I told Jenna, I said, Jenna, like,
- 8:02Speaker 2: do you know how many times we throw the ball
- 8:04Speaker 2: to you? She goes, not enough. I said, Well, you
- 8:07Speaker 2: don't scream and yell for the ball enough. You just
- 8:09Speaker 2: stand there, Like I said, so if you call for
- 8:11Speaker 2: the ball more, I said, but I bet you we
- 8:13Speaker 2: throw you the ball sixty five times a game. She goes,
- 8:17Speaker 2: what I said, how many shots we take? So that's
- 8:20Speaker 2: a pass to you, go get it. They don't think
- 8:23Speaker 2: like that. If you're a post player, you got to
- 8:25Speaker 2: think like that. You're gotta think every time. One of
- 8:27Speaker 2: my teammates shoots the ball, that's a pass to me.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Go get it off the glass, score and get out
- 8:34Speaker 2: the great ones. Jamel Elliott, that's what she.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Thought, and swaying in to make Asian.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Oh yeah, those guys. Yeah, you know when we beat
- 8:44Speaker 2: Oklahoma in the National Championship game in two thousand and two,
- 8:50Speaker 2: any think about.
- 8:50Speaker 3: We have Sue and d You didn't make a three
- 8:52Speaker 3: in that game.
- 8:53Speaker 2: We did not make a three in that game. We
- 8:55Speaker 2: won because those guys just chase down every miss. That's
- 9:00Speaker 2: sometimes you got to win that way. You know. Sometimes
- 9:03Speaker 2: it's pretty, but sometimes it's got to be gritty.
- 9:07Speaker 1: That's it, all right, Moral Gino the Women's Basketball Coaches
- 9:10Speaker 1: Show Live Accaffie are in Manchester here on Learfield.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Stay with us.
