- 0:00Hey sis, welcome to Girl Date the Good Guy podcast, the space where we strip
- 0:04away the noise and get real about toxic cycles, healing, and stepping into the love God has for us.
- 0:10I'm your host, Emily Jordan, and I've been where you are, heartbroken,
- 0:14confused, and chasing love that didn't come.
- 0:23Hey sis, welcome back. I am so excited to have you here with me today and I
- 0:31just thank you for being in this space with me.
- 0:34Today's episode is close to my heart because I'm sharing something real.
- 0:38Parts of my own journey of heartbreak, healing, and finally realizing why discernment
- 0:44and God's design for love are everything.
- 0:47I'll be honest with you, I was not following God's path when it came to my relationships.
- 0:52I never asked him about my marriages. I didn't pray about who I dated.
- 0:56I wore my heart on my sleeve when God clearly tells us to guard it.
- 1:01Proverbs 4.23 says, Above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it.
- 1:07And sis, I wasn't guarding mine.
- 1:10I was handing it over carelessly, and it cost me everything.
- 1:15It took my last marriage and season of flings to finally open my eyes.
- 1:20That's when I understood why discernment is essential and why Christian dating
- 1:24is more fulfilling than any fleeting romance.
- 1:27Because all of that other stuff, the situationships, the rushed marriages,
- 1:32the men who were never assigned to us, that's nothing but a setup for heartbreak.
- 1:37And whether we admit it or not, heartbreak leaves us feeling downright confused and unworthy.
- 1:44We waste years, sometimes decades, investing in relationships that were never God's plan.
- 1:51And the tears, the pain, the brokenness, it lingers long after the relationship ends.
- 1:58But here's the truth. Breaking toxic cycles doesn't start with finding the right
- 2:03guy. It starts with healing.
- 2:06It starts with forgiving yourself, offering yourself grace, and letting God
- 2:10restore what was broken.
- 2:12As Psalm 147.3 reminds us, God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
- 2:19That means he sees your pain, sis, and wants to restore you.
- 2:24For a whole decade, I walked this out. I embraced celibacy, leaned into my healing
- 2:29seasons, and learned to trust God as my brother, my father, and my closest friend.
- 2:35I had to overcome loneliness. I had to let go of that constant need for validation from men.
- 2:41And little by little, God healed me from the hurts of my past.
- 2:45What I learned in that season is this. God never designed for us for counterfeit
- 2:50love. He intended for us to be loved, respected, and honored,
- 2:54like a garden, where the gardener tends it well. We thrive.
- 2:59If that's not what you're getting in your relationship, sis,
- 3:02it might be time to pluck some weeds yourself.
- 3:05When I launched this podcast, I made a vow. I would share my truth,
- 3:09because I know I'm not the only one who's been through this.
- 3:13So many women are tired of settling, tired of being mistreated,
- 3:18tired of confusing attention for love. and I knew if I could use my story to
- 3:23help another woman win, it was worth it.
- 3:26Because let's be real, who doesn't want a beautiful love story?
- 3:30But here's the key. It has to be God's story.
- 3:34His design for love is more fulfilling than any romance you could ever have.
- 3:38In 1 Corinthians 13, 4-7, it says, Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy.
- 3:46It does not boast. It is not proud.
- 3:48It does not dishonor others. It is not self-seeking.
- 3:53It is not easily angered. it keeps no
- 3:56record of wrongs love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth it
- 4:01always protects always trusts always hopes and always perseveres and at the
- 4:07end of the day don't you want a relationship that looks like this one that's
- 4:12built the way god intended.
- 4:14That's where the real love story begins if this resonated with you today i want
- 4:20you to take a moment and reflect.
- 4:22Are you leaning into healing and trusting God in the meantime?
- 4:26Or are you just hustling for love that was never meant for you?
- 4:31God's way is always worth the wait. So if you're ready to stop the cycles,
- 4:36lean into healing, and prepare for the kind of love story God designed for you,
- 4:41then stay connected right here.
- 4:43Share this episode with a friend who needs this reminder today.
- 4:46And remember, God's best for you is always better than the best you could ever choose for yourself.
- 4:52And I want to say that again, God's best for you is always better than the best
- 4:58you could choose for yourself.
- 5:00Thank you for tuning in to Girl Date the Good Guy. Until next time,
