Transcript
- 0:00What is up, guys? Good evening. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there.
- 0:08Hope your day was wonderful.
- 0:13As far as the A's day, not so good on a lot of different fronts.
- 0:19Obviously, the loss to the Orioles 2-1 in a very frustrating fashion.
- 0:25But I think more pressing is the potential long-term injury with Jacob Wilson.
- 0:34This is being reported by Mark Polishuk from MLB Trade Rumors.
- 0:42A's manager Mark Kotze told MLB.com, Ian Quinlan, and other media after the game
- 0:54that we will have more imaging tomorrow and have further details on the timeline for Wilson.
- 1:02Quinlan noted that Wilson was seen in the clubhouse wearing a sling on his left arm.
- 1:09It seemed inevitable that Wilson will hit at least the 10-day injured list
- 1:17and the shortstop season could potentially be in jeopardy depending on the severity of the sprain.
- 1:25This has me, obviously, and every A's fan out there extremely, extremely worried
- 1:38about the outlook of Wilson's injury.
- 1:42By first look, it didn't look great. He looked in pain.
- 1:46And the initials report from Martin Gallego sounded like it wasn't going to be that serious.
- 1:53It wasn't going to be that long.
- 1:55But after the latest report from MLB Trade Rumors and a sling around his arm
- 2:05and adding that up with the pain, he potentially looked in.
- 2:12It's not out of the realm that we could be looking at a potential July-August type of return
- 2:20and a stint on the 60-day IL for Wilson.
- 2:25That's a possibility. That's not out of the realm of any type of situation or possibility out there.
- 2:34We don't know.
- 2:39But it seems like at least a stint on the IL is inevitable,
- 2:46which would mean, even on a 10-day IL, it means that Wilson's return probably wouldn't be until minimum, mid-June.
- 2:58I think best-case scenario, you're looking at a mid-June return for Wilson.
- 3:07Asher, what's happened to me? I really want to blame the ump, but some of those pitches need to be challenged.
- 3:14Today, it's tough, right?
- 3:19A lot of those situations, it's hard to decide what to challenge, what to not, and so forth.
- 3:28And it's easy for us on the visual side to say, hey, challenge it.
- 3:33Don't, because we've got that box, et cetera.
- 3:38BBQ, what's up, man? If Butler can't hit, you would think he would give more effort on defense.
- 3:43Did you see the pink paint on his face? I did not.
- 3:48What a clown. He's so bad. He's struggling, man. There's no question about it.
- 3:55There's no question about it. And how unclutch are all of our hitters?
- 3:59So many balls called strikes, and none of them had the courage to challenge.
- 4:04It's tough in a tight ball game like that to use up those challenges when the pitcher may need to use them, et cetera.
- 4:12I mean, I don't think we can really blame anything on today's games with the exception of we just didn't hit, man.
- 4:22We didn't hit. I think that's the bottom line, guys. We simply did not hit.
- 4:29And we collected altogether four hits. We struck out ten times.
- 4:38We walked four times. We didn't hit many balls hard.
- 4:43Cortez had a couple of hit balls hit hard. Soderstrom had some opportunities.
- 4:48He didn't come through. Rooker had some opportunities. He chased the pitch way out of the zone.
- 4:53I don't think we can blame anything on today's game with the exception of we just didn't hit.
- 5:01I mean, let's be honest, guys. I mean, yeah, the umpiring and the challenges and this and that, sure.
- 5:10We didn't hit. Stop. We just didn't hit.
- 5:14I was kind of exaggerating a little bit with regard to Chris Bassett last night.
- 5:22I thought Bassett was okay. I didn't think he was six innings, four hits, one run, 6Ks good.
- 5:35I mean, their opener, what was his name? Keegan Aitken, one inning.
- 5:40He got through that inning in what, five pitches? He came into the game with like a 10 ERA.
- 5:46Everybody's been hitting these guys. We just didn't come to play. We didn't come to hit.
- 5:51Simple as that. Had nothing to do with anything else.
- 5:57Butler needs to get traded. Play Colby Thomas.
- 6:01You want to trade Butler when his values were zero and it would almost be just like basically a salary dump.
- 6:08Too soon, bud. Too soon.
- 6:12Spill on myself. What a day.
- 6:18Ultra, I want my Nick Kurtz back. This imposter has zero power and looks the part of a high OBP leadoff guy.
- 6:26As of late, he's been good. He didn't have a good day today. 0 for 3, 2Ks.
- 6:36For the series, Kurtz was, what was Kurtz for the series?
- 6:464 for 12, 3 runs scored, 2 doubles, a triple, 2 RBIs, 2 walks, 2Ks, a stolen base.
- 6:53It's pretty good. Ultra. But you're right. I mean, there's no power right now, but he's hitting good.
- 7:03I think that'll come around. We had a good road trip, guys. Went 3-3 on the road trip.
- 7:08We are who we are at the end of the day. With that being said, are we losing games and winning games in ways that us fans wouldn't expect? Absolutely.
- 7:20bbq. Wilson seems pretty injury prone. If I remember correctly, got injured in the first game in his big leagues.
- 7:27Yeah. When he crossed home, when he scored, I believe he did. And he was on the IL for a little bit last year.
- 7:38I think it was the risk. And then this year, I think it's just bad luck. I wouldn't put that on anything of, hey, he's fragile.
- 7:46You know what I mean? I just think, but there's a distinct possibility we lose Wilson for months.
- 7:55That's a concern. Do you think they could salary dump Butler if they wanted to? I'm not sure if anyone would want him.
- 8:05Yeah. I don't know if you'd want. The thing with Butler is his salary for the next few years is so team friendly.
- 8:15He's not making a whole lot. 28, 29, 30, he's making some bank. But for the next couple of years, yeah, I don't think they're going to do a salary dump on Butler yet.
- 8:26I don't think they're going to give up on Butler quite this soon. I mean, the problem is, is BBQs like Butler stinks.
- 8:35I mean, don't get me wrong, but do we have anybody really sitting there that can replace Butler and say, hey, he's way better?
- 8:44The first thing you're going to say is Bolte. OK, well, Bolte first has to prove first has to come up to the major leagues and pass the proof he can do something there.
- 8:52But right now, when you look at the A's like complete farm system and team at this time, we're not like overloaded with outfielders.
- 9:04We don't have like so many outfielders out there where it's like, oh, my God, we can just choose from whoever.
- 9:11There's no room for Butler. No. So the question is, is like, OK, we get rid of Butler, but then who?
- 9:24Butler's probably the best option we have right now. We're not deep in the outfield, guys, not in the farm system.
- 9:35Not on our current roster. Colby Thomas is great, yeah, against left handers, but he's just I mean, he's somebody that doesn't really move the needle.
- 9:50You couldn't do much worse than Butler. But yeah, we're not talking about worse, we're talking about who can get us better.
- 9:59I don't want to trade Butler. I don't want to dump Butler for Butler, if you know what I mean, BBQ.
- 10:05I don't want to get rid of Butler and he has this ceiling. And then all of a sudden we get another Butler.
- 10:13There's no one out there that's really proven they're better than Butler at his worst.
- 10:17My point is, Kurt seems to have changed his game in order to adapt. I know. Yeah, it does. Doesn't it, Ultra?
- 10:26Yeah, it does.
- 10:32Yeah, it does.
- 10:37Yeah, it does, man. Yeah, it does.
- 10:42You kind of hit a spot right there, Ultra. That's a great point you made. Simple. It's a simple take you just made, but it hit hard right there.
- 10:58Yeah, I agree.
- 11:05Yeah, I don't disagree with that. Time will tell, but for right now, Butler's not even really scaring warning tracks or home runs, right?
- 11:20There's no question about it. He's been hitting better. Four for 12 in the Philly series.
- 11:35Four for 12 in the Orioles series.
- 11:39Three for 13 in the Guardians series. Two for 11 in the Royals series. I'm trying here. I'm looking, trying to find a pattern. Three for 12 in the Rangers series. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know.
- 11:59I don't know.
- 12:10Of course they could, Raiders, but the whole thing is what do you want to give up? I mean, you're talking about some players right there.
- 12:18We'd have to give up a load.
- 12:21I don't think you really want to yet. You know, I don't think we're in bad shape. I don't think we're in bad shape right now, guys. I think when you look at, we're 21 and 19.
- 12:36Remember guys, to our expectations and who we are as a team and the goals we set at the beginning of the season, we're 21 and 19.
- 12:43I think the big frustrating part with A's fans right now is how we've won those 21 games.
- 12:51If we won all those 21 games, 12-7, 13-8, just completely out slugging everybody, what are we saying?
- 13:02Oh, pitching stinks, bullpen stinks. We already knew that in the off season. When's jump Arnold win and all these guys coming up? It's a matter of time, right? That's what we'd be saying.
- 13:15But we're winning games, 1-0, 3-2, 4-1. We're kind of grinding out wins and we're losing. It's like we're losing. We've lost so many games like 2-1.
- 13:27We're like, there's a problem with our hitting. And I think it's just the situation is we are who we are. We're a young lineup. We're getting better.
- 13:3822-year-olds, 23-year-olds are playing as 22-year-olds and 23-year-olds. Included in that is a Tyler Soderstrom and Nick Kurtz. Age matters.
- 13:50They're going to get better, guys. We're going to get better. With all things being said, we're in a good position. And I know this lineup's going to get hot. I know this lineup's going to get hot.
- 14:03Straight A's. Kurtz is going to go to a streak where he's had eight home runs in 10 games and no one will care anymore. He's hitting the ball harder than anyone in baseball.
- 14:11Bingo! Well said. Well said, Sammy. Well said.
- 14:20Again, being MLB ready is a must. It can't be one guy in a slump. So let's rush Bolte into a situation. So let's rush Bolte into a situation that he's not ready for.
- 14:34I think he's ready. I'm the biggest proponent of not rushing young guys. And I've always had one theme. Dominate level to level. Advance. And if you get to the triple-A level and dominate, it's time.
- 14:55Bolte's done that. Morales, that wasn't the case. Jump, let's take our time. Arnold, let's take our time. DeVries, excuse me, let's take our time.
- 15:09Bolte is dominating. It's time. And like I said, I'm the biggest. And you've got to also remember Vegas 2028. Henry Bolte will be Rule 5 eligible next year. He's put in his time.
- 15:24It's not like we're rushing Bolte. He'll be Rule 5 eligible next year. BBQ, I'm sure Kurtz wants to hit home runs if he could. Something just wrong with the swing or approach. I think Sammy, he's hit the ball hard.
- 15:39He's drawn walks. Pitchers are pitching to him a lot more carefully too. You got to take that for account as well. We're all right. We're all right. Days like today are going to happen. We're okay.
- 15:57Okay. Ultra. Kurtz, EVs dropped the last several games in a row 1-2-3. I didn't know that.
- 16:09I mean, what we're talking about what? Last several games? I haven't seen that. I haven't seen that.
- 16:16I have not seen that. I trust you, but I haven't seen that.
- 16:21Sam, he hit two doubles well over 100 MPH yesterday. He's in the 99th percentile in hard hit rate and 97th adrenaline exit below. He's hitting the ball in the air plenty.
- 16:33Ultra, maybe we're getting it. Guys, maybe we're being a little too critical of old Nicky Kurtz.
- 16:39Like I said, 4-12, three runs, two doubles, a triple, two RBIs, two walks, stole a base.
- 16:53I think it was a good series, guys. Just because he had a series where he went 0-3, a walk and two Ks. And by the way, he struck out twice today.
- 17:02That was the only time he struck out all series long. He went 2-5 in Game 1. He went 2-4 in Game 2.
- 17:10He had two doubles in Game 2. He had a triple in Game 1. Guys, I think we're being...
- 17:17Listen, if we're going to make these complaints at the beginning of the year, I wouldn't disagree.
- 17:22Now, with what Ultra said at the beginning, is he changing his approach from a leadoff spot? Maybe.
- 17:28Maybe. Same time he's getting on base, he's hitting the ball hard.
- 17:36Listen, I believe in the traditional way. I don't think he should be leading off.
- 17:44But I said it last night. That is based on just a simplistic way of how I believe baseball lineups should be set.
- 17:57That is a completely selfish and my way of how I think lineups should be set. Doesn't make me right.
- 18:13Butler's numbers are worse than he's playing. He's been so unlucky.
- 18:19But you've got to also remember, Asher, he's also gotten a few breaks too, right?
- 18:26He's hit balls hard, yeah. But you've got to remember also the ball against, was it KC I think?
- 18:31Or the series against Cleveland? He hit a pop-up, no one caught it. He's gotten his fair share of breaks as well.
- 18:38He's gotten his bloopers. He's gotten his hits he should have nowhere deserved to get.
- 18:45So I think his average, and I believe that with all players.
- 18:50Gelof's gotten a lot of lucky infield hits as well.
- 18:55But at the same time, he's also hit the ball in the nose at people where it's kind of unlucky.
- 19:02So I understand exactly what you're saying, but it's worked both ways.
- 19:07It's worked both ways. He's gotten his lucky type of hits as well.
- 19:11100 mbh is about average for Kurtz though.
- 19:15That means he's barreling balls.
- 19:18He was 99% for most of the year in exit velocity.
- 19:23No worries for Gertie. I'm with you, Owen. I'm not worried about him.
- 19:28Guys, Ultra, he had a good series though.
- 19:31Not critical of Kurtz, just want to see the dude as the beast he was last season.
- 19:36I will say this, is he playing to an MVP level caliber that he was last year? No.
- 19:43He's not. But we're 40 games in.
- 19:46We're all right.
- 19:48I think that's what you mean, Ultra. That's what you're getting at.
- 19:52And I think what Straight A's is saying, I'm saying,
- 19:57Owen's saying is like, hey, he's having a solid year.
- 20:01He's having a solid year.
- 20:03What you're saying is like, hey, he's not having an MVP here.
- 20:07You guys are both right.
- 20:09BBQ, Ultra Monitor's right. Kurtz was a must watch at bat every time last year.
- 20:15I mean, I don't care about the must watch.
- 20:18I don't want him in baseball games.
- 20:21I understand. I know what you're getting at.
- 20:24But, yeah.
- 20:27Yeah. I mean, you said, BBQ, you sound like an ESPN commercial with that statement.
- 20:33I mean, it sounds like an ESPN commercial.
- 20:35Ultra Monitor is right. Kurtz is a must watch at bat every time.
- 20:39Come on, BBQ.
- 20:42This is not an ESPN commercial.
- 20:44He's doing okay. I get what you're getting at.
- 20:48But, stop.
- 20:52Butler didn't get picked off today. We're moving in the right.
- 20:55Did Butler get on base? He did get on base.
- 20:57He had a walk. Butler in the series, two for 11.
- 21:02A run scored, five strikeouts, a walk.
- 21:04I wanted to see him steal in the ninth, first pitch.
- 21:08I was hoping he would just take second.
- 21:11We're down one. Shit.
- 21:16Kurtz has a 139 WRC+.
- 21:20He's just starting to heat up. I agree.
- 21:21He'll be hitting 280 by season end with 25 to 30 bombs.
- 21:26No question.
- 21:28Depending on Wilson's injury timeline, do you think—
- 21:31No, I don't.
- 21:33I don't think—
- 21:35Leo's hitting 260 right now.
- 21:38Leo has to prove he can hit double A pitching.
- 21:41And this is no knock on Leo.
- 21:43Leo's awesome. What he's doing is amazing.
- 21:46He's going to be an all-star. He's going to be an amazing player.
- 21:52But he's not ready for big league pitching right now.
- 21:55No.
- 21:57Not this year.
- 21:58He has to hit double A pitching first.
- 22:01I think it's going to be Hernes every single day.
- 22:07It's Hernes. We don't have any other shortstops.
- 22:11I was thinking of
- 22:13I was thinking of
- 22:17Brett Harris.
- 22:19Brett Harris is an elite defender
- 22:22at third.
- 22:24He's played—Brett Harris has played
- 22:2752 games.
- 22:28He hasn't played any shortstop in his career
- 22:32in the major league level.
- 22:33He's played 52 innings
- 22:36at the triple A level.
- 22:40And he hasn't been good defensively at shortstop.
- 22:44His comparison—his comp at shortstop
- 22:47is like a Max Muncy.
- 22:52He is Max Muncy at third base.
- 22:55Brett Harris at shortstop is Max Muncy at third base defensively.
- 23:01Same type of comp.
- 23:02Not good.
- 23:05It's going to be Hernes every single day.
- 23:07The other option you do have,
- 23:09and I was talking with Straight A's
- 23:11about it earlier,
- 23:12is possibly
- 23:16Drew Swift.
- 23:17Drew Swift was a 2021
- 23:23eighth-round pick out of Arizona State.
- 23:27Defensively, he's ridiculous.
- 23:31Hitting's gotten better.
- 23:32He's hitting 283 in Vegas.
- 23:38Hitting-wise, what you'll see from Drew Swift,
- 23:41if he gets to get the call,
- 23:43is comparable to like a Denzel Clark.
- 23:46But defensively, he's ridiculous.
- 23:49Problem is, you're going to have to make room for Drew Swift.
- 23:55You got to DFA somebody.
- 23:58You got to make room.
- 23:59Henry Bolte is going to get that first option.
- 24:07Curious on your thoughts as Wilson as a hitter.
- 24:09I love Wilson as a hitter.
- 24:11Does he chase bad pitches sometimes, Owen?
- 24:13Sometimes does he just make you go absolutely insane?
- 24:17He's an aggressive hitter.
- 24:18He gets after it.
- 24:20He's going after it.
- 24:21He's going to look to bang.
- 24:23Now, I mean, as far as like a pure hitter,
- 24:26in the sense of like
- 24:31taking pitches and working the count,
- 24:33yeah, no, he's not that guy.
- 24:35But as far as hitting and placing the ball and making contact,
- 24:39I think Wilson's phenomenal.
- 24:42I think he's awesome.
- 24:44I think he's ridiculously good.
- 24:47I love Jacob Wilson in every part of his game.
- 24:52I like him a lot, Owen.
- 24:54I like him a ton.
- 24:55I can see the other side of like,
- 24:57hey, some pitches he swings at just,
- 25:00yeah, you have to take the good with the bad.
- 25:03Owen, you're right about Bassett pitching his best guy.
- 25:06I was kind of half kidding.
- 25:09I was kind of half kidding.
- 25:11I didn't really believe that.
- 25:15I can't believe you didn't see the pink face on Butler.
- 25:17He looked like Hello Kitty or a, I missed it.
- 25:21I missed it, PBQ.
- 25:24Not worried about Hernes at short.
- 25:26He was good there last year when Wilson went on the IL for the, yeah.
- 25:31Hernes is good, man.
- 25:33He's going to fight you.
- 25:35He's a tough at bat.
- 25:36He's solid in the field, has good speed.
- 25:41He was awesome in AAA last year.
- 25:43He was great for the WBC.
- 25:45He's fine.
- 25:46Is it a downgrade?
- 25:47No question about it.
- 25:49But in other words, I'm not really,
- 25:51I don't think there's anybody better at the AAA level than Hernes.
- 25:57Hernes is a solid defender.
- 25:59I wouldn't consider him great.
- 26:01He's a good defender.
- 26:04I don't think there's anybody that's a better hitter.
- 26:07And you guys were like, well, hitting.
- 26:08Well, shoot, remember something guys in AAA last year,
- 26:12Hernes tore it up with the bat.
- 26:17Understand how big the jump is from 3A to the major leagues.
- 26:23I can't think of anybody I would rather have at the plate.
- 26:30This may seem off, right?
- 26:32I don't know who I would rather have at the plate at any level.
- 26:37If you were to take the whole A's farm system and say, Hey,
- 26:42who's going to play shortstop.
- 26:44There's no, for me, offensively, the number one guy is Gerald Hernes.
- 26:48At the MLB level this year.
- 26:51Now tell me somebody who's better.
- 26:57Tell me somebody who's better now.
- 27:01Pink eye shadow.
- 27:02I missed that.
- 27:03I saw the fuzzy belt.
- 27:06I'd like to see McNeil at lead off more.
- 27:11Yeah.
- 27:12McNeil had a tough series, right?
- 27:13What did McNeil do this series?
- 27:15I think it was over.
- 27:18Oh, for 10, three K's.
- 27:23I'd like to see McNeil at lead off more.
- 27:26You should have to be hitting over 200 before you're doing all that.
- 27:35Join us.
- 27:37Join us.
- 27:39Join us.
- 27:40Join us.
- 27:41Join us.
- 27:42Join late.
- 27:43What do you think we should do with Bolte right now?
- 27:45And do you think he gets the call coming back?
- 27:47I think you have to, I think he's earned it.
- 27:52I think they're going to wait and see what the deal with Wilson is.
- 27:56If the injury is serious with Jacob Wilson, you put them on the 60 day IL.
- 28:04And it is Henry Bolte that takes that roster spot.
- 28:12If it's not serious or as serious, you put Wilson on the 10 day IL.
- 28:19You DFA somebody like Junior Perez to make room for Henry Bolte.
- 28:29Something like that.
- 28:36I've always felt that Wilson should be the everyday lead off.
- 28:39And with Wilson going to IL, I feel like it needs to be McNeil.
- 28:47I've said it for a long time, guys.
- 28:50For me, the perfect lead off guy, and I hope he figures it out.
- 28:55And BBQ and the rest of you are going to go nuts is Lawrence Butler.
- 29:00But Lawrence Butler right now isn't even close.
- 29:03I want Lawrence Butler to be good so bad.
- 29:07Because this team just goes to a whole new hemisphere.
- 29:13If Butler's good and you have him leading off.
- 29:21It changes everything.
- 29:25But he's not even close right now, guys.
- 29:29He's not even close.
- 29:30As far as McNeil and Wilson, yeah, we've tried it before earlier in the season.
- 29:40I don't know.
- 29:44Sterner was great today, man.
- 29:46Can't say anything about Sterner today.
- 29:47Two thirds of an innings.
- 29:49I mean, he had two outings this series.
- 29:54He's good, man.
- 29:55He pitched an inning and a third.
- 29:57One walk, two Ks, no hits, no runs, no nothing.
- 30:02He pitched two thirds of an inning today.
- 30:04He was sharp, man.
- 30:06He pitched a total of 19 pitches in both his outings.
- 30:15We can't say nothing about Sterner today.
- 30:19We can't say anything about Sterner today.
- 30:21We can't say anything about Sterner.
- 30:32Sterner was really, really good.
- 30:33I'm happy for him.
- 30:40Can we play McNeil at short?
- 30:44Cortez at second and bring up Bolte up.
- 30:47Wow, we're stretching there.
- 30:48No, I mean, you could do anything.
- 30:53But guys, I mean, I'm okay with Hernandez at short.
- 30:58I'm okay with Hernandez at short.
- 31:01Hernandez is fine.
- 31:05He doesn't have the glitter.
- 31:07He doesn't have that big name.
- 31:08He doesn't have drafted out of this, there, and that.
- 31:12He's just a hard worker that shows up every day
- 31:16and is going to grind you and is going to fight you.
- 31:20I'm fine with Hernandez.
- 31:22He sounds like an A.
- 31:25I want Hernandez.
- 31:27I'm okay with Hernandez.
- 31:28Hernandez is going to play every single day.
- 31:31Cortez is going to play in right field.
- 31:33I want him platooning with Colby Thomas.
- 31:38I want Butler platooning with Henry Bolte in center.
- 31:46I want McNeil at second.
- 31:48I want Hernandez at short.
- 31:50I want Gelof at third.
- 31:52Kurtz at first.
- 31:53We're fine, guys.
- 31:55We're two games up in first place.
- 31:57We're okay.
- 31:59We're just fine.
- 32:00We're just fine.
- 32:01I'm all right.
- 32:03You guys should be good, too.
- 32:04We're fine.
- 32:05We got a big series coming up, I tell you what,
- 32:07against St. Louis.
- 32:09And they're going to be dogs.
- 32:12We better come up playing.
- 32:13We better play with a little bit of an edge.
- 32:17Still think Perkins should get an opportunity to be the primary closer?
- 32:20I do.
- 32:21I didn't think he looked bad on Friday night, ultra.
- 32:26He walked the first guy.
- 32:27Always been an issue with him, right?
- 32:29Struck out the next two.
- 32:33What happens sometimes with Perkins is he gets ahead of the count,
- 32:38and then it's just like,
- 32:39you know, it was a good example with his outing against,
- 32:42what was it?
- 32:43Basilo on Friday?
- 32:45Samuel Basalo.
- 32:48Lined a single up the middle.
- 32:52That was the only hit he allowed.
- 32:58I still like Perkins.
- 33:00I still like Perkins.
- 33:03Agree on Butler, him being a good league off.
- 33:05It is, man.
- 33:06Asher.
- 33:07I mean, I've talked about this a lot, guys.
- 33:092024.
- 33:11And it's so important.
- 33:12We get Rooker and.
- 33:15Butler back to.
- 33:18Some.
- 33:21Scenario where.
- 33:23They were the players.
- 33:25We thought they were when we signed to extensions.
- 33:28In 2024, in August and July and August.
- 33:31Guys, we were the fourth best team in all of this.
- 33:33We are so good.
- 33:35And the offense was carried by three people.
- 33:38Believe it or not.
- 33:39During that stretch.
- 33:40Well, for.
- 33:43You had Butler and Rooker on just the biggest tears ever.
- 33:48Do you guys remember?
- 33:49We had Max Schumann batting nine.
- 33:52And Max Schumann, when he played, he got so many opportunities.
- 33:56He reminds me a lot of.
- 33:58I don't know.
- 33:59Reminds me a lot of Schumann.
- 34:01And he was able to flip that lineup over.
- 34:04To Butler.
- 34:05And at that time, if you guys remember.
- 34:07Rooker batted second.
- 34:10But they was on a tear too.
- 34:12During the stretch.
- 34:14In 2024 over that.
- 34:16Couple of months.
- 34:18But yeah, we're a different team.
- 34:20We're a different team.
- 34:22We're a different team.
- 34:24We're a different team.
- 34:26We're a different team.
- 34:27Yeah, we're a different team.
- 34:29Oh, Asher Medina today.
- 34:30Oh, my God.
- 34:33Two innings.
- 34:34Four Ks.
- 34:37Wow.
- 34:38Yeah.
- 34:39That was exciting.
- 34:45Rance.
- 34:46I know he didn't play today, but Mark Kleiner Jr.
- 34:49Stinks.
- 34:50Yeah.
- 34:52We know.
- 34:53We know, but we know.
- 34:57Guys, we're all right, man.
- 34:59Let me give you the rundown on St. Louis.
- 35:04We're all right.
- 35:05We're 21 and 19, guys.
- 35:09We have five games left in this 15-game stretch.
- 35:15We're not that team yet.
- 35:18Good, great teams figure out a way to sweep today.
- 35:22Against a below-average team in the Orioles.
- 35:25We're not there yet.
- 35:26We're not that type of team.
- 35:29We're young.
- 35:30We're growing.
- 35:31We're getting better.
- 35:33We're not a great team yet.
- 35:37I don't even think we're a good team.
- 35:40We're a solid team.
- 35:42We're a solid young team that's getting better with an extremely high ceiling.
- 35:50That's who we are.
- 35:51That's who we are.
- 35:56So does it suck we lost today?
- 36:00Fuck yeah.
- 36:02But that's baseball, man.
- 36:06And I'm not trying to sugarcoat it or like, hey, no, it sucks.
- 36:10But I did have a feeling we were going to get beat today just because that's how baseball works.
- 36:18I didn't think it was going to be the way it happened.
- 36:22I didn't think it was going to be the way it happened.
- 36:26First game on Tuesday, Andrew Polante versus Jeffrey Springs.
- 36:30Polante 3-3, 4.34 ERA.
- 36:35When you're talking about this St. Louis Cardinals team, it starts and goes with...
- 36:48It starts and goes with Jordan Walker.
- 36:52And Jordan Walker, when you want to talk about...
- 36:57JJ Weatherholt's kind of tearing it up too.
- 36:59When you want to talk about players that was one of the top prospects in baseball,
- 37:05that people thought was going to be the next coming of somebody,
- 37:09that an organization literally gave up on.
- 37:14Jordan Walker's that guy.
- 37:17Now, you stick with somebody.
- 37:19You stick with somebody.
- 37:21You stick with somebody.
- 37:22You stick with somebody.
- 37:23You stick with somebody.
- 37:25Then all of a sudden, boom.
- 37:27Jordan Walker right now, 299, 11 bombs, 29 RBIs, OPS, 955.
- 37:37Right now, the way he's playing, he's a National League MVP candidate.
- 37:44JJ Weatherholt, one of the top prospects in all of baseball,
- 37:47seven bombs.
- 37:49Alec Burleson, Nolan Gorman, old school vets.
- 37:54Just a good, solid team.
- 38:01So Jordan Walker is a perfect example.
- 38:04It's like, hey, you got to stick with guys.
- 38:06You got to stick with guys.
- 38:10My A's, quick reminder, we are discussing first place problems.
- 38:13That's true.
- 38:14Some teams have the luxury of players and farm systems we got.
- 38:20You're right.
- 38:22That's a good point, my A's, and we rarely agree.
- 38:26Vegas, what's your take on the homestand?
- 38:30Giants and Cardinals.
- 38:32You got two teams on paper that, yay, with their given records,
- 38:37St. Louis has actually records, unbelievable.
- 38:40And the way they're playing is really, really good.
- 38:41I think St. Louis is a really, really good team.
- 38:50I think we got to win each series.
- 38:54We got to keep taking steps forward.
- 38:59If we were to go four and two on the upcoming homestand,
- 39:03I would consider it a huge success.
- 39:05I would be okay if we're three and three,
- 39:08and I would consider two and four a failure.
- 39:11I think the Giants are better when their record is,
- 39:15and I think St. Louis is a team that is starting
- 39:20to get the attention of a lot of people out there.
- 39:24It's the first time this season,
- 39:27this young A's team has faced some sort of adversity.
- 39:32What happens if they say,
- 39:34Wilson, hey, he's out for three months.
- 39:40This A's team is going to be out for three months.
- 39:43What happens if they say,
- 39:45Wilson, hey, he's out for three months.
- 39:48What happens if they say,
- 39:50Wilson, hey, he's out for three months.
- 39:53This A's team has some adversity coming up.
- 39:56You could say that Jacob Wilson
- 39:59is one of their huge leaders, on the field leaders.
- 40:07It would be huge.
- 40:09That would be a huge setback.
- 40:11How will they respond?
- 40:13What kind of leadership does this team have?
- 40:15How is the culture?
- 40:17All that stuff matters
- 40:19when somebody like a Jacob Wilson goes down.
- 40:23We'll see.
- 40:25We'll see.
- 40:30If we get through this,
- 40:33if the A's get through this,
- 40:36they come out the other end,
- 40:38and all of a sudden,
- 40:40we're playing 500 ball,
- 40:43come August, and we're right in the mix of things.
- 40:47Wilson comes back,
- 40:49you got something.
- 40:51You got something.
- 40:54Got a guy over there named Jordan Walker
- 40:57likes to kill baseballs and don't like pitchers.
- 40:59Yeah, you said that.
- 41:01Need Muncie back.
- 41:03Well, yeah, we do.
- 41:06But we need Muncie
- 41:08for who we thought he was going to be,
- 41:10and I think he'll be that guy.
- 41:13But right now,
- 41:15I'll be honest with you, Vegas.
- 41:18If it's between Gelof and Muncie
- 41:21at third base,
- 41:24I'm taking Gelof.
- 41:27Right now, I think
- 41:29Zach Gelof's a better baseball player
- 41:31than Max Muncie.
- 41:34So I'm not quite there
- 41:36as far as we need Muncie back now.
- 41:42Do I want Muncie back?
- 41:44Of course I do.
- 41:46Of course I do.
- 41:48But is he
- 41:50a bigger loss than Jacob Wilson?
- 41:53Not even close.
- 41:57Not even close.
- 42:01We're all right, guys.
- 42:03We're all right.
- 42:0521-19, what was our record last year after 40 games?
- 42:09You said it, 21-19.
- 42:13Muncie comes back.
- 42:15It's going to be a while before we get Muncie back.
- 42:17I don't think we see Muncie back until July.
- 42:21We're in May now.
- 42:24He's probably healthy by
- 42:28June-ish.
- 42:30Has to go to Vegas for a rehab assignment.
- 42:33When he does come back?
- 42:36I'm thinking July, guys.
- 42:38I don't see Muncie coming back before July.
- 42:42I could be wrong.
- 42:45I could be wrong.
- 42:47Asher, do you think we see Bolte on Monday?
- 42:50I sure hope so.
- 42:56It's hard to imagine.
- 42:58Even Bolte went one for four today.
- 43:00He obviously cooled off, but had a 17-stolen base.
- 43:04It's hard to imagine they're not having that conversation.
- 43:16I would think so.
- 43:18I would think so one way or the other.
- 43:21You can't imagine that he won't.
- 43:27Tuesday, here is the schedule, guys.
- 43:29Here is your probable pitchers.
- 43:34Polante Springs
- 43:38on Tuesday.
- 43:40Wednesday, I'm going to the game on Wednesday.
- 43:43Libertor, Matthew Libertor
- 43:47He killed us last year.
- 43:49I think he started against us last year.
- 43:512-1-1, 4.07 ERA against J.T. Ginn.
- 43:55And on Thursday,
- 43:57McGreevy and Jacob Lopez.
- 44:00McGreevy's been pitching.
- 44:022.18 ERA,
- 44:043-2.
- 44:10Yeah.
- 44:14We'll see what happens.
- 44:16Appreciate you guys.
- 44:18Thanks for coming by.
- 44:20That's what we're looking at right now, guys.
- 44:22Hey, listen.
- 44:24Brutal loss today.
- 44:26No one likes it.
- 44:282-1, stinks.
- 44:303-3 road trip.
- 44:32We lost the first two games of the road trip, too.
- 44:34We come back and win three of the next four.
- 44:42Hey,
- 44:43if that's
- 44:45us complaining and crying and being pissed off,
- 44:47let's be complaining and crying and pissed off all year long.
- 44:51So we'll take it.
- 44:53You said it, Andrew.
- 44:553-3. We're all right.
- 44:57We're all right, guys.
- 44:59We can't be mad about that either.
- 45:01I think we're a little bit more frustrated at how today went down.
- 45:04Yeah.
- 45:06I think we're a little bit more.
- 45:08I think we'd feel a lot better
- 45:10if Severino just got rocked.
- 45:11Right?
- 45:13And we lose something like 7-3.
- 45:18Can't complain.
- 45:20Can't complain.
- 45:23So, hey, it's what it is.
- 45:26All good.
- 45:29Cortez didn't get a good jump on that Gelof single.
- 45:33I don't know.
- 45:35I don't know. I thought
- 45:36I thought anybody was going to really have a hard time scoring on that one, Andrew.
- 45:41I thought it was a solid hit up the middle.
- 45:44Center fielder made a good play,
- 45:46fielded it, and made a good throw.
- 45:48And Cortez is no speedster.
- 45:50I didn't think it was anything it had to do with a jump,
- 45:53or I just think it was a good play, a good throw,
- 45:55and Cortez isn't a speedster,
- 45:57and they gunned him out.
- 45:59I thought it was the right send with two outs.
- 46:01I thought it was the right send with two outs.
- 46:05At certain times, you've just got to tip your cap.
- 46:10He was out by a mile.
- 46:12Surprised it wasn't close to be fair.
- 46:14Gelof didn't hit it hard.
- 46:16I just thought it was a good play.
- 46:18Even when he hit it,
- 46:20I was like, uh-oh, this is going to be close.
- 46:22This is going to be close.
- 46:25So,
- 46:27I don't think there was any type of bad break on that one,
- 46:31or Cortez didn't get a good jump, or whatever.
- 46:36I just thought it was just a good play.
- 46:40You know?
- 46:42I like the send.
- 46:47Baseball.
- 46:49Stupid game. Stupid game, right?
- 46:51Anyway, guys, you take care.
- 46:53You guys have a good night.
- 46:55Got a lot of shows tomorrow.
- 46:57Habit Hunter already posted their show about this Orioles series.
- 47:02Hobbs has a lot to say.
- 47:04Tomorrow's going to be exciting.
- 47:06You got all on green with Robbie and Stud.
- 47:08They're going live tomorrow at 4.30 Pacific Standard Time.
- 47:12Be sure to check that out.
- 47:14My man Straight A's will be around tomorrow.
- 47:16I think there is a good possibility
- 47:21we get a little budget baseball action.
- 47:24Excited about that.
- 47:27Rance, live on Tuesday.
- 47:30Live watch party on Tuesday.
- 47:33Be sure you join.
- 47:35We might have some prizes, some giveaways,
- 47:37like we had two weeks ago.
- 47:39Hopefully Rance don't go with three.
- 47:42He's due for a win.
- 47:44But we'll see what happens.
- 47:47Bobby, A's better not sleep on the cards.
- 47:51Yeah, I don't think they will.
- 47:53They are way better than people gave them credit for.
- 47:56They played the Padres hard in that series.
- 48:00I mean, I don't think there's anything secret right now
- 48:05about the Cardinals.
- 48:07I think they're playing great baseball.
- 48:09I think they're second place in the Central.
- 48:12But I think right now they're a playoff team.
- 48:15Let's check it out.
- 48:1823-17.
- 48:22Yeah, we're good.
- 48:23We're good.
- 48:2510-10 at home, 13-7 on the road.
- 48:29God, that Central's killing it.
- 48:32Jeez.
- 48:34Thank God we didn't play in the NL Central.
- 48:37Later, Andrew.
- 48:40Yes, sir.
- 48:42I'll be here after game one on Tuesday night.
- 48:45Wednesday I'm not going to be out the old game Sacramento.
- 48:49West Sacramento, excuse me.
- 48:50But hey, check out the channel tomorrow, guys.
- 48:53There's a lot of good shows coming on tomorrow.
- 48:56Mariners swept Cards in three on that third turf.
- 48:59The M's suck.
- 49:01The A's will take two of three from the Cards.
- 49:04I hope you're right.
- 49:06I hope you're right.
- 49:08Wait, Booney.
- 49:10Okay.
- 49:12I'm going to the game on Wednesday.
- 49:14Yes, sir.
- 49:16I'll be there on Wednesday.
- 49:18You going to be there?
- 49:21If you are, message me on X.
- 49:25Maybe we can hook up.
- 49:27For sure, dude.
- 49:29For sure.
- 49:31Message me on X.
- 49:33Would love that.
- 49:35Take care, fellas.
- 49:37Appreciate you guys.
