- 4:16Dear God. Getting rowdy.
- 4:20Dude's getting tough already. Monday, baby.
- 4:24I feel like we're missing somebody per usual. I feel like we are too.
- 4:29It's just fucking... It's worse than part-time, honestly. Is there a fourth guy? Allegedly.
- 4:36Could have called me. Boy.
- 4:39I don't know. Whatever. Pookie hates us. It's official.
- 4:43It happens. I feel like that list is pretty long. I guess I'll be right here.
- 4:51The list is long the people he hates or what?
- 4:54No, the people that hate us. Oh, well, yeah. It's like never ending now. Yeah. No.
- 5:01Not enough paper in the world for that one.
- 5:05A lot of paper have to do with it. to write down on the people hey me here comes
- 5:12checking it twice oh you can do that on my computer nowadays or a phone technology,
- 5:20We can barely figure out how to get this going every day, let alone do that.
- 5:23Hey, we had, like, no issues today, though. No. It's going better.
- 5:28I should buy some fucking wood to knock on.
- 5:34Well, I seen a post this week and did a little looking into it.
- 5:40I mean, the drought monitor for, like, the Dakotas and even,
- 5:45like, the whole prairie pothole region is looking a lot better than it was in
- 5:50the middle of winter or even last year.
- 5:53Yeah, that's good news. So I can only imagine with how much rain we've had in
- 5:57the past two weeks, three weeks.
- 6:00Yeah, I mean, I'm in southwest Minnesota right now, and it rained this morning,
- 6:06and now it's raining again this afternoon.
- 6:09Just fucking hail him.
- 6:12That's thunder, and I might need my thunder buddy.
- 6:16Thank God she's laying next to me.
- 6:19I love to see it, though, right? I mean, obviously across all states,
- 6:23but monitor Iowa, a little closer to any other states, but it's good to have the moisture.
- 6:27I mean, rain every day is kind of blue to me, obviously. It's springtime,
- 6:30and everyone's looking forward to nice weather, but that was much, much needed.
- 6:34And we're making good rains, too, for keeping moisture.
- 6:37Yeah, for sure. Not productive for racing, though. we've been getting straight fucked on out.
- 6:44You can't spend more money every weekend? No, I still spend it.
- 6:48There's something all waked on our shit.
- 6:51Check it out. You okay? Are you having a stroke? Yeah, kind of.
- 6:57No, I'll do something real quick.
- 7:00Anyways, this week is going to be kind of a fun one topic.
- 7:03It's kind of crazy what happened, but we're going to talk about the Armistice
- 7:09Day blizzard of 1940 and what all transpired and kind of led into that day.
- 7:16It's a really crazy story, to be honest, of how that happened and what all happened
- 7:23that day. Yeah, that was some wild shit.
- 7:26I hadn't known anything about it until you wrote up and started doing a little
- 7:31of these, obviously, deep diving into it and some articles and stuff like that.
- 7:35And it's not something I could ever imagine being involved in or prepared for.
- 7:42No, there's, I mean, well, back then, I mean, this was, this happened November 11th of 1940.
- 7:48So there was no technology to tell you, hey, a storm's coming,
- 7:55seek shelter immediately.
- 7:58There now nowadays unless you don't have service your
- 8:01your phone's telling you relatively before a storm comes in and everybody knows
- 8:06usually a couple days ahead of time i was gonna say your phone's telling you
- 8:10like a day or two at a time like yeah you're gonna get fucked yeah constantly
- 8:14muting it turn it off go away leave me alone yeah i know i'm gonna get fucked just let it happen,
- 8:20just let it happen just let it happen no
- 8:24i mean so on that day it really i know that like looking back at the data on
- 8:31that day it was it had been abnormally warm that winter up until that point
- 8:37and it i think it started out at 55 or 56 degrees kind of what i from what i'd seen,
- 8:44And then all of a sudden, you know, it started, it got real windy and started raining.
- 8:50And next thing you know, the rain turned to snow and it just got worse and worse.
- 8:54And back then, I mean, these old boys are in skiffs. Yeah.
- 9:00Not only skiffs, they're in doubled up bird lap. They don't have the shinka
- 9:05and first light and everything else we have now.
- 9:07You know, they were putting bread bags on their socks. Yeah.
- 9:11Yeah, there was no waiters, and,
- 9:15either. I mean, you were wearing whatever you would work out for you,
- 9:19but there wasn't such a thing as a neoprene or breathable waiter. None of that shit.
- 9:25No, if August China's in, he'll probably talk about the rubber ball waiters or some shit.
- 9:31That was back when he first started. So that had to be about that fact.
- 9:34I don't know. He was probably in his 30s or 40s at that point in time,
- 9:38so he should be able to tell us.
- 9:41I'm glad you picked up what I was putting down. Yeah. No, I can't.
- 9:45He definitely lived it. I'm sure he was on the river that day,
- 9:47stranded for a little bit.
- 9:50No. No LP heaters. Yeah, Trent. Fun fact. They didn't have heaters.
- 9:54He doesn't have it half the time either. No, we never. Well, it's equipment.
- 9:59We're equipped with it. It just does not work.
- 10:02I'm unequipping the boat. What? Yeah, dog. It's always like the 40-degree days
- 10:07you get on the tank and then when we know it's going to be butt-ass fucking cold and raiding.
- 10:12It's not my fault that you fuckers use the heater when it's 40 and 50 degrees
- 10:17out because it's chilly.
- 10:19Well, it's not that it's chilly and we could stay warm but it's so much nicer
- 10:22than having a t-shirt and long downs than to be bottled up like that.
- 10:26Yeah, I mean, that'd just be dumb to freeze your fucking hands off for no reason.
- 10:29Just crack that little heater on and get you a little A little fire cooking
- 10:33up front of me and good to go.
- 10:35Oh, yeah. There's that.
- 10:38Wah. Get over it. Bring your own propane. Anywho. I've even offered several times.
- 10:45Like, hey, dog, we need heat for tomorrow. Nope. Nope, we're good.
- 10:49Yeah, no, there's definitely going to need a reserve tank in somebody's vehicle on standby.
- 10:53Oh, my God. We'll just go back to the ranch to get it. No, that's fine.
- 10:55I'll just have somebody else check it before we put the load in.
- 10:58And if it seems like it's less than half, we should have put a new tank in.
- 11:03Yeah I expect you guys to have plenty of tanks on hand this next year,
- 11:06I told you I'm dumping a whole fucking paycheck on them well Zach said he's
- 11:10gonna have a truck bed full of propane every day yep so if we run out somebody
- 11:15can just buy a thousand gallon tank just to strap in the bed oh hell yeah we can just fill,
- 11:20hell yeah I'll top them off every day yeah that'll work,
- 11:23why don't we actually do that? That's fucking genius. Nothing we do is we're
- 11:27not we're not the genius type.
- 11:29I got to go through the bad stuff and then bitch about it later.
- 11:33Fair. Yeah, it's more fun that way.
- 11:36Yeah, I missed this day.
- 11:38Crazy shit. What they say it was like 50 or 60 degree temp swim within a few hours.
- 11:44Yeah, within within three hours, it went down to almost sub zero temperatures.
- 11:50And then by the before dark, you know, it It was wind chills as low as 55 below.
- 11:56Yeah. Which is... That was fucking wild. Dude.
- 12:00I think it was like a four-hour swing, and it was night and day.
- 12:04I mean, could you imagine going out in the morning, being in a t-shirt and shorts,
- 12:07basically, at 55 degrees, 60 degrees, and then halfway through your hunt,
- 12:13you're needing every clothing you've ever owned?
- 12:17Yeah, and you always said, didn't bring it? No. No, because the weather,
- 12:22there was no forecast of this storm.
- 12:25Like, I did read one thing where they had forecasted a potential slight storm,
- 12:31like nothing major at all.
- 12:33And it blew up into what it did. And they were nowhere close on it.
- 12:39Well, everybody's predicting that cold front. I mean, we're going to do,
- 12:42they did what we would all do, right? Get excited and go hunt because you got that bush coming down.
- 12:47I know me and you talked about it the other night, but I was like,
- 12:50oh, why can't you just, I mean, I think I would feel the difference and want
- 12:53to leave, but she got, you know, they talked about how many hundreds of ducks
- 12:58just coming in over their shoulder, laying in front of them.
- 13:00It was like, oh, they're fucking bailing you. It's a very fair point.
- 13:03I'm not going to leave yet.
- 13:05Well, and that's, that's the next, kind of like the next line here that we have
- 13:08wrote down is, it was called the push, you know, and it was,
- 13:12as the front arrived, the sky's just filled full of ducks. So,
- 13:17there's not many people that are going to just like, eh, we better just go home.
- 13:21We'll just leave all these ducks be and not shoot our ducks real quick.
- 13:24You know, at that point in time, you're not thinking it's going to get as bad as it was.
- 13:28So as these thousands of ducks start flying, these hunters are like,
- 13:32oh my God, like, this is awesome.
- 13:34One of our best days we've ever seen, kill our ducks and go home.
- 13:38Little did they know that it was just, that was just the tip of the iceberg of what was coming.
- 13:43Yeah, everything was great in finding Danny until the go home part.
- 13:47Like I was reading, there's a couple of, you know, they start trying to make
- 13:50their way down the channel or whatever, and you can't see 15 feet in front of
- 13:54me because of the snow, so it's still white out.
- 13:56Right. And the waves, obviously. I think, what did they say?
- 13:59It was like up to 80-mile-an-hour gusts or something like that. I got to root down here.
- 14:06So, I mean, little skiffs and dinghies and a combination of not being able to
- 14:09see. We're probably not making it very far.
- 14:12Right. No. I mean, well, and put it this way, too. So, when that wind picked
- 14:16up, because I would imagine it probably picked up very rapidly to where you
- 14:20either got to leave stuff behind or by the time you get done picking the gear you have out.
- 14:25I mean, back then, they had wooden duck decoys, so they were only throwing out
- 14:29probably a dozen or so back then.
- 14:33But within no time, the temperatures dropped 50-plus degrees.
- 14:38Waves were growing up to 5 foot and more in areas.
- 14:44On the Mississippi River where a lot of the guys passed away and died,
- 14:47that northwest wind that it was coming from is terrible. It blows right down that river.
- 14:53And then, I mean, then you got a snow. They had 27 inches of snow reported in
- 14:59areas and drifts that were 20 feet deep.
- 15:02So with the equipment they had back then, they were not set up to deal with
- 15:07any of the above circumstances.
- 15:10No, we'd be lucky today to get through that, honestly, I think.
- 15:14Yeah, I mean. We'd have to have your boats, or we'd be fucked.
- 15:19I mean, getting back to the boat ramp, we'd be just fine in pretty much any
- 15:25situation, unless we're out in the middle of the ocean. Then we're cooked.
- 15:28Getting home from there is a different story, though. Yeah. No,
- 15:31I mean, if it's snowing that much, where you can't see anything,
- 15:34and the roads are drifting over, and you're probably sleeping in the truck at
- 15:40the boat ramp at that point.
- 15:43So, that leads to my next point. we wouldn't have left we would have stayed
- 15:46there and hunted and hopefully brought enough food,
- 15:49True. Fair point. Hopefully Cade brought a bunch of Little Debbie snacks because we will need them.
- 15:56You already know I say strap, dude. The problem is he ate all the crackers while
- 16:01I was calling ducks and he was busy bunching crackers.
- 16:04You can eat us all on the protein peanut butter thing, jelly.
- 16:07I bet they are, but sometimes we've got lots of peanut butter and cheese crackers
- 16:12and you're done snarking them down before we're leaving. That's right.
- 16:17Cade, you got any more of those crackers, Cade? No.
- 16:23I'm gonna break an egg. Don't tell me, dude. Every time I eat the button crackers,
- 16:28we just start wrecking shit.
- 16:30I'm telling you this, I'm gonna get cases of those crackers for you next year.
- 16:33You can just keep eating them nonstop so we kill out by eight o'clock every day.
- 16:37Be fat as fuck, though. God damn.
- 16:41Well, the good news is we'll be done hunting early enough. You can go straight to the gym.
- 16:46Yeah, right, dude. We'll still have to be there fucking and ass-cracking zero dark 30.
- 16:51What do you mean? I'll take a nap. Take a nap all day. So take a nap.
- 16:56Yeah, but I'm going to start my nap before I go to the gym. It's just the time to get a whole day nap.
- 17:02I know how this works. I've done it once or twice. Like you've gone to the gym
- 17:06once or twice or taken a nap once or twice?
- 17:09Taken a nap once or twice. Okay. I've never been to the gym. What do you mean?
- 17:15I don't even know where one of those things are.
- 17:21So like in the next crazy thing, you know, with all that transpired to get this storm going,
- 17:28it left hundreds of hunters stranded on the river or wherever they were hunting,
- 17:34whether it was a lake or pothole, even, I mean, even the pothole guys probably with the intense snow.
- 17:39Cause like guarantee those guys stuck it out all the way till the end.
- 17:43Cause they don't got to fight waves back home, but then it starts snowing and it's,
- 17:47white-out conditions, can't see nothing. Some of those guys probably struggled even getting home, too.
- 17:56Obviously, that was back in the day before you had Onyx, so if you can't see
- 17:59where the fuck you're going, good luck walking back to the trail.
- 18:02You better hope you know that place like the back of your hand.
- 18:06When did four-wheel drive come out?
- 18:08Well, that's just... Because I'd be curious if they had four-wheel drive back then.
- 18:13I think vehicles were front-wheel drive back then, weren't they?
- 18:17Yeah, they should have been.
- 18:19I don't know. I wish August was here. You could tell us.
- 18:22Mass production on four-wheel drive began in the 1950s.
- 18:28So, there might have been some early forms of it then, but if it's mass production
- 18:33and it starts until the 50s, it's probably not. You're going to say 50? 50?
- 18:381950? No. 1950. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Oh, I thought you said 1950.
- 18:45But it says between 1950 and 1928 was the first highly produced four-wheel drive
- 18:51vehicle, over 10,000 built.
- 18:53And then they used it mainly for military vehicles through the 20s and 30s.
- 18:59So I'm guessing they still didn't have many four-wheel drive vehicles.
- 19:01Yeah, so it was probably pretty uncommon that you had four-wheel drive in the
- 19:0740s even still at that point. Yeah.
- 19:10Which is wild. I mean, you think about it. I'm like, you better hope you got
- 19:14a horse and buggy tied up out there so he'll get you home.
- 19:17Now we just push a fucking button in the pickup and we're like,
- 19:19all right, we can go almost wherever we want.
- 19:21Yeah. Until you're coming on a boxcar boat ramp and trying to make a corner
- 19:24and you can't make the corner.
- 19:26I'm glad you said it so I didn't have to.
- 19:29Oh, that was terrible that day. I didn't know I was going to get out of that.
- 19:32I was, I couldn't get even, I forget who hooked to the front of me and pulled
- 19:37me out was it who was it I think it was Curtis,
- 19:40was it it could have been I think it was I think it was Curtis.
- 19:47It probably was Curtis I think I know it took everything we had with his truck
- 19:50to get me to even move and at that point the ditch on the right is fairly deep
- 19:55I was worried about the boat going into that ditch,
- 19:59so we made it out that would have been no good no it would have been terrible,
- 20:04getting that big heavy motherfucker back out of there yeah,
- 20:08I've been calling you guys to come back so we can have all the vehicles hooked
- 20:11to it and try and get it out,
- 20:13listen if I hook yours to mine and his to yours and his to his and we all just
- 20:18take a running start we can get it out,
- 20:21I've been a part of a couple of those but it was but none,
- 20:26Yeah. Yeah. So like the hunters.
- 20:30Real estate would do that with somebody's rental. I can't. News that was.
- 20:34No. I don't know what you're talking about. No. I don't. I don't recall.
- 20:38I do recall a very nice clean pickup getting absolutely fucking destroyed that day.
- 20:45Yeah, I recall that, but I don't know why he got it muddy. It's weird.
- 20:48I tried to tell him that's good how in there.
- 20:52I'm sure you did the whole way. It just sounded like so much fun.
- 20:56Like, yeah, let's just go bomb this truck out real quick.
- 20:59Just left the car wash. Let's go straight to the gravel road where there's no
- 21:03gravel left. Yeah, the fucking mud room.
- 21:08So, yeah, even the ones that are, I mean, if you're talking to Sarmista State
- 21:12Blizzard specifically, even the ones that were lucky enough to get back to the
- 21:14boat room, Probably had a hell of a time getting back home from there.
- 21:19Yeah. Well, I know, like, there was a lot of people that did attempt to get
- 21:25back and didn't make it back for,
- 21:28like, and then had some of them slam back, and then the others,
- 21:30there were some people that drowned, obviously,
- 21:32but some people that did make it ashore still had the next fight of getting
- 21:38a fire built to heat them, like, warm themselves up, because they wouldn't have
- 21:41made it in their vehicle to where they were going.
- 21:45That's like one of the accounts that
- 21:47I was reading was when I got to him there was a circle
- 21:50running that deep of snow because he just kept running in circles trying to
- 21:54keep his body temp up and that's a lot better than a lot of guys who have done
- 21:57they would try to you know try to hunker down or whatever you know read a couple
- 22:01of where guys were flipping over their boats and trying to use that for shelter
- 22:04and that's fine blocks the wind in the snow but doesn't block the cold temps yeah.
- 22:11I mean at least it breaks the wind yeah But, I mean, you're still going to be cold either way.
- 22:17And then, like I've seen the people that were stranded out there on the islands
- 22:21use wooden decoys to build a fire with and burn those underneath their boat
- 22:27that they're hiding in for heat.
- 22:31So that's wild. Think about now, if you couldn't burn the plastic decoys,
- 22:34that wouldn't be any fun. You'd be definitely dead then.
- 22:37Yeah, not the cold that kills us.
- 22:41Melting lead from the decoy weights and then the plastic decoy, you're just cooked.
- 22:46Then you go back and, like, if you think about it, we couldn't burn almost anything we wear either.
- 22:52No? Oh, really? Like Zortex, you don't want to burn that shit.
- 22:56No. They just sit into nothing versus actually burning.
- 23:00So we'd be really relying on that propane heater that has no propane right they
- 23:07don't need propane just carry a bunch of big lighters.
- 23:13Nobody smokes anymore yeah there's that I do have like four or five lighters
- 23:20in the boat though that's and if you know read a couple of them where the guys
- 23:24didn't get fire started or didn't have the boat or anything like that I know one of them,
- 23:29a while that I would have never thought to do, but he dug himself into a muskrat then.
- 23:34He did die. Muskrat wasn't the savior, but... Whatever.
- 23:41That's the thing, too. You gotta think about when you're... You know you're gonna fucking die.
- 23:47The shit that comes into your head to try to do is insane.
- 23:51Your survival instincts are gonna kick in, just like a dog or any kind of animal.
- 23:55That survival instinct in a human is going to kick in when you're on the edge. Yeah.
- 24:03And you're going to do shit that you didn't know you was possible for you to
- 24:05do to try and survive. Yeah.
- 24:09But I don't know. I did. So like the total from what I've seen,
- 24:15there's not like, there's not a for sure total on hunters that passed away from this freak storm,
- 24:21but it's between 50 to 85 hunters that passed away and then the total death
- 24:28from the whole storm was around like 155 plus or minus people,
- 24:33which is, that's wild. That's, that's just one storm.
- 24:38Of just a snowstorm, too, and going from warm to cold. Overnight.
- 24:42Yeah. How many people died overnight? Was that many?
- 24:45And it's, obviously, we're touching on the duck hunter thing more than anything,
- 24:48but, like, was it three large vessels on Lake Michigan?
- 24:54So, like, I don't know how many fishermen or crew members died there.
- 24:57And then there's, they said multiple other smaller boats that capsized and sank.
- 25:02So, it's like, yeah, we said 155, but how many bodies are at the bottom of Lake
- 25:06Michigan? ability that you can't account for. Yeah. No.
- 25:10And back then, they didn't have a way to, they didn't have a search and rescue
- 25:13that has the capabilities with their technology. And they didn't have Life360,
- 25:16so I didn't, you couldn't tell if dad was out of the boat that day or not.
- 25:19Well, the good news is I don't have Life360, so, I don't know what he said. Didn't come through.
- 25:30That's the other thing, too. Like, there was no, like, automated system for
- 25:34tracking people at all. Like, even, identities back then.
- 25:38If it wasn't for your family saying that you were missing, nobody fucking knew you were out there.
- 25:44Well, that one group of kids, like 1914 and 18 or something like that,
- 25:50there was an older guy that took his younger cousins out.
- 25:52Or an older kid, took his younger cousins out, and nobody knew what was going
- 25:56on until the dad came home and realized they were all out hunting.
- 26:00They said that the dad got a couple guys and went to try to look for them,
- 26:04but even then, I mean, imagine Mary or Maggie going, oh, they're hunting Lake Red Rock.
- 26:09You should go find them. Where in the hell are you going to start?
- 26:13Yeah. Nah. They wouldn't... They know where we're at, but they don't know where we're at, ever. Yeah.
- 26:21They know where the trucks are at. That's about it.
- 26:25Yeah maybe they might not be able to find it yeah no shit.
- 26:33But like nowadays like they I know they use live scope and all these sonar and
- 26:39stuff like that to help find a missing person or a body whenever it turns to that kind of search but,
- 26:47they just didn't have anything back then so they're just literally going off of divers,
- 26:53and if I'm looking for a body floating on her up against a bank somewhere.
- 26:58The number could have been worse. It could be way worse than what they're predicting.
- 27:05Did you guys see the deal about the efforts of Max Conrad and John Bob Bean?
- 27:15They're pilots that were flying around and doing supply drops to people that
- 27:22were stranded to help them out. and also to find people,
- 27:27I didn't until you brought it up the other night, and then I kind of did a little
- 27:30looking into it today. It was kind of wild.
- 27:33I mean, obviously, it's something you don't have to do, right?
- 27:37Yeah, I feel like that goes back to the whole survival instinct of it.
- 27:41Like, they knew those people were fucked. Yeah.
- 27:45I mean, even then, you think that storm rolled through, but I can't imagine
- 27:49even the day after the lens subsided that much that it couldn't have been comfortable
- 27:53flying around either. No.
- 27:55No. Well, I mean, they were flying around in the 50, 60 mile an hour winds,
- 27:59and that was back then, or even nowadays, still tiny aircraft that they're flying around in.
- 28:05So that ain't, that's no easy task either, what they were doing.
- 28:08Yeah, so it was a Piper, right?
- 28:12Yeah, Piper aircraft. Yeah, those were not big airplanes. No.
- 28:17Again, we are talking about 1940, so I'm not sure how many big airplanes there were.
- 28:22I think it was mostly military back then.
- 28:27But I know they did get nominated for, I don't even know how to say this medal,
- 28:32but they got nominated for a medal for heroism.
- 28:36For Carnegie? I don't even know. Something like that.
- 28:41But just for their efforts that year, they were flying the Mississippi River
- 28:45in the backwaters near Winona and then numerous other places too.
- 28:48I know they were all over trying to do what they can to help the people that
- 28:53were, I mean, helpless. At that point.
- 28:57That's hard to find in this day and age i couldn't imagine back then especially
- 29:01like we were saying with not i mean i don't know how many airplanes there were
- 29:05back then but it couldn't be very many,
- 29:08just to offer up and like yeah we'll go look for people and drop off where we can right,
- 29:14definitely a wild time mre crackers and burlap sacks for you know telling like
- 29:19today where if they were going to drop anything off it would be medical supplies
- 29:23or you know any of this food that's actually like high-density high-well probably was that back then.
- 29:29But they're probably those little bricks of nasty shit that they,
- 29:33for the 1930s. When you're dying, you don't get a lot of dollars. That's the truth.
- 29:37It should have plenty of duck to eat, though. Goddamn. Dude, could you imagine?
- 29:42I bet you that migration that day was insane. Yeah.
- 29:48I've hunted a few pretty good migration days, and I've been pretty lucky in
- 29:53the past on hitting some stuff right to see some massive pushes of ducks.
- 29:58But something like that, where you know when it's warm winter,
- 30:03so some of the ducks that aren't necessarily pushing because of the schedule
- 30:11or the calendar, birds, you know.
- 30:15I imagine it was one hell of a waterfowl push that day to where they've seen
- 30:20shit that they've never seen before and never will see again probably.
- 30:24Yeah, Mother Nature straight up said, fuck you ducks, you are moving.
- 30:29If you don't move, you're dead. Yeah, even if you do move, you are dead.
- 30:35I think one of the reports or one of the accounts I was reading,
- 30:40one of the guys hunting said he was sitting there waiting for ducks to come
- 30:44in because all of a sudden it was just by the hundreds, mallards are dropping
- 30:48over the shores and just landing right where he's hunting. He's like,
- 30:51oh shit, this is awesome.
- 30:53And then obviously he had a hell time getting home. But, you know,
- 30:55can you imagine it's sitting there and it's like, and those birds had to just
- 30:58be so dead tired that the second they found some sort of covered,
- 31:03you know, covered water,
- 31:06covered water, protected water, get you out of the wind a little bit down in the hole.
- 31:11And they just are like, I don't really give a shit. If you're out there swimming, I'm going to land here.
- 31:18Yeah i mean obviously on any high wind
- 31:21day you always find them birds concentrated
- 31:25in slack water areas where there's just no wind or no waves to i mean we see
- 31:30it all the time in our lake when when we get a hard west or northwest wind them
- 31:34birds are getting kicked off the lake by hundreds at a time and yeah you know
- 31:39not a lot of guys go because they know that it's gonna be
- 31:42and they don't want to sink a boat or take the chance of drowning.
- 31:46So I would say on a Saturday, in one of those days, you're lucky to see 10 boats
- 31:52at the ramp at most on even the busiest time of year on those really windy days,
- 31:57which is good because even today,
- 32:00the boats are pretty good size nowadays compared to what they used to be by far. Yeah.
- 32:07They're still not. I mean, mud motors are a little bit less reliable than an outboard.
- 32:11So all it really takes is your motor to give out. You're still going to take
- 32:16that chance of drowning or flipping, capsizing.
- 32:20But there's some days, like, even with your little boat, we're like,
- 32:24no, I have to stay at home. We'll throw a decoy at the big boat.
- 32:29And I don't think it's, I mean, you know, we're not trying to take away anybody else's drive.
- 32:33Like, yeah, we know you want to go out. But when I was 18, I didn't have the
- 32:36means for a big boat like that.
- 32:38So you get these kids out there that are 18, 20 years old that don't have the
- 32:41means for a big boat like we're in.
- 32:44It's like, well, you know, we've seen a couple of kids this year on the Highland
- 32:46Day. And it's like, oh, man, a 14-footer was a long tail.
- 32:50I just don't know if I'd be running that thing around too much today.
- 32:54And that goes back to just younger kids always think they're fucking bulletproof.
- 32:59And I can't say that I wasn't one of them, but. I still am.
- 33:04Yeah i was 30 you really have to think
- 33:07about it we'll try to god damn i'm about to blow my hair down about
- 33:10we've said it a million times on this podcast too like if
- 33:13you're even questioning if you can make it out and back in the same day don't
- 33:18go there's no doubt in the world that's worth that shit if you if you have a
- 33:22doubt in your mind about like uh should i do that or not like you probably shouldn't
- 33:27i mean you can go to like there's been days where even i've gone to the ramp,
- 33:32like when I'm, say we're froze out of the slack or the shallow areas,
- 33:37and I'll go to the boat ramp and I'm like, eh.
- 33:40That's more fun than I want to deal with right now.
- 33:43Like, I'm just gonna go home and go hunt a field.
- 33:46Because that's always an option too, on those high wind days and those high,
- 33:49like the weather days when it's getting cold and pushing birds,
- 33:52the fields are almost always, like, you're a better bet anyways. If you can find one.
- 33:57Yeah, a lot of people, I mean, I know it sucks when it's a little bit chillier or like freezing up, but.
- 34:04Even seen it on like the warmer high wind days like dude just don't hunt a fucking
- 34:09walk-in spot it's not gonna kill you i promise you're way safer to walk in and
- 34:15get a little sweat going then,
- 34:18flipping a fucking 12 or 14 foot boat for well that that'll be what's nice about
- 34:23that coal creek area because it's gonna be an area no matter the weather you
- 34:28can go and hunt it like yeah it could be 100 mile an hour winds.
- 34:32You just gotta worry about trees getting broke over at that point.
- 34:35But you're not gonna worry about no waves. You can hunt it if you want any day.
- 34:39I will say, not knowing if you're gonna make it back. I've had one of those situations.
- 34:45Not due to wind, but the first time I ran over with Tyler, you ripped on that big boat.
- 34:49And I came back into Tyler. I was like, we're ripping down the river. How, mock Jesus.
- 34:56I can't see anything. I don't know how Tyler can see anything.
- 34:59I'm like, is it? I'm going to die on this revert today.
- 35:03Grow up. I'll do now. Now I'm excited about it. I'm like, let's go faster. Yeah, dude.
- 35:08I'm telling you, right? I've been over with him. I was like,
- 35:10I've never built this guy on a boat before in my life. And he's whipping down there.
- 35:13That was how mine was, too, the first time I ever hunted with him.
- 35:15And he said, hold on. So I kind of loosely grabbed, you know? Yep.
- 35:20Same thing. I ended up on my fucking ass in the back of the boat. And I'm like, holy shit.
- 35:25I tell you what. But everybody that it's their first time hunting with me,
- 35:30I tell them, like, hey, you guys ready? Like, grab onto something.
- 35:33Always come rolling to the back of the boat because I don't ever actually grab
- 35:36onto something because when I get on it, I'm going from zero throttle to 100% of throttle.
- 35:41I don't do zero to 100% really slowly. It's all gas, no brakes.
- 35:46I love it because when you say it, I watch what they do with their hands and
- 35:49they just do the light thing. I'm like, idiot.
- 35:53Alright, that's easy shit.
- 35:55Need to get a camera set up in the blind to record those takeoffs some mornings
- 35:59when we have new people with us because it never fails. They're rolling through the blind.
- 36:03I still think the funniest one
- 36:05was That day Daniel showed up late and hung over Ran his truck out of fuel.
- 36:13And Daniel had hunted out of the boat before Tyler goes, alright, you guys ready?
- 36:16And I watched Daniel's hand just do one of those lip things And I'm like,
- 36:19oh fuck, here he comes He was standing right in front of me And he flipped past
- 36:23me and rolled back to the back of the boat And I was like, holy fuck,
- 36:30Couldn't help with the name for sure dude the entire boat right out there we
- 36:33went a ways back there that day too the entire boat right out there he's fucking
- 36:38ghost white and I'm like if he pukes in this boat how's it gonna kill him,
- 36:43Yeah, he was riding the struggle bus. You can hear waders or you're swimming
- 36:46back. He was not in good shape.
- 36:51That's better for hanging over in a nice cold boat. I'll tell you that. That is for sure.
- 36:56Dude, there was one day in Nebraska a few years ago on a trip.
- 37:00We met up with Chris Barr and then me and Corey Swan went and drank with Chris
- 37:04till like one o'clock in the morning.
- 37:07And we were getting up at like 2.33 to go hunting every day.
- 37:11So we were normally going to bed at like seven.
- 37:13Well, we decided it'd be a great idea to stay up and drink with those guys that
- 37:17are sleeping until 8 and then coming out.
- 37:20I woke up and got in the truck, and I'm like, hmm, this probably isn't a good
- 37:24idea. We should probably just go back to bed.
- 37:27Trevor looked at me, and he's like, how are you feeling? I was like,
- 37:30you want to drive for a little bit? He drove to the boat ramp that day.
- 37:34Get there, and he got out of the truck and started getting stuff ready because
- 37:38they all knew what needed to be done, and I just sat there. Like,
- 37:42oh, I'm not looking forward to this.
- 37:45Finally, finally got up and got moving, got everything ready,
- 37:49put the boat on the water.
- 37:50And I was like, all right, here we go. Took off. And as soon as that cold air
- 37:54smacked me in the face, I was golden.
- 37:57It was like a brand new person all of a sudden. Oh, yeah.
- 38:00I mean, it was that year was cold on that trip. So it woke me right up and it
- 38:05wiped that hangout hangover out of the system.
- 38:09I'll tell you what, even like knowing what you're getting into with that little
- 38:13bow, if you have a hangover, by the time you get that fucker in the water and
- 38:16you know what you have to do here in a minute, it's gone.
- 38:19Yeah, no, you're just ready at that point. You're like, all right, go.
- 38:23Like we're about to do some fuck shit. I got to get my shit together.
- 38:28It's like your body's like, oh fuck, I'm going to get ready for this shit. We're about to get wet.
- 38:35Trent did say something too. He said, you know, there was a day this year where
- 38:39he said he wasn't going to go out and he knew six boats that sunk that day alone,
- 38:45which is, it's wild that it still happens today, but also people that just want
- 38:51to keep going, even though they probably should take a day off or go find a
- 38:55different area to hunt. That's not going to be a big body of water.
- 38:59That's the wild thing. Like we have so many resources and even a little bit
- 39:03of time on a lake a couple of different times.
- 39:06You know, like what winds are super shitty for that lake. Yeah.
- 39:11Yeah. Like for us, anything that's like West Northwest, you're not going to
- 39:15have a good time on the boat ride. No.
- 39:19It's going to be absolutely awful every time. Yeah.
- 39:23Especially for me. I like those boat rides.
- 39:26It's fun. I like it whenever I back a wave head on and it comes tidal waving
- 39:29over the front it's a blast yeah it's great yeah it always seems to be like
- 39:3430 fucking one degrees that day so I always get soaked and then I'm like no
- 39:38I got icicles dripping down my face,
- 39:41my beard gain's like five pounds cause I'm like this heist out of here I've
- 39:46had days where I've gotten to the spot and I can't unzip my jacket cause it's
- 39:49frozen and my everything's frozen I'm like oh now what,
- 39:54sit there for a couple trying to chip it off so I can unzip my jacket and take
- 39:58it off because if I if I set up decoys with everything that I wore for the boat
- 40:02ride I'm gonna be dead I'll be sweating my tits off and it'll be hotter than shit yeah.
- 40:10You'd be hot fucking t-shirt 40 below I've got some guys here to whisper when
- 40:16chunks and crocs no shit when we gotta put decoys out I'll fucking die seriously
- 40:21you gotta get the heater on,
- 40:24remember opening day a few years ago when I laid in the back of the boat with
- 40:27the dogs because you guys had the heaters ripping and I'm like,
- 40:29there ain't no way I'm getting that blind right now.
- 40:32It was fucking hilarious. He was in the back of the boat with his waders rolled down to his ankles.
- 40:37He was laying on like, I think we have like a piece of burlap or something he was laying on.
- 40:41It's a hydro-turst mat. Yeah, just to stay dry.
- 40:45And he's back there like, you motherfuckers are nuts. He kept bitching that
- 40:49the heat was blowing off the back of the boat over to him. It was. No.
- 40:54No. I was sitting back there with Ellie, and Ellie's like, what are you doing
- 40:57back here? This is my spot. Get out of here.
- 41:01Oh, shoot. Both of them, when we stand up to shoot or look around or just stretch
- 41:05legs, they'll stand up and I'm like, ooh, that's cold. Yeah.
- 41:08We're back down in the hole.
- 41:10I'm going to stretch out a long way, not, oh. No.
- 41:14I think we'll go ahead and move into the second half of this where the question
- 41:19is, is like, could another one of these Armistice Day blizzards happen again?
- 41:25And I, our first initial thought, I truly don't think that anything like this
- 41:31could ever necessarily happen to the magnitude that it happened back then, today.
- 41:38No, I would agree. I mean, I think there's a lot of several,
- 41:41I mean, there's several factors that have changed from then to now.
- 41:45I don't mean, don't just mean in technology, I mean in everything,
- 41:48right? But I don't say, I just don't see it actually happening.
- 41:52Like, I could see, yeah, we get dumped off of snow or yeah, we've got high winds,
- 41:56but I just don't see everything piled up once like that.
- 41:59Yeah I'm definitely no Ed Wilson so I can't say like what brews up that kind
- 42:05of storm but we've seen it in the past fuck you with it the past 10-15 years
- 42:11like it at this point it would never happen like that again,
- 42:15just the storm itself obviously I mean we've gone fucking tenfold on technology
- 42:20and hunting equipment like getting stranded like that wouldn't really I don't
- 42:27think that ever happened to that and if it did do you 99% of guys have a meter.
- 42:32Yeah. Yeah. I mean, well, so like this whole, this whole blizzard in the Armistice
- 42:40Day storm of 1940 led into the whole reform of the entire U.S.
- 42:46Weather Bureau for how they predict weather. And I know it.
- 42:51Happened, like, back then it was based in Chicago, I believe,
- 42:55and now it's got, from then it got moved to Minneapolis because of,
- 42:59this day, and they also implemented 24-hour staffing to stay on top of this
- 43:05stuff to, you know, if something all of a sudden drastically changes for the
- 43:09forecast for tomorrow, they can release that right away and make it public.
- 43:14Right. They send the planes out with chemtrails, so that'd work good.
- 43:18Here we fucking go. No, my God.
- 43:24Geez. I have to say, that's dirt out there. No, yeah. No, I mean,
- 43:27it's, yeah. Whatever you got to do, make yourself feel better. That's fine.
- 43:31Well, I'm not saying it roots it. I'm just saying it seems to be a hot topic lately.
- 43:35Cloud seeding and that stuff has been a hot topic lately.
- 43:39In the past couple, well, really the past five to ten years with all these droughts
- 43:43and wildfires getting worse and worse.
- 43:45Yeah. But, I won't get into that.
- 43:49No, no, no. Let's not wrap it up. Please don't. Yeah, that's crazy.
- 43:54There's so many radical people on both sides of it. It's just a deep, deep dive.
- 44:01We'd have a fucking five-hour podcast if we got into that. Yeah.
- 44:06But with everyone having smartphones and then the technology nowadays,
- 44:11it's just a lot less likely that that could happen.
- 44:15It's never a 0% chance of something like that ever happening again,
- 44:18because no matter what you say people say they can't predict the weather for fucking shit,
- 44:23every time they call for a 30 mile an hour wind and we're going hunting like
- 44:26all excited because we're gonna have a high wind get out there and it's slack
- 44:29water not a spit of wind anywhere and it's cloudy and it's cloudy,
- 44:33Yeah. The only job I'm aware of is you can be wrong 100% of the time.
- 44:38And still have a job. Yeah. They fucking get on him.
- 44:43I mean, I'll say they're more... I would say this, is they don't miss big storms
- 44:49as often as they do on, say, the storm's worse than what they forecasted.
- 44:55It's usually not near as bad as what they forecast.
- 44:58They're generally forecasting it to be way worse than it turns out to be on a general consensus.
- 45:04Which, honestly, I'll take that.
- 45:06Yeah, for sure. I would not try to tell me we're going to have a great fruit-sized
- 45:09hail and 120-mile-hour gusts so that way I can put rat straps on my roof and throw them celery.
- 45:18Rat straps on your roof. Well, yeah, I'll need a thing. I'll just replace it. I'll need to fly it off.
- 45:24It's not my way on the shingles. I know you screw it up. You know what would
- 45:28help with them not getting ripped off again? if you actually trim the fucking edge.
- 45:33I spit on you.
- 45:38Dear God.
- 45:40Jesus. That would help that probably that makes sense. Yeah,
- 45:44that's the word. It definitely won't hurt.
- 45:48It's cold now. I'm good with not doing that. Dear Clown.
- 45:55I can't believe you've been calling it how you see it.
- 45:59But modern day gear nowadays. So like, look at, I mean, just look at waiters alone.
- 46:04Look how far those have came in the past 10 years, let alone,
- 46:08what past, I mean, how long ago they came out with the, maybe longer I say,
- 46:13because I haven't been researching them, but the zip, like the full zip up waiters.
- 46:16I mean, even in the past few years, like how much shit's changed.
- 46:19I mean, they've had zip up waiters for, it's getting close to 10 years now, probably.
- 46:23Yeah. If not over 10 years. But it's definitely gotten way better from year
- 46:29one to year X amount on those.
- 46:33And then, Kate doesn't wear Sitka, but the Sitka and the Shins and even Drake,
- 46:41Bandit, all these gear companies, every year come out with something better
- 46:47than what they had the year before.
- 46:48For whether it's staying warm or dry or warm and dry, you know,
- 46:54there's clothing for every different situation now compared to,
- 46:57I mean, then you just had a jacket.
- 47:00Like you didn't have all these other different options. You had a winter jacket or no jacket.
- 47:07Yeah. The waterproof technology in general has come so fucking far that it's
- 47:12crazy to look back and see how those people hunted back in the day,
- 47:15especially with no heat. I mean, they were fucking diehards.
- 47:20Their only heat was building a campfire. Yeah.
- 47:24I mean, there was no fucking propane. I think they were looking at it in a way
- 47:29different way than we do too, right?
- 47:31I mean, we don't waste our birds by any means. I eat everything I kill.
- 47:36But they were doing it like they had to go kill anything to feed the family.
- 47:42100%. Compared to nowadays, I mean, people are... I hope everybody that goes
- 47:47hunting in general for waterfowl or deer, turkey, all that stuff are in some
- 47:52way, shape or form eating what they're killing.
- 47:55Cause otherwise you're defeating the purpose of going. But.
- 47:59We waterfowl hunt all year. We kill usually quite a few birds,
- 48:03and we just dropped it all off at the meat locker this year instead of doing
- 48:07it ourselves to get processed.
- 48:09And it gets eaten throughout the whole year, whether we have get-togethers or,
- 48:13you know, I ask people, hey, you want some hot sticks, brats,
- 48:16or anything like that? Like, here you go, you have a couple packs or whatever.
- 48:20Pretty much what we kill gets eaten every year. It takes a whole year, but it gets eaten.
- 48:26Yeah, there's hardly shit that goes to waste.
- 48:29No, I mean, you could look in the freezer right now. Most of what I have right
- 48:33now is breakfast sausage.
- 48:34We have a ton of that left, which is perfect because I didn't get any made. Yeah.
- 48:39I mean, yeah. It was definitely a bigger thing back then because they relied
- 48:43on it for survival for their dinner.
- 48:46People nowadays, you can go out and strike out and not kill a duck and just
- 48:50swing through McDonald's and get yourself a McDouble on the way home and then
- 48:56have the shits afterwards.
- 48:58After slowly on the way as you're taking each bite that shit touches your mouth
- 49:03that you have to go in and out.
- 49:09And then I mean it doesn't just go towards like your clothing so as you guys
- 49:13have mentioned and complain about
- 49:15all the time fucking heaters most people that hunt nowadays have a Mr.
- 49:19Buddy heater that they take with them so and then look at the size of boats
- 49:24back then I'd be surprised they had a boat bigger than 12 foot on average.
- 49:30I would say the average boat was 10 to 12 foot and probably 36 inches wide.
- 49:37Maybe, maybe I'm wrong on that,
- 49:38but I doubt it. No, I'd say I don't think you're probably right. Yeah.
- 49:43Nowadays, I would say the average size boat is probably about a 17 foot boat.
- 49:49I mean, because 16 is considered small nowadays.
- 49:5218 is considered to be a little bigger, so I'd say that 17 range would be about the average.
- 49:58Yeah. So you can handle water a lot better in a 16-footer.
- 50:05As Trent just said, a 4-horsepower motor compared to 4D, which is what most
- 50:10mud boaters are nowadays. Yeah.
- 50:13Those both probably couldn't get out of their own way. Yeah.
- 50:16Did you imagine trying to go up rivers?
- 50:21If I had a four-horse motor and I was going upriver, we'd definitely have paddles
- 50:25out too and help them paddle going up the river.
- 50:27Because I'd be like, this is killing me.
- 50:30But we could try it. There's one right behind Zach's head.
- 50:33Yeah. I'm good. I like going fast. There's a reason why I got a 200 and,
- 50:38well, 300-horse motor and a 115.
- 50:42I think we should put the four-and-a-half on your midwif and make it struggle
- 50:46for a year. yeah we could mount it on the front for reverse,
- 50:52we have to mount it to the side just use it for motion of the decoys,
- 50:56if it wasn't so freaking loud that'd be awesome oh it was loud but like I mean
- 51:02talk about motors the reliability in the motors they have now yeah with fuel
- 51:07injection and just modern day technology,
- 51:11you don't got to worry about your motors like if you have a fuel injected motor
- 51:14it's going to start in the cold no problem compared to the old carbureted motors back then.
- 51:20Yeah, good luck. You can sit in there all day and try and crank that thing over
- 51:25or pull start it, not crank it over because I didn't have fucking starters either on those boats.
- 51:29Yeah, I was all, build or pull. Yeah.
- 51:33I don't know. Imagine doing that with ice cold fingers because you have one
- 51:37pair of cotton gloves on wearing them.
- 51:40I'm going to put it in my hand. I want you to pull my fingers over so I can hold it.
- 51:46Probably my strong hand the one he's got better grip with yeah,
- 51:54probably the full finger ones that would be getting handy that would make sense
- 51:58but Zach doesn't do a whole lot of things that make sense sometimes no fair
- 52:05point so ooh speaking of Zach did that picture with the beaver yesterday you posted crack me up,
- 52:13it's one of me holding with a face or stand facing the camera. Yeah.
- 52:19That was a cool picture. I was like, little guy smiling.
- 52:23I was reading the comments after I commented that and somebody else said,
- 52:27looks like you're a long lost cousin or something like that.
- 52:29I saw your comment and then Boyd, Bradshaw, and I was like, you fuckers just teaming up on me.
- 52:39I think, well, these are kind of big, but I don't think they're Bieber-like.
- 52:45I think it was more of the facial features I was talking about. Oh, okay. All right.
- 52:52Oh, my gosh. Was that beaver from back there where you were trapping behind
- 52:58my new place? Yeah, behind your new place. Yeah.
- 53:02Yeah. That's what I figured. I didn't want to run up the creek and drop a tree
- 53:05in your house, so really I was looking up for you two.
- 53:08What a guy. Yeah. Just saying. What a guy. How many beavers did you catch?
- 53:13Three total out of there.
- 53:15Yeah, it looks like they were getting kicked out of the, out of the den,
- 53:19down there, and they were just coming up looking for somewhere to stay and catch
- 53:23them coming in and doing that.
- 53:24The one, I don't want to take a picture of because I thought,
- 53:26or send a picture of it on Facebook because I think Pete and Mike came after me.
- 53:31I ain't kidding. I think I've caught muskrats bigger than that big river.
- 53:33It was like this freaking big. Oh, my God.
- 53:38It's probably the one that was eating all the bark off all the trees.
- 53:41Probably was. I looked at the trap. I'm like, what is that?
- 53:45I was like, is that a rat? Like a mustache?
- 53:50And so then I walked up to it and pulled her trap out. I was like, oh, my God.
- 53:55This thing was born three days ago. It's a little baby peeper.
- 53:58It was tender, though. So my goodness. Love eating beaver.
- 54:04Do you guys feel like there's anything else we need to touch on?
- 54:09No, I don't think so. I mean, it's kind of wild, you know, to look back at our
- 54:13rest of this day and kind of what happened to those guys and RIP, right?
- 54:16Hopefully we never end up in that kind of situation.
- 54:21But I feel like it's a good story for a lot of people to hear or learn about
- 54:24just because, I mean, realistically, this could happen at any given point in
- 54:30time during hunting season on any day you're out there.
- 54:33You know, so it's, you know, people always say about the risk we,
- 54:37like, people take and the risk you take.
- 54:39I mean, nowadays the risk isn't near as much doing that stuff.
- 54:43Obviously, there's always a risk when you're going out in the wintertime on
- 54:46water, when it's freezing water.
- 54:49But, I mean, it's, there's always that risk of any day something like this happening
- 54:55and maybe you're just not prepared for it or you don't know,
- 54:59you're new to running a boat. I mean, I don't care what size boat you have.
- 55:04When you're running water like that and weather like that, you have to know
- 55:09what you're doing because you can sink any boat. Yeah. Yep.
- 55:15Yeah, I mean, that's what you're doing. If you're wanting to get a boat,
- 55:18get out and do it during the summertime, at least during summer,
- 55:21and preferably not on high wind days. You used to run on the damn thing.
- 55:25Or go out on the high wind days in summer so you learn how to run in the high wind. Yeah.
- 55:30At least if you sink it. You can swim back. All right.
- 55:34Wear your life jacket, of course. That's no fun, though.
- 55:38No fun. Do anything when it's warm out. Just fucking take a cold shower, take a cold swim.
- 55:43I feel like it's a little bit safer slash smarter.
- 55:48I could be wrong. Safety's for the birds. Oh my gosh.
- 55:53Well, I mean, if anybody that's listening to this podcast has any thing that
- 55:57they think we missed or things that we should touch on while we're on this topic
- 56:00here, now's the time to come.
- 56:02August remembers our missed this day. Let us know what it was like.
- 56:06He's probably not even the last fan. He's He's going to claim he's busy.
- 56:09Yeah, he's been claiming he's super busy lately, but we all know it's bullshit. I'm depressed.
- 56:14Bill's not here, or Bill's not commenting. That's wild. That is wild.
- 56:19One thing before we do get closed out here, I wanted to say,
- 56:24coming into the summer months here, me and Cade work jobs where our hours vary a lot,
- 56:30so we might be having to switch the live stream times back to 8 p.m.,
- 56:35and there could be weeks where we don't live stream and we just get together
- 56:39and record a podcast when we can because there could be weeks in the summertime here,
- 56:44where we skip a couple weeks, which there will be some weeks we take off going
- 56:48through the summer just to go do our own thing and take breaks.
- 56:52I mean, when it's not hunting season, we don't need to do this every week,
- 56:57but it's fun to get on here and chat with everybody.
- 57:01So we could be moving to 8 p.m. live stream times. We're going to see kind of
- 57:04how it all plays out here as we get more into the busy time of year for all of us with working.
- 57:11But yeah, no, that is definitely something that could happen.
- 57:13And there could be weeks where, well, there will be weeks.
- 57:15We don't podcast or stream in general throughout the summer.
- 57:21Yeah. Zach works nine to five, so he could do it every Monday at the same time.
- 57:26So if you guys do want us to podcast the same time, just start just shooting
- 57:29us messages. Just say, no, we want a Zach Neuendorf podcast Monday when you guys can't be on.
- 57:37Do it. I will. I'll sit there. I don't care. He could bring his beavers and hang out with you guys.
- 57:46We do a live on how to skin and stuff a beaver.
- 57:51We're eating purposes. That still doesn't say that, doesn't it?
- 58:00Oh, man. No, I think we touched on quite a bit on this Mr. Stay Blizzard deal.
- 58:05So, definitely wild time.
- 58:08Definitely crazy that this happened. And it's a very unfortunate event.
- 58:12Probably, like I said in the beginning, I think it's one of the most tragic
- 58:15days in waterfowling history to date just because of the amount of casualties and people that were,
- 58:23didn't just die, but suffered out there because of the lack of forecasting capabilities they had. Yeah.
- 58:31Yeah, a lot of young hunters. I mean, a lot of old ones too, I'm sure.
- 58:34I'm sure it was definitely a mix but it's just crazy to hear about that and
- 58:40it's crazy to imagine something like that is even possible to happen,
- 58:44with how we've came up and what we've seen I mean we've always had the TV with
- 58:52news that isn't super reliable but it's reliable enough not to miss a complete
- 58:56shitstorm blizzard like that right,
- 59:02but I think I think that about wraps it up for this week Don't it boys?
- 59:06I think so I think so Wish me and little Pookie Love Try to wrap a turkey tag
- 59:12around one form This weekend You guys are going this weekend?
- 59:17I think that's planned, pending weather He'll cancel on you,
- 59:21don't worry You're not going to go, make your own plans.
- 59:25That final's killing by myself. Little loser. That wraps it up for this episode
- 59:30of the Duckbells podcast.
- 59:32We appreciate you guys tuning in and listening. As always, please like and subscribe
