- 1:20Speaker 1: they know their stuff. So come give us a join.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark in Facebook groups. We are talking falling
- 1:27Speaker 1: for Vermont today, so let's start with a synopsis. A
- 1:30Speaker 1: best-selling author who got amnesia as a result of a
- 1:34Speaker 1: car accident finds refuge with a local doctor of an
- 1:39Speaker 1: idyllic small town in Vermont. Yes. David Winning directed Falling
- 1:43Speaker 1: for Vermont. He currently has 82 directing credits, and his
- 1:45Speaker 1: resume is a long list of Hallmark fan favorites, including
- 1:48Speaker 1: Field Day, The Nine Kittens of Christmas, and The 27-Hour Day.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Field Day just rolled right into this when I was
- 1:55Speaker 1: watching a Hallmark Plus. Oh, did it? It sure did,
- 1:57Speaker 1: and I just kept on watching. Aw. I like that movie.
- 2:01Speaker 1: The writing team of this movie included Jay Baxter and
- 2:04Speaker 1: Sean Zakin, who wrote the teleplay. The story itself came
- 2:07Speaker 1: from Jay, Sean, and Michael G. Larkin all working together.
- 2:11Speaker 1: This was the only Hallmark movie from Jay Baxter and
- 2:15Speaker 1: Sean Zakin. Michael G. Larkin has a total of six
- 2:18Speaker 1: writing credits, including last year's Tis the Season to be Irish.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Julie Gonzalo plays Angela slash Elizabeth. She has 51 acting
- 2:26Speaker 1: credits and was last seen in this year's My Argentine Heart.
- 2:29Speaker 1: For another fall-themed option with Julie, check out Three Bed,
- 2:31Speaker 1: Two Bath, One Ghost. While I was writing that, I
- 2:33Speaker 1: was like, not technically fall, but I think Halloween spooky
- 2:38Speaker 1: counts as fall. Don't you think so? Yeah. That's a
- 2:41Speaker 1: good movie, too. Benjamin Ayers plays Jeff. He has 106
- 2:47Speaker 1: acting credits and three upcoming Hallmark projects, a Christmas Angel match,
- 2:51Speaker 1: which is newly retitled, and two more true justice mystery movies.
- 2:57Speaker 1: That's his movie with Megan Ori? Yes. Exciting. Peter Benson
- 3:02Speaker 1: plays Brad. Along with acting, he's also directing two upcoming
- 3:05Speaker 1: holiday movies, This Countdown to Christmas, Christmas Babies, and A
- 3:08Speaker 1: Royal Montana Christmas. Booked and busy, Mr. Benson. Barbara Kottmeyer
- 3:14Speaker 1: plays Angela's sister and assistant Cynthia with 32 acting credits.
- 3:19Speaker 1: This was her most recent Hallmark project. Lauren McNamara plays
- 3:22Speaker 1: Jeff's daughter Emily. It has been about five years since
- 3:25Speaker 1: her last acting project, but Lauren did go on to
- 3:27Speaker 1: appear in A Wedding of Dreams, Welcome to Christmas, and
- 3:30Speaker 1: Hearts of Winter since this movie. Christian Michael Cooper plays
- 3:34Speaker 1: Jeff's son, Alex. His 22 acting projects include 53 episodes
- 3:38Speaker 1: of When Calls the Heart, where he plays the role
- 3:40Speaker 1: of Timmy Lawson. Falling for Vermont originally aired on September 23rd, 2017.
- 3:45Speaker 1: This movie was filmed in and around Agassiz and Langley,
- 3:49Speaker 1: British Columbia, Canada. We are going to take a quick break,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and we're going to be right back with our first impressions. Hey, Wendy,
- 4:04Speaker 1: what was your first impression of Falling for Vermont? Falling
- 4:07Speaker 1: for Vermont? More like Falling for Jeff. Oops. I have
- 4:11Speaker 1: a lot of thoughts about it. Uh-oh. My first impression is, damn,
- 4:15Speaker 1: that's a lot of redheads in one place. I don't
- 4:17Speaker 1: think I noticed. No, why would you? It's a lot
- 4:20Speaker 1: of redheads at that book convention. Must have been a
- 4:24Speaker 1: family who brought their background actors. Unless it was intentional.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I don't know. Interesting. All right. Let's talk about what
- 4:31Speaker 1: we liked. Well, I like Julie and Ben together. Oh,
- 4:36Speaker 1: so do I. I thought they had great falling for
- 4:40Speaker 1: you first date chemistry energy when they're walking together arm
- 4:44Speaker 1: in arm at the fall festival. I was like, I
- 4:46Speaker 1: can feel those first date butterflies. I agree. I did
- 4:53Speaker 1: love their chemistry. Yeah. They clicked for me. The hesitation
- 5:03Speaker 1: in my voice is because I was going to say,
- 5:05Speaker 1: sometimes Hallmark gives us these pairs that don't really click.
- 5:10Speaker 1: These clicked. They clicked. You know, last week. They had
- 5:13Speaker 1: that zing. They have that zing. Last week I talked about,
- 5:18Speaker 1: what was it called? Catch of the Day. No, no, no.
- 5:21Speaker 1: The fall movie. Harvest Moon. So many people like it.
- 5:26Speaker 1: And I didn't love like those two. Jesse Schramm. I
- 5:32Speaker 1: love Jesse. I hated this pairing. I don't want to
- 5:37Speaker 1: talk about it. Don't send me your emails. But Ben
- 5:40Speaker 1: and Julie, brava. Brava. Hey, let's talk conflict in this movie.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I really appreciate it. It was not contrived. We had
- 5:49Speaker 1: all the information up front. We know the conflict. She
- 5:51Speaker 1: doesn't know who she is. She's going to figure it out.
- 5:54Speaker 1: There's no silly misunderstanding. There's no running off. We know
- 6:00Speaker 1: that eventually she's going to figure out who she is
- 6:03Speaker 1: and there's going to be some friction there. Yeah. Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I really liked the amnesia storyline. Yeah. And I think
- 6:11Speaker 1: sometimes we get these amnesia storylines and someone knows more
- 6:15Speaker 1: than someone else or they're faked. Yeah. I don't know
- 6:19Speaker 1: if that's something that I've read in a book. It
- 6:21Speaker 1: just felt like we were all on the same page here.
- 6:23Speaker 1: We're all working towards the same thing. I have a
- 6:26Speaker 1: lot of thoughts about the amnesia storyline, but I actually
- 6:29Speaker 1: mostly really worked for me. Yeah, I thought it gave
- 6:32Speaker 1: the movie a little bit of mystery where it's obviously
- 6:36Speaker 1: not a mystery at all. But we have Angela Elizabeth
- 6:40Speaker 1: trying to figure out who she is. Dr. Jeff doesn't
- 6:45Speaker 1: seem like that concerned. Yeah. I don't feel like. No,
- 6:49Speaker 1: he moves her on in, gives her money. He's got
- 6:52Speaker 1: her taking care of his kids. My husband was like,
- 6:54Speaker 1: why are you letting this stranger spend all day with
- 6:56Speaker 1: your children? There is a stranger element that is like,
- 7:00Speaker 1: don't you pause for a second and be like, I
- 7:03Speaker 1: have no idea who this person is. Yes. She shows
- 7:07Speaker 1: up walking down the street. I love that scene though,
- 7:09Speaker 1: when she's like walking away, like from this like crash.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And she's like, the sheriff's like, Where are you going? Like,
- 7:16Speaker 1: she's like, I love that. I thought it was really good. Yeah.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I thought it was really good. Hey, I'd like a
- 7:21Speaker 1: fall fest in my town, please. However, we have one
- 7:26Speaker 1: and it falls real flat when it's in an elementary
- 7:28Speaker 1: school parking lot and not surrounded by fall foliage. Don't worry.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I'm going to talk about the fall foliage, but not
- 7:35Speaker 1: surrounded by the potential of fall foliage. Yeah. When it's
- 7:38Speaker 1: like on the blacktop. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The other day
- 7:41Speaker 1: I was, my daughter and I were in an adjacent
- 7:44Speaker 1: city to ours and they have this beautiful lake and
- 7:46Speaker 1: we were like walking around it, you know, just from exercise.
- 7:48Speaker 1: And they had this sign about this like fall festival.
- 7:51Speaker 1: And I was like, stop, I have to come. And
- 7:53Speaker 1: then I was like, oh, I bet it's real crowded though. Yes.
- 7:56Speaker 1: That's why I don't want to go. Yes. My husband
- 8:00Speaker 1: said the same thing. He's like, see, don't you want
- 8:01Speaker 1: to go there? I'm like, we have one in the neighborhood.
- 8:03Speaker 1: He's like, what, with 400,000 people? No, thank you. Yeah.
- 8:06Speaker 1: It's just because we don't live in a small town
- 8:08Speaker 1: with 200 people. Right. Yeah, I know. So Do they
- 8:13Speaker 1: need a bigger location for these festivals in our towns
- 8:19Speaker 1: or do they need more of them? Look, they do
- 8:23Speaker 1: one in a very big location near here. It's just
- 8:25Speaker 1: too many people. There's too many people live where we live. Yeah.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Even when you try and recreate that small town feel,
- 8:30Speaker 1: we don't live in a small town. And I think
- 8:35Speaker 1: this will go too far off the rails, but I
- 8:37Speaker 1: do think we have eliminated a lot of the fun-free
- 8:42Speaker 1: ways we used to exist. Like everything to do costs
- 8:45Speaker 1: money now. And so I think when you have an
- 8:49Speaker 1: event like that, people swarm. Yeah. Because everyone's just looking
- 8:53Speaker 1: for something to do. Yeah. Maybe you need to take
- 8:56Speaker 1: it like... Urban sprawl thoughts with Megan and Wendy. Not you,
- 9:00Speaker 1: but maybe it needs to be like a neighborhood thing. Yeah,
- 9:05Speaker 1: we have one in our neighborhood too. Yeah. It falls flat.
- 9:08Speaker 1: It's an Orange County suburban neighborhood. We don't have the vibes.
- 9:12Speaker 1: And it's 90 degrees. Exactly. Okay. One thing I really
- 9:16Speaker 1: liked was this cute fashion try-on scene in the thrift store.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Really loved it. She's so freaking cute, and I just
- 9:25Speaker 1: love that she put on all these outfits, like, trying
- 9:28Speaker 1: to figure out, like, what feels like her. Uh-huh. And
- 9:32Speaker 1: they're all... They're not, like, over the top, but, like,
- 9:34Speaker 1: at some point, like, she's got these huge stilettos on.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I was like, who's picking? Who's choosing that? Like, that's
- 9:40Speaker 1: what you think that you might wear? Maybe she thinks
- 9:41Speaker 1: she's a badass businesswoman in her other life. Maybe. And then, like,
- 9:45Speaker 1: she comes out in a very, like, suburban mom outfit.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Something I would have worn eight years ago. In 2017. Yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 1: a little ankle boot and a skinny jean. And a
- 9:56Speaker 1: long cardigan. A printed blouse. I had a closet full
- 9:59Speaker 1: of those. 100%. Me too. With a open cardigan. Yeah.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I mean, did you hear the green jackets coming back too? Oh,
- 10:09Speaker 1: I still have mine. I don't have mine anymore, but
- 10:12Speaker 1: I was like, hell yeah, that was a look I
- 10:14Speaker 1: really liked. I still own mine. I never stopped wearing it. Sorry.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I feel like it's a classic. You mean like the
- 10:21Speaker 1: cargo green camp jacket? Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it was
- 10:27Speaker 1: in this cute fashion try on scene that I really
- 10:29Speaker 1: liked on her last outfit when she comes out. She's like,
- 10:31Speaker 1: I think this is it. And she's so happy. But
- 10:33Speaker 1: the way that... Ben slash Jeff looks at her. It's
- 10:38Speaker 1: like he finally sees her. Yeah. Even though she's in
- 10:41Speaker 1: like a total nothing of an outfit, right? There's nothing
- 10:44Speaker 1: spectacular about it. But he looks like she's just stepped
- 10:47Speaker 1: out in her LBD. Right. Exactly. Do you think in
- 10:51Speaker 1: his mind he's like, there's my mother replacement. There she is.
- 10:56Speaker 1: This is the mother for my dead children's mom. What
- 11:02Speaker 1: happened to his wife? I don't remember. She died. Yeah,
- 11:06Speaker 1: that's what I thought. She died. Anyway. Anyway, speaking of
- 11:11Speaker 1: the kids, I did really like her relationship with his daughter.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I thought it was very sweet how they had this
- 11:20Speaker 1: growing bond over like developing like this story and it
- 11:25Speaker 1: was cute. Like it really led into like, oh, this
- 11:29Speaker 1: is who Angela is, right? Like that part of her
- 11:33Speaker 1: wasn't lost even though she didn't remember it. I like that.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I'm like, I thought it was like a sweet little
- 11:41Speaker 1: extra layer. I mean, the son doesn't get a lot
- 11:43Speaker 1: of like, no, but it's this mother daughter. This is
- 11:46Speaker 1: real sweet. Let's talk wishes. Okay. You know, every time
- 11:50Speaker 1: Peter Benson comes on screen, I'm like, Peter Benson can't,
- 11:52Speaker 1: it's like a tick. I can't, I can't stop myself.
- 11:55Speaker 1: And I am always thrilled to see Peter Benson on screen,
- 11:57Speaker 1: but damn, that guy could not have cared less about
- 11:59Speaker 1: his girlfriend. Okay. So this is one of my biggest wishes.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I can't, Freaking hate that Brad, Peter Benson, and the sister,
- 12:10Speaker 1: they're just like part of this machine to make Angela
- 12:13Speaker 1: this like superstar. She is telling you, I don't want
- 12:18Speaker 1: to do this. I want to, and I'm not dismissing,
- 12:22Speaker 1: I just want to be a writer. Like she just
- 12:24Speaker 1: wants to write books. She doesn't want to do the
- 12:27Speaker 1: whole thing. Listen to her. And instead, when she runs
- 12:31Speaker 1: away and steals your car, which should be like the
- 12:34Speaker 1: ultimate moment where we go, oh, obviously she's not okay
- 12:38Speaker 1: with this. She's crashing out. They just keep the machine
- 12:41Speaker 1: churning behind the scenes instead of making almost no effort
- 12:44Speaker 1: to go look for her. And even when the sister
- 12:46Speaker 1: finally hits a wall and is like, maybe we should
- 12:49Speaker 1: do something about this. Brad's like, nah, nah, give her
- 12:52Speaker 1: a few more days. I feel 0% bad for him
- 12:56Speaker 1: that she moved on. They did not have a relationship.
- 12:58Speaker 1: He was a business partner. I hear you say that. And?
- 13:02Speaker 1: I counter with. Let's hear it. I don't counter with.
- 13:06Speaker 1: My concern is, here comes this woman, full amnesia. She
- 13:11Speaker 1: falls for Dr. Jeff. She doesn't pause for one second
- 13:16Speaker 1: and go, I wonder if I come from a life
- 13:19Speaker 1: where I'm married or I have children. Maybe I should
- 13:23Speaker 1: not move forward with these things. feelings I'm having for
- 13:26Speaker 1: some random stranger I just met because who knows what
- 13:29Speaker 1: my other life looks like. I totally agree with you.
- 13:32Speaker 1: When they almost kiss, they don't kiss in that moment, right?
- 13:34Speaker 1: But they almost kiss and they stop. I was like,
- 13:36Speaker 1: wait a minute. Exactly. Do not get into a relationship
- 13:41Speaker 1: while you don't have any idea who you are. I
- 13:43Speaker 1: fully agree with you. It's not like, I know she
- 13:45Speaker 1: just bumped her head, but it's not like she doesn't
- 13:47Speaker 1: have any common sense here to be like, wait, before
- 13:51Speaker 1: I Jump into something. Yeah. I have no idea who
- 13:54Speaker 1: I am or what is waiting for me. Yeah. I
- 13:57Speaker 1: just feel like I don't like that. You know, here
- 14:02Speaker 1: was my thought. She's in the hospital or the doctor's
- 14:05Speaker 1: office after they found her on the side of the road.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I was thinking, what are they going to do with her?
- 14:09Speaker 1: She doesn't have a wallet. She doesn't have a phone.
- 14:11Speaker 1: She doesn't know who she is. Obviously, it's a Hallmark movie,
- 14:13Speaker 1: so this guy's got a back house miraculously, and she's
- 14:16Speaker 1: going to go stay there. This is like Never Kiss
- 14:18Speaker 1: a Man in a Christmas Sweater. Ash Williams moves the
- 14:20Speaker 1: guy into her back house because she hits him with
- 14:22Speaker 1: a Christmas tree. How do you remember those details of
- 14:24Speaker 1: a movie we did not enjoy? I don't know. I
- 14:27Speaker 1: think I may have seen it recently or that part
- 14:28Speaker 1: of it. But the whole thing is like she's trying
- 14:31Speaker 1: to make it up to him, so she moves him
- 14:33Speaker 1: into her back house. But I'm thinking, what would happen?
- 14:37Speaker 1: You have no identifying, nothing to identify you, not a
- 14:40Speaker 1: dollar to your name. What would happen to you? What
- 14:43Speaker 1: would they do to you? Who's they? You're in the
- 14:46Speaker 1: hospital and they say, you've got amnesia. We don't know.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Do they keep you in the hospital? I think they
- 14:50Speaker 1: just keep you there, don't they? I don't know. I
- 14:52Speaker 1: really was starting to wonder what would happen. I have
- 14:55Speaker 1: no idea. She would just be this Jane Doe. It
- 14:58Speaker 1: would be all over the news, would it not? Perhaps.
- 15:01Speaker 1: This woman came out of the woods after an accident
- 15:04Speaker 1: and has no ID, does not know who she is. Like,
- 15:06Speaker 1: help us identify her. I think it would be news.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I was very worried about that. Yeah. I have so
- 15:12Speaker 1: many questions for Did You See That? Okay. How long
- 15:16Speaker 1: was she unconscious in her car before she started walking
- 15:18Speaker 1: on the road in broad daylight? She crashes in the
- 15:20Speaker 1: middle of the night. She's unconscious for hours and then
- 15:23Speaker 1: just stumbles out in the mid-morning. She's bleeding out from
- 15:28Speaker 1: her head. Another time inconsistency. When she gets to Jeff's house,
- 15:32Speaker 1: the first day when she's found, he's like, we're going
- 15:34Speaker 1: to have dinner or if you want to go to bed,
- 15:36Speaker 1: you can go to bed. And she like yawns and
- 15:37Speaker 1: so she goes to bed. It is still light outside.
- 15:40Speaker 1: It is fall in Vermont when the sun sets very early.
- 15:42Speaker 1: It's no later than 4 p.m. in that house. And
- 15:45Speaker 1: she goes to bed. And the next morning she's like,
- 15:47Speaker 1: I got a whole 10 hours of sleep. I was like, girlfriend,
- 15:49Speaker 1: you must have gotten like 17 hours of sleep based
- 15:51Speaker 1: on that timeline. Let's talk about the leaves. I mean,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I think I saw a digital leaf fall behind. Right? Right.
- 16:03Speaker 1: The leaf miming Wendy just did was really A +.
- 16:06Speaker 1: You know, it's so bad because they plant these like
- 16:09Speaker 1: singular bunches of leaves that might just be seen like
- 16:13Speaker 1: over the person's head. But when they pan back, you
- 16:15Speaker 1: see it's this enormous field of evergreens with just this
- 16:19Speaker 1: like poof of like orange leaves. It's like they walked
- 16:22Speaker 1: into the freaking Hobby Lobby or Michael's and just was like,
- 16:26Speaker 1: get that tree and we're going to use it in
- 16:28Speaker 1: all these spots. There you go. Put the tree over there.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Oh my God, it's so terrible. Get our singular bunch
- 16:34Speaker 1: of orange leaves. It's real bad. This place is beautiful,
- 16:37Speaker 1: I would imagine, in the fall. It is quite nice,
- 16:40Speaker 1: but it was not fall. But can I stop you though?
- 16:45Speaker 1: I don't feel like I've ever seen, I've seen digital snow,
- 16:48Speaker 1: but I don't know if I've ever seen a digital leaf.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I don't know either. It was for real. I was like,
- 16:54Speaker 1: somebody in editing was like really proud of that. And
- 16:58Speaker 1: I was like, oh my goodness. Just don't. Just don't.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Just don't. It better left alone. Yes. Go ahead. What else?
- 17:08Speaker 1: The little boy's pumpkin was such a fake pumpkin. Like
- 17:10Speaker 1: the top wasn't even cut off. It was like a
- 17:13Speaker 1: plastic pumpkin that you buy at the craft store that
- 17:16Speaker 1: you stick a tea light in. Probably had one built in.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I was like, come on. Yeah. There were a lot
- 17:21Speaker 1: of like porch shots that had just like lots of
- 17:26Speaker 1: fake pumpkins on it. Like you can't, I mean, I
- 17:31Speaker 1: don't know what time of year. Summer. This is summer.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Pumpkins don't exist in summertime? No. I'm sure they do. No. Yeah.
- 17:39Speaker 1: They grow up until the fall season. Is it a
- 17:42Speaker 1: vegetable or it's a fruit? It's a fruit, right? It
- 17:44Speaker 1: has a seed. They grow up until the fall season,
- 17:46Speaker 1: then they cut them and deliver them. I don't think
