- 0:01Hey. Everybody, welcome to the good
- 0:03Morning from the Chicken Coop podcast.
- 0:05My name is Kim Johnson and I am a mastermindset coach, creative
- 0:08strategist and also. Happened.
- 0:10To be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here. Every day to record a podcast
- 0:15to. Teach distinctions,
- 0:17possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring some
- 0:20joy. Into the.
- 0:21World. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. You are actually doing chores
- 0:31with me right now as we get ready to get the chickens out.
- 0:35And it's a little rainy, very foggy, kind of like a Sunday
- 0:39morning. And I thought I would take you
- 0:42on my chores because I look at this and I think my chores are a
- 0:46time to be grateful and be happy so that I can stay in a good
- 0:51headspace about them. Meaning sometimes the word
- 0:54chores when you're a kid, the word chores is like, I have to
- 0:57get my chores done. I hate it, I don't like it.
- 1:00And boy do I remember that I had chores that my mother gave me
- 1:04that were part of what she wanted as hobbies and then she
- 1:07gave me chores on them. And I didn't like that at all.
- 1:09I felt like that was a RIP off because if it was her hobby, I
- 1:13didn't mind helping, but I didn't want to do it if it was
- 1:15her hobby. So I've always been very careful
- 1:18to not repeat that, but I've always given my kids chores and
- 1:22things to do because it makes you more of a responsible person
- 1:27to have them. And one of the things that I
- 1:30think is incredibly important to recognize in this process is
- 1:34that the what you think about the chores is going to dictate
- 1:38so much for you. It's going to make things so it
- 1:43takes a different direction, no matter what you think about it.
- 1:45So let me give you an example. If you hate, absolutely hate
- 1:49making your bed, then that chore is going to be daunting.
- 1:53But if you make your bed with the intention of knowing that
- 1:57tonight, no matter what this day is like, you're going to come
- 2:00back to it and it's going to be cozy and clean and organized.
- 2:03And no matter how unorganized the world was today, your bed is
- 2:08going to be organized and waiting for you.
- 2:11That's my personal belief around it.
- 2:13So, you know, you heard the military people talk about it
- 2:17and when they, I can't remember who it was who did that speech,
- 2:19but he talked about how making your bed is the first win of the
- 2:22day. And I totally believe that.
- 2:25But for me, it's more about certainty of knowing.
- 2:28No matter how chaotic my day is, I come back and the bed is made.
- 2:32So the bed is already made. I'm out here doing chicken
- 2:35chores, getting ready for their, you know, to open the gates for
- 2:38them and give them their well, they already have food out there
- 2:41all the time, but breakfast in the sense of they get some
- 2:44scratch. And this morning they're having
- 2:47some rice with shredded zucchini and some other vegetables that
- 2:51were left over in the refrigerator because it's
- 2:53Sunday. So I'm cleaning out the
- 2:55refrigerator and they get a bunch of leftovers, which they
- 2:58happen to love. But that chore takes time.
- 3:02All of these chores take time. And when you stack them up and
- 3:05you say it's more time, it's more time, it's more time.
- 3:08Yes, it is. But it's an opportunity to stop
- 3:11and pause and really be mindful and say I'm doing this with
- 3:15love. I'm doing this to care for them.
- 3:16I enjoy caring for them. I enjoy making their life great
- 3:20because caring for something else makes me happy.
- 3:23Now, that's my personal rule. I love caring for things,
- 3:26plants, animals, particularly my kids.
- 3:29I just love doing that. It makes me feel good.
- 3:33So make no doubt about it, I'm not doing it because I'm out.
- 3:36You know, I have this altruistic attitude.
- 3:38I'm doing it because it really makes me feel good to be able to
- 3:42care for things and watch them grow and bloom.
- 3:46It's just my hardwiring. But I utilize that heavily to
- 3:50help me find gratitude all the time and to stand in here and
- 3:55say, OK, while I'm doing my chores, I'm going to shoot my
- 3:58podcast. I'm going to have something done
- 4:01by the end of the time I finish my chores.
- 4:04And then everything is going to line up and I'm in this great
- 4:07headspace starting the day off. And I do this as a ritual every
- 4:12day. So to me, the word chores is an
- 4:15option, but I really think of the chores now more as rituals
- 4:20and I really think of them as the way I set myself up now.
- 4:25Full disclosure, I didn't sleep well last night.
- 4:27I have no idea why I just didn't sleep well last night.
- 4:31I kept tossing and turning. My brain was on fire.
- 4:33I kept hearing a, a song in my head and I was like, oh, I and I
- 4:38meditated, shut it off, got it under control and then it would
- 4:41bounce right back up. So I had to really focus on when
- 4:46I got up. I feel outstanding, I feel
- 4:50great, and I got into my rituals and boom, I felt great even
- 4:55though I had very little sleep. So you can manipulate these
- 4:59things in your head. When you stop and you try, you
- 5:01are in complete control. My friends of your interior
- 5:04world. You get to decide.
- 5:06Now, will I probably be tired physically later?
- 5:09Sure, probably, and that's OK. I don't care.
- 5:12I'm not going to allow it to ruin my day and I'm going to
- 5:14enjoy my rituals, my chores, and I'm going to use them to help me
- 5:18utilize and diminish the chaos when it comes in.
- 5:22So I hope this is helpful and I will see you guys tomorrow and I
- 5:27will definitely be have having slept better.
- 5:30So have a great day and I will see you then.
- 5:32Bye.
