- 0:01Hey, everybody. Welcome back to the Elon Musk
- 0:04Podcast. This is a show where we discuss
- 0:07the critical crossroads that shape SpaceX, Tesla X, The
- 0:11Boring Company and Neuralink. I'm your host, Will Walden.
- 0:15Tesla has seen its stock performance take a significant
- 0:19turn as investor sentiment improves.
- 0:22Now, it's attracting renewed attention, particularly with the
- 0:25highly anticipated robo taxi set to make its debut now.
- 0:31On Friday, Tesla shares concluded their highest winning
- 0:34streak since June 13th, 2023. That's the longest as well.
- 0:38And the stock closed at $251.52 per share again.
- 0:43That eradicated an 11% annual deficit, marking a 1.2% increase
- 0:49for the year. Now, throughout the month, Tesla
- 0:51stock surged by 27%, significantly outpacing the S&P
- 0:56500's modest 2% rise. Tesla reported second quarter
- 1:00deliveries of 443,956 vehicles, surpassing expectations, and
- 1:06this figure included 422,405 deliveries of the Model 3 and
- 1:11Model Y, with the remaining 21,551 comprising other electric
- 1:16vehicle models. And despite a 4% year over year
- 1:19decline, the performance was seen as a positive indicator for
- 1:23the company's future. Now, analyst Dan Ives from
- 1:26Wedbush Securities is optimistic about Tesla's future, said that
- 1:31it's stabilizing demand for electric vehicles globally, and
- 1:34he highlighted that the company's forthcoming Robo Taxi
- 1:37day on August 8th will be a critical event.
- 1:40It's coming up soon, everybody. So be careful.
- 1:43Of all the imitators out there with robo taxis, Tesla's going
- 1:46to be the one now, potentially this will pave the way for full
- 1:50self driving technology and an autonomous future, something
- 1:54that Elon Musk has been promising every year for about 5
- 1:59or six years. Full driving next year.
- 2:02Full driving next year. Well, hopefully this will be the
- 2:05year on August 8th that we're going to be really close to
- 2:09that. They need to have full self
- 2:10driving if they want these robo taxis to actually work.
- 2:13Now, Ivy maintains an outperform rating at Tesla with a price
- 2:16target of $300.00 and a bullish scenario with a potential rise
- 2:20to 400. And of the 50 analysts covering
- 2:23Tesla, 22 recommend buying the stock, 18 advice holding, and 10
- 2:28suggest selling, according to data from Thompson One.
- 2:32This consensus reflects the varied perspectives on Tesla's
- 2:35market position and future prospects.
- 2:37Now remember, all of this is not advice.
- 2:41What I'm saying right now, this is not advice.
- 2:43Just want you to know that these are just the numbers and I want
- 2:45you to run your own and do your own math.
- 2:48And Elon Musk amplified interest by retweeting a video show Kiki
- 2:52seeing a hands free Tesla ride from Golden Gate Park to Fort
- 2:55Point. Now that shows the company's
- 2:58advancements in autonomous driving tech.
- 3:00And it contributed to the stocks 2% rise on Friday, extending an
- 3:04impressive 37% Rayleigh over 8 sessions and a 43% gain over the
- 3:08past month. Now, beyond vehicle production
- 3:11and deliveries, Tesla's energy storage business is experiencing
- 3:15rapid growth. Adam Jonas of Morgan Stanley
- 3:18said that Tesla's recent performance, including better
- 3:21than expected second quarter deliveries and significant
- 3:24energy storage achievements, show that the company's
- 3:27diversifying. And another boost for Tesla came
- 3:30from China, where the provincial government included locally
- 3:34produced Tesla vehicles on its purchase list.
- 3:37Now, the development permits government workers to buy Tesla
- 3:41Model Y as a service vehicle, indicating strong institutional
- 3:45support for the brand in the region.
- 3:47And despite facing stiff competition for Chinese electric
- 3:50vehicle manufacturers and experiencing some demand
- 3:53fluctuations in the US, Tesla is making strategic moves to
- 3:56maintain its market position now.
- 3:58Earlier this year, the company reduced its global workforce by
- 4:01more than 10% and cut vehicle prices to stimulate sales.
- 4:07During Tesla's recent storage Excuse me shareholder meeting,
- 4:11Elon Musk acknowledged the ongoing challenges in the EV
- 4:14market. Noting the transitionary period
- 4:17affecting demand and sales right now.
- 4:20Barclays analyst Dan Levy remarked that while the second
- 4:24quarter results were positive, broader market conditions remain
- 4:27challenging. Levy has an equal weight ratio
- 4:30on Tesla with a price target of about $180.
- 4:33Now, Tesla's upcoming second quarter financial results
- 4:36scheduled for July 23rd are expected to draw significant
- 4:39attention. Stay tuned to this channel
- 4:42because we will bring you all of that now.
- 4:45Analysts are particularly focused on the company's
- 4:47automotive gross margins, given the extensive discounts and
- 4:50incentives offered over the past year to boost sales of its
- 4:53existing models. And in late 2023, Tesla showed
- 4:58off the cyber truck. This is the angular pickup we
- 5:01all know and love, and it quickly became the best selling
- 5:04fully electric truck in the US during the second quarter,
- 5:07according to social media reports.
- 5:09Now this achievement is a notable milestone as Tesla
- 5:12expands its product line up to vehicles such as trucks.
- 5:17Now Ford, who is a huge competitor to Tesla, reported
- 5:20sales of 7902 units of its fully electric F-150 Lightning in the
- 5:25second quarter, totaling 15,645 units for the first half of the
- 5:30year. Tesla's performance in the
- 5:32segment shows that it has a competitive edge in the electric
- 5:36pickup market. Now, we anticipate that Tesla's
- 5:40Robo Taxi day on August 8th will be a significant event for the
- 5:44company. We're predicting that although
- 5:47the robo taxi segment might not launch before 2027, it'll be an
- 5:51important business area for Tesla in the long term.
- 5:55A price target of 230 is a talked about number on Tesla,
- 6:01and that's a possibility that you might want to buy the stock
- 6:04now because if it goes up to 230, you're going to be cashing
- 6:08in if you have enough stock. But of course, this is not
- 6:13advice. This is just, you know, you do
- 6:15your own work here, you figure out your own finances and you do
- 6:19your own thing. And despite this recent rally
- 6:22that's going on, Tesla stock performance still kind of lags
- 6:25behind broader market indices. For the year, the NASDAQ gained
- 6:2822%. S&P 500 has risen 17% in 2024
- 6:33compared to Tesla's 1.2% increase.
- 6:37Now, it shows that there's challenges facing Tesla right
- 6:40now and they have to start matching the overall market
- 6:43growth. And recent polls indicate the
- 6:47Tesla's brand image is suffering due to Musk controversial
- 6:50actions in political statements. A New York Times survey
- 6:54highlighted the Musk's polarizing behavior is
- 6:56alienating some left-leaning consumers, which could impact
- 7:00Tesla's market position. Tesla has also faced delays in
- 7:04delivering full self driving capabilities, a goal that Musk
- 7:08announced way back in October of 2016.
- 7:11And pretty much every year since then, he said that it's going to
- 7:13be the next year. And despite claims that all
- 7:16Tesla vehicles produced at the time had the necessary hardware,
- 7:19Musk recently indicated that another hardware and sensor
- 7:22update is required to actually achieve full self driving.
