Alex McFarland, welcome to World View Matters.
• 1:15
  Good to see you brother.
• 1:16
Well, it's good to be back.
• 1:18
You were so gracious to have me back multiple times.
• 1:21
  Thank you.
• 1:22
Well, you read a lot of great books and tired to keep up with you.
• 1:25
But anyway, let's talk about a very important subject before we get into some of the other
• 1:30
  ones.
• 1:31
I want to talk about peanut butter.
• 1:32
I saw this, a link on your website.
• 1:34
I said, oh, my goodness, this is awesome.
• 1:37
McFarland Farms, organic peanut butter, tell us a little bit about that.
• 1:42
  Yeah.
• 1:43
Well, we were in the chicken business for 68 years.
• 1:47
We have had a farm for 88 years.
• 1:50
And my grandfather and my dad, we raised thousands of chickens.
• 1:54
And growing up as a kid in North Carolina, I just figured that I would run the chicken
• 2:00
  farm someday.
• 2:01
And when McDonald's first had the egg muffin, we had like 271 McDonald's that we delivered
• 2:08
  eggs to.
• 2:09
And anyway, I got to tell you how the Lord worked, though.
• 2:15
When I was in college at 21, I became a Christian.
• 2:19
And then about three years later, I really felt led to go into the ministry.
• 2:24
But I was really agonizing on how to tell my dad because I had a lot of responsibility
• 2:29
running trucks and even at 25 years old, I was overseeing a lot of employees and inventory.
• 2:37
But I really, really prayed about it.
• 2:38
And one morning, I loaded one of my trucks.
• 2:42
And my dad and I would meet for coffee at like seven in the morning.
• 2:46
And I said, look, I really need to talk to you.
• 2:48
And he said, I really need to talk to you.
• 2:51
And you know, my dad was a Christian, but he was a World War II that he was a pretty
• 2:56
  tough guy.
• 2:57
  And he wasn't a real touchy-feely guy.
• 2:59
But this is probably the closest moment we ever had.
• 3:03
And I said, Dad, listen, I'm going to go to seminary.
• 3:07
And I think God has called me to preach.
• 3:10
And he just looked at me and all of a sudden, he reached out and he put his hand on my
• 3:15
  head.
• 3:16
And he began to pray over me.
• 3:18
It was a very touching moment.
• 3:20
  Wow.
• 3:21
And he prayed a prayer, a blessing over my life.
• 3:24
And my dad looked at me and he said, son, I've been agonizing how to tell you this, but
• 3:29
  I've sold the egg business.
• 3:31
  And I was like, really?
• 3:33
  This is perfect.
• 3:35
  Wow.
• 3:36
  Praise God.
• 3:37
And he had some health issues.
• 3:39
And I had really wondered if I go to seminary, how's my dad going to run this business without
• 3:44
me really, because I knew he couldn't replace me for the amount of money that he paid
• 3:49
me, which was not a lot.
• 3:51
  But God worked it out.
• 3:54
And do you know what, David?
• 3:56
There just might be somebody watching this program.
• 3:59
And maybe they need a little general reminder that God has our plans worked out.
• 4:05
And we will commit our way to Christ.
• 4:08
He really will direct our life.
• 4:10
And brother, we still run the egg, we're not the egg farm, but the peanut butter company.
• 4:18
We have a natural food company and we make all natural peanut butter from just North Carolina
• 4:25
  peanuts.
• 4:27
And there's no chemicals, there's no pesticides.
• 4:31
  It's all natural.
• 4:32
And one day, I'm hoping, because see on the one and the website, if you Google Alex McFarlane
• 4:39
peanut butter or how's this for a good URL, me nuts for peanuts, the number four, me nuts
• 4:47
for peanuts, all of the profit, 100% of the profit of the peanut butter company goes
• 4:52
  into missions.
• 4:54
Not only our work, we support other missionaries to my my prayer, and we're not quite there yet.
• 5:02
But I've prayed that $1 million a year would go to world missions from out of this North
• 5:08
  Carolina peanut butter company.
• 5:10
So anyway, well, I'm going to go there because I love peanut butter.
• 5:14
I really, we got like five jars in the cabinet in the pantry right now, but I've got to
• 5:18
try this Alex and I'll write a review for you.
• 5:21
  I'm kidding.
• 5:22
  Oh, thanks.
• 5:23
  Thanks, man.
• 5:24
  No, but we'll try it.
• 5:25
And I'm sure some of our viewers will go with it to the website.
• 5:28
We can get the link at Alex McFarlane.com, but it's me nuts, the number four peanuts.com.
• 5:36
So we'll like get some some peanut butter moving off out of North Carolina there.
• 5:41
So Alex, you wrote a recent op-ed and I love the title.
• 5:45
You know, you've been talking about the biblical worldview like I have, but you've been writing
• 5:49
about out it for a lot longer.
• 5:51
The Barnard research and everything else, but it's called drain the swamp with a question
• 5:56
  mark.
• 5:58
Some churches need to drain the pulpit.
• 6:01
Now before I even knew that was, whoop, that was about Alex McFarlane.
• 6:04
  I just said kudos.
• 6:05
  I love the title.
• 6:06
  I'm in.
• 6:07
  You had me at hello.
• 6:09
  So drain the swamp.
• 6:10
People are talking about the swamp, but we're talking about the churches and the lack
• 6:15
of biblical worldview and the lack of sound doctrine and the whole council of God and
• 6:20
  teaching prophecy, apologetics.
• 6:22
We've got a very biblically illiterate, well, nation, but in the church show, go ahead
• 6:28
and wherever you want to start with this topic and I love again, some churches do need
• 6:33
  to drain the pulpit.
• 6:35
So what made you decide to tackle this one and put up that provocative headline?
• 6:39
  Well, you know, it's interesting.
• 6:43
My family for really 200 years had been a part of a traditional mainline denominational
• 6:50
church in North Carolina, and I didn't really hear the gospel at the church growing up
• 6:55
because it was a very liberal, theologically liberal church.
• 6:58
And then when I was in college through a Monday night Bible study for college kids, I really
• 7:04
heard about how I could have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
• 7:08
And I got into apologetics, you know, literally like, you know, 72 hours after accepting Christ,
• 7:15
I was reading books by Josh McDowell and Chuck Colson and the late Norm Geisler, Francis
• 7:21
Schaefer, reading the footnotes, I came across names like C.S. Lewis and John Gerstner
• 7:28
and G.K. Chesterton and E.J. Cornell and some of your viewers will know some of those
• 7:34
great names in apologetics, David Noble and the book Understanding the Times.
• 7:41
Now here's my point and I completely give God the glory, but I've pastored two churches
• 7:48
and I've literally spoken in 2000 churches throughout 50 states and five continents.
• 7:55
And here in America, David, our nation is struggling to a large degree because of the
• 8:03
  silence of 345,000 American pulpits.
• 8:08
I mean, you think about this.
• 8:10
Two weeks ago, I was with George Barna, highly respected trend watcher, researcher,
• 8:16
statistician, sociologist, Barna was saying to me, every week like 500,000 pastors speak
• 8:27
into the lives of 100 million adults, 100 million adults that probably have a born-again
• 8:35
  relationship with Christ.
• 8:37
You put your faith in Jesus, your sins are forgiven, but we don't vote from a scriptural
• 8:44
  vantage point very often.
• 8:46
I mean, look, if you're a born-again believer, the Bible is our authority.
• 8:51
The Bible, God's complete word, God's holy word is our roadmap for life.
• 8:58
Now as a Christian, I should know where I stand on abortion, gay marriage, transgenderism,
• 9:07
the rule of law, morality, marriage, even things like education, government.
• 9:14
How would I know where to stand because the word of God speaks with clarity?
• 9:19
  Let me just say this.
• 9:20
I'll throw it back to you.
• 9:21
What about the nation of Israel speaking out from the pulpit with a clarion call against
• 9:28
anti-symmetism standing for the nation of Israel against Hamas and Hezbollah?
• 9:35
And I got to tell you, look, I love the church because I love the one who is the head of the
• 9:40
  church.
• 9:41
  Jesus.
• 9:42
  Thank you, Lord.
• 9:43
I have nearly contempt for many, many, many American pastors because they would not dare, the
• 9:53
majority of American senior pastors would not dare get in their pulpit and have the courage
• 10:00
to call sin, sin, to unequivocally not, well, on the one hand, this, not dialectic vagueness,
• 10:09
but with a clarion call, say, the word of God hath said.
• 10:15
And if we had to have million preachers that were actually preaching the whole council
• 10:21
of God every Sunday morning, and I know because I've pastored one church of 2,000 members,
• 10:27
I've pastored one small church of 200, but David, we have a pastor problem.
• 10:33
  Yes, we do.
• 10:35
And part of that problem, we don't have time to get into it, but the seminaries are part
• 10:38
of the problem, teaching church growth, and they've surrendered in errancy, but that's
• 10:44
for a whole other topic, but Alex, let's talk about pastors now.
• 10:47
When you mentioned Israel, we've had Olivier Melnick, we've had Jan Markelle, we've had
• 10:51
other leaders in the prophetic community and pro-Israel leaders and speakers.
• 10:57
And when I had them on, I get, I get emails from people saying the day after or the Sunday
• 11:05
after the Hamas attacks, last October 7, my pastor did not even mention Israel.
• 11:12
And it's a head scratcher at this point, but I think we're learning that if you, if
• 11:17
they're not teaching about prophecy and the whole council of God and the Old Testament
• 11:21
and how do we expect them to be biblical on Israel, right?
• 11:25
  Right.
• 11:26
Well, you know, they say it takes four years to go to seminary and tend to get over it.
• 11:31
  And that's sad, but true.
• 11:34
Yeah, and, you know, there's just so much woke revisionist, moderate to liberal to
• 11:44
  heretical theology out there.
• 11:47
And, you know, really, and I've, I've sat on ordination committees.
• 11:52
I've, you know, been involved in trying to mentor a lot of people.
• 11:57
And I've got, you know, two postgraduate degrees myself, but I can honestly say I knew what
• 12:07
I believed before going to graduate school because, you know, I became a Christian when I was
• 12:13
an English major at 21 years old and I had read my share of literature and language and the way
• 12:22
that we ought to handle the word of God and the way that it was handled up until, you know,
• 12:28
50 years ago, words mean things and the Bible is made of words.
• 12:33
And we look at what's called a historical, grammatical approach to hermeneutics.
• 12:38
  What is the historical context?
• 12:41
  What do the words say?
• 12:43
And what do these words mean in terms of my walk and witness for Christ?
• 12:49
And nowadays, I mean, we have so much, you know, really woke theology.
• 12:56
We've got, you know, Marxist theology.
• 12:59
We've got, you know, gender inclusive theology.
• 13:05
  It's, it's crazy.
• 13:06
The word of God says you must be born again.
• 13:10
The word of God says God made male and female.
• 13:14
The word of God says in Genesis 12, God will bless those who bless Israel,
• 13:20
curse those who curse Israel and, you know, just from a historical standpoint.
• 13:25
And look, I love all people and the gospel is for the human race.
• 13:30
Jew, Gentile, you know, oriental, accidental, western, eastern, Arabic, but here's the thing.
• 13:39
March 1470, I'm sorry, March of 70 AD was when Rome,
• 13:46
Blitzkrieg, Jerusalem, and the nation of Israel was scattered.
• 13:50
May 14, 1948, Israel was regathered.
• 13:54
But here's the thing, Muhammad was not even born until 571 AD.
• 13:59
  Islam started about 610 AD.
• 14:03
So for the Muslims and I've debated at universities and I've
• 14:08
dialoged on colon shows, look, by historical precedence and by divine right,
• 14:18
the land of Israel belongs to the Jewish people.
• 14:21
The Jews had been in Israel for three millennia before Muhammad was even born.
• 14:27
Yes. And so I've dialoged with just clueless liberal American clergy who say,
• 14:35
well, you know, what about the right of the Palestinians?
• 14:40
Well, there is no right of the Holy Land to Palestinians.
• 14:46
  It's the land of Israel.
• 14:47
Now, Donald Trump, you know, one of the most courageous men that has ever occupied the
• 14:55
Oval Office, it was a great gesture.
• 14:58
It was a promise that went back to Gerald Ford had never been fulfilled.
• 15:03
Trump put the American embassy in Jerusalem.
• 15:06
That's right. And guess what? World War Three didn't happen.
• 15:13
And so, you know, Biden has reinstituted a flow of money to Hezbollah and Hamas.
• 15:22
And I think we all know I just two weeks ago today, two weeks ago today, I heard
• 15:28
candidate Trump speak in Nashville and he was introduced by the former ambassador to Israel,
• 15:34
David Feldman. And David Feldman told the crowd of 3000 people, he said, look, we all know
• 15:41
if this man had been in the Oval Office, the Hamas attacks of October 7 would not have happened.
• 15:48
And he said, you know, in Jerusalem, they pray every day for Donald Trump, once again,
• 15:54
to occupy the Oval Office, interesting. Because I know I'm often a tangent, hang with me,
• 16:02
but look, the greatest favor any president could ever do the American people is to be a friend
• 16:08
to the nation of Israel. Biblically, yes. And there's too much biblical ignorance about that,
• 16:14
being an ally supporting Israel. We've got to take a very brief pause. We're going to talk about
• 16:17
some of these numbers in the survey that Arizona Christian University and Barna came out with,
• 16:23
when we come back with Alex McFarland on World View Matters.
• 16:44
Hey, if you're listening via audio podcast, help us out by leaving a five star review,
• 16:48
it helps the show rise in the rankings. And if you're interested in being a sponsor of World
• 16:53
View Matters, you can send us an email. Our producer will get back to you, go to worldviewmatters.tv
• 16:59
and send us an email. So Alex McFarland, I want to talk about that survey now in some of the numbers.
• 17:05
And there's, you know, so many surveys, so many numbers, Gallup, Pew, Barna does a great job
• 17:11
with the research. But in the church now, we're talking about Christians and of adult American
• 17:18
adults, born again Christians, only 13% of born again Christians hold a consistently biblical
• 17:27
world view. There are more numbers in this survey. Go wherever you want with this brother.
• 17:33
Well, yeah, I mean, we can know where we stand because we know where the word of God stands,
• 17:40
you know, and when it comes to Jesus alone being the Savior, heaven, hell, marriage, morality,
• 17:50
it's not hard if you trust what the Bible says and I do and we should. And David, I believe
• 17:58
compelling lines of evidence point to the authenticity and the trustworthiness of God's word.
• 18:05
So these shockingly low numbers of clergy and laity that actually hold to a biblically informed
• 18:14
perspective about the key issues of our times, it's because we're in an America that really for
• 18:22
about five decades, our theological schools, our seminaries have not really taught people
• 18:31
how to proclaim and defend the Bible. You know, we've had focus groups on how to maybe understand
• 18:39
or how to, you know, you empathize with other worldviews and obviously we care about people,
• 18:48
we empathize in the sense of caring about the the plight of our fellow human beings. But when it
• 18:56
comes to worldview, origin, purpose, destiny, you know, where did we come from? Why are we here?
• 19:03
Where are we headed? How does one prepare for eternity? And morally, how must one live till we
• 19:10
enter eternity? If you're a Christian and certainly if you're an ordained minister, you don't have
• 19:18
an opinion, you have what the word of God sits. Amen, brother. Amen. You say something very
• 19:26
interesting in this article. And again, it's on Alex's website, drain the swamp, question mark,
• 19:32
some churches need to drain the pulpit. And yes, I would love to see new pastors come in that do
• 19:37
teach the whole council of God. But you say in your article toward the end, if you are in a church
• 19:44
that teaches a biblical worldview, praise God, if not leave. I agree with you, Alex. And then
• 19:53
someone might say, but our friends go there. What's your response? Or we've been going there for years.
• 20:01
Yeah, I know. Look, it's not easy and it's not a decision I take lightly. But we've got to
• 20:06
remember, if you're a Christian, all of life is a proposition of stewardship. You know, Paul,
• 20:12
in first Corinthians 6, 19 and 20, Paul says, we are not our own. We're bought with a price. Now,
• 20:19
time is a non-renewable resource. Look, if you lose money, you can get more money. But all the time
• 20:26
you waste is unrecoverable. And everything post salvation, if you're a born again believer,
• 20:34
everything we do post salvation is about growing in Christ and contributing to the Great
• 20:42
Commission. I mean, really, that is our job description. And so I've got to say, look, since
• 20:50
most of these liberal denominations and these moderate milk toast woke pastors,
• 20:58
you got to speak in the one language they'll respond to. And that's money. And so there are a lot
• 21:06
of people listening and you're attending some dead morgue of a church and you need to take
• 21:12
your family and your checkbook and find a place where God is at work that the hour is late.
• 21:18
Jesus is coming back. He really is. People need to be saved. Our nation needs to be saved. We need
• 21:25
to stand with Israel. And you know, I realize we say, yeah, but my friends go to XYZ. Yeah, but
• 21:34
your friend didn't hang on a cross and die for you. Jesus did. And so I truly think it is the
• 21:43
hour is late. There's wokeness. I mean, my goodness, this is in the news today. A United Methodist
• 21:51
pastor drew a swastika on the grocery bags of a Jewish woman. The groceries were on her porch.
• 22:00
And this United Methodist minister drew an antisemitic symbol. And then when he was called out,
• 22:08
he denied it, lied, denied it. Then they said, well, we have your own video. But you've got to
• 22:14
understand the United Methodist Church. I've spoken UMC churches. I've dialoged with
• 22:20
denominational heads and pastors agonizing to get out of these liberal, you know, denominations.
• 22:29
The PC USA. And I don't use this term lightly. The PC USA is apostate that they are. And so I would say
• 22:40
parishioner that if you love the Lord, if you love the scripture, if you care about the great
• 22:46
commission, then for goodness sakes, find a church that honors Jesus and his word and plug in
• 22:54
there and don't waste another Sunday at some dead liberal morgue. Amen. Yeah, I'd appreciate your
• 23:01
straight talk, Alex McFarlane, because a lot of these denominations, there's splits over worldview
• 23:06
issues, over doctrine. And it's really sad for nation of homosexuals. Yes, yes. We lost our mind.
• 23:13
Yeah. And if you're watching, you might know someone who goes to a church with the rainbow flag
• 23:18
flying out front because they are, quote, unquote, welcoming or inclusive. But we're, give me the
• 23:24
book chapter in verse on that. You know what I mean? Alex, at the end of your article, you offer
• 23:31
several insights that parents can instill how they can instill a biblical worldview to the next
• 23:36
generation, begin early, reinforce your children's spiritual foundation, Hollywood, corporations,
• 23:43
governments, social media. They've done a disservice to a young people today, probably for more
• 23:48
than a generation. And they are not getting the biblical worldview anywhere else if they're not
• 23:52
getting it at home. So go ahead and share your final thoughts for parents today. Well, you know,
• 23:58
among other things, and I applaud the godly parents that are, you know, trying, praying for their
• 24:04
kids to know the Lord and grow in the Lord. But I want to say a word to the men out there to the
• 24:10
dads to be the priest of the home that God has called you to be. Have a daily devotion with your
• 24:16
wife. Do you know? There's things like open windows and our daily bread and the word for today. A
• 24:22
lot of good devotional books. When a husband and wife have a devotion together, the divorce rate is
• 24:30
like one divorce out of 1,100 couples. In other words, statistically nil. And so we need the men
• 24:39
to be the priest of the home and the godly shepherd of their family. And be in church. I say this
• 24:48
lose at anything else, but win with your children really. And we've got a lot of camps, conferences,
• 24:55
resources, my own website is AlexmanFarland.com. But I'm excited. God answers prayer. And I believe
• 25:02
there's a great awakening coming to our nation. And we all should want to be a part of it.
• 25:07
And you can get the books that we were talking about on Amazon. And which is great that they're still
• 25:14
on there. You haven't been, you know, canceled because we've seen that before. But yeah, 100
• 25:20
Bible questions and answers for families. That is the latest, right, Alex?
• 25:25
Yeah, that's the latest we've done. And listen, I give God the glory. We did the first 100 Bible
• 25:30
questions about three years ago. And it did okay. This one 100 Bible question and answers for
• 25:36
families came out October about six months ago. It's in every Barnes and Noble Costco Sam's Club,
• 25:43
Walgreens, Christianbook.com, Amazon. And this book has kind of swept along the first book. And
• 25:51
now the publisher is asking for a third book. So I value your prayers as, you know, the next six
• 25:58
months, I'll have to be writing. Well, you know, I've only got five books out. You've written more
• 26:03
than 20. And I remember one of our first podcasts together that we did. I asked you how on earth,
• 26:09
do you write about a book a year? And I'll never forget. You said, I try to write a chapter a month,
• 26:15
right? Yeah. I'll never forget. You told me that. But anyway, Alex, we appreciate your ministry. We
• 26:20
didn't even talk much about apologetics. But where can people listen to the Alex McFarlane show?
• 26:25
Oh, well, on, you know, Buzz Sprout, iTunes, all the podcast platforms and just
• 26:31
Mount website, which is Alex McFarlane.com. And I appreciate you. You're doing a great work.
• 26:36
Yes, worldview matters. And you present the Christian worldview very fruitfully. And I commend you.
• 26:42
Well, praise God. We're trying to equip the saints because as we've been talking about,
• 26:46
the church is not doing a great job at equipping them. Although there is a strong remnant
• 26:52
of true Bible-believing pastors and leaders out there. But a lot of people maybe are in the
• 26:58
ministry for the wrong reasons. And those are the ones you need to drain, right? From the pulpit.
• 27:03
Alex, brother, we hopefully we can talk to you again in the near future. God bless you and let us
• 27:07
know when you're in Wisconsin, okay? God bless. Thanks. All right. Bye-bye.
• 27:11
Alex McFarlane.com. I will go try some of the McFarlane peanut butter. There's a deal if you get
• 27:19
the crunchy and the creamy. So I'm going to get that. I encourage you to do that as well. Well,
• 27:24
anyway, friends, thanks again for sharing the podcast. God bless you and as always, keep speaking
• 27:29
the truth about things that matter.
