Transcript
- 0:00What's going on, everybody? Welcome to Josh and the Giants.
- 0:02You are in for a special treat this week.
- 0:05Let me tell you this. Last week, Ben and I watched
- 0:07every single God's Not Dead movie.
- 0:10Every single one. And we're going to talk through
- 0:12them, review them, rank them. Guys, it's going to be a sick
- 0:14episode, Ben. What do you think, Ben?
- 0:19No, no, no, no. No, no, no, no.
- 0:25OK, So hey, hey guys. I'm.
- 0:27I'm Ben. This is Josh.
- 0:28Welcome to the show. Like Josh said, it has been a
- 0:32week. Let me tell you something.
- 0:33It's been crazy. My brain is mush.
- 0:35Yeah. Because this was really like
- 0:38watching approximately, I would say, eight, 8 1/2 hours of the
- 0:42same thing over and over and over again.
- 0:46And it became especially monotonous because most of these
- 0:49movies are just full of the same actors.
- 0:51Yeah, I it felt like when I was a kid and I got dropped off at
- 0:56my grandma's house for like a week or two and it was just 700
- 1:00Club. Yeah. 700 Club, Yeah.
- 1:02Over and over and over there. Grandma, can we watch something?
- 1:05No, that's what I thought. I'm going to be honest, I have
- 1:07no but like I love movies, I love TVI want us to continue.
- 1:11We in in the last episode or two episodes ago.
- 1:13We I can't wait to watch whatever the best Joseph Smith
- 1:16movie. Is the one where he's a
- 1:17velociraptor? Yeah.
- 1:17There we go. Yep, and but I just think 5
- 1:20movies is too Dang much, especially whenever the 1st 2
- 1:24movies they make them two hours long because they didn't realize
- 1:27this isn't even enough for 90 minutes and then the next three
- 1:31they make 90 minutes. But you know what it really is?
- 1:34This was watching a whole season of a show.
- 1:37That's really what these this series is and you told me
- 1:40they're going to make AI was. About to say, is now a bad time
- 1:42to tell you They're making a 6th one like it's in the works right
- 1:46now. Really.
- 1:47Yeah. OK, how much you want?
- 1:49I want to go on calci and I want to make the bet of like will
- 1:52David AR White be in? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:55What's? God, it's not dead movies.
- 1:56It's literally like a trillion to one, but I I put 100.
- 2:00Bucks on it. I was going to say, will will
- 2:02David R White be president or will he be?
- 2:05Well, I think that's let's let's get in, let's say, let's say,
- 2:08OK, I mean, do we want to just jump in with?
- 2:11The very first one. Let's just get the notes out.
- 2:14Here we go. If if you wouldn't mind Ben,
- 2:16could we sing the song just to kind of intro into it?
- 2:20Ready. Mark, God's not dead.
- 2:24He's surely alive. Yeah, yeah, guys, by the way,
- 2:28literally the Justice League of this universe.
- 2:31And I can't wait, especially in the first one, and I cannot wait
- 2:35to talk about. It this is God's Not Dead one,
- 2:37probably the one everyone's most familiar with for sure.
- 2:40We all remember seeing this one coming out of the movie theaters
- 2:43texting God's Not Dead. Send this to 20 friends or else
- 2:47you're going to hell, whatever it was.
- 2:49One of the Robertsons telling you to do that in my I wrote
- 2:52down a bit of the cast and I wrote two Robertsons because I
- 2:54don't remember which one is. It will.
- 2:56It's the main the main ones. Willy, I don't know.
- 3:00Yeah, so this one on Rotten Tomatoes, would you like to
- 3:02guess what this Rotten Tomatoes score was?
- 3:05Yeah, I would, if I'm being nice, be nice 25%. 13% critics
- 3:13score on Rotten Tomatoes. Valid.
- 3:16I the thing that made me mad right when the show starts
- 3:19absolutely is they just introduced every single
- 3:22character within the 1st 5 minutes.
- 3:24Oh, my gosh. I'm like, can I tell you some of
- 3:27my favorite character introductions?
- 3:28Yeah, Go ahead. One of my favorite character
- 3:30introductions for somebody who I did not expect to be a mainstay
- 3:32of the series. Chinese guy who white girl at
- 3:36registration is surprised that he's Chinese.
- 3:38And what I mean by that is he's she, I guess he's filling in
- 3:41whatever. And she goes what's whatever.
- 3:44He's like, oh, it's the People's Republic of China.
- 3:45And she's like, seriously, I'm like, look up, look at him, hear
- 3:50his voice. I don't want to say countries,
- 3:52but dude, he's literally like, yes, OK, I can't do it.
- 3:55It was a little. Bit of I was a little.
- 3:57Spanish so sorry, I don't know how so sorry, so sorry.
- 4:01Literally that's how he talks to me.
- 4:02He's like, oh so sorry and. She's like, told him like.
- 4:05Really. From China.
- 4:06Do you think he has like a normal American voice?
- 4:07And they told him like, hey, I hope so.
- 4:09Really have. You ever heard of that Jimmy
- 4:11Wang Yang? No, Jimmy Wang Yang was a
- 4:14professional wrestler in like the early to mid 2000s.
- 4:16His whole bit was that he was a cowboy, but literally the whole
- 4:20bit was like, but he's an Asian cowboy, but he fully talked with
- 4:23a redneck accent. Yeah, and his literal name was
- 4:25Jimmy Wang. Yang Well see in in Texas at
- 4:28least, there for every small community there is a little
- 4:33Asian family that runs a donut shop.
- 4:35They're essentially a mafia. Yeah, like there, there's a
- 4:37whole documentary on it. I think it's primarily
- 4:39Vietnamese. But all that to be said, they,
- 4:42they, the kids grow up, they got accents.
- 4:44There's like 1 country Asian in every single small town in
- 4:47Texas. There's a donut shop, but my
- 4:50goodness, a hundred, 200 feet from our apartment.
- 4:53Yeah, the mom and dad are like, and I'm not trying to, but
- 4:57they're like, and then the daughter sometimes will be at
- 4:59the window and she's like, hi, how can I help you?
- 5:02And I'm like. When she's returning home from
- 5:04Stanford, type on break. Yeah, for real.
- 5:06Yeah. And she's like actively doing
- 5:07math while I'm like, can I do hogs?
- 5:09Those are the best ones. Sweet Asian families.
- 5:12Real real spill, real quick hogs, right?
- 5:15Do you prefer cranking them? But do you prefer a hog with a
- 5:20lot of bread or not much bread? Not much I need I need I need
- 5:24the the hog to. Bread and show meat.
- 5:26I need some meat, need some jalapeno up in that thing.
- 5:28Speaking of character introduction.
- 5:29No craw, no hogs cranked in this.
- 5:31This series lets you know right off the bat where they
- 5:33politically lean because one of the also great character
- 5:36introductions I just wrote down super Muslim dad and daughter
- 5:40because what was. Her name, remember.
- 5:42Her name? Yes, Aisha.
- 5:44Aisha who saw that coming? Dawg, wait, tell me why I
- 5:49watched five of these movies. This character Aisha is in at
- 5:53least two of them didn't even make the connection.
- 5:55I can't believe you. I know, but literally she
- 5:58loosely has a her head wrap on and he is like, This is why I
- 6:02wrote down super Muslim. They pull up to the college and
- 6:05he's like adjusting and he's like all these Americans.
- 6:09They don't know what you would. I can't do that.
- 6:11That's actually not bad. Thank you.
- 6:12All of these are Americans and he kind of looks like me a
- 6:14little bit He's a bald bigger guy.
- 6:16He's got a beard. There's also can I tell you
- 6:19this? I probably cried at every single
- 6:21one of these movies 'cause I'm ASAP and cried.
- 6:24And yes genuinely stop it 100% OK do.
- 6:28You want me to tell you where? You where you I could jump
- 6:30ahead. Save it I want I want to save it
- 6:32for the right time, OK? So anyway, super Muslim dad and
- 6:36daughter, he's like adjusting her head wrap when they pull up.
- 6:41I wrote, I wrote our main character, Josh.
- 6:44Josh Howitt, right? Heck yeah, I think so.
- 6:47Dude wearing Newsboys shirt because in slight spoiler for
- 6:50the rest of the movie, everything about this guy's life
- 6:54revolves around the Newsboys. Yep, he has a Newsboys poster in
- 6:58his room. That's where he met.
- 7:00He met. His girlfriend of six years at a
- 7:02Newsboys concert. Yep, and the culmination of the
- 7:06movie. Everyone in town, like in the
- 7:09city, goes to a freaking Newsboys concert.
- 7:13Anywho, so by the way, like if we had a time stamp, we're.
- 7:17A minute, maybe 2 minutes. OK, go ahead.
- 7:20So one of my favorite character introductions, and this goes
- 7:22into my role within this, I told Ben that I would do a black
- 7:25character counter. Just black people that have
- 7:28lines in any of these movies just to kind of keep track.
- 7:31One of the first black people to speak does not have any other
- 7:35lines really, but he's in Josh's class, dude.
- 7:39And he goes and your name is the professor?
- 7:41Asks G Dog. G Dog.
- 7:44Wait, hold up because his whole name is even better because you
- 7:47know this movie was I I wrote this down.
- 7:49You know this movie was written by a white, right?
- 7:51He wanted to get closer saying a certain word.
- 7:53He couldn't G dog Gerald Triga. His last name is Triga, his
- 8:00thing is Gerald Trigger, and literally Kevin Sorbo was like,
- 8:04by the way, I'm just going to say this now, Best actor in the
- 8:06movie. Sorbo.
- 8:07Sorbo, OH. Yeah, I would also say
- 8:09genuinely, especially in the beginning, before they make him
- 8:11like a cartoonish villain. He's like charming.
- 8:14You're like, oh, yeah, easily. I would like this teacher.
- 8:18I would want to, even if I knew he was an atheist, I'd be like,
- 8:20you're such a like before he like, I don't want to spoil it,
- 8:23but yeah. Sorbo, easily the best actor,
- 8:25takes the cake. 100% Kevin Sorbo, his son.
- 8:29Follows. I see some stuff.
- 8:30He doesn't follow me, I don't think.
- 8:31Yo little Sorbo, what the heck you look?
- 8:33I think Braden. Braden Braden dad and son duo on
- 8:37the pod. Braden, I'd be sick.
- 8:39I think I've seen where Kevin Sorbo has, like a good sense of
- 8:41humor. Yeah.
- 8:42Yeah. Where he's like, yeah, he knows.
- 8:44He. Probably knows what this movie
- 8:45is disappointed. You know what that means, Kev?
- 8:48Type B. So yeah, you got G dog.
- 8:50Which they couldn't have had it. It could have been more obvious
- 8:54that it's a white person writing a black person that unless they
- 8:56like, made him hold a basketball under his arm.
- 8:59Yo, I just dropped my mixtape. Now I'm in class.
- 9:01He has. A blunt in class.
- 9:04What's up, mother? Also, dude, hold up.
- 9:06I wrote down so much stuff, Somebody said.
- 9:09Somebody tells Josh, our hero and big old Christian boy in the
- 9:12movie, as he was signing up for this philosophy class that Sorbo
- 9:16teaches. Somebody says you're walking
- 9:18into the snake pit. That's not a saying.
- 9:23It's like you're walking into the lions den, not the snake.
- 9:26Pit maybe they were just like, we have to really drive home the
- 9:28point that this is not a Christian university.
- 9:30So like they can't make any biblical attitudes.
- 9:33I wrote down woman, woman concerned old woman is eating
- 9:37children. Don't even remember what that is
- 9:39from the movie. It must have just been some
- 9:41random line. Some random line where they
- 9:44thought it was like. Was this the lady with with?
- 9:46Dementia not eating children, eating chicken because she that
- 9:50cause dude, I was like shut up. This old woman who literally has
- 9:54dementia, which that whole thing is dumb and doesn't make any
- 9:56sense. This is going to be our longest
- 9:58pod. It was indeed the longest
- 9:59podcast ever. I'm going to say this right now.
- 10:01It will, but it's going to be worth it.
- 10:03It's going to be so worth it. Please hold on with us,
- 10:05especially if you've seen these movies.
- 10:06I would genuinely for break up this pod into like a week.
- 10:11Can I watch the episodes go? Ahead, knowledge on there real
- 10:14quick. We're sitting here lamenting on
- 10:16how strenuous it was to watch these movies, and now we're
- 10:21making a podcast about the movies and we're like, expecting
- 10:23people to be like, this is a great entertainment.
- 10:25Oh my gosh. Thanks guys.
- 10:26You guys talk about this Uber niche thing I've never seen.
- 10:29No, there's an old woman who has dementia.
- 10:32She has a nurse, somebody who you later find out is her
- 10:34daughter is there. And she's genuinely concerned
- 10:38because the nurse comes up and she's like, hey, Lydia, whatever
- 10:42your favorite thing for dinner. And the woman is so happy,
- 10:45enjoying. She's like chicken.
- 10:47And then the nurse goes over to the woman and she's like, yeah,
- 10:50she had it for the last five days, too.
- 10:52And the woman, on her face, it's like she just told her she gave
- 10:55her cocaine. She's literally like, should we
- 10:58give her something else? It's like it's chicken.
- 11:00It's literally chicken and vegetable.
- 11:02She's good. She that's literally.
- 11:03She's eating better than you, by the way.
- 11:05She's an old person. They don't eat.
- 11:06Yeah, thank God. She like has teeth.
- 11:09But anyway, that's also stupid because she's like the later
- 11:12stuff in the movie, like I said, that's her daughter.
- 11:15And then she's she's like surprised she has dementia, even
- 11:18though they're like, oh, she's had dementia for years.
- 11:20Yeah, why? I'm still what is this?
- 11:22Did we write this movie on the day?
- 11:24Yeah, they're just figuring it out.
- 11:25My gosh. Anyway.
- 11:26Anyways, after the intros, the next thing I write I wrote down
- 11:31and I forget what I was even watching.
- 11:33Yeah, was liberal news media. It's just like, well, yeah, just
- 11:37the girl is instantly like, I don't know, hotshot reporter
- 11:40with liberal news media. Oh, my gosh.
- 11:41And it's like, of course you are.
- 11:43And they couldn't have made her look like the whole thing about
- 11:46Duck Dynasty. This is, I think I'm going in
- 11:49order. No one watches that show and
- 11:52thinks like, yeah, these guys are like the smartest.
- 11:55Also genuinely, what percentage of people that watch Duck
- 11:58Dynasty were not at least center right?
- 12:02Yeah, one person. I mean, seriously, not no jokes.
- 12:05I'm sure I've never watched it. I'm sure it was a fun show.
- 12:07It was fun. It looked fun.
- 12:08It looked enjoyable. Because she's all like, don't
- 12:11you think you're, like, making some people upset?
- 12:14No, no. Nobody watching the show.
- 12:16No one. Are they praying to Jesus?
- 12:17They're killing animals. They're hunting.
- 12:19Well, that's the other thing. She's like, you kill these ducks
- 12:22and you can even see on his face he's like, what?
- 12:24Yeah. Yeah, we kill them.
- 12:26That's what we do. I wrote down my next thing.
- 12:29I wrote down. Josh's girlfriend is insane.
- 12:31Yeah, she is. She's clinically insane.
- 12:33Yeah, she on the first day of class, Josh's teacher literally
- 12:38is like, hey, everybody write down God is dead because he's
- 12:42comically a like an atheist. But this whole thing is like,
- 12:45Nietzsche's God is dead. We've and that's somebody has to
- 12:48say in every single movie, we've grown past religion and da, da,
- 12:52da da, which like there's part of me that's like, is this real?
- 12:55And then you get online and you're like, Oh no, this
- 12:56actually is more people. Than you'd like to, but those
- 12:58people aren't professors. Usually they're just like in
- 13:02their mother's basement. Well, yeah, I don't know.
- 13:05A lot of them also have like degrees in theology and you're
- 13:08like. Dan McClellan.
- 13:09Yeah, it's just Dan. McClellan Oh, that should be
- 13:11fun. McClellan I can't wait to see.
- 13:13All right, let's see it. Dan's gonna, Dan's gonna
- 13:17deconstruct our our review of God's not Danny's gonna be like,
- 13:20actually, I watched the movie and everything they said is
- 13:23completely incorrect. Wow, Kevin Sorbo is the hero and
- 13:26it's a really unfortunate ending about him then.
- 13:27Which is gosh, we are so OK, OK, so the first day of class in the
- 13:33philosophy class, he tells everybody right down God is
- 13:35dead. Josh, super Christian of the
- 13:37movie, is like, I can't do that. I gotta defend my faith and his
- 13:41girlfriend is like fuck you. Like.
- 13:43No, of our, all of our plans, you're going to ruin it because
- 13:47you're going to fail this. Place.
- 13:48They're freshmen. They're 18.
- 13:50This is their first day of this is they.
- 13:52Just got there. Dude, Oh my gosh, they're right
- 13:55in there. And she's like, no, no, I forbid
- 13:58you. I forbid you.
- 14:01OK What? Yeah, also, it's like 30,
- 14:03whatever. But she's like, you would think
- 14:06also, they met at a news voice. She's also a Christian.
- 14:09But the movie is very clearly like, yeah, but Josh is a real
- 14:11Christian. She's not.
- 14:12She's she's a lukewarm. She's a piece.
- 14:14Of garbage whole endeavor is like throughout the entire
- 14:17semester and it's only like 20 minutes.
- 14:20I have a couple of classes like it's not like this would take
- 14:22him an astronomical like I've been dedicating like like
- 14:27thousands of hours. It's like, yeah, I just like
- 14:29you'd study a. Bit more yeah.
- 14:30Later on, she's pissed that he has like books in his bag and
- 14:32it's like, we're in college. What do you.
- 14:34I did write down somewhere there was a guy in the class who was
- 14:38like who left because it was a college class.
- 14:40You remember that guy? He's like, I'm out of here
- 14:43because Kevin Sorbo was like, you're going to have to work.
- 14:44And he's like, not me, by the way.
- 14:47Classroom age ranges 15 to 45. There was literally a 12 year
- 14:52old kid. I swear he was 12.
- 14:54And then the woman sitting next to Josh in the first day, Oh my
- 14:58gosh, it, it feels like PTSD how I can remember this so clearly.
- 15:01The woman sitting next to him, they clearly dolled her up to
- 15:03look younger. But she was somebody's mom.
- 15:05She was somebody's mom on set. But anyway, so yeah, I actually
- 15:09wrote something down here that in retrospect was not good.
- 15:12I wrote down Aisha's dad seems like a good guy because the next
- 15:19time we see him, and here's what I mean by that, here's what I
- 15:23mean by that, The next time we see him so bad, he's.
- 15:25He is like very Muslim, but he they write him with some degree
- 15:31of heart. Yeah.
- 15:32Because the next time we see them, they're in a car and he's
- 15:34like, look, I love you. I know it's really difficult
- 15:38because nobody else practices this.
- 15:39By the way, take her to a different school, Uber Christian
- 15:43School, which in the subsequent movies we find out like the
- 15:46school was founded by a whatever by a church that no, I can't
- 15:52believe we're still in the first one.
- 15:53I just wrote down. He seems like a good guy.
- 15:55I also wrote down a general church because you never really
- 15:59know the nomination. Really.
- 16:00They have like stained glass window.
- 16:01It's like vaguely they. Tried so hard they were like how
- 16:04can we incorporate every type of church building or church
- 16:08denomination so that like everyone.
- 16:10Watches we have 1 character in the third one, the judge that
- 16:14the brother has to go see who's I mean it's a Catholic Church.
- 16:17She's like you're interrupting mass.
- 16:19But this one it's like, I guess they could be Lutheran or
- 16:22something, whatever doesn't matter.
- 16:24Also, and I'm going to point this out now, there's an
- 16:26inconsistency in the series. I think it wasn't until later on
- 16:30that they plan on making it like a bloodline church thing.
- 16:35Oh like you got it from his dad and stuff.
- 16:36Because in the first one, he's like, I'm just the junior
- 16:38pastor. Yeah.
- 16:40You never see the senior pastor. Where's your dad?
- 16:42Yep. Anyway.
- 16:43So yeah, that didn't make sense on that point since we're
- 16:46getting to the church part. When?
- 16:49So this is the second black character that gets lines.
- 16:53It is the the painfully Nigerian, I already forgot his
- 16:56name, Jude. Yes.
- 16:58Jude So he's just like super African and they like, yeah, he
- 17:05gets lines, he's the second black person, but then he's
- 17:08somehow not familiar with rental cars because why would someone
- 17:11from Africa know what a rental? Car is they probably walk
- 17:14everywhere. Yeah, well, he was.
- 17:16Probably unfamiliar with shoes too.
- 17:18That's like the vibe of the movie though, by the way, That's
- 17:20what I'm saying. And he's also always like he has
- 17:22like like he just got hit in the head with a bat.
- 17:24He's. Just like everything's.
- 17:25All the time. Oh, my gosh.
- 17:27Oh, my gosh. Brother.
- 17:28Brother what? What's the white guy's name?
- 17:30Reverend Dave. Thank you, Reverend Dave.
- 17:32Reverend. Dave.
- 17:33Oh, I can't wait to talk about him for the next 3 1/2 hours.
- 17:36I'm going to skip around slightly.
- 17:38Everything about his life circles around the I think I
- 17:41said freaking here, Newsboys. Yep I wrote down liberal gets
- 17:46cancer lol because that's the whole thing. the Super Lib
- 17:50reporter. The next thing we see of her
- 17:52she's like I have cancer. Boyfriend could not care.
- 17:56Less boyfriend. Literally this girl goes up to
- 17:58her boyfriend like big dinner is weighing on her and she tells
- 18:01him like breaks the news and he's just like.
- 18:04Her boyfriend Dean Cain, a failed ICE agent.
- 18:07Dean Cain is comically evil. He could not care.
- 18:11He is literally like businessman only care about business.
- 18:15You have cancer. Sorry Dad, not business.
- 18:17She tells him that and he's like, couldn't you have told me
- 18:19this tomorrow? Because he he also, he
- 18:21celebrated something. And it's like, Oh my gosh, dude.
- 18:25No human would act like that, though.
- 18:26That's like the whole thing. It's like, how can we be so on
- 18:29the nose and drive home the point that this guy's a jerk?
- 18:32Let's just give his girlfriend cancer.
- 18:34His master. His master is money and that's
- 18:37you can tell because his what His master.
- 18:40You can't serve 2 masters. It's in the Bible.
- 18:42His master. I couldn't understand what.
- 18:44He was saying my God's nut dead. I also wrote down here go dude,
- 18:49perfect. Josh makes this unbelievably
- 18:54impressive slideshow because he does the first time like the so
- 18:58the whole thing is he has to do three kind of like
- 19:02demonstrations, right? And he gets 20 minutes at the
- 19:05end of like 3 different classes, the first one and it's like it
- 19:08seemingly it's like that week or the next week.
- 19:11He makes like a genuinely impressive slideshow full of all
- 19:14this like art transition transitions like crazy.
- 19:18Knocks it out of the park. I guess I also forgot in this
- 19:21movie The the the atheist professor is like pathetic as
- 19:25all get out. He has no good arguments, he
- 19:27can't say anything. Yeah, it's like, oh, you're
- 19:29educated and you've dedicated your entire.
- 19:31Life to this he also genuinely might kill Josh because after
- 19:35the first time that after the first day where Josh gives his
- 19:38slideshow, he literally like physically stops him in the
- 19:41hallway and he's like, you don't think you're going to make a
- 19:43fool out of me? I don't think so, buddy.
- 19:46Not in like there's people walking by and it's like you
- 19:49proposed the thing you did this. You're letting me do this.
- 19:52You've been doing this for like 30.
- 19:53Years, yeah. You haven't like prepared that
- 19:55someone would say. No one.
- 19:56No one else was ever like I actually, I don't think.
- 19:58God, I'll take you up on your. Offer all those people he
- 20:00killed, those people He's like, I don't know what happened to
- 20:03Jared anyway. Muslim girl is secret Christian.
- 20:08Yep, good, cool, I'm. Yeah, the.
- 20:12OK, cool. Like, Yep, I don't know, the
- 20:15iPod Touch was a pretty sick. That was sick.
- 20:17Also, the camera focuses on it for so long.
- 20:19It's like, I get it. She's she's listening to the
- 20:22Bible. Yeah.
- 20:24Also beat up your brother. Her brother storms in and, like,
- 20:27sees it. And she's like, you can't tell
- 20:29to Papa. It's like you're a what?
- 20:30Happened to blackmailing your sibling.
- 20:32Be like, don't tell Papa or I'm gonna.
- 20:35Hit you. Yeah, there should have been a
- 20:36scene where he's like smoking cigs and he's like you better
- 20:38shut up Aisha to otherwise. Anyway, I also wrote Josh loses
- 20:436 year long relationship because he defended his faith, which I
- 20:47get is like part of the thing in the movie is like he's willing
- 20:49to give up anything. But again, his girlfriend is
- 20:51clinically insane. Yeah, he and he's like doing
- 20:54well with the thing and she's like I hate you.
- 20:58It's over. And even Josh is like, really?
- 21:00Are you serious? We just yeah, the whole.
- 21:02Idea of that I feel like is to your point like, oh, he's giving
- 21:04up so much, but like you watch that and you're like, good for
- 21:07him. So much better.
- 21:08For real. Based on a sacrifice.
- 21:09Can I be honest with you? You know what I wanted to
- 21:11happen. Wanted Josh and Aisha to get
- 21:13together. Loki kind of thought they were
- 21:16going with that because Aisha is same.
- 21:19Aisha. OK.
- 21:20Aisha's at the school. Yeah.
- 21:22I have a feeling Aisha's like 30.
- 21:24Did you get that vibe at all? No.
- 21:26No. OK, maybe maybe they're the same
- 21:28age, but I was low key. I kind of, I didn't remember the
- 21:31movie because I'd seen it years ago and I was like, do they end
- 21:34up together? They could they go?
- 21:35So I would have been like my dog Josh.
- 21:36No, no, no. Every dude, these movies are
- 21:41like afraid of a guy having a remotely sexual relationship
- 21:45with a woman. Yep.
- 21:46Every main character dude is asexual.
- 21:49Like, except for yeah, I don't know.
- 21:52Do we even see a kiss? Like, I don't know.
- 21:54I didn't write it down. Not the first one at least.
- 21:56No, because the one couple? Well, no, I bet we do see a
- 21:59kiss, probably between the professor and Mina.
- 22:03But they're not. They're not married, so they're
- 22:05sinful. That's sinful.
- 22:06Weird thing I wrote down. Black guy white guy subplot
- 22:09sucks because it does it. Does.
- 22:11Especially in the first one. In the first one the whole thing
- 22:14is literally OH or core broke down.
- 22:18And then the pastor's like, man, my life really sucks.
- 22:20And then the Africans guys like, what is good?
- 22:23When I was growing up, we did not have any food.
- 22:25And it's like, oh, you got you starve because you're from
- 22:27Africa. And that's all we know about
- 22:28Africa because you guys don't have food or rental cars.
- 22:31Yeah. Type B, that's a line in the
- 22:32movie and it actually says that the number of times and it
- 22:35happens. I'm almost glad that something
- 22:38happens in the third movie because then I don't have to
- 22:40hear these guys back and forth go God is good all the time.
- 22:43All the time God is good. They do.
- 22:47It makes me upset to be. Yeah, watching.
- 22:49You know what I mean? Yep.
- 22:51That's the thing. The movie nails it, where I hate
- 22:53the atheist characters because they're comically atheist.
- 22:56The movie fails because I hate the Christian characters too.
- 22:58I hate everybody. Everybody kind of sucks, except
- 23:00for in each movie there's one stand out, and in this one for
- 23:03me, Kevin Sorbo, I don't. Thought you're gonna say the
- 23:05Muslim dad. Well, he's a, he's a good guy.
- 23:08He's he's, he's good. People, man, I.
- 23:10Wrote down professor dating old student because she was and they
- 23:14do. They do a whole thing.
- 23:15And this is kind of the point where he starts.
- 23:17Well, I mean, I guess whenever he like, physically confronts
- 23:19Josh in the hallway, he's becoming more comically evil.
- 23:23But in this he he's like Dean Kane.
- 23:25He just couldn't care less about the woman he's been involved
- 23:27with for years. She's like, but you know about
- 23:29my faith. And he's like, I know you're an
- 23:31idiot. And she's like, stop.
- 23:34The. Lowest self esteem you've ever
- 23:38seen on a woman is Mina. I was like, yeah, I know you're
- 23:41insanely stupid and low and she's just like, OK.
- 23:44These are OK these are two these are two thoughts back-to-back
- 23:48professor and Mina give abusive couple energy yes the next thing
- 23:52I wrote down is Mina sucks to be honest because she sucks dude
- 23:57she has no personality she's. Just kind of like she, she put
- 24:00herself in this awful situation and she's just whiny about it.
- 24:03She sucks, and then she finally stands up for herself.
- 24:05And then she kind of sucks again.
- 24:07Cuz flash forward to the end a bit.
- 24:09They're at the new. They're at the Newsboys concert
- 24:11that everybody in the city goes to.
- 24:13And she tells the professor, just give your life to Jesus.
- 24:15And he's like, I don't believe. And she's like, OK, well, I'm
- 24:18going to go listen to the Newsboys.
- 24:20OK, great. Isn't that awesome Here, Go
- 24:23ahead. Oh, can I get to the point in
- 24:24the movie where I cried? Yeah.
- 24:25Oh yes please. Can you guess what it was?
- 24:29Oh, real quick, I wrote down the soundtrack is terrible because
- 24:32it was. Yeah, soundtrack sucked.
- 24:34It like the sound cues were insane.
- 24:36It was just it was comically like like, oh, this is a tense
- 24:40scene, bum, bum, bum, bum. And you're like, what the just
- 24:45do no noise. I also wrote down the movie
- 24:47remembers Aisha exists because even in our conversation, it's
- 24:51fairly soon recently that we talked about the brother thing.
- 24:54There's 30 to 45 minutes until we see Aisha again.
- 24:58And then now, Josh, can you guess whenever I cried in the
- 25:00first movie? Does it have a scene to do with
- 25:03the old lady? No, no, it's not that.
- 25:05That's a decent scene. I would actually, it's fine.
- 25:08But no, it's whenever Aisha is abused for being a Christian, I
- 25:14genuinely like they broke me up because she's like, no Papa, no
- 25:18Bubba. I believe in Jesus.
- 25:19I believe. And he is literally like
- 25:21smacking her around the house. He's knocking her down the
- 25:24stairs, throws her outside. And I'm like, I was crying, like
- 25:27I was tearing up and I was like. Son of a gun that's easily like
- 25:30the most. Yeah, I, I wrote, I cried.
- 25:35Chinese kid wants to be a Christian, but his dad is
- 25:36against it. I'm just going to RIP through a
- 25:38couple of these because we want to get to the final thing.
- 25:40Professor gets dumped and looks like such a loser.
- 25:43Bravo Damina. She walks in.
- 25:45She walks in whenever he is like at work in front of his dogs poo
- 25:49pooing on this Christian kid who has been murdering him in the
- 25:52back and forths. It's not even close.
- 25:55And she just walks up and she's like, hey, Professor Kevin
- 25:58Sorbo, we're done. And he's like, you can't do that
- 26:00to me. And she's like, we're done.
- 26:01And then leaves finally stood out for herself.
- 26:03Finally one thing I want to throw in too the the the whole
- 26:08thing of like people being frustrated with God, like the
- 26:14the son that's like businessman or whatever.
- 26:16Because in case you didn't know, Kevin Sorbo's girlfriend is
- 26:21related to the bad businessman that told the Liberal, I don't
- 26:23care that you have cancer. Well, Kevin Sorbo's girlfriend
- 26:26is the daughter of the dementia mom.
- 26:28Yeah, but he's the son. Yeah, he's the Yeah.
- 26:31Like he's frustrated with God, like at the end, like talking to
- 26:34her, like your God turned his back on you and it's like she's
- 26:3690 with dementia. Like she's lived a good long
- 26:38life. I don't really understand.
- 26:42Oh God. You let me live to 90 but I had
- 26:45dementia in my final year like. Yeah, we don't really get
- 26:47anything with him. And I mean, spoiler alert, but
- 26:50his character comes back. We don't get anything more.
- 26:52He is comically evil. Every time we see him, he sucks.
- 26:55He just sucks. And even in this, the mom has
- 26:57like a good and that's probably one of the most clipped parts of
- 27:00this movie I've seen. Like on Instagram, just
- 27:02scrolling. It's good.
- 27:04The mom has like a whole thing where it's like, I don't even
- 27:07really remember it, but it's just like, you know, God is
- 27:09good. Like she's coherent for a second
- 27:10all the time. Yeah.
- 27:11And all the time God is good. She doesn't say that.
- 27:13It's much better than that. So let's get to the culmination,
- 27:15all right, please. So the whole the final debate
- 27:18scene, Yep, there's turned I'm yelling at you and I'm yelling
- 27:22at you and blah. Blah, blah.
- 27:23Well, Kevin Sorbo precedes it and he's like, we're gonna
- 27:25switch it up. Not really.
- 27:27In the last one or two, he's been interjecting at the end,
- 27:30but go ahead, go ahead. So I'm I'm yelling and I'm
- 27:32yelling and then it's like this heightened scene or whatever.
- 27:35And and then Josh is looking at the professor like, do you hate
- 27:37God? Do you hate him?
- 27:39And he goes, yes, I hate him. How can you hate someone if they
- 27:42don't exist? Drops the microphone.
- 27:46And literally like, look at me, this Kevin Sorbo is literally,
- 27:51again, you haven't thought about that for 30 years.
- 27:54You've been hating God and making a thing where you like
- 27:56literally pull down your pants and poop on every Christian in
- 27:59your class. And you haven't thought about
- 28:00the fact that because your mom died of cancer as a child and
- 28:03right then you were like, God, he and my mom and he didn't do
- 28:06it. And then you were like, oh, I
- 28:07hate God. You've never, you've never
- 28:09connected those dots. Men.
- 28:12Yeah, dude, guys, they internalize their feelings.
- 28:16You like be in touch with your emotions.
- 28:19So yeah, Josh murders that I actually wrote down.
- 28:21I kind of like the last debate. The last, I mean, it is cheesy,
- 28:25whatever. I will say this, the best actor
- 28:27in the movie is Kevin Scorbo, easily the character, the actor
- 28:30who plays Josh in in all of the little bits where he's giving a
- 28:34demonstration. That's where he shines.
- 28:36He did well. That's Yeah.
- 28:37I mean, I bet that guy, I mean, I don't know, he could be like a
- 28:41a speaker. He'd give a mean Ted.
- 28:42Talk. He would give a mean Ted talk
- 28:43every other time and it is pretty much the same.
- 28:46In the other movies he comes back and not great.
- 28:49It's very much like reading off the script.
- 28:51But for some reason, right then he locks in and then after that.
- 28:56Michael Tate. Oh my.
- 28:57Gosh, we see Michael Tate, the News Boys are playing.
- 29:00They're all at the concert and we're.
- 29:02Dancing. The boys got the news.
- 29:03Let me tell you something. The Michael Tates.
- 29:05Yeah. Oh, go ahead.
- 29:06Sorry. No, I was no, I was just going
- 29:07to say a fake old letter from dead mom.
- 29:10Kevin Sorbo. He's he's like looking over the
- 29:12pieces of paper from the beginning of the movie where
- 29:13people wrote God is dead. And he opens a drawer and there
- 29:17is like a comically aged letter. They clearly took a piece of
- 29:20paper yesterday and put coffee on it.
- 29:22And they're just and he's and it's literally his mom being
- 29:24like, hey son, I'm such a Christian and I hope God,
- 29:28Christian, Christian, and I hope you're a Christian.
- 29:30I hope you do what God? And he's just like, like
- 29:33literally that's the point of the letter is like, I'm dying of
- 29:36cancer, how it hurts so bad. But I hope you do.
- 29:39What Christian do Christian Christian Bible verse Anyways
- 29:42I'm going to die now. And then on his desk, for some
- 29:44reason, he has a newspaper. How many people read the
- 29:46newspaper? I mean, this was 2014.
- 29:48OK, he probably was right. Fair enough.
- 29:50Fair enough. My bad.
- 29:51Sorry, and on the newspaper owns head.
- 29:56Sorry, I know that you owned up. There like J Jon to J with a
- 29:59cigar. God, I know that you own the
- 30:01news Boys. Anyway, and on his desk there's
- 30:08a big thing where it's like Christian rock band or whatever
- 30:11comes to town and he's there's no thing where he's like, oh,
- 30:16does Mina even say she likes the.
- 30:17News No. No.
- 30:18He's just like I know where Mina be there he runs because nobody
- 30:22drives in this movie. He literally runs across town to
- 30:25the to the arena finds her, which if anybody ever been to
- 30:29arena, there's a few thou people finds her no problem.
- 30:33Every character in the movie literally outside of Aisha's dad
- 30:38is at the Newsboys concert. Chinese kid at the Newsboys
- 30:41concert. We we completely skipped over.
- 30:43He has a whole thing with his dad because China, because I
- 30:46mean China. A lot of Chinese people aren't
- 30:48Christian and it's very heavily. Sure, OK, sure.
- 30:51But also the Chinese kid being as annoying as he is makes me
- 30:55not care. What's up guys?
- 30:56We're going to get right back to the podcast, but wanted to stop
- 30:59and say thank you. Thank you so much for watching
- 31:01or listening to Josh and the Giant.
- 31:03Wherever you do, If you haven't, take some time to go to
- 31:05joshandthegiant.com and support us.
- 31:07Consider becoming a member. Check out our merch.
- 31:10I definitely haven't pissed myself.
- 31:11Guys. Thank you again so much for
- 31:13supporting the pod. God bless.
- 31:15Not even a bitch anyway. Literally everybody's at the at
- 31:17the Newsboys. Mina Aisha, Josh Martin, the
- 31:21Chinese kid, Josh, of course he is Michael Tate.
- 31:25Michael Tate is definitely there.
- 31:26Also, I've never really listened to the Newsboys.
- 31:29I didn't know their drummer had like a Mohawk and and like a
- 31:32tight tee and he's and he's like a little buff and he's just
- 31:36drumming. Make you feel some type of way.
- 31:40And going back to cancer Lib, she shows up and she's doing
- 31:45she's kind of trying to do her thing again of like Newsboys,
- 31:48you, you, you talk about your faith, God and you with God.
- 31:51And they're like, yeah, actually God.
- 31:54And she's like, and then they pray over her.
- 31:57And by the way, maybe that could happen.
- 32:00Sure. What does not happen is
- 32:02somebody, one of the the the like stage texts comes over and
- 32:05they're like, hey guys, we got to go on.
- 32:07And Michael Tate's like, can you give us a minute?
- 32:09Because I fully believe in real life.
- 32:11They'd be like, OK, bye Amy, bye.
- 32:12We got to go do so we got to go do.
- 32:14In real life, too. In what world are because the
- 32:18news, the News Boys were big in 2014.
- 32:20In what world are some of the biggest artists getting ready
- 32:23for their stadium show with thousands of people and then
- 32:26just anyone with a badge can just kick down the door to their
- 32:29thing? Like hey guys, it's me.
- 32:32Woke liberal media news. What's up you Jesus Christian
- 32:36Jesus. Jesus.
- 32:37Yep. How about that?
- 32:38Where does that come from? I don't know.
- 32:40No, no, bodyguards don't now. To be fair, I would say were the
- 32:44news was big in 2014 a 100% they were still Christian rock.
- 32:47Yeah, but they they wouldn't. Just they were big.
- 32:49They were huge. Yeah.
- 32:50We should look up their net worth.
- 32:51Can you look that up? Can you look up Michael Tate net
- 32:53worth just for something in the background, it's pretty good.
- 32:56Circle 2014. Not now, right?
- 32:58I mean, I don't know but. They have like a line graph.
- 33:02Huge and straight up. That's the end of the movie.
- 33:05That's the end of the movie. Oh no, it's not.
- 33:07No, it's not. There's the thing.
- 33:10So Mina and the professor, we talked about this a while ago.
- 33:14We've been going for so long. Mina and the professor, they
- 33:17can't reconcile. Nope.
- 33:19And he's like fine. So he take, we watch him walk
- 33:24back across town for like 2 minutes, it starts to rain, blah
- 33:28blah blah. He goes across a crosswalk and
- 33:31gets hit by a car. Yep and black guy white guy are
- 33:36right there. They didn't hit him.
- 33:38I genuinely forgot how the movie ended so I thought do they hit
- 33:41him? They don't.
- 33:42They're just a car right there. What's Michael Tay's not worth?
- 33:455 million. See.
- 33:48See what I mean? And then Newsboys as a whole,
- 33:50like around Ted. Oh my gosh.
- 33:53So he was screwing them over. Yeah.
- 33:54Lead singer. I mean, he was.
- 33:55Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:56Also the black one and also the third black guy to talk in this
- 33:59movie. 3 black people with speaking lines.
- 34:02In the 1st 1G dog what? Was it?
- 34:04What was it? What was it?
- 34:06G Dog. G Dog Black Pastor Michael Tate.
- 34:08That's it. Crazy.
- 34:10Anyway, So yeah, he gets hit by a car, they bust out of their
- 34:14car to go help him. They're decent enough guys,
- 34:16sure. Also, their whole subplot.
- 34:18Their car's not working because they're going to go to a place
- 34:20and then finally the car does work.
- 34:22And it leads them to this. Moment.
- 34:23That's why they're the moment, dude.
- 34:26Is somehow savvy enough medically now to fill Sorbo's
- 34:30chest once? Oh, his lungs are like bleeding.
- 34:33Like filling with blood. He's only got a couple of
- 34:35minutes. Well, he go and this I could
- 34:37believe if I felt your ribs and they were broken.
- 34:39Yeah, I could probably tell that, but yes, he goes.
- 34:42Oh, and he has punctured a lung. He's dying.
- 34:44Yeah, which is X-ray. It's so funny because he is
- 34:48literally Kevin Sorbo's selling it pretty well.
- 34:50He's like and he's acting his Dave Kevin Sorbo's.
- 34:55Acted his butt off. And Pastor Dave is like, do you,
- 35:00do you have Jesus Christ here, Lord?
- 35:01And he's like, no, I don't believe.
- 35:04And he's like, literally the whole thing is like, maybe you
- 35:06should believe. And he's like, OK, And then he
- 35:11does, and then he dies. Could Kevin Sorbo really did
- 35:15kind of crush this 12? Three my God's not dead.
- 35:20He's sure. Yeah.
- 35:22Hashtag God's not dead. Text 10 people.
- 35:24Text 20 people or computer, make them gay.
- 35:28Computer make these people text 10 people and then there's
- 35:3010,000 people and that's a million.
- 35:33And then they all send us $1.00. And then everybody gives a
- 35:36dollar, but just us but. We give it a dollar, Yeah, Yep.
- 35:39So that's the end of the first one.
- 35:41Matt. How long have we been recording?
- 35:4430. 8 minutes too long, Son of a gun.
- 35:46What's good is that I didn't write down any notes for any
- 35:48other. Movies.
- 35:48Yeah, the other ones sucked somehow worse.
- 35:50Out of five, what would you give the 1st?
- 35:52One, just you personally, 2 yeah, two I'll probably give
- 35:57you. Only if I wasn't a Christian I'd
- 35:59give it a freaking 0. Oh my gosh, I would turn it off
- 36:01so quick. Yeah.
- 36:02But yeah, I'll give it a 22. OK, Rotten Tomatoes for the
- 36:05second one. The first one was 15/13/13.
- 36:10It was this one like 910%. Hey.
- 36:15Dude, I don't know what? I don't know how bad the
- 36:20residual checks from Brittany the vampire, whatever she was in
- 36:24Buffy the teenage witch. What was it?
- 36:27Selena, the teenage witch. What was Melissa?
- 36:29Joan Harden. She's in this.
- 36:32She is. Let's paint the scene, Yeah?
- 36:33Sabrina the Teenage Wish Sabrina.
- 36:35The teenage wish she just needed some money for real for real.
- 36:37So let's paint paint the scene for you.
- 36:39God's not dead 2 same setting. It's still in the same Arkansas
- 36:44community where the the the college is and the church is.
- 36:47But this time. Probably two or three years
- 36:50later. Two or three years later, a
- 36:52history teacher at a high school, a student asks her a
- 36:55question about Gandhi or Abraham Lincoln and then brings in the
- 36:59students like what about the teachings of Jesus and the the
- 37:02teacher answers on the affirmative, like, like this is
- 37:05what Jesus taught, like the most factual.
- 37:07Thing, Yes. The student asks.
- 37:10Did teachers, did teachers, did Jesus teach this?
- 37:13Pretty much. And she's like, yes, Jesus said
- 37:15blah blah blah. Yep, and then that leads to a
- 37:17court case and then that's the movie.
- 37:19That's it. It's just it.
- 37:20That's the. That's the.
- 37:21Summary the synopsis of course I want to jump.
- 37:24I didn't write any of this down. The girl who asked the question,
- 37:28her parents are like so crazy atheist.
- 37:31They hear about that, they sue the teacher.
- 37:34That's the court case. Those people I was waiting for
- 37:37like some sort of like redemption arc.
- 37:40They are, like, just evil because her brother, there's a
- 37:44huge part of the movie, her brother died.
- 37:47They could not care less. They're literally like, hey, so
- 37:51how's the housing market, going to college, Go to college.
- 37:54Yeah, They at one point in the movie, they called the Salvation
- 37:57Army to come pick up their stuff.
- 37:58And the mom is literally this cold about it.
- 38:00Hey, Mina, or whatever the girl's name is, those charity
- 38:04people are here to get your brother's stuff.
- 38:05Can you make sure they get everything?
- 38:07The brother died like a year ago.
- 38:09And she, which was also a long scene, she goes and sits on his
- 38:13bed and you literally watch people take boxes out of the
- 38:18room. Like there's probably half a
- 38:19dozen boxes and they pick up one at a time.
- 38:21And the whole thing is, again, terrible soundtrack for this
- 38:24whole series. But it's like, Josh, pretend
- 38:27like you're sitting on a bed ready, and I'll do the
- 38:29soundtrack. That's it.
- 38:36And then one of them kind old woman, which I don't know why
- 38:38they sent her to move boxes, but she's like, hey, found this
- 38:42amongst your brother's stuff. It's a Bible.
- 38:44She didn't know her brother was a Christian.
- 38:46This OK, You know what? Because not you didn't take
- 38:49notes for this one too, right? No.
- 38:50Really. I did my black people counter
- 38:52and then I just wrote down this is this is literally what I
- 38:56wrote down is black people counter.
- 38:59ACLU is filing a lawsuit over this.
- 39:03Then I said, what are they arguing about?
- 39:06Dude from John Tucker Must Die is her lawyer.
- 39:11Did you ever see that movie? Whenever, Yeah.
- 39:12That didn't convince me at all. He did not convince me in that
- 39:16role, like the role as an attorney.
- 39:18My gosh, no. Well, I mean, his best moment is
- 39:20kind of at the end whenever he. Yeah, but no, he.
- 39:24I don't. Yeah.
- 39:26That movie. Very quick tangent, John Tucker
- 39:28Must Die was a movie whenever I was a kid that made me falsely
- 39:31think what high school would be like.
- 39:33I was like, Oh my gosh, so, so many girls.
- 39:36Wait a minute, so many girls like you fool with.
- 39:39And then oh, my gosh. Like, that's what I thought.
- 39:41Because he's like the hottest guy in the school and they're
- 39:43all the hottest girls, like love him.
- 39:44And then they want to kill him. Anyway.
- 39:46He plays her attorney and his whole thing is like one of the
- 39:50few pretty chill atheists in the series.
- 39:53He's like, I don't believe, but you know what?
- 39:55I used to have rights. Actually, thinking about it, he
- 39:58does the same thing the brother does in the third one, which his
- 40:02whole thing is like, I'm an atheist, but you know what, you
- 40:04have rights, so I'm going to defend you.
- 40:06Whoa, whoa. Devil from Reaper is in it.
- 40:09Anybody who has seen that great show The Devil from Reaper, you
- 40:13can look at the actor. He's been in a million things
- 40:15comically evil. And he goes to meet with the
- 40:18parents of the girl and drops. Yeah.
- 40:20And I'm going to let you say this, Josh, the line of the
- 40:23movie. Go ahead.
- 40:25We're going to prove once and for all that God is finally
- 40:30dead. Yep.
- 40:31Out of it nowhere out of for real, dude.
- 40:34Great. Hey, give him his check.
- 40:36That's great. They literally just had to.
- 40:38They literally thought that they just had to include OK, God is
- 40:42dead. OK, let's have an antithesis.
- 40:44OK, now and then really you think nothing else happens in
- 40:48the movie? There's like drama where also
- 40:53was Sadie Robertson. She was like the friend of the
- 40:56girl whose brother died, and she's just kind of Sadie
- 40:59Robertson's just like, I'm filming you, I'm filming you,
- 41:01and that was kind of it. By the way, the teacher you want
- 41:04a new fun fact. Yes.
- 41:06Budget for 5 million for this movie.
- 41:08No it wasn't. It's 5 million.
- 41:10Well, you know what I heard about these movies?
- 41:112,000,000 for the first one. Oh, what?
- 41:15What? They got Sorbo for that cheap?
- 41:18Wow. 64,000,000 at the box office Oh my gosh 24,000,000 for
- 41:22this the. Minute, dude, they said.
- 41:25We're making ten of these bad boys.
- 41:26For real. For real.
- 41:27Well, OK, so a mutual friend of ours, Connor McLaughlin, he told
- 41:31me that these movies are like, legit money laundering schemes,
- 41:36that I believe that some of the way that they raise their funds
- 41:39is from, like, mega churches. Yeah.
- 41:42Donating money and, like, becoming partial owners of the
- 41:44film, becoming producers. Yeah.
- 41:46And then said churches will use church funds to buy a bunch of
- 41:50tickets, So all that money just goes back to them.
- 41:53No way. For real.
- 41:55And then, yeah, it was just a whole thing.
- 41:57He sent me. I got the voicemail.
- 41:58I could play. That's not.
- 41:59But I believe it. Oh, IA 100%.
- 42:01I believe it because you also watch these movies.
- 42:03And it's like, yeah, these aren't real movies.
- 42:04This is like, no, this this is something to have on a streaming
- 42:08service and scroll by. Yes.
- 42:09And you may be wondering why aren't they talking more about
- 42:11the plot? Well, there is not.
- 42:13There's no plot. There's.
- 42:14No plot in the second movie. There's no plot.
- 42:17Melissa Joan Hart is like just a Christian lady, the teacher who
- 42:21cares for her dad at home, who like, why even have that?
- 42:25No point. I genuinely, I wanted this movie
- 42:27to end. Whether she wins or loses the
- 42:30court case, he falls over at home and nobody's around to help
- 42:32him. Yep, they just cut away and he's
- 42:35like, Oh my hip and. Then 'cause she's like, he's
- 42:38like. Making popcorn on the stove and
- 42:40it's like smoke fills the house and he's like oh baby.
- 42:44And then nothing. And then nothing comes of it.
- 42:48But no. And then they just.
- 42:50She goes to court because she gets sued by the kids family for
- 42:54and they're just. Which it's crazy 'cause it's
- 42:57like a big gotcha moment. Also, the dude who's an attorney
- 43:00is so dumb, so stupid that he doesn't also know that Jesus is
- 43:04a historical figure. They're like, wait a second,
- 43:06he's like. You're a history teacher.
- 43:09What if we can? Prove.
- 43:11That Jesus real quick existed. I just realized where a lot of
- 43:14this budget went into. Who do they bring in for like
- 43:18key witnesses? They bring in Lee Strobel who
- 43:22wrote the case for Christ. They bring in the detective who
- 43:24wrote Cold Case Christianity. And both of those guys get more
- 43:29screen time than probably any black character in the movie.
- 43:32Yep. The black character counter for
- 43:35this movie was of course Michael Tate, again, the African pastor
- 43:39from the first one, Pastor Jude. Dude the principal of the school
- 43:42is super Lib and black and then the judge is just kind of like
- 43:46angry and black and that's it. Oh yeah, Ernie Hudson's in the
- 43:49movie and there's no big moment with him.
- 43:52I was expecting like something with Ernie Hudson.
- 43:54I don't. Know who Ernie Hudson is.
- 43:56Dog, you got to watch more. Movies.
- 43:57I know. I got it, Ernie.
- 43:57Hudson, have you ever seen Ghostbusters?
- 44:00No, don't pull the gun, do you? Want to be on a pod?
- 44:04Don't pull the gun out. That's Ernie Hudson, OK.
- 44:06He's also a stud, by the way. That's it.
- 44:08What a beat. We can talk from it.
- 44:09Yeah. He's like 60 something and he's.
- 44:11Yeah. Ernie cover Josh's camera cuz he
- 44:13didn't know who he was. Put it up there for a second
- 44:15real quick. Well, Josh, I want you to speak
- 44:17and have Ernie Hudson just up there.
- 44:20Do I need to be God? Lee, I think of Ernie.
- 44:21Hudson What a what a. So that guy's the judge anyway,
- 44:26it's me, Ernie Hudson. That's not at all how he sounds.
- 44:29He sounds Cleveland. He's got a sick deep voice.
- 44:31He's like, y'all will respect me in this courtroom.
- 44:34And everybody's like, oh, OK, OK.
- 44:36Yeah. Anywho, nothing happens.
- 44:39They just they just so thoroughly win it and it and
- 44:42this is a reoccurring thing in these movies like big atheist
- 44:46professor, I'm smart, you're dumb kid can't provide any kind
- 44:49of case. Legit attorneys on the side of
- 44:53the parents because they have a whole team and then she has
- 44:55like. Some rag tag dude, some kids in
- 44:58his. Car and he's they're just
- 45:01morons. They do nothing.
- 45:03That's the whole thing of these movies.
- 45:04Atheists are dumb and stupid. So we're libs and we're awesome.
- 45:08And the government's against us. It's a whole other thing.
- 45:11Hold up. Let's.
- 45:12Let's give it a right? We get they do get mad Alex
- 45:16Jonesy pretty soon and also, you know what I mean?
- 45:19But that's OK. But so the end of the movie is
- 45:22they win. I wrote after that last scene
- 45:26when they win and everyone runs, that's like God it's not.
- 45:28I just wrote WTF just happened? No, no, no, because you have to
- 45:31go into more of that. Nothing in the movie outside of
- 45:34crazy old white man who goes, we're going to prove God is
- 45:36dead. And he says that just to the
- 45:38parents. Nobody else sees it, right?
- 45:40They learn that they've won the court case.
- 45:43All the teenagers who are at the courthouse, which by the way,
- 45:47also in these movies, teenagers care so much, which is just not
- 45:52school. Well, not even not even school.
- 45:55I cannot remember, like me as a teenager, even if there was like
- 45:58a big court case in town, I wouldn't have been at the
- 46:01courthouse. Imagine being 15 and your homie
- 46:04comes up to you like hey bro you want to go to the courthouse?
- 46:07I'd hit him so hard. Shut up.
- 46:08Do not bring the shoulder. Oh, what the And I'm like, do
- 46:11you want to be a dude now or what?
- 46:12Hey bro, you want to be politically?
- 46:14Active in our community and go to the court no.
- 46:16My gosh, Xbox, I want to fight you dude, for real.
- 46:20I'll go to jail. I'll go to jail rather than I'll
- 46:22be there. So anyway, they the kids run out
- 46:24and they just start going. God's not dead.
- 46:27God's not dead. Nobody said he was dead outside
- 46:30of 1 scene that happened in a house between 3 characters.
- 46:34Nobody in the courthouse was like God is dead because that'd
- 46:36be even more insane than it already was.
- 46:40And then that's the right. And then they just come out and
- 46:41everybody's like, yay, by the way, it's a courthouse.
- 46:45There's people just trying to work and there's these kids just
- 46:48screaming and shit. And also so many people, there's
- 46:51people like out on the steps in the streets because this
- 46:54teacher, it's insane, dude. These movies upset me so dearly.
- 46:58And I'm just like, OK, cool. And also watching this, I
- 47:02realized, oh, cool, we got three more.
- 47:04Yep. I finished up the second one and
- 47:06took a very deep breath and recollected myself.
- 47:10So on to the third one. No, no, hold up real quick.
- 47:12You got more? No, not really, because I don't
- 47:15think anything else really happens.
- 47:16Nothing at the end of this one. They still do ask you to text, I
- 47:19think. OK, because pretty soon they go
- 47:20to hashtags. That's so forward thinking.
- 47:23About it. So it's just we're going to take
- 47:25over 20. OK.
- 47:26One thing I want to say about the series that I do appreciate
- 47:29outside of Kevin Sorbo, they don't do the thing where every
- 47:32atheist has to become a Christian.
- 47:34That's true. Her attorney, he's reading like
- 47:37man Myth, Messiah, some book that I'm sure they got a
- 47:40sponsorship for. But there's never anything where
- 47:42he's like, I believe there's never that.
- 47:46A lot of the people who are like just villains who are atheists,
- 47:49they don't just become good Christians.
- 47:51So I, I, I will give them their credit for that.
- 47:54Some people just don't believe. That's OK.
- 47:56That that is fair. Like everyone doesn't converts.
- 47:59Yeah, OK. I will say probably if we're
- 48:02going to rate this one, this was the worst one in my opinion.
- 48:06It's really, it just, it was so pointless.
- 48:09Like it it the whole time. I'm just like, what is going on?
- 48:13Like I, I'm not the smartest guy, but like, I couldn't follow
- 48:16the plots. So I'm going to give this one a
- 48:18a 0.01 out of five stars. Well, I don't even know if I
- 48:23would say this was the worst one, man, but maybe it was the
- 48:27worst one because, like, I'm gonna give it a one.
- 48:31I do think it was worse. So, OK, starting off, I thought
- 48:34it would be better than the first one.
- 48:35Yeah. And it was not.
- 48:37No, it quickly was not because. OK, OK, hold up.
- 48:40One thing I don't want to miss. When did Ben cry in this one?
- 48:43Can you guess? Do you remember any specific
- 48:45scene that was more emotional in this?
- 48:49No. Oh, real quick.
- 48:50We also didn't mention Martin's back in it.
- 48:52We didn't mention multiple people.
- 48:53Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 48:54Because they. They don't.
- 48:55It doesn't. Matter, Martin.
- 48:57The Asian guy's in it, Aisha's in it, right?
- 49:00I don't know if Aisha's in this one.
- 49:02OK, but but cancer Lib in it because because hold up, cancer
- 49:08Lib. Thank you.
- 49:10I'm so glad we remember this. Cancer Lib.
- 49:12Cancer goes away. Yep.
- 49:14And then and this maybe this could have actually been
- 49:16slightly interesting, but she gets barely any time.
- 49:19Cancer Lib. Cancer goes away.
- 49:20And then she kind of has this internal thing of like, well,
- 49:22did I only believe in God because I wanted my cancer to go
- 49:24away? Yeah, which in something else
- 49:27could be a good storyline, sure, could be a good, like, internal
- 49:30struggle. And then she just eventually
- 49:32believes at the end and it's like, great, cool, cool.
- 49:35So you know who else is in it again, Michael?
- 49:37Tay is in it because they've continued to be friends her with
- 49:42the Newsboys and she just calls them to be like.
- 49:44Hey boys. Oh my gosh, what's the news at?
- 49:46The courthouse she calls and Michael answers the phone on
- 49:50stage. He's like, guys, my friend Amy,
- 49:54she's and you know, there's like they cut to kids just the most
- 49:59random generic concert footage of kids, like 8 year olds be
- 50:03like, because also, what are you telling me?
- 50:06Because Michael Tate literally goes, my friend Amy is dealing
- 50:09with a court case where a teacher wasn't allowed to talk
- 50:12about and then they cut the kids.
- 50:14Can we all just say a quick prayer?
- 50:16God bid. And it's like, this wouldn't
- 50:19happen. No.
- 50:20Why would they care? They wouldn't care.
- 50:22Yeah. This one happened for 1000
- 50:24reasons. Back to when did Ben cry?
- 50:26Can you guess any particular? I can't.
- 50:27I can't with this one. That's fine.
- 50:29Whenever the daughter, the girl who like the parents, are suing
- 50:32her, she has a scene at the church where she's talking to I
- 50:36think Martin because part of Martin's character progression
- 50:40is that he's just becoming a Christian, which he already
- 50:44pretty much was at the end of the first one.
- 50:46He's so asexual, dude. Every whatever Martin does,
- 50:51everybody does. Martin's just, sorry, he's just
- 50:54a piece of cardboard with lines like he has.
- 50:56No, he's Asian cardboard. He's just cardboard.
- 51:02Like, he just literally walks around like cardboard, kind of.
- 51:05And just hello, Like, I'm a Christian.
- 51:07Well, he doesn't sound like that.
- 51:08Well, no, he doesn't sound like that.
- 51:10Hello. Hello.
- 51:12I'm not tired. No, he doesn't do that either.
- 51:14But anyway, so he has a scene with her.
- 51:16They're in the church and she tells him about the Bible and
- 51:19she's like, I didn't even know my brother was a Christian.
- 51:22I opened the Bible and all of a sudden in the margins, he's
- 51:24filled out all these notes and it was like, I can genuinely
- 51:27feel myself getting show right now.
- 51:29She was like, you know, I had prayed and asked God for five
- 51:31more minutes with my brother. And in this way, I felt like I
- 51:34got those five more minutes because I got to, like, get to
- 51:37know him. And genuinely, I'm sitting there
- 51:39and Kiana had come out from whatever.
- 51:41And I'm like, with tears of eyes.
- 51:42I'm like these freaking movies, babe.
- 51:45Yeah, for real. And I would be like this if I
- 51:47remember correctly. I don't, well, maybe not, maybe
- 51:51I don't cry in all of them, but definitely those first two.
- 51:53So that would not me. So you would give it a .01. .01
- 51:57out of five, yeah, one out of five.
- 51:59OK. On to the third one.
- 52:00God's not dead. This one was a light in the
- 52:03darkness. Light in the Darkness, and I'm
- 52:04not going to lie, I'm going to spoil it slightly.
- 52:08My favorite one of the series. Yeah, I think so.
- 52:11Yeah, I would. I would.
- 52:12I think I agree with that. Yeah.
- 52:14We'll get into it. Yeah.
- 52:15Yeah. Rotten Tomatoes got a guess for
- 52:17me. Do they all have Rotten
- 52:19Tomatoes? OK, I like it more.
- 52:23I'm going to. 20%, Eleven percent.
- 52:26Shut up dude, this one is better than the first one.
- 52:29Yep. I I.
- 52:30Yeah, I would say. You would say.
- 52:34But you're not a rotten tomato, because I've also already said.
- 52:38So Ben thinks this one's better than the others.
- 52:40So if it. Hasn't been made easier.
- 52:42I actually love these movies. So right off the jump in this
- 52:45one, they just killed off the black guy.
- 52:48Hey, man, yeah, crazy way to start the movie.
- 52:52And also, by the way, all these movies maintain their PG rating.
- 52:56This one, the way that he dies. So a kid throws a brick through
- 53:01a window. That brick hits a gas line.
- 53:05Jude goes in the basement because they were walking by the
- 53:07church. They heard the glass break.
- 53:09They go inside to investigate. Jude heard something down in the
- 53:12basement goes down and just by the way, replace your light
- 53:16bulbs, gang, because he literally turns the thing and I
- 53:19guess it was a light bulb where the glass was cracked.
- 53:22So it flicks and then the gas blows up, blows him into a wall.
- 53:27And then whenever Reverend Dave comes down, he's like bleeding
- 53:31out of the back of his head. And he's literally like, and
- 53:35he's like, it's OK, Jude, I got you.
- 53:36Pulls him across the basement, up the stairs, through the
- 53:40church outside. And he's literally like he says
- 53:45something in Nigerian, whatever he's like on the one in the and
- 53:50he's like, Dave is literally like what he's like.
- 53:54I don't know what that means. We've been friends for years,
- 53:57but I haven't learned which by the way this phrase learn.
- 54:04This phrase that we've uttered back and forth.
- 54:06Oh my God. This phrase that we've said 10
- 54:09billion times, Dave. Goes to some funeral, Dave goes
- 54:13to his funeral and his parents, the dad is like or whatever.
- 54:18And he's like, that's what Jude said to me.
- 54:20And he's like, and the mom is like, it's actually really hard
- 54:23to translate. Is it because you do it
- 54:26immediately? So she's like, and it's funny
- 54:28because she, they do a decent job of her like roughly
- 54:31translating it. So the translation is like
- 54:34always, always God is good and always or like all the time.
- 54:40He is always and Dave is like. Like all the time and all the.
- 54:44Time and I we cannot we cannot make it abundantly clear how
- 54:48much they say this in the 1st 2 movies.
- 54:50Don't. What have I told?
- 54:52You I want to drive the point home.
- 54:53They do it so much in the first. In the first one alone, they do
- 54:57it five times, which is too much to say.
- 55:01God is good all the time, and all the time God is good.
- 55:05So anyway, that happens. Yeah, the movie opens up, They
- 55:07kill one of the black guys. So yeah, right off there.
- 55:11Like we just lost our consistent black guy counter.
- 55:13This movie takes place right after the second one, I think,
- 55:20right? Yeah, yeah, right after.
- 55:22Because the whole reason that, Oh no, they're starting to blend
- 55:26together. The third one takes place right
- 55:29after the second one, after the whole victory at the courthouse.
- 55:32One thing I'll give the second one, actually, and this may bump
- 55:35it up to a 1.5 for me. Is it AR white or R white?
- 55:40ARYI think. David AR White is barely in it
- 55:43because he's like appendix bursts or something.
- 55:46He's in the hospital for a lot of the movie.
- 55:48It's like, thank God. And this is the point in the
- 55:50series where they go. We're gonna make all these about
- 55:52him. And so in this one, the back
- 55:54story is that the church is like in controversy kind of, I guess
- 56:01the college is like, we got to get this church off our campus
- 56:05in Arkansas of super conservative state because.
- 56:08It's in light of the 1st 2 movies so the whole thing is
- 56:11like. Church controversial.
- 56:13The overarching theme is more and more that like America is
- 56:16becoming anti Christian, right? And we're seeing this even in
- 56:20this small town. So, yeah, the whole thing is
- 56:23like, these people are like, oh, the church and we see these and
- 56:27they make one of them a one of the few black kids who like has
- 56:30a speaking role. He's very clearly like a liberal
- 56:33activist who's like, oh, because Dave has a thing, I guess where
- 56:37on on the news where he's like, well, you know, Jesus is the
- 56:40truth and the, the black kid is like the truth.
- 56:43There's no, there ain't just one truth and dah, dah, dah, dah.
- 56:46Oh my gosh. And also, can we talk about the
- 56:49eyebrows on the on the kid that basically killed Jude?
- 56:54Please tell me you noticed that. I literally you saying that just
- 56:57made me be like. Dog, he had half eyebrows.
- 57:00Matt, whenever you get a chance, look up God's not dead, a light
- 57:03in the darkness and look for like you'll notice him.
- 57:06One of the cast members has literally half eyebrows and I
- 57:08feel Brad, if it's a genetic thing and he can't help it.
- 57:12So I apologize if it's that. But anyway, you'll see any who
- 57:16so that kid did it and I don't even really remember why he did
- 57:19it because because he was he he was another atheist that's just
- 57:23like mad at God. And the church has been involved
- 57:25in some controversy, which, just like with the teacher thing, the
- 57:29church didn't do anything. Yeah, the church is just like
- 57:30we're just literally here in the college is, is saying, oh,
- 57:34here's how we'll get them eminent domain because they're
- 57:36technically on our property. So we can like take the church
- 57:40and tear it down and build new dorms or something.
- 57:43And then this is whenever we get the best acted character in the
- 57:46movie, which is. Pastor.
- 57:49Dave. Reverend Dave's brother.
- 57:50Yep, who is great? My Big Fat Greek Wedding?
- 57:53Yep, the main guy from that and he is great.
- 57:56He knocked you out of the park. He's literally he's this movie's
- 57:59best version of Matthew McConaughey.
- 58:01He's literally he's the most relatable.
- 58:03Guy, he's literally just like whatever dude if you.
- 58:05Lined all of these actors up across all 5 movies and you're
- 58:08like, you have to spend time with one of them.
- 58:10It'd be. That guy.
- 58:10Oh my gosh. Well, it'd be that guy.
- 58:12And then very close. Well, for the first little bit,
- 58:16Michael, the first one, yeah. Michael Day in his Sharpie and
- 58:21and so. Yeah.
- 58:22So again, in this movie, not a whole heck of a lot happens.
- 58:26We get a fist fight, which again, the way they kept the PG
- 58:29is interesting, but we get a fist fight between Pastor Dave
- 58:33and basically, I guess what the Dean of the the college.
- 58:37Yeah, the. Dean's pissed because someone
- 58:39threw a brick. Who was that guy?
- 58:40Was married with children the like AL's best friend?
- 58:46For anybody who's married with children, you'll know what I
- 58:48mean. I thought you were saying he
- 58:50was. I just thought he was a little
- 58:51too old to be like married with children that young.
- 58:54No, I mean, there is that ongoing thing.
- 58:56I mean Dean Kane's girlfriend, the reporter was like 10 years
- 58:59younger than him. Anyway, again, not a whole heck
- 59:02of a lot happens. In this movie, they're just in
- 59:04court. They are just in court.
- 59:06Yeah. Yeah.
- 59:07So boring. Just over and over this this
- 59:10this movie started a something that really infuriated me.
- 59:15Is this movie really leaned into, hey, every 30 minutes
- 59:19we're going to pan to a a news reporter, breaking news or like
- 59:23opinion based reporter that's going to explain everything
- 59:26that's happened because the people watching this are too
- 59:29stupid to follow along. I want to give this movie a pro
- 59:32in that from this one onward, they're better shot.
- 59:36So they're more shot like actual like decent, like like a decent
- 59:40series. The 1st 2 movies are like
- 59:44terrible lighting. It's always just bleached out.
- 59:47Everything, every window is open and the sun is always out In
- 59:50this one, sometimes you get some shadows, you get some nighttime
- 59:52shots. There's some genuine like David
- 59:56AR White. I'll give him one thing.
- 59:57He's not the worst actor in these movies.
- 59:59No, he just has way too much screen time.
- 1:00:02And I don't know. And I think you told me he's a
- 1:00:03producer of every single. One, I think.
- 1:00:05So back to the asexual thing. Past Reverend Dave's still
- 1:00:08single. Mad single and this is the only
- 1:00:11one where we get a little bit of him being like, is that a girl?
- 1:00:14Is that a girl? Oh, a girl with a girl.
- 1:00:17Nothing. Nothing came of it.
- 1:00:18Nothing. At all, he probably screwed.
- 1:00:19That there's nothing in the succeeding movies?
- 1:00:21Nope. Nope, she's just like, yeah, the
- 1:00:24the protagonist. I also want to say this way too
- 1:00:27much in these movies and it's in it's in all of them people
- 1:00:31quoting Bible verses like verbatim.
- 1:00:34Oh yeah, like Habakkuk 1/5 and then you'd be like Habakkuk 1/5
- 1:00:38and just. Come on, It's like, who does
- 1:00:41that? Who does it in conversation?
- 1:00:42I guess pastors to each other, but even still, I don't think
- 1:00:45so. We.
- 1:00:46Have to read this verse out loud because we know our audience
- 1:00:48won't look at it to reference. It golly, come on.
- 1:00:51But this one, yeah, actually also this one, I think part of
- 1:00:57the reason why maybe this is my favorite one, it actually kind
- 1:01:00of has an ending where the Christians don't just win
- 1:01:03because, like Josh was talking about, the school does the whole
- 1:01:06eminent domain thing. At the end of the movie, the
- 1:01:10pastor comes to the point of being like, you know what?
- 1:01:13They want it. Yeah, we don't.
- 1:01:14The what does he say? Like the church is not a
- 1:01:16building. Yep, which is part of me.
- 1:01:19And I'm like, yeah, dude, which you make another building, so
- 1:01:23why? Whatever.
- 1:01:24But but his point, you know, it's interesting because it's
- 1:01:28not like, no, you're not going to keep us down.
- 1:01:30You're not going to. He's literally just like, OK,
- 1:01:33you want to do that, go ahead. We'll just go.
- 1:01:35We'll just go make another. Punch in the face and he just
- 1:01:37kind of. He does get punched in the face
- 1:01:38by the Dean, which fair enough, the because they put the Dean's
- 1:01:42name out there to try to like earn some like public opinion
- 1:01:45for the court case. And the Dean, like the next day
- 1:01:48his house gets a brick thrown through the window and he has
- 1:01:50like children and he's like that motherfucker.
- 1:01:53Hey, respect to the Dean. He's like I'm putting belts.
- 1:01:56Stood on this. Immediately, finally.
- 1:01:57Yeah, doesn't even give him a chance to talk.
- 1:01:59Just fish him in the house. Bam.
- 1:02:01Yeah, I wanted to see the brother, like, beat his, Yeah.
- 1:02:04Because he was being so whiny. Everybody's just so whiny.
- 1:02:08Wait, wait, wait. My life is so hard in in the
- 1:02:11whole time. Pastor Jude the Nigerian has to
- 1:02:15just be like, this is the funny, like Americans.
- 1:02:17Just Oh my gosh, you think these are problems?
- 1:02:20I mean, brother, he got his head cut off By who?
- 1:02:25Muslims. Everyone just whine whine whine
- 1:02:28for real. My my.
- 1:02:30You know what? And this movie also has one of
- 1:02:32one argument that I actually kind of was OK with between the
- 1:02:36brothers whenever 'cause, you know, Pastor Smith genuinely has
- 1:02:41a point. He's like, you abandoned me
- 1:02:42whenever mom and dad were sick. And he's like, well, all of you
- 1:02:44kind of abandoned me whenever I was having questions about my
- 1:02:46fate. And Reverend Smith is like, oh,
- 1:02:49your deep questions, like if God is good, why do bad things
- 1:02:52happen? And he's and literally you can
- 1:02:53see on the brother's face, he's like, that's a good question.
- 1:02:58Come on. I still wrestle with that.
- 1:02:59But what's crazy? And you know, for the guys, not
- 1:03:02dead people out there, if you have a good actor, you can it
- 1:03:08plays. It plays.
- 1:03:10Hey, thanks so much for listening to the pod.
- 1:03:12We really appreciate it. Hope you guys are enjoying it.
- 1:03:15And if you are consider going to joshandthegiant.com, checking
- 1:03:19out our merch and potentially becoming a member today, you can
- 1:03:21do so for as little as a dollar a month.
- 1:03:25And now back to the podcast. Yeah, so and another good
- 1:03:29example. Brother doesn't just become a
- 1:03:31Christian at the end. Yep.
- 1:03:32I want to say at the end he is like, he has like his old Bible
- 1:03:35and he starts reading it a bit, but even still, there's never a
- 1:03:38point where he's like, you know what, Dave, you're right, Jesus
- 1:03:42Christ is my Lord and said there's no, there's nothing you
- 1:03:44don't cheesy like that. Never happened after a God's Not
- 1:03:46Dead movie. But.
- 1:03:47Any of them. No human being has ever gone to
- 1:03:50their search engine and typed in God's Not Dead, ending
- 1:03:53explained. Oh.
- 1:03:55No one has ever. It's just like.
- 1:03:57There's no mystery. Because there's a bunch of news
- 1:03:59anchors at the end. If you weren't, if you're too
- 1:04:01dense to somehow not get the point, there's about 50 billion
- 1:04:04news anchors Like, wow. So Pastor or Reverend Dave ended
- 1:04:09up sacrificing the building so that the lawsuit wouldn't go
- 1:04:13through and in a turn gained a following at his church and.
- 1:04:16Also, he forgave the kid who straight up murdered his friend,
- 1:04:20which pissed me off watching the movie.
- 1:04:22Hey, I get it. It was an accident.
- 1:04:25You killed that guy. You did.
- 1:04:26Which I Yeah. So the whole, like, like we said
- 1:04:29earlier, the kid throws the brick through the window.
- 1:04:31It's manslaughter or whatever. It's like whenever you, you
- 1:04:33know, hit somebody in your car, you didn't mean to kill him.
- 1:04:36But they still died. Jude's dead.
- 1:04:38I will say those the way they he died, the odds of that happening
- 1:04:42kind of crazy. Yeah.
- 1:04:43Maybe God was like Jude. I can't let you be like, this
- 1:04:46movie's bad. Maybe.
- 1:04:47Maybe out of here. Maybe Dave misunderstood the
- 1:04:50phrase and he was actually just saying like.
- 1:04:51Thank you. Thank you like.
- 1:04:52Oh my gosh, I get so tired of you white people.
- 1:04:55He's like, he just needs like I wish I could.
- 1:04:59Face I wish I could face real persecution finally.
- 1:05:04This is so terrible. Just killed him off.
- 1:05:07God's like. I'll spare you Pastor Jude and
- 1:05:09that that's the end of the movie.
- 1:05:10Then they just kind of like, hey, we're friends again and I'm
- 1:05:13going to start a new church somehow.
- 1:05:14Even the young Lib black kid protester is like, you know what
- 1:05:19you got to respect, pastor, I was there, which would not
- 1:05:22happen in Romans. No, none of those.
- 1:05:24Like it's not a black or white thing.
- 1:05:25But no, like Lib protester is like you got to respect.
- 1:05:29No, they only do that whenever somebody is like, who's that?
- 1:05:32Who's that guy? I've had so many people DM me to
- 1:05:35be like, can you make a video on James Talarico, that young white
- 1:05:38guy who's like God loves abortion and people are like,
- 1:05:41that's a real Christian. That's how people react to
- 1:05:43people like that. There'd be no super Lib
- 1:05:46protester who'd be like, you got to respect Dave for standing on
- 1:05:49bid. They'd be like that mother and
- 1:05:50you'd be like, OK, can they put that on threads and get 35,000
- 1:05:53likes? I've been getting into it on
- 1:05:56threads a little bit. Threads is the worst.
- 1:05:58One, I don't know why dead Internet.
- 1:06:00You know what else? You know what I will do though?
- 1:06:01I'll comment something and then I don't check the replies.
- 1:06:04I bet if I looked at my notifications right now on
- 1:06:06threads, you would see so many people.
- 1:06:08There was this girl who was like, I don't need your God to
- 1:06:11have like morality. I have my own morality.
- 1:06:13And I was like, wow, you just base your morality off what you
- 1:06:16want. That's terrifying.
- 1:06:17Yikes, so many people, like so many people being like you think
- 1:06:22you need gonna be a good person. I'm like I I turn off phone.
- 1:06:25Yeah, hey, have fun talking to nobody because I'm not
- 1:06:28responding. Yep.
- 1:06:29Nice. Anywho, so that's Guy's Not Dead
- 1:06:313. Yep, the black people counter.
- 1:06:33There was a news anchor at the beginning that was black that
- 1:06:35had a speaking role. Very brief.
- 1:06:37Pastor Jude who they killed off. Black dude that's.
- 1:06:42Liberal atheist, by the way. There's a quick.
- 1:06:44There's a quick college party. The worst, like.
- 1:06:48Like generic rap music. That's what I wrote down.
- 1:06:51I wrote down. And they all have like generic
- 1:06:55red solo. Kind.
- 1:06:55It was literally I I wrote down rap music at a party.
- 1:06:59Bad things. Oh weird.
- 1:07:02Drinking alcohol. Yeah, that is part of it.
- 1:07:04The kid that threw the brick was like a little bit drunk.
- 1:07:07Yeah, Yeah. You know, I don't think I cried
- 1:07:09during this one. Thank God.
- 1:07:11Yeah, 'cause there was, even though this is my favorite one.
- 1:07:13I'll give this 1A for ranking it 2.55 out of five.
- 1:07:18I'm going to give it because I'm also trying to rate it in
- 1:07:21comparison to everything else. Yeah, I'll give it a three now.
- 1:07:26That is too generous. I'll be honest.
- 1:07:28That's very good. But.
- 1:07:29Like it's like on the spectrum of God's not dead, right?
- 1:07:32Right. Which even on their own
- 1:07:34spectrum, not good. Not good.
- 1:07:36You could put an hour long video of grass growing with fart
- 1:07:40noises kind of playing over the back and I would be like this is
- 1:07:44better than a lot of stuff I've watched this last week.
- 1:07:46Real spill. You could my, my parents
- 1:07:48sometimes will put on a live stream of like a bird feeder or
- 1:07:52like, or like they'll these things that seem like kind of
- 1:07:55fake, but I know they're real videos, but I think they're just
- 1:07:56staged. But it's like a bunch of like
- 1:07:58nuts and berries and stuff on like a tree stump and you just
- 1:08:01see like squirrels and other little rodents and then birds
- 1:08:04showing up. I'd watch that and I'd be way
- 1:08:06more fulfilled in life. I'd be like, wow, this is
- 1:08:08beautiful. Isn't God good?
- 1:08:10Isn't God all the time? All the.
- 1:08:13Time. Anyways, all right, on to the
- 1:08:174th 1. Please God's not dead 4 What was
- 1:08:19the name for this one? We the people.
- 1:08:22This is whenever it gets, well, the third one, kind of two, but
- 1:08:25this one, it gets real political.
- 1:08:28Real political. Rotten Tomatoes Got a guess?
- 1:08:34I mean 7. 0 There was not one there.
- 1:08:40There weren't even enough. People did not even care enough.
- 1:08:43Critics didn't to review like. Did you get audience scores
- 1:08:46though? I didn't write them down, I just
- 1:08:48figured it was. Because I bet they were real
- 1:08:50high. It's just my grandma making
- 1:08:53more. Account This is the best
- 1:08:54question movie I've ever seen. God's Not Dead exclamation
- 1:08:57points. Yeah, zero.
- 1:08:59There was there was not one actual critic that had something
- 1:09:01good to say about this movie. Good And God's Not Dead 4 The
- 1:09:06first thing I wrote down. Of course they're freaking
- 1:09:10homeschooled. One of the things I think I
- 1:09:12mentioned, either off camera or on camera, one thing I do
- 1:09:15appreciate about this universe is the continuity.
- 1:09:17Yes, yeah. Yeah, either in the second or
- 1:09:19third movie, Pastor Dave refuses.
- 1:09:22It's in the second movie. He refuses to fill out a thing
- 1:09:25or like turn in the transcripts of all of his sermons over the
- 1:09:28last like 3 months because I guess it was it's like a mandate
- 1:09:33now by the law or like the which?
- 1:09:35The movie came out like after Texas, and I feel like Texas is
- 1:09:41just an example. Literally passed a law that was
- 1:09:44like, we're never going to require pastors to submit their
- 1:09:48sermon notes. So it's like we're painting this
- 1:09:50universe of like, look at what the US government's doing.
- 1:09:53And then it realized the government's like, hey, we're
- 1:09:56not going to do this. Correct.
- 1:09:59So the only thing I wanted to say was Dave does that.
- 1:10:01He doesn't fill it in. And the guy, it's funny, 'cause
- 1:10:04like, he walks in and the guy is such a slub.
- 1:10:07He's like, he's like eating so much food.
- 1:10:10And he's like, oh, you just put your shopper over there and he's
- 1:10:13like, OK, well, here it is, 'cause it's like some letter
- 1:10:16word that he filled out that was like, respectfully, no, Yeah.
- 1:10:18And the guy's like, that's it. That's all he summons for the
- 1:10:21last three or four months. He's like Philly cheese.
- 1:10:23I'm not doing it. And this fool like stands up and
- 1:10:25he's like, you want me to put the hammer down?
- 1:10:28Like literally something to that degree.
- 1:10:30He's like you. Really want to test me the
- 1:10:32least. And Dave is like, OK, I'm going
- 1:10:35to leave and he gets arrested. He gets arrested at the
- 1:10:38beginning, but that's at the beginning of the third one.
- 1:10:40So and that actually, that actually provides a lot more
- 1:10:43context. What we're talking about for
- 1:10:44controversy. That's part of the controversy
- 1:10:46is that he got arrested, which I liked that.
- 1:10:48I think that's another reason why I kind of like the third
- 1:10:50one. I was like, OK, there's actually
- 1:10:52a consequence for him just being like, I'm not going to do what
- 1:10:54the law tells me. And then he gets arrested
- 1:10:57because it doesn't matter anyway.
- 1:10:59So that carries into the 4th 1. And I only wanted to bring that
- 1:11:01up because in the fourth one, they reference a bunch of stuff
- 1:11:05from the other ones. And part of it is like this
- 1:11:06whole thing of like, persecution, yeah, persecution,
- 1:11:09but go ahead, persecuted. What is this movie about?
- 1:11:12So. God's Not Dead 4 We the People
- 1:11:14is about we're back at school. This time it's a homeschool
- 1:11:18Co-op that's run through Reverend Dave's church.
- 1:11:23We're basically like kids are just being homeschooled and he
- 1:11:25kind of pulls up sometimes and teaches kids about the Bible.
- 1:11:28Yes, English. And then someone from the big
- 1:11:32mean state government of Arkansas shows up some.
- 1:11:35Broad. Some broad shows up and it's
- 1:11:38like, not up to standards, like you got to put your kids in
- 1:11:42public school or else you're going to pay a fine and you're
- 1:11:45going to go to jail and your kids are going to die and you're
- 1:11:47going to get cancer. And that's just.
- 1:11:50We're going to hire the same person we hired to kill Jeffrey
- 1:11:51Epstein, and then we're going to kill your kids.
- 1:11:53Everyone's going to come die and everything you love is going to
- 1:11:55be. So it's this whole like,
- 1:11:57homeschool is a liberty and now this is like, whatever.
- 1:12:01And there was a moment where the woman was freaking out and she
- 1:12:06said something to a lady. She's like, I can't put my kids
- 1:12:09in public school. I forget her son's name.
- 1:12:11It's all say Jeffrey, since you just said Jeffrey Epstein.
- 1:12:14She's like, if I put little Jeffrey in a in a public school,
- 1:12:18they're going to identify that he's special needs and like put
- 1:12:22him in a specific class or whatever.
- 1:12:23And I was like, it sounds like your kid might be super autistic
- 1:12:28and you're not doing anything about.
- 1:12:29It it's so funny and this is not me making fun of people, but if
- 1:12:32they were like they're going to think he's whatever they cut you
- 1:12:34and Jeffrey were like, then she's like, there's nothing
- 1:12:39wrong with Jeffrey. She's like a she's like a
- 1:12:42terrible mom, which isn't the case.
- 1:12:44The kid is the kids just sitting there.
- 1:12:47And also, Josh, come on, man. He's like fighting for air.
- 1:12:55He's clear, he's fine. He's just clearly soiled
- 1:12:57himself. Help.
- 1:13:01Help help. Help.
- 1:13:03He's totally normal. She.
- 1:13:06Holds up a test score from one of his home schooled tests.
- 1:13:09He gets one hundreds on everything.
- 1:13:10It's not even filled in. It's just scribbles.
- 1:13:12Look at this. It's smeared with his own feces.
- 1:13:15She's like, I don't know why I don't want to be see, that's
- 1:13:19what I'm saying if more I don't know, these movies would be
- 1:13:22better if there's a little bit more nuance and there was
- 1:13:24actually some some genuinely crazy Christians.
- 1:13:26That's all I would say. Anywho she's.
- 1:13:28Like she's like they'll say special needs and it's like he
- 1:13:32might be special needs. They're OK.
- 1:13:35Yeah, seriously. But also, Jeffrey is like, low
- 1:13:38key clinically depressed. Yeah.
- 1:13:39Because he's got something going on.
- 1:13:41Well, isn't it in this one where that woman's husband.
- 1:13:45Because the whole time, Jeffrey, whenever she would go anywhere,
- 1:13:47he'd be like, are you going to come back?
- 1:13:49Because the dad. Dad died, Yeah.
- 1:13:50He was a vet or not well. Not a veteran, he was an Air
- 1:13:56Force. Air Force vet.
- 1:13:58He was like a serviceman, and he died in service.
- 1:14:00Yeah, but you thought he was a veterinarian.
- 1:14:02I did. I thought a horse kicked him in
- 1:14:03the head. It'd be a much funnier scene,
- 1:14:06but I didn't cry during this movie.
- 1:14:08But that. But part, there was a part where
- 1:14:10they brought that up, and that made me emotional.
- 1:14:11Yeah. Because it's like, no, his dad's
- 1:14:14dead, blah blah blah. Yeah.
- 1:14:17By the way, do you see how the enthusiasm has died off because
- 1:14:20you're watching these movies and all it is now is court cases,
- 1:14:24court case, court case paying to.
- 1:14:27A news anchor saying something to explain everything that just
- 1:14:29happened to the court case. Then back to past Reverend Dave
- 1:14:32just being like. Oh, what am I?
- 1:14:34Josh came back in the last one. We didn't even bring that.
- 1:14:36Up. Oh yeah, Josh came back.
- 1:14:36Josh came. Back you found it.
- 1:14:37And this is how we know there's been a decent amount of time
- 1:14:39that's passed because in the first one, Josh is a freshman
- 1:14:42and at this time he has, he didn't graduate college.
- 1:14:45He dropped out. He dropped out because he wanted
- 1:14:46to. Do like pastoral stuff.
- 1:14:48Nobody cared. It was just, Oh my.
- 1:14:50God, also, and like, like I said, talking about the first
- 1:14:53one, anytime he's not giving like a big speech, Josh kind of
- 1:14:56needs to shut up. He sucks because he's, he's
- 1:14:58just, he's just like, yeah, so that's what's going on.
- 1:15:02There was also a scene in the 4th 1 where the lady, I can't
- 1:15:05remember, she was testifying, but she's like, you know,
- 1:15:09Christians believe in science. People are acting like we're.
- 1:15:11Flat, that's right at the end it's so.
- 1:15:14And she says that and I was like, I'm not going to lie, I
- 1:15:17see a lot of flat earthers that are Christian on social.
- 1:15:20People got crosses in their BIOS and they're like, there's a
- 1:15:23Dome, there's an ice wall and you're like.
- 1:15:26I just, I kind of wrote like, I don't know, I was just kind of
- 1:15:28raising my hand like male. We we have a lot of people on
- 1:15:32our team that say that this. Movie.
- 1:15:33We also get introduced to a black guy who got fired from
- 1:15:36Grey's Anatomy. That guy who is a congressman,
- 1:15:39he, he kind of, he kind of. Acted his butt off a little.
- 1:15:41Bit Oh no, he was the best he was the best in this one and the
- 1:15:44next one he was crushing and he like again, he actually has
- 1:15:47charisma, which is interesting. Him and Dave meet up, I think
- 1:15:50it's in this one. They meet up at a restaurant or
- 1:15:52a bar and he, yeah, he's actually like charming and.
- 1:15:55He's like Idris Elba if he was Republican, kind of.
- 1:15:58So OK, I'm just gonna let that one go.
- 1:16:01I mean we, we have our interview with Idris, I just don't
- 1:16:03remember if. He's well, he got upset because
- 1:16:05you kept calling him. Idris the whole time.
- 1:16:06Was it Idris? How would you say it?
- 1:16:09Idris Elba. You say Idris or Idris?
- 1:16:12Oh, is it Idris? Idris I say Idris E, but it's.
- 1:16:15It's an I at the beginning. You see how that I actually say
- 1:16:18it like that every time, even though he's British.
- 1:16:20Really. Actually Idris Elba.
- 1:16:22Idris Elba. Idris.
- 1:16:23Sorry, Idris. Idris.
- 1:16:25Yeah, we'll have to get him back for another pod, but you can
- 1:16:28listen to that pod over on the website, Josh on thegiant.com.
- 1:16:30Become a member. The one with the little of the
- 1:16:31dollar. Yeah, pay annually and you'll
- 1:16:33pay less than a dollar a month. That's what are you broke?
- 1:16:37What are you poor? In this economy.
- 1:16:38Oh my gosh, dude. Please.
- 1:16:40Get out of here money. Please.
- 1:16:43Give us your money computer. Make this guy have a dollar a
- 1:16:46month to give to us, a couple of a couple of broke whites who
- 1:16:48just want to make money on the Internet.
- 1:16:50Computer Infinite joy. Infinite joy for whoever just
- 1:16:52became a member on our website. Computer erase all the gay
- 1:16:54thoughts in their mind. It.
- 1:16:56Erase all the gay thoughts in their mind.
- 1:16:58Erase all the gay thoughts in their mind.
- 1:17:00You're. Crushing today.
- 1:17:01Thanks bro Crushing appreciate it feel.
- 1:17:04Like, I'm just, I'm sorry. I feel like I've been going off
- 1:17:08of it. No, you're literally.
- 1:17:09So the 4th one. Here's the other thing that
- 1:17:11sucks, and I praise the series for the the continuity, but
- 1:17:15literally the 4th 1 bleeds directly into the fifth one.
- 1:17:18Yeah, so they feel like, and even the third one, it feels
- 1:17:21like a big movie. Yes, but it's a big movie where
- 1:17:24nothing happens. Nothing.
- 1:17:27This movie, the 4th 1 sucks so hard and they kind of
- 1:17:30retroactively make it work a little bit in the fifth one.
- 1:17:33I'll give them that. But when at the end, keep in
- 1:17:36mind the the what is it the subtitle or whatever this movie
- 1:17:39is God's not dead, we the people.
- 1:17:42At the end of the movie, Pastor Dave is talking about all this
- 1:17:48stuff and there's a whole moment earlier on in the movie where
- 1:17:50he's talking to all these other homeschoolers who which I don't
- 1:17:53know if this is true, 75% of people who homeschool their
- 1:17:56kids, I don't know if they were saying they aren't religious or
- 1:17:59they just don't do it for religious reasons.
- 1:18:01I don't believe that. I don't know, I don't believe
- 1:18:03that, but maybe it's true. And that was an interesting
- 1:18:05statistic. But there's an Asian woman, by
- 1:18:07the way, that scene, they just get like all the minorities.
- 1:18:10Yep. They're like, let's get them
- 1:18:11all. And everybody will say a couple
- 1:18:13words, but an Asian woman is like, I'm the people, you're the
- 1:18:18people, We're the people. And Dave literally goes on this
- 1:18:22whole tangent and he's like winning.
- 1:18:25Oh, he's like, oh, you mother and whatever.
- 1:18:26And then he just looks in the camera and he's like, we, we the
- 1:18:30people. Boom, God's not dead.
- 1:18:33And that's the end of the movie. I wrote down for that scene
- 1:18:36empowering stand that my grandma would eat up.
- 1:18:39Oh, this would be like this is what in her own house?
- 1:18:45The things in her. Yes.
- 1:18:49Get them, Dave, get them. Your grandma liked the Marlboro.
- 1:18:53I love these movies. Line up the next one.
- 1:18:56Let's go. I have an aunt who won, who won
- 1:18:59years ago. We went out there for like a
- 1:19:02Christmas and we met up at, like a Cracker Barrel or something.
- 1:19:04Because they're trashy whites. I'm a trashy white.
- 1:19:06OK. Cracker Barrel's guess.
- 1:19:07Well, no, no, not Cracker Barrel.
- 1:19:09We met up at somewhere else. It wasn't a Cracker Barrel.
- 1:19:11Even better. No, I've never been to a Waffle
- 1:19:13House. We've talked about we're going
- 1:19:15to do, we're going to do a video about it.
- 1:19:17We're going to do a video where we all go to Waffle House.
- 1:19:19Anyway, Long story short, my aunt pulls up.
- 1:19:21My aunt's always been a bit of a character whenever I was a kid.
- 1:19:23One time she she flicked out a cigarette out of my ear and I
- 1:19:28don't think she would. Did your aunt work at Waffle
- 1:19:31House? No, she didn't.
- 1:19:32But maybe smoking cigarette? She pulls up, she pulls up.
- 1:19:35She's older, she's got a gas tank and we're all eating or
- 1:19:39whatever. She goes outside.
- 1:19:40I went outside with my dad and she's just smoking cigs.
- 1:19:44Tube in her nose. Gas tank right here was pretty
- 1:19:47good. That's so awesome.
- 1:19:48Imagine like having caring that little about the potential
- 1:19:52dangers of life. Like it's like, hey, you know
- 1:19:55what? You have a bomb at this point.
- 1:19:56You have a bomb you. Also have a bomb.
- 1:19:58I should have flicked my cigarette at her.
- 1:20:00I wasn't smoking. Yeah.
- 1:20:02Just get a cigarette. Can I have a cigarette?
- 1:20:03Hey can I have one of those just RIP the top?
- 1:20:05Like use whole tray, RIP the top of her thing, throw the letter
- 1:20:08in there, she blows up on the spot.
- 1:20:10But you would blow up too, see? No, not in my movie.
- 1:20:13I'm the main character in the God's Not Dead movie.
- 1:20:15God's not dead, but great. See, that's the other thing if
- 1:20:20the movie just got crazy like that anyway.
- 1:20:24This one sucks, the last two. Sucks.
- 1:20:26Dude, they're in court. The whole.
- 1:20:28Time. Oh my gosh.
- 1:20:29And it's so cheap. Yep.
- 1:20:31What can you look up? What's the budget of the 4th 1?
- 1:20:35What? It went down.
- 1:20:37It went down. Okay, clearly 1.5 million.
- 1:20:39Yeah. So they do a whole thing in the
- 1:20:414th 1:00 where they're supposedly meeting up with
- 1:20:42Congress. Yeah well, it's supposed to be
- 1:20:44like a Supreme Court almost right?
- 1:20:46Or yeah. It's like a hearing.
- 1:20:48Something on C-SPAN like a town hall, it's so clearly there's no
- 1:20:54budget. They just put together some
- 1:20:56chairs. The courtroom scenes from like
- 1:20:58the second and third one look better.
- 1:21:00I think the third one, now that I'm thinking about it, the third
- 1:21:02one I think was the best shot because there's, there's more
- 1:21:05contrast or better, which is wild to me that it's whatever
- 1:21:11that it's rated lower. I think in this one especially,
- 1:21:15and they were, there were the seeds of it.
- 1:21:16And this one, in the fourth one they were, or in the fifth one,
- 1:21:18they were like, we're getting the conservatives.
- 1:21:21So are we on to the fifth one? They're the same movie, the 4th
- 1:21:24and the OK. What would you rate?
- 1:21:26But they're not. OK, what would I rate the 4th
- 1:21:28one? Yeah, .05 out of five.
- 1:21:31I'm going with what you shoot. Because it's somehow better than
- 1:21:35the second one in my opinion. I don't.
- 1:21:39Because it's got Christian Idris Elba.
- 1:21:41Who was the best actor in the second one?
- 1:21:42Did we go over that? No, but guess who's also in the
- 1:21:454th 1? Michael Tate.
- 1:21:47Still there, dude. Michael Tate still there?
- 1:21:50Yeah. Hanging out.
- 1:21:51He's a Republican. Probably.
- 1:21:53Probably. Yeah.
- 1:21:55I guess I would give the. I'd give the 11 guess these last
- 1:21:59two I blitzed through them because I was like this is thank
- 1:22:02God, and I think I said that we've been recording for 4 1/2
- 1:22:04hours. So I said earlier they really
- 1:22:07got their act together and made the last three like 90 ish
- 1:22:09minutes. Thank God.
- 1:22:12If all of these movies were two hours, I would have texted you
- 1:22:14earlier this week and then like, we're done.
- 1:22:15Come up with something else. We're.
- 1:22:16Quitting the pod. By the way, next time we do
- 1:22:18this, and I think it'll probably just be the Mormon thing, Yeah,
- 1:22:21one movie, one movie. This is a bad idea.
- 1:22:23Yeah, because I did 5. What's the name of God?
- 1:22:25Also, real quick, Josh wanted this to be our first podcast.
- 1:22:27We did, I did. If we had done this for the
- 1:22:30first one, we wouldn't have even this many podcasts.
- 1:22:33I would've been like, we're doing something else.
- 1:22:35Big dog, we're doing it. This is it for us.
- 1:22:37Rotten Tomatoes. Take a swing.
- 1:22:39I'm going to say this one also zero.
- 1:22:40Zero yeah Yep 1st 5 seconds of the movie COVID jab Yep.
- 1:22:46Just not like literally news whatever world bad everything
- 1:22:51going to hell. COVID jab.
- 1:22:52COVID jab. Yep.
- 1:22:54Snuck it in there. I straight up don't know if we
- 1:22:56can even if it's still low key against YouTube for us to say
- 1:22:59COVID. COVID.
- 1:23:03J you can spell, but yeah, for sure.
- 1:23:06No, but it's just like a quick little thing.
- 1:23:08The whole movie doesn't become about that.
- 1:23:10But the whole thing is like, literally these last two movies
- 1:23:13are like, the government is trying to control you.
- 1:23:14Liberals. Bad liberals.
- 1:23:15Bad, which I know there will be people who are watching this who
- 1:23:17are like, well, they are. And hey, I'm right there with
- 1:23:20you. I don't like the government.
- 1:23:21There was a while, there was a while where I genuinely was
- 1:23:23like, I think I'm gonna like, I want to be an anarchist.
- 1:23:26Like, not even like, yeah, bring it down.
- 1:23:28But part of me was like, OK, what if we did?
- 1:23:30What if we did? What if we did?
- 1:23:31I mean, I don't want to make this whole thing political, but
- 1:23:34what if we burn this mother down?
- 1:23:37One thing I noticed about this movie, the women all of a sudden
- 1:23:41had a lot more work done like the the actresses that they
- 1:23:44chose. All of a sudden it was like
- 1:23:47which I'm a I'm a be straight up, no shame, no shame, lip
- 1:23:52filler, whatever, like the jaw surgery, but all of a.
- 1:23:54Sudden Nina had work done in the first one.
- 1:23:57Nina couldn't really close her mouth.
- 1:24:00Legit. Mina was like, yeah, well, that
- 1:24:02was part of the reason why she, like, couldn't act.
- 1:24:04She couldn't like, show any emotion because she was like
- 1:24:08Kevin Schwabeau, what are you even doing?
- 1:24:10What? Are you doing?
- 1:24:11You're you're Christian. You're you're, you're restarted.
- 1:24:15You're so restarted as a Christian and she's like spam
- 1:24:18stop it. By the way, going way back,
- 1:24:20whenever I said Mina sucks, she just ruins the dinner.
- 1:24:24She did make the dinner. All the time.
- 1:24:25She well, not, but not even like the whole like, you know what's
- 1:24:28so mean to me? They were forget all this for
- 1:24:30sure, for sure poison them straight up.
- 1:24:32But like, she she like messes up the wine, she messes up the
- 1:24:35dinner. Back to the fifth one.
- 1:24:36Back to the fifth one. Yes.
- 1:24:37I mean, these these last two movies are straight.
- 1:24:41I don't know how else to say it. Conservative corn.
- 1:24:43Well. Here's how let let's go ahead
- 1:24:45and tell you what happens in this one.
- 1:24:47So Reverend Dave, right on the tail of the fourth one,
- 1:24:51everyone's like, oh, hey, this, this reverend's got to the
- 1:24:54preachers got, you know, a lot of moxie for political whatever.
- 1:24:57Black guy from Grey's Anatomy who got fired for being a rude
- 1:25:00guy. In Grey's Anatomy.
- 1:25:01Loved the speech that Dave gave at the end of the fourth movie.
- 1:25:04And he goes, Let's make that guy a politician.
- 1:25:07Yep. And so he's against his will.
- 1:25:09And he's running against the snake from the second movie.
- 1:25:13That said, we're going to finally prove that God's finally
- 1:25:17dead or whatever now. He's a politician.
- 1:25:20He's worked his way up the chain from being like an attorney to
- 1:25:23being or whatever. And now they're both Are they
- 1:25:25running for governor? I think just like Senate.
- 1:25:27Oh, OK, just like Congress, whatever.
- 1:25:30So Dave gets thrown into the race because conveniently the
- 1:25:32Republican incumbent dies and they're like, oh, we got to find
- 1:25:37someone. Our best option is this Reverend
- 1:25:39that. Six weeks out.
- 1:25:40Minutes. Yeah.
- 1:25:41And so they're like, oh, boy, we're going to call in the
- 1:25:44A-Team. And it's this woman that has
- 1:25:47apparently had a failed career as like, a political manager,
- 1:25:49this white woman like, hey, we know you're hanging with your
- 1:25:52son right now. Series loves single moms, by the
- 1:25:54way. She's a single mom.
- 1:25:56Where's your husband? She's a single mom.
- 1:25:58Like, where's her husbands? Like, come on.
- 1:26:00Well, you know, you know the thing of this one.
- 1:26:02Well, I know that she's a single one, but I'm just saying like
- 1:26:04where the husband's at. Like why are we?
- 1:26:05Why can't we have husbands that are?
- 1:26:06No, for real with not being, but even in this movie, well, her
- 1:26:09husband, I'm not her husband. The father of the child is
- 1:26:12technically in the movie, he's the assistant of the devil.
- 1:26:15But then there's like the crackhead or whatever she was
- 1:26:18supposed to be. She's a single mom, The single
- 1:26:21mom from the last one whose husband got kicked in the head
- 1:26:25by a horse or whatever he did. I thought for a second, in this
- 1:26:27one, yeah, it's this one that Mina, not Mina, Aisha gets hit
- 1:26:32in her car, right? Yeah.
- 1:26:34I thought for a second her and Martin were going to, like, have
- 1:26:37a thing. I was like.
- 1:26:38Hey, it's either in the 4th or the 5th. 1:00 because there's
- 1:26:41also a really. Did I cry during that?
- 1:26:45There is a genuinely moving thing.
- 1:26:47With her dad. With her dad and the kid.
- 1:26:49Oh, it's in the 4th 1:00 because it's with the autistic kid and
- 1:26:53who is just who just like wanders off alone.
- 1:26:57Yeah. He's like, there was part of me
- 1:26:59that was like, is this supposed to be God?
- 1:27:03Is God supposed to be like just manifesting in some weird way?
- 1:27:06But no, it's the autistic kid and he just walks up to him and
- 1:27:09he's like, just gives him a hug. There's also a weird thing where
- 1:27:12where Aisha's dad is like, I think in a better movie, he'd be
- 1:27:17yelling at a crucified Christ like an image of the crucifixion
- 1:27:22because he's like, you're supposed to be so good and
- 1:27:24you're supposed to do and then the camera cuts and it's almost
- 1:27:26like a comedy get it's an empty cross.
- 1:27:29So he's just talking to a cross. They couldn't find.
- 1:27:32They couldn't. No, no.
- 1:27:33Catholic Church was like, or just whatever high church,
- 1:27:36whatever was like, you're not filming it.
- 1:27:38Yeah. So they found this like they had
- 1:27:39to like put together this crummy altar with like with like wood.
- 1:27:43The cross is made out of wood from like a, a, a cheap chair.
- 1:27:48That's how bad it is. And he's like, you're supposed
- 1:27:50to be all good. And my daughter is in a it's in
- 1:27:54a bed right now, which by the way, Mina should have died.
- 1:27:57She should have died. She gets T boned by an 18
- 1:27:59Wheeler. The next time we see her, she
- 1:28:00has a couple of cuts. She's like PP.
- 1:28:04Where am I? Papa, are you a Christian?
- 1:28:07Yet like fun and help. Papa, I see Jesus.
- 1:28:10I go to heaven. Oh no, that would have been so
- 1:28:14funny. In her last moments, Aisha had
- 1:28:18poor theology. So she's like, she's like Jesus
- 1:28:21and the Father are the yeah, she's the same person.
- 1:28:25She just goes straight to hell. Father, I'm going to.
- 1:28:29I'm dead. I.
- 1:28:30Saw the devil. I'm dying to go see Art.
- 1:28:33Art. What is Armenian God?
- 1:28:35In which they're all completely separate?
- 1:28:37Yeah. I'm a polytheist, actually.
- 1:28:41Oh no, my daughter. And then she comes back to life.
- 1:28:45Yeah, she does. Papa, I was in hell.
- 1:28:47You know who was there? Muhammad.
- 1:28:50And he's like, baby, don't say that.
- 1:28:53And that's that's the yeah, icon's not dead.
- 1:28:56He's surely alive. Yeah.
- 1:29:01So yeah, it's just politically running against each other.
- 1:29:05Super Republican. So like, it's not even like I
- 1:29:09wrote in this one again, WTF is going on?
- 1:29:11Because it's not even like there's no mentions of God
- 1:29:14really. It's just like, yeah, it kind of
- 1:29:16like. There's no mentions of God, but
- 1:29:17also there's just mentions of him talking about God too much.
- 1:29:20Yeah. Which it's like it's.
- 1:29:22Literally. Who do you think he is?
- 1:29:25He's a reverend who the only reason you got him was for being
- 1:29:28mad Christian. And then the woman you bring in
- 1:29:32is like, talk about God less. It's like, do you even know your
- 1:29:34base? Who do you want?
- 1:29:36Right? What are we doing?
- 1:29:37And then again, actually charming guy, the black guy
- 1:29:40comes in and he has this whole speech about like so many
- 1:29:42millions of Christians don't even vote and blah, blah.
- 1:29:45And I'm like, you think Dave is the guy who's going to reignite
- 1:29:47those people? Well, I mean, but it's like he's
- 1:29:49saying that and kind of looks at the camera like.
- 1:29:54Yeah. Do you like these libs?
- 1:29:56That's what I thought. That's.
- 1:29:57Why you should vote for Donald Trump?
- 1:29:58Because I think this came out right before.
- 1:29:59You should. You should yell at women on set
- 1:30:01so that they fire you. That's what he did on Grey's
- 1:30:04Anatomy. Dave's Anatomy.
- 1:30:06Dave. 'S new spin off that's.
- 1:30:11That's the porno version of Gaza Dead.
- 1:30:12It's Dave's anatomy. Look, I'm sorry.
- 1:30:17I. Was going to say I just pictured
- 1:30:18like a spin off series where somehow someone sees a clip of
- 1:30:21him talking about like Medicare and health insurance as a
- 1:30:24politician and they're like our doctor just died dude his.
- 1:30:28Pastor even better, he does a faith healing and then all of a
- 1:30:31sudden he cut to 30 minutes later, he's like doing an open
- 1:30:33heart surgery. He's like she's a big light from
- 1:30:37Jesus and then God comes from behind him and grabs his hands,
- 1:30:41botches the surgery. It's completely.
- 1:30:43I wanted to see him, bring him up.
- 1:30:45Yeah, yeah. Bring him up.
- 1:30:46Yeah. So stab it.
- 1:30:47Stab it. He's like, I don't know about
- 1:30:49that, actually. Stab the whole Yeah, all right,
- 1:30:51go. It's just political over and
- 1:30:54over and they're just debating. And then once his face comes
- 1:30:58back in, the bad businessman from the.
- 1:30:59First one, Dean Kane. Dean Kane comes back and he
- 1:31:02actually funds Dave's like what would it be campaign but then
- 1:31:07also kind of screws him later on.
- 1:31:09Because he takes the bait for this fake.
- 1:31:12That's so clearly fake, which by the way, they're not doing like
- 1:31:15it's not CIA levels of stuff, but his, his manager meets with
- 1:31:20this girl in like a laundromat and she's got like her hood up
- 1:31:24and she's like, I found some dirt on the guy who played the
- 1:31:26devil and Reaper. And but I'm not even going to
- 1:31:29lie to you. It kind of came out of nowhere.
- 1:31:31And I think it's really sketchy. And the other girl's like, shut
- 1:31:34up, you dumb. I'm going to go, I'm going to
- 1:31:38go. I'm going to ruin this guy.
- 1:31:42I'm not going to listen to you clearly telling me this isn't.
- 1:31:46Good. I'm telling you his campaign
- 1:31:49paid me to to bring this to you. I'm confessing that shut.
- 1:31:52Up gosh, I don't care. Shut up.
- 1:31:54I want to win. You're not going to win the
- 1:31:56like, this will be bad for you, whatever.
- 1:31:58So she goes and does it, but she doesn't do it, Which I thought
- 1:32:01that was the thing. I was like, oh, she just went
- 1:32:03and did it behind Dave's back. Solid twist that Dean Cain did
- 1:32:06it, but sure. Yeah.
- 1:32:09But here's the thing. Also major spoiler for the for
- 1:32:11the movie they win again. Whoa.
- 1:32:14The only one where they kind of didn't win was the third one.
- 1:32:16The best 1, he just wins. He becomes governor or Senate or
- 1:32:21whatever, which also made me think.
- 1:32:24So this whole time he's focused. Who's pastoring the church has
- 1:32:27just been Martin. Hello.
- 1:32:31Today we're talking about Jesus, which that's how it ends, right?
- 1:32:35Isn't that part of it? Yeah.
- 1:32:36Martin's doing like a sermon. Yep.
- 1:32:37And he opens like the come on, dude, I want to go to a Korean
- 1:32:43church. So.
- 1:32:43Oh my gosh, let me say Korean Jesus.
- 1:32:47Yeah. And then like, he opens the
- 1:32:49women's shelter again that somehow like, devil guy like
- 1:32:54took funding away from. Yeah, he's like, I'll give it
- 1:32:56all back. And it's like, what power do you
- 1:32:58have? How did you do that?
- 1:32:59You you're running for this. Also, this is state level
- 1:33:03politics you took. There's probably a decent bit of
- 1:33:05money or like bad stuff in that, but still.
- 1:33:08You took money away from like a single mom shelter to like.
- 1:33:10Also, I just want to say this. I think the government's bad.
- 1:33:13I think the government doesn't like Christianity.
- 1:33:15I think all that stuff. You know what, though?
- 1:33:17Also these movies. Suck these movies.
- 1:33:19Suck these. Movies are really bad.
- 1:33:20These movies you could potentially like construe or or
- 1:33:24or show that meaning and message in a good movie.
- 1:33:27But also these movies are probably just money laundering
- 1:33:29scheme so I'm not expecting them to do much.
- 1:33:31And that's true, Yeah, these movies.
- 1:33:33Hit me up, I'll do script. We'll do script work for the
- 1:33:35next one though for real guys. We'll make the God's Not Dead.
- 1:33:37I guess since the 6th is already underway, it would have to be
- 1:33:40God's Not Dead 7. We'll make God's Not Dead 7 the
- 1:33:43best one. I think you've really
- 1:33:45overestimate their cut offs for like script revisions.
- 1:33:48I think we could show up on on set and be like we're give me
- 1:33:52give me the paper and I think you would get paper and like the
- 1:33:55whole script need to be it's it's.
- 1:33:57Cry on. Yeah, there's.
- 1:33:58Like 9 words on the IT just says they talk about Jesus.
- 1:34:01Are we? What are we doing?
- 1:34:02Quotations. God is finally dead.
- 1:34:04Yeah, and it just says, Pastor Dave is so cool.
- 1:34:07And it's like, OK, by the way, you know who else is bleaching
- 1:34:10your hair, Dave? You know who else is really cool
- 1:34:11in the fifth one? Who?
- 1:34:13Michael Tate. He's a bag of game.
- 1:34:15Michael Tate, Which? Is wild 2024 this came out.
- 1:34:18This is really getting close. How do you think whatever his
- 1:34:22name's AR15 White really regret? That is genuinely a great name.
- 1:34:27That is, that's a great nickname.
- 1:34:28AR15, White. Well, there's there's a there's
- 1:34:30a quarterback in the NFL, Anthony Richardson, AR15.
- 1:34:33I don't. Care about that at all?
- 1:34:35Sports sports Sports Sports type B Sports type B Sports ball.
- 1:34:41Do they throw the football in the basket?
- 1:34:43Oh, you got too many runs and now they have to go play hockey
- 1:34:46again. Is he is he hanging himself?
- 1:34:53Is he? Oh, he hung himself.
- 1:35:00See end of God's Not Dead 6. Should we just It's a 5 minute
- 1:35:04long scene of me Googling how to make a noose and then I make it.
- 1:35:07I have to find a really, really strong beam.
- 1:35:09God's not Dead 6 or is he? I think that would be a good
- 1:35:14title is. He.
- 1:35:17Crazy long title. God's not dead.
- 1:35:19Or is he just kidding? He's not.
- 1:35:22Welcome back, Reverend Jude. Yeah, welcome back.
- 1:35:25Hey, bring him back. And then it.
- 1:35:27And then it's like a letter. Sincerely, M Tate.
- 1:35:31That's the title of the movie. I'd watch that one.
- 1:35:34I would watch that one. We would do.
- 1:35:35Here's the thing. This sucks and this sucked.
- 1:35:39What would real quick before I say my other thing, what would
- 1:35:42you give this movie? Because by the way, I know as
- 1:35:44these movies have gone on, we've given less and less.
- 1:35:46There's less and less. It's so bad .069 out of five.
- 1:35:53Nice. That's actually so sick.
- 1:35:55That's actually really sick, like sexual, like sensible
- 1:35:57stuff. I mean, everything's been so
- 1:35:59asexual up into. This everything is so.
- 1:36:01And that's the thing. You can't even call it gay.
- 1:36:03Because it's just like no one. It's like a it's.
- 1:36:05Sex does not exist. In it's beige paint.
- 1:36:07And I'm not saying you gotta have a sex scene, but like,
- 1:36:09husbands and wives just kind of shuffle together and they're
- 1:36:11like not touching. Nobody holds hands.
- 1:36:13Nobody hold hands like, not even a.
- 1:36:15Gosh, dude, come on dude, you ever go into a hotel and the
- 1:36:18wall is like that popcorn beige? Yep, that's these movies.
- 1:36:21Yes. Sexually.
- 1:36:23Yep. Anyway, I don't know, like a .5
- 1:36:27this movie sucks, dude. I hate it so much.
- 1:36:30I was watching it on my phone. It like I was on my phone.
- 1:36:33I'm like, right. Oh, did they win great.
- 1:36:37The end movie whenever. Oh my gosh, it pissed me off so
- 1:36:40much. I have to go whenever they're
- 1:36:42doing their final debate. Yeah and Dave has his big
- 1:36:45moment. He literally put puts his hand
- 1:36:47on the Bible and he's like he takes he unscrews and unclips
- 1:36:54the mic from the thing starts walking around and he's like,
- 1:36:57here's what you don't get Devil guy from Reaper finish the rest
- 1:37:02of that bar because he because the guy is saying like.
- 1:37:05We hold these truths to be self-evident.
- 1:37:08Finish. It I've I've said too many bad
- 1:37:10words and I don't want to continue it, finish it, finish
- 1:37:12it, boy, finish that and he's like, yeah, you can.
- 1:37:16Literally the devil guy is like, that's ridiculous.
- 1:37:19That's what I do and he's like that all whatever.
- 1:37:23I don't know. The men are created or given
- 1:37:25certainly inalienable rights by our Creator.
- 1:37:28Yeah, something like that. And he's like, what's up?
- 1:37:31And then the everybody in the crowd is like, kill him.
- 1:37:33Yeah, literally. Dave says the most mediocre milk
- 1:37:38toast things and people are like, and it all comes back to
- 1:37:44whenever Josh is having his debate, not you, but the other
- 1:37:47one, Joe, you kind of look a little bit, well, you guys be
- 1:37:50cousins, probably. Yeah.
- 1:37:51He's not like the 13 Reasons why kid.
- 1:37:53There's not that. He does kind of look like a
- 1:37:54little bit though. Yeah, but it's kind of like.
- 1:37:57He's like the evolved. Either you or the 13 Reasons why
- 1:38:00kid were the the like the original and everybody else is a
- 1:38:03succeeding clone. Josh, how It looks like I don't
- 1:38:07know the actual actor's name. A clone of you who was a clone
- 1:38:10of the other guy. Interesting.
- 1:38:11Anywho, I forget what I was saying.
- 1:38:13These movies suck. I hate them.
- 1:38:14They suck. Gosh, the third one's the best.
- 1:38:18Yeah, but you really you shouldn't watch any of.
- 1:38:20Them don't watch these movies, but I will say whenever that 6th
- 1:38:221 comes out, you know, we have to do this again.
- 1:38:24And. It would be great because if you
- 1:38:26thought this is probably, I don't know, our first two hour
- 1:38:28pod and we're four or five pods in, it's going to be something
- 1:38:32crazy. Yep, wait, wait until how long
- 1:38:34that one is and we just have the one thing to talk about.
- 1:38:37Yep, Yep. So straight up guys, I'm if
- 1:38:40you're still here, hey man, thank you.
- 1:38:43Thank you, big dog, and really appreciate you.
- 1:38:46And you know what, as a sign of our appreciation, I'm going to
- 1:38:50tell you a little secret. Over on our website,
